Terror on Swiss train as passengers are attacked by passenger with fire and knife
Lemme guess...he cursed in Swiss?
According to early reports, a man boarded the train, started a fire and then began stabbing passengers
How do you say "Allahu Akbar" in Helvetian?
Swiss train passengers have reported been attacked by a man with 'fire and a knife' sparking fears of new terror attack.

According to early reports, a man boarded the train, started a fire and then began stabbing passengers.

At least seven passengers were left seriously - suffering from burns and knife wounds after the 27-year-old man launched the assault.

A six year-old child is reported to be among those attacked by the man, who police revealed is a Swiss citizen.

There are reports that flammable liquid was used in the horrifying assault.

The attack took place on Saturday at around 2:20 p.m, just before the entered Salt Station in the canton of St Gallen in north eastern Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Kathy Shelton story
[Mail] A child rape victim says she cannot forgive Hillary Clinton for defending her rapist in court 40 years ago, saying the Democratic presidential candidate attacked her credibility despite knowing that her assailant was guilty -and later laughed about it in a taped interview.
Kathy Shelton was just 12 years old when a 41-year-old drifter raped her on the side of a desolate Arkansas road in 1975.

Now, four decades later, she has agreed to be named and pictured for the first time in this Daily Mail Online exclusive because she is furious that her rapist's defense attorney - Hillary Clinton - has been portraying herself as a lifelong advocate of women and girls on the campaign trail.

Terror Networks
LTG (ret) Flynn: Obama's ‘Willful Decision' Has Allowed ISIS To Flourish [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] In a 2015 interview with British journalist Mehdi Hasan, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said that the Obama administration made a "willful decision" to pursue its policy, which he said has allowed ISIS to gain power.

implied that the Obama administration is willfully responsible for ISIS’s rise and reign of terror in Syria.

"I think that looking back, there were a number of strategic errors that were made," the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency stated.

"We definitely put fuel on a fire that had some embers there" by invading Iraq in 2003, Flynn said.

"You’re on record as stating that the administration’s handling of Syria has been a mistake," noted Hasan. "Many people would argue that the U.S. actually saw the rise of ISIL and turned a blind eye."

Hasan pointed to a DIA memo, discussing the findings of an internal agency probe, which indicated that the United States saw the "ISIL caliphate coming ... and they did nothing."

Home Front: Politix
Which Is Worse‐an October Surprise or a December Surprise?
[PJ] While the mainstream media--desperate to prevent Donald Trump from bringing his gold lamé lifestyle anywhere near the White House--rattles on in mock astonishment about the loquacious businessman's latest gaffe, a far more significant threat to our country looms than any possible verbal miscue. According to The Daily Caller Foundation's Richard Pollock:

Multiple FBI investigations are underway involving potential corruption charges against the Clinton Foundation, according to a former senior law enforcement official.

The investigation centers on New York City where the Clinton Foundation has its main offices, according to the former official who has direct knowledge of the activities.

Prosecutorial support will come from various U.S. Attorneys Offices -- a major departure from other centralized FBI investigations.

The New York-based probe is being led by Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Bharara’s prosecutorial aggressiveness has resulted in a large number of convictions of banks, hedge funds and Wall Street insiders.

Bharara is the attorney who recently brought down the supposedly untouchable Democratic NY Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver--a veritable Boss Tweed of modern New York politics. Evenhanded, the prosecutor also put away NY Republican Majority Leader Dean Skelos for five years on corruption charges.

Importantly, I have been told that Mr. Bharara works independently of the censorious hand of Loretta Lynch at the DOJ in DC. He is reputed to be his own man and likes to keep New York's Southern District free of Beltway interference. As for that anonymous "former senior law enforcement official," he--I also have been told--is definitely in a position to know. (This contradicts earlier reporting, by CNN and others, that the Clinton Foundation was not under investigation.)

Can we say, "Watch out, Hillary!"? Better yet, "Watch out, America!"? Be careful what you wish for at the ballot box this November. What you vote for on Election Day may not be what you are getting a month later.

In other words, which is worse--an October Surprise or a December Surprise?

Most of us would say a December Surprise, because it is too late to react, too late to change presidential course. The die is cast, as Suetonius told Caesar.

And that is what we are likely to have in this instance, a December Surprise at the very earliest. Although it is unclear when this inquiry began--first in NY and apparently later in other cites--corruption investigations take time. Many moving parts have to be put together and in the case of the Clintons, you don't have to read or see Clinton Cash (free here) to know many of those parts are global and have dollars signs with tons of zeros attached.

A more likely timetable would be a January, February or even a May or June Surprise, just far enough into a Hillary Clinton administration to create maximal confusion and maximal governmental dysfunction.

Forget ISIS. Forget whatever economic course correction is necessary to bring back the middle class.Forget solving anything from education to healthcare. All hands on deck. The blood sports begin!

Think everything's crazy now? Just wait!

I know what you're thinking. Nothing will happen. There will be no surprise at all. After all, FBI Director Comey walked up to the door of indicting Hillary Clinton for her email server scandal on national security grounds, teased us all and then walked away, leaving Hillary in the ever-protective hands of the liberal media. That's been the Clinton family history since time immemorial.

#2  They don't call it Kabuki Theater* for nothing.

* In that context, “kabuki theater” means something like this: a tale of smoke and mirrors, full of sound and fury, and signifying almost nothing. A big production, mostly for show, utilizing stylized movement, while the real action goes on behind the scenes.

#3  ...Sadly, I think that no matter who wins, nothing will happen: if Clinton wins, the investigations will be quietly buried; if Trump wins the AG and DOJ will twist themselves into positively Gordian knots to end them before the GOP can get control.

#7  Iblis,

I've read from a couple sources that the only thing that kept Lyndon Johnson out of jail was John Kennedy's assassination - the Bobby Baker scandal was never fully revealed to the public, and Kennedy was already under considerable pressure from his own party to dump Johnson in '64.

This Week In Guns, August 13th, 2016

Rantburg.com

Mike Vanderboegh died last Thursday from cancer. Many who frequent Rantburg.com did not care for the man, given his past as a real life, honest to goodness communist revolutionary who came to see the errors of his way and thinking, and then went to work dedicating his life to restoring the Republic.

I never met the man in real life, but I did respect him for his past, his judgement, his conversion to American conservatism, and his steadfastness and passion.

His son, who served in the army in overseas assignments, now carries on his father's blog. So far he has taken up the guide-on of his fallen father enthusiastically.

A short, but sharp lesson on the Executive Order Import Ban of 5.45x39mm Ammunition

The 5.45x39mm ammunition is used in the AK-74, the latest iteration of the AK series built in 1974. The AK-74 and the military issue ammunition it uses has the industrial designation of 7N6. The designation means that the 5.45x39mm round has a slug that is 53 grains in weight and uses a steel core. The ammunition available before the ban was what is called corrosive, which will destroy the gas tube and the barrel over time with a salt-based corrosion unless the rifle is cleaned thoroughly after each use.

By personal experience the AK-74 is a fine rifle. I don't use 7N6 ammunition because of its corrosive properties, using instead 60 grain non corrosive ammunition. Russian rifle trainers teach their shooters, and bore sight their rifles to hit targets out to 400 meters without adjusting sights. The shooter is taught to target the upper chest of their target at 50 yards, and end with Russian center mass, which is the crotch of their target. That is a distance of about nine inches, or about 228 millimeters. The 7N6 ammunition with the 53 grain slug enables this standard.

ATF rules are that any ammunition which can be fired in a pistol and which can be called armor piercing is generally banned for civilian use and sale.

Ammunition manufacturers make armor piercing ammunition, but they are restricted for police and military use. 7N6 is not available to civilians for "sporting purposes", the legal standard which "allows" all ammunition to be available for sale to the general public. The 7N6 ammunition has been available for general sale since the 1990s, as far as I know. Until the advent of Obama, it was never a problem. I know of no kop nor any official who has been shot/killed using an AK-74 rifle. In fact, all 5.56x45mm/.223 rifles in nearly every state outnumber the available AK-74s by at least an order of magnitude.

People just don't use the AK74, for some reason.

Since the Sandy Creek Massacre in 2013, Obama has been determined to deal with gun laws by using the executive order means of restricting as much as he can through his power as president. Apparently, someone in the ATF discovered that a short barreled rifle with a folding stock, the Russian Krinkov, was available for sale. Under ATF rules, the Krinkov is a pistol since it doesn't have a fixed stock, and so the rule against armor piecing rounds applied.

