Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas hospitalized, report says
A West Bank hospital official says Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will undergo a heart test after being hospitalized.
"There it is, black and shrunk, like a lump of misshapen coal, kinda like a deformed briquet"
The official says Abbas, 81, will undergo a cardiac catheterization, a procedure in which a thin tube is inserted into a blood vessel to examine the strength of his heart.

Abbas was taken to a hospital in the West Bank city of Ramallah after feeling "tired" Thursday, according to a Palestinian official.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the president's condition with the media.
"I can say no more"
Update from The Times of Israel at 6:20 p.m. ET:
After heart scare, doctors give Abbas clean bill of health

“His arteries look great, and there is no need for him to stay in the hospital,” heart specialist Dr. Mohammed al-Batrawi said. “He is leaving shortly.”

Indian call center employees posing as the IRS may have bilked Americans out of millions
[WAPO] NEW DELHI -- Computer-savvy criminals posing as Internal Revenue Service officers at call centers in India may have bilked unsuspecting Americans out of millions, police in India said Thursday.

Police conducted a dramatic midnight raid at a call center in the country’s commercial capital of Mumbai Tuesday, and detained 770 employees for questioning, of which 70 were later charged with fraud, wrongful impersonation and violating the country’s Internet safety law.

The call centers were making more than $150,000 a day through these scams that took place for a little over a year, police said.

The callers told their American victims they were conducting a "tax revision" or that they had defaulted on payments to the I.R.S. and would then obtain their personal finance information and withdraw money from their bank accounts, according to Param Bir Singh, a senior police officer in Mumbai who led the raid.

#6  Ask them for their IRS employee ID number - it should be a 7 (old-timers) or 10 (relative newbies) digit number. if it's the 10 digit one, it always starts with '1000'.

Ask them what field office they work out of. They'll usually respond with 'Washington'. WRONG! That's the national headquarters.

Ask them which year the assessment is for. When they give you the year, pepper them with questions - What's my social security number / adjusted gross income, etc. Watch them choke.

Don't forget to say rude things about their sisters!

Africa Subsaharan
Afrobarometer poll: Disregard for the 'Rule of Law' still plagues 54 African nations
[TSA] The Ibrahim Index of African Governance, an organisation founded by a Sudanese telecommunications magnate, has awarded the African continent just one point more than it had back in 2006 rating Africa's 54 countries rather poorly.

The index - seen as "the strongest governance survey of Africa" - rates countries in 95 different criteria gathered from 34 independent sources, as well as data from Afrobarometer polls, gauging public perceptions on everything from corruption to perceived and experienced economic opportunities.

The survey noted that, while a few countries have improved individually, the continent as a whole still struggles with a disregard for the rule of law and the inability to ensure safety and security.

"The positive side is that governance on the continent has improved. It may be only slightly, but it is progress. Perhaps the most worrying trend is the deterioration of rule of law and safety, personal safety," the organisation's Mary Robinson, who also served as president of Ireland, told the Associated Press.

South Africa, as the continent's largest economy and most industrialised nation, still manages to hold a spot in the top 10, but was one of the countries with the largest decline due to Eskom's inability to supply [electrical] constant power; unemployment and government's poor economic policies.

Consistently ranked as Africa's best-run country, Mauritius tops the list of best-performing nations.

#1  'Governance improves' - 'Rule of Law deteriorates ?'

Only slightly counterintuitive, but it is Africa after all. Perhaps 'improvement' is defined as governmental expansion... or am I using an incorrect western model ?

Afrobarometer anomaly, genetic imperative, or coincidence? You decide.

Matthew Slams Haiti w/145MPH Winds, Bahamas, Dominican Republic
Rescue workers in Haiti are struggling to reach parts of the country cut off by Hurricane Matthew, the most powerful Caribbean storm in nearly a decade.

The hurricane has caused extensive damage in Haiti, killing at least 23 people. Another four also died in the neighbouring Dominican Republic.

A presidential election due this weekend in Haiti has been postponed.

The storm is now pounding the Bahamas. It is expected to intensify as it moves towards the US state of Florida.

Florida Governor Rick Scott said his state could be facing its biggest evacuation ever.

Trey Gowdy: ‘If This Conduct Doesn't Warrant Prosecution, What Does?!'
[PJ] Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is still questioning the investigation into Hillary Clinton's deleted emails and private server. He asks, "If this conduct doesn't warrant prosecution, what does?! He says, possibly unfortunately, that the only thing left to be done is to convince the public that Hillary is a corrupt person and to advocate against voting for her.

What do you think of Gowdy's statements? Leave your comments below.

#1  Congressman Gowdy, I don't know what is prosecutable anymore after watching the FBI and DOJ investigation charade. The endless destruction of evidence--even after evidence has been subpoenaed, obstruction of justice, clandestine meetings to cut deals, the mishandling of classified information, the pay-for-play deals of the Clinton Foundation, Benghazi, the constant lying, the ignoring of subpoenas, money laundering, primary voter fraud, foreign political donations, and on and on and on is just jaw-dropping. To the citizen out here, it appears there is no limit to criminality. The bar has been raised and raised and raised again for what is criminal. There are two systems of justice in this country as the result of the Clintons. One for the Clintons and their associates and one for the rest of us. In fact the country has become more lawless as the result of the Clinton's flaunting of the law--if there even is a rule of law anymore.

Science & Technology
New Evidence Suggests Old Testament Is Older Than Skeptics Think
[PJMedia] A new study revealed that literacy in the ancient kingdom of Judah was more widespread than previously thought, undermining skeptics' arguments for the unreliability of many Old Testament books. Israeli mathematicians and archaeologists teamed up to investigate evidence that suggests key Bible texts were composed earlier than many scholars think.

A Tel Aviv University team used handwriting analysis technology like that used by intelligence agencies and banks to analyze signatures, the Associated Press reported. This analysis determined that a group of ancient Hebrew inscriptions, dated back to 600 B.C., were written by six different authors, suggesting widespread literacy in the ancient kingdom.

"We're dealing with really low-level soldiers in a remote place who can write," co-author Israel Finkelstein told Live Science. "So there must have been some sort of educational system in Judah at that time."

Scholars have long believed that the Bible was written at the time of the events catalogued in its pages. Skeptics have doubted these claims, however, arguing that the scribes and literate officials mentioned in the texts are a literary fiction. This group of scholars has claimed that the Old Testament was written after the kingdom of Judah fell to the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar in 586 B.C. Some have even argued that the Old Testament works were compiled even later, under Persian or Greek rule.

But this new evidence points toward an earlier date, Finkelstein argued. His study found a new way to address the question. Decades ago, archaeologists uncovered archaic ink writings on ostraca (pottery shards) from a frontier fort called Arad, a garrison located far away from the Judean kingdom's capitol, Jerusalem. Finkelstein said he wondered if these inscriptions, which have been dated to 600 B.C., and were written over the course of a few months, could reveal the level of literacy in the kingdom.

Finkelstein teamed up with Arie Shaus, a mathematics and archeology doctoral candidate at Tel Aviv University, and Shira Faigenbaum-Golovin, an applied mathematics doctoral candidate at that university. These two led a team using computer programs to scan digital images of the text, fill in missing lines of text, and analyze each stroke of ink. Using handwriting technology, the computer algorithms determined that the 18 inscriptions were written by at least six different people.

Those six authors represented a wide range in military rank. Malkiyahu, commander of the fort, authored some, as did the lowly deputy quartermaster. More impressive, these messages were written with proper spelling and syntax.
quartermasters in 6th century BC!
"This is really quite amazing," Finkelstein told LiveScience. He emphasized the remoteness of the fort, and marveled that at least six people there could write -- and write properly. Since other border forts have similar ostraca, it seems reasonable to conclude that writing in the late period of the kingdom of Judah was widespread, at least within the army.

The Meaning of Donald Trump - An American Conservative's Perspective
h/t Instapundit
Understanding the rise of Donald Trump requires an understanding of America’s unique political culture, a political culture that is very different from that of Europe in general and that of Germany in particular. It is easy to try to place the rise of Trump in unrelated contexts and to try to wedge it into paradigms that may make the observer more comfortable, but this provides little insight into the reality behind this important phenomenon.

