Why 'Conservative' voices may be a bit confusing
[Dr. Rich Swier] Mrs. Janna Little Ryan: A Liberal running the show from the family kitchen table?

The marriage between a man and a woman is a mutual political-spiritual co-joining of forces and ideologies including love. The man will support and encourage his wife and the wife her husband.

So to fully understand a man and or a woman in their decision making processes one must first understand that its a team effort working together for the good of the family unit. This includes all external decision making processes too. A solid marriage will have the man supporting the wife’s decision’s and vice versa.

So if you are scratching your head and rubbing your rabbit foot in an expression of confusion and lack of understanding of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and his blatant liberal agenda and decision making processes all you have to do is look into his family unit. Then you will learn that he supporting his wife’s ideology. As a man should and probably to remain in good graces in a supportive marriage.

Paul Ryan is married to Janna Little a liberal, left wing progressive, anti-Constitutional, big government George Soros supporter who voted for Barack Hussein Obama twice.

Heavy.com’s Stephanie Dube Dwilson in an October 2015 column titled "Janna Ryan, Paul’s Wife: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know" reported:

Janna comes from a Democratic family. Her cousin, Dan Boren, was a Democratic Representative for Oklahoma from 2005 to 2013. Dan’s father, David Boren, was the 21st governor of Oklahoma from 1975 to 1979. Dan’s grandfather, Lyle Boren, was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1937 to 1947. Janna’s grandfather, Reuel Little, helped found a third party called the American Party in Oklahoma in 1968. He ran for governor in 1970 but didn’t win, ABC News reported.

Janna herself has lobbied for liberal movements, such as marching in Washington in college for women’s rights, The New York Times reported. Janna rarely gives interviews, CNN reported, and doesn’t speak publicly about her political views.

Speaker Paul Ryan will not operate his family unit and make decisions that will cause friction and go against the will of his wife. This is how most marriages operate unless your wife is a Florida Gator fan and you are a FSU fan, then that would be another battle to work through. But the woman will always win. Even if you are right.

So if you want to understand why Speaker Ryan funded Obamacare and Planned Parent Hood, I suggest you ask his wife. She is wearing the pants in the family metaphorically speaking. In my humble opinion.

If you want to know why Paul Ryan is using taxpayer money to fund 100,000 un-vetted Syrians for a free taxpayer funded ride in cities across the United States ask his wife.... the bleeding heart liberal that she is. She is pro-open borders.

Iraq
Iraqi army drops leaflets over Mosul in preparation for offensive
[Reuters] The Iraqi army dropped tens of thousands of leaflets over Mosul before dawn on Sunday, warning residents that an offensive to recapture their city from Islamic State was in its final stages of preparation, according to a military statement in Baghdad.

The leaflets carried several messages, one of them assuring the population that advancing army units and air strikes "will not target civilians" and another telling them to avoid known locations of Islamic State militants.

The assault on Mosul, the last city still under control of the ultra-hardline Islamic State in Iraq, could begin this month, according to Iraqi government and military officials.

Islamic State fighters are dug in, expected to fight hard and have a history of forcing civilians to stay in harm's way during previous battles to defend territory.

Reflecting the authorities' concerns over a mass exodus that would complicate the offensive, the leaflets told residents "to stay at home and not to believe rumors spread by Daesh" to cause panic, referring to Islamic State by its Arabic acronym.

Emails show Bloomberg wants to be Clinton's secretary of state
Secretary of State Bloomberg? It’s not unthinkable.
Yes it is.
A confidant of Mike Bloomberg floated to a top Hillary Clinton adviser the idea of giving the former mayor the Cabinet post, according to a batch of e-mails released Saturday by WikiLeaks.

Clinton aide Neera Tanden asked Howard Wolfson -- a current Bloomberg consultant and former deputy mayor -- in a June 3, 2015, e-mail whether the former mayor was seriously considering a run for president.

She then asked what Bloomberg would want to do in a Clinton administration.

Tanden floated an ambassadorship to China but worried it might be "way too small" for the media magnate, her e-mail said.

Wolfson countered with a bigger title: secretary of state, but mused that it "ain’t gonna happen."

But the Clinton camp was dead serious about the exchange and Bloomberg’s ambitions. The entire e-mail chain was forwarded by Tanden to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

She added the note, "Something to know for down the road."

Wolfson backed off his earlier e-mails, telling The Post on Saturday that the only job in politics that interested Bloomberg was the presidency.

"I think Mike made it pretty clear that the job he wanted was the top job," Wolfson said.

Bloomberg thinks Henry Kissinger would make a good choice for secretary of state, Wolfson added.

The three-term mayor has lusted after the White House since 2006 and came closest to launching a bid in January when he asked his advisers to analyze the viability of an independent run.

But Bloomberg backed down two months later, saying in an announcement, "If I entered the race, I could not win."

Clinton reached out to Bloomberg shortly after his decision, according to a March 11, 2016, e-mail from Clinton aide Huma Abedin to Podesta, which WikiLeaks released Saturday.
AG has already been promised to Lynch on the tarmac in Phoenix. The thought of Lynch as AG and Bloomberg for State is frightening enough. More frightening would be Bloomberg for AG and head of DOJ. We could expect him to go after the 2nd and sugary drinks.

Were Jesus Christ running for POTUS, he would get crucified again by the Dems and Rinos. Prior to crucifixion they would accuse him of everything scurrilous under the sun.

Ulusomble the Rasher5411: Elect Trump; not perfect but good enough. He has actually accomplished something in this life other than venality, criminality and corruption. Also, not being mentioned much is the importance of SCOTUS appointees. Trump has mentioned this and has some decent potential appointees like Scalia. Trump's Butler Debunks Another Alleged Groper's Story:
[GP] Donald Trump’s former butler stepped forward to debunk another accuser’s story.

Anthony Senecal said the so-called incident with the People magazine hack "never happened."

The Palm Beach Post reported: Donald Trump’s former Mar-a-Lago Butler backed up the Republican nominee for president in denying the billionaire groped a reporter from People magazine.

"No, that never happened. Come on, that’s just bull crap," said Anthony "Tony" Senecal.

People magazine writer Natasha Stoynoff wrote an essay this week about how she was groped by Trump at Mar-a-Lago during an interview in the early 2000s. She is one of four women to make accusations against Trump of unwanted sexual advances.

The issue has become central to the presidential race since a 2005 hot-mic video surfaced of Trump bragging about using his celebrity to grope women. He has downplayed the incident as "locker-room talk."

Trump, at his rally in West Palm Beach on Thursday, said he was always in a public place with Stoynoff and denied he ever acted inappropriately.

#3  Donks aren't accustomed to a candidate fighting back.

WikiLeaks shows the Dems were worried about how to handle Slick Willy's numerous sexcapades if they should happen to show up during HRCs campaign--apparently, he was viewed as the perverse horney uncle in the attic, figuratively speaking. It's about time to release the Epstein Orgy Island tapes that Anonymous claims to have.

#4  Anyone remember how the Dems fabricated a similar charge against Presidential Candidate Herman Caine ?

And the charge fabricated that an airline stewardess allowed Trump to keep his hand up her dress for "15 minutes" is a bit much don't you think. If I felt a hand up my butt for one second the hand is going to be traced and then the face attached is going to need surgery. But 15 minutes ? THAT is allowing the hand to have a LOT of time.
One might question that sort of action being truthful in an honest woman.

I think its safe to doubt the statement is true, and if it isn't true then the Democrates have a LIE problem and Trump is right.
Besides do YOU trust the Donks to tell the truth? The Donks don't have a food record for that. LIES are their stock in trade. You can keep your Doctor and your Health Plan...period,..... ring any bells?

#9  Democrates have a LIE problem and Trump is right.

The problem is we are watching the "new normal" in Democrat dirty tricks. Until the republicans come up with an antidote, the dems will take the most dangerous opponent they face, pay a bunch of hard up women to tell lies about that opponent, and disrupt the campaign.

When you look at Herman Cain, 9 out of the 10 women accusing him made up their stories and dropped their accusations as soon as he dropped out of the race.

One woman had contact with Cain during an Xmas party when he introduced the woman to his wife (who was standing right next to him). Herman Cain put his hand on the woman's shoulder and she felt uncomfortable being touched.

It would not surprise me to find the Trump stories have a similar BS to truth ratio.

#13  The Big D must more carefully craft his statements. To point out something, but neglect to tell us why, serves him poorly.

Mr. Trump is a "Big Picture/Vision" kind of guy, used to delegating to his team the task of filling in the blanks. He can't do this when running for office.

His "Look at her." statement was ambiguous enough to foster outrage. I looked at her and saw a glib, scripted and disingenuous person. His statement, however, left it open that he may have meant she looked like the south end of a northbound bulldog.

Overestimating the intelligence and reasoning ability of the American electorate is not working. "The Dawnald" has to be clear, concise, complete and unleash the extraordinary salesperson he is.

The Opioid Epidemic - Is 'Big Pharma' killing Small-Town America ?
[WAPO] UNNATURAL CAUSES: Sick and Dying In Small-Town America. Since the turn of this century, death rates have risen for whites in midlife, particularly women. In this series, The Washington Post is exploring this trend and the forces driving it.

Cancer patients taking high doses of opioid painkillers are often afflicted by a new discomfort: constipation. Researcher Jonathan Moss thought he could help, but no drug company was interested in his ideas for relieving suffering among the dying.

So Moss and his colleagues pieced together small grants and, in 1997, received permission to test their treatment. But not on cancer patients. Federal regulators urged them to use a less frail -- and by then, rapidly expanding -- group: addicts caught in the throes of a nationwide opioid epidemic.

Suddenly, Moss said, investors were knocking at his door.

"As clinicians, we wanted to help palliative patients," said Moss, a professor and physician at University of Chicago Medicine. "The company that bought our work saw a broader market."

#1  The Washington Post is exploring this trend and the forces driving it.

Unlike our urban utopias, rural populations tend to be independent, self-sufficient, distrustful of government, and reluctant to move into more structured environments. The 'die off' is probably just coincidental.

