Islamists Celebrate Presidential Primary Victory in France
[Homeland Security Net] Benoît Hamon, the ’candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood,’ won the January 29 second round of the French Socialist Party primaries by a landslide 58.71 percent against former prime minister Manuel Valls, who gained 41.29%.

Hamon’s victory was met with an explosion of jubilation by French Islamists on their social media accounts.

The Data That Turned the World Upside Down
Article describes the Big Data tools used by the Trump campaign.
[Vice] The approach that Kosinski and his colleagues developed over the next few years was actually quite simple. First, they provided test subjects with a questionnaire in the form of an online quiz. From their responses, the psychologists calculated the personal Big Five values of respondents. Kosinski's team then compared the results with all sorts of other online data from the subjects: what they "liked," shared or posted on Facebook, or what gender, age, place of residence they specified, for example. This enabled the researchers to connect the dots and make correlations.

Remarkably reliable deductions could be drawn from simple online actions. For example, men who "liked" the cosmetics brand MAC were slightly more likely to be gay; one of the best indicators for heterosexuality was "liking" Wu-Tang Clan. Followers of Lady Gaga were most probably extroverts, while those who "liked" philosophy tended to be introverts. While each piece of such information is too weak to produce a reliable prediction, when tens, hundreds, or thousands of individual data points are combined, the resulting predictions become really accurate.

Kosinski and his team tirelessly refined their models. In 2012, Kosinski proved that on the basis of an average of 68 Facebook "likes" by a user, it was possible to predict their skin color (with 95 percent accuracy), their sexual orientation (88 percent accuracy), and their affiliation to the Democratic or Republican party (85 percent). But it didn't stop there. Intelligence, religious affiliation, as well as alcohol, cigarette and drug use, could all be determined. From the data it was even possible to deduce whether someone's parents were divorced.

MILO at Cal Poly State University: ‘No More Dead Babies'
BLUF: [Breitbart] Whether you believe in an immortal soul or not, babies are precious.

You may not like some of the grim imagery associated with the anti-abortion movement, and you may find the pictures of dead babies carried by protesters to be tremendously distasteful, BUT THAT IS THE POINT.

Abortion SHOULD be considered terrible. The left knows it, and that is why they do their best to make people think babies are just lumps of cells that magically become humans upon birth.

They prey on vulnerable women who are pregnant, while at the same time brainwashing the youth to praise abortion.

I’d like to remind you that many of the great people in history were born as orphans or adopted. People like Julius Caesar, Bach, Steve Jobs, Aristotle, Louis Armstrong, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon and Bill Clinton.

What if some of these people hadn’t existed? Don’t say anything about Bill Clinton... without him we wouldn’t have had Sick Hillary’s hilarious campaign!

I call on everyone in this room and the many thousands of people watching at home to reject the cultural conditioning favoring abortion that we are all exposed to. You have already rejected so much, like the lie of campus rate epidemics and the gender pay gap.

I’m asking you to go a little farther... because Western Civilization needs more babies, not fewer.

How to Defeat Weaponized Empathy
h/t Instapundit
I’ve spoken at great length on the matter of Weaponized Empathy. It is the primary weapon of the modern Left. Indeed, it so completely dominates their tactical thinking that everything else in their arsenal pales in comparison. Defeating this weapon ought to be the foremost on the mind of any opponent of the Progressive Left.

...What is Weaponized Empathy? It is the deliberate hijacking of your own moral standards, your ability to empathize with your fellow man, in order to force you to serve someone else’s narrative. It is, in essence, a highly sophisticated form of guilt-tripping designed to turn you into a slave.

Economy
Messy travel ban rollout dings stock market surge
[The Hill] The messy and contentious rollout of the executive order blocking entrance for refugees and travelers from seven majority-Muslim nations has dented the stock market surge enjoyed by President Trump since his election.
Nothing at all to do with the Dems blocking Trump nominations and perpetuating gov't gridlock. Nothing at all.
Ever since winning the White House in early November, Trump has ridden a wave of stock market success as investors prepared for the business-friendly policies that could come from a Washington controlled entirely by the Republican Party.

But the messy rollout of the order, which barring people from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya from traveling to the U.S. for at least 90 days and suspending refugee admissions from all countries for four months and from Syria indefinitely is taking its toll. The Dow Jones industrial average has fallen roughly 225 points, or 1.1 percent, in the two days of trading since Trump announced the travel ban on Friday evening. And corporations, long wary of attracting Trump’s ire, began to speak out against the policy as protests popped up at airports across the country.

The selloff is a modest chip in the roughly 1,500-point rally the Dow has enjoyed since Trump won the election. But it shows that while the private sector eagerly awaits tax cuts and trimmed regulations, there could be agenda items from this White House that are seen as a setback.
I'll take the 'ding' as well as the long view, and buy a little more ARLP (resurgent coal industry).
"When you have these mishaps, if that’s what you want to call it, at the White House, that gets people a little worried," said IHS Global Insight Economist Chris Christopher. "But for the most part things are holding up relatively well."

Government
Feds Lease Space for Classified Operations From Foreign Owners
[Free Beacon] The federal government leases space from foreign owners that is used by various agencies to store sensitive information and conduct classified operations, raising concerns about potential security implications.

Office space used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, Secret Service, and other agencies is leased by the government from companies based in foreign nations, according to a new audit from the Government Accountability Office assessing foreign ownership of "high-security space."

As of March 2016, the General Services Administration leased high-security space in at least 20 different buildings owned by companies based in China, Israel, Japan, South Korea, and other foreign nations.

"The 26 tenant agencies occupy about 3.3 million square feet at an annual cost of about $97 million and use the space, in some cases, for classified operations and to store law enforcement evidence and sensitive data," the report, a sensitive version of which was sent to Congress in November, states.

"Federal officials who assess foreign investments in the United States and some tenant agencies occupying high-security leased space told GAO that leasing space in foreign-owned buildings could present security risks such as espionage and unauthorized cyber and physical access."

The leased spaces included six different FBI field offices; three DEA field offices; and other offices used by the State Department, the Department of Defense's Army Corps of Engineers, the Social Security Administration, and various departments within the U.S. Treasury.

"Because the tenants include intelligence and law enforcement agencies, this high-security space is used, among other things, for classified operations and storage of weapons, law enforcement evidence, and sensitive data," GAO auditors wrote.

Europe
Italian Communist EU Foreign Minister: Prison awaits you President Trump
[LI] European Union’s Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini has issued a threat directed at U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mogherini warned President Trump that he would "end up being in a prison" for his executive orders, one which temporarily halted the entry of Syrian refugees and another which seeks to begin the construction of a southern border wall, UK newspaper Express reports.

Mogherini also lectured President Trump on European history and tradition, and on how Europeans celebrate "when walls are brought down and bridges are built."

Italian politician Mogherini played a key role in negotiating the Iran Deal or the "worst deal ever negotiated" as President Trump pointed out. She began her political career with the youth wing of the Italian communist party and made it to the post of E.U.’s High Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as a member of the ’Party of European Socialists&rsquo.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jordanian Prince On Syrian Refugees: ‘We Can't Vet These People'
[Daily Caller] Prince Faisal bin Hussein told GOP North Carolina Congressman Mark Walker the Jordanian government could not vet Syrian refugees, The Washington Examiner reports.

Walker, the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, was in Jordan at the time of the comment for a fact finding mission. The U.S. Department of State reportedly tried to tell Walker that the vetting process was thorough, just hours before Hussein told him, "we can’t vet these people."

The United Nations High Committee on Refugees believes 655,000 Syrian refugees currently reside in Jordan, dispersed across multiple camps.

Hussein’s comments echo the security concerns expressed in the executive order by President Donald Trump Friday that indefinitely suspended the Syrian refugee program. The suspension came just days after news broke that the FBI is revetting Syrian refugees allowed into the U.S. that must be revetted.

