Why the Burkini Ban is Right
[SultanKnish] The media has found its latest civil rights cause. It’s not the plight of Christians in Muslim countries who are being blocked from coming here as refugees because Obama’s refugee policy favors Muslims. Obama brought over 2,000 Syrians here in July. Only 15 of them were Christians.
It’s not the rising fear of an Islamic terrorist attack in Jewish synagogues. I have lately witnessed unprecedented levels of security at synagogues including guards in body armor and checkpoints. Racist Muslim violence against Jewish synagogues has been a staple of Islamic terrorism for too many years.

But instead the media has highlighted the civil rights cause of the burkini.

...It’s not about modesty. It’s not about religion. It’s about putting a "Do Not Rape" sign on Muslim women. And putting a "Free to Molest" sign on non-Muslim women.

This isn’t some paranoid misreading of Islamic scripture. Islamic commentaries use synonyms for "molested" such as "harmed", "assaulted" and "attacked" because women who aren’t wearing their burkas aren’t "decent" women and can expect to be assaulted by Muslim men. These clothes designate Muslim women as "believing" women or "women of the believers". That is to say Muslims.

One Koranic commentary is quite explicit. "It is more likely that this way they may be recognized (as pious, free women), and may not be hurt (considered by mistake as roving slave girls.)" The Yazidi girls captured and raped by ISIS are an example of "roving slave girls" who can be assaulted by Muslim men.

Muslim women who don’t want to be mistaken for non-Muslim slave girls had better cover up. And non-Muslim women had better cover up too or they’ll be treated the way ISIS treated Yazidi women and the way that Mohammed and his gang of rapists and bandits treated any woman they came across.

That’s what the burka is. That’s what the hijab is. And that’s what the burkini is.
Also.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Meet the mastermind behind Clinton's massive email coverup
[NYP] Newly released FBI documents detailing the bureau’s investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails reveal the aide who would likely follow her into the White House as chief counsel was central to a cover-up of evidence sought by investigators.

Yet despite signs Clinton’s former chief of staff Cheryl Mills obstructed efforts by investigators to obtain Clinton’s emails, the FBI invited Mills to attend Hillary’s interview at FBI headquarters as one of her lawyers.

"It’s absolutely outrageous," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said.

"The FBI saw massive document destruction and clear intent to withhold material evidence," he added, "and they just ignored that obstruction, and even let her sit in on the interview."

The smoking gun is on page 16 of the FBI’s 47-page report. It details how Mills ultimately made the determinations about which emails should be preserved before she and Clinton decided to delete the rest as "personal." Clinton conducted both government and personal business using a personal email account -- clintonemail.com -- tied to an unsecured server set up in the basement of her New York home.

The FBI makes clear the procedure Mills used to sort out the emails was suspicious.

For starters, Mills was the one who ordered the server host to move the emails from the server to a laptop where she could screen them. She told investigators she could "not recall" if emails with non-gov addresses were included in the transfer. It’s unlikely they were, because an aide who helped her search told the FBI she only screened for emails sent to or from Clinton with .gov and .mil -- not .com -- addresses.

That means messages involving government business between Clinton and her then-deputy chief of staff Huma Abedin -- the only aide who had an email account on the clintonemail.com system-- were not likely captured. Nor were messages sent between Clinton and Mills and other aides using personal email addresses.

#4  There are numerous Federal laws broken here; destruction of government records, obstruction of justice, perjury, etc. When does the enforcement of the law proceed? After all, if these people are not subject to the laws of our land then no one is. If individuals are allowed to decide what laws are obeyed, the fabric (law) that keeps our society together will have been destroyed. The anarchy which they have created may come around to bite them in the arse in the future.

#5  Giuliani said this morning that as a prosecutor he had read possibly as many as 5,000 FBI '302 reports' and after reading the one released last week on Clinton, said it cried out for prosecution. I'll take him at his word as a legal authority and expert.

Players are not only Mills, but Lynch, very possibly Obama, Holder and ValJar. The motivation for doing nothing is beginning to look clear. It's not just letting the clock run out on Clinton, but the Obama administration and the Obama legacy as well.

Thanks you FBI Director Comeny. You've certainly done a fine job.

#7  During the Bush administration the Republicans in Congress would can any Republican who did anything unethical.

The Dems would let their crooked colleagues off the hook.

That was the Republicans fault for not enforcing integrity throughout Congress. Now both parties are corrupt.

And the American people on the right just sit on their asses and say things like "this may come back to bite them on the arse." Just like the Republicans sat back and said under Bush.

I suggest the right get off their arses now.

The Colin Kaepernick protest: 'Now for the rest of the story'
BLUF: [JoshuaPundit] But there's a little more to the story that the media and the NFL will avoid at all costs, because it explains the real reason Mr. Kaepernick has suddenly come out with the idea of inflicting his agenda publicly on the fans. And the media and the NFL have no intention of it coming out if they can help it.

As the French wisely say, Cherchez la femme, look for the woman.

In this case, the woman is hip-hop radio personality DJ Nessa Diab. She's a Berkeley grad, a very dogmatic outspoken Black Lives Matter advocate and a Muslim. She and Colin Kaepernick are engaged, and Kaepernick converted to Islam during the off season.

The two are reportedly planning what Kaepernick calls 'a traditional Muslim wedding.'

Arabia
Kuwait Tells Citizens To Check Phones Before Traveling To U.S.: Agency
Kuwait has advised citizens to make sure their phones contain no material that might be seen as being linked to Islamist militants before traveling to the United States, local media reported on Saturday, after three men were denied entry in July.

State news agency KUNA quoted a statement by the Kuwaiti embassy in Washington as saying that authorities at "some U.S. airports may check the contents of mobile phones or other smart mobile equipment".

"The embassy of the state of Kuwait in Washington urged citizens to make sure that their phones do not contain any materials or photos of extremist nature, related to areas of conflict or terrorist organizations or footage of violence of all kinds before entering U.S. territories," KUNA said, citing a statement.

"(This is) so that students and citizens may be spared questioning by authorities in U.S. airports and to avoid any action against them that could result in cancelling their visas and banning them from entering U.S. territories," it added.

The Arabic language al-Rai newspaper reported in July that three businessmen were questioned for 21 hours at Los Angeles airport and had their telephones checked before they were turned back, in the second incident of its kind this year.

The Gulf Arab OPEC oil exporter is a key U.S. ally and a member of an international alliance led by the United States which is fighting against Islamic State in Syria.

In July, the United Arab Emirates, another close Gulf Arab ally of the United States, told its male citizens to avoid wearing traditional white robes and head dress when traveling abroad, after a businessman was wrestled to the ground at an Avon, Ohio hotel and held as an Islamic State suspect.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
In a 'world full of amateurs and fools' - Missing in Iran
[Free Beacon] The world is full of amateurs and fools, bumbling their way into dim alleys or falling off the docks into dark water. But maybe the saddest cases are found among the people who actually have some skill: the people who flourish in a profession, productively filling a career, and then decide that their success in one field equips them for success in another.

The problem, I think, is that competent people often think of competence as a general kind of talent, applicable to anything to which they might turn their hand. Unfortunately, competence often proves less fungible and more particular than we like to imagine. To have done one job well doesn’t guarantee an ability to do some other job just as well.

If you ever need an example, you’ll find it in Robert Levinson, the American spy who has been missing in Iran for almost a decade. As recounted by the New York Times reporter Barry Meier in his book Missing Man, Levinson’s tale is by turns shocking, infuriating, and insanely weird--populated with Mafia figures, Russian oligarchs, Columbian drug smugglers, reckless spymasters, and lying diplomats.

But at the same time, Levinson’s story seems almost like a fugue, heading toward its predictable conclusion from the moment the former FBI agent decided to supplement his retirement pension by trying his hand at international intrigue. Once Levinson began contracting part-time with the CIA, he was stumbling toward the end of the dock, where the water is always dark and deep.

As Meier explains in Missing Man, the facts of Levinson’s disappearance are now fairly well known. In 2007, he traveled to Kish, a resort island off the coast of Iran. He did have a letter from British American Tobacco, authorizing him to investigate cigarette smuggling there. But, as it turns out, Levinson himself had forged the letter, and he had actually gone to Iran to gather information he hoped to sell to the Illicit Finance Group of the CIA.

In particular, Levinson seems to have planned a meeting with an American named Teddy Belfield--"a supreme sociopath," according to Meier--who had changed his name to Dawud Salahuddin, assassinated an Iranian dissident in Washington, D.C., and fled to Iran more than 30 years ago. One of Levinson’s old friends, the journalist Ira Silverman, had interviewed Salahuddin, and apparently suggested to Levinson that the man might be growing tired of his Iranian exile. So off Levinson went to see if he could arrange a repatriation, bringing back to the United States all that Salahuddin knew.

#1  Levinson's background alone should have led him to know better. The real "amateurs and fools" are the college kid who went to NorK and got 20+ years for messing with a propaganda poster, the Canuck, Aussie and Eurine "conflict tourists" who go to places common sense says should be avoided, the well-meaning but naïve missionaries who don't understand there are plenty of people who need help who don't happen to live in places where rebel militias and religious extremists operate. They are all prexy obooboo's "citizens of the world" types who learned everything they know about the world from John Lennon lyrics...

#5  DEPORT

No citizenship should be given. They should be put in work camps for two years learning reconstruction of sewers, roads, hospitals, learning rubbish disposal, learning basic first aid, learning civics and how to hold non-corrupt elections.

One year learning and training in barracks they make themselves. They are to wear overalls as uniform - women and men.

