Brussels Terror: Two Police Officers Stabbed In Terror Neighbourhood As Rail Station Evacuated
[Breitbart] Two police officers were attacked and stabbed in a suspected terror attack in the Brussels suburb of Schaarbeek at lunchtime Wednesday, as one of the city's main rail stations was closed by a bomb threat.

The two events took place near simultaneously in the Belgian capital this afternoon. The Brussels Nord station was evacuated by police and army troops with armored personnel carriers stationed outside as the bomb squad searched the location for explosives.

The city's main north-south rail line was temporarily closed, with the station re-opening and trains resuming by 3pm local time.

Meanwhile, in the Islamist terror-linked neighborhood of Schaarbeek two plainclothes police officers were injured after being attacked by a knife-wielding man. Flanders News reports the officers received wounds to the neck and stomach, and one of them is in serious condition. Although the attacker, who was described by an eye witness as being "strongly built and wearing a sweatshirt with a hood", attempted to flee the scene he was shot in the leg and incapacitated by police.

Government
Man - king - gaud's tragic admission: He's learned nothing as president
[NYP] News flash: President Obama didn't learn anything in eight years in the White House. And he's proud of it.

As Obama admitted in an interview with New York magazine: "If you go back and you read speeches I made when I was running for the US Senate in 2003, or if you go back further and you look at statements I made when I was on the Harvard Law Review, my worldview is pretty consistent."

The comment was a point of pride, which makes it doubly tragic. Once the smartest man in the room, always the smartest man in the room.

Never mind that the world is on fire, that America is polarized, angry and scared. Or that ObamaCare is a sick patient, that the economy is growing at a snail’s pace and that many cities are racial war zones.

It's not Obama's fault. None of it. He would do it all again.

With voters fixated on his successor, Obama is fixated on his legacy. A large part of his effort on the way out the door is explaining what he did, and insisting that what he did was right. Always.

Revealed: How Bill Clinton plotted to 'bushwhack' attorney general on airport tarmac and got a promise that Hillary wouldn't be prosecuted over classified emails
"Hillary Clinton was never in any danger of prosecution for mishandling classified documents on her infamous homebrew email server, according to a book set to rock the election season.

The fix was in, thanks to Bill Clinton's plan to ambush Attorney General Loretta Lynch when their private jets were at the Phoenix airport at the same time.

The former president told his pilot to abort a takeoff, according to Ed Klein in his latest book, 'Guilty as Sin,' when a Secret Service agent told him Lynch was about to land.

'Don't take off!' Bill shouted.

The meeting, which began minutes later and lasted a half-hour, took place just one week before FBI director James Comey announced publicly that the Democratic presidential nominee was in the clear."

Terror Networks
ISIS Calls for Random Knife Attacks in Alleys, Forests, Beaches, 'Quiet Neighborhoods'
[PJ] A new magazine issued by the Islamic State advises lone jihadists to get over any squeamishness about using knives and embrace sharp objects as "widely available" weapons of jihad in nighttime stabbing campaigns.

ISIS' Al-Hayat Media Center issued the second issue of its magazine Rumiyah, meaning Rome, in English, Turkish, German, French, Indonesian, Russian, Arabic and Uyghur. The design of the magazine is more simple than ISIS' English-language Dabiq. It's also much shorter: 38 pages compared to the 82 pages in the last issue of Dabiq.

In the first issue of Rumiyah, which debuted a month ago, jihadists were advised to target teens playing sports after school or even flower sellers hawking blooms on the street.

In the new PDF issue distributed widely via social media and Google Drive, an article on terror tactics assures would-be jihadists that "one need not be a military expert or a martial arts master, or even own a gun or rifle in order to carry out a massacre or to kill and injure several disbelievers and terrorize an entire nation."

A footnote in the article states that ISIS won't be using the term "lone wolf," but "just terror operations" -- "just" as an adjective for "justice." Al-Qaeda calls lone operations "open-source jihad."

Hinting that the article is one in a forthcoming series about terror tactics, ISIS focused on the benefits of knives to help potential terrorists with the "ocean of thoughts" that "might pour into one’s mind" when considering an attack.

"Many people are often squeamish of the thought of plunging a sharp object into another person’s flesh. It is a discomfort caused by the untamed, inherent dislike for pain and death, especially after 'modernization' distanced males from partaking in the slaughtering of livestock for food and the striking of the enemy in war," the unbylined article states. "However, any such squirms and discomforts are never an excuse for abandoning jihad."

ISIS suggested a "campaign of knife attacks" in which the attacker "could dispose of his weapon after each use, finding no difficulty in acquiring another one."

Europe
Rooshun heavy bombers do Euro fly-by
FOUR European countries were forced to scramble fighter jets after two Russian Blackjack bombers blasted across the continent, it has been revealed.
If you look at the flight plan as published in The Sun, the bombers stayed over the Atlantic the entire time. But I'm impressed they could fly all the way to Spain and back.
The UK, Norway, France and Spain all intercepted the TU-160 planes as they made a daring flight from Norway to northern Spain and back. During the flight, the bombers swooped across the top of Scotland, before skirting the west coast of Ireland, completing their route near northern Spain.

Spanish media has reported it is the furthest south such an operation has had to take place – while the frequency of Russian bombers being intercepted by Nato aircraft has significantly increased.

Although the incident occurred on September 22, the full details only emerged following an statement from the French Ministry of Defence.

According to the statement, the two bombers were first detected by Norway, which scrambled two F-16 jets to accompany them to the north of Scotland – where they were then intercepted by RAF Typhoon aircraft. French Rafale fighter planes then picked up the bombers after they skirted Ireland’s west coast, before Spain sent two F-18 jets to intercept the Russian planes north of Bilbao.

The RAF has confirmed that the Russian jets did not enter UK airspace at any point.

Iraq
Baghdad bridles at Turkey's military presence
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has warned Turkey that it risks triggering a regional war by keeping troops in Iraq, as each summoned the other's ambassador in a growing row.
As Erdogan might reply, "you and whose army?"
Relations between the two regional powers are already broadly strained by the Syrian civil war and the rise of the Islamic State militant group.

Turkey's parliament voted last week to extend its military presence in Iraq for a further year to take on what it called "terrorist organizations" - a likely reference to Kurdish rebels as well as Islamic State.

Iraq's parliament responded on Tuesday night by condemning the vote and calling for Turkey to pull its estimated 2,000 troops out of areas across northern Iraq.

"We have asked the Turkish side more than once not to intervene in Iraqi matters and I fear the Turkish adventure could turn into a regional war," Abadi warned in comments broadcast on state TV on Wednesday. "The Turkish leadership's behavior is not acceptable and we don't want to get into a military confrontation with Turkey."
Then perhaps you shouldn't provoke them right now...
Turkey says its military is in Iraq at the invitation of Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdish regional government, with which Ankara maintains solid ties. Most of the troops are at a base in Bashiqa, north of Mosul, where they are helping to train Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga and Sunni fighters.
And keep an eye on Kurdish Kommies...
Turkey's deputy prime minister, Numan Kurtulmus, said the deployment had become necessary after Islamic State's seizure of Iraq's second city, captured in 2014

"Neither Turkey's presence in Bashiqa nor its operation right now in Syrian territory are aimed at occupying or interfering with the domestic affairs of these countries."

Iraq's central government in Baghdad says it never invited such a force and considers the Turkish troops occupiers.

Tensions between Iraq and Turkey have risen with expectations of an offensive by Iraq and U.S.-backed forces to retake Mosul. Turkey has said the campaign will send a wave of refugees over its border and, potentially, on to Europe.
So stiffen your border. Iraqi refugees belong in Iraq.
Ankara worries that Baghdad's Shi'ite Muslim-led forces will destabilize Mosul's largely Sunni population and worsen ethnic strife across the region, where there are also populations of Turkmens, ethnic kin of the Turks.

Turkey is also uncomfortable with the arrangement of Kurdish forces expected to take part in the offensive. In northern Syria, where Turkey is backing rebels fighting Islamic State, Ankara has warned that Kurdish militias are "filling the vacuum" left by Islamic State. Fearing that this will boost the Kurdish rebellion across the border in southeast Turkey, it has threatened to "cleanse" them.
Turkey's great fear is 'Kurdistan', a union of Turk, Syrian, Iraqi, and Iranian Kurdish regions. Given that fear, the Turks seem to be hell-bent on provoking its formation...
Turkey announced late on Tuesday that it was summoning Iraq's ambassador to complain about the parliamentary vote.

"We believe this decision does not reflect the views of the majority of Iraqi people, whom Turkey has stood by for years and attempted to support with all its resources," Turkey's Foreign Ministry said. "We find it noteworthy that the Iraqi parliament, which has not said anything about the accepted mandate for years, puts this on the agenda as though it were a new development in times when terror is taking so many lives in Turkey and Iraq."

On Wednesday, Iraq summoned the Turkish ambassador to Baghdad to protest what it said were "provocative" comments from Ankara about the troop deployment.

Fifth Column
Special Operations: An Unofficial Form Of Self-Defense
[StrategyPage] The United States has sent hundreds of SOCOM (Special Operations Command) troops into areas like Syria and Libya to support rebels fighting ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant). The problem, according to the U.S. Army Special Forces troops involved, is that a lot of the "rebels" they are ordered to train and support with air support, medical care and so on are Islamic radicals who are likely to eventually join ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) or other similar hyper-violent Islamic terror groups.

Obama DOJ drops charges against alleged broker of Libyan weapons
[Politico] Arms dealer had threatened to expose Hillary Clinton's talks about arming anti-Qadhafi rebels.

The Obama administration is moving to dismiss charges against an arms dealer it had accused of selling weapons that were destined for Libyan rebels.

Lawyers for the Justice Department on Monday filed a motion in federal court in Phoenix to drop the case against the arms dealer, an American named Marc Turi, whose lawyers also signed the motion.

The deal averts a trial that threatened to cast additional scrutiny on Hillary Clinton’s private emails as Secretary of State, and to expose reported Central Intelligence Agency attempts to arm rebels fighting Libyan leader Moammar Qadhafi.