The rise of Donald Trump is not a fascist phenomenon, nor is it conservative in the American sense. Rather Trump, along with the rise of defeated Democrat nominee and self-described Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders, represents a power shift among the coalitions making up the American political parties. These two movements represent the rise of Americans who feel that they have been voiceless and subject to rule by a self-dealing, dishonest, and corrupt elite that controls the narrative through lies, ignores their concerns, and holds them in contempt.

...Perhaps most important, Trump represents both a repudiation of the liberal demands for conformity of thought, often lumped generally under the label "political correctness," and a rejection of the "rigged system" that sees one set of laws for the elite and another for regular citizens.

...But Trump is no traditional American conservative. He defies much of what the Republican Party had stood for in recent decades. He brought to the surface previously marginalized views within the party. The Republican Party had defined itself with free trade, but in doing so ignored many of its constituents who have seen their solid, working class manufacturing jobs moved overseas.

...Finally, while aggressively honoring America’s military and veterans, he has turned traditional Republican hawkishness on its head. He still embraces the general consensus that America must remain militarily unchallenged, but he rejects the unlimited use of American power.
To some of us outside USA, America's "world policing" - especially under dem presidents - looks like bull in china shop. And, of course, a lot of it is done on behest EU's tranzi elites - a European ideology I personally consider on par with Communism or Nazism, only more insidiously dangerous.
...Furthermore, Trump has given voice to the feeling that those America has fought to free ‐ and keep free ‐ are ungrateful and unwilling to shoulder the burden of their own defense.
They neither willing to invest in defense, or to give up their beloved sport of bear baiting

Half the nation wants "free stuff" and can hardly read, the Democrats own the Biased Media and the younger generation don't have jobs and have no future, actually do live in their parents basements . Stick up Majic Marts and "protest" they don't know what and want to blame " the cops".
Ass cracks at Walmart.

The Military actually is the closest thing to America as it once was. They still believe in honor and loyalty and keeping their Word. Obey the Constitution and leave the politicians in place. Keep to your Oath.
And the Politicians are gravy sucking Lawyers who buy and sell.
And guys who shave watch your daughter in the toilet and transvestites are "heroes". And young feminist women wonder where all the men have gone?

The younger generation want their "fair share". But they don't want the responsibility or the accountability.

Obama admin sequesters key docs relating to Iranian secret deals
[Free Beacon] Key documents relating to the Obama administration's secret negotiations with Iran, including a $1.7 billion cash payment, are being stored at a highly secure site on Capitol Hill, preventing the public and many in Congress from accessing them, according to multiple sources who described the situation to the Washington Free Beacon.

The documents are not technically classified but are being kept in a "secure reading space" where the majority of congressional officials cannot access them. Those cleared are forced to relinquish their cellular devices and are barred from taking notes, undermining the ability of staffers to brief their lawmakers on the contents, according to the sources.

Sources further disclosed that joint U.S.-Iranian signatures across the three documents add up to a package deal between Washington and Iran's Intelligence Ministry, the country's internal spy agency. Sources familiar with a closed-door January briefing by senior Obama administration officials told the Free Beacon they were informed the United States negotiated with "the Iranian intelligence apparatus."

DHS Deputy Sec Resigns over His Ethics Violations involving HRC's brother
[Daily Caller] Department of Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas sent out an email Wednesday announcing his resignation.

The announcement follows an investigation by The Daily Caller News Foundation that showed neither the DHS, nor the Office of Government Ethics properly examined major ethics violations related to his fast-tracking of visas for a company run by Hillary Clinton's brother.

DHS spokeswoman Marsha Catron told The Daily Caller News Foundation Wednesday that Mayorkas is leaving the agency a couple months early -- before the Obama administration comes to a close and a new administration takes over.

"I am writing to inform you that my last official day as the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security will be October 28th," Mayorkas said in an email obtained by The DCNF.

"In June 2013, President Obama nominated Mayorkas as the Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security.[8] Mayorkas' role in managing the EB-5 Visa program was questioned by an Inspector General's report.[9] A meeting with former GreenTech Automotive executive and Virginia governor-elect Terry McAuliffe was also questioned.[10]

On December 16, 2013, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed for cloture on Mayorkas' nomination to cut off a filibuster by Republican senators. On December 19, 2013, the Senate voted 55-45 for cloture on his nomination. The next day, the Senate confirmed Mayorkas in a 54-41 vote and he was sworn-in on December 23.[11][12] No Republicans voted yes. Mayorkas reports to Homeland Security Secretary, Jeh Johnson.[13]
Mayorkas announced his last official day with DHS is 10/28/16."

BLM tactics prompt questions about true aims of social justice movement
[Wash Times] Protests over police shootings of black men. Outrage over gender bias in business and government. Panic over melting ice caps and rising sea levels. Demonstrations against the "1 percent."

Racism. Sexism. Environmentalism. Classism. What's a social justice warrior to do? Protest without end, apparently.

D'Artagnan Scorza, executive director and founder of the Los Angeles-based Social Justice Learning Institute, says the social justice movement aims to uplift different groups who have been staggered and stymied by the weight of historical prejudices, oppression, exclusion and other transgressions.

"Social justice is an umbrella that encompasses a deeper desire for individuals and communities to see injustices made right," Mr. Scorza says. "That's really the goal."

Yet the concrete, ultimate goals of the social justice movement often go unheard amid the noise and the furor of the protest of the moment, be it a rally for a new minimum wage law, calls for single-payer universal health care or demands that police release body-camera video footage of the latest shooting of an African-American.

Those goals appear as varied as the progressive factions that compose the social justice movement -- often unrelated, sometimes redundant and occasionally competitive. Societal change so profound that no single policy or set of policies could address or deliver seems to be movement's endpoint, and success a distant speck of possibility on a far-off horizon.

Yup, especially since it is a 'Public Space' now. Looks like they even moved the panel over a bit too, based on the 'creative' wall raceway configuration. Maybe the local inspector gave them a variance (if he/she was even called).

Probably just a 'repurposed' janitor's closet. In those you can have the panel somewhat close to a slop sink as access is restricted to 'qualified personnel' (supposedly).

Afghanistan
Karzai reluctant to endorse Pakistan as ‘State Sponsor of Terrorism’
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
appeared reluctant to endorse the move to label Pakistain as ’State Sponsor of Terrorism’ as he considered the goodwill of Pak people towards the Afghan people.

In an exclusive with Times Now TV, Karzai emphasized on the role of the Pak people for hosting millions of Afghan refugees as he was asked if he would support to label Pakistain as ’State Sponsors of Pakistain’.

The former Afghanistan's Caped President said ’Well, see Pakistain is not only the Pak government or the Pakistain military establishment.

Pakistain is also the people of Pakistain and nearly 200 million people of Pakistain who are victims of terrorism as much as Afghanistan is India is. So, I wish the people of Pakistain will and I would never want to use a word or an action that would in any manner that would reduce the peace prosperity and the dignity of people of Pakistain."

Karzai further added "But in regard to the establishment of Pakistain and as regard to the military we should do all we can and to bring them to recognizing that there is a different way in behaving with neigbors and that way is a civilized and peaceful relation."

This comes as two powerful American politicians introduced an act in the US House of Representatives late last month to designate Pakistain a State Sponsor of terrorism.

Congressman Ted Poe, who is Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, said "It is time we stopped paying Pakistain for its betrayal and designate it for what it is: a state sponsor of terrorism."

The act, Pakistain State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation’ (HR 6069) has been introduced by Republican Poe along with Congressman Dana Rohrabacher
...Representative for Caliphornia's 48th congressional district, and previously the 46th, 45th and 42nd, serving since 1989. He is a member of the Republican Party and a former speech writer for President Reagan...
of the Democratic Party, who is Ranking member of this influential Congressional Committee on terrorism.

Poe further added "Not only is Pakistain an untrustworthy ally, Islamabad has also aided and abetted enemies of the US for years."