He could not ban the ammunition outright, but he can use his power to ban its import and sale, and that is what he has done. It has the special mark of being an economic sanction against certain Russian manufacturers in the wake of the Russian invasion and subsequent takeover of Crimea.

A judge in Seattle unsurprisingly sided with the government in a lawsuit that sought to overturn the executive order, and continued to ban the import of one class of ammunition which has never been used to kill any peace officers in the US.

This concludes the lesson on how a single politician acting as dictator can use raw power to further shore up that power. Further use of that power awaits gun owners after January, I suspect, regardless who wins the White House and the legislature.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Prices for pistol ammunition were mostly steady. Prices for rifle ammunition were steady across the board.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were lower across the board.

#2  Under ATF rules, the Krinkov is a pistol since it doesn't have a fixed stock, and so the rule against armor piercing rounds is applied.

Seems like the ATF creates their regulations as they go. A Krinkov originates as a pistol. And so a piece, with that barrel length, converted with a non-detachable stock "fixed" to the receiver would render it a Short barreled rifle subject to other requirements for ownership but in theory legal to fire the 7N6. However, unless one wears a trench coat neither are exactly easy to conceal. At best their "armor piercing ammo" regulations seem to be a solution in search of a problem. More likely a ruse from the get go.

#3  Who was the prime manufacturer of 7N6, and did they donate to American politics recently, would be my first two questions.

I think we, our Scotch 12 Think Tank, got a circle squared the other night.

The conundrum:
Leftists think only LEO should have guns.
Eff the Police.

It isn't that only LEOs should have guns.
Only *their* LEOs should have guns.

And for the record, again, I consider LEO my cousins, and have never, even though earned, had an encounter which was not at least...constructive.

We were also able to square the Fred Phelps and current collectivist (whole other discussion) methods of violence, and that the collectivist is by nature a loose cannon by purpose. That is, when told control, control, you must learn control, they scream back eff you old man!

*maybe more, chores beckon

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi and Syrian Edtions

Syrian Democratic Forces release civilians trapped by ISIS

[ARA News] KOBANE – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have announced the final phase of the operation to liberate civilians taken hostage by ISIS in the al-Sirib neighbourhood in Manbij city, after ISIS rejected initiatives to allow civilians to escape the war-torn city.

According to the SDF-led Manbij Military Council, they have saved so far 170,000 civilians trapped in the city from ISIS. “ISIS has been using civilians as human shields and make them part of their military plans since the liberation campaign began [on 31 May], but we took all necessary measures to protect the life of our people,” the council said in a statement on Friday.

The SDF-affiliated Manbij Military Council says that their forces now control most of Manbij, and tightened the siege on ISIS militants. In a response, ISIS has tried to use civilians as human shields “in order to exploit our moral commitments,” the council said.

“As a result we have offered three initiatives to save civilians, and to remove them from the battle zones, the last one was five days ago, but it was rejected by ISIS extremists who have no concern about innocent children and women,” the council said.

ARA News reporters have witnessed several civilians being injured and killed by ISIS mines and snipers, some of them are being treated by the doctors in the Amal hospital in Kobane.

ISIS executes 1 in Ninevah

[ARA News] DUHOK – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Friday executed a young Iraqi man by throwing him from the top of a building on charges of being gay.

ISIS extremists detained the young man in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province under the pretext that he was “a homosexual“.

“The young man was brutally thrown from the top of a tall building in front of dozens of people,” a local media activist told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

ISIS has also released a videotape showing the execution of the young man and the beheading of others that, according to the group, have violated the Caliphate’s rules.

“Those who dare to oppose Allah’s Sharia and the Caliphate’s rules deserve punishment,” an ISIS jihadi said before his fellow militants conducted the execution.

Speaking to ARA News, head of Nineveh media centre Raafat al-Zarari said: “Civilians who live under ISIS suppression are forced to follow any order by the group, otherwise they could get killed. It’s a bitter reality in territories held by this terror group.”

The ISIS-linked Sharia Court had issued a decision to execute every gay man by throwing him from the top of a building, according to eyewitnesses.

Over the past three years, the extremist group has executed dozens of allegedly gay men in its areas of control in Syria and Iraq.

Arabia
US approves $1.15 billion sale of tanks, equipment to Saudi Arabia
The US State Department has approved the potential sale of more than 130 Abrams battle tanks, 20 armored recovery vehicles and other equipment, worth about $1.15 billion, to Saudi Arabia, the Pentagon said on Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Badanov, you got the secret kill switches installed on all the vehicles, right?
The approval for land force equipment coincides with Saudi Arabia leading a military coalition in support of Yemeni forces loyal to the exiled government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi who are trying to oust Iran-allied Houthi forces from the capital, Sanaa.
Saudis got chewed up pretty bad alright...
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which implements foreign arms sales, said that General Dynamics will be the principal contractor for the sale.

"This sale will increase the Royal Saudi Land Force’s (RSLF) interoperability with US forces and conveys US commitment to Saudi Arabia's security and armed forces modernization," the agency said in a notice to lawmakers posted on its website.

Lawmakers have 30 days to block the sale, although such action is rare.

Saudi Arabia and its mostly Gulf Arab allies intervened in Yemen's civil war in March 2015 after the Houthi movement had pushed the Hadi administration into exile in Saudi Arabia.

Manbij: Retreating ISIL fighters take 2,000 civilians as human shields
[The National] Around 2,000 civilians have been taken hostage as human shields by ISIS forces retreating from the northern Syrian town of Manbij, a coalition fighting the forces of Evil and a monitoring group said on Friday.

Sherfan Darwish, a front man for the Manbij Military Council, said ISIS fighters used the civilians to ensure that they were not attacked as they withdrew north to Jarablus, an ISIS-held town on Syria’s border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The council is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces, a coalition of Kurdish and Arab factions that have surrounded Manbij since June. In a rare move last month, the SDF offered ISIS safe passage out of Manbij in a bid to avoid civilian casualties that they feared would come with an assault on the town. ISIS ignored the offer.

By the end of July, the SDF had captured most of Manbij with the help of air strikes from the US-led anti-ISIS coalition. In recent days, only small pockets of ISIS fighters remained in the town.

While around 2,000 civilians were kidnapped by ISIS in their retreat, Mr Darwish, the Manbij Military Council front man, said that an additional 2,500 civilians who had been held captive by ISIS were freed by the SDF.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on sources in Syria, said the civilians were placed in hundreds of cars that then headed for Jarabulus.

Elsewhere in Syria, government forces continued their assault on rebels in and around the city of Aleppo, where last week a coalition of opposition factions broke a three-week government siege of the city’s east. On Friday, air strikes in Aleppo province hit a market, a hospital and a village, killing at least 18 people.

Air strikes continued to target healthcare and emergency response facilities in the area.

A hospital in the town of Kafr Hamra, on the northern front line between rebels and government troops in Aleppo, was hit before dawn, killing two workers. A Syrian Civil Defense centre in eastern Aleppo was also hit by an air strike.

Last month, 43 health care facilities in opposition areas of Syria were partly or completely destroyed by the conflict.

"With heavy bombing continuing relentlessly in Aleppo especially, hospitals and clinics need to be treated as the sacred life-saving places they are, not as additional bombing targets," Nadim Houry, the deputy Middle East director of Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....

As the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
continues to urge weekly ceasefires to allow the delivery of aid to civilians trapped in Aleppo and a resumption of diplomatic talks, Turkey said on Friday that it was willing to work with Iran to resolve the conflict in Syria.

"We will closely cooperate on these issues [on Syria] after this meeting. There are issues we agree on, especially on Syrian territorial integrity," said Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu Friday after meeting with Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Belgian police free three suspects after new counterterror raids
Belgian police released three people Friday who were detained overnight in a counterterror operation in the Brussels area, Sputnik reported.

Searches were conducted in homes of people under scrutiny on suspicion of links to terrorism and foreign fighters returning from Syria, the RTBF broadcaster reported, saying no weapons or explosives had been found.

Two women and a man, who was tagged electronically for trying to leave for Syria, were released after being questioned by the investigating judge, according to the broadcaster.

Belgium has been investigating several cases related to last year’s terror attacks in Paris and this spring's Brussels bombings, as well as foiled terror plots in the country.