#2  Maybe all according to plan. There is that recently released Ivey-Podesta email and Hillary has a very cozy relationship with Wall Street:

And as I’ve mentioned, we’ve all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking – and not just poll driven, demographically-inspired messaging. Ivey to Podesta

The left/Progressives/Dems believe it is important to have an uninformed, unaware and compliant population.

Most of what we see is "legally" over-prescribed meds...prescribed to addicts and small time sellers...that shop for doctors in several states. Strange, it seems that ye olde illegal dealers fund both the new opioid treatment centers...and flood the market with very cheap heroin. Get the illegal money on the front end with the heroin, and the government money on the back end with insurance payments for treatment. Hell of a deal ain't it?

White House Threatens War with Russia for Political Points
[Wash Times] Okay, now it is getting personal. As my son, and many other like him, prepare to enter a service academy next year, the Obama administration threatens war with Russia in an overt political move to enable Hillary’s election and stop Trump. The 'Russians are coming'! narrative is getting dangerous, but they don't care.

Young men and women will die in a war that Obama is stoking, but they don't care. The Left only cares about power, screw the fly-over country folks who will fight such a war.

Vice President Biden openly threatened Russia with cyber warfare in an incredible display of selfish incompetence. The Russians probably are hacking our systems, the same as the NSA does to them.

If you want to force consequences, you do this privately, with plausible deniability. You don't announce it to the world and give Vladimir Putin the exact excuse he wants to further flame domestic hatred of America and continue threatening actions globally.

The Democrats are frightened and shocked that their corruption is being put on display for the world to see. The American people are having their eyes opened to the filthy criminality of the Democratic Party and their corrupt media cheerleaders.

Incredibly, the answer to their lying being exposed is to threaten war with Russia, a nuclear power that could destroy America in thirty minutes. The Democrats do this at a time when our nuclear deterrent is aging and becoming obsolete. Nice move Hussein.

Yes, this is now personal. Obama, you are toying with my son's life. You've now made me, an American dad, and millions of others like me, very angry.

Home Front: Culture Wars
NAACP Set To Denounce Charter Schools, Although Blacks Love Them
[Daily Caller] The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is poised to call for a national moratorium on charter school openings, even though charter schools are very popular with black parents.

Polls have repeatedly shown that, among blacks, support for charter schools is substantially higher than opposition. In heavily-black cities like Washington, D.C., many parents have voted with their feet, transferring their students into charter schools rather than keep them in standard public schools that are often viewed as failing. Nationwide, roughly a quarter of charter school students are black, even though black children are just 15 percent of public school enrollment overall.

But there has been a backlash against charter schools among progressives, who view them as an effort to undermine traditional public schools by depriving them of students and resources. Charters are particularly unpopular with teachers unions (many charter schools, though not all, lack unions or follow different contracts), who have pushed hard to realign the Democratic Party against charters.

#10  ...the public school has less need for funding with less students...

Charter schools take the students with the most motivated parents, who pretty much correlate with the best students. Very few children are innately driven and disciplined enough to to do well in school without parental involvement.

So, the most motivated, best behaved students gone, the ones who cost the district least to educate. And the schools are left with the expensive to educate ones: those who cause trouble, who don't care, and who struggle with learning disabilities.

#14  And the schools are left with the expensive to educate ones: those who cause trouble, who don't care, and who struggle with learning disabilities.

This is a standard teacher's union talking point about why charter schools are the work of Satan. And it's true. Thing is, the public schools already have these students. And not surprisingly, the schools do a crappy job of educating them.

Public school is basically Henry Ford's assembly line applied to kids: you take a bunch of similar units, run them all thru the same process and out comes a useful product. The catch is your 'similar units' actually need to be similar, otherwise your outputs are all over the map. With engine blocks, you can just scrap your failures and start over. Here, we just push our bad units on to the next stage and eventual failure. Or affirmative action.

Worse, a teacher dealing with the outburst of the moment is not helping other students who might be there to learn. Think of it as one bad engine block stopping the line which means none of the other engine blocks are learning anything. (Mixed Metaphor Alert!).

#16  This is a standard teacher's union talking point about why charter schools are the work of Satan.

Yes, SteveS. The thing is, when you have a specific type of student to teach, you can target your techniques to what is most effective for that population. Not interested but able? Go for uniforms and small, visible achievements that are rewarded until they feel themselves an elite. Troublemakers? Visible security authorized to intervene physically with immediate punishment, uniforms, and privileges restored one by one as each entire class's behaviour meets simple and stated improvement goals, with the troublemakers who wrecked it each time named and shamed. Learning disabilities? Small classes that with lots of teachers aids for one-on-one work and behaviour control. Of course this takes good teachers who really known their stuff and are worth paying more, not union drones.

Or so it seems to me.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Lawyer: 'Sodomized' Guantanamo captive recovering after surgery. Prison: No comment
An alleged accomplice in the Sept. 11 terror attacks underwent reconstructive surgery for decade-old damage from his "sodomy" in CIA custody and was to be returned to his clandestine prison to recuperate, his attorney said Saturday.
Why do these guys get doctor's appointments right away when our veterans are stuck with the VA?
"All they said is there was minimal bleeding and he is recovering," attorney Walter Ruiz, a Navy Reserve commander, said Saturday morning.

His client, Mustafa al Hawsawi,
...his file in the Rantburg archives can be perused here...
48, was scheduled to begin surgery at 9 p.m. Friday and Ruiz said he was informed that it was over by 10:45 p.m.
And now his rectum is attached to his mouth as it should be.
Hawsawi, a Saudi, and four other men are awaiting a death-penalty trial for allegedly orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. He voluntarily missed Friday's hearing to rest up for the procedure.

An unclassified portion of the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation of the CIA's Black Site program showed allegations that Hawsawi was subjected to rectal exams with "excessive force" before his 2006 transfer to Guantanamo and that at one point he had a "medical emergency" that the agency considered having treated in a foreign hospital.
Nahhhh! Just messin' with yah, dude!
On Saturday, the military was mum on the outcome of Hawsawi's Guantanamo surgery. Ruiz said he received few other details, aside from the fact that, once the anesthesia wore off, the Saudi was to be returned to Camp 7, Guantanamo's secret lock-up for former CIA Black Site captives -- including Hawsawi and five others awaiting death-penalty trials.

The detention center spokesman, Navy Capt. John Filostrat, had no information to provide Saturday morning about the medical procedure carried out at the Navy base hospital, a 5- to 10-minute prison ambulance or prison van drive from the Detention Center Zone.
Hopefully they used a buckboard.
He said by email, it was prison policy "not to discuss detainee medical issues."
Sorry, we don't comment on a$$holes.
Nor would Filostrat say whether a colorectal specialist was brought to this remote base to do the surgery, and whether, if so, others among the up-to 6,000 base inhabitants were able to benefit from the surgeon's presence. The base is run by the Navy, which has sailors and their families, about 2,000 Jamaician and Filipino Pentagon contract workers as well as an approximate 2,000-strong military and civilian staff at the prison of 61 war-on-terror captives.

Detention Center commanders have for years briefed reporters that their captives get commensurate medical care to soldiers and sailors; and that the Navy routinely brings in specialists to carry out some procedures.

Hawsawi was captured in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, in March 2003 with the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, and was held by the CIA until his delivery to Guantanamo in September 2006. He is alleged to have helped the hijackers with money, Western clothing, travelers' checks and credit cards.

Hawsawi's lawyers had been litigating over conditions at the remote prison and, sought medical intervention to treat a rectal prolapse that has caused Hawsawi to bleed for more than a decade.
Too bad it couldn't have been a lifelong condition. Now he'll be in shape to go back out on the battlefield after 0bean pardons him.
He has sat gingerly on a pillow at the war court since his first appearance in 2008. But the reason was not publicly known until release of a portion of the so-called Senate Torture Report on the CIA program in December 2014, which described agents using quasi-medical techniques called "rectal rehydration" and "rectal re-feeding."
Heh. Re-feeding. Good one! I'll bet they didn't have many problems with hunger strikes after that.
"Mr. Hawsawi was tortured in the black sites. He was sodomized," Ruiz told reporters earlier in the week, advising them to "shy away from terms like rectal penetration or rectal rehydration because the reality is it was sodomy," he said. Since then, he said, he has had "to manually reinsert parts of his anal cavity" to defecate.
We could have made it so he didn't need to . . . .
"When he has a bowel movement, he has to reinsert parts of his anus back into his anal cavity," Ruiz said, which "causes him to bleed, causes him excruciating pain."
His victims certainly don't have to worry about this.
Families of eight people killed in the Sept. 11 terror attacks were on base at the time of the surgery, brought by the Pentagon to watch four days of pretrial hearings. One expressed disgust that a hearing was on "minutiae." Successive groups have told reporters they are eager to get on with the trial, and criticized the pretrial focus on torture.

Earlier in the week, Army Lt. Gen. Jennifer Williams, one of Hawsawi's attorneys, asked the trial judge, Army Col. James L. Pohl, to order the prosecution or CIA to give them the Saudi's complete medical records from across more than three years of spy agency custody.
"Here are before and after pics of his a$$hole."
Williams noted that CIA cables released under the Freedom of Information Act show that, in one instance in April 2003, Hawsawi was interrogated with "continuous sessions of water dousing, walling, attention grasps, facial holds, cramped confinement, and psychological pressures for 14 nonstop hours."
He got sleep breaks?
But defense teams preparing for trial have no medical records from that period, noting that Hawsawi also suffers cervical damage that may be linked to "walling" -- a CIA technique that rammed a captive's head into a wall to break him for interrogation.
I hope the wall is OK.
Water dousing is described in the Senate Report as similar to water-boarding, a near-drowning torture technique.

The judge at one point questioned whether such medical records exist.

"What we know from open-source material is that medical physicians at times were in place when these techniques were being done and when the torture was being committed," Hawsawi's Army lawyer replied.
"Don't forget to re-feed him his vitamins. Gotta keep him healthy, you know."