Ultrasound? Just a Trick to Make You Think Your Baby Is Alive
[PJ] The venerable Atlantic has already taken a lot of heat for this disgraceful article (see the world-class appendage of corrections at the end) but it's worth taking a brief look at to illustrate just how morally awful the pro-abortion crowd has become:

One of the first measures that Republicans in the 115th Congress proposed was the "Heartbeat Protection Act." On January 11, a group led by Steve King of Iowa introduced a bill that would require doctors nationwide to "check for a fetal heartbeat" before performing an abortion, and prohibit them from completing the procedure if they found one. In December, Republicans in the Ohio state legislature put forth a similar measure. Governor John Kasich vetoed it, observing that such a law would almost certainly be struck down as unconstitutional, but approved a 20-week abortion ban.
Opponents of the heartbeat bills have pointed out that they would eliminate abortion rights almost entirely--making the procedure illegal around four weeks after fertilization, before many women realize that they are pregnant. These measures raise even more elementary questions: What is a fetal heartbeat? And why does it matter?

The idea would have been unthinkable before the advent of a technology developed in 1976: real-time ultrasound. At six weeks, the "heartbeat" is not audible; it is visible, a flickering that takes place between 120 and 160 times per minute on a black-and-white playback screen. As cardiac cells develop, they begin to send electrical pulses that cause their neighbors to contract. Scientists can observe the same effect if they culture cells in a petri dish.

Doctors do not even call this rapidly dividing cell mass a "fetus" until nine weeks into pregnancy. Yet, the current debate shows how effectively politicians have used visual technology to redefine what counts as "life."

NewsBusters: Trump ‘Ban' 57 Times More Coverage than Obama's Cuba Ban
[Breitbart] Mainstream media networks devoted 57 times more coverage to President Donald Trump’s temporary "ban" on travel from seven terror-prone countries than they did to President Barack Obama’s permanent ban on Cuban refugees to the U.S.

That’s according to a NewsBusters investigation, which also found that "[b]etween them, ABC, CBS and NBC only spent 68 seconds during their news coverage the following morning" after Obama ended the "wet foot, dry foot" policy for Cubans.
Coming just on the heels of the raid in Yemen, perhaps 'Bannoning' was actually the goal.

Can the president ban travel here by foreign nationals?
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Heck yes.

...Here is the key and central point: Foreign Nationals outside the US have no Constitutional protections.

...Persons who are not US citizens and who are not physically present on US territory are called "foreigners." There are about seven billion of them. They have no Constitutional protections at all for the simple reason that they are under the sovereign authority of the entity wherever they may be located.

...But wait, there's more! The president enjoys that actual power right now without consulting with Congress in the slightest. Title 8, Section 1182 of the U.S. Code provides in relevant part:
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

39 ISIS Turbans have a Very Bad Day

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Thirty-nine fighters from Islamic State were killed on Tuesday after army forces pushed back an attack on troops at Tal Kusaiba, east of Salahuddin, according to a security source.

“By escalating its attacks against security troops in Salahuddin, the group is seeking to hinder any advancement towards Hawija, Kirkuk,” the source told Alsumaria News.

Since they drove out Islamic State militants from the region mid January 2016, security forces have been in control over Tal Kusaiba, fighting off occasional attacks by IS militants there.

Islamic State has escalated attacks across Iraqi provinces, including Salahuddin, since Iraqi government forces managed to retake a half of its largest bastion in the country, the city of Mosul, since October 2016. Observers believe the extremist group is trying to make up for daily losses in Mosul and to relieve security pressure on that front by attacking security and civilians at other cities.

The group has lost at least 3300 of its personnel in the operations at Mosul, and reports have been recurring about internal divisions and fighters’ escapes since government forces launched the offensives to retake Mosul.

Kops foil ISIS attack, leaves 2 Bad Guys dead

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Two Islamic State militants were killed and a militiaman was wounded on Tuesday as security troops and mobilization forces foiled an attack by the group east of Salahuddin province, a security source has said.

Security and al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) deployed in the Mutaibija region pushed back Islamic State attackers, killing two militants from the assaulting group, the source told Alsumaria News. One PMU member was wounded in the incident, the source added.

Mutaibija has recently seen occasional Islamic State militant activities against security forces.

The recent attack comes hours after another assault by the extremist group on an army deployment in Tal Kusaiba, also in the eastern region of the province, leaving 39 militants killed, according to security sources.

ISIS Bomb Guy now pining for the Fjords

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State bomb expert died Tuesday along with a companion while planting an explosive device in Salahuddin province.

The militant, nicknamed Abu Abdullah, died with a comrade when a bomb they were trying to plant at a road in the town of Shirqat went off, a security source told Alsumaria News.

He was a second-tier leader and a bomb expert at of the most outstanding booby-trapping cells in the extremist group who was involved in recent bombings over the past months, according to the source, who asked not to be named.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led military coalition and popular troops, have been battling Islamic State out of Iraqi cities it took over in 2014, most notably Mosul, its biggest stronghold, the half of which was recaptured by security forces on January 24th.

In december 2016, joint government forces said they recaptured several villages in the eastern side of Shirqat. IS still maintains a few pockets in the province, and has carried out a number of bloody attacks against security forces in the recent weeks.

Earlier on Tuesday, security and popular mobilization forces reportedly killed 42 Islamic State extremists after they foiled attacks by the group at Tal Kusaiba and Mutaibija regions.

Missile tests Iran’s inalienable defensive right: Qassemi
[Iran Press TV] Iran says missile tests are an "inalienable and absolute" right of the Islamic Theocratic Republic in order to defend its security and national interests, stressing that no country or international body can have any say in this regard.

"I emphasize the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran’s principled stance that conducting any ballistic missile test by the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran is in full compliance with its absolute rights and international obligations," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

He reaffirmed the "defensive nature" of Iran’s missile programs and said none of the country’s ballistic missiles had been designed to carry a nuclear warhead and they were, therefore, not banned under the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
Security Council Resolution 2231.

Resolution 2231 was adopted on July 20, 2015 to endorse a landmark nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

Under the resolution, Iran is "called upon" not to undertake any activity related to missiles "designed to be capable of" delivering nuclear weapons. Iran says it is not involved in any such missile work and has no such warheads.

Kurdish authorities accused of torturing captured ISIS child soldiers
[ALMASDARNEWS] A Human Rights Watch (HRW) report has accused the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq of torquing up to 17 alledged ISIS child soldiers.

"KRG authorities have established policies against acts of torture, which strongly prohibits physical and psychological torture of inmates," Dr. Dindar Zebari, the Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government High Committee to Evaluate and Respond to International Reports said on Sunday.

The HRW has also claimed that the KRG have at least 183 alledged ISIS child soldiers in jug without access to a lawyer or charges put against them.

"Legitimate security concerns do not give security forces license to beat, manhandle, or use electric shocks on children," said Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch.

"Many children escaping from ISIS are victims who need help, yet face further abuse by Asayish forces," Fakih added.

"KRG authorities should ensure the well-being of children captured after living under ISIS and not mistreat them," Fakih said. "The brutal abuse of children produces false confessions, can cause lifelong suffering, and blurs the moral line between ISIS and its foes."

al-Qaeda Yemen Top Kop dies in Lahj
ADEN: Yemeni security forces killed an Al-Qaeda leader in the province of Lahj during a raid on Tuesday, police said.

Ammar Qaid, known as Al-Qaeda’s “emir” in Lahj, was killed in an exchange of fire with “counter-terrorism” forces after refusing to surrender, said provincial police chief Saleh Sayed.

The raid in the provincial capital Huta was carried out as part of a vast operation backed by an Arab military coalition against the jihadists in Aden, Abyan and Lahj, in southwestern Yemen.

They are three of five provinces under the control of government forces at war with Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels.

In southern Hadramawt, meanwhile, suspected Al-Qaeda militants shot dead policeman Ali Al-Bekri on Monday night in the town of Qotn before fleeing, a security source told AFP.

In the north of the country, heavy clashes on Monday killed 21 loyalist soldiers and seven rebels in Midi and Haradh, military sources said.

