Bay of Pigs Veterans Assn Endorses Donald Trump
[TownHall] "Miami's veterans of the Bay of Pigs invasion voted late Wednesday (Oct. 12) to endorse Donald Trump for president, the first endorsement in the organization's 55-year history."

Fifty years before Benghazi we had the Bay of Pigs:

The pleas came from Commander Jose San Roman as Soviet tanks, Soviet artillery and tens of thousands of Soviet led troops pounded the 1400 Cuban freedom-fighters he commanded on a bloody and heroic beachhead now known as the Bay of Pigs.

The same heartsick and enraged U.S. Navy men listening to these pleas had escorted these freedom‐fighters to that beachhead. Their ships--including the aircraft carrier Essex groaning under a heavy load of deadly Skyhawk jets‐ sat just offshore.

"If things get rough," radioed back the heartsick CIA man who helped train and had befriended them, "we can come in and evacuate you."

"We will NOT be evacuated!" San Roman roared back to his friend Grayston Lynch, a multi-decorated WWII and Korea war hero. "We came here to fight! We don’t want evacuation! We want more ammo! We want the planes that were promised! This ends here!"

Camelot’s criminal idiocy as the U.S.-trained freedom-fighters battle savagely against outrageous odds finally brought Adm. Arleigh Burke of the Joints Chief of Staff, who was receiving the battlefield pleas, to the brink of mutiny. Years earlier, Adm. Burke sailed thousands of miles to smash his nation’s enemies at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Now he was Chief of Naval Operations and stood aghast as new enemies were being given a sanctuary 90 miles away!

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
CNN article: Could World War III start here?
[CNN] There are few more vulnerable spots along NATO's entire perimeter than the Suwalki Gap, an about 60-mile stretch of territory and a critical rail line separating Poland from Lithuania, linking Russian Kaliningrad with Putin's staunch ally Belarus. If Vladimir Putin takes comfort in NATO's waffling, or doubts US willingness to spring to the defense of the Baltic republics, it's here any shootout between NATO and Russia could start. Or even World War III.

Vice President Biden paid an urgent trip to neighboring Latvia in August to meet the presidents of all three Baltic states -- Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania -- to assure them that "we have pledged our sacred honor ... to the NATO treaty and Article 5," which says an attack on one NATO ally is an attack on all. And all three Baltics are firm members and believers in NATO. But Biden continued: "You occasionally hear something from a presidential candidate. It's nothing that should be taken seriously, because I don't think he understands what Article 5 is."

Classy Jay Z repeatedly drops n-word, f-bomb during concert for HRC
[Bus Insider UK] Jay Z was entirely uncensored Friday night at a concert for Hillary Clinton.

The rapper repeatedly used the n-word and dropped the f-bomb as he performed "F--WithMeYouKnowIGotIt" and his hit "Dirt off Your Shoulder" song at a Cleveland rally.

"You're tuned into the motherf----- greatest," a voice said as Jay Z appeared onstage.

"If you feelin’ like a pimp n----, go and brush your shoulders off," Jay Z rapped. "Ladies is pimps too, go and brush your shoulders off. N----- is crazy baby, don’t forget that boy told you. Get that dirt off your shoulders."

Jay Z also performed the song "Jigga My N----," in which he boasted that he was "Jay-Z, motherf-------!"

Why Is the Clinton Foundation Investigation Being Run from Brooklyn?
BLUF: [National Review] We now know that the bureau plugged along despite fierce headwinds from Washington and Brooklyn, where Loretta Lynch’s favorite prosecutors were vocal naysayers. There can be only one explanation for the agents’ defiant perseverance in the teeth of opposition from the attorney general of the United States, the rest of the top brass at Main Justice, and the United States attorney for the EDNY who was directly in charge of overseeing the investigative efforts.

The agents had to know that the director of the FBI had their back.

HRC Deleted Email Showing She Forwarded Classified Info To Her Daughter
[Daily Caller] Hillary Clinton deleted a 2009 email in which she forwarded classified information to her daughter, Chelsea.

The email was released on Friday by the State Department. It is one of thousands of documents recovered by the FBI from Clinton’s private email server.

The Dec. 20, 2009 email chain, entitled "Update," started with a message from Michael Froman, who served as a deputy assistant to President Obama and deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs.

The email, which is redacted because it contains information classified as "Confidential," was sent to Jake Sullivan, Clinton’s foreign policy adivser at the State Department, and several Obama aides. Sullivan sent it to Hillary Clinton who then forwarded it to Chelsea, who emailed under the pseudonym "Diane Reynolds."

Kurd Plunged His Bulletproof BMW Into ISIS Snipers to Save 70 Lives
[PJ] After the ground offensive to retake Mosul from ISIS was launched in mid-October, Islamic State terrorists attacked Kirkuk, Iraq.

Nearly 90 civilians and Peshmerga were killed by ISIS in the surprise counterattack Oct. 21, which included suicide bombers and gunmen targeting police stations and a city power plant.

But the death toll could have been higher if one Kurd and his armored BMW hadn't stepped in.

Ako Rahman, a member of the Peshmerga’s 116th Brigade in Tuz, volunteered to plunge into the fighting to save more than 70 people who had been wounded by ISIS, putting them in his own bulletproof car and rushing them to the hospital.

"My aim was to prevent any captives, wounded or martyrs falling into ISIS’ hands," he told Rudaw news. "What really made me sad... many of the wounded, we reached them too late and they bled to death."

By the end of the rescue op, Rahman said his car had 50 to 60 bullet holes, many on the front end and windshield. He bought the Mad Max-mobile for $9,000 just four months ago; BMW has offered to give him a brand-new car and retire the heroic one to their company museum, but instead he's giving the car to a local museum so that the symbol of Kurdish bravery will be on display for Kurds.

"The ISIS bullets were coming in my direction. I saw death with my own eyes. Yet, I did not stop what I was doing," Rahman said. "I could not leave the wounded in limbo. The only thing I cared about was getting the wounded into my car and driving them to the hospital."

Rahman told BasNews that "after we arrived at the scene, we saw many wounded individuals among the security forces and civilians and no one was able to approach them due to the IS snipers. Therefore we decided to help those wounded people since bullets could not penetrate my car."

Huma and Carlos Danger Reportedly 'Flipped' Against HRC
[WND] WASHINGTON ‐ Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s closest aide, has reportedly "flipped" and is cooperating with investigators looking into possible crimes by the former secretary of state.

Breitbart is reporting that is because Abedin fears she could go to jail over the scandal.

Blackwater founder and retired Navy SEAL Erik Prince said "well-placed" sources in the New York Police Department told him "(Anthony) Weiner and Huma Abedin, his wife ‐ the closest adviser of Hillary Clinton for 20 years ‐ have both flipped."

Secretary of State Clinton took $1 million Qatari gift - No reporting to State
[Reuters] The Clinton Foundation has confirmed it accepted a $1 million gift from Qatar while Hillary Clinton was U.S. secretary of state without informing the State Department, even though she had promised to let the agency review new or significantly increased support from foreign governments.

Qatari officials pledged the money in 2011 to mark the 65th birthday of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton's husband, and sought to meet the former U.S. president in person the following year to present him the check, according to an email from a foundation official to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign chairman, John Podesta. The email, among thousands hacked from Podesta's account, was published last month by WikiLeaks.

Clinton signed an ethics agreement governing her family's globe-straddling foundation in order to become secretary of state in 2009. The agreement was designed to increase transparency to avoid appearances that U.S. foreign policy could be swayed by wealthy donors.

Victor Davis Hansen: 'The Clintons ‐ At the End of All Things'
[National Review] What was the Clinton telos? The end point, the aim of all their lying, cheating, criminality, dishonor, and degradation? Given the latest Weiner scandals coming on top of the latest WikiLeaks scandals, we wonder, what did the Clintons really wish to end up as -- and why?

Are they Goethe’s Faust or tortured souls crushed by the weight of their money bags in Dante’s Fourth Circle of Hell? For a few criminals, remorse comes with old age; but for the Clintons, near-70 was to be the capstone, the last chance to trump all their prior shenanigans.