All migrants 15-60 are to do this, any refuse: instant deportation

any breaking of the rules: deport to turky

in their second year they will all go to syria/iraq and rebuild, whether or not they themselves are from there originally.

they will again work, from barracks that they build themselves. Anyone breaks the rules: deport to turkey

fingerprint and iris scan every one and issue an ID number to ensure those deported never come back

Only after these 2 years of service can they be considered for a visa

the only visas given are provisional visas. They allow you to work but they do not allow family reunion.

To get one you sign a document disavowing sharia. If you are caught practicing, promoting or preaching sharia , that is a breach of contract and your visa is instantly revoked and you are immediately deported to Turkey marked 'never to return'. No appeals

On the commission of any crime, deportation is instant, no appeals.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
British Journo: Syrian Kidnapper Who Shot Me Twice Is Now a CIA-Vetted 'Moderate'
[PJ] British reporter Anthony Loyd recounts in The Times (UK) today his reaction when he saw his former Syrian "rebel" kidnapper Hakim Abu Jamal, aka Abdel Hakim al-Yaseen and Hakim Anza, celebrating a victory in northern Syria two weeks ago as part of a supposedly CIA-vetted "moderate" rebel group.

Loyd reports (The Times article is behind a paywall; link is to same article in The Australian):

It was with some surprise watching a video of a victorious band of western-backed rebels that I noticed the face of America’s newest ally in the war against Isis in Syria. It was the face of a man I last saw in May 2014 when he leant forward to shoot me twice in the left ankle at almost point-blank range while my hands were tied. It was punishment for having attempted to escape his gang of kidnappers in northern Syria who had hoped to sell me on. He shot me in the middle of a crowd of onlookers, after a savage preliminary beating, denouncing me as "a CIA spy". Now, it seems, he works with them.

The grainy footage of the video - posted last month on Facebook - showed Hakim Abu Jamal waving his Kalashnikov in the air to proclaim a small victory, courtesy of US air power, on a dusty street in the border town of al-Rai.

I remember him well from across the years. Now, Hakim, forage cap on his head, was standing in the middle of a group of ten other Syrian rebel fighters all belonging to a CIA-vetted group.

The group was backed by Turkish artillery and US airstrikes to oust Isis fighters from a key stretch of road before the capture of the town of Jarabulus last month. Hakim Abu Jamal, who also goes by the names Abdel Hakim al-Yaseen and Hakim Anza, was among the hundreds of other Syrian rebels who crossed from Turkey into Syria two weeks ago to purge ISIS.

And it seems that U.S. authorities aren't eager to respond to questions about their newly minted "moderate" rebels:

Last month, however, video surfaced of Hakim Anza proving that he was not only free, but was also serving in a CIA-vetted Syrian rebel group, First Regiment (al-Fawj al-Awwal), which was receiving US weaponry, including Tow missiles, as well as air strikes in support of their operations. In between times he appears to be based in southern Turkey, where he takes orders from the Hawar Kilis Operations room.

Four US hostages were murdered in Syria in 2014. Two British hostages were also beheaded there. The memories of Britain and America must be short, for on Friday sources in the Free Syrian Army and US confirmed Hakim Anza's membership of the CIA-backed group, in which he is sub-commander.

Centcom, the US Central Command, did not respond to Times requests over three days this week to explain how such a well-known hostage taker with family connections to extremists could have passed US vetting procedures.

However, a Pentagon official, who preferred not to be named, described repeated US air support for a recent mission conducted by vetted Syrian rebel groups, where Hakim Anza was filmed with his men on August 17. He has apparently transformed effortlessly from criminal pariah to a worthy foot soldier allied to Operation Inherent Resolve, the 60-nation coalition, motto "One Mission, Many Nations", in the Middle East to fight ISIS.

Skipping a lengthy FSA chronology and moving to the closing paras:

And yet the Obama administration continues on a reckless course of backing these rebels well knowing that any actual moderates have become few and far between in Syria, and that some of these CIA-"vetted" groups have been directly involved in the abduction and killing of U.S. citizens.

And a larger question looms: as the mountain of evidence continues to grow about the extremism of U.S.-backed rebel groups, at what point does the U.S. become complicit in their crimes?

British woman was raped before ‘honour’ killing, finds probe
[Siasat] The officer in charge investigating British-Pak woman Samia Shahid’s ’honour’ killing in Pakistain has revealed that she was raped before her death.

Shahid, 28, from Bradford, was found dead in Pandori village in the house of her first husband Shakeel Ahmed on July 20 and the family claimed she had died a natural death, reports the Express Tribune.

Police charged Shahid’s ex-husband and father with her murder on Saturday.

"We have completed our investigation and concluded that her ex-husband Muhammad Shakeel and (her) father Muhammad Shahid were involved in her killing," said Abubakar Buksh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, in the region.

"Her ex-husband has also been charged with raping her," he said.

According to Shahid’s second husband Kazam, his wife had angered her parents by converting to Shia Islam, his sect, before their wedding.

Iraq’s Sadr calls for general strike to pressure govt on reforms
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraq’s prominent Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
on Friday urged babus government employees to wage a two-day general strike across the country starting Sunday over what he described as the government dragging its feet over moves to curb corruption.

In a statement read at al-Tahrir Square in central Baghdad on Friday, Sadr said "it is now imperative to activate peaceful protests" following the expiry of his one-month ultimatum to the government on the issue.

Iraq ranks 161st out of 168 countries on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index.

Sadr, who enjoys a wide base and is the leader of the Sadrist Movement, urged all babus government employees to start their peaceful protest starting Sunday to Monday. He said the would-be protesters should stand in front of buildings to fix urgent matters that need to be dealt with.

He also called for a hunger strike inside mosques, churches and other places of worship and cultural institutes.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi assumed office in September 2014. The main plank for his premiership bid at the time was to fight corruption and press ahead with reforms.

While Abadi launched his offensive to bring about more reforms, including reshuffles within top military ranks, his promised change is still elusive in a country rife with political rivalry and instability.

As the operation to liberate Iraq’s second largest city of djinn-infested Mosul

looms, parliament withdrew confidence from the country’s defense minister over corrupt arms deals.

Some commentators consider the move to sack some politicians over others as political, with the former defense minister himself accusing fellow politicians, including the parliament speaker, of corruption.

Libya Pro-Govt Forces Attack Last ISIL Bastion in Sirte
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Forces loyal to Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) said Saturday they have launched a new attack on diehards of the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
group in the coastal city of Sirte.

Backed by weeks of US air strikes, the pro-GNA forces have recaptured nearly all of what had been the Takfiris’ main stronghold in North Africa.

"We are attacking the last ISIS positions in district three," a GNA fighter told AFP, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS. The GNA forces media centre confirmed on their Facebook account that the attack had begun.

"Our forces are advancing inside the areas where ISIS is, in district three, and so far have taken control of" two banks and a hotel, the media centre said.

It also said they had thwarted an attempted suicide kaboom.

One pro-government fighter had been killed, the Misrata hospital’s Facebook page said.

An AFP journalist saw ambulances leaving Sirte -- hometown of dead dictator Moamer Qadaffy -- for Misrata to the west.

The forces loyal to the UN-backed GNA had said last weekend they were preparing to "liberate" the entire city after seizing several IS positions, including its headquarters.

On Wednesday, GNA head Fayez al-Sarraj visited Sirte for the first time since loyalist forces launched their offensive more than three months ago to drive the Takfiris from the city.

Sarraj and some of his ministers toured former front lines as well as the Ouagadougou conference centre which IS had used as its base.

"We will continue to chase, with the help of God, the ISIS remnants and strike them wherever they may be in our country," Sarraj said this week.

The view from Libyan Herald

Tripoli, 3 September 2016:

The outcome of the battle for Sirte is not in doubt but IS is proving no less deadly in its death throws. Ten Bunyan Marsous fighters died today in a renewed assault on the terrorists’ remaining positions. At least 30, one report puts the figure as high as 70, other fighters were injured.

The terrorists are still resorting to the much-feared car bombs but one attempt today was blown up by ground fire before it could reach its target. Snipers and booby traps continue to reap a grim harvest of dead and injured. Among the slain today was the oldest fighter in the BM ranks, Ali Edaib, aged 80.

The death toll among the largely Misratan attackers is now approaching 500.

The fighting today was in the town’s Number One district with some mopping up in the Third district. Both are largely residential.

The BM media office said that the bodies of ten terrorists had been found in a school. It is not clear how they were killed.

In what must be a disturbing development for BM commanders, last night a roadside IED on the highway between Misrata and Sirte, destroyed a passing BM vehicle and killed two of the occupants.

said on Saturday.

"We had intelligence alert about a possible murderous Moslem attack in three to four areas in Peshawar," Nisar said during a press briefing in Mardan.

Terrorists struck Mardan and Peshawar on Friday, killing 14 people and injuring 49 in a day that could have ended with a higher number of deaths had four of the suicide bombers not been killed before they could set off their explosives.

"Pakistain’s security forces have won a difficult war but there is still more to be done to eradicate terrorism entirely," Nisar said, adding that "previously there were attacks every other day, now they happen in months".

the interior minister admitted that the security situation in the country is not entirely under control.

"We have yet to take financiers of terrorism to task," he said.

Nisar said Pakistain's war against terrorism was for its own survival. "To do politics on terrorist attacks is like putting the country's future at stake."

Libyan naval attack on charity ship adds new danger to migrant rescue
[TheGuardian] Chaotic and deadly scenes are unfolding off the Libyan coast as record numbers of migrants attempt the dangerous crossing to Europe.

More than 13,000 migrants were rescued last week from the seas off the lawless country, most by a flotilla of charity vessels which themselves are under threat after details emerged of an attack on one of them by the Libyan navy.