Government lawyers were facing a Wednesday deadline to produce documents to Turi’s legal team, and the trial was officially set to begin on Election Day, although it likely would have been delayed by protracted disputes about classified information in the case.

#3  From the Link:

Mr. Turi’s application for a license was rejected in late March 2011. Undeterred, he applied again, this time stating only that he planned to ship arms worth more than $200 million to Qatar. In May 2011, his application was approved. Mr. Turi, in an interview, said that his intent was to get weapons to Qatar and that what “the U.S. government and Qatar allowed from there was between them.”

Perhaps a follow-up call to Stevens provided the... 'way ahead ?'

As some have suggested, did the Turi and DoS gun running effort run counter to the ongoing Klingon mission in Benghazi ?

Chris Matthews: Pence Won Debate, Kaine Seemed ‘Desperate' at Times
[Free Beacon] Liberal MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R.) was the winner of Tuesday night’s vice-presidential debate with Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.), calling Kaine "desperate" regarding his repeated interruptions.

"Overall, I think the winner tonight will end up being, in terms of the debate and what they were trying to accomplish, Pence, because Pence really was solid," Matthews said. "He looked like he had his head screwed on, and I think that’s going to look very important for [Donald] Trump, who doesn’t often look like he has his head screwed on. I think it was very important for him to look like a grown-up."

Matthews said Pence made up for the mistakes made by his running mate Trump in the first debate with Hillary Clinton on Sept. 26, saying Pence’s "body language was excellent."

"He had to defend Donald Trump, but he came across as a grown-up, strong," Matthews said. "I thought he was very effective at being a conservative."

Matthews said Pence had made himself the frontrunner for the 2020 Republican nomination with his debate performance, saying he hit "all the bases" on conservative issues and even praising his eloquence on his pro-life position regarding abortion.

Kaine would not let Pence complete a single sentence. That was his strategy. He and his mistress do not want people to hear what Pence had to say. It's what Democrats do. When they can't present a decent argument themselves they drown out, shout down the opposition. It's dishonest and undemocratic. It's Democrats.

The only solution is to put both candidates in sound proof rooms where the moderator can switch off their microphones if they speak out of turn. But then, you'd have to trust the moderators who are employees of the MSM so the Republican candidate would never be heard at all.

Nearly one-third of Americans boycotting NFL because of BLM protests: poll
[Wash Times] Nearly one-third of American adults say they are less likely to watch a National Football League game because of the growing number of Black Lives Matter protests that are happening by players on the field, a Rasmussen poll found.

Thirty-two percent polled online and by telephone said they’re willing to skip NFL games this year because of player protests over racial issues, the pollster said on Tuesday. Only 13 percent said they were more likely to watch the games because of the protests, and 52 percent said the protests had no impact on their viewing decisions.

Twenty-eight percent of African Americans said they were more likely to tune-into an NFL game because of the protests, compared to 8 percent of whites and 16 percent of other Americans, the poll found.

Whites were twice as likely as blacks to say they are less likely to watch this year.

Chores get done in 1/4 of the time, instead of rubbernecking the tube. Its great.

To be honest, and as I have said, I grew up bleeding Chiefs red, and peeing Chiefs gold. The industry has been rubbing me raw with the personality-forward marketing approach, or as I call it the soccerization of sports in general and very much so with football. Fantasy this, he said what that, what outlandish personality commentator can we get - then those personalities told me I was responsible for a murder-suicide by a belligerent drunked up drug head whose baby's momma called him out for spending the night with a mistress.

This, this just does it. No more Latin month, no more pink month, no more wasted time. And the feeling has crept into my view of college ball.

Many of you have been waiting for this, some even asked me to do it.

So, this is the moment. I hacked the Clinton Foundation server and downloaded hundreds of thousands of docs and donor's databases.

Hillary Clinton and her staff don’t even bother about the information security. It was just a matter of time to gain access to the Clinton Foundation server.

As HRC Abandons Ohio, MSM Sez Ohio Is 'Too White and Uneducated' Anyway
[PJ] Hillary Clinton made two stops in my home state of Ohio Monday, visiting usual Democrat strongholds Akron and Toledo:

However, this is her first stop in the Buckeye State since before Labor Day, and media coverage over the past few days has hinted that Clinton may be writing off the long-time political bellwether state.

Notably, left-leaning media appears to be treating the development as sour grapes.

On Monday, one article appeared in TIME magazine and one was published by the AP, both dismissing Hillary's need for Ohio in her campaign's electoral college calculus. Things have "changed," apparently:

Iraq
ISIS media center in Mosul hit in air attack
1 Top Dawg dead

ARA News

DUHOK – Warplanes from the US-led coalition bombed an Islamic State (ISIS) media center on Tuesday. According to local activists, the air raid occurred in central Mosul city, in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh Governorate.

The targeted media center hosted media workers from jihadi al-Bayan Radio and the Amaq News Agency. Both outfits are major outlets for ISIS propaganda in the region.

At least 13 pro-ISIS journalists and media workers were killed in the airstrike, including Abu Ibrahim al-Tounsi, an editor at the Amaq News Agency.

Abdullah al-Malla, a media activist, told ARA News in Mosul: “The coalition struck this media office for its key role in broadcasting ISIS propaganda.” Al-Malla added that the airstrike caused significant structural damage to the building.

“A huge fire covered the building subsequent to the airstrike. Most of the staff who were inside the building lost their lives,” Al-Malla reported.

Jihadi Officials Under Fire

Over the last two months, the coalition has eliminated many senior officials in the Islamic State’s propaganda arm.

On September 16, Wa’il Adil Hasan Salman al-Fayad, the Information Minister of the Islamic State, was reported dead after an airstrike incinerated his house in Raqqa City. Raqqa is the de facto capital of ISIS in Syria.

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said: “Wa’il oversaw [ISIS’] production of terrorist propaganda videos showing torture and executions.”

Wa’il’s official position actually belied his importance with ISIS. He was a veteran jihadist and a close associate of Abu Mohamed al-Adnani, the ISIS spokesman who was killed on August 30.

“We will continue to work with our coalition partners to build momentum in the campaign to deal [ISIS] a lasting defeat,” Cook said.

Wa’il’s death came just one week after the ISIS military spokesman in Mosul, Abu Isaac, was killed. An anonymous group of gunmen perforated his car as he drove through Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh Governorate.

Also, the Chief of Media Operations in the Islamic State, Abu Muhammad Furqan, was killed on September 9 in an attack by Iraqi Special Operations Forces (ISOF).

Iraqi security officer Ali Daqqa told ARA News that the ISOF raided a building in the Baaj District where Furqan and other ISIS-affiliated media workers had been hiding. “At least 20 ISIS media workers and officials were hiding in that building. They were all killed in the operation.”

Caribbean-Latin America
Some gas stations in Venezuela will accept Colombian pesos, U.S. dollars from 'Colombian drivers'
[UPI] The governor of Venezuela's Táchira state has said some drivers next week could begin to pay gas stations with Colombian pesos or U.S. dollars.

Táchira Gov. José Vielma Mora said gas stations under the new currency program -- aimed at Colombian drivers -- will be jointly operated by Colombian companies and Venezuela's government-owned Petroleos de Venezuela, or PDVSA, oil company.

The announcement comes weeks after the regional government reduced the monthly allocated amount of gasoline for private use from about 3 gallons a month to 1.3 gallons, which has led some Venezuelans to stop using their cars or to seek gasoline through third-party gasoline providers at a higher price.

The governor said the gas stations can be paid in Colombian pesos or in U.S. dollars through a pre-paid card that will be handled by currency exchange operators or through public or private banks.

Baghlan Residents Take Up Arms To Defend Pul-e-Khumri City
Youths, schoolteachers, university lectures and tribal elders have all taken up arms in Pul-e-Khumri city in order to support the security forces and defend their city if attacked.

"The Pul-e-Khumri residents have gathered and are ready to support security forces and will not let the enemy enter the city," said Dr. Nasim, a tribal elder in Baghlan.

"The people will not let the Taliban enter Pul-e-Khumri city as they (residents) have created a big barrier against them," said Azizurrahman Sakhizada, a university lecturer.

"Our presence will not let the Taliban have an eye on Pul-e-Khumri city. We will not leave our forces alone," said Abdul Rauf, a school teacher in the city.

Meanwhile, a number of youths in the city continue to play their favorite sports while the war is said to be close to their region.

"The situation in Kunduz is not good, but we are not taking it seriously and we will continue our normal life," said Jawed a local resident.

Another resident, Ferdaus, said: "The war is ongoing in Baghlan and Kunduz and people are concerned about it, but we continue our sports and we call on government to end the war and ensure peace in the country."

Clash erupts after woman mistakenly pronounced dead
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A fight broke out between the family of a woman and doctors at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) after the girl was declared dead when she was alive.

The girl’s family, including her mother, broke the windows of the ICU, beat doctors and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud against the Punjab
    1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

chief minister, the principal of the Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) and the chief of Allied Hospitals and BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Asif Qadir Mir.

The family also intercepted Health Secretary Punjab Najam Shah who was on an official visit for reviewing health departments and their anti-dengue arrangements, and brought the matter into his notice.

The secretary reprimanded RMC Principal Prof Dr Mohammad Umar, ordered an inquiry into the matter and demanded a report within 48 hours.

Hafsa Bibi, 22, was brought to BBH complaining of high blood pressure five days ago and was admitted to the ICU. Doctors declared her dead on Monday and removed her from the ventilator. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
Hafsa’s mother later found a pulse, after which the family started protesting against the doctors, who were forced to leave the ICU.

During the fight, the windows of the ICU were also broken. Hafsa was later put on the ventilator again and is said to be out of danger.

When asked BBH Medical Superintendent Dr Mir said the matter was a misunderstanding and that during CPR, the women’s family had mistakenly heard that she had died.

He said the patient had recently undergone cardiac surgery, had come complaining of high blood pressure and had been on a ventilator for four days.

Dr Mir said an inquiry had been launched and a committee of senior doctors will record statements of doctors and paramedical staff.

He added that Hafsa’s mother had alleged that the condition of the patient was deteriorating and that the on duty doctor had been late.

group Tuesday said it wanted to see a "proposed solution in writing" before resuming UN-brokered peace talks with the Yemeni government.

