Men to America ‐ Thanks for nothing: Glenn Reynolds
Back during the election campaign, a Fiscal Times columnist warned that even as Hillary Clinton played the woman card, more men were being dealt out of American society:
A key indicator of American male decline is the gender ratio at U.S. colleges.

...If men are underrepresented in college, they’re overrepresented in prison, the column continued: "At the end of 2014, almost 93% of inmates in state and federal correctional facilities were male. There were over 1.4 million male prisoners compared with 113,000 female inmates." State and local prisons are also overwhelmingly filled by men.

It’s not much better at work, with a Bloomberg columnist reporting a "war on men in the workplace." Outside of high-end tech jobs, men have worse employment prospects and are more likely to be laid off. In fact, after the financial crisis, there was talk of a "man-cession" because men were hit so much harder than women.

...If we had a college gap that favored men as much as the existing one favors women, it would be treated as a national crisis. If our girls (instead of our boys) attended schools where teachers were overwhelmingly of the opposite sex, there'd be loud demands for government action. And if there were articles with titles such as The End of Women running in major national magazines, their tone would be alarmist, not smug.

Maybe it’s time for a Presidential Task Force on Men and Boys. Before things get worse.

And not just in USA

Florida Woman Accused of Shooting at House Guests Who Stayed Too Long
A Florida woman who thought her house guests overstayed their welcome was arrested after she shot one of them, authorities said.

Alana Annette Savell, 32, was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, Bay County Sheriff's Office officials said.

A woman told authorities that she had gone to Savell's home with a friend. Savell said they started drinking and were getting too loud, and said she didn't want them in her home.

Savell armed herself with a handgun and started shooting at their feet from the doorway of the home, Paleo? officials said. The woman was hit in the legs and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Savell's boyfriend was also hit in the leg with a bullet during the shooting, authorities said.

Trump taps billionaire investor Wilbur Ross for commerce secretary
[AP] WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wilbur Ross, the billionaire investor considered the "king of bankruptcy" for buying beaten-down companies with the potential to deliver profits, is President-elect Donald Trump's choice for commerce secretary, a senior transition official said.

The official isn't authorized to publicly discuss the matter and requested anonymity.

Reputed by Forbes to be worth nearly $3 billion, Ross would represent the interests of U.S. businesses domestically and abroad as the head at Commerce. His department would be among those tasked with carrying out the Trump administration's stated goal of protecting U.S. workers and challenging decades of globalization that largely benefited multinational corporations.

With a Florida home down the road from Trump's Mar-a-Lago retreat, the 78-year-old Ross played a role in crafting and selling the president-elect's tax-cut and infrastructure plans. Ross has suggested that much of America is disgruntled because the economy has left middle-class workers behind and says Trump represents a shift to a "less politically correct direction."

"Part of the reason why I'm supporting Trump is that I think we need a more radical, new approach to government -- at least in the U.S. -- from what we've had before," Ross told CNBC in June, referring to Trump's blunt tone and sweeping promises to reinvigorate economic growth.

I don't know about that; I'd rather they get rid of some of government just to be sure. Both would be even better.

UK's Bletchley Park to soon begin new cyber training mission
[Reuters] It was once the home of Britain's codebreakers during World War Two. Now more than 70 years later, Bletchley Park is preparing to host the UK's first national college of cyber education, with a first intake of students starting in September 2018.

Work is under way to revamp several derelict buildings on the site where mathematician Alan Turing cracked Nazi Germany's "unbreakable" Enigma code.

The new school for 16- to 18-year-olds, which will sit beside the historical attraction and the National Museum of Computing, will take 100 students in its first year. Forty percent of their curriculum will consist of cyber studies.

The plan for the school, which will be part publicly and part privately funded, was unveiled by Qufaro, which calls itself a not-for-profit body formed by cyber security experts, as part of an initiative to establish a UK national cyber security hub.

"Bletchley Park we felt was a natural home for a cyber security college because it's building on the innovation and the work that took place in the Second World War, bringing it up to date and making it relevant again," said Tim Reynolds, deputy chairman of the National Museum of Computing and a director of Qufaro.

Pakistani air force chief warns India against full-scale war...
...The problem here is that the Indian military will hand the Paks their a$$ in about three days, and then the Paks will have a choice: fold or go nuclear. Place your bets, please...
ISLAMABAD ‐ Pakistan's air force chief on Thursday warned archrival India against escalating the dispute over Kashmir into full-scale war, urging New Delhi to exercise restraint.

Marshal Sohail Aman's warning came as tensions are soaring between Islamabad and New Delhi over the contested Himalayan territory where Pakistan said Indian fire on Wednesday killed 12 civilians and three soldiers -- the deadliest incident in weeks of border clashes.

Aman said that if Indian forces escalate the crisis, Pakistani troops "know full well how to deal with them."

On a visit to Islamabad, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson held talks with his Pakistani counterpart, Sartaj Aziz.

Afterward, Johnson expressed concern over the Kashmir escalation and appealed to the two South Asian countries "to maintain a positive dialogue" to resolve the dispute of the territory, which is split between Pakistan and India and claimed by both in its entirety.

The two neighboring countries have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir, which remains one of the world's most intractable conflicts.

In Wednesday's escalation, Indian artillery and shelling hit several villages along the Line of Control that divides the Pakistan- from India-controlled sector of Kashmir, killing 12 civilians. Three Pakistani soldiers were later also reported killed in an exchange between the two sides.

The exchange came a day after the mutilated body of an Indian soldier was found in Kashmir. The Indian military did not say whether the soldier was killed by Pakistani soldiers or Kashmiri rebels, who have been fighting against Indian rule since 1989.

Also Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a high-level security meeting to review the Kashmir situation.

"We will never abandon our Kashmiri brethren in their freedom struggle," Sharif later said, according to a government statement.

Irony: Ellen DeGeneres Wasn't Allowed Into The White House Because She Forgot I.D.
[Townhall] Yesterday comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was in Washington D.C. to receive the Medal of Freedom from President Obama. Before making her way into the White House, DeGeneres was held outside because she forgot to bring identification.

Oopsie.

President Obama and many of his liberal supporters are opposed to identification requirements for voting, but apparently don't have an issue with identification requirements (even for well-known celebrities) at the White House.

City renames 2 holidays deemed culturally insensitive
[Fox] The city of Bloomington, Indiana, has renamed Good Friday and Columbus Day because the names imply a cultural insensitivity, according to the Bloomington Herald-Times.

The new, more politically-correct names will help make the holidays more inclusive, the mayor said.

The change was made Friday by Mayor John Hamilton, who sent a memo to city employees.

"We are terrifically proud of our diverse workforce at the city," Hamilton wrote. "That diversity makes us stronger and more representative of the public we proudly serve. These updated names for two days of well-merited time off is another way we can demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity."

The Herald-Times reports that "all city employees receive paid time off for Columbus Day, a federal holiday ... and Good Friday, the Friday before Easter Sunday. In the future, the city will be calling these paid days off 'Fall Holiday' and 'Spring Holiday.'"

Good Friday is not a federal holiday but is observed by many Christians as the day Jesus Christ was crucified by the Romans.

Columbus Day is a federal holiday noting the arrival of the Italian explorer in the Americas, on Oct. 12, 1492. Columbus Day has come under fire from liberals who claim the discovery of the Americas by Europeans led to centuries of oppression of Native Americans.

Dissing and dismantling the holiday became more a left-wing cause when the late Howard Zinn, a political science professor at Boston University, spent the first chapter of his 1980 book, "A People's History of the United States," flaying Columbus.

Trump wins Michigan two weeks after Election Day
[Washington Examiner] Two weeks after Election Day, Donald Trump has won Michigan, the Detroit Free Press declared Wednesday night.

The Michigan secretary of state on Wednesday posted vote counts certified at the county level from the contest that was too close to call since people voted on Nov. 8, and showed President-elect Trump ahead of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by 10,704 votes. That was less than his 13,107 vote lead that was initially recorded.

"Many people have asked about Michigan's process for counting ballots and certifying election results. Please be aware that all 1,521 Michigan cities and townships completed ballot counting and reported unofficial results by the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 9," according to a statement on the secretary of state's website. "The county canvassing boards, as they do after every election, then began their work to review and certify the results from each precinct."

Trump received a total of 2,279,543 votes, while Clinton got 2,268,839, according to the Michigan Board of State Canvassers' unofficial count. Behind the two front-runners were Libertarian Gary Johnson at 172,136 votes and the Green Party's Jill Stein at 51,463 votes.

Tommy Hilfiger thinks designers ‘should be proud' to dress Melania Trump
As it turns out, not everyone agrees with Sophie Theallet’s stance on dressing -- or rather, not dressing -- future First Lady Melania Trump. The designer revealed last week that she would not dress Trump and encouraged other designers to follow her lead.

"As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next first lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by," Theallet wrote. Designers stayed mum following her demand -- until Nov. 21 at the Angel Ball, when Tommy Hilfiger suggested designers not "become political about it."

Hilfiger and wife Dee Ocleppo were among those attending the Angel Ball at the Cipriani Wall Street. When asked what he thought of Theallet’s refusal to dress Trump, he responded with compliments for the former model.

"I think Melania is a very beautiful woman and I think any designer should be proud to dress her," Hilfiger said. "Ivanka is equally as beautiful and smart, although she wears her own clothes. I don’t think people should become political about it. Everyone was very happy to dress Michelle [Obama] as well. I think they look great in the clothes. You’re not gonna get much more beautiful than Ivanka or Melania."

Theallet did not respond to requests for comment on her missive on Nov. 18. A spokeswomen for Trump also did not respond to requests for comment. Spokespeople for Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Dennis Basso declined to comment, as did one for Ivanka Trump, a designer in her own right. Representatives for Carolina Herrera, Rosie Assoulin and Thakoon Panichgul said they were unavailable.