"From harboring the late Osama bin Laden
... who is no longer with us, and won't be again...
to its cozy relationship with the Haqqani network, there is more than enough evidence to determine whose side Pakistain is on in the War on Terror. And it’s not America’s," he alleged.

According to Poe, the bill will require the Obama Administration to formally answer this question.

The President must issue a report within 90 days of passage detailing whether or not Pakistain has provided support for international terrorism, he said.

Arabia
Euros protest Houthi's stab at a government
France and Britain denounced on Tuesday the unilateral decision taken by rebels, who appointed Abdel Aziz bin Habtoor to form what they said was a “national salvation” cabinet, stressing the move would further complicate Yemen’s peace process.

The UK Minister for Africa and Middle East, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Tobias Ellwood, said the decision taken by Houthis and their ally, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, to form a so-called national salvation cabinet is considered a unilateral decision and constitutes a direct threat to the U.N.-sponsored peace operation.

Ellwood expressed concern over the ongoing steps taken by Houthis and Saleh.

In France, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that Houthis’ decision to form a new government contradicts the path of Yemeni peace talks, adding it was essential to reach a political solution in the country.

Yemen’s President Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi’s internationally recognized government, which is supported by an alliance of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia, is fighting the Houthis and Saleh militias who took over the capital Sana’a in 2014.

A Yemeni diplomat told Asharq Al-Awsat on Tuesday that the international community and the U.N. Security Council would never recognize the one-sided decisions made by the Houthis and Saleh militias, such as the establishment of a Supreme Political Council and a cabinet.

The diplomat, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, said that the Yemeni legitimate government does not support any efforts made outside the framework of the U.N., led by Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and based on the Gulf initiative and Security Council Resolution 2216.

Yemen’s representative to the U.N. Ambassador Khalid Al-Yamani told Asharq Al-Awsat that Houthis and their followers do not want peace in Yemen.

He said rebels are desperately trying to reach a solution that would enforce the rule of the Iran-backed militias in the country.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s National Army and Popular Resistance forces liberated on Tuesday the strategic Jabal Bahra, considered the highest summit in the Harib Nihm area, east of Sana’a.

Sources from the Popular Resistance told Asharq Al-Awsat that their forces were able to control the hill after fierce battles with rebel militias, and thanks to the support of Arab coalition warplanes, which launched around 15 raids in the area.

Other Yemeni informed sources said army forces began a military mobilization to prepare for a wide operation to liberate Saada province, which is the main stronghold of Houthis in Yemen.

US Navy deploys 3 ships off the coast of Yemen
Three US warships are operating off the Yemeni coast following a guided missile attack against a UAE operated ship by Houthi militias, US Navy Institute News reported on Tuesday.

The ships are on station near the Bab al-Mandeb strait that links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. Officials said the move was prompted by the guided missile attack on the UAE ship that was delivering aid to Yemen on Saturday.

The strait is a key transit route for ships passing from the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal into the Indian Ocean.

The UAE said on Wednesday that there were injuries among civilian crewmen of the vessel that was hit by Houthi militias. The foreign ministry did not say how many were wounded in the Friday night attack but said they were receiving treatment in the UAE.

The UAE military had previously said there were no casualties in the attack in the busy shipping lane that links the Suez Canal and the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

The ministry identified the vessel as the HSV-2 Swift, a high-speed catamaran which it said had been chartered from the Abu-Dhabi-based National Marine Dredging Company. It said the ship is “civilian” and “does not have any military capability,” although the vessel has previously been leased by the US Navy and operated with a mixed military-civilian crew.

The ministry condemned the “heinous attack” which it said had “serious repercussions for the freedom of navigation.”

The UN Security Council too strongly condemned the attack in a statement on Tuesday.

“The members of the Security Council take threats to shipping around Bab al-Mandab, a strategically important shipping passage, extremely seriously,” the statement said. “The members of the Security Council called for such attacks to cease immediately and urged necessary steps to be taken to de-escalate the situation.”

The INS Hanit, as an aside, was also hit higher-up, and not lower in the hull. That missile (and another which sunk a merchant ship) were under the control of the IRGC and Hesb'allah. I suspect that was also the case in this instance.

Update: Another source.

India-Pakistan
Nato weapons recovered from house in Karachi
KARACHI: A huge cache of Nato weapons and ammunition was recovered by police on Wednesday during a raid on an empty house in the Azizabad area of the metropolis.

Police reportedly seized a large number of weapons including anti-aircraft guns, SMGs, LMGs, sniper rifles, hand grenades and rocket launchers hidden in the water tank of the empty house.

Bulletproof jackets and helmets were also recovered during the raid by police, DawnNews reported.

The raid was conducted after the police was tipped off by a political worker already in police custody.

Karachi police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar termed it the "biggest recovery of arms and ammunition in the history of Karachi".

“In light of disclosures made by a detained suspect, big-wigs of a political party provided help in procuring these arms and ammunition,” said the AIG Karachi, without naming the party and its leaders.

The city police chief claimed that these arms were supposed to be used by the elements residing in London particularly with cooperation of RAW (Indian intelligence agency) for terror activities in the metropolis but it was foiled through timely action by security institutions.

“These weapons were hidden for terror acts to be perpetrated by terrorists of a political party based in South Africa,” said the AIG Karachi.

All the recovered weapons were shifted to the office of Sindh Inspector General.

According to the press release issued by Sindh Police, recovered weapons included 11 anti-aircraft guns, 17 grenade launchers, 39 LMGs, 9 RPG-7, 82 SMGs, 11 7-MM, one M-16, 32 China rifles 7.62, 10 G-3, 5 sniper rifles, 2 repeaters, 9 short SMGs and 245 magazines of SMGs and G-3.

The police also claimed seizing 200 hand grenades, 2000 rifle grenades, 140 bullet-proof jackets and huge quantity of ammunition.

During his press conference, the Sindh AIG informed the media that forensic tests will be conducted to determine whether the weapons have been used in the past to conduct terrorist activities in the metropolis.

He also told that the police are still looking into how long the house has been vacant and who it belongs to.

Earlier in March, a large cache of ammunition was recovered by Rangers during a raid at MQM headquarters, Nine Zero. According to Rangers spokesperson Colonel Tahir, the ammunition stolen from Nato containers was also seized during the search operation.

A number of party workers, including member of MQM's Rabita Committee Amir Khan, were detained during the raid. Huge cache of arms seized near Nine Zero in Azizabad ‘London elements with cooperation of RAW planning killings through network of political party based in South Africa’

Al Gore to campaign for Clinton, hoping to galvanize young voters on climate change
[WASHINGTONPOST] Former vice president Al Gore
Former Vice President, Nobel Prize winner, and crazed sex poodle Al Gore
will start campaigning for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another John C. Calhoun ...
, according to individuals briefed on the plan, in an effort to mobilize young voters who see climate change as a key issue.

The decision by Gore to plunge into the campaign during the final weeks shows the extent to which Democrats remain concerned that Clinton has yet to connect with many millennials, some of whom are backing third-party candidates this year. The former vice president, a climate activist, will speak about not just Clinton’s plan to address global warming, but also the idea that voting for an independent presidential candidate could deliver the White House to Republicans in the same way that Ralph Nader’s candidacy helped undermine his presidential bid in 2000.

Government
Obama to NatSec Agencies: Increase Diversity, Train on 'Implicit or Unconscious Bias'
[PJ] WASHINGTON -- President Obama issued a memo to heads of government agencies today on increasing diversity in the national security workforce to make the diplomacy, development, defense, intelligence, law enforcement, and homeland security complex "more effective at problem solving than homogeneous groups."

The national security workforce in the federal government consists of more than 3 million workers from agencies such as the Intelligence Community, USAID, Treasury Department, State Department, Justice Department, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Obama said data collected on the departments "indicate that agencies in this workforce are less diverse on average than the rest of the federal government," and in 2015 only the State Department USAID Civil Services "were more diverse in terms of gender, race, and ethnicity than the federal workforce as a whole."