In a statement, Houthi negotiators called on the UN to present a "written proposal" for ending Yemen’s ongoing crisis.

The proposal, they said, "should take into account all aspects of the conflict, including a halt to aggression, lifting the siege [on Houthi-held parts of the country] and an agreement regarding the presidency".

In Houthi discourse, the term "aggression" refers to a Saudi-led air campaign that began last year aimed at restoring President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi’s Saudi-backed government.

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the UN’s envoy for Yemen, is expected to arrive in Oman on Wednesday for talks with Houthi negotiators, with whom he will discuss possible means of resuming peace talks.

Taliban Block Roads Leading To Farah City
Members of Farah provincial council Tuesday reported that dozens of Taliban fighters have gathered around Farah city and plan to launch a coordinated attack on the provincial capital.

Meanwhile, security officials in Farah have said that the security forces have started a large scale operation in an attempt to thwart such a plan and eliminate the insurgents.

Residents in the city have reported that dozens of families have fled their homes in their quest to escape a possible Taliban offensive.

Intense fighting has been ongoing between the security forces and the Taliban in Farah in the past eleven days.

Insurgents have also blown up a bridge connecting Herat-Farah and Farah-Kabul highways.

"At the moment, all roads to Farah, Farah Rod, and roads to Poshrod district which is connected to the center have been blocked, hundreds of Taliban militants have flocked from Farah, Helmand and Shindand district of Herat, we are concerned about the possible collapse of Farah like Kunduz," said Farid Bakhtor, a member of Farah provincial council.

"Taliban are deployed in Kanask area alongside the road and they stop the cars, they have raised their flag and are searching for those working with the government," said Noor Mohammad , a resident of Farah.

"The area where we are deployed is called Soor and it is part of Farah city; last night around 9:00 pm the Taliban entered into the village and asked the villagers to flee the village so that they are not harmed during the war with the security forces," said Qasim, an Afghan national police officer in Farah.

"Some of our neighbors can't accept our country is moving towards progress and development particularly Iran, after reports surfaced about the construction of the dam, Iran has escalated the war in Farah," said Dadullah Qane, a member of Farah provincial council.

Amid concerns over the collapse of the province to the Taliban, meanwhile Raz Mohammad Oryakhail, the commander of 207 Zafar army regiment in Farah has said that the security forces have pushed back the Taliban from parts of Farah city in the north, adding that at least 100 insurgents were eliminated during the battles.

"Enemy forces have been pushed back from the operation zone, a massive toll has been inflicted on the enemy and Farah highway is completely opened for traffic," he said.

"Our responsibility is to defend the nation and the country, it is an obligation and we are determined to do this," Farah governor Mohammad Asif Nang said.

Reinforcements and air power have been sent to the area to help the security forces in their campaign against the Taliban.

Egypt Senior Moslem Brüderbund leader killed
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egypt’s Interior Ministry said early on Tuesday that it killed a senior Moslem Brüderbund leader it said was responsible for the group’s "armed wing" and another member of the group in a shootout on Monday.

Mohammed Kamal, 61, a member of the group’s top leadership, and Yasser Shehata, another leader, were killed. The ministry said it raided an apartment in Cairo’s Bassateen neighborhood after learning it was used by the leaders as a headquarters.

Kamal disappeared on Monday afternoon, the Moslem Brüderbund said on its social media accounts but gave no further updates. The Brotherhood says it is a peaceful organization. Rooters could not immediately reach the group for comment.

Shehata was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison for "assaulting a citizen and forcibly detaining the person in the headquarters of the freedom and Justice party," the political wing of the origination, the ministry said in its statement.

Kamal had been sentenced to life in prison on two counts in absentia, added the statement.

Kamal is one of the most prominent leaders of the Moslem Brüderbund and a member of the Guidance Bureau. He was in charge of the supreme Administrative Committee, known as the youth committee. He resigned from the committee in May 2016, because the committee was opposed by other top leaders in the organization.

The Brotherhood, the Middle East’s oldest Islamist movement and long Egypt’s main political opposition, said it is committed to peaceful activism designed to reverse what it calls a military coup in 2013.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi launched the toughest crackdown on Islamists in Egypt’s modern history after toppling President Mohammed Mursi of the Brotherhood in 2013.

    #1  How soon we forget:

On 22 July 1952 a group of army officers led by Col. Gamal Abd al-Nasir dethroned King Faruk, forcing him into exile. In January 1953 all political parties were dissolved, but to compete with the Muslim Brotherhood the Liberation Ralley, a mass organization and political party, was founded and headed by Nasir. Within a year, it was battling the Brotherhood for control of Cairo's streets. In October 1954 an attempt on Nasir's life nearly succeeded. Nasir, then leader of the Free Officer's Movement, acted swiftly and thousands of Brothers were arrested. Over a thousand Ikhwan were tried, most of whom remained in prison until after the death of Nasser in September 1970. Eventually, six Brethren were executed.

Nasir later initiated a new purge of the Ikhwan in the nineteen sixties, and a large number of Brothers simply disappeared.

Thus far Sisi has not replicated Nasir's draconian policy. It does seem, however, that he has approved a policy of take no prisoners if public safety or military are fired on by the Brethren.

    Europe
'The Whip of God' - a jeremiad by a Russian Orthodox priest
Rod Dreher posts & quotes it:
The day is not far off when Arabs and Africans will want to live not in refugee camps and migration centers but in the apartments of the current owners. They will want to live like the formers owners lived, and not near them but in their place. Of course, in order to uphold the European standard of living there has to be knowledge and labor. Electricians, doctors, engineers, pilots and so on are needed. Hundreds of professions and succession of order and government are needed. That is why the future of a tattered Europe is dark. The majority of migrants will not care to study and work. The majority wants to take what is not theirs by force, to trample underfoot the miniature, man-made paradise as Attila the Hun trampled and plundered Rome.
Unfair: Attila was reasonably cultured and had an understanding of the Romans.
They have little interest in what will come later. They are only the axe in the hand of the wielder, and an axe is not accustomed to thinking. But that will come later. For now the migrants are the same "whip of God" for Europe as the barbarians were for the Eternal City. Even those immigrants who have gone corrupt in the European manner (for they do get corrupted in Europe) will not become tolerant. They will remain as religiously motivated foreigners, mystically hating the godless whites who are fattened and paralyzed.

In Europe a right flank is possible and expected. Various ultras and fascist youths, boiling racism, is being born in places such as soccer fields. But this will not save the situation in and of itself. This will be agony. The situation can only be cured if Europe returns to its ancient Christian religiousness. Victory has to take place in the spirit. But this only antidote has to be recognized as impossible. Europe does not have the strength for a Christian renaissance.

Read the whole thing. The Russian is onto something. I hope he's wrong about Europe's spiritual weakness. I was just thinking about Saint Genevieve of Paris, and how she went out and faced Attila the Hun when the men of Paris had fled ‐ and turned him away from the city. Nothing is impossible.

Train runs over Elite Force commando
[DAWN] An Elite Force commando was killed after being run over by a freight train in police lines on Monday.

Adnan Javaid, a 30-year-old Elite Force commando, was passing through the police lines headquarters and was crossing the railway track Monday morning when he was run over by a freight train.

According to the police, Adnan was going to the police barracks from the Elite Force Headquarters and had stopped to let the train pass. When the train had also stopped, he tried to crawl under to cross to the other side. The train suddenly started moving again and Adnan did not get a chance to get out of the way.

The commando was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead

The railway track running through police lines is not usually used for regular rail traffic and is only used by freight trains once or twice a week.

When the freight train was passing through on Monday, there was no trackman who could have alerted the train driver that someone was on the tracks.

Adnan’s funeral was offered in the police lines and was attended by hundreds of coppers including SP VVIP Security Haseeb Hussein Shah.

Adnan Javaid joined police service on April 29, 2006 as a constable and was selected for the specialised police unit of Elite Force on March 15, 2014.

Konashenkov made the statement after US news station Fox News said Russia has deployed an advanced anti-missile system in Syria for the first time, citing three US officials.

The officials said the new weapon system could potentially counter any US cruise missile attack in Syria, in a latest show for Russian military support to Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

This makes it the first time Russia has deployed the SA-23 system outside its borders, Fox News said, according to one Western official citing a recent intelligence assessment.

On Tuesday, the United States has defended its stance in Syria when it said it has not given up "pursuit of peace in Syria" as Russian and Syrian warplanes continued to pound residential areas in besieged parts of Aleppo.

3 militant siblings surrender in Jessore
[Dhaka Tribune] Three siblings, who were wanted by Jessore police along with three other family members for suspected Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
connection, have surrendered to police, said M Moniruzzaman, deputy inspector general of police in Khulna range

Speaking at a press briefing in Jessore yesterday, the DIG said the siblings are Tanzeeb Ahmed alias Ashraful (22), Tanzeer Ahmed (18) and Masuma Akhter (28).

Their other sister Maksuda Khatun, her husband Shakir Ahmed and Masuma’s husband Nazmul Hasan are still missing.

Tanzeeb was present at the presser. He requested not to bring his brother or sister in front of the press, the DIG said.

Speaking to news hounds, Tanzeeb said he first came into contact with Hizbut Tahrir last year, when he was a student of botany at Jessore Government City College.

"I used to go to a tea stall in the town’s Dharmatala area in the afternoon every day, where I met a Hizbut Tahrir leader named Sajal one day. He gave me religious booklets to read. Eventually, he convinced me to join his organization."

After he joined Hizbut Tahrir, Tanzeeb convinced his brother and sisters to join him as well.

Asked why they surrendered to police, Tanzeeb said they realised their mistake when the prime minister and high officials of police urged missing hard boyz to surrender. "We want to return to normal life."

DIG Moniruzzaman said: "Some of our young men and women became misguided by people with ill intentions. But they are now realising that they made a mistake and are surrendering themselves. Police will help to rehabilitate them, as well as provide counselling."

Asked about the other three members of the family, the DIG said police were working to convince them to surrender as well.