Jihadists foil first Syrian Army offensive in southern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), backed by Hezbollah, launched a massive offensive on Thursday morning that targeted the southern Aleppo districts under the control of the jihadist rebels.

Led by the Tiger Forces and Hezbollah, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies stormed the Al-Ramouseh District from four different axes, catching the jihadist rebels of Jaish Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) off-guard on Thursday morning.

Initially, the Syrian Armed Forces were successful, seizing several points in eastern Al-Ramouseh; however, following a counter-attack by the jihadist rebels, the government units withdrew from the captured sites, returning to the 1070 Al-Hamdaniyah Housing Project.

While this first assault could be considered a failure; it has become normal for the Tiger Forces to seize points from the jihadist rebels and then withdraw before nightfall.

The Tiger Forces did this "advance and withdraw" assault on a number of occasions during the Al-Mallaah Farms offensive in late June; it allowed them to constantly weaken the enemy defenses, while probing for new attack point.

Nusra commander defects to ISIS with his battalion
[ALMASDARNEWS] The leader of Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
’s, now Jabhat Fath Al-Sham, Barraq Battalions defected from the Al-Qaeda affiliated terror group and joined the notorious ISIS group.

He was based in the troubled Yarmouk Paleostinian refugee camp that was once a very prosperous district in Damascus. Notably, violent battles took place between the two internationally-recognized terror groups a few months ago.

ISIS may now look to attack the government positions near the city center of Damascus or the rebel positions of Jaish Al-Islam in the nearby Yalda.

Clinton releases tax returns; earned nearly $240M since leaving White House
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as For a good time at 3 a.m. call Hillary and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Chateaubriand ...
’s income took a huge hit as she ran for president last year, dropping to less than half of what she made the year before, according to tax returns her presidential campaign released Friday.

Mrs. Clinton hoped the release would embarrass GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has refused to release any of his, while also shining a light on the high rate she and her husband paid in their own taxes.

The power couple reported earning $10.7 million in income in 2015, and claimed a tax liability of $3.6 million.

It’s a major drop in income from the more than $28 million they earned in 2014 and $27 million in 2013 -- the two years after Mrs. Clinton left the State Department, but before she was running for president.

The Clintons’ federal taxes in 2015 amounted to 34.2 percent of their income, and their combined federal, state and local taxes were 43.2 percent. They donated 9.8 percent of their adjusted gross income to charity -- though almost all of that was to their own charity, the Clinton Family Foundation, run by close personal friends.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah launch surprise offensive to capture key town in Latakia
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Marines, backed by the Desert Hawks Brigade and Hezbollah, launched an imperative offensive on Friday to capture the key Latakia town of Kabbani near the Idlib border.

The offensive was launched from two different axes, with the Syrian Marines and Desert Hawks striking Jaish Al-Fateh’s (Army of Conquest) defenses at the Zuwayqat Mountains, while their allies from Hezbollah attacked from the small hilltops overlooking Kabbani from the west.

Following a fierce battle at the Zuwayqat Mountains on Friday afternoon, the Syrian Armed Forces imposed full control over this site, killing several jihadist rebels in the process of their advance.

With the Zuwayqat Mountains under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces are now in position to strike Kabbani from the southern perimeter; however, they have yet to attack the town today.

Aiding from above, the Russian Air Force has been flying sorties all day over the northeastern countryside of the Latakia, propelling the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies near Kabbani.

If the jihadist rebels lose Kabbani to the Syrian Armed Forces, they will be in serious trouble at the key Idlib village of Sirmaniyah, which is located just southern of Jaish Al-Fatehms stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour.

Baghlan Provincial Council Warns Of Provincial Collapse
Baghlan provincial council on Friday warns if the security situation is not tackled seriously the province will collapse to the Taliban.

After the Taliban attacked Dahan-e-Ghori more than ten military checkpoints and villages collapsed to the Taliban.

Baghlan provincial council said that Taliban has taken control of villages in Dahan-e-Ghori one after the other and if the Taliban is not stopped soon all Dahan-e-Ghori villages will fall to the Taliban which will lead to the fall of Puli-khumri - the capital of Baghlan province.‎

"It has been three months that the Taliban are active, why have the governor and other officials not been able to remove insecurities and why could they not control the conspiracy," said Bismillah Attash provincial council member.

Meanwhile families of those soldiers under siege by Taliban said that if reinforcement forces do not arrive soon in Dahan-e-Ghori they will lose their sons.

"We urgently request extra troops because we are under siege here. Three hundred Taliban attacked," said Ghulam Sakhi a resident.

"If Dahan-e-Ghori district collapses then Puli-khomri will also collapse," said Shamuddin another resident.

Taliban attacked Dahan-e-Ghori district on Wednesday and so far they have captured ten military checkpoints and several villages.

Troops Ask For More Aircraft Amid Rising Violence In South
With the escalation of violence and insurgency in Afghanistan's southern regions, major general Abdul Raziq Sherzai, the commander of Kandahar Air Brigade Friday rallied for more military aircraft to be delivered to the hard-pressed Afghan security forces who have been battling insurgent groups in their traditional heartlands in Kandahar and Helmand provinces for weeks.

He said that the Kandahar Air Brigade, despite having inadequate facilities on hand, continue to back the ground forces in their campaign against the militants in Helmand and Kandahar provinces, where in recent months violence dramatically increased following the Taliban's new attempt to seize control of the strategic province of Helmand in the south and infiltrate neighboring provinces.

The Kandahar Air Brigade that operates under the command of 205 Atal Army Corps has about 20 different types of aircrafts - a figure security officials claim is nothing near what they need to deal with the current scale of security issues that have undermined large swaths of land in the south.

He called on the central government in Kabul and NATO alliance to make sure there is a delivery of more aircrafts to conventional forces so that they can tighten their grip on the war with the terrorists.

Kandahar Air Brigade has at least 900 employees and technicians.

"777 special unit is also set to assume its job in the southwestern region, our air brigade also conducts missions during the operations," said Sherzai.

"We need cooperation, foreign forces should deliver us more aircraft and equipment so that we get more strength," said an Afghan pilot in Kandahar Air Brigade.

Meanwhile, a number of security sources on condition of anonymity in the southern provinces have said that air support and reinforcements are not being sent to them on time.

"We expect the government to deliver us the latest aircraft which can meet the needs of current times, they should also provide us latest technical training," said Afghan National Army soldier in Kandahar.

"Ground forces give us the plan and suggest us to come to a certain area and conduct operations. Both 205 Atal Army Corps and 2015 Maiwand Army Corps are supplied by us," added Sherzai.

The Afghan Air Force (AAF) has 150 aircrafts which operate from Kabul, Kandahar, Herat, Nangarhar and Balkh provinces and conduct missions to support ground forces.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Why you should take the new corruption investigation into the Clinton Foundation seriously
BLUF: [Hot Air] Now, I know what you’re thinking. Why bother? Even if they turn up anything the DoJ will just toss it into the trash anyway, the same as they did with Huma Abedin’s embezzlement charges, right? Nobody could blame you for thinking that, but in this case you just may turn out to be wrong. The reason for that is the name of the individual who kicked this thing off in the Empire State in the first place: Preet Bharara.

If you’re not familiar with Preetinder Singh "Preet" Bharara ‐ the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, centered on New York City and surrounding counties ‐ then you haven’t been following our ongoing coverage of his prosecution of numerous New York elected officials over the past few years. The man is absolutely fearless when it comes to persons of political power and maintains a reputation for the apolitical pursuit of justice generally only applied to the movie version of Eliot Ness. He’s knee deep into multiple investigations of corruption by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio while simultaneously digging through the offices of Governor Andrew Cuomo himself, as well as the entire executive branch of state government.

Nothing will come of any of this. Obola and his regime have put the final nails in the coffin of the rule of law.

A federal judge did something fishy (forgotten what), and several commenters opined that "she ought to be taken out back and shot" or "she ought to be fed into the woodchipper". This was "threatening a federal official". I also believe Bharara slapped a gag order on Reason so they couldn't talk about this on their own site.

New Mexico police officer shot dead during traffic stop
[UPI] Three suspects were taken into custody after a New Mexico police officer was rubbed out during a traffic stop.

According to Las Cruces Sun-News, Hatch Police officer Jose Chavez, 33, was shot during a traffic stop after pulling over a grey Lexus at 3:41 p.m. Friday.