The president reminded agency heads of his 2011 directive to "promote diversity and inclusion" in the federal workforce as a whole, and directed national security leaders to "ensure their diversity and inclusion practices are fully integrated into broader succession planning efforts and supported by sufficient resource allocations and effective programs that invest in personnel development and engagement."

Agencies will be required yearly to provide their demographic breakdown to the general public. Applicant data will be analyzed for "fairness and inclusiveness" in the recruitment process and "agencies shall develop a system to collect and analyze applicant flow data for as many positions as practicable in order to identify future areas for improvement in attracting diverse talent, with particular attention to senior and management positions." Agencies will expand the categories of voluntary information current employees can provide to include details "such as information regarding sexual orientation or gender identity."

Obama directed interviews with current employees and exit interviews to be studied by leaders for "if and how the results of the interviews differ by gender, race and national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, and other demographic variables" with any resulting policy recommendations.

Clinton off the trail
[CNN] The Democratic nominee is off the campaign trail ahead of Sunday's debate, leaving media appearances and public rallies to her deep bench of high-profile surrogates, including her immediate family, the first family and Former Vice President, Nobel Prize winner, and crazed sex poodle Al Gore. Clinton does, however, have fundraisers slated for Wednesday and Thursday, including one that will be open to cameras.

Advisers say the reason behind the decision is simple: the debate carries far greater importance than a standard campaign event. The first debate was viewed by more than 80 million, far more than the audience for any rally.

Clinton's top takeaway from her first debate with Trump was that preparation matters.
Get the message, Donald?
So ahead of the contest at Washington University, Clinton will hunker down with a select group of aides later this week to refine her attacks on Trump and prepare for the added level of difficulty created by a live audience that asks questions.

Clinton is spending Wednesday preparing for the town hall debate at her home in Washington.

John Podesta, the campaign chairman, Jake Sullivan, Clinton's top policy adviser, and Ron Klain and Karen Dunn, two top members of Clinton's debate team, were all seen entering her home. The small group of aides were joined by Sara Solow, Kristine Costa and Tony Carrk, all members of the small group of aides working with Clinton ahead of Sunday's debate.

If she really has something serious that is causing symptoms like her 9/11 freezeup and apparently involuntary head shaking they must be hiding it somehow for the debates. How?

Afghanistan
Suicide attack in Kabul leaves at least 4 civilians wounded
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least four civilians were maimed in an kaboom in capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
late on Wednesday afternoon, the security officials said.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) front man, Sediq Sediqi, said the incident took place after a jacket wallah targeted a government vehicle in Dar-ul-Aman road.

He said the target of the suicide bomber was a vehicle of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan which left least 4 civilians maimed.

No group including the Taliban bandidos Lion of Islams have so far grabbed credit behind the incident.

The latest attack on the ministry employees comes as two days after an kaboom rocked Kabul city, leaving at least one person dead and two others maimed.

The incident on Monday took place in Charqala-e-Wazirabad area of the city targeting a vehicle belonging to a Ministry of Defense employee.

Security officials confirmed that the incident on Monday took place due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which exploded as the MoD employee was crossing the area.

Top Taliban leader in charge of Baghlan war killed by Afghan forces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A top Taliban leader who was actively in charge of leading the group’s insurgency in northern Baghlan province was killed during festivities with the Afghan cops.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the slain Taliban capo was identified as Salam Uzbek who was killed along with 15 of fighters.

MoI further added that Uzbek was killed after launching a coordinated attack on security posts in the village of Niazullah in Baglan-e-Markazi district.

At least 25 Lions of Islam were also maimed during the festivities, MoI said, adding that commander Uzbek was one of the prominent leaders of the Taliban group who was leading the war in Baghlan since a long time.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Baghlan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where the Taliban Lions of Islam and holy warriors belonging to other bad boy groups are actively operating in a number of its remote districts.

The death of commander Uzbek comes as the group has been launching major attacks on Afghan cops during the recent months.

Taliban launched a coordianted attack on the strategic Kunduz city earlier this year with an aim to recapture the control of the city but the attack was repulsed by the Afghan forces.

Iraq
Daesh leaders defecting before Mosul operation
[AA.TR] ISIS leaders are leaving djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
as Iraqi forces prepare to take the city held by the krazed killer group since 2014, a Canadian general said Wednesday.

Comments by Brig. Gen. Dave Anderson, who heads the U.S.-led coalition’s train-and-equip program for Iraqi and Kurdish peshmerga forces, came during a video conference from Baghdad.

"We've already seen signs of [ISIS] leaders abandoning their posts in Mosul, because they know what's coming. They know that Mosul is going to fall," he said. "Plans are being finalized for the Mosul liberation while shaping operations, positioning of forces, logistics and ammunition and the relentless employment of coalition strikes all set the stage for success in Mosul."

According to the general, the final brigade that will take part in the operation recently began three weeks of training by the coalition that has trained 12 brigades to date -- each comprised of 800 - 1,600 troops for the offensive.

The general estimated that 30,000 - 45,000 forces would be able to hold Iraq’s second largest city following its recapture from ISIS.

Currently there are about 8,000 Ninawa governorate police and 10,000 - 12,000 tribal forces that have been trained and will be employed by the holding force, he said, adding that nonlocal forces would assist in securing the city from outside.

#5  Mosul wasn't really under Iraqi control from 200 forward. During the day...maybe you might have the optics that the Iraqi Shia government might have a modicum of sway, but behind the scenes the Sunni have run that town...if the Sunni believe that the Shia are going to have their retribution...then that number of ISIS fighters will swell to 50,000... This could be really ugly for all involved.

Southeast Asia
Duterte set to talk peace with fugitive Moro leader
[AA.TR] The Philippines president is expected to soon meet and hold talks with runaway Moro leader Nur Misuari in the southern city of Davao to advance peace in the country's Moslem south.

Rodrigo Duterte has said that the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founder -- wanted for a siege on a southern city in which around 200 people died and tens of thousands were displaced -- would be given safe passage and has described him as one leader who maintains influence and stature among all Moro rebels.

Duterte's government is in the process of consolidating all agreements with all Moro groups in an effort to finally achieve peace in the south.

Late Tuesday, however, he rejected a plan by Misuari to bring his own men to Davao for talks.

"That would not be possible anymore. First, he is facing charges and if at all he is allowed to go out, he cannot bring arms," the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted Duterte as saying in a speech in Makati City, Metro Manila.

"I don't care if he will do that, that would not bother me, but the fact is the military and the police will not allow it, and I won’t run roughshod with them if I insist it my way."

Duterte has instead offered to fetch the 77-year-old from Sulu and bring him to Davao for talks, but has not said when such a meeting will take place.

Misuari is wanted for staging a bloody siege in the majority Christian city of Zamboanga in 2013 to protest a grinding of the peace processor by rival group the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which Misuari claims leaves Moslems in the country’s south shortchanged in comparison to an earlier MNLF peace deal.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Today's Idiot
A Maryland beauzeau pretending to be a police officer turned his lights and sirens on behind a real police officer, officials said.

John Vincent Angelini, 51, of Baltimore, was given matching bracelets Wednesday after Montgomery County police said he trailed an off-duty detective driving on the Intercounty Connector in an unmarked car.

The detective was headed eastbound on the ICC near Georgia Avenue about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday when he saw a voiture, as the French say, alongside him. It was a Ford Crown Victoria that looked like an unmarked police car, police said.

The driver of the Crown Victoria then reduced velocity so that he was behind the detective's car and turned on his siren, police said.
"There's no way that could be the real deal there. No way at all."
"The detective felt like he was being pulled over, began to reduce his speed and pulled over to the side of the road, at which point the Crown Victoria abruptly changed lanes again and continued past him," police spokesman Officer Rick Goodale said.

The detective then turned on his own lights and siren and stopped the driver near Layhill Road. He approached the Crown Victoria and saw it had red and blue lights on the grill and more antennae than a column of army ants, police said.
"That IS the real deal? ****!"
Inside, the car had a radio microphone, emergency lights and switches, a dashboard-mounted camera and other police gear. The detective determined that Angelini was not an officer and read him his rights.

