Thirteen people were killed in Chicago over the long Labor Day weekend, bringing the city's 2016 death toll to over 500.
The Labor Day weekend murders come after police recorded 92 murders in August, the deadliest month for Chicago since June 1993. With murders up roughly 50% for the year, Chicago has tallied more homicides than the much larger cities of New York and Los Angeles combined.
The city is on pace to record well over 600 murders for 2016, a threshold it has not reached since 2003. Chicago regularly recorded more than 700 murders a year in the 1990s as gang violence, driven by the crack-cocaine epidemic, raged.
The most recent shooting took place on Monday night when someone driving a silver minivan opened fire on a group of teens and young men, leaving two 22-year-olds dead and a 16-, 17-, and 20-year-old seriously wounded. According to police, one of the men killed was a gang member.
[NYT] The body of an activist from St. Louis who led protests about the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., in 2014 was found with a gunshot wound in the charred remains of a vehicle on Tuesday morning, according to the police and news accounts.
The activist, Darren Seals, 29, was found inside the vehicle on Diamond Drive in Riverview in St. Louis County around 1:50 a.m., the St. Louis County Police Department said in a statement. The vehicle had been on fire and he was found after the flames were extinguished.
The police said Mr. Seals had lived at an address on Millburn Drive in St. Louis, about 12 miles from where his body was found. The case is being investigated as a homicide by the department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons. The motive for the killing was unknown.
The police identified Mr. Seals as Daren Seals, although other records listed the spelling of his first name as Darren, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
On his Twitter account, Mr. Seals described himself as a businessman, revolutionary, activist and "Unapologetically BLACK, Afrikan in AmeriKKKa, Fighter, Leader."
He helped lead protests after Mr. Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed on Aug. 9, 2014, by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis.
The shooting prompted protests that roiled the area for weeks. On Nov. 24, 2014, the St. Louis County prosecutor announced that a grand jury had decided not to indict Mr. Wilson. That announcement set off another wave of protests.
In an interview with MTV.com, Mr. Seals described the night the grand jury announcement was made. He said he was with Mr. Brown’s mother and some friends outside the Ferguson Police Department.
He said the decision not to indict the officer was "the ultimate slap in the face."
"And for Mike Brown’s mother to be right there in my arms crying -- she literally cried in my arms -- it was like I felt her soul crying," he said. "It’s a different type of crying. I’ve seen people crying, but she was really hurt. And it hurt me. It hurt all of us."
Mr. Seals led protests with the group Hands Up United, which was organizing a campaign called Polls Ova Police, which sought to use this year’s elections to challenge police policies.
"The broken systems and policies that police enforce must be challenged," the project said on its website. "We will not vote in favor of any candidate partnering with those who are not fighting for Black life. Polls Ova Police is the war cry of this generation."
On Twitter, supporters paid tribute to Mr. Seals on Tuesday:

ISIS has outlawed the burka at their security centres in a northern Iraqi city, despite previously brutally enforcing a law requiring them to be worn.
The terror group have banned women entering the buildings in Mosul while wearing the full-face covering after a number of commanders were killed by veiled women.
Previously women in Syria and Iraq have been beaten or even killed by ISIS's 'morality police' for not wearing a veil to conceal their body and eyes.

going on a loooong trip and don't wanna stop for gas? Wearing diapers? Former Astronut Lisa Nowak? So many questions
PARIS (AyeePeee) ‐ Two people were in custody Wednesday after a car parked near Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was found with seven gas canisters inside, and its license plates removed.
An employee of a nearby bar flagged the car discovered Sunday morning along the Seine River with its hazard lights on, according to two French officials. No one was inside, but police found six canisters filled with gas in the trunk and an empty canister in the car.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation, said the car's owner and another person were taken into custody. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said it still was not clear why the car was abandoned.
BLUF: Car's owner, now in custody, is on watchlist of suspected religious radicals, disappeared with her boyfriend, caught heading to Spain. Test run? No explosives or detonator. Arabic documents found in the car. Police raids picked up several others, but only the car owner and her boyfriend arrested.
It being The Daily Mail, there will no doubt be updates as new information comes in, so check the source later.

...Back in 1960, 24 percent of all American workers worked in manufacturing. Today, that number has shriveled all the way down to just 8 percent.
...No wonder the middle class is shrinking so rapidly. There aren’t too many cooks, waiters or retail salespersons that can support a middle class family.
...At this point, the total number of government employees in the United States exceeds the total number of manufacturing employees by almost 10 million
...You might be thinking that government jobs are "good jobs", but the truth is that they don’t produce wealth. Government employees are really good at pushing paper around and telling other people what to do, but in most instances they don’t actually make anything.
In order to have a sustainable economy, you have got to have people creating and producing things of value. A debt-based paper economy may seem to work for a while, but eventually the whole thing inevitably comes crashing down when faith in the paper is lost.

While competition is part of the cause increased productitity is another. The increase in goverment jobs imo is due to two things. Increased regulation and empire building in agencies.
* printing money without backing creates inflation which is just another taking/taxing by government. I remember when they made whole copper pennies and silver dimes and quarters.

Of course the service based economy also depresses wages because so little skill is needed to shuffle papers and sack groceries.
Back when the libs were floating the idea of a service based economy rather than a nasty old smoke stack economy, many economists said it was a bad idea. It still is. Without manufacturing to require skills in math and science, there is no incentive to emphasize that in school, and you then get all of the soft curriculums for various ethnic studies and other nonsense in colleges rather than engineering, chemistry, and physics. There is just so many business admin and finance majors that the economy can absorb.
[SultanKnish] America's terrorist shortage may be reaching an end. If Orlando didn't satisfy you and San Bernardino left you wanting more. The land of Washington, Jefferson and Mohammed Atta has reached a new milestone by taking in Syrian refugee number 10,000. It’s unknown if the TSA will shower him with balloons and confetti once he passes the gate while clutching a Koran and a copy of the Caliphate Cookbook.
Either way we hit the big explosive ten thousand. And the clock is ticking.
Media outlets are puffing out sympathetic portrayals of the oppressed Syrians moving into some neighborhood near you, and far from the bosses behind the major media outlets. All these folks fleeing the violence of their own religion want is a safe place to live. And safe inevitably means non-Islamic.
There’s an obvious lesson here that neither they nor our expertly chattering classes seem able to grasp.
But a few years from now there will be bodies and the killer will have the same last name as one of those oppressed refugees who weren’t looking to be safe, but to make us unsafe.

...The upshot is that despite the turmoil of the last several months, it is now eminently possible that Britain will show a higher rate of growth in the post-Brexit third quarter than the Eurozone. Few if any would have predicted such an outcome.
The British economy sails on as if nothing has happened, but the European one continues to stagnate. It is as if the Brexit shock has been more powerfully felt in Europe than in Britain. Both France and Italy showed no growth at all in the second quarter, and now even the data from Germany is starting to look poor.

One of the pro-Bexit guys made a great case saying that currently there is no trade deal with such and such a country because that country sells something in competition with Italy who sells something similar. Now free of the requirements of a dozen countries Britain can cut a deal directly with that country (and presumably many others).
A common market helps the transfer of good within, makes it a necessity for folks to sell within, and also makes it easy for protectionist policies.

Narcolepsy is sometimes misdiagnosed as restless leg syndrome... But sleep apnea (loud snoring) is also a sleep disorder. Narcolepsy is treated with sleep medication, apnea by wearing a breathing mask at night; neither requires constant companionship, let alone a doctor hovering within reach.

Cough may indicate dysphagia. That means swallowing difficulties, including her own saliva.
Problems with balance and gait? Head injuries can cause that too.

[Wash Times] As tensions rise on the Korean Peninsula due to North Korean nuclear tests, missile launches and South Korean military exercises with U.S. forces, a source says the North Korean military has started to arm certain North Korean soldiers with nuclear backpacks. The report cannot be independently verified but fits within a pattern of North Korean escalation to achieve its political goals, reports Radio Free Asia.
Special units have been formed since March to carry the weapons and had been taking part in simulated training exercises with dummy bombs. "Outstanding soldiers were selected from each reconnaissance platoon and light infantry brigade to form the nuclear backpack unit the size of a battalion," the source from North Hamgyong province was quoted as saying.
The supposed weapons were said to weigh between 10 and 30 kilograms and be able to "spray radioactive material," possibly uranium, on the enemy. North Korean propaganda showed soldiers wearing rucksacks bearing a yellow and black radiation symbol during a parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the national Workers’ Party in October, while similar backpacks were seen at a procession in 2013.
These reports come as North Korea announced it had executed a senior official for "showing disrespect." Apparently North Korean Kim Jong-un did not like the way the man was sitting at a recent event and gave the order to have him killed by firing squad.

