Killing Two Birds With One Stone: KKK Plans To Disrupt BLM Rally In The Hamptons
The Klu Klux Klan is coming to the Hamptons.

The hate group -- which says it has some 2,500 members on Long Island -- is planning to disrupt a Black Lives Matter rally scheduled for noon Sunday at the traffic circle near Village Hall in Westhampton Beach, according to Patch.com.

Gary Monker, the Exalted Cyclops Chief Officer of the KKK’s New York chapter, told Patch on Tuesday that Black Lives Matter and the Black Panthers group aren’t who they say they are.

"[They are] a contradiction," Monker told Patch. "They always say they have peaceful protests but nothing is ever peaceful. They rape, pilfer, loot. They’re rioting and using this as an excuse to do wrong. It’s not right."

Black Lives Matter officials argued that their rallies are always peaceful.

"[There has been] absolutely no violence. Where is he getting his information?," Black Lives Matter organizer Vanessa Vascez-Corleone told Patch.

Vascez-Corleone said the KKK was welcome to show up -- if they have the guts.

"I would like to invite them to the rally. I honestly don’t believe they’re going to show up. I hope they come out of hiding," she told Patch.

"As for drugs and rape, those are all separate issues in everyone’s community, including the white community so that’s irrelevant," she said, adding: "Everything he’s saying is ignorant. It’s hard to respond to ignorance."

Meanwhile, Monker claimed the KKK is undergoing a resurgence -- not just in New York, but across the country.

The group’s primary goal, Monker claimed, is to "end the corruption" by dismantling the Federal Reserve and Internal Revenue Service.

The cowardly hate group -- whose members shield their faces by wearing hoods -- was founded in Tennessee in 1866 and soon spread like wildfire in almost every Southern state in the US, waging an underground war against Reconstruction-era Republican leaders who advocated for economic equality for all blacks.

The group’s violent and murderous tactics reached their pinnacle during the 1960s civil rights era.

The Grand Turk
More on bombed Turks
[FoxNews] A string of bombings, blamed on Kurdish rebels and targeting Turkey's security forces, killed at least 14 people and wounded more than 220 others, officials said Thursday.

Two of the attacks were car bombings that hit police stations in eastern Turkey, while a third — a roadside blast — targeted a military vehicle carrying soldiers in the southeast of the country.

Authorities say the assaults were carried out by the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, which has launched a campaign of car bombings targeting police stations or roadside bomb attacks against security force vehicles. Last week, PKK commander Cemil Bayik threatened increased attacks against police in Turkish cities.

Louisiana paper to Obama: Cut vacation short
He can only come out for important things. Like fundraising for Hillary.
Amid historic devastation in Louisiana, the state's largest daily newspaper is calling on President Barack Obama, who is being kept abreast of the situation by White House officials, to cut his Martha's Vineyard getaway short to view flood-ravaged areas of the state.

"A disaster this big begs for the personal presence of the President at ground zero," read the editorial published in The Advocate on Thursday. "In coming here, the President can decisively demonstrate that Louisiana's recovery is a priority for his administration -- and the United States of America."

"The President's vacation is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday. But he should pack his bags now, and pay a call on communities who need to know that in a national catastrophe, they are not alone," read the column. "The President's presence is already late to this crisis, but it's better later than never."

Calling Obama's vacation destination "a playground for the posh and well-connected," the paper said that the waters had receded enough to allow for a presidential visit.

Before emerging from his vacation compound Wednesday for a round of golf, Obama spoke with FEMA administrator Craig Fugate, who had been dispatched to view the damage caused by two feet of rain which fell at the end of last week.

On Thursday, Obama's Homeland Security secretary Jeh Johnson was set visit the region to "review the ongoing response," the White House said.

But as of Thursday morning, there were no announced plans for Obama to cut his vacation short, nor was Obama planning to address the flooding in an in-person statement.

Earlier in the week, Obama phoned the state's governor, John Bel Edwards, shortly after approving the Democrat's request for federal disaster funding. The White House said Obama's top homeland security official Lisa Monaco, traveling with him on Martha's Vineyard, was updating him on new developments, along with other aides.

The federal assistance structure is the result of an overhaul after a widely maligned response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Congress passed legislation a year after the storm that allowed FEMA to work more closely with local and state governments in administering aid.

Like Obama, President George W. Bush was on vacation as Katrina devastated parts of Louisiana. He cut his stay at his Texas ranch short by two days to return to Washington -- assessing the flooding from above on Air Force One during the return trip. Despite those efforts, Bush's response to Katrina was viewed as inadequate, and Bush himself acknowledged the period inflicted lasting damage on his reputation as commander in chief.

In the editorial on Thursday, The Advocate warned Obama against repeating Bush's mistakes.

"We've seen this story before in Louisiana, and we don't deserve a sequel," the paper wrote. "In 2005, a fly-over by a vacationing President George W. Bush became a symbol of official neglect for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The current president was among those making political hay out of Bush's aloofness."

When presidents travel on vacation, the job of running the federal government is never far away. Aides and secure communication equipment are all moved to the getaway destination to ensure that updates and briefings can continue apace.

Obama has been loath to interrupt his vacations for public appearances, however, and said during a Monday night fundraiser for Hillary Clinton that first lady Michelle Obama typically insists he avoid working.

"Michelle is very strict about me actually taking a vacation when I get a vacation," he said. "She gave me a special dispensation for this evening because she understands, just as all of you understand, how important this is."

The newspaper editorial said Thursday that "if the President can interrupt his vacation for a swanky fundraiser for fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton, as he did on Monday, then surely he can make time to show up for a catastrophe that's displaced thousands."

The paper praised the work of FEMA, calling it a "far cry" from the bungled response to Katrina. The agency said on Wednesday it was providing federal aid to assist with rental payments for temporary housing, grants for home repairs and property replacement, unemployment assistance for Louisiana residents who lost jobs due to the flooding, and assistance to small businesses affected by the rising waters.

More than 70,000 people had registered for individual assistance since the federal disaster was declared, and more than 9,000 had filed flood insurance claims, according to the federal disaster agency.

Obama's formula for responding to federal disasters has remained largely the same in the past several years, typically including a phone call to the governor and approval of requests for federal assistance. In some cases, he's traveled to communities hit by natural disasters, including viewing tornadoes in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and viewed destruction in New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy.

Republicans question Trump's travel choices, tight purse strings
The last time Connecticut voted for a Republican presidential candidate, Americans were listening to music on cassette tapes and most cell phones were the size of shoe boxes.

Yet Donald Trump's campaign spokesman insists they believe he has a chance to turn Connecticut red for the first time since 1988, and that's why he is holding weekend rally there on Saturday.

Veteran Republicans, however, see Trump's Fairfield, Connecticut, campaign stop ares a fool's errand -- a prime example of what many worry is a political operation that takes Trump's proclivity for defying convention a step too far.

Trump has spent most of his campaign time in real battleground states: Florida, Virginia, Iowa and Pennsylvania. But with the general election now in full swing, any time spent in a solidly blue state feels atypical.

And, it isn't just Connecticut that has Republicans scratching their heads. Trump traveled to Maine last week, a state that has also been blue since 1992.

Trump campaign spokesman Jason Miller says their internal polling shows him up in Maine. Plus, Maine awards two of its four electoral votes by congressional district, of which there are two, and Trump is very popular in one of them.

Concerned Republicans say their worries go beyond the campaign's decision to send its greatest resource -- the candidate himself -- to chase one or two electoral votes in Maine, or to what they believe are unwinnable states like Connecticut. The other phenomenon perplexing veteran operatives is that the Trump campaign now has the needed money to finance television ads and ground operations -- they just don't appear to be spending it.

Spending nothing on TV ads

The imbalance in ad spending is astonishing. Since the end of the primaries, Hillary Clinton has spent $42.9 million in ads. Donald Trump has spent zero.

"They have to spend money efficiently right now to avoid getting buried by Hillary," argued Austin Barbour, a longtime Republican political operative.

"We saw this in 2012 against Obama when we were working on Romney. They were burying us with negative ads in swing states well before Labor Day. That same thing is happening with Trump," added Barbour.

Miller says the Trump campaign plans to start running television ads "soon" but declined to go further than that, saying he doesn't want to reveal internal campaign strategy.

Democrats see chance to reshape map as Trump stumbles

Trump himself regularly complains about the content of Clinton's paid television ads. "They're false, they're deceptive, and they know they're false," said Trump last week in New Hampshire.

Still, he declared it too early for him to be spending money, and compared himself to an "old race horse" saying he is hanging back to see what happens.

"I think we have some pretty good ads but we don't want to go too fast. Just nice and easy," said Trump.

But many Republicans wonder what Trump is waiting for, since Clinton has used time and money to define herself, and more importantly, Trump, without much of a retort.

"Getting buried by paid media is a very real problem. There is no worse feeling on a campaign than seeing your opponent hit you in a TV and you're not responding," said Barbour.

During the Republican primaries, Trump's strategy to rely on "earned media" -- the fact that he was a celebrity candidate who deluged the airwaves with interviews -- worked. He won despite hundreds of millions of dollars spent by his opponents.

But the general election is quite different. The electorate he must reach to win goes beyond the GOP base yearning for a populist, off-beat and sometimes off-color candidate like Trump.

Some Republicans outside the Trump campaign think paid advertising could be especially helpful for a candidate like Trump, who lacks discipline, to maintain a consistent message for voters. He has spent the past three weeks creating news story after news story with decidedly off-message comments -- the biggest of which was going after Khizr and Ghazala Khan, Gold Star parents who attacked Trump at the Democratic convention.

Others, however, say they worry paid advertising is a waste of time if the candidate doesn't effectively mirror the messages in "earned media" --- what Trump says on the stump or in interviews.

Money and organization

When Trump first locked up the GOP nomination, he was a self-funder who was starting raising campaign cash from scratch. Early fundraising reports were paltry, but that is no longer the case.

Earlier this month, the campaign announced raising $64 million dollars in donations for July, mostly in conjunction with the Republican National Committee.

And though the Trump campaign made the unorthodox decision to rely heavily on the RNC for its ground operation in battleground states, some are still alarmed at the lagging operations.

Veteran New Hampshire Republican Tom Rath, an RNC Committeeman who has been through decades of presidential politics in the Granite State, says the Trump ground game in that important swing state is minimal.

"Republicans want to see a campaign that has a clear strategic direction that reflects reality and is backed up by a disciplined message and resources," said Rath.

"While it is not too late, it is getting close to that," he added.

No Republican has ever won the White House without winning Ohio. Yet the Cincinnati Enquirer reported this week that Trump doesn't even have an office in Hamilton County, the most crucial Republican county in the most crucial GOP state.

"The campaign has yet to find or appoint key local leaders or open a campaign office in the county and isn't yet sure which Hamilton County Republican party's central committee members are allied with the Republican presidential nominee," reported the Enquirer.

In other key states like Florida, where Trump, along with the RNC, does have staff, they are outnumbered by Democrats. The RNC says it has over 70 paid staffers and plans at least 20 offices statewide. Democrats already have 200 staffers and say they're aiming for 100 offices in Florida.

Time to change course?

Trump's low-budget approach carried him to victory in the primaries, but even he seems to now realize the general election against Clinton is quite different.

At a rally Thursday in Florida, Trump, who normally only speaks about winning, admitted he is having a "tremendous problem" in reliably red Utah.