Hilfiger is one of the first designers to speak out about Theallet’s vow not to dress Trump. Perhaps his comments will inspire others to voice their opinions on the matter, too.

At least one retailer is also not happy with Theallet.

Angela’s, a designer boutique in Rye, N.Y., is angry about Theallet’s open letter to designers. Owner Angela Guitard sent Theallet an e-mail Monday morning calling the designer’s move "a slap in the face" to herself as a U.S. citizen, and said she would not carry her collection in her store.

"As an independent store owner unbiased to all, I keep my opinions to myself about politics, especially when it is unwarranted. I am disappointed by your e-mail and the ignorant said content of it. Clearly you are now inflicting your impudent political opinions on others and using social media for promotion. It is disrespectful and unprofessional on many fronts," Guitard wrote.

"The fact that you have rejected our new president and first lady is not only a slap in the face to me as a U.S. citizen, but you have also insulted the true democracy of this country and negated any openness to unite Americans," she wrote.

Guitard said the USA has allowed both Theallet and many others, including herself, many opportunities to pursue their dream. "Capitalism is the true mantra of this country; ignorance is not," Guitard wrote. "I encourage you, as an immigrant to this country, to cherish the USA, the great country you now live in, and embrace our new reign of power in the White House," she wrote.

Further she added, "It would be anyone’s honor to dress our first lady that this country has chosen."

Guitard told WWD that she used to carry Theallet’s collection, but stopped carrying it about two and a half years ago. She said her husband is also French and has been in the country 25 years and became an American citizen last year. This was the first election he could vote in.

"I feel very strongly that he [Donald Trump] won the election, he is our president-elect and you have to respect who the people voted for," Guitard told WWD. She said she would drop any designers who refuse to dress Melania Trump. She said she hasn’t heard back yet from Theallet, who has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama during the past eight years.

A spokeswoman for Theallet said the designer was not commenting beyond her original open letter. Asked whether Theallet was a U.S. citizen and voted in the election, the spokeswoman declined comment.

Alicia Silverstone Poses Nude for PETA to Protest Wool
Alicia Silverstone would rather go naked than wear wool. And she's making that very clear in her new ad for PETA, in which she poses nude holding a sheep mask and standing with her back to the camera. A massive billboard of the image now stands near Times Square in New York City.
I think I just found the silver lining in the PETA cloud.
"If you're trying to avoid wool, why not make that leap?" she suggests in a related video that's part of PETA's new #WoolFreeWinter campaign. "Say, 'I'm never going to buy wool again.'"

She continues, "Wool, in general, has not been thought about by many, many people. It's just not something that's brought to their attention. The biggest thing that people always say to me is, "Oh, but they just shear the sheep! They don't kill the sheep.'" The video then cuts to graphic images of sheep being tortured for their wool, the very fabric that's in the sweater you are probably wearing right now.

As the PETA website goes on to explain, "If they were left alone and not genetically manipulated, sheep would grow just enough wool to protect themselves from temperature extremes. The fleece provides them with effective insulation against both cold and heat." Additionally, it notes, "Shearers are usually paid by volume, not by the hour, which encourages fast work without any regard for the welfare of the sheep. This hasty and careless shearing leads to frequent injuries, and workers use a needle and thread to sew the worst wounds shut -- without any pain relief. Strips of skin -- and even teats, tails, and ears -- are often cut or ripped off during shearing."
They have a bucket they put the extra parts in after they're done shearing the sheep.
The 40-year-old star once famously debated in behalf of "Haiti-ans" in Clueless, but now she's arguing in behalf of sheep, and as usual, she makes a good point. "It's on the slaughterhouse floor, where it's on a conveyor belt, and it's going that fast. It's just so fast -- the shearing process -- that they're cut, they're harmed. They get very seriously wounded, and there's no care for them when they're wounded. It's just, 'Move on to the next,'" Silverstone states in the video. "These are not creatures to the people who are doing this. They're just objects. When the sheep are no longer useful, they're killed."
Sheep death panels?
This is not Silverstone's first foray into PETA activism. In the early 2000s, she appeared in a video for the organization about being a vegetarian and how it has made her feel better and has given her more energy.
OK, now I'm inspired to go tell Angie Harmon that bears are having to use nettles because budget cuts to the National Park Service have resulted in no more toilet paper being put out for them to use. Of course, she has a brain so it probably won't work.

#5  Actress Alicia Silverstone is defending her parenting skills, calling her favored practice of pre-chewing her son's food "adorable" and saying she doesn't regret making it public, despite the widespread backlash.

The "Clueless" star has withered heavy criticism since a video she posted last month of her taking a spoonful of food, chewing it, then passing it open-mouthed to her 11-month-old son, Bear Blu, went viral.

"I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It's his favorite…and mine," Silverstone wrote on her blog The Kind Life. "He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I'm eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!"

CEO Mathew Blanchfield tells pro-Trump, Republican clients to take a hike: ‘You are not welcome'
The CEO of an Albuquerque-based internet marketing firm has issued a letter telling clients who support President-elect Donald Trump to take their business elsewhere.

Mathew Blanchfield, who runs 1st in SEO, posted the letter describing Mr. Trump as "a racist, sexist, fascist" earlier this month on his company's website.
I wonder if he has links to support using those adjectives. Oh, it seems he forgot homophobic and anti-Semitic, I believe.
He said that while he remains committed to his liberal clients, he "will no longer do business with any person that is a registered Republican or supports Donald Trump."
Seems to me there are many more conservative business owners than liberal. Except for maybe those insanely rich dictators in Silicon Valley.
"If you are a Republican, voted for Donald Trump or support Donald Trump, in any manner, you are not welcome at 1st In SEO and we ask you to leave our firm," Mr. Blanchfield wrote in the letter, which he shared Wednesday with his 35,000 Twitter followers.
Trump is a populist. You're about to find out what that means, and half of you isn't going to like it.
"We ask you, our current clients, to please respond to this letter and confirm where you stand politically. If you are a Republican or support Trump, we will no longer serve you," he wrote. "To our Democrat and Progressive clients, we want to recommit to you that we will continue to work diligently to improve your internet marketing results in this quickly changing world."
"I hope this doesn't hurt too much."
In an interview this week with KOB, a local NBC News affiliate, Mr. Blanchfield said he had a "moral obligation" to stand up for what he believes is right.
. . . and get your butt shot off.

Huge glacier retreat triggered in 1940s
[BBC] The melting Antarctic glacier that now contributes more to sea-level rise than any other ice stream on the planet began its big decline in the 1940s.

This is when warm ocean water likely first got under Pine Island Glacier (PIG) to loosen the secure footing it had enjoyed up until that point.

Researchers figured out the timing by dating the sediments beneath the PIG.

It puts the glacier’s current changes in their proper historical context, the scientists tell Nature magazine.

These changes can now be regarded as unprecedented in thousands of years.

Not only is the glacier going backwards, it is also thinning fast - losing more than 2m in elevation every year.

Other field studies and computer models suggest a runaway collapse might even be possible.

"This glacier used to be pinned to a ridge and once it moved away from that ridge, it started to retreat rapidly; and without other pinning points it could continue to retreat rapidly inland, contributing significantly to global sea level," Dr James Smith from the British Antarctic Survey told BBC News.

Speculation. Surface albedo + decreased clouds is a more likely cause, not least because it also explains Arctic sea ice declines.

ISIS in Europe: 3 suspects released in two cases
Belgium frees suspected accomplice in Jewish museum attack

[IsraelTimes] Nacer Bendrer, who denies involvement in deadly 2014 shooting, released on 50,000-euro bond.

The Belgian authorities have freed on bail a Frenchman suspected of helping in the May 2014 attack at the Brussels Jewish Museum, which left four people dead, prosecutors said on Tuesday. Nacer Bendrer was released against a 50,000-euro bond, ordered to stay at his home in France and make himself available to investigators, the Belga news agency reported. A spokesman for Belgian federal prosecutors declined to comment when contacted by AFP.

Bendrer, arrested in December 2014 near the southern French city of Marseille, was sent to Belgium to face charges of “complicity in a terrorist attack.” When he was detained, Bendrer was in possession of various weapons including an AK-47 style assault rifle similar to the one that Frenchman Mehdi Nemmouche is suspected of using to carry out the attack.

Bendrer denies any involvement.

On May 24, 2014 a gunman opened fire in the entrance hall of the museum in the center of the Belgian capital, killing two Israeli tourists, a French volunteer and a Belgian museum receptionist. Nemmouche, 31, had returned from Syria where he had been fighting with Islamist extremists, and now faces trial some time next year over the Jewish museum attack.

In September 2015 France extradited another suspect in the Jewish Museum attack — Mounir Atallah — to Belgium.

Two Suspects Freed in France Terror Plot Probe

[AnNahar] French authorities late Tuesday released two of the seven suspects arrested in police raids at the weekend which broke up a terror ring plotting an attack, a judicial source told AFP.

Police swooped on Saturday night in the in the eastern city of Strasbourg and Marseille in the south following an investigation by security services lasting more than eight months. They detained seven alleged plotters from France, Morocco and Afghanistan, foiling what Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve called "a long-planned terror attack on our soil."

Two of those held in Marseille were freed on Tuesday. They were suspected of having helped shelter a Moroccan identified as Hicham E., who is still in custody, thought to be the group's financer.

The four suspects held in Strasbourg, all French, aged between 35 and 37 and not previously known to the intelligence services, were still being questioned Tuesday. Two of them are suspected of travelling to Syria in 2015 before returning to Europe. Two handguns, an automatic pistol, a machine pistol and jihadist propaganda were all found during the raids.

Two Frenchmen linked to the group who are thought to have been in communication with a commander in Syria have been questioned and put behind bars, a probe source said.
Ynet adds:
PARIS -- French officials say that two suspects -- one a school employee -- arrested in an alleged attack plot on France apparently traveled briefly to Syria. Two officials close to the investigation said that two of the four people arrested in Strasbourg had traveled to Cyprus as if on a vacation, then apparently made a quick trip to Syria. One, identified as Yassine B., 38, worked in a Strasbourg school.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the case.