"By activating his siren, he represented his vehicle as an emergency vehicle, and he's not authorized to do that," Goodale said.

He was charged with impersonating a police officer and released after posting twenty-five Franklins.

Anyone who believes that Angelini misrepresented himself to them as an officer is asked to call police at 240-773-6370.

#2  I hope the penalties for impersonating a LE officer are very high. People who do this kind of stuff should be thoroughly investigated to make sure they are not using the ruse to facilitate even more crimes. The respect and leeway that most people give members of LE-- and for good reason-- gives someone like this the opportunity to operate with virtual impunity. And that's scary to me.

Iraq
20 Sunni fighters killed by US airstrike near Mosul
[AA.TR] At least 20 Sunni fighters were killed Wednesday by a U.S.-led coalition Arclight airstrike south of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
in northern Iraq.

Tribal commander Nazhan al-Sakhr al-Lahibi told Anadolu Agency the fighters were killed after they were mistakenly hit by coalition planes in the Kharaeb Jabr village, south of Mosul.

There was no comment from the U.S.-led coalition on the claim.

Al-Lahibi said ISIS hard boyz had launched an overnight attack on the village.

"Tribal fighters, however, had managed to kill four bad boys," he said.

In mid-2014, ISIS captured Mosul, along with vast swathes of territory in the country’s northern and western regions.

Recent months have seen the Iraqi army -- backed by a 60-nation coalition led by the U.S. -- retake much territory, especially in the western Anbar province. Nevertheless, ISIS remains in control of several parts of the country, includingMosul.

Iraqi troops and Kurdish peshmerga fighters have recently captured a number of areas on the outskirts of Mosul, which Iraqi officials have vowed to recapture by year’s end.

“The bombardment also resulted in the destruction of the headquarters completely,” the statement added.

The Islamic State group captured the city of Mosul in 10 June 2014, before extending its terrorist activity to other areas in Iraq.

Iraqi kops begin offensive near Salahuddin

Diyala Police Chief, Major General Jassim al-Saadi, said in a press statement, “Today, police forces conducted an operation on the areas located on the border line with Salahuddin Province, in order to chase the ISIS members in the area.”

“The operation covered the villages of al-Hawi, al-Darawich, al-Safid and al-Nay,” Saadi explained. “The operation was launched to secure the borders of Diyala with Salahuddin,” Saadi added.

Afghanistan
Taliban can not and will not win the conflict on the battlefield: Kerry
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The US Secretary State of John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
has said the Talibs group in Afghanistan can not and will not be able to win the conflict on the battlefield.
And Jahwn knows his battlefields...
Kerry delivered the message during his speech at an international conference on Afghanistan and the following the conclusion of a peace deal between Hezb-e-Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
and the Afghan government.

He said the peace deal with Hekmatyar could be a model for reconciliation with the Taliban, insisting that the commanders of Hekmatyar must cease violence, cut ties with terrorist groups and accept the Afghan constitutions’s rights for women and minorities.

"The message from every person here today to the Taliban would be: Take note," Kerry said, adding that the Taliban is still "trying to test the Afghan government’s resolve."

Kerry further added that "There is a path toward an honorable end to the conflict that the Taliban have waged." However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
he insisted that "It is a conflict they cannot and will not be won on the battlefield. A political settlement negotiated with the Afghan government is the only way to end the fighting, ensure lasting stability and achieve a full drawdown ultimately of international military forces, which is their goal."

A boat full of women activists which was headed for the Gazoo Strip before being intercepted and commandeered by the Israeli Navy on Wednesday has docked at the Israeli port of Ashdod without incident. The activists were transferred to authorities "for further processing," the Israeli military said in a statement late Wednesday.

The boat carrying 13 women, including 1976 Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Maguire, was traveling aboard the Zaytouna-Oliva sailboat in the Mediterranean Sea toward the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-run Paleostinian enclave in protest against Israel’s security blockade when it was intercepted some 35 nautical miles (65 kilometers) from the Gazoo coast.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish troops fighting ISIS troops in Ziyara
Turkey’s army said it clashed with ISIS over the border in Syria, leaving one soldier and 23 militants dead, as Ankara stepped up an operation to clear fighters from the war-torn zone.

Three other Turkish soldiers were wounded in the encounter near the Syrian village of Ziyara over the past 24 hours, part of Ankara’s “Euphrates Shield” offensive, the military added on Wednesday.

Turkey’s entry into Syria has raised fears of a further escalation in an increasingly regional conflict.

But Ankara says its efforts to cleanse its border region of ISIS militants are legitimate under international law as self-defense after months of rocket attacks and bombings in cities along the boundary.

President Tayyip Erdogan has also made it clear that Turkish forces are in Syria to prevent the Syrian Kurdish militia from expanding areas under its control.

Two Syrian rebel fighters backed by Turkey died in other clashes with ISIS along the boundary, the Turkish military statement said. The Ankara-backed rebels had seized control of around 980 square km (378 square miles) of territory since Euphrates Shield began on Aug. 24, it added.

Separately, US-led coalition warplanes launched nine air strikes on ISIS targets in northern Syria, killing five further militants, the military said in its daily summary of the Syrian operation.

ISIS shelling slows oil well fire fighting in Qayyarah

Several wells in Iraq’s Qayyara oilfield continue to burn six weeks after the US-backed Iraqi forces ousted ISIS militants from the town as part of their push on the ISIS stronghold of Mosul, the oil ministry said on Wednesday.

The militants torched oil wells in the region to help conceal their positions before fleeing ahead of the government advance into Qayyara, sending black smoke into the sky and oil pouring into main thoroughfares.

Government efforts to put out the remaining oil fires are being hampered by ISIS shelling, and around nine of 15 wells were still ablaze, oil ministry spokesman Asim Jihad said.

The fires “are creating pollution and presenting serious health risks,” the UN refugee agency UNHCR said in an update on the Mosul region.

“Efforts to quell the flames have been impeded reportedly by several attempted attacks by armed groups, which also threaten the safety and sustainability of returns,” UNHCR said, referring to refugees trying to move back to homes from which they fled when ISIS overran the northern Iraqi region in 2014.

Its two main oilfields, Qayyara and Najma, used to produce up to 30,000 barrels per day of heavy crude before it fell under control of the ultra-hardline jihadists.

The oil ministry said on Aug. 30 that it did not expect to resume production from the region before the capture of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city 60 km (40 miles) north of Qayyara.

Prime Minister Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi wants to take back Mosul before the end of this year and the push on the city could start as soon as this month, according to local military commanders.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Booze Allen's Edward J. Snowden 2.0
[NYT] WASHINGTON -- The F.B.I. secretly arrested a National Security Agency contractor in recent weeks and is investigating whether he stole and disclosed highly classified computer code developed to hack into the networks of foreign governments, according to several senior law enforcement and intelligence officials.

The theft raises the embarrassing prospect that for the second time in three years, an insider has managed to steal highly damaging secret information from the N.S.A. In 2013, Edward J. Snowden, who was also a contractor for the agency, took a vast trove of documents that were later passed to journalists, exposing N.S.A. surveillance programs in the United States and abroad.

The contractor was identified as Harold T. Martin III, 51, of Glen Burnie, Md., according to a criminal complaint filed in late August. He was charged with theft of government property, and unauthorized removal or retention of classified documents. During an F.B.I. raid of his house, agents seized documents and digital information stored on electronic devices. A large percentage of the materials found in his house and car contained highly classified information.

Yemeni army captures Houthis in Marib
[Al Arabiya] The capturing of a number of Houthis and forces loyal to former ousted Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh in west Marib by Yemen’s national army and popular resistance forces is one of the latest major setbacks for the Iran-backed militias.

Among those captured were Houthi militia leaders were Hussain al-Mutawakel and Abu Jabar Ahmad al-Houthi, according to Al Arabiya sources.

Civilian sources told Al Arabiya that the Yemeni national army were able to regain control – after violent clashes – of the direct route between the capital Sanaa and Marib through Sirwah district.

