Newly Discovered Flatworm Is Named After Obama
A new species of blood fluke was found infecting the lungs of turtles in Malaysia. This parasitic flatworm has been dubbed Baracktrema obamai, in honor of the President of the United States (who is the fifth cousin twice removed of one of the discovering scientists).

B. obamai is described in the August issue of the Journal of Parasitology as having a long, thread-like body.
It's a blood-sucking parasite, of course...
So far, it’s shown up in two freshwater turtles, the black marsh turtle (Siebenrockiella crassicollis) and southeast Asian box turtle (Cuora amboinensis).

The scientists found clusters of tens to hundreds of fluke eggs in the turtles’ lung alveoli, the tiny sacs where blood receives oxygen and gets rid of carbon dioxide. How these eggs get outside to hatch and infect new hosts isn’t clear, although making the turtles cough is probably involved.
These guys never saw Alien...

Ben Hur Projected To Lose $120 Million At The Box Office
Another crap remake? What a surprise.
Steven Spielberg's 'The BFG' and fellow Disney release 'Alice Through the Looking Glass" are other giant-sized summer tentpoles racking up major losses.

Ben-Hur? More like Ben-Horrendous.

The ancient tale directed by Timur Bekmambetov is officially the biggest bust of summer 2016 and is on track to lose an epic $120 million or more, according to sources close to the film and multiple box-office analysts consulted by The Hollywood Reporter. The Paramount/MGM release has grossed just $53.9 million to date at the global box office since its mid-August debut, including a dismal $25 million domestically. While it has several major foreign markets yet to open, the film is fading fast and will have a hard time getting past $75 million globally, say knowledgeable sources.

Ben-Hur cost nearly $100 million to make before a major marketing spend. The loss is calculated when comparing box office and marketing costs against box-office film rental and revenue from ancillary revenue (home entertainment and television).

#4  Well to me, there are just some movies that are so complete and classic in their script, acting, and cinematography that doing a remake is just stupid and futile.

The Ben Hur with Carlton Heston is so classic and so well put together that I just don't understand the decision to redo it. And it stuck much more closely to the Lew Wallace book than the new one.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hezbollah's horror weapon and its remedy
The canonical definition of the Yiddish word chutzpah involves a man who murders his parents and then asks for clemency because he is an orphan. An unprecedented degree of chutzpah informs the machinations of radical Muslims, who engineer humanitarian disasters and then demand that the West intervene to save them.

Most of Clinton’s cabinet didn’t want to support the KLA, which made its money in narcotics and human trafficking, and they didn’t want to divide the sovereign state of Serbia--a precedent that Russia later used to justify its seizure of the Crimea. Nonetheless the moral blackmail succeeded, and Muslim radicals learned how to push the guilt button of the West.

Economy
Auto Loan Bubble Is Beginning To Burst
h/t Gates of Vienna
Do you remember the subprime mortgage meltdown from the last financial crisis? Well, this time around we are facing a subprime auto loan meltdown. In recent years, auto lenders have become more and more aggressive, and they have been increasingly willing to lend money to people that should not be borrowing money to buy a new vehicle under any circumstances. Just like with subprime mortgages, this strategy seemed to pay off at first, but now economic reality is beginning to be felt in a major way. Delinquency rates are up by double digit percentages, and major auto lenders are bracing for hundreds of millions of dollars of losses. We are a nation that is absolutely drowning in debt, and we are most definitely going to reap what we have sown.

The size of this market is larger than you may imagine. Earlier this year, the auto loan bubble surpassed the one trillion dollar mark for the first time ever...

...And it is undeniable that the stage is set for a crisis that will absolutely dwarf 2008. Our national debt has nearly doubled since the beginning of the last crisis, corporate debt has doubled, student loan debt has crossed the trillion dollar mark, auto loan debt has crossed the trillion dollar mark, and total household debt has crossed the 12 trillion dollar mark.

We are living in the greatest debt bubble in world history, and there are signs that this giant bubble is now starting to burst. And when it does, the pain is going to be greater than most people would dare to imagine.

#4  ...When I briefly sold
Chryslers after retiring from the USAF (1998), the FIRST thing I discovered is that even then, roughly two thirds of the people who walked in the door didn't qualify for manufacturer or local bank financing. Our Finance guy would then make phone calls all over the US and it's possessions to find loans (we had some in Hawaii) for these folks.

Looks like they found a way around that little problem.

#5  Bought a truck last winter. Used, because I couldn't see going into hock with an auto loan bigger than my mortgage. So - no auto loan at all. In 45 years of participation in the auto market I have bought two new vehicles, and only took a loan on one (which was wrecked & totaled a couple of months after the last payment.)

#6  I thought the housing bubble was driven by Congress' desire to get more minorities into 'affordable housing'. Since interest rates are so low, more housing is affordable!

Is there a similar parallel for auto-mobiles? Who is squeezing the car manufacturers to sell more cars to people who can't afford them?

The housing bubble was government stupidity; this looks like private-sector greed.

#8  There's a lot of churn in the auto-loan/sales business. Dealers sell a car, then repossess the car, then re-sell the car, usually to someone else who also cannot or does not pay on the loan.

#9  It's another bubble bath on the taxpayers dime. Another student loan bubble has burst and more to come. 8,000 jobs lost, with some irate students pacified only by student debt erased, dumping the debt on taxpayers, and teachers on the unemployment rolls unable to pay mortgages and car loans thanks to a renegade Education secretary. Vets lost their benefits when they shuttered the door, too. University of Phoenix was resurrected by Obama buddy, Marty Nesbitt, and Devry Institute is probably next.

#11  You have to know the whole industry is skanky when Hyundai pushes 72 month loans to sell their cheapest cars.

That's a six year loan for a car that has a fair chance of not being around as a car in six years.

One of the reasons why the self-driving car is interesting to some people is that when you're not using it someone else can. Over time we'll get away from the idea of "owning" a car to just "using" a car.

#12  I have to blame Hank Paulson for the last eight years. Had he left the orderly disposition of assets under the supervision of FDIC Chair Sheila Bair--instead of the massive intrusion and arm twisting of TARP--we would have avoided the expenditures of $700-billion that instead of being returned to Treasury were blown on "shovel ready projects."

Path, good intentions...outcome.

Black Lives Matter Airport Protestors Were All White
h/t Instapundit
What are we to make of the fact that all nine #blacklivesmatter protesters who have been charged with aggravated trespass yesterday at London City Airport are white?

A Very Bad Poll for Hillary Clinton
h/t Instapundit

The frontrunner has outspent Trump almost 5-to-1 but still watched her lead evaporate.
Big bucks against the people's will? Or just "we can't vote for this mad old hag."?
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton ended last week in a downward spiral--and based on a new CNN/ORC poll, that isn’t likely to change soon.

The latest poll--and again, it’s the CNN poll, so it cannot be easily dismissed by Clinton backers as a right-wing outlier--finds that Clinton’s lead over GOP nominee Donald Trump has evaporated. Now Trump leads Clinton by 2 points (with a margin-of-error of 3.5 percentage points). Just a couple weeks ago, Clinton led Trump by 8 points and appeared to be pulling away--making November look like it might be a landslide for a woman whose actions have been investigated by the FBI.

#2  I believe there are still some good people in key places of the government. If Jeh Johnson is planning to have people throw the election to Hillary, it is important that at the least these people have a way to report what they see from inside to the outside world before the election.

#3  I've been pondering the mechanics of a preference cascade.

This may be the sign that voting for Trump is not the waste that it's been portrayed. People that hate Hillary may be starting to see that they're not alone.

It's still early and a lot of folk may not tell the truth to pollsters that they know are Demo shills.
Posted by: AlanC || 09/08/2016 8:24 Comments || Top||

#4  At this point, I want Trump to win if only so I can watch all the liberal Democrats heads explode. They are so convinced that he is unelectable and she is going to win in convincing fashion that the cognitive dissonance would reach historic proportions. If that's not fun to watch, I don't know what is.
Posted by: Eltoroverde || 09/08/2016 8:43 Comments || Top||

#5  The polls are rigged too. I'm thinking the vote is swinging more towards Trump than anyone wants to admit. Just look at the pre-election Brexit polls if anyone thinks polls can't be bought. Hang in there no matter what the polls say. Personally, I refuse to take part in polls. I think there are many others like me in that regard. Trump is doing the heavy lifting and showing up everywhere to talk to groups--he is a serious candidate and willing to work to be POTUS--seems to have the energy to do the job. In his travels he sees the rot that has been going on. He seems to have the honesty to do the job--something we haven't seen in a long, long time.

I don't think he's a doctor. He's got USSS written all over him. The way he reacted at the speech when he told Wildebeest to keep talking by focusing on the crowd convinced me he's on her detail. I've seen doctors on details before and they are usually way in the back and don't jump up on stage.

