Trump: The Hail Mary Pass That Connected
h/t Instapundit
...Folks, this was so close to the end, I could almost see the bottom. A 1% demographic shift would have delivered this whole thing to Hillary. I felt we were a hair’s breadth from Kurt Schlichter’s People’s Republic, where Civil War or Venezuelan-level corruptocracy were the only possibilities left for America.

Love or hate Donald Trump, he saved us from that, at least. For awhile, anyway.

A lot of us on the Right didn’t like him. Many still don’t. But that matters not. What does matter is that we have some time, and we need to use every second of it, because we won’t get another chance. This is it, the final chance to turn the Titanic around before the iceberg.

Trey Gowdy "Seriously Considered For ATTORNEY GENERAL" (VIDEO)
[American Lookout] Today on Fox Business, Charlie Gasparino reported on the latest candidates for positions in the Trump Administration.

Chris Christie and Rudy Giuliani have already been put out there as possible candidates for Attorney General.

Now, there’s a new name.

Trey Gowdy is being "seriously considered for Attorney General."

Trey Gowdy grilled James Comey and Hillary Clinton over Benghazi and Hillary’s private email server. He’d be a great Attorney General!

Government
Suddenly, Democrats are uncomfortable with Executive Power
[Politico] Prepare for an imperial presidency.

Donald Trump has pledged to "reform the entire regulatory code," to "cancel immediately all illegal and overreaching executive orders," and to place a "temporary moratorium on new agency regulations that are not compelled by Congress or public safety."

On the chopping block will be regulations to address climate change (which he’s labeled a Chinese hoax); to implement Obamacare ("a disaster"); and to rein in Wall Street ("We’re too involved in regulation of the banks"). Gone, too, will be President Barack Obama’s executive actions protecting the children of undocumented immigrants and tightening restrictions on gun sales.

The GOP’s continuing majorities in the House and Senate will clear the decks for any legislation the president-elect proposes, but Trump is impatient to assert his presidential authority ("I alone can fix it") and to dismantle much of Obama’s agenda with the stroke of a pen.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Tuesday that Obama will try to persuade Trump when they meet Thursday to limit the reversals to preserve continuity.
Con't.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan suicide bomb kills at least four at Bagram airbase
[Guardian] At least four people have been killed and 18 wounded after a Taliban suicide bomber dressed as a labourer blew himself up at a Nato airbase in Afghanistan.

The attacker was reportedly standing in a queue with labourers at Bagram airfield north of Kabul on Saturday when he detonated the explosives.

"An explosive device was detonated on Bagram airfield resulting in multiple casualties," the Nato-led mission to Afghanistan said in a statement. "Response teams at Bagram continue to treat the wounded and investigate the incident."

Waheed Sediqqi, a spokesman for the Parwan provincial governor, said the bomber detonated a suicide vest after entering the heavily protected site, the largest US base in the country.

Sediqqi said four people had been killed and 18 wounded. There was no immediate word on the identity of the victims.

The attack, responsibility for which was claimed by the Taliban, underlines the foreign policy challenge that will face US president-elect, Donald Trump, when he takes office in January.

#3  Two U.S. service members and two American contractors were killed by a suicide bomber early Saturday on Afghanistan's Bagram Airfield, the U.S. military said. Sixteen American troops and one Polish soldier were wounded in the blast.

The attack was carried out by "an apparent suicide bomber," Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Saturday in a written response to the incident. It occurred around 5:30 a.m. local time. NBC News reported the explosion struck as military personnel and others were gathering for a "fun run" organized in conjunction with Veterans Day, a detail that is certain to raise questions about the Americans' security posture at one of the few remaining U.S. installations in Afghanistan.

Government
$222 Billion: Government Collects Record-High Taxes in First Month of FY 2017
[Free Beacon] Inflation-adjusted federal tax revenues hit a record $222 billion in the first month of fiscal year 2017, but the federal government still ran a $44 billion deficit during that time, according to the latest monthly Treasury Department statement.

Treasury receipts include tax revenue from individual income taxes, corporate income taxes, social insurance and retirement taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, customs duties, and other miscellaneous items.

In the first month of fiscal 2017, the amount of taxes collected by the federal government outpaced the first month of all previous fiscal years, even after adjusting for inflation. The 2017 fiscal year begins on Oct. 1, 2016 and runs through Sept. 30, 2018.

The federal government collected $221,692,000,000 in the first month of fiscal year 2017. Last October the government collected $211,046,000,000 in inflation-adjusted revenues.

Most of the $221 billion came from individual income taxes, which comprised more than half of that total, totaling $121 billion.

Although the federal government brought in a record of approximately $221 billion in revenue in the first month of fiscal 2017, according to the Treasury, it also spent approximately $265 billion, leaving a deficit of approximately $44 billion.

-Land of the Free
Trump to Support Nationwide Concealed Carry
[PJ] Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump -- who said he has a concealed carry permit -- called for the expansion of gun rights Friday, including making those permits applicable nationwide. In a position paper published on his website Friday afternoon, Trump called for the elimination of gun and magazine bans, labeling them a "total failure."

"Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own," Trump wrote.

It's not a departure from what he's said on the trail this year, though it does mark a shift from a position he took in his 2000 book "The America We Deserve," where Trump stated that he generally opposes gun control but that he supported a ban on assault weapons and a longer waiting period to get a gun.

"Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like 'assault weapons', 'military-style weapons' and 'high capacity magazines' to confuse people," Trump wrote Friday. "What they’re really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans."

Liberals have long argued that guns should be regulated like automobiles. So what's not to like?

Trump said in the paper he has a concealed carry permit. The permits, which are issued by states, should be valid nationwide like a driver's license, Trump said. "If we can do that for driving -- which is a privilege, not a right -- then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege," Trump said.

Trump just called their bluff. Hoo boy.

Kosovo holds ISIS suspects over plot to attack Israel soccer match, commander sought
[Ynet] Kosovo-born Lavdrim Muhaxheri named as the ISIS-affiliated terrorist commander who planned a multi-pronged attack that also would also have attacked Israelis competing in Albania soccer game.

Lavdrim Muhaxheri, known by his nom de guerre Abu Abdullah al Kosovo, is the ISIS leader behind the terrorist organization that sought to attack Israeli players at the World Cup qualifying soccer game in Albania on Saturday.

In recent years, he has been active in Syria and Iraq with different terrorist organizations, and he recently has been planning a series of attacks in the Balkans.

Israel's Counter Terrorism Bureau issued a travel warning on Tuesday urging Israelis not to attend a World Cup qualifying game in the city of Elbasan in Albania on Saturday after four ISIS-affiliated suspects were tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in the country who were allegedly targeting the game.

Four Moslem suspects were arrested last week in the city of Shkodër, which was the original host city of the Israel-Albania World Cup qualifying game. According to Albanian security forces, the four suspects were arrested following a tip from the Israeli Mossad.

Intelligence researcher Ronen Solomon from the Intellitimes blog traced the terrorist infrastructure that, according to him, is headed by Muhaxheri, a Kosovo citizen who went to Syria for the first time in 2012 after having earlier served in NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
in Afghanistan. There he joined Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
, al-Qaeda's branch in Syria.

A year later, he returned to Kosovo, where he joined the activities of the local Islamist community and began recruiting myrmidons. Later, like many others, he left al-Nusra and joined ISIS. There, according to assessments, he is a commander of Albanian fighters. Many hundreds of fighters have come to ISIS from the Balkans.

This week, Kosovo prosecutors revealed that security forces arrested seven persons on Friday on suspicion of planning to carry out terrorist attacks on Balkan soil on instructions from Syria. Prosecutors also claimed that the suspects, who were arrested in three different cities, had connections in neighboring countries that include Albania and Macedonia.

What is common amongst all seven is their connection to Muhaxheri. "During September and October, he gave them instructions for the attacks," the prosecution claimed.

They added that the attacks were supposed to be carried out in the Balkans but were to start in Kosovo. "They wanted to create a foothold in the region for ISIS, and one of them had already spent some time fighting for the organization in Syria."

Solomon's investigation revealed that in October 2013, Muhaxheri was documented for the first time in ISIS operations and appeared in their videos, including beheading ones. In one video, he is filmed saying, "We will conquer Jerusalem, Jews."

In August 2014, his name was added to Interpol's wanted list, and since then he has been wanted for terrorist acts and belonging to the organization. In 2015, he was seen in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, and his current location is unknown.

It seems that the arrest of the four members of the Albanian organization took place at the height of their planning, according to assessments, for an operation that was to be carried out simultaneously in different locations in the Balkans.

According to the investigation, another major player in the organization is a local radical holy man who is also under arrest. He has made videos that he posted to YouTube and Facebook accounts in Albanian that are identified with ISIS.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel sees first significant rise in terror attacks this year
[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet records a total of 153 terror-related incidents in October, with nearly a third occurring in Jerusalem.

The number of terrorist attacks recorded in Israel increased last month by almost 30 percent over September -- the sharpest rise recorded in any given month over the past year.

The Shin Bet recorded a total of 153 attacks in October, with nearly a third occurring in Jerusalem, compared to 109 attacks in September, according to the security agency’s monthly report, which it published on its website earlier this week.

The 29% increase in attacks -- the largest since the near tripling of incidents recorded in October 2015 -- owed partly to a near doubling of incidents in the Israeli capital to 48 last month from 26 in September. The October tally for Jerusalem has more than tripled since August, when 13 attacks were recorded there.