They were artists of amorality, and the election of 2016 was to be their magnum opus. Collate the FBI reopened investigation, WikiLeaks Podesta trove, revelations about the Clinton Foundation, the e-mail‐server scandal, the DNC disclosures, and the various off-the-cuff campaign remarks of Bill and Hillary Clinton, and one then ponders what was the point of the Clinton shakedowns, the loss of reputation, the crude lawbreaking, as they neared their seventh decade.

To paraphrase Barack Obama, in his progressive sermonizing on making enough money, did the two ever think they had enough money, enough honors, enough power already? The Hillary/Bill fortune -- generated by pay-for-play influence peddling on the proposition that Bill would return to the White House under Hillary’s aegis and reward friends while punishing enemies -- hit a reported $150 million some time ago, a fortune built not on farming, mining, insurance, finance, high-tech, or manufacturing, but on skimming off money.

The Clintons are simply grifters whose insider access to government gave them the power to make rich people richer.
Con't.

Venezuela’s Maduro Vows ‘Revolution’ Will Continue
[LAHT] The Venezuelan opposition needs to understand that "the revolution is going to continue," President Nicolas Maduro said Thursday, while urging his political foes to remain part of the dialogue the two sides began earlier this week.

The revolution begun in 1999 by his predecessor, the late Hugo Chavez, "is irreversible," Maduro said in a speech at the presidential palace.

He said that his opponents "must learn to co-exist with the revolution" and to accept the principle of democratic governance.

The leftist head of state went on to accuse the MUD opposition alliance of looking for "excuses" to abandon the dialogue that got under way last Sunday under the auspices of the Union of South American Nations and the Vatican.

Addressing opposition leaders, Maduro said: "I am the only president of the republic who ensures that you continue existing and the MUD continues exercising its political rights ‐ and you know it."

Earlier Thursday, the MUD set several conditions for resuming talks with the government on Nov. 11, including a demand that both sides commit to an "electoral solution" to the nation’s political crisis.

That electoral solution could involve a reactivation of a suspended presidential recall referendum process or early presidential elections, opposition Mayor Carlos Ocariz said.

Maduro responded to Ocariz by accusing the MUD of presenting an ultimatum and creating "false expectations."

"Nobody can say that in 10 days, if the government doesn’t respond the way they want ... they will go to war," the president said. "Nobody can accept that."

Syrian rebels renew Aleppo strikes before Russia truce
ALEPPO: Syrian rebels renewed their bid to break a government siege on eastern Aleppo on Thursday, shelling regime-held parts of the city, hours before a brief Russian-declared cease-fire was due to begin.

State media said at least 12 people had been killed in rebel rocket and gunfire on western neighborhoods, after an assault that began with a double car bomb attack.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for a Syrian Kurdish-Arab alliance known as the Syrian Democratic Forces said the group would lead the fight to recapture the Daesh group stronghold of Raqqa.

But he stressed that they rejected any role for Turkey, which in August began a military operation inside northern Syria targeting both Daesh and Kurdish fighters.

In Aleppo, rebels were engaged in fierce fighting with government forces in several districts on the western outskirts, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

The Britain-based group said the “most intense fighting” was on the edges of the Halab Al-Jadida neighborhood.

“If they take Halab Al-Jadida, they could advance toward the military complexes,” Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.
The clashes on Aleppo’s western outskirts could be heard in the city’s eastern districts, an AFP correspondent there said.

Rebels including former Al-Qaeda affiliate the Fateh Al-Sham Front began as assault on west Aleppo on Friday in a bid to break a three-month government siege.

No aid has reached eastern Aleppo city’s more than 250,000 residents since early July, and there are reports of shortages and price hikes.

The Observatory said government forces were carrying out airstrikes in areas where clashes were underway, but that the rebel-held neighborhoods in the east of the city were largely quiet.

Sharbat Gula's lawyer, Mubashir, said the accused had pleaded guilty to all charges against her in court today.

He said she had served about nine days in jail since her arrest and will remain imprisoned for six more to complete her sentence before she is deported from Pakistain.

During a bail hearing before a special court earlier this week, Sharbat Gula's lawyer said she is the sole bread winner of her family and is currently suffering from Hepatitis C.

Judge Farah Jamshed Khan, who dismissed Sharbat Gula's bail petition on Nov 2, had directed the suspect be produced in court today and heard the case.

    Britain
100s of fake limbs dumped outside Russian embassy
How clever they are, to be sure. No doubt the Russians will feel properly ashamed of their actions and cease forthwith.
[BBC] Protesters blocked the entrance to the London embassy on Thursday with 800 mannequin limbs which they said was in response to the killing of civilians in Syrian city Aleppo. Two people also chained themselves to the gates.

Campaigners said the limbs represented the injuries suffered by people. Activists began their protest at about 14:00 BST.

In a statement, the Russian embassy said it was "deeply concerned" about the unwillingness of the UK government to "ensure security and unhindered operation of the Russian diplomatic mission in London".

It added: "An unauthorised protest action by a group of unidentified people interrupted the work of the embassy as the entrance to the consular section was blocked up with a heap of mannequin body parts while the protestors handcuffed themselves to the gate.

"As a result, the mission staff and visitors were unable to enter the premises of the embassy. Police officers remained indifferent in the face of the openly provocative and disorderly conduct of the 'demonstrators'. Moreover, nuisance callers blocked the embassy telephone line rendering it impossible to contact the mission for genuine callers."

The Russian embassy statement accused the "so-called protest action" of being "carefully and thoroughly planned".

It also accused the government of waging an anti-Russian campaign in the media backed by Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson who in the House of Commons recently encouraged people to protest outside the Russian embassy. The Russian embassy appeared to suggest Boris Johnson was partly to blame by tweeting that the demonstration came "after the call of @BorisJohnson".

Federal Officials Warn of al-Qaeda Election Day Terror Threat
Most effective way to turn Undecideds into Trump voters that I can think of. Y'all keep an eye out for trouble, just in case someone decides to do something unwise.
[Breitbart] According to Rooters, the threat is "unspecific" and relatively "low-level," while the threat information is "uncorroborated." One official speculated that it was "just an attempt to inspire someone here to mount an attack."

A front man for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey acknowledged receiving the alert, while the New York Police Department said it was working with intelligence officials and the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

"Texans should go about their daily lives as usual, but remain vigilant over the next several days and report any suspicious activity," said Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who confirmed his office was monitoring the situation.

"We are doing everything we can to keep Virginians safe, and we’re confident they are going to be able to vote safely on Election Day," said Brian Coy, a front man for Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

A U.S. intelligence official told CBS News:

While we do not comment on intelligence matters, we will say the counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States. The FBI and DHS, working with our federal, state and local counterparts, share and assess intelligence on a daily basis and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and intelligence community partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to public safety.

CBS notes that a previous alert warned local police that polling places were "attractive targets" for "lone wolf" terrorist attacks by "individuals motivated by violent bad boy ideologies, sovereign citizen or other bad boy activity."

    -Land of the Free
This Week in Guns, November 5th, 2016

    By Chris Covert
    Rantburg.com

By this time next week, we'll know more about the 2016 presidential election.

    Well, not really.

By this time next week the 2016 presidential election will be concluded.

    Well, not really.

I suspect the following weeks right up to the presidential inauguration and possibly beyond will be a sh*t show. Both sides have deployed massive amounts of crazy to counter the massive amounts of crazy deployed by the other side. Whether the outcome is violent and for how long remains to be seen.

It has to be noted here, however, that the only class of ammunition/rifles to rise in price so far is the AR-10 .308 semiautomatic rifle. Last week prices of .308 cartridges absolutely jumped, and this week it has been the AR-10 style rifles. Maybe it heralds the application of Rule .308, or maybe it is the normal seasonal price increase. As I have written elsewhere, price increases in higher quality firearms have made themselves known, albeit in pistols, not in rifles. Those increases won't be apparent in this data compilation. I expect all classes of ammunition to rise slowly and temporarily, not more than 10 percent total for 5.56x45mm ammunition before the advent of Christmas.

I am seeing a lot of articles appear in the paid media threatening gun registration and confiscation from leftist media outlets that fully expect Hillary to win the White House.