The siblings’ names first came up when Jessore police on September 6 published a list of 11 people who had been missing for a significant period and were suspected to have joined myrmidon groups.

ISIS, al-Qaeda group fighting near Lebanese border
    ARA News

BEIRUT – A new surge of violence hit the Lebanese district of Arsal near the Syrian border, as heavy clashes broke out on Tuesday between Islamic State (ISIS) militants and the al-Qaeda splinter group Jabhat Fateh al-Sham.

ISIS initiated the clashes by attacking a checkpoint for the Fateh al-Sham in the Malahi neighbourhood of Arsal, using mortar shells. Scores of Fateh al-Sham fighters were killed in the attack, and ISIS eventually took over the checkpoint, local sources reported on Tuesday.

“Fateh al-Sham fighters responded by storming an ISIS security checkpoint in the al-Shir district near the Arsal border heights,” a media source close to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham told ARA News.

At least 15 ISIS militants were killed at the hands of Fateh al-Sham fighters, before the group took over the ISIS security checkpoint in al-Shir.

Both ISIS and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham [previously al-Nusra Front] hold positions in the Arsal region and al-Qaa heights near the Lebanese-Syrian border.

In August 2014, ISIS militants attacked a Lebanese Army base and took dozens of soldiers as hostages, nine of them are still held by the militant group.

Reporting by: Sameer al-Dawood | Source: ARA News

    More from al-Manar

Heavy clashes erupted Tuesday in the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal between ‘jihadists’ from the rival ISIL and Fateh al-Sham (Nusra Front) groups, state-run National News Agency reported.

Several militants from both sides were killed and wounded in the fighting, NNA said.

It later reported that the clashes had spread across the outskirts to reach the Sahlat al-Ajram area as Fateh al-Sham fighters seized control of an ISIL checkpoint in the al-Shir region.

The Lebanese army meanwhile fired heavy artillery from its posts in north Bekaa at movements by the militants in the Khirbet Younin, Sahlat al-Ajram and Wadi al-Khayl areas.

Wikileaks to release documents on US election
[AA.TR] Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on Tuesday promised to release "significant material" in the run-up to next month’s U.S. presidential election.

Assange addressed a news conference in Berlin to say the group would release around a million documents on the Nov. 8 election, internet giant Google as well as arms and oil deals.

Speaking via video link from the Ecuadoran embassy in London, where he sought refuge in 2012 to avoid possible extradition to Sweden over rape allegations that he denies, Assange said: "Our upcoming series includes significant material on war, on arms, on oil, on Google, on the U.S. elections."

The first group of documents will be released in the coming week. He declined to give further information about the releases other than to say the material would reveal details about "three powerful organizations in three different states".

He denied that an "October surprise" would target U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton

Within days of the July 15 coup attempt in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

, Wikileaks released around 300,000 emails related to the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party. The group was criticized for dumping emails that contained no revealing information and threatened the privacy and potential safety of millions or ordinary citizens.

Syrian rebel leader dies in Aleppo
ALEPPO – The military commander of Sultan Murad Brigade, a Syrian rebel group supported by Turkey, was killed on Tuesday during clashes with ISIS in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

Ali Sheikh Saleh, aka Abu Ibrahim al-Askeri, was killed by a mine explosion near the Turkmen Barah village in ongoing clashes between ISIS and groups operating under the Euphrates Shield operation, launched with support from the Turkish army on 24 August.

The Sultan Murad Brigade confirmed the death of its commander in a statement on Tuesday.

The Turkmen Sultan Murad Brigade is heavily backed by Turkey. The commander’s two children and wife are based in Turkey’s southern city of Gaziantep, where he was buried on Tuesday, the Turkish Milliyet newspaper reported.

Other Turkish-backed groups such as Nourredin Zenki offered their condolences.

The Euphrates Shield operation, which now entered its 42nd day, is moving towards an operation to take the symbolic town of Dabiq from ISIS, with the support of both Turkey and the United States.

“The coalition is actively supporting [Turkey-backed] Syrian opposition forces as they advance to within a few kilometers of [ISIS’] weakening stronghold Dabiq.” coalition anti-ISIS envoy Brett McGurk said on Sunday.

The village of Turkmen Barah was taken by the Turkey-backed rebels on Tuesday.

U.S. warships make landmark visit to strategic Vietnam port
[Reuters] Two U.S. warships made port calls at Vietnam's strategic naval base at Cam Ranh Bay, the U.S. navy said on Tuesday, in a brief but symbolic return for U.S. combat vessels to what was a crucial logistics complex during the Vietnam War.

Submarine tender USS Frank Cable and guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain made the visit on Sunday to the deep-water naval base, marking an important step in fast-growing defense ties between the two former enemies.

The visit came after the full lifting of a U.S. embargo on trade in lethal arms with Vietnam in May as part of President Barack Obama's strategic "rebalance" toward Asia.

At the same time, tension has been rising over rival territorial claims in the South China Sea, straining ties between Vietnam and its giant neighbor China. Vietnam has been intensifying efforts to diversify relations in Europe and Asia and engage more with the United States.

Cam Ranh is the jewel in the crown of Vietnam's military, with an air base once used by the U.S. and Soviet forces and a deep water bay home to its modern, Russian-built submarines. Visits by foreign ships are rare and usually reserved for maintenance. Japanese and French warships have recently made port calls at Cam Ranh.

Established as a base by the United States during the Vietnam War, Cam Ranh Bay had been used largely by Russian forces since then.

The John S. McCain visited nearby Danang city before sailing to Cam Ranh Bay, the U.S. Navy said.

Army looking to scrap 15,000 16-inch shells
[Guns.com] The Army for the past couple months has been looking for vendors interested in getting rid of possibly the largest cache of battleship food still in existence.

While it would seem like the Navy would take point on this one, the U.S. Army Contracting Command in Rock Island, Ill., in as part of the Joint Munitions Command is announced in August they were looking for potential sources who possess the expertise in demilling and disposing of 15,595 surplus 16″/50 caliber shells currently being stored at the Crane Army Ammunition Activity in Indiana.

The shells are all for the Iowa-class battleships, commissioned in World War II and brought back by popular request for Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon and the Persian Gulf wars.

Decommissioned at the end of the Cold War, by 2012 all four ships of the class (Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri and Wisconsin) were transferred to various museums around the country. Some shells belonged to even older North Carolina and South Dakota-class ships.

#6  Perhaps, where the low gate opens to some cottage-garden, the tired traveller may ask, idly, why the moss grows so green on its rugged wood; and even the sailor's child may not answer, nor know, that the night-dew lies deep in the war-rents of the wood of the old Téméraire.

Always maker me get a bit misty.

Careful there, pal. That's dangerously close to metal cylinders filled with explosives and dropped from aircraft. As we know from all the whinging about Syria, that's like war crimes and barrel bombs and stuff.

    Arabia
Soddys start naval exercises in Sea of Oman
Saudi Arabia began naval war games including live fire exercises on Tuesday in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important oil route, official media reported, a move that coincides with heightened tensions with regional rival Iran.

Warships, speedboats, air navy aircraft, Marine Corps and special security naval units took part, state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said. Live ammunition was fired during activities.

The maneuvers are aimed at testing combat readiness “in preparation for the protection of the marine interests of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any possible aggression,” reported SPA quoting commander of the exercises, Rear Admiral Majed bin Hazza'a Al-Qahtani.

The drill is also being conducted in the Sea of Oman, SPA reported.

Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia is concerned by the growing clout in the region of Shiite Iran, which has emerged from years of international economic sanctions following a deal over its nuclear program signed by Tehran and world powers in 2015.

Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition of Muslim countries, backed by the United States, Britain and France, in a war in neighboring Yemen. The campaign, aimed at restoring a government ousted by an Iran-allied militia, is part of a more assertive effort by Riyadh since last year to counter Iran's influence.

Some 17 million barrels per day (bpd), or about 30 percent of all seaborne-traded oil, passed through the Strait of Hormuz in 2013, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

5 die in Benghazi artillery attack
    Benghazi, 4 October 2016:

Five people were killed today when two buildings in Benghazi’s Sidi Hussein district were shelled today, one of them the army’s financial administration building, the other a nearby apartment block not far from the former Tibesti hotel.

Sixteen other people were injured in the terrorist attack, 12 of whom were rushed to the city’s Jalaa Hospital. Of these two are said to be in a critically condition. Most of the others suffered minor injuries and were allowed home.

Of the five killed, two are Egyptians, two Libyans, and one a Sudanese. One of the Libyans has been named as Ahmed Al-Awami, the imam at the mosque in administration building and said to be “elderly”. The other Libyan who died has been named as Saleh Nagaz.

The son of one of those wounded told the Libya Herald his father was outside their apartment building at the time and had subsequently explained to him that that he had seen two of the neighbours killed as they sheltered in a doorway at the time. The son added that nine neighbours had been injured.

The shelling is believed to have been carried out by members of the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council and there are suggestions that it may have been in retaliation for air strikes by the LNA on Ganfouda.

Police have ordered people in nearby buildings to evacuate the area.

    -Short Attention Span Theater-
    Negligent doctor declares baby ‘dead’
[Dhaka Tribune] A baby was declared dead before being found alive two hours later in Chittagong yesterday.

Her mother Ridwana Kawsar gave birth around 1am yesterday at Centre for Specialised Care & Research (CSCR) Private Ltd.

The premature baby is now undergoing treatment at the Neonatal Incentive Care Unit (NICU) of Max Hospital & Diagnostic Ltd.

Ridwana who is also a medical practitioner said: "I was at the delivery room when I heard Dr Shahena Akter shouting my newborn baby was trying to breathe and her heart was beating. But two hours later, I was given her death certificate along with her body in a box. To my shock when I opened the box, I found my daughter alive and her heart was beating.

"What pains me most is that the on-duty doctor without even properly checking declared my daughter dead. She told me that the baby was not breathing at all. When I insisted, the doctor told me that only the muscles the heart was moving."

Dr Shahin Akter, the on-duty doctor of Max Hospital & Diagnostic Ltd, said: "The newborn was struggling to breathe when she was admitted to the hospital at 5:30am on Tuesday. The situation began to improve when we resuscitated the newborn."