And new swing state poll numbers from NBC, The Wall Street Journal and Marist show Trump lagging behind Clinton in four crucial swing states: Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Now, with fewer than 100 days until the election, the question is whether Trump's "hang back" strategy with his money and advertising will work -- allow him to come from behind and win the race.

#1  He will loose, but there will be profit.

#2  Trump should be able to repay his loans to the campaign using donor cash. We've always viewed pols to be self-absorbed. It looks like Trump has raised "looking out for No. 1" on the political stage to a whole new level.

Africa North
Klingon asset control problem and U.S. headache in Libya
[In Military] He’s a grandfather and longtime Washington suburbanite who now commands a powerful fighting force in northern Africa. He’s also a former CIA asset and anti-Islamist warrior who stands in the way of peace in Libya.

The United States and its allies can’t figure out what to do about Khalifa Hifter, the Libyan general whose refusal to support a fragile unity government has jeopardized hopes for stability in a country plagued by conflict.

Since he emerged as an important post-revolution figure in 2014, Western governments have struggled to define an effective policy to deal with Hifter, who has styled himself as an antidote to extremists while building his own power base and shunning the political process brokered by the United Nations.

"Hifter is threatening many of the Western-backed initiatives in Libya and the establishment of a recognized political power," said Barak Barfi, a scholar at New America, a Washington think tank. "Hifter doesn’t have the strength on the battlefield to deliver on his promises to defeat Islamists, but he can act as a spoiler."

Even as militia forces, backed by U.S. air power, make progress against the Islamic State in central Libya, Hifter looms as a primary impediment to White House hopes for restoring the democratic promise of the 2011 revolution that ended dictator Moammar Gaddafi’s long rule.

Hifter’s role in a much earlier, CIA-backed attempt to overthrow Gaddafi injects another element of complexity into American efforts to end Libya’s long crisis.

A former senior U.S. official, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said that Hifter’s connections across the Middle East and beyond have made it difficult for the Obama administration to develop a unified strategy to confront or co-opt him.

"Even if there had been unity of thought within the U.S. government, we didn’t have the capability to marginalize him and we also didn’t have the capacity to integrate him," the official said. "He was this free electron."

Hifter, who got to know Gaddafi as a young military officer, appeared to be a loyal follower of the Libyan leader until 1987, when he and 400 other troops were captured by opposing forces in neighboring Chad, where he served as a commander in the Libyan leader’s war there.

Hifter turned against his onetime patron when Gaddafi repudiated the failed campaign in Chad, along with the prisoners of war and Hifter himself. Hifter joined the National Front for the Salvation of Libya (NFSL), a U.S.-backed group of Libyan dissidents that was laying plans to topple Gaddafi.

President Ronald Reagan’s White House had previously approved a covert operation, code-named "Tulip," that aimed to channel support to dissident groups with the goal of overthrowing the Libyan leader. Gaddafi had ties to terrorist groups and was allied with the Soviet Union. Reagan branded him "the mad dog of the Middle East."

It was in Chad that Hifter’s men connected with U.S. intelligence agents, according to multiple former officials who were involved in the Libya operation.

According to one former official, the Libyan soldiers under Hifter were trained by personnel from the CIA’s Special Activities Division, the agency's paramilitary arm. The CIA declined to comment.

The former official described Hifter as a tough, experienced soldier. "He’s a hardhead, but he’s a reasonable man," he said.
The planned coup attempt went nowhere, and U.S. officials were forced to rescue the Libyans in 1990, when a new Chadian leader prepared to throw them out. The men were flown to Nigeria and then Zaire, but it soon became clear that no African leader wanted them.
"It was a long, sad history of trying to dispose of them and finding a place for them to live," a former intelligence official said.
Six months later, a U.S. military aircraft flew about 350 Libyan rebels to the United States. Some of the rebels, including Hifter, continued to train with weapons in rural Virginia in anticipation of another coup attempt, according to Bechara Charbel, a journalist working for the pan-Arab newspaper Hayat who visited a training camp at the time.

Hifter, living in Northern Virginia, eventually split from the NFSL but remained active in dissident circles.

After Libyans rose up in 2011, Hifter returned to northern Africa but failed to secure the backing of interim leaders to head rebel military operations against Gaddafi. He came back to Virginia "to enjoy my grandchildren," he told New Yorker magazine.

In February 2014, seemingly out of nowhere, the general released a video announcing a military coup. He railed against the inability of the then-central government to confront armed Islamist groups that had grown strong after the revolution.

At the State Department, officials scrambled to respond. "Everyone was like, ’Is this a joke?’ " one former State Department official said. "Because this guy had been living in Vienna forever," referring to the suburb in Northern Virginia. The coup gained no traction, and the episode was widely derided.

Soon afterward, with support from tribal and political factions, Hifter launched "Operation Dignity," a bid to clear eastern Libya of militant groups including Ansar al-Sharia, which was blamed for the 2012 attack on U.S. personnel in Benghazi. As Libya's political crisis expanded, lawmakers in the eastern city of Tobruk named him their top military commander.

Hifter's actions also won him favor from some ordinary Libyans desperate for a response to rampant crime and lawlessness.

"In the east, he is a hero . . . someone who was able to take initiative when [others] failed to do so," said Mohamed Eljarh, a scholar with the Atlantic Council. "That is what won him trust, credibility and popularity."

Col. Ahmed Mesmari, a spokesman for the forces that Hifter commands, said they had sacrificed thousands of troops but succeeded in weakening a range of militant groups.

But the campaign -- which without a definitive military victory has left much of Benghazi in tatters and put civilians under threat -- has also fueled divisions among Libyans. Hifter’s forces have clashed sporadically with groups now aligned with the U.S.-backed government. In Tripoli and other parts of western Libya, some see Hifter as more dangerous than the Islamic State.

But the general has powerful allies, including the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, which have encouraged his campaign in the eastern part of the country. French troops have been using Benghazi's Benina air base, where Hifter's forces also operate. And although it is unclear what relationship he has with the French, he has benefited from the perception of outside backing.

Hifter has been compared favorably to Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, the general-turned-strongman president in Egypt who shares the Libyan’s desire to quash the region’s Islamists.

"He's been able to parlay what I think has been uneven military performance into political leverage," said Frederic Wehrey, an expert on Libya at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. "Regional support is a key factor."

Like other top political leaders in the east, Hifter has refused to support the Tripoli-based unity government, as required under a U.N.-brokered political deal, until it secures the backing from lawmakers in the eastern city of Tobruk.

"Hifter is not interested in democracy," the former State Department official said. "I don't even think he's particularly interested in peace."

At the heart of the impasse is Hifter's own future and plans by the new unity government that would strip the general of his command. Mesmari denied that Hifter and those under him were interested in politics, saying they want to protect Libya from a new government that he said had ties to Islamist factions. "We are military men," Mesmari said. "Our task is maintain the security in Libya."

Hoping to signal support for the unity government, U.S. diplomats have steered clear of Hifter, but neither do they expect a future for Libya without him. U.S. officials now hope to build support for giving Hifter a regional military position in the unity government.

But it seems unlikely the general, seizing his chance so many years after Gaddafi abandoned him in Chad, would accept a subordinate job.

Last week, the U.N. envoy to Libya acknowledged that support for the unity government, mired in infighting, is slipping away, threatening to collapse the Western project in Libya and creating the prospect of indefinite civil conflict and terrorist activity. That may help the general, Eljarh said, as he consolidates his position and continues to portray himself as the only man who can save Libya.

"Hifter feeds on the failure of governance, the failure of initiative and the failure of the international community to come up with solutions that are workable," he said.

The Grand Turk
More bombed Turks
[RussiaToday] At least 10 killed, almost 300 wounded in string of blasts in eastern Turkey

A third explosion in the past 24 hours has rocked eastern Turkey, killing four security personnel and injuring seven in Bitlis province. It comes after two car bombings targeted police stations, leaving at least six people dead and as many as 290 injured.

First, village guard Müslüm Yaldız was killed, and a soldier wounded in clashes with PKK militants in the village of Nazar, Hurriyet Daily News reports. Then, a hand-made explosive went off on a road near the village of Gayda, when a military vehicle was passing by. Three soldiers were killed and six injured in that attack.

Early Thursday, a car bombing hit police headquarters in the eastern Turkish city of Elazig, the administrative center of Elazig Province. At least three police officers were killed, according to local Governor Murat Zorluoglu. The Turkish premier Binali Yildirim put the number of those injured at 217, after the governor's office earlier said 146 people were wounded.

A bomb-carrying car exploded in front of the police station building, creating a hole in it and severely damaging the facility, according to local media.

Another car bombing attack on a police station in the eastern province of Van, near the Iranian border, killed a police officer and two civilians late Wednesday.

At least 73 people, 53 of them civilians and another 20 police officers, were injured, an official told AP.

Turkish authorities blamed the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) for both attacks.

Arabia
Houthis cut last supply route into Taiz
Houthi militias and forces loyal to ousted former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh have cut the last supply routes on Tuesday between major cities Aden and Taiz.

The news comes more than two weeks after a UN report said that the Houthis had concealed fighters and equipment in or close to civilians in Al Mukha in the Taiz Governorate “with the deliberate aim of avoiding attack” and in violation of international humanitarian law.

Late on Tuesday, a rocket fired by Yemeni militias also killed seven civilians inside Saudi Arabia on, the civil defense agency said.

It was the highest reported number of civilian casualties in the kingdom's south since a Saudi-led coalition intervened 17 months ago in Yemen.

Soddys hammer several provinces in Yemen
The Saudi-led aggression on Yemen has reached its extreme madness after escalating its operations against the civilians in the various provinces.

The Riyadh's hirelings pounded on Tuesday Serwah district of Mareb province with artillery shells, a local official was quoted by SABA news agency as saying.

The official added the hirelings intensified shelling on houses and farms in different areas in Serwah causing huge damage to the areas.

The Saudi fighter jets launched on Tuesday tens of air raids on Taiz province, a local official said.

The fighter jets targeted a large water tank in al-Qawaeda Akbosh village in al-Ahkom area with many air raids and destroyed it completely. Some 20,000 people in the villages of al-Ahkom area were bringing their drinking water from the tank, the official said.

Moreover, the Saudi jets waged four air raids on the governmental compound in Samee district causing huge damage to the compound.

The Saudi fighter jets targeted Mocha city with four raids and caused great damage to houses and private and government facilities.

The Saudi warplanes hit on Tuesday two houses in Majaz district of Sa'ada province, a security official said.

The hostile warplanes targeted Dhayan districts with four air raids in Majaz district, destroying the two houses completely.

More from Al Arabiya, including video footage of the Festivities
Saudi-led coalition forces have bombed Houthi militia sites close to the border cities of Najran and Jazan.

Among the bombed targets, were shells, rockets launchers and vehicles in addition to groups of militiamen who were present in the caves and valleys.

The coalition warplanes recently bombed Houthi fighters from Yemen seeking to infiltrate Saudi Arabia.

Tuesday, a rocket fired by Yemeni rebels killed seven civilians inside Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, the civil defense agency said.

It was the highest reported number of civilian casualties in the kingdom's south since a Saudi-led coalition intervened 17 months ago in Yemen.

The escalation in violence was one of the worst since peace talks began in Kuwait in April between Yemen’s government and the Houthis to end a 16-month conflict that has left more than 6,400 people dead, nearly half of them civilians, and displaced more than 2.5 million.

A truce that began in April has slowed the momentum of fighting, but violence continues almost daily.

Prospects for progress in the talks dimmed further this week when Houthi rebels and their allies in the political party of former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, announced they had decided to form a political council to unilaterally rule the country.