10-30 kilos would probably not include a lot of 'shielding'.
So we can be on the lookout for folks with backpacks that seem to have skin and limbs sloughing off due to extreme exposure with radioactive materials?

[FreeBeacon] Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton turned away a high-ranking Chinese defector who sought political asylum after the communist police chief sought refuge in a U.S. consulate in southwestern China four years ago.
Critics say Clinton's handling of the defection of Wang Lijun, a close aide to a regional Communist Party leader, was a blunder and lost opportunity for U.S. intelligence to gain secrets about the leaders of America's emerging Asian adversary.
Instead of sheltering Wang and granting him political asylum, Clinton agreed to turn him over to Chinese authorities in Beijing, and claimed he was not qualified for American sanctuary because of his past role as a police chief accused of corruption.
However, the defector’s case highlights Clinton's policy of seeking to preserve U.S. ties with China's communist leadership instead of pursuing much-needed intelligence gathering on China at a time when Beijing is emerging as an increasingly threatening power.
Clinton defended the betrayal of Wang in her 2014 memoir, Hard Choices. The former secretary and current Democratic presidential nominee revealed in the book that the U.S. government agreed to keep secret all details of Wang’s sensational defection attempt in order to help Beijing's Communist rulers avoid public embarrassment over a major internal power struggle and high-level corruption scandal months ahead of then-Chinese leader Hu Jintao's transfer of power to current supreme leader Xi Jinping.
Details of the mishandling of the Wang defection have been kept secret by the Obama administration, and Clinton's version of events were contradicted by U.S. officials and the official Chinese account. Instead of gaining long-term access to a valuable defector with inside knowledge of Chinese strategy and policies, Clinton contacted the Chinese government in Beijing and allowed security officials to take Wang into custody outside the U.S. consulate some 30 hours after he entered the property in a daring bid to flee China for the United States.

I remember when that happened. That was some serious bullshit. He turned up at the US consulate in Chengdu and they just hung him out to dry. Now I know who did it.

Do Americans want centralized wide-spread voter fraud controlled by Washington or do they want decentralized localized voter fraud that might be limited? DHS handles border control, TSA, passports, immigration, federal emergency management and a number of other things. The Department of Homeland Security has received substantial criticism over excessive bureaucracy, waste, fraud, ineffectiveness and lack of transparency. Its information sharing centers have been accused of violating American civil liberties and targeting American citizens as potential threats to national security. [Daily Caller] Seven Iranian fast-attack boats forced a U.S. Navy patrol ship to change course after harassing it in the Persian Gulf, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
The USS Firebolt was interdicted by boats belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a fanatic Iranian paramilitary wing. Three of the boats "maneuvered close to the ship, shadowing her course from a range of about 500 yards," U.S. Navy Capt. Jeff Davis told reporters. One of the boats later ran ahead of the Firebolt, turned around and sped straight toward the ship before stopping directly in front of it.
"This caused the Firebolt to have to maneuver to have to avoid collision. They came within about 100 yards of each other during the interaction. The Firebolt attempted multiple radio communications with the Iranians," explained Davis.
The Firebolt was operating legally in international waters at the time of the incident, according to the Pentagon.

Perhaps the Pentagon might want to review the plans used in the 19 April 1988 U.S. strike that destroyed six Iranian warships and two Iranian oil installations.
Yup. And my guess is that we will get there sometime before Obumble leaves office.
There will be a series of steadily-escalating feints such as this one, until finally one is no feint: one of our naval vessels will either be stopped and boarded, or seriously damaged, or even sunk.
The ragheads are spoiling for yet another confrontation that will allow them to once again shout "Allahu Ahkbar!!" and demonstrate that Uncle Sam is a paper tiger.
And Obumble will be happy to oblige.
Jimmy Carter should have nuked the crazy little fuckheads on November 5, 1979, after first giving them 24 hours to release the embassy hostages unharmed. Had he done so, we very likely would have been spared all of the Muzzie bullshit we've been subjected to in the last 37 years.
But that would have required a VERY different Jimmy Carter...

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has finally won the upper hand in southern Aleppo as Islamist defenses have gradually fallen apart, resulting in over 200 krazed killer casualties.
Next up, the SAA hopes to retake Aleppo’s Ramouseh district and outskirt towns such as Khan Touman. If these fall into government hands, the SAA will gradually tighten the noose around rebel-held districts in eastern Aleppo, ultimately leading to the liberation of Syria’s largest city.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani troops and Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) exchanged fire across the Line of Control (LoC) on Defence Day, Inter-Services Public Relations said.
ISPR said Indian troops resorted to "unprovoked firing" in the Nezapir sector around midnight on Monday. Firing continued until 10am Tuesday morning, the statement said.
No casualties have been reported so far on either side of the working boundary.
Pakistani troops issued a 'befitting response' to the BSF's 'unprovoked firing', the ISPR said.
Despite a 2003 border ceasefire agreement signed by both countries, cross-border firing along the working boundary is intermittent with both parties frequently accusing the other of breaching it.
A ceasefire violation was also reported on Aug 14 as troops exchanged fire on Pakistan's Independence Day.
[Bangkok Post] A bomb blast killed a man and his 5-year-old daughter as they arrived at her school, and injured eight other people in Narathiwat province on Tuesday morning. In Pattani province, a bomb concealed at a resting place used by security teams blew up, injuring a volunteer ranger on teacher proection duty.
Security officials said the Narathiwat bomb was detonated when parents were delivering their children to school in Tak Bai district. Ten people - four policemen, teachers and parents - were injured.
Military spokesman Pramote Phrom-in condemned the attack at a school as inhumane. He also criticized non-government organizations who were accusing the government of violating suspects' rights, but not taking a stand to protect victims of the violence.
Authorities in Narathiwat said later the bomb was placed on a motorcycle parked in front of a shop across from the primary school. The motorcycle was stolen when the owner was murdered on June 19.
Cdr Krisana Yuansa-ard, commander of a special unit in Narathiwat, blamed an militant group led by Romli Jehyi for the attack. Security officials had monitored its movements but did not expect it to attack the school while pupils were arriving there.
In Pattani, a ranger volunteer on teacher security detail was injured by a bomb blast at a roadside shelter in Panare district on Tuesday morning. The shelter, on the edge of a field beside the road, is often used as a rest stop by security teams. The bomb exploded when a teacher escort team arrived there.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Yemeni Army’s Rocket Battalion landed a direct hit on the ’Ayn al-Harrah Military Camp in the Jizan Region tonight, killing over 30 Saudi soldiers after a ballistic missile hit this military installation.
According to the Yemeni Republican Guard’s media wing, the Rocket Battalion fired a Qahir-1 Tochka Ballistic Missile into the Jizan Region of Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... tonight, causing severe damage to the Saudi Army camp.
This missile strike tonight was conducted by the Yemeni Army’s Rocket Battalion in response to the Saudi Air Force’s merciless Arclight airstrikes over the Houthi-controlled Hajja, Saada, and Saana governorates that killed several civilians.
The fighting in the Jizan Region of Saudi Arabia has recently intensified, as the Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... forces and Yemeni Republican Guard continue to advance north amid weak resistance from the Saudi Army.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Wife of a head in charge of ISIS prisons of the hard boy group in Iraq was found dead in a town north of Salah al-Din province amid reports saying that she escaped with her lover the day before, local media said Tuesday.
"Wife of ISIS prisons’ head in al-Shirqat known as Abu Mansour was found dead. Her body was dumped on the side of a country road outside [Al-Shirqat] the town a day after her escape," the source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told the Arabic-language website al-Sumaria satellite station.
The source added that "bullets were found in the corpse."
Al-Shirqat, located southeast of djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... city, is under ISIS occupation.
The source said that "there are semi-confirmed information that the slain woman has escaped with her lover the day before her killing," describing the lover "as the younger brother of Abu Mansour whose whereabouts are still unknown."
Another local news agency, Buratha News said a "scandal has rocked ISIS circles and drove the ISIS head of prisons to avoid the public," citing another anonymous source.
"There are speculations that Abu Mansour has run after the two to seek Dire Revenge," the source added.
Iraq’s Defense Ministry, meanwhile, said on Tuesday that the reason behind the delay to liberate al-Shiqat was to allow more civilians to flee the town. Getting rid of ISIS in al-Shirqat is a prelude to the Mosul offensive, which will see Iraqi forces backed by the US-led Coalition forces attempting to defeat the hard boy group which seized the country’s second largest city in June 2014.