Europe’s migrant crisis of last summer is repeating itself in the waters of the Mediterranean as tens of thousands struggle to cross from Libya, following the closure of the migration route through the Balkans from Turkey. And those seas may be about to witness armed confrontation, with the arrival of the Royal Navy frigate HMS Diamond to lead Operation Sophia, a European Union force tasked with intercepting people smugglers.

The centre of the migration chaos is a stretch of water hugging Libya’s western coast, where smugglers are putting migrants into flimsy boats without enough fuel to reach Europe, knowing that they will either be plucked from the water or drown, the fate of 3,000 people so far this year.
These smugglers are still alive -- why?
However, the seas are becoming as dangerous for the rescuers as the rescued, with the Libyan navy admitting last week that it staged an attack that saw the rescue boat Bourbon Argos, of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) raked with gunfire. When gunmen opened fire on the ship, on the morning of 17 August, the crew hid in a safe room, thinking the attackers would seize them or sink the boat from under them.
We covered this at the time, figuring that it was pirates. Nice to know the Libyan navy isn't above piracy...
The Libyan navy said that it intercepted the boat when checking for illegal petrol smuggling, and insists that any bullet strikes (MSF say 13 hit the bridge and wheelhouse) were accidental. The charity condemned the attack, saying: “This was a serious and worrying attack, with shooting towards our boat which could have put our staff in acute physical danger.”

It is not the first time Libya’s navy has threatened rescue boats. In April, warning shots were fired prior to the boarding of a vessel from the German charity Sea Watch. “They fired shots in the air and entered our ship. They claimed to be looking for illegal fishing,” says Sea Watch’s Ruben Neugebauer.

Rescue ships from nine aid groups operating off Libya are already at full stretch. A deal cut in the spring between the EU and Turkey has blocked the route to Europe used by 900,000 migrants last year. As a result, smuggling gangs have switched gear, channelling Middle Eastern migrants through Libya to join the growing number of Africans making the same journey. “The Turkey deal was done in March, it takes some time to change routes, but this is changing right now,” says Neugebauer.
Shoot a few smugglers. Drone zap them. A fair bit of this will stop.
There is apprehension among the rescue crews about the coming armed intervention by combined EU navies, authorised last week by Brussels. Some fear they will be caught in the crossfire. “We don’t want to pick people out of the water while a naval vessel is there with all guns blazing,” says Peter Sweetnam, chief executive of Malta-based Migrant Offshore Aid Station.

Speaking from the deck of his rescue ship, Phoenix, Sweetnam says charity boats are already working flat out, with smugglers sending people to sea in wooden hulks, inflatable rafts and anything that floats. “We’ve got 414 survivors on board at the moment, and we helped rescue more than 1,000 in the past two days. After the MSF attack, we improved our communications; it’s a reminder of the element we are working in,” he says.

The growth of the flotilla of rescue ships from charities across Europe has seen tens of thousands saved from drowning, but the August attack has put a question mark over how long unprotected vessels can continue operating. “If the security situation deteriorates further, I don’t think the small NGOs can continue,” says Cusumano. “As for the bigger boats, these boats are chartered. They belong to a ship owner; I can imagine the ship owners pulling out.”

For the crews of the rescue ships, the fear of kidnap sits alongside anxiety that Italy, recipient of 100,000 migrants so far this year, may refuse to take the people they rescue, since few other EU states are willing to take their share of new arrivals. North African states are equally unwilling to help, leaving the rescuers wondering if they will one day run out of ports willing to take saved migrants.

There is unease among charities about asking for protection from the growing number of foreign warships.
Because the military of your own countrymen, highly professional and proficient, is ucky...
NGOs fear their independence would be compromised by seeking naval protection, and that protection would require them to operate farther from the coast, leaving many migrant boats to founder.

Yet there is no sign of an end to the human exodus. Libya’s UN-backed government, unelected and lacking popular support, has no security force of its own or the means to police the militias, for whom migrant smuggling is big business. Operation Sophia estimates the income to the militias from this migration at more than £200m a year, strengthening their hand.
Need to raise the personal cost of this for the smuggler chiefs...
There are bright spots, with foreign crews highlighting the help from Libya’s coastguard, a separate service from the navy, in joint rescues, and Brussels has announced it will begin training its units. The bigger problem highlighted by charity crews, many having worked off Libya for two years, is the lack of a political solution to the crisis, with European states unwilling to open their doors to legal mass migration.
That's stated as a problem for which one should criticize the European states, whereas it's more of a recognition of unreality by the charities...
“This could all be solved if the EU could give migrants procedures,” says Neugebauer. “This is a political problem, it’s absolutely man-made. There has to be a political solution.”
I have a political solution for you but you won't like it.

The premise is simple: the best place for Libyan refugees is in Libya. The best place for Syrian refugees is in Syria. And so on.

Establish refugee camps. In Libya. Set them up in a place that's reasonable with clean water, decent shelter, decent food. The EU provides sufficient armed security, including military force. The EU can provide a lot of the aid. Separate Libyan refugees (internal) from non-Libyans (external). Start repatriating the externals to their home countries. Move the internals to safe locations within Libya as the situation permits. Modest amounts of aid to these other countries to assist in the repatriation.

If the Libyans don't like, too bad. Look them straight in the eye and tell them you'll close the camps and leave the day the Libyan people can form a government that is representative, can keep basic law and order, and can control its own borders. But until you can act like a sovereign state, you won't be treated like a sovereign state.

If the EU objects to the heavy lifting: you can either deal with the refugee problem in Libya, or deal with it in your home countries. My way is easier, and better for everyone in the long term.

India-Pakistan
MQM’s fortunes
[DAWN] THESE are interesting times for the MQM. On Friday, the party’s politicians in the National Assembly did what even a few weeks ago would have been unthinkable: they supported a government-initiated resolution condemning party supremo the increasingly enormousAltaf Hussain
..The head of MQM in Pakistain, who has lived in London and hasn't laid eyes on Pakistain since Caesar made corporal. Judging from the size of him,he may be a Hutt...
and announced they were now ’disconnected’ from the man in London. A day earlier, the party had said it had written Mr Hussain out of the organization’s constitution. These developments -- surprising as they are -- come in the aftermath of the speech Altaf Hussain made on Aug 22. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
for those aware of the Muttahida’s history, this clean break with Mr Hussain, if indeed genuine, is pivotal. After all, not too long ago the party supremo’s word was law on the streets of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, with his cadres rushing to defend his every outburst, and carrying out his questionable commands with zealous dedication. But the anti-Pakistain rant seems to have been the last straw, pushing the Muttahida’s politicianship to the wall and forcing them to denounce their founder’s remarks.

Today, the MQM stands at the crossroads more than ever before in its over three decades of existence. For neutral observers, the party appears to be a bundle of contradictions. It has frequently courted the security establishment, yet has also suffered the consequences when the men in khaki cracked down due to Muttahida ’crossing the line’. It has returned middle-class candidates to the assemblies otherwise dominated by feudal, tribal and financial ’elites’, yet has also ruthlessly plundered its constituents in the name of zakat, fitra and ’donations’. It has emerged as a secular voice of urban Sindh’s Urdu speakers, yet has unambiguously dabbled in political militancy. It has claimed to speak for the descendants of those who ’fought for Pakistain’, yet has also followed this up with talk of secession. On top of all these contradictions, it runs a powerful electoral machine in urban Sindh, one with a solid vote bank that even without the use of strong-arm tactics and electoral malpractices has genuine support, as the recent local government elections and various by-polls have shown.

The million-dollar question is: will the MQM from now on purely concentrate on its political activities and forever forsake the gun? The answer to this question depends on the ’Altaf factor’; the MQM founder has been unusually quiet ever since his Aug 22 diatribe. Some have smelt conspiracies, saying the split is deliberate and cosmetic, while his London-based acolytes have trashed talk of a ’minus-one’ formula. It remains to be seen whether Altaf Hussain will go quietly into the sunset and let the Pakistain-based party rebuild itself. Or will the dreaded hard boy wing -- seen as still loyal to Mr Hussain -- try and wrest control from the political faction? The days ahead will reveal what path the Muttahida takes, and how this will affect Karachi’s politics, and the fate of the MQM in general.

Turkish aid sent to Gaza after Israel deal approved
Any bets on when the first contraband is found in those shipments from Turkey?
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkish aid for the Gazoo Strip has been sent from the country’s southern coast for the second time since relations were normalized between Israel and Ankara in June, a Turkish official said Saturday.

A humanitarian aid ship bound for southern Israel’s Ashdod port left Mersin on Friday, the official said, "the second major shipment of humanitarian aid to Gazoo since an agreement was reached."

The shipment is the first since Turkish politicians ratified the deal to normalize ties between the two countries last month.

Under the deal, Israel will pay The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
$20 million (17.7 million euros) in compensation for a botched Israeli commando raid on a Gazoo-bound Turkish aid ship in 2010 that left 10 Turks dead.

The official, who did not wish to be named, said Ankara had sent 100 wheelchairs, 1,000 bicycles, 100,000 backpacks and stationery kits, 300,000 pieces of clothing and 350,000 nappies.

The shipment also contained 1,288 tons of flour, 170 tons of rice, 64 tons of sugar, 95 tons of vegetable oil, the official said.

"We expect the items to be distributed to the people of Gazoo before the upcoming Islamic holiday," the official said, referring to the Eid al-Adha holiday, around Sep. 12.

The first shipment reached Gazoo on July 4 just in time for the Moslem Eid celebrations marking the end of Ramadan fasting.

Five dead in first east Niger Boko Haram attack in three months
[DeutscheWelle] Five villagers were killed and two others maimed in an attack by suspected murderous Moslems from the Islamist group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
in eastern Niger, officials said Saturday.

The attack took place Friday in the town of Tourmour, said Diffa border region governor Dan Dano Mahaman Laouali. He told Niger public radio the suspected murderous Moslems rode on camels into the village of Toumour, killing and wounding townspeople and burning buildings before fleeing toward Nigeria.