The news in Marib comes after security sources confirmed that senior Houthi militia leader Abdullah Qayed al-Fadeea was killed on Tuesday in the frontlines near Najran and on Yemeni grounds by Saudi-led Arab coalition forces.

During the same day, Six civilians were killed and eight wounded on Monday when two rockets fired by Houthi rebels hit a popular market in Taez, military and medical sources said.

Russians say hospitals are legitimate targets
Running the old Soviet military playbook step by step
AMSTERDAM – The Russian Ambassador to the UK, Alexander Yakovenko, confirmed that Syrian and Russian government airstrikes target hospitals.

Activists reported on Wednesday that while Russia and Assad claim to target extremists, “airstrikes in Aleppo destroy homes, hospitals and schools.”

However, the Russian ambassador said that the targeting is justified since Syrian rebels are using the hospitals and civilians as human shields.

“Most hospitals are unmarked rebels’ field facilities. Keeping civilians as a human shield is a well-known terrorist tactic,” Ambassador Yakovenko said.

Syrian and Russian jets resumed their bombing of rebel-held areas, backing Shia militias and the Syrian army to besiege eastern Aleppo.

The intensification of violence in Aleppo followed the breakdown of a Russian-US ceasefire deal last month.

“Children are being killed and maimed. Airstrikes are hitting the few remaining hospitals. The use of bunker-busting bombs means children cannot even safely attend schools that are underground,” Benyam Dawit Mezmur, Chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) said in a press release.

“We call on Syria and Russia, as well the international community, to show they abide by their human rights obligations set out in those treaties and find a way to end this raging conflict now,” Mezmur said.

According to a Reuters report, France is launching a new initiative to resume the ceasefire to prevent the massacring of civilians, and to allow aid into Aleppo.

Packed with Japanese wounded and fighting soldiers in the cave structures defending the island from an American assault which lasted twelve weeks...America lost over 6,000 dead leading up to the Final flame thrower attack against the Hospital and command center inside the Ridge.

On Saipan American Destroyers churned thru Japanese intestines from floating civilian corpses , suicides jumping from the cliffs into the sea. America did what was NECESSARY to win the war. That IS what wars IS. Somebody wins and somebody loses. That's why they call it War.

No "playbook" involved. Just who wins and who loses. Sometimes you shoot their wounded and don't take prisoners. Hospitals are targets.... sometimes. So is your Mother....sometimes. #8  Just imagine the uproar if Israel had done the same thing to Hamas Hospitals.
And Israel would have sent messages in advance to the hospital to evacuate all non-combatants.
And phone calls to all they could identify.
Even when after warnings and phone calls and Hamas prevented non-combatants from leaving a building, bombing it was called an Israeli war crime.
Do the Russians have evidence that Aleppo hospitals are used as rebel headquarters?
Does that justify attacking them without warming?
Or is that genocide?

Iraqi ambassador to Turkey summoned over'occupier' troops slight
[AA.TR] Iraq’s ambassador to Ankara was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday after the Iraqi parliament's characterization of Turkishtroops in Bashiqa as "occupiers," according to a ministry source.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said Hisham Ali Akbar Ibrahim al-Alawi was called to the ministry early Wednesday.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry, for its part, responded by summoning the Turkishambassador to Baghdad.

Ministry front man Ahmed Jamal said the Turkish envoy was summoned "on the background of the provocative Turkish statement about the operation of liberation of djinn-infested Mosul."

ISIS executes 2 in Homs

[ARA News] HOMS – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed on Wednesday two Syrian men in the central governorate of Homs.

One of the victims was a soldier in the Syrian government’s army and the other was a rebel fighter from the opposition-led Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The Islamic State’s Media Office in Homs released footages showing the two men in orange jumpsuits, and two ISIS militants standing in the background.

The radical group accused them of fighting against the so-called Caliphate.

The masked militants beheaded one of the men, and executed the other by firing squad.

“Both them of them had been detained by ISIS during separate clashes in Homs countryside,” local media activist Omar al-Hussein told ARA News.

According to activists, by executing a Syrian regime soldier and an FSA rebel fighter in one propaganda footage ISIS tries to deliver a message that it considers the different parties to conflict in Syria as enemies.

Rooshuns step up air campiagn
ALEPPO – Dozens of civilian casualties were reported in Syria’s northern Aleppo city on Wednesday, after Russian warplanes launched a new wave of airstrikes on opposition-held areas west of the war-torn city.

Russian jets bombed the district of Mazari Shamiko in Aleppo’s western suburb, killing and wounding dozens.

“The airstrikes hit residential buildings in Shamiko, causing a massive destruction to the district,” rights activist Zakariya Hamdo told ARA News.

“At least 23 civilians were killed, mostly children and women,” the source reported.

Also, over 20 people were injured in Wednesday’s raids.

“Most of the injured were pulled from under the rubble. Some of them are in critical condition,” a source in the Shamiko field hospital told ARA News. “Amid the current lack of medical supplies and equipment, the death toll may rise in the coming hours.”

Furthermore, the Russian jets bombed a major pharmaceutical company in Aleppo.

According to local sources, the building of ElSaad Pharmaceutical Company was hit with six rockets during Russian air raids on Aleppo on Wednesday.

“The building was destroyed completely, leaving the city with an acute shortage of medicine,” Hamdo reported.

Qatar slams US ‘state sponsors of terrorism’ bill
[AA.TR] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
on Wednesday slammed proposed legislation in the U.S. that would allow the families of victims of terrorist attacks to sue the foreign governments deemed responsible.

At a meeting of Qatar’s council of ministers chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatari officials described the bill as "a violation of the principle of immunity of sovereign states" and a "dangerous precedent in international relations", Qatar’s official news agency reported.

Entitled the Justice against State Sponsors of Terrorism Act, or JASTA, the bill is supported by the families of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington who hope to sue the Saudi government for its alleged role in the attacks.

Last week, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted in favor of overriding President Barack Obama

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
expressed its "serious concern" over the proposed legislation.

"The adoption of such a law should be a source of great concern to countries that object to the notion of weakening sovereign immunity -- a principle that has guided international relations for hundreds of years," the Saudi Press Agency quoted a Saudi Foreign Ministry source as saying.

Britain
EU orders British press NOT to reveal when terrorists are Muslims
MEDDLING Brussels has said the British press should not report when terrorists are Muslims in a slew of demands to the Government to crack down on the media. A report from the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) found there was an increase in hate speech and racist violence in the UK from 2009 to March 2016.

Blaming the press, ECRI Chair Christian Ahlund, said: “It is no coincidence that racist violence is on the rise in the UK at the same time as we see worrying examples of intolerance and hate speech in the newspapers, online and even among politicians.”

The report makes a whopping 23 recommendations to Theresa May’s Government for changes to criminal law, the freedom of the press, crime reporting and equality law.

And despite the report not analysing coverage of the historic Brexit vote, Mr Ahlund saw fit to comment on the UK's decision to leave the EU. In a sweeping statement, he said: “The Brexit referendum seems to have led to a further rise in ‘anti-foreigner’ sentiment, making it even more important that the British authorities take the steps outlined in our report as a matter of priority.”

The report lays into the British press and urges the government to “give more rigorous training” to reporters.
Send them to the New York Times?
In the 83-page report, the Commission said: “ECRI considers that, in light of the fact that Muslims are increasingly under the spotlight as a result of recent ISIS-related terrorist acts around the world, fuelling prejudice against Muslims shows a reckless disregard, not only for the dignity of the great majority of Muslims in the United Kingdom, but also for their safety.
Not every act of terrorism is committed by a Muslim. But when such an act is committed by a Muslim, isn't is proper to note that? When Eric Rudolph was murdering abortion doctors, everyone knew he was a Christian...
“In this context, it draws attention to a recent study by Teeside University suggesting that where the media stress the Muslim background of perpetrators of terrorist acts, and devote significant coverage to it, the violent backlash against Muslims is likely to be greater than in cases where the perpetrators’ motivation is downplayed or rejected in favour of alternative explanations.”