[DAWN] Army Chief General Raheel Sharif ..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all.... on Tuesday reiterated the military's resolve to not let the "sacrifices of deaders go to waste" and asserted that "the defence of Pakistain is invincible".
Just like the punishment of East Pakistan, back in the day. Do remind us, Chief General, what happened to those provinces?
Gen Raheel was addressing the ceremony held at General Headquarters to mark the country's Defence Day.

"It is also necessary for the elimination of terror to strengthen our laws," reiterated the army chief.
"I want to make it clear to all the enemies that the defence of Pakistain already strong but now it has become invincible," said the chief of army staff.
He added that North Wazoo had become a safe haven for terrorists, but the army has successfully achieved the goals of Zarb-e-Azb ..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)... .
"In the battle for our survival, we will take every step according to the teaching of Allah and His Prophet (PTUI!)."
"We know how to make friends, but we also know how to payback our enemies," maintained General Raheel. "There are elements which are trying to create misunderstandings."

[Guardian] A new drug that "wakes up" the immune system to attack cancer has extended the lives of people with metastatic pancreatic cancer and has no side-effects, raising hopes for a new and powerful tool against the most intractable form of the disease.
The drug, IMM-101, is considered groundbreaking because pancreatic cancer that has spread to other parts of the body usually kills within a few months.
New immunotherapy drug IMM-101 brings fresh hope for the effective treatment of serious cancers. Unlike other immunotherapy treatments, IMM-101 is not thought to have any side-effects,
...hah...
which have been hugely debilitating for many patients and even led to long-term disability in some cases.
The patients who were given the new immunotherapy drug actually felt better than those who were on standard chemotherapy, said Angus Dalgleish, professor of oncology at St George’s, University of London, who led the research.
Dalgleish is excited by the potential of the immunotherapy drug, although the trial is relatively small, involving 110 people. Only 18% of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer are alive after one year and 4% after five years, so new treatments for the disease are badly needed.
#2
If it affects the immune system - it will have side effects.
Why?
Cancers exist, because they can fool or bypass the bodies immune system. There are several drugs in development that enhance or potentiate the immune system against cancers and look hugely promising.
#3
There's no short answer phil_b. But they tried manipulating immune responses with drugs/interleukins before - and it always blows up. Kinda like trying to change a book by substituting a letter "e" for the letter "a" through it.
#5
If it affects the immune system - it will have side effects.
As I understand it, it is now thought that the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome that does not have another cause (things like thyroid deficiency, anemia, or a sleep disorder, along with an ever-lengthening list of possibilities to test for before concluding with the CFS diagnosis) is immune system burn-out after an infection. If that is indeed the case, they may cure the cancer, only to leave the patient a chronic semi-invalid awaiting a different medical breakthrough.
#6
All these "miracle drugs" are b*llshit anyway. If they'd brains G*d gave to birds, they'd take dendritic cells from a patient. Grow them in vitro. Prime them with the desired antigen, and inject them back. The methodology was developed decades ago.
#8
Oh, there's plenty of money in that. Of course you have to solve several tech problems first - but these are problems we'll have to solve anyway because of the spread of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria.
A sample of 110 people.
without any toxic effects
That’s never been seen before
Dalgleish is excited by the potential of the immunotherapy drug, although the trial is relatively small, involving 110 people.
...
Most importantly, the drug worked on the immune system without any toxic effects. “That’s never been seen before,” he said. “You always add toxicity and misery in my experience with each additional thing you put in.”
At least 4 people have been killed, several others hurt in a blast in Mogadishu on Tuesday, latest in string of attacks in the seaside capital, reports said.
The explosion occurred at a busy teashop in Mogadishu’s Bakaro market, targeting local police officers, according to a witness who spoke to Radio Shabelle. A mother and her daughter were among the dead. No information on weather soldiers were killed or wounded in the attack at the teashop in Bakaro market.
On Monday night, a bomb at similar teashop at Towfiq junction has wounded three people. No group has claimed credit for both bombings in Mogadishu.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Lebanese and Syrian armies simultaneously targeted the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) in the Qalamoun Mountains on Tuesday, killing a large number of their terrorist combatants that were attempting to illegally cross the border.
The Lebanese Army began shelling the Islamic State forces of Evil inside Wadi al-Hawa, while the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) monitored the terrorist group’s movements along the Jaroud Jarajeer border-crossing.
Not long after the Lebanese Army began their attack, the Syrian Arab Army launched their own assault from Jarajeer, hitting Islamic State target within Leb’s Beqa’a Governorate.
The Syrian Arab Army has since ceased their assault after the Islamic State forces of Evil pulled away from the border-crossing; however, the Lebanese Army is engaged in heavy combat with the terrorist forces.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] La Belle France said on Tuesday it was deploying artillery to Iraq and readying its aircraft carrier for deployment to reinforce foreign military support for the Iraqi army’s expected push to recapture djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... , the de facto capital of ISIS in Iraq.
The Iraqi army and its elite units have gradually taken up positions around the city 400 km (248 miles) north of Baghdad, with international coalition forces keen to capitalize on the holy warrior group’s loss of territory in both Iraq and Syria.
"We decided to bolster our support of the Iraqi forces this Autumn with the aim of recapturing Mosul," French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told a gathering of defense and military officials in Gay Paree.
"At this very moment, artillery is arriving close to the front line," Le Drian said, adding that the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier would soon leave for the Middle East.
French defense officials declined to give details on the nature of the artillery.
It was from Mosul’s Grand Mosque in 2014 that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdad declared a caliphate spanning regions of Iraq and Syria.

[IsraelTimes] Separately, soldiers arrest 6 Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, operatives in the West Bank, seize a weapons cache containing explosives
Paleostinian in northern Gazoo fired across the border at Israeli soldiers overnight Monday, the army said, in the latest in a series of cross-border skirmishes.
In response, tanks fired at two Hamas posts in Gazoo, the IDF said in a statement. Paleostinian media sources reported the targets were buildings belonging to the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing.
No injuries were reported on either side.
In a separate operation, IDF troops tossed in the slammer Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! six alleged Hamas operatives throughout the West Bank and seized a weapons cache containing explosives in the village of Surif, north of Hebron.
The shots fired from Gazoo are the latest in a series of minor festivities between Gazoo based groups and the IDF. Two days ago a similar incident occurred at the same site.
[ALMASDARNEWS] After several failed assaults on Ma’an and the neighboring Karah village, jihadists from the Jund al-Aqsa terrorist group and their allied Free Syrian Army ... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund... renewed their assault on the aforementioned villages.
Unfortunately for them, the local NDF and Syrian Army units were well-prepared for the assault. Three Lion of Islam tanks and four armored vehicles were destroyed in the failed assault. Moreover, over 30 jihadists were killed while dozens more were maimed.
Adding insult to injury, Syrian Army units managed to recapture Batish and the western neighborhood of Ma’ardasmnorth of Mt. Arbaeen. So far, this offensive has begun to prove real costly for the jihadists who are currently attempting to fortify the towns they seized almost a week ago.