The raid marks the first time in three months Boko Haram has carried out an attack in eastern Niger, though the Diffa region has been targeted numerous times by suspected murderous Moslems in the past.

In early June, Boko Haram launched a major offensive in Bosso, a town in Niger near the border with Nigeria and Chad. Tens of thousands of Nigeriens fled the region after a June 23 attack on the town which killed 26 soldiers.

Quasem swings for war crimes
A top Islamist party figure was hanged in Bangladesh on Saturday for atrocities committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan, the country’s law minister said, an act that could draw an angry reaction from his supporters.

Mir Quasem Ali, 63, a key financier of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, was executed at Kashimpur Central Jail on the outskirts of the capital for murder, confinement, torture and incitement to religious hatred during the war fought to break away from Pakistan.

Ali was hanged at 10.35pm local time, law minister Anisul Haq told Reuters.

The execution took place amid a spate of militant attacks in the Muslim-majority nation, the most serious on 1 July, when gunmen stormed a cafe in Dhaka’s diplomatic quarter and killed 20 hostages, most of them foreigners. Thousands of extra police and border guards were deployed in Dhaka and other major cities. Previous convictions and executions have triggered violence that has killed about 200 people, most of them Islamist party activists, and police.

Since December 2013, five Jamaat leaders, including former top leader Motiur Rahman Nizami, and a leader of the main opposition party, have been executed for crimes committed during the 1971 war.

Prosecutors said Nizami was responsible for setting up the pro-Pakistani al-Badr militia, which killed leading writers, doctors and journalists in the most gruesome chapter of the war. Their bodies were found blindfolded with their hands tied and dumped in a marsh at the outskirts of the capital. The trial heard Nizami had ordered the killings, designed to “intellectually cripple” the fledgling nation.

He was hanged in May after being convicted in October 2014 by the international crimes tribunal, set up by the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, in 2010. The tribunal has drawn criticism from opposition politicians, who say it is targeting their political foes. The government denies the accusations.

Human rights groups say the tribunal’s procedures fall short of international standards, but the government rejects that assertion, and the trials are supported by many Bangladeshis.
Fair enough for that region. No need to bring in Carla del Ponte...
Official figures show about 3 million people were killed and thousands of women were raped during the nine-month war, in which some factions, including Jamaat-e-Islami, opposed the breakaway. Independent researchers put the death toll at between 300,000 and 500,000.

How the Turks deceived the Americans on Syria
[Ynet] The US simply joined the Russian-Turkish party in Syria, essentially allowing Assad's rule to continue--at least for now--and Iran and Hezbollah to establish their hold on the war-battered country. This is the worst possible outcome for Israel.

The Americans are now selling out the Syrian Kurds to the Turks--but we've already gotten used to their cynical foreign policy. What Israel is having a hard time getting used to, however, is the fact its biggest ally is completely disregarding Israeli interests in the Middle East.

Over the past two years, since the international intervention in Syria began, Western diplomacy has been trying to convince allies in the world to cooperate with the minorities in Syria. Alongside the Kurds and Druze, who are the two larger minority groups, there are other ethnic-religious groups in Syria who are demanding autonomy.

#1  The Americans simply joined this Russian-Turkish party. What this means for Israel is that the Americans are essentially giving their consent to the continuation of the Assad regime, for now, and allowing Iran and Hezbollah to establish their hold on Syria ahead of a future political agreement in the country.

#3  Pray to God that the next administration treats Turkey as an enemy and the Kurds as friends! It is imperative that some administrative role be granted the minority Kurds in east Mosul once that city is taken. It is imperative that the U.S. military retain their base north of Irbil as a block against both the Turks and the Iraqis. We definitely need another ally in the Middle East beside Israel (which has been treated unconscionably by the Obama admin). Finally, any State Department employee who had a hand in the support of the so-called "Arab Spring" should be purged.

Fact: The governments of Iran, Iraq, Syria(sic), and Turkey ALL want to crush an emerging Kurdistan.
Who is going to help them? Who has an vested interest in helping them? Who is willing to pay the butcher's bill involved in helping them? IMO, the Kurds and Lebanon deserve help, unfortunately I don't see anyone that will provide it.

Indian troops fire from across LoC
[DAWN] Indian troops posted in held Kashmire resorted to unprovoked firing again on Friday, violating the ceasefire for the 42nd time during the current year.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the firing in Thob and Bhimber sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) was limited to small and medium arms. It continued for around two hours, but no loss of life was reported by the people in Azad Kashmire or Pak troops.

Responding to the belligerent Indian move, Pak troops returned fire at the army posts on the other side, using 12.7mm machineguns.

There have been 42 ceasefire violations by Indian troops this year.

Bishop William Slattery: Whites to blame for race issues in Pretoria, SA
[Times Live] So said Catholic Bishop William Slattery at a meeting of religious leaders in Pretoria yesterday.

He said white people "escaped" institutions once they were opened to all races.

He used as an example four Catholic schools in the Pretoria city centre that had only white pupils in the 1960s but now had hardly a single white pupil.

"They have all withdrawn from the schools. So white people have a problem," he said.

Slattery said the fact that the country was grappling with racial tension more than two decades into democracy was a huge frustration for people yearning for a nonracial society.

White people were impoverishing themselves in the process by not being sensitive to other people's cultures, he said.

Slattery said the answer was patience, saying that more than a century after the Anglo-Boer War English and Afrikaners found it difficult to mix and socialise.

"It takes a long time. It is a question of trust," he said, adding that white people needed to learn to trust their brothers and sisters.

Malusi Mpumlwana, a Bishop of the Ethiopian Episcopal Church, shared the same sentiments, saying all churches in Pretoria had gone black because whites "have escaped".

Now that's funny right there.

Has he noticed how successful the US has been with attaining a nonracial society in 50 years, not to mention the 150 since the Civil War?

Would you want to have your car fixed, no less be operated on, by a guy that was forced to do it against his will all in the name of social engineering?

True integration will take a looooooong time because the real issue isn't race, it's culture.

#5  it may surprise you to know but blacks are as newcomers to South Africa as whites are

they are not the "native" people there at all.

The indigenous people of South Africa are the San who were pushed out by invading whites from the south and blacks from the north until they retreated north into the Kalahari. Now they are known as the Bushmen of the Kalahari.

They are not black, they are brown. They are totally unlike the black migrants who are an aggressive tribe that came originally from the great lakes region before spreading across the continent.

The whites are now in retreat and will be as invisible one day as the bushmen of the kalahari

Algeria OPEC meeting to propose oil output freeze
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Saturday that an agreement to freeze oil production levels could be worked out at the forthcoming meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Algeria, Sputnik reported.

On September 26-28, representatives of 73 member states of the International Energy Forum (IEF) are set to meet in the Algerian capital to discuss oil-related issues. OPEC members are expected to hold informal consultations on the sidelines of the IEF summit.

"In regard to the discussion of the situation in general, within its framework different proposals could be worked out," Novak said speaking about the possibility to freeze oil output during the upcoming meeting. "This issue would be worked out in the course of monitoring."

The minister said that Russia was open for proposals to coordinate its efforts with other oil producing states.

"We adhere to the position that our doors are always open in regard to the issues related to monitoring and coordination of activities, because the market situation is still complicated and it has not stabilized in the last two years taking into consideration the decrease in prices. I think that within the framework of the ministerial meeting, which will be held on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum, we will be able to discuss the situation with the colleagues."

Global oversupply and stagnating demand have caused oil prices to plunge from $115 per barrel in June 2014 to less than $30 per barrel in January 2016. Prices recovered amid Nigeria and Venezuela's output outages and growing demand in May, peaking at over $50 per barrel in early June.

Three soldiers dead as ‘dismantled’ bomb explodes in Yemen market
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three Yemeni soldiers were killed Saturday when a mine they had "dismantled" and taken away in their vehicle blew up as they stopped in a marketplace, a security official said.
"Mahmoud, did you pull the detonator?"
"Yeah. I think it was the detonator!"

Seven other people including three civilians were maimed in the blast in Huta, capital of the southern province of restive Lahj
... a Yemeni governate located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. It is the stomping grounds on the southern secessionist al-Harak movement
, a bastion of al-Qaeda Lion of Islams, according to the official.

The soldiers had "dismantled" the mine planted by suspected murderous Moslems on a road on the edge of Huta and placed it in the back of their vehicle, he said, declining to be named.

The device went kaboom! when they stopped at a market in the city, he added.

Libyan militia die in carjacking in Tripoli
A member of the local Fursan Janzour (Janzour Knights) was killed in fighting with a group that had stolen vehicles from a car showroom and compound in the west Tripoli suburb.

The militia went to the showroom after being alerted that it had been raided early in the morning and dozens of vehicles stolen. To their surprise they found the thieves still there. They were armed and in the subsequent shootout one of the militiamen was killed.

In a statement, the Fursan Janzour claim that the gang was from the neighbouring suburb of Ghut Shaal, naming its leader. The militia adds that it will respond to the raid and insists that the lack of adequate state security protection means that it has to continue its operations.

Purges in N.Korea's Upper Echelons Continue
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un keeps brutally asserting his hold on power with purges of the upper echelons, the government here confirmed Wednesday.

Kim Yong-jin (63), a vice premier, was executed by firing squad on charges of counter-revolutionary activities after he was seen sitting in a "bad attitude" at the Supreme People's Assembly in June, the Unification Ministry here told reporters. The narrative suggests that the vice premier had amassed too much personal wealth and influence.

Among officials particularly feared in South Korea, Kim Yong-chol (71), the head of the United Front Department, was sent for re-education and hard labor on a farm between mid-July and mid-August, apparently for abusing his power.