Nurul Azam, husband of Ridwana Kawsar, is also a physician now posted at Cox’s Bazar Zila Sadar Hospital.

Dr Basu Bandhu Barua, executive director of Max Hospital & Diagnostic Ltd, told the Dhaka Tribune that the infant was born prematurely.

"Premature babies suffer from various types of complications like breathing problem. The newborn which weighs only 500 gram has been given continuous positive pressure ventilation for acute respiratory distress. Besides, IV saline and antibiotics were given to the newborn which is placed on a radiant warmer," said Dr Basu, a pediatric specialist.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible...
Chittagong chapter of Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) yesterday expressed grave concern and demanded exemplary punishment to the doctors and staff involved with declaring the newborn dead.

CAB leaders through a press statement said that the incident took place due to the utter negligence of the hospital authorities.

On the other hand, the CSCR authorities have formed a committee to investigate the incident.

Dr Jamal Ahmed, managing director of the CSCR Private Ltd, said: "This is a very serious matter. None of the hospital staff who was on-duty at that time can avoid his or her responsibility in this regard. We have formed a probe committee to investigate the matter. We will take all necessary action if anybody is found guilty."

    Bangladesh
Hacked Sylhet female student in post-op life support
[Dhaka Tribune] The female college student who was brutally hacked by a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League
... the student wing of the Bangla Awami League ...
on Monday is in a critical condition, doctors said on Tuesday.

The victim, Khadiza Akhter Nargis, 23, is on life support after a team of specialist surgeons operated on her at Square Hospital in Dhaka, where she was brought in around 9am from Sylhet’s MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Dr Rejaus Sattar, associate consultant (neurosurgery) at Square Hospital, said due to the severity of the injuries she sustained, the result of the surgery could not be assessed as yet.

"The patient is on inactive ventilation in life support and will be under observation for 72 hours. Further neurological scans of consciousness signs will dictate the next course of actions," he added.

Earlier at a press briefing, Dr Mirza Nazimuddin, medical director at Square, said Khadiza sustained critical trauma on her head and arms.

"There are deep gashes on her skull and scans show brain damage. The tendons in both arms have been slashed, probably when she was trying to protect her head," he said.

Khadiza, an honours second-year student at Sylhet Government Women’s College, was attacked on Monday evening by Badrul Alam, fourth-year economics student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and a top leader of Chhatra League’s SUST wing, while she was on her way back home after taking an exam at Sylhet MC College exam centre.

Locals rescued severely maimed Khadiza and took her to Osmani Medical College Hospital, while others gave Badrul a good beating before handing him over to Shah Paran cop shoppe.

Khadiza’s uncle Abdul Kuddus told the Dhaka Tribune that he did not know about the assailant before the attack was made public in the media.

Shah Paran cop shoppe OC Shahjalal Munshi said the incident might have occurred over a relationship dispute.

"We will take necessary actions once a complaint is filed regarding the matter. Badrul has been admitted in Osmani Hospital under police surveillance."

Speaking to news hounds at his office in the Secretariat on Tuesday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said whoever had attacked or hacked Khadiza would be brought under punishment.

    SUST suspends Badrul

The SUST authorities suspended Badrul from the university on Tuesday evening following a meeting of the university proctorial body, SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Aminul Haque Bhuyan told the Dhaka Tribune.

The proctorial body has also formed a three-member committee led by acting proctor Rashed Talukder to investigate the attack.

The committee has been instructed to submit the probe report as soon as possible, said the VC.

BCL claims Badrul isn’t a member

The Chhatra League wing at SUST has claimed that it has no affiliation with Badrul Alam.

"Badrul is currently employed at Alhaj Ayazur Rahman High School, and according to the organization’s charter, job holders cannot remain members of this organization," said a press statement issued by Chhatra League on Tuesday evening.

    However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
sources said Badrul is currently the vice-president of SUST Chhatra League.

Chhatra League’s central committee General Secretary Jakir Hossain was seen leaving Osmani Medical College Hospital around 2pm on Tuesday. Asked about the assailant, he claimed that Badrul was not a member of the organization.

"Chhatra League is not liable for any individual’s action, especially by someone who is not a member. We have looked into the incident and have found that he is a job holder. Anyone who is married or working has his or her Chhatra League membership automatically cancelled."

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
34 die in bomb attack on wedding in Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria: A suicide bomber has struck a wedding in northeast Syria as the bride and groom were exchanging vows, killing 34 people and wounding dozens, the local Kurdish government said.

The bomber blew himself up late Monday in the village of Tall Tawil in Hasakah province where a Kurdish party official was getting married.

Daesh claimed the attack, saying that one of its members had fired on a gathering near Hasakah city before blowing himself up, though it did not mention a wedding.

Rows of seats in the hall that hosted the party were still covered in blood on Tuesday morning when an AFP photographer visited the scene.

Broken tiles littered the floor and torn fabric hung from the ceiling. A thick layer of dust covered a sound mixer and keyboard.

“As the bride and groom were exchanging their vows I saw a man wearing a thick black jacket pass beside me,” a witness named Ahmad said. “I thought he looked strange and a few seconds later there was an enormous explosion.

Wedding photographer Walid Mohammad said he was taking pictures of the party when he felt a huge explosion. “I saw so many people die — small kids, old people.”

The local Kurdish administration said 34 people had been killed and around 90 wounded, among them women and children.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based monitor that relies on a network of sources inside the country, gave a higher toll of 36 dead including 11 children.

Both the groom and bride were safe, but the groom’s father and brother were killed in the attack, a relative told AFP.

“The groom’s wounds are light, and he and his new wife are staying at a relative’s home. He doesn’t want to see anyone,” he said.
“They are really shaken up by this.”

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein warned Russia on Tuesday over the use of incendiary weapons in Syria’s besieged enclave of eastern Aleppo, and said crimes by one side did not justify illegal acts by the other.

Zeid said the situation in Aleppo demanded bold new initiatives “including proposals to limit the use of the veto by the permanent members of the Security Council,” which would enable the UN body to refer the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court.

“Such a referral would be more than justified given the rampant and deeply shocking impunity that has characterized the conflict and the magnitude of the crimes that have been committed, some of which may indeed amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity,” Zeid said in a statement.

Syria’s government and its allies had undertaken a “pattern of attacks” against targets with special protection under international humanitarian law, including medical units, aid workers and water-pumping stations, he said.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said the US isn’t abandoning its pursuit of peace in Syria despite suspending US-Russian talks on a cease-fire.

But he didn’t outline any new strategy to replace efforts with the Russians. Kerry said Washington and Moscow would still discuss Syria as part of larger multilateral negotiations. But, Kerry said, the US is outraged that Russia has turned a blind eye to the Syrian government’s use of chlorine gas and barrel bombs.

He said Russia has rejected diplomacy and chosen to pursue a military victory over rebels.

Arab League chief Ahmed Abul Gheit called for an “urgent cease-fire” in Aleppo to allow the flow of humanitarian aid to residents.
“What is happening in this city... is carnage,” Abul Gheit told an emergency meeting of representatives of the 22 members of the Cairo-based Arab League. Abul Gheit said due to this latest development Arab nations must try to secure an “urgent cease-fire” for Aleppo.

Turkey will make a proposal to revive the cease-fire deal and President Tayyip Erdogan may speak by telephone on the issue with US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Erdogan’s spokesman said.

More on the fighting in Syria

Syrian national military fired on Tuesday a guided missile targeting a BMB vehicle of the armed groups in western countryside of Damascus, leaving all crew members killed and wounded.

Moreover, clashes erupted between the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group on one hand and the ‘Free Syrian Army’ (FSA) and allied terrorist groups on the other during ISIL advance in eastern Qalamoun in rural Damascus.

    Both sides inflicted casualties.

In Daraa, FSA targeted on Monday the ISIL-held Al-Shajra town in the eastern countryside of the province by rocket projectiles, killing six people, including 3 children and 2 women, the opposition UK-based Observatory reported.

SANA said that an army unit clashed with terrorists in southern Daraa province leaving 20 of them killed, while the rest who survived fled away in Daraa al-Balad area.

Army and Armed Forces units launched Tuesday more military operations against the armed terrorist organizations in different areas across the country, eliminating a large number of their members and destroying their equipment.

In Deir Ezzor, Syrian military destroyed an ISIL vehicle with a heavy machine gun of 14.5 mm cannon by a guided missile south of the city. All crew members were left killed or wounded.

In Hasaka, ISIL claimed responsibility for an explosion that targeted a wedding hall in the city and killed 30 people and injured 90 others.

Moreover, a roadside bomb targeted a patrol for Kurdish Protection Units near Al Ghazal checkpoint east of the city.

Clashes also erupted between the “Democratic Syria Forces” and ISIL near the village of al-Azzawi, south of Shaddadi city in the countryside of southern Hasaka, amid exchange of fire between the two sides.

In Aleppo, a police source told SANA that rocket shells, fired by terrorists from the eastern neighborhoods of the city, targeted the citizens’ houses in New Aleppo and Seif al-Dawleh, injuring 5 civilians.

In Idlib, “Jund al-Aqsa” group executed a child named Rami, 13 years, in the city of Khan Shaykhun in the southern countryside over charges of “blasphemy.”

In Hama, the Syria Air Force destroyed tanks and vehicles equipped with machineguns belonging to “Jaish al-Fatah” terrorist organization in the villages of Um Hartain, Dahret al-Souda, al-Latamina, Souran, Maardes and Kafar Zita in the northern countryside of Hama province.

The Syrian Air Force destroyed a number of the terrorist organizations’ tanks and vehicles equipped with machineguns and artillery guns, killing a number of terrorists in al-Latameneh, Taybet al-Imam, and Maan in the northern countryside of Hama province, according to a military source.

In Homs, The so-called “Al-Sham Corps” group operating in north Homs said in a statement he joined “Homs Northern Countryside Operations Room.”

A military source told SANA that an Army and Armed Forces unit set an ambush for an armed terrorist group in Abu al-Anz Farms, east of Talbiseh in the northern countryside of Homs Province, which resulted in killing all members of the group.