Members of the Baghlan provincial council on Tuesday raised concerns over ongoing threats by the Taliban against some strategic highways in the northern Baghlan province.
Amid rising violence by the Taliban in the area, council members have said there is an urgent need for government to take more comprehensive security measures to curb the problem.
"The lack of government concentration and in general the negligence of local government have paved the way for the Taliban to launch attacks on Kabul-Baghlan, Kunduz-Baghlan and Mazar-e-Sharif-Kunduz highways. So far up to ten civilians have been wounded as a result of these violent incidents," said Mohamamd Zarif Zarif, a member of the Baghlan provincial council.
In addition, council members accused the local administration of withholding information from the people. They said despite the fact the Taliban is threatening the lives of motorists and passengers, the local administration is reluctant to stop them from traveling on the roads when clashes are underway between security forces and insurgents.
"We live like hostages; roads towards Kunduz are blocked and there is no security on the route toward Mazar-e-Sharif. War also going on towards Kabul. If they (government officials) cannot secure the people, then they must step down," said Nadira Nahrinwal, a civil society activist.
Reports from the volatile region indicate that hardliners associated with the Taliban have been disrupting life for people in the town of Kela Gali in Doshi district - where at least one civilian was killed amid the recent spate of violent acts by the Taliban.
"We were working as daily laborers here. Now, neither the Taliban nor government let us work, Taliban shoot from one side and the government from the other," said a resident of Kela Gai, Sher Ahmad.
Amid widespread clashes by the Taliban, some motorists and passengers from Baghlan have asked government to take steps to improve the security.
"People are faced with enormous problems. The government is really weak at addressing the issue, we call on officials to take steps and reopen the highway so that the Taliban can no longer pose threats to the people," said Abdullah, a Baghlan resident.
Meanwhile, Baghlan provincial council officials have asked the local administration and security forces to stop motorists from using the highways while clashes are underway.
The provincial council warned that the Taliban has managed to advance close to the provincial capital of Pul-e-Khumri. It called on government in Kabul to break its silence and improve security.
The new development takes place just a few months after the hardline movement made a fresh attempt to gain swathes of territory across Afghanistan's northern regions.
North Korean leader Suet Face Kim Jong-un on Monday called for continued nuclear weapons development after watching three ballistic missiles being fired into the East Sea.
Pudgy Kim "stressed the need to continue making miraculous achievements in bolstering up the nuclear force one after another in this historic year," the [North] Korean Central News Agency said Tuesday.
The missiles that were fired Monday seem to be an improved version of the Rodong with a slightly differently shaped warhead.
"They had warheads that looked like cones," a military source here said.
The North Korean media published images showing that the three missiles were fired simultaneously.
The missiles were fired as world leaders met for the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China and flew about 1,000 km before dropping into the sea, apparently in a bid for attention just after the leaders of China and South Korea sat down face to face.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council in an emergency meeting on Tuesday discussed a response to the latest missile launch. The launch came only 10 days after a UNSC press statement condemning the North's frantic missile volleys over the past months.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A suspected chlorine gas attack on an opposition-held neighborhood in the Syrian city of Aleppo caused dozens of cases of suffocation on Tuesday, rescue workers and a monitoring group said.
The Syrian Civil Defense, a rescue workers’ organization that operates in rebel-held areas, said government helicopters had dropped barrel bombs containing chlorine on the Sukari neighborhood in eastern Aleppo.
The Syrian government has denied previous accusations it used chemical weapons during the five-year-old civil war. The Syrian army could not be immediately reached for comment on the latest allegations.
The Civil Defense said on its Facebook page that 80 people had suffocated. It reported no deaths. It posted a video showing wheezing children doused in water using oxygen masks to breathe.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks Syrian violence using sources on the ground, said medical sources had reported 70 cases of suffocation.
A United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... and Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons inquiry seen by Rooters last month found that Syrian government forces were responsible for two toxic gas attacks in 2014 and 2015 involving chlorine.

Saudi Arabia spends 25% of its national budget on the military. (Nearly $100 billion annually). Its army totals about 300,000 men, but its fighting ability is very limited. In its war in Yemen it depends on artillery and aircraft to do its fighting,, and while the airforce can destroy the Houthi homeland it seems powerless to staunch the Houthi invasions of Jizan.

The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful... (Army of Islam) launched a wide-scale offensive in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Tuesday, targeting the key town of al-Bahariyah, which is currently under the Syrian Arab Army’s control.
The Islamist rebel group began their assault by storming the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at al-Bahariyah’s northern flank; this resulted in a series of intense festivities that last for most of the day.
However, the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything... despite their best efforts at al-Bahariyah, Jaish al-Islam was unable to penetrate the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at this East Ghouta town.
According to a military source in Damascus, Jaish al-Islam lost over 10 combatants during their failed assault on al-Bahariyah; meanwhile, the Syrian Armed Forces only reported 2 casualties.

HASAKAH – Warplanes of the US-led international coalition launched a new wave of airstrikes in Syria, targeting oil resources of the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group, officials and local sources reported on Tuesday.
In Raqqa, the ISIS de facto capital in Syria, the coalition’s fighter jets launched two airstrikes, bombing two ISIS oil pumpjacks and an oil tank, according to coalition officials.
Another airstrike hit an ISIS security headquarters in Raqqa suburb.
“The building was destroyed completely, and at least 13 ISIS security guards were killed in the attack,” media activist Omar Rihawi told ARA News in Raqqa. “Other airstrikes targeted ISIS oil facilities, causing huge explosions and a state of alert among ISIS ranks.”
Also on Tuesday, the coalition’s fighter jets hit an ISIS supply route near Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province, and destroyed at least 13 oil tankers that the group was trying to move to Iraq.
“Three strikes destroyed 13 ISIL oil tanker trucks and a tractor trailer [in Deir ez-Zor],” the US-led coalition said in a statement on Tuesday, using another acronym for ISIS.

[Chicago Tribune] After another violent holiday weekend, reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown ... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,... police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Tuesday his department is doing all it can to combat violence rooted in "impoverished neighborhoods" where "people without hope do these kinds of things."
"It's not a police issue, it's a society issue," Johnson told news hounds outside police headquarters after a long weekend that saw 65 people shot, 13 of them fatally.
"Impoverished neighborhoods, people without hope do these kinds of things," he said. "You show me a man that doesn't have hope, I'll show you one that's willing to pick up a gun and do anything with it.
"Those are the issues that's driving this violence. CPD is doing its job," he continued.
Johnson pointed to increases in gun arrests this year over last year -- and more than 6,000 illegal gun recoveries so far in 2016 -- as evidence that officers are out on the streets working.
But he acknowledged that the fallout from last year's release of the Laquan McDonald video, and the amplified distrust between the police and African-American community, doesn't make it easy for his officers.

"It's not a police issue, it's a society issue,"
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] President B.O. used politicians' first day back in Washington after a seven-week recess to push the Senate on judicial nominations.
Obama nominated Abid Riaz Qureshi to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday.
Qureshi, a partner in a Washington law firm who specializes in False Claims Act cases, healthcare fraud and securities violations, is the first Moslem nominated to the federal bench.
"I commend President B.O. for taking this important step in continuing to pick the best and brightest from every community to serve as part of our nation's judiciary," stated Farhana Khera, former counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee and executive director of a Moslem legal advocacy organization. "A judiciary that reflects the rich diversity of our nation helps ensure the fair and just administration of the law," he added.
Qureshi nomination comes as Democratic politicians and groups are trying to pressure Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to move forward with Judge Merrick Garland's nomination to the Supreme Court.
For example, several lawyers and legal professors who have clerked for Garland at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals are holding a rally for their former boss on the steps of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Obama nominated Garland to replace the-late Justice Antonin Scalia on March 16.
"The Senate's obstruction on Judge Garland's nomination is emblematic of the blockade throughout the entire judicial system," stated Why Courts Matter, the group hosting Wednesday's rally. "The clerks and advocates will also call on the Senate to act on the backlog of lower court nominees, some of whom have been waiting for months, and even years, for a hearing or a vote on the Senate floor."

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Italian police said on Tuesday they had broken up a criminal network that smuggled mostly Syrian refugees across the Balkans to Western Europe.
International police forces nabbed ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... 21 people in Austria, Germany and Italia on suspicion of people smuggling, a police statement said. The arrests followed an investigation conducted by prosecutors in the northern Italian city of Como.
Most of those arrested were Syrian, while others were Algerian, Egyptian, Lebanese and Tunisian and were officially resident in the area around Como, Italia.
The criminal group organized transport for more than 200 migrants colonists from 2014 to 2016, charging at least 500 euros ($560) each, according to prosecutors, who worked together with the EU's judicial cooperation unit, Eurojust.
The probe began in September last year after an Italian was arrested in Hungary "while driving in a vehicle with several illegal migrants colonists," Eurojust said in a separate statement.
Italian police said the smuggling ring picked up migrants colonists who had reached Hungary, and from there they were moved on towards Germany, Austria, and more rarely to La Belle France and Italia.
The so-called "Balkans route," used by hundreds of thousands of migrants colonists last year, has been less popular since the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... agreed to stop boat crossings from Turkey to Greece earlier this year.
But boat crossings from Libya to Italia continue at about the same rate as before, with some 100,000 arrivals so far this year.