Sharpton trashes Trump’s message for black voters
[POLITICO] Donald Trump declared on Tuesday night that the Democratic Party had "failed and betrayed" black voters. But the civil rights hustler Al Sharpton
...Tawana Brawley's spiritual advisor...
and other liberal black leaders are saying it’s Trump who’s full of false promises.

"If he cares about black voters, he certainly has shown a complete disregard and disrespect for addressing them and their issues," Sharpton told POLITICO in a phone interview Wednesday afternoon. "I don’t know what’s in his head, but I know where his body has been. And it’s been absent in terms of black concerns and black people and black audiences throughout his campaign."

While a shakeup of Trump's campaign on Wednesday largely overshadowed his apparent attempt to improve his meager standing among African-American voters, Sharpton and others said his effort was no overture to African-Americans anyway.

Sharpton, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as For a good time at 3 a.m. call Hillary and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Dean Acheson ...
, noted that Trump delivered remarks "with hardly no blacks in the audience" during his late-night rally in West Bend, Wisconsin, where he blamed Clinton for poverty and crime in America’s inner cities, called for more police on the streets and vowed to appoint the nation’s top prosecutors and judges and to increase enforcement of federal laws.

"To put more police out there without changing policing and without dealing with the issues is to increase the tension and increase of potential problems, not decrease," said Sharpton, who called Trump’s rhetoric on policing the "antithesis" of what should be done. "So either he has no understanding of the issue or he’s taking an absolute, adversarial position to where the country’s moving, or a combination of both."

Time.com has Mr. Trump's entire speech here. Read it and judge for yourself, dear Reader.

Three killed, 40 wounded in car bomb near Turkish police station
[TODAYONLINE] Three people were killed and 40 were maimed when a boom-mobile went kaboom! near a cop shoppe in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

's eastern province of Van near the Iranian border on Wednesday, state broadcaster TRT said, citing the local governor.

Police and ambulances were seen rushing in, according to another broadcaster, the privately owned Dogan news agency.

The station also serves as a police barracks, TRT said, citing a statement from the local governor. It was not immediately clear how many police and civilians were among the dead and maimed.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on live television there had been an attack on a cop shoppe in Van but did not elaborate.

No one immediately grabbed credit for the attack. Kurdish holy warriors frequently target cop shoppes and other security force outposts with boom-mobiles.

Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast has been scorched by violence since a 2-1/2-year ceasefire between the state and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party fell apart in July last year.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas Expresses Concern over Ties with Iran
And so they should. They're selling their Arab souls to the Iranian Shiite devil for a mere 30 pieces of silver. It's a betrayal of all the truly awful things the Muslim Brotherhood stands for.
[Asharq al-Aswat] Commander of Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,’ West Bank Department Saleh al-Arouri has expressed deep concern over the high cost that the movement might pay to Iran in return for the military and financial support received by Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, sources affiliated with Islamic movement in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
said.

Arouri, who resides in Turkey, accused Commander of Iran’s Quds Force Qassem Soleimani of attempting to "lure Hamas by blurring the identity of the Qassam Brigades and integrate it with Quds Force to become an Iranian executive tool."

Arouri said in a closed session that Soleimani wants Hamas’ full loyalty similar to the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
movement, which announced its allegiance to Iran during a visit to Tehran by a delegation headed by its Secretary General Ramadan Shalah.

Arouri expressed fear that Hamas would be blacklisted by Arabs and the West due to its armed wing’s loyalty to Iran. He also feared that relations between al-Qassam and Iranian Revolutionary Guards might be similar to ties that exist between the Lebanese so-called Hezbollah and Iran.

His statements came amid disputes inside Hamas movement on relations with different axes in the region.

One faction in Hamas supports restoring relations with Iran at the expense of other Arab countries, while another faction rejects repairing ties.

Among those supporting the restoration of relations with Iran is Hamas official Mahmoud al-Zahar, who has very close ties to al-Qassam Brigades.

In the closed session, Arouri talked about Hamas’ participation in municipal elections, and expressed support to Zahar’s statements regarding not letting the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
return to the Gazoo Strip.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
Arouri criticized Zahar’s announcements, especially that the latter expressed his stance during interviews with Iranian media, such as Fares News Agency.

Arouri said Zahar’s remarks won’t benefit Hamas, which will appear to be disregarding the Cairo and Doha agreement.

Al-Qaeda Terrorists Surrender to Yemen Army
[Asharq al-Aswat] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
Army affirmed that a number of al-Qaeda members in Yemen surrendered, in response to Yemeni forces call that those involved in terrorist groups but with clean hands surrender to local authorities.

Yemeni army spokesperson, Brigadier Samir Al Haj told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Yemeni forces in cooperation with the Saudi-led coalition leadership issued a statement addressing those who were deceived and persuaded to join terrorist groups. The military’s call received positive reactions as a number of wanted persons gave in.

"Going back to the right track is still an option," said Haj, adding that the population of terrorist gunnies is declining day after day. "We do not support war and we are keen to keep Yemeni people away from harm, but anyone who breaches the law will be battled to protect Yemeni people and territory," he continued. Forces continue to purge Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
Governorate of al-Qaeda members and have seized 80% of the region, according to Haj.

Security forces issued a statement that it would grant amnesty to terrorist groups’ members who surrender, following the notable victory in Hadramout

province and successive victories in arresting a huge number of top figures in terrorist groups. The statement guaranteed that "members involved in terrorist groups will not be prosecuted when surrendering."

Furthermore, Yemen’s Interior Minister Major General Hussein Mohammed Arab appointed on Tuesday head of Abyan purge operation Abdullah Naser al-Fadli as head of Abyan police department. This decision was highly welcomed by both, authorities and people.

Major General Arab told Asharq Al-Awsat that the military campaign will continue in order to maintain peace and stability and avert those committing evil, terrorism and murder.

Venezuela crushes 2,000 guns in public, plans registry of bullets
[TODAYONLINE] Venezuelan police crushed and chopped up nearly 2,000 shotguns and pistols in a Caracas city square on Wednesday, as the new interior minister relaunched a long-stalled gun control campaign in one of the world's most crime-ridden countries.

Interior Minister Nestor Reverol said the event marked the renewal of efforts to disarm Venezuelans, through a combination of seizures and a voluntary program to swap guns for electrical goods.

Venezuela has the world's second highest murder rate and the street gangs that plague its poor neighborhoods have become increasingly heavily armed in recent years, at a time when a deep recession has reduced resources available to police.

Gangs often get weapons from the police, either by stealing them or buying them from corrupt officers, experts say.

With inflation of 185 percent in 2015 and a currency collapse, police salaries have fallen far behind rising prices creating more incentives for corruption.

President Nicolas Maduro promoted Reverol this month, days after the United States accused the former anti-drugs tsar of taking bribes from cocaine traffickers.

"We are going to bring disarmament and peace," Reverol told news hounds, while coppers drilled and sawed at rusty shotguns, home made pistols and some newer weapons.

Other guns were crushed in truck-mounted presses. Some members of the public watched, although more danced to a nearby sound system playing salsa music.

Venezuela has also bought laser technology to mark ammunition, Reverol said, in an attempt to keep a registry of the bullets given out to the South American nation's many state and municipal police forces.

Experts say that much of the ammunition used in crimes in Venezuela is made at the country's government munitions factory and sold on by corrupt police.

Africa North
Top Tunisian Terrorist Taken by Libyan militia group
Tripoli, 17 August 2016:

Zintani forces allied to the Libyan National Army led by General Khalifa Hafter are reported to have captured a top Tunisian member of the so-called Islamic State (IS).

Moez Ben Abdulgader Ben Ahmed Al-Fezzani was apparently arrested with more than 20 other IS supporters some days ago between the west Libyan towns of Rigdaleen and Al-Jmail. having fled Sirte and trying to get to Tunisia.

The news was only released yesterday.

Fezzani, also known as Abu Nassim, was designated Tunisia’s most wanted terrorist in February. In a communiqué at the time, it called on anyone with information about him to report it to the Tunisian police.

He is since said to have been responsible for the IS attempt in March to take over the southern Tunisian town of Ben Guerdane in which 58 people died – 45 militants and 13 members of the security forces.

From Tunis and born in 1969, Fezzani is said to have first joined Tunisia’s Ansar Al-Sharia. He then went to Libya where he was put in charge of the IS reception centre in Sabratha. Following its bombing last February by the US, he headed first to Benghazi then to Sirte where he remained until a few days ago.

According to the Zintanis, he and his colleagues were trying to head back to Tunisia. However his identity was discovered only after his arrest by a patrol. He is being sent to Marj for further investigations.

So far there has been no Tunisian comment on the claimed capture.

Jihadist repel Syrian Army attack on Ramousah Base
[ALMASDARNEWS] After securing most of the 1070 Hamdaniyah Project, the Syrian Army managed to cut the supply line between Hikma school and the Ramousah Technical College allowing for a breach in the first jihadist defense lines.

Units from the Syrian Army’s Republican Guard capitalized on the breached and attacked the Technical College that is in the northernmost area of the Ramousah Artillery Base advancing by noon to seize control of most of the college whilst killing and injuring dozens.

Unable to fortify positions in the aforementioned college, the Syrian Army was forced to retreat when the jihadists launched a counterattack.

The front has now calmed after firefights dispersed. It is likely that this attack was primarily a probing attack aimed at destroying the jihadists’ first line of defense in preparation for upcoming major assaults.

Air Strikes Target al Qaeda in Yemen, Troops Capture Aden District
[Asharq al-Aswat] A drone strike on Wednesday killed at least four suspected al Qaeda bandidos murderous Moslems in southern Yemen, as unidentified warplanes shelled settlements held by the jihadist group further east, witnesses and local residents said.

The four suspected bandidos murderous Moslems were killed when what was thought to be a U.S. drone fired on a checkpoint at the entrance of the city of Azan in southern Yemen.

It was not immediately possible to confirm the accounts by the residents, who said the bandidos murderous Moslems had seized the city two months ago. The United States has acknowledged using drones but declines to comment on specific attacks.

The heightened air strikes came as forces loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi conducted a security operation against bandidos murderous Moslems in al-Mansoura district of Aden, attempting to bring to an end a state of chaos that had wrapped up the southern port city where the Yemeni government is temporarily based.

scenic provincial capital in southeastern Yemen.

Residents said unidentified warplanes launched three strikes on a former Yemeni army camp east of Mukalla controlled by al Qaeda late on Wednesday night.

They said the air strikes ignited a fire at the old al-Rayyan air base that could be seen from several miles away. Residents said they believed the attacks have caused casualties, but provided no figures.

The bandidos murderous Moslems captured Mukalla in April last year, a month after a Saudi-led alliance began military operations trying to restore Hadi to power and keep the Houthis from taking over the country.

Last week, U.S. warplanes targeted a training camp run by al Qaeda, killing at least 50 people and wounding more than 30.

A local al Qaeda commander said in an audio recording posted on the Internet on Wednesday that the camp was being used to train tribal volunteers to fight the Houthis.

The authenticity of the recording by the commander, identified as Saad bin Atef al-Awlaki, could not immediately be verified.

In Aden, a security official said Yemeni troops loyal to Hadi, backed by local fighters, deployed in the al-Mansoura district which resulted in the capture of at least 21 suspected bad boys.

Yemeni Prime Minister Khaled Bahah, who is also the vice president, is based in Aden.

ISIS executes 7 in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A well placed security source in Nineveh province informed that ISIS executed seven Mosul residents after they refused to send their children to schools run by the organization.