CO of LCS Crew Relieved Of Duty
Cmdr. Michael Wohnhaas, who commanded LCS Crew 106, was relieved “due to loss of confidence in his ability to effectively lead and carry out his assigned duties” on Oct. 13 by Commander of Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet (SURFPAC) Vice Adm. Tom Rowden.

The decision was made following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the July 11 incident where USS Freedom’s number 2 main propulsion diesel engine was damaged.

The engine was damaged when “a leak from the attached seawater pump mechanical seal… resulted in seawater entering the engine lube oil system,” SURFPAC told USNI News in August. The ship returned to its San Diego homeport two days later for unrelated maintenance work and followed contamination procedures, and then returned to sea to participate in the Rim of the Pacific 2016 exercise while using its gas turbines for power instead of the main propulsion diesel engine. Only on Aug. 3 did a a Southwest Regional Maintenance Center diesel engine inspector discover “significant damage to the engine caused by rust and seawater,” SURFPAC spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Rebecca Haggard told USNI News in August.

The Navy still has not made a final decision on how to repair Freedom following the engineering casualty, according to the Navy’s announcement today.

Wohnhaas has been temporarily re-assigned to Rowden’s staff, and deputy commodore of LCS Squadron One Capt. Matthew McGonigle will temporarily serve as Crew 106 commanding officer.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Police say they thwarted Temple Mount stabbing attack
[IsraelTimes] Nablus resident caught with knife in Old City, tells security forces he wanted to be ’a martyr’; Paleostinian said critically maimed by IDF during West Bank riot.

A 25-year-old Paleostinian was caught in Jerusalem’s Old City Saturday evening with a knife concealed in his clothes, and security forces said he had intended to carry out an attack in the Temple Mount area.

The man, a resident of Nablus, told police who questioned him that he wanted to be "a martyr," according to initial reports.

He was taken in for further questioning.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion...
15 Paleostinians were reportedly injured in festivities with Israeli security forces in the Jalazoun refugee camp northeast of the West Bank city of Ramallah Saturday evening.

Reports in Paleostinian media said one of the maimed protesters was at death's door after being shot in the head. The Paleostinian Ma’an news agency identified him as 16-year-old Fares Ziad Atallah.

Clashes broke out near the entrance to the camp during a march commemorating the anniversary of the death of a 13-year-old who was rubbed out by Israeli security forces in riots last year. According to Ma’an, Paleostinian youths lobbed bottles and Molotov cocktails at security forces who attempted to break up the violent demonstration.

There was no immediate comment from the IDF.

Earlier on Saturday, a Paleostinian man armed with a knife stabbed and lightly maimed a Border Police officer in a settlement north of Jerusalem.

The attack took place as police were opening an access road running along the security fence between Israel and the West Bank, close to Har Adar -- about 6 miles (10 km) from Jerusalem.

The policeman was given emergency treatment at the scene and then taken to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem, where he was treated for minor injuries. He was released from hospital several hours later.

The Israeli army said Saturday it would be closing off the West Bank and Gazoo Strip for 48 hours beginning at 11:59 p.m. Saturday for the upcoming Sukkot holiday. The army routinely seals off the West Bank on Jewish holidays, citing increased fears of attacks.

Militants’ presence again goes up along LoC but sans launch pads

Highly placed sources told the Excelsior that the new trend of murderous Moslems coming close to the LoC, moving there for recce and then returning to their base camps (located away from the LoC) in PoK, has been witnessed after the surgical strikes as earlier the murderous Moslems used to stay across LoC in launch pads and small tents erected for them by Pakistain army and bad boy commanders.

"There has been a major shift in the strategy of murderous Moslems camping across LoC for infiltration. Though there has been massive concentration of the murderous Moslems across LoC, their launch-pads and small tented colonies, where they used to take shelter conducting recce before attempting infiltration, have gone. Now, the murderous Moslems have taken shelter in the tents way behind the LoC.

Rump of GNC and Ghwell stage coup, declaring themselves back in power
[Libya Herald] In a dramatic turn of events, a handful of members of the former General National Council and the former Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
"prime minister" have staged an apparent coup in Tripoli, taking over the the GNC’s old premises next to Tripoli’s Rixos Hotel and declaring themselves in power again.

This evening Ghwell issued a statement from the GNC’s old premises next to Tripoli’s Rixos Hotel, declaring a state of emergency and what he called it an "historical initiative to rescue Libya".

The Rixos conference centre, which previously served as the GNC’s chamber, and the "Hospitality Palaces" across the road were taken over six months ago by the State Council headed by Abdulrahman Sewehli, but it pulled out a couple of days ago, citing security issues.

Today’s takeover followed a stand-off in the area since early morning between gunnies supporting the former GNC and those linked to Sewehli. It ended with the latter withdrawing. Disgruntled over unpaid salaries, their commitment was already weakened. It is believed they had already threatened to quit and were in contact with Ghwell supporters ‐ which was why the State Council decided to withdraw.

This evening, Ghwell, accompanied by Awad Abdul Saddeq, the GNC’s first deputy president, and the former head of GNC’s own "presidential guard, Ali Ramali, called on Abdullah al-Thinni, head of the interim government in Beida, to join him and together form a national unity government.

Ghwell also accused the internationally-backed Presidency Council (PC) of undermining national unity and of being the pawn of foreign forces wanting to divide the country.

He ordered all governmental organizations and ministries to stop dealing the PC and to work with him again instead. He also said that all those who had been appointed by the PC were dismissed.

There has been no reaction as yet to what is being seen as a coup, either by Sewehli, or by the Presidency Council which is meeting in Tunis. Also there has been no appearance so far of Nuri Abu Sahmin, the former head of the GNC.

There has been no comment either from Beida although it is known that a couple of weeks ago, proposals were put to the Thinni government that it should join hands with the former Ghwell administration and create a government of national unity to replace the PC.

It is thought that controversial grand mufti Sadek al-Ghariani was aware of approved Ghwell’s moves. His Tanasah TV station was the only one attending Ghwell’s presser this evening.

Turkey Police Detain 25 over Rocket Attack in Turkey's Antalya Region
[AnNahar] Turkish police on Saturday detained at least 25 suspects with alleged links to Kurdish militants a day after a rocket attack in the southern Mediterranean region of Antalya, state media reported, citing police sources.

The attack struck a roadside fishmonger in Antalya, one of the country's most popular tourism spots, but caused no casualties.

Police launched simultaneous raids across Turkey, including Istanbul, in a bid to find the suspects.

They detained at least 25 people believed to be affiliated with Kurdish militants, Anadolu news agency reported.

No group has claimed Friday's attack but Anadolu said the suspects had ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) designated as a terror organisation by Turkey and its Western allies.

Abu Sayyaf slays militiaman in Basilan
[Mindanao Examiner] Abu Sayyaf insurgents on Saturday ambushed a group of pro-government militiamen in Basilan province and killed one of them. Officials said the attack occurred in Sumisip town. The militias were traveling on a truck together with armed civilians when the rebels attacked them and triggering a brief gun battle.

This occurred just a day after security forces captured an Abu Sayyaf militant wanted in the brutal slaying of 15 coconut farmers in Basilan.

Police spokesman Rogelio Alabata said Marajol Taulani, alias Joel Gonzaga, was tracked down in the town of Imelda in Zamboanga Sibugay province. He said security forces seized five packets of crystal meth from Taulani, who is facing a series of criminal charges in Basilan.

The Legendary F-14 Tomcat: The Plane America and Iran Both Love
Let's just get this out of the way: Maverick. Iceman. Charlie. Are you done swooning yet? For many, the 1988 film Top Gun caused the F-14 to embody everything cool about fighter jets and the pilots that flew them.

And the Tomcat was cool--entering service in 1975, it was arguably the first operational fourth-generation jet fighter that successfully combined the characteristics of high speed, high maneuverability, and sophisticated avionics and armament that are now standard today.

However, there’s a profound irony in the Tomcat story. The Tomcat is one of the U.S. fighters that has seen the most sustained and intense air-to-air combat of its generation. And yet, American F-14s only shot down five hostile aircraft.

The Tomcat, however, chalked up its extraordinary combat record in the service of one of the United States' bitterest rivals, Iran.

#3  Dumbasses, the Tomcat wasn't a sexy fighter, it was designed to shoot down Soviet antiship missiles at long range. Seriously nobody knows this?

The Iranians use their Tomcats as AWACS due to the powerful radar. The one designed to track Soviet missiles and shoot them down.

#5  Panda,

The IDF used F-14s as AWACS also to good effect.

Too bad they decided to scrap it for a new shiny object.

Can you imagine an F-14 with fifth generation avionics and engines plus a modest dose of stealth?

It is still a viable airframe and even the crappy old A and B models can fly circles around an F-35 and shoot one down over the horizon with a AMRAAM missile...probably the best jet fighter ever built and now we have the flying turkey.

No one will ever call the F-35 anything like an eagle or a hawk or cat...its a dog...maybe instead of a turkey...the wild turkey being a very wiley critter...

I think the F-35 ought to be called the Poodle or Shitz Zu or something like that.

#7  Israeli had not F14 or Mohawk. They employed in 80's the Hawkeye, and now operate a Gulfstream with one of their radars.

Turkish-backed Syria fighters advancing on IS-held Dabiq: Erdogan
[AlAhram] Turkish-backed opposition fighters were advancing Saturday on the northern Syrian town of Dabiq with the aim of taking it from Islamic State (IS) militants, Turkey's president said.

"We are now advancing. Where? To Dabiq," President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in televised comments in the Black Sea province of Rize.

Turkey launched an unprecedented operation inside Syria on August 24, helping Syrian rebels to rid its frontier of IS militants and Syrian Kurdish militia.

In the operation's early weeks, Jarabulus and Al-Rai became the first two major settlements to be captured from the IS.

The Syrian rebels, supported by Turkish planes and tanks, are two and a half kilometres (1.5 miles) from Dabiq, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Two hours ago, the rebels started their attack to control Dabiq. The rebels came from Al-Rai," it said.

