Signal Magazine: Disruptive by Design: How Pokemon Is Go-ing to Transform Cyber Training
The U.S. Defense Department and the federal government could piggyback on the recent blockbuster popularity of Pokemon Go, the location-based augmented reality game that catapulted some couch potatoes from their sofas to the great outdoors, to transform cyber training. The mobile app, an overnight international sensation, combines the virtual world of Pokemon with the real world in which people live.

The gaming craze offers insights on how to excite people to partake in—and really learn from—cybersecurity training.

One area that deserves scrutiny is computer-based training (CBT). The U.S. Air Force already is reviewing how much CBT airmen need for pre-deployment training and to stay up to date on human resources policies. “Can there be other methods used to deliver [training] that are more efficient and effective—and over what period of time?” Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James Cody asked in the Air Force Times in 2015. “Does it all have to be done at the same time, or can we space some of this out and have it build on each other?”

Perhaps the most well-known CBT effort is the Defense Department’s mandatory Cyber Awareness Challenge, an annual training course for service members and civilian employees that covers everything from identifying office hazards to protecting classified data and safeguarding networks against cyberthreats. There is also the joint service Level A Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) training, a multihour CBT course meant to teach personnel traveling outside of the United States survival techniques should they become isolated, captured or detained. These endeavors could prove more valuable—and less excruciating—if developers mirrored the way players tackle the Pokemon Go game. They could incorporate interactive teaching methods and use the outdoors for training scenarios. After all, how much can someone really apply survival techniques if he or she is learning wilderness survival skills while sitting in front of a computer desk indoors?

And then there is the Air Force’s Self-Aid and Buddy Care (SABC) training, a mishmash of lessons that combines CBT about deployments, injuries and general safety with hands-on demonstrations, such as how to apply tourniquets. Again, these are lessons imparted when students sit in the comfort of an office.
There was a time when using film, TV and computers for training were new and strange, too.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The End Of Identity Politics
h/t Instapundit
...This shift from the ideal of the melting pot to the triumph of salad-bowl separatism occurred, in part, because the Democratic Party found electoral resonance in big government’s generous entitlements and social programs tailored to particular groups. By then, immigration into the United States had radically shifted and become less diverse. Rather than including states in Europe and the former British Commonwealth, most immigrants were poorer and almost exclusively hailed from the nations of Latin America, Asia, and Africa, resulting in poorer immigrants who, upon arrival, needed more government help. Another reason for the shift was the general protest culture of the Vietnam era, which led to radical changes in everything from environmental policy to sexual identity, and thus saw identity politics as another grievance against the status quo.

...What is the future of diversity politics after the 2016 election? Uncertain at best--and for a variety of reasons.

...Identity politics hinges on perceptible racial or ethnic solidarity, but citizens are increasingly a mixture of various races and do not always categorize themselves as "non-white."

...Second, the notion of even an identifiable and politically monolithic group of non-white minorities is also increasingly suspect. Cubans do not have enough in common with Mexicans to advance a united Latino front. African-Americans are suspicious of open borders that undercut entry-level job wages. Asians resent university quotas that often discount superb grades and test scores to ensure racial diversity. It is not clear that Hmong-Americans have much in common with Japanese-Americans, or that Punjabi immigrants see themselves politically akin to Chinese newcomers as fellow Asians.

Third, ethnic solidarity can cut both ways. In the 2016 elections, Trump won an overwhelming and nearly unprecedented number of working class whites in critical swing states. Many either had not voted in prior elections or had voted Democratic. The culture’s obsession with tribalism and special ethnic interests--often couched in terms of opposing "white privilege"--had alienated millions of less well-off white voters. Quietly, many thought that if ethnic activists were right that the white majority was shrinking into irrelevance, and if it was acceptable for everyone to seek solidarity through their tribal affiliations, then poor whites could also rally under the banner of their own identity politics.

...Fourth, it is not certain that immigration, both legal and illegal, will continue at its current near record rate, which has resulted in over 40 million immigrants now residing in America--constituting some 13 percent of the present population. Trump is likely not just to curtail illegal immigration, but also to return legal immigration to a more meritocratic, diverse, and individual basis. Were immigration to slow down and become more diverse, the formidable powers of integration and intermarriage would perhaps do to the La Raza community what it once did to the Italian-American minority after the cessation of mass immigration from Italy. There are currently no Italian-American quotas, no Italian university departments, and no predictable voting blocs.

Fifth, class is finally reemerging as a better barometer of privilege than is race--a point that Republican populists are starting to hammer home. The children of Barack Obama, for example, have far more privilege than do the sons of Appalachian coal miners--and many Asian groups already exceed American per capita income averages. When activist Michael Eric Dyson calls for blanket reparations for slavery, his argument does not resonate with an unemployed working-class youth from Kentucky, who was born more than 30 years after the emergence of affirmative action--and enjoys a fraction of Dyson’s own income, net worth, and cultural opportunities.

Finally, ideology is eroding the diversity industry. Conservative minorities and women are not considered genuine voices of the Other, given their incorrect politics. For all its emphasis on appearance, diversity is really an intolerant ideological movement that subordinates race and gender to progressive politics. It is not biology that gives authenticity to feminism, but leftwing assertions; African-American conservatives are often derided as inauthentic, not because of purported mixed racial pedigrees, but due to their unorthodox beliefs.

The 2016 election marked an earthquake in the diversity industry. It is increasingly difficult to judge who we are merely by our appearances, which means that identity politics may lose its influence. These fissures probably explain some of the ferocity of the protests we’ve seen in recent weeks. A dying lobby is fighting to hold on to its power.

The Press is the Enemy
h/t Instapundit
Love or hate Donald Trump, one of the reasons he managed to win the election was that he spoke a truth we’ve all known for quite some time now, but which few others were willing to say openly: the press is the enemy of the American people. It’s a sad state of affairs, and indicative of the descent into technocratic government.

Some time ago, one of my readers linked a post of mine on Free Republic. He suggested my blog was worth following, for which I can only express my gratitude. But another individual immediately lambasted the original poster with "oh, you follow blogs? I feel sorry for you." It was the sort of self-absorbed, arrogant snark you usually see in places like the Democratic Underground. When it was pointed out to him that the press is blatantly corrupt, and cannot be trusted, he fired back with an insinuation that at least the press is better than amateur bloggers.

To be fair, I am not a trained journalist, nor am I even a trained author. My readers have probably noticed errors here and there, and in all likelihood I will continue to make those boneheaded mistakes from time-to-time (I count on my readers to let me know when this happens, of course). But regardless of my own errors, at least it can be said that I am not an enemy of America, her culture, and her way of life.

The intrepid anti-blog freeper missed that point. No matter how much training the technocrats in government and media receive, we cannot trust them. They are no longer reporters of facts, they are agents of propaganda as dishonest and skewed as the editors of Pravda.
And most of them can't write either

#2  I've had my issues with Donald Trump, and no doubt I will continue to have them. But on this matter he is 100% correct...

Not exactly. In the very first paragraph the author misquoted President Trump's original tweet by transposing the words "press" and "media". Minor perhaps but an indication of another one of DT's intentionally proactive statements dismissed with the predictable 'Oh you know what he meant' arguments. Yes much of the Media dislikes Trump the man, his policies, his supporters, and what he represents. And many of them do indeed dishonestly misconstrue the facts for their own political and financial gain. Has this diminished the integrity of journalism? Yes. Is it a disservice to the "American people"? Absolutely. But "enemy" - not even close that 100% figure.

When guys like Bill Kristol tweet that they would prefer the Deep State to Donald Trump they are declaring war on America. Kristol admitted he would prefer a coup d'etat perpetrated by unnamed, unknown forces to a duly elected POTUS. If you don't consider him to be an enemy of the American people then I don't understand your definition of the word enemy.

#6  Abu, your example of that prick Bill Kistol maybe valid. A bit melodramatic with the "declaration of war" stuff but non the less valid. But he is an individual. Let me cut to the chase. Vague demonization of a collective is a pillar of propaganda. And the bloggers assertion that President Trump's tweet is "100% correct" is demonstrably false.

