VA Firefighter Under Fire After Arrest for Anarchist Violence in D.C. Inauguration Protests
[Breitbart] A firefighter from Henrico County, Virginia, is under fire herself after being arrested for taking part in anarchist rioting during the inauguration of Donald J. Trump, reports say.

Officials acknowledge that firefighter Rosa Roncales has been placed on administrative duties after being arrested on inauguration day, January 20. Roncales was charged with felony rioting and causing damage in excess of $100,000, CBS Channel 6 reported.

Police in Washington D.C. were monitoring the anarchist group Roncales was associating with that day, court documents reveal.

Officials said the group to which Roncales belonged was coursing through the streets dressed in black and armed with bats and hammers. Around 10:00 a.m. on January 20, the group began to smash windows, set fires, and engage in other vandalism.

Officers said the actions were observed for nearly a half hour before they moved in to make arrests. It was at this time that Roncales was swept up by police.

Henrico County Fire Department officials said Roncales was still employed pending the outcome of the legal case against her. The firefighter’s next appearance in court is set for March 9.

Schumer and dems vow to introduce legislation overturning immigration order
[Reuters] U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer on Sunday demanded that President Donald Trump reverse an executive order targeting immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries, saying it makes the United States appear "less humanitarian, less safe, less American."

"It must be reversed immediately, and Democrats are going to introduce legislation to overturn it," Schumer said in New York.

Schumer also said he had been told by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly that 42 people now detained at U.S. airports would be processed and allowed to enter the country under a court order issued on Saturday night. Schumer said Kelly also told him Trump's executive order would not affect green card holders, which contradicts previous administration statements.

Surveillance footage shows attack on bus driver thwarted by cane-wielding Good Samaritan
[FOX-4) KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The city said that bus never made it to its next bus stop because one of its riders started acting strange and then attacked the woman driving the bus.

A senior citizen stepped in and began hitting the bus driver's assailant with his cane. Surveillance footage shows the attack happening near 35th and Troost. The attacker can be seen approaching the bus driver and harassing her.

Then he takes it to the next level.

He grabs her from behind, wrapping his arms around neck while she screams for him to stop. "Get your hands off of me!" she can be heard saying in the video. "Wait a minute! Wait a minute!"

Suddenly, a man sitting on the bus springs into action. He rushes to the front of the bus and starts to beat the attacker off the woman with his cane. When the attacker tried to get back on the bus, the Good Samaritan had a strong message for him.

"Come on! I got something else for you! Come on! Get over here!" the man calls out the attacker. The attacker stayed off the bus. Eventually, police arrived on the scene and arrested him.

That Good Samaritan broke his cane in half in the scuffle. Now the city wants to buy him a new one as a way to thank him. They also want to give him some transportation vouchers.

If you know who that Good Samaritan was that stepped in to help the driver, you can contact RideKC.

10 Injured in Tennessee National Guard Armory 'Party' Shooting
[ABC] Authorities say 10 people in western Tennessee were injured in a shooting at a party at a National Guard Armory.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Susan Niland says the shooting in Brownsville occurred before midnight Friday when a fight broke out at the armory. Authorities believe the facility had been rented out for a party.
Nothing good ever takes place at that hour of the night does it Susan ?
Niland says the victims, including two juveniles and eight adults, were transported to Jackson General Hospital. Two are expected to be transported to The Med in Memphis with non-life threatening injuries.

Niland says seven others were treated for injuries and have been released, or are in the process of being released. The scene at the armory has been cleared.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Brownsville Police Department are still investigating the shooting.

#6  I know what went thru My mind

II.went down to the mountain, I was drinking some wine,
Looked up in the heavens Lord I saw a mighty sign,
Written fire across the heaven, plain as black and white;
Get prepared, there's gonna be a party tonight.

[Chorus]
Huh, Hey! Saturday Night!
Yea, huh one more Saturday night,
Hey Saturday night!

Everybody's dancin' down the local armory
With a basement full of dynamite and live artillery.
The temperature keeps risin', everybody gittin' high;
Come the rockin' stroke of midnite, the whole place gonna fly.

[Chorus]

Turn on channel six, the President comes on the news,
Says, "I get no satisfaction, that's why I sing the blues."
His wife say "Don't get crazy, Lord, you know just what to do,
Crank up that old Victrola, put on them rockin' shoes."

[Chorus]

Then God way up in heaven, for whatever it was worth,
Thought He'd have a big old party, thought He'd call it planet Earth.
Don't worry about tomorrow, Lord, you'll know it when it comes,
When the rock and roll music meets the risin' sun.

Trump's Exclusion of Aliens from Specific Countries Is Legal
[National Review] n Friday, President Donald Trump issued an executive order calling for heightened vetting of certain foreign nationals seeking entry into the United States. The order temporarily suspends entry by the nationals of seven Muslim-majority countries: Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen. It is to last for 90 days, while heightened vetting procedures are developed.

The order has predictably prompted intense protest from critics of immigration restrictions (most of whom are also critics of Trump). At the New York Times, the Cato Institute’s David J. Bier claims the temporary suspension is illegal because, in his view, it flouts the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

This contention is meritless, both constitutionally and as a matter of statutory law. Let’s start with the Constitution, which vests all executive power in the president. Under the Constitution, as Thomas Jefferson wrote shortly after its adoption, "the transaction of business with foreign nations is Executive altogether.

It belongs then to the head of that department, except as to such portions of it as are specifically submitted to the Senate. Exceptions are to be construed strictly." The rare exceptions Jefferson had in mind, obviously, were such matters as the approval of treaties, which Article II expressly vests in the Senate.

There are also other textual bases for a congressional role in foreign affairs, such as Congress’s power over international commerce, to declare war, and to establish the qualifications for the naturalization of citizens. That said, when Congress legislates in this realm, it must do so mindful of what the Supreme Court, in United States v. Curtiss-Wright (1936), famously described as "the very delicate, plenary and exclusive power of the President as the sole organ of the federal government in the field of international relations ‐ a power which does not require as a basis for its exercise an act of Congress."

Trump's EPA Secretary Will Have ‘16,000 Employees Working Against Him'
[Daily Caller] PALM SPRINGS, CALIF. -- When likely EPA Secretary Scott Pruitt walks into his first day at the office, "He’ll have 16,000 employees working against him," Sen. James Lankford told a large gathering of libertarian donors Saturday evening.

"And I expect a flood of lawsuits over everything he does."

Pruitt, who has been nominated to lead the EPA by President Donald Trump, is the attorney general of Lankford’s state, Oklahoma. He has faced fierce opposition from the environmentalist left.

Lankford, who chairs the Senate Oversight Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Health Care and Entitlements, was joined on stage by Sens. Mike Lee and Pat Toomey. Their panel, moderated by Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips, was during a dinner on day one of Charles and David Koch’s libertarian Seminar Network in Palm Springs, Calif.