Despite the creation of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) in 2014 as an independent regulator for newspapers and magazines,
I see your first problem right there...
the “ECRI strongly recommends that the authorities find a way to establish an independent press regulator according to the recommendations set out in the Leveson Report. It recommends more rigorous training for journalists to ensure better compliance with ethical standards.”
Whose ethical standards?
But as Britain prepares to leave the crumbling bloc, the Government waded in to defend freedom of expression. In a written statement to the ECRI, the Government said: “The Government is committed to a free and open press and does not interfere with what the press does and does not publish, as long as the press abides by the law.”
Our law, not yours, so sod off, as they say in British-English...
ECRI is a human rights body of the Council of Europe, composed of independent experts, which monitors problems of racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, intolerance and racial discrimination.
And they monitor problems in a certain way...
The group writes reports on every member state every five years and says the documents are “analyses based on a great deal of information gathered from a wide variety of sources.

In a statement, ECRI said: “ECRI welcomed, among other things, the entry into force of the Equality Act 2010 and the generally strong legislation against racism and racial discrimination in the country, as well as the government’s new hate crime action plan and substantial efforts to promote LGBT rights in the UK which have led to a significant change in attitudes.

“At the same time, the commission noted considerable intolerant political discourse in the UK, particularly focusing on immigration. It said that hate speech continues to be a serious problem in tabloid newspapers, and that online hate speech targeting Muslims in particular has soared since 2013.”

Germany indicts man for joining Shaboobs
Prosecutors have indicted a German man accused of joining the Islamic extremist group al-Shabab in Somalia on terrorism charges.

German federal prosecutors said Tuesday that the indictment against the 28-year-old identified only as Abshir Ahmed A., in line with German privacy rules, was filed Sept. 12 at a Frankfurt court. The suspect was arrested at Frankfurt airport as he returned home in July.

The charges include membership in a foreign terrorist organization and violation of weapons control laws.

Prosecutors say the man is believed to have joined al-Shabab in Somalia in 2012, undergoing weapons training and then being deployed in a defensive position for the group. They say that health problems forced him out of that posting.

European anti-Semites increasingly playing victim
JERUSALEM — One of Europe’s most distinguished anti-Semitism researchers, Monika Schwarz-Friesel, has an alarming message: Scientific measures indicate a massive upsurge of Jew-hatred on the internet, as anti-Semitism reestablishes itself as an increasingly visible element in European mainstream discourse.

A psychologist, linguist and professor of cognitive science at the Technical University of Berlin, Schwarz-Friesel is one of the most quoted experts on anti-Semitism in both international academic literature and the German media.

In her numerous publications she analyzes and exposes new manifestations of old anti-Semitic sentiments — disguised though they might be — employing much of the same Jew-hatred that has been shaping European discourse throughout the years, even when officially outlawed.

These analyses are evidence that recent anti-Israeli tropes demonizing the Jewish state are actually work-arounds of old anti-Semitic sentiments that have been with us for two millennia.

As the go-to scholar on anti-Semitism in Europe, in March 2016, Schwarz-Friesel delivered a keynote speech at the Berlin Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism in the Bundestag (the German federal parliament) which was attended by 100 lawmakers from 40 countries. In 2015 she wrote a much noted expertise that was part of the testimony against German journalist Jürgen Elsässer in a court case, in which the latter sued the publicist and former politician Jutta Ditfurth for calling him a “glowing anti-Semite.”

And now, to further amplify her research outside of Europe, an English translation of her much celebrated study titled “Inside the anti-Semitic Mind” (co-authored with former Brandeis University president, Jehuda Reinharz), will be available this upcoming November.

Currently, Schwarz-Friesel, is spending the last part of her sabbatical in Jerusalem, where she met with The Times of Israel on Hebrew University’s Mount Scopus Campus to share some insight into the truly disturbing results of her research.

Arabia
Iran warns Soddys against moves in gulf
[al-Manar] The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy in a statement on Wednesday warned Saudi Arabia against any move under the pretext of military drills which would endanger security and stir tension in the Persian Gulf.

“We declare to all the vessels present in Saudi Arabia’s stated wargames, including the Saudi navy’s vessels and others, that the IRGC Navy believes that principally, these drills are a clear instance of stirring tensions and weakening sustainable security in the Persian Gulf,” the statement said.

The comments came a week after the Saudi navy said it plans to stage drills in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz in the near future.

Stressing that passage of the military vessels participating in the wargames through Iran’s territorial waters will not be allowed at all, it warned the Saudis not to even sail through the international waters near the Iranian waters.

“The IRGC Navy and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army are fully prepared to maintain sustainable security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and will properly and rapidly confront any move, attempt and measure to disturb tranquility and security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman,” the statement added.

The Saudi media had reported late September that the country’s navy will hold exercises in the Persian Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz soon.

Exercise “Gulf Shield 1” will also take place in the Sea of Oman, with ships, planes, marines and other personnel taking part, said Royal Saudi Navy commander Abdullah Al Sultan.

Gulf Shield 1 is part of a series of exercises the fleet has carried out in the area, Sultan said in comments cited by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The maneuvers aim to “raise combat readiness” and improve skills for defending the country’s borders, protecting sea lanes “and to deter any aggression or potential terrorist operations”, the SPA report said.

Soddy press release on Gulf Naval Exercises
Dammam–The Saudi Royal Naval Forces started “Gulf Shield 1” maneuvers in the Arabian Gulf waters, Oman Sea, and the strategic Strait of Hurmuz, world’s most important oil route.

Formations of the Royal Saudi Navy Forces of Eastern Fleet are participating in these drills which include the King’s warships, speedboats, air navy aircraft, Marine Corps and special security naval units.

Commander of “Gulf Shield 1” Rear Admiral Majed al-Qahtani said that this is the biggest drill being conducted by the Eastern Fleet of the Saudi Royal Naval Forces.

Qahtani said that maneuvers include all naval operations including air, surface and subsurface warfare and electronic warfare as well as mine operations, deployment of Marines, special naval security units, and live ammunition shooting.

“The exercises include shooting of live ammunition as part of the efforts to improve combat readiness and protect the Kingdom’s waters and marine interests against any possible aggression,” Qahtani explained.

He pointed out that these exercises are an extension of the prepared plans and training programs to raise the combat readiness and professional performance for units of the naval forces in preparation for protecting Saudi Arabia’s marine interests against any possible aggression.

Saudi Royal Naval Forces will deploy from the Arab Gulf to Oman Sea through the Hurmuz Strait to test their military abilities and combat readiness in case of terrorist operations or any military attack from hostile foreign troops.

Saudi Military Analyst retired Col Omar al-Amiri said that such maneuvers need a wide area and open waters. He added that Gulf Shield confirms Saudi Arabia’s military ability to protect ships and secure water straits, in addition to participating in the Arab coalition operations in Yemen.

Kuwaiti Military Analyst Fahid al-Shalimi commented, saying that the kingdom has done the right thing by deploying its navy all the way to Hurmuz Strait.

Shalimi explained that the maneuvers reveal the ability of Saudi Naval Forces participating in protecting the most important energy strait.

He added that Hurmuz is an important international strait and protecting it is everyone’s responsibility.

Colombia to end cease-fire with FARC
[AA.TR] Colombians who favor a peace deal with the FARC have organized nationwide marches for later Wednesday to encourage the government to save the accords that negotiated an end to the 52-year conflict.

In Bojaya, Quibdo, where residents have suffered from constant attacks from guerrillas and right-wing paramilitary groups, local politicians are hoping the government will increase its efforts to salvage the deal.

"It is not fair that Colombia should be indifferent to the pain afflicted on so many of our own," Mayor Jeremias Moreno told Blu Radio on Wednesday.

Low voter turnout helped the "No" campaign win a plebiscite vote to reject the peace deal Sunday after pre-election polls showed the "Yes" camp with 60 percent support.

Many of the areas that have experienced the fighting first-hand voted to end the conflict while major cities, including the capital, Bogota, leaned toward rejecting the deal.