#8  I don't have a problem demonising the media either.

The problem isn't so much it's agenda peddling, its that they are all peddling the same Left groupthink agenda. At least until the internet came along and the cost of entry for new media dropped dramatically.

What genuinely surprised me is recent surveys showing how little people trust the media.

#11  We had a joke when I was in the army around '92 that I heard.

If you see a guy with an RPG pointed at you, and you see a guy with a video camera, who do you shoot at first?
The media guy. They do more damage.

The media has not been an enemy to the American people, it has been an enemy to American ideals and values. The entire reason it exists is to convince the American public to march down their path and abandon everything that made this country exceptional.

Fortunately we have alternate news now and the MSM is realizing their hold on the public has been broken, most likely forever. They will get more and more unhinged and print more and more stuff to get the ones that follow them to rise up and create havoc, as they know they will disappear if they don't.

Several journalists were arrested during an anti-trump riot recently where rioters were smashing store front windows, you know, retail places where we get our paychecks.

In one major city, the major newspaper journalists called on Muslims to arm up against protesters of Islamic terrorism.

In the same city, the same news paper journalists wrote numerous articles smearing Christian churches throughout the city.

The Press is the Enemy.

Now if you want to keep kissing their asses, post pictures here.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Few Rogue Border Agents Resist Trump Policies
[PoliZette] Union leader says some stations continue to follow Obama 'catch and release' directives.

Some border patrol stations have been slow to carry out President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement executive order and instead have continued former President Barack Obama’s "catch-and-release" policies, according to a union official.

Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, told LifeZette that he raised concerns Thursday with U.S. Border Patrol Chief Ronald Vitiello. He said he is confident that issue soon will be corrected.

But Judd said as recently as Thursday, some border patrol stations were still releasing border-jumpers, often without even issuing notices to appear in immigration court hearings. Obama’s policy was to release anyone claiming to have been living continuously in the United States since before Jan. 1, 2014, if they did not have criminal records or active warrants.

"We’re still walking people out the door," Judd said. "The catch-and-release policy is still in place in some sectors."

Judd said it was a minority of sectors that have been resisting Trump’s new directives. He laid the blame at the feet of U.S. Border Patrol managers, not front-line officers.

The Deep State Saga Continues ‐ the Battle Between Donald Trump and John McCain
[Breitbart] The feud between President Donald Trump and Senator John McCain is heating up. The protagonists on both sides of this fight are intense and determined, and yet if we dig beneath the personalities, we can see an even deeper conflict--an ultimate conflict of visions. And that clash of worldviews, in turn, is full of implications for the behavior of the Deep State in the months and years to come.

In the meantime, the headlines are startling: The Washington Post headlined its story on Saturday the 17th, "John McCain just systematically dismantled Donald Trump’s entire worldview."

And there’s this from The Chicago Tribune: "McCain criticizes Trump for calling media ’the enemy’: ’That’s how dictators get started.’"

And Axios, a buzzy new Beltway publication founded by the original brains behind Politico, runs this headline, "McCain gets revenge on Trump." (Interestingly, by coincidence, or perhaps not, the next headline in the Axios news feed was, "The 10 biggest leaks of the Trump presidency.")

yes this was undated, could have been from any time. Reason it is posted is because right now Iraqi army (and US and Russia) is defeating ISIS

so right now the issue we will have is these mass murderers and trained killers either surrendering or fleeing and pretending to be refugees

so what are we going to do with them?

also we have the mass graves and body dumping sites to contend with, and the question that the people left behind may either be collaborators, sympathisers, Islamic State pretending not to be Islamic State, or else so damaged and traumatised they can't function

#2  The adults who turned these children into ruthless killers are completely disgusting psychopaths. These people are not to be forgiven and they need to be kept out of Western countries to the extent possible. We've got our own psychos; we call them mass murderers and serial killers. We don't need more. There is to be no compassion for such people.
Posted by: JohnQC || 02/20/2017 14:23 Comments || Top||

#3  yes John exactly we have to keep the adults out

i think we should separate the children under 10 and give them to non-Muslim families to be raised as non-Muslims so they have no reminders such as the sound of 'allahu akhbar' or the call to prayer, to remind them of this

the question is, how to identify? they will be posing as refugees

also second problem -- these adults will also pose as refugees with the kids as props

and third problem -- Turkey is not our ally, they helped Islamic State

these people may find an escape route through Turkey and there get new ID and help before coming to Europe, then in Europe they get on a plane to the US, Britain, Canada and Australia

Palestinian arrested for selling fake Israeli entry permits
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man was enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
overnight for producing and selling to fellow Paleostinians counterfeit entry permits to Israel, the Israel Police said Sunday.

The man, a 31-year-old resident of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, is said by police to have made NIS 2,000 ($540) a month from selling the doctored permits.

An investigation into the source of the counterfeit documents began two months ago, after a number of Paleostinians were arrested while trying to use fake permits to enter Israel through army checkpoints in the Jerusalem area, Army Radio reported.

The suspect is also said to have briefed his customers on how to avoid arousing the suspicion of security forces while passing through checkpoints.

The man is expected to be indicted later Sunday, according to Army Radio.

Approximately 50,000-60,000 Paleostinians are believed to enter Israel illegally each day in order to work, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot told Knesset politicians in August, a practice that has drawn widespread scrutiny following a shooting attack at the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv last June, which was carried out by Paleostinian cousins Muhammad and Khalid Muhamra of the southern West Bank town of Yatta after they sneaked into the country.

Hamas condemns 6 ‘informants for Israel’ to death by hanging
[IsraelTimes] Verdict raises number of people on death row to 10; others given jail term for alleged spying.

Six Gazooks were condemned to be hanged over charges they informed for Israel, two Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run military courts ruled Sunday.

Three men were sentenced to hang by the permanent military court and death sentences for another three were upheld by the supreme military court, according to a statement on the Hamas-run Gazoo Paleostinian interior ministry website.

Sunday’s verdicts raise the number of people on death row to 10.

Seven other people were given prison sentences Sunday ranging from 12 to 17 years long for spying for Israel.

The supreme military court also granted an appeal to a 24-year-old who was sentenced to hang for spying, and instead sentenced him to an unspecified term of hard labor in prison.

Under Paleostinian law, death sentences can be handed out for those collaborating with Israel, murderers and narcos.

But there are stark differences between the Gazoo Strip and the West Bank, the territory controlled by the Paleostinian Authority, which is dominated by President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

’s Fatah party.

No execution has been carried out in the West Bank since 2002, and only two were carried out there between 1994 and 2002.

Since Hamas took power in the Gazoo Strip in 2007, 96 death penalties have been handed out, mostly by military courts and often for spying on behalf of Israel, said Hamdi Shaqura of the Paleostinian Center for Human Rights. Some, but not all, the death sentences have been carried out.

At least 21 death sentences were handed out in Gazoo in 2016 alone.

Islamic State in the Sinai claims five members killed in Israeli drone strike
[IsraelTimes] Terror group says cell targeted Saturday in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula; no immediate comment from IDF.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’s official media outlet claimed Sunday five of its members were killed in an Israeli military Arclight airstrike in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula the day before.

According to Amaq news agency, an official media arm of the terror group, an Israeli dronezap struck a car with five Islamic State members in a village in the northern Sinai near the Egypt-Israel border on Saturday.

The strike occurred near the village of Shabana, south of the town of Rafah, Amaq said.

The Israel Defense Forces did not immediately respond to The Times of Israel’s request for comment, but generally refrains from confirming or denying strikes outside of Israel.

The reported attack came after tensions between Israel and the Islamic State’s affiliate in Sinai ratcheted up earlier this month.

On February 8, the group, known as the Sinai Province, shot four rockets at the southern Israeli city of Eilat. Three of the four rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile system, the army said. A military spokesperson said the fourth rocket was not shot down by the missile defense battery as it was headed toward an open field.