The attacks last month resulted in two fatalities and 23 injuries among victims, according to the Shin Bet. Both killings occurred on Oct. 9 during a drive-by shooting in the West Bank that also injured 10. Despite the rise, the tally for October is still lower than the average of 170 attacks per month over the past year.

The Shin Bet reports do not include dozens of incidents of rock throwing that occur every month, mainly in the West Bank.

On Thursday, a protest march commemorating the 12th anniversary of the death of Paleostinian leader Yasser Arafat erupted into festivities with Israeli forces as the demonstrators headed to the Ofer detention center. Four Paleostinians were maimed and two were detained, according to Ma’an.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Love Is Patient: Rare Snail Finally Meets Mate Willing to Accept His Differences
OK, a feel-good article for our inner-lefty.
To the human eye, Jeremy doesn't look that different from most snails, but to other snails he is rather unique.

Due to a genetic mutation, Jeremy's shell swirls counterclockwise and his sex organs are located on the left side of his head, the opposite arrangement of most snails. According to NPR, this rare "lefty" look has made it nearly impossible for Jeremy to find a mate, because his sex organs don't align with those of other snails.

Luckily, Jeremy found a friend in Angus Davison of the University of Nottingham, who is working with a team to find out what gene creates this one in 100,000 anomaly. One of the best ways to do this is to study Jeremy's offspring. But first the snail has to have offspring, which requires another counterclockwise snail.

To find a mate for the lovelorn snail, Davison asked the public for help on Twitter, attaching the hashtag #snaillove to his plea.

"We didn't really know how big a hope it would be, or the chances of success, to find one," Davison told NPR about his "shellebrity." "But it worked -- we found two."

The two lucky ladies belong to snail enthusiasts who saw the tweet; one is named Lefty and is the pet of a Ipswich, U.K., woman, and the other was found by a snail farmer in Majorca, Spain, who discovered the rarity in a pile of snails about to be cooked.

So far, Jeremy has just met Lefty. The pair seems to be on the road to mating, a bizarre process for snails.

Snail mating first starts with some flirtatious biting, followed by "traumatic insemination," in which each snail stabs the other with "love darts." Since snails are simultaneous hermaphrodites, both female and male at the same, both of the snails produce offspring after this act.

This sexual makeup also allows snails to reproduce with themselves, but inbreeding is often avoided.

Once Jeremy and Lefty (hopefully) mate, the research team is interested in seeing if they will produce counterclockwise-shelled "children." Answers to what cause this genetic mutation could go on to help scientists understand physical symmetry in a variety of animals, humans included.

More good news for Jeremy: regardless of the outcome with Lefty, Davison's team plans to introduce Jeremy to the Spanish snail as well.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Claims Its New Anti-Stealth Radars Can Detect the F-22
China showed off what it claims is an anti-stealth radar system at this month's Zhuhai Air Show. If true, the radar threatens to undo hundreds of billions in U.S. spending on stealth warplanes.
Depending on the tactics employed, perhaps.
China showed off two anti-stealth radars at Zhuhai. The first, the JY-27A 3-D long-range surveillance/guidance radar, is a Very High Frequency (VHF) radar that, according to Shephard Media, is the Chinese military's first active-phased array radar. VHF radars, with their longer wavelengths, are more likely to detect stealth aircraft, and it's been known that China has been working on them for some time now.
Didn't Russia have them long ago, but they were the size of a football field and not portable? Looks like they've miniaturized them. They're the size of a barn now it seems.
Phased-array radars, unlike traditional "dish" radars, are flat panels composed of hundreds of smaller transmit/receive panels. While traditional radars are like turning on a flashlight in a dark room--everyone can see where the beam of light is coming from--phased array radars are more difficult to detect. They're also less susceptible to jamming.
Can you home on them?
The article states "There are unverified claims that the radar can pick up hostile stealth fighters at ranges of up to 500km (310 miles.)" If so, that would out-stick American stealth aircraft, revealing them before they could get into a fight.
Can they be spoofed? Heh heh, thought so.
Another anti-stealth radar on display at Zhuhai was the JY-26 Skywatcher-U. This radar works in a broader bandwidth, in VHF and Ultra-High Frequency bands. According to Shephard Media, it has a range of 310 miles and can track up to 500 targets at once. Intriguingly, it claims that while under development in Shandong, China it was able to track American F-22 Raptors flying over South Korea.
They certainly weren't F-35s.
If this is true, the U.S. military could be in big trouble. The Pentagon has spent hundreds of billions on stealth technology over the past thirty years, on everything from the F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighter to the B-2 bomber and the F-22 Raptor. The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter project is estimated to cost everyone involve more than a billion dollars. All of those planes could have been a lot cheaper if not for the hard work of making them stealth, and if that advantage turns out to be useless that is a ton of money mostly wasted.
Maybe. But fear not, this can be countered by pouring trillions of dollars into wind-powered wood-laminate aircraft.
While China's claim of detecting the F-22 sounds impressive, there is one awfully big caveat to go along with it. F-22 Raptors did briefly visit Osan Air Force Base in South Korea on February 17th, 2016. However, they were fitted with external fuel tanks that allowed them to easily make the trip from Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa to Osan. Large drop tanks hanging off their wings would have ruined their stealthy profile, making them much more visible to radar, so it's not entirely surprising that a radar would have detected them.

Does this mean stealth is dead? Not every radar is a VHF radar, and stealth is still useful against radars that are not VHF. Stealth also likely decreases the range at which radars such as Skywatcher can acquire targets. Stealth is part of the package of essential features of a modern combat aircraft, as important as electronic countermeasures, radars, or and defensive systems. Stealth, whether anyone likes it or not, is here to stay.

#1  ...IIRC - and I will cheerfully admit to error - VHF radars are better at tracking stealthy aircraft than standard radars, but not perfect. And they really only work at all if the stealthy aircraft is obliging enough to fly in at altitude presenting its largest cross-section.

If, on the other hand, the stealth pilots don't cooperate, they may well give the radar crews just enough time to mutter the Mandarin equivalent of, "Oh, sh-

#7  This has been around for a long time.

These radars have a very long wave and while it can detect stealth aircraft in some aspects, it isn't very good at tracking them accurately and can't guide in a missile.

They detect a stealth aircraft out... there... somewhere towards the north. Only then do they send lots of other normal radars to the area to try to pick it up and kill it.

So far they are unproven in battle, but the good thing about it is a HARM missile can be dispatched to dispatch the radar.

#9  Of course current stealth technology will be overcome by sensor technology. Think of it as armor vs warhead. The next step in stealth may well be active stealth that sends a counter signal back to the source. If it isnt here already

Syrian rebels capture 50 localities from ISIS in Raqqa
Raqqa – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have liberated more than 50 villages and farms from ISIS since the start of the battle for Raqqa last Sunday, military sources reported on Friday.

Also, the SDF on Friday captured the town of al-Hurriya in northern Raqqa, while the forces started to move into the Haysha town–which represents the main ISIS stronghold in northern Raqqa.

The SDF troops have cleared dozens of villages in the area stretching from the towns of Suluk to Ain Issa, in northern Raqqa, as the first phase of the Euphrates Wrath Operation nears completion.

The SDF forces now control an area measuring approximately 25 km² of Raqqa Governorate, pushing ISIS back into the key city of Raqqa.

SDF Field Commander Egid Gabani told ARA News that their forces have liberated most of the villages in the northern countryside of Raqqa.

“Our forces have advanced with a depth of 25km into Raqqa, liberating most of the villages in the northern countryside. ISIS is only present in the Haysha town, which is besieged completely by our [SDF] forces. As soon as the roads are cleared of explosives, we’ll storm the final headquarters of ISIS there,” the SDF commander said.

Ibrahim Mihemed, an SDF fighter, told ARA News: “Our specialised teams are now dismantling explosives in the Hisha suburb in order to clear the roads for a further SDF advance.”

Supported by the US-led coalition, the SDF launched on November 6th the Euphrates Wrath Operation to liberate Raqqa–de facto capital of the ISIS self-proclaimed caliphate. The campaign’s ultimate goal is the isolation and capture of Raqqa city.

Noteworthy, SDF factions participating in the Euphrates Wrath Operation include Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), Syriac Military Council, Raqqa Revolutionaries Battalion and Tel Abyad Revolutionary Brigade. These ground forces are being bolstered by the US-led coalition, which is providing air support and advice from US military experts.

After hearing arguments of both sides in the case, the district and sessions judge for Malir, Khalid Hussain Shahani, granted bail to Mr Abidi against a surety bond of Rs50,000.

The court ordered his release from prison after the surety had been furnished and he was set free in the evening.

According to the prosecution, a number of weapons, ranging from sub-machineguns to Kalashnikovs, were found during search of Mr Abidi’s house and he could not provide the licence/permit of a sub-machinegun.

The Grand Turk
Government official dies in bomb attack
[al-Manar] A bomb blast in Turkey’s Kurdish-majority southeast has killed a local government official and wounded at least two other people, authorities said Friday.

The explosion that state-run Anadolu news agency blamed on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) tore through the area near a government building in Derik on Thursday.

The PKK, which has waged a bloody insurgency against the Turkish state since 1984, has resumed attacks on security forces since the rupture of a fragile ceasefire last year.

Muhammet Fatih Safiturk, who served as sub-prefect as well as mayor of Derik, was tasked by the government with running the area as part of a vast effort to replace local authorities suspected of PKK ties.