Another army unit destroyed a number of vehicles belonging to ISIL terrorists and killed a number of them in the surroundings of al-Sawanieh in the eastern countryside of the province.

    Afghanistan
Clashes underway in Helmand’s Khanshin amid reports of district fall
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Heavy festivities are underway in Khanshin district of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province amid reports the control of the district has fallen to the Taliban Death Eaters.

A local official in Khanshin said the Taliban bully boyz have captured some parts of the district during the festivities in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A provincial council official also confirmed that most parts of the district have fallen to the control fo the Taliban Death Eaters.

The official further added that the Taliban bully boyz are close to capture the control of the district administrative compound.

The Taliban bully boyz launched a similar attack on Khanshin district late in the month of July this year which forced the Afghan forces to deploy more forces to repulse the Taliban attack.

The Taliban bully boyz have long been attempting to seize full control of Helmand province as the Afghan officials are saying that the group is attempting to turn the province into its strategic compound.

The officials were earlier saying that the Taliban group is looking to shift the group’s leadership currently based in Quetta city of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
    province of Pakistain.

The Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for allowing the Afghan Death Eater groups, including the notorious Haqqani terrorist network to use its soil for plotting and coordinating attacks in Afghanistan.

According to the Afghan officials, the leadership councils of both the Taliban and the Haqqani network are based in Quetta and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.

    More from Tolo News

Members of Helmand provincial council on Tuesday voiced concern over the fall of Khanshin district to the Taliban, terming it the fall of the entire province.

Local officials earlier confirmed the fall of the district to the Taliban and said that security forces have been evacuated from the district and dispatched to other volatile regions in the province.

"Provincial leaders decided to withdraw security forces from Khanshin and deploy them in areas which are important, the Taliban entered the district after the pullout of the security forces," said Omar Zuwak, spokesman for Helmand governor.

Helmand provincial council has said that the fall of Khanshin could have implications on the security of Helmand.

"The fall of Khanshin district is quite dangerous, Taliban are able to regroup from this district," said a member of the provincial council Majid Akhundzada.

"We do not understand why the local officials decided this, this is quite dangerous and we don't understand what will happen next," said Baryalai Nazari, member of Helmand provincial council.

"Lashkargah city faced fierce fighting last night, both the security forces and the Taliban suffered casualties during the battles," a resident of Lashkargah Niaz Gul said.

In addition residents in Helmand have raised concerns over the growing battles in suburbs of provincial capital Lashkargah.

This comes after the Taliban ambushed police officers near Lashkargah on Monday night, killing at least 10 and wounding many others.

    The Grand Turk
Defiant to the last, Turkey channel shut down live on air
[The National] When the police finally came, the staff of IMC TV in Istanbul were ready.

Dozens of employees crowded behind the anchor’s news desk, applauding their management and shouting "free media won’t be silenced."

Then as technical experts sent by the authorities fiddled with wires in the back room, broadcasts were cut and screens went blank.

The channel -- which had a pro-Kurdish stance but also engaged with women’s and environmental issues -- was the latest casualty of what activists see as a growing crackdown against the media in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
after the July 15 failed coup.

The government insists media remains free and diverse in Turkey but accuses outlets like IMC TV of promoting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) -- which the channel denies.

"Why are you covering your face? Long live hell for the cruel!" the channel’s general manager, Eyup Burc told the police live on air as they raided the channel. "We are against all coups and we are against those who stage their own coup out of a coup!" he said.

The channel was one of a dozen TV outlets ordered to close last week under Turkey’s controversial state of emergency imposed after the failed coup and extended by another three months from October 19.

Rather than being accused of supporting the July 15 coup, they are charged with broadcasting "terror propaganda" for the outlawed PKK which has fought a bloody 32-year insurgency against the Turkish state.

Activists have repeatedly warned that the state of emergency would be used to implement a wider crackdown.

"There are no channels left to broadcast this speech!" the leader of the opposition pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtas told a meeting of his party in the parliament. "They believe that the people will support the government when they are not informed of the news. They are deceived again."

Despite the closure order, IMC TV had defiantly remained on air until Tuesday through the Hotbird satellite and internet broadcasts, with staff expecting the police to arrive at any moment.

T"We do not threaten anyone’s security. On the contrary we are a channel that defends people’s right to receive news," said IMC presenter Banu Guven.

Several other broadcasters, including pro-Kurdish Ozgur Radyo and the strongly leftist Hayatin Sesi TV, were also raided and shut down on Monday.

"Dramatic shutdowns of media outlets have become a familiar drama in Turkey," said Dilek Gul, another IMC journalist. Earlier this year, Turkish police used water cannon to take over the headquarters of the Zaman newspaper linked to the holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
who was later blamed for the coup. However there has been no suggestion IMC is linked to Gulen.

The closure has come at a time of growing concerns for press freedom in Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
, with several prominent journalists under arrest following the coup.

"All form of opposition in Turkey is now deprived of its voice," said Erol Onderoglu, Turkey representative of press freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

    Government
'Disinherited' - Shows Destructive Effects of Gov't Intervention on Youth
[Atlas Network] The road to hell is certainly paved with good intentions -- just ask a millennial. Ours is, after all, the demographic that is being hit the hardest by decades of social programs and discretionary fiscal and monetary policies that, no matter how well intentioned, are ultimately harmful. It should come as no surprise that those of us between the ages of 18 and 35 will likely not achieve the same financial success as our parents and grandparents -- at least not as easily as they did. It will take most of us a longer time to graduate from college, get our first job, and buy our own home. We’ll pay into the current system, but we won’t get much of a return.

As Diana Furchtgott-Roth and Jared Meyer, of Atlas Network partner the Manhattan Institute, masterfully note in their new book Disinherited: How Washington Is Betraying America’s Young, "the old gain and the young pay." The book is by no means an attack on any one politician or political party, however, and that’s an effective approach. Through objective research and candid interviews of real millennials, the authors are able to lead their readers to understand that many of the key problems faced by millennials are caused by policies enacted by federal, state, and local governments.

To illustrate these problems, Disinherited is broken up into four main parts: "Stealing from the Young to Enrich the Old," "Keeping Young People Uneducated," "Regulations That Cripple the Young," and "Where To from Here? "

#1  This has been going on for a very long time, in particular the money wasted on what has, for many young people, been a phony education with little authentic value.

Most of the college degrees given over the past 30 or so years have been ridiculous things a chimp could get, particularly in the arts and humanities and social "sciences". All that "education" has been a tremendous waste of resources that could have been better directed to provide a more productive society. This will not end well.

The "stealing form the old" part has been going on for a while, too. Most estimates of the actual size of public retirement obligations run from 80-100 trillion, which is probably unfundable absent future generations paying three-quarters of their income in taxes so that people in their mid-sixties who were employed by various levels of government can have a fifteen year cushy retirement. That will not end well.

The regulatory leviathan (and it's evil sister and parasite, the "human resources" industry) makes employing people a paperwork nightmare, an ever-increasing financial liability and cost center instead of value added, and drives the number of employees that any given business will hire down. This will also not end well.

#3  This has been going on for a very long time, in particular the money wasted on what has, for many young people, been a phony education with little authentic value.

It isn't just the money. It's also the time and the energy. Think of what could be accomplished with all that youthful energy and time if it wasn't wasted on a "liberal" education.

Rift emerges between Khalifa Haftar and Wirshiffana's tribal army
[Libya Observer] The so-called Tribes Army of Wirshiffana has responded angrily to a recent order by rogue General Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
to his aides to abandon the commander of the army, Brigadier Omer Tantosh.

During a military rally in Wirshiffana on Monday, supporters of Tantosh, all are still loyal of slain Qadaffy, said the order of Khalifa Haftar is totally rejected.

Last month, Khalifa Haftar ordered his militias in western Libya to abandon Omer Tantosh saying he is no longer part of his self-proclaimed Libyan National Army.

Tantosh and his militias used to fight alongside with Khalifa Haftar's in the past two years, but because of superiority complex, Khalifa Haftar decided to abandon him.

"We call the President of HoR in his capacity as Supreme Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces to reconsider some orders and abuses committed by Khalifa Haftar, which could delay the liberation," Tantosh supporters said in a statement, while referring to the planned attack on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
    .

The supporters also said that Khalifa Haftar's order is an insult to all Wirshiffana tribes.

Brigadier Omer Tantosh was a senior commander in former Qadaffy brigades. In 2011, he took charge of the western region's front lines. He was locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in 2012 before being released by Zintan town in 2014 to join the fight against Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
forces. He then formed the so-called Tribes Army of Wirshiffana and joined Dignity Operation.

In August 2016, President of HoR Aqailah Saleh appointed him as the commander of the military zone of Wirshiffana under Khalifa Haftar's self-proclaimed Libyan National Army.

UAE says Houthi attack on ship in shipping lane was act of terrorism
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The UAE said on Wednesday Yemeni Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces had attacked a UAE civilian vessel in a strategic Red Sea shipping lane off the coast of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
at the weekend and called the incident an act of terrorism.

The UAE foreign ministry, in a statement carried by state news agency WAM, said the civilian ship was targeted by Houthi militia near the Bab al-Mandab strait off Yemen's southern coast on Saturday.

"The targeting of the civilian ship in an international channel has serious implications for freedom of navigation, and is an act of terror...," it said, without elaborating.

In a statement on Saturday, the Houthis said their forces had fired a missile that had destroyed a UAE military vessel that was advancing towards the Red Sea port of al-Mokha.

    Vessel damaged
The UAE military said on Saturday that one of its vessels was damaged in an incident, on which it gave no details, near the strait but there were no injuries to its crew.