Dabiq holds symbolic importance for IS because of a Sunni prophecy that states it will be the site of an end-of-times battle between Christian forces and Muslims.

The town itself has negligible military value compared with the strategic IS-controlled cities of Raqa in Syria and Mosul in Iraq.

Earlier this week, IS tried to downplay the advancing rebel forces in its Al-Naba online pamphlet, saying the major battle for the town was yet to come.

Anti-IS fighters and their Turkish backers "have amassed in Aleppo, announcing Dabiq as their major goal," and thinking they could score "a great moral victory against the Islamic State."

But "the great epic of Dabiq will be preceded by great events and apocalyptic omens," the pamphlet, published Thursday, said.

"These hit-and-run battles in Dabiq and its outskirts -- the lesser Dabiq battle -- will end in the greater Dabiq epic," the group added.

Dabiq is also the name of IS's sleek English-language magazine. Every new edition opens with a quote by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the late leader of IS's precursor, the Islamic State of Iraq.

"The spark has been ignited in Iraq, and its flames will grow until they burn the Crusader armies in Dabiq," he once said.
Al Arabiya adds:
ISIS has stationed around 1,200 of its fighters there said the Observatory, a Britannia-based war monitor.

Woman held for ‘killing’ husband
He's 'dead' now.
[DAWN] A woman has been tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
on the charge of killing her husband with the help of an accomplice, police said on Friday.

On September 30, the body of a man was found dumped near a road at Haji Camp. The police said the victim was stoned to death and his face was beyond recognition. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
nothing was found on the body that could help the police identify the dear departed.

The police took fingerprints and approached Nadra for the identification of the victim.

Later, the victim was identified as Mohammad Aslam, an employee of the EME College, the police said, adding its Special Investigation Unit (SIU) traced the wife of the dear departed and arrested her.

The woman told the Sherlocks that she had murdered her husband with the help of her boyfriend by hitting his face and head with concrete blocks. Later, they dumped the body along the roadside. The police said the accomplice of the woman was yet to be arrested. The couple had a one-month-old baby.
Caved his head in with a concrete block? I think I used to be married to her.

Libyan forces advance in Sirte, 14 troops killed
Libyan pro-government forces have advanced into another area in their battle to liberate Sirte from ISIL in fighting that killed 14 of their troops, military officials and hospital sources said.

After six months of fighting, Libyan forces allied with the UN-backed government in Tripoli are close to clearing out the last remnants of the militant group from the former hometown of dead leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Heavy street-to-street fighting in the Ghiza Bahriya area involved tanks and armored vehicles with heavy machine guns, as well as airstrikes to retake houses occupied by ISIL, according to military officials and a Reuters reporter.

“There was an incursion Friday made by Bonyan Marsous forces into Ghiza Bahriya,” said Ahmad Hadia, one of the spokesmen for pro-government forces who are mainly from the city of Misrata. “A car bomb was hit by warplanes of our forces.”

Fourteen pro-government troops were killed and more than 20 wounded in clashes Friday, a spokesman of the Misrata Central hospital, Akram Gliwan, told Reuters.

Merkel calls for protected zones for Yazidis in northern Iraq
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
said on Saturday plans should be considered to give Yazidis in Iraq protected areas to retreat to in the north of the country.

"The plans are not finished yet, I’ll be honest with you, but they are on the agenda," Merkel told a conference of the youth wing of her conservatives, adding that the survival of the Yazidis was at stake.

United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Sherlocks said in June that ISIS was committing genocide against the Yazidis in Syria and Iraq to destroy the religious community of 400,000 people through killings, sexual slavery and other crimes.

Merkel said it was necessary to think about how the Yazidis driven out of their homes by ISIS could be given a "safe space" to which they could return once ISIS was defeated.

She said it was necessary to talk to the Yazidis and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in northern Iraq about that.

Yazidi community leaders have already asked to have international protection for a self-rule administration that they demand to have in their region in northern Iraq, as part of the Iraqi state.

The Yazidis are a religious sect whose beliefs combine elements of several ancient Middle Eastern religions. They are considered infidels by the hardline Sunni Islamist murderous Moslems.

Merkel also criticized the actions of the Russia-backed Syrian government in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, saying these were "very close to war crimes" and added that the International Criminal Court would have to determine this.

Rescue workers said on Friday that Syria’s military backed by Russian warplanes had killed more than 150 people in eastern Aleppo this week, in support of its offensive against the city.

Is Frau Merkel working up to another not-a-Marshall-Plan donation to those who might keep a problem from migrating to Germany's doorstep? Though to be fair, this is the one case where that would actually be effective.

Libya loses $1.2 billion claim against Goldman Sachs
[Libya Herald] The Libyan Investment Authority has not ruled out an appeal after a London judge dismissed its $1.2billion claim against Goldman Sachs over the total collapse of high-risk derivatives investments

In a 68,000 word judgement, Mrs Justice Rose ruled that the US investment bank had not misled the LIA about the risks involved and had not used undue influence in order to secure deals from which it reaped some $200 million in profits while the LIA lost everything.

The case involved nine trades between January and Aril 2008 in which Goldman Sachs structured two investments in the American bank Citigroup, three in Electricite de La Belle France as well as trades in Banco Santander, Allianz, ENI and UniCredit. At the time the global financial markets were going in to meltdown and bank shares were plunging. The court heard that the LIA believed that the markets would recover and that when the trades matured in 2011, prices would have rebounded and the Authority would reap a handsome profit. But instead the shares continued to fall and the positions that Goldman had bought for the LIA became worthless.

Pakistan ready for talks if India serious about Kashmir: PM Nawaz
[DAWN] Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
said Saturday Pakistain is ready to hold dialogue with India if New Delhi is serious about resolving the Kashmire issue.

Pakistain had offered holding of talks on outstanding issues several times but India did not reciprocate, he said while talking to news hounds in Baku before wrapping up a three-day visit to Azerbaijan.

He said Kashmire was main cause of unrest in the region and India must show seriousness for resolution of the issue and honour its commitment under United Nations

Security Council Resolutions.

Pakistain was committed to peaceful resolution of the Kashmire issue, he added.

The premier regretted Indian allegations that blamed Pakistain for the attack on an Indian army base camp in Uri.

He said India levelled allegations against Pakistain within six hours of the Uri incident, and reiterated that no infiltration took place across the Line of Control (LoC).

The prime minister said his government had introduced a new culture of political tolerance in the country as they respected mandate of every party.

"The PPP formed government in Sindh and we respected it. Similarly we have respected MQM as an opposition party. Even when unethical language was used in KPK we also respected the public mandate there," he added.

He vowed to take the country to path of progress and prosperity, despite "certain elements' plans to shut the country".

Turkish forces in Iraq with govt consent: US official
Turkish forces entered Iraq with Baghdad's consent, a senior State Department official said Thursday, Anadolu reported.

The Turkish military “began to train some of these forces on the ground at the invitation of the Iraqi government”, according to the official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. The official stressed that as long as Turkish forces continue to have the consent of Iraq's government their presence there is "fine".

“They need to be coordinated with the Iraqi government,” he said.

Turkey and Iraq have engaged in a war of words about the presence of Turkish troops in northern Iraq's Bashiqa. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi asked for the formation of a military base in Bashiqa. Erdogan told Abadi to "know his limits," reminding him that Turkey’s military presence in Iraq was due to a demand made by Baghdad.

The countries have summoned respective ambassadors for consultations.

The spat "is not constructive", the U.S. official said as anti-Daesh forces prepare to oust the group from its Iraqi capital, Mosul.

Turkey says its troops are going to be there to prevent any potential sectarian conflict in and around Mosul after the city is taken from Daesh. The operation could begin as soon as next week if preparations are completed.

Dozens Killed and Injured in Explosion at Major Shadady’s Funeral
An explosion targeting the funeral of a military commander took place in the Yemeni city of Marib, east of the capital Sanaa, yesterday. The explosion took place as people paid their respects to Major General Abdulrab Al-Shadady, a military commander in the national army. Six people were killed and twenty were wounded in the blast that occurred just one week after a similar explosion that targeted the funeral hall where people were paying their respects to the Al-Ruwaishan family in Sana’a took place.

Sources say that an explosive device was planted in a tent outside Major General Al-Shadady’s house in Marib. At least 6 people were killed and twenty injured. Among those killed in Friday’s blast were Major General Al-Shadady’s older brother Salem Al-Shadady and Mohammed Nasser Murshid Shurayf, who is the cousin of Sana’a’s governor General Abdul Qawiyy Shurayf.

The vice governor of Marib Abd Rabbo Miftah told Asharq Al-Awsat “The authorities have opened an investigation into the explosion. The funeral gathering that took place yesterday was held in a small tent in front of Al-Shadady’s house after the end of the official funeral”. He did not rule out the possibility that specific parties that he did not name “exploited weak-minded people” so that they would “plant two explosive devices inside the tent”.

US detects what it says is failed N. Korean missile launch
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US military says it’s detected what’s being described as a failed missile launch by North Korea.

A military statement says the launch occurred near the northwestern city of Kusong and that the missile is presumed to be a Musadan intermediate-range ballistic missile.

The military says launch was attempted at 11:33 p.m. EDT Friday (12:03 p.m. Saturday local time) and that the missile didn’t pose a threat to North America.

North Korea has claimed technical breakthroughs in its goal of developing a long-range nuclear missile capable of reaching the continental United States. South Korean defense officials have said the North doesn’t yet have such a weapon.

In August, Japanese and South Korean officials said a medium-range ballistic missile flew about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) and landed near Japan's territorial waters.

ISIS claims Baghdad bombing that killed dozens
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The ISIS hard boy group grabbed credit for a suicide kaboom that killed at least 27 people in a Shiite-majority area of Baghdad on Saturday.

ISIS said in an online statement that a bomber wearing an explosive vest carried out the attack in the Shaab area of the Iraqi capital, which also maimed at least 36 people, according to security and medical officials.