The pro-government forces had come under fire in a minefield as they advanced, said one source.

Yemen’s long-running conflict escalated in March 2015 when a Saudi-led coalition began bombing raids against the Houthis who had stormed the capital and taken swathes of central and northern territory.

Around 7,400 people have died in air strikes and clashes since then, the UN says, and aid agencies have warned of an impending humanitarian crisis in the Arab world’s poorest nation.

Israel approves construction of 3,000 new settlement units
[Iran Press TV] Israel has announced plans for the construction of 3,000 new settler units in the occupied West Bank, its latest step in a construction binge which started directly after the inauguration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
The announcement was made late on Tuesday via a statement released by the Israeli ministry of military affairs, which stated that Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu have approved the new plans.

Following the January 20 inauguration of Trump, a pro-Israel figure, Tel Aviv launched its major settlement expansion drive.

The latest move come just days after the Tel Aviv regime announced some 2,500 new settler units in the West Bank and around 500 more in East Jerusalem al-Quds.

Last week, Netanyahu said that Israel’s settlement approval is just a "taste" of new measures, which will be taken now that Barack Obama
I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody...
is no longer the US president.

Kirkuki said in a press statement, “The Peshmerga Intelligence received information, at after noon today, indicating that the Islamic State group is moving near Sartak Village in Dibs District to attack the Kurdish forces.”

“The international coalition air force conducted an air strike, based on the received information, eliminating the targets completely,” Kirkuki added.

Kurd security forces bust up ISIS cell

[ARA News] The Kurdish security forces on Tuesday arrested a group of Islamic Stat’s (ISIS) jihadists northwest of Kirkuk city, in northern Iraq, officials said.

The ISIS-affliated cell was reportedly preparing to carry out terror attacks in Kirkuk.

“By arresting them, our forces prevented several attacks in Kirkuk,” the Kurdish security said.

The Kurdistan Region’s Security Council (KRSC) issued a statement saying: “Our Counter Terrorism Dept (CTD) and Kirkuk’s Asayish arrested six ISIS members in Bajwan in NW Kirkuk and foiled their planned attacks.”

“Their plans included attacks in Kirkuk city and Dubiz district. The group is responsible for acts of terrorism in villages West of Kirkuk,” the KRSC said.

The six ISIS suspects were identified as Barzan Mohammed [nicknamed Qahtan], who was leading the group, beside Rokan Mohammed, Nazhan Mohammed, Ahmad Mohammed, Mohammed Ali Ibrahim and Fars Mokhlaf.

This is the second time this week that the Kurdish security forces announced the arrest of ISIS suspects.

Last Monday, the KRSC and CTD announced the arrest of Ali Sleman Osman, who was involved in an attack on the US consulate in Erbil on April 17, 2015. Osman had earlier avoided arrest by fleeing the Kurdistan Region.

HUDUR, Somalia- At least 2 Southwest state soldiers were killed, and several others wounded in a deadly assault on army base at Hudur town in southern Somalia, Garowe Online reports.

Tuesday's attack occurred at Dhiil , a small area located about 20 kilometers west of Hudur town, the regional capital of Bakol region near Somalia's border with Ethiopia. At the regional level, a major byproduct of the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq in 2003 was the development of an autonomous Kurdish region in the north, bordering both Turkey and Iran. Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) was established by the traditionalist Masoud Barzani-led Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), while the modernist Kurdistan Patriotic Union (PUK) leader Jalal Talabani was made president of Iraq. That was considered one consequence of the Iraqi Kurdish parties’ collaboration with the U.S.-led occupation forces after the Turkish Parliament rejected taking part in it.

Bodies of kidnapped workers found near Baqubah

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Two Iraqi government workers who were kidnapped from their workplace last week in Diyala were found dead on Tuesday, a local official said.

Two workers at Hamorabi, a government constructions and housing company, were found dead at a valley near Zolo region (98 km northeast of Baqubah) with gunshot marks on their corpses, Alsumaria News quoted Sadeq al-Husseini, a member of the security committee at Diyala council, as saying.

Until present, the destiny of a third victim kidnapped with the dead pair remains unknown, Husseini added.

Last Wednesday, a security source revealed that a “terrorist group” attacked the company’s location at Naft Khana region and kidnapped five workers. But the province’s security committee said later there were only three missing. A local source had told Alsumaria News at the time that the kidnappers belonged to the Islamic State extremist group, but the latter has not yet declared whether it had links to the incident.

Bloody attacks and kidnappings targeting civilians and security personnel have escalated since Islamic State militants emerged in 2014 to proclaim a so-called ‘Islamic Caliphate” in the country. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said violence in the country left 19000 casualties in nine months of 2016.

ISIS imposes curfew in old Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A local source in Nineveh Province revealed that the Islamic State group imposed a curfew on the movement of citizens in the neighborhoods of old Mosul after 5 pm for unknown reasons, Alsumaria News reported on Tuesday.

The source said, “The Islamic State group imposed a curfew on the civilians’ movement in the neighborhoods of old Mosul from 5 pm to 5 am for unknown reasons.”

“There are doubts that the curfew was imposed to facilitate the transfer of weapons,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

In January 24, 2017, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced that security forces fully liberated the eastern side of Mosul from the Islamic State’s control.

Third wave of phoned bomb threats hit 17 Jewish community centers
[IsraelTimes] At least 17 Jewish community centers across the United States were targeted with bomb threats in the third wave of such mass disruptions this month.

Paul Goldenberg, the director of Secure Community Network -- an affiliate of the Jewish Federations of North America that advises Jewish groups and institutions on security -- said the threats were called in late Tuesday morning. Some of the messages were live, he confirmed.

"[I]n the past we know that the numbers can grow exponentially," he said,
..though they haven't thus far, which seems suggestive...
adding that perpetrators have been "leveraging technologies to make mass calls."

Goldenberg confirmed that threats had been called into JCCs in Albany, New York; Syracuse, New York; West Orange, New Jersey; Milwaukee, San Diego and Salt Lake City.

The JCC in New Haven, Connecticut received a live call at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday threatening violence. The JCC is housed in several locations following a Dec. 5 fire, and evacuated about 100 people from those places following the call. After law enforcement determined that the threat was not credible, the evacuees returned. The New Haven JCC was also targeted in a wave of bomb threats about two weeks ago.

"We recognize that we live under a new set of circumstances that we have to be responsive to, and take every possible precaution to keep our people safe," said New Haven JCC CEO Judy Diamondstein. "While we are disrupted, we refuse to be daunted by this."

Diamondstein said the JCC has drilled safety protocols extensively in order to be prepared for a situation like this. Diamondstein had a previously scheduled meeting Wednesday afternoon with an FBI officer to sharpen procedures for dealing with an active shooter.

"We have been diligent in looking at our security for a while now," she said.

On Jan. 18, some 30 Jewish institutions in at least 17 states received bomb threats. On Jan. 9, such threats were called into 16 JCCs across the Northwest and South, forcing the evacuation of hundreds.

Budweiser Debuts Pro-Immigration Super Bowl Ad
As if I needed another reason not to watch the Sh*t show known as the Super Bowl, watching the NFL line up advertisers who have very little to do with football insult the intelligence of fans.
[Breitbart] Budweiser has chosen the charged political issue of immigration as the subject of its Super Bowl LI commercial.

The 60-second spot explains the origin story of the beer company’s immigrant co-founder, Adolphus Busch.

The ad, titled "Born the Hard Way," begins with a young, German-born Busch being told, "You’re not wanted here! Go back home!" The big budget production eventually sees Busch land on the shores of St. Louis where he built his mega-brewery.

"This is the story of the original self-made man, one of the founders of the American Dream, making it the hard way, and his path that all came after him followed," Laura Rowan, of Budweiser’s creative branch told Adweek.

"We then see the words appear: ’When nothing will stop your dream, this is the beer you’ll drink.’ We end with the Budweiser logo and [tagline], ’This Bud’s for you,'" she said of the ad."
First Starbucks and now Budweiser, a totally foreign-owned company. (Hmmm, the ad now seems to make sense.).