Wilders tells Netherlands hate speech trial 'I am no racist'

[DeutscheWelle] Dutch right wing populist politician Geert Wilders has denied racially insulting Moroccans and inciting racial hatred. At the end of his latest hate speech trial, he said the proceedings were "against freedom of speech.

Wilders, who leads the anti-immigration Freedom Party (PVV), remained unapologetic as his trial for alleged hate speech drew to a close on Wednesday. The 53-year-old, who had shunned the hearing until it reached its final few days, attended the high-security courthouse near Amsterdam's Schiphol, where he addressed the three-judge bench.

Wilders claimed prosecutors, who he referred to as "puppets," and opposition politicians of directing a "political process" against him.

"The court is being abused to settle a political score," Wilders told the bench.

Prosecutors last week pressed for the court to impose a 5,000 euro ($5,300) fine on Wilders, who has said he will close mosques, ban Muslim immigrants and take the Netherlands out of the European Union, if voted into power at a general election in March next year.

A verdict is set to be delivered by the court on December 9, with the hearing itself ending on Friday. Wilders was cleared of similar charges in 2011.

Amsterdam mayor rejects broadcasting mosque’s call to prayer

[IsraelTimes] Wester Mosque, Holland’s largest, asked that muezzin’s call be sounded from 42-meter-high minaret. But when Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan visited the mosque last week, congregants requested that the call be projected from loudspeakers. The mayor rejected the request immediately.

Germany says some Syrians will not get full asylum

[Ynet] A German state court says authorities are entitled to grant Syrians a form of protection that falls short of full asylum, a decision that goes against rulings by several lower courts. Germany's government resumed closer checks of Syrians' claims this year after a large influx of newcomers in 2015, and decided that migrants granted "subsidiary protection," short of formal asylum, would not be allowed to bring relatives to join them for two years.

Some 94,000 Syrians have been granted that status. Many have sued successfully for more generous treatment. However, Schleswig-Holstein state's upper administrative court ruled Wednesday that Syrians who can not show that they were personally persecuted are not necessarily entitled to full asylum. It said there is no evidence that Syrian authorities automatically assume everyone who fled supports the opposition.

Betsy DeVos (sister of Erik Prince) picked as education secretary (Video)
[CNN] President-elect Donald Trump tapped Betsy DeVos, a top Republican donor and school choice activist, to head the Department of Education, the Trump transition team announced Wednesday.

Trump met with the billionaire donor and conservative activist this weekend at his golf club in New Jersey, where he hosted a slew of potential Cabinet appointees. Trump offered DeVos the position on Tuesday and she accepted the same day, a senior Trump transition official told CNN.

"Betsy DeVos is a brilliant and passionate education advocate," Trump said in a statement Wednesday. "Under her leadership we will reform the US education system and break the bureaucracy that is holding our children back so that we can deliver world-class education and school choice to all families."

But Trump is also already drawing fire from both sides of the political spectrum for his pick. The largest teacher's union in the country slammed DeVos within an hour of the announcement for her advocacy of charter schools and school voucher programs, while conservatives quickly pointed out DeVos' association with groups supporting the Common Core education standards, which Trump has vowed to nix. DeVos moved quickly on Wednesday to quell any uproar on the right over her association with pro-Common Core groups, saying, "I am not a supporter -- period."

DeVos chairs the American Federation for Children, a group that promotes charter school education, and also served on the board of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, a group led by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush -- one of Trump's GOP primary opponents -- which promoted both school choice and the Common Core education standards.

And so while Trump vowed to eliminate Common Core, his pick of DeVos has begun to scare conservative opponents of the standards.

DeVos insisted in the post on her website that she supports "high standards, strong accountability and local control."

#1  The largest teacher's union in the country slammed DeVos within an hour of the announcement for her advocacy of charter schools and school voucher programs.

Charter schools and vouchers diminish teacher union influence. Glad the Common Core nonsense also got straightened out by Devos. Trump received some of his greatest applause at his rallys when he said he would get rid of Common Core--a further weakening of teacher's unions. There has been a mention of requiring the unions to collect their dues on their own rather than use school resources.

China-Japan-Koreas
Fat Boy to Trump: Drop Hostile Policies
North Korea's Foreign Ministry in a nine-page statement on Monday called on the U.S. to drop its "hostile" policies toward Pyongyang. The North has "chosen the path to nuclear armament as a way of self-defense... from constant nuclear threats from the U.S.," the statement said. This seems to be a thinly veiled appeal to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump to overhaul North Korea policy.

The statement lists what it calls the U.S.' "political, military, and economic hostilities since 2012."

"Five years have passed" since the North began a full-scale confrontation with the U.S. to counter "the U.S.' hostile maneuvers and nuclear threats" after former leader Kim Jong-il's death.

Washington should look squarely at the North's "changed strategic status" and show with deeds that it will "stop anachronistic hostile policies toward the North and nuclear threats," it continued. "This alone will be a starting point for a solution to all problems."

Politico Editor RESIGNS After Publishing Home Addresses Of Alt-Right Icon
[DAILYCALLER] National editor at Politico Michael Hirsh resigned after publishing the home addresses of alt-right figurehead Richard Spencer Tuesday morning and advocating for serious violence.

Politico confirmed his resignation following requests for comment from The Daily Caller News Foundation.

"Stop whining about Richard B. Spencer, Nazi, and exercise your rights as decent Americans," Hirsh wrote in a public Facebook post. "Here are his two addresses."

The Daily Caller News Foundation redacted the home addresses.
It was worse than this; in further comments Mr. Hirsh suggested to his readers that readers had every reason to go to one of the addresses with baseball bats.

Now then, I don't know enough about Richard Spencer to know if he is, as our current MSM proclaims, Satan Incarnate or is just (as Stacy McCain suggests) an angry, frustrated young man. Oil prices edge down on doubts about OPEC-led cuts
Oil prices fell slightly on Wednesday amid investor doubts that OPEC will agree to a production cut large enough to make a significant dent in the global glut of crude as U.S. drilling rises, Reuters reported.

Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will meet next week on Nov. 30 in Vienna to decide on the details of an agreement to cut output that the group has been trying to hammer out since September.

Oil prices fluctuated throughout the day, starting lower in the morning and later briefly turning positive after the Energy Information Administration said U.S. crude stocks unexpectedly fell 1.3 million barrels last week after three straight weeks of builds. Reports that U.S. drillers added rigs this week tempered the gains ahead of the settlement.

In the U.S. market, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures CLc1 settled down 7 cents, or 0.2 percent, at $47.96 a barrel.

Brent crude futures LCOc1 settled down 17 cents, or 0.35 percent at $48.95 a barrel.

Iraqi security forces, aided by the Kurdish Peshmerga, Shiite militias and a U.S.-led international coalition, engaged in a ground offensive on Oct. 17 to capture Mosul -- Iraq's second-largest city -- away from Islamic State control.

In Mosul's al-Zahra neighborhood, Iraqi security forces fired gunshots into the air in order to disperse hundreds of civilians who rushed a food distribution point. One soldier was seen beating a woman who was attempting to acquire food, Rudaw reported.

New Mexico Business: If You Support Trump, Get Out
A business owner in Albuquerque has announced that, due to his opposition to "fascism," he will henceforth refuse to do business with Republicans and President-elect Donald Trump supporters.

According to KOB 4 News, Matthew Blanchfield runs the online marketing company 1st in SEO, and he’s so upset about the presidential election he’s willing to shed customers to show his disgust.

"America has elected Donald Trump, a racist, sexist, fascist, to be our next president," Blanchfield says in a blog post two days after the election. "If you are a Republican, voted for Donald Trump or support Donald Trump, in any manner, you are not welcome at 1st in SEO and we ask you to leave our firm ... 1st in SEO will do everything in our power to ensure that we break ties with any person or business that supports fascism."

While it’s illegal for most businesses in the U.S. to discriminate on the basis of sex, religion, or race, there are no federal laws barring discrimination based on political ideology. A handful of states prohibit such discrimination. New Mexico isn’t one of them.

Blanchfield told KOB 4 he’s already lost one client due to his declaration, and he’s prepared to lose more.

"The expense financially to me is immaterial," he said. "Morality, justice and doing what’s correct far supersedes financial gain for me."

Blanchfield could be alienating a big swath of his potential customer base, though. In Bernalillo County, where Albuquerque is located, 34.5 percent of the population voted for Trump. Furthermore, a survey indicated that small business owners, likely a key client base for Blanchfield, were substantially more likely to support Trump than the country at large.

seven people, taking orders from Syria, thought to have been plotting to hit Christmas events.
What else is new? They do that every year.
With a "focus on the upcoming holiday season and associated events", the State Department in Washington D.C. said organised attacks, such as those in Gay Paree last November and in Brussels in March, as well as lone-wolf attacks, were possible.

"U.S. citizens should also be alert to the possibility that krazed killer sympathizers or self-radicalized murderous Moslems may conduct attacks during this period with little or no warning," they said.

FLASH! How Kim Kardashian Is Handling Kanye West’s Hospitalization
[EXTRATV] Reality star Kim Kardashian immediately flew back to Los Angeles as news broke of husband Kanye West’s hospitalization.
She's decided to have another butt transplant?
Kardashian skipped the Angel Ball, which had been slated to be her first red-carpet event after she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, flying from New York City to be by Kanye’s side.
"Darling! It is I!"
A source told E! News, "Kim is by his side now and will stand there till everything gets better.
"Would you like another heinie feel, my love?"
Their time together was just about support. Kanye will be ok. He has a good set of doctors and the main thing is he wants to get through this."
"I'm gonna get through this!"
"What is it?"
"I dunno, man!"
"Then how do you know you're gonna get through it? Maybe it's a tumor!"
"Kim!"