Weapons Man posted a fisking of the news that the Bavarian state police confiscated a number of firearms from a man the reports said was "unreliable." This is German newsspeak for a sovereign citizen, or patriot as we may call him. The second attempt ended with three German police wounded and one dead. During the first attempt the man, identified as Wolfgang P simply refused the kops access to his residence.

But this is not about the fisking. You should peruse the comments, as they deal with gun confiscation going on and likely to increase in California. In the comments two schools of thought exist.

    Commenter Aesop is one side:

xFor reference, when they were first banned here in 1989, there were an estimated 100K black rifle named weapons, all semi-auto, in private hands. Less than 2K were ever registered with the state as “assault weapons”.

Once legal workarounds like goofy stocks and bullet button mag releases became commonplace, an estimated 1-2M EBRs have been sold hereabouts in the last decade-plus.

If so many as 2K of those ever get registered this time, I will be astonished.
(That’s assuming they even allow that, which as of this moment is far from clear.)

At a loss of only 1 cop per confiscatory visit (and some of us will prove much better marksmen than Herr Wolfgang P., above), they’re going to need quite a number of new cops, which takes them 12-36 months@ to recruit, select, train, and deploy) and I just don’t see it happening. After they lose five or ten, the popular sentiment will be to go all Dorner/BLM, and start picking the rest off pro-actively.

And as a rule, the average gun owner has about 5 times the tactical training and weapons-handling experience as the average cop, so that won’t go well for them either. I’d guesstimate that more than a miniscule fraction would be itching for the opportunity on both sides, and the police will be playing Custer to the general population’s Sitting Bull & Crazy Horse, for some decades.

Commenter Mike is on the other side:

Regarding the ‘average gun owner’s level of training and experience’ being five times that of police officers… It’s been a while since you’ve been to a public range, hasn’t it? I can assure you that the average gun owner is no better than the average police officer, and frequently worse.

I’d say out of every hundred current gun owners in the US, less than ten have any formal training on firearms, and that was probably from either the military or the boy scouts. In most cases, it was decades ago. A high percentage of American gun owners probably go months or years between shooting sessions. My brother in law, for example- he’s owned a .22 LR rifle for years, and shoots it about every two years. This summer, he bought his first centerfire rifle, an AR. He’s shot it once so far, at some cans in the desert. I explained to him the process for zeroing it beforehand; when he got back from shooting I asked him if he had any problems with zeroing and he told me that he had skipped it so he and his son could get to blasting cans.

Based off of my experiences as a firearms instructor, I’d say that maybe three out of a hundred gun owners actually pay for a firearms training class that’s not mandated by law like some states require for a CCW license. Maybe one out of those three will take more than one class.

Old, Cranky and Armed weighs in:

I have read this defeatist claptrap before. The problem with such a scheme is that if it were viable, it would already have been tried. It’s all nonsense. People will have the sense to understand that whatever such games may be played, it is still a declaration of war. Those who try to implement it will be killed anyway. In fact more such people will be killed than with the old SWAT tactic, because it is hard to take a SWAT team out when you are waking up at 3AM with a flash-bang in the bedroom. It’s much easier to knock a lone, offensive bureaucrat off. People will simply lie when they do the certification you speak of, or simply do without the license that requires it. No, you have not found the magic formula that tyrants may use to disarm irate and dangerous Americans, sorry. Go back to your friends at Salon.

You really should read all the comments, some of them amusing, but most of them serious.

My head is with Mike, but Aesop owns my heart.

    Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Prices for pistol ammunition were steady. Prices for rifle ammunition were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were lower across the board. Prices for used rifles were mostly lower.

    New Lows:

    None.

#3  Just a couple of pieces of Swiss K-31 rifle trivia.

If you remove the two screws holding the butt plate, do not be surprised to find a small piece of paper come floating out. It will be about 1 inch x 2.75 inches in size and will contain a name of a soldier and his home of records (Swiss city or village). This would have been the last soldier to have carried the rifle. The K-31 was used for many, many years. Some owners have successfully made contact previous Swiss owners.

The K-31 is one of the few military rifles which has an adjustable front site. The Finish M-39 is another.

    Iraq
62yo USAF vet battles against ISIS on lonely desert front
Fox News recently made the eight hour trip west from Mosul to the front outside the devastated city of Sinjar and found a small outpost where a handful of men hold off near-daily attacks from ISIS fighters.

One soldier manning the post was David Shumock, a 62-year-old Floridian and former U.S. Air Force pararescueman. The American fights side-by-side with the Kurdish Peshmerga, and serves as medic and trainer to his comrades as well.

Shumock has called the dusty makeshift camp surrounded on three sides by ISIS, [home] for a year. When he and his fellow fighters arrived, ISIS had only just been ousted from Sinjar city. Their first effort was to rebuild the forward base by hand – fixing roofs, and ringing it with lookouts posts.

From this base, the men, part of the Kurdish quick reaction force, support a 500-mile long line, responding to attacks wherever and whenever they come. Often, it’s their base under attack from artillery. The line they oversee straddles the ISIS corridor to Syria, and is a key supply route to reinforce Mosul with both men and equipment.

Yet even as the long-awaited move to retake Mosul is underway, the western front has been largely unguarded by the coalition of Iraqi army, Kurdish forces, Shia militia and U.S. advisers working together against ISIS.

“Conventional military wisdom says you encircle your enemy and defeat him," Shumock said. "For some reason, they’ve left the western side of Mosul all the way to Syria open, and, as the general told you, we see 500 vehicles moving every day, resupplying Mosul and Tal Afar. And there’s nothing we can do.”

As he watches these convoys, Shumock explained how they’re prohibited from attacking unless they are certain no civilians are in the line of fire. It's not just the rules of engagement handcuffing Shumock and his fellow fighters. They are sorely lacking in support, he said.

“In the year I’ve been here, we’ve never seen a U.S. officer, or received any support from them,” he said.

They’re so undersupplied they’ve had to raise money in the U.S. just to buy night vision goggles so they can see what they’re shooting at during nightly raids.

Shumock came to Iraq after losing his only daughter in a car crash, and seeing videos of ISIS murdering women and children. He said he wanted to put his military skills into service of a righteous cause.

Near the base lies a grim reminder of the brutality of ISIS: The mass graves of thousands of Yazidi villagers who were killed as their ancestral home was overrun. Shumock himself has found some of the mass graves while on patrol. Once, he followed a trail of bone fragments to a place where the skulls and bones of countless souls were piled up.

    Arabia
Soddys eliminate Houthi snipers at their border
[Al Arabiya] Saudi Arabian forces have targeted and killed several Houthi snipers who were positioned inside the Yemeni borders facing al-Doud Mountain.

The Al-Mwasim region remained relatively calm since last night as the Apache helicopters and Saudi artillery were able to repulse in the afternoon an attack led by Houthi militias and Republican Guards as they were trying to reach Saudi borders. They were targeted and dozens were killed in the operation.

The Coalition aircraft also destroyed two boats belonging to the Houthis. The boats had set off from the Mocha port in Yemen toward international waters, threatening marine navigation.

According to the Coalition, verification was done on the information regarding the existence of two Houthi surveillance boats equipped with radars and a 12.7 caliber machine gun in front of the Mocha coast. The two boats were spotted and targeted on Wednesday by the Apache helicopter; a thermal missile was launched from the boats.

Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that the Houthi militias on Wednesday performed the funeral of one of their important leaders, Brigadier General Mohammed Abdul Rahman al-Khalid, commander of the Second Brigade of the border guards affiliated to the rebels.

Khalid was meeting with a number of field and military leaders of the Houthi and Saleh militias in the Zaidiyyah security department building when the Coalition aircraft targeted the building.

The Saudi border region of al-Khubah also witnessed violent clashes on Thursday during which Saudi artillery was able to destroy two military vehicles belonging to the Republican Guard. The two vehicles were carrying dozens of fighters, owing allegiance to ousted leader Ali Abdullah Saleh, who were trying to move toward the Saudi border. The border forces and the Saudi artillery in the region managed to eliminate them.