Really ?? Did you at least compare the photos?? Not even close.

"He watches the Beest, not the crowd."

Not in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlHLYR6kX0k

He does EXACTLY what an agent would do. The way he places his hands on her is textbook. He continues to look at the crowd/threat area while preparing to cover/evacuate her. Doctors don't do that and the detail wouldn't let them.

Doctors don't give instructions to detail agents. I've been doing this for 20 years. He's a USSS agent. He might be trained EMT/paramedic which would not surprise me but he's an agent.

Caribbean-Latin America
Israel acknowledges helping Paraguay in fight against Hezbollah
[Jpost] The report stated that Hezbollah continues to maintain a presence in South America and the Caribbean, "with members, controllers, and supporters engaging in activity in support of the organization."

Israel is helping Paraguay take actions against Hezbollah in the Tri-Border area with Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
and Brazil, the Foreign Ministry acknowledged on Wednesday while announcing the opening of the new embassy in Asuncion.

"Israel cooperates with Paraguay in the battle against terrorism and maintains a supportive role in actions against Hezbollah at the tri-border region," the ministry said in a background statement on relations with Paraguay.

One official explained that this cooperation has been taking place for years in the area, where there is a high concentration of Shi’ites of Lebanese descent who have set up a up a logistical base that assists the terrorist organization. Israel’s support for Paraguay in the area takes the form of intelligence cooperation, the official said, without elaborating.

According to the US State Department’s country report on terrorism for 2016, "Paraguay continued to face challenges of ineffective immigration, customs, and law enforcement controls along its mostly non-existent borders, particularly the Tri-Border Area (TBA) with Argentina and Brazil. Illicit activities within the TBA remained potential funding sources for terrorist organizations, most notably Hezbollah."

The report stated that Hezbollah continues to maintain a presence in South America and the Caribbean, "with members, controllers, and supporters engaging in activity in support of the organization. This included efforts to build Hezbollah’s infrastructure in South America and fund-raising, both through licit and illicit means."

The official opening of the embassy came some two months after Paraguay’s President Horacio Cartes visited Israel. The ceremony at the new embassy was attended by a number of senior Paraguayan officials, such as the Supreme Court president, president of the House of Representatives, and labor minister.

After Colombia, Paraguay is considered Israel’s closest friend in South America, with the Paraguayan government, according to the ministry statement, "having stood by Israel during Operation Protective Edge, a time when Israel was criticized by many countries. More recently, Paraguay supported Israel at major international forums."

Cartes won the election in 2013, and soon afterward told then-deputy foreign minister Ze’ev Elkin, who attended his inauguration, that he was interested in strengthening bilateral relations with Israel as well as pursuing an "independent" policy of supporting Israel in international forums, as opposed to the voting patterns of the vast majority of Latin American states.

In 2012, even before the election, Paraguay and Colombia were the only South American countries that did not vote for granting the Paleostinians non-member statehood status in the UN General Assembly.

And since the election, Paraguay has noted against Israel on significant issues.

For instance, in the UNESCO vote in April that effectively denied any Jewish connection to Jerusalem, Paraguay was one of 17 countries that abstained. It also voted for Israel at a very significant vote in the IAEA last September that would have forced Israel to open its nuclear facilities to international inspectors. And in 2015 it was not present for a vote on a UN resolution that mandated raising of the Paleostinian flag at the world body.

The two nations maintain a bilateral free trade agreement within the framework of Mercosur ‐ the South American Common Market, with annual Israel-Paraguay trade at some $200 million. Meat is a major component of Israel’s imports, while technology is one of its major exports. For instance, sophisticated Israeli risk-prevention systems have been installed at the Itaipú hydroelectric power plant, one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in the world.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the embassy reopening in Asuncion "represents a full historic circle after the embassy was closed in 2002, along with 15 other embassies around the world, due to budgetary constraints."

Jordan nabs massive haul of drug fueling Syria fighters
[IsraelTimes] Jordan says it has seized a "record" haul of more than 13 million Captagon pills, one of the most commonly used drugs among fighters in neighboring Syria.

The interior ministry says three alleged traffickers, including a foreigner, were placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in what it called "the most important seizure of drug tablets in the kingdom’s history."

A ministry statement says the pills were discovered hidden inside tumble dryers in the house of one of those arrested, near Amman.

Captagon is classified by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime as an "amphetamine-type stimulant" and usually blends amphetamines, caffeine and other substances.

There have been numerous reports of Captagon use among groups waging Syria’s war.
...and also numerous reports of jihadi groups, including ISIS, manufacturing and selling the stuff for fun and profit. The hangover throughout the region when the war peters out is going to be a doozy...
Jordan’s interior ministry says the haul of tablets was bound for "another country" without providing details.

Two police officers stabbed in Brussels
[IsraelTimes] Two police officers have been stabbed by a knife-wielding assailant in Brussels, Belgian media says.

The attack occurred in the heavily Muslim neighborhood of Molenbeek.

The two officers, both of whom were wearing bulletproof vests, were unharmed, according to Flandersnews.be.

The officers had approached the assailant to speak to him when they were attacked. One was stabbed in the stomach seven times, and another one stabbed once.

The attacker was apprehended after a short chase.

Molenbeek has been described by some as a hotbed of Islamism. Several terrorists from the March bombings in Brussels and the November attacks in Paris had been linked to the neighborhood.
Al Ahram adds:
A man attacked two police officers with a knife in a Brussels park on Wednesday but neither officer was hurt and there was no immediate indication that the assailant had a political motive, Belgian officials said.

A spokeswoman for the Brussels prosecutors office said the assailant had said nothing and the case had not been transferred to federal counter-terrorism specialists.

Clinton Foundation Deceived IRS On Tax Exemption From The Start
BLUF: [Daily Caller] The foundation’s revenues during the years up to 2004 exploded from $6.1 million in 2000 to $80 million.

The Clinton Presidential Library and Museum was dedicated in Little Rock Nov. 18, 2004.

The Clinton Foundation has raised an estimated $1.5 billion in the years since 2004.

Charles Ortel, an expert in non-profit governance and a determined critic of the Clinton Foundation, argues that "to informed analysts, the Clinton Foundation appears to be a rogue charity that has neither been organized nor operated lawfully from inception in October 1997 to date."

Ortel claims the foundation "has never been validly authorized to pursue tax-exempt purposes other than as a presidential archive and research facility based in Little Rock, Arkansas."

Russia voices profound concern over Turkish troops' movement into Syria
"The Russian Foreign Ministry has voiced profound concern over the Turkish troops' movement into Syrian territory.

"Russia's Foreign Ministry expresses serious concern in connection with the movement of the Syrian troops and paramilitary formations of the Syrian opposition, supported by them, inside Syrian territory," the ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

"We are paying attention to the fact that these actions are being conducted without coordination with the legitimate Syrian authorities and without approval on the part of the UN Security Council," it said.

"This puts in question the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic," the statement said.

"With account for that, the position of Damascus appears fair and justified from the international-legal viewpoint," it said.

"We are proceeding from the fact that Turkey's actions may additionally complicate the already difficult military-political situation in Syria, negatively affect the international efforts to develop a platform of settlement ensuring a more stable nature of the regime of cessation of hostilities, uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid laying the foundation for a solid peace and helping overcome the crisis in that country," the ministry said.

Moscow called on Ankara to "place these tasks higher that the immediate military tactical goals and abstain from steps fraught with further destabilization of the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic."

Turkey's Armed Forces and the FSA currently control the 90-kilometer line along the border between the cities of Azaz and Jarabulus up to 4-5 kilometers deep. But the operation command's plans include expansion of the zone liberated from the IS further to the south. "

In Laos, Obama Repeatedly Calls Americans ‘Lazy’
[THEFEDERALIST] During a townhall meeting in Laos, President Barack Obama
If you like your coverage you can keep it...
called Americans "lazy" multiple times.

For one, Obama said Americans’ reluctance to embrace his favored environmental policies is a sign of laziness.

"Usually when you see the environment destroyed, it’s not because it’s necessary for development," Obama said. "It’s usually because we’re being lazy and we’re not being as creative as we could be about how to do it in a smarter, more sustainable way."

He also accused Americans of being isolated and ignorant because the United States is such a big country.

"The United States is and can be a great force for good in the world. But because we’re such a big country, we haven’t always had to know about other parts of the world," he said. "If you’re in the United States, sometimes you can feel lazy and think we’re so big we don’t have to really know anything about other people."

Agreed, 1000%.

In my opinion, much of the blame falls squarely on that portion of our population too lazy and gullible to realize-- or accept-- that the crap they watch every night on CNN/NBC/CBS/ABC/MSNBC is anything but crude Leftist propaganda concocted to con them into vote Democrat.