The source informed, “This morning, ISIS executed seven citizens in the center Mosul city after they refused to send their children to schools run by the organization.”

The source added, “The execution was carried out in one of the ISIS camps.”

“ISIS was using the prisons to torture and execute the innocent civilians. 13 decomposed bodies were found inside the prisons,” he added.

Jumaili further added, “The security forces are conducting search operations and securing the residential areas where the prisons were found. The prisons contained quarries and secret hideouts that were used by ISIS to hide the abductees for executing in the future.”

ISIS shuts down internet in al-Bab

[ARA News] ALEPPO – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) has shut down the internet network in the city of al-Bab in Syria’s northern Aleppo province, local sources reported on Wednesday.

The group has also broke into civilians’ houses and confiscated all satellite devices.

“They [ISIS militants] stormed the houses in al-Bab and confiscated satellite devices. Also, all internet cafes in the city were shut down on Wednesday,” local media activist Abdulkarim al-Yousef told ARA News over the phone.

“The group has tightened security measures inside the city of al-Bab and at its entrances. Nobody is allowed to leave the area under any circumstances,” al-Yousef said.

Another source in al-Bab, who spoke to ARA News on condition of anonymity, said that there are concerns that ISIS may use civilians as human shields in the case that western-backed SDF forces make any move to attack ISIS positions in al-Bab.

This comes as a group of Syrian armed rebels announced the formation of the al-Bab Military Council in preparation to fight ISIS in al-Bab city and its countryside.

The operation is expected to be backed by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that have recently expelled ISIS from the nearby city of Manbij and cut off the group’s supply lines between Aleppo and Raqqa–the ISIS de facto capital in Syria.

Life under ISIS: Testimonies from recently liberated city

[ARA News] MANBIJ – The Syrian border city of Manbij, which has been liberated recently by the SDF, has witnessed tragic daily happenings and heavy atrocities against civilians at the hand of ISIS militants for years.

Speaking to ARA News, people of the city have expressed their joy after the liberation, especially after suffering brutal practices by ISIS and its extremist Islamic rules for over three years.

According to local sources, militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) used to “suppress the people of Manbij and treat them inhumanly”.

Eyewitnesses said that the group had deprived the civilians from their basic rights under the pretext that they refused to join jihad. “This is how ISIS used to force people into its alleged jihad,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

“We have suffered the most under the group’s rule here. We’ve seen the most horrible suppression ever,” said . On the day of Manbij liberation we all felt reborn,” said Khalaf Yousef, a citizen from Manbij.

“Those extremists used to sexually harass the women, while they were trying to show off the behavior of good Muslims on the streets. They were trying to hide their real ugly face from the public, but their brutality was known to everyone in the city,” Yoousef told ARA News.

“ISIS had established a detention centre for women. Only God knows what they’ve been doing inside there. Our suffering under ISIS was indescribable,” he said.

The Islamic State had imposed its control over Manbij nearly three years ago. Most of the city’s residents evacuated their houses at that time, looking for a safe haven away fro ISIS. However, many others haven’t had the opportunity to escape, so they’ve been obliged to follow ISIS’s rules in order to survive.

Muhammad al-Abdullah, a citizen from Manbij who has witnessed ISIS atrocities repeatedly, told ARA News: “ISIS terrorists were showing us how they beheaded and slaughtered people. We were always terrified, especially in the night, I wasn’t able to sleep for what I’ve seen. Sometimes ISIS militants would even call on people to participate in executions.”

“We had no more education under ISIS, all schools were closed. Everyday there were public executions and crucifixions. They were stopping us on the street to question the way we dressed,,” he said.

Yassir Hamadi, another citizen from Manbij, said: “We were suffering shortage of bread, they [ISIS] were preventing people from getting food and basic supplies. Many people were displaced. ISIS made us suffer.”

Speaking to ARA News, rights activist and citizen of Manbij Marea al-Ahmed said: “If you’re ill they would never let you visit a hospital or a doctor, claiming those working there are apostates.”

“We have been stranded inside Manbij. ISIS terrorists were obliging the people to eat from the garbage. They’ve used us as human shields. They used to gather the people around them in order to avoid airstrikes. And when you return home you find out that your house is mined. They’ve even placed explosives inside the mosques. Yesterday some people tried to clean the mosque of Manbij but the terrorists had placed explosives inside Quran books. Is this Islam?”

“Also, under ISIS bread was very expensive and barely available in Manbij. And anyone caught by ISIS while smoking would be mercilessly punished and forced to follow a Sharia course. Moreover, any woman caught violating the Sharia dress code would be brutally punished. We’ve documented a lot of such cases,” al-Ahmed said.

Hostage due for beheading escapes
[GULFTODAY.AE] A 28-year-old Indonesian sailor who was reportedly due for beheading on the island province of Sulu in restive Mindanao escaped the Al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
Lions of Islam who held him hostage since his abduction and six other companions in June, the military reported on Wednesday.

Major Filemon Tan, the front man of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, identified the escapee as Mohammad Safyan, one of seven Indonesian crewmen aboard a tugboat who were kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf off the Sulu Sea on June 23.

Tan said Safyan was rescued by residents when he was caught in a fishnet off the coastal village of the town of Luuk, Sulu on Wednesday morning.

Tan quoted Safyan was saying he decided to escape after the Lions of Islam reportedly informed him he was due for beheading, apparently for their alleged failure to pay their ransom demand.

Tan added Safyan told military authorities he made a successful but wild dash for freedom in a mangrove swamp where he and the other hostages spent the night.

The military said Safyan was one of seven Indonesian crewmen including their skipper aboard an Indonesian tugboat loaded with coal who were kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf off the Sulu Sea on June 23.

At the same time, Tan announced that elite members of the Army Special Forces overrun and seized two camps maintained by the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu’s neighbouring island province of Basilan
...Basilan is a rugged, jungle-covered island in the southern Philippines. It is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, bandidos, and maybe even orcs. Most people with any sense travel with armed escorts...
One of the camps seized is located in a mountain village in the town of Tipo-Tipo, Basilan which is well-fortified and equipped with bunkers, tunnels and foxholes, according to Tan.

Britain
Islamic State should be involved in Syrian peace talks, says Owen Smith
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] Owen Smith has suggested Isil fighters should have a seat at the negotiating table if there are talks to end Syria's bloody civil war.
Going for the dumber than a box of rocks vote?
The Labour leadership contender said representatives of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) would eventually need to be involved in talks to find a resolution to the conflict.
Except that to ISIS the only acceptable resolution is the one where they rule it all: Syria, Iraq, the entire Middle East, in time the entire world. There really is no point in talking to such people.
His comments came during a heated debate with the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Appearing on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show, Mr Smith said "all of the actors" involved in the Syrian crisis should be negotiated with at "some point".

In contrast, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said that there was no place for the terrorist group at the negotiating table.
Like a stopped clock, the little antisemite got something right.
Asked whether he believed Isil should be involved in the negotiations, Mr Smith said: "Ultimately all solutions to these sorts of international crises do come about through dialogue so eventually, if we are to try and solve this, all of the actors do need to be involved.

"But at the moment Isil are clearly not interested in negotiating."

He added: "At some point, for us to resolve this, we will need to get people round the table."
Like we negotiated a settlement with Hitler?
Asked the same question, Mr Corbyn said: "They are not going to be round the table. No."

Last month, Isil grabbed credit for two attacks in Germany - an axe attack by a 17-year-old Afghan refugee and a suicide kaboom by a Syrian refugee that injured about 20 people.

Isil also opened a new front in its war with the West by murdering a French priest in July, the first such attack on a Christian church in Europe.

Reports from Syria reveal Isil carry out regular beheadings and people are nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
for crimes as minor as smoking, listening to music or not wearing the burka.

Responding to the comments, Johnny Mercer, a Tory member of the Defence select committee, said: "Owen Smith's suggestion that we should get Isil 'round the table' demonstrates his unfitness for leadership.

"Everyone knows negotiation is far more desirable than violence in any conflict, but to suggest it in this case, is to entirely misunderstand and fail to grasp the challenge posed by ISIS.

"His desperate attempts to out-Corbyn Jeremy Corbyn have led him to the view that barbaric murderers who behead journalists and lynch homosexuals are now the sort of people that we should negotiate with.

"It shows that whoever wins this increasingly bizarre leadership election, I'm afraid Labour just cannot be trusted with keeping us safe."

ISIS hammers Syrian troops' positions in Deir ez-Zor
[ARA News] DERIK – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) bombed Wednesday regime-held districts in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, causing casualties among civilians, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

ISIS militants targeted the regime-held districts of al-Joura, Hawiqa and Sinaa with dozens of mortar shells.

At least 12 civilians were injured in the attack.

“Militants of the Islamic State started a new offensive on areas held by the Syrian regime in Deir ez-Zor. Since Wednesday afternoon the ISIS shelling on Hawiqa, al-Joura and Sinaa has not stopped,” local media activist Samir al-Khalaf told ARA News.

The source reported that rescue teams continued their search for victims under the rubble.

“So far 12 civilians were injured, some of them are in critical conditions, while the local rescue teams continued their search for survivors under the ruins of the destroyed buildings. The number of casualties may rise in the coming hours,” a doctor in the Deir ez-Zor national hospital told ARA News.

ISIS has imposed a siege on regime-held areas of Deir ez-Zor and has been preventing humanitarian aid from entering those areas for months.

Feminist Magazine: Bill Clinton Isn’t Necessarily A Bad Guy If He Raped Juanita Broaddrick
Such lovely people.
[DAILYCALLER] An online feminist magazine recently featured an article that excused former President Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
’s alleged rape of Juanita Broaddrick.

A Wonkette article titled "Let’s Talk About Juanita Broaddrick" claimed that even if Clinton had raped Broaddrick in 1978 -- he was running for Arkansas governor at the time -- it does not necessarily mean he’s "an evil man."

"To sum up, I think Bill Clinton could very well have raped Juanita Broaddrick; that it doesn’t make him an evil man, or irredeemable (I’m Catholic; we’re all forgiven, if we’re sorry, and Broaddrick says Bill Clinton personally called her up to apologize). It doesn’t even necessarily make him a bad feminist -- you know, later, once he stops doing that," the article claimed.

The author also wrote that while she could see Clinton raping Broaddrick back then and viewing it as "alpha sex," she could also see a lot of other men of the time doing the same thing.

"I can absolutely see Bill Clinton doing this (then, not now) and not even thinking of it as rape, but thinking of it as dominant, alpha sex. I can see a LOT of men doing that during that time period, before we started telling them in the ’80s, "hey, that is rape, do not do that," the article stated.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea’s deputy ambassador to Britain defects from London
[WASHINGTONPOST] The second in command of North Korea’s embassy in London defected to South Korea with his family, officials in Seoul said Wednesday, describing him as "sick and tired" of Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
’s regime.

The defection, the latest in a string of high-profile escapes, constitutes an embarrassing blow to North Korea’s authoritarian leadership and potentially an intelligence windfall for South Korea and its allies, including the United States.

Thae Yong Ho, a cosmopolitan career diplomat, was a key official at the embassy, in a residential area of west London, and is thought to have escorted Kim Jong Chul, the North Korean leader’s older brother, during his trip to Britannia last year to attend an Eric Clapton concert.

"He is absolutely central to the operation of that embassy," said Adam Cathcart, a North Korea expert at Leeds University who met Thae several times. "He’d been there longer than the ambassador, and all the North Korea hands in London assumed that he was a really key person there."