Sinai Province claimed the rocket attack on Eilat early the next day.

February 9 also saw two Paleostinians killed in a mysterious kaboom in Rafah, which the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group claimed was the result of an Israeli Arclight airstrike carried out in retaliation for the rockets.

Israel denied it had carried out any Arclight airstrikes in the area.

Last month, Israel ordered all of its citizens in the Sinai Peninsula to leave immediately due to security threats.

2 Palestinian teens accused in West Bank shootings
[IsraelTimes] Two Paleostinian teens suspected of carrying out shooting attacks at passing cars in the central West Bank were incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
last month, the Shin Bet security service said Sunday.

The two suspects, both 17 and from the Paleostinian village of Deir Abu Mash’al west of Ramallah, were arrested hours after allegedly shooting at Israeli cars on January 27, according to the security agency.

The arrests were carried out together with the Israel Defense Forces and police and were gagged until the Sunday announcement.

The Shin Bet did not say when the two were expected to be officially charged. A spokesperson said the results of the investigations had been handed over to the military prosecution.

The pair were accused of shooting at cars near the West Bank settlement of Halamish, outside Ramallah, on November 14, and January 27, as well as unspecified "additional attacks."

There were no injuries in any of those attacks.

The Shin Bet said that during the investigation, security forces uncovered two makeshift "Carlo" submachine guns that agents then matched to casings taken from the scenes of the shooting.

"This investigation reveals, once again, the involvement of minors in severe terror activity, as well as the tangible security threat posed by terrorists’ access to makeshift weapons that can cause massive damage," the statement said.

Impeached Brazil Leader Rousseff Eyes Political Return
[An Nahar] Six months after her humiliating departure from Brazil's presidency following an impeachment trial, Dilma Rousseff is contemplating her political future.

During an exclusive interview with AFP, she appeared more relaxed than she was during August's emotional impeachment spectacle.

That event was not the end of her political battle, she said. On her Twitter account, she still calls herself "Brazilian President-elect."

"I will not run for president again," the 69-year-old leftist leader said in the capital Brasilia.

"But I will never give up politics. I do not rule out the possibility of running for the office of senator or deputy."

PKK militant killed after ordering deadly attack on lodgings in Turkey’s southeast
A senior figure from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) who was killed during an operation in southeastern province of Mardin on Feb. 17 had previously ordered a car bomb attack that killed two people at lodgings housing judicial personnel in Şanlıurfa later in the day, authorities have alleged.

The PKK militant, Yaşar Uygur, codenamed “Behzat,” was killed at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, while the car bomb attack occurred in the Viranşehir district of Şanlıurfa around two hours later.

Uygur, who was allegedly the group’s commander in Mardin, was one of two who ordered the deadly attack in Şanlıurfa, according to daily Habertürk. The other, İshak Özçaktu (“Porsipi”) is reportedly hiding from security forces in a rural area of Diyarbakır’s Lice district.

Meanwhile, police also stated that they found Katyusha missiles in the shelter where Uygur was killed. Authorities alleged that the missiles were set to be used in attacks on locations that were scouted by PKK militants in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Kocaeli.

Uygur and Özçaktu were also reportedly behind attacks that have killed at least 150 people across Turkey.

Two people, including an 11-year-old child, were killed and 15 others were wounded in the car bomb attack on the lodgings for judiciary personnel in Viranşehir. One of the guards of the neighborhood, İbrahim Kete, was also killed in the attack. He was found dead under the rubble after the explosion.

Şanlıurfa Gov. Güngör Azim Tuna said one ton of explosives was planted in a car that was parked outside the lodgings before being detonated with remote control. The governor said the PKK was responsible for the attack. Police have detained 26 people in connection with the assault.

Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Faruk Çelik and Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ went to the district to inspect the site of the attack and visit the wounded.

“The vehicle was detonated just as a security guard who saw it being parked was about to intervene with a gun,” Soylu told reporters in Viranşehir on Feb. 18, adding that the blast caused damage to 14 buildings nearby. Eleven people were still being treated in hospital, Soylu said, including two in intensive care.

Southern Gas Corridor to be completed by 2020: Azerbaijan
This matters some: while not WoT related, completing the pipeline will bring Caucasus natural gas to Europe by a route that avoids Russia. The amount of NG is substantial, enough to help break the Russian grip on Europe.
Azerbaijan aims to finalize the Southern Gas Corridor by 2020, Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev has said. The Southern Gas Corridor includes the South Caucasus Pipeline, Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Speaking at “On the Road to Price Stability? The return of OPEC and the Geopolitics of Oil” roundtable as part of the Munich Security Conference, Aliyev said Azerbaijan played an important role in the energy security of the region. He said the country would also play an important role in Europe’s energy security with natural gas megaprojects.

Highlighting that Azerbaijan boasted seven energy lines – of which three carried oil and four natural gas – Aliyev said the lines connected Azerbaijan with the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea, contributing to the energy security of transit countries.

The Southern Gas Corridor includes three major pipeline projects: the expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline through Azerbaijan and Georgia, the construction of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) across Turkey and the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) through Greece, Albania and into Italy.

“Eighty percent of the works on the South Caucasus Pipeline, 35 percent on the TAP, and 90 percent on the Shah Deniz field are complete. Our aim is to supply this natural gas to markets next year and complete the project by 2020 in the event that no artificial hold-ups take place in some of the partner countries,” said Aliyev.

The TANAP project aims to bring natural gas, produced from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz II gas field and other areas of the Caspian Sea, primarily to Turkey, but also to Europe via the TAP.

The Next Nuclear Incident?
President Tump's next National Security Adviser will have to hit the ground running. Along with the litany of issues already on the plate, the new NSA may also inherit a nuclear incident involving Russia.

And we're not referring to Vladimir Putin's on-going efforts to expand his nation's nuclear arsenal, including the recent cruise missile deployment that violated the INF treaty. According to various media outlets, Moscow deployed the SSC-8 missile system last December, during the waning days of the Obama Administration. While President Obama and his advisers were aware of the deployment, they did not respond, pushing that responsibility off on Mr. Trump and his fledgling national security team.

While the SSC-8 has the range to threaten European capitals and NATO bases from launch positions in Russia, it may not represent the most immediate nuclear issue. Over the past month, there have been indications that Moscow may conducted some sort of small-scale nuclear test, probably in the Arctic Region, or suffered a reactor mishap in the same area. A French nuclear safety institute recently released a summary of radioactive material detected across the continent.

Turkey to clear ISIL from Raqqa pending agreement with US, coalition
Turkey will clear the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) from Raqqa if an agreement is reached with the United States and the U.S.-led coalition fighting the jihadist group, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said.

“We will also clear Raqqa of the herd of killers called Deash if we come to terms with the U.S. and the coalition,” said Erdoğan at a rally in the southeastern province of Gaziantep on Feb. 19, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL.

He said the Turkish army and Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) rebels were conducting successful battles in the northern Syrian city of al-Bab and that Raqqa was the next target.

Turkey and FSA rebels have been trying to capture al-Bab from ISIL since December last year as part of its ongoing Euphrates Shield operation, which was launched on Aug. 24, 2016, in order to clear the border with Syria of terrorist organizations. Since the beginning of the operation, Turkish troops have experienced the highest number of fatalities in al-Bab.

Erdoğan’s remarks came one day after Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said Feb. 18 that Turkey would be part of an operation to liberate Raqqa, though not directly, if a deal with U.S.-led coalition forces could be reached.

“We will not be directly part of an operation [on Raqqa]; we will provide tactical support, of course if we agree in principle,” state-run Anadolu Agency quoted Yıldırım as saying on Feb. 18 in Germany, where he went to attend the Munich Security Conference.

“The opportunities and capabilities are being reviewed,” he said.

Yıldırım said “local forces, civil insurgents, Free Syrian Army and other militia” would go be in the forefront as one group while “we will be in the back,” adding that the U.S. and Turkey would have a military presence in the Raqqa operation.