But a far larger share of the blame belongs to those doing the conning. They must go.

ISIS affiliates in Libya's Sirte were paid to keep women as slaves
[Libya Observer] While the radical group of ISIS is losing in Sirte, new documents have been found showing the group's funding to its bully boyz to get married and keep women as slaves.

The media office of al-Bunyan al-Marsoos released Tuesday receipts, found inside the financial administration of so-called Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
tania Province of IS, showing the preferential treatment given to the group's foreign bully boyz over the city's local residents.

One of the receipts dated back to January 2016, showed that a Sudanese citizen, nicknamed Abu Saad al-Sudani, had been granted a monthly bonus of LYD 300 dinars for keeping 3 women as slaves.

Money was also paid to other members of the group to help them get married. According to receipts dated back to March and April 2016, LYD 2500 dinars were paid to Tunisian national Abu Noor al-Tunisi, LYD 1000 dinars to Egyptian Abu Wakkas al-Masri and LYD 1000 dinars to Sudanese Abu Zainb al-Sudani.

A Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
ese national, nicknamed Abu Khobaib al-Senegali, had also received LYD 2320 as previous dues. Another receipt has shown that LYD 18450 dinars were paid to a foreign Death Eater nicknamed Abu Hamza al-Kinani as a monthly bonus for Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar, which could be the highest monthly amount ever paid.

The obtained receipts prove that all payments were only given to the group's foreign members.

The large amount of the group's money came from Zakat (alms-giving) collection, which is taken from wealthy people and paid to the group's Death Eaters. Failure to pay Zakat means death sentence.

In Islam, there are eight categories of people to be the proper recipients of Zakat. ISIS has only used the seventh category, which is giving Zakat to those fighting for a religious cause or for Jihad.

Syrian rebels ruthlessly behead wounded soldier asking for water
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels posted a brutal video via their social media accounts on Wednesday, showing a captured soldier being ruthlessly beheaded by two bad boys.

During the minute and a half long video, the jihadist rebels ask the captured soldier if he has any "last words," he replies that he would like a drink of water.

The jihadist replies "there is no water for you, you are an infidel," and then proceeds to behead the maimed soldier.

The soldier’s name, per the video, was Bassel al-Issa Marouf of Latakia City ‐ his age and rank are unknown.

This is the second beheading video to be posted by the jihadist rebels from the northern Hama front in a matter of 5 days.

US-backed rebel groups like the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) are fighting alongside these jihadists, using US-manufactured weapons to aid them in their fight against the government.

Indian Forces gun down two more Kashmiri students
Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops killed two more students including a teenager in Baramulla districts raising the death toll to 91 in the uprising triggered by the killing of mujahid commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani by Indian troops on July 8 in the territory.

20 year-old Naseer Ahmad Dar was killed and over 150 people injured after Indian paramilitary personnel fired bullets and pellets on protesters at Seer Hamdan in Islamabad district.

A 35-year old woman, Tasleema was critically injured when she was hit by a teargas shell while a 17-year boy, Musaib Majeed Nagoo succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Srinagar. He was brutally injured by the Indian forces in Wadoora area of Baramulla district on Sunday.

More than 11,000 people have been injured in the Indian forces’ violent actions during the past two-month period.

The people however, have defied the restrictions and staged anti-India and pro-freedom rallies and protests in many areas of the occupied territory.

Meanwhile, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in their statements have rejected Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s remarks about Jammu and Kashmir and the Hurriyet leadership. They added that India was scared of any meaningful dialogue with Hurriyet leadership and Pakistan, as New Delhi had occupied Jammu and Kashmir illegally and forcibly

#1  Kashmiris would accept Pakistan up to the borders with India. It is hardly in Indian National Interests to allow the friendly Moslem peaceful access to an advance on the Indian Border. I seem to remember what the friendly peaceful Moslems did in Mumbai recently. After all there has been a WAR between both sides about every six or seven years.

Kashmiri Moslems are lucky they get off so easily. India could send some ethnic cleansing squads out ofter dark and deny it ever happened. And more of the same where that came from....sort of what Moslems ALREADY do with al-Badr brigades.

2 kops shot to death in Karachi
KARACHI: Two police officials were shot dead in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area of the metropolis on Wednesday night, it has been learnt.

"Suspects traveling in a car opened fire on two policemen," said SSP Karachi South Saqib Ismail Memon.

The armed assailants managed to escape from the crime scene immediately after the attack, he said.

The senior official said the policemen were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The policemen were on security duty with Dr Abdul Aziz, revealed Memon. "Dr Aziz has property dispute with his brother, in which one of his brother had already been killed," he added.

Dr Aziz told police that his younger brother, Abdul Wahab, allegedly orchestrated attack on him outside his house in which both his police guards were killed.

Police sources told Dawn that the doctor was provided guards as he was very close relative to a senior police officer.

The deceased were identified as Majid, 28, and Ishtiaq, 50.

"Policemen sustained critical bullet injuries which proved fatal," said Dr Seemin Jamali adding that both the constables were shot on their heads.

The Flight 93 Election
[Claremont.org] 2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die. You may die anyway. You--or the leader of your party--may make it into the cockpit and not know how to fly or land the plane. There are no guarantees.

More to the point, what has conservatism achieved lately? In the last 20 years? The answer--which appears to be "nothing"--might seem to lend credence to the plea that "our ideas haven’t been tried." Except that the same conservatives who generate those ideas are in charge of selling them to the broader public. If their ideas "haven’t been tried," who is ultimately at fault? The whole enterprise of Conservatism, Inc., reeks of failure. Its sole recent and ongoing success is its own self-preservation. Conservative intellectuals never tire of praising "entrepreneurs" and "creative destruction." Dare to fail! they exhort businessmen. Let the market decide! Except, um, not with respect to us. Or is their true market not the political arena, but the fundraising circuit?

Only three questions matter. First, how bad are things really? Second, what do we do right now? Third, what should we do for the long term?

Hillary bought her Blackberries off eBay
"While serving as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton bought her BlackBerrys off eBay -- since she preferred older models that the smartphone company had long retired -- a top Republican on Capitol Hill revealed.

"I don't want to get into this too much, but part of what was happening with the secretary of state was, she was acquiring technology that wasn't even supported by BlackBerry," House Oversight Chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz told a forum in DC on Wednesday, according to the Washington Examiner.

"You couldn't buy it. She was actually buying this stuff off of eBay because somebody was selling their old machine. That's what she liked, so she did. It creates this huge vulnerability. And it’s unnecessary," Chaffetz added in an appearance at the American Enterprise Institute.

Chaffetz's remarks come a week after the FBI released notes from its interview of Clinton, part of its investigation into her private email server.

The FBI notes revealed Clinton had 13 BlackBerry devices over the course of her four years as America's top diplomat. Clinton frequently lost or misplaced her smartphone, the notes said. And Bill Clinton aide Justin Cooper destroyed two old devices with a hammer."

Nuts!

And Bill Clinton aide Justin Cooper destroyed two old devices with a hammer.

Flash memory is very robust. He should have tossed the stuff into a furnace.

Nuts, too!

UK to send more troops to South Sudan
The UK is to expand its contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping force in South Sudan, raising the planned total from 300 to 400.

Although still small, the troop number marks a significant change on the part of the British. While contributing financially to UN peacekeeping operations, the UK has until recently limited its troop commitments to the 250 personnel in Cyprus.

The British troops heading to the world’s newest country will join a 12,000-strong UN force from 50 nations. The UK is also deploying about 40 troops to the UN force in Somalia combating the jihadi fighters of the al-Shabaab group.

The UK deployment will be formally announced by the defence secretary, Michael Fallon, in London on Thursday, at an international conference aimed at improving UN peacekeeping efforts.

South Sudan, which came into being in 2011, has for the last three years collapsed into a conflict which has left thousands dead and displaced an estimated 1.7 million people.

The British commitment comes against a background of tentative peace talks involving UN and African diplomats.

A small number of British troops arrived in the country over the summer, with the rest to be deployed later this year and next. They will mainly be engaged in engineering projects, while the extra 100 troops are due to help set up a field hospital. Others are attached to the UN peacekeeping headquarters in South Sudan.

Although the UK defence force has shrunk dramatically over the last decade and has scaled back on overseas deployment, ministers frequently talk up the involvement of British forces abroad.

Fallon will say on Thursday: “This large-scale deployment underlines how we are stepping up our global commitments. Backed by a rising defence budget, it’s part of our effort to tackle the instability that leads to mass migration and terrorism. It will help keep Britain safe while improving lives abroad.”