[Siasat] Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... ’s top holy man is revving up the kingdom’s rhetoric against Iran, saying in comments published today that Tehran’s leaders are "not Moslems," in response to rancorous remarks from Iran’s supreme leader.
The remarks by Grand Mufti Abdulaziz Al Sheikh came a day after Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused Saudi authorities of killing Moslems injured during last year’s crush of crowds at the hajj pilgrimage. Their confrontational comments mark a sharp escalation in the countries’ faceoff as their spat plays out across the region.
Khamenei, in remarks published on his website yesterday, said the "heartless and murderous Saudis locked up the injured with the dead in containers ‐ instead of providing medical treatment and helping them or at least quenching their thirst. They murdered them."
Mostly Sunni Saudi Arabia and majority Shiite Iran back opposite sides of the wars in Syria and Yemen, and support opposing political groups in Iraq, Bahrain and Leb.
In comments to the Makkah newspaper, the top Saudi holy man was quoted as saying that Khamenei’s remarks are "not surprising" because Iranians are descendants of "Majuws" ‐ a term that refers to Zoroastrians and those who worship fire.
Zoroastrianism is a monotheistic religion predating Christianity and Islam and was the dominant religion in Persia before the Arab conquest. "We must understand they are not Moslems, for they are the descendants of Majuws, and their enmity toward Moslems, especially the Sunnis, is very old," the Saudi holy man said.
The September 2015 stampede and crush of pilgrims killed at least 2,426 people, according to an News Agency that Dare Not be Named count. Iran had the highest of corpse count of any country, with 464 Iranian pilgrims killed.
Saudi authorities have not released any findings of their investigation into the hajj disaster. Preliminary statements suggested the crush was caused when at least two large crowds intersected.
Khamenei also blamed Saudi Arabia for an earlier crane collapse in Mecca that killed 111 people, and urged Moslems around the world to reconsider Saudi Arabia’s custodianship and management of Islam’s holiest sites in Mecca and Medina where the hajj is performed. He also said Saudi rulers promote sectarian strife and arm "wicked takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed... groups" ‐ a reference to bully boy Sunni murderous Moslems who denounce other Moslems as heretics and non-believers.

In comments to the Makkah newspaper, the top Saudi holy man was quoted as saying that "...Khamenei’s remarks are "not surprising" because Iranians are descendants of "Majuws" ‐ a term that refers to Zoroastrians and those who worship fire...".
While, the Soddies are descendants of polytheists who worshipped a moon god named Allah.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] North African countries should be cooperating more to stop ISIS fighters who are fleeing their Libyan stronghold of Sirte from returning to their homelands and causing trouble there, Tunisia’s defense minister said on Tuesday.
Libyan forces aligned with the UN-backed government in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... launched their campaign to recapture Sirte in May and are advancing on the last areas under its control.
But Tunisia, which estimates that about 4,000 of its nationals left to fight for holy warrior groups, is concerned that many are returning to the country and could turn their focus on home soil.
"The danger is real. Those who leave Sirte are heading south to eventually join Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... , but some are also going west," the Tunisian minister, Farhat Hachani, told journalists on the sidelines of a gathering of defense and military officials in Gay Paree.
"There isn’t a regional strategy. Neighboring countries are managing the day to day security and military question ... but while there are terror laws, you need proof that a young person was in a camp or fighting in holy warrior ranks," he said.
International cooperation is "not up to the level of the danger," he added. "We are in a decisive moment. The threats endanger all the region. We have to cooperate before the boat sinks."
His French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian said the spread of faceless myrmidons beyond Libya had to be dealt with and a plan put in place.
"They don’t just disappear so there’s a new risk there and only a real cooperation between all neighboring countries will enable us to face that threat," Le Drian said.

The lead continues to fly in Yemen
ADEN: At least 26 fighters were killed in clashes on Monday between pro-government troops and rebels over control of an oil-rich region east of the Yemeni capital, military sources said.
“Pro-government forces launched a military operation today to retake Sarwah,” a loyalist military source said of the only part of Marib province still held by the rebels.
Clashes and air raids by the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government “killed 16 rebels and left dozens wounded,” the source said.
Ten pro-government soldiers were killed and 12 wounded in the fighting, he added.
Loyalist forces recaptured hills overlooking Sarwah, military sources said.

From a 2013 report:
Yemen is a minor oil and gas producer whose reserves are in decline, and will remain so unless
major new discoveries are made. Until recently the hydrocarbon sector and the revenues
it has generated have been used to extend the personal power of President Salih and have
not led to tangible economic development.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division destroyed a building complex that housed jihadist fighters near the reconciled town of ’Ibta in the Dara’a Governorate on Tuesday.
According to a military source, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Division planted bombs at this building outside of ’Ibta and then subsequently detonated their explosives at nightfall, when the jihadist rebels were least expecting an attack.

[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS terrorist group has announced the death in Syria of an Australian ’jihadist’ convicted over a 2005 plot to bomb the Melbourne Cricket Ground, in a new English-language magazine.
Ezzit Raad, who travelled to the Middle East after serving time in jail, died fighting for ISIS in Manbij near the battleground city of Aleppo in northern Syria, according to the online propaganda magazine Rumiyah released on Monday.
The first edition also featured calls for lone-wolf attacks in the West, singling out targets in Australia in a biography of the Australian ’jihadist’ of Lebanese origin, also known as Abu Mansur al-Muhajir.
The 38-page magazine was released simultaneously in seven languages, including English, French, German, Russian and Turkish.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said last week that more than 60 Australians have so far been killed in Iraq and Syria, while around 200 people back home had been investigated for supporting Lion of Islam groups.
Ten attacks have been foiled in Australia since the country raised its alert level to high in 2014, he said, but three have taken place, including the murder of a police employee in Sydney in October.
Officials announced last week that Australia would start targeting ’jihadist’ support and logistics resources in Iraq and Syria, as it broadens the scope of its air war on IS as part of a US-led multinational coalition.