Afghanistan
Afghan troops battle Taliban offensive in Helmand province
LASHKAR GAH: Afghan forces said they were holding off a Taliban offensive in Helmand province on Tuesday, as reinforcements and air support arrived.

Both sides reported heavy fighting as Taliban militants attacked government positions in Sangin district, an area where insurgents have made major gains in the past two years.

"There is heavy fighting still ongoing between the Taliban and our forces but those places that were captured by the Taliban yesterday have been taken back," said Omar Zwak, a spokesman for the governor of the southern province.

Among the reinforcements sent to the embattled district were new commando units, he said.

A regional Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, said fighters had captured at least 25 government checkpoints and killed more than 100 soldiers and police.

The Taliban used tunnels dug from houses to attack the government's front-line checkpoints, General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, commander of the 215th Army Corps, said on Monday.

Army officials said they had killed at least 19 Taliban and wounded 25.

British, American and other international forces battled the Taliban in Helmand for years after the ouster of the militant group from power in late 2001. Sangin and other districts saw sustained heavy fighting.

The Taliban have made gains in several parts of the country since most foreign combat troops withdrew from Afghanistan at the end of 2014.

The US-led coalition has redeployed hundreds of troops to Helmand, however, to train and advise Afghan forces, as well as provide occasional air support.

Navy says people-smugglers fired on coastguard vessel
[Libya Herald] A Libyan coastguard vessel was reportedly shot at from the shore by people-smugglers as it intercepted 700 migrants colonists off Sabratha.

Naval front man colonel Ayoub Qassem told AFP that, as the coastguard vessel closed with the two wooden vessels onto which the migrants colonists had been crammed, it came under fire from people-smugglers on the beach.

The coastguard reportedly returned fire and the smugglers fled. There were apparently no casualties among either the coastguards or the migrants colonists, who were described as mostly being sub-Saharan Africans.

It seems possible that the people-smugglers may have actually launched the attack from one of their own vessels since Qassem was also quoted as saying that the incident had taken place three nautical miles from the coast.

The relationship between the coastguard and the smugglers has at times appeared ambiguous. Last October a vessel with coastguard markings was filmed from a rescue ship attacking a raft with migrants colonists and apparently trying to seize its outboard motor. Panicking migrants colonists capsized their craft and as many as 20 may have drowned. The navy denied that one of their vessels had been involved.

Equally the people smugglers have been prepared to work with the authorities. Last May one gang called the coastguard to warn them that a migrant vessel was sinking.

Led by the Shaheen Group of the Tiger Forces and 5th Legion, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the area near the Jihar Crossroad, resulting in a fierce battle with the Islamic State.

According to local reports from activists in east Homs, the Syrian Arab Army has made some gains so far, despite having limited air support from the Russian and Syrian air forces this afternoon.

The Syrian Arab Army recently made some gains east of the T-4 Military Airport; however, as long as the Islamic State still holds Jabal Jazal, Jabal Shaer, Mahr Gas Fields, and Jabal Hayyan, then they will be in good position to reverse the government gains.

commander was reportedly killed in the al-Raqqa Governorate this past weekend, pro-opposition "Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently" claimed on Tuesday.

The ISIS commander, Salih Yahya Ghazali Yilmiz, was a Dutch citizen of Syrian descent before joining the Islamic State in 2013.

Yilmiz was reportedly killed on Saturday, January 28th when a U.S. Coalition warplane struck his quarters in near the al-Raqqa Governorate town of Tabaqa.

Prior to joining the Islamic State, Yilmiz was a soldier in the Royal Netherlands Army, serving for a short period before joining the terrorist group.

Yilmiz played an integral role in training Uyghur and British fighters in Syria before leading several Islamic State units in battle around al-Raqqa.

Massachusetts state joins legal effort against Trump
[Iran Press TV] The US state of Massachusetts is taking part in a legal battle against President Donald Trump

Attorney General Maura Healey said Tuesday that the state was both joining a federal lawsuit filed Friday and filing its own lawsuit against the ban.

Trump issued an executive order late Friday to impose a 90-day entry ban on citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia, block refugees from Syria indefinitely, and suspend all refugee admissions for 120 days.

"During his campaign, President Trump called for a 'complete shutdown on Moslems entering the US.' On Friday he acted to make good on that promise," Healey told news hounds at her office in Massachusetts’ capital, Boston. "Over the past three days my office has closely reviewed the language of the order and its many impacts ... the executive order is harmful, discriminatory and unconstitutional. It discriminates on the basis of religion and national origin."

Morocco rejoins African Union after more than 30 years
Morocco has been readmitted to the African Union more than three decades after it left when the continental body recognised the independence of the disputed territory of Western Sahara. Hopes that the move could pave the way for peace-building were bolstered after Western Sahara – regarded by Morocco as part of its historic territory – welcomed the readmission.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, who had been campaigning since last year to join the bloc, told African leaders at the AU summit in Addis Ababa: “Africa is my home, and I am coming back home.”

The foreign minister of Western Sahara (officially the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic), Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, said on Monday that Morocco’s readmission was a “positive step for the people of Western Sahara”.

A former Spanish colony, Western Sahara was annexed by Morocco in 1975 and was the focus of conflict between Morocco and indigenous people led by the Polisario Front until a UN-brokered truce brought the armed insurgency to a halt in 1991.

A UN-supervised referendum on independence was supposed to be held in 1992 but was aborted when Morocco objected to the proposed electoral register, which it said was biased in favour of secession. A UN peacekeeping mission that attempted to organise the vote has remained in the territory ever since, monitoring the 2,700km-long sand wall built by the Moroccan army across the desert that separates the two sides.

Thirty-nine countries supported Morocco’s bid for readmission into the AU this week but nine voted against it, according to sources quoted by the Associated Press. The nine “were countries in southern Africa, except Swaziland”, said the source, who added that most of the debate was related to Western Sahara’s border.

Morocco, the only country in Africa that was not a member of the AU, left its predecessor, the Organisation of African Unity, in 1984 after a majority of the member states recognised the disputed territory of Western Sahara.

Chad’s foreign minister was elected on Monday as the new chairman of the African Union Commission, pledging to place development and security at the top of his agenda and streamline the organisation’s bureaucracy. Moussa Faki Mahamat – a former prime minister who has been at the forefront of the fight against Islamist militants in Nigeria, Mali and the Sahel – was chosen at the summit in Addis Ababa.

Symbolic tomato statue attacked with gun in Turkey’s Burdur
Too feminine to be seen unveiled or idiot yoots?
[Hurriyet Daily News] A tomato statue located at the entrance of the Mediterranean province of Burdur’s Cavdir district was attacked with a gun on Jan. 31, Dogan News Agency has reported.

A signboard with the large tomato statue that says "Welcome to Sögut town" was erected six months ago in the district, which is known for producing 70,000 tons of tomatoes on average every year.

The attack was first carried out with a gun and was later attacked again with a hunting rifle.

"They attacked with a gun first, but they could not demolish it. Then they attacked with a hunting rifle, but again they could not topple it. It is still standing," Salih Yavuz, the mayor of Sögut, said.

Turkey arrests 2 more pro-Kurdish MPs ahead of referendum
[Iran Press TV] Turkish authorities have detained two politicians from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) in the latest move against party members ahead of a referendum on constitutional amendment.

The HDP's official front man Ayhan Bilgen and another politician representing the eastern province of Kars were taken into custody on Tuesday by a court order before a trial following his arrest by police on Sunday at an Ankara airport, after which he was transferred to the Kurdish-majority city of Diyarbakir in the country's southeast, state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

According to the report, Bilgen was detained and held on charges of "membership in an armed terror organization."

The other prominent HDP politician, identified as the party's legal expert Meral Danis Bestas, was also taken into custody after being initially incarcerated

Europe
Muslim women in Austria prohibited from wearing full-face veils
[Iran Press TV] Austria’s ruling centrist coalition has banned Moslem women from wearing full-face veils, such as burqas and niqabs, in public places like schools and courts.