He “was martyred early Friday by wounds sustained in a PKK terrorist attack on his office a day earlier,” provincial authorities said in a statement.

After the attack security forces apprehended 20 people in the area and they were being held for questioning, Anadolu reported.

Ankara has replaced a string of local elected leaders in the Kurdish majority southeast, which the government says is part of its effort to battle the PKK.

Turkey’s main pro-Kurdish party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), on Sunday said it was pulling out of parliament after nine of its MPs including the two co-leaders were arrested in an unprecedented crackdown.

The arrest on Friday of the MPs, including party leaders Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, added to tensions as Turkey wages a relentless battle against Kurdish militants and deals with the aftermath of a July 15 failed coup.

Security Council (UNSC).

During the briefing to the head of missions, the Foreign Secretary also expressed concern over the increase in frequency and intensity of Indian shelling and firing which has led to the death of at least 26 civilians, said the spokesperson for the Foreign Office in a statement.

The FO statement also added that the heads of missions were made aware of the use of heavy artillery, employed by Indian forces on November 9 in the sectors of Shahkot and Jura along the LoC.

Heavy artillery has been used by the Indian armed forces on the disputed border after a gap of 13 years.

Referring to the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistain (UNMOGIP), the Foreign Secretary reiterated that Pakistain if fully cooperating and providing unrestricted access to the observer mission, however, India has limited the group’s access and is not cooperating.

The heads of mission assured Pakistain that they would convey the concerns to their respective capitals and underscored the need for restraint, observance of ceasefire and dialogue to resolve issues.

The UNSC representatives were informed that the Pak armed forces gave a "befitting reply to Indian aggression".

A briefing over the ceasefire violations was also given by a representative of the Military Operations Directorate.

Why Russia rejected UN Aleppo request
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russia rejected a U.N. request to extend future ceasefires to permit the delivery of aid into Aleppo, as the international organization warned that it was delivering the last remaining food assistance.

Speaking in Geneva, Jan Egeland, the special adviser to the U.N. envoy for Syria, said the last time the over a quarter of million people inside east Aleppo received any humanitarian aid was at the beginning of July.

"The reports we have now from within east Aleppo is that the last food rations are being distributed as we speak. There will not be more to distribute next week. Some families have not had any distributions, families in need of relief, have not had any distributions for several weeks already," Egeland said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday that Egeland had sent a request for longer truces to get aid to the eastern area of the city that still hosts more than a quarter of a million people.

In a statement, the ministry’s front man Igor Konashenkov said it was "against common sense" to extend the breaks in conflict "just for the sake of it, not to bring real help to peaceful civilians, but so that faceless myrmidons can better restore their battleworthiness."

Thinni government involved in plans for Jebel Nefusa police force
[Libya Herald] Plans have been agreed in Zintan between the Beida-based Thinni government and security officials from a number of towns in the Jebel Nafusa to establish a united police force for the area.

Mahdi Labad, the security affairs assistant of the Thinni administration, today agreed the move with Emad Trabilsi, the locally-based head of the Beida government interior ministry’s specialist police forces, and number of security heads from towns in the Jebel Nafusa and neighbouring area. The united police force is to be led by Trabulsi and his specialist police force.

Trabulsi was in Beida and Benghazi last week discussing the idea.

Labad also attended yesterday’s graduation ceremony in Zintan for 750 new coppers. They n included new officers from all over the country, "not just Zintanis" Abdullah Alrabu, a local journalist from Zintan told the Libya Herald.

The ceremony included military parade, a display of martial arts and a fly-past by the air force. Families of graduates were there as well.

It was the fourth batch of police to graduate and the second of this year, but was also the largest.

"The former batch this year had 500 graduates," Abdullah noted.

The Iraqi government has urged the Mosul residents to stay in their homes, as the result many are caught up between both sides.

Some residents in the newly liberated Intisar neighborhood interviewed by Rudaw on Friday complained of lack of fuel and flour while lined up to receive some food items distributed by the Iraqi forces.

Turkey arrests five more HDP officials, German FM to visit Ankara
[RUDAW.NET] Turkish authorities tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
5 officials of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Saturday in a joint operation in Diyarbakir and the capital Ankara over terrorism charges.

The Turkish police raided the houses of two advisers to the HDP MPs in the Turkish parliament over terrorism charges, one of them the adviser to the party’s co-chair Figen Yuksekdag.

This later was followed by arrests of two more HDP advisors, the party’s general advisor and another parliamentary advisor.

The police are now looking for another HDP official to arrest him.

The HDP co-leaders and other party politicians were detained early on last Friday as part of what the Turkish government described as a counter-terrorism investigation.

As of last Saturday nine HDP MPs, including the two co-chairs, have been remanded in jug, three were released on bond and authorities issued arrest warrants for another three. They are facing accusations of terrorism and suspected ties with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
SDF: First phase of Raqqa campaign complete
[RUDAW.NET] The first phase of the Raqqa campaign has been completed, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Friday.

In the first phase of the campaign, the SDF "liberated 50 villages and 50 farms, plus they liberated 150 families and killed 150 ISIS gangsters, and liberated 550 square kilometres of territory," reads an announcement from Simko Derik, a commander of the Wrath of Euphrates operation, posted on the offensive’s Facebook page.

The military operation to retake the Syrian city of Raqqa from ISIS, ousting the bad boy group from their de facto capital, was launched on Sunday on two fronts north of the city, from the towns of Saluq and Ayn Issa, by a coalition of forces fighting under the SDF flag.

The offensive began with 9 brigades, including Kurdish forces, Christians, Turkmens, and many Arab brigades from the Raqqa area.

The United States’ aim is to have a "predominantly Arab and Sunni Arab force" retake the city, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford said earlier this week.

The SDF commander Derik said that the force has completed preparation of four training courses for people from Raqqa wanting to join the SDF. These forces will join the campaign in the second phase of the operation to seize the city.

He added that another kaboom south of Bagdad targeted a grocery market in the Yousifiyah sub-district, killing two civilians and wounding another eight.

No group has grabbed credit for either attacks.

Turkey shuts 370 terror-linked NGOs
Turkey’s Interior Ministry shut down 370 non-governmental organizations on Friday, Anadolu reported.

According to a statement from the ministry, the organizations in 39 provinces were linked to the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the PKK/KCK, the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) and Daesh.

They were closed to protect security and public order, the authorities said. Friday’s step was taken under state-of-emergency legislation, the ministry added.

The Interior Ministry said 153 organizations were associated with FETO while 190 were related to the PKK/KCK. Nineteen associations were connected to the DHKP-C and eight to Daesh.

'Sabri murderers' make startling disclosures during initial interrogation, CTD reveals
[DAWN] Two 'militants' suspected of affiliation with the outlawed Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LJ) disclosed information regarding their motives and modus operandi, a senior Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official told Dawn on Friday.

The two 'LJ murderous Moslems' Ishaq, alias Bobby, and Asim, alias Capri, from Liaquatabad were incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
earlier this week for involvement in 28 cases, including the high-profile murder of renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri, who was bumped off in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
in June.

The CTD's Raja Umer Khattab, officer in-charge of Transnational Terrorism Intelligence Group (TTIG), told Dawn that during an initial interrogation, Capri confessed the men had targeted the famous qawwal as he used to attend majalis in the month of Muharram.

Capri also claimed that Sabri had done a programme on TV channel in which slain activist Khurram Zaki allegedly uttered some questionable words that the qawwal had supported.

According to Khattab, Capri, originally a resident of Karachi's Gulbahar area, shifted to Amjad Sabri's neighbourhood with the intention of targeting him.

The CTD claimed that Capri's two brothers are also faceless myrmidons who are languishing in jails, whereas his third brother was killed in a sectarian attack.

Bobby, considered a ’computer expert,' told the Sherlocks that he had collected material from the internet regarding the activities of the qawwal, Khattab claimed.

According to the CTD, Bobby, considered an 'expert shooter' was the one to hit Amjad Sabri. A resident of Karachi's Orangi Town, Bobby is a Hafiz-e-Koran who joined LJ in 2012, the CTD said.

Two of Bobby's accomplices, along with other murderous Moslems, were killed in an encounter with law enforcement agencies during a deadly terror attack on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport in June 2014.

Home Front: Politix
Trump could easily erase much of Obama's foreign policy legacy
U.S. President Barack Obama's foreign policy legacy rests in part on a foundation of unilateral actions that his successor Donald Trump could reverse with the stroke of a pen.

Due to take office on Jan. 20, Trump, the winner in Tuesday's election, campaigned at times to dismantle Obama's nuclear deal with Iran and to reimpose sanctions Obama eased on Cuba. Trump also disagreed with foreign policy decisions that included the way Obama has deployed troops abroad to combat Islamist militant groups.

In his most notable foreign policy achievements, Obama, a Democrat, used executive authorities that offered a convenient legal path around a Republican-controlled Congress committed to blocking his agenda.

The U.S. Constitution gives a president broad executive powers to enact foreign policy. Both Republican and Democratic presidents have sought to exercise those powers by issuing executive orders, presidential memoranda and what are called findings.

"He (Obama) relied on executive authority to build a foreign policy legacy," said Thomas Wright, director of the Project on International Order and Strategy at the Brookings Institution.

"That is all vulnerable to countervailing executive authority by a Trump administration," Wright said.

Trump said in an October speech that he would "cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama" on his first day in office, without saying who would determine their constitutionality.