[DeutscheWelle] Islamist preacher Sven Lau's trial has begun in the regional court in Dusseldorf on charges of supporting a terror organization in Syria. The court will also debate on whether Lau himself can be branded a terrorist.
Lau's trial began Tuesday afternoon at the regional court in the western German city of Dusseldorf.
Judges have scheduled 30 trial days, with the entire trial to run until January 18, 2017.
The first day of the trial was broken off soon after the charges against the accused were read out, with proceedings postponed until next week.
The delay was ordered because Lau initially refused to respond to the charges, according to his lawyer.
Leading figure in Salafist scene
Prosecutors have accused the 35-year-old of supporting the terror group Jamwa, (roughly translated as an army of emigrants colonists and helpers),
..."Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar" (JMA), which Germany lists as a terrorist organization. They pledged allegiance to Al Nusra, except those splitters who pledged to ISIS. Herr Lau belongs to the ISIS bunch...
which is active in Syria. The Dusseldorf court's judges have also hinted that they could brand Lau a terrorist himself.
Complaints against Lau go back to the year 2013, when the Islamist preacher ferried two Salafists ...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them... from Germany to join the Jamwa in Syria. One of these men was an Islamist who had been sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Lau allegedly also gathered monetary support and supplied night vision aids to the terrorists.
The Islamist's lawyer, Mutlu Gunal has claimed his client is innocent, accusing the main witness of being a "notorious liar."
Widely regarded as a leading figure in the German Salafist scene, Lau is reported to have initiated the "Sharia police" in Wuppertal in Germany's western industrial Ruhr region. Together with his accomplices, all aged between 24 and 35, he patrolled the streets in September 2014 in an attempt to enforce a strict interpretation of Islam.
Wearing orange vests, emblazoned with the words "Shariah police," the defendants allegedly demanded people at nightclubs stop drinking alcohol and listening to music. The bearded fundamentalists were also observed calling for an end to gambling as they carried signs in English, declaring a "Sharia Controlled Zone."
[DeutscheWelle] The huge influx of refugees has taken its toll on the justice system.
Asylum-seekers almost always enter the country illegally, which means the public prosecutor inevitably has to start proceedings in every single case, even if they are dropped again just as inevitably. The result: 672,000 preliminary proceedings for illegal entry and other crimes from January 2015 to March 2016. Courts in Bavaria, the main entry point into Germany for most refugees, bore the brunt of these cases.
Nationwide, other courts are just as overtaxed: administrative courts are involved in the procedure to grant the right of asylum, while family courts are responsible for the many unaccompanied minors.
Trials take longer - at the expense of the citizens, since tasks are prioritized. There is much more pressure to shorten proceedings by "cutting deals, terminating proceedings and entering into pre-trial settlement negotiations," the DRB director said.
What's needed now, Rebehn said, is a political change of course. "As a first step, the states must fully comply with their obligations to the judiciary - 100 percent, not just 80 or 90 percent." If 2,000 extra judges and prosecutors were hired, "many of the current problems could be drastically resolved."
[RFE/RL] Russia's National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAK) said two militants who were involved in a series of terrorist attacks have been killed in Dagestan. According to the NAK, one security officer was also killed in the special operation held in Dagestan's southern district of Magaramkent on September 5. Another security officer was injured during the operation.
[RUDAW.NET] After the capture of Jarablus by the Turkish army, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Turkish army are racing to take control of the Syrian town of al-Bab, halfway between Manbij and Aleppo.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Despite their alleged commitment to fighting turbans in Syria and Iraq, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... continues to transport and treat jihadist fighters in their field hospitals.
Photos from Turkish field hospitals were leaked on Tuesday, showing prominent jihadist fighters in northern Hama being treated in Turkey.
Northern Hama is by no means close to the Turkish border, so the transportation of these maimed jihadists would have to be coordinated and approved by the Turkish government.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Brazilian prosecutors said on Tuesday they had charged Forjas Taurus SA, Latin America's largest gunmaker, in May for allegedly dealing with a known Yemeni arms trafficker in violation of international sanctions.
Prosecutors in the southern city of Porto Alegre, near Taurus headquarters, said a judge had opened a confidential case against the company. Taurus confirmed on Monday a Rooters report that two former executives had been charged over the deal that allegedly sent arms to Yemen's civil war, but the company said it was only a concerned party in the case.
Brazil’s Forjas Taurus SA, the largest weapons manufacturer in Latin America, sold guns to a known Yemeni arms trafficker who funneled them into his nation’s civil war in violation of international sanctions, according to charges in court documents reviewed by Rooters.
Federal prosecutors in southern Brazil charged two former executives of Forjas Taurus in May with shipping 8,000 handguns in 2013 to Fares Mohammed Hassan Manaa, an arms smuggler active around the Horn of Africa for over a decade according to the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... The handguns were allegedly shipped by Taurus to Djibouti and redirected to Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... by Manaa, according to court documents.
Alexandre Wunderlich, a lawyer for the two former Taurus export executives, Eduardo Pezzuol and Leonardo Sperry, said the accusations in the sealed indictment "do not reflect the facts of the matter."
Yemen has been consumed since early last year by a brutal civil war killing thousands of people as Iran-backed Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... hard boyz challenge the Saudi-allied legitimate government.
Manaa, who served from 2011 to 2014 as governor of Sadah could not be reached for comment.
It is believed that Manaa is a top Yemeni arms-dealer and businessman. In October 2009, the Yemeni government released a blacklist of arms dealers with Manaa top of the list, as part of an effort to stem the flood of weapons in the country.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A suicide kaboom on the Chinese embassy in the Kyrgyz capital last week was ordered by Uighur terrorist groups active in Syria and carried out by a member of the East Turkestan Islamic movement, Kyrgyzstan’s state security service said on Tuesday.
The jacket wallah, whose car rammed the gates of the embassy on Aug. 30, was an ethnic Uighur who held a Tajik passport in the name of Zoir Khalilov, the security service said in a statement.

Well, I'm certain that statement will quell any discomfort the parents may have. Wonder where/how the outbreak originated? Finland?

Yep, yep, yep, think of all those cheap gardeners, house keepers, nannies, not to mention those janitorial workers at Dad's or Mom's office place. Bring it right in to the communities that just don't want their child immunized. Sounds like a great means of cleansing the 'elites'.
[Dhaka Tribune] US President Barack Obama If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon... cancelled his first meeting with Philippines counterpart Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday after the blunt-spoken Duterte described him as a "son of a bitch", casting a shadow over a gathering of Asian leaders in Laos.
Duterte, who has been roundly criticised abroad for a ’war on drugs’ that has killed about 2,400 people since he took office two months ago, said hours later that he regretted his comments "came across as a personal attack" on the US president.
"President Duterte explained that the press reports that President B.O. would ’lecture’ him on extrajudicial killings led to his strong comments, which in turn elicited concern," the Philippines government said.
"He regrets that his remarks to the press have caused much controversy," it added in a statement released at the summit in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.
The White House had earlier said Obama would not pull any punches on his concerns about human rights When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much... abuses in the Philippines, its treaty ally, when meeting Duterte.

Mr. Duterte has issues.
The Philippines does have a drug problem. Meth is flowing into the country. Most, if not all of it, is financed, produced and delivered by gangs with ties to China, particularly Chinese officials. The Philippines has serious law enforcement and border control deficiencies in dealing with it.
The Philippines also has the obvious problem with Chinese aggression, both territorial and its backing of insurgency in the Philippines. The Philippines has serious military and intel deficiencies in dealing with this as well.
At least 20 Yemeni soldiers loyal to exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s government were killed in a bomb blast east of the capital Sanaa on Monday, officials said.
Two officials said the bomb went off at the entrance of a Yemeni army camp in central Marib province, which is mainly under the control of Hadi’s government. Several other soldiers were wounded in the blast, the officials said, adding that the number of casualties could rise as some of those injured were in serious condition.
It was not immediately clear if the bomb blast was a result of a deliberate attack or if it was an accident.
Are accidental bomb blasts a problem in Yemen?
Hadi’s government, backed by a Saudi-led Arab coalition, has been waging an offensive against Iran-allied Houthi fighters and supporters of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh since March last year. The Houthis hold the capital.
On Sunday, residents reported that a drone believed to be operated by the United States attacked a house in the Wadi Obeida tribal area in Marib province, killing six suspected al Qaeda militants. Washington has kept up a campaign of drone strikes against militants who have exploited the 18-month-old civil war.
The United States has for years launched drone strikes against al Qaeda’s powerful Yemen branch, which planned several foiled bombing attempts on Western-bound airliners and claimed responsibility for the 2015 attack at the Charlie Hebdo magazine’s offices in Paris.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has grabbed territory in the south and east of Yemen, but an offensive by government and Emirati forces beginning in April pushed them out of many towns they had seized back into rural and mountainous areas.
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A local source in Nineveh province informed on Tuesday, that 25 ISIS militants were either killed or wounded in an international coalition bombing north of the province.
Sharing more details the source revealed, “The international coalition aviation managed, this afternoon, to bomb ISIS headquarters in Ghabat area in northern Nineveh, killing 18 ISIS members and wounding seven others.”
The source added, “The strike also destroyed 12 vehicles belonging to the organization.”

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] After three days of violence and a corpse count which varies from more than 500 to the official count of seven, the Bongo family is cracking down on a popular uprising to maintain its grip over the little known country of Gabon. As many feared, the dynasty which ruled over the country for the last 50 years is crushing the hopes of a population just a few hours after democratic elections whose results were swiftly dressed up.
In particular, the final vote count from the Haut Ogoue province, the historical fiefdom of Ali Bongo, were provided several hours late and eventually revealed a population size vastly increased overnight, from official record down to the Wikipedia page. In that specific region, the ballot result communicated by the Bongo presidency showed a participation of 99.93 percent (40 percent above the national average) with 95 percent votes casted for the reelection of Ali Bongo, just enough to ensure him victory by less than 6000 votes.
Gabon is the archetype of post-colonial African countries fallen off the media radar despite the regular abuse of its population and endemic corruption. It could serve as a symbol of how a rich endowment in natural resources is being diverted by the very few for their personal staggering wealth while regular citizens struggle every day to make ends meet. Despite a well-educated population ‐ illiteracy is below 3 percent ‐ and the third largest hydrocarbon resources in sub-Saharan Africa, Gabon’s economic growth has been hampered by nepotism and inefficiency. The richest 20 percent of the population earn over 90 percent of the income while about a third of the Gabonese population lives in poverty.