UN orders a probe to uncover entities that snuck arms into Libya
[Libya Observer] The UN envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, said the UN ordered a probe into the arms sneaking into Libya and is investigating the entities behind the arrival of those arms in the country, whether they arrived by sea or land.

"Transparency will be the key of the investigation whose results will be sent to the UN Security Council." Kobler added in a joint presser on Sunday with the Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs and African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
, Abdelkader Messahel.

Kobler also indicated that there are 26 million pieces of weapons in the hands of 6 million people, therefore hindering the grinding of the peace processor in Libya, questioning, "Where are they coming from?"

"We welcome the limited US military action in Libya to support the forces of al-Bunyan al-Marsoos in the Libyan war against IS diehards in Sirte, yet we condition this support with its assistance and usefulness as regards establishing peace in Libya." Kobler remarked.

Messahel, on the other hand, urged the UN to take a stand and stop the international parties that are impeding the political process in Libya, saying that all Libyan parties should take part in the political dialogue and in forming a national unity government.

"Foreign intervention in Libya is totally rejected here in Algeria because we believe such an intervention will complicate the issue and will do more harm than good." Messahel added.

Oliver Stone: Most War Movies Are klingon-Approved ‘Bullsh*t'
[Breitbart] Director Oliver Stone opened up about his forthcoming Edward Snowden biopic Snowden in a recent interview, and called most Hollywood war movies "bullsh*t" -- thanks to the CIA.

"What you’re seeing is bullsh*t. And a lot of the war pictures you see, you don’t get, you know, you get it after the Pentagon has sanitized it. And they lie. They lie. As long as it is pro-American, that’s all that matters," the three-time Oscar-winner said during an August 26 interview at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television.

Stone says "the Pentagon has taken over. CIA has taken over Hollywood in that sense."
Only Hollywood ?

Moving to closing paras:
During the Q&A, Stone also praised GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, who filmed scenes for the director’s 1987 classic Wall Street that were ultimately cut out of the finished film.

"He was good," Stone said of the real estate magnate. "I have no complaint. . . I talked to him, and he’s a charming man in person. As an actor, he was stunning."

Last month, Breitbart News reported that Edward Snowden plans to appear live in U.S. theaters via satellite alongside Stone for a special one-night event ahead of the highly anticipated biopic premiere.

Snowden hits theaters on September 16, and also stars Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, Scott Eastwood and Nicolas Cage. The film makes its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The 302 makes it more certain ‐ Hillary Clinton isn't fit to be president
[Wash Times] Last Friday was getaway day for a three-day holiday weekend as a Gulf hurricane was making landfall in Florida. So we had every right to expect a significant dump of controversial documents by the federal government while we were so distracted.

We were not disappointed. On Friday afternoon the FBI released a detailed report of its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, including a summary of her interview with FBI agents (the so-called "302").

I have previously said that the real "sin" in the email/private server debacle was the "original sin." Once you set it up this way, it would inevitably break bad. No one needed to be stupid, weak or corrupt (to use a few of Donald Trump’s favorite words) for this to end up in a bad place.

The press of business, the pace of events, the demands of travel would lead to hasty decisions, sloppy composition and bad judgments. Things would show up in the emails that just shouldn't be there.

I know of no government official who would welcome an army of inspectors general combing through four years of emails on their unclassified accounts. That’s why they use government accounts, where the government remains responsible for security, and they don’t mingle personal correspondence with official. That’s also why anyone with experience in these matters would label the Clinton setup as downright inconceivable. And that was it as far as I was concerned. Really bad decision, predictable results the end.

Al-Ghasri: Battle for sea district Jiza paves way for Sirte liberation
[Libya Observer] The front man of al-Bunyan al-Marsoos military operation, Mohammed al-Ghasri, said the end of the war on IS bully boyz in Sirte is looming as the Misrata-led forces are now battling IS in a 2 km area, pinpointing that they seized the entire residential area (1) on Monday.

Al-Ghasri added in a statement on Tuesday that all the festivities are now taking place in some parts of the residential area (3) and the military-sea district, Jiza, which lies to the north of the residential area (1) and next to the residential area (3).

"War will come to an end once this battle ended." al-Ghasri remarked.

"We’re still investigating the validity of the news that IS bully boyz have their families with them inside the area, where they are trapped." He indicated, pointing out that although the gunnies are of different nationalities and despite all the crimes they have committed so far, they have held Libyan girls as captives and are now dealing with them as "something" they own.

Al-Ghasri also added that Saturday’s battle against IS turbans was a great motivation for the fighters, who were so enthusiastically eager to battle the terrorists, leading to the death of 38 fighters, while on Sunday, only 9 fighters were also killed, he concluded.

13 al-Qaeda operatives die in US airstrikes in Yemen
The United States killed 13 al-Qaeda operatives in three counterterrorism strikes in Yemen from Aug. 24 to Sept. 4, the US military said on Tuesday.

All three of the strikes against the al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula targets were conducted in central Yemen’s Shabwah Governorate, US Central Command said in a statement. It did not specify how the strikes were carried out or the identities of those killed.

Late last month, a presumed US drone strike in southern Yemen killed three al-Qaeda suspects, a security official and a tribal source said. The strike hit a vehicle carrying the three alleged militants in the eastern suburbs of Ataq, the capital of Shabwa province, the official said.

Two of the suspects who were injured in the attack later succumbed to their wounds, a tribal source said, raising an earlier toll of one killed.

LCS Troubles May Stem From Double Engine
"After two years of embarrassing breakdowns in both variants of the embattled Navy Littoral Combat Ship, there are worrying signs that a reliability problem is built into the design. At issue: the unhappy combination of an unusually small crew struggling with a uniquely complex propulsion system, one that yokes gas turbines and diesel engines together.

That implies Vice Adm. Thomas Rowden's current stand-down to retrain LCS engineers -- and it's unprecedented to stand down an entire warship class -- will only solve part of the problem. A complete cure could require redesigning the engines. That's the kind of fundamental fix that would have to wait for the upgraded "frigate" model of the LCS and which couldn't be retrofitted to existing ships.

"The Navy may want to...in the frigate design, for example...come up with ways to simplify the propulsion architecture," said Bryan Clark of the Center for Strategic & Budgetary Assessments, a former top aide to the Chief of Naval Operations.

"It's not really fundamentally flawed so much as the architecture is hard to support," Clark said, which is particularly problematic for LCS's chronically overworked crew. Using a smaller gas turbine would reduce the ships' top speed, he said, but it would also make maintaining and operating it easier.

#5  CODAG (combined diesel and gas turbine) and CODOG (combined diesel or gas turbine) have been around for a relatively long time.

The issue is the treating the LCS like it's an aircraft. Hence the high reliance on automation, on-shore maintenance, and small crews that rotate on and off the vessels (and thus don't learn the idiosyncrasies of their assigned ship). The issue is, to be basic, is that a seagoing vessel is not an aircraft.

The late Monday blast went off near a hospital in the city’s Karradah district. According to reports the target of the attack was a Shia gathering in the neighborhood. The Takfiri terrorists claimed responsibility for the attack via a statement posted by the Amaq news agency, an affiliate of the group.

Police and medical officials say that the death toll from the incident is expected to rise.

The latest bomb attack took place in an area not far from the July attacks, which claimed the lives of over 300 people. 8 ISIS Turbans now pining for the fjords in Kunar
At least 8 loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed during an airstrike in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the airstrike was carried out in Shegal district, leaving 8 dead, 15 wounded, and an accommodation of the terrorist group destroyed.

The loyalists of the terror group have not commented regarding the report so far.

Kunar is among the relatively volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents are actively operating.

However, the ISIS loyalists have also increased their presence in the province as they attempt to expand foothold in the country despite major crackdowns against the group in eastern Nangarhar province.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) launched a major operation in Nangarhar to suppress the activities of ISIS loyalists in mid-July this year.

The US forces also provided support to the Afghan forces during the operation conducted in Kot, Achin and parts of the province where ISIS loyalists were conducting insurgency.

The US forces resumed operations against ISIS loyalists after the Obama administration granted them broader role to combat the terror groups in Afghanistan.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey, US 'ready to invade Daesh capital' Raqqa
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday suggested Turkey and the US are ready to drive Daesh from its Syrian stronghold of Raqqa.
Who's the "we" in this?
Erdogan said his US counterpart Barack Obama floated the idea of joint action against the militants when they met at the G20 summit in China. BBC reported, quoting Erdogan as saying, Turkey would have "no problem" with such action.

Last month Turkey launched an operation inside Syria, targeting both the Daesh and Kurdish rebels. Turkish-backed militia drove Daesh from the border town of Jarablus, but Turkey has also been concerned with checking the advance of Kurdish forces whom it regards as terrorists.

Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Canikli said Turkish forces might push deeper into Syria after securing a stretch of land along the border. Canikli also said 110 Daesh and Kurdish militia fighters had been killed since the operation began.

Russia, which is allied to Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, said it was "deeply concerned" by the Turkish advance.

Erdogan's comments on Raqqa were published in Turkish media. There has been no confirmation from the US.

"Obama wants to do some things jointly concerning Raqqa," Erdogan said. "We said this would not be a problem from our perspective."

"I said: 'Our soldiers should come together and discuss, then what is necessary will be done,'" Erdogan added.

Israeli warplane attacks Syrian Army in Golan Heights
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Israeli Air Force carried out an Arclight airstrike in the Golan Heights on Wednesday night, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at the predominately Druze town of Hader.

According to a military source in al-Quneitra, an Israeli attack drone struck the 1st Regiment’s headquarters in the town of Hader, causing significant damage to their equipment.

The source added that no casualties were reported by the Syrian Arab Army at the 1st Regiment headquarters, just material damage to the base.

Israel’s attack on Wednesday night is their second assault on the Syrian Arab Army in the last 5 days.

The previous Israeli attack was conducted in response to a rogue mortar shell that landed in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Al Masdar naturally ignores that there was a reason Israel's jets struck. The Times of Israel illuminates:
The Israeli Air Force overnight Wednesday-Thursday hit a number of positions belonging to the Syrian army after a projectile from the neighboring country struck an open area on the Israeli side of the Golan Heights earlier Wednesday evening.

Israel has said it holds the Syrian regime responsible for all errant fire, regardless of the source, and frequently retaliates against stray missile strikes inside its territory.

Unbelievable! Dems launch anti-gay attack ad
The Democrats have tried to bill themselves as a party of inclusion, and fierce defenders of LGBT rights. But apparently none of that applies to gay Republicans -- something one Congressional candidate is learning the hard way.

The LGBT community is furious after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee began airing on Arizona television attack ads against Sheriff Paul Babeu, an openly gay Republican running for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Fifteen years ago, Babeu served as headmaster of a private school in Massachusetts, which became the subject of thoroughly debunked rumors about student abuse.

But it looks like the Democrats aren’t going to let the truth get in the way of some good hate speech. Throughout the commercial, words like "sexual abuse" and "strip" flash across the screen. The ad ends with the ominous warning, "We can’t trust him with our kids."

Meanwhile, Babeau has served as a member of the National Guard, as a police patrolman, and as Pinal County sheriff, where hundreds of thousands of people (including children) have trusted him with their lives.

The ad is designed to make voters fearful of Babeu’s sexuality, nothing more, and points out longstanding hypocrisy within the Democratic Party toward LGBT issues."

Turkey can arrest 3 ruling party MPs
Turkey can arrest three MPs from ruling Justice and Development Party as part of the operation against the Fethullah Gulen movement, the Hurriyet newspaper reported Sept. 7.
Hillary is watching closely...
The names of the MPs, suspected of having ties with the Gulen movement, haven’t been disclosed.

Reportedly, 48 more MPs from the ruling party are also suspected of having ties with the Gulen movement. However, the country’s authorities haven’t yet confirmed this. Currently, 317 MPs are representing the Justice and Development Party in Turkey’s parliament.

According to Turkey’s law, before being arrested, MPs should be deprived of parliamentary immunity. [AnNahar] Lebanese authorities have arrested in Beirut an opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's rule, a media report said on Wednesday.

Turkey's post-coup crackdown widens

[DeutscheWelle] On Wednesday, the chief prosecutor's office in Ankara launched an investigation into 105 leaders suspected to belonging to the Gulen-linked terror organization FETO, Anadolu Agency said.

Three journalists working for the "Yenicag" newspaper were arrested and held in a sports hall in Ankara, the nationalist daily reported. A former lawmaker from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Turan Yaldir, was also detained in Ankara. He and the three reporters were critics of the Gulen movement, "Yenicag" reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a lack of space in the country's overflowing prisons has prompted authorities to release more than 35,000 convicts, excluding those imprisoned for crimes such as rape and murder.

Tens of thousands of people - including teachers, journalists, civil servants, soldiers and bureaucrats - have been arrested since a July 15 coup. Hundreds of thousands more have lost their jobs for alleged links with Fethullah Gulen, a US-based cleric accused of spearheading a spiritual movement among Turkish academics and businesses.

Turkey Seeks Arrest of Teachers for Using 'Gulen App'

[AnNahar] Turkish prosecutors on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for almost 150 teachers who allegedly used an encrypted messaging app employed by followers of the U.S.-based Muslim preacher authorities blame for the botched coup bid, state media said.

Police in the central Anatolian city of Kayseri launched an operation with 400 officers in a bid to detain 147 teachers accused of using the app ByLock, the Anadolu news agency said.

The teachers, who had already been suspended in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt, are accused of "breaching the constitution", "attempting to bring down the Turkish government", and "membership of an armed terrorist organization," according to the report.

Some of the suspects were detained, it said, without providing any exact number. The report did not give further details on what messages were exchanged via the app.

Turkish officials have said that the coup plotters used ByLock, a little-known messaging app, to coordinate the conspiracy.

However Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) began decrypting messages sent on ByLock from May last year, the officials have said. This enabled authorities in the wake of the coup to identify tens of thousands of Gulen followers, including top-ranking military personnel.

Officials say education was a key sector used by Gulen to spread his influence in Turkey, using loyal teachers and seeking to create a new generation of pupils sympathetic to his ideas.

Soviet documents ‘show Abbas was KGB agent’; Fatah decries ‘smear campaign’
[IsraelTimes] Israeli researchers: Notes from USSR archivist who defected indicate PA president was ’handled’ in 1980s

Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
was a Soviet spy in Damascus in the 1980s, Israel’s Channel 1 television reported Wednesday, citing information it said was included in an archive smuggled out of the USSR.!

According to Channel 1’s foreign news editor Oren Nahari, the famed Mitrokhin archive, kept by KGB defector Vasily Mitrokhin, revealed that Abbas was a Soviet mole in Damascus in 1983.

The documents -- obtained by Israeli researchers Isabella Ginor and Gideon Remez -- purportedly show that Abbas, code-named Krotov (mole), worked under Mikhail Bogdanov, who was then stationed in Damascus and is today Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
’s envoy to the Middle East.

Bogdanov was caught in a diplomatic tussle earlier this week after trying to broker a summit between Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Moscow, who both claimed a willingness to meet while decrying the other for allegedly refusing.

Mitrokhin was a senior KGB archivist who defected to the UK in 1992, and his edited notes on various KGB operations were released in 2014. His handwritten notes remain classified by MI5.

The archivist’s notes on the KGB are considered among the most complete information available on Soviet intelligence operations. He claimed that the KGB recruited the then head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, Wadi Haddad, as an agent in the 1970s.

His writings also revealed that Haddad, operating under the code name NATSIONALIST, was given Soviet assistance in funding and arming the PFLP.

According to an Eastern Soviet bloc intelligence agent who defected to the US in the 1970s, the PLO, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Paleostine
... a breakaway faction of the Pöpular Frönt för the Liberation of Paleostine. The are regarded as the most intellectual of Paleostinian fedayeen groups, smoking cheap cigarettes and drawing heavily on Marxist-Leninist theory to explain their crappy lives. They can occasionally be seen strutting through the streets of Paleostine, dressed up like soldiers and lugging firearms, though they seldom manage to hit anything and then usually by accident. This may be because of their habit of wearing black masks that cut off most of their vision. That would also explain their habit of occasionally walking into walls, which is a well-known attribute of those immersed in true understanding of the dialectic...
and the PFLP all received help from the KGB.

Romanian Lt. General Pacepa told US officials that in 1972 that then-PLO leader Yasser Arafat closely collaborated with the KGB and the Romanian Securitate service, and PLO guerrilla fighters were secretly trained by Soviet intelligence agents.

In response to the Channel 1 report, Fatah official Nabil Shaath denied that Abbas was ever a KGB operative, calling the claim a "smear campaign" that attempted to distract from potentially Russian-led peace talks in Moscow.

Throughout his early life, Abbas developed a network of Paleostinian political activists from across the Arab world that would eventually become Fatah and the Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO).

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Abbas studied at the People’s Friendship University of Russia, where he wrote his doctoral thesis, "The Secret Relationship between German Nazis and Zionists," which has been accused of denying the scope of the Holocaust.

After earning his doctorate, Abbas moved to Tunisia where he took a more active role in PLO leadership, and worked his way up to chairman of the organization. He became PA president following Arafat’s death in 2004.