Police said a jacket wallah detonated an explosive vest inside a tent filled with people taking part in Shiite Ashura rituals, mourning the killing of Prophet Mohammad's grandson Hussein in the 7th century.

The tent was set up in a crowded market in the city's northern al-Shaab district.

Kurdish armed group claims it killed 8 Iranian security forces in clashes
[RUDAW.NET] The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) claimed Saturday that it killed eight local members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and maimed others in festivities in northwestern Iran.

Friday’s festivities happened when a team of PDKI fighters was making "a political and organizational patrol" in an area called Kota Rash in Saghez, Kurdistan province, the Kurdish rebel group said on its website.

It also said its guerrillas then left the area safely after the hour-long clash, without any casualties on its own side.

There was no immediate report of any such clash by the Iranian media.

The PDKI announced in March that it was giving up a two-decade ceasefire with the Iranian government and returning its guerrilla fighters to Iran, but vowed not to initiate hostilities unless attacked.

Since then, the PDKI has engaged in festivities against the Iranian security forces which have left dozens dead on both sides, with intense fighting in June and July.

With some 2,000 fighters based in remote bordering areas, mainly in the Kurdistan Region, the PDKI is historically considered the most formidable Kurdish military organization opposing the Iranian regime.

Mother, son among 4 killed by ambulance at DMCH gate
[Dhaka Tribune] Four people, including a six months pregnant woman, were killed after an ambulance ran them over at the entrance of Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday morning
Back when I was driving an ambulance we actually tried not to kill anybody.
The dead were Gulenur Begum, 27, her son Sakib, 7, six-months pregnant Amena Begum Surjo, 35, and an unidentified beggar in his sixties. The incident also left three people injured ‐ Ramzan Ali, 30, Bachchu Mia, 35, and Sajib, 5. Amena’s unborn child also died in the accident.

DMCH police outpost In-charge Bachchu Miah said: "The incident left two people [Gulenur’s son Sakib and the unidentified beggar] spot dead and later Gulenur succumbed to her injuries." "Amena succumbed to her injuries around 7pm," he added.

Amena’s husband Zakir Hossain, who is a truck driver, said his wife fell victim to the incident when she was returning to the hospital with some breakfast for the family. Zakir was undergoing treatment at DMCH at the time of the incident.

Zakir and Amena’s son Sajib is undergoing treatment at DMCH, along with the other two injured, as the impact of the accident broke his left leg.

Al Amin, a witness of the accident, said the ambulance had first hit a rickshaw at the gate when it attempted to enter the hospital premises. The initial accident had caused passers-by to come to a halt and that is when the ambulance instantaneously rammed the people standing in front of the gate. The driver might have panicked and pressed on the accelerator in fear, he added.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday Iraq could not deal alone with driving ISIS from the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Erdogan also defended the presence of Turkish forces in a nearby military camp as an insurance against attacks on The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
Turkey has been locked in a fierce row with Iraq’s central government over the presence of Turkish troops at the Bashiqa camp in northern Iraq, and over who should take part in the planned US-backed assault on Mosul.

Speaking at a ceremony in the Black Sea town of Rize, Erdogan said Turkey would not allow ISIS or any other organization to control Mosul. He also said Turkish-backed rebels in neighboring Syria were advancing on the ISIS-held village of Dabiq in the country’s northwest.

Around 60,000-strong force made of Iraqi and Kurdish peshmerga forces are now finalizing plans to attack ISIS’s last stronghold in Iraq’s Mosul, London-based The Guardian reported on Friday.

As the assault to liberate Mosul looms, ISIS claimed a suicide kaboom that targeted a Shiite Moslem gathering in Baghdad, killing at least 31 people and wounding more than 50 on Saturday.

Border wall won’t end terror, Somalia official says
A Somalia regional administrator has said the wall being built between Kenya and Somalia will not end terror attacks.
The Kenyans will be the judge of that...
Mr Hassan Abdi Ali, who is a district commissioner of Diff in Somalia told the Nation that the wall was unnecessary because terrorists might bring it down using heavy explosives.
Ah, but it will slow them down to do so, and then they will be caught. Or shot...
In an interview on the Kenyan side of Diff, some six kilometres from Kenya/Somalia border on Friday, Mr Abdi said the wall would separate the border communities and hinder the war on terror. It will also deny locals social privilege, he said.
A privilege is not a right, of course.
He said Kenya and Somalia should invest in a long lasting solution by working together towards bringing terrorism to an end.

“I urge the Kenyan government to work together with us in this fight because we are neighbours. We face the common enemy, “ he said.

Mr Ali said Kenya and Somalia should share important information and meet frequently to discuss security. He urged the border counties to help Somalis by sharing resources including water points and pasture, thus enhancing unity and minimise terrorism.
What do the Somalis give in return -- agree not to kill Kenyans?
He also urged the Kenyan government to allow free movement of Somalis so that they could get education.
Ibid...
He said their primary school system was up to Standard Four and if the Kenyan government wanted to bring terrorism to an end, it should partner with them in promoting education. Mr Ali claimed illiteracy was contributing to the rising cases of terrorism in Somalia.
That drives the conclusion that illiteracy is also rising. Have people forgotten how to read?
The administrator urged the Kenyan government to help Somalia promote education. He said Diff in Somalia experiences about six cases of terrorism monthly. He added that Middle Juba and Gedo region were hardest hit while few cases are reported in Lower Juba.

Mr Abdi was hopeful that in 10 years Somalia will be safe and a strong country with a strong economy.
What a lovely idea! It would require a dearth of Somalis, but clearly they're working on that.
He urged Somalis to promote peace and work with the security agencies from both countries to end terror.

Egypt police thwart attempt to transport arms to North Sinai: Interior ministry
[AlAhram] Egypt's interior ministry announced on Saturday that it has thwarted an attempt by "terrorist groups"
...Ansar Bayt al Maqdis/IS in the Sinai, Bedouin smugglers, Muslim Brotherhood remnants, Salafists, Hamas special forces training groups -- so many possibilities...
to transport 260 automatic rifles and shotguns to North Sinai from other governorates.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the ministry said Lions of Islam attempted to transport the arms from a spot on the Ismailia-Sharqiya border and from another location in Beni Suef governorate.

The statement added that a number of suspects have been incarcerated
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
and that police are pursuing others allegedly involved in the smuggling attempt.

The police operation came one day after 12 army personnel and 15 Lions of Islam were killed in a shootout when an gang assaulted a North Sinai security checkpoint, according to state officials.

Early on Saturday, Egypt’s Armed Forces launched Arclight airstrikes on a number of "terrorist hideouts" and arms depots in North Sinai, the army announced, adding that its offensive on holy warriors in North Sinai is still ongoing.

In a long interview with three state-owned newspapers published on Saturday, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said the security situation is improving and efforts are still ongoing.

"The war is long, holy warriors are developing themselves, and we are developing our operations," El-Sisi said.

Hundreds of security forces in North Sinai have been killed in attacks by Islamist Lions of Islam since the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.

Egyptian security forces say they have killed hundreds of Lions of Islam in North Sinai during the same period.

on Friday called for sustained efforts to defeat all hostile attempts to reverse the gains of Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
Recounting the successes of Zarb-e-Azb and the resultant stability being achieved to propel Pakistain into a new phase of development and prosperity, the army chief emphasised the need for effectively addressing the challenges to internal security.

He vowed to foil the attempts aimed at reversing the gains and said it was time to consolidate these gains and build upon what had already been achieved, an official told Dawn.

Expressing satisfaction over the operational preparedness of the troops, Gen Sharif reiterated the Pakistain Army’s resolve to defend the country’s geographical borders at all costs.

The COAS said this while chairing a corps commanders conference at the General Headquarters which held a comprehensive review of internal and external security situation with focus on the prevailing environment at the Line of Control (LoC) and operational preparedness of the army.

The conference was attended by all corps commanders and principal staff officers. Turkish Delegate Rips Prophet Mohammed Cartoon from Council of Europe Mural
[AnNahar] A Turkish official ripped a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed out of a mural at the Council of Europe headquarters in Strasbourg, a source at the rights body said Friday.

Dozens of people watched as the official, a member of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's parliamentary delegation to the Council, removed the image from the mural titled "The Road not Taken" on Wednesday, the source said.

The drawing of Mohammed wearing a bomb instead of a turban -- the original of which sparked outrage in the Moslem world when it was published in 2005 by a Danish newspaper -- had a banner across the prophet's face reading "censored."

Most Moslems consider portraying the prophet in images to be blasphemous.

The work on the theme of freedom of expression, titled "The Road not Taken", is made up of around 1,000 images.

The mural's Maltese creator Norbert Attard told the online version of The Malta Independent he had placed the "censored" banner across the cartoon "so that it would not offend anyone."

The incident occurred as Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was in Strasbourg to address the Council of Europe and open an exhibition on the attempted coup in his country in July.

The head of the Turkish delegation "offered his apologies" over the incident and reprimanded the delegate concerned, the source said, adding that the Council planned to invite the artist to Strasbourg.

The delegate has not been formally named.

Turkey Condemns Cancellation of Coup Panel in Sweden

[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has angrily reacted to the cancellation of a panel in Sweden about the failed July coup attempt seeking to oust the government from power, calling it a "blow" to the freedom of expression.

The panel "July 15th -- Behind the Scene of the Bloody Coup" had been planned to take place in Stockholm on Friday.

The office of the Turkish prime minister, in a statement late on Friday, condemned the cancellation and said it was the result of "interference by some Swedish parliamentarians."

"The cancellation of the panel planned to inform the international community on the treacherous coup attempt of July 15 against Turkey’s democracy and parliamentarian system, and the prevention of Turkish journalists from making a statement contradicts with Sweden’s tradition as the country with the world’s oldest piece of legislation on the freedom of media," the statement said.

The panel should have taken place in a small school of a Stockholm district. Local authorities claim they cancelled the event because of security concerns.

"We did a risk assessment taking into account who would attend and what could happen outside. I don't want my schools turned into a battlefield," Bo Andersson, a Stockholm city schools official, said.

The Swedish foreign ministry has not commented.