Thae in some ways had been the public face of the embassy, giving talks at bookshops and at British Communist Party meetings in which he extolled the virtues of the North Korean system, a sign of the latitude he had within the regime, Cathcart said.

Pak's Use of Terror Major Roadblock in Ties: Foreign Secretary
[OUTLOOKINDIA] India's efforts to have "closer and broader" cooperation in South Asia often faced roadblocks due to "unique challenge" from Pakistain which tends to use terrorism as an instrument of policy of diplomacy, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar said tonight.

In strong criticism of Pakistain, he said almost all major iniatiatives of India in SAARC -- be it enhancing connectivity or having deeper engagement in some other key areas -- did not fructify due to hurdles posed by Islamabad, adding terrorism is central to the problem.

The Foreign Secretary described Pakistain as a country which not only has a "different view of the region but also has an atttitude towards use of terrorism as a instrument of policy of diplomacy which makes it a difficult partner for all of us."

The Foreign Secretary was interacting with journalists at Foreign Correspondents' Club here during which he touched upon a wide range of issues including challenges on foreign policy front and India's engagement with major powers like US, Russia and China.

Talking about government's neighbourhood first policy, he said though India has been sincere in ensuring development of the region, its politics often come into play.

"While we all agree that we should move forward, it does not always go smoothly as domestic politics of our neighbours pose challenges. We have learnt to be patient and the mix of diplomacy and patience did see through difficult situations," said Jaishankar.

Baltimore police lieutenant suspended after calling Black Lives Matter protesters ‘thugs’
[WASHINGTONTIMES] A Baltimore Police lieutenant and union leader was suspended Monday after sending an email referring to Black Lives Matter protesters as "thugs" to the entire police force, according to local news reports.

The email followed demonstrations outside the Hyatt Regency Baltimore hosting the four-day Maryland Fraternal Order of Police conference.

"By now you have seen that the THUGS from Black Lives Matter and other similar groups have attempted to disrupt the State FOP Convention being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel," Lt. Victor Gearhart, first vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 in Baltimore, wrote in the email obtained by WJZ, a local CBS News affiliate.

"Well today as check-in day with activities spread over the next 3 days so expect more bad behavior from the Thugs of Baltimore. On the bright side maybe they will stop killing each other while they are protesting us," he wrote.

T.J. Smith, a Baltimore Police front man, said Police Commissioner Kevin Davis was outraged by Lt. Gearhart’s comments, which are now the subject of an internal investigation, The Baltimore Sun reported.

"This frustrated a number of people," the front man told WJZ. "Calls have been coming in from officers about their outrage over this email."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hezbollah's Strategy in Syria Won't Help Against Israel
[WEEKLYSTANDARD] Over the last three years of the Syrian Civil War, Hezbollah has increasingly operated as a regular army rather than in its traditional, decades-long role as a guerrilla force. The Shiite group has operated Syrian tanks and artillery, jeeps with recoilless rifles, and is even rumored to have acquired its own 75-tank armored brigade. As a result, some pundits have begun suggesting that Hezbollah has transformed into "an army in every respect," as Haaretz columnist Amos Harel has written. Others, like Foreign Policy's Nour Samaha, have suggested that "Israel may have reason to be concerned," that Hezbollah will "transfer the skills learned in Syria to any future confrontation with Israel," and fight the IDF as a conventional army.

That's unlikely. As long as the Jewish state remains the vastly superior conventional force, Hezbollah will continue to fight it according to its old successful guerilla methods. To confront the Israelis army-to-army would all but ensure Hezbollah's defeat.

Hezbollah participated in the Syrian Civil War almost from its outset in 2011, but by 2013 had transformed from its traditional insurgency tactics to acting as a counterinsurgency force against Syrian rebels. Since then, it has been conducting open warfare along established frontlines to conquer and control territory and knock out its foes, participating in combined-arms maneuvers with Iranian, Syrian, and Russian forces. Its fighters have even acted as battlefield commanders of Syrian troops.

Still, despite its growing strength and battlefield experience, Hezbollah is far from closing the gap in conventional strength with Israel. The Israel Defense Forces has made clear it intends to exploit that asymmetry "in the most muscular way possible" to score the decisive victory against the group that has eluded them in the past. The IDF's new plan, which it would follow in a war with Hezbollah, is called the Gideon Doctrine (outlined in a shorter, unclassified version titled "IDF Strategy"), which calls for a rapid deployment of ground-forces, simultaneous with aerial, naval, artillery, and cyber attacks. Israel's new strategy is to quickly penetrate Hezbollah's territory to damage its political and military infrastructure, while at the same time raining overwhelming fire on its targets.

Turkey: Crucial Discussions on Constitutional Amendments in Absence of Kurds
[Asharq al-Aswat] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s Parliament committee gathered for the first time Friday, excluding pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), to discuss changes to the country’s constitution and carried out the discussions on Tuesday.

In a move showing unity between the parties, the ruling Justice and Development Party or AK Party, the main opposition Republican People’s Party or CHP and the Nationalist Movement Party or MHP‐ clearly signaled that they would preserve the common ground that emerged in the wake of the July 15 defeated coup.

Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus commented on the exclusion of the HDP on Sunday.

"As a party which has received votes from 5 million people, the HDP is a legitimate political party. This is what we have been insistently saying since June 7," Kurtulmus said.

In the June 7, 2015, parliamentary elections, the HDP emerged as a voice of hope for marginalized Kurds as well as left-wing voters.

After the June 7 results failed to produce a single-party government and coalition talks failed, snap elections were held on Nov. 1, 2015, bringing the AKP to power as a single-party government yet again.

"The HDP needs to remain in the legitimate realm of politics," Kurtulmus said, adding that the HDP should particularly "exclude the PKK [the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party] by saying ’the PKK is a terror organization.’"

"The HDP should meet the expectations of the people who voted for it," said the deputy prime minister.

In a common matter, the Nationalist Movement Party sent four members, including ex-Deputy Meral Aksener, a vocal challenger for the party leadership, to the party’s disciplinary committee for discharge proceedings.

The members are accused of breaching sections of the party constitution, which require cooperation, communication, and mutual respect among the party members.

Afghanistan
In Afghanistan, the Taliban Advance
[STRATFOR] The Afghan government's battlefield victories in certain parts of the country have been overshadowed by the Taliban's much larger gains elsewhere. Of particular concern to the U.S. and Afghan governments is Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, a strategic southern region that is home to a sizable Pashtun population and a considerable amount of opium. Despite heavy U.S. Arclight airstrikes in the area, the Taliban -- who already control 80 percent of the region -- have steadily encroached on the quiet provincial capital of Lashkar Gah. The gunnies have even reportedly deployed a new commando force equipped with night vision optics and staffed with sharpshooters to facilitate their advance on Helmand.

Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout Montefiore's foot was still stuck and the hound had completely soaked his uniform with slobber...
the Taliban have also launched offensives across the country to stretch Afghan cops even thinner, ratcheting up the pressure on Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
. In doing so, the Taliban are taking advantage of an opening created by the recent changes in U.S. and Afghan strategy: checkpoints. To free up the forces needed for their proactive campaign, Afghan troops have had to weaken and even dismantle many of their checkpoints. This has given Taliban fighters in numerous areas an opportunity to converge on and sever key roads, isolating and coercing the villages caught in the middle into joining them without having to launch costly direct assaults. The Taliban have successfully applied this tactic to several provinces, including Uruzgan and Ghazni.

Even in the east, where the Taliban and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
have long feuded with each other, the two have reached a temporary cease-fire to better focus their efforts on attacking the government. The short-term cessation in hostilities has enabled the Taliban to concentrate on pushing back Afghan troops in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province, while the Islamic State has expanded its reach in neighboring Kunar. Perhaps more concerning, though, are the Taliban's attempts to rebuild their presence in the north. The threat the group poses to Afghanistan's crucial ring road, which circles the country, is rising, particularly in Baghlan province, where the Taliban are trying to cut off a portion of the road to restrict Kabul's access to the northern provinces.

Trump campaign shakeup
[CNN] Donald Trump's campaign is undergoing a major staff shake-up with less than three months to Election Day, adding two officials to top posts overseeing his struggling campaign and signaling a shift toward campaigning as a scorched earth outsider in order to win.

Trump has named Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News and a former investment banker, to the post of chief executive and promoted Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser and pollster to his campaign, to the position of campaign manager, Conway confirmed to CNN early Wednesday morning.

The addition of Bannon -- known for his brass-knuckled demeanor and his website's sharp tone -- came hours after reports surfaced that Roger Ailes, the recently ousted head of Fox News, will begin to advise Trump as he prepares for the presidential debates. The influence of both men lays the groundwork for unleashing Trump this fall from the more traditional presidential candidate framework, which Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort's leadership was brought on to create.

Serial arsonist behind California wildfires caught as Gore blames ‘global warming’
[CLIMATEDEPOT] The Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, wildfires still raging out of control are the work of a serial arsonist and not the result of global warming. Yesterday, officials jugged
You have the right to remain silent...
the dangerous firebug accused of setting 17 of California’s wildfires as firefighters battle the still-raging firestorms across the state. Previously, global warming alarmists said the wildfires were a result of the long-running California drought that has left a lot of dry tinder on the ground. Numerous studies have shown the California drought is entirely natural and part of a regular cyclic pattern for the state.

The man accused of setting the California wildfires is Damian Anthony Pashilk, who has been arraigned on 17 counts of serial arson. Unfortunately, the fires are still raging and the worst is yet to come. Fireseason for much of California is September through October when ground kindling is at its driest.

The wildfire that began as a small brush fire has also forced California into a state of emergency. As of today, the wildfire in San Bernardino, dubbed the Blue Cut fire, has burned about 18,000 acres and drove 82,000 people from their homes. It was so hot it melted bikes and destroyed thousands of homes.

With the ongoing drought, summer heat, and strong winds, there was even a firenado spotted. Another fire, called the Clayton Fire, has wiped out roughly 4,000 acres and 175 homes since Saturday. While many residents are happy that Pashilkis behind bars, he has left a trail of misery in his wake. He has started at least 17 fires across the state, with many of them still burning.

Prior to his capture, some people were speculating that the wildfires were part of a larger global warming picture. Some said that the fire season had started earlier this year and blamed it on the drought, high winds, and higher temperatures.

Iran says Russian bombers only refuel at Hamadan base
Russian bombers only refuel at the Nojeh airbase in Iran’s western Hamadan city, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Commission, has said.

He further said Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has issued permission for the Russian aircraft conducting sorties against terrorists in Syria to refuel in the base, Tasnim news agency reported Aug. 17.

Boroujerdi added that the refueling of Russian planes is done within the quadripartite cooperation between Iran, Russia, Syria and Iraq.
That explains the overflights of Iraq...
“Neither Hamadan airbase has become a Russian base, nor any Russian fighter has been deployed there, so this isn’t against the Islamic Republic’s constitution,” the senior MP said.
The Rooshins don't need to deploy fighters. They needed to deploy bombers and that's just what they did...
“This cooperation is carried out in line with Iran’s goals in fighting terrorism,” he added.

On Aug. 16, Russia said its Tu-22M3 and Su-34 bombers are deployed in Iran and from there the aircraft are hitting the “Islamic State” (IS) terrorist group in Syria. Some Iranian politicians’ raised concerns on the issue, saying the move is against the Islamic Republic’s constitution.

During a parliament session held Aug 17, Iranian MP Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh said the deployment of Russian military forces in the Nojeh airbase is against the Article 176 of the Islamic Republic’s constitution. In response to him, Iranian parliament’s speaker Ali Larijani said no military base was given to Russia.