President Trump's Immigration Ban is Magnificently Right
President Trump kicked over a hornet's nest by imposing a 90-ban on immigration from selected Muslim countries in keeping with his campaign pledges. Andrew McCarthy, the federal prosecutor who convicted the Blind Sheikh and his accomplices of the first World Trade Center bombing, explains why the ban is legal--despite a federal judge's restraining order against implementation of the order. I'll leave it to the legal experts to explain why this is yet another outrageous abuse of power by the judiciary.

The legal issues will be sorted out soon enough. It's the right policy, despite liberal whining and some conservative complaints.

The liberals claim that the immigration halt will convince Muslims that the US administration isn't fighting ISIS and other terrorists, but Muslims as a religious group. Some conservatives, e.g. Walter Russell Mead, call it "callous." The latter characterization is misleading. It is callous towards individual Muslims but merciful to American citizens, who have the right to go about their business without fear of mass terrorist attacks. In Europe, the elites accept a certain level of terrorism as the cost of doing business, and the people grudgingly accept it. Americans don't see why they should sacrifice their safety or sense of security to accommodate the hurt feelings of other people. Prof. Mead compares this to America's refusal to accept Jewish immigrants during the Holocaust. I respect Mead, but I find the comparison offensive: How many Jewish refugees from Hitler murdered civilians at random (the answer is, not one)?

Trump really needs to push this through. It's the only way to win the war on terror. everything else is a distraction

He means it
h/t Instapundit
He means it. The President of the United States of America Donald Trump says he will use the power of his office to tear up the post-WWII international and domestic settlements. No more world policeman, spending blood and treasure to protect nations that won't defend themselves. No more nation-building. No more hapless victim of a trading order that disadvantages American workers. No more stunting growth with confiscatory taxes and miles of red tape. No more allowing concern for the environment to outweigh the need to beef up our infrastructure and create jobs. This is to be a new post-globalized world order in which he will put America First.

And now, not tomorrow. In the past few days the president has cleared the way for construction of the Dakota Access and the Keystone XL pipelines, the latter a project to bring Canadian oil to the U.S. from Canada, and one that President Obama vetoed despite its approval by his own Hillary Clinton-led State Department. He has given his Commerce Department 180 days to develop a plan to ensure that the pipelines are built with made-in-America steel. He has told agents at the Department of Homeland Security that they are to enforce the law against illegal immigrants, starting with the deportation of criminals, and to join him in planning construction of "the beautiful wall" on our southern border. He has begun the unravelling of Obamacare. He has met with a few gaggles of CEOs, separately with those from the auto industry, and with heads of trade unions, the latter a group until now bound to the Democratic party with hoops of steel. He has fired the opening shot in a war to keep terrorists from entering the country. And more.

Some of these moves are of more symbolic than practical consequence. But the whole is greater than the sum of the parts: taken together, they make attending to every jot and tittle of Trump declarations and tweets a waste of time. We are on the road to a new world order.

UK Socialized Medicine Meltdown
When what became Obamacare was first proposed, some of its architects and primary proponents urged that we adopt cost controls akin to those imposed by the UK’s socialized National Health Service.

Bad idea. The NHS is in such terrible shape that it is rationing hip and knee replacements. If you can struggle through the day despite the pain, no surgery for you!

...If a private insurance company tried to so restrict needed care, there would be hell to pay and lawyers lining up like kids at a ride in Disneyland to file their lawsuits. But when the government is making these calls, there is little recourse.

Airlines At Beirut Implement Measures in Line With Trump Travel Ban
Airlines operating at Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport have begun implementing measures in compliance with US President Donald Trump's travel ban on refugees and nationals of seven Muslim-majority countries, airport sources said on Sunday.

The measures would include denying US-bound travel for nationals from those countries - Syria, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Sudan, Libya and Yemen - who were not US green card holders, the sources said.

US-bound journeys from Beirut typically involve transfers in Europe, Turkey or Gulf Arab countries.

#1  Original post from 2004, last update January 21, 2017.

I can see the utility of this, but the more people see things like this, the more likely the jihadis are to be skeptical of claims of being Muslim by Westerners and therefore the more demanding they will be of proofs. It's an endlessly receding goal. Better to destroy them definitively now.

#6  Asked to elaborate on why the group is targeting Hollywood out of all the industries in the country as their bargaining chip, the spokesperson argued that Hollywood “is, simply put, the base of the entire modern American culture. It is the foundation of the country, so to speak, the glue that’s holding it together. And think about what happens when you destroy the foundation of a house. It comes crashing down, right? Well, that’s exactly what’s going to happen to America unless Donald Trump realizes how real the danger of that actually is, and chooses to step down as President of his own free will. And while we’re on the subject, between you and me – nobody wants Hollywood to stop doing its thing, but this is a necessary move.”

Border, ICE agents cheer Trump actions
[Washington Examiner] President Trump's decision to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and stop the free flow of refugees until they can be vetted better is reviving the morale of customs and border agents, according to the union representing both.

"Morale amongst our agents and officers has increased exponentially," said a joint statement from the National Border Patrol Council and National ICE Council.

"The men and women of ICE and Border Patrol will work tirelessly to keep criminals, terrorists, and public safety threats out of this country, which remains the number one target in the world ‐ and President Trump's actions now empower us to fulfill this life saving mission, and it will indeed save thousands of lives and billions of dollars," it added.

The statement on behalf of the agents for the immigration, customs and border protection was a powerful endorsement of Trump's action as he his under fire from critics of his actions.

Czech President's Spokesman: ‘Trump Protects His Country, Exactly What EU Elites Do Not Do'
[Breitbart] Jiří Ovčáček, spokesman for Czech president Miloš Zeman, says that the U.S. is now an ally of the Slavic republic in the fight against mass immigration, contending that President Donald Trump is, unlike "EU elites", concerned primarily "with the safety of his citizens".

Ovčáček was defending the swift implementation of an executive order by the U.S. president on ’Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Attacks by Foreign Nationals’, which temporarily prohibits all asylum seekers from entering the United States and indefinitely prohibits Syrian asylum seekers from entering the United States while a thorough review of the refugee vetting process is undertaken.

"Trump protects his country," Ovčáček wrote in a tweet, "he’s concerned with the safety of his citizens. Exactly what EU elites do not do".

Yahoo: ACLU wins legal challenge against immigration ban: ‘Hope Trump enjoys losing'
[Free Republic] The American Civil Liberties Union announced Saturday evening that a federal court in New York had issued an emergency stay on President Trump’s executive order banning immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries. The court’s decision, which will affect people who have been detained in airports, came after the ACLU and other activist groups filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of two Iraqis who were held at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as a result of the order.
Obama appointee Judge Ann Donnelly pictured here with Schumer wrote the stay.
"I hope Trump enjoys losing. He’s going to lose so much we’re going to get sick and tired of his losing," ACLU national political director Faiz Shakir told Yahoo News shortly after the decision was announced.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the court ruling.