[DAYTONDAILYNEWS] A Senate Democratic political action committee is cancelling three weeks of pro-Ted Strickland commercials scheduled to begin airing Sept. 20.
It’s another sign that national Democrats are losing faith that the former Ohio governor can beat Republican Sen. Rob Portman in the race for U.S. Senate.
Shripal Shah, a front man for Senate Majority PAC, confirmed that the PAC had cancelled roughly $3 million worth of ads scheduled to run in Columbus, Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone, ...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ... , Dayton and Toledo.
Interesting that they hadn't planned to bother with Cincinnati. While the region is pretty Republican, the city of Cincinnati is very strongly Democrat. On the other hand, we've been seeing anti-Strickland advertising here for months, and the Strickland campaign is running their own ads down here.
The ads were to run Sept. 20 through Oct. 10, but weren’t running for the entirety of the time in all four markets.
Shah said that the PAC still has time reserved from Oct. 11 through Election Day.
"As we’ve said previously, we regularly adjust our spending to maximize resources and make sure we’re in the best possible position to win this November," he said.
A Strickland front man said Strickland was still enthusiastic about his chances.
"There’s still a lot of race left to run, and there’s no one who knows Ohio better or is a stronger grassroots campaigner than Ted Strickland," Strickland’s campaign front man David Bergstein said. "We just recently launched our paid media campaign, the national environment is rapidly deteriorating around Portman, he’s facing a daily firestorm about his continued support for Trump -- and Portman’s small, weak field operation can’t compete with the Ohio Democratic Party’s coordinated field campaign which has hundreds of organizers and volunteers across the state working to elect Ted, Secretary Clinton and Democrats at every level."
The Democratic Senatorial Senate Committee canceled ads for Strickland last week but shifted money to pay for ads already scheduled by the campaign.
In latest polling, Strickland was nine points behind Portman, who has benefited from better fundraising.

I think the obvious question here is, does this mean Ohio is Trump's?
(IraqiNews.com) Salahuddin – Kata’ib al-Imam brigade announced discovering three mass graves containing the remains of Speicher camp’s martyrs in central Tikrit.
The spokesperson for Kata’ib al-Imam brigade Hussein al-Asadi said, “Today, detachments of Kata’ib al-Imam brigade discovered three mass graves containing the remains of Speicher camp’s victims inside the presidential palaces in central Tikrit.”
“These graves contained the bodies of more than 30 victims,” Asadi added.
ISIS finance center burns in Mosul Just like everything else these fellas touch
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – A local source in Nineveh province reported on Tuesday, that the main building of ISIS financial directorate was devoured by a huge fire in downtown Mosul.
Sharing further details the source informed, “Fire broke out in the main building of ISIS finance directorate in central Mosul,” noting that, “The fire was accompanied by explosions inside the building due to the extension of the fire to a warehouse containing munitions and ammunition.”
“Detachments of ISIS wearing black uniforms arrested the financial official and five of his associates over the incident. The building was dedicated to the management of ISIS salaries file,” the source added.
DEIR EZZOR – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group stoned a young man to death after accusing him of committing adultery, activists in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province reported on Wednesday.
The ISIS-led Islamic Police [al-Hisba] detained the 22-year-old man Ali al-Alian al-Shiwesh in the city of al-Bukamal in southern Deir ez-Zor earlier on Tuesday.
The Sharia Court on Wednesday decided to publicly stone him to death on charges of committing adultery.
“Dozens of people gathered in al-Bukamal’s central square to witness the execution of al-Shiwesh,” media activist Hazim al-Agidi told ARA News.
Eyewitnesses reported that ISIS militants have also forced a number of civilians to participate in stoning the young man.
“Islamic State members demanded the people to participate in executing the victim, stressing that the people should show commitment to Allah’s Sharia and that the man deserved death for committing adultery,” an eyewitness told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Iraq has put out fires at six more oil wells in the Qayyara region, which Iraqi forces recaptured from ISIS late last month, but at least three fires are still blazing, the oil ministry said on Tuesday.
The militants sabotaged much of Qayyara’s oil infrastructure before fleeing ahead of the government advance, sending black smoke into the sky for days and oil pouring into main thoroughfares.
The authorities said last week they had already put out fires from four wells, but a Reuters correspondent visiting the city afterwards saw around a dozen separate plumes of smoke and a military officer in the area said on Sunday the fires were still raging.
“The firefighting consisted of removing explosives from these wells, putting out the fires and preventing crude oil from leaking into the river to prevent pollution,” ministry spokesman Asim Jihad said.
Responders also built dirt walls and trenches to prevent oil from reaching residential neighborhoods, he added.
Jihad said three wells that remain outside the control of the security forces would be extinguished as soon as they were recaptured.
The Qayyara region produces heavy sour crude and has a small refinery to process some of the oil.
The oil ministry has said it does not expect to resume production from the Qayyara region before security forces recapture Mosul, Islamic State’s de facto capital in Iraq. The two main fields, Qayyara and Najma, used to produce 30,000 barrels per day of heavy crude before the takeover by Islamic State.
A Japanese command to "destroy" incoming North Korea missiles on Monday repeatedly failed, according to local press.
Tokyo's self-defense forces were unable to recognize North Korea preparations for Monday's missile test because Pyongyang used a road mobile launcher, also known as a transporter erector launcher, Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai reported Tuesday.
On Aug. 3, the SDF was also unable to identify a ballistic missile North Korea launched into Japan's territorial waters. Tokyo subsequently issued a new order to destroy all incoming projectiles entering Japanese airspace.
Japan's "destroy command" would lead to a sequence of events, including the deployment of SM3 interceptor missiles and Patriot missiles. The PAC system would be deployed near the site of Tokyo's defense agency, according to the report.
On Monday, the defense ministry could not detect the three ballistic missiles North Korea fired until they landed west of Hokkaido in Japan's exclusive economic zone.
That sounds rather inexcusable, if true. This is technology that's supposed to work, though I grant that the Japanese haven't had the practical experience the Israelis have recently had.
Tokyo also could not immediately confirm the results of the launch even after Seoul's joint chiefs notified the public of the tests.
Japan press also reported the missiles have increased in strike accuracy. Each of the three missiles launched Monday traveled about 620 miles before falling into Japanese waters, according to the Nihon Keizai. The defense ministry estimates the missiles fell between 125 and 155 miles from Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.
Pyongyang launched the missiles to test out the missile defense systems of Japan, the United States and South Korea, local newspaper Sankei Shimbun stated Tuesday, and the Mainichi Shimbun stated North Korea launched multiple projectiles to make interception more difficult.
No wonder Fat Boy is pleased -- see the other article today. The Japanese are going to need to prepare for multiple launches, decoys and other counter-measures. They'll eventually figure it out but there's going to be a learning curve.
On Tuesday, North Korea state media focused heavily on the Monday launches. Pyongyang's Rodong Sinmun stated all three missiles flew more than 600 miles, and KCNA reported the tests "this time" confirmed the "accuracy" and "flight safety" of the rockets. All three missiles are the midrange Rodong missiles, North Korea stated.