Furious with the cancellation of the planned event in Stockholm, Ankara said it expected "the European countries, which unfairly criticise Turkey for hindering the freedom of the press at every opportunity, to show the necessary reaction to these attacks on the freedom of media and expression by Sweden."

Peshmerga block Iraqi army convoy flying sectarian flags
[RUDAW.NET] Peshmerga forces prevented an Iraqi army convoy from passing through Makhmour to reach the frontlines near djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
on Friday because the convoy was flying sectarian flags.

A Peshmerga source told Rudaw that the Iraqi convoy, after first refusing to lower the sectarian flag, later accepted the Peshmerga’s request and removed the flag. The Peshmerga subsequently let the convoy pass.

"An Iraqi army convoy on Friday wanted, via the Makhmour frontline, to arrive near Mosul and position themselves there. But the Peshmerga did not let them pass because they were flying different sectarian flags," Shakhawan Abdullah, a Kurdish member of the Iraqi parliament, told Rudaw.

"The Peshmerga asked them to raise only the Iraqi flag. But the Iraqi forces did not accept that, so in return the Peshmerga did not let them pass," he added. "The Iraqi defense ministry has gotten in touch and is trying to coordinate."

A Peshmerga commander on the Makhmour frontline told Rudaw "The Iraqi forces did not implement some of the points and terms that were agreed on among the Peshmerga, Iraqi army, and coalition. Therefore they have been sent back from the area."

In discussions between the three forces participating in the Mosul offensive, the Peshmerga, the Iraqi army, and the global coalition, it has been decided that all forces participating in the Mosul offensive must come under Iraqi army control. Any force not under Baghdad’s control will not participate, officials have confirmed.

The three forces have established joint command centres, one is in Erbil, to coordinate the military operation and the role each force will play has been decided upon.

To facilitate the military offensive, the Kurdistan Regional Government and Presidency have granted permission for Iraqi forces to cross into Kurdish territory in order to enter Mosul from territory under Kurdish control, but "When the Iraqi army goes through Peshmerga forces, they will leave a line between Peshmerga forces and their bases in securing the Mosul area," Jabar Yawar, chief of staff spokesperson for the Peshmerga ministry, said in September.

But the proximity of Iraqi forces to Kurdish territories has caused some worries. An Iraqi army convoy that passed through the Khabat district west of Erbil on Wednesday had gun sex, upsetting local people.

A resident of Kalak in the Khabat district who witnessed the incident told Rudaw, "When the Iraqi army convoy was passing by the area, the Shabak people from the area came to the road to welcome the troops and express their delight. Iraqi army soldiers opened celebratory fire, which was quite a lot. This really made us worried."

The Shabak are a minority group living in northern Iraq.

Kansas ‘Crusaders’ militia group charged for terror plot to attack Muslims
More on this story from yesterday.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three members of a Kansas militia group are accused of plotting to bomb an apartment complex that’s home to Somali immigrants colonists in the western Kansas meatpacking town of Garden City, a thwarted attack prosecutors say was planned for the day after the November election.

A complaint unsealed Friday charges Curtis Wayne Allen, 49; Patrick Eugene Stein, 47; and Gavin Wayne Wright, 49, with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction. The men are members of a small militia group that calls itself "the Crusaders," and whose members espouse sovereign citizen, anti-government, anti-Moslem and anti-immigrant bad boy beliefs, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors said the men don’t yet have attorneys. Publicly listed phone numbers for the men couldn’t immediately be found. Their first court appearance is Monday.

’Hatred for Moslems’
The arrests were the culmination of an eight-month FBI investigation that took agents "deep into a hidden culture of hatred and violence," Acting US Attorney Tom Beall said.

The complaint alleges group members chose the target based on their hatred for Moslems, people of Somali descent and immigrants colonists - and out of a desire to inspire other militia groups and "wake people up."

The FBI began a domestic terrorism investigation of the group in February, and a confidential source attended its meetings in southwestern Kansas.

In a June meeting, Stein brought up the Orlando nightclub shooting and proposed carrying out a similar attack against Moslem refugees in Garden City, according to the complaint. They ultimately decided to target the apartment complex because of the number of Somalis who lived there and the fact that one of the apartments was used as a mosque. The complex houses about 120 Somali residents, Beall said.

The complaint said Stein discussed the explosives used in the 1995 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City by Timothy McVeigh.

The men, who were tossed in the clink
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in Liberal on Friday morning, performed surveillance of the apartment building and prepared a manifesto, Beall said.

Bloodbath
In a profanity-laced conference call that law enforcement monitored, Stein said the only way "this country’s ever going to get turned around is it will be a bloodbath," according to the complaint.

If convicted, the men could be sentenced to up to life in federal prison without parole.

Heidi Beirich, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project, called the details of the plot disturbing, saying it "should serve as a warning to those who traffic in the politics of fear and bigotry."

Garden City is home to a Tyson Foods beef slaughterhouse that has drawn a diverse immigrant population to the area.

Dr. John Birky, who’s helping to create a clinic and working with refugees on a language program, said some local residents fear the refugees, mistakenly associating them with bandidos Death Eaters in Somalia.

"People do express more of a general sentiment of, ’Why are we letting these refugees in here? Why are we? They’re taking our jobs, plus they’re Moslem,’" he said.

Garden City Mayor Chris Law said in a statement that he was shocked by the planned attack, and Birky called it "crazy."

Somali refugees
Birky said between 300 and 500 Somali refugees live in the area. The state Department for Children and Families said that of the 906 refugees who arrived in Kansas from October 2014 through January 2016, 68 were from Somalia, or 7.5 percent.

Birky said most are fleeing bandidos Death Eaters in Somalia and want to assimilate once they reach Kansas.

"They’re trying to make a better life for their families here," he said. "They want to pursue the American dream."

The case is the latest involving militia groups in the state. Earlier this year, a planned armed protest outside a Wichita mosque prompted the Islamic Society of Wichita to cancel an appearance by a speaker whom protesters believed supported terrorism.

The Justice Department’s National Security Division created a new position a year ago to help coordinate investigations into violent homegrown extremism.

Slovak police charge five with smuggling migrants to Germany, Italy

[Ynet] Five Slovaks are facing charges of smuggling at least 300 illegal migrants last year from Hungary to western Europe, mostly to Germany and Italy, Slovakian police said on Friday. The five men were arrested in a series of house raids by Slovak police on Tuesday morning and face up to 10 years in prison.

Police said they hid migrants from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan in customized cars from Slovak and Czech rental companies and charged each of them 500-1,000 euros ($550-$1,100).

Slovakia has not been a principal route for the hundreds of thousands of migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa who have sought to reach richer parts of the EU via the Balkans and Hungary over the past two years. Last year, 71 refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan were found dead in an abandoned truck on an Austrian highway near the Slovak and Hungarian borders.

Refugee who planned airport attack radicalised in Germany not Syria

[Ynet] The Syrian refugee suspected of planning to bomb a Berlin airport was radicalised only after arriving in Germany, Der Spiegel magazine reported on Friday, citing the suspect's brother who still lives in Syria.

Jaber Albakr committed suicide in prison in Leipzig on Wednesday after two fellow Syrians had handed him over to police.

Alaa Albakr, told Spiegel by telephone from Syria that a Muslim preacher in Berlin had radicalised his brother and told him to return to his homeland to fight, which he did, before heading back to Germany once again.

French couple under formal investigation as Telegram friends of Rachid Kassim

[Ynet] A man and his pregnant, teenage girlfriend suspected of plotting to kill in the name of the Islamic State were put under formal investigation on Friday following their arrest on Tuesday in the Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Sec, a judicial source told Reuters.

The two partners, aged 21 and 17, were in contact with Islamist State militant Rachid Kassim via the Telegram encrypted messaging system, the source said, confirming an earlier report by French newschannel iTele.

Kassim is suspected of having participated in several attacks or attempted attacks in France.

French police arrested at least six teenagers last month, all suspected of having plotted to kill in the name of ISIS, after having been spotted on social networks.

All were in contact via Telegram with Kassim, who is currently located in the Syrian-Iraqi region, according to police and judicial sources.

Merkel: 'national effort' to ensure rejected migrants leave

[Ynet] Chancellor Angela Merkel says Germany needs to make a "national effort" to ensure that migrants who are refused asylum leave the country.

Germany has seen a steep decline this year in the number of asylum-seekers arriving after 890,000 came last year. The government says some 213,000 newcomers arrived in this year's first nine months.

However, officials have long said that Germany needs to do more to ensure that rejected asylum-seekers leave. Some 60,000 left or were deported between January and September.

Merkel told a conference of her conservative bloc's youth wing in Paderborn on Saturday: "We need a national effort to return those who are rejected—that is undisputed and we are working on that at present with great vigor."

Syrian bombing suspect spoke to ISIS contact about attack plans

[Ynet] A Syrian refugee arrested on suspicion of planning a major attack in Berlin spoke to a member of Islamic State in Syria by telephone about a possible target a day before police discovered explosives in his apartment, a newspaper reported on Saturday.

Jaber Albakr was detained on Monday, two days after police discovered about 1.5 kg of explosives in his apartment. He was found dead in prison on Wednesday. Authorities said he had committed suicide.

Germany's Welt am Sonntag (WamS) cited investigation sources as saying U.S. intelligence had provided a tip-off on Albakr after tapping several phone calls between him and an Islamic State member in Syria. During the calls, 22-year-old Albakr spoke about his attack plans, the newspaper said.

Syrian bombing suspect visited Berlin airport, met contact - media

[Ynet] Jaber Albakr had met a contact in the city and visited the airport he wanted to bomb, German media reported.

Berliner Morgenpost newspaper and regional broadcaster rbb cited federal security sources saying Albakr spent a night in Berlin in the second half of September and met a contact there.

During that time, he visited one of the city's two airports, they added, without saying which one.

Arabia
Much of What You Think You Know About the Yemen War Is Wrong
[War is Boring] The truth is that Yemen’s government lacks popular support. Its military has largely sided with the insurgents. Iran probably plays very little role. And the terrorists in Yemen are, at best, a side show to the main fighting.