#5  Russias_Proxy_War_Against_Israel

Long before 1967, Russia had planned to make Israel the site of an initial conflict with the West. Drawing from the Mitrokhin archive, it is clear that the Soviet Union had, in 1964-66, stashed war materiel in Israel.
May 13, 1967: The KGB, having planted agents among the Egyptian President's closest advisers, warns Egypt to expect "an Israeli invasion of Syria immediately after Independence Day, with the aim of overthrowing the Damascus regime." No invasion took place. Simultaneously, Russia supported terrorist organizations in the area, as witnessed by Abba Eban.
The Six-Day War in 1967: Russia officially cuts ties with Israel. According to the testimony of former Soviet personnel, there had been a plan to strike Israel and the Dimona reactor a year in advance. Fearing a nuclear Israel, the Soviet Union flew reconnaissance flights over Dimona, correctly predicting this would provoke Israel to strike first.
Following cues from the Soviet Union, Egypt's second in command insisted on Egypt's military destruction of the Dimona facility but never had the opportunity due to Israel quickly routing Egyptian forces.
The US Embassy in Cairo, along with Israeli Intelligence, believed that Egypt and Syria had the full backing of the USSR. A KGB officer and second secretary of the Soviet Embassy left Deputy Undersecretary of State Raymond L. Garthoff with the impression that US involvement in the Six Day War would draw the Soviet Union into the conflict. Egypt Embassy's political counselor warned that, “[The] Soviet objective is to transform Arab-Israeli struggle into showdown between Communists and anti-Communists for control of Middle East, and Soviets are succeeding.”
The Soviet premier himself would warn in a cable to the President, “A very crucial moment has now arrived which forces us, if military actions are not stopped in the next few hours, to adopt an independent decision. We are ready to do this. However, these actions may bring us into a clash which will lead to a grave catastrophe….We propose that you demand from Israel that it unconditionally cease military action.…We purpose to warn Israel that if this is not fulfilled, necessary actions will be taken, including military.”
On June 5, orders came for a detachment of Soviet volunteers for a landing, later aborted, on the Israeli coast. At the same time, the bomber and fighter/reconnaissance units, including MiG-21s, were put on full combat alert.
The Commander of the Soviet Navy had given standing orders that, “If the Israelis try to blockade the Egyptian or Syrian coast, or to hamper the activity of Soviet vessels bringing arms and materiel to these countries, steps should be taken and arms used if necessary.” There are also unconfirmed reports of minor skirmishes between Soviet and Israeli ships, that fortunately ended without escalation.
As a result of the conflict, Israel lost 779 soldiers. Egypt lost 80% of its military equipment, new and Russian built, 11,500 soldiers and officers killed, 5,000 soldiers and 500 officers captured, and 20,000 troops wounded. Jordan suffered 23,000 killed and wounded. Syria suffered 7,500 dead and wounded. The Syrians lost half of their tanks and almost all the artillery they had positioned on the Golan Heights.
At the end of the Six Day War, the USSR threatened a naval landing on Israeli shores, complete with air support. Evidence from intelligence agencies indicates the threat was not empty.
Paradoxically, the military failure of the Soviet Union's allies served to strengthen the USSR's position, as those states were now dependent on the Soviet Union for military and diplomatic support.
July 1967: Moscow launched a propaganda campaign against Zionism as a "world threat" and "all-powerful international force.”
February, 1968: According to a CIA memo, “the first information received regarding Soviet plans to participate in a limited Arab offensive against Israel.…The Soviets will actively aid the Arabs in gaining back the territory lost in the June 1967 war.”

February 4, 1969: Yasser Arafat is made Chairman of the PLO, which subsequently establishes a firm relationship with Russia. As Russia's support of Egypt waned, the PLO saw more support in the form of arms and training from the KGB. Europe
Britain to start building anti-migrant wall in Calais
[IsraelTimes] Construction on 4-meter high concrete barrier to begin this month, as Europe struggles with biggest influx in decades

Britannia hopes a four-meter high (13 foot-high) concrete wall will succeed where security guards and barbed wire have failed, and stop migrants colonists reaching the UK from the northern French port of Calais.

Construction for the barrier will this month and should be completed by the end of this year, officials said.

The wall, which will be funded by the British government under an agreement struck at a summit in March, will complement a security fence already put up around the port and entrance to the Channel Tunnel.

"We are going to start building this big new wall very soon. We’ve done the fence, now we are doing a wall," Home Office Minister Robert Goodwill told a parliamentary committee on Tuesday.

Calais, known as "the jungle," a squalid camp of tents and makeshift shelters, is home to some 7,000 migrants colonists but charities say the number might be as high as 10,000 after an influx this summer.

The wall, which is expected to cost 2.7 million euros ($3.0 million), will be the latest barrier to go up around Europe as the continent struggles with its biggest migrant influx in decades.

Thousands of people, most from the Middle East and Africa, have made long and dangerous journeys to Calais, crossing the Mediterranean to southern Europe in overcrowded boats and then traveling hundreds of miles by foot, car or rail to northwest La Belle France.

For many, the goal is to reach Britannia -- attractive because of its English language and relatively open labor market -- by stowing away on trucks and trains through the Channel Tunnel.

Moslem colonists Migrants make regular attempts to walk through the tunnel -- used by passenger trains and vehicle shuttles -- or to block roads in an attempt to slow down trucks so they can climb aboard.

To stop people sneaking into Britannia, blocking traffic and risking lives, authorities have poured in coppers and built high barbed-wire fences to keep people away from Eurotunnel freight trains, the port and the highway.

But desperate migrants colonists are using increasingly dangerous tactics to slow trucks and hitch a ride. Aid group Auberge des Moslem colonists Migrants says 11 migrants colonists have died this year -- seven on the highways.

On Monday, truckers, farmers, dock workers and merchants blocked a main access road to protest the disruption, as well as the fines they face if caught carrying stowaways.

But truckers’ groups were cool to the idea of a wall. Richard Burnett, chief executive of Britannia’s Road Haulage Association, said the money "would be much better spent on increasing security along the approach roads."

Europe
More on the Paris 'gas cylinder' incident
French police are seeking a young woman after a car carrying seven gas cylinders was discovered near Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris, police and judicial officials have said.

A couple, aged 34 and 29, were also arrested on a motorway in southern France in connection with the incident and remain in custody, one official told Reuters on Wednesday.

The car owner – who officials said was on an intelligence services watchlist of people suspected of religious radicalisation – was arrested but later released because he had gone to police on Sunday to report that his daughter had disappeared with his car.
How .. convenient...
His daughter, now sought by police, is 19 years old and was known to police for having the intention of leaving for Syria, officials said.

The car owner told investigators that his daughter was radicalised, according to a police source quoted by Agence France-Presse.

The Peugeot 607, which had no registration plates, contained seven gas cylinders, one of them empty, on the front passenger seat, police said. It was found on Saturday with its hazard lights flashing as if to attract attention, they said.

Interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve said he was waiting for a report from investigators on what the possible motives were for the incident.

There was no detonating device present in the car, found on a Seine riverside stretch called the Quai de Montebello, metres from the Notre-Dame cathedral, one of Paris’s many popular tourist attractions. Documents with writing in Arabic were also found in the car.

Florence Berthout, the mayor of Paris’s fifth arrondissement (district), said the incident highlighted the need to beef up security and put more police on patrol in one of the world’s most visited cities. She said the vehicle was left in a zone where parking is strictly prohibited and that it had remained there for around two hours before it came to the attention of police. “Police and army staffing must be stepped up,” she told the news TV channel BFM.

Africa North
Battles resume in Sirte
Cairo-Forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) have announced that battles against ISIS have resumed in Sirte, Libya, after a two-day suspension.

The forces announced that they have also started combing the liberated areas to clear them of mines or weapons.

Media Center of Solid Structure distributed photographs of the clashes in the area of maritime Jiza as well as the Mahla Bank, which are now under the control of the pro-GNA forces.

In addition, demining units uncovered a number of mines and explosives in one of the liberated neighborhoods after ISIS fled the area.

Since Solid Structure’s initiation, the Air Force Academy in Mesratah did around 600 sorties against ISIS positions in Sirte and in the desert to the south of the city. The Academy has been turned into a base in the battle against ISIS.

Mohammad Qanono, a spokesman at the airbase, said: “Quashed any fantasy ISIS might have had, prevented it from expanding and limited the movements of its members.”

“We asked for… U.S. air strikes because the U.S. air force is very precise,” added Qanono.

Tunisian Defense Minister Farhat Hachani said that North African countries should be cooperating more to stop ISIS fighters who are fleeing their Libyan stronghold of Sirte from returning to their homelands and causing trouble there.

Libyan forces loyal to U.N.-backed GNA initiated several attacks on Sirte to regain control from ISIS terrorists.

Tunisia estimates that about 4,000 of its citizens flew to fight alongside extremist groups and fears they might relocate inside the country.