Egypt police arrest MB suspects allegedly behind murder of top prosecutor in Cairo last year
    [AlAhram] Egyptian police jugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
a number of people who confessed to "plotting terrorist attacks against security forces and government figures," most notably the liquidation of top prosecutor Hisham Barakat in June 2015, the interior ministry announced on Friday.

The ministry said that some of those arrested grabbed credit for Barakat’s murder as well as an liquidation attempt against Egypt's former leading Moslem holy man Ali Gomaa in August.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the ministry said that its intelligence work has revealed that the Moslem Brüderbund is forming new "terrorist entities" such as Haraket Thowar Misr, Hasm and Lowaa El-Thawra, and uses these groups "as a media front" to take the blame for the Brotherhood’s violent attacks.

The interior minister previously accused the leaders of the Moslem Brüderbund in exile in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and the group's Paleostinian offshoot Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, as being behind the liquidation of Barakat.

"Security forces have also seized arms and explosives and located hiding places used for Death Eater training, storing supplies and manufacturing bombs," the statement said.

Egypt’s then-top prosecutor Barakat died in a Cairo kaboom in June 2015; the only successful liquidation attempt against a state official since an upswing in Death Eater violence following the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

One of the little-known new Death Eater groups, Hasm, had previously claimed responsibly for the aforementioned attacks.

The Moslem Brüderbund was officially designated a terrorist organization by the government in December 2013 following several deadly attacks on security personnel.

Attacks against Egypt's security forces have become common in recent years but are mostly concentrated in North Sinai, where Egypt's army and police are battling an entrenched Islamist insurgency.
    Ynet quantifies:
Police detained seven members of the Hasam Movement and Louwaa al-Thawra, the interior ministry said - both groups that have grabbed credit for liquidation attempts on judges, coppers and military officers in recent months.

There was no immediate comment from either organization, or from the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund, which says it is a peaceful movement and accuses the government of abuses.

Car bomb targets Cairo judge unsuccessfully

[AlAhram] A boom-mobile went kaboom! in Cairo on Friday unsuccessfully targeting a judge who is trying a case against supporters of ousted president Mohammed Morsi, a security source told Ahram Online.

The incident took place in the district of Nasr City and was aimed at judge Ahmed El-Fotouh, according to the source. Another security source told Ahram's Arabic website that there were no casualties.

Explosives experts were dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.

The prosecutor-general has ordered the opening of an investigation into the incident, and a team from the prosecution is on the scene to examine evidence.
Update from Ynet at 2:00 p.m. ET:
A newly-emerged militant group, the Hasam Movement, claimed responsibility for Friday's bombing, which occurred in the eastern Cairo neighbourhood of Nasr City.

"The Hasam Movement's central bombing squad targeted the regime's dog and one of hell's judges Ahmed Aboul Fotouh using a car bomb near his house," the group said in a statement. "To every unjust judge you still have a chance to think it through and leave this dirty swamp that is unfairly referred to as the judiciary."

Spot welding on USS Montgomery pops in canal collision
While guided by the Panamanian pilot.
The Littoral Combat Ship USS Montgomery (LCS-8) suffered damage during a transit through the Panama Canal on its way to its new homeport in San Diego, Calif., USNI News has learned.

Montgomery, was crossing from the Atlantic to the Pacific when the LCS collided with one of the walls of the lock and suffered damage to the hull on Oct. 29, Cmdr. Ryan Perry with U.S. 3rd Fleet told USNI News on Monday.

“Under control of the local Panama Canal Pilot, the ship impacted the center lock wall and sustained an 18-inch-long crack between her port quarter and transom plates,” Perry said.
“The crack is located 8-10 feet above the waterline and poses no water intrusion or stability risk.”

The ship is now on the Pacific side of the canal heading to its new homeport.

#8  SteveS, the Montgomery is one of the trimaran designs. I'm not a naval engineer, but it seems to me that the trimaran design could have some interesting effects, although at the low speeds used while transiting the locks it should be a huge deal.

Having the pilot in control should relieve the captain and the OOD (Officer of the Deck) from responsibility - so they won't be relieved.

On the other hand, if a low speed collision opens up a 18 inch crack, I wonder how she would handle in really heavy weather.

    Suicide bomber thwarted in Benghazi
    Benghazi, 4 November 2016:

A would-be suicide bomber was shot dead today by soldiers in Benghazi before he was able to detonate the explosives he was wearing.

According to the Libyan National Army, the incident happened in the city’s Sabri district. With two makeshift vests each with six kilos of explosives, the bomber managed to get near a group of soldiers before being spotted and shot.

There are fears of a resurgence of suicide bombing and assassinations in the city as the last bastions of Islamic militants are crushed. Today, there was an attempt to kill the head of the Magharba tribe while six days ago, anti-corruption activist Mohamed Bughaighis in a car bombing.

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Warning Update: Russia Prepares to Escalate Military Intervention in Syria
[ISWResearch] Key Takeaway: Russia is preparing to escalate its military operations in Syria in order to tout its standing as a great power, reinforce its claims to be a credible partner against violent extremism, and reinvigorate domestic support for its continued participation in the Syrian Civil War. Russia has set conditions for a major demonstration of its military might following the completion of the latest in a long series of ’humanitarian pauses’ in Aleppo City set to end on November 4. Russia’s sole aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, is expected to arrive off the Syrian Coast in the coming days. The arrival of the Kuznetsov with its accompanying fleet of cruise missile-equipped submarines and frigates signals Russia’s likely intent to conduct a new wave of strikes against strategically significant targets in Syria. The deployment comes amidst a recent opposition offensive to break the pro-regime siege of Aleppo City as well as continued pro-regime gains in the Eastern Ghouta Suburbs of Damascus. Russia will likely exploit opportunities in both Aleppo City and Damascus to highlight its ability to project force against "terrorism" and demonstrate the continued legitimacy of its client regime.

    Implications

The Russian escalation as part of a Syrian regime offensive in Damascus and a counter-offensive in Aleppo will accelerate the radicalization of the opposition. Russian strikes by air and by sea will target acceptable opposition groups as they have during previous escalations to eliminate legitimate alternatives to the Assad regime. This continued pressure will hasten the ongoing transformation of the opposition into a movement dominated by Salafi-Jihadist groups such as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria. In the absence of better options, acceptable opposition groups will increasingly cleave to extremist factions for self-preservation in the face of concerted pro-regime advances enabled by the Russian air campaign. Russia’s support to the Assad regime continues to remove potential partners for the U.S. against ISIS and al-Qaeda in Syria from the battlefield. The U.S. must therefore be willing to counter the support that Russia is currently providing to the Assad regime in order to achieve its national security objective in Syria.

Police identify 50 people from Nasirnagar video footage
[Dhaka Tribune] Police have identified around 50 people from videos captured during the anti-Hindu attacks in Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria

Brahmanbaria police’s Additional SP Iqbal Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune on Friday afternoon that police had collected as many videos of the attack as possible and scrutinised them.

"We have identified around 50 people from the videos and we will soon go into action against them," he said.

A senior district police official seeking anonymity said that police would not spare anyone, no matter how influential, if they were involved in the attack.

There were strict instructions from high up to not be lenient during this drive, the official added.

Locals and victims of the attack have alleged that influential people from Nasirnagar were behind the attacks on the Hindu community that took place on on October 30 in Nasirnagar. At least 10 temples and hundreds of houses of the community were vandalised.

The National Human Rights Commission’s fact-finding committee has also named several men saying they are influential locally and were behind the attack.

According to the local security officials, the incident took place earlier today in Lashkargah city, the provincial capital of Helmand province.

The officials further added that the reporter was killed after his vehicle struck the IED in the area where intense fighting erupted last night.

The Ariana Television confirmed that one of its reporter, Nematullah Zaheer, was killed in the line of duty, confirming that the reporter was killed in a roadside bomb explosion.

“We lost a brave reporter, Nematullah Zaheer, in line of duty. Zaheer was targeted by a roadside bomb in Helmand,” Ariana News said in a Twitter post.

The Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah condemned the killing of Zaheer, saying the death of Zahir is a major loss for the southern provinces of the country.

The anti-governmetn armed militant groups have not commented regarding the incident so far.

The Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to other insurgent groups frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (EID) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces but in majority of such attacks the ordinary civilians are targeted.

Hemingway missed the thought that dog shit means dogs, very often a good thing to have around -- as my grandfather could attest after a particular day in 1937, when there was not quite an intersection between himself, his loyal hunting bitch, and the two SS officers who decided that not trying to arrest him that day was the better part of valour. And lawyers are like guns, despite the rhetoric -- an equalizer for the poor and weak that in our country anyone can wield.

    Iraq
PMU’s commander Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandis warns Turkey
[ALMASDARNEWS] PMU's (Popular Mobilization Units) commander advices the Turkish government to withdraw from their bases in Bashiqa. Following the recent statements of Turkish government officials that they want to be part of the groundforces that are going to liberate djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
    from ISIS elements.

Currently, Iraqi forces are heavily occupied with fighting ISIS in Mosul as they are almost going to enter the city centre. There are however no specific foreign boots on the ground as the Iraqi PM and FM have mentioned explicitly that the Iraqi people can liberate their own land without having help on the ground from other countries.

Iraq, on the other hand, receives support from an international coalition. Which is more a facilitating role from these countries and does not involve boots on the ground. Last few days the Iraqi PM 'Haidar al-Abadi' and Turkish President 'Recep Erdogan' exchanged some heavy words about the battle of Mosul, where Turkish President mentioned that Mosul was part of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, and Iraqi PM mentioned that Turkey belonged to Iraq as part of the Abbysid empire.

Iraqi Army, Assyrian forces liberate several neighborhoods in east Mosul
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iraqi Army, backed by the Nineveh Plains Protection Units (Assyrian forces),
...that would be the Christian units...
liberated several neighborhoods from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and al-Sham in eastern djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
    on Friday.

According to local field correspondents, the Iraqi Army and their allies liberated the Qarqouli, Samah, Khadrah, Karameh, Mayleen, and Quds neighborhoods of Mosul after a fierce battle with the Islamic State of Iraq this morning.

West of Mosul, the Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd al-Sha'abi) continued their powerful assault against the remaining Islamic State bully boyz near the Aleppo-Mosul Highway, killing a large number of Death Eaters while advancing east towards the city gates.

The Iraqi Armed Forces will likely intensify their offensive in the coming days, as they strive to expel the remaining Islamic State bully boyz from the city.

ISIS crucifies woman in Deir ez-Zor
That's what Allah invented them for, it seems.
[ARA News] Deir ez-Zor – The Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants on Friday executed a woman in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor Governorate, after accusing her of spying for Kurdish forces, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

Asmaa Muhammad, 41, was arrested by the ISIS-led Islamic Police –also known as Diwan al-Hisba– in a village in Deir ez-Zor countryside under the pretext that she has communicated with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The YPG and other factions of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been in fight with ISIS for more than two years.

The victim was arrested in the Hawij al-Bumaasa village in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

“The Sharia Court accused her of spying for hostile Kurdish forces and ordered her execution,” local media activist Ahmed Ramadan told ARA News.

Asmaa was shot dead and then crucified in a public square in central Deir ez-Zor. Hundreds of people witnessed the brutal execution.

“Her body was covered with blood when they brutally crucified her. They banned the people from approaching the body,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

This comes amid ongoing fighting between the SDF and ISIS on several fronts in northern Syria, including Hasakah’s southern countryside, Aleppo’s and Raqqa’s northern countrysides.

ISIS has recently arrested and punished dozens of civilians on suspicion of spying for the Kurdish-led SDF forces.

Professional Lebanese footballer dies in Aleppo fighting with Hezbollah
[ALMASDARNEWS] PressTV reported that a close source to Hezbollah, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said on Friday that 19-year-old Kassem Shamkha was killed the previous day as he and fellow fighters were repelling a jihadist holy warrior assault on the western flank of Aleppo.

The late midfielder used to play for al-Ahed Sport Club, which competes in Leb's top soccer division ‐ the Lebanese Premier League. al-Ahed, which is strongly supported by the Lebanese Shia Moslems and affiliated to Hezbollah movement, has won the Lebanese Premier League crown four times.

"He will go down in history in the club's records, because he was a hero on the football field just like on the battlefield in defense of the homeland," al-Ahed Secretary General Mohammad Assi said.

"He was a talented player with huge potential for the club and for Leb, but he chose the route of jihad," he added.
"He will go down in history" -- name one charioteer from Constantinople's Greens or Blues. They used to have race riots (so to speak) over who won or was gonna win.

Rebels open fire on humanitarian convoy in east Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] Earlier today, a group of jihadist rebels opened fire on another humanitarian convoy in east Aleppo, wounding one journalist from al-Ikhbariya TV that was traveling with aid workers.

According to a local source, a rebel group fired artillery shells towards the convoy, hitting a humanitarian aid vehicle that was traveling through the al-Castillo Highway this afternoon.

The Russian military has opened four humanitarian corridors in east Aleppo today; however, the jihadist rebels prohibit any civilians from fleeing the besieged neighborhoods, despite the desperate situation in the area.

An estimated 50,000-250,000 people still remain in the besieged east Aleppo neighborhoods, as both the Syrian Armed Forces and jihadist rebels battle for control of these districts.

    The Grand Turk
Deaths, injuries in car bombing in Turkey; Kurdish legislators held
[AlAhram] A large kaboom, caused by a boom-mobile, hit the largest city in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's mainly Kurdish southeast region on Friday, hours after authorities detained at least 12 pro-Kurdish politicians for questioning in terror-related probes.

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said both police and non-combatants were killed in the attack but did not say how many. The state-run Anadolu Agency said one person was killed and some 30 others were maimed.

The blast occurred in Diyarbakir's Baglar district, near a building used by the riot police. The Diyarbakir governor's office said the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, had claimed the attack.

Anadolu said the attack was carried out with a minibus laden with a ton of explosives.

The blast caused a large crater near the police building and damaged several buildings and businesses nearby. Television footage showed people walking among glass and other debris near buildings with windows blown out.

Hours earlier, police detained 11 politicians from the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party, or HDP, including the party's two co-chairs, Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag.

The detentions occurred in the middle of the night, with co-chair Demirtas describing on Twitter how he was taken into custody: "Police officials are at the door to my house in Diyarbakir with a detention warrant."

State-run Anadolu Agency reported co-chair Yuksekdag was detained in her home in Ankara. Other bigwigs taken away included Sirri Sureyya Onder and Idris Baluken. A twelfth politician was also detained during the day.

An Interior Ministry statement said a total of 15 detention warrants were issued by the chief public prosecutors in Diyarbakir and the provinces of Sirnak, Hakkari, Van and Bingol. Two of the politicians were determined to be abroad, and authorities are still searching for one.

Anadolu reported the politicians were detained for not appearing in court to testify in ongoing terrorism-related investigations.

The government accuses the HDP of being the political arm of the PKK, an accusation the party rejects.

    President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
and other senior government officials have repeatedly called for the prosecution of pro-Kurdish politicians on terrorism-related charges, which was made possible after legal immunities protecting politicians from prosecution were lifted in May.

Hundreds of charges were filed against HDP politicians following the lifting of immunity, including "disseminating terrorist propaganda" and "membership in an armed terrorist organization."

Demirtas reportedly reacted to the lifting of immunity by saying none of his fellow party members would voluntarily appear in court to testify. "If they want our testimony they'll have to force us there," he said, according to Anadolu.

Justice Minister Bozdag defended the detentions in a speech Friday, "The politicians that were detained did not help the legal process to proceed, they did not recognize the law. They did not respect the law."

Earlier this week Gultan Kisanak, the HDP mayor of the largest predominantly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir, along with co-mayor Firat Anli, was tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
over alleged membership in the PKK.

In September, the government similarly ousted 28 mayors and other administrators, mostly from the HDP, and appointed trustees in their place.

D.C. taking possession of Walter Reed property from Army
[Wash Times] After 11 years of wrangling, the campus of Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Georgia Avenue now belongs to the District -- and in coming years will become a town center featuring office buildings, shops, apartments and a grocery store.
Once opulent, palm lined and manicured U.S. facilities and troop housing in Panama.
    The palms are still there...
"The wait is over, and a new beginning is in sight at Walter Reed," D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Wednesday at a ceremony in which the Army signed over ownership of the property to the District.