Former Nineveh governor has arrest warrant put against him
[ALMASDARNEWS] Atheel al-Nujaifi, the former Nineveh governor, has had an arrest warrant put against him by Iraqi authority, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said on Saturday.

"Orders have been made to arrest Atheel al-Nujaifi if he is found in the eastern side (of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
)," JOC front man Yahia Rasoul said in a statement.

Al-Nujaifi has been accused of facilitating the ISIS takeover of Mosul by being complacent in their rapid capture of the city.

He is also accused of collaborating with the Turkish military by allowing them to be deployed in Iraq.

Secret Service puts agent who decried taking 'a bullet' for Trump on paid leave
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The Secret Service has placed the senior special agent who wrote a Facebook post decrying "taking a bullet" for Trump on administrative leave while the agency investigates her social media activities.

An agency spokeswoman on Friday afternoon informed the Washington Examiner of the management action, which takes the agent off the job with pay while the investigation proceeds.

The move is a sign that the agency is taking the investigation against Kerry O'Grady, the agent who wrote the Facebook post, seriously. Critics, however, question why it took the agency three months and a report in the Washington Examiner earlier this week for it to initiate the probe.

On Wednesday night, the Secret Service announced that it was formally investigating the special agent who suggested on Facebook that she would rather endure "jail time" than take "a bullet" for Trump.

Below, Emmett reveals the truth behind five common misconceptions about the Secret Service.

Of all federal law enforcement agencies, the Secret Service is perhaps the least understood and the most enigmatic. Below are some of the most prevalent myths that have come to my attention over the years.

Myth 3: Secret Service agents swear an oath to die for the president.

Fact: This myth is one of the most prevalent of all—and it’s a complete urban legend. Secret Service agents only take the oath to become an agent. The willingness to possibly be called upon to sacrifice one’s life for that of the office of the presidency is simply understood, with no official oath or affirmation required.

Syrian Army kills scores of ISIS terrorists while liberating new hilltops in Qalamoun Mountains

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. Led by the Qalamoun Shield of the 3rd Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army advanced along the eastern slopes, liberating several hilltops after swiftly sweeping through the Islamic State's defenses on Saturday.

According to an al-Masdar field correspondent in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army liberated a number hilltops in the Qalamoun Mountains, including Tal al-Dab` al-Sharqi after a fierce battle with the Islamic State.

The al-Masdar correspondent added that dozens of Islamic State bad boyz were potted during the assault; this forces them to retreat to the al-Barada area of the Homs countryside.

As a result of these gains, the Syrian Arab Army is now advancing on the al-Barada area, attacking the Islamic State's defenses from two different axes

Southeast Asia
Philippines: Daesh leader linked to Malaysia wounded
[BenarNews] A military offensive has apparently wounded the leader of a Daesh affiliate in the Philippines who is linked to a newly uncovered terrorist cell in Malaysia, as well as killed four militants including a Malaysian.

Isnilon Hapilon, reportedly fled from a camp in Lanao del Sur province after being wounded in a military operation on Wednesday and Thursday that consisted of ground and air strikes, Philippine military chief of staff Gen. Eduardo Ano said.

Reports said Hapilon suffered an arm injury and had to be carried by others during his escape. The news reports did not identify the Malaysian who was killed.

Terror experts have described Hapilon, a former Abu Sayyaf leader, as the head of IS Philippines, and Malaysian and Indonesian supporters of the group last year referred to him as their regional "emir" in an IS propaganda video.

His reported injury is the second blow to IS Philippines this month. On January 5, another Daesh leader based in the southern Philippines, Mohammad Jaafar Maguid, also known as Tokboy, was gunned down by security forces on a Mindanao beach. He was the founder and leader of Ansarul Khilafa Philippines (AKP), one of the three groups that make up the Philippine branch of IS.

Malaysia's police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said that security forces in the eastern state of Sabah were ready to intercept militants trying to flee. He said, "We fully support Philippines forces’ assault on the terrorist groups in the south. We will give our fullest cooperation. Our front-line troops have been put on alert for any attempt by these terrorist members to flee the south and take refuge in Sabah."

Earlier this week, Khalid announced that police had arrested a Filipino and two Bangladeshis along with a Malaysian woman. He said the four were part of a new Daesu cell that planned to use Sabah as a transit point for sending militants to the Philippines. The cell had received orders from Hapilon and a former lecturer at Malaya University, Mahmud Ahmad.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea restarts plutonium-producing reactor
Fresh satellite imagery shows that North Korea has apparently restarted its plutonium-producing nuclear reactor, a U.S. website monitoring the communist nation said Friday.

"Imagery from January 22 shows a water plume (most probably warm) originating from the cooling water outlet of the reactor, an indication that the reactor is very likely operating," the website 38 North said in a report.

"Currently, most of the river is frozen over except where this water mixes with the river. Currents carry this mix downstream — visible as a plume of ice-free water. Without being able to measure the water temperature rise or water flow from the reactor, it is impossible to estimate at what power level the reactor is running, although it may be considerable," it said.

Imagery from January 18 showed signs that Pyongyang was preparing to restart the reactor after spent fuel rods had previously been unloaded for a reprocessing campaign that produced additional plutonium for its nuclear weapons stockpile, the report said.

The graphite-moderated 5-megawatt reactor has been the source of weapons-grade plutonium for the communist nation. The small reactor is capable of producing spent fuel rods that, if reprocessed, could give the regime enough plutonium to make one bomb a year.

The reactor has provided Pyongyang with weapons-grade plutonium that the regime used in its first three nuclear tests, in 2006, 2009 and 2013. The North conducted its fourth and fifth nuclear tests in January and September last year.

Full text of Trump's executive order on 7-nation ban, refugee suspension
Except that the ban doesn't mention the seven countries. Do a search of the full text at the CNN site linked in the title of this post. You won't find them.

Seth Frantzman, someone with decidedly different views than many of us on the Burg, nevertheless demonstrates clearly that the seven countries were selected by President Obama and the Omnibus Bill of 2015. As Mr. Frantzman says:
The public should be suspicious of Trump’s policies and the media should speak truth to power and demand answers from the administration. But the media should also be truthful with the public and instead of claiming Trump singled out seven countries, it should note that the US Congress and Obama’s Department of Homeland Security had singled out these countries. It should have told us about theTerrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 rather than pretend this list was invented in 2017. Trump’s executive order said “countries of concern,” it didn’t make a list. That list was already made, last year and years before.

Puts things in a different light, doesn't it?

Trump Sets 5-Year And Lifetime Lobbying Ban For Officials
President Donald Trump acted Saturday to fulfill a key portion of his pledge to "drain the swamp" in Washington, banning administration officials from ever lobbying the U.S. on behalf of a foreign government and imposing a separate five-year ban on other lobbying.

Administration officials described the bans as historic in scope. But it was not immediately clear how either one would be enforced.
Good point...
Trump has said individuals who want to aid him in his quest to "Make America Great Again" should focus on the jobs they will be doing to help the American people, and not thinking about the future income they could rake in by peddling their influence after serving in government.

