Chicago Moving To Name Street After FALN Terrorist Oscar Lopez Rivera
The location of North Luis Munoz Marin Drive is in Humboldt Park. That neighborhood has seen a total of 20 shootings this year... 17 wounded and 3 killed. Oscar Lopez Rivera Street seems darkly appropriate for one of the deadliest neighborhoods in Chicago.

Chicago is considering naming a street after Oscar Lopez Rivera, the domestic terrorist who founded the FALN terror group responsible for killing six people and perpetrating some 130 bombings and terror attacks on U.S. soil between 1974 and 1983.

Twenty-sixth Ward Alderman Robert Maldonado submitted a proposal to name a three-block stretch of North Luis Munoz Marin Drive after the convicted terrorist early in February. The proposal was quickly pushed through ahead of new rules that would prevent people who are still living from having a Chicago street named after them.

Alderman Maldonado attempted to claim that the new street name is not meant to honor the FALN terror outfit but is only meant to honor Rivera. Others note that it is farcical to claim you are honoring a man whose only claim to fame is in starting a terror group while pretending you are not also honoring the terror group.

Joe Connor, the son of a man killed by a FALN terror attack in 1975, was furious at the move to honor his father’s murderer, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"He is a sworn terrorist," Connor said. "He was convicted of bombings in Chicago that did injure people. He tried to escape from prison with machine guns and plastic explosives where he was gonna kill the guards. ... And Chicago is gonna put up a sign in his honor?"

Until reading this article, I was unaware that Ringo Starr was a Chicago copper...

No worries: Paul Ryan found his Adderall
[President Hillary Rodham Clinton] WASHINGTON D.C. -- Politico is reporting that the U.S. House of Representatives is back on track debating criminal justice reform thanks to a courageous Senate page, who discovered House Speaker Paul Ryan's missing Adderall prescription in a trash bin.

Ryan apparently misplaced his precious prescription yesterday afternoon while pumping iron in the Senate gymnasium. On realizing he had lost his stash of doctor-approved amphetamine, Ryan allegedly became frantic, saying "Ayn Rand will never love me!" and crying "How am I supposed to read my own budget? How?"

Within hours, the crisis escalated, until the entire legislative branch of the government found itself unable to function.

"We were only saved by the Senate pages," said Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, shuddering.

Senator Kamala Harris said the Senate pages "saved the republic" by staging an impromptu emergency search and rescue party, trawling through trash bins, couch cushions and bathrooms until they found the Speaker's beloved medication idling in a trash can.

"Whichever janitor put the Speaker's Adderall in the trash - I just hope they don't get fired," said Pelosi.

The Perils of Letting Obama Off The Hook For Executive Overreach
[War On The Rocks] Many Americans were fond of Barack Obama. He left office with some of the highest approval ratings of his entire term. On foreign policy, as in most matters, he seemed reflective, deliberate, and rational. An effective communicator, he maintained composure and presidential poise, no matter the topic.

In rare moments of frustration, Obama channeled "disappointed sitcom dad" rather than "blustering bully." Love him or hate him, Obama was a gentleman. And that’s the problem. Mainstream progressives ‐ who cried foul at George W. Bush’s every move ‐ looked the other way as Obama expanded unfettered presidential power in foreign affairs. Why? Because they trusted him ‐ his judgment, character, and motives. Maybe that trust was warranted.

Here’s the catch: the 22nd amendment. No president may serve for more than eight years, no matter how beloved (by some). Furthermore, each chief executive creates important precedents for his successor. For this reason, many liberals ‐ and perhaps the former president himself ‐ may come to lament Obama’s principal foreign policy legacy: the unbridled expansion of executive power in matters of (endless) war.

Presidential primacy is nothing new, of course. Executive power has gradually expanded for centuries, especially since World War II. The Obama administration eschewed imprudent, large-scale, conventional invasions, but his legacy is also defined by a sustained campaign of extrajudicial killings of terrorists, expanding the range and geographic scope of military operations, and cracking down on media leaks and whistleblowers. In each sphere, Obama’s hawkish behavior surpassed even that of George W. Bush.

This is one reason why Republican criticism of Obama’s supposedly "weak" and "feckless" foreign policy was so confusing. Sure, it’s fair to debate the wisdom of the Iran nuclear deal, his handling of the Syrian civil war, and his near-total withdrawal from Iraq. These are thorny issues worthy of complex analysis. But to label Obama a "dove" is just empirically false.