[Libya Herald] Over 2,600 migrants colonists in 22 rescue missions were saved while attempting to cross the Mediterranean from Libya yesterday, the Italian Coast Guard reported.
The multiple rescue operations were carried out by the Italian Coast Guard, the Italian Navy, the EU’s Sophia Operation and NGO’s including MOAS and the Italian Red Thingy.
The Malta-based Migrant Offshore Aid Station NGO reported that during its operations it had rescued 354 migrants colonists and recovered seven dead bodies ‐ five women and two men. They were believed to have died from inhaling toxic fumes from an overloaded rubber boat.
MSF believe many of the rubber boats are of poor quality exported to Libya from China. Yesterday no less than eight young children aged from 1 to 11 were amongst those rescued ‐ including a two-year old.
The rescued included many youth and children with MSF reporting that over 18,000 unaccompanied children had already crossed the Mediterranean in 2016.
The tide of migrants colonists launched from the Libyan coast across the Mediterranean has failed to subside despite the EU’s Operation Sophia designed to stem the flow. The continued migrant crossings have also continued unabated despite the installation of the pro--EU Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council/Government of National Accord in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... since 30th March.
In its latest figures released today, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) says that 288,005 migrants colonists and refugees entered Europe by sea in 2016 up to 4 September. This total does not include the hundreds still on their way to Italian ports after being rescued Sunday and Monday in the Channel of Sicily.
In 2016 almost all migrant and refugee landings in the Mediterranean were to Greece and Italia, where 116,861 migrants colonists and refugees have been recorded through Sunday.
Confirmed Mediterranean fatalities among migrants colonists and refugees, the IOM reports, stands at 3,176 ‐ a figure that does not include 15 bodies reportedly recovered Monday. These Mediterranean deaths are almost 500 more than those recorded up to 6 September 2015.

I know it's Vanity Fair. Just read it, willya?
It was late morning on Friday, October 18, when Elizabeth Holmes realized that she had no other choice. She finally had to address her employees at Theranos, the blood-testing start-up that she had founded as a 19-year-old Stanford dropout, which was now valued at some $9 billion. Two days earlier, a damning report published in The Wall Street Journal had alleged that the company was, in effect, a sham—that its vaunted core technology was actually faulty and that Theranos administered almost all of its blood tests using competitors’ equipment.
The article created tremors throughout Silicon Valley, where Holmes, the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire, had become a near universally praised figure. Curiosity about the veracity of the Journal story was also bubbling throughout the company’s mustard-and-green Palo Alto headquarters, which was nearing the end of a $6.7 million renovation. Everyone at Theranos, from its scientists to its marketers, wondered what to make of it all.
For two days, according to insiders, Holmes, who is now 32, had refused to address these concerns. Instead, she remained largely holed up in a conference room, surrounded by her inner circle. Half-empty food containers and cups of stale coffee and green juice were strewn on the table as she strategized with a phalanx of trusted advisers, including Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, then Theranos’s president and C.O.O.; Heather King, the company’s general counsel; lawyers from Boies, Schiller & Flexner, the intrepid law firm; and crisis-management consultants. Most of the people in the war room had been there for two days and nights straight, according to an insider, leaving mainly to shower or make a feeble attempt at a couple of hours of shut-eye. There was also an uncomfortable chill in the room. At Theranos, Holmes preferred that the temperature be maintained in the mid-60s, which facilitated her preferred daily uniform of a black turtleneck with a puffy black vest—a homogeneity that she had borrowed from her idol, the late Steve Jobs.
Holmes had learned a lot from Jobs. Like Apple, Theranos was secretive, even internally. Just as Jobs had famously insisted at 1 Infinite Loop, 10 minutes away, that departments were generally siloed, Holmes largely forbade her employees from communicating with one another about what they were working on—a culture that resulted in a rare form of executive omniscience. At Theranos, Holmes was founder, C.E.O., and chairwoman. There wasn’t a decision—from the number of American flags framed in the company’s hallway (they are ubiquitous) to the compensation of each new hire—that didn’t cross her desk.
And like Jobs, crucially, Holmes also paid indefatigable attention to her company’s story, its “narrative.” Theranos was not simply endeavoring to make a product that sold off the shelves and lined investors’ pockets; rather, it was attempting something far more poignant. In interviews, Holmes reiterated that Theranos’s proprietary technology could take a pinprick’s worth of blood, extracted from the tip of a finger, instead of intravenously, and test for hundreds of diseases—a remarkable innovation that was going to save millions of lives and, in a phrase she often repeated, “change the world.” In a technology sector populated by innumerable food-delivery apps, her quixotic ambition was applauded. Holmes adorned the covers of Fortune, Forbes, and Inc., among other publications. She was profiled in The New Yorker and featured on a segment of Charlie Rose. In the process, she amassed a net worth of around $4 billion. Much more at the link

Go to the article. Scroll down to the photo of the machine she developed. Then scroll down a good deal further to the ohoto of the lab where the testing is claimed to have taken place. Other than a distinct lack of the famed machine, what else do you notice about what is essentially a blood testing factory?
[THECOLLEGEFIX] Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, State University Los Angeles recently rolled out segregated housing for black students.
The arrangement comes roughly nine months after the university’s Black Student Union issued a set of demands in response to what its members contend are frequent "racist attacks" on campus, such as "racially insensitive remarks" and "microaggressions" by professors and students. One demand was for a "CSLA housing space delegated for Black students."
"[It] would provide a cheaper alternative housing solution for Black students. This space would also serve as a safe space for Black CSLA students to congregate, connect, and learn from each other," the demand letter stated.
The newly debuted Halisi Scholars Black Living-Learning Community "focuses on academic excellence and learning experiences that are inclusive and non-discriminatory," Cal State LA front man Robert Lopez told The College Fix via email.
The public university has 192 furnished apartments in a residential complex on campus, and the Halisi community will be located there, Lopez said, adding it joins other themed living-learning communities already housed there.

So will they also be excluded from the regular housing, student union, etc?
How about drinking fountains and cafeteria counters and tables?
If your going to give it to them, give them all of it!

Nothing new here. When I entered college in the Fall of 1967, the university had a separate dormitory for blacks created, just as in this case, in response to demands made by the black student body.

This is not teaching them to live in harmony with the rest of the US population after graduation. Aren't Universities supposed to prepare students for life?
I think a few class action lawsuits will come around in a decade and all of these black kids will have a free ride at the universities expense.
It's easy to fall back on familiar places and friends. It's more difficult to go to new places, try new things and meet new people. Sometimes there are challenges, maybe even a few perceived slights. But for those who are willing to face the challenges there are rewards.

I wonder what the reaction would be if white students demanded a whites only dorm.
No I don't. I know exactly what would happen.

Ditto at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1980. The Black Student Union had a floor, just like the nursing students and the future engineers. They deeply resented that an oriental girl and I were placed among them temporarily, and did their best to drive us out before beds were freed up in our promised dorms.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... ’s government is under "huge pressure" from its people to abandon its decades-old drive to join the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... because they see it applying double standards towards their country, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a forum in the Slovene mountain resort of Bled, Cavusoglu also warned that Europe could be heading towards instability and could succumb to extremism due to the strains of its twin economic and migration crises.
Cavusoglu also repeated his previous criticism of EU leaders for not showing sufficient solidarity with Turkey after a botched military coup in July in which President Tayyip Erdogan narrowly avoided capture and possible death.
"Turkish people see the double standard," Cavusoglu said. "We are under huge pressure to stop the negotiating process."
Ankara, which has been seeking EU membership for decades and began formal accession talks in 2005, has long accused the bloc of treating it differently to other candidate nations.
Some European politicians have spoken out against admitting Turkey, a large, mainly Moslem nation of nearly 80 million people that borders Iraq and Syria and has had a patchy record on democracy and human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... over the decades.
Relations have become especially strained after EU governments criticised the scale of Erdogan’s crackdown on those he accused of organising or backing the failed coup on July 15.

These were the first confrontations between the military and the Abu Sayyaf in its southern Sulu lair since clashes on August 29 left 15 troops and more than 30 Abu Sayyaf dead. Tan said that specific battalions involved in the offensive are targeting each subgroup, including that of Sahiron and another leader, Alhabsi Misaya.
On Tuesday, during a trip to Laos to attend the ASEAN summits, Duterte is reported to have told members of Vientiane's Filipino community that he needed only a little more time to make the Abu Sayyaf pay for their crimes. He said, "If I have to face them, you know I can eat humans. I will really open up your body. Just give me vinegar and salt, and I will eat you.
"Go ahead. Set off bombs... How many did they kill, 15? Well, give me time. When the time comes, I will pulverize you. You watch me. You’ve seen how I operate… Just give me a little time."

I think Duterte's gonna run his mouth one too many times in the near future. It'll be fun watching him get there.