Perhaps nowhere has Obama faced more congressional opposition than in his pursuit of the 2015 deal with Iran, which Republicans and some Democrats said put too few restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in return for too much sanctions relief. Trump has vowed to dismantle it, although his statements on the deal have been contradictory. A president may tighten and relax economic sanctions by executive order.

"Anything enacted by executive order can be rescinded by executive order," said Zachary Goldman, a former U.S. Treasury official now at New York University.

Obama drew enough support from Democrats to block a Republican-led resolution rejecting the Iran deal, achieving a political victory but falling short of a consensus.

Trump will have the added advantage of working with a U.S. Senate and a House of Representatives controlled by fellow Republicans. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on Wednesday he hoped Trump would "see how much he can undo the unilateral actions the president took all by himself, which would not require us."
Way to stand next to the man, Mitch...
Breaking with longstanding U.S. policy on another issue, Obama restored diplomatic ties with Cuba in 2015. But facing opposition in Congress to lifting a broad economic embargo, especially from Republicans, he used executive actions to ease some U.S. sanctions.

Obama capped his Cuba efforts last month with a sweeping "presidential policy directive," which also is reversible and sets forth mandates for government engagement, people-to-people exchanges, and greater U.S. business ties. Trump has taken contradictory positions on whether he supports the embargo or not.

Trump could roll back Obama's efforts to create greater transparency about drone strikes. Obama issued an executive order in July requiring annual disclosures about such strikes.

As commander-in-chief, Trump will wield the power to mobilize the U.S. military on short notice and without first seeking approval from Congress. Obama deployed U.S. troops to Iraq, Syria and Libya to help fight the Islamic State militant group by relying on the authority Congress granted President George W. Bush to battle al Qaeda. That same authority would allow Trump to ramp up U.S. deployments in fights against Islamist militants if he chose to do so.

One former U.S. intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the president can approve covert action and needs only to brief relevant leaders in Congress once the operation is under way. Trump's powers, however, are limited.

He pledged to expand the Army, grow the Marine Corps, boost the Navy from 276 to 350 ships and submarines, and raise the number of Air Force tactical aircraft from 1,100 to 1,200. For starters, that would require that Congress scrap government spending caps under the Budget Control Act.

Trump's support for water-boarding, an interrogation technique that simulates drowning, also would meet opposition. Congress last year passed legislation barring the use of waterboarding and other "extreme interrogation techniques" widely considered torture. Obama signed the measure into law last November.

If the place is too bad and all legislative/policy has to conducted in this location then maybe, just maybe on the rare occasion congresscould actually convene they might try and get something done just so they could get the hell out. Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Kremlin: Trump foreign policy close to Putin’s
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Kremlin said on Thursday US President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s foreign policy approach was "phenomenally close" to that of President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
, giving Russia hope that tattered US-Russia relations could gradually be improved.

Kremlin front man Dmitry Peskov, speaking in New York, said he saw incredible similarities between the two men’s foreign policy ideas, and this meant there was a solid basis to start a meaningful dialogue between Moscow and Washington.

Peskov, in the United States for a chess tournament, said he was struck by how similar parts of Trump’s victory speech were to a speech Putin gave in southern Russia last month.

Both men said they would put their own country’s national interests first, but that they would be ready to develop ties with other nations, depending on how ready other countries were to deepen relations themselves.

"They (Putin and Trump) set out the same main foreign policy principles and that is incredible," Peskov said in comments broadcast by Russian state TV’s Channel One on Thursday evening.

"It is phenomenal how close they are to one another when it comes to their conceptual approach to foreign policy. And that is probably a good basis for our moderate optimism that they will at least be able to start a dialogue to start to clear out the Augean stables in our bilateral relations."

With Moscow and Washington now at odds over Syria, Ukraine and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
, Peskov cautioned that it would take a long time before relations could return to a high level, however, because of how far they had been allowed to deteriorate.

"An atmosphere of mutual trust takes years to achieve," he said. "It’s not possible to just declare that there is an atmosphere of mutual trust, especially after such serious damage was done in the last few years to our relations."

Peskov told the TASS news agency separately that Putin was ready to be flexible when it came to mending ties which he wanted to improve, but that there was a limit to his flexibility and that he would need to see some US reciprocity.

Peskov spoke after one of Russia’s most senior diplomats told the Interfax news agency earlier on Thursday that the Russian government had been in touch with members of Trump’s political team during the US election campaign and knew most of his entourage.

ICC plans new Libyan arrest warrants
[Libya Herald] Five years after it last issued indictments, the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has announced it will return to Libya to investigate war crimes. Because of the lawlessness and violence in the country and the ability of perpetrators to act with impunity, Libya would be a priority for the ICC in 2017.

Bensouda told the UN Security Council in New York on Wednesday that she intends to assemble cases for new indictments, some made public and others confidential (or "sealed" ‐ so those indicted only find out they are facing trial when they are tossed in the clink
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in a third country).

As part of this, she explained, her office intends to apply for arrest warrants "under seal as soon as practicable and hopes to have new arrest warrants served in the near future".

With Libya in chaos and violence across the country, Bensouda said: "The situation continues to tank and innocent civilians continue to bear the brunt of the fighting between the warring factions vying for control of Libyan territory. The current state of affairs, in which civilians are victimized, is completely unacceptable."

The court was ordered to investigate Libya by the UN in March 2011, with the anti-Qadaffy uprising at its height, and amid fears that the former dictator was set to carry out massacres of civilians.

In June of that year, three indictments were issued ‐ for Qadaffy, his son Saif al-Islam and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi. In the event, neither man went to the ICC court in The Hague. Saddafi was caught and killed by rebels in Sirte, while Libya failed to hand over either Senussi or Saif after their capture.

The ICC agreed three years ago that Libya could try Senussi itself, who was sentenced to death in July last year by a Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
court, a trial that attracted controversy with human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
groups and UN monitors saying due process was not followed.

Senussi remains incarcerated in a Tripoli prison with the justice system in chaos. Saif remains in Zintan under authorities who are not cooperating with the UN-backed Presidency Council and its Government of National Accord (GNA).

Bensouda’s comments have surprised some observers, because since the June 2011 indictments there have been no further actions by the court, despite civil war breaking out in 2014 and ISIS committing numerous crimes in Libya through 2015. Her decision to investigate ISIS now, as it faces imminent defeat from Misratan-led forces, backed by US air strikes, means it may be too late to find anyone to indict.

[RUDAW.NET] The Commander of Nineveh Operations denied that its forces executed and then drove a tank over an alleged ISIS child soldier as could be seen in a video that went viral on social media on Friday.

The video shows some men in military uniform apparently in a desert who interrogate a terrified child.

One of the men is heard speaking in Iraqi Arabic saying that the child is an ISIS myrmidon , but the child appeals for his release. "Release me," the child says, "I did nothing."

Then one of the men drags him away several meters and puts him in front of a tank.

"How is it ISIS?" a man is heard asking as the child, now completely in front of the tank, seems to have sustained some injuries in both of his legs and is unable to move. Then the tank driver is ordered to run over him, but first one of the men shoots him multiple times.

The video then shows the child flattened as the tank drives over his body.

The video is not in good quality, but it shows one of men in military uniform with badge of a flag apparently in green, white and black, the same colors of the Iraqi flag.

Rudaw cannot independently verify the video, nor can it tell where or when it took place.

"We confirm here that the video belongs to the ISIS mobs and it becomes clear through analyzing the scene which show individuals who wear non-military clothes different from that worn by the Iraqi army," Major General Najim al-Jabouri said in a statement published by the Iraqi War Media Office on Friday night.

"It also becomes clear from the type of the guns as shown in the scene which is the same guns used by ISIS myrmidons. Also confining the video to a limited area is to avoid showing the landmarks of the area." the statement added.

Jabouri said the release of the video comes in the context of what he called "the misleading media," and called on the media, and the rights organizations to first verify such videos before making accusations.

The video comes at a time when a report by the Amnesia Amnesty International on Thursday called on the Iraqi government to investigate reports that "fighters wearing Iraqi Federal Police uniforms tortured and extrajudicially executed residents in villages they captured south of djinn-infested Mosul,"
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in response on Thursday that he holds Amnesia Amnesty International responsible for "endangering the security" of Mosul citizens by publishing "false information" regarding "unlawful killings" in some liberated areas around the city.

"The truth is that they were local residents who killed ISIS myrmidons." Abadi said.

The Iraqi prime minister said reports like this make Mosul residents flee their homes.

Iraqi forces launch new offensive, pushing deeper into Mosul
[RUDAW.NET] After a couple of days of calm, focusing on clearing explosives and pockets of ISIS fighters from liberated areas, Iraqi forces have resumed their push into djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
on Friday afternoon.

"After some days of calm, we launched a new attack this afternoon against the Karkukli neighbouhood," Mountadhar Salem, a commander with the Iraqi counter-terrorism forces, told AFP.

Karkukli is located in eastern Mosul, west of Gogjali where Iraqi forces began their push into Mosul city itself.

Friday is the 26th day of the Mosul offensive.

From ARA News:
Erbil – The US-led coalition said on Friday that ISIS has lost 4 per cent of territory in Iraq, and 2 per cent of territory in Syria with ongoing operations in Raqqa and Mosul.

“This means the group have now lost 56% of the territory they controlled in Iraq in August 2014, and 27% in Syria, as they are continually defeated on the battlefield. Key losses in October include the town of Dabiq in Syria, as well as areas near Ar Ramadi and Hadithah in Iraq,” the US-led coalition said in a statement.