Bush and his advisors ‐ think Cheney, Wolfowitz, and company ‐ thought big: massive invasions, democracy promotion, remaking the Middle East, etc. Not so for "no-drama Obama." He preferred more precise, discreet responses to regional terrorism. Bush may have started the covert drone strikes in Yemen, Somalia, and Pakistan, but Obama ordered ten times as many attacks. Look, many (maybe a majority) of the victims were dangerous, dedicated terrorists. However, militants’ family members and other innocent bystanders also perished. One might plausibly ask why the method of killing matters. War is war and it is hell, after all. Nonetheless, there is something unique, unsettling, and even "Orwellian" about a president maintaining "kill lists" and holding "Terror Tuesday" targeting meetings. Remember, the United States is not at war with Pakistan, Somalia, Libya, or Yemen. After 15 years of strife, it seems Americans became numb to just how unprecedented this is ‐ violating airspace to kill foreign nationals in sovereign nations on a weekly basis.

#5  Beso, they've got several. The problem is there are too many of the inner party that are 'pubs embedded in the graft-ocrocy. That will fight any attempt to slow down the money river.

As far as I'm concerned the only change needed is to return to the system circa 2008. Then tweak a few things like inter-state insurance and maybe a Medicaid twist.

Alan Colmes, Titzup At 66
Fox News Channel's Alan Colmes has passed away at age 66 after a brief illness.

Colmes leaves behind his wife, Jocelyn Crowley, who issued the following statement:

Alan Colmes passed away this morning after a brief illness. He was 66-years-old. He leaves his adoring and devoted wife, Jocelyn Elise Crowley. He was a great guy, brilliant, hysterical, and moral. He was fiercely loyal, and the only thing he loved more than his work was his life with Jocelyn. He will be missed. The family has asked for privacy during this very difficult time.

Bill Hemmer announced the sad news this morning on "America's Newsroom," which then aired a tribute package from Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity, his former co-host on "Hannity & Colmes."

In a statement this morning, Hannity called Alan Colmes "one of life's most decent, kind and wonderful people you'd ever want to meet."

North Korea Mocks China for ‘Dancing to U.S. Tune'
In answer to this post - YES
North Korea appeared to lash out at Beijing in a state-media commentary published Thursday, aiming unusually pointed rhetoric at a powerful neighbor that Pyongyang has long relied on for economic and diplomatic support.

The commentary, published by the state-controlled Korean Central News Agency, didn't name China but left little doubt about its target: "a neighboring country, which often claims itself to be a ‘friendly neighbor'."

The article lambasted China for playing down North Korea's nuclear capabilities and for curbing foreign trade‐an apparent reference to China's weekend announcement that it would suspend coal imports from North Korea for the rest of the year.

Europe
Sweden: Hate Speech Just for Imams
[GatestoneInstitute] - In Sweden, comments that object to sexual violence against women in the Quran are prosecuted, but calling homosexuality a "virus" is fine.

- Antisemitism has become so socially acceptable in Sweden that anti-Semites can get away with anything, and no one even notices, as Nima Gholam Ali Pour reports.

- One of Sweden's main news outlets, in fact, described anti-Semitism as simply a different opinion. Clearly, in the eyes of Swedish authorities, neither homosexuals nor Jews count for much.

- Swedish authorities also give large sums of money to organizations that advocate violence and invite hate preachers who support terrorist organizations such as ISIS. One of the speakers SFM (Swedish Federation of Muslims) hired was Michael Skråmo, who has publicly called on his fellow Muslims to join ISIS and has appeared in propaganda videos, posing with assault rifles alongside his small children.

Terror Networks
Caliphate in Decline - ISIS running short of other people's money
[Breitbart] The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) is plagued by financial troubles, with annual revenue falling by over 50 percent over the last two years, a study finds.
The challenge of modern governance everywhere.
However, "the decline in revenues may not have an immediate effect on the group’s ability to carry out terrorist attacks outside its territory. While hurting Islamic State finances puts pressure on the organization and its state-building project, wider efforts will continue to be necessary to ultimately defeat it," points out the London-based International Center for the Study of Radicalization (ICSR) and accounting group Ernst & Young in its study.

Moreover, ISIS and its affiliates have expanded to multiple countries where they may find sources of income other than what is available to them in their so-called caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

Page 7 of the study outlines the specific sources of ISIS revenue.