Kim has been able to move on from the heist and be strong for her family.
"I'm strong!"
"Yeah! Flex your glutes!"

The insider continued, "She is just holding things down like Kanye did for her when she needed support. Kim is doing much better and is strong. This shall pass she believes.”
"Unless it's a tumor."
Another source revealed how the robbery affected the power couple’s marriage, telling People magazine, "Kim [was] usually the more stable and strong person in the marriage. Kanye is used to leaning on her. Since Kim has had her own issues to deal with, the roles have been reversed. Kanye has had to stay strong to support Kim, and it’s like he can’t handle it anymore.”
"I just can't take it anymore! The same thing, every day! 'They robbed me! They took my stuff! They didn't care who I wuz!' Yakkety yak!"
Even before his admittance into the hospital, Kim was reportedly worried about him.
"Oh, Kanye! I hope you don't have a tumor!"
The first source explained, "Kim was concerned that he may have been taking on too much with all these shows. It was many things on his plate that started to pile up at once.”

Abraham Lincoln - Proclamation 118‐Thanksgiving Day, 1864
By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation

It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year, defending us with His guardian care against unfriendly designs from abroad and vouchsafing to us in His mercy many and signal victories over the enemy, who is of our own household. It has also pleased our Heavenly Father to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps and our sailors on the rivers and seas with unusual health. He has largely augmented our free population by emancipation and by immigration, while He has opened to us new sources of wealth and has crowned the labor of our workingmen in every department of industry with abundant rewards. Moreover, He has been pleased to animate and inspire our minds and hearts with fortitude, courage, and resolution sufficient for the great trial of civil war into which we have been brought by our adherence as a nation to the cause of freedom and humanity, and to afford to us reasonable hopes of an ultimate and happy deliverance from all our dangers and afflictions:

Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may then be, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the Great Disposer of Events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this 20th day of October, A.D. 1864, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-ninth.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

By the President:

WILLIAM H. SEWARD,

Secretary of State .

Peshawar High Court halts govt order to deport Pak-Turk school staff

Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court (PHC) on Wednesday passed a stay order preventing the government from deporting Pak-Turk school officials.

A two-member bench of the PHC comprising Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Ikramullah heard a writ petition filed by students and parents of Pak-Turk schools.

The petitioners maintained that the federal government had ordered the expulsion of teachers due to a political issue which the teachers had no connection with.

The writ petition mentioned that there were 26 Pak-Turk school campuses across the country, in which around 11,000 students were enrolled.

The PHC issued a stay order on the federal government's earlier order of expulsion of staffers and issued a notice to the federal government to clarify its stance on the issue.

The government issued an order to the Turkish staff of its schools to leave the country ahead of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

'Senior al-Qaida Leader' Killed in U.S. Strike in Syria
[AnNahar] A U.S. dronezap has killed a senior al-Qaeda leader in Syria who previously operated in Afghanistan, the Defense Department announced Tuesday.

The November 18 strike near Sarmada in northwestern Syria targeted Abu Afghan al-Masri, Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said.

"He had ties to terrorist groups operating throughout Southwest Asia, including groups responsible for attacking U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan and those plotting to attack the West," Cook said.

Al-Masri was an Egyptian
... which is what al-Masri means. But we knew that. "Abu Afghan" means "father of Afghan," which is kind of an ugly name to hang on a kid...
who originally joined al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and later moved to its Syrian affiliate, Cook said.

The Pentagon did not immediately provide further information about Masri, only that he had a "big shotship role" in al-Qaeda.

"This is someone who helped organize al-Qaeda activities," Cook said.

He "has been on our radar for some time."

Three security men killed in Peshawar blast
[DAWN] Three officials of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were killed and seven others, including a policeman and a passerby, injured when a bomb hit a vehicle carrying personnel of the paramilitary force in a suburb of the city on Tuesday.

Medics at the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) confirmed that 10 victims of the blast were brought to the hospital. Three of them had died before reaching the hospital and seven injured were admitted to it.

The incident took place in the Bashirabad area, about 5km from here. An official at the Faqirabad cop shoppe told Dawn that the blast, caused by an improvised bomb, occurred at around 10am and targeted a police truck transporting FC personnel to the Police Lines.

India to buy howitzers worth $737m from US
[DAWN] Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally cleared the long-pending purchase of 145 M777 ultra-light howitzers from the United States, the US media reported on Monday.
Great for cross-border firing!
The $737 million arms deal is part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement between the United States and India, which aims to promote greater defence cooperation between the two countries.

The Pentagon’s FMS programme facilitates sales of US defence equipment and services to foreign governments.

Under the arrangement, the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency serves as an intermediary, handling procurement, logistics and delivery of the purchased equipment.

"The contract will be signed within the next two months, and the deliveries are expected to start in mid-2017," an Indian defence official told news hounds in New Delhi.

"India is certainly looking forward for a much greater defence partnership under the leadership with newly elected US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
," the official said.

The official also told news hounds that the artillery pieces would help India target Death Eater bases inside Pakistain without crossing the border and that’s why acquiring the howitzers was a top priority. "It will be a game changer," he added.

Last year, the Indian Ministry of Defence approved a proposal to buy M777A2 (LW155) howitzers from the US only after a commitment from the manufacturers to set up assembly, integration and test (AIT) facilities in India to boost India’s domestic defence industry.

Under the arrangement, US subsidiary of BAE Systems will dispatch 25 M777 artillery guns in fly-away condition; remaining guns will be assembled in India in partnership with private sector company Mahindra Defence Systems.

"Developing a supply chain in India is key to our vision to develop technologies and solutions in India for both the home market and for export," the US manufacturer said.

The two companies will jointly set up an AIT facility for M777 artillery guns near New Delhi.

Wayne State University police officer dies after being shot in head
[WASHINGTONPOST] A Wayne State University police officer has died after being shot in the head while patrolling an area near the bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
campus, police said Wednesday.

Following an hours-long manhunt, police tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a person of interest and took him into custody, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told news hounds in a news conference.

The officer, 29-year-old Collin Rose, was investigating complaints of thefts from vehicles Tuesday when he stopped a man on a bicycle, Craig said. Responding to the scene as backup, a second officer found Rose on the ground, suffering from at least one serious gunshot wound, the Detroit Free Press reported. The officer was not shot with his own gun, and police were still searching for the weapon used, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.

Rose was taken to a hospital, where he was recovering from surgery Tuesday night, Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson said, according to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named. The officer was with family members and was not "totally out of the woods," Wilson said.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
the university announced Rose’s death in a news release Wednesday evening. Detroit police Sgt. Michael Woody confirmed that Rose died about 5:45 p.m., according to the AP.

Authorities had not determined a motive for the shooting, "whether it was an ambush or something different," Wilson said, according to the AP.

According to witnesses, the suspect frequents the area where the incident took place, in the Woodbridge area of Detroit, Craig said. When Rose stopped him, at about 6:45 p.m., he was riding a blue mountain bike, which was later found at the scene of the shooting, several blocks southwest of the Wayne State campus.

The manager of an apartment complex nearby told the Detroit Free Press she witnessed the shooting. The woman, Betty Evans, said she argued with a man on a bicycle, and when he wouldn’t leave the area, she called 911. She saw an officer arrive to confront the man.

"The officer was trying to get his hands behind his back," Evans said. "We heard a shot and the officer went down, and we heard two more shots."

Police began what they described as a massive manhunt, which included air searches with the help of state police, Detroit police and a number of other agencies, Craig said.

In statements on social media and on the university website, police told the public they were searching for an African American man in his 40s with a full beard, wearing a white T-shirt with white and black lettering, a skull cap and a brown jacket.

Wayne State, located in the heart of Detroit, has more than 27,000 students, employs more than 50 officers and requires all officers to have a bachelor’s degree, according to the university website. Rose was the first officer from the department to be fatally shot, Wayne State University Police Chief Anthony Holt said.

Rose, a canine officer, was a five-year veteran of the Wayne State University police department and was described by Holt as an "excellent," "proactive" canine officer -- one of the best in Detroit, he said.

Rose frequently visited schools to talk to students, gave demonstrations with his canine, and reached out to the families of slain officers, attending funerals of coppers across the country, Holt said.

According to the university’s website, Rose served as the handler and partner of a canine named in honor of a slain Detroit police officer, Patrick Hill, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in October 2013. A photo on the website shows Rose posing with the dog, named Wolverine in memory of Hill’s affectionate nickname.

[NYDAILYNEWS] Cops busted a Queens man for trying to push a straphanger onto the subway tracks in Harlem and yelling, "I hate white people!"

Police cuffed Gary Weeks, 51, of Wavecrest for the bizarre attack Monday at 2 p.m. at the 4-5-6 subway station at 125th St. and Lexington Ave., officials said.

The straphanger was waiting for a northbound train when Weeks walked up to him and tried to push him onto the tracks. The victim got away from Weeks, as other people started pointing and yelling at the attacker to simmer down.

He then began yelling about his hatred for whites. Once cops closed in and cuffed him, he spit on one officer, police said.

Weeks was charged with attempted murder, aggravated harassment and obstruction of government administration.

    India-Pakistan
    The only lesson from Pakistan
[NEWINDIANEXPRESS] On November 2, many Pak dailies carried names and pictures of eight Indian High Commission officials, alleging they were spies. The fact that this was "reiterated without any corroboration by Pakistain Ministry of Foreign Affairs is against the Vienna Convention and also violates the norms of established diplomatic practice", asserted external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj in a written reply in the Parliament Wednesday, adding: "The allegations against Indian offi cials represent an afterthought on the part of Government of Pakistain." The part about the ’afterthought’ is obvious, given that the Pak exposure came a day after the expulsion of a visa offi cer at the Pak High Commission in New Delhi.