"Most of the people standing behind me will not be able to go to work," Trump joked, referring to an array of White House officials lined up behind him as he sat at his desk in the Oval Office. The officials included Vice President Mike Pence, chief of staff Reince Priebus, senior strategist Steve Bannon and counselor Kellyanne Conway. "So you have one last chance to get out."

Trump said he talked about the ban a lot during the campaign and "we're now putting it into effect."
I suspect that the affected officials will wait until Trump leaves office in 2024 and then file a lawsuit...

Taliban supreme leader replaces 24 ‘shadow’ officials
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The supreme leader of the Taliban group Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada
...Deputy to Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour...
has replaced 24 shadow officials in a bid to consolidate his influence over the insurgency, it has been reported.

The replacements include 16 shadow governors and eight other provincial-level officials including one whose job will be to offer technical support for major attacks on urban areas, according to a list seen by Rooters.

The list has been confirmed by Taliban’s main front man with some senior figures in the group saying the new appointments will strengthen Akhundzada following a fracture in the group caused by Mullah Mohammad’s death.

A senior Taliban figure and ex-minister now based along the Pakistain-Afghanistan border
...also known as Pashtunistan, home of ignorance, poverty, and automatic weapons...
told Rooters "Mullah Haibatullah is trying to consolidate his position and power, but is apparently moving forward extremely carefully."

The officials further added that seven Taliban holy warriors were killed and at least six more were maimed during the festivities.

No further details were given regarding the possible casualties of the Afghan cops.

Syrian Army liberates 23 villages in east Aleppo as they advance to ISIL’s main stronghold
[ALMASDARNEWS] In early January, the Syrian Arab Army's "Tiger Forces" launched a large-scale offensive to liberate the al-Bab Plateau from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS) Lions of Islam in east Aleppo.

The Tiger Forces would liberate several villages and hilltops from the Islamic State, while pushing north to the terrorist group's main stronghold in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.

According to an al-Masdar field correspondent, the Syrian Arab Army has liberated at least 23 villages from the Islamic State forces, killing and wounding over 150 Lions of Islam in the process.

This Syrian Arab Army offensive in east Aleppo has been backed by heavy Russian and Syrian Arclight airstrikes on the al-Bab Plateau; this has paved the way for the government's advance in east Aleppo.

Meanwhile in the north, the Turkish Armed Forces have repeatedly attempted to enter the city of al-Bab; however, they have repeatedly failed, despite assistance from the Russian Air Force.

The Turkish Armed Forces have lost several soldiers and a large amount of military equipment during their al-Bab campaign, making this operation a major for them this year.

GOP Philly Meetings Bugged -- Mole Sends Recordings to Liberal News Outlets
[THEGATEWAYPUNDIT] Republican politicians are meeting this week in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Loews Hotel near City Hall.
Strangely enough, there is no media outrage at this sort of dirty trick...
Protesters have been targeting the hotel since the Republican politicians came to town.

But it gets worse.

Their room is bugged. Someone was taping the GOP politicians’ discussions and sent copies to the liberal media.

Recordings of closed sessions at the Republican policy retreat in Philadelphia this week were sent late Thursday to The Washington Post and several other news outlets from an anonymous email address. The remarks of all politicians quoted in this story were confirmed by their offices or by the politicians themselves.

California Could Cut Off Feds In Response To Trump Threats
[SANFRANCISCO.CBSLOCAL] The state of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, is studying ways to suspend financial transfers to Washington after the Trump administration threatened to withhold federal money from sanctuary cities, KPIX 5 has learned.

Officials are looking for money that flows through Sacramento to the federal government that could be used to offset the potential loss of billions of dollars’ worth of federal funds if President Trump makes good on his threat to punish cities and states that don’t cooperate with federal agents’ requests to turn over undocumented immigrants colonists, a senior government source in Sacramento said.

The federal funds pay for a variety of state and local programs from law enforcement to homeless shelters.

"California could very well become an organized non-payer," said Willie Brown, Jr, a former speaker of the state Assembly in an interview recorded Friday for KPIX 5’s Sunday morning news. "They could recommend non-compliance with the federal tax code."

California is among a handful of so-called "donor states," which pay more in taxes to the federal Treasury than they receive in government funding.

#17  The only way th idea of a donor state works is if you count the Federal Income taxes paid by residents of California. The only way California could possibly control that would be to force companies that withhold on behalf of residents to not give the money over to the feds and open themselves up to all sorts of federal reprisals and confiscations (no company in their right mind would open that door).

So this is nonsense as far as I can figure.

Female Marines To Sleep Next To Male Marines In Field
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] Female infantry Marines will be sleeping in makeshift shelters next to their male counterparts when out in the field and no special accommodation will be offered to them, a Marine Corps official said Thursday.
When I was in the army thirty years ago we had several snappy looking female officers in our battalion (enlisted, too, for that matter). We shared accommodations in the field pretty routinely. We were always too tired by the time we got to get in any sleep for any hanky panky.
Marines in the field stay in everything from a large, single room shelter filled with dozens of cots to sleeping under tarps or nothing at all, said Maj. Charles Anklam III, executive officer for 1st Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina - the first gender-integrated Marine infantry battalion.

Female Marines have private rooms and bathrooms in their living quarters, and female bathrooms have been added to buildings where Marines work. But female Marines will be expected to share any living spaces with male squad members in the field to keep unit cohesion and replicate battlefield conditions, he said.

"We're not changing our tactical posture or changing how we operate to accommodate the inclusion of female Marines," Anklam said.

The battalion accepted its first three females in early January, marking the first time the Marine Corps has put three enlisted women in a ground combat unit once open only to men. They will serve as a rifleman, machine gunner and mortar Marine.

Melania Trump's lawsuit against blogger can go forward, judge rules
[CBSNEWS] First lady Melania Trump can move ahead with a libel lawsuit she filed against a blogger who reported rumors that she worked as a high-end escort, a judge ruled Friday.

The blogger, Webster Tarpley of Gaithersburg, sought to have the lawsuit dismissed. His lawyer argued Friday in Montgomery County Circuit Court that Tarpley accurately reported in an August blog post the fact that there were rumors about whether Trump’s modeling career included work as an escort.

"There is no dispute that there were, in fact, rumors," said his lawyer, Danielle Giroux. "He did not say that Melania Trump was a high-class escort. What he said was there are rumors about that."

Trump’s lawyer said the rumor is false and that news hounds can’t make defamatory statements under the guise of reporting rumors.

"The job of a news hound is to vet it before you publish it," the lawyer, Charles Harder said.

He also disputed the notion that Tarpley’s article merely reported the fact that rumors were out there. He cited a passage in the article stating, "It is also widely known that Melania was not a working model but rather a high end escort."