#1  The article suggests that ISIS (terrorism) could be turning to the opium fields of Afghanistan as a potential funding source. Could there possibly be a proof of concept? And what of Chicago, Houston and LA? But I digress.

As the fledgling caliphate matures, it will likely move on to more advanced schemes of revenue creation such as; foreign aide programmes, weapons sales, and nuclear counter-proliferation, an ISIS NPR, Ernst & Young or RAND type studies. Did I mention weapons sales ?

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli Right wins historic fight over Supreme Court justices
Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked was the biggest winner Wednesday night in the battle over the Supreme Court’s future, with three of four justices appointed by the Judicial Selection Committee either reflecting a more conservative approach to the law or being on her list of acceptable non-activist judges.

Shaked had pushed for Jerusalem District Court Judge David Mintz, a conservative Gush Etzion resident, to be named to the Supreme Court. Haifa District Court President Yosef Elron was primarily the Israel Bar Association’s and Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon’s candidate, but was viewed as acceptable by Shaked.

In contrast, the three justices on the Judicial Selection Committee did not get any of their preferred candidates, sufficing with Haifa District Court Judge Yael Vilner, who is Orthodox and was also viewed positively by Shaked as a compromise candidate to fill a seat expected to go to a woman.

The fourth appointee, Tel Aviv District Court Judge George Kara, was as close as the justices’ bloc got to having its own candidate, as he was selected over Tel Aviv District Court Judge Khaled Kabuv, preferred by the Bar Association. But even that appointment was not seen as a real win for the bloc.

Shaked declaring it "a historic day... the flagship boat of our judicial system changed its direction tonight."

I want her for our next PM

[WSJ] WASHINGTON--Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) secretly traveled to northern Syria last weekend to speak with American military officials and Kurdish fighters at the forefront of the push to drive Islamic State out of their de facto capital of Raqqa, according to U.S. officials.

The unusual visit, which officials said was organized with the help of the U.S. military, came as the Trump administration is debating plans for an accelerated military campaign against Islamic State, also known by the acronyms ISIS and ISIL.

Mr. McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, first traveled to rebel-controlled Syria in 2013, when he met with leaders of the Free Syrian Army, the umbrella group supported by America and its allies. This was believed to be his first visit to Syria since then.

U.S. officials familiar with Mr. McCain’s trip said that the senator traveled to Kobani, the Syrian town on the Turkey border controlled by Kurdish forces since 2012.

In a statement, Mr. McCain’s office confirmed that a trip took place, saying the senator "traveled to northern Syria last week to visit U.S. forces deployed there and to discuss the counter-ISIL campaign and ongoing operations to retake Raqqa.

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski: It's 'Our Job' to 'Control Exactly What People Think'
[PJ] During a discussion on the MSNBC show "Morning Joe" Wednesday morning, a liberal TV host let slip her view of what the media's "job" is, and it isn't "to report the news."

In a discussion about fears that President Donald Trump is "trying to control the media," co-host Mika Brzezinski complained that Trump is trying to do her job. Namely, to "actually control exactly what people think."

"Well, I think that the dangerous, you know, edges here are that he is trying to undermine the media and trying to make up his own facts," Brzezinski said. "And it could be that while unemployment and the economy worsens, he could have undermined the messaging so much so that he can actually control exactly what people think. And that, that is our job." (emphasis added)

To be fair, Brzezinski later tried to clarify her remarks: "Today I said it's the media's job to keep President Trump from making up his own facts, NOT that it's our job to control what people think."

#5  Nailed it in one, P2K.

Even Canada has a la carte cable now. There's no good reason for the U.S. not to have it.

The reason we don't is greed.

Forced bundling is officious rent-seeking, even welfare, by the infotainment industry. Without it more than half of cable networks would collapse. That means half the network presidents, vice presidents, CFOs, and the rest of the staff at all these would be out of a job overnight. The flush of job-seekers at these positions would also mean that the remaining solvent networks would be able to fire their current ones and hire someone at a much lower salary, decreasing the pay scale overall.

Everyone in the cable and infotainment industries knows this, knows that it is coming some day, and does all they can to put it off for as long as possible, hoping they can get to retirement before the hammer comes down.

We are being bilked for billions by a bunch of officious thugs who are not allowing creative destruction in their own industry in order to make a few more bucks - and not letting the market decide who should succeed or fail.