Saudi Arabia’s official position is that the coalition is supporting forces loyal to the internationally-recognized government of Pres. Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi as they battle insurgents from the Iranian-backed Houthi political movement. The Houthis’ position is that they are fighting back against U.S.-supported “Saudi-Zionist” aggression.

The Americans’ position is less clear. Washington insists that the U.S. military is merely providing intelligence and logistical support to its regional allies in their operations against … someone. Who exactly the enemy is from the American point of view is something the U.S. government seems uncertain of or unwilling to clearly state. The only target in Yemen that Washington has clearly defined is the so-called Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula terror group, or AQAP. However, AQAP is not the Saudi coalition’s primary target. Among the coalition members, only the United Arab Emirates routinely cites AQAP as its main enemy.

There’s little doubt that the Houthis — an armed religious-political movement of Yemeni Shia Zaidis — expresses strongly anti-American, anti-Jewish and anti-Saudi views. The group, which calls itself Ansar Allah — “Supporters of God” — operates from strongholds in northern Yemen. Its 20,000-strong militia force has fought a series of bitter campaigns against the central government in Sana’a since 2004. Since taking over the capital of Sana’a in September 2013, the Houthis’ rule has increasingly been characterized by violence against any sort of political opposition. Indeed, the methods of rule they apply in the parts of Yemen under their control are as bad as those of the most oppressive Middle East regimes.

There’s scant evidence of direct Iranian support for the Houthis. Authorities have intercepted one or two small ships loaded with small arms and ammunition heading for the Yemeni coast. The truth is, with Syria gobbling up money and men, Tehran cannot afford a major proxy war in Yemen.

Likewise, there are reasons to doubt Saudi Arabia’s claim that it’s defending Yemen’s legitimate government. Actually, Pres. Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi has next to no popular and political support in Yemen. His predecessor, Ali Abdullah Saleh, is much more popular than Hadi is within the Yemeni armed forces. Between September 2014 and March 2015, up to two-third of the Yemeni army either sided with the Houthis — because Saleh also did so — or were overrun by them. In total, more than 50 out of around 90 brigade-size formations of the Yemeni military aligned with the Houthis, only four or five with Hadi and three with southern separatists. AQAP overran four.

Moreover, it’s not the Houthis who are firing ballistic missiles including Scuds, Frogs, SS-21s and SA-2s at Saudi Arabia, at Saudi bases inside Yemen and — more recently — at the American destroyer USS Mason. Rather, the three brigades of the Yemeni army Missile Defense Command and several air-defense units are the ones lobbing the missiles.

But you won’t read that in many mainstream news reports. Most of what we in the West think we know about the war in Yemen bears little resemblance to what’s actually happening on the ground.

This where I'll disagree. Tehran can afford a major proxy war, where the Houthis and the Hadi faction (and to a lesser extent, Hesb'allah) provide the bodies and the Iranians (and again to a lesser extent, Hesb'allah) provide money, guidance, training, and select munitions.

The clash began between Ijaz Ahmed and Shahbaz, outside their home on the Service Road in Sadiqabad. Their relative Mazram Bibi and three others ‐ including Shakeel Ahmed, a pedestrian ‐ were maimed in the crossfire.

The Ameer Afzal group, the other party in the clash, followed the injured to BBH and started quarrelling with the relatives of the injured. Someone involved in the quarrel then pulled out a gun and opened fire. Raja Noman, a ward master on duty in the emergency ward, was injured.

Police reinforcements were later called in to control the situation.

According to witnesses, once the gunfire began in the emergency ward, several patient attendants ran outside the ward in panic.

DSP Raja Taifoor said all the individuals involved in the clash belonged to the same family. Mr Taifoor named Khaliq Mehmood as the individual who opened fire in the hospital.

He said the ISIS terrorist group is attempting to deploy foreign snuffies mainly citizens of Syria, Iraq, Lebannon, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Chechnya.

The First Vice President further added that the Taliban group should be initially defeated in the norther parts of the country in a bid to pave the way for the establishment of strong posts for the security forces to fight the ISIS loyalists.

The remarks by General Dostum come as the Afghan and US forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations in eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province from where the terror group initially launched its operatins.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) launched a major operation in Nangarhar to suppress the activities of ISIS loyalists in mid-July this year.

The US forces also provided support to the Afghan forces during the operation conducted in Kot, Achin and parts of the province where ISIS loyalists were conducting insurgency.

The US forces resumed operations against ISIS loyalists after the B.O. regime granted them broader role to combat the terror groups in Afghanistan.

#1  ...See now, here's what I'm thinkin':

The last thing Putin wants is a war. The old USSR might - at least theoretically - have been able to do things like this without regard to economics, but his Russia can't. A war might be really cool from his point of view, but realistically with Russia thoroughly integrated into the world economy, even a small, victorious and relatively limited war would be a disaster for the Russian economy, and his people have a tradition of being less than understanding towards failed leaders.

So - he's ex-KGB. A cop. A very sophisticated one, but a cop nevertheless. He's studied us, learned our MOs inside and out. And he knows that if he can get us to THINK he's going to war, we're going to cripple ourselves just in arguing over or not we are justified in doing so, and just how bad he actually is. (Remember the six-month 'rush to war' over Iraq...only several orders of magnitude worse, because for the first time in decades we're dealing with an enemy who can really lay some hurt on us)

The 'Better Red than Dead' crowd will be out in force, and you will see mobs actually trying to swarm bomber and missile bases. The media will be nothing but 'all megadeaths all the time', and the Usual Celebrity Suspects will be all over the place - even a Trump Administration wouldn't be able to stand up against a Peace Offensive like we'll see. A Clinton Administration - run by people who redefined the word 'triangulation' - will let the balloon inflate for a bit, then make it clear we're not going to do anything 'precipitous'. The bottom line is that we'll end up doing more damage to ourselves politically and economically than he can ever do militarily. At that point, as long as he can present his demands in a reasonable fashion, we'll gladly give him anything he wants AND keep his economy going.

And when it's all said and done, the Unified Ruling Party(TM) will explain to us how things are the new normal and the world changes and how we have to get used to it.

Until the next time.

That's the problem with NIMBY. Those key bases are out of the concentrated 'Blue Zones'. That amount of protest can't be done quietly enough to hide intent in order to move to an appropriate location. Then there is the problem of feeding and billeting in literally a 'hostile' region, as such facilities are usually surrounded by a population that is far closer to 'Red Zone' than any protestor is used to. Take the law in your own hands, you might find others take the same approach.

Arabia
OPINION: The first US-Houthi confrontation
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US aircraft have finally raided the sites and radars of Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias on the Red Sea coast even though the Houthis had bombed US military ships twice before. International tolerance toward Houthi militias, despite the huge number of crimes committed against Yemenis for two years, has frightened locals of this turban religious terrorist group. The Houthis took advantage of this leniency to assassinate political opponents and threaten maritime navigation routes many times. They even bombed an Emirati aid shipment last week.

Do Houthi militias differ from al-Qaeda and ISIS?

The difference is that the Houthis had never attacked American or Western targets before, and this is why they were not included on terror lists. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
the Houthi militia actually has the same characteristics as al-Qaeda, including the use of religion to target civilians and wage wars. Houthis’ political slogans do not differ from al-Qaeda’s. They both call for fighting the "infidel West" and kill those who are not of their religion. They imposed their religious rules on the Zaidis and Shafi’i Sunnis. The turban organization has filled the cities’ streets with images of religious leaders, along with slogans calling for a war to be waged against the "infidel West" and the Yemenis who are at odds with it.

More recently, Houthis dared to wage battles against neutral parties; in Sanaa, they kidnapped an American teacher who works in an English teaching Institute and has lived in the Yemeni capital for many years. His fate remains unknown. On Sunday, Houthis bombed the US warship USS Mason, the Americans thought that it was a random bombing by the Houthis but the group did it again the following Wednesday and bombed the same ship, despite American warnings that followed the first bombing. The US Air Force raided the Houthis’ radars in Taiz and Hodeida. It was not a harmful sanction but rather a clear message in order to stop the attacks on the US Navy. These limited raids send a specific message to refrain from attacking the US Navy and do not necessarily suggest that the Americans are interested in the safety of navigation routes in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait in general. Battles are ongoing between legitimate government forces and the Houthis to seize control over this strait.

Over the past decade, international navigation may have suffered on the other side of the Red Sea, when Somali turban pirates? spread terror. Thorough international coordination and the formation of multinational naval forces controlled the situation. History will repeat itself on the Yemeni side of the Red Sea if the world does not support the peaceful solution based on the same international resolutions which were disrupted when Houthis and former the Yemeni president orchestrated a coup and shared governance. The safety of maritime routes and the security in the region and the world require an international stance against harassment and militias, regardless of their religion, as long as they are carrying weapons.

The Houthi group, also known as "Ansar Allah," was founded by the Iranians and trained by Lebanese Hezbollah. It is still receiving military, logistical and media support from there. It is similar to many gangs founded by Iran in the region, whether from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Leb; they all have one mission: serve Iranian politics through armed force. Dealing with religious groups should be the same whether they are Shiite or Sunni. al-Qaeda, ISIS or Ansar Allah must all be classified as terrorist groups, rather than limiting terrorism to al-Qaeda because it raises its weapons against the West.

Would-Be Suicide Bombers Arrested in Beirut, FlyCam Equipped with Explosives Confiscated
[AnNahar] The General Security and the Army Intelligence were able to arrest two would-be jacket wallahs who had plans to blow themselves up at two religious locations in the southern suburbs of Beirut, As Safir daily reported on Friday.

One of the bombers was jugged

by the General Security on October 5 at the Cola area in Beirut. During investigation, he confessed that he had been preparing to blow himself up within two days (Friday, October 7) inside one of the biggest mosques in Dahiyeh during Friday prayers, according to the daily.

The Army Intelligence arrested the second would-be suicide bomber.