"During the traffic stop, a passenger who was in that vehicle reportedly exited the vehicle and fired shots at the officer," Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kelly Jameson said.

Chavez died on Friday evening at University Medical Center in El Paso. Another officer responding to the traffic stop witnessed the shooting and called for medical attention.

KRQE reports the second officer engaged in a high speed chase with the shooter along Interstate 25.

The suspects carjacked another vehicle during the chase and shot the driver, whose condition is unknown.

"The suspects abandoned the vehicle they were in and reportedly carjacked a red Chevrolet Cruze at the rest area and allegedly shot the driver of that car," Jameson said.

The manhunt came to an end, as police were able to flatten the vehicles tires using stop sticks and "coax" the driver out of the vehicle.

"He surrendered to our deputies. At that point, the deputies noticed that the driver of the vehicle who was the suspect again was suffering from a gunshot wound to the thigh," said Jameson.

The driver was taken into custody at around 5 p.m. The other two suspects were captured before 7 p.m. after attempting to flee the scene.

Houthi Top Dawg, 40 others now pining for the fjords
Lovely plumage, doncha think?
Wonder if they'll nail his feet to the perch?
Saudi forces backed by aerial shelling from the Arab Coalition have killed an Iran-backed Houthi leader and 40 other militias near the kingdom’s southwestern borders with Yemen, Al Arabiya News Channel reported on Thursday.

Saleh al-Houthi Mouawad Kibsi, the slain Houthi leader, was in charge of the militia’s military operation in the Yemeni region that borders the Saudi southwestern city of Najran. It was reported that Kibsi was killed along with his brother and two of his companions.

Earlier Thursday, the Saudi-led Arab coalition also launched air strikes on Houthi sites in the capital Sanaa and surrounding area, targeting the militia’s air bases and arms warehouse.

Sources told Al Arabiya News Channel that the raids also targeted areas where Houthis carried out fierce battles against forces loyal to the internationally recognized government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who had to flee the country after a Houthi coup in September 2014.

Since Tuesday, the Arab coalition resumed its Operation Restoring Hope against the Houthis and their allies loyal to deposed Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh after UN-sponsored peace talks in Kuwait ended without an agreement.

The operation was also renewed after the Houthis started launching operations on the Saudi borders, which Riyadh dubbed as a “red line”.

The Houthis and Saleh’s General People’s Congress (GPC) hold most of Yemen’s northern half while forces loyal to Hadi share control of the rest of the country with local tribes.

The fighting in which more than 6,400 people have been killed - half of them civilians - has created a humanitarian crisis in one of the poorest countries in the Middle East.

Four TTP suspects killed in Manghopir ‘encounter’
[DAWN] Law enforcement agencies on Thursday claimed to have killed four suspected snuffies belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain in an encounter in the Manghopir area.

They said the TTP suspects (Swat

group) had arrived in the city to sabotage Independence Day celebrations.

The law enforcers conducted a targeted raid in Mir Mohammed Goth, and in the ensuing encounter, the four suspects got killed, according to the Rangers spokesperson.

"It was a joint operation conducted by the Pakistain Rangers, Sindh, and police," said Manghopir SHO Ghulam Husain Korai.

He identified the dear departed as Ikramullah, Sajjad alias Sajid, Ayaz and Jibran. "All of them belonged to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban (Swat group)," said the officer.

"They were involved in the killing of coppers and soldiers," said Mr Korai.

Three Kalashnikovs, kaboom and grenades were seized from their custody after the shootout, the officer said.

He said that a threat alert had already been issued on account of the Independence Day celebrations and they had received intelligence reports that the snuffies had arrived in the city to carry out terror act.

Pak: Anti-terror fight to focus on foreign agencies
[DAWN] The government on Thursday held out the assurance that security remained its priority and decided to establish a panel to oversee the execution of the troubled National Action Plan (NAP).

"Restoration of complete peace and tranquillity shall remain the top priority of the government and all the state institutions... It was agreed to establish a high-level task force to monitor the progress of implementation of the National Action Plan," said a statement issued by the Prime Minister Office (PMO) at the conclusion of two days of civil-military deliberations on lack of progress in the implementation of NAP.

The new body would include bigwigs from the security agencies of both the federal and provincial governments, but its exact composition is yet to be finalised.

Regarding the military’s view that threat to internal security was morphing due to growing nexus between hostile foreign intelligence agencies and local krazed killer groups, the meeting reviewed the subversive actions of external agencies and decided to "scale up the existing efforts to neutralise hostile elements through a coordinated and focused approach."

Militants claim French drone killed civilians
Benghazi, 12 August 2016:

Four members of the same family, including two children, were reported to have been killed in a Benghazi airstrike today which Islamist militiamen are blaming on a French drone.

The Benghazi Defence Brigade has posted graphic video of a collapsed building in Ganfouda with crushed bodies inside. A later clip shows children being treated for what appear to be serious injuries.

There is no footage of the remnants of the munition that destroyed the property. It is unclear what caused the BDB to believe it had been targeted by a French drone.

Ganfouda and Gwarsha are now invested by the army who after swift advances in June, now appear to be making little or no progress against the IS and Ansar Al-Sharia terrorists trapped in the coastal enclave and their allies in the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council.

There are reports that French special forces have been pulling out of Benghazi. The presence of these troops was revealed when three of them died in a helicopter smash last month, admitted by the French government.

It had been known for some while that a unit of specialist troops had been based near Benina. Following the helicopter wreck, Presidency Council head Faiez Serraj met France’s ambassador to Libya, Antoine Sivan on the edge of the Arab League summit in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott and delivered a formal protest.

The speculation is that French forces are pulling out as a result of that meeting. However the evidence for the withdrawal seems slight. One anonymous source told a Turkish news agency that there did not seem to be as many French soldiers around as before.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Why it pays to be grumpy and bad-tempered.
[BBC] On stage he's a loveable, floppy-haired prince charming. Off camera - well let's just say he needs a lot of personal space. He hates being a celebrity. He resents being an actor. To his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley's friends he was apparently known as ’Grumpelstiltskin’.

Hugh Grant may be famed for being moody and a little challenging to work with. But could a grumpy attitude be the secret to his success?

The pressure to be positive has never been greater. Cultural forces have whipped up a frenzied pursuit of happiness, spawning billion-dollar book sales, a cottage industry in self-help and plastering inspirational quotes all over the internet.

Now you can hire a happiness expert, undertake training in mindfulness, or seek inner satisfaction via an app. The US army currently trains its soldiers - dash; over a million people ‐ in positive psychology and optimism is taught in UK schools. Meanwhile the happiness has become an indicator of national wellbeing to rival GDP.

The truth is, pondering the worst has some clear advantages. Cranks may be superior negotiators, more discerning decision-makers and cut their risk of having a heart attack. Cynics can expect more stable marriages, higher earnings and longer lives - though, of course, they'll anticipate the opposite.

Good moods on the other hand come with substantial risks -sapping your drive, dimming attention to detail and making you simultaneously gullible and selfish. Positivity is also known to encourage binge drinking, overeating and unsafe sex.

#2
RULES FOR A GOOD OLD AGE..

1. It's time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don't just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard earned capital. Enjoy the present moment. The sand in the clock may run out at any moment.

2. Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren. You've taken care of them for many years, and you've taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their way.

3. Keep a healthy life with moderate exercise (like walking every day), eat well and get your sleep. It's easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. Keep in touch with your doctor, get tested even when you're feeling well. Stay informed.

4. Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then. Enjoy it together.

5. Don't stress over the little things. You've already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don't let the past drag you down or the future frighten you.

6. Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor, your surroundings, your country. We are never old as long as we have intelligence and affection.

7. Be proud, both inside and out. Don't stop going to your hair salon or barber. Do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist. Keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong on the inside.

8. Don't lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. There's nothing sillier than an older person trying to wear the current fashion among youngsters. You've developed your own sense of what looks good on you - keep it and be proud of it. It's part of who you are.

9. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go online and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You'll be surprised which old friends you'll meet. Keeping in touch with what is going on and with the people you know is important at any age.

10. Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same viewpoints as ours, but they are the future and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind them of yesterday's wisdom that still applies today.

11. Never use the phrase: "In my time." Your time is now. As long as you're alive, you are part of this time. You have been younger, but you are still you now, having fun and enjoying life.

12. Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bitter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days in the latter mode. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it'll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you older and harder to be around.

13. Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. If you've lost your partner (our deepest condolences), then find a person to move in with you and help out only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live alone.

14. Don't abandon your hobbies. If you don't have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a garden, play cards, checkers, chess dominoes, golf. You can paint, volunteer at an NGO or collect certain items. Find something you like and spend some real time having fun with it.

15. Even if you don't feel like it, try to accept invitations. Baptisms, graduations, birthdays, weddings, conferences. Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven't seen in a while, experience something new (or something old). But don't get upset when you're not invited. Some events are limited by resources, and not everyone can be hosted. The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a field. Get out there.

16. Be a conversationalist. Talk less and listen more. Some people go on and on about the past, not caring if their listeners are really interested. That's a great way of reducing the desire to speak with you. Listen first and answer questions, but don't go off into long stories unless asked to. Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are. Everyone is going through the same things, and people have a low tolerance for hearing complaints. Always find some good things to say as well.

17. Pain and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of the cycle of life we're all going through. Try to minimize them in your mind. They are not who you are, they are something that life added to you. If they become your entire focus, you lose sight of the person you used to be.

18. If you've been offended by others, forgive them. If you've offended someone - apologize. Don't drag resentment around with you. It will make you sad and bitter. It doesn't matter who was right. Someone once said, "Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die." Don't take that poison. Forgive and move on with your life.

19. If you have a strong belief, savor it. But don't waste your time trying to convince others. They will make their own choices no matter what you tell them, and it will only bring you frustration. Live your faith and set an example. Live true to your beliefs and let that memory sway them.

20. Laugh. Laugh A LOT. Laugh at everything. Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life. But you did. So what's not to laugh about? Find the humor in your situation.

21. Take no notice of what others say about you and even less of what they might be thinking. They'll do it anyway, and you should have pride in yourself and what you've achieved. Let them talk and don't worry. They have no idea about your history, your memories and the life you've lived so far. There's still much to be written, so get busy writing and don't waste time thinking about what others might think. Now is the time to be free, at peace and as happy as you can be!

22. Remember, never vote for that Lyin' Bitch, Hillary Clinton.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
FBI, US Attorneys Investigate Clinton Foundation Despite DOJ Objections
[LI] According to The Daily Caller and CNN, the FBI and several U.S. Attorney offices have opened an investigation into the Clinton Foundation even though the Department of Justice objected to one. The officials met several months ago about the possibility of a case:

At the time, three field offices were in agreement an investigation should be launched after the FBI received notification from a bank of suspicious activity from a foreigner who had donated to the Clinton Foundation, according to the official.

FBI officials wanted to investigate whether there was a criminal conflict of interest with the State Department and the Clinton Foundation during Clinton’s tenure. The Department of Justice had looked into allegations surrounding the foundation a year earlier after the release of the controversial book "Clinton Cash," but found them to be unsubstantiated and there was insufficient evidence to open a case.

DOJ officials did not want to open the case at the time because it looked "more political than substantive" since the FBI had an investigation going into Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for Southern District of New York, will lead the investigation. The Daily Caller said his office "has resulted in a large number of convictions of banks, hedge funds and Wall Street insiders."

The Clinton Foundation caused waves this week when Judicial Watch released emails that showed top Clinton Foundation donors asked then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for favors.

In April 2009, Clinton Foundation official Doug Band sent an email to Clinton's top aides Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin about a favor. He reminded them it is important to take care of [Redacted]." Officials blacked out the name, but Abedin said "Personel has been sending him options."

district.

According to Mohammad Tariq, an official of Bahrain cop shoppe, the jirga members gathered at Gornai village of Bahrain tehsil and decided to give an eight-year-old girl to a minor boy of the same age to settle their longstanding family dispute.

Following a tip-off the police reached the spot of the jirga and arrested all the 13 people who mutually agreed to give the girl ’in marriage’ to a male member of the rival family.

"The jirga members include elders from both the families and the nikahkhawn. We have registered an FIR against all the 13 people," said Mr Tariq.

According to local sources the dispute started between the two families since a daughter of one Darya Khan eloped with Abdullah ,who is the girl’s brother. "On the request of both the families, the jirga decided to settle their dispute so Abdullah’a sister was given in marriage to the rival family," said Inamullah, a local resident of Gurnai.

The custom of swara is practiced in the remote areas of upper Swat where majority of people are unaware of the laws against it.

Tabassum Adnan, a women rights activist, said that there was a need for creating awareness among the people to stop the practice of swara.

Africa Subsaharan
U.N.: South Sudan Refugees Pouring into Uganda
[AnNahar]. Around 110,000 people have fled to Uganda from South Sudan this year, most of them escaping fighting that erupted anew last month, the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
said Friday.

The UN's refugee agency said it was "extremely worried" about South Sudan's rapidly escalating displacement crisis, warning that neighbouring countries and humanitarian groups were struggling to meet demands.

Roughly 82,000 of those who have sought refuge across South Sudan's southern border in 2016 have moved in the last five weeks, UNHCR said.

The influx was sparked by renewed fighting between the government forces of President Salva Kiir and those loyal to ex-rebel chief Riek Machar.

Another 100,000 South Sudanese have fled north this year into Sudan, but most of that movement occurred earlier in the year and was partly linked to food insecurity.

Overall, more than 2.5 million people have been driven from their homes since South Sudan's war erupted in December 2013, including 930,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries, UNHCR said.

"What you are seeing in South Sudan is now the world's fourth biggest refugee situation" behind Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia, UNHCR front man Adrian Edwards told news hounds in Geneva.

Those fleeing to Uganda in recent weeks -- 90 percent of whom are women and kiddies -- have increasingly reported being targeted in robberies and sexual assaults, UNHCR said.

"Armed groups are also reportedly abducting children aged 12 and above from schools and threatening people," the UN agency added in a statement.

Uganda, which has long been a landing spot for South Sudanese refugees, is working to expand reception centres and camps near the border.

But some sites are already hosting five times the number of people they were designed accomodate.

UNHCR said its $609 million (546 million euros) response plan for South Sudan is only 20-percent funded.

Helicopter crew members are safe: FO
[DAWN] The Foreign Office has confirmed that the crew of a Punjab

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

government helicopter that crash-landed in Afghanistan last week is safe and efforts for its rescue are continuing.

"As informed by the Afghan side, the crew members are safe," FO front man Nafees Zakaria said at his weekly media briefing on Thursday.

The FO statement about the well-being of the crew follows a similar claim by the Russian foreign ministry which said: "It is reassuring that, according to the majority of sources, the lives of the hostages are not in danger."

The helicopter made an emergency landing in a Taliban-controlled district of Pashtun-infested Logar province on Aug 4 while flying to Russia for maintenance and seven crew members, including a Russian navigator, were taken hostage by a group of myrmidons. Both Russian and Pak governments have been making efforts for the release of the hostages.

The Afghan government initiated an operation for identification of the captors and rescue of the hostages.

"Efforts for the recovery are under way and as soon as there is any tangible development we shall inform," Mr Zakaria said in a statement issued in the evening after media speculation about the release of the captives.

At the media briefing, he said the Afghan government was trying to secure their release with the help of elders of the area.

Bethnal Green schoolgirl who joined ISIS is killed in a Russian airstrike

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(Isis) in Syria is believed to have been killed by a Russian Arclight airstrike. A-Level student Kadiza Sultana, 17, is believed to have left her home in east London during the Easter holidays in 2015 to join the myrmidons.

The Bethnal Green Academy student was joined by her friends, Amira Abase and Shamima Begum, both 15-years-old when they all travelled to Raqqa, Syria. The trio then married foreign IS (ISIS) fighters in the terror group’s de facto capital.

Sultana is believed to have died earlier this year when the residential home she was staying in was hit by a bomb believed to have been dropped by a Russian plane. The other two girls are still believed to be living in Raqqa.

ITV News spoke to Sultana’s sister, Halima Khanom, who said her sibling had become disillusioned with life in the caliphate and planned to return to the UK.

Qaeda goon hit with life sentence for planning U.S. embassy bombings blames his lawyers for botching his defense
[NYDAILYNEWS] A onetime accountant for Al Qaeda who coordinated deadly bombings on U.S. embassies said his lawyers bungled his defense because they "tacitly coerced" him not to talk, according to new documents filed in Manhattan federal court.