The result has left Colombia’s political future in limbo as no one really knows what will happen. Before the vote both sides were adamant that renegotiating the deal was not possible but President Juan Manuel Santos and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia
FARC or FARC-EP, is either a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary guerrilla organization or a drug cartel based in Colombia. It claims to represent the rural poor in a struggle against Colombia's wealthier classes, and opposes United States influence in Colombia, neo-imperialism, monopolization of natural resources by multinational corporations, and the usual raft of complaints. It funds itself principally through ransom kidnappings, taxation of the drug trade, extortion, shakedowns, and donations. It has lately begun calling itself Bolivarian and is greatly admired by Venezuela's President-for-Life Chavez, who seemingly fantasizes about living in the woods and kidnapping people himself. He provides FARC with safe areas along the border.
(FARC) have ordered their respective teams back to the negotiation table in Cuba where they were able to hammer out the deal after four years of talks.

For the first time in six years Santos met with former President Alvaro Uribe on Monday, in an attempt to rescue the peace agreement reached with the FARC.

Uribe, now a high-ranking politician, has been an outspoken critic of the peace agreement and helped lead the "No" camp to victory.

Uribe and his Democratic Center Party insist that a renegotiation of the deal’s terms is necessary because the FARC was given too much.

#2  Colombians who favor a peace deal with the FARC have organized nationwide marches for later Wednesday to encourage the government to save the accords that negotiated an end to the 52-year conflict.

#3  FARC is negotiating because they have been getting their asses kicked. It's been a long, savage war, but I suspect rewarding FARC's murderous ways with set-aside seats in the govt was likely a bridge too far.

China-Japan-Koreas
N.Korea 'Building Large Submarine'
North Korea seems to be building a new submarine capable of firing several submarine-launched ballistic missiles, the website 38 North said Friday.

Analysis of satellite imagery from the North's shipqyard in Sinpo taken on Sept. 24 seems to show a 10-m-diameter circular component on a large rail-mounted transfer table. This "may be intended as a construction-jig or as a component for the pressure hull of a new submarine," the website said.

The North's current 2,000-ton submarine, which has a 6.5 m diameter and is 67 m long, has only one torpedo tube. It can therefore carry only one missile and is vulnerable to accidents when it is fired.

Many experts predicted the North would begin building a bigger submarine to overcome that weakness. Back in August, the North succeeded in test-firing an SLBM.

Bill Clinton calls Obamacare 'the craziest thing in the world,' later tries to walk it back
On Tuesday, he tried to clean up his criticism.

"Look, the Affordable Health Care Act did a world of good, and the 50-something efforts to repeal it that the Republicans have staged were a terrible mistake," Clinton said at a rally in Athens, Ohio. "We, for the first time in our history, at least are providing insurance to more than 90% of our people."

"But there is a group of people -- mostly small business owners and employees -- who make just a little too much money to qualify for Medicaid expansion or for the tax incentives who can't get affordable health insurance premiums in a lot of places. And the reason is they're not in big pools," Clinton said. "So they have no bargaining power."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli warplanes strike Hamas sites in Gaza: Witnesses
[AA.TR] Israeli warplanes struck several positions in the blockaded Gazoo Strip on Wednesday, according to eyewitnesses.

Israeli army jets targeted the al-Qudisiya command post, which belongs to the Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, in the Gazoo Strip’s southern city of Khan Younis, eyewitnesses told Anadolu Agency.

The Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades is the armed wing of Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, which has governed the strip since 2007.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke anonymously due to fears for their safety, also said that Israeli warplanes had struck empty agricultural land east of Gazoo City.

The air raids came shortly after Israeli forces reportedly shelled a number of al-Qassam command posts in the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gazoo Strip.

The Israeli shelling was in ostensible retaliation for a rocket allegedly fired shortly before into southern Israel from inside the strip.

Early on Wednesday, the Israeli army said in a statement that a rocket fired from the besieged coastal enclave had went kaboom! in Israel’s southern city of Sderot.

-affiliated Ahfad al-Sahaba-Aknaf Bayt al-Maqdis terrorist group took responsibility for the rocket launch in statements released in both Arabic and Hebrew. The attack against Israel was apparently a response to the Strip’s Hamas rulers arresting several members of the Salafist organization, according to the group’s statement.

Though the Salafist group claimed the attack, Israel has said it holds Hamas responsible for any attacks emanating from Gazoo and routinely responds to such launches with strikes inside the Paleostinian territory.

"We can’t go after every little group in Gazoo with a couple of dozen members that goes out one night and fires a rocket," a senior officer in the IDF’s Southern Command told news hounds last month.

The Grand Turk
540 Turkish military removed over coup suspicions
[AA.TR] More than 500 military personnel are the latest to be removed from their posts over suspected links to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

In a tweet, the ministry said 540 naval and air force personnel, including 368 sergeants, had been temporarily suspended from duty. It did not indicate when the suspensions had been carried out.

The majority of those affected -- 427 -- were from the navy with the remainder coming from the air force, the ministry said on its official Twitter account.

Tens of thousands of public sector personnel, including civil servants, teachers, police, judges and prosecutors have been removed from their jobs in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt, which the government has said was carried out by FETO members.

To date, 3,699 military personnel have been dismissed or suspended.

U.S.-based Fetullah Gulen is accused of leading a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish government through the infiltration of state institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.

Attrition: Turkey Loses Its F-16 Surge Mojo
A question we have been asking since the first mass arrests a few years ago is now partially answered.
[StrategyPage] The July 2016 coup attempt in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
had many victims and one of the lesser known ones was the effectiveness of Turkish fighter fleet. While few F-16 pilots took part in the coup, the government lost (through dismissal or resignation) 274 combat pilots. This reduced the ratio of pilots per F-16 from 1.25 to .8. Suddenly the combat capabilities of the Turkish air force was greatly reduced, especially if the F-16s were called on to engage in large scale and intensive operations.

#3  A belated addition from yesterday's An Nahar, just to catch up on the statistics:

The announcement comes a day after Turkey suspended 12,801 police officers from duty -- 2,523 of them police chiefs.

Turkish officials say a suspension is a "precautionary measure" intended to stop suspects from interfering with the official investigation, adding that suspended personnel receive two thirds of their salary.

Africa Subsaharan
Anger As Mugabe's Son-in-Law Named COO of Air Zim
[All Africa] Zim-bob-we's bedraggled national airline has a new boss - and the fact that he is President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
's son-in-law has nothing to do with his appointment, apparently.

You could have fooled Zim-bob-weans.

Thirty-nine-year-old Simba Chikore was finally confirmed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Air Zim-bob-we by a report in the official Herald newspaper on Wednesday following a social media storm prompted by leaked news of his appointment.

State ZBC television on Tuesday carried a damning expose of the state of the affairs at the national carrier, showing ramshackle head offices littered with broken chairs and left-over food takeouts. But the report, screened on the main evening news bulletin, did not say that Chikore had been appointed as second in command (there was one shot of the back of someone's head that may or may not have been Bona Mugabe's husband).

It was too late. On Twitter anger was bubbling over.

'They are not ashamed anymore'
"It's official. Zim-bob-we is now Mugabwe," tweeted one user.

Trevor Ncube, publisher and critic of Mugabe's government said he'd been left "wordless" by the news. "They are not ashamed anymore. They own Zim-bob-we," he said in a tweet.

Chikore is reported to have worked as a pilot though Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
Airways and Emirates have both reportedly objected to claims he has worked for them.

Former finance minister Tendai Biti, who was fighting his own battles in court on Tuesday over a police ban on demonstrations said Chikore's appointment represented "a new low even by [ZANU-PF's] standards".

Tweeted Biti: "How does someone who has never run a tuck shop become COO of a major even though broken parastatal?"

Obert Gutu of the main Movement for Democratic Change said in a statement: "This just confirms that the Mugabe dynasty has virtually privatised the state."

Air Zim-bob-we's $300m debt has recently been taken over by the government, despite a worsening cash crisis.