A map released by the coalition showing ISIS areas of influence, indicated ISIS territorial losses —30,000 to 32,000 square kilometres of the territory it had dominated in Iraq and 11,500 to 12,500 square kilometres of the territory it dominated in Syria—since August 2014.

“Daesh [ISIS] probably has a presence and freedom of movement in much of the unpopulated areas depicted on the map, but we cannot determine its level of influence in these areas. These estimates are subject to change because of the dynamic nature of the conflict,” the coalition said.

In the meantime, the US anti-ISIS envoy Brett McGurk said: “ISIS’s ‘caliphate’ is crumbling month-by-month. 56% [of territory] retaken in Iraq. 27% in Syria.”

McGurk added that they are working now on transition after the election of the new president Donald Trump.

“I had the privilege of working with President Bush during the transition to POTUS and now orderly transition begins to new President-Elect,” he said.

“This democratic transition process is what makes our country great & our enemies — ISIS terrorists — will have no chance to breath,” the American envoy said.

“Operations are ongoing now towards Raqqa and Mosul with seventy new airstrikes in the last 48-hours alone.”

Mosul offensive pushing more Iraqi civilians into Syria

Geneva (UN) – Amid the intensification of the military offensive against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq’s Mosul city and the resulting displacement of civilians, the United Nations human rights wing said Friday that it has received reports that Iraqi civilians are also fleeing into Syria, which itself is reeling under a five-year long conflict that has displaced millions of Syrians and left hundreds of thousands trapped in besieged cities.

“We have received reports that Iraqi civilians from rural areas around Mosul city have been arriving in Syrian governorates of Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and al-Hasakah,” Ravina Shamdasani, a spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), told journalists at the UN Office at Genevan Friday.

“They reportedly left, after the Iraqi Security Forces and allied armed groups captured the areas, fearing they would be seen as affiliated to ISIS,” she added.

OHCHR further said it also received reports that several hundred Iraqi civilians are in a “dire humanitarian situation” in Rajm al-Sleibi in the Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah (on the border with Iraq), which is under the control of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

These people include those who have fled the current Mosul fighting and those who had earlier crossed into Syria from Iraq.

Reports have also been received that in the ISIS-controlled Syrian governorate of Raqqa, newly arrived families have been housed at the entrance to Raqqa city, in the neighbourhood of al-Mashlab, which is under the strong control of ISIS.

“We are concerned that [such] ISIS tactics […] endanger the civilian population […] – namely taking civilians hostage and planting improvised explosive devices in civilian houses and residential neighbourhoods,” said Ms. Shamdasani noting possible ground operations by Kurdish and other forces as well as airstrikes by the US-led Coalition.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Syria continues to deteriorate and according to reports, civilians – including women and children – continue to become casualties in air and ground-based strikes as well as lose their lives in want of medical treatment, said the UN human rights arm.

From al-Manar: Iraqi Counter-terrorism Units Enters into Qadesiyya Neighborhood in Mosul
Iraqi anti-terror units managed on Friday to enter into the Qadesiyya neighborhood in the city of Mosul, local media outlets reported.

A security source told Al-Forat News agency the counter-terrorism units are still battling to clear the area from the terrorists of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) takfiri group.

Earlier on Thursday, commander of the anti-terrorism forces, Lt. Gen. Abdul-Ghani al-Asadi, had confirmed that the security forces have a wide experience in dealing with all methods of ISIL terrorist group, adding that ISIL has lost its fighting spirit since several months after losing many of the occupied areas.

“ISIL cannot withstand before the attacks of the Iraqi security forces,” Asadi stressed.

Iraqi forces launched a wide-scale operation to retake Mosul on October 17, with federal and Kurdish regional forces closing in on the city from three sides.

Pro-government forces later began an advance on the town of Tal Afar, which commands the city’s western approaches, with the goal of cutting the Takfiris off from territory they control in neighboring Syria.

Yet more from al-Manar: Elite Iraqi Troops to Resume Mosul Push
Troops of Iraq’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service will resume their offensive against the Takfiri ISIL group in east Mosul on Friday after several days of relative quiet, an officer said.

The battle to retake the city, the insurgents’ last major bastion in Iraq, is now in its fourth week, and while troops have pushed into the built-up area, there are weeks, if not months, of fighting still to go.

“After a few days of quiet, we will start a new attack this afternoon on the Karkukli neighborhood,” Lieutenant Colonel Muntadhar Salem said, referring to an eastern district of Mosul.

“We’ll start this attack from our positions in the Al-Samah neighborhood,” he added.

Iraqi forces launched a huge operation to retake Mosul on October 17, with federal and Kurdish regional forces closing in on the city from three sides.

Pro-government paramilitaries later began an advance on the town of Tal Afar, which commands the city’s western approaches, with the goal of cutting the Takfiris off from territory they control in neighboring Syria.

ISIL overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in June 2014, but Iraqi forces have since regained significant ground.

ISIS used chemical weapons in Qayyara, report
[RUDAW.NET] ISIS Lions of Islam launched chemical weapons attacks on Qayyara in the weeks after Iraqi forces retook control of the town, a new report from Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
confirmed.

The attacks, in September and October, "caused painful burns to at least seven people consistent with exposure to low levels of a chemical warfare agent known as ’vesicants,’ or blister agents," reads the report published Friday.

The town of Qayyara, 60 kilometres south of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, was liberated by Iraqi forces in late August.

Launching the chemical weapons is one of many tactics designed for maximum damage and casualties that ISIS has employed as it loses territory.

As the Lions of Islam retreated from Qayyara, they set at least five oil wells on fire and left crude oil oozing through the town’s streets, burning homes and coughing thick smoke into the air.

In Mishraq, two people died and hundreds were treated for respiratory ailments after ISIS set fire to a sulfur plant in a last stand for that town.

The krazed killer group has famously rigged homes and ordinary objects with hundreds of improvised explosives designed to create havoc for the liberating forces and returning civilians.

"As ISIS fighters flee, they have been repeatedly attacking and endangering the civilians they left behind, increasing concerns for residents of Mosul and other contested areas," said Lama Fakih, Human Rights Watch’s deputy Middle East director.

Reports indicate that ISIS dug trenches in Mosul and filled them with crude oil, ready to set on fire as part of their defence of the city.

In the investigation of the chemical attacks in Qayyara, residents told Human Rights Watch that the attacks occurred when Iraqi forces were in full control of the town and they believed the Lions of Islam were trying to force the civilians to retreat with them.

In the first of three attacks documented by the monitoring group, a projectile landed in the garden of a family’s home on September 21, "oozing a liquid that caused burns and blistering to two family members and two coppers who helped them remove it."

The second attack took place on October 6 when a projectile struck in front of a café, severely burning two fighters in the area.

The third attack, on October 10, saw a refinery worker burned and blistered after a projectile landed in front of a refinery.

An independent expert contacted by Human Rights Watch, Keith B. Ward, concluded that the victims had been exposed to a blistering agent such as sulfur mustard. Further investigation is needed to conclude the agents used in the attacks, the report noted.

The use of such blister agents is a war crime under international law.

This Week in Guns, November 12th, 2016

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Questions have been coming up in online discussions about ammunition prices going down and how fast because of the election of Donald J. Trump.

This is what I tell anyone who asks:

Ammunition prices will likely rise in the short term between now and Christmas because of the holidays. Due to the holidays ammunition manufacturers may slack off production temporarily. Add to that that ammunition goes up during this period because it makes a good Christmas stocking stuffer.

I have been tracking ammunition prices over the last three and a half years, and I have yet to see ammunition price movements due to non-market factors.

If ammunition prices do go down this summer, it will be more likely because of the price of inputs: metals, powder, labor, etc. But make no mistake. The election of Trump will have a real impact on markets, if he is as free market oriented as he has hinted in the past.

California passed a background check law for ammunition this election. It will be interesting to see how the new law is implemented. The last time I went to California was in the early 1990s, when border guards were posted to inspect for agricultural products. Californians will probably ignore the new law and make ammunition buys in other states, the interception of which could involve those border guards.

Nevadans passed a universal background check law for their state, so unless my math is off, they are the ninth state to enact a universal background check law. So, if we see a higher spike in NICS background checks this summer, this new law will be a factor in that higher number.

Maine voters voted down the same law for their state.

To get an idea of how effective the Washington state background check law has been since it was passed in 2014, it is worth noting that none of the five individuals shot in Seattle on election night died.

Seattle passed a gun purchase tax on the heels of the universal background check law, and it seems no one wants to sell guns in Seattle anymore. So projected revenues are probably down, but you wouldn't know it by the way the city government acts.

How good will Trump be for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms? I have my doubts. His opening bid is awfully weak, proposing fixes to a system that can't possibly be fixed. Add to that the fact that government agents ignore the laws that Congress passed, all without the new president making note of that, bodes ill for the 2nd Amendment.

Lastly, I have been guilty of this. If you have read this column for very long, you'll recall my homemade bipod for the Mosin-Nagant rifle. Compared to other bipods, it looked terribly amatuerish. But the bipod improved my aiming on the Mosin, so how stupid looking does it have to be to work? The Mosin doesn't lend itself very well to accessories, although Lord knows it has been tried.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Prices for pistol ammunition were mostly higher. Prices for rifle ammunition were mixed.