“No base in Iran has been given to Russian military,” Larijani said. “Tehran cooperates with Moscow on regional issues, including Syria, but no base has been given to them.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Boroujerdi rejected some Israeli media reports about deployment of Russia’s S-400 air defense system in the Nojeh airbase.

“Nothing by Russia has been deployed on the Islamic Republic’s soil,” he underlined.

Retaliatory Russian and Syrian Air Raids on Neighbourhoods in Aleppo Kill 19 Civilians
[Asharq al-Aswat] The Syrian regime and its allies are trying to compensate for their failure to achieve field progress on western and southern fronts in Aleppo by intensifying Russian and Syrian air raids on opposition controlled areas. Eastern neighbourhoods in the city were bombed as a result and 19 civilians, including three children were killed.

Twelve members of opposition factions were also killed as a result of raids carried out by Russian planes on a convoy on the Ramouseh Road in the south west of the city. Opposition factions have been foiling several attacks carried out on crucial points on the southern front, and are threatening to liberate other areas in Aleppo that are controlled by the regime.

The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP that "At least 19 non-combatants were killed, including three children, and dozens were maimed by raids. We do not know whether the aircraft was Syrian or Russian." The agency’s correspondent in the eastern neighbourhoods said that "the raids did not subside on Monday and Tuesday nights and during the hours of the morning".

As long as civilians support and protect opposition factions, they will be directly targeted by air strikes according to what the deputy leader of the Fastaqim Kama Umirt group Mulhim Ukaidi confirmed. He believes that the regime and its allies "Are quick to take Dire Revenge on civilians with each loss that they incur in any area, and this is what happened after they lost control of the Ramouseh area, the Artillery College complex, the Hotel School and an armament college".

Court sends suspected LeT operative to JC till Sep 15
[PTINEWS] A special court today sent Bahadur Ali alias 'Saifullah', a Pak national allegedly working for terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba

LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
, to judicial custody till September 15, after the NIA said it did not require his further custodial interrogation.

According to court sources, Ali was produced before District Judge Amar Nath on expiry of his NIA remand, and during in-camera proceedings, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) moved an application seeking one month JC for the accused.

In a new twist to the ongoing turmoil in Kashmire, NIA had cited Ali's confessional video to claim that the ongoing unrest in the Valley was being orchestrated by Pakistain-based LeT which had played a major role in fuelling the unrest, triggered by the encounter killing of a turban leader.

The agency has claimed that since summer this year, the banned outfit, with the "help of Pak forces deployed on the border", pushed heavily armed holy warriors into India with the direction to mix with local people, create disturbance and attack police and security forces.

US paid Iran $1.3 billion in cash to settle old dispute
[NYPOST] The B.O. regime’s $400 million payoff to Iran was followed by a second transfer of $1.3 billion, it was reported Tuesday.

President B.O. took considerable flak for the first payment, which coincided with the release in January of four Americans being held by Tehran.

Critics charged that the move smacked of ransom, which the US has pledged never to pay.

The $400 million was the first installment of a $1.7 billion settlement with Iran to resolve a dispute over a failed arms deal signed before the 1979 fall of the shah.

But there was no word about what happened to the rest of the debt -- $1.3 billion.

On Tuesday, The Weekly Standard reported that the second payment was also quietly delivered.

Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs Julia Frifield sent a letter to Congress on March 17, 2016, stating, "Iran received the balance of $400 million in the Trust Fund as well as roughly $1.3 billion representing a compromise on the interest," according to the magazine.

This payment was likely made in cash, since the US has no banking relationship with Tehran.

Wooden pallets stacked with euros, Swiss francs and other currencies were flown into Iran in an unmarked cargo plane to cover the first $400 million.

"The reason that we had to give them cash is precisely because we are so strict in maintaining sanctions -- and we don’t have a banking relationship with Iran -- that we couldn’t send them a check," Obama said in an Aug. 4 presser.

Boston Globe: Suspend donations to Clinton Foundation
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The Clinton Foundation needs to stop accepting donations for the remainder of the 2016 election, and it should be shut down altogether if Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another William Jennings Bryan ...
wins in November, the Boston Globe's editorial board wrote Tuesday.

The foundation is a "clear liability" for Clinton as she tries again to win the White House, it wrote.
Really? I hadn't noticed. Relatively few voters care, and the ones that do aren't voting for Hilarity anyway. And most of the moneyed folk who gave money to the Foundation have a fair understanding that one way or another they're going to get what they've been wanting...
Though the Clinton-founded organization has "supported relief in Haiti,
...ask the Haitians about that...
global health, and other good causes," it has also accepted a immense amount of cash from overseas, "including from foreign governments with troubling human rights records."
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.

"The inherent conflict of interest was obvious when Hillary Clinton became secretary of state in 2009," the Globe's board wrote.
It was obvious while she was Senator...
"She promised to maintain a separation between her official work and the foundation, but recently released emails written by staffers during her State Department tenure make clear that the supposed partition was far from impregnable."

According to the Shin Bet, Hindi was instructed to recruit a group of activists to carry out attacks against Israeli targets, including shooting at an IDF patrol in the Qalqilyah area.

Iran rejects arrest of British, French diplomats
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has dismissed the reports about the arrest of two European diplomats.

No foreign diplomat was arrested in the country’s west, an informed source in Iran’s Foreign Ministry said, ISNA news agency reported Aug. 17. The two diplomats’ visit to one of the country’s western provinces was already coordinated, the source said.

“The travel and meetings were made with a prior notice,” the source added.

The diplomats’ vehicle was stopped by police only for checking the documents and they continued to their trip after being identified, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry source.

Meanwhile, Mehr news agency quoted an IRGC intelligence official in Kurdistan Province as saying the diplomats were suspiciously filming military sites and when ordered to stop, they fled. A Toyota Pajero with a diplomatic license plate was finally forced to stop near Irankhah village, close to Saqqez city, said the official.

The incident occurred on Aug 13, the IRGC official said, adding the vehicle’s passengers were Sébastien Surun, French political attaché, and Charlotte Lopez, second secretary of the British Embassy in Tehran.

The security official further said the two diplomats were driving illegally through some regions of Kurdistan Province without having any permission or prior coordination. He also said the IRGC intelligence forces sized the diplomats’ camera.

Afghanistan
20 ANA soldiers die in 24 hours
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has been reporting a steeper rise in Afghan National Army (ANA) forces casualties amid deteriorating security situation across the country.

According to a statement by MoD, at least 20 soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces lost their lives while conducting counter-terrorism operations in the past 24 hours.

“The Afghan National Army (ANA) forces are prepared for all kinds of devotion and with all force to maintain security and comfort for the people of Afghanistan,” a statement by MoD said, adding that 20 Afghan soldiers were martyred during counter-terrorism operations against the internal and foreign terrorists.

The statement further added that the soldiers were martyred during the operations conducted in Badghis, Helmand, Nuristan, Laghman, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Kunduz, Paktia, and Maidan Wardak provinces.

The considerable rise in Afghan army casualties comes as the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are busy conducting their annual operation to suppress the insurgency activities of the militant groups.

The annual operation by ANDS was launched in response to Taliban’s spring offensive which the group launched under the name of ‘Omari Operations’ earlier in April this year.

According to the earlier estimates by security officials, the Afghan army deaths stood at 4 service members daily on average which is mainly caused due to improvised explosive device (IED) attacks.

Fierce clashes erupt in Al-Hasakah as Kurdish police attack government forces
[ALMASDARNEWS] Intense festivities broke-out in the lovely provincial capital of the Al-Hasakah Governorate tonight after Kurdish police (Asayish) attacked the National Defense Forces’ (NDF) positions near the city-center.

No reason was given for the surprise Asayish attack on the NDF; however, the former decided to arrest a large number of pro-government fighters and civilians after storming their positions.

Following these arrests by the Asayish, another series of festivities broke-out on Marsho Street between the latter and the NDF/Hajaneh, resulting in a violent exchange with small arms and RPG rounds.

In response to the counter-attack by the NDF/Hajaneh at Marsho Street, the Asayish started to indiscriminately target residential areas; this prompted the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to intervene by shelling the Kurdish police from the Kawakeb Base.

As of now, the SAA and People’s Protection Units (YPG) have been deployed to the city in order to cease the violence; however, festivities still persist near the city-center.

The Syrian Arab Army has issued another warning to the Asayish about shelling residential neighborhoods; if they continue to do so, they will send their tanks into Hasakah City.

ISIS shadow official busted in Jawzjan
The shadow governor of the loyalists of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group has been arrested in northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan.

According to the local government officials, Baz Mohammad, the ISIS shadow governor of the terror group designated for Jawzjan province, was arrested as he was attempting to expand the activities of the terror group in northern provinces.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Mohammad Reza Ghafoori confirmed that Baz Mohammad had recently traveled to Jawzjan and was seeking to recruit fighters from the province.

This is not the first time reports have emerged from the North of the country regarding the attempts by the terror group to expand foothold in the northern provinces.

The Afghan forces confronted the loyalits of the terror group for the first time in northern Balkh province.

The acting provincial governor Ata Mohammad who was leading clearance operations in Balkh province earlier in March said the loyalists of the terror group were confronted during the operations in Koshindeh and Zareh districts.

Noor said the militants were looking to start their operations from the mountainous terrai of Tanj and move towards the provincial capital city, Mazar-e-Sharif and their strategy was to move further towards Sholgara and then into Samangan and Sar-e-Pul provinces.

Attempt made on Libya militia leader
Tripoli, 16 August 2016:

The Tripoli Revolutionaries’ Brigade has said that its commander Haitham Tajouri was targeted unsuccessfully by assassins over the weekend. The attack on a TRB post at Mitiga airport, is said to have been mounted by members of the Al-Buni brigade, whose leader is known to be close to intelligence chief Mohamed Muftah Nuh.

It is unclear if the alleged attempt to kill Tajouri was the trigger for his seizure of intelligence offices in Tripoli, or a consequence of that act.

In a statement today the TRB said that the attack happened on Sunday, the day that Tajouri sent his men to occupy the intelligence HQ in Fornaj, as well as four other sites in the city, including the office at Mitiga airport. However the Libya Herald understands that the Al-Buni brigade mounted their assault on Saturday.

The TRB statement went on confirm its respect for the independence of the intelligence network but said that it would not withdraw from the intelligence buildings until Nuh had been replaced. It accused him of bribery to advance his personal ambitions and that this had disrupted the proper function of the intelligence organisation.

It also claimed that an intelligence officer, whom it named as Joudet Al-Khadar had been using financial inducements to get colleagues to spy for “foreign countries”. No further details were given.

It said that the intelligence organisation should by run by professionals who kept themselves above politics.

“We are ready to hand over all the administration buildings once the Presidency Council has assigned a new intelligence head in accordance with the Libyan Political Agreement”.

This is not the first reported attempt on Tajouri’s life. A year ago he was supposedly shot. In 2013 he was kidnapped on the capital’s Airport Road by a Zintani militia who held him overnight and then freed him saying his seizure had been “ a misunderstanding”.

Oil companies paid off Gov. Brown for favorable regulations.
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Public interest group Consumer Watchdog today reported that twenty-six energy companies including the state’s three major investor-owned utilities, Occidental, Chevron, and NRG—all with business before the state—donated $9.8 million to Jerry Brown’s campaigns, causes, and initiatives, and to the California Democratic Party since he ran for Governor. Donations were often made within days or weeks of winning favors. The three major investor-owned utilities alone contributed nearly $6 million.