Yıldırım raised the issue of the fight against ISIL in a meeting with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence later in the day and said Turkey and the U.S. must take a joint stance in the effort, a statement issued by the Turkish prime minister’s office said on Feb. 18.

Fneish Says Resistance Complements Army's Anti-Israel Role
[An Nahar] Sport and Youth Minister Mohammed Fneish of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
stressed Sunday that Hizbullah's military role in the face of Israel complements that of the Lebanese army.

"The Resistance enjoys the awareness and preparedness to pursue the Israeli enemy wherever its threat is present, in harmony with the army's role. This stance might not please some parties, but we insist on it," Fneish said during a Hizbullah ceremony in south Leb.

"The equation has become a reality and no one can dampen its characteristics, strength and results, especially that it has offered the Lebanese a feeling of serenity, recaptured the land, deterred the Israeli enemy, and made its leaders fear the growing strength of the Resistance," the minister added.
That'd be the Hezbullies, natch...
He underlined that "no one can think of weakening the Resistance's capabilities, unless they are stupid, conspiring or ignorant of their country's interest."

"The Paleostine experience is the best testament about those who counted on the U.S., Europe and the international organizations," Fneish pointed out. "Do you want us to renounce the strength of the resistance that is in our hands in order to endorse a futile approach that relinquishes objectives and rights?"

President Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
had recently stressed that Hizbullah's weapons "do not contradict with the State," drawing criticism from some of the party's opponents.

opposition leader whose supporters erupted into the streets of the capital Saturday to demand his release.

Hundreds of opposition supporters marched in Venezuela's capital city, blocking one of the main highways in Caracas to protest Leopoldo Lopez's imprisonment. Lopez, in a letter he wrote in his cell read out to supporters, urged an electoral "rebellion" to press for general elections in the country mired in economic and political crisis.

Referring to gubernatorial elections set for last December that were delayed and not yet rescheduled, Lopez called instead for a referendum on whether the presidential election set for 2018 should be held in 2017 instead.

Supporters called for Venezuelans to press for change.

"His only crime was to demonstrate non-violently. And now, more than 80 percent of Venezuelans want (President Nicolas) Maduro to leave power," said David Smolansky, mayor of metro Caracas' El Hatillo district.

Smolansky said the elected socialist Maduro's government amounted to a dictatorship that makes "Venezuelans go hungry while it protects criminals," he stressed, adding:

"We urge the international community: no more dictatorship. We want to live in a free country where decency can overcome violence."

Air strikes target terrorist hideout in North Waziristan, says ISPR
[DAWN] The Pakistain Air Force (PAF) on Sunday carried out air strikes in the border area of North Wazoo Agency on terrorist positions, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The statement said the turbans tried to regroup in the Wucha Bibi area of the tribal agency and were targeted by the PAF.

A terrorist hideout was destroyed, killing the turbans occupying it, added the military's media wing.

The Arclight airstrikes comes following a week of terror attacks across the country, with the last one killing at least 88 people when a jacket wallah blew himself at the shrine of Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The ISPR late last week claimed to have killed more than 100 suspected turbans in intelligence-based operations carried out by security forces across the country, including Punjab.

Sehwan attacker bypassed security check in CCTV footage: police
[DAWN] Sindh police on Sunday released a video allegedly showing the Sehwan attacker bypassing a security check at the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine last week.

The suicide kaboom targeting the shrine on Thursday killed at least 88 people and injured hundreds others. It is one among a deadly series of attacks carried out by Death Eaters in recent weeks.

Inspector General Police Sindh A.D. Khawaja while addressing a presser said the man shown in the CCTV footage is "99 per cent" the jacket wallah. He described the man as an Afghan national, saying that the 'attacker' saw the police officer at the gate and decided to go the other way.

The attacker is suspected of involvement in the Shikarpur and Jacobabad blasts, the IGP said, adding that the involvement of a man named Hafeez Brohi in the Sehwan attack could not be ruled out, as he had a terrorist network in Sindh.

The Sindh government will have the case investigated through Sindh police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), as was done in suicide kabooms in Jacobabad during Ashura and at Shikarpur’s shrine, and then again last year in Shikarpur on the second day of Eidul Azha.

Sehwan police had lodged a case on Friday against one suicide bomber and three controllers involved in the Feb 16 suicide kaboom at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. The accused remained unidentified.

Trump Should Help 'Kick Russia's Ass', Says Lindsey Graham
[An Nahar] U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
should come clean and back moves to "kick Russia's ass" for its alleged meddling in last year's U.S. election, senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO...
said on Sunday.

Trump has been embroiled in questions over his ties with Russia and this week his national security adviser Michael Flynn was forced to resign over contacts with Moscow's ambassador in Washington.

The president has repeatedly said he wants to improve relations with Russia but Graham said Trump should be much more focused on hitting back at Russia over its alleged hacking of the Democratic Party's network to discredit candidate Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
in his favor.

"My goal is to put it on Trump's desk and I hope he'll embrace the idea that as the leader of the free world he should be working with us to punish Russia," Lindsey told a Munich Security Conference panel.

"2017 is going to be a year of kicking Russia in the ass in Congress," he said.

Graham said the president needed to be completely open. "My biggest concern with President Trump ... is that he's never really looked the camera in the eye."

The president should do that and say: "'Even though it was the Democratic Party that suffered from Russian interference, I am now the leader of the free world and I can assure you they're going to pay a price on my watch for trying to interfere in our election,'" Graham said.

#1  Why would we not join with russia to wipe these Islamotards from the face of the earth

here is Islamic State, funded by Saudi, Qatar and UAE.

Sunni Islamists invading syria. Supported by Hillary and Obama, John Brennan

here they train their kids and film them cutting the heads off adult prisoners, shooting them

a three-year-old given a loaded gun to shoot a prisoner then shouting allahu akhbar. he is three.

watch it. watch the horrible gruesome video and then ask the question - what are we going to do about this?

they will come returning to our countries as refugees when ISIS are beaten

what are we going to do about it? they will be muslim refugees.

#2  IMO, anon1, it's not so much Islam --- I expect the "Power of Islam" to disappear once anti-fracking regulations are removed --- as the fact that Trump sees Russia as a natural ally against the growing power and belligerence of China.

As to John and Lindsey (who is a man - male anyway), I'm not sure what motivates them. Possibly they believe that Trump voters can be incited by anti-Russian rhetorics (after all it was true in their youth when Russia was Soviet Union). Or, they receive funds from China (look up who funded Demosthenes' Philippics)

#4  I watched one of my Cold War favorites last evening. Tom Hanks in Bridge of Spies (Francis Gary Powers incident). In discussions on it, an old friend and Russian military expert remarked:

"I actually miss the Cold War compared to today’s Islamic threat. We face an unholy enemy alliance now – the Islamic right and the Western left. They work together because they have the same enemies: Western civilization, Christianity, and the United States of America. Notice all the tears the left sheds over the plight of Muslims here and how they want to increase Muslim immigration."

If you've never watched Bridge of Spies, don't expect validation of intelligence community ethics or handiwork. They had no luck in 'turning' Rudolf Abel (Рудольф Иванович Абель), brilliantly played by Sir David Mark Rylance Waters. Little wonder so many remain skeptical of the Bergdahl exchange, or the long-running events at GITMO.

Occasionally, Hollywood gets it right.

Leaving you with a memorable movie quote:

James Donovan: You have been charged with three counts and nineteen overt acts. Conspiracy to transmit United States defence and atomic secrets to the Soviet Union, conspiracy to gather secrets, and failing to register as a foreign agent.
Rudolf Abel: Do many foreign agents register?

#8  U.S. President Donald Trump should come clean and back moves to "kick Russia's ass" for its alleged meddling in last year's U.S. election, senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.

Lindsey the Bellicose seems eager to go to war. In that way, he and McCain are much like Hillary. Graham and McCain come across as bitter losers who got their feathers ruffled and feelings hurt. Trump's voters did not sign on for a war with Russia. We have been in about 20 years of war with the Islamicists and it has cost us a lot in money and lives. Trump wants to finish off ISIS and get on with building the economy and strengthening the country. He seems to have a lot of push back to this endeavor.