Apply the anti-trust laws. Apply RICO if necessary. If these networks can't make it without artificial and illegal things like bundling they don't deserve to exist at all, and neither do the paychecks associated with them.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The labyrinth of illegal immigration
[Wash Times] Activists portray illegal immigration solely as a human story of the desperately poor from south of the border fleeing misery to start new, productive lives in the United States -- despite exploitation and America’s nativist immigration laws.

But the truth is always more complex -- and can reveal self-interested as well as idealistic parties.

Employers have long sought to undercut the wages of the American underclass by preference for cheaper imported labor. The upper-middle classes have developed aristocratic ideas of hiring inexpensive "help" to relieve them of domestic chores.

The Mexican government keeps taxes low on its elite in part by exporting, rather than helping, its own poor. It causes little worry that some $25 billion in remittances sent from Mexican citizens working in America puts hardship on those expatriates, who are often subsidized by generous U.S. social services.

Mexico City rarely welcomes a heartfelt discussion about why its citizens flee Mexican exploitation and apparently have no wish to return home. Nor does Mexico City publicize its own stern approaches to immigration enforcement along its southern border -- or its ethnocentric approach to all immigration (not wanting to impair "the equilibrium of national demographics") that is institutionalized in Mexico’s constitution.

The Democratic Party is also invested in illegal immigration, worried that its current agendas cannot win in the Electoral College without new constituents who appreciate liberal support for open borders and generous social services.

Europe
Euro Counter-Terror Official: IRGC, Muslim Brotherhood Are Not Terror Groups
[Free Beacon] A leading European counter-terrorism official is facing criticism after claiming that the Muslim Brotherhood and Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, are not terrorist groups.

Peter Neumann, an Austrian counter-terrorism official charged with working to combat violent extremism under the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) attracted criticism this week after stating that both the Brotherhood and IRGC are not terrorist groups and should not be formally designated as such.

Neumann's stance elicited criticism from U.S. terror experts who told the Washington Free Beacon that this line of thinking would not help European officials combat a rising threat from radical terrorists, many of whom have become radicalized through extremist doctrines promoted by the Muslim Brotherhood and the theocratic regime in Iran. The position also runs counter to views held by the Trump administration, which has vowed tougher action on radical organizations.

A senior White House official who spoke to the Free Beacon about the matter disclosed that the Trump administration is keeping a keen eye on all of these groups and will not hesitate to take action as the administration works to combat radical groups.

"Like with Muslim Brotherhood, the main argument against designating them as terrorist organisation is that they aren't one," Neumann stated on Twitter Tuesday, a day before he was appointed as a special representative on radicalization for the OSCE.

Neumann, who also serves as director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization and Political Violence based in London, is tasked with helping the OSCE combat the rise of Islamic terrorism amid reports of growing threats across the continent. An estimated 10,000 individuals from OSCE member countries are reported to have traveled to Syria to wage jihad.

Neumann's stance appears to clash with the national security vision backed by the Trump administration and many U.S. lawmakers, who view both groups as terror agents and have sought to formally designate them as terror outfits.

The White House is already considering a designation for the Brotherhood and could pursue similar designations for the IRGC.

Syrian migrant on trial in Austria over 20 murders back home

[AlAhram] A Syrian migrant went on trial in Austria on Wednesday for allegedly executing 20 wounded government soldiers in his home country. The 27-year-old was arrested in a refugee shelter in western Austria last June after being denounced by a fellow Syrian. He has been charged with 20 charges of "murder as a terror offence" and faces life in prison if found guilty.

According to Austrian media, the accused had boasted to other asylum seekers about shooting unarmed or wounded troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar-al Assad.

After his arrest, the suspect initially admitted to the 2013-2014 killings in the western city of Homs and the surrounding region but later retracted his confession.

Austria cannot extradite the man to face charges in Syria because of the bloody six-year civil war pitting Assad's government against rebel groups.

German intel agency notes dramatic increase in Islamic extremism

[DeutscheWelle] Germany's domestic security and intelligance agency (the BfV) said on Wednesday that the radical Islamist scene in the country had grown considerably, from only about 100 people in 2013 to some 1,600 today. Indeed, according to BfV chief Hans-Georg Maassen, the number had jumped by several hundred in a matter of months.