Judge Sharon Burrell agreed with Harder: "There can be no more defamatory statement than to call a woman a hooker," she said in denying the motion to dismiss.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Saudi Journalist to Palestinians: Armed Resistance to Israel is Futile, Arab World Has Lost Interest in Your Cause
[ALGEMEINER] The Paleostinian cause is "no longer a top priority" for the Arab world, a Saudi journalist declared earlier this month.

In an article published by the Saudi daily Al Jazirah newspaper -- and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) -- Muhammad Aal al-Sheikh wrote that the reliance of radical Paleostinian groups on armed resistance "constitutes a kind of political suicide that only political ignoramuses [can] condone."

According to al-Sheikh, a two-state solution to the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict is the sole option "that can be demanded and which enjoys the support of most of the international community."

What the Paleostinians, al-Sheikh went on to say, "need to understand is that the Arabs of today are not the Arabs of yesterday, and that the Paleostinian cause has lost ground among Arabs. This cause is no longer a top priority for them, because civil wars are literally pulverizing four Arab countries, and because fighting the ’Islamic’ terrorism is the foremost concern that causes all Arabs, without exception, to lose sleep. It is folly to ask someone to sacrifice [tending to] his own problems and national interests in order to help [you solve] your own problems."

"All I can say to my Paleostinian brethren is that stubbornness, contrariness, and betting on the [support of] the Arab masses are a hopeless effort, and that ultimately you are the only ones who will pay the price of this stubbornness and contrariness," he concluded.

Kenya police officers killed in blast near Somali border
Two Kenyan police officers were killed and four others seriously wounded on Friday when their vehicle was hit by explosive device along the border with Somalia.

A security officer said the deceased from Administration Police were responding to an attack by Al-Shabaab terrorists on a Kenya Defence Forces base in Kulbiyow when they were attacked.

“We lost two officers while the other four have been admitted at the hospital here in Nairobi.

“They were responding to the attack on KDF base in Somalia,” said an official aware of the incident.

The security officer said their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as it crossed the border to Somalia to rescue KDF personnel who were under siege. The injured were flown to Nairobi for specialized treatment and those who saw them said they had serious multiple injuries.

“Reinforcements deployed by the KDF in Kenya encountered massive IEDs along the MSR (military service requirements) and had to abandon mission,” said the official. A reinforcement that arrived hours later managed to take control of the base.

Somali militants staged a dawn attack on KDF camp in Kolbiyow and killed an unknown number of Kenyan soldiers who are part of the AMISOM troops. The militants used twin suicide vehicle bound improvised explosive devices (SVBIED).

KDF said it sent reinforcement which was able to destroy two vehicles loaded with improvised explosive devices within the vicinity of their Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kulbiyow, an area near Kenya’s border with Somalia.

[COLORADOINDEPENDENT] Denver-based journalist and author David Sirota is leaving the International Business Times to take the reins of a new media site called True Blue, part of the ShareBlue franchise, where he will “oversee True Blue Media’s entire operations, including its editorial direction and day-to-day newsgathering.”

ShareBlue is the brainchild of David Brock, the former conservative journalist turned liberal political warrior who is building a liberal fundraising and politics machine explicitly modeled on the network established by the conservative Koch brothers. India-Pakistan
We need to reshape ideologies to uproot terrorism, says Khawaja Asif
[DAWN] Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said "terrorism will continue to grow till [sic] religion is being sold as a commodity and hatemongers continue to spread sectarian hatred".

He was addressing a workers convention of Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Sialkot on Saturday.

Asif maintained that Moslem Ummah will not be united and religious differences will continue to strengthen if businesses continue to run under the disguise of religious practices.

"War against terrorism is the prime focus of all politicians but terrorism cannot be uprooted if ideologies are not changed," he said.

The minister added that terrorism is an ideology and a mental condition, whereas media can play a significant role in curbing terrorism and eliminating religious extremism.

During his speech, Asif strictly criticised media over allegedly blowing the sectarian conflicts out of proportion. Branding media as "businessmen," he said they are marketeers and only sell running products.

The defence minister claimed that those people are given air-time on media who exploit religious differences. "Such people are given airtime only because they bring in ratings and push forward the business agenda."

Asif was of the view that around 70 to 80 per cent terrorism had been wiped out as a result of operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...

Home Front: Politix
Epic – Is Team Trump Baiting Liberal Media and Refugee Protesters By Using Obama's Own Policy?…
"Why would the text of President Trump’s Executive Order suspending travel visas be readily available on CNN (HERE), New York Times (HERE), Wall Street Journal (HERE), but not on White House page (HERE)?

I don’t think it’s accidental. The limiting Visa program was President Obama’s action, not President Trump.

If you review the actual text of the executive order (copied below in full) what you will immediately notice is the order doesn’t specify ANY countries to be included in the Visa suspension (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen).

President Trump is not suspending visas from countries his team selected, they are simply suspending visa approval from countries President Obama selected. Additionally, Trump is suspending ALL visa applications from those countries ‐ nothing to do with Muslim applications.

• In 2013 President Obama suspended refugees from Iraq for six months. • In 2015 Congress passed, and Obama signed, a law restricting visas from states of concern; • and in 2016 Obama’s DHS, Jeh Johnson, expanded those restrictions. .... all President Trump is doing is taking the same action as Obama 2013, and applying Visa restrictions to the nation states Obama selected in 2015 and 2016.

From the Executive order:

[...] to ensure the proper review and maximum utilization of available resources for the screening of foreign nationals, and to ensure that adequate standards are established to prevent infiltration by foreign terrorists or criminals, pursuant to section 212(f) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1182(f), I hereby proclaim that the immigrant and nonimmigrant entry into the United States of aliens from countries referred to in section 217(a)(12) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1187(a)(12), would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, and I hereby suspend entry into the United States, as immigrants and nonimmigrants, of such persons for 90 days from the date of this order (excluding those foreign nationals traveling on diplomatic visas, North Atlantic Treaty Organization visas, C-2 visas for travel to the United Nations, and G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4 visas). (link)

U.S.C.1187 Law Link Here

The President Obama Department of Homeland Security already targeted those seven listed countries for the past several years as nations of concern.

In February of 2016 the Department of Homeland Security announced that was continuing its implementation of the Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015 with the addition of Libya, Somalia, and Yemen as three countries of additional concern.

DHS: "limiting Visa Waiver Program travel for certain individuals who have traveled to these countries." DHS noted "the three additional countries designated today join Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Syria as countries subject to restrictions for Visa Waiver Program travel for certain individuals."

President Trump is carrying out an executive action in support of the US Customs and Border Protection Act of 2015, which relates to "the Visa Waiver Program and Terrorist Travel Protection Act of 2015". President Trump did not select seven countries ‐ the US Congress and Obama’s Department of Homeland Security had singled out these countries.