He was caught accepting classifi ed information from two Indian associates. Since then, both sides have withdrawn eight offi cials and their families from their missions in New Delhi and Islamabad. A bilateral agreement stipulates that neither side can have more than 110 staffers in their diplomatic missions. Swaraj’s assertion comes at a time when matters have escalated way beyond tit for tat expulsions. The daily deaths and injuries due to cross-border shelling and fi ring, jingoistic chest thumping by both sides, and the beheading of an Indian trooper on Tuesday has led to calls for more punitive action against Pakistain.

The clamour is likely to increase. But that is probably what the Mighty Pak Army and their Prime Minister Sharif are waiting for, so that they can use it to divert attention from their domestic problems, and also use it to draw international attention to Kashmire. Perhaps New Delhi could take a leaf out of Pakistain’s book. Take some dramatic action, but then, instead of boasting about it, deny any involvement. Or hint at ’non-state’ actors, Pakistain’s euphemism for ISI lapdogs like the Jaish-e- Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
. What’s good for the goose...

Hezbollah keeps military assets in 1/3 of homes in Shiite villages in Lebanon
[JPOST] Almost every Shiite village or neighborhood in southern Leb is being used by Hezbollah fighters, according to Brig.-Gen. Ram Yavne, head of the IDF Strategic Division.

One civilian village pointed out by Yavne called Chakra, which has 4,000 Shi’ite inhabitants, "reflects the situation of every Shi’ite neighborhood, town, or village in Leb. In that village, 1/3 of the homes are military assets of Hezbollah."

Speaking at The Jerusalem Post Diplomatic Conference, Yavne told the crowd that while it is also a military challenge, "this use of civilians as human shields should be condemned" by the world. According to Yavne, the Middle East until 2010 was like the one that was seen on a map ‐ a region of states with set borders. But six years later, the international community is dealing with various non-state actors, some quite extreme.

The region, he said, is overrun with four major political rifts, each one clashing with the other: the Iranian-Shi’ite camp, the Sunni camp headed by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and including Egypt, the global jihad camp which includes the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and al-Qaeda, and the Moslem Brüderbund camp. In addition to those four political camps, the last two years has also seen the intervention of the United States and Russia in the region.

Palestinian killed while trying to stab guard at crossing — police
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man armed with a knife was shot and killed by Israeli security forces as he attempted to stab a guard at a crossing outside Jerusalem Tuesday morning, police said.

The incident occurred at the Qalandiya Crossing north of Jerusalem, which links the capital to the Paleostinian refugee camp of the same name.

The attacker was declared dead of his wounds at the scene, a police spokesperson said. The Paleostinian Health Ministry identified the man as Jihad Mohammad Sa’id Khalil (48), from Beit Wazan, located west of Nablus.

According to police, the assailant walked toward guards manning an area meant for vehicular traffic. When asked for his ID, he drew a knife and "tussled" with a guard. He was then shot by responding forces.

"A Paleostinian terrorist armed with a knife attempted to stab a security guard. The security guard responded at the scene," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

    The guard was not hurt.

A spate of stabbings by Paleostinian assailants a year ago has waned over the last six months, though sporadic attacks have persisted.

Pakistani troops targeting Indian posts: ISPR
[DAWN] ISPR in a statement confirmed that Pak and Indian troops had exchanged fire across the LoC on Wednesday.

Indian forces were targeting the civilian population, ISPR said, adding that a civilian bus and ambulance were fired at.

"An intense exchange of fire is ongoing as Pak troops target Indian posts."

Earlier, ISPR said, "Indian resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling on LoC in Shahkot, Jura, Battal, Karela, Bagh , Bagsar, Hotspring sectors today."

Federal cabinet condemns 'unprovoked' Indian firing
The federal cabinet during a meeting in Islamabad today strongly condemned the 'unprovoked' Indian firing along the LoC and extended its condolences to the affected families, Radio Pakistain reported.

The latest incident of cross-border firing comes just a day after the Indian army claimed three of its soldiers were killed along the LoC and threatened Pak forces of retribution.

The Indian army also claimed that the body of one of the dead soldiers had been "mutilated."

The Foreign Office however rejected the claim, saying that the "reports are a fabrication and a blatant attempt to malign Pakistain".

    'Situation critical along LoC'
AJK Legislative Assembly Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir who has returned from Neelum valley said the situation was critical all along the LoC.

"I call upon the government of Pakistain to raise the unprovoked shelling of civilian populations as an issue in the UN Security Council to build pressure on India," he told journalists in Muzaffarabad.

He said since Neelum valley was highly vulnerable to Indian guns, "a great trial had begun for its nearly 250,000 residents."

He claimed that Indian troops were not even allowing transportation of injured persons to Muzaffarabad.

    Passenger bus targeted in Lawat

[DAWN] "Indian troops hit a passenger coaster with small and big arms in the town of Lawat, killing nine passengers and injuring 11 others," said Jamil Mir, superintendent of police (SP) in Neelum Valley.

"Four bodies and all 11 injured persons have arrived in District Headquarters Hospital Athmuqam, but five bodies are still in the coaster," SP Mir said.

The coaster was on its way to Muzaffarabad. Lawat is located some 90 kilometres northeast of here in the upper belt of valley that straddles the restive Line of Control (LoC).

SP Mir said shelling in Neelum valley had begun at about 3:00am, but intensified in the morning. Officials from other areas had similar stories.

    Cross-border firing a new normal

[DAWN] Tensions between Pakistain and India have been running high following an alleged 'surgical strike', unrest in Kashmire and the Uri army base attack in September.

Since then there have been repeated outbreaks of cross-border firing in Kashmire, with both sides reporting deaths and injuries including of civilians.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped up a drive to isolate Pakistain diplomatically after the Uri army base attack in which 19 Indian soldiers were killed. Hours after the attack occurred, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed Pakistain a 'terrorist state' and accused Pakistain of involvement.

The Uri attack occurred days before Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
was set to address the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly regarding Indian human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
    violations in held Kashmire.

Following the attack, India claimed it had conducted a cross-border 'surgical strike' against 'launch pads of terror' in Azad Jammu and Kashmire -- a claim Pakistain has strongly rejected.

Pakistain maintains that India is attempting to divert the world's attention away from atrocities committed by government forces in India-held Kashmire.

Pakistain and India have, most recently, locked horns over Kashmire since Indian forces stepped up a crackdown against protesters after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed by government forces in July.

3 Pakistan Army soldiers killed in exchange of fire with Indian troops near LoC

[DAWN] Three Pakistain Army soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire with Indian troops near the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

"Three Pak soldiers valiantly embraced shahadat at the Line of Control while responding to Indian unprovoked firing," the ISPR said.

The army's media wing identified the soldiers as Captain Taimoor Ali Khan, Havaldar Mushtaq Hussain and Lance Naik Ghulam Hussain.

An ISPR statement also said that seven Indian soldiers confirmed dead in retaliatory fire. The ISPR added that the exchange of fire between Pak and Indian troops is ongoing.

"It may be mentioned here that in order to distract attention from the real issue of atrocities in India-held Kashmire by Indian troops, they are now targeting civilians population across the LoC towards the Pakistain side," the ISPR claimed.

Earlier today, Indian troops targeted a passenger bus near the LoC, killing nine people and injuring 11 others in Lawat.

In a separate incident of Indian shelling in Nakyal and Tatta Pani, one person was killed and seven others injured.

One killed, seven injured in Nakyal, Tatta Pani

[DAWN] In Nakyal, one person was killed and six others injured.

Sardar Zeeshan Nisar, assistant commissioner of Nakyal, in the southern Kotli district said, "Shelling in my area has started at about 8:40 am, and it has been indiscriminate."

The assistant commissioner said six people were injured, and one person who was earlier wounded had succumbed to his injuries.

"So far, four injured persons have been brought to a health facility," Nisar said earlier, "But I am afraid there may be more casualties, as shelling is ongoing."

Tatta Pani sector of district Kotli was also receiving shells. According to an official at the office of the deputy commissioner Kotli, one person was injured in the area.

Locals in Battal, Madarpur sectors of district Poonch said their areas were also hit by heavy shelling.

"There were unconfirmed reports about some people having been injured, but we are awaiting confirmation," a police official told Dawn from Madarpur.

Kashmir conflict is cash cow for terrorists, their promoters: Sri Sri
[Daily Excelsior] Maintaining that there was no readymade solution to Kashmire problem and it needs to be addressed by sitting together with an open mind, spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shanker today said that the conflict was a cash cow for bully boyz and their promoters, who have vested interests to keep the pot boiling.

"The vested interest don’t want resolution of Kashmire problem and return of peace in the Valley as state of unrest has become a cash cow for them," he said while talking to the Excelsior on sidelines of a day-long conference on `Kashmire: Back to Paradise’, organized by South Asian Forum for Peace, an organization of the Art of Living Foundation, here today.

Admitting that these vested interests may try their best to sabotage his initiative on Kashmire, Sri Sri, however, stressed that such elements would not be able to deter him from raising the voice of common people in Valley who want peace as they are fed up with unrest. "People have been caught between Hartal and curfew, they want peace and education to their children but are scared of armed bully boyz and their promoters. We will give voice to these people," he said and exuded confidence of winning over hearts of the misguided youth once they come in his contact.

In response to a query, the spiritual Guru informed that in connection with the peace initiative, he had also met the PoK Governor though he did not elaborate on their meeting and only said that majority people in Pakistain also wanted peace between the two countries.

Regarding cross border terrorism and repeated ceasefire violations, Sri Sri said that the Government would deal with these gun wielding bully boyz and Mighty Pak Army while he would concentrate on resolving Kashmire by involving the people here.

Terming trust-deficit as another major hurdle in forging peace in trouble torn Kashmire, Sri Sri said that his organization has tried to provide a platform to all the stakeholders for sharing their ideas. "Trust deficit is the biggest problem. People don’t trust Government and the system but we can do away with this by involving all the stakeholders, who will sit together without any prejudice and find out a solution for peace, which can be evolved by none but only people of Kashmire," he said and predicted that intellectuals and spirituals would bring Kashmire back to paradise.