Hundreds of Emirati soldiers in a Saudi-led coalition have been fighting Yemen's Iran-allied Houthis who control the capital and training Yemeni troops in the port of Aden to help rebuild a state loyal to exiled president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

In 2013, more than 3.4 million barrels of oil per day passed through the 20-km (12 mile) wide Bab al-Mandab, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

    Women as property
[DAWN] LAWS enacted in Pakistain that guarantee equality and protection for women have never been extended to Fata. Treated as personal property, their fate tied to tribal customs or riwaj, tribal women have limited recourse to the law under the colonial-era FCR. Because the underlying component of tribal society is patriarchal, women must live by the rules of engagement set by men. This is the context of a report in this paper over the weekend that focuses on the appalling practice of buying and selling women, a custom codified under Turizona law in Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
. Established under British rule in 1944, this law allows for tribal women to be purchased like cattle for the purposes of matrimony and at varying price tags -- rasmana or money that the heirs of a woman receive when she is sold. Her price depends on whether she is single, married, widowed or even kidnapped. Indeed, such sordid customs -- vulvar and swara included -- must have no legal standing whatsoever in the 21st century. The challenge is to ensure that anti-women customary laws are not codified in the process of instituting reforms in Fata. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
pro-women reforms will not be widely accepted without changing the perceptions of tribal men. This is doable through education and instituting gender equality via legal and political reforms. One way to weaken tradition is to repeal outmoded laws that are replete with inhumane and discriminatory clauses.

Surely the government knows that what is due to women needs attention in the tribal region; laws justifying customs deny them their right to gender equality and fuel religious intolerance and violence, whether they disenfranchise women or subject them to forced marriages to settle feuds. The latter is criminalised in the rest of the country, but not in Fata. Even though political agents have appellate power over jirgas, they acquiesce in decisions adversely impacting women. The superior court’s jurisdiction must be extended to Fata so that women can seek constitutional protection. That their lives have been gravely threatened by militancy and disrupted by military operations further underscores the necessity of removing legally enshrined gender-based discrimination when mainstreaming Fata. If ever there was the right moment for debate around reforming a much-neglected region and the status of its women, this is it. Further, for counter-insurgency to succeed, women as one of the most affected groups must be at the core of peace-building and political decision-making.

Pakistan does not pursue aggressive designs against any nation: PM Nawaz
    [DAWN] Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
chaired two meetings of top civil and military leadership on the National Action Plan (NAP) and national security on Tuesday, with a special focus on the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and held Kashmire.

'Pakistan believes in peace and collective betterment'
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif addressing a National Security Committee meeting focusing on the internal and external security of the country said, "Pakistain does not cherish aggressive designs against any country or nation. We believe in peace and collective betterment."

    "However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
our quest for peace must not be mistaken as a sign of weakness. Our armed forces are fully capable of thwarting any kind of threat to our illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.

The meeting reviewed the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the operational preparedness of the armed forces, a PM Office statement said.

"Pakistain cannot be cowed down with hollow rhetoric and aggressive posturing," the meeting resolved, adding that the nation stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its armed forces to ensure defence of the country at any cost.

Participants of the meeting noted that escalation of tensions along the LoC and the eastern border will shift Pakistain's focus away from its counter-terrorism efforts at a critical juncture and would be detrimental to gains made in the war against terror on home soil.

The forum said that India should resolve the Kashmire issue for enduring regional peace instead of making 'futile efforts' to divert the world's attention through 'propaganda' and 'false claims' of surgical strikes, the statement said.

The meeting's participants called on India to halt atrocities in India-held Kashmire (IHK).

PM Nawaz said that the people of IHK are struggling for their inalienable right to self-determination guaranteed by United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Security Council resolutions, which cannot be suppressed through brutal oppression by Indian security forces.

"It is imperative that the UN and other countries fulfil their longstanding commitment to the innocent and defenceless people of Indian Occupied Kashmire," the prime minister said.

"Pakistain and Kashmire are inseparable. We will continue to extend our moral, political and diplomatic support to Kashmiri people at every forum," the premier reiterated.

Tamim Chowdhury featured in new IS publication
[Dhaka Tribune] A new Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
publication has featured an article on the July 1 Gulshan cafe attack ostensibly written by Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, who was killed during a police operation in Narayanganj on August 27.

Interestingly, the byline of the article, published in the second issue of IS’ Rumiyah magazine, says: "Abu Dujanah al-Bangali (Tamim Chowdhury), Former Head of Military and Covert Operations of the Soldiers of Khilafah in Bengal."

Police on several occasions referred to Tamim as Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif, before and after he was bumped off during the so-called Operation Hit Strong 27. Two other suspected Lions of Islam were killed in the drive.

The multilingual magazine released late Tuesday night also published an infographic of 24 out of 26 attacks the IS supporters have carried out in Bangladesh since September last year. The victims include foreigners, non-Moslem and non-Sunni preachers, law enforcers and a university professor.
A useful little backgrounder on Mr. Chowdhury can be seen at the link. His family lives in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Tamim is believed to be the criminal mastermind of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Gulshan on July 1 and the attack on police near Sholakia Eid congregation on July 8. At least 25 people, including foreigners, law enforcement personnel and civilians, were killed in the terrorist attacks.

On September 23, IS released its second Bangla video featuring as heroes the five Gulshan attackers ‐ Nibras Islam, Rohan Imtiaz, Khairul Islam Payel, Shafiqul Islam Uzzal and Meer Saameh Mubasser who were killed in a commando operation on July 2.

The Lions of Islam in the video, believed to be recorded sometime before the Gulshan attack, made statements justifying their stance, and criticising the democratic system and politicians. They also came down heavily on the Islamic scholars for resisting Moslems from joining the armed jihad of the Islamic State.

The home minister reacted: "I have said it before there is no organizational existence and leader of IS in Bangladesh. The video footage has been released as part of a conspiracy against Bangladesh."

The New JMB, which, according to police, works as the Islamic State affiliate in Bangladesh has lost 31 of its members in raids while two killed themselves since November last year.

Detectives claim that local Lions of Islam close to banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh formed the New JMB group to create anarchy and terrorise foreigners in the country. The IS aims at establishing Shariah law in the country and use Bangladesh as its base to launch attacks in Myanmar and India.

After Tamim’s death, counter-terrorism officials claimed that the strength of New JMB had almost waned. The detectives are now looking for the field-level coordinator, financiers and arms suppliers for the July 1 attack.

They said that Tamim had been assisted by a top JMB leader, Abul Kashem alias Boro Huzur. Known as a great religious preacher working at the Okharabari Madrasa of Dinajpur, Kashem mainly helped Tamim to reunite the JMB members.

Questions over Afghan defences as troops clear Kunduz city
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Afghan forces regained control of most of the northern city of Kunduz on Tuesday amid sporadic fighting, officials said, as questions arose over how Talibs once again managed to penetrate the city’s defences.

    The US military in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
said that a "robust" group of special forces, as well as aircraft, were positioned near the city to provide support to Afghan soldiers should the need arise.

Insurgents slipped past government forces early on Monday and occupied or attacked central areas of Kunduz, almost exactly a year after they briefly captured the city in one of their biggest successes of the 15-year war.

Social media accounts linked to the Taliban, which taunted Afghan forces and their Western backers throughout Monday’s attack, said fighters were still inside Kunduz on Tuesday, with "festivities ongoing" and government troops "on the run".

The attack in Kunduz, along with Taliban gains in areas of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
and Uruzgan where they also threaten historic provincial capitals, has underlined the group’s growing strength and exposed weaknesses in Afghanistan’s defences.

Government representatives are meeting international donors in Brussels this week to try to secure billions of dollars in additional aid.

    Did police run away?
Questions dogged Afghan cops on Tuesday, with the US military reporting it saw little evidence of significant fighting as the Taliban moved in.

Some witnesses said many police had abandoned checkpoints without firing a shot, a month after a similar scene played out during a Taliban raid on the historic provincial capital of Uruzgan province, Tarin Kot.

"The police did not fight yesterday," said Commander Ali, a local militia chief who, like many Afghans, only goes by one name. "Some fought in a few places, but a majority of them escaped without any resistance."

He estimated that about 200 Taliban attackers quickly sent thousands of security personnel, mostly police, fleeing to the army base near the city’s airport.

That account was supported by another local police commander, who said big shotship had failed to back up those coppers who did fight, while the army arrived after the fact.

    Caribbean-Latin America
Rejection of Colombia peace deal could fracture FARC
[AA.TR] Political uncertainty continued to hang over Columbia on Tuesday after voters rejected a signed peace deal between the FARC and government that would’ve ended the longest war in the Western hemisphere.

"In the best-case scenario, the parties will agree quickly on a new agenda, taking into account the concerns of Colombia’s political right, with a clear timetable," Adam Isaacson, Regional Security Policy Program chief at the Washington Office on Latin America, said in a statement to Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.

The Democratic Centre party led the effort to reject the deal it believed gave too much to the guerrillas. If, as feared, negotiations between President Juan Manuel Santos and members of the party is prolonged, there are several ominous possibilities that could occur, according to Isacson.

Since the referendum was rejected, FARC guerrillas are "technically runaways," and their transfer to the 28 zones of concentration for 180 days and disarmament observed by the UN is now on hold, according to Isacson. "Without verification and concentration, the cease-fire may become unstable," he said. And if these guerrillas, mainly middle and low-ranking members, feel that the government will not keep its end of the deal, then there is the possibility of a "disintegration of the FARC into structures that would be impossible to demobilize."

The FARC has said the signed agreement is binding.

The group’s legal advisor Enrique Santiago Romero told a local radio station that he is not against some changes to the deal.

"It will not be a simple task, but I would be open to modifying some points so as to address the issue of impunity," he said.

The victims of the 52-year armed conflict -- who, for the first time had had their voices heard in peace talks -- are inconsolable and bereft of hope after the voting Sunday swung in favor of the "No" campaign by just 60,000 votes.

"We feel that the urban population doesn’t understand the reality and the needs to end this conflict. It was a huge opportunity for us and we missed it," Leyner Palacios told Blu Radio. Palacios managed to survived the May 2002 massacre in which 119 victims bit the dust when a FARC cylinder bomb landed on a church where civilians found shelter during a battle between guerrillas and the right-wing paramilitary United Defense Forces of Colombia.

Sweden's Costly Military Ads Failing to Attract Volunteers
[Sputnik] Since Sweden became the first Nordic country to abolish conscription six years ago, a total of 437 million SEK ($51 million) has been spent on advertising, Swedish trade magazine Resumé reported. Nevertheless, the Swedish Armed Forces currently lack over 7,400 soldiers, which constitutes roughly a third of the total number of active soldiers.