Wadih el-Hage received a life sentence in October 2001 for his role in the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that left 224 dead. The sentence was later invalidated because of a ruling by a higher court, but he was resentenced to life in April 2013.

El-Hage, whom the feds have described as a "high-ranking associate" of the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now among the dear departed, though not among the dearest...
, handled payroll and some logistics for Al Qaeda.

El-Hage contends "his trial counsel were ineffective because they advised and tacitly coerced him not to testify at trial contrary to his stated desire to do so," recently filed documents state.

Clinton Foundation had help from Hillary's top aide
[NYP] A top aide to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton traveled to Manhattan to interview candidates to head the Clinton Foundation, it was reported Thursday.

Cheryl Mills, then the chief of staff for Clinton at the State Department, took an Amtrak train from Washington, DC, to New York in June 2012 to interview prospects for the charity, CNN reported.

The report is the latest example of the murky boundary between Clinton’s role as the nation’s top diplomat and her family’s multimillion-dollar global charity.

CNN noted that upon her becoming secretary of state, Clinton and the foundation had agreed that neither would "create conflicts or the appearance of conflict."

The revelation that Mills was directly involved in foundation work gives new ammunition to critics who complain of a revolving door for Clinton cronies between the State Department and the influential nonprofit.

E-mails released Tuesday showed how wealthy foundation contributors could fork over piles of cash to get access to Clinton’s inner circle, including Mills and another top aide, Huma Abedin.

Mills’ attorney told CNN that she was not on State Department time during the trip. Mills was not paid to work for the foundation, he said, adding that no government funds were spent on the trip.

Likewise, Clinton’s campaign spokesman, Brian Fallon, said Mills was working as a volunteer.

6 miscreants busted in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: Six suspected terrorists were apprehended along with a cache of arms and ammunition during a combing operation in Kallar Syedan and Gujar Khan areas of Rawalpindi district on Thursday, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Amongst the persons arrested are two "important" militant commanders. Prepared improvised explosive devices (IED) were also recovered from their possession, said the statement.

Combing operations, which are underway across the country, are the latest initiative undertaken by the army against hiding 'terrorists' and terrorist sleeper cells.

A day after the horrific militant attack in Quetta which left over 70 people dead, the Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif had instructed corps commanders and intelligence outfits to further intensify combing and targeted operations with the aim to eliminate terrorists and sleepers cells.

'Terror bid foiled'
In an unrelated development, four suspected suicide bombers were arrested in a raid by security forces in Khyber Agency's Jamrud tehsil, officials said.

Five suicide jackets and 15 kilograms of explosives were recovered from the suspects' possession.

The alleged terrorists appeared to have entered Khyber Agency through the Afghanistan border, said Assistant Political agent Ziaur Rehman

Security sources said the suspects were planning to attack security installments and hospitals on August 14 during Independence Day celebrations in Peshawar.

Rehman said the alleged militants have been shifted to a undisclosed location for further interrogation.

A delegation of the US Department of Justice will visit Turkey Aug. 22 to discuss Fethullah Gulen’s extradition, Sabah newspaper quoted Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag as saying Aug. 12.
I say we get John Kerry to have a consultation with Carla del Ponte about this. That'll delay the whole thing for a decade...
“The US must not support Fethullah Gulen, who is the head of a terrorist organization,” said Bozdag.

The minister noted that the US shouldn’t sacrifice its relations with Turkey for sake of Gulen.

An Istanbul court ordered Aug. 4 to arrest Fethullah Gulen, who is accused of organizing the military coup attempt in Turkey.

12 Somali pirates get five years in jail
Twelve Somalis who attacked a container ship in the Indian Ocean were sentenced to five years in jail in Mauritius on Thursday, a reminder of the region’s battle against piracy.

The men were accused of firing on the MSC Jasmine, a Panamanian-flagged container ship, in January 2013 before being captured by naval anti-piracy forces and transferred to Mauritius for trial. They were found guilty of sea piracy on 14 July.

The men, aged between 22 and 47, had been acquitted in November 2014 but prosecutors appealed, and in December last year a new trial was ordered. Sentencing them on Thursday a judge said the three years they had already served would be be taken off their jail time.
So back to the high seas hijinks before the end of Hilarity's first term, boys!
Foreign navies that capture suspected pirates have handed over hundreds to regional nations including Mauritius, as well as Kenya, Seychelles and Tanzania, though the criminal industry in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden has largely died out.

Somali piracy reached its peak in 2011 when Somali pirate gangs attacked 237 vessels, seizing 11 vessels and 216 hostages, earning on average more than $2-million for every ship ransomed. Anti-piracy patrols by international warships and armed guards aboard commercial vessels, which now sail faster and further away from the Somali coast, have largely suppressed incidents of piracy.

Although Mauritius was not directly affected, the Indian Ocean island nation feared for its maritime trade as well as the many luxury cruises that feed its economy.

Swedish jihadist killed in Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] A 21-year old man from Eskilstuna has died in Syria, according to relatives.

He had traveled to the war zone last year and has previously been identified as a recruiter for violent Islamist organizations writes the Eskilstuna Courier.

The youngster is believed to have been killed in the fighting that took place in areas controlled by the Jaish Al-Fateh jihadist coalition, but the exact cause of death is unclear. The man did not uncover which organization he fought in Syria, though he was most likely part of the Al-Qaeda affiliated Jund Al-Aqsa. The Swedish Foreign Ministry could not confirm his death.

Defeat at Sirte may put paid to ISIL’s ambitions in Libya
[The National] The capture of the gigantic Ouagadougou Conference Centre in Sirte has dealt a critical blow against ISIS in Libya, albeit at a high cost to Libyan forces.

For the past year, ISIS’s black flag had been draped over the domed structure, which served as the headquarters of the myrmidon group’s self-declared Libya caliphate that once stretched 200 kilometres along the coast.

The complex, home to a vast central auditorium, was built by former dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
to boost his dream of being seen as a leader for all Africans. Its concrete walls proved impervious to artillery for weeks, frustrating government troops, while ISIS snipers on its rooftops kept up a murderous fire.

The convention centre’s capture by forces of the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) has robbed ISIS of its key stronghold in Sirte, a coastal town 450 kilometres east of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Photographs from Sirte on Thursday showed the black flag gone and government fighters outside the building holding red, black and green Libyan flags. The sand-coloured structure is now pockmarked with blackened shell holes and most of its windows are shattered.

The Pentagon estimated that 350 ISIS fighters remained in Sirte on Wednesday, with GNA commanders saying the bulk of them were in residential areas close to the coast. It is likely that the remaining ISIS units, having lost their stronghold, will be mopped up in the coming days and weeks. Less clear is how many of Libya’s ISIS fighters, estimated to number 6,000 by Washington earlier this year, remain in guerrilla formations elsewhere in the country. Over the past 18 months ISIS operating in Tripoli have launched an attack on Miteega prison, trying to free tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
comrades, and in January last year killed 9 people in an attack on the city centre Corinthia hotel.

Sixteen government fighters were killed and 11 maimed in Wednesday’s battle, adding to a toll of more than 300 dead and 1,500 maimed in a campaign that began on May 12 against the holy warrior group. The GNA also lost a fighter jet over the town, which ISIS claimed to have shot down. The GNA, however, insisted that the crash was accidental.

The success of the Sirte campaign adds to losses suffered by ISIS in Iraq and Syria and follows the same model, with US air strikes and special forces supporting local ground troops.

More from Arab News

TRIPOLI: Libyan forces battling to oust Daesh from Sirte on Wednesday captured a large convention hall complex in the city center, seizing a symbolic base where terrorists once held meetings and flew their black terror flag.

Securing the Ouagadougou Conference Center as well as hospital and university buildings would mark the biggest advance made by Libyan forces in weeks. The United States 10 days ago began airstrikes on Sirte, which fighters say hastened their progress.

“Our forces have complete control of the whole of the Ouagadougou complex, they even advanced some distance beyond the complex,” Rida Issa, a spokesman in the forces’ media office, said.

Photos posted on the media office’s Facebook page showed fighters with armed pickup trucks and a tank milling around next to the convention hall, which was pockmarked by shelling.

The large domed building is a landmark in Sirte, hometown of late dictator Muammar Qaddafi, and was used for meetings and religious instruction by Daesh after they took control of the city last year.

Losing Sirte would be a major setback for the ultras, already under pressure in Syria and Iraq.