Earlier, during a media briefing and also while delivering key note address in the conference, Sri Sri drew attention towards radicalization of youth as well as drug abuse in Valley and lamented that no work was done so far on the de-radicalization and de-addiction.

Army chief approves death sentence of another 10 militants
[DAWN] Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
on Tuesday approved death penalties awarded by military courts to 10 more snuffies of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Islam
...a group of Islamic bandidos infesting Khyber Agency. It's headed by a former bus driver....
(LI) who were involved in the killing of security personnel.

"Today Chief of Army Staff confirmed death sentences awarded to another 10 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism," the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

This will possibly be the last batch of faceless myrmidons whose death sentences have been approved by Gen Sharif before his retirement next Tuesday.

The military courts were set up through the 21st Amendment to the Constitution in January 2015, after the tragic Army Public School incident, for a period of two years for speedy trial of terrorism cases. The special courts have so far decided over 200 cases in which 136 people have been given death sentences. Ninety-six others have been awarded life imprisonment.

Only 12 convicts have been executed so far, according to figures available with Dawn.

Military courts would cease to function in January after the expiry of their constitutionally mandated term. Neither the total number of cases referred to military courts by provincial governments nor that of remaining cases is publicly known.

It isn’t clear if a mechanism has been devised to deal with cases that will remain pending after the completion of the constitutional term of the courts.

The government is still undecided about the future of leftover cases from courts established under the Protection of Pakistain Act (PoPA), 2014, another anti-terrorist legislation, which lapsed earlier this year after completing its two-year period.

The faceless myrmidons whose death penalties have been approved by the army chief include Hanifa s/o Umar Zareen (TTP) for kidnapping and slaughtering of Captain Jonaid Khan, Captain Najam Riaz Raja, Naik Shahid Rasool and Lance Naik Shakeel Ahmed during operation in Swat

Tirah Gul s/o Khan and Mohammad Wali s/o Faulad Khan (LI) were found to be involved in the killing of Havildar Noor Mast, Naik Farman Ali, Naik Shabbir Akhtar, Sepoy Humayun, Sepoy Fakhar Alam, Sepoy Ismail and injuries to many other soldiers during an attack on a camp of the Frontier Constabulary in Jhansi Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency

    in 2010.

Zahid Khan s/o Kitab Shah had earlier been given death sentence in the same case.

Others who have been given capital punishment are Khaista Mohammad s/o Abdul Jalil (TTP) for attacks on army personnel and destruction of girls’ schools and phone company tower; Ali Rehman s/o Habibur Rehman, Fazal Ali s/o Fazal Wahid and Mohammad Ali s/o Abdul Rehman (TTP); Nisar Ali s/o Damsaz Khan (TTP); Khial Jan s/o Sayel Jan (LI); and Payo Jan s/o Asal Jan (LI).

    The Grand Turk
Turkey fires 15,000, shuts 375 NGOs in latest coup purge
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Tuesday dismissed over 15,000 state employees and ordered the closure of 375 associations within the state of emergency imposed after the July failed coup, in a purge that shows no sign of slowing.

More than 100,000 people have already been suspended or sacked so far in a crackdown on those alleged to have links to coup-plotters while dozens of media outlets have been shut down.

In the latest government decree published on Tuesday, 7,586 personnel working in the police, including police chiefs and commissioners, were dismissed.

Meanwhile 1,956 soldiers and personnel in the air force and navy were sacked while another 403 were removed from the gendarmerie, which looks after domestic security.

Thousands more were dismissed in government ministries and state institutions, including nearly 3,000 officials in the interior ministry and related institutions.

In total, 15,726 people have been dismissed under the latest decrees.

The dismissals are permitted under the state of emergency, which was extended by another three months in October, and was originally imposed in the wake of the coup.

But its scope has been vehemently criticised by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
    and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
    activists.

The decrees, published in the latest issue of the official gazette, also ordered the closure of 375 associations across the country working on issues ranging from rights to culture to women.

Critics have claimed that the crackdown goes well beyond the suspected coup plotters and targets anyone who has dared show opposition to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
"The closure of nearly 400 NGOs is part of an ongoing and systematic attempt by the Turkish authorities to permanently silence all critical voices," said Amnesia Amnesty International's Europe Director, John Dalhuisen.

Amnesty said the groups closed included lawyers associations working on preventing torture, women's rights groups working against domestic violence and local NGOs helping refugees.

Among those ordered closed is the leading Ankara-based children's rights NGO Gundem Cocuk (The Agenda is Children). The decrees also ordered the closure of nine provincial press outlets and 19 health institutions.

Erdogan indicated in a speech on Tuesday that the purges would continue, saying that not all Gulen supporters had been rooted out of Turkish institutions.

"We know that the state has not been entirely cleared of this treacherous network.

"They are still in our armed forces, our police organizations, inside our judiciary, inside different state institutions," he said.

In a separate development on Tuesday, Turkish authorities detained 20 staff at Silivri jail outside Istanbul accused of using the Bylock messaging app that Ankara says was specially developed by Gulen supporters for the coup plot. Those detained include the head of the prison, named as H.T., it added. Hundreds of suspects rounded up after the coup are being held in the jail.

    India-Pakistan
    LoC violence
[DAWN] THE Line of Control is exploding, and once again the potential for greater conflict is growing. With low-level, cross-LoC violence seemingly ignored outside security circles in both countries and overshadowed by other events globally, there was always the risk of an escalation at a time when neither India nor Pakistain appear to be interested in anything other than hurling accusations at one another. Now that escalation appears to have arrived with several civilian and military casualties on the Pak side -- including three soldiers and nine bus passengers killed by Indian firing and shelling on Wednesday -- and the Indian military claiming one of its soldiers has been beheaded. While the present violence is similar to several other episodes in recent years -- and each episode saw better sense eventually prevail -- when it comes to Pakistain-India relations, and especially the LoC, nothing should be taken for granted. Moreover, the Uri attack in September and the so-called surgical strikes by India in response may have altered the previous dynamic and created dangerous new expectations on the Indian side.

What is clear is that the 2003 ceasefire ought to be returned to at the earliest. It proved to be durable not only because it was sensible and both sides were committed to its implementation, but because it was rooted in an understanding that LoC violence hurts local populations and always carries the risk of a wider conflagration. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared to not understand or appreciate the delicate balance in place along the LoC when, soon after assuming office, he not only ordered disproportionate Indian military responses across the LoC but also allowed government officials to boast about it. Now, with India-held Kashmire roiled by protests and under a suffocating curfew for months, New Delhi is making a thinly veiled attempt to shift domestic and international -- to the extent it exists -- attention away from India’s problems and towards the old ruse of escalating Pakistain-India tensions.

Here the temptation may be to believe that the imminent transition at the top of the army leadership and the election of a hawkish presidential candidate in the US has given Modi-led India further incentive to test Pakistain’s resolve. It is a temptation because, whether true or not, it deflects from what Pakistain does need to do: hold its nerve along the LoC; work towards a quick de-escalation of the latest violence; and continue with the diplomatic mission of highlighting the Kashmire dispute and the latest repressive measures by India in IHK. If, instead, the language of brinkmanship, retaliation and counter-retaliation is allowed to prevail, Pakistain too will be hurt. Internal security priorities are paramount while the external situation is brittle -- the state of Pakistain must not allow itself to be goaded or distracted by Indian provocations.

ATC sentences five to death over burning alive Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan in 2014
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday sentenced five men to death on two counts for their involvement in the burning alive of a Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan in 2014.

ATC-I Judge Chaudhry Muhammad Azam imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on the five men identified as Mehdi Khan, Riaz Kambo, Irfan Shakoor, Muhammad Hanif, and Hafiz Ishtiaq ─ a local prayer leader ─ for their involvement in the lynching.

Eight others have also been charged with involvement in the lynching and sentenced to two years each in prison.

The eight men were identified as Muhammad Hussain, Noorul Hasan, Muhammad Arsalan, Muhammad Haris, Muhammad Muneer, Muhammad Ramazan, Irfan and Hafiz Shahid.

    A challan
    ... list of charges ...
submitted in court claimed the five men handed the death penalty gathered a large mob of hundreds by making announcements over a mosque loudspeaker and incited them to violence with incendiary speech.

    Kot Radha Kishan lynching
A mob of around 400 people lynched Shahzad and Shama for their alleged role in desecrating the Holy Koran in November 2014. Both husband and wife were brick kiln workers from Chak-59 of Kot Radha Kishan, a town in Kasur district. The woman, mother of three, was pregnant.

Police and witnesses told Dawn in Nov 2014 that announcements had been made from mosques on Tuesday asking villagers to gather at the Yousaf brick kiln where 25-year-old Shama and her husband Shahzad Masih worked as bonded labourers.

Over 1,000 charged people from three villages took out the couple from a room (where they had taken shelter) after tearing apart its roof.

The mob tortured the couple before putting them into the kiln’s furnace.

The mob held hostage five coppers who tried to rescue the couple. The villagers also manhandled some media personnel and snatched their cameras.

Police started the paperwork but haven't done much else against 660 villagers, including 60 who were nominated in a First Information Report lodged on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ali of Chowki Factory Area.

The FIR said the mob had thrashed the couple and dragged them to a kiln where Mohammad Yousaf Gujar, the kiln owner, and his accountants Shakeel and Afzal, allegedly removed a lid from one of the openings of the furnace and threw the couple into it.

"Both Shama and Shahzad were reduced to ashes in no time," the FIR stated.

    'No one listened to her'
Bilqees, a local Moslem resident, recounted the horrific incident to Dawn in 2014.

She said that Shama, known in the village as Saima, married Shahzad Masih about 10 years ago. They had three children aged between two and seven. She said Shama was pregnant at the time of the incident.