Hachani told journalists on the sidelines of the meeting of military officials in Paris: “The danger is real is that chose to leave Sirte are heading south to eventually join Boko Haram, but some are also going west.”

He added: “There isn’t a regional strategy. Neighboring countries are managing the day to day security and military question … but while there are terror laws, you need proof that a young person was in a camp or fighting in jihadist ranks.”

The minister also declared that the international cooperation is “not up to the level of the danger, saying that “we are in a decisive moment. The threats endanger the entire region. We have to cooperate before the boat sinks.”

His French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian said the spread of militants outside of Libya should be dealt with.

“They don’t just disappear so there’s a new risk there and only a real cooperation between all neighboring countries will enable us to face that threat,” Le Drian said.

On another note, the Italian coast guard announced it had recovered the bodies of 15 refugees and rescued 2,700 others off the Libyan coast on Monday.

“More than 2,700 people were rescued … Fifteen bodies were recovered in the operations,” the coast guard said in a statement.

Former Italian Minister of Defense Ignazio La Russa told AKI news agency that he hoped Italy would send a military delegation to Libyan ports to monitor refugee boats. He called for refugee centers in Libya to receive those who are trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea.

More from Libyan Herald

Tripoli, 6 September 2016:

At least seven terrorists have died in the last 24 hours while the Bunyan Marsous operations room has not reported any casualties among its fighters. The bodies of the dead IS men were discovered near the Wahda Bank, a sniper position overrun by BM yesterday.

Today the civil court was among positions taken from the terrorists.

As buildings are cleared of any booby traps, they have been searched. Among the finds has been a cache of documents detailing payments to fighters, most of them apparently non-Libyans, including Egyptians, Sudanese, Senegalese and Tunisian. Within them is a receipt for LD 300 paid by a Sudanese man, apparently for an abducted woman.

Besides caches of explosives, shells and light ammunition, some of the terrorists’ personal effects are also coming to light. These included family photographs and letters of Abu-Malek Al-Masry who was killed last week in the fighting that took the town’s Second District.

BM fighters, all now displaying a bright red identification flash on their clothing, have continued laying down fusillades of fire, shelling the remaining IS positions with tanks, anti-aircraft guns and RPGs. While some fighters persist in using daredevil tactics in open spaces, experienced BM snipers are seeking to suppress terrorist snipers who have claimed a regular toll among their attackers.

Bomb-disposal teams are meanwhile continuing to deal with booby-traps and mines, another major source of BM casualties. Over ten tonnes of collected explosives were detonated outside the town on Sunday in a huge blast that produced a plume of debris around .

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria conflict: Government helicopters ‘drop chlorine’ on Aleppo
[Dhaka Tribune] Syrian government forces have been accused of dropping barrel bombs containing chlorine from helicopters on a suburb of Aleppo, injuring 80 people.

Volunteer emergency workers say people suffered breathing difficulties after an attack on the Sukkari area.

The reports could not be independently verified. A UN-led inquiry concluded last month the that government had used chlorine on at least two occasions.

The Syrian government has always denied using chemical weapons.

It comes as Syrian opposition leaders prepare to meet in London on Wednesday to launch a new plan for a political transition to try to end the five-year civil war.

The umbrella group representing opposition factions, the High Negotiations Committee, will be hosted by UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Foreign ministers from the Friends of Syria group of countries, which have supported the rebellion against Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
, will also attend.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told the BBC that he still believed in a political solution to the conflict, and that Mr Assad was not in a "position of advantage or victory", despite his forces’ recent advances.

This new plan is the Syrian opposition’s most comprehensive answer to that question: What happens if President Assad goes?

It’s meant to reassure the president’s foreign backers, like Russia and Iran, that there can be a stable transition which avoids the collapse of state institutions, and violent chaos that’s shattered neighbouring states like Iraq. That’s a concern shared in many capitals, and most of all Damascus.

But the demand for President Assad and his closest Syrian allies to step down has always been rejected in Damascus, and will be again. It’s never clear how much Moscow and Tehran are able and willing to change that. This plan is meant to test that.

But the Syrian army, backed by powerful outside support, is making gains on the ground, through force, or local deals which amount to surrender. If this plan doesn’t work it will be back to Plan B ‐ more military support to all sides in a devastating war.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Porn site accounts exposed in huge, throbbing hack
Nearly 800,000 emails, passwords and usernames attributed to accounts on the Brazzers porn site forum have been leaked.
Oh noze! Almost a million members exposed!
Originally reported to Motherboard by vigilante.pw, a breach monitoring watchdog, the hack contained over 900,000 individual records. Aside from inactive or duplicate accounts, that meant some 790,724 unique email addresses, usernames and plaintext passwords are now out in the ether.
The site has been penetrated!
Though the data came from the site's separate forum, other users of the site were reporting their data had been included in the breach as accounts were shared between the two sites for convenience.
Sighing with pleasure, the invaders thrust deeply into the hot, welcoming site...
The breach was due to vulnerabilities in the vBulletin forum management software, according to Brazzers publicity manager Matt Stevens. It's not the first time the software has been blamed for stolen passwords, with millions of accounts stolen from other vBulletin-powered forums earlier this year.
The accounts were spread wide, inviting and available...
While it may not be quite as compromising as the recent Ashley Madison hack and subsequent extortion attempts, the slightly older cache of passwords still points to the need for encrypted password security.
Cue the sleazy saxophone music!
Brazzers did not immediately respond to request for comment.
They lay as though stunned, y'might say?

Boko Haram members clash over leadership
[NAIJ] A major fight has broken out among members of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
terrorist group following the announcement of a new leader for the group by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, the AFP has reported.

Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the son of Boko Haram’s founder Mohammed Yusuf, was named as the new leader of the group recently causing a battle for supremacy between him and the hitherto known leader, Abu Shekau. Shekau announced days later that he remained the leader of the sect. The military also reported recently a strike that dealt a major injury on Shekau.

AFP quoted sources as confirming the clash between factions of the group that has killed over 20,000 people and rendered millions homeless since 2009. The report said last week, while the military continued to decimate the sect, two festivities between the factions of the group led to the death of many loyalists of Shekau in the Monguno area of Borno state near Lake Chad.

The foreign news source quoted one Mele Kaka, a resident of the area, as saying: "The Barnawi faction launched an offensive against the Shekau faction who were camped in the villages of Yele and Arafa.

"In Yele, the assailants killed three people from the Shekau camp, injured one and took one with them, while several were killed in Arafa."

Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the new leader appointed by ISIS for Boko Haram Kaka said the clash caused residents of Arafa to flee just as the report added that a day before, members loyal to Barnawi attacked gunnies loyal to Shekau in Zuwa village in Marte district, killing an unspecified number.

"The Barnawi fighters told villagers after each attack that they were fighting the other camp because they had derailed from the true jihad and were killing innocent people, looting their property and burning their homes.

"They said such acts contravene the teachings of Islam and true jihad," Kaka said.

Hajiya Aisha Wakil, believed to be close to the sect, had recently said the gunnies were ready for dialogue and release of some of the kidnapped 219 school girls from Chibok.

China-Japan-Koreas
The US is bogged down in the Middle East — and China knows it
[BusinessInsider] Many years ago, the Obama administration had a good foreign policy idea. Remove your jaw from the floorboards and stay with me on this one.

Barack Obama was elected during a period of tense ceasefire in the Middle East. The violence in Iraq had dwindled, and new sanctions on Iran quickly rendered Tehran economically impotent. After years of immersion in Mesopotamia, it seemed we could finally move on, and so the Obama administration redirected its efforts towards East Asia.

Early Obama gestures towards Asia seemed astute. Having inherited America’s strongest relationship with China since before the Tiananmen Square massacre, Obama set about trying to expand our channels of cooperation. Washington also joined negotiations over the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which the White House saw as a way to unleash commerce and, later, as a restraint on China, which wasn’t party to the talks.

This was sound policy, but it also rested on a mirage: that Obama’s overtures towards the Middle East and Asia would allow us to decamp from the former and swoop into the latter. Today, neither of those propositions has borne out: the Middle East is ablaze, East Asia is a far more dangerous neighborhood than before, and we’ve spent another eight years staring glassily into the Mesopotamian sand.

Part of it has to do with events beyond the White House’s control. The Arab Spring can’t be blamed on Obama (though our daft abandonment of allies like Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak certainly can), and, contra the hawks, ISIS’s rampage isn’t his fault either. Obama also isn’t culpable for our invasion of Iraq, which sparked the current Sunni-Shia cold war. But Obama’s naiveté and missteps fueled this fire, too. When he should have been avoiding vacuums that might have been filled by jihadists, the president cheered and encouraged the Arab Spring. When he should have been worrying about al Qaeda in Northern Africa, he invaded Libya and helped depose Moammar Gaddafi, leading to a proliferation of terrorism there.