Turkey seeks arrest of ex-soccer star in coup probe
[IsraelTimes] Ankara accuses Hakan Sukur, who is believed to be in the US, of ’membership of an armed terror group,’ ties with preacher Gulen

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has issued an arrest warrant for its former international soccer star striker Hakan Sukur in the probe over the failed July 15 coup aimed at unseating President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
, state media said on Friday.

Sukur is accused by prosecutors in Sakarya province east of Istanbul of being a member of the organization of the US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
who Ankara claims was behind the coup.

His arrest is sought on charges of "membership of an armed terror group," the state-run Anadolu agency said, referring to what Ankara calls the Fethullah Terror Organization (FETO).

Gulen denies such a group exists and accusations he was the criminal mastermind behind the coup.

The agency added that a similar warrant has also been issued for his father Selmet Sukur.

The report said neither man had been found at their Istanbul and Sakarya residences after the warrant was issued, adding Sukur and his family had left Turkey last year.

He is currently believed to be in the United States.

Sukur was one of the stars of Turkey’s third place performance in the 2002 World Cup and a household name in the soccer-mad country.

A striker whose soccer career stretched from 1987 to 2007, Sukur was by far the most prolific goalscorer in the history of the Turkish national side, finding the net 51 times in 112 appearances.

He was a stalwart player for Istanbul side Galatasaray but also had stints abroad for Inter Milan, Parma and Blackburn Rovers.

His goal after just 11 seconds of play against South Korea in 2002 remains the fastest goal in World Cup history.

After soccer, Sukur went into politics and was elected an MP with Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2011.

But he resigned in 2013 after a vast corruption probe that targeted Erdogan and his inner circle, siding with the movement of Erdogan’s arch-foe Gulen.

Sukur had voiced objections to the government move to shut down schools run by Gulen’s movement Hizmet, which means service in Turkish. He had in June gone on trial in absentia on charges of insulting Erdogan on social media.

Bangladesh police arrest five planning suicide attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Bangladesh police said on Friday they had locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
five members of a domestic Islamist Death Eater group planning suicide kabooms in the capital, Dhaka, as authorities hunted for the criminal mastermind of a deadly assault last month.

Police swooped on the cell on Thursday on the outskirts of Dhaka and said the suspects, including four would-be bombers and a bomb-maker, were sent to the capital to bolster the attack capability of the group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s which remains obscure even today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB).

"All of them were from the northern part of the country and were sent to Dhaka," said Monirul Islam, chief of the Dhaka police counter-terrorism unit.

He said the men were planning to launch attacks against high-profile targets in the city but he did not provide details.

Officers recovered jihadi material, 25 detonators and a huge amount of raw materials for explosives at the site in Kalyanpur, the same suburb where police potted nine suspected JMB members on July 26, Islam said.

Police have accused JMB, which has pledged allegiance to ISIS, of a series of attacks over the past 18 months that has ratcheted up worries about the threat of militancy in the Moslem-majority South Asian country.

The attacks include the July 1 assault on an upmarket Dhaka cafe in which 22 people were killed, most of them foreigners.

ISIS grabbed credit for the cafe attack and while the government has dismissed the claim, security experts say the scale and sophistication of the assault suggest links to trans-national networks.

Islam, the counter-terrorism chief, said police believed that Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, a Canadian citizen and prime suspect in the cafe attack, is in Dhaka.

Police are hunting for him, a sacked army major-turned Death Eater, Syed Mohammad Zia ul Haque, and a third suspects known as just "Merjer" in connection with the cafe attack, he said.

Analysts say Chowdhury was the same person ISIS identified in April as its commander in Bangladesh. But the government insists that ISIS has no presence in the country.

WikiLeaks' Email Exposes Billionaire Globalist Soros as Hillary Clinton's Puppet Master
[D.C. Clothesline] Washington, D.C. ‐ Contained within WikiLeaks’ recent release of hacked DNC emails is a message from billionaire globalist financier George Soros, to Hillary Clinton while she was U.S. Secretary of State, that clearly reveals Clinton as a puppet of the billionaire class.

Found within the WikiLeaks’ Hillary Clinton email archive is an email with the subject ’Unrest in Albania,’ in which Soros makes clear to Clinton that "two things need to be done urgently." He then directs the Secretary of State to "bring the full weight of the international community to bear on Prime Minister Berisha" and "appoint a senior European official as mediator." Revealing the influence he wields within the corridors of power, Soros then provides Secretary of State Clinton with three names from which to choose. Unsurprisingly, Clinton acquiesced and chose one of the officials recommended by Soros -- Miroslav Lajcak.

's branch in Afghanistan, a Pentagon front man said Friday.

Khan was killed July 26 as U.S. and Afghan Special Forces conducted operations against the terror group in southern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province, Deputy Press Secretary Gordon Trowbridge said in a statement.

His death comes as part of a major effort to crush the Islamic State, which became a growing threat in Afghanistan earlier this year.

Khan, a former Pak Taliban member, became head of the region's Islamic State branch, known as the Islamic State in the Khorasan Province, in 2015, pledging allegiance to the group's overall leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
Trowbridge said Khan was known to directly participate in attacks against U.S. and coalition forces, and that his network terrorized Afghans, especially in Nangarhar, which borders Pakistain.

The Afghan branch uses the Nangarhar area to train, equip, disseminate and control fighter pipelines, providing Islamic State commanders throughout Afghanistan with a continuous supply of fighters, he said

"Nangarhar province has been a hotbed for (Islamic State) activity since the summer of 2015," Trowbridge said. "Khan’s death affects recruiting efforts and will disrupt (their) operations in Afghanistan and the region."

Afghan Ambassador to Pakistain Omar Zakhilwal told Rooters that the strike also killed several senior Islamic State commanders and fighters.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Anthony Weiner still sexting other women, says Sydney Leathers
[PAGESIX] Sydney Leathers -- the woman whom horndog Anthony Carlos Danger Weiner
...aka Hot Dog Tony, the remarkably offensive sex maniac six-term New York congressman who resigned in 2011, then decided everybody had forgotten by 2013, when he decided to run for mayor of New York City...
sexted as "Carlos Danger," torpedoing his mayoral campaign in 2013 -- has accused the pervy former pol of being up to his old tricks again, with yet another woman.
She's "certain" or she has specific knowledge?
Leathers on Thursday posted a scathing review of the recent documentary "Weiner" -- which covers the sexting scandal -- on Beltway blog Washington Babylon, and in Leathers’ "thumbs down" notice, she writes that Weiner’s "behavior will continue. In fact, I am certain his behavior continues to this day because a woman who claims to be one of his current sexting partners has reached out to me for advice."

But Leathers -- who in 2013 leaked her Weiner story -- exclusively told Page Six she’s advised the mystery woman not to go public.

"She was thinking about talking to press," Leathers told us on Thursday. "I said, ’You shouldn’t do that,’ which would surprise people ... but it was like, ’Look what happened to me. It will impact future employment, relationships with friends and families.’"

Leathers told us that the woman’s correspondence with Weiner took place over Facebook and Skype. "Initially, I didn’t believe it was legit," Leathers told Page Six. But "It’s his actual Facebook -- and the [same] Facebook he used when he contacted me. This was the end of May. From what I gathered, they Skype. It’s Anthony Weiner, he’s not asking about the weather. [For me] he kept the vanilla stuff on Facebook and used ’Carlos Danger’ for the other stuff."
Given what Bill has put Hilarity through, Huma might just think this is normal behavior...

Africa Horn
IMF Sees Funding for Somalia If Govt Sticks to Reforms
Somalia may be eligible to tap financing from the International Monetary Fund and other multilateral lenders if it maintains a reform program intended to help rebuild the country’s war-shattered economy, the IMF country head said.

Prospects for peace after more than two decades of conflict have been boosted after Somalis agreed to elect a new administration on Oct 30, Samba Thiam said in an e-mailed response to questions Aug 9.

The IMF expects the Horn of Africa nation to open up to foreign capital as the government continues to improve its management of the economy, he said.
This will allow both Somalis and foreigners with the right connections to wet their beaks. The kinds of connections the IMF excels at...
“Progress has been made already in the areas of investment law, procurement, contract concessions, public financial management and anti-money laundering,” Mr Thiam said.

“If the current and subsequent programs are successfully implemented, in the future Somalia may indeed access IMF financing.”