An exhaustive review of campaign records, publicly-released emails and other documents at PUCPapers.org, court filings, and media reports, shows that Brown personally intervened in regulatory decisions favoring the energy industry, and points to Brown and his operatives having used the Democratic Party as a political slush fund to receive contributions from unpopular energy companies in amounts greater than permitted to his candidate committee. Between 2011 and 2014, the energy companies tracked by Brown’s Dirty Hands donated $4.4 million to the Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party gave $4.7 million to Brown’s re-election. Earmarking to the Democratic Party is illegal. Consumer Watchdog is forwarding its report to the Fair Political Practices Commission.

“The timing of energy industry donations around important legislation and key pro-industry amendments, as well as key regulatory decisions in which Brown personally intervened, raises troubling questions about whether quid pro quos are routine for this administration,” said consumer advocate Liza Tucker, author of the report, Brown’s Dirty Hands. “While Brown paints himself as a foe of fossil fuels, his Administration promoted reckless oil drilling, burning dirty natural gas to make electricity, and used old hands from industry and government, placed in key regulatory positions, to protect the fossil fuel-reliant energy industry.”

The people had won! Power to the People!

Well, a couple months later, the zoning was re-approved. Yeah, it had to be away from the high school, have a fancy façade, hire a certain number of youngsters, face saving stuff.

Well, The People were shocked, betrayed. What are they famously called....useful idiots? Any rate, it begs the question - what sort of donations did the councils' spouse's hobby collect?

Lions of Islam based in the Al-Bab, ISIS’s largest stronghold in Aleppo, mobilized for a massive attack on Syrian Army positions in the vicinity of the Kuweirus Air Base that lies in Aleppo’s eastern countryside.

Prior to their assaults, they sent several VBIEDs to the villages north of the base with festivities reported inside the government-held village of Nasrallah.

Russian/ Syrian pilots have been working overtime attempting to upset the desperate ISIS offensive that is most likely aimed at setting up a considerable buffer zone around the city ahead of an impending attack by the SDF.

IDF arrests key Hamas elections official and 20 others in the West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Security forces nabbed
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
a top West Bank Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, official overnight Tuesday, drawing accusations from the Gazoo-based terror group that Israel is meddling in the upcoming Paleostinian municipal elections.

Hussein Abu Kweik was arrested at his home in the el-Amari refugee camp near Ramallah, the Shin Bet security agency said in a statement.

Abu Kweik is Hamas’s main West Bank campaigner in the elections, which are slated for October 8. Last week, he was appointed Hamas’s only representative to the PA’s central elections commission, which is overseeing the elections.

He was arrested in a joint operation by the IDF and Shin Bet "for his involvement in security-related activities that presented a threat to security in the area," the Shin Bet said.

Specifically, Abu Kweik is suspected of "incitement," the security service said. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
additional allegations may be brought against the senior Hamas official following his interrogation, it added. In recent days Abu Kweik has boasted that his group is the "spearhead of the resistance" against Israel, Israel Radio reported.

In the same operation, Israeli forces arrested a number of other suspected Hamas members from villages and cities around the West Bank, the IDF said. Two were arrested along with Abu Kweik in el-Amari. In Beitunia, one alleged member of the terrorist group was picked up, along with one in Dayr Samet, southwest of Hebron, and another in Surif, west of Efrat. Three more suspected Hamas members were arrested by IDF troops in Hebron, the army said.

In addition to the alleged members of the terrorist organization, 12 Paleostinians were arrested in the West Bank overnight Tuesday, five of them for throwing rocks and taking part in violent protests, the army said.

During nighttime raids in the Hebron area, Israeli forces also found military equipment, bullets and two handguns -- one in the al-Fawar refugee camp and the second in Halhul -- the army said.

Hamas’s Gazoo leadership decried Abu Kweik’s arrest Wednesday, with front man Sami Abu-Zuhri calling it an Israeli attempt to intervene in the elections.

Hamas has already accused PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s Fatah party of arresting Hamas activists in a bid to influence the results of the elections.

The group is considering boycotting the municipal elections if the Paleostinian Authority does not cease arresting its members, he said.

Since Hamas -- considered a terror group by Israel and most Western governments -- surprisingly agreed to participate in the municipal elections, it has been complaining that its activists in the West Bank are being rounded up by PA security forces.

Fatah has made the same complaint about its representatives being arrested in the Gazoo Strip.

in connection with Thursday’s stabbing attack in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of A-Tur, the Shin Bet security agency announced Wednesday.

The suspect has been identified by police as 19-year-old Ahmad Na’im A’shayer, a resident of A-Tur. He is also suspected of hurling Molotov cocktails and firecrackers at security services on April 15, the Shin Bet said.

French prime minister backs local burqini bans, urges calm
[IsraelTimes] 3 Riviera towns have prohibited the modest Muslim swimwear on their beaches

France’s prime minister is expressing support for local bans of burqini swimsuits, saying the swimwear is based on the “enslavement of women” and therefore not compatible with French values. However, Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Wednesday in the La Provence newspaper that he’s not in favor of a national law against them.

Three French Mediterranean towns have banned the burqini, citing security concerns after a summer marred by extremist attacks. Critics say the bans are discriminatory.

Valls said the swimwear represents a “provocation” and an “archaic vision” that women are “immodest, impure and that they should therefore be totally covered.” The Socialist premier also warned that the far-right is profiting from the burqini tensions.

[Ynet] Ten Muslim women wearing burkinis to the beach have been apprehended by police in the southern French city of Cannes in the three weeks since it imposed a temporary ban on the full body swimsuit, a local official said.

Belgium hunts cousin of Brussels attacks brothers

[IsraelTimes] Belgian authorities are hunting a cousin of the El Bakraoui brothers who blew themselves up in the Brussels airport and metro attacks, a source close to the inquiry says Wednesday. Oussama Atar, who spent years in jail in Iraq before returning to Belgium in 2012, is wanted on suspicion of involvement in the March 22 Islamic State-claimed bombings, the source tells AFP on condition of anonymity, confirming Belgian media reports.

Police arrested Atar’s mother, sister and one of his friends during raids in Brussels on August 11 but released them shortly afterwards, says the source who was not authorized to speak on the record.

Investigators have “very strong” suspicions that Belgian-Moroccan national Atar was linked to the attacks in which his cousins Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui blew themselves up with a third bomber, killing 32 people, the source says. Atar was one of the “most wanted in Belgium and even in Europe,” the source adds.

New Oktoberfest Security Rules: Backpacks & Large Bags Banned, New Fence To Be Built

Update from An Nahar at 10:10 a.m. ET -- background on Oussama Atar:
Atar's brother Yassine was arrested with two other men five days after the March 22nd Brussels attacks and remains in detention.

Two of his other cousins, Moustapha and Jawad Benhattal, were arrested on June 18 on suspicion of planning an attack during a public screening of a Euro 2016 football match between Belgium and Ireland, Belgian media reported.

Atar was arrested in Ramadi, Iraq in February 2005 and sentenced to 10 years in jail for illegally crossing the border from Syria, his lawyer at the time, Vincent Lurquin, told AFP. After spending time in jails, including the notorious Abu Ghraib prison, he was freed and sent back to Belgium in September 2012.

"I don't know what happened to him after that," Lurquin said.

Atar said in an interview in 2011 that he had gone to Syria to study Arabic then went to Iraq to take medicines to people in need. His case had been backed by rights group Amnesty International.

Turkey starts releasing 38,000 jailed for pre-coup crimes to make room for purge arrests
[AlAhram] Turkey on Wednesday began freeing the first of some 38,000 prisoners not linked to the failed coup who are to be released in a move aimed at relieving pressure on prisons overcrowded with putsch suspects. The parole decision came as Turkey presses on with the biggest purge in its modern history after the July 15 bid by rogue elements in the military to oust President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from power.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said the release was "not an amnesty" but the measure could eventually apply to almost half of the Turkish prison population which has swelled to over 200,000 since the attempted coup. It will not apply to convicts guilty of murder, terrorism or state security crimes, or the thousands detained after the putsch.

"The regulation refers to crimes committed before July 1, 2016. The crimes committed after July 1, 2016 are outside its scope," Bozdag said on Twitter. "As a result of this regulation, approximately 38,000 people will be released from closed and open prisons at the first stage."

According to Turkish officials, over 35,000 people have been detained since the coup attempt although almost 11,600 of them have since been released.

The state-run Anadolu Agency said the first convicts began to be released from Istanbul's Silviri prison hours after the announcement.

Bozdag said in an interview with A-Haber television that the parole could in the end apply to 99,000 out of Turkey's current total prison population of 214,000. According to Anadolu, the total capacity of Turkey's prisons is for 187,351 people.

More fired and arrested
In the latest move Wednesday, the authorities fired another 2,692 civil servants mostly from the police, the official gazette announced. Some 75,000 people have already been dismissed from their jobs over alleged links to Gulen.

Turkey has pressed the United States to extradite Gulen to face trial back home, with prosecutors already demanding a symbolically tough punishment of two life sentences and 1,900 years in jail.

US Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Ankara next week, the White House announced, in the highest ranking visit to Turkey by any Western official since the coup.

With concern also surging over the authorities' attitude on press freedom, security forces sealed and raided the premises of the pro-Kurdish daily Ozgur Gundem following a court order to shut it down. A Turkish official said the closure had nothing to do with the state of emergency but was because the court found the paper was acting as a mouthpiece for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Ozgur Gudem said in a statement on its website that two dozen people were detained in the police raid. Meanwhile, one of the paper's board members Asli Erdogan -- a prominent writer -- was detained in a police raid on her home, Turkish media said. However the paper still managed to distribute a four-page edition, with the headline "We will not give in."

Questions Raised Over Sudden Fall Of Baghlan's Dahna-e-Ghori
Video at the link whereby Kabul Karl mansplains things
Reports have emerged that just hours before the Taliban took control of Dahna-e-Ghori, the Baghlan provincial police chief allegedly ordered the head of operations to hand over all responsibilities to an unnamed person and return to Pul-e-Khumri, the provincial capital.

A TOLOnews investigation found that following the orders, government forces allegedly responded quickly and retreated from the district – without a single bullet being fired off.

The fall of Baghlan's Dahna-e-Ghori district meanwhile sparked questions among some top local authorities including the provincial governor, Abdul Sattar Barez, who said he has called for a full investigation into the incident.

However, battles are ongoing and have escalated in areas around Pul-e-Khumri city - following the infiltration by Taliban into the area.

Reports have meanwhile also emerged that security forces are allegedly fighting battles without accurate intelligence on the presence of armed opponents in the area.

Last week, the security forces reportedly shelled a compound in the area but later realized no insurgents were present at the time.

However, officials said about 600 security force members had been deployed to Dahna-e-Ghori before the takeover, but Taliban numbers are estimated to be about 300.

"Besides the opponents and enemy, armed men with black masks are currently present in Dahna-e-Ghori," said Abdul Ghafar Ehsan, the commander of the 2nd Battaltion of 209 Shaheen Army Corps.

TOLOnews found that the Baghlan police chief allegedly ordered Sayed Zaiwar Shah Sadat, the head of operation for Dahna-e-Ghori, to hand over responsibility to someone else and return to Pul-e-Khumri. According to troops in the area they took mostly all military equipment with them when they retreated.

When asked to comment on the incident, the Baghlan police chief said that the Ministry of Interior (MoI) had ordered police chiefs of Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhar and Badakhshan provinces not to share information with the media about current battles.