A government official here said Kim Yong-chol, who is believed to be behind the sinking of the South Korean Navy corvette Cheonan in 2010, was punished for his "poor track record" in dealing with South Korea. The government warned that he may now feel the need to prove his loyalty by masterminding another provocation against the South.

Kim Yong-chol was conspicuously absent from a ceremony last month marking "Victory Day" or the end of the Korean War.

Counterterrorism Taskforce Established in Aden
Aden-As governorates are freed from militia-hold in Yemen, they self repair- a major number of security and judicial institutions in southern Yemen have been reinstated and are operational.

Brigadier General Saleh Mohammed Al Qamli, head of the Aden criminal investigations unit told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that local police have launched a special investigations counterterrorism unit, a first for the country.

The task force’s chief mission is to pursue suspects believed to be affiliated with the hardline terror groups such as al-Qaeda or ISIS.

Qamli explained that the counterterrorism force will also be involved with case files of criminal fugitives and will account to 80 percent of crime prevention.

Commenting on the restoration of administrative life to liberated areas, Qamli said that the return of public prosecution to work had played majorly to settling the hundreds of piled up cases at the criminal investigations unit.

The security official clarified that the headquarters of criminal investigations had been largely damaged by the oppressive war waged by insurgency militia attempting to oust legitimacy from the country.

The coup in Yemen is led by Houthi armed militants and gunmen supporting the toppled former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Criminal Investigation Unit quarters in Aden were subjected to massive destruction during the Houthi-led offensive in March 2015.

Qamli also said that leveling down the security center and vandalizing the laboratory was intentional.

He added that words fail him when attempting to elaborate on the size of damage done. Moreover, Qamli reported that all employees and agents of the security body are under continuous threats of assassinations and harm.

Qamli also lauded and held high Gulf countries for the support given to reinstate the unit, namely the Saudi-led Arab coalition. He added that the operational activity has reached average thanks to all the received assistance.

8 Turkish soldiers dead in anti-terrorist operations

Eight Turkish servicemen were killed and eight more were injured during anti-terrorist operations in the country’s Van province, the Anadolu Agency reported Sept. 3.

Reportedly, Turkey has neutralized 11 militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist organization in the Mount Tendurek.

The anti-terrorist operations continue with support of Turkish Air Force.

3 soldiers dead in shootout in Turkey

Three Turkish servicemen died and 23 more were wounded in a shootout between the Turkish military and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the country’s south-eastern province of Hakkari, the Turkish Haber 7 TV channel reported Sept. 3.

According to the report, Turkish armed forces sent additional troops to the Hakkari province.

Turkey kills 100 PKK militants

More than 100 members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militant group have been killed or wounded in clashes with Turkish army forces in the restive southeastern part of the country, Milliyet newspaper reported.

Turkish military said in a statement on Saturday that over 100 PKK militants had been “neutralized” during the clashes, without specifying how many were killed and how many wounded. The casualty toll from Saturday’s clashes was one of the highest in a single day of the conflict in recent years.

Turkish forces suffered a bloody 24 hours after 13 soldiers and a village guardsman were killed in three separate incidents in the country’s east and southeast, blamed on Kurdish militants.
Al Ahram adds:
Thirteen PKK fighters were killed by Turkish jets around the Tendurek mountains in Van province, the office said, while Anadolu reported that the operation supported by the air force continued.

Attacks against Turkish military have continued with almost daily attacks since the July 15 failed coup which tried to oust President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from power.

Since the collapse of a two-year ceasefire in July, Anadolu reported over 600 Turkish security force members have been killed by the PKK in renewed fighting.

The government has responded with military operations against the group, killing more than 7,000 militants in Turkey and northern Iraq, the agency said. It is not possible to independently verify the toll.

Activists claim innocent civilians have also been killed in the offensives.

Taliban confirm Anas Haqqani sentenced to death by Kabul primary court
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs group in Afghanistan confirmed Anas Haqqani has been sentenced to death by primary court of Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
on Monday.

Insisting on Anas’s innocence and lack of accountability, the group claimed the "American government and the Afghan government both do not have any proof or material etc to keep him in detention."

The group further added that the death penalty of Anas Haqqani is politically imposed. "There are no legal grounds on which the death sentence could ever be awarded to Anas Haqqani."

The remarks by Taliban came as there have been growing pleas by the Afghan people as well as several former Afghan officials to hang Anas.

The Haqqani terrorist network is accused of staging numerous deadly attacks in Afghanistan including a coordinated attack on VIP protection unity in Kabul wich left at least 74 people dead and over 300 others maimed.

The majority of the victims of the incident were ordinary civilians, according to the Afghan officials.

In the meantime, the group released the latest video of the American and Canadian hostages in a bid to force the Afghan government prevent imposing death sentence on Anas.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian Army, Hezbollah attack strategic military site in southern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade of the Republican Guard, backed by the 800th Regiment and Hezbollah’s "Radwan Group," stormed the strategic Armament School in southern Aleppo on Friday, continuing their large-scale offensive against the jihadist rebels of Jaish al-Fateh (Army of Conquest).

A field source told al-Masdar News on Friday morning that the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah are attempting to bypass Jaish al-Fateh’s first-line of defense at the Armament School; however, no progress has been reported so far.

The Armament School is vitally located at the southern flank of the Technical College; if captured, the Syrian Armed Forces will have successfully closed off the road to east Aleppo.

More importantly, the Armament School was considered a fortress prior to the Syrian Arab Army’s withdrawal in August; it will continue to be an advantageous military installation for any party in control it.

ISIS Launches new attack on Aleppo

[ARA News] ALEPPO – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) started to fight back in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and bombed headquarters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), military sources reported on Sunday.

“ISIS terrorists launched a mortar attack on the SDF security centre in the Um al-Qura town north of Aleppo,” SDF spokesman Khalid Zaitoun told ARA News.

At least three SDF fighters were killed and nine more were wounded in the ISIS attack, according to the official.

“Our forces were able to deter the terror attack after bombing the ISIS fighting positions with heavy artillery,” the SDF spokesman said.

This comes just a few days after the Syrian Democratic Forces announced a new military operation against ISIS in Aleppo province.

Since Tuesday, the SDF was able to expel the radical group from several towns and villages in northern Aleppo, including Um al-Haush, Um al-Qura, Harbal and Qarrah.

“ISIS terrorists are trying to regain positions they lost earlier to the SDF, but we reassure the people of Aleppo that our forcers will continue their operations until cleansing the entire province from ISIS and its affiliates,” SDF member Zedun Heddo told ARA News.

The new anti-ISIS operation comes just two weeks after the Syrian Democratic Forces expelled the radical group from the city of Manbij–a former jihadi border pocket.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea Expands Women's Concentration Camp
North Korea has been expanding concentration camps for women near the border with China as a growing number are forcibly repatriated.

The information comes from a report released Tuesday by the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, a U.S. activist group, on the Chongori reeducation camp, also known as Camp No. 12. The camp is in Hoeryong near the North Korea-China border in North Hamgyong Province.

The group tracked changes in the reeducation camp from the 1960s until May last year in cooperation with AllSource Analysis, a commercial intelligence firm that specializes in satellite images, and based on defectors' testimony.

Twenty percent of the inmates are women, the vast majority of them sent back from China.

"The prison was expanded between February and August 2009 with the addition of a rectangular walled annex for female prisoners," the report said.

The camp was originally built for men, but the regime started incarcerating women there in 2007 as more of them fled the country and were repatriated. The number of inmates has roughly quadrupled from some 1,300 in the 1990s to 5,000, and another building is reportedly under construction as the camp exceeds its capacity.

"Male inmates are digging mines in search of copper and female inmates are forced into labor at a wig factory or on a farm," said a former inmate who escaped. "Brutality, including torture and beatings, is routine there."

The activists called on the North Korean regime to improve conditions for the inmates, who often suffer malnutrition, improve the environment at worksites like the copper mine, solve water pollution near the copper mine, and allow the international Red Cross to access the site.

15 Workers Kidnapped in Nigeria’s Oil Hub
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Gunmen have kidnapped 15 oil workers on a road near Nigeria’s oil hub of Port Harcourt, police said on Saturday, in the latest unrest in the restive region.

"Fifteen oil workers, including their driver, were kidnapped yesterday (Friday) by unknown gunnies who hijacked their vehicle on Omoku/Elele road after shooting into the air to scare passersby," Rivers state police front man Nnamdi Omoni told AFP.

He said the workers, who were employees of Nestoil, an oil and gas service firm, were on their way to their office in Port Harcourt when they were seized. They are all Nigerian local staff.

Omoni said police was on the trail of the gunnies.

"We are combing the bush and creeks in the area. Our men are all over the place. We are doing our best to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers", he said.

Omoni said police had recovered the bus after it was abandoned by the gunnies.

Kidnappings targeting prominent Nigerians and foreigners, especially in the oil-producing south, was rife in the 2000s until a 2009 government amnesty reduced unrest in the region.

The hostages are usually released after ransom payments.

ISIS forces light up dozens of oil wells at Qayyarah

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – ISIS set ablaze dozens of oil wells and destroyed thousands of houses in Qayyarah before withdrawing from the city in northern Iraq.

Head of the Kurdish Brotherhood and Coexistence Bloc in Nineveh provincial council Saido Chato said on Saturday, “ISIS on Saturday set ablaze to most of the oil wells in Qayyarah during Iraqi army’s offensive to regain the area,” adding, “ISIS set the wells on fire in order to keep themselves out of sight of the US-led coalition’s warplanes by covering themselves under the dense smoke cover.”

Chato revealed, “ISIS spilled oil on the roads, which affected the environment and health of the residents.”