"The Walter Reed Campus is one of the most important development projects in the District," Miss Bowser said. "It will bring jobs, affordable housing, economic opportunity and pathways to the middle class for thousands of residents."

Walter Reed, which served as the Army’s flagship medical center since 1909, was slated for closure in 2005 by the Defense Department’s Base Realignment and Closure Commission. In 2011 the facility was officially closed and replaced by the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

After more than 100 public meetings in a planning process that started in 2009, the District struck a deal with the Defense Department to buy 66 of Walter Reed’s 113 acres (including all the land that fronts Georgia Avenue) for $22.5 million. The remaining land will go to the State Department and the Children’s National Medical Center.

    The Grand Turk
Social media interrupted in Turkey after crackdown
[IsraelTimes] WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube slowed or stopped after government arrests top Kurdish.

Internet users in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
were on Friday experiencing severe difficulties accessing social media after the country was plunged into new turbulence by the detention of its main pro-Kurdish leaders, correspondents and a watchdog said.

The messaging service WhatsApp was not working while users were also reporting severe problems accessing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other sites, AFP correspondents and Internet users said.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirm did not directly confirm that blocks were in place but acknowledged that "from time to time for security reasons we can use such measures."

"These are temporary measures. Once the danger is passed, everything returns to normal," he told news hounds in Istanbul in televised comments.

The problems came after 11 MPs from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), including its co-leaders Figen Yuksekdag and Selahattin Demirtas, were detained in an unprecedented crackdown.

Turkey is regularly accused of blocking access to social media in heightened situations such as terror attacks.

The monitoring site Turkey Blocks said that Twitter, Facebook and YouTube were down in Turkey while restrictions had also been imposed on WhatsApp, Skype and Instagram.

The site, which monitors internet restrictions in Turkey, said this had been carried out by a "throttling" at Internet Service Provider (ISP) level, including national providers like TTNet and Turkcell.

"Internet restrictions are increasingly being used in Turkey to suppress media coverage of political incidents, a form of censorship deployed at short notice to prevent civil unrest," it said.

It said that while there had been restrictions on Twitter and Facebook in the past, this was the first time that popular messaging services like WhatsApp were affected.

Users in the southeast of Turkey had last week reported major difficulties in using the internet.

Many internet-savvy Turks during such times turn to Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to subvert the restrictions on public servers.

Thousands of Muslims protest Indonesian Governor’s alleged blasphemy
This is not the moderate Islam of President Obama's childhood.
[KOBI5] Thousands of protesters waving flags are marching through Jakarta demanding the ouster of the city’s governor, who has been accused of blasphemy against Moslems.

Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, commonly known as Ahok, is alleged to have insulted Islam by criticizing his opponents’ use of a Koranic verse in a stump speech.

As many as 18,000 police and military personnel have been deployed for Friday’s protest, and an inner ring of approximately 100 armed military guards are outside the Governor’s residence, CNN Indonesia says.

Local media suggest as many as 50,000 people could take to the streets. There are fears that ISIS, and al-Qaeda, through its Indonesian proxy Jemaah Islamiyah, could seek to ferment violence.

Police have called on demonstrators to exercise their right to protest and freedom of expression in a peaceful manner. Residents have been warned to avoid the protest route and avoid sharing "unclear... provocative and incorrect information" on social media, Police Chief Tito Karnavian said in a statement.

The rally originates at Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta and will end at the Presidential palace. Governments, including the UK and Australia, have urged their citizens in the city to exercise caution.

Conservative Islamist opponents say that Ahok, who is a Christian of Chinese descent, should not administer a Moslem-majority city.

They had previously quoted a verse from the Moslem holy book at a rally, which warns against Moslems allying themselves with non-believers.

Ahok is a key ally of President Joko Widodo and was his deputy when Widodo -- also known as Jokowi -- was governor of Jakarta. Ahok is now the frontrunner in the 2017 gubernatorial race.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo with Ahok after the latter’s swearing in as governor on November 19, 2014.

Jokowi has called for calm and is seeking support from Prabowo Subianto, his opponent in next year’s presidential election.

Former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, whose son is running against Ahok, made a speech two days ago calling for the governor to be persecuted to placate the Islamist opposition and quell the protests.

#1  The Christian governor did not "insult Islam"

They are rioting because he is Christian and Islamists do NOT believe that Christians should ever be in a position of power over Muslims. He is the governor but he is not Muslim, therefore he has to be removed. Islamists are supremacists. The slang term for "christian" in pakistan equates to "streetsweeper" because low jobs is all Christians can get in Islamist dominated societies, where they will not be put in a position overseeing a Muslim.

pay attention. Halal certification made compulsory by SBY in last act before leaving. Aceh under sharia. HT rallying last March with 100,000 turnout.

This is Islamism rising. Soon you'll be looking to China to be a bullwark against Indonesia instead of the other way round.

#11  Not long ago I had a very fancy dinner in Beijing with a very influential Chinese businesswoman and her white Aussie mentor. The very well-mannered Australian woman engaged me at length about American politics and was absolutely horrified about Trump. I tried to calm her down but a little but her hysteria was remarkable. It probably didn't help when I mentioned that I was not a Hillary backer. But when she tried to guilt-trip me against Trump with a lot of liberal globalist blather, I had no choice but to gently let her know that I liked Trump in this election, and a lot of other people do too.

Sting to reopen Bataclan on eve of Paris attacks anniversary
[AlAhram] Sting will re-open Gay Paree' Bataclan concert hall on November 12, a day before the anniversary of the jihadist attack that left 90 people dead there, the British rock star said Friday. The former frontman of The Police said he had agreed to the highly-charged gig "to remember and honour those who bit the dust in the attack a year ago, and to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents.

"In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them," he added in a statement on his website.

The announcement is a major boost for the venue which had reportedly been struggling to attract big names back to perform there, fearful of the emotional weight of the occasion.

All revenues from the show will be donated to two charities working with victims of the Gay Paree attacks, Sting's statement added.

On the day of the anniversary itself, survivors of the attack will attend the unveiling of a plaque in front of the concert hall, Gay Paree city hall said. But the building itself will remain closed.

The US rock group Eagles of Death Metal -- who were on stage when the massacre began -- will also be present at the ceremony, according to French rolling news channel BFMTV.

Another British rocker, Pete Doherty, will play the refurbished venue for two nights starting on November 16 and he will be followed by Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
ese star Youssou N'Dour and singer Marianne Faithfull.

The British-born Sixties legend, who lives in the French capital, told AFP she will perform "They Come at Night" for the first time, a song that she wrote in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

"I understand that it's frightening," 69-year-old Faithfull said of bands who were reluctant to play the venue in eastern Gay Paree again. "I don't blame them. But there is no point in being afraid. I don't think it will happen again."

The French singer Francis Cabrel said recently he had declined an offer to appear. "There was just too much emotion for me," he said. "I am sorry, but it is beyond me."

The Bataclan was one of several targets in a wave of bloody attacks across the French capital by Islamic State

gunnies and jacket wallahs on the night of November 13, 2015. Bars, restaurants and the national stadium were also hit, leaving a total of 130 people dead.

Eagles of Death Metal made an emotional return to Gay Paree in February, playing in front of hundreds of survivors of the attacks at the Olympia concert hall. One of the band's crew was among the dead.

    However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
controversial comments by the band's frontman Jesse Hughes alleging that the venue's Arab-origin employees were complicit in the attack have tarnished its image in La Belle France. The venue strongly rejected the charges and invitations to play French summer music festivals were cancelled.

Hughes, a rare right-wing rocker and supporter of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, has also said without evidence that Moslems were celebrating outside during the venue during the siege. Before he made the claims, Hughes told AFP that he wanted to play the Bataclan again one day.

Claims of Election Fraud Resonate With Growing Audience
[ABCNEWS.GO] Outraged claims of voting fraud are no longer only a regular part of elections in unsteady, young democracies -- they're increasingly being made in established democratic countries by populist politicians who question the fairness of the voting process -- and with it the validity of representation by and for the people.