VDH: Why Trump Won
[Hoover.org] What was forgotten in all this hysteria was that Trump had brought to the race unique advantages, some of his own making, some from finessing naturally occurring phenomena. His advocacy for fair rather than free trade, his insistence on enforcement of federal immigration law, and promises to bring back jobs to the United States brought back formerly disaffected Reagan Democrats, white working-class union members, and blue-dog Democrats--the "missing Romney voters"--into the party. Because of that, the formidable wall of rich electoral blue states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and North Carolina crumbled.
Pray that it matters that he did.

#3  Preemptive strike would be to announce that Trump demands to know what the real numbers are, not the cooked and crooked kind handed out for years. A lot of firing and a lot of 'I was obeying orders' from the miscreants at the start of the administration among the senior fellows at Labor et al. Then you start with a true baseline. You also have the bat to hammer the media for not investigating themselves the lies pushed out for 8+ years.

#5  Trump rode a huge crest of a wave of disfranchised voters who felt that their party had left them and they wanted someone new outside the beltway. They were ticked off because they felt like their party did not listen to them in 2010 and 2012 after giving them the House and Senate.

Africa North
ISIS cornered but undefeated
TRIPOLI: After a swift initial thrust into the Daesh group’s bastion in Libya, six months on unity government forces still face dogged resistance from militant holdouts cornered in the Mediterranean city of Sirte.

Forces loyal to Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) announced the launch of the battle for Sirte, 450 kilometers (280 miles) east of Tripoli, on May 12.

Within weeks, GNA forces recaptured large chunks of the coastal city that Daesh militants had seized in June 2015 as a staging post for an expansion into North Africa.

But they have failed to dislodge the last pockets of Daesh fighters, holed up in the fiercely-defended district of Al-Giza Al-Bahriya, in a costly battle that has left at least 667 dead and 3,000 wounded in GNA ranks.

“The final assault is being held up... mainly due to the fact that it will result in very intense street fighting and Daesh is determined to defend its positions right down to the last square meter,” Rida Issa, spokesman for the pro-GNA forces, told AFP.

Ethan Chorin, a former US diplomat posted in Tripoli and now a consultant, has another explanation for why the assault, which is backed by American air strikes, has got bogged down.

“Those fighting Daesh in Sirte with Western backing are not all motivated, nor are they highly organized,” he said.

-step approach to the recapture of Sirte to limit casualties, not only in their own ranks but also among civilians “who Daesh are using as human shields” and whose numbers are unknown.

As for Daesh, the militants do not disclose their casualties but Issa gave an estimate of between 1,800 and 2,000 dead.

On Wednesday, the US military announced a resumption of anti-Daesh air strikes in Sirte following a one-week break, as part of an operation launched on Aug. 1 in support of the GNA that has totted up 368 raids

With the militants now encircled in an area of less than one square kilometer, “it is unclear what the impact of (further) airstrikes would be,” said Mattia Toaldo, a Libya expert with the European Council on Foreign Relations.

“The battle has taken longer than expected for a number of reasons: First they have encountered more resistance than expected ... they suffered more casualties and eventually started to feel war fatigue,” he said.

“Most importantly, in the very last stages it has become clear that Daesh holds several hostages, which makes attacking the last buildings they control more tricky.”

Issa said GNA troops could hear “the cries of civilians every time a strike is carried out” but he did not know their number, only that Daesh had entrapped them.

The group’s ouster from Sirte would deal a heavy blow to the militants, who have been left reeling since the start of the year by a string of military defeats in Syria and Iraq.

Those militants left in Sirte appear determined to fight to the death rather than be taken prisoner, often carrying out car-bomb attacks wherever pro-GNA forces are gathered in numbers.

“This is not an easy battle... because we are fighting against an armed radical ideology in which death is an aspiration. We very soon realized the complexity of this battle,” said Issa.

“Such an enemy can only be wiped out once all its fighters are killed. And that’s what we are doing.”

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian gov't, ISIS pilloried for CBR weapons use
THE HAGUE: The executive body of the global chemical arms watchdog has condemned Bashar Assad’s forces and Daesh for using toxic weapons and called for stepped up inspections, sources and officials said.

It is the first time the watchdog has found a state member to have violated the Chemical Weapons Convention, and came during a rare vote by its 41-member executive council, sources who attended the closed session said.

A four-page resolution put forward by Spain voiced “grave concern” over the findings of a one-year investigation by a joint panel of the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), according to a copy seen by AFP.

It “condemns in the strongest possible terms” the use of chemical weapons in Syria and calls on “all parties identified” in the report to “immediately desist from any further use.”

The joint UN-OPCW panel’s report released last month concluded that Assad’s forces had carried out three toxic arms attacks on villages in 2014 and 2015.

Syrian government helicopters flying from two regime-controlled air bases dropped chlorine barrel-bombs on the villages of Qmenas, Talmenes and Sarmin, in rebel-held Idlib province.

Daesh terrorists meanwhile were found to used mustard gas in August 2015 in Syria.

The OPCW resolution pointedly “demands” that Syria “comply fully with its obligations under the convention,” and mandated the watchdog as soon as safely possible to carry out inspections at the site of the attacks.

Based in The Hague, the OPCW usually works by consensus, but after weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations on the text it became impossible to reach unanimity, mainly due to Russian objections, said one source who attended the session.

When it was clear that “an overwhelming majority” supported the resolution it was decided to put it to a vote, the source said.

A total of 28 countries including Britain, France and the US voted in favor of condemning Syria and Daesh, gathering the two-thirds needed to pass, the sources said.

Four countries voted against — China, Iran, Russia and Sudan — while nine countries abstained.

“This decision confirms that the Assad regime and Daesh are responsible for using abhorrent chemical weapons against civilians,” said British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson in a statement after the vote.

“There is a clear determination across the international community to hold those who have used these heinous weapons to account.”

Generation Snowflake: This Was Who Was On the Verge Of Running America If Hillary Had Won

Watch what happens when a protester's balloon pops.

Bonus: This doubles as a metaphor!

According to one commenter, this is an excerpt from a much longer video taken during the usual miscreancy in Paris posted on May 19, 2016. Our girl and her pretty purple balloon show up at about 24:30. No dubbed in, frenzied weeping, but even more stupid. Watch this after seeing charger's main event, and enjoy it twice.

He should appoint Darth Vader (maybe our own DarthVader!), then abolish the fucking place. It was created by Jimmuh Carter in exchange for the NEA's support in the 1976 election. I remember it like it happened yesterday because that's when I first started following politics - I told my father - 'That's horse trading, right?' He said 'Yup'.

Arabia
Houthis’ extravagant lifestyle provokes millions of Yemenis
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Houthis are commonly known these days as "owners of the trucks" in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
because they own the majority of the newest truck models.

Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
fighters are roaming the streets of Sanaa and other regions in these trucks. They are known drive arrogantly at high speeds in order to show their superiority. This has in turn, provoked most citizens because they live in unbearable conditions due to the militias’ practices.

Journalist Mouin al-Najari said that "all those who dare to ask for their salaries, are accused by Houthis of being mercenaries and agents for the coalition". He added that the owners of the trucks do not suffer from hunger and no one dares to talk to them."

Engineer Ali Yahia said that "the owners of these trucks and the thieves controlling our income are telling us that we should be patient because we are at war and that the salary is not necessary... At the same time, there are cases of hunger and suicides; a lot of people are in the streets now begging for money. This era’s rectors are driving the newest models of trucks... If you sell your trucks, I can guarantee that you would be able to pay the salaries for six months."

Qat as a luxury
But it’s not just about the Houthis’ trucks. Teir overindulgence was also depicted by the buildings and luxury villas constructed inside Sanaa since the war began.

Ali Mousleh, employee at the Ministry of Education, told Al Arabiya: "When diplomats left the country and capitalists emigrated along with many former officials, the situation worsened. I thought that famous expensive restaurants will close their doors and declare bankruptcy, but I found out that they are always crowded with armed hard boyz driving the newest truck models."

We can also note the provocative extravagance lifestyle of the militias in the Qat market. Salam al-Sahari, a seller at the Nasr market in the north Sanaa, said that "years ago, the turbans used to buy the worst kind of Qat, while my clients who used to buy the finest Qat leaves, were all officials and well-off employees and intellectuals. However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
it is quite the opposite today."

Iraq
Karemlash Honeycombed with Underground Tunnels
Mosul- Kurdish Peshmerga fighters have reportedly killed 16 ISIS hardliners in Bashiqa, Nineveh. The militants had been staying at a city hideout, awaiting the opportunity to make it past Peshmerga checkpoints to join the fight in Mosul.

Iraqi Security Forces units of the 9th Armored Division made an advance towards villages of Abbas Rajab and Al-Nomaniyah, toward Nimrud, the Joint Operations Command said, later announcing that Abbas Rajab had been officially retaken.

Nimrud was the one of the great centers of the ancient Middle East. Founded in the 13th century BC, it became the capital of the Assyrian empire, whose rulers built vast palaces and monuments that have drawn archaeologists for more than 150 years.

Karemlash, an ancient Assyrian town in northern Iraq located less than 29 Kilometers south east of Mosul, recently freed of ISIS-hold by the ISF, has been turned into a minefield.

As Asharq Al-Awsat reporters attempted taking a tour of the former ISIS stronghold, they were accompanied by army detail for both security and guidance.