Somalia’s US$6 billion economy has been devastated by civil war that began in 1991 and a subsequent Islamist-militant insurgency that has destroyed much of the country’s political and economic institutions, according to the World Bank. Income per capita is estimated at US$435, making Somalia the fifth-poorest country in the world.

The IMF and World Bank are supporting a raft of reforms that are making Somalia’s business sector “more attractive,” Mr Thiam said. Donors have provided US$10 million to develop local skills, he said.

The IMF has also backed a plan by the Central Bank of Somalia to print its own currency by 2017, Mr Thiam said. The bank is in the final phase of discussions with donors to secure funding for currency reforms, Governor Bashir Issa Ali said in a phone interview from the capital, Mogadishu.

Somalia’s economy will probably grow 3.7 per cent this year and next, according to IMF estimates.
That will make per capita income about $470 a year. But some folks with the right connections will do far better than that, which is the whole point...
Companies including Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp, and BP Plc are in talks about returning to the country, the presidency said in August 2014.
Cha-Ching...
Institutions and effective legislation, along with the ability to negotiate contracts with oil and gas investors should be in place before any permits are issued, Mr Thiam said.

India-Pakistan
LeT terrorist reveals points of infiltration
[ECONOMICTIMES.INDIATIMES] NEW DELHI: Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Bahadur Ali's interrogation has revealed how Pakistan-based terrorists, after in filtrating into India through the line of control, manage to dodge security forces for days, sometimes months without any problem.

Based on Ali's interrogation, Indian agencies NIA and intelligence bureauhave identified several `infiltration routes' used by LeT, Jaishe-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen cadres in north Kashmir. Besides, Ali's interrogation has thrown light on the modus operandi used by terrorists.

21-year-old Ali, who was directed by Hafiz Saeed's son-in-law Khalid Waleed to attack crowds in Kashmir with grenades, started for India on June 1112 this year along with two others, Saad and Darda, after receiving full-fledged military training in LeT camps, identified as K2 in Manshera, Aksa (Muzaffarabad) and Tabbok in Muzaffarabad.

The interrogation report of Ali, accessed by TOI, states that they left LeT detachment in Mandaukli village near Muzaffarabad on June 8, accompanied by Amir (head) of the camp, Abu Haider. Haider made Saad head of the group of three who were to `wage jihad' on India.

"Each of us were given a backpack consisting of 20 rotis, dates, almonds, compass, night vision device, GPS, map, matrix sheets (with coded targets), unicode sheets, wireless sets, two sets of salwar kameez, medicines, AK47 with 5 magazines having 30 rounds of live ammunition each and extra ammunition. Haider gave Rs 30,000 each to Saad and Darda and Rs 23,000 to me for meeting our expenses," Ali claimed.

They cut the barbed wire near the border at Handwara and entered the Indian territory. "We typically travelled from the wee hours till 9-10 am in the morning, rested during the day and resumed our journey between 5-6 pm and travelled till midnight. We reached a village Vadar around June 2021," Ali said.

On June 22, Ali got separated from Saad and Darda when they went to the village to collect food. Ali remained in the jungle for almost one month and was continuously being assisted by suspected overground workers of LeT and other outfits. "I spent three days near GR point 8 given by control room in Muzaffarabad.I got food from one Bakarwal (tribe on mountains) and then shifted to jungle near village Mokam.

There one person provided me food," he said.

On directions from the PoK based LeT control room, Ali met four other trained terrorists at a nearby location communicated to him. A shepherd from Zairat village in the valley continued giving Ali food and also informed him that the two other terrorists had come and left for the jungle before him. After a few days, another local met Ali and made him talk to Khalid Waleed using his mobile phone. Ali was arrested on July 25.

The government on Thursday informed Parliament that 611 incidents of infiltration have taken place during the first six months of 2016.

Most Islamic State-Related Defendants Get Maximum Sentence
[ABCNEWS.GO] The majority of terrorism defendants in the United States who have been sentenced for supporting the Islamic State

group received the maximum 15 years in prison, according to a summary filed Friday by federal prosecutors in Minnesota.

The summary, created at the request of the judge presiding over Minnesota's terrorism cases, comes as nine men await sentencing for plotting to join the Islamic State group.

Eight of the 13 defendants nationwide who have been sentenced for either providing, attempting to provide or conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State group have received the maximum sentence, the report said. Three of those eight got even longer penalties because they received consecutive sentences on multiple counts.

The report looked at sentencing data of Islamic State-related cases over the last two years and focused on material support convictions, not sentences for convictions such as lying during a terror investigation.

U.S. District Judge Michael Davis ordered prosecutors Friday to continue to update the list until the nine men, who prosecutors say were part of a group of friends who inspired and recruited each other to join the Islamic State organization, are sentenced. A date for that has not been set.

All nine were convicted of conspiracy to support a foreign terrorist organization, but three also face a possible life sentence after they were convicted of conspiracy to commit murder overseas.

Some of the cases cited in the report are similar to the Minnesota cases: In two separate cases, a Texas man got nearly seven years and a Georgia man got 15 years after they were tossed in the clink
You have the right to remain silent...
while trying to leave the U.S. A New Jersey man received 15 years after planning to join the Islamic State group himself and helping his brother successfully make the trip abroad.

Davis has been open-minded when it comes to sentencing terror defendants in Minnesota, and has pioneered a program that's designed to assess a defendant's prospects for de-radicalization and risk of re-offense. He has said he plans to use that information in sentencing.

Bob Sicoli, an attorney for one Minnesota man awaiting sentencing, said every case is different and he doesn't believe Friday's summary will have much bearing on the fate of his client, who cooperated with the government and testified at trial.

Of the cases summarized by in the report, a Colorado woman received the lightest sentence with four years. Prosecutors in that case argued for less than five years, citing her cooperation with the government.

The report also included a case that was not related to the Islamic State group in which a man was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder overseas. He and his co-defendant were each sentenced to 25 years in prison. Prosecutors said they included this case because it was the only one they found with that charge.

Afghanistan
Heavy fighting as Afghan Taliban edge closer to Helmand capital
[The National] Fighting raged in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province on Thursday after Afghanistan rushed military reinforcements to beat back Taliban forces of Evil advancing on the capital of the southern poppy-growing region.

Afghan forces fought back forces of Evil in Nawa district, south of Lashkar Gah city, on Wednesday, raising alarm that the placid provincial capital was at risk.

Afghan and US officials said they would not allow another urban centre to be captured, after the Taliban briefly overran northern Kunduz city last September in their biggest victory in 15 years of war.

"The security situation in Lashkar Gah is under our control," said defence ministry front man Dawlat Waziri.

"We have retaken control of Nawa. Fighting is still going on in the outskirts but we are making progress with clearance operations," he said, adding that dozens of Taliban were killed in the fight.

Battles in recent days across Helmand, seen as the focal point of the insurgency, sent thousands of people fleeing to Lashkar Gah, resulting in a humanitarian crisis as officials reported food and water shortages.

The United States has stepped up air strikes supporting Afghan forces, highlighting the intensity of the battle in Helmand.

The turmoil underscored an unravelling security situation in Afghanistan.

About 30,000 people have been displaced in Helmand in recent weeks, officials said, with many of those fleeing to Lashkar Gah forced to abandon their lentil, maize and cotton crops during the lucrative harvest season.

"We left everything behind in Nawa ‐ our house, our grape and maize harvests. We fled with 15 members of my family to Lashkar Gah, fearing for our lives," Mohammad Ali, 40, said in a camp in the placid provincial capital.

"For the last three days we have been surviving on bread and water. We will die of hunger."

The residents of Lashkar Gah said the city was besieged, with roads from neighbouring districts heavily mined by the krazed killers.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said it had downscaled its team in Lashkar Gah, with some non-medical staff moved from the city.

"In Helmand, #Afghanistan, we’re still running Boost hospital... as fighting nears," the international medical charity tweeted on Wednesday.

"We’ve shared coordinates of our 300 bed hospital to approaching warring parties in Helmand."

The Taliban controls or contests 10 of the 14 districts in Helmand, the deadliest province for British and US forces in Afghanistan over the past decade.

#1  I'm sure that, somehow, this will be discovered to be bad for global worming/climate change.

Keeping the radio waves inside the more potent ionosphere will add to the heat inside the greenhouse. On the other hand, fewer waves will leak out into space, which make a beacon to extraterrestrials undocumented foreign immigrants who want to come in and vote for Hillary.