It was clear to the Sherlocks that the handler of the two would-be suicide bombers was the same person -- an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. "emir" in Syria's Raqa city -- and that he dispatched them at the same interval.

However the would-be bombers had no contact with each other, although they received the orders from the same handler, added As Safir.

At the same time, it was revealed that two groups provided the culprits with logistical support. They secured their transportation means and residence in Leb until the date of bombing.

Moreover, on Thursday at dawn, the General Security arrested in the area of Bhamdoun a group of eight people inside a warehouse that contained explosives and ammunition.

The warehouse belonged to a man who swore allegiance to the al-Nusra

Front and who acted like a weapons trader.

He opted for selling ammunition and weapons to relatively every terrorist organization, said As Safir. The patrol found explosives and a FlyCam capable of carrying a small bomb.

The warehouse owner confessed during interrogation that he was selling explosives to several terrorist organizations, including the IS.

"If only you came yesterday, you would have found six FlyCams equipped with kabooms," five of which were sold to al-Nusra, he said.

Anti-ISIS group in Mosul reportedly killed leader, militants

(ISIS) group inside djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
city has reportedly staged an attack on the murderous Moslem group, killing a leader and some murderous Moslems, one source told Rudaw. Another said that ISIS is fabricating such uprisings in order to flesh out dissenters.

"The Kataeb al-Awliyaa of Mosul, using medium weapons has attacked Rifaq neighborhood on Saturday and they killed Abu Dawd Misri, who was an ISIS security official east of Mosul," a source told Rudaw.

"Misri had tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
many youth in Mosul over recent days," the source added.

According to the source, the Kataeb al-Awliyaa attacked two ISIS checkpoints ‐ the Shalalat checkpoint in the Qahira area inside Mosul where they killed three murderous Moslems, and the Bashik checkpoint in the Tahrir area east of Mosul.

A second source inside the city, however, said ISIS has created fake uprisings in order to expose residents who oppose the group.

Rooters reported this week that ISIS had foiled a planned revolt in the city and executed 58 alleged plotters.

ISIS is intensifying its presence and surveillance on the streets in order to show their strength and deter other revolt attempts. They have closed main bridges and roads in order to exert control over the population and limit movement around the city of both plotters and those wanting to flee in advance of the military offensive.

ISIS has deployed its murderous Moslems on the streets and told residents they are not planning to withdraw but strengthen their positions through tunneling, putting up concrete barriers, constructing fortifications out of mounds of earth, and planting improvised bombs (IEDs).

A citizen from Mosul, speaking to Rudaw on condition of anonymity, said that "ISIS two days ago started booby-trapping the streets in the left side of Mosul. And 3,500 of its murderous Moslems are doing intensive surveillance inside Mosul."

Information Rudaw obtained from one source indicates that ISIS has reinforced its forces in the city, bringing in 2,250 fighters from Diyala, Anbar and Tikrit. They have also stationed imported muscle in locations bordering the city: Hamdaniya, Tel Kaif, Bartella, and Tel Afar.

Leaders are evacuating their families. The Mosul Eye, a blogger in the city, told Rudaw that more than 32 leaders left with their families but said they would return themselves.

He added that the murderous Moslems appear to have given up on defending the city. "They don’t seem to be so afraid," he said. "It seems that they don’t expect a battle in Mosul."

He believes that they will abandon Mosul for Raqqa but will seek to destroy the city and kill as many as they can. "The only way to protect the people is to get the forces inside Mosul as soon as possible. They can take over the city. ISIS is ready to lose the battle."

Iraqi military commanders are asking the people of Mosul to stay at home and do not leave when the operation is launched. People are concerned about the availability of food and basic needs, fearing that prices of goods in the markets may double during the military offensive.

According to information coming from Mosul, ISIS appointed new official, Muhseen Abdulkarim Oghlu, as assistant to the Wali of Mosul, the so-called caliphate’s governor.

Africa Horn
UNHCR: 26,000 refugees ready to return to Somalia
The UN refugee agency said a total of 26,819 Somali refugees have in principle confirmed their intention to voluntarily return home and are waiting to be facilitated to return to the Horn of Africa nation. The UNHCR said in its bi-monthly report released on Saturday that some 2,525 returnees were supported to voluntarily return to Somalia by flight and road convoys from Sept. 16-30.

“In total as of Sept. 30, 32,949 Somali refugees had returned home since December 8, 2014, when UNHCR started supporting voluntary return of Somali refugees in Kenya, out of which 26,848 were supported in 2016 alone,” UNHCR said.

Kenya in collaboration with the UN refugee agency are working on a program that will ensure a smooth and voluntary repatriation of over 300,000 refugees living in five sites at the Dadaad refugee camp after Nairobi announced the closure of the camp.

Kenya, which hosted protracted negotiations that culminated in the formation of the transitional federal government of Somalia, says the refugee situation continues to pose security threats to Nairobi and the region apart from the humanitarian crisis.

According to the UNHCR, road convoys were suspended from Aug. 30, after the Jubbaland administration notified UNHCR Somalia about their decision not to receive any more returnees until integration processes inside Somalia are addressed.

“The road convoys still remain suspended and refugees are not currently travailing by road any more. Similarly, the flight departures to Mogadishu has been suspended on Sept. 25 because of security related issues in Mogadishu, but flight departures are expected to resume once the security context improves,” UNHCR said.

The statement comes after international medical charity, Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said a vast majority of refugees do not want to go back to Somalia and urged Kenya thus to consider alternatives to closing down the Dadaab camp.

Many refugees surveyed cited by the charity list their main concerns as fear of forced recruitment into armed groups and the threat of sexual violence.

Other concerns are the absence of health care in Somalia, the medical aid group said.

MSF said its findings raise doubts about the voluntary nature of the repatriation programme being carried out by the Kenyan government and the UNHCR.

“It is unacceptable that, without any other solution being offered, thousands are essentially being pushed back into conflict and acute crisis — the very conditions they fled,” said Liesbeth Aelbrecht, the head of the MSF mission in Kenya.

According to the MSF report, 86 percent of surveyed refugees in Dagahaley do not want to go back to Somalia. Fears around insecurity were acute with nearly all — males and females — stating that the risk of sexual violence is high. MSF is therefore questioning the “voluntary” nature of the returns that the UNHCR is helping facilitate.

“The fears that the refugees tell us about are real. It is crucial that any return is voluntary, and refugees must have all necessary information about the services and conditions which will meet them in Somalia,” said Liesbeth.

Britain
First Scottish Muslim woman MP: Islam is the antidote to ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] "Da’esh (ISIS) doesn’t represent Islam indeed and, in fact, I feel that Islam is the anti-dote to ISIS," Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, the first Scottish Moslem woman Member of Parliament in Westminster, has said.

In an exclusive interview to Al Arabiya English, Tasmina said that we need to make sure that women across the world have an opportunity to work together and try and find a solution to combat whatever is driving people to these actions that are certainly not representative of Islam.

"One of my plans is to introduce an annual international Moslem women parliamentarian summit. The idea is to bring Moslem women parliamentarians from all over the world to talk about how we can share our good policies in action and what we can do to alleviate poverty and have a different narrative about Islam and about what Moslem women stand for," she said.

"I think space needs to be created for women across the world, and particularly women in the Moslem world, because we have a sense of validity when we talk about our religion," Tasmina said.

Burkini ban and Donald Trump
On the issue of what women should wear, she said that it should entirely and always be a matter for women [to decide]. "Women have had to fight for every single right that they now have and we will continue to fight it," she said.

Tasmina said that she has faith in the American people and hopes that they will see through some of "the horrendous rhetoric, not the least in terms of what has been said about Moslems, wouldn’t be welcome in America".

"I was the first in the House of Commons to ask the then Home Secretary Theresa May, who is now Prime Minister, to treat such rhetoric in the same manner we should treat other hate preachers. So let us see what happens," she said in the interview.

She called the growing trend of right-wing politics in Europe a challenge and narrated the circumstances that led to Brexit. "Unfortunately for the people of UK, the European referendum was fought in the backdrop of anti-immigrant sentiment," she said.

According to her, as a result, the country now has a prime minister who is leading a party now known almost universally as "toxic Tories" pursuing a right-wing agenda".

"This is not good for United Kingdom, and for our standing in the world. We would challenge all of this rhetoric because we want to be part of a world that welcomes each other," Tasmina said.

Yemen army’s wrong intel led to funeral strike
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The coalition battling Yemeni rebels said Saturday that one of its warplanes had "wrongly targeted" a funeral in the capital Sanaa after receiving false information from a party within the Yemeni army

The coalition added that the directing operations center of the Yemeni army approved the strike without the coalition’s authorization and announced disciplinary proceedings.

"Because of non-compliance with coalition rules of engagement and procedures, and the issuing of incorrect information, a coalition aircraft wrongly targeted the location, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries," an inquiry team found.

"Appropriate action... must be taken against those who caused the incident, and... compensation must be offered to the families of the victims."

The coalition’s statement said also that "other parties" exploited the incident and "raised its toll."

Coalition accepts probe results
The coalition also said that it accepts results by the Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) on the Great Hall incident in Sanaa after examining the investigation.

"The coalition affirms that it accepts the results of the investigation, and has begun to implement the JIAT’s recommendations," the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the coalition as saying.

The coalition also expressed "its regret for the unintentional incident and the ensuing pain for victims’ families."

It added: "The incident is not in line with the coalition’s objectives, namely protecting civilians and restoring safety and stability to Yemen."

Below is the official statement by JIAT on the Great Hall incident in Sanaa:

The JIAT examined all related documents, and assessed evidence, including the rules of engagement (ROEs) and the testimonies of concerned personnel and those involved in the incident, and has concluded that a party affiliated to the Yemeni Presidency of the General Chief of Staff wrongly passed information that there was a gathering of armed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. leaders in a known location in Sanaa, and insisted that the location be targeted immediately as a legitimate military target.

JIAT has found that because of non-compliance with Coalition rules of engagement (ROEs) and procedures, and the issuing of incorrect information a Coalition aircraft wrongly targeted the location, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.