The dislodged terror group had randomly planted explosive mines throughout the town. Before the ISIS takeover in summer 2014, Karemlash was considered one of the most beautiful towns of Nineveh’s valley in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Villages recaptured from ISIS over the past three weeks by the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi army forces on the road to Mosul have been honeycombed with tunnels, many of them booby-trapped.

ISIS militants had dug an entire network of underground tunnels, which have been used as a safety bunker from coalition air raids – more so the underground passages were also a part of the hardliners’ street fighting strategy against ISF units.

Although ISIS extremists had been successfully driven out of Mosul’s Karemlash, they had left the town in a regrettable and hazardous state. The once Iraqi attraction had been close to burnt to the ground with all the fighting, not to mention the arbitrary minefields that make it all the less safe for civilian life’s immediate return.

In the past three days, commanders say Iraqi forces have faced the hardest fighting of the offensive as they entered Mosul, made worse by extensive tunnels that are allowing ISIS fighters to appear seemingly out of nowhere, attack, then retreat to the hidden bunkers.

ISIS didn’t invent the tactic. Tunnels have been used in warfare for thousands of years, especially valued in asymmetric guerilla war.

In Karemlash, Iraqi Christian militias uncovered cramped earthen burrows used by ISIS fighters to hide from surveillance drones, artillery shells and US-led airstrikes.

The tunnels were dug into a hill that covers an archaeological site of an ancient Assyrian city.

ISIS also commandeered the Saint Barbara convent and dug deep tunnels through the floor of the chapel. The village marks the site where Alexander the Great fought the Persian emperor Darius in 331BC.

Some tunnels go for hundreds of meters. The earth is hard-packed and laced with rocks and the passageways illuminated with electric lights. Iraqi troops have found weapon caches, small kitchens, food pantries and rooms stacked with explosives.

To conceal their digging from drones and satellites, ISIS fighters usually hid the soil.

The longest tunnel discovered so far stretched for almost 10km at the edge of Mosul, according to Iraqi commanders, dug by ISIS cadres with help from civilians probably forced to shovel.

A senior police officer told Dawn that a child was injured in the shootout. Security personnel took the child and a woman, living in the house, into custody and shifted them to Karachi.

Official sources said a large cache of arms and ammunition was seized from the house that Arif had been using as a hideout. "Dozens of hand grenades, AK-47 rifles, rockets and over 1,000kg explosives were seized from the house... They had been packed into four big plastic drums and buried underground," sources told Dawn. The house was being used as a "factory" for improvised bombs.

They said two people had purchased a land in the Goth Dilpul area for one million rupees and two houses and a compound had been constructed on it about three months ago. "The man killed in the encounter had been living at one of the houses with a woman and a young girl for three months."

Arif had criminal masterminded several suicide kabooms in Karachi and Balochistan. Government
No ‘legal reason’ US could not opt out of Iran deal
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iran nuclear deal would fall apart if a US administration walked away from it, as President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has vowed to do, the State Department said Thursday. Iran’s President Hassan Rowhani had argued on Wednesday that the deal ‐ which saw world powers lift sanctions on Tehran in return for controls on its nuclear program ‐ has been enshrined in international law.

The outgoing US administration is proud of the agreement and has no intention of dropping it, but Trump said several times during his campaign that moving away from it will be a priority once he takes power in January.

"Any party ‐ and I’m speaking very hypothetically here, because I don’t want in any way to attempt to hypothesize about what the incoming administration’s going to do ‐ I’m just talking purely about an agreement that any party can walk away from," State Department front man Mark Toner said.

"And that will have profound consequences on the integrity of the agreement." Toner said that the Iran deal was not a legally binding treaty, but that the current US administration believes it is in Washington’s interest to continue it.

Asked whether if the US withdraws support for the deal whether Iran might start building a nuclear weapons program, Toner said: "Yes. That’s the reality of the situation." "This is why we believe it to be in everyone’s interest, including the world’s interest, that if Iran abides by this agreement, and all the parties abide by the agreement, then we have shut-off Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon," he said.

During the election campaign, Trump described the deal as "disastrous" and said it would be his "number one priority" to dismantle it. On Wednesday, Rowhani said: "Iran’s understanding in the nuclear deal was that the accord was not concluded with one country or government but was approved by a resolution of the UN Security Council and there is no possibility that it can be changed by a single government."

Bangladesh
New JMB runs arms smuggling syndicate
[Dhaka Tribune] Using loopholes in border security, the terrorist group New Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) is now smuggling arms into Bangladesh from India, police have said.

Members of the old JMB hiding across the border in West Bengal are the suppliers of these weapons.

The two groups mainly use the Chapainawabganj and Joypurhat borders to bring in the arms, sometimes putting them inside mango baskets and sometimes inside shopping bags.

The weapons originate in Malda and Bihar in India.

Information from the interrogation of four New JMB members in jug and also some Indian arms smugglers had unveiled this criminal network, a senior officer from police Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTTC) unit told the Dhaka Tribune.

The four turbans are Mizanur Rahman, Toufiqul Islam, Abu Taher and Selim Miah, who have revealed quite a few sensational information in interrogation, the officer said.

Ahmedul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of CTTC, admitted yesterday that the police had uncovered some information on this and were analysing them.

The outgoing director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Gen Aziz Ahmed admitted that the force had limited capability to check smuggling of this nature.

"We share a long border with India and we do not have sufficient capacity to check these activities," he said.

"We have information that arms smugglers use sacks of rice or onion in big trucks to bring arms, but we have no vehicle scanners. It is quite impossible to check all these vehicles manually," Maj Gen Ahmed said.

BGB had placed demands to the Home Ministry for better equipment, the DG said.

He pointed out that the lack of cooperation from law enforcement further aggravated the problem.

"BGB members often check trucks manually based on intelligence reports and are sometimes successful in apprehending smugglers. The problem is, we do not got updates from the Sherlocks once we turn the criminals in," he said.

Investigators say most of the arms used by New JMB came from India, even the modern AK-22 rifles. The modified AK -22 came from Bihar and entered Bangladesh through Chapainawbaganj.

CTTC chief Monirul Islam says New JMB brought in the weapons through their own channels.

"The Death Eaters did not take assistance from professional arms smugglers," he told the Dhaka Tribune.

"Although we have information that the AK-22s were modified in India, we are not sure where they were manufactured," he said.

"We are looking into their place of manufacture."

According to Sherlocks, New JMB leader Sagor of Joypurhat, Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mizan of Gaibandha and Mizanur alias Chhoto Mizan worked as arms carriers, bringing the weapons through the border, while former JMB leader Sohel Mahfuz, who currently works for New JMB, looks after the syndicate’s activities in West Bengal.

New JMB leaders Nurul Islam Marjan and Rajib Gandhi handled the arms after they were delivered into Bangladesh by the carriers.

Sanowar Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of CTTC, said: "We have not found any connection between New JMB and any arms smuggler. They basically collect them through their own sources and bring them into Bangladesh through Chapainawabganj border."

According to sources, New JMB leader Shariful Islam, Mamunur Rashid and Junayed Khan have fled to India after the Gulshan attack and joined hands with Sohel Mahfuz there, trying to increase their capacity by collecting firearms.

"We are now trying to go the source of New JMB’s arms capacity and are conducting drives," ADC Sanowar said.

ISIS executes scores in Mosul

GENEVA/BAGHDAD: Daesh fighters have executed scores more people around Mosul this week and are reportedly stockpiling ammonia and sulfur in civilian areas, possibly for use as chemical weapons, UN human rights spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said on Friday.

A mass grave with over 100 bodies found in the town of Hammam Al-Alil was one of several Daesh killing grounds, Shamdasani said, citing information gleaned from sources on the ground including a man who played dead during a mass execution.

Public executions were being carried out for “treason and collaboration” with Iraqi forces trying to recapture the city, or for the use of banned mobile phones or desertion.

People with explosive belts, possibly teenagers or young boys, were being deployed in the alleys of Old Mosul, while abducted women were being “distributed” to fighters or told they would be used to accompany Islamic State convoys, she said.

It said that in another incident, the extremists on Wednesday reportedly shot to death 20 civilians in the Ghabat Military Base on charges of leaking information. Those bodies too were hung at various traffic intersections in Mosul, with notes stating that they had “used cell phones to leak information.”

The reports were the latest evidence of Daesh exactions on civilians as it retreats into dense urban quarters of Iraqi’s second largest city.

The UN human rights office has also cited new details as proof that the Daesh group is using chemical weapons as Iraqi government forces try to oust its fighters from the city of Mosul.

Amid concerns about Daesh’s use of human shields in the city, rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said four people died from inhaling fumes after Daesh jihadists shelled and set fires to the Al-Mishrag Sulfur Gas Factory in Mosul on Oct. 23.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, Shamdasani said reports indicated the terrorists had stockpiled “large quantities” of ammonia and sulfur that have been placed in the same areas as civilians. She said international law requires protection of civilians near such chemicals.

UN officials say about 48,000 people have now fled Mosul since the government campaign began Oct. 17.

Booby traps
Iraqi troops inched have ahead in their battle to retake the northern city of Mosul from the Daesh group on Friday.

Exchanging small arms and mortar fire with Daesh positons, the special forces entered the Qadisiya neighborhood, advancing slowly to avoid killing civilians and trying to avoid being surprised by suicide car bombers, said Brig. Gen. Haider Fadhil.

Regular army troops control 90 percent of the Intisar neighborhood, said one officer, but progress had slowed because “the streets are too narrow for our tanks.” He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters.