There has not been any proof provided that Russia meddled with our election or that people on Trump's team were busy meeting clandestinely with Russian officials in violation of the law--so far it has been all accusations and no proof. Show us the proof or STFU.

Europe
France's Melenchon says he would hike spending by 273 billion euros
French hard-left presidential candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon would raise spending by 273 billion euros ($290 billion), his team said in a presentation online on Sunday, Reuters reported. That sum includes a 100 billion-euro recovery plan to stimulate the French economy.

The new spending would essentially be financed through higher taxes, debt, lower tax evasion and higher economic growth, according to Melenchon's political movement, dubbed "Indomitable France" and backed by the country's Communist party.
Not sure how the higher taxes and debt will stimulate higher economic growth. And in France, as in most of Europe, evading the tax collector is a sport rivaled only by metric football...
The proposed measures, which include a 15 percent increase in France's minimum wage, new funds to fight poverty and create new jobs, underscore the gap Melenchon would have to bridge with Socialist rival Benoit Hamon in order to find a common platform for the April and May presidential election.
Raise the minimum wage -- of course that'll create new jobs. Says so in the progressive playbook...
The two hard-left candidates said on Friday they were discussing cooperation in their bid for the presidency, jolting investors already nervous over the possibility of a win for far-right, anti-globalization candidate Marine Le Pen.

Melenchon's plan would cut France's unemployment rate to 6 percent by 2022 from about 10 percent today, with an economic growth forecast of about 2 percent as soon as 2018, his team said.
My forecast is that his plan will lead to an unemployment rate of 12 percent and growth of -0.5 percent. Let's see who's right in 2022...
The total weight of taxes would increase by four points to the equivalent of about 49 percent of France's gross domestic product, while the country's yearly budget deficit would fall to 2.5 percent by 2022, they said.

New Homeland Security guidelines aggressively crack down on illegal immigration
[Christian Science Monitor] FEBRUARY 19, 2017 --Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly signed new guidelines on Saturday giving federal authorities the power to more aggressively crack down on illegal immigration, marking what experts call a major shift in US immigration policies.

Under the new guidelines, outlined in a pair of memos, the agency plans to hire thousands of additional enforcement agents, expand the pool of immigrants who are prioritized for removal, enlist local law enforcement to help make arrests, and speed up deportation hearings ‐ directives that would replace nearly all guidelines put in place by previous administrations.

"The surge of immigration at the southern border has overwhelmed federal agencies and resources and has created a significant national security vulnerability to the United States," Secretary Kelly wrote, citing a surge of 10,000 to 15,000 additional apprehensions per month at the US-Mexico border between 2015 and 2016.

Since taking office in January, President Trump has come under fire for what immigrant rights advocates have denounced as unprecedented action against undocumented people in the United States. In a series of executive orders last month, the president expanded the power of immigration officers and announced plans to fulfill his campaign promises by building a wall along the southern US border.

Raids in early February, in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE) rounded up more than 680 people in nearly a dozen states, spurred widespread fear across immigrant communities.

Yes, it's a "major shift", but it constitutes no more than a restoration of our traditional policies toward illegal immigrants, and away from the Obama administration policy of letting in uncontrolled swarms of "undocumented Democrats" to skew our elections leftward.

Christie tells his staff he is taking White House job
[NYPOST] New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is telling friends and staff he is taking a role with the Trump administration, according to a source close to the White House. The GOP governor’s position has not been worked out, but he would not replace Reince Preibus as the president’s chief-of-staff, the source said.

"Trump told him to be patient," the source said. "Christie will only take something where he is answerable to the president."

Trump told The Wall Street Journal last month "at some point, we’re going to do something with Chris." But the White House said it has not offered Christie a position.
He's going to need one soon. The governor gig in Joisey is wearing out...
Christie front man Brian Murray said it was "absolutely untrue" he told staff he would take a role.

"The governor dismissed this type of speculation this past week and said he plans to finish out his term as governor," he said.
So there you have it, whatever it is.

Obama-linked activists have a ‘training manual’ for protesting Trump
[NYPOST] An Obama-tied activist group training tens of thousands of agitators to protest President Trump’s policies plans to hit Republican politicians supporting those policies even harder this week, when they return home for the congressional recess and hold town hall meetings and other functions.

Organizing for Action, a group founded by Obama and featured prominently on his new post-presidency website, is distributing a training manual to anti-Trump activists that advises them to bully GOP politicians into backing off support for repealing ObamaCare, curbing immigration from high-risk Islamic nations, and building a border wall.

In a new Facebook post, OFA calls on activists to mobilize against Republicans from now until Feb. 26, when "representatives are going to be in their home districts."

The protesters disrupted town halls earlier this month, including one held in Utah by House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz, who was confronted by hundreds of angry demonstrators claiming to be his constituents.

The manual, published with OFA partner "Indivisible," advises protesters to go into halls quietly so as not to raise alarms, and "grab seats at the front of the room but do not all sit together." Rather, spread out in pairs to make it seem like the whole room opposes the Republican host’s positions. "This will help reinforce the impression of broad consensus." It also urges them to ask "hostile" questions -- while keeping "a firm hold on the mic" -- and loudly boo the the GOP politician if he isn’t "giving you real answers."

"Express your concern [to the event’s hosts] they are giving a platform to pro-Trump authoritarianism, racism, and corruption," it says.

The goal is to make Republicans, even from safe districts, second-guess their support for the Trump agenda, and to prime "the ground for the 2018 midterms when Democrats retake power."

The case has also sparked a diplomatic row between Pyongyang and Kuala Lumpur, after Malaysia rejected demands quickly to hand the body over to the North.

"The raids on caves in Halal Mountain resulted in the destruction of 33 workshops for manufacturing Improvised Explosives Devices," an army front man said on Facebook.

"The raids also resulted in the confiscation of 66 cycle of violences and two off-road vehicles."

On Sunday, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail issued a decree banning cycle of violences in central and North Sinai for one year.

Two days ago, three army soldiers were killed and four others injured in an kaboom in the Halal Mountain area.

In late January, Egypt’s army said it killed six gunnies and arrested another in central Sinai.

Shoot-on-sight orders over illegal entry from Afghanistan
[DAWN] QUETTA: As Pakistain’s border with Afghanistan at Chaman remains closed on the second consecutive day on Saturday, authorities issued shoot-at-sight orders for those found trying to cross over.

The Friendship Gate was closed on Friday as part of tightening security in the wake of the suicide kaboom on the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan town of Sindh in which nearly 90 people bit the dust and over 340 others suffered injuries.

As a result, traffic and transit trade between Pakistain and Afghanistan also remained suspended.

Gotta remember, this order requires 1:1 preventative engagements of 'shooter-bullet-crosser'. That requires staging as many shooters as potential simultaneous border transgressors. Much better to channel the incoming traffic with walls and fences.

on Sunday decided to seek support from the Rangers to combat terrorism in Punjab days after a suicide kaboom in Lahore killed at least 15 people and maimed 85 others.

The details regarding the nature and extent of support to be provided by the Rangers will be finalised later, according to a statement released by the Punjab government.

The suicide attack on Lahore's Mall Road claimed by the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar hit a protest of chemists and pharmaceuticals manufacturers which was attended by up to 400 people last Monday. At least six police officials were killed in the blast.

Following the attack, Punjab’s law enforcement agencies had launched a province-wide crackdown on banned murderous Moslem organizations.

Meeting participants today decided that indiscriminate action must be taken against banned outfits, and that all small and large agents with links to banned outfits must be incarcerated
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!

s must be shut down.

The apex committee agreed to widen the scope of intelligence-based operations in the province and resolved to punish controllers of terrorists, the statement said, adding that there will be strict surveillance of Punjab's border districts.