Nazir Masih, father-in-law of Shama, was a faith healer and died a few weeks ago. After his death, Shama had burnt some of his belongings, including papers. She added that Shama was illiterate.

Bilqees said a vendor who had visited the brick kiln found the pages of the Holy Koran and showed them to the villagers.

Later on Tuesday morning, hundreds of villagers gathered at the kiln and burnt the couple alive without even listening to Shama.

"She was screaming that she was unaware of what the papers were about, but no one listened to her," Bilqees said.

    International uproar
The lynching of Shama and Shehzad caused international uproar. In 2014, A top Vatican official described the lynching of the couple as a humiliation for all of humanity.

Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the chair of the Roman Catholic church's council for interfaith dialogue, had said he was profoundly shocked by accounts of the horrific death of Shehzad and Shama.

"How can we remain impassive before such crimes, justified in the name of religion?," Tauran had earlier said on Vatican Radio, urging Moslem leaders in Pakistain to vigorously condemn the killings.

"It is all of humanity that is humiliated," he had said, adding: "The first victims are in fact Moslems because these misdeeds give an image of Islam that is terrible."

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla./WASHINGTON (Reuters) ‐ Donald Trump on Wednesday named South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a former critic with little foreign policy experience, to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations at a time of uncertainty over America’s international role under his presidency.

Haley, one of two women chosen so far for a job in Trump’s Cabinet, is "a proven dealmaker, and we look to be making plenty of deals. She will be a great leader representing us on the world stage," the Republican president-elect said in a statement.

The 44-year-old daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley represents what some Republicans hope could be the new face of their party: a younger, more diverse generation of leaders.

Haley took Trump strongly to task during the presidential campaign over his harsh rhetoric about illegal immigration and for not speaking forcefully enough against white supremacists.

Trump has chosen mostly male conservatives so far for senior positions as he shapes his administration following his victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 election. Trump takes over from Democratic President Barack Obama on Jan. 20.

Also on Wednesday, a spokesman for former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said Trump had not offered the retired neurosurgeon the post of housing and urban development secretary, disputing a Wall Street Journal report, which the newspaper later corrected.

"Trump did not make an offer," Carson spokesman Armstrong Williams told Reuters. "He asked him to consider HUD. Nothing has been offered and no decision has made."

The Journal, citing two people familiar with the deliberations, also reported that Trump was expected to pick billionaire investor Wilbur Ross as commerce secretary.

In a video message released ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Trump said he hoped the holiday would be an occasion for Americans "to begin to heal our divisions" following a "long and bruising political campaign."

"Emotions are raw and tensions just don’t heal overnight," Trump said. "Now begins a great national campaign to rebuild our country and to restore the full promise of America for all of our people."

#2  ....As Governor (Ambassador-designate) Haley works just a few blocks down the road from me, let me make a few comments:

    - She's VERY well regarded here in SC.
    - One tough and smart lady.
    - Has kicked a big hole in the 'good ol' boy'
    network down here.
    - Unashamedly and unabashedly loves her country (Unlike the current office holder)
    - Underestimated at one's own peril.

On the other hand, the President-elect has made a smart call -

    - She's female, minority, and the child of an immigrant family.
    - She's now IN the administration, and that's just taken her out as a possible primary threat in '20 in the event things go south.
    - If she does even remotely well, she'll be well positioned to go after Lindsey Graham's seat.

Ohio man gets 20 years prison for Islamic State-linked attack plot
[FINANCIALEXPRESS] A southwest Ohio man who admitted to having plotted to execute a U.S. military base employee and then attack a local cop shoppe in support of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years in prison, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Munir Abdulkader, 22, from the Cincinnati suburb of West Chester, had pleaded guilty on March 24 to attempted murder of a government employee, attempted material support of a foreign terrorist organization and illegal firearm possession.

U.S. District Judge Michael Barrett in Cincinnati imposed the prison term, and ordered that Abdulkader remain under supervision for life. Prosecutors had sought a 25-year prison term. A federal public defender representing Abdulkader did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Abdulkader, who became a U.S. citizen in 2006 and had been a student at Xavier University, had begun by July 2014 expressing support for the Islamic State on Twitter, including a desire for martyrdom, according to prosecutors.

The defendant also communicated electronically with Junaid Hussain, an Islamic State member who encouraged him to conduct a violent attack in the United States, prosecutors said.

Hussain was a British hacker who U.S. and European officials had regarded as a top computer expert for Islamic State in Syria and a supporter of "lone wolf" attacks, before he was killed in an August 2015 U.S. dronezap.

Prosecutors said Abdulkader planned to murder the military official at home, videotape the killing so it could be used in Islamic State propaganda, and then use firearms and Molotov cocktails to attack a cop shoppe in the Cincinnati area.

    Abdulkader was nabbed
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
on May 21, 2015, the same day he acquired an AK-47 assault rifle, court papers show. The case is U.S. v. Abdulkader, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio, No. 16-cr-00019.
West Chester is a lovely outer suburb of Cincinnati with an award winning public school system and all the amenities one moves to the suburbs to get, though it is still in the process of converting farmland to cul de sacs after 20 years. The population has the kind of diversity one would expect in New York City rather than the middle of the American Midwest. The Cincinnati Enquirer has more about our miscreant:
At the hearing in federal court, Munir Abdulkader, 22, apologized for supporting terrorism and for the specific plots.

"I don't know how I let myself get to that extent," said Abdulkader, who graduated from Lakota East High School and spent two years at Xavier University. He spoke confidently, sounding more like a college student than a would-be terrorist.

He also apologized to the family of the unnamed U.S. military veteran who Abdulkader's "handler" for the Islamic State terror group had identified and targeted.

"I apologize to the soldier and his family, if I caused them any sort of panic or fear," he said, standing at a lectern, wearing an orange-and-white-striped jail uniform.

Abdulkader’s family is originally from Eritrea in eastern Africa. Officials have said he was born there and became a citizen in 2006, although his mother told an interviewer that Abdulkader was born in the United States and has never left the country. She said they moved to West Chester from New York City in 2009.
A July Cincinnati Enquirer article adds:
Munir Abdulkader was a student at Xavier University when, according to court documents, he began expressing support for the terror group ISIL and said he wanted to attain martyrdom.

On Twitter, he posted a training video and lamented that his cousin had died fighting for ISIL, the documents say. The Twitter posts began in 2014 and continued into 2015.

He became a citizen in 2006, when he was 11 years old, officials said.

When he graduated from Lakota East High School in 2013, his name was Munir Abdulkadir Mohammed. Officials did not explain why his name is different in court documents.

Six Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Attack in Cameroon

[AnNahar] An attack by Nigeria's Boko Haram jihadists against a Lake Chad army base manned by an anti-insurgent regional force has left six Cameroonian soldiers dead, a military source said Tuesday. A civilian from a vigilante group working with security forces to combat Boko Haram incursions was also killed, another security source said.

"Boko Haram attacked a base of the Mixed Multinational Force on the island of Darak (on Lake Chad) at around 2200 (2100 GMT)" on Monday, said the source, who asked not to be named. He said six soldiers had been killed.

Boko Haram frequently travel around the many islands of Lake Chad, which borders northeast Nigeria, the far north of Cameroon, Niger and Chad.

Leaders: Boko Haram besieging villages in Chibok area

[Ynet] Local leaders say Boko Haram fighters are overrunning villages near the northeast Nigerian town of Chibok, forcing hundreds more people to flee as they loot and burn the area where nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped in 2014.

Chibok local government chairman Yaga Yarkawa says nine villages within 25 kilometers of Chibok town have been razed in two weeks. Civilian defense fighter Bulama Abogu says he doesn't know if anyone has been killed because people are too scared to investigate.

Their accounts, along with multiple suicide bombings in Maiduguri city and attacks on army outposts, raise doubts about military and government claims that the 7-year-old insurgency is nearly defeated. Instead, Nigeria's homegrown Islamic extremists have stepped up attacks as the rainy season draws to an end.

Up to 1 mln people cut off from aid by Boko Haram in Lake Chad: U.N.

[AlAhram] Up to a million people around West Africa's Lake Chad are cut off from humanitarian aid by Boko Haram despite a regional military offensive against the Islamist militants, a United Nations official said on Tuesday.

Boko Haram violence has uprooted more than 100,000 people across the swamplands of Lake Chad, where the borders of Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria meet, and disrupted the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of others, according to aid agencies.

Security sources say a regional task force is wrestling back control of the lake - where Boko Haram controls part of the fishing industry in a labyrinth of waterways - with hundreds of militants having surrendered in the past month.

Yet many areas are impossible to reach amid the insecurity, said Toby Lanzer, U.N. humanitarian coordinator for the Sahel.

Obama team in despair over General Mike Flynn pick
    [Newsweek] The Associated Press reports:

As Obama hopped from capital to capital, news of the emerging Trump administration followed him, dominating news conferences and private meetings with leaders.... Each time Air Force One landed in another foreign capital, cellphones buzzed and White House officials’ faces fell as the latest news came in about Trump’s team-in-waiting....

The selections deflated the hopes in the White House that Trump, faced with the awesome duty of running the nation, might tone it down after the campaign.

Of all the Trump’s choices, White House officials said it was the selection of Flynn that felt like the most devastating blow, given the immense authority the national security adviser has over matters of war and peace.

By the time Obama arrived in Peru, the creeping sense of despair among his aides was palpable.

Red Electrons: Army Rapid Capabilities Office Fights Russian GPS Jamming, Cyber, EW
[BreakingDefense.com] WASHINGTON: The Army’s new Rapid Capabilities Office is focused like a laser on Russian threats to Army networks: both cyber attack (hacking) and electronic warfare (jamming), in particular against the GPS signal on which US forces rely.

I’ve written before that a $100 million boost to electronic warfare might be an early priority for the new RCO, whose charter is to speed new equipment into service over a one to five-year time-frame, and whose agenda is personally set by Army Secretary Eric Fanning and the Chief of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley. What I did not realize until I sat down with Maj. Gen. Walter Piatt, the RCO operations director, was how thoroughly EW, cyber, and GPS -- three closely related fields -- dominate that agenda.