But, the Baghlan governor did say he has requested a full investigation into the incident.

"Terrorists have gathered here from three or four provinces and they are planning to launch a massive operation on our check points," said Barez, the governor.

However, overall security along the Baghlan-Kunduz highway has also deteriorated and those traveling out of Pul-e-Khumri city have said they are afraid the Taliban may ambush security forces.

Meanwhile, officials in Baghlan-e-Markazi district have said that insurgents have flocked into Baghlan from several neighboring provinces.

Baghlan has strategic importance as it connects the center of the country with northern provinces and some central Asian countries including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Security experts said that the presence of Taliban in Baghlan can damage Afghanistan's relations with these countries as it also threatens the stability of the northern parts of Afghanistan.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russia launches second Syria bombing raid from Iran
[AlAhram] Russia on Wednesday launched warplanes from Iran for the second time to bomb the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Syria, denying the action violated a UN Security Council resolution.

The strikes came after Russia on Tuesday began flying warplanes from an Iranian airbase in a major switch in its bombing campaign in Syria, prompting concern from the United States.

On Wednesday, Russian Sukhoi-34 jets took off from the Hamedan base in western Iran and carried out a group aerial strike against IS group targets in Deir Ezzor province, the defence ministry said in a statement, calling the operation a success.

The strikes with high-explosive fragmentation bombs "destroyed two command centres and large field camps for training Death Eaters in the area of the town of Deir Ezzor, killing more than 150 fighters including foreign mercenaries," the ministry said.

Russia had previously only flown raids out of its bases in Syria and Russia.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov insisted Wednesday that using the Iranian base did not breach a UN Security Council resolution that requires its prior approval for the supply, sale or transfer of warplanes to Iran.

"There are no grounds to suspect Russia of breaching the resolution," Lavrov said at a news conference in Moscow. "In the case we are discussing now, there was neither the sale, nor supply, nor transfer of warplanes to Iran."

Defence consultancy IHS Jane's said Wednesday that Moscow's use of the Mozdok airbase in southern Russia, from where long-range bombers had been flying their Syria raids, may have been disrupted by apparent expansion works.

"Flight operations may have been disrupted by the construction of a second runway" which began some time between May and June, according to satellite imagery, it said in a report.

"The Russians did notify the coalition" under the memorandum of understanding on flight safety over Syria that was agreed to by the two countries, said Army Col. Chris Garver, a spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve.

Garver declined to say how much warning the U.S. had of the Russian overflights. "We knew in time," he said, adding that it was "not a lot of time but it was enough."

Afghanistan
Helmand Battles Ease Slightly After Heavy Clashes
As both sides return to the well
The provincial governor's office in southern Helmand said that battles on the frontlines eased off slightly on Wednesday in a number of districts in the province.

The security forces have meanwhile started clearing the Kandahar-Helmand highway for military forces after insurgents placed many roadside mines along the route, said officials.

The highway was closed by insurgents ten days ago and troops having been trying to reopen it to the public ever since, said the governor's office.

The governor's office also said that 32 Taliban insurgents were killed and wounded in recent clashes with security forces but officials did not provide details about casualties among security forces.

The Afghan air force is still carrying out airstrikes in different parts of the province, targeting insurgents.

Officials meanwhile have confirmed that despite an ease in fighting, security forces are not actually advancing in their battle due to the high number of roadside mines.

On Tuesday, the Army Chief of Staff Qadam Shah Shahim visited Helmand and said that insurgents are trying to take control of the province with the help of regional intelligence agencies and a number of international smugglers but that security forces will not let them succeed.

He said that Helmand has witnessed heavy clashes between security forces and the Taliban in the past few weeks.

He also said that security forces are planning a large-scale military operation to clear the areas of insurgents.

Meanwhile, officials at the emergency hospital in Helmand said that in the past 15 days more than 216 people, including security force members, have been admitted to the hospital.

"In the past 15 days the number of casualties has increased and compared to the same time last year, far more casualties were brought in to the hospital. We are working 16 to 17 hours a day," said the head of Helmand emergency hospital, Vesna Nestovoric.

Asadullah, a policeman who lost a leg and a hand in the Kandahar-Helmand highway clash recently said from his hospital bed that he had been on duty at a checkpoint when attacked by Taliban.

"I was at my check post on the Kandahar-Helmand highway when the Taliban seized the highway. My commander told me to go to re-open the highway. We were caught up in a clash when a rocket landed close to me and I was wounded. When I opened my eyes I was in hospital and realized I had lost a hand and a leg," the policeman said.

"My family so far doesn't know about this," he said.

Gul Mohammad, another police officer who was injured in the battle, said he will return to the battle filed to defend his country as soon as he is well enough to do so.

"I will defend the country and my people till the last drop of my blood. My slogan is that I will give my head but not my stronghold," he said.

Sharif, a 13-year-old civilian teenager, who was also wounded in a Helmand battle, said that during the battle he lost his elder brother.

"Me and my brother were leaving home when we heard gun shots. I lost my brother in that clash and I was wounded. Now I am in here [hospital] for treatment," he said.

Thousands of families have been displaced over the past few weeks due to the ongoing clashes in the province – specifically in Garemsir, Nawa, Washir and Nad Ali districts.

India-Pakistan
Attack on Army convoy kills 3, Hizbul owns up
[Indian Express] In the first krazed killer attack on an Army convoy in the Valley since the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen krazed killer Burhan Wani, two Army personnel and a coppers were killed and five soldiers injured Wednesday. The Hizbul Mujahideen grabbed credit.

The convoy was attacked on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in the early hours of the day near Khawaja Bagh in Baramulla. The attack site is barely 50 metres from the Army’s TCP post and not far from the office of the General Officer Commanding, 19 Infantry Division.

A senior police officer said at least three Death Eaters were involved in the attack. "This could be the handiwork of Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
Death Eaters who have presence in the area,’’ the officer said.

Hizbul Mujahideen, however, grabbed credit for the attack. A front man of the krazed killer outfit told a local news agency that the attack was carried out by its special squad. He also warned of more attacks on security forces.

On Tuesday evening, Death Eaters hurled a grenade on the Kakapora cop shoppe in Pulwama district that left five coppers injured.

The Khawaja Bagh attack was the third by Death Eaters since August 15. In an attack at Nowhatta in Srinagar Monday, a CRPF commandant and two Death Eaters were killed and nine personnel injured.

Ever since protests began in the wake of Wani’s killing, the Army had been moving its convoys at night to avoid any engagement with people protesting on the streets.

Hillary's Headhunter: Sleazeball Ken Salazar
[Michelle Malkin] The Loathsome Cowboy rides again.

Ken Salazar, President Obama’s disgraced ex-interior secretary and former U.S. senator from Colorado, was named Hillary Clinton’s White House transition chair on Monday.

The pick confirms that a Clinton presidency would not only be Barack Obama’s third term ideologically, but also culturally. As in the Democratic culture of corruption.
I'm only surprised that she didn't name her son-in-law...
Ken Salazar is a thug. Before stepping down as Obama’s interior secretary in 2013 "to spend time with family," Salazar threatened violence against a local Colorado Springs Gazette reporter who had the audacity to challenge one of the ten-gallon hat-wearing bureaucrat’s cronyism-tainted deals.

At issue: How rancher and reported Salazar business associate Tom Davis profited handsomely from the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. Not long after Salazar took office, Davis paid $10 each for more than 1,700 federally protected horses who roamed on public lands. He then turned around and sold them for slaughter near the Mexican border for $154,000, despite signing a contract prohibiting him from doing so.

When Gazette reporter David Phillips (now at The New York Times) asked about the controversy at an Obama election night event in November 2012, Salazar snapped:

"You know what, never do that. This is a -- this is the Obama -- You know what, if you do that to me again, I’m going to punch you out. OK? Don’t ever, ever, from the Gazette or anybody else do that to me again. Set me up. You know?"

Caught on tape by Philipps and another witness, Knuckles Salazar issued an "apology." But neither he nor Davis, who said he had previously hauled cattle for Salazar for years, ever answered for their actions. An Inspector General determined Salazar’s department "failed to follow its own policy of limiting horse sales and ensuring that the horses sold went to good homes and were not slaughtered." No penalties, no prosecution, no nothing.

Ken Salazar is a liar. He trampled the rule of law, defied court orders, and doctored scientific conclusions in the name of environmental protection. Have you forgotten? After the BP oil spill in 2010, the Obama White House imposed a radical six-month moratorium on America’s entire deepwater drilling industry. The sweeping ban -- inserted into a technical safety document in the middle of the night by Obama’s green extremists -- cost an estimated 19,000 jobs and $1.1 billion in lost wages.

China-Japan-Koreas
Japan plans missile to test Chinese strategy in East China Sea
Japan is planning to develop a new tactical ballistic missile that would reset Chinese military strategy around disputed islands in the East China Sea. Plans for the surface-to-ship weapon, which would be the longest-range missile ever built by Japan, have emerged after prolonged months of rancour between Tokyo and Beijing over rival territorial claims.

As tensions have persisted, Japan revealed last month that it scrambled fighter jets a record 199 times in the second quarter as Chinese military activities intensified around Japan’s territorial waters and drew closer to the Senkakus — a chain of uninhabited islets known as the Diaoyu in China.

The new missile, say military experts familiar with the plans, is designed to “complicate enemy planning”. By positioning them on Japanese islands in the East China Sea and with a range that stretches to the edge of Japan’s territorial claims, the missiles would discourage naval aggression. If an attacking force were planning a landing on a Japanese island, its commander would need to destroy the missiles beforehand — in effect initiating conflict.

Japan’s move to build the missiles comes as the country strengthens its internal capability to develop military equipment after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ended the country’s self-imposed ban on the export of weapons in 2014. The programme is part of a wider effort to reduce spending on foreign-made weaponry if a domestic alternative can be produced.

The new vehicle-mounted, GPS-guided missile system is expected to be deployed to locations such as the southern island of Miyako in Okinawa, according to people familiar with the plan.

With a range of about 300km, the system will be able to cover the waters around the Senkakus. Experts say the current Type 12 surface-to-ship missiles, which Japan procured in 2012, have a range of roughly 200km.
I'd have the Type 12's deployed to these islands like right now, along with a Patriot battery or two. Don't worry about complicating Chinese military plans in 2023, worry about complicating them today.
The defence ministry said it was studying ways to enhance its existing surface-to-ship missile capability to deter invasion of Japan’s remote islands. But it declined to comment on details after an August 14 report in the Yomiuri Shimbun newsppaper said the new missiles were expected to be deployed around 2023.
That's a long lead time...
Industry watchers say the move to develop a new missile is no surprise given that the ministry’s defence guidelines released in 2013 called for Japan’s Self Defence Forces to strengthen their ability to deal with attacks on islands using aircraft, naval vessels and missiles.

The ministry is currently explaining to local municipalities in Miyako and Ishigaki islands in Okinawa and Amami island of Kagoshima in southern Japan about its plan to deploy its surface-to-ship guided-missile units.

It is expected to seek funding for development of the new missile in its initial budget requests for the 2017-18 fiscal year, to be submitted later this month.

Governments in the Asia-Pacific region are closely scrutinising Japan’s military posture following this month’s appointment of Tomomi Inada as the country’s defence minister. The outspoken nationalist, who returned on Wednesday from a visit to a Japanese military base in Djibouti, has previously expressed a hardline position on Japan’s territorial rights in the East China Sea.