At the final debate of the U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump refused to commit to honor the result of the Nov. 8 vote. But he's not the only example of a politician casting doubt on the fairness of the democratic system in countries where it is the norm.

Austria's right-wing Freedom Party had the results of presidential elections this year overturned after its candidate was narrowly defeated; fear that ballots marked in pencil in Britannia could be tampered with forced that country's electoral commission to issue a statement reminding voters they could use a pen if they preferred; and former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi
...former Italian prime minister, known for his plain (for a European politician) speaking and his liking for hookers a third his age or less...
has yet to concede defeat in a 2006 vote that he claims was flawed.

Populists in Europe argue that the cards are stacked against them by the whole process, a message that appears to be gaining support.

"A wide segment of people is questioning democratic institutions across Europe and the U.S.," said Brian Klaas of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Politicians in young democracies are predictably most prone to cry fraud. Opposition parties in the formerly communist Yugoslav republics of Montenegro and Macedonia have questioned the validity of national elections in the past year, and Poland's right-wing Law and Justice party, now in power nationally, challenged the results of local elections it lost two years ago.

But populist parties in some of Europe's established democracies are also increasingly flashing the fraud card, hoping to gain by spreading distrust of the establishment, even at the cost of turmoil.

Comments from Trump supporter Roger Stone in August indicate a common trans-Atlantic playbook.

"I think we have widespread voter fraud, but the first thing that Trump needs to do is begin talking about it constantly," Stone said in a podcast discussion with conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. "If there's voter fraud, this election will be illegitimate, the election of the winner will be illegitimate, we will have a constitutional crisis, widespread civil disobedience, and the government will no longer be the government."

    Afghanistan
Afghan government blames Taliban for civilian deaths
The Afghan government on Friday said that the Taliban used civilians as human shields during Wednesday night's military operation in Kunduz which resulted in the death of at least 30 civilians.

CEO Abdullah Abdullah on Friday urged the Afghan security forces to do whatever they can to prevent civilian deaths in ongoing battles. He also slammed the use of civilians as human shields by the Taliban and said it was a cowardly act.

"Taliban leaders were there, unfortunately they used people as human shields - as a result innocent civilians and children were martyred and I convey my condolences to the bereaved families," said Abdullah.

Meanwhile, U.S Defense Secretary Ashton Carter also condemned the incident that led to the loss of civilian lives during the Kunduz operation, but reiterated that Washington was committed to its plan to complete its mission in Afghanistan.

Ash Carter said he was "deeply saddened" to learn that two U.S. service members had been killed and four injured in Afghanistan.

"Our service members were doing their part to help the Afghans secure their own country while protecting our homeland from those who would do us harm," he said in a statement.

Reports indicate that at least 30 civilians were killed during an armed confrontation between the Afghan security forces and the Taliban in Boz Kandahari area of Kunduz, close to Pul-e-Alchin - which is a suburb of the provincial capital.

Most of the victims killed in the operation were women and children.

"The number of those wounded is around 25 people while another 30 people were killed," said Assadullah Omarkhial, the governor of Kunduz.

Meanwhile, a source close to the Afghan special forces has said that the Afghan special commandos raided the area with the support of their foreign counterparts. Their plan was to eliminate two top Taliban commanders who had taken shelter inside civilian homes alongside their fighters and were targeting Afghan security forces.

The source added that at least 10 Afghan commandos killed or wounded including a number of US soldiers.

"Insurgents attacked our forces from four directions and forces had to retaliate," said Mohammad Radmanish, a deputy spokesman for the ministry of defense.

It is believed that the Taliban also suffered heavy casualties during the operation. Reports indicate at least 64 Taliban fighters including two top commanders were eliminated during the operation.

The presidential palace on Thursday night also confirmed in a statement that during a military operation on Wednesday night insurgents infiltrated residential areas and used people as human shields in the Boz Kandahari area of Kunduz leaving a number of women and children dead and wounded.

"President Ghani was shocked after hearing the news of the civilian death toll and directed the security and defense officials and Kunduz governor to take all necessary steps during operations to prevent civilian casualties," the statement read.

The statement noted that Ghani has assigned a task team to probe the incident in order to implement the law against those who committed this inhumane act.

"Whenever the Taliban face a siege, they use the people as human shields, they enter people's homes by force and take women and children hostage," said senator Ali Akbar Jamshidi.

France clears 3,000 migrants from camp near Paris

[IsraelTimes] Authorities began an operation early Friday to clear more than 3,000 migrants from a camp in the northeast of the French capital.

The operation to clear the sprawling tent encampment, near the Canal Saint-Martin under an overhead metro bridge in the Stalingrad district, proceeded peacefully, an AFP journalist at the scene said.

Officials gathered several hundred male migrants shortly before 6:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) behind a police line in a part of the camp housing Afghans. Buses were due to take them during the morning to accommodation centers around the greater Paris region of Ile-de-France.

The arrival of the first bus, before dawn, was greeted with cheers.

“I don’t know where we are going,” said Khalid, 28. “The important thing for me is to have my papers. I have been here in a tent for a month, it’s good to leave.”

The operation comes after a major operation last week to clear the notorious “Jungle” migrant camp at the northern French port of Calais, which has for years served as a jumping-off point for migrants attempting to stow away on trucks and trains bound across the Channel for Britain. Some 6,000 people, mostly Afghans, Sudanese and Eritreans, had been living in the Jungle in squalid conditions as Europe struggles with its worst migration crisis since World War II.

The Paris encampment has also been cleared twice in recent months, in July and September. But the tents have been spreading across the pavements again in recent weeks, with some 3,000 people sleeping there at present, according to sources close to the operation.

Greece: 15 arrested in anti-mosque protest

[AlAhram] Police say 15 protesters have been arrested in Athens for staging an occupation at a site where a mosque is due to be built using state funds.

Protests were launched at the site two weeks ago but ended early Friday when riot police were sent to the area to make the arrests shortly after dawn. The protesters face charges of public disturbance and are to appear at a prosecutor's office later Friday.

Parliament voted for the 950,000-euro ($1 million) project in August, with the left-wing government receiving cross-party support. The number of Muslims living in Greece has risen in recent years due to a spike in immigration and the refugee crisis.

The extreme-right Golden Dawn party opposes the mosque and had supported the protest.

Swiss court upholds refusal of permit for Islamic kindergarten

[Ynet] Switzerland's highest court has upheld the canton of Zurich's decision to refuse permission for an Islamic society to open a religious kindergarten, saying its plans did not fulfil the legal requirements for such schools.

The Federal Court's ruling highlights increasingly tense relations between traditionally Christian Swiss society and a Muslim minority that makes up around 5 percent of the population.

The lower house of parliament in September narrowly backed a ban on face veils, a step widely supported in opinion polls.

A school's decision this year to let two Muslim pupils not shake their teachers' hands added fresh fuel to a debate about integration of immigrants.

The PMU also found ISIS-manufactured decoy Humvees intended to fool the Iraqi Air Force. On the other hand, Amaq Agency claimed a minefield destroyed at least one Iraqi armored vehicle at the al-Adayah crossroads southwest of Mosul.

On Friday evening, the Iraqi Army's Federal Police Force also entered the large town of Hammam al-Alil, south of Mosul, according to Major General Thamer al-Husseini.

Furthermore, the Iraqi Army's special forces and Nineveh Protection Units (Assyrian paramilitary) are pushing hard to infiltrate the Islamic State's second line of defence in the eastern suburbs of Mosul city.

Rooshun helo crash lands in Homs
[AlArabiya] The Russian military says one of its helicopters in Syria has come under rebel fire and made an emergency landing, but no crew members were hurt.

The military's Reconciliation Center in Syria says the helicopter came under fire Thursday in the province of Hama while on a mission to deliver humanitarian aid and made an emergency landing about 40 kilometers northwest of the city of Palmyra.

It says the landing site came under rebel fire, but the crew was unhurt. A rescue helicopter quickly arrived to evacuate the crew to the Hemeimeem air base in Syria's coastal province of Latakia used by the Russian military.