Indeed, they dominate it to the exclusion of other high-profile Army projects. Air defense against small drones? "That’s not being run by our office, but we’re certainly watching the progress of that," Piatt told me. The anti-ship variant of the ATACMS artillery missile? We’re "not in charge of that one, (but) certainly a supporting effort."

Likewise, I hadn’t realized how closely the RCO was focused on Russia, as opposed to, say, China, North Korea, Iran, or the Islamic State. While Gen. Milley has explicitly said Russia is the most dangerous of the big five threats, it’s a fraught question whether that focus will survive the rise of Donald Trump. The President-Elect has expressed his admiration for Vladimir Putin and appointed a National Security Advisor, retired Army Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, who says we should collaborate with Russia against the Islamic State, which they see as the real No. 1 threat.

Kapanke files for recount, alleges errors
[LACROSSETRIBUNE] Republican Dan Kapanke has requested a recount, alleging mistakes occurred in his bid to unseat state Sen. Jennifer Shilling. In a petition filed Wednesday with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, Kapanke states that counting mistakes were committed in each of the more than 130 voting wards of the 32nd Senate District. Shilling, of La Crosse, won by just 56 votes.

Kapanke also says that a voter arrived at the polls "only to discover that someone else had signed the poll book in the spot next to the elector’s name." The petition did not say where that happened or whether the voter was able to cast a ballot.

Kapanke’s campaign said in a statement Tuesday that he decided to request a recount because the results were so close. A campaign front man said Wednesday there would be no additional statements issued until the recount is complete.

Shilling, who was re-elected Tuesday as her party’s leader in the Senate, issued a statement saying the vote total did not change during the canvass process and she is focused on "moving Wisconsin forward."

Local elections officials will begin recounting more than 89,000 ballots on Monday. Clerks in Crawford, La Crosse, Monroe and Vernon counties estimate it will take two to six days to complete.

About 70 percent of the votes were cast in La Crosse County, and more than a third were absentee ballots, which take more time to process as poll workers must check the names on the envelopes against voter rolls.

County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer estimates it will cost the county at least $10,000.

    -Lurid Crime Tales-
German Man Cheats Recycling Machine Out of Over $47,000 Using a Single Bottle
[OddityCentral.com] A drinks vendor in Cologne, Germany was recently tried and convicted to ten months in prison for modifying a bottle recycling machine and cheating the swindling several tens of thousands of euros from the national recycling system.

Bottle-recycling machines in Germany are fairly straightforward ‐ a person inserts one or more bottles into the machine and they receive a receipt for a few euro-cents, or euros, depending on the number of bottles recycled. But in a case presented in front of a Cologne court last week, one recycling machine ended up paying a whopping €44,362.75 ($47,000) without recycling a single bottle. It turns out that an unnamed local drinks vendor managed to modify one such recycling machine located in the basement of his shop so that he could earn a lot more than the usual spare change. Evidence presented during the trial showed that the 37-year-old defendant had installed a magnet sensor and a kind of wooden tunnel into the machine, which allowed him to insert the bottle into the mechanism, receive his receipt and then retrieve the bottle without it actually getting shredded inside.

If you’re wondering how many times the man had to insert and retrieve that one bottle to earn a total of $47,000, the exact number is 177,451 times. The judge presiding over this case called the scam a "logistical master stroke", adding that must have "done nothing else every day other than attend to the machine." And while it is unknown exactly how long it took the drinks vendor to repeat the process 177,451, he did have this to say on the matter: "I had a radio next to it because otherwise it was really boring."
    heh
The defendant revealed that he had invested around €5,000 in modifying the machine, which is very little money compared to how much he was able to earn from the scam. And he would have probably reached a six figure sum if he had just kept his mouth shut about it. According to the Kölner Stadt Anzeiger newspaper, the Deutsche Pfandsystem Gesellschaft, the company responsible for bottle-recycling machine distribution and payments across Germany, hadn’t even noticed anything fishy about this particular machine until an undercover detective received an anonymous tip-off about it.

The detective responsible for uncovering the money swindling operation told reporters that this scam is unlikely to be a one-off, and that the recycling system is probably suffering losses into the millions of euros. The defendant’s lawyer also stated in court that her client "did not invent the scam, but merely copied it."
    heh

    India-Pakistan
'We reserve the right to respond'
[DAWN] Contact between the DGMOs of Pakistain and India was established today, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Pakistain Army DGMO demarched his Indian counterpart regarding the earlier targeting of a civilian bus on the Pak side of the disputed border.

"We reserve the right to respond at the time and place of our choosing," said Pakistain’s DGMO, added the ISPR statement.

Iran to buy new fighter jets
Purchasing new fighter jets is on the agenda of Iran’s army, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, the second-in-command of Iranian Army, said.

The Iranian army has plans to upgrade the capabilities of its Air Force by purchasing new fighter jets, Pourdastan said, Fars news agency reported Nov. 23. He further said that the Air Force of the Islamic Republic has overhauled its fighters as well and is fully prepared to respond threats at any point.
Which is why they want new ones...

    Terror suspect arrested with explosives
[DAWN] BAHAWALPUR: The CTD claimed to have placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
    a terror suspect on Tuesday.

According to a CTD front man, a team raided a house near Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
Morr and arrested Muhammad Yaseen, a resident of Bhakkar. He was affiliated with the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
    (LJ).

The front man claimed the suspect was planning a terrorist activity at some Imambargah
...since Pakistain is very religiously correct, Shia Moslems can't call their houses of worship 'mosques,' which are reserved for Sunnis. It's not clear if imambargahs are used for explosives storage like mosques are...

Iraq Says It Will Participate in OPEC Deal to Cut Output
[BLOOMBERG] Iraq will shoulder part of the burden of oil-output cuts, said Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, reversing the nation’s previous insistence for an exemption and potentially removing an obstacle to an OPEC deal next week.

"Iraq will cut its output to preserve prices," al-Abadi told news hounds in Baghdad on Wednesday. The country wants OPEC to reduce production by a total of 900,000 barrels a day when it meets next week in Vienna because low prices are hurting global investment in the industry, he said.

The premier’s statement could improve the chances that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will implement its September pledge to reduce crude output to remove a global oversupply and boost prices. OPEC failed to finalize the details of supply curbs Tuesday, largely because of Iran and Iraq’s resistance to making any reductions. The government in Baghdad had argued that it needs all possible resources for its fight against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
OPEC agreed on Sept. 28 in Algiers to reduce output to 32.5 million to 33 million barrels a day. OPEC estimates it pumped 33.6 million barrels a day last month, meaning a 900,000 barrel cut would place production in the middle of that range.

A $1 increase in the price of oil boosts Iraq’s revenues by $1 billion a year, al-Abadi said. "If OPEC cuts down output at 1 million barrels a day, this will help prices to go up and Iraq will make gains from this," he said.

Male bovine scatalogical material. The Iranians, after just getting production UNsanctioned, aren't going to throttle it back again. Not to mention that as soon as this is approved and prices do their reflexive upwards twitch, the sound of the fracker will be heard again in the land.

Two more polio cases in Sindh confirmed
[DAWN] KARACHI: Two baby girls from Badin and Sujawal districts were detected to have been suffering from the crippling disease of polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
virus, officials at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for Polio in Sindh confirmed on Tuesday.

The total number of polio victims detected this year in Sindh has reached seven, while 59 cases have been reported since 2013.

Sindh EOC coordinator Fayaz Jatoi said both the girls, aged 18 months and 11 months, had received multiple doses of polio vaccine. "The 18-month-old girl from Sujawal had received one polio dose during routine and six during special campaigns, while the other baby had three doses of polio vaccine during routine immunisation drives and five during our campaigns," he added. One of them had an onset of polio on Nov 3, as her both legs were affected, the official said.

Their stool samples had been sent to the National Institute of Health, Islamabad. Unfortunately, they had been confirmed as the fresh cases of polio," said Mr Jatoi.

Officials said 59 polio cases had been reported in Sindh since 2013. Ten cases, eight in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and two elsewhere in Sindh, were reported in 2013, while the figure increased to 30 in 2014 when Karachi accounted for 23 cases and the remaining seven surfaced in other parts of Sindh. Twelve cases were documented last year.

The national tally of polio cases has climbed to 18.

North Carolina Gov. McCrory won’t concede, seeks recount
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Two weeks after the vote, the election still isn’t over in North Carolina. Gov. Pat McCrory, a Republican, formally requested a recount Tuesday after filing more than 50 challenges alleging voter fraud as the latest tally showed him trailing his Democratic rival, Attorney General Roy Cooper, by anywhere from 7,000 to 9,000 votes.

A recount would go into effect if the candidates are separated by fewer than 10,000 votes after all ballots are tabulated in a race with nearly 4.7 million votes cast.

While Democrats have pressured Mr. McCrory to concede, saying he has little chance of making up the deficit, the governor’s campaign has countered with examples of voter fraud, including ballots cast by dead people, ineligible felons and those also voting in other states.

"With many outstanding votes yet to be counted for the first time, legal challenges, ballot protests and voter-fraud allegations, we must keep open the ability to allow the established recount process to ensure every legal vote is counted properly," McCrory campaign manager Russell Peck said in a statement.

9/11 mastermind: Al Qaeda favors 'immigration' to defeat USA

Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
architect of 9/11 revealed that al Qaeda's plan to kill the United States was not through military attacks but immigration and "outbreeding nonmuslims" who would use the legal system to install Sharia law, according to a blockbuster new book.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed also predicted that intelligence officials using so-called "enhanced interrogation" techniques such the waterboarding he experienced would eventually come under attack from weak-kneed U.S. politicians and media.

If the rest of the book is as good as the hook in this article...it may be a game changer.