On Tuesday, Austria became the latest European nation to take such measures and has announced that it is mulling the prohibition of headscarves for women working in public services.

The measures are part of a reform package issued by the ruling Social Democratic party (SPÖ) and the center-right Austrian People’s party (ÖVP) aimed at preventing the collapse of their coalition which almost fell left week during crisis negotiations.

"We are committed to an open society, which also presupposes open communication. A full-face veil in public places stands in its way and will therefore be banned," said a statement released by the coalition.

A government front man noted that tourist destination, such as ski resorts, and Vienna’s center are also included in the ban.

Other new policies were also agreed upon such as the increasing of the country’s CCTV network and a mandatory "integration year" for refugees, during which they have to commit to learning German and work in charitable organizations.

Similar restrictions have also been adopted in La Belle France and Belgium since 2011 while the Netherlands introduced a partial ban in 2015. Last year, Germany's Chancellor Merkel also called for banning the full-face veil.

Ibrahim Olgun, the director of Austria’s Islamic Faith Community, has slammed the ban, stressing that it would "pull the rug" from under attempts being made to establish a good working relationship between the Austrian government and the country’s Moslem population.

DNC boots candidate from chairman's race for accurate critique of Ellison's Islamic faith
[The Hill] DNC boots candidate from chairman’s race for criticizing Ellison’s Islamic faith.

The Democratic National Committee is kicking a candidate out of the chairman’s race after he told The Hill that Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) should not be the party’s next leader because he is a Muslim.

In a Jan. 5 email to The Hill, Vincent Tolliver, a former House candidate in Arkansas, said that Ellison, the first-ever Muslim elected to Congress, should not be chairman because of Islamic positions on homosexuality.

“His being a Muslim is precisely why DNC voters should not vote for him,” Tolliver wrote. “Muslims discriminate against gays. Islamic law is clear on the subject, and being gay is a direct violation of it. In some Muslim countries, being gay is a crime punishable by death.”

“Clearly, Mr. Ellison is not the person to lead the DNC or any other organization committed to not discriminating based on gender identity or sexual orientation,” Tolliver continued. “I'm shocked HRC [Human Rights Campaign] has been silent on the issue. A vote for Representative Ellison by any member of the DNC would be divisive and unconscionable, not to mention counterproductive to the immediate and necessary steps of rebuilding the Democratic Party.”

A spokesperson for Tolliver said he stands by the statement.

Pentagon believes attack on Saudi frigate meant for US warship
[FOXNEWS] The Iranian-backed suicide kaboom targeting a Saudi frigate off the coast of Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
on Monday may have been meant for an American warship, two defense officials told Fox News.

The incident in question occurred in the southern Red Sea and was carried out by Iranian-backed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels. Two Saudi sailors were killed and three were maimed. At first the ship was thought to have been struck by a missile.

But based on new analysis of a video showing the attack, American intelligence officials now believe this was, in fact, a jacket wallah whose small boat rammed the side of the Saudi vessel.

In the audio heard on the video, a voice narrating the attack shouts in Arabic, "Death to America, Death to Israel, Death to the Jews."

U.S. defense analysts believe those behind the attack either thought the bomber was striking an American warship or that this was a "dress rehearsal" similar to the attack on the USS Cole, according to one official.

Tom Cotton suggests ordering sergeant at arms to force Dems to vote on nominations
They did something like that in Wisconsin after they found the runaways...
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton on Tuesday suggested ordering the sergeant at arms to force Democrats to vote for President Trump's nominees at the committee level, ratcheting up the rhetoric after Democrats delayed the votes with a boycott Tuesday morning.

"I don't know how long they plan to do this," the Republican said from the Senate floor. "I don't know if they intend to abscond out of the District, if we're going to have to vote to have the sergeant at arms track them down, haul them to work to do their business."

Gesturing toward the sergeant at arms, Cotton remarked that "he has a distinguished record in military and law enforcement. He could probably do that effectively."

Cotton is not a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which tried Tuesday morning to hold votes on the nominations of Steven Mnuchin to be treasury secretary and Rep. Tom Price of Georgia, to be secretary of health and human services. Democrats stopped the vote by refusing to show up and denying a quorum. At least one Democrat has to be present for a quorum.

#4  IIRC, in mid-April '93 I was on the computer with C-SPAN covering the House Chamber in the background. Background noise, mostly, then I noticed that the Republican addressing the House was really pissed-off, not the faux outrage, but genuinely mad.
Synopsis: the previous afternoon the Budget Committee adjourned, the Republicans went home, the Democrats went to a White House meeting, pencilled in new numbers and met again without informing the minority members. Next morning the ranking minority member (Republican) got a single copy *AND* was told that the vote was scheduled at 1100 EST that same morning.

Sic transit bipartisanship -- for the rest of that Congress. Anyway, as long as the meetings are published in advance and not held in secret I personally would love to see this temper tantrum squashed like a bug.

CEO Tells People ‘Rest Easy,’ Predicts Trump Assassination Within 100 Days
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Ted Kornblum, Founder and CEO of Magnatone guitar amplifier company, posted on Jan. 30, "Rest easy people, it’ll take only 100 days till Trump gets a bullet in the head!"

Kornblum posted the statement via his personal Facebook page, which now appears to have been deactivated. He issued an apology on the Magnatone company Facebook page for the original post. That page may also have been taken down. The content had been visible on the Magnatone website early Jan. 31.

In that apology, Kornblum downplayed the seriousness of his original post stating, "Earlier today a frivolous, insensitive political post went out on Facebook. It should not have. Magnatone is not a political organization, respects the beliefs and opinions of all people and does business accordingly."

He also said "I sincerely regret this careless mistake, and apologize to anyone, anywhere, who may have been offended."
If someone wasn't offended, are you then not sorry? This is NOT an apology.
Many people, including talk radio host John Cardillo, have reported the incident to law enforcement and Secret Service through social media.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Coalition supplied armored vehicles to SDF for first time
The US-led international coalition against ISIS provided its allies in Syria with armored vehicles, a spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said and a US colonel confirmed.

“The armored vehicles and troop carriers had arrived four or five days ago,” Talal Silo told Reuters on Tuesday. “Previously we didn't get support in this form, we would get light weapons and ammunition.”

Silo said the vehicles would be used to support the SDF’s ongoing offensive on ISIS-held Raqqa, which the extremist group claimed as its capital. The SDF is a coalition of forces including the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), the Syrian Arab Coalition, and Turkmen and Assyrian elements. During its campaign for Raqqa, the SDF has also added many local fighters to its ranks.

The US-led coalition has been backing the SDF as a key ally on the ground fighting ISIS in northern Syria, providing advice, air support, and some arms. American officials, however, have been very clear that the arms they supply are to the Syrian Arab Coalition and not Kurdish forces, who are dominant members of the SDF.

The US is balancing its support of the YPG and SDF with its alliance with fellow NATO member Turkey who considers the YPG to be a terrorist group with ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Coalition spokesperson, Col. John Dorrian, confirmed that they have provided vehicles to the Syrian Arab Coalition.

"We have provided armored Sport Utility Vehicles to the Syrian Arab Coalition using existing authorities, in the interest of helping protect our partnered force from the [ISIS] improvised-explosive device threat," Dorrian told AFP news agency on Tuesday. "The decision was made by military commanders, and has been in the works for some time.”

The process of delivering the supplies began under the administration of former US President Barack Obama.

A US general commented to USA Today in mid-January that the US air force had been increasing airdrops of weapons, ammunition and other equipment to opposition forces who are closing in on Raqqa.

The SDF is leading Operation Euphrates Wrath to retake the city of Raqqa from ISIS. They have liberated large amounts of territory north and west of the city and have imposed a crescent-shaped siege on Raqqa that they are looking to extend eastward.