“ISIS has completely damaged the infrastructure of the city and destroyed all the public buildings, as well as killed and abducted a dozen of residents,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that ISIS, so far, have burnt 11 oil wells out of 63 wells in Qayyarah while they retreated from the city.

ISIS executes 17 for desertion in Mosul

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Nineveh province announced on Saturday that ISIS has executed 17 of its own members in center of Mosul, some 405 km north of Baghdad.

Media official in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Ghyath Alsurja said, “ISIS executed, before noon today, 17 of its own members after they fled from Qayyarah battles, south of Mosul.”

“The sentence was carried out by firing squad in Bab Tob squad in the city center,” Alsurja added.

ISIS' ranks become 30 fewer in Homs

[ARA News] HOMS – Dozens of militant fighters have deserted the ranks of the extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria’s central Homs province, local sources reported on Saturday.

Three groups of militants, that have been sent by ISIS leadership to fight the Syrian army in Homs province, defected on Thursday.

“At least 30 jihadis deserted ISIS’ ranks. The dissidents used to fight in three ISIS-led brigades in Homs province,” local media activist Amro al-Hussein told ARA News.

The ISIS military leadership issued a statement accusing the dissidents of committing “high treason” against the Caliphate.

“The militants have evacuated their positions on Friday midnight and are believed to have escaped from Homs province to avoid arrest,” al-Hussein reported, citing an ISIS official.

The radical group considers anyone who deserts its ranks a traitor and usually executes them in public.

Earlier in August, ISIS arrested a number of its own militants for attempting dissidence in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province. At least eight ISIS militants were captured while trying to flee the group’s territory in Deir ez-Zor. “They were arrested after evacuating their headquarters without permission. They were captured while trying to escape Deir ez-Zor,” local media activist Samir al-Khalaf told ARA News.

“The ISIS-led Islamic Police has been pursuing the movements of its own members in the province after receiving information about the intention of some militants to defect,” al-Khalaf said, citing an ISIS official in Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria.

In July, the Islamic State (ISIS) executed seven of its own militants in Iraq’s northwestern Mosul city on charges of treason. The seven militants were accused of escaping the battlefront in the Sharqat district south of Mosul, where heavy fighting continued between ISIS and the Iraqi army.

“The Sharia Court accused them of high treason. They were subsequently executed in central Mosul amid the attendance of dozens of ISIS members as well as residents from the city,” media activist Munzir Hussein told ARA News in Mosul. “A Sharia official read a statement before the execution was conducted, saying those who flee the jihad fronts are enemies of Allah and unbelievers, and that they deserve death,” the source reported.

In early May, ISIS has executed eight of its own militants on charges of attempting dissidence in the city of Manbij in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo. Local activists confirmed that ISIS has executed its own militants for trying to desert the group’s ranks and flee to Turkey.

Speaking to ARA News in Manbij, media activist Nasser Taljbini said that ISIS militants who observe Syria-Turkey borderline near their areas of control have arrested several members of the group while trying to escape and cross the border into Turkey. Taljbini pointed out that a masked member from the Sharia Court in Manbij explained the reason behind executing the militants, saying “these are traitors for the Caliphate”.

In February, ISIS-linked border guards were able to capture an ISIS militant, a Tunisian national, along with his Chechen wife, in the city of Jarablus northern Syria, while trying to flee the group’s ranks to Turkey, according to local sources.

“ISIS border guards were able to capture the Tunisian militant and his wife near the Turkish border in the western suburbs of Jarablus before crossing border into Turkey,” media activist J.S., told ARA News at the time.

Hundreds of ISIS militants have deserted the group’s ranks recently, especially in Aleppo suburbs near the Turkish border.

1 dead in ISIS planted mines in Hasakah

[ARA News] HASAKAH – At least one civilian was killed and two others injured as a result of the explosion of leftovers of explosives planted by the Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province, the Kurdish police reported on Saturday.

“An ISIS landmine exploded in the town of Tel Hamis, causing three casualties from one family. A father died immediately and his two children were taken to the hospital after suffering from serious injuries,” Daham Ibrahim, an eyewitness on the incident, told ARA News from Tel Hamis in Hasakah province.

According to activists, unexploded devices are a daily threat to civilians in the areas liberated from ISIS extremists.

“The Asayish Forces warned people not to get close to explosives and report them immediately to the nearest office of Asayish security forces,” the Kurdish police –also known as Asayish in Kurdish– said in a statement.

“The unexploded devices and booby traps pose a daily threat to the people who are now trying to return home. This explosive pollution will make it impossible for people to reconstruct their lives, and blocks access to several areas. It also prevents humanitarian organizations from operating safely and providing the necessary support to this vulnerable population,” Frédéric Maio, Handicap International’s Mine Action Program Development Manager, said in an earlier statement.

In cooperation with allied SDF forces and with the support of the U.S.-led coalition, Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) have expelled ISIS from the Tel Hamis town in Hasakah countryside in early 2015.

ISIS attacks religious minority in Tikrit

[ARA News] ERBIL – The radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack that hit the Tuz Khurmatu district east of Iraq’s Tikrit province on Saturday, and caused casualties among the Kaka’i religious minority.

At least six civilians were killed and a dozen more injured when an ISIS jihadi detonated a car bomb in the Shah Sawan village of Tuz Khurmatu district. The targeted village is mainly populated by the Kaka’i religious minority.

ISIS released a statement saying one of its jihadis, known as Abu Bilal al-Iraqi, has carried out “a martyrdom operation targeting Kaka’i infidels”.

Extremists of the Islamic State group (ISIS) have vowed earlier this year to “pursue and kill” members of the Kaka’i religious group in northern Iraq, considering them “infidels who must be eliminated”.

The Kaka’i Kurds are one of several multi-ethnic groups who are part of the Yarsan or Ahl el-Haqq (people of truth), a religion founded by Sultan Sahak in the late 14th century in western Iran. Some Yarsanis in Iraq are called the Kaka’is.

The majority of the Kaka’is live in northern Mosul and other areas in Iraq, mainly in the Kurdistan Region, where they face eminent threat of annihilation at the hands of jihadi groups, similar to the Yezidi Kurds.

“ISIS militants have circulated statements and messages in the areas where the Kaka’is reside, threatening to kill them if hey did’t convert to Islam,” a local right’s activist told ARA News.

Speaking to ARA News in Erbil, Kaka’i media activist Zaradasht al-Kaki said their community is taking ISIS threats “very seriously”, pointing out that “the Kaka’is had earlier suffered several massacres at the hands of jihadis in Iraq”.

“We appeal to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces to protect the Kaka’is from these barbaric groups,” he said, warning of massacres smiliar to those suffered by the Yezidi Kurds.

The Yarsan adherents, estimated with 500,000 to 1,000,000, are primarily found in western Iran and eastern Iraq, they are mostly from the ethnic Goran Kurds, but include other smaller groups of Persian, Lori, Azeri and Arab adherents. The Yarsanis are also found in some rural communities in Turkey’s southeast where Kurds constitute a majority.

“We are a peaceful minority like the Yezidis, Christians, and other religious groups. Daesh calls us ‘apostates’ and must convert to Islam. We cannot live with these barbaric groups, who killed thousands of Yezidis and displaced hundreds of thousands more,” member of the Kaka’i community Dilo Cetin told ARA News, using another acronym for ISIS.

In August 2014, ISIS extremists had taken control of the Yezidi Shingal district in northern Iraq, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 people. Tens of thousands of Yezidi Kurds remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape at the hands of ISIS militants. Also, more than 3000 Yezidi girls have been taken by the radical group as sex slaves. The Kurdish Peshmerga troops regained control of the Yezidi Shingal region in November of 2015, after fierce battles against ISIS. The Kurdish forces have recently discovered more than five mass graves in the Yezidi region, where hundreds of Yezidi civilians have been summarily executed and buried by ISIS jihadis.

The Grand Turk
Turkey cleared ISIS from area in northern Syria
They claim a win in Islamic Whack-a-mole, Home Edition. A big round of applause. Aren't they great?
ANKARA: Turkey has swept Daesh and the Kurdish YPG militia from an area of northern Syria, but Syrian Kurdish forces have still not met a Turkish demand to withdraw to the east of the Euphrates river, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday.

Turkey launched a cross-border offensive into Syria last week, saying it had a dual aim of driving away radicals and ensuring Kurdish forces did not fill the void that was left by extending their control of territory along Turkey’s border.

Turkey is concerned that Syrian Kurdish fighters could embolden Kurdish militants waging an insurgency on its soil.

The US has been alarmed by Turkey’s offensive against Kurdish forces. US officials have urged Ankara to focus its attacks on Dash instead.

Erdogan said on Friday that the operation dubbed “Euphrates Shield” had been successful in clearing Daesh and Kurdish YPG from a 400 sq km area. But he dismissed claims that the Kurdish YPG, which Ankara calls a terrorist group, had withdrawn to a Kurdish-controlled canton to the east of the Euphrates River. The YPG says it has done so and US officials agree that is mostly the case.

“At the moment, they are saying the YPG has crossed,” Erdogan said. “We are saying no they didn’t. The proof depends on our own observation.” The Kurdish YPG is part of a broader US-backed coalition in Syria, called the Syrian Democratic Forces. Washington has supported the group in its battle against Daesh but Ankara sees it as an extension of the PKK, the outlawed Kurdish militant group in Turkey.

“Nobody can expect us to allow a terror corridor on our southern border,” Erdogan said, adding that said Turkey had sought the establishment of a “safe zone” in Syria, but said the idea had not received the backing of other world powers.

Regional Party Blamed for Presidential Vacancy in Lebanon: Hezbollah Minister
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Mohammad Fneish, accused on Saturday a regional party of being responsible for the obstruction and presidential vacuum in the country.