Where he should have seen extremists in the Syrian rebels, he instead saw democrats, and wasted more than two years arming an al Qaeda-infested insurgency. He also assumed what was left of the war on terrorism could continue via drone, never accounting for the blowback that’s left extremists in Yemen and Afghanistan even more fortified than before.

It’s a shame. Rather than going another six rounds in Iraq, the United States should have really and truly pivoted to Asia, bolstering its relationships with Asian Pacific nations like Vietnam and South Korea, and banding them together to form a front against Chinese and North Korean aggression. That doesn’t mean doing something stupid, like provoking Beijing or starting a trade war, and it doesn’t mean a return to nation building. But it does mean strengthening our allies to check Beijing. Instead, the Middle Eastern millstone weighs around our necks and Chinese ambitions seem almost peripheral.

We have few serious interests in the Middle East, especially now that fracking has made us a petro-power. We don’t need to abandon it to its fate, but we also can’t ignore the problems mounting in East Asia, where China is building militarized islands in waters crucial for international trade, and North Korea, Beijing’s yapping little dog, has a longer leash than ever.

Encouragingly, some Asian nations are stepping up to balance the Chinese threat. Unfortunately, those are pebbles in the pond and they’ve only heightened Chinese aggression. Meanwhile, the Obama administration’s failure to sell the TPP to the public could scuttle an important economic counterbalance to Chinese power.

It is clear that the future of American foreign policy will be decided in Asia, not necessarily in the Middle East. But thanks to 15 years of foolish interventions and besotted idealism, that pivot is proving difficult. The next president should spin us on our heel.

#1  The only thing I can parse from the article is that the author thinks the world sucks and the most charitable explanation for US Policy is that the Obama crew were well-meaning idiots. Is the fact that this was in BusinessInsider mean that is what the Hamiltonians are currently thinking?

#2  As per the TOM SULLIVAN SHOW on Fox Radio this AM, the Bammer = US was perceived or sensed as weak by the majority of the G20 Nations in Beijing, something which could still lead to major, unresolvable FP problems for the Bammer Admin + spill over into a Trump or Hillary Admin.

Perceived US strategic weakness is something the Bammer supposedly does not want for his "legacy".

F'd up the middle east by withdrawing from Iraq and destabalizing Libya and Syria, yes.

China is seeing the US become oil independent due to fracking and realizes we probably won't even try to keep the peace much longer so if they want a safe and steady flow of oil they better do something themselves. They are welcome to try.

Judge Nap: Hillary's Email Scandal Is 'Far Worse' Than Watergate (Video)
Judge Andrew Napolitano joined Bill Hemmer on "America's Newsroom" today to weigh in on the latest in the Hillary Clinton email scandal, including Mike Pence's accusation that the Democratic nominee engaged in the same kind of conduct that brought down Richard Nixon's presidency.

Sadly this investigation has long since past the point of credibility. It is now little more than a sophomoric cover up.

#2  None-the-less, Comey says there is nothing to see here--no prosecutable case. However, many other attorneys say otherwise. The nexis of the corruption and the blockage at the DOJ is with Obama and Lynch. Everyone knows now that direction comes from the Clintons. A disconnect occurs for me because Comey says not a prosecutable case and yet there are many other documents that are yet to be released by the FBI and others such as Assange--He doesn't know what documents exist outside of the FBI. I guess he is between a rock and a hard place--it is hard to tell where he's at; honest cop in a tight spot or part of the larger problem.

His boss said it's not a prosecutable case, so it isn't. He could have proceeded with it anyway and forced them to fire him, but the case would still not be prosecuted. The Grand Turk
No talks on death penalty in Turkish parliament
Reinstating the death penalty in Turkey hasn’t been put up for consideration by the country’s parliament, the TRT Haber news channel quoted Turkey’s Minister for the EU Affairs Omer Celik as saying Sept.7. The minister noted that for the present, Turkish parliament doesn’t plan to consider this issue.

Turkey cancelled the death penalty in 2001. Reinstating the death penalty was discussed after the military coup attempt in Turkey. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had said the death toll as a result of the military coup attempt stood at 246, excluding the coup plotters, and over 2,000 people were wounded.

Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in Turkey on July 20.

Female genital mutilation needed because Egyptian men are 'sexually weak', says MP
A lawmaker in Egypt has argued in favour of the practice of female genital mutilation, saying women should "reduce their sexual desires" because Egyptian men are "sexually weak".

"We are a population whose men suffer from sexual weakness, which is evident because Egypt is among the biggest consumers of sexual stimulants that only the weak will consume," said Elhamy Agina, according to Egyptian Streets, an English-language local news website. "If we stop FGM, we will need strong men and we don't have men of that sort."

So it is better for women, he continued, to undergo the brutal practice to "reduce a woman's sexual appetite". And by doing so, he added, women would "stand by their men" and life would proceed smoothly.

The centuries-old practice involves the partial or full removal of the external sex organs, usually with a knife or razor blade, in a belief that doing so reduces sexual desires. The cutting can lead to urinary infections, menstrual problems, infertility and death, in addition to psychological trauma.he practice was banned in Egypt in 2008. Since then, circumcising girls has been punishable by a prison sentence of between three months and three years as well as a hefty fine. Still, FGM remains a widespread practice here, as it is in many other African nations and parts of the Middle East.

According to the WHO, Egypt has some of the highest rates of FGM, in company with Somalia, Djibouti and Sierra Leone. A Unicef study in 2013 found that as many as 27.2 million women in Egypt have been circumcised.

The Egyptian cabinet recently approved a draft law that would impose stiffer penalties for those who force girls and women into FGM. Jail terms would range between five and seven years, and harsher sentences would be imposed if the procedure leads to death or deformity. In May, an Egyptian teenager died of complications after undergoing FGM, propelling the UN to urge Egypt to enact stricter punishments.

The new legislation is awaiting ratification by the parliament before it can become law.

Arabia
Houthi weapons smuggled through Djibouti
Aden-Despite the naval blockade imposed by coalition forces in Yemen since the launch of “Decisive Storm” in March 2015, Houthi rebels and their ally ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh are still receiving high-tech and numerous military weapons from different sources in order to continue their war against Yemeni citizens.

The siege was not tight on Yemen, because, and according to officials from the coalition forces, the siege was not imposed on Yemeni citizens, instead, it was imposed on Houthi rebels.

However, facts showed that countries in the region facilitated the smuggling of arms without taking into consideration the U.N. resolutions and imposed sanctions.

Moreover, information provided indicated that Ali Saleh and his Houthi allies were working earlier and preparing for a coup d’état through regional support and arm dealers, which disclosed the scheme that targeted Yemen and other regional countries and answered the question regarding people’s money put in the central bank’s treasury that are estimated to be around $5 billion dollars in addition to government revenues that are also estimated to be millions of Yemeni Riyals.

In the journalistic investigation, which was published by Reuters on Tuesday, and took place in Brazil, new facts regarding arms smuggling and dealing were revealed.

The report explained that these deals were concluded through mediators and international arm dealers, who had close relation with the regime of ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Brazil’s Forjas Taurus SA, the largest weapons manufacturer in Latin America, sold guns to a known Yemeni arms trafficker, who funneled them into his nation’s civil war in violation of international sanctions, according to charges in court documents reviewed by Reuters.

Federal prosecutors in southern Brazil charged two former executives of Forjas Taurus (FJTA4.SA) in May with shipping 8,000 handguns in 2013 to Fares Mohammed Hassan Mana’a, a Yemeni arms smuggler active around the Horn of Africa for over a decade according to the United Nations.

The handguns were allegedly shipped by Taurus to Djibouti and redirected to Yemen by Mana’a, according to court documents.

Alexandre Wunderlich, a lawyer for the two former Taurus export executives, Eduardo Pezzuol and Leonardo Sperry, said the accusations in the sealed indictment “do not reflect the facts of the matter.”

Mana’a, who served from 2011 to 2014 as governor of Sa’dah, a Houthi stronghold, could not be reached for comment.

A Brazilian court issued a public summons for Mana’a in May as part of a case citing him, Sperry and Pezzuol as defendants.

Taurus declined to answer detailed questions on the weapons case due to legal confidentiality but said it was “helping the courts to clarify the facts.”

Prosecutors say the two former Taurus executives were negotiating another shipment of 11,000 guns with Mana’a last year when police uncovered the plot and raided the company’s offices in November.

Prosecutors have not brought charges against Taurus but said evidence seized in the raid included dozens of emails showing it knew of U.N. sanctions against trading arms with Mana’a and Yemen but sought ways to skirt them.