Niger's migrant smuggling hub empties after EU crackdown
[Ynet] In a dirt-floored room in the town of Agadez in Niger, a pair of flip-flops and a cold pile of ashes are all that remain of what was once a teeming stopover for migrants colonists preparing the fraught journey across the Saharan Desert and onwards to Europe.

Less than a year ago, Agadez was a boomtown - a hub for smuggling networks that profited off migrants colonists seeking a better life and opportunities in Europe. But that was before the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, working with Niger's government, bankrolled a crackdown on the trade.

"We have seen the numbers fall dramatically since August," said Marina Schramm, deputy chief of mission at the International Organization for Migration, which monitors migrant flows at two points in the Agadez region.

"Before, we saw several thousand passages per week. Now we're close to zero ... several dozen," she said, noting that numbers normally fall in the winter, but not by so much.
I seem to recall that the west coast of Africa has some extensive experience, going back several centuries, in the collection and packaging of people for shipment to another continent...

Great White North
'Islamophobia killed Canadians': anti-Muslim rhetoric blamed in Québec attack
Thousands of Canadians from coast to coast have sought to show their support for victims of a shooting spree on a Québec City mosque, as the country struggled to comprehend how one of Canada’s safest cities had become the setting for an attack described by the country’s prime minister as an act of terror.

Just steps away from the mosque, residents braved the bitter cold to leave flowers and handwritten signs of support in nearby snowbanks.

Alexandre Bissonnette, a 27-year-old university student, was charged with six counts of first-degree murder and five charges of attempted murder on Monday. Those who knew Bissonnette described him as pro-Donald Trump, anti-immigration and sympathetic to the far right, prompting many to ask whether the current political climate had laid the ground for the attack.
He's a native of Morocco, Muslim, and mentally disturbed, but don't let any of that stop you...
Isn't that the second one, whom the authorities decided was actually a witness?
The gunman unleashed a scene of “unspeakable brutality”, the Québec City Islamic cultural center, also known as the Grande Mosquée de Québec, wrote on its Facebook page.

“Gunshots, deaths, loading of ammunition, the cries of the injured. Blood on the prayer rugs. Practically a scene of war, here in our home of Quebec City, our city known for its peacefulness. Children witnessed this vile cruelty.”

Six men – all fathers – were fatally shot in the back as they prayed. Another 19 people were injured. On Tuesday, two remained in critical condition in hospital.

“It’s horrific. Horrific … in our magnificent city, it’s horrific,” said Régis Labeaume, Québec city’s mayor.

Home to just over 500,000 people, the city saw just one homicide in all of 2016. Now it has become the setting for one of Canada’s worst mass murders in recent years.

Over recent months, the mosque had been targeted in a series of attacks that rattled the city’s tight-knit Muslim community. Swastikas had been spray-painted on the walls of the mosque and a gift-wrapped pig’s head was left on the doorstep of the mosque during Ramadan, with a note reading “bon appétit”.

Weeks later, neighbours received a pamphlet alleging ties between the mosque and terrorism. “Security at our mosque was our major, major concern,” said Mohamed Labidi, the facility’s vice-president. “But we were caught off-guard.”

Administrators of the mosque had installed security cameras both inside and outside the mosque, said Boufeldja Benabdallah, the mosque’s co-founder. “We don’t live in a climate of fear, but we do take precautions.”

Similar measures have been taken at mosques across Canada. Within just three years, the number of police-reported hate crimes against Muslims in Canada more than doubled, from 45 in 2012 to 99 in 2014, according to Statistics Canada.

“Islamophobia has killed innocent Canadians,” the Canadian Council of Imams said in a statement on Monday. “As we pray for those who have lost their lives, the injured and their loved ones, we ask all decent people to stand against hatred of Islam and Muslims in all forms.”

Some pointed to the political right for helping to create a climate that fostered the escalating hostility towards Muslims. “This mosque attack is no accident,” MP Michael Chong said on Twitter on Monday. “It’s a direct result of demagogues and wannabe demagogues playing to fears and prejudices.”

Chong alluded to Trump, as well as Kellie Leitch, an MP who of late has floated the idea that all immigrants, refugees and visitors to Canada should be screened for anti-Canadian values before being allowed in the country. Chong and Leitch are among more than a dozen candidates running for leadership of the federal Conservative party.

“It’s time to say, ‘enough.’” Chong added in a Facebook post. “Playing footsie with hate is anathema to Canadians’ values. It is dangerous, it is cynical and we need to root it out.”

Leitch released a statement saying: “This outrageous act of violence is an attack not just on those gathered in a house of worship, but on the very fabric of Canadian society.”

Russian Long Range Aviation destroys 2 ISIS HQs
[al-Manar] Russian long-range bombers have destroyed two ISIL command centers, along with weapons and ammunition depots in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province – the latest in a series of strikes against the ‘jihadists’ in the area, the Russian Defense Ministry has announced.

“On January 30, six Tu-22M3 long-range bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces took off from an airfield located in the territory of the Russian Federation, flew over territories of Iraq and Iran, and carried out an airstrike on ISIS terrorists’ targets in the Deir Ezzor province of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The precision strikes targeted and destroyed two Islamic State ISIL command centers, weapons and ammunition depots in addition to ‘jihadist’ manpower, according to the statement. Sukhoi-30SM and Sukhoi-35S fighter jets from the Hmeimim air base provided protection for the Russian bombers.

a Berlin police spokesperson reportedly told news agency AFP that there was no evidence of an immediate attack.

The men's desire to travel to IS training camps may still have been in preparation for an attack, police admitted.

Police on Tuesday also reportedly raided the "Fussilet" mosque in the Moabit district of the German capital, which the men are believed to have often visited. The mosque on Perleberger Strasse is connected to the Fussilet 33 association, which has been under police surveillance for allegedly trying to recruit new members for IS.

Anis Amri, who killed 12 people in an attack on a Berlin Christmas marketon December 19, also had links to the mosque. Surveillance footage showed Tunisian national Amri entering the mosque the day after he committed the attack.

It was the latest expression of impatience by African leaders with the court, which some say has focused too narrowly on Africa while pursuing cases of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Late last year, South Africa, Burundi and the Gambia all announced plans to leave the court, leading to concerns that other states would follow.

Desire Assogbavi, head of Oxfam International’s liaison office to the summit, confirmed the adoption of the strategy. A source close to the continental body’s legal council also confirmed it, saying countries had been divided on whether to call for leaving the court individually or together.

The source said the majority of countries also wanted the meaning of immunity and impunity amended in the Rome Statute, the treaty that set up the court in 2002. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the press.

Some African countries have been especially critical of the ICC for pursuing heads of state.
And there's the problem...
Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir has been wanted by the court since 2009 for allegedly orchestrating atrocities in Darfur. The ICC also caused an uproar among some African nations by indicting Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta on charges of crimes against humanity for 2007 post-election violence in which more than 1,000 died. The case collapsed because of what the ICC prosecutor called lack of cooperation by Kenya’s government.

#1  Give them green cards. Green card holders get the same taxes and benefits as citizens so when citizen compete with a green card holder its fair. Contrast that to competing with an H1B whose total costs with no ss, workman's comp, bennies, insurance etc is %20 to %30 less than a citizens. Right now H1B is similar in concept to an indentured servant from the capital cost point of view.

I've worked in many places as a consultant where H1Bs were numerous but virtually none of the work was such that an American couldn't have been trained up to fill it.

I agree, eliminate the H1B program and issue green cards instead. One thing they seems to not notice, is that the ban only applies to seven high risk countries and not to any of the others so far. So really, it's a moot point for them, they seems to be making noises for some reasons.

Police had launched an investigation into the incident while the baby was in intensive care unit.

The baby died from injuries a day after being brought to hospital, while the mother and the two men were detained and referred to court.

US: Female Al-Qaeda combatants killed in Yemen raid
More on this story from a few days ago.
[AFP] US special forces who led a rare ground assault against Al-Qaeda in Yemen over the weekend killed women fighting alongside male troops, the Defense Department said Monday.

"There were a lot of female combatants" in Sunday's battle, said Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis. "Female fighters ran to pre-established positions as though they had trained to be ready."