Iraqi troops are converging from several fronts on Mosul, the second-largest city and the last major Daesh holdout in Iraq. Kurdish peshmerga forces are holding a line north of the city, while Iraqi army and militarized police units approach from the south, and government-sanctioned Shiite militias guard western approaches.

The Kurdish commander responsible for military operations at the formerly Daesh-held town of Bashiqa said his forces are still working to secure the northern Iraqi town.

Gen. Hamid Effendi told The Associated Press on Friday that large numbers of booby-trapped explosives remain in the town. He estimated the unexploded bombs could number more than a thousand.

He said most of the more than 100 Daesh fighters have been killed in combat, but that injured fighters likely remain in defensive tunnels built by the militants.

Effendi said he hopes the town will be fully secured by Saturday, but it will take longer to clear all the unexploded bombs. For that reason, civilians will not be allowed into the town in large numbers for at least a week.

ISIL Executes 60 Iraqis in Mosul

[Al Manar] Terrorists of the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) takfiri group reportedly shot dead more than 60 people this week and hung some of their bodies from poles after alleging they had collaborated with Iraqi troops, the United Nations said Friday.

The UN human rights office has raised alarm over hundreds of grotesque atrocities allegedly committed by ISIL as Iraqi forces have pushed their nearly month-long offensive to retake Mosul, the last terrorist bastion in Iraq.

“On Tuesday, ISIL reportedly shot and killed 40 civilians in Mosul city after accusing them of ‘treason and collaboration’ with the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF),” rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in a statement, using another acronym for the ISIL.

“The victims were dressed in orange clothes marked in red with the words: ‘traitors and agents of the ISF’. Their bodies were then hung on electrical poles in several areas in Mosul city,” she added.

Abu Saif, a resident of eastern Mosul, told AFP by telephone that he had seen bodies strung up in the city along with signs that read “agent” and “traitor”.

He did not have an exact count of the total number of bodies, but said he saw between 30 and 40.

“The Daesh organisation gathered people in some of the streets of Mosul and publicly executed a number of people of various ages, some of them by gunfire and others by beheading,” he said, using an Arabic name for ISIL.

According to the UN, a 27-year-old man was reportedly killed in public in central Mosul Tuesday for using a mobile phone, which ISIL has banned in areas it controls.

And on Wednesday, ISIL slaughtered another 20 people at the Ghabat Military Base in northern Mosul after accusing them of “leaking information,” the UN statement said.

“Their bodies were also hung at various intersections in Mosul, with notes stating: ‘decision of execution’ and ‘used cell phones to leak information to the ISF'”, the statement added.

All of the killings apparently followed rulings by the so-called “courts” established by ISIL.

Conclusively verifying the details of massacres allegedly perpetrated by the terrorists since the US-backed Mosul offensive began, has been a challenge for UN investigators amid the chaos of the fighting and the threat of reprisals against sources.

Shamdasani said Friday that one recent source was a man who pretended to be dead during a massacre and contacted UN staffers after escaping. She did not specify which incident the man had survived.

The campaign, nearly four weeks old, is the most complex military operation in Iraq in the 13 years of turmoil since the US invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein.

Security forces and army infantry divisions, backed by a US-led air force, are preparing to move on southern and northern districts of Mosul in coming days, to step up pressure on the myrmidons.

Thai militants shoot Buddhist toddler in the stomach
[Kkhaosod] Police on Friday blamed the shooting of a man and his 3-year-old son at their home in southern Thailand on separatist militants.

Prapan Laipraditporn and his son, Peerapat, were relaxing on the front porch of their home when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on them with M16 rifles. The two were later sent to hospital where they’re expected to recover.

Patcharapon na Nakhon, chief of the Takbai police department said, "We believe the incident is related to unrest in the region," referring to the secessionist campaign Muslim insurgents have waged in the far South for over a decade.

Patcharapon believes the rebels targeted Prapan and his son because they are Buddhist civilians and therefore "soft targets".

A bullet grazed Prapan across his back while his toddler son was shot in the stomach, the police chief said, though he said both were making good recovery.

Trump adviser: US to create coalition with GCC
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Walid Phares, one of US President-Elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's foreign policy advisers, has confirmed that the upcoming administration plans on creating a coalition with the GCC, Jordan and Egypt in counter-terrorism efforts.

Phares also confirmed during an interview with the BBC that Trump will plan on recalling the Iran nuclear deal and re-discussing it in congress before resubmitting it to EU partners, clarifying that the next US administration will demand key changes to agreement.

During the campaign, Trump said the Iran deal was one of the worst agreements ever negotiated. In a USA Today op-ed in September of 2015 Trump said, "When I am elected president, I will renegotiate with Iran."

When challenged by the BBC that a coalition between Gulf Arab countries and the US already exists, Phares responded: "We wished it were the case. A lot of Arab diplomats have been telling us that they hoped to have had more active participation with the US in fighting terrorism but the B.O. regime has opposed them saying that they ’did not want them in Iraq and Syria’ in order for the Iran nuclear deal to stick".

#4  A large number of white Americans continue to show racist tendencies. While calls for toler-ance goes on, the influx of immigrants colonists gave a fertile ground for racism and somehow xeno-phobia.

Any examples, buddy? Anyone? Ferris?

That's because the charge is baseless. The left has redefined racism from 'the assertion of superiority of one race over another' to 'any behavior between a white and a non-white we don't like. If it's between a non-white and a white, that's okay'. Fortunately, they've thrown around the racism card like mini-Snickers bars at Halloween, so the charge has been rendered nearly moot. When everything's racism, nothing is.

RFNS Kuznetsov air wing begins flight operations in Syria
[al-Manar] Russia’s aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, has for the first time launched combat jets on flights over Syria, scouting out the city of Aleppo ahead of anticipated strikes.

Its force of Sukhoi Su-33 and Mikoyan MiG-29K strike fighters took to the skies early on Wednesday on what the Russian Ministry of Defense says were scout missions.

The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier is currently in waters between Crete and Syria, accompanied by the nuclear- powered Peter the Great missile cruiser and several other ships and submarines. This is the Russian navy’s largest deployment since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Abu Sayyaf abducts six Vietnamese seamen
[Anadolu] Six people are reported to have been kidnapped by the Abu Sayyaf from a Vietnam-flagged boat in sea-lanes off the southern Philippines. Commander Jerome Cayabyab of the Zamboanga Coastguard Station said that at least ten gunmen had boarded the cargo vessel and seized six people, including five officers, near Sibago Island off Basilan island province early Thursday.

Cayabyab confirmed that among those abducted were the boat captain, chief mate, second and third officer, the ship's petty officer and another able-bodied seaman.

He said the incident took place around dawn, but was reported to the coastguard around 7 a.m. by the captain of a boat that provided initial assistance to those who remained aboard. An injured electrician was shipped to a nearby hospital with an injury to his right arm and was immediately given medical attention. Cayabyab said, "The gunmen shot him when he run as they were about to take him."

Syrian rebels launch new attack on Al-Bab
Beirut- Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters taking part in the Euphrates Shield Operation have reached the entrances of al-Bab city, one of the main ISIS strongholds in northern Syria.

The terrorist organization has prepared its fighters to confront any FSA attack by encircling the city with a large ditch planted with mines, a leading Syrian opposition military officer told Asharq Al-Awsat, saying the upcoming battle is difficult, but would end within 10 days.

A Commander with the Euphrates Shield operation, Mustafa Sijari, said that opposition fighters were now seven kilometers away from al-Bab city, adding their arrival was delayed as a result of the presence of a large number of civilians in the area.

“We have called on them to leave quickly,” he stated.

Sijari told Asharq Al-Awsat: “We know that the battle would not be easy, particularly that the organization uses explosions, and it has completed all the preparations to confront our attack by encircling the city with a large ditch and calling on its top fighters to defend the city.”

Sijari asserted that the Turkish role is limited to offering logistic support. “There are no Kurdish fighters in the operation against the terrorist organization. We, the Free Syrian Army, lead the battle,” he said.

The commander spoke about information confirming that ISIS fighters might hand over the city of al-Bab to regime forces or members from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units in case they feel the FSA are about to control the city.

A German news agency quoted on Thursday sources as saying that opposition fighters had controlled the villages of Sheikh Alwan, Maqale’ al-Boushi and Hadath and were now located on the outskirts of al-Bab city.

Ara News said that armed opposition factions had quickly advanced in ISIS-controlled areas northwest of the countryside of northern Aleppo.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Armed Forces said Syrian opposition forces gained control of the village of Sheikh Alwan of the Al-Rai town.

The statement said two ISIS terrorists were killed during clashes with FSA forces.

It added that the Turkish army has hit 92 ISIS targets and another PKK/PYD target in northern Syria.

months after he handed over a number of the security posts to the Taliban holy warriors.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the police officer was arrested by the operatives of the counter-terrorism directorate.

MoI further added that the officer was arrested from the vicinity of southern Uruzgan province where he handed over the security posts after establishing links with the Taliban earlier in September.

According to MoI, the police officer managed to escape the area after handing the posts, weapons, and ammunition to the Taliban holy warriors.

The detained officer was handed over the attorney general so that he can be tried for his involvement in handing over the security posts and working for the Taliban group, MoI added.

The anti-government armed Death Eater groups including the Taliban forces of Evil have not commented regarding the report so far.

Uruzgan is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban forces of Evil recently launched a major attack to take control of the historic provincial capital of the province.