Fneish, who represents Hezbollah in the Lebanese cabinet, added that Leb was going through a severe political crisis titled "presidential vacuum," National News agency reported.

Hezbollah has repeatedly announced our stance to back the nomination of MP Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, stressing our intention to avoid this crisis, Fneish said during honorary ceremony for students who passed their academic year in Tyre.

"The main problem lies in a regional party which backs a political camp in Leb. Yet, this party has not given the green light to solve the Lebanese crisis," Fneish added.

Meanwhile,

4 suicide bombers die near Peshawar
[TheNation] PESHAWAR - Security forces Friday fended off four suicide bombers trying to attack a Christian colony on Warsak Road near Peshawar.

All four attackers (who were armed with suicide vests and hand grenades) were killed along with a guard at the entrance to the colony, an army statement said. Three other personnel sustained injuries during the retaliation.

According to police and ISPR, the thwarted attack came in the early hours, around 5:30am, 60 kilometres to the west of Mardan where a suicide bomber killed 14 people the same day.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attempt in Peshawar as well as the Mardan attacks, terming them a reaction to a press conference of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif.

The group has also said it was behind the attack on lawyers in Quetta on August 8 in which 73 people were killed, as well as the Lahore Easter bombing which killed 75 people in Pakistan's deadliest attack this year.

According to security sources, the four terrorists stormed the Christian colony killing the security guard on spot.

Investigators recovered Afghan SIMs from the mobile phones of the dead militants, through which they were taking directives from Afghanistan, security sources said.
SP Cantt Kashif Zulfiqar said that one of the attackers made a separate entry. He said three of them took refuge in an under-construction building in the colony upon being confronted by the paramilitary forces. All the four were later killed by the Quick Response Force, he added.

“We have enhanced security of Christian’s establishments, schools, hospitals, colonies and churches. Police has sensitised the administration regarding security alert. Schools security has also been beefed up,” he added.

The injured security personnel were taken to Lady Reading Hospital for treatment. They included two private security guards - Khud Ali and Najeem – while the third one was police constable Sajjad who was wounded seriously.

Red alert was declared in the cantonment area and army helicopter patrol the area to foil the escape of terrorists elements from the colony. House search operation was carried out in the area and personnel of Bomb Disposal Squad reached the site and defused the suicide vests.

Investigators recovered Afghan SIMs from the mobile phones of the dead militants, through which they were taking directives from Afghanistan, security sources said.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali, KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Provincial Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani and Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra condemned the Peshawar attack bid and appreciated security forces on their successful operation against terrorists.

Bloody past

TTP and its splinters routinely target minority groups and soft targets such as courts and schools. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered most from terrorism and Peshawar has always been a proffered target of the militants for its being capital of the province.

The worst attack in KP came in December 2014 when Taliban gunmen massacred more than 150 people, most of them children, at an army-run school in Peshawar. However, there was a pause in terrorist activities in Peshawar city since March, when terrorists targeted a passengers bus carrying government employees from Dargai area to Peshawar.

The army launched an operation in June 2014 in a bid to wipe out militant bases in the tribal areas and so bring an end to the bloody insurgency that has cost thousands of civilian lives since 2004.

Horrific ‘reminder’

Friday's attacks were "a horrific reminder that Pakistan's authorities must do more to ensure vulnerable groups are protected," said Amnesty International South Asia director Champa Patel.

"Armed groups are seeking to undermine the rule of law by targeting both the people who defend it in court and the people it should protect."

But Mir Quasem must face the consequences of the crimes he committed during the war, or the sacrifices of the Liberation War deaders would have been in vain, they said.

In an immediate reaction after the review rejection verdict, freedom fighter and journalist Nasir Uddin Chowdhury said: "I am relieved to see the death penalty being executed. Mir Quesem thought money could buy everything for him. He offered the witnesses money, and threatened to kill them when they refused to take it. We put up with a lot to see this day."

Freedom fighter Jahangir Chowdhury was one of the witnesses in the case ‐ he was held captive at Dalim Hotel in Chittagong, one of the torture cells set up by Mir Quasem’s al-Badr Bahini during the war.

Yemeni forces near route leading to Sanaa
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Yemeni army and its allies in the Popular Resistance committees on Saturday reached the outskirts ona route linking the capital Sanaa and Marib city after taking control of the mountains and highlands overlooking the region, military sources said.

The army and the committees - both loyal to the internationally recognized government of President Abedrabu Mansour Hadi - are trying to recapture Sanaa, still under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias.

The Houthis retained control over Sanaa after their attempted coup in September 2014.

Meanwhile in Taiz, the army and the committees defended their territories against an attack by the Houthis around the 35th Brigade, Madrat, al-Han Mount and al-Sayahi area west of the southwestern city.

Sources in the committees also reported a failed infiltration attempt by the Houthis into Sharaf Assalo, an area located south of Taiz.

The recent festivities led to the killing of 29 Houthis, while one pro-government fighter was killed, the sources said. At least 17 fighters from the pro-government camp were also injured.

Death of Houthi commanders

Sources also told Al Arabiya News Channel that an Arclight airstrike by Saudi-led Coalition has killed two Houthi field commanders, Aqeel Ali Ahmed Naji and Amin Faisal Moawad, in Shada in the province of Saada, bordering Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
on the northwest.

Local tribal sources confirmed that the coalition’s Arclight airstrike targeted Houthi military reinforcements in the bordering region.

Saudi Arabia and its mostly Gulf Arab allies intervened in Yemen’s civil war in March 2015 after the armed Houthi movement had pushed the Hadi administration into exile in Saudi Arabia.

Iraq
Christian militia in northern Iraq says it liberated ISIS-held village for first time
[RUDAW.NET] A Christian militia in northern Iraq said Saturday it had driven out Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) holy warriors from the ethnically Assyrian village of Badanah, ending a two-year occupation.

The Nineveh Plains Protection Units said on its Facebook page that the village, on the Khazer war front south of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, was liberated Thursday with air support by the US-led Coalition.

"Liberation of Badanah village in #Khazer axis by NPU warriors with the support of international coalition by Arclight airstrikes," the Facebook announcement said, adding that heavy and medium-sized weapons were used in the fight.

The NPU said this was its first military operation against ISIS to liberate their "traditionally Christian village," which was captured by the holy warriors when they stormed across Iraq in June 2014, capturing territories that included Mosul, the ISIS stronghold in Iraq ever since.

Pictures and videos published on the group’s Facebook page showed the liberation of the village and flags being waved by the holy warriors at dawn on Thursday.

The Nineveh plains, located mainly in the Nineveh province that includes Mosul, have been among the most volatile areas of Iraq, with a rich mixture of ethnic and religious groups.

Christian localities in the area have often been vulnerable amid the ongoing sectarian tensions that forced many of the families to leave their homes for the safety of the Kurdish-controlled territories or simply migrating to Europe.

Hundreds of Christian fighters have been trained by the Kurdish Peshmerga in the last two years and they have taken part in some frontline battles against the jihadists.

According to a Rudaw report published last June, around 1,000 Christian fighters in the Nineveh Plains have been undergoing military training, and asking Baghdad, Erbil and the international community for arms to liberate their territories from ISIS.

ISIS has suffered a series of setbacks in recent months, losing large swathes of territories that were under its control to the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi Army.

Iraqi authorities, including US military officials, say they expect to evict ISIS from its stronghold in Mosul this year.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey Launches New Attack Against ISIS, Kurds In Syria
[NEWSWEEK] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and its rebel allies opened a new line of attack in northern Syria on Saturday, as Turkish tanks rolled across the border and Syrian fighters swept in from the west to take villages held by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
myrmidon group (ISIS).

The incursion was launched by Turkey from Kilis province--an area frequently targeted by ISIS rockets--and coincided with a separate push by the Turkish-backed Syrian rebels, who seized several villages further to the east. By supporting the rebels, mainly Arabs and Turkmen fighting under the loose banner of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, Turkey is hoping to drive out ISIS bandidos murderous Moslems and check the advance of U.S.-backed Syrian Kurdish fighters.

The rebels last week took the frontier town of Jarablus with Turkish support. The operation, called Euphrates Shield, is Ankara's first full-scale Syrian incursion since the start of the five-year-old war.

On Saturday the tanks crossed the frontier and entered the Syrian rebel-controlled town of al-Rai to support the new offensive, a rebel front man and monitors said. al-Rai is about 55 km (34 miles) west of Jarablus, and part of a 90-km corridor near the Turkish border that Ankara says it is clearing of jihadists and protecting from Kurdish militia expansion.

The rebels then seized villages to the east and the south of al-Rai, according to one rebel official.

"They took several villages, about eight villages. At first they took two and withdrew from them, but then reinforcements came and there was an advance," Zakaria Malahifji of the Aleppo-based Fastaqim group told Rooters.

The Turkish-backed operation was putting pressure on ISIS from both east and west of a stretch of territory it controls along the border between the towns.
Al Manar adds:
At least 20 tanks, five armored personnel carriers, trucks and other armored vehicles crossed the border after noon, Dogan news agency said.

Turkish Firtina howitzers fired on ISIS targets as the fresh armored contingent advanced, Dogan said.

In the last few months, al-Rai has repeatedly changed hands between pro-Ankara faceless myrmidons and ISIS.

Ahmed Othman, a commander in pro-Turkey Lion of Islam group Sultan Murad, told AFP in Beirut that his group was now "working on two fronts in al-Rai, south and east, in order to advance towards the villages recently liberated from IS west of Jarablus".

Othman said it was the first phase of their plans. "We want to clear the border area between al-Rai and Jarablus from ISIS, before advancing south towards al-Bab (the last IS bastion in Aleppo) and Manbij (controlled by pro Kurdish forces)."