The US special forces mounted the raid in the Yakla region of Baida province against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which Washington views as the global terror network's most dangerous branch.

A US service member was killed during a firefight and three others were injured in a hard landing of a V-22 Osprey military aircraft nearby, Davis said. On the AQAP side, 14 fighters, including women, were killed, according to the Pentagon. The jihadist militant group said nearly 30 people were killed, including women and children.

The Pentagon declined to say whether children were among the fatalities and stated that the death toll was still being evaluated.

The operation, which President Donald Trump said "will assist the US in preventing terrorism against its citizens and people around the world," was the first major US military action in Yemen since he took office on January 20.

According to the Pentagon, it was aimed at gathering information, using a lightning raid by special forces to seize the maximum amount of documents, computers or other electronic devices before pulling back. The US military notably wants to be able to improve intelligence on AQAP operations after the militants redeployed to the interior of the country after being chased from the coastal areas between Mukalla in the southeast and Aden.

The raid authorized by Trump was in preparation for some time and former president Barack Obama was aware of it, the spokesman said.

"There were operational reasons to why it did not happen, say, two weeks ago," when Obama was still the commander-in-chief, Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said.
No doubt.

last year to join al-Qaeda has been killed in a US raid, sources to Al Arabiya confirmed.

Arwa Baghdadi was killed during the US military Arclight airstrikes on the Yemeni village Yacla, sources said, but did not reveal the fate of her two sons.

Baghdadi was killed a short distance away from where eight-year-old Nawar al-Awlaki was killed. Nawar was the daughter of a US-born Yemeni murderous Moslem preacher who was killed in a dronezap by the B.O. regime.

Issam Taher, Baghdadi’s father declined to comment on her death. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
Nizar Taher, one of the brothers of Baghdadi, told Al Arabiya English he was flabbergasted by the news, saying: "I didn’t know. We didn’t hear anything. It’s sad. Despite our differences, she was so precious and she had a good heart."

Nizar stressed that he had no communication with his sister since she moved to Yemen, noting that his parents also lost contact with her due to the internet and network blackouts.

On the issue of his sister’s murderous Moslem beliefs, he asserted: "My sister was among those who were affected by the speeches calling for the toppling of the regime of infidels. She got carried away, like many others, especially after the events of September 11, 2001."

Baghdadi, 35 years old, had a bachelor’s degree in Islamic culture. Before leaving Soddy Arabia

4 ISIS Bad Guys eat Iraqi steel

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes by U.S.-led coalition fighter jets killed on Tuesday four Islamic State militants at a drones mini-factory run by the group in western Anbar, a security source has said.

The source told Aljournal news that intelligence information revealed that the strike destroyed the factory located near the Grand Mosque at the center of the IS-held town of Annah. The four militants killed in the strike included a Tajik drone expert, according to the source.

Militants barred civilians from going out of their homes so as not to expose the extent of the damage the factory had sustained in the offensive, the source stated.

“IS have manufactured tens of reconnaissance and bomb-supplied drones to target security forces,” according to the source.

Islamic State has been holding a number of towns in western Anbar, close to the borders with Syria, since it emerged in 2014 to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate” on Iraqi territory. Army and U.S.-led fighter aircraft have occasionally pounded the group’s locations at those regions.

No official security campaign has been declared by the government yet to recapture western Anbar towns as its forces have been busy since mid October struggling to retake Mosul, Islamic State’s biggest stronghold in the country. Anbar’s military command launched a brief offensive early January, which succeeded in recapturing a few villages before halting again.

15 die in Iraqi airstrikes in al-Qaim

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes by unidentified fighter jets left 15 civilian casualties at western Anbar on Tuesday, a local source has said.

A woman and a child were killed and 13 other civilians were wounded in an airstrike by unknown military aircraft at a residential area at the city of al-Qaem, Islamic State’s biggest pocket in the province, Sputnik News agency quoted a local source as saying.

This is not the first time botched airstrikes leave civilian casualties since Iraqi government troops and allied U.S.-led air forces launched a campaign to drive IS militants out of Iraq.

A similar airstrike at Qaem’s al-Karabla region on January 6th left five civilians dead and 16 others injured.

In December, fighter jets, believed to be Iraqi, killed at least 130 civilians by mistake, also in Qaem. The incident sparked wide-scale condemnation in Iraq, and generals at the Iraqi military and the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Iraq denied responsibility for the airstrike.

An airstrike targeting a medical unit supposedly occupied by Islamic State militants in the Mosul district of Hammam al-Alil last October killed eight civilians, according to Human Rights Watch, which urged air forces engaged in battles against the group to ensure civilians’ safety.

ISIS Activates Terror Cells in Nile Valley
Cairo- Egyptian experts said that ISIS has activated its cells in the Nile valley away from the peninsula of Sinai, where it targeted security officers over the past three years. These warnings came with the release of a local study highlighting the flow of huge financial sums to fund terrorist operations in Egypt. According to the study, such sums have played the biggest role in the revival of the Takfiri movements. These reports coincided with many significant measures taken by the Egyptian authorities.

Egyptian observers have highlighted the increase of ISIS attacks in and around Cairo during 2016 compared with 2015, during which attacks were focused in Sinai. Observers saw that the organization has sought to expand its terrorism plans out of Sinai.

ISIS’ al-Haq News Agency published addresses of 5000 police officers in Egypt who live far from Sinai, along with the types and colors of their cars and pledged to make use of these addresses soon. According to reports, these officers serve in Delta and the Valley region.

It is worth noting that ISIS claimed responsibility for the biggest and most dangerous attack that targeted the Coptic Church in Cairo in December; the attack killed 28 people and provoked local and international convictions.

Back to “Takfir”
On another hand, a recent Egyptian study said that terrorist groups in the country received huge funds, which highly contributed to the revival of Takfiri movements. Some old groups like “Al-Jihad” and “Jamaa Islamiya”, which used to focus on preaching, announced that they have adopted violent approaches. They have also resumed their speech of Takfir, and some of their members have pledged allegiance to ISIS.

For his part, Security Expert Alsayed Abdul Mohsen said that ISIS’ operations in Delta depend on small groups that work discretely and intercommunicate through social media websites like Facebook and twitter to launch new attacks that would be adopted by ISIS later. He added that ISIS also uses social media to recruit new members to work according to the lone wolves strategy.

ISIS succeeds on the financial level
Back to the study conducted by Dar al-Iftaa, it said that ISIS’ economy, which makes part of the global economy, has been one of the major reasons behind the group’s survival in the Arab and international arena despite all the hits it has faced.

ISIS Amaq News Agency reported that terrorist attacks launched by ISIS in 2015 ranged between 50 and 60, then, surged to 80-100. This number of attacks requires huge amounts of money. According to the study, attacks launched on “one day” cost USD15 million. It has also revealed that ISIS’ economy is not random as many think and does not only depend on taxes and drug smuggling, but also on more important resources that can cover the huge costs of the group’s war.

Money laundering
The Egyptian study said that terrorist organizations cooperate with businessmen, corruptive groups, and commercial companies in some countries to cover their suspicious economy in money laundering. Groups use these discrete operations aiming at investing these funds and securing their growth in order to cover the war cost, and to deepen their investments through international networks working in the global economy.

The study also said that the extremist groups’ economy depends on weakening economies of countries fighting terrorism by hitting the sources of national income like tourism and oil.

Reports of the Egyptian Ministry of Interior
The Ministry of Interior announced the capture of many cells that belong to ISIS; arrested members held banknotes and plans of attacks. Some security analysts considered that ISIS’ focus on Egypt makes a logical step following the loss of its territories in Syria and Iraq.

Security experts asserted that ISIS has sought to change its strategy in Egypt by targeting Delta and Nile Valley regions to confuse security bodies.

Observers suggested that security forces should concentrate intelligence activities to collect information and reports in cooperation with Sinai’s residents to halt activities by armed cells and to control the routes they use to smuggle money and weapons.