Russia has lost four helicopters in Syria, where it has waged an air campaign in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces.

    Shibir-run website incites Nasirnagar attacks

...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...

... the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh...
are among the bad boy groups inciting communal attacks on Hindus in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria using unauthorised websites and Facebook pages.

When the local radical groups were using mosques to unite Moslems in Nasirnagar last week, a little known website named www.banglamail71.com drew huge traffic all of a sudden after they published a provocative content on the alleged blasphemous Facebook post shared from the timeline of an illiterate Hindu youth, Rasraj Das.

The content, published as a news item, was originally posted by "Noyon Chatterje," a Facebook profile that has long been instigating hatred against Hindus in Bangladesh and India.

Banglamail71 logoThe news item has been shared more than 10,000 times so far, and over 170 readers made indecent and infuriating comments on the website. The item also contains the link to a Facebook profile from where the post, showing Lord Shiva sitting atop the Kaaba, was shared several times last month.

Dhaka Tribune has learnt that the website is run by Chhatra Shibir activists. The news item was seen on the website yesterday when fresh attacks were launched on Hindus in Nasirnagar, burning at least six houses to ashes.

After October 30, temples and Puja pavilions were vandalised and looted in at least seven districts.

Jamaat sources confirm that it is a tactical decision of the party high-command not to wage any street protests over issues that go against the government.

For this, they are using the internet to carry out organizational activities by opening news websites, and creating Facebook pages and groups with the help of their tech-savvy members to embarrass the government and create panic among the religious minorities and war crimes trial campaigners as well as to give message to the party supporters.

'Voter fraud'? California man finds dozens of ballots stacked outside home
[FOXNEWS] Jerry Mosna was gardening outside his San Pedro, Calif., home Saturday when he noticed something odd: Two stacks of 2016 ballots on his mailbox.

The 83 ballots, each unused, were addressed to different people, all supposedly living in his elderly neighbor’s two-bedroom apartment.

"I think this is spooky," Mosna said. "All the different names, none we recognize, all at one address."

His wife, Madalena Mosna, noted their 89-year-old neighbor lives by herself, and, "Eighty people can’t fit in that apartment."

They took the ballots to the Los Angeles Police Department, but were directed to the post office. They felt little comfort there would be an investigation, and called another neighbor, John Cracchiolo ‐ who contacted the Los Angeles County Registrar's office.

A spokeswoman for the Registrar said the office will investigate. Both Cracchiolo and Jerry Mosna told FoxNews.com they think they stumbled upon a case of fraud.

2 Former Chris Christie Aides Found Guilty On All Counts In 'Bridgegate' Trial
[NPR.ORG] Two former allies of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie have been found guilty of all nine counts against them in connection with the "Bridgegate" scandal.

The case involved a scheme to intentionally cause traffic problems on the George Washington Bridge in September 2013, as political retaliation against a mayor who did not endorse Christie for re-election. A total of four former top Christie aides have now either pleaded guilty or been found guilty of federal crimes -- three of them related to Bridgegate.

The two former aides found guilty on Friday were Bridget Kelly, who was Christie's deputy chief of staff, and onetime Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni.

The seven charges and nine counts against them included conspiracy and fraud.

Kelly wept silently as the verdict was announced, WNYC's Matt Katz reports, while Baroni smiled and hugged his family.

Their sentencing is set for Feb. 21, and they will be on probation until then, Katz says.

WNYC reports that the two could face sentences of up to 86 years in prison.

Islamic State burns oil wells to defend Mosul, Oxfam says
    [NEWS.SKY] Retreating Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
    forces in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
are setting oil wells ablaze to slow the advance of Iraqi forces, charity Oxfam has said.

The UK charity said thousands of families are forced to live in what it called a "smoke-filled hell" with scant access to clean water in villages and towns around Mosul.

US-backed Iraqi and Kurdish forces have been closing in on Mosul since they launched an offensive last month to recapture Iraq's second-largest city and last IS stronghold in the country.

Oxfam said IS set 19 oil wells on fire in the Qayarrah area, south of Mosul, as they were pushed northwards by Iraqi forces.

Michigan GOP Operative: ‘Trump Is Rocking and Rolling Here’
[BREITBART] Top Michigan Republican operative Jamie Roe tells Breitbart News that, based on his internal polling and the mood of the state’s voters, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is about to win Michigan’s 16 electoral votes.

"Trump is rocking and rolling here," said Roe, who after working on Capitol Hill returned to Macomb County, Michigan to start his own consulting firm, Grand River Strategies. Roe and his partner are working on three Michigan congressional races, a state Supreme Court justice race and two county-wide contests.

"I was at a Trump rally in Warren, right down the street from me here Monday‐he packed them in and enthusiastic crowds like you’ve seen everywhere else," he said.

The former congressional chief of staff said polls done for a client running for Congress in Macomb County had good news for the New York City developer.

"In Macomb County, Trump is winning big," he said. "Trump’s number are great, they are great. I would say double-digits. If you look at the public that’s been put out from Macomb County, every one of them shows Trump with a big lead."

#2  I've given up on the polls - two days ago they had CO +6 for Clinton; Drudge now has it tied, as it is in PA (PA?). If I don't trust the national media's stories, I'm not gonna trust their polls, either.

Nigeria Frees Muslims Accused of Murder over Blasphemy
[AnNahar] A court in northern Nigeria has freed five Moslem men accused of killing an elderly Christian woman for allegedly blaspheming the Prophet Mohammed.

The court in the city of Kano discharged the five men on Thursday on the legal advise of the prosecution.

"The legal advice presented to the court, dated June 24, states that there is no case to answer as the suspects are all innocent and orders the court to discharge all the suspects," the judge said in his ruling.

The five men were accused, along with six others who are on the run, of killing 74-year-old Bridget Abahime on June 2 after she allegedly insulted the Prophet Mohammed.

The suspects had pleaded not guilty
    "Wudn't me."
    of the charge.

The victim, an ethnic Igbo trader from the southeast and wife of a pastor, was beaten to death, sparking outrage across the country with President Muhammadu Buhari calling the killing "utterly condemnable".

Northern Nigeria is predominantly Moslem while the south is largely Christian and Kano city has been plagued by religious violence in the past.

In one notorious case in 1996 a trader, also an ethnic Igbo Christian, was beheaded by suspected Moslem youths who accused him of desecrating the Koran. His severed head was hoisted on a spike and paraded around the city.

    -Lurid Crime Tales-
Reporter, Rolling Stone Responsible For Defaming U-Va. Dean With Gang Rape Story
[WASHINGTONPOST] A federal court jury decided Friday that a Rolling Stone journalist defamed a former University of Virginia associate dean in a 2014 magazine article about sexual assault on campus that included a debunked account of a fraternity gang rape.

The 10-member jury concluded that the Rolling Stone news hound, Sabrina Rubin Erdely, was responsible for defamation, with actual malice, in the case brought by Nicole Eramo, a U-Va. administrator who oversaw sexual violence cases at the time of the article’s publication. The jury also found the magazine and its parent company, Wenner Media, responsible for defaming Eramo, who has said her life’s work helping sexual assault victims was devastated as a result of Rolling Stone’s article and its aftermath.

The lawsuit centered on Erdely’s 9,000-word article titled "A Rape on Campus," which appeared online in late November 2014 and on newsstands in the magazine’s December 2014 issue. Opening with a graphic depiction of a fraternity gang rape, the story caused an immediate sensation at a time of heightened awareness of campus sexual assault, going viral online and ripping through the U-Va. community.

Russian drones observe every move Islamist rebels make in Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] All hell is expected to break loose in Aleppo city shortly after local rebel factions refused to evacuate or let any civilians leave besieged rebel-held districts today. A Russian humanitarian pause ended moments ago which effectively would grant the Russian Air Force the green light by the Kremlin to bomb gunnies hiding in the city again.

Pamphlets distributed in eastern Aleppo reveal holy warrior groups would only allow residents to exit into government-held Aleppo if they paid 60,000 Syrian pounds (roughly 300 dollars) to "support the Mujahideen". With unemployment rampant due to war, hardly any civilians are able to afford the payment, effectively reducing them to human shields.