Steps taken under the National Action Plan to counter terrorism, militancy, extremism and sectarianism are to be reviewed, the statement today said.

Foolproof security arrangements have been ordered for the China-Pakistain Economic Corridor and international visitors.

Economy
Oil prices down last week
Oil prices ended steady on Friday but lower on the week, with U.S. crude notching its first weekly decline in five weeks, as the market weighed rising U.S. drilling and record stockpiles against efforts by major producers to cut output to reduce a global glut, Reuters reported.

U.S. energy companies added oil rigs for a fifth straight week, Baker Hughes said, extending a nine-month recovery with producers encouraged by buoyant crude prices, which have held mostly over $50 a barrel since late November.
As soon as prices go up, frackers open up...
Globally, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and other producers, including Russia, agreed to cut output almost 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) during the first half of 2017.

Estimates suggest compliance by OPEC is around 90 percent, and Reuters reported on Thursday that OPEC could extend the pact or apply deeper cuts from July if global crude inventories fail to drop enough.

"It's encouraging that it may not be a six-month deal but one of the issues is if you look at OPEC and other members basically reducing their supply and U.S. shale producers profiting from it, that's going to produce some turmoil," said Mark Watkins, regional investment manager at U.S. Bank Private Client Group.
Bwha-ha-ha...
"At some point, it's going to be difficult for that agreement to stay in place when member countries can drill more and make more money."

Brent futures settled 16 cents, or 0.3 percent, firmer at $55.81 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude settled up 4 cents at $53.40 a barrel.

Book squaring in March WTI ahead of its expiration on Tuesday weighed on prices, traders said. The U.S. market will be closed on Monday for the Presidents Day holiday.

WTI ended the week down 1 percent and Brent fell 2 percent for the week. Oil prices were within an average band of about $1.30 per barrel so far this year, one of the most range-bound periods since the price slump began in mid-2014.

U.S. gasoline futures ended nearly 1 percent lower, with the gasoline crack spread , a key indicator of refining margins, slumping more than 11 percent early in the day to one-year lows.

Rising U.S. output helped boost crude and gasoline inventories to record highs last week, amid faltering demand growth for the motor fuel.

The oil market was also pressured by a second week of gains in the dollar index, which rose on Friday, making greenback-denominated oil more expensive for holders of other currencies.

Hedge funds and other money managers raised their net long U.S. crude futures and options positions in the week to February 14 to a new record high, data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) showed on Friday. The increase in long positions leaves the market vulnerable to a downward correction, analysts have said.

PMUs begin west Mosul invasion, bring down IS defenses
[Iraq News] al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) began Sunday an invasion of western djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
areas coincidentally with Iraqi government forces which launched a new stage of offensives against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. snuffies in that region.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the PMUs 26th Brigade embarked on an offensive targeting western Mosul areas starting from Irbeed region, bringing down IS defenses there. al-Hashd’s media service, meanwhile, said the forces advanced towards the liberation of Tal Kaisoum, an area on the road between central Mosul and the strategic town of Tal Afar.

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, an alliance of volunteer Shia militias, has been active in western Mosul since operations to retake the city launched in October. It had made significant gains by besieging IS’s stronghold at the town of Tal Afar and cutting the group’s supply lines from Syria. The force, which received recognition as a national armed force, had, however, faced accusations of human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violations.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in a brief announcement earlier on Sunday that security forces launched an operation to retake the western side of Mosul, Islamic State holy warriors’ largest stronghold in Iraq which the group took over in 2014. He said on January 24th that government forces, backed by popular militias and U.S.-led coalition troops, had cleared the whole of the eastern region from snuffies after more than three months of fighting.

Also on Sunday, military media said army and Federal Police forces recaptured the villages of Azba and Bakhira, as well as Lazzagah power station near the Tigris River.

Africa Subsaharan
25 Civilians Killed in DR Congo Ethnic Attack
[An Nahar] Militiamen from the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
's Nande ethnic group have killed 25 civilians in the country's violence-torn east, almost all of them hacked to death with machetes, local officials and activists said Saturday.

"In total 25 people were killed, decapitated by machete by the Mai-Mai Mazembe in and around the village of Kyaghala," Francis Bakundakabo, the local representative of the governor of North Kivu province, told AFP.

"All of these people were Hutu civilians," he said, adding that the killings took place between 4:00 am and 8:00 am on Saturday morning.

Hope Kubuya, a local civil society activist whose group went to verify the attack, said 24 of the victims had been killed with machetes and one woman rubbed out.

"This raid by the Mai-Mai Mazembe in the Hutu village will inflame the inter-ethnic conflict in the region," he added.

The Mai-Mai are a "self-defense" militia who count members of DR Congo's Nande, Hunde and Kobo communities among their ranks, in opposition to rivals from the Nyaturu group representing ethnic Hutus.

The area around Kyaghala is majority-Hutu.

The last major attack to strike the volatile region came in December when at least 35 non-combatants were killed in festivities between fighters from the two groups.

DR Congo's Nande, Hunde and Kobo people largely regard Hutus as foreigners, while the migration north of Hutu farmers -- forced to abandon their southern territory due to rising land prices and under pressure from powerful landowners -- has added to the strain.

Tensions between the Nande and Hutu communities have been growing worse for more than a year, with a series of village attacks by militia groups on both sides in the center of North Kivu. The province, like much of eastern DRC, has been riven by conflict for more than two decades.

Since December, the DRC's political crisis has also worsened, with President Joseph Kabila refusing to step down despite his mandate coming to an end.

The international community has urged government and opposition parties in the country to restart deadlocked talks to set up a transition regime ahead of elections due later this year.

Though the vast central African nation is rich in mineral wealth and water, it has long been one of the continent's poorest nations and rising unrest has only deepened the economic malaise.

#1  Marquess of Queensberry totally absent? Nearly everything happening there (since the recording of history) contains ethnic origins. Ethnicity is the common denominator for sorting anything and everything out. Promotion of the values of modern civilization through colonization have simply not caught on, and likely never will.

Academic achievement and matriculation numbers are in decline as well. If you sense a corollary, you may not be wrong.

Paul rips McCain: Take his press comments 'with a grain of salt'
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Sunday warned against taking seriously comments his Senate colleague John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump...
of Arizona made on Saturday, in which the Arizona politician compared President Trump's actions toward the press to "how dictators get started."

"The thing is, I don't agree with his analysis and applying that to the president," Paul told Jon Karl, guest host of ABC's "This Week." "Everything that [McCain] says about the president is colored by his own personal dispute he's got running with President Trump and it should be taken with a grain of salt, because John McCain's the guy that's advocated for war everywhere. He would bankrupt the nation."

Paul, known for his noninterventionist foreign policy, also expressed relief that the 2008 Republican presidential nominee did not have a chance to act on his views as a commander in chief.

"And actually, we're very lucky John McCain's not in charge because I think we would be in perpetual war," Paul said.

IS accuses western Mosul people of treason as call to arms defied

has accused citizens in western djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
of treason as many defied calls to join the fight against government forces which had begun an invasion of the region to drive out the bully boy group.

A local source told Alsumaria News that IS members, boarding pickup trucks and holding loudspeakers, urged citizens to join the battle’s front line to push back the major security offensive.

With citizens abstaining, some IS leaders, through megaphones, accused them of "treason" and "dishonoring allegiance" to the group, according to the source, who explained that 90 percent of residents who signed up for drafting weeks earlier failed to show up, putting the group in a tight spot.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment...
another local source told Alsumaria News that unknown assailants set fire on Sunday to three Islamic State headquarters, a few hours after the group evacuated the facilities. A local source had also said earlier that five IS combat patrols became under a gun attack in less than one hour, prompting forces of Evil to impose a comprehensive curfew at six districts.

Security forces marked a successful start on Sunday by recapturing nearly six villages and a major power station as Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi officially announced a decisive phase of operations to retake western Mosul.

Iraq Digs Anti-IS Trench around City of Ramadi
[An Nahar] Security forces in Iraq's western region of Anbar began digging a trench around the scenic provincial capital Ramadi Sunday to protect it against infiltrations by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, officials said.