After the Kurds’ success in Manbij, they said they wanted to advance and link their other two ’cantons’ in northern Syria, Kobane and Afrin.

But President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said on Friday that Turkey would not allow the group to create a "terror corridor".

Ankara sees the YPG as a terror organization linked to Kurdish separatist rebels in southeast Turkey but the United States has provided training and equipment to the group.

The intervention last month caused another complication in what was already a tangled five-year civil war, with Ankara and Washington supporting different proxy groups seeking to retake territory from ISIS.
ARA News points out:
According to Syrian local activists, the Turkish army forces and allied rebel groups have taken Jarablus on 24 August without any resistance from ISIS.

“Turkey-backed rebels and the Turkish army captured the city of Jarablus from ISIS without a fight, which confirms that there are undeclared agreements between Turkey and ISIS,” Ali Battal, member of the Syrian National Democratic Union, told ARA News.

Subsequent to the Turkish advance in Jarablus, clashes erupted between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the pro-Turkey factions.

“After invading Jarablus city, Turkey tries to cut off the YPG-SDF supply routes in northern Syria and prevent those forces from eliminating ISIS terrorists,” Battal said.

Bangladesh
‘Mahfuz supplied grenades for Gulshan attack’
[Dhaka Tribune] Investigators have found that explosives expert Sohel Mahfuz alias Hat-kata Mahfuz, a big shot of the main JMB who later became part of the New JMB, was linked to the July 1 attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan

"We have information that Sohel Mahfuz supplied the grenades used by bandidos murderous Moslems in the Gulshan cafe attack," Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit chief Monirul Islam said yesterday.

CT unit sources say Mahfuz was a founding member of the JMB, which was formed in 1998 by former Jamaat leader and Ahle Hadith member Shayakh Abdur Rahman and declared banned in 2005. Abdur Rahman and some of his associates were hanged in 2007.

Mahfuz has expertise in making bombs. His left hand was blown off in a kaboom, but he can use a firearms with the other hand.

He is a relative of Gulshan attack’s operation commander Nurul Islam Marjan. In his student life, Mahfuz was a member of Islami Chhatra Shibir
... the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh...
, the radical student wing of Jamaat and later joined the JMB.

Hailing from Kushtia, Mahfuz declared himself its chief after the arrest of its second ameer Saidur Rahman in 2010 but it triggered conflict within the group. Later Mahfuz went to Burdwan of India and from there tried to raise a new faction of the JMB with the help of Maulana Abul Kashem, who later became its acting chief.

CT unit sources say Mahfuz fled to India and returned home a couple of years ago and started working with the New JMB faction, coordinated by Bangladeshi-born Canadian citizen Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury. He played a key role in supplying arms and bombs for its members.

Detectives could not confirm Mahfuz’s position in the outfit.

Monirul said Marjan was an important leader of the New JMB and a close aide of Tamim.

"More information can be found about the outfit if we can arrest Marjan."

He earlier said that they learnt about eight to nine more people who had been behind the Gulshan terror attack.

Africa Horn
AMISOM calls for aid to counter use of IEDs
Countering the ongoing threat to life and security caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Somalia, will require additional resources from international partners as well as increased cordon and search operations and training for AMISOM and Somali security personnel on counter IEDs measures, according to military experts.
Say, it would be nice to bring your forces into the 2016 era, wouldn't it...
The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has made an appeal for technical expertise and equipment to help counter the use of IED’s which have become the weapon of choice of the militant group Al-Shabaab. The appeal was made at a three-day seminar organized to raise awareness of the IED situation in Somalia, which ended Thursday. The participants representing AMISOM and Somali Police Force (SPF) met to learn about the devices and ways of countering their threat.

“I have engaged partners and friends on the necessities to enhance counter IED defeat measures. This is because some of the Troop Contributing Countries have limited capabilities that are inadequate to defeat the use of IEDs,” AMISOM Deputy Force Commander in charge of Support and Logistics, Nakibus Lakara, said during the closing ceremony of the workshop.

He noted that the militants were manufacturing bigger IEDs, some weighing more than 80 kilograms.

Maj. Gen. Lakara called for the strengthening of counter intelligence measures between AMISOM and its partners to effectively tackle the problem.

Speaking at the same event, Lt Col Geoff Minton, who represented the United Kingdom, said the United Kingdom will remain a major ally to the government of Somalia and AMISOM in countering the use of the deadly devices.

“We are looking forward to working with more SNA (Somali National Army) officers and a greater Federal Government of Somalia participation in future to increase their understanding of IED threats and to start planning for capabilities they would need in order to play their part in countering IEDs,” Lt Col Minton observed.

Captain Asad Abdalle Said from the Somali Police Force thanked the organizers and said he would use the skills learned to educate his colleagues on tackling IEDs.

“We have benefited a lot from the seminar, for example, learning how to counter IEDs, controlled explosion techniques and also defusing the devices. I am hoping to pass the skills to my colleagues in the Somali Police Force so that they can save lives of Somalis,” he said.

The seminar was organized by the AMISOM Mission Enabling Unit, supported by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) and funded by the United Kingdom Mission Support Team (UK MST).

Caribbean-Latin America
Venezuelan President Is Chased by Angry Protesters
Reasonably honest reporting by the NYT. But they don't mention why Venezuela is such a mess. Must be a lot of that "bad luck" going around.
CARACAS, Venezuela -- President Nicolás Maduro was chased at a routine political event by a crowd of angry protesters banging on pots and yelling that they were hungry, just days after thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets to call for his ouster, local news media reported on Saturday.

Scenes from the confrontation late Friday, which also appeared in videos uploaded to social media, captured the attention of Venezuelans, many of whom blame the unpopular president for the country’s food shortages.

In one video, Mr. Maduro tries to calm the pot-bangers by walking among them, only to be surrounded as the furious crowd yells obscenities.

“What is this?” an astounded voice behind the camera asks in one of the video clips.

Mr. Maduro had traveled from the capital, Caracas, to Margarita Island off Venezuela’s northern coast to inaugurate a number of new public housing units and give a televised address. During the speech, he denounced his opponents’ calls for his removal from office, calling them “vampires” and saying they were preparing for violence.

Foro Penal, a Venezuelan human rights group, said 20 people had been arrested after the protest in the island town of Villa Rosa. Mr. Maduro’s office made no statement about the episode.

Venezuelan politicians wasted little time on Saturday in using the confrontation to advance their agendas.

“The people of Villa Rosa in Margarita have no fear,” wrote Henrique Capriles, an opposition governor who lost to Mr. Maduro in the presidential election in 2013. “Through banging pots, Maduro was run out of town.”

Pedro Carvajalino, a pro-government television anchorman, said the protesters had been sent by Mr. Capriles and other members of the opposition.

“It was a lack of respect to presidential dignity,” Mr. Carvajalino said.
If you want lack of respect for presidential dignity, come to the U.S.: we've been doing that for decades...
On Thursday, Mr. Maduro’s political opponents organized a mass protest in the capital, a gathering they called “the taking of Caracas.” It was the largest protest this year as many thousands descended on the capital from around the country, chanting, singing and venting frustration with the country’s chronic shortages, most critically of food.

The organizers are trying to use rising anger against the president to propel an effort to recall him from office by means of a popular referendum. If the referendum happens this year and Mr. Maduro loses, Venezuelans will have the opportunity to elect a new president. But the government, which is responsible for organizing such a vote, wishes to hold it next year. If Mr. Maduro loses in 2017, the leftist vice president will serve what is left of his six-year term.

Polls show that Mr. Maduro would be likely to lose a referendum.

The confrontation in Villa Rosa suggests that the tide may have turned in an area that once supported the president. It voted for Mr. Maduro and his predecessor and mentor, Hugo Chávez, in previous elections by significant margins.

#1  "Venezuelan President is chased by angry protesters." "Chasing leaders" could happen here. Are they armed with pitchforks yet? Another failed example of socialism. It has not worked anywhere. However, there is always some elitist group of neosocialists who think they are smarter than the last group of socialists.

Is Mugabe dying?
African leader's plane diverted but aides refuse to answer health fears

FLIGHT trackers recording the movements of Robert Mugabe’s plane have shown it make a sharp turn towards Dubai midway through a flight to Singapore.

The Zimbabwean president, 92, is known to fly to the Far East for medical treatment due to his country’s ailing healthcare system.

However, an explanation as to why the Air Zimbabwe plane diverted unexpectedly to the Middle East in the early hours of Wednesday morning, not not been given. The jet had taken off from Harare for Singapore at 10.45pm on Tuesday.

Speculation mounted when government officials refused to reveal why Mugabe's jet had visited Dubai. His spokesperson George Charamana said: "Each time you people don’t know the purpose of the President’s visit, there is always a default explanation that he is ill.

“So the life of the President springs between a known mission and illness. If I don’t tell you the purpose, it should be illness.

“I will not give you the purpose of the President’s visit to run away from the default explanation. This is not new.

"It is year in, year out, he is sick, he dies and resurrects. His life until the age of 92 revolves around illness and death.”

Mugabe, Africa's oldest leader has been the president of the African nation since 1987 having been prime minister since the country gained independence from Britain in 1980.

The nation adopted the US dollar last year after rampant inflation wrecked finances. At one point the inflationary figure ran at almost 80 BILLION per cent.

His critics say he has presided over the destruction of a once-promising country with policies such as the seizures of white-owned farms. But Mugabe's ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front party blames foreign powers for sabotaging the economy with sanctions.

#2  Is Mugabe dying?

From your lips to God's ears. I wouldn't cheer too soon for the poor people of Zimbabwe, however - as soon as ol' Bob's in the cold, cold ground there will probably be a dozen or so people claiming to be the True Heirs, and with the guns to make their arguments.