In the first year after conscription was abolished, the Swedish Defense maintained an advertising budget of a whopping 100 million SEK ($12 million). Subsequently, the budget for advertising was cut down somewhat, yet hovered nevertheless at around SEK 60 million in recent years ($7 million).

Last week, government investigator Annika Nordgren Christensen presented a proposal to reintroduce some form of conscription. The new model was described as a mixture of goodwill and duty, where the number of people obliged to serve would depend on the volume of standard recruits available. Accordingly, motivation is seen as a key factor to arouse interest among Swedish citizens in military service.

In recent years, the Swedish Armed Forces have been blamed for failure to offer adequate incentives for military service. Today, there is widespread dissatisfaction among Swedish soldiers with the starting salary of 18,000 SEK ($2,000) per month, which is 2,000 SEK ($200) lower than that of a supermarket cashier.

Another problem for professional soldiers in Sweden is that employment contracts are limited to eight years, in a bid to prevent "isolation from society." This makes Swedish servicemen look for employment elsewhere before long, Jimmy Olson noted.

The Armed Forces marketing department is so far cautious not to draw any conclusions about what the comeback of the draft could possibly imply.

Suspected hitman arrested twice killed in crossfire
[DAWN] KARACHI: A suspected hitman was bumped off in what police described as an exchange of fire between them and his accomplices in Korangi Industrial Area just a day after he had been rejugged
    Book 'im, Mahmoud!
    by the Pakistain Rangers, Sindh.

The suspects, however, managed to flee following the shootout in the early hours of Monday, the police said. The alleged hitman, Abdul Malik, 20, had escaped along with his accomplice Mohammad Imtiaz from police custody on Friday evening under mysterious circumstances after the killing of a police constable.

Initial investigations into their escape and the policeman’s murder led to the arrest of Korangi police Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Abdul Wasay whose pistol had been used in the crime. In the early hours of Sunday, the alleged hitman, Abdul Malik, who was said to be involved in drug business, was arrested again.

Landhi SP Arif Aslam told Dawn that a police team, led by Korangi DSP (Investigations) Raja Mehmoodul Hasan, took Malik along to trace the hideout of his accomplices near TCF godown in Korangi. They were conducting a raid when they came under attack, the officer said, adding that the held suspect was killed by the firing of his accomplices.

He said the armed suspects managed to flee following the brief encounter.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination. Additional police surgeon Dr Kaleem Sheikh said the dear departed sustained three gunshot wounds. All the three bullets pierced his body, he said, adding that the dear departed was hit by bullets in the face, head and arm.

The Landhi SP said the dear departed was involved in the assassination'>assassination of coppers. Three days ago, he along with another suspected hitman, Imtiaz, had fled from police custody after the killing of a police constable, Rafiq, in a car ambush near Malir River. SIO Wasay who was taking them in his private car from an antiterrorism court to the Korangi cop shoppe remained unhurt in the attack. Initial investigations showed that the firing was carried out with his "missing" pistol from inside the car. The mysterious circumstances under which the suspected hitmen fled led to the arrest of the SIO.

Malik was rearrested from the Korangi area by the paramilitary force on tip off late Saturday night.

US hits ISIS Libya positions as air war rages on
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US military aircraft pounded ISIS positions in the Death Eaters’ former Libyan stronghold of Sirte over the weekend, as the US air campaign entered its third month, the Pentagon said Monday.

According to the US military’s Africa Command, US pilots conducted 20 air strikes on Sunday alone, most of them against "enemy fighting positions."

When the Pentagon announced its latest front in the war against the ISIS on August 1, officials said the campaign to help local forces push the murderous Moslems from the coastal city of Sirte would likely be quick, taking "weeks, not months."

The military action followed a request by the UN-supported Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), and President Barack Obama
Republicans can come along for the ride, but they've got to sit in the back...
’s administration has stressed that ongoing US involvement would be framed by the interim Libyan government’s needs.

Navy Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon front man, said the timeline for the US air campaign continues to be dictated by the GNA.

"Every one of the strikes we do is based on a request from them, and we are down now into the last, densest part of the city," Davis said.

"As they get to the dense areas, it’s very hard to take out these sniper positions with anything other than air strikes."

    The Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based GNA launched an operation in May to retake Sirte, the hometown of slain dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
that the murderous Moslems have controlled since June 2015.

Since the US air operation began August 1, US warplanes, drones and choppers have conducted more than 200 strikes.

Many of the strikes are being conducted from the USS Wasp, an amphibious assault ship off the Libyan coast in the Mediterranean.

The vessel can launch Marine Corps AH-1W SuperCobra attack helicopters and Harrier jets.

The fighting has left more than 450 GNA fighters dead and 2,500 maimed. The ISIS corpse count is not known.

The fall of Sirte, 450 kilometers (280 miles) east of Tripoli, would represent a significant blow to ISIS, which has also faced a series of setbacks in Syria and Iraq.

Stein: The Orwellian Bullying of Donald Trump
"This election has taken on a Newspeak, Big Brother, Thought Police quality. It's the same quality that bullies use everywhere. The horrible joke is that it's the Hillary people who are doing it -- but they are the ones who call Trump a bully. Don't get me wrong. In a small, schoolyard way, Trump was a bully in the primaries. But now he's up against the master Sturmabteilung bullies of the left. It's a terrifying proposition: the one party media and anyone who speaks against it is a Thought Criminal ( "Thoughtcrime does not entail death, Winston...Thoughtcrime is death....") and then the one-party state. Pray for a Republican Congress. But in the meantime, the walls have ears."

#1  It's Ok. Donald is a big boy, he can take it. More importantly, unlike his predecessors, he can dish it out.

#2  At the close of the Spanish Civil War George Orwell resided in Barcelona and cast his anathama on both the Left (the Anarchists and Communists) and Right (the Fascists). Living hand to mouth, I wonder if the starving writer had any idea how important his prognostication of modern political movements ("thoughtcrime is death") would one day become.

Divine inspiration only. He surely could never have imagined an American Obama or a Clinton.

#4  ...well our founders did, that's why they wrote the text of the Constitution they way they did. It just got 'interpreted' out of existence. The fundamental flaw was to have one branch of government immune to accountability and allowed to sit for life.

    Syrian regulars push into Aleppo
    al-Manar

Syrian military and allied forces advanced against terrorist groups during intense street battles in the heart of Aleppo on Tuesday, following the US withdrawal from talks with Russia.

On Tuesday, fighters seized several high-rise buildings from armed groups in the city centre, pushing north towards other opposition districts.

The opposition UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the army forces were “gradually advancing” after street battles on the front line dividing the rebel-held east from the government-controlled west.

“They are focusing on the tall buildings, which were once government administration buildings, because they can monitor entire streets and neighborhoods from there,” Observatory said.

Syrian state news agency SANA reported that terrorists’ shelling on the government-held west, including on the Aleppo University campus, left six people dead on Tuesday.

The Syrian army announced a major Russian-backed military push nearly two weeks ago to capture the rebel-held eastern half of Aleppo, once the country’s commercial hub.

Bandits Met With Guns Blazing in Texas Jewelry Store Robbery
One member of Jeff's Jewelry store posse responds with AK47.
An employee of a jewelry store in Conroe, Texas, pulled an AK-47 from behind the counter to stop four would-be armed robbers. One of the armed robbers opened fire and multiple employees returned fire, killing the suspect.

Jeffery Turner, Jr., owner of Jeffs Jewelry Store in Conroe, told police that four men entered his store and demanded jewelry, purses and other items. At least one of the robbers displayed a firearm, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter Scott Engle. One of Turners employees responded by pulling an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle from behind the counter. The gunman fired at the store employees and a firefight ensued. At least three employees were said to have fired weapons at the robbery suspects.

The suspect who began shooting was struck and killed in the gun fight. The other three suspects escaped in a white Dodge Charger. Police found the Charger not far from the scene of the robbery. The suspects in the failed robbery attempt had abandoned the car and remain at large, Engle reported.

Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased suspect.

The attempted robbery took place on Monday afternoon at about 12:30 p.m.

Turners attorney, E. Tay Bond, spoke with the Conroe Couriers Catherine Dominguez. "You always have a right to defend yourself, especially when the robber shoots at you." Bond confirmed that Turner keeps an AK-47 in the store for defensive purposes.

The AK-47 rifle is manufactured in both automatic and semi-automatic models. In a semi-automatic weapon you must pull the trigger each time you want to fire. An automatic weapon will fire as long as you hold the trigger, until you run out of ammunition.

Conroe Police Departments Lt. Dorcy McGinnis told the Conroe newspaper, "There was a lot of gunfire. She reported the stores windows were broken out from the "bullet spray."

Texas's "Castle Doctrine" laws allow a business owner or employee to have a weapon for self-defense and to use that weapon to protect their life and the lives of others.

Turners store had previously been robbed in 2014 when a group of men smashed through the glass door with a sledgehammer. At that time, Dominguez reported, one of the employees grabbed a shotgun and the would-be robbers said, "They've got guns. Let's get out of here."
A mantra for still-alive robbers everywhere...
The store employees were able to successfully stop the robbery and protect the lives of other employees and customers who were threatened by the armed gunmen.

A search for the suspects, which included support from a Drug Enforcement Agency helicopter, was not successful and the police manhunt continues. It has not been reported if any of the other suspects were injured in the hail of gunfire.
Pray for sepsis, or at least a sucking chest wound...

#1  Used to trade with an upscale coin shoppe owner who was severely beaten and robbed. He reopened with dual locking doors and entry chamber. Then I noticed he was packing, at this point I must add that this guy was a frail and gentle soul, whose main passion in life was hunting odd varieties of early U.S. 1/2 cents. Then I noticed the dawg, then I noticed the other dawgs. Rottweilers and Dobies, they were watch me like a hawk. Still in business, never robbed again. Must go visit him sometime. Still need a 1908S in matching AU for my collection.

#3  Used to work with an doc who had been robbed & shot during office hours when he worked in Detroit in the late 1970's. He then became an ER doc and packed a pistol in an ankle holster whenever he was on duty, this in rural Ohio.
Also met an EMT in Denver who did the same on his ambulance runs.