The trench and berm defensive structure will be 45 kilometers (28 miles) long, protecting mostly the city's southern and western side from the vast desert of Anbar where IS has remote hideouts.

"Anbar Operations Command has begun digging a trench and building berms south of Ramadi," provincial council member Adhal al-Fahdawi told AFP.

"The purpose is to stop boom-mobiles and other security breaches from desert regions," he said.

"The desert in Anbar is vast, it faces Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Jordan and Syria and it is not fully secured. There are many canyons in which ISIS members can hide," he said, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

Iraqi forces retook Ramadi, which lies about 160 kilometers (100 miles) west of Baghdad, a year ago but IS fighters have continued to harass the security forces there.

The city, large parts of which were completely leveled in the fighting, needs to be secure if reconstruction efforts are to be stepped up.

"The main reason for this project is to prevent infiltrations by Lions of Islam and suicide kaboomers and their boom-mobiles, as well as movements by traffickers," Mahmud al-Falahi, who heads the Anbar Operations Command, said.

He said the trench and the berms would be around five-feet (1.5 meters) deep and high respectively.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
AP Exclusive: Hundreds of Texans may have voted improperly
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] Texas election officials have acknowledged that hundreds of people were allowed to bypass the state's toughest-in-the-nation voter ID law and improperly cast ballots in the November presidential election by signing a sworn statement instead of showing a photo ID.
If the Democrats were smart they wouldn't be challenging Trump on his "millions of illegal votes" meme. In fact, they'd go along quietly with a gentle correction or two of the voting laws (and then figure out how to subvert the corrections). As it is, their strident insistence that Trump is making all this up is simply causing people to look long and hard. And we now have a DoJ that will take voter fraud seriously. The Democrats may rue the day they mocked the Donald over this...
The chief election officers in two of the state's largest counties are now considering whether to refer cases to local prosecutors for potential perjury charges or violations of election law. Officials in many other areas say they will simply let the mistakes go, citing widespread confusion among poll workers and voters.

The Texas law requires voters to show one of seven approved forms of identification to cast ballots. It was softened in August to allow people without a driver's license or other photo ID to sign an affidavit declaring that they have an impediment to obtaining required identification.

Even after the affidavits were introduced, voters who possess an acceptable photo ID were still required to show it at the polls.

The revelations come as President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
makes frequent claims that the nation's voting systems are vulnerable to fraud. The president has repeatedly said, without citing any evidence, that he would have won the popular vote if not for 3 million to 5 million immigrants colonists in the country illegally who voted for his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
An News Agency that Dare Not be Named analysis of roughly 13,500 affidavits submitted in Texas' largest counties found at least 500 instances in which voters were allowed to get around the law by signing an affidavit and never showing a photo ID, despite indicating that they possessed one.

Others used the sworn declarations to lodge protest statements against the law.

One affidavit from Hidalgo County, along the Texas-Mexico border, read: "Did not want to 'pander' to government requirement." In Tarrant County, an election judge noted on an affidavit: "Had photo ID but refused to show it."

"If we see that somebody blatantly says 'I have ID' and refused to show it, we're going to turn that over to the D.A.," said Stephen Vickers, chief deputy elections administrator for Tarrant County, which includes Fort Worth. "If they tried to use the affidavit to get around the system, yeah, I see that as a violation."

The disclosures came as top Texas Republicans cheered the case of a Mexican national who was sentenced to eight years in prison for illegal voting. Rosa Maria Ortega was convicted earlier this month on two felony counts of illegal voting over allegations she improperly cast a ballot five times between 2005 and 2014 in Tarrant County. Her attorney has said Ortega was a permanent U.S. resident who mistakenly thought she was eligible to vote.

China-Japan-Koreas
U.S. deploys carrier to contentious South China Sea
The United States deployed aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson to patrol the increasingly contentious South China Sea, despite Beijing’s warnings not to challenge its sovereignty in the resource-rich sea.

The Navy described Saturday's launch as the beginning of “routine operations” in the South China Sea. China claims most of the sea as its own, despite overlapping territorial and jurisdictional claims from the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei.

Last week at a news conference, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Geng Shuang, denounced advance news of the deployment. He added that China urged the U.S. to “refrain from challenging China’s sovereignty and security” in the sea.

About 30% of global maritime trade passes through the South China Sea each year, worth $5.3 trillion, according to the U.S. Defense Department in a 2015 report. The waters are also key fishing resources and are rich in oil and natural gas reserves.

The United States has taken no position on the territorial claims but has conducted periodic freedom of navigation operations near the Chinese holdings, which have triggered heated warnings from Beijing. In July, a senior Chinese admiral said such operations could end “in disaster.”

Ahead of its deployment to the South China Sea, the USS Carl Vinson and other ships and aircraft from the strike group conducted training off Hawaii and Guam.

"The training completed over the past few weeks has really brought the team together and improved our effectiveness and readiness as a strike group," Rear Adm. James Kilby, commander of the strike group, said in a statement. "We are looking forward to demonstrating those capabilities while building upon existing strong relationships with our allies, partners and friends in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region."

Fifth Column
New York Times obituary for Blind Sheikh Abdel Rahman a classic of its ilk
[AmericanThinker] When an anti-American monster dies, count on the New York Times to go out of its way to evoke sympathy in its obituary, as a way of claiming “balance” and objectivity.  Even for a monster that wanted to cause mass casualties in the name of enslaving us under Sharia law as dhimmis.

And by its own standards, the Times succeeded yesterday, commemorating the passing of Sheikh Abdel Rahman.

In the lede sentence, it acknowledged he was the  “blind Islamic cleric whose fulminating sermons inspired violent fundamentalist movements.” But after stipulating the “inspiring” nature of his words and leaving the violent consequences utterly vague, the Times went on to play its sympathy violin:

Mr. Abdel Rahman, who was known as the blind sheikh, spent years in the most severe solitary confinement, barred from communicating with his followers, praying with other Muslim prisoners or even listening to Arabic radio. Failing blood circulation due to diabetes had killed the sensation in his fingertips, making it impossible for him to read his Braille Islamic texts.

Poor boy! There is no mention that the reason he was put in solitary and banned from communicating was because he had been communicating terror plans to his radical leftist lawyer, Lynne Stewart, to pass along to terrorists, convicted of same and currently living out her days in federal prison, as she fights cancer and pleas for compassionate release.

China-Japan-Koreas
China suspends North Korean coal imports
China will suspend all imports of coal from North Korea until the end of the year, the Commerce Ministry announced Saturday, in a surprise move that would cut off a major financial lifeline for Pyongyang and significantly enhance the effectiveness of U.N. sanctions.

Coal is North Korea’s largest export item, and also China’s greatest point of leverage over the regime.
The cynic in me wonders what China will buy from North Korea instead. And how big China's coal reserves are.
The ministry said the ban would come into force Sunday and be effective until Dec. 31.

China said the move was designed to implement November’s United Nations Security Council resolution that tightened sanctions against the regime in the wake of its last nuclear test. But experts said the move also reflected Beijing’s deep frustration with North Korea over its recent missile test and the assassination of Kim Jong Un’s half brother in Malaysia.
The missile test was likely done either with China's blessing or with China's blind eye. But whacking Fredo may have been one step too far.
Kim Jong Nam had been hosted and protected by China for many years, and his murder, if proved to be conducted on Pyongyang’s orders, would be seen as a direct affront to Beijing, experts said.

China has also come under significant international pressure to do more to rein in North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is believed to have become increasingly irritated by Kim Jong Un’s behavior.
China may also see this as a useful counter to Trump's willingness to mix it up on the South China Sea. We'll give you something if you respond in kind...
North Korea is China’s fourth-biggest supplier of coal. Although China announced in April that it would ban North Korean coal imports to comply with U.N. sanctions, it made exceptions for deliveries intended for the “people’s well-being” and not connected to North Korea’s missile programs. In practice, that exception was the cover for coal to continue to flow across the border in huge quantities, with imports of non-lignite coal up 14.5 percent last year to 22.5 million metric tons (24.8 million U.S. tons).
Yes, grasshopper, the Chinese lied...
But in a sign that Beijing’s patience was running out, it rejected a coal shipment from North Korea worth about $1 million Monday, the day after the test of an intermediate-range ballistic missile, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported.