Nowhere in President Trump’s executive order does he single out any country for VISA suspension. Instead what his XO does is say he’s suspending visa approvals from countries already outlined by the Obama administration as representing a specific threat such that they were categorized for extreme visa vetting by: 8 U.S.C. 1187(a)(12)

Iran to ban U.S. visitors in retaliation to Trump move
Iran said on Saturday it would stop U.S. citizens entering the country in retaliation to Washington's visa ban against Tehran and six other majority-Muslim countries announced by new U.S. President Donald Trump.
Please don't throw us into the briar patch...
"While respecting the American people and distinguishing between them and the hostile policies of the U.S. government, Iran will implement the principle of reciprocity until the offensive U.S. limitations against Iranian nationals are lifted," a Foreign Ministry statement said.

"The restrictions against travel by Muslims to America... are an open affront against the Muslim world and the Iranian nation in particular and will be known as a great gift to extremists," said the statement, carried by state media.

The U.S. ban will make it virtually impossible for relatives and friends of an estimated one million Iranian-Americans to visit the United States.
Maybe you can meet halfway in Istanbul...

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF’s West Bank crackdown triples prices of makeshift guns
[IsraelTimes] In a bid to keep firearms out of terrorists’ hands, shuttering the workshops that make them became a high priority in 2016.

The price of makeshift guns in the West Bank skyrocketed in 2016, tripling from May to October, as a result of the Israel Defense Forces’ crackdown on their manufacture and sale, an intelligence officer said Thursday.

Throughout last year, the IDF shuttered 44 alleged gunsmithing workshops and seized more than 450 weapons in the West Bank, a dramatic increase over the previous year, the officer from the Central Command told news hounds, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
"It’s easy to remember the number for 2015: zero," he said.

According to the officer, it was the result of the army’s overall effort to mitigate the threat of terror in the West Bank and protect the Israeli settlers who live there.

"One way to stop civilians from being injured is to make sure [the terrorist] meets a soldier or a police officer instead. Another way is to keep him from getting a gun," he said.

Technically, the number of Paleostinian shooting attacks in the West Bank and Israel in 2016 decreased only slightly from 2015 -- from 48 to 45 -- but the figures are skewed by a large number of attacks in the beginning of the year, before the army’s crackdown got into full swing.

According to the intelligence officer, the IDF’s efforts on the illegal gun front have only just begun.

"This isn’t the end of the book; it’s not even the first chapter," he said.

He estimated that "hundreds of thousands" of homemade weapons are still circulating in the West Bank, but noted that the vast majority are not intended for terror attacks, but for crime, personal protection and celebratory gunfire at weddings.

The gun of choice in the West Bank is often referred to as a "Carlo," as the original design came from the Swedish Carl Gustav submachine gun.

One such Carlo was used on Wednesday night by a Paleostinian man who shot up an IDF post outside the West Bank village of Aboud, outside Ramallah.

The Carlo is often cobbled together out of water pipes and components of other guns. It is notoriously inaccurate and prone to jams, but when the goal is indiscriminate calamity, those issues take a backseat to its low price and availability.

According the officer, the main centers of Carlo production are Hebron, in the southern West Bank; and Nablus, in the north.

The Hebron Carlos are considered to be of a higher quality and demand a commensurate price. ("But don’t tell the guys from Nablus, or they might use one against you," the officer joked.)

The crackdown has already had an impact on the street, driving the price of better Carlo submachine guns from approximately NIS 2,000 ($527) in January-May to its current cost of over NIS 6,500 ($1,700), the officer said.

The price of cheaper versions of the makeshift gun increased by 300 percent, from NIS 1,500 in January-May to NIS 4,500 today, he added.

The officer noted that before an attack in June, in which two Paleostinian men from outside Hebron opened fire with Carlos in a Tel Aviv restaurant, killing four people, the Lions of Islam paid more for their suits -- NIS 5,000 ($1,300) -- than they did for their weapons -- NIS 4,000 ($1,050).

According to the officer, that would no longer be the case.

The army’s efforts also "significantly" drove up the price of "real" guns, like M16 and AK-47 assault rifles, the officer said, though he did not provide exact figures.

In addition to its illegal weapons crackdown, the army has also tried to go after ancillary aspects of terror attacks: people who help Paleostinians sneak into Israel; friends and family who know of attack plans but don’t stop them; and the sellers of stolen and unregistered cars, known as "mashtoubat" in Arabic slang.

By focusing on those things, the army hopes it can prevent mass-casualty events.

"If it’s not a shooting, if it’s not someone getting there by car, if it’s a person with a knife getting there on foot -- I know my chances are better," the officer said.

Front) announced the formation of a new rebel force that will merge their organization with other rebel factions in Syria.

Five rebel factions, including Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, agreed to disband and form a new group that will be called "Hey'sah Tahrir al-Sham" (Levant Liberation Body).

The disbanded rebel factions include Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen al-Zinki, Liwaa al-Haq, Liwaa Ansar al-Deen, and Jaish al-Sunnah; these groups originally participated in several battles in northern Syria before disbanding this weekend.

The leader of this new jihadist organization will be "Abu Jaber Hashem al-Sheikh," the statement added.

It's important to note that Harakat Nouriddeen al-Zinki was once supplied with U.S. manufactured anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) before being declared "non-moderates" by the U.S. regime.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
50 House GOPers tell Trump to fire IRS chief
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A faction of conservatives is circumventing leadership brass and calling directly on President Trump to tell IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
Chief John Koskinen, "You're fired."
Fired? He should be behind bars.
Rep. Mark Walker, R-N.C., will make the ask. The chairman of the Republican Study Committee has quietly but urgently been circulating a letter inside the GOP conference to build support. He's now got 50 congressmen signed onto the letter.

While Trump has fleshed out his cabinet, so far, he's stayed hush about the fate of the IRS chief. And conservatives really want Koskinen's head. "You have the authority to remove Commissioner Koskinen," Walker writes to Trump, adding that "we encourage you to dismiss him in the most expedient manner practicable."

House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, first drew up impeachment articles against the taxman in October 2015. Since then, conservatives have accused Koskinen of interfering with a congressional investigation and abetting the of the continued targeting of conservative non-profits.

Walker's letter reintroduces that issue in the new 115th Congress, slamming the IRS for "improperly targeting conservative groups" and failing to "demonstrate that officials have definitively ceased targeting conservative groups." And he's building on last year's failed impeachment effort launched by the House Freedom Caucus.

"The consideration of the impeachment of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen in the House in late 2016 was a clear indication that Congress and the American people have no confidence in Commissioner Koskinen or his ability to discharge his duties," Walker writes.

But that episode is a distant memory now. Back then while the nation focused on the presidential election, the Freedom Caucus tried to force Ryan's hand. Struggling to keep his majority together, the speaker passed on the impeachment effort and pleaded with conservatives to wait on personnel changes at the tax bureau until after the election.

Two detained Iraqis in NY file suit against new travel ban
Lawyers for two Iraqis with ties to the US military who had been granted visas to enter the United States have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump and the US government after they were detained when they arrived in New York Friday.

The lawsuit could represent the first legal challenge to Trump's controversial executive order, which indefinitely suspends admissions for Syrian refugees and limits the flow of other refugees into the United States by instituting what the President has called "extreme vetting" of immigrants.