Mosul Offensive News
ISIS attack stopped in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces fought off an attack by Islamic State in northeastern Mosul, while an IED explosion killed three children in the western region, military and security sources said Tuesday.

Major Ali Mohsen, form the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Forces, was quoted by Bas News as saying that Islamic State militants carried out a wide-scale attack on the villages of Geliokhana and Rashidiya, northeast of the city, which were among the last few regions security forces recaptured from the extremist group in the east.

“The group launched the attack using suicide bombers and booby-trapped vehicles,” said Mohsen, who added that army forces, backed by aircraft from the U.S.-led international military coalition, managed to hold them off.

Security forces intensified their deployment in the area after the attack, said Mohsen, who added that forces are also besieging villages in the west preparing to invade them.

In western Mosul, a local source said three children were killed when an explosive device planted by Islamic State militants in their home exploded.

The source, who asked not to be named, told Alsumaria News that the house belonged to a security agent who had previously been executed by IS militants two years earlier. “It was booby-trapped a while ago by the group as part of its strategy to booby-trap houses as security forces near launching operations to retake western Mosul,” said the source. “The reason the children entered the home is still a mystery,” he added.

The Iraqi government said on January 24th its forces became in full control over eastern Mosul after three months of battles with IS. Preparations are running to invade the group-held west.

Iraqi airstrikes targets ISIS boats, 17 ISIS fighters die

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi fighter jets killed 17 Islamic State militants and destroyed six of their boats in western Mosul, the defense ministry media said Tuesday.

The defense ministry’s War Media Cell said the strike, which targeted the district of Badush, was carried out based on intelligence information. Six vehicles belonging to the group were also burned in the strike, according to the media service.

The Iraqi government said on January 24th its forces, backed by U.S.-led international coalition jets and advisers, recaptured the whole of eastern Mosul from Islamic State militants after three months of battles that left 3300 extremists killed. The forces are preparing to invade the west where the extremist group still maintains a majority of territory near its strongholds in Syria. Iraqi and U.S. generals are predicting a more difficult battle there due to the density of residential areas and concerns for the safety of civilians.

Several group fighters have reportedly fled the eastern section to the west via the Tigris River, which bisects the city, and many either drowned or were shot dead by security troops.

The conflict in Mosul has left 191.000 civilians displaced at refugee camps. The United Nations had voiced concerns for the fate of 750.000 civilians still stranded in IS-held districts in western Mosul.

ISIS Big Turban dies in US airstrike

[ARA News] Erbil – A US-led coalition airstrike killed a number of Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants, including a jihadist leader, in the Iraqi city of Mosul on Tuesday.

At least five ISIS members were killed, including the ISIS security official Sarhan al-Souri, when a US airstrike hit western Mosul.

Informed local sources told ARA News that the air raid targeted an ISIS security office in the Islah Ziraai neighbourhood in the western part of Mosul city, in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh Governorate.

Sarhan al-Souri, a Syrian jihadist, was the chief of the ISIS-led Security Commission of Western Mosul.

“Al-Souri was responsible for torturing and executing dozens of innocent people in Mosul,” the head of Nineveh media centre, Raafat al-Zarari, told ARA News.

According to Zarari, al-Souri was a direct target for Tuesday’s airstrike.

“The elimination of senior ISIS officials is a top priority for the US-led coalition in the Mosul air campaign at the moment,” he said.

#1  I hope our guys are conducting a thorough AAR on what is working/not working in this fight. ISIS' use of numerous VBIEDs, small drones, and alternate comms caused chaos even against Iraqi SOF.

"A girl of around 10 came by the military barracks and was trying to cross the road into the IDP (internally displaced persons) camp," he told AFP. "She was asked to stop by soldiers. But she ignored them. They threatened to shoot her if she didn't stop. She obeyed and she was asked to lift up her hijab.

"She did and explosives were found to be strapped on her. Suddenly she pulled on the trigger and went kaboom!."

No-one else was injured, said Ahmad, who added it was the second attempt on the camp in recent weeks. On January 18, a young woman and a teenage boy were shot when they refused to stop for a search and went kaboom! just outside the camp, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, at least one person was killed when a jacket wallah went kaboom! at a mosque at Dalori, on the outskirts of Maiduguri, during morning prayers, residents and the authorities said. Shuaibu Abubakar said the blast happened at about 5:30 am (0430 GMT) as a suicide bomber tried to enter the place of worship.

"One of the worshippers, who was apparently on guard, grabbed him and the explosives went off, killing both of them. Worshippers were saved," he said.

Tens of thousands of people displaced by the conflict are currently living at two camps set up at Dalori.

The Grand Turk
The consequences of tolerating jihadist terrorists
[Hurriyet Daily News] It has recently been revealed that the terrorist who featured in a propaganda video for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), Hasan Aydin, who was seen with two kidnapped Turkish citizens, of which one was a soldier, was caught on April 2, 2012 and was released after eight months in prison.

Aydin was tried together with Ilhami Bali, the person in charge for borders for the organization, in an al-Qaeda case involving eight other defendants. The case, which opened in 2012 and ended in 2015, ruled Aydin should be sentenced to six years and three months in prison.

It was determined that Aydin was running a mobile dealership in the southern province of Adana and had obtained phone lines using other peoples’ identities to use for the communications of ISIS.

In the same case file, there is information that Aydin had met al-Qaeda’s Syria administrator Marouf Ossi in Adana and had picnicked together.

What I’m trying to draw your attention to here is that, while his trial was ongoing, Aydin was released at the end of eight months, on Dec. 3, 2012.

Al-Qaeda is a terror network and it has carried out atrocious massacres in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, and Aydin is a person who is known to be a member of this terror organization, who has forged telephone lines under other names so that members of the organization can communicate easily, and who has been able to meet the group’s Syria commander in Turkey.

Somehow the court had not taken into account his membership to a terrorist organization, and released him at the end of his eighth month in prison. This ruling was done in a country where people could be held in jail for years for even the most minimal of crimes.

This is not the only time Aydin has been protected by invisible hands. Mind you, these are happening in a country where even elected deputies are being jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
and put in prison while their trials are still ongoing.
He is known to have entered Syria with his family four months after his release.

On the other hand, there is the fact that ISIS’s Syria emir is able to enter and exit the country easily, and meet with members of his organization in Adana and have picnics with them. These guys would easily walk in and out of Turkey and carry out activities in Turkey.

The terrorist, who was apprehended, had managed to be released in a very short time and was able to cross into Syria.

All these point out to the era that this country had gone through; for the sake of "toppling Bashir al-Assad," the activities of jihadist turbans were tolerated. During the same time, these terror organizations were able to set up their cells in Turkey, were able to recruit new turbans and gain new sympathizers.

If today we have a damned ISIS terror hanging above our head, one of its reasons, date back to those days.

Pakistan claims soldier killed in firing from Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak security officials claim a soldier died after sustaining injuries from firing along the Durand Line.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pak military, in a statement said the incident took place on Saturday close to Khyber Agency

"Terrorists fired from across on a Pak post in Khyber Agency critically injuring Sepoy Waqas performing duty at the border post," the statement said.

The statement further added "Terrorists are resorting to fire from across the border, taking advantage of weak border control on Afghanistan side."

"There is a requirement to check terrorists’ freedom of movement on the Afghan side of the border," the statement added.

Former US Deputy of State urges Trump to support the YPG against ISIS
[ALMASDARNEWS] Antony J. Blinken, former Deputy Secretary of State in the B.O. regime, called on Trump to directly arm Syrian Kurds to take Raqqa, regardless of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

to help Turkey to take al-Bab city in northern Syria and to kill the leadership of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the report continued.

This is contradicted by the fact that the Syrian Kurds are mostly a part of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) who are the Syrian wing of the PKK.

"The only fighters capable of seizing Raqqa belong to our most effective partner on the ground -- the Syrian Democratic Forces, a mixture of Arabs and Kurds dominated by the People’s Protection Units, a Kurdish militia," Blinken said.