China has long been reluctant to do anything that might threaten the stability of the North Korean regime — mainly because it fears that the reunification of the Korean Peninsula could bring South Korea, an American ally that hosts U.S. troops, right up to its border. Given that a total ban on coal imports could be destabilizing, it remains to be seen how firmly the pledge will be carried out.

But Pyongyang’s unwillingness to consider China’s interests has badly damaged — or even destroyed — trust between the long-standing allies.

“China still places a premium on stability, but Xi Jinping is growing more and more frustrated with Kim Jong Un,” said Paul Haenle, director of the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center in Beijing, adding that the missile test and the assassination were seen as “serious offenses.”

“Beijing took the assassination as a direct affront to China. Xi is less willing to tolerate these provocations,” he said. “China is putting a squeeze on its economic lifeline to send a message to Pyongyang.”

Wang Weimin, a professor at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University in Shanghai, said sympathy for North Korea’s national security concerns had disappeared in Beijing, and “blood ties” between the countries had been broken as it became clear that the regime could not be tamed.

“If we choose an ally that can’t be tamed, we might become the biggest loser,” he said. “That’s why we are more and more strict with North Korea. Now self-interest is central. We won’t pay attention to North Korea’s interests anymore.”
Perhaps this is the time for Mr. Trump to extend my offer to the Chinese: divide North Korea in two, between the South and China. Each takes care of its own; the ordinary Nork citizens get to choose where they live, and the USA, after a brief observation period, agrees to leave the Korean peninsula. Win-win-win-win for everyone except Fat Boy and his sycophantic generals.
President Trump has also called on China to put more pressure on North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons program, and the subject may have come up during a telephone conversation he had with Xi earlier this month. China has “total control over North Korea,” Trump said in an interview on “Fox & Friends” in early January. “And China should solve that problem. And if they don’t solve the problem, we should make trade very difficult for China.”
It's called, "the art of the deal"...

#1  Regimes like the Norks don't care. Power is all they care about. You could send in a dozen or so divisions along the less guarded Yalu river, but the danger there would be the display of the competency or lack of it of your military.

China does have significant coal reserves. The issue is one of infrastructure and transportation.

Kuwait Jails Senior Official for Joining IS Jihadists
[An Nahar] Kuwait's supreme court on Sunday sentenced a top bureaucrat to 10 years in jail for joining and fighting with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. jihadist group in Syria and Iraq.

The court also fined the unnamed Kuwaiti national, who was a top official at the Kuwait municipality, $30,000 and convicted him of calling other people to join the group.

The ruling is final and cannot be challenged.

Kuwaiti courts have sentenced a number of IS members, sympathizers and financiers to various jail terms.

A lower court in December sentenced a Filipina to 10 years in jail after convicting her of joining the jihadist group and plotting attacks.

Authorities in July said they had dismantled three IS cells plotting attacks, including a suicide kaboom against a Shiite mosque and against an interior ministry target.

An IS-linked Saudi jacket wallah killed 26 worshipers in June 2015 when he went kaboom! in a mosque of Kuwait's Shiite minority, in the worst such attack in the Gulf state's history.

Yemen requests UN to designate Houthis as ‘terrorists’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The legitimate government of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi has requested the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Security Council to designate Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias as "terrorists".

In a letter read out by Yemen’s envoy to the United Nations Khaled al-Yamani on Saturday, Iranian interferences by supplying weapons to Houthi militias were highlighted.

Yamani submitted the complaint in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia grabbed for Jane's hair to make her point. Jane elbowed her in the face in rebuttal...
a report issued by UN experts on the situation in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
revealed that Houthi militias’ violations range from corruption to torture.

The report exposed the militias’ financial corruption and said that they violated the humanitarian international law during the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former Clinton IT Aide May Face Criminal Charges Over Email Server
[FREEBEACON] A former State Department IT technician who set up Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
's private email server in her home may face criminal charges for avoiding multiple subpoenas to testify on Clinton's email server.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter on Thursday to Attorney General Jeff Session asking that Bryan Pagliano be charged for ignoring multiple subpoenas requesting that he testify before the Oversight Committee.

Pagliano was responsible for managing Clinton's private server and also served as a senior adviser to the former secretary of state.

"Because Pagliano's job functions included supporting mobile computing issues across the department, he was uniquely positioned to answer questions regarding State Department policies and practices for preserving records, as well as the technological procedures utilized to do so," Chaffetz wrote.

The Republican from Utah noted that Pagliano's testimony would have allowed the Oversight Committee to more fully do its job investigating Clinton's private server.

"There is no legal basis for Pagliano's refusal to appear before the committee," Chaffetz said. "In light of Pagliano's contumacious conduct in refusing to testify, the department should bring the matter before a grand jury for its action or file an information charging Pagliano with violating 2 U.S.C. § 192."

Violation of 2 U.S.C. § 192, which allows Congress to subpoeana witnesses, could result in a fine between $100 and $1,000 and a prison sentence of one month to one year, according to the New York Post.

Pagliano, who worked on Clinton's failed 2008 presidential campaign, refused to appear twice before the oversight panel, invoking his Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate himself. The Republican-controlled Oversight Committee voted in September to hold him in contempt of Congress.

Soberanis-Rumaldo was sentenced to eight years in Stateville Correctional Center on a felony charge of cocaine possession in March 2003. Authorities say he escaped while on work release in June 2003.

Ex-clinic managers for Planned Parenthood say it treats women like cattle
[Wash Times] Former clinic managers for Planned Parenthood say the organization is less interested in providing quality health care for women than in performing as many abortions as possible.

In a video released by Live Action last week, former clinic manager Ramona Treviño compares the relationship between Planned Parenthood and women to that between a rancher and cattle.

"For me, it was a struggle, because I felt like Planned Parenthood treated women like cattle," Ms. Treviño says in the three-minute video.

That sentiment is echoed by former clinic manager Sue Thayer, who recalls receiving instructions from Planned Parenthood to get patients in and out as quickly as possible.

"They kept pushing harder and harder and harder to see more and more clients," Ms. Thayer says in the video. "I remember when it went to four an hour, everybody was like, ’How are we supposed to see four an hour?’ And then it was five an hour. And it got so, when your clinician was there, it was this insane, crazy, chaotic time."
And the unborn, how are they treated ?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish, Russian commanders control line between FSA and Syrian regime in al-Bab
[Hurriyet] Control of an emptied road that separates the Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) from the forces of the Syrian regime in the south of Syria’s al-Bab has been given to Turkish and Russian commanders on either side, with the aim of avoiding any confrontation, sources told daily Hürriyet.

Sources speaking on condition of anonymity said that the road between Turkey-backed FSA rebels and forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had been formed after the former forces started advancing to the south after encircling al-Bab from the north, east and west, and the latter trying to move to the northern more parts of the city from the south.

The emptied road - between rival forces that are both fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in al-Bab - is comprised of between eight to 10 kilometers linking the town of Manij to Aleppo, sources stated. While the line emptied of soldiers is as narrow as 200 meters in some places, it widens to as much as one kilometer in others.

FSA members to the north of the line are led by a Turkish commander, while Syrian regime forces to the south of the road are led by a Russian commander, sources said.

With a deal reached between Turkey and Russia, a cease-fire across Syria has mostly held since Dec. 30, 2016. Ankara and Moscow, which support opposite sides in the six-year-old war, say they are trying to turn the cease-fire into a permanent truce and launch credible peace negotiations.

Turkey backs FSA rebels as part of its ongoing Euphrates Shield operation that it launched in August last year in order to clear its border of terrorists.