Trump's order also bars Iraqi citizens, as well as people from six other Muslim-majority nations, from entering the US for 90 days, and suspends the US Refugee Admissions Program for 120 days until it is reinstated "only for nationals of countries for whom" members of Trump's Cabinet deem can be properly vetted.

According to court papers, both men legally were allowed to come into the US but were detained in accordance with Trump's move to ban travel from several Muslim-majority nations. One of the men, Hameed Khalid Darweesh, who worked as an interpreter for the US during the Iraq War, was released from detention early Saturday afternoon.

"America is the land of freedom," Darweesh told reporters at the airport shortly after his release. "America is the greatest nation."

Asked about Trump, Darweesh said, "I like him, but I don't know." He added that he was separated from his family Friday at the airport.

A source with knowledge of the case confirmed Darweesh will be allowed into the US due to provisions in Trump's order that allow the State and Homeland Security departments to admit individuals into the US on a case-by-case base for certain reasons, including when the person is already in transit and it would cause undue hardship and would not pose a threat to the security of the US.
Oh, so it's not a complete ban, and after review he was allowed to enter the country. What's his standing in a lawsuit again?
The other Iraqi man named as a plaintiff in the suit is Haider Sameer Abdulkaleq Alshawi, who was still being held at JFK as of early Saturday afternoon.

The lawsuit said the US granted Alshawi a visa earlier this month to meet with his wife and son, whom the US already granted refugee status for her association with the US military. The lawyers for the two men called for a hearing because they maintain the detention of people with valid visas is illegal.

"Because the executive order is unlawful as applied to petitioners, their continued detention based solely on the executive order violates their Fifth Amendment procedural and substantive due process rights," the lawyers argue in court papers.
Um no, read the fine print on a visa. The government always has the right to modify or cancel a visa. It's been that way forever.

More outrage and progressive tears at the link...

‘Front man’ for ex-religious affairs minister convicted
[DAWN] A special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday convicted a ’front man’ for a former religious affairs minister, sentenced him to 30 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs4.05 million in the Rs8.8 million Haj corruption case.

Special Judge Central Malik Nazir announced the verdict according to which the convict, Ahmed Faiz, could face another 10 years’ imprisonment if he does not pay the fine.

An alleged front man for former Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Ahmed Faiz was accused of receiving kickbacks during the process of renting "substandard" buildings for pilgrims. After being declared a proclaimed offender, Faiz was incarcerated

in July 2014 and brought back to Pakistain.

The special court had on June 3 last year convicted Hamid Saeed Kazmi, former Joint Secretary Religious Affairs Ministry Raja Aftabul Islam and former Director General Haj, Rao Shakeel in the same case.

During the course of the hearing on Friday, FIA’s deputy director legal Waseem Ranjha said that Ahmed Faiz was not an employee of the religious affairs ministry, but was getting the protocol of a BPS 20 officer.

He said that the Pak haj mission in Saudi Arabia accommodated Faiz as real estate advisor on Kazmi’s directions. Ahmed Faiz was negotiating deals for the renting of buildings for hiring pilgrims during which he received kickbacks, Mr Ranjha alleged.

According to Mr Ranjha, the accused rented substandard buildings on exorbitant rates and made huge commissions.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Former militant opponents of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (JFS) now join JFS-led Hai’at Tahrir al-Sham
[ALMASDARNEWS] As the so-called "Rebel Civil War" rages in Idlib province, certain factions within the Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
coalition, which only yesterday was opposed to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...
(JFS) as a whole, are now joining the JFS-led Hai'at Tahrir al-Sham (Levant Liberation Body) operations room.

In the last few hours reports have been leaking in that sub-factions within Ahrar al-Sham are now joining the Hai'at Tahrir al-Sham alliance. The groups (so far) have been identified as the al-Aqsa (not to be mistaken for Jund al-Aqsa) and Suqour Asham battalions.

The split could almost be anticipated, first due to Ahrar al-Sham's historical tendency for political fracture (the group has formally split within its own ranks at least two times prior to this most recent one) and, secondly, due to the unrelenting offensive unleashed by JFS against non-obliging "rebel" groups which was bound to drive the hardline Salafist elements of Ahrar al-Sham away from the supposedly less radical bully boy Islamists of the group.

The Hai'at Tahrir al-Sham operations room is a JFS initiative and represents, in every respect, the consolidation of JFS political and military power and economic interests within Idlib province. This being said, it is interesting to note that the "general commander" of the alliance is Abu Jaber al-Shaykh (not to be mistaken with the "military leader" Abu Mohammad al-Julani), a former Ahrar al-Sham commander who defected in September 2015.

Abu Jaber al-Shaykh's presence as a high-ranking commander within Hai'at Tahrir al-Sham may also have played a part in tipping the loyalty of certain factions within Ahrar al-Sham towards a formal conglomeration JFS.

Their problem is that their few frigates, missle carriers and other similar sized ships have no experience doing this and the ships would be in big trouble if some systems mulfunctioned. Iran has some subs which could probably make it to the atlantic and back again but these ships are needed in the Persian Gulf.

Women’s March Featured Speaker Who Kidnapped And Tortured A Man
[DAILYCALLER] The Women’s March on Washington last week featured as a speaker convicted felon Donna Hylton who, along with several others, kidnapped a man and then tortured him to death.
Nice picture of the little darling raising her right arm in a fascist salute.
Hylton’s name is listed on the Women’s March website alongside prominent liberals like Planned Parenthood
...has received federal funding since 1970, when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family Planning Services and Population Research Act. It is sometimes described as the gynecololgical wing of the Democratic party.
president Cecile Richards, actress Gloria Steinem, filmmaker Michael Moore and CNN commentator Van Jones.

Hylton, along with three men and three other women, kidnapped 62-year-old real-estate broker Thomas Vigliarolo and held him for ransom, before eventually killing him. As noted in a 1995 Psychology Today article, when asked about forcibly sodomizing the victim with a three foot steel pole, one of Hylton’s accomplices replied: "He was a homo anyway."

Speaking about Hylton, New York City Detective William Spurling told Psychology Today: "I couldn’t believe this girl who was so intelligent and nice-looking could be so unemotional about what she was telling me she and her friends had done. They’d squeezed the victim’s testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him."

#1  An older and wiser black man...

There is a big divide between the older African Americans and the younger African Americans and these fine men and women need our support.

I was in a restaurant where a young African American manager was publicly chastising an Older Female African American employee while she kept saying, "If you have a problem with me, deal with it in private, not in public." But he kept on until I, a white customer told him, "I agree with her, now, do you want me to leave or stay?" He shut up.

A young African American man was publicly chewing out his woman until an older African American man came up to him and said, "Stop disrespecting this woman and pull up your pants!"

The young man turned around an walked off.

Britain
Theresa May says: You Shouldn't Need to Go to College to Get a Good Job
Prime Minister Theresa May has unveiled a big investment program aimed at increasing the accessibility of technical training in the UK. Inside Higher Education reports:

The British government has announced a 170 million pound ($213 million) series of prestigious Institutes of Technology are to be developed to offer a "credible alternative" to the academic route of university for young people.

As part of Prime Minister Theresa May’s industrial strategy unveiled this week, technical education will get a radical shake-up to "level the playing field" for those who do not go to university. [...]

A senior government source reportedly said that May thought it was "unwise to force less academic pupils into the straitjacket of university, leaving them drowning in debt for the sake of a poor degree -- particularly when we have a chronic shortage of British plumbers and engineers."

The British higher education system is very different from America’s: cheaper, more heavily subsidized, and aimed at imparting more detailed knowledge in a specific area. But many of the challenges May’s governments is concerned about exist in the U.S. as well: High and rising debt levels, poor quality degrees, an unfair labor market advantage for students who had the opportunity to earn a BA, and a shortage of people competent perform high-paying technical jobs that don’t require a regular college degree.

Populist and reform-minded American politicians should take note of May’s effort. Many U.S. policymakers, especially on the Democratic side, are tempted to "increase access" to higher education by increasing subsidies for our existing system. But in many cases, that money would be better spent imparting highly valuable skills to young people who are not ready or simply not interested in grinding away for four years in the Ivory Tower after graduating from high school.

The programs were on punch cards though there were terminals for taking the CAI sessions and tests.

These are 30 + year old memories and my storage system is getting flaky. RBG, Fortran, BAL, Cobol and out to work. The irony is that 55% of my work was with various flavors of Basic since I worked for DEC. The rest was with ABAP (a bastardized Basic/COBOL mix) working for SAP.

Saw a whole lot of changes from my introduction to computers in '69 till now.

India-Pakistan
More documents linking Maryam to London flats released
[DAWN] Despite protestations of innocence from the Sharif family lawyers pleading the Panamagate case before the Supreme Court, the German publication Suddeutsche Zeitung has released more documents supposedly linking Maryam Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
to the company that owns the Park Lane flats in London.

After the first round of documents released on Monday was dismissed as "forged" by Shahid Hamid, the counsel for Maryam Nawaz, SZ Investigativ, the investigative arm of the German publication, tweeted more documents on Tuesday, and again on Thursday.

Tuesday’s release consisted of a letter from J. Nizbeth Maduro, money laundering reporting officer for Mossack Fonseca -- the Panamanian law firm whose internal documents comprise the Panama Papers -- to Errol George, Director of the Financial Investigation Agency (FIA) of the British Virgin Islands.

This document, which names Mariam Safdar -- the married name of Maryam Nawaz -- as the beneficial owner of Neilsen Enterprises Limited, is not new and was included in the documents submitted to the SC by the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) alongside the Panamagate petition.

The document states, among other things, that Neilsen "has a loan account with Deutsche Bank Geneva".

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
in a statement, Maryam Nawaz has already denied being the recipient or a participant in the correspondence between Mossack Fonseca and the British Virgin Islands’ FIA. "Mossack Fonseca is a law firm and not a court of law and no letter of the firm could confer the title of properties on her," her statement submitted to the court said.

Then, on Thursday, SZ Investigativ sent out another couple of tweets containing yet more documents related to the case. The first tweet, which was accompanied by two documents, read: "For public interest the loans from Deutsche Bank AG to two offshore companies owned by [the] daughter of PM of Pakistain according to Panama Papers."

The attached documents bear the heading ’Register of Charges’; one relates to Neilsen and the other to Nescoll and appear to refer to mortgage agreements for apartments 16 and 16A, Avenfield House between Deutsche Bank and the ’holder of the charge’. Interestingly, the addresses provided for the ’Chargee for the Security’ and ’Holder of the Charge’ are the same: the London branch of Deutsche Bank AG.

Kenya claims killing 70 militants in Kulbiyow attack
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers in Kulbiyow camp, Somalia, successfully repulsed Al Shabaab operatives supported by two Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) Friday.

According to a statement from the KDF signed by Lt-Col Paul Njuguna , “Over 70 terrorists were killed and scores wounded in the attack,” which comes hot on the heels of the anniversary of the El-Adde military base attack on January 15 last year, where KDF lost a sizeable number of soldiers manning the camp at the time.

“During this engagement, KDF lost two of its soldiers and seven servicemen,” read the statement dated January 27.

The statement by KDF discredits casualty numbers reported by the Somali-based terror network’s spokesperson Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, who told Reuters that “dozens of soldiers” had been killed while others “ran away into the woods.”

Following the attack, KDF reported that it’s Quick Reaction Force with the support of land and air troops had began an operation in the Lower Juba part of Somalia to capture terrorists who escaped.

Njuguna further dismissed claims by the militants that the Kulbiyow military camp had been completely overran saying the camp remained secure after the early morning attack.

“It is important to note that contrary to information peddled by the terrorists, our camp has not been overran,” Lt-Col Njuguna.

Kenya entered the territories of the war-torn country on October 16, 2011, in efforts to help stabilize Somalia and secure Kenya’s boarders from Al Shabaab elements after several cases of abductions in the coastal cities of Mombasa and Malindi.

KDF is currently in-charge of Sector 2 under the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) which covers the Gedo, Middle Juba and Lower Juba regions of Somalia.

Remove adviser or face contempt proceedings, SHC tells govt
[DAWN] KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday warned the provincial authorities of initiating contempt of court proceedings against the provincial government if it did not remove the Sindh chief minister’s adviser on law barrister Murtaza Wahab.

Headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, a two-judge bench took serious notice when it was informed that the notification regarding Mr Wahab’s removal was not issued yet and he had been drawing perks and salaries for the past two months.

Advocate Fareed Ahmed Dayo, a senior practising lawyer, had filed an application seeking contempt of court proceedings against the provincial authorities for not removing the CM’s adviser on law in violation of the court’s judgement.

He pointed out that Murtaza Wahab was drawing salaries and perks for the last two months even after his appointment had been declared illegal.

In his application, Dayo submitted that the law adviser was still continuing his service and attending cabinet meetings.

He requested the judges to initiate contempt proceedings against the authorities concerned.

Syrian Army takes control of main water supply to Damascus after more than 4 weeks of fighting
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army has officially taken control of the al-Fijeh Springs of Wadi Barada after more than 4 weeks of fighting with the jihadist rebels in this rural Damascus valley.

Syrian TV reported directly from the al-Fijeh Springs today, showing images of the Syrian Arab Army raising the flag over this strategic site that is responsible for supply water to an estimated 5 million people in Damascus.

With the Syrian Army in control of Wadi Barada, the remaining jihadist rebels will be transferred to the Idlib Governorate, where they will be reacquainted with their comrades.

The water supply to Damascus was cutoff 44 days ago when the jihadist rebels poisoned the water supplied to government areas in the capital.

As a result of this act committed by the jihadist rebels, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault to recapture the Wadi Barada area after a 4 year absence.