"We receive between two and four credible tips on planned terrorist activity in Germany each day," Maassen said. "We have to recognize that we are living in a different situation now than was normal."

The BfV explained that part of the reason for the uptick was the heavy press coverage of terror plots, as well as the increased ease in connecting with extremists online. It also cited an increased danger in young people being radicalized online, saying that then their friends and relatives might not be able to see what is happening.

Of the 1,600 Islamists living in Germany, Maassen said that about 570 of them were considered "dangerous," that is, capable of plotting an a terror attack.

"Trump’s lies have consequences," Reich wrote Tuesday afternoon on Twitter. "48 hrs after his comments on Sweden, riots broke out in an immigrant community." His statement refers to President Trump’s comments at a Florida rally this weekend, describing problems in the European country due to heavy migration from Muslim-majority nations:

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey to US: Act over Syria’s Manbij or we’ll reconsider
The United States should act in order to fulfill its promise to make Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) forces leave Syria’s Manbij in line with Ankara’s request or Turkey would have to reconsider an operation there, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Işık said Feb. 22.

“One of the crucial aims of Turkey is to end the PKK [outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party] - PYD presence in Manbij. If the United States does not do so, Turkey will have to re-evaluate this operation,” Işık said on Feb. 22 in a televised interview.

Turkey does not want PYD forces to go to the west of the Euphrates River, agreeing with the U.S. that PYD forces would leave Manbij and retreat to the east of the Euphrates following the town’s liberation from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The full withdrawal has not yet been realized, according to Turkey.

“This is something that will affect the Raqqa operation. Our advice, as Turkey, is to do this with the right actors who will solve the problem permanently in Raqqa,” Işık said, noting that they might not need Turkish ground troops in the Raqqa offensive.

“We do not think Turkish troops will be needed much in the Raqqa operation,” he stated.

Işık said the U.S. was aiming to finalize its plans for the Syria offensive.

The new U.S. administration has closer perspective toward Turkey, compared to the previous Barack Obama administration, he said.

Elaborating on Turkey’s proposal to launch the Raqqa offensive with Arab elements instead of cooperating with the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), Işık stated that Washington was concerned of a possible delay in the Raqqa operation. In his meeting with new U.S. Defense Minister James Mattis in Brussels, Işık stressed that he opposed the idea of uniting Syrian Kurdish cantons in northern Syria.

China-Japan-Koreas
No Signs of Cardiac Arrest or Puncture Wounds on Kim Jong-nam
No signs of cardiac arrest or puncture wounds were found on the body of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Malaysia's director-general of health, Hisham Abdullah, told reporters Tuesday that the cause of death remains unknown and samples taken from Kim Jong-nam's body were sent to a research center for analysis. Abdullah stressed that the post-mortem was carried out scientifically and according to proper procedures, refuting claims of a cover-up by the North Korean ambassador.

He added the entire autopsy was conducted under the watch of seasoned forensic pathologists, radiologists and forensic dentists, and a full-body scans, autopsy and dental examinations were carried out in a "respectful way."

But he denied reports of a second autopsy. "There's been no second autopsy performed on the deceased person," since the first one on Feb. 17, two days after Kim was apparently assassinated with a toxic liquid at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Abdullah added that none of Kim's family have appeared for DNA testing to verify the identity of the deceased, indirectly refuting media reports that Kim's son Han-sol arrived in Malaysia to identify the body. The Chinese-language Oriental Daily quoted local police as saying media claims of Kim Han-sol's arrival were false.

Meanwhile, Japan's Jiji Press cited a source as saying that three of the four North Korean suspects in Kim Jong-nam's assassination had returned to Pyongyang, but the whereabouts of a fourth, O Jong-gil (55), remain unclear. Jiji said O, who is thought to have masterminded the crude hit, may have escaped to Thailand or Laos.

3 wounded in ongoing artillery fire in Donetsk

A total of three soldiers, two Ukrainians and one rebel, were wounded in ongoing artillery fire exchanges in Donetsk, according to Russian and Ukrainian language news accounts.

According to a news account published in lb.ua, two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in an artillery fire strike, but the report did not elaborate on the locations of the soldiers.

Meanwhile, the Russian backed rebel government of Donetsk reported in an official news release Wednesday that a single soldier was wounded by Ukrainian artillery fire. The rebel report also did not note where the soldier was wounded.

According to various reports, both sides are trying to seek a solution to yet another ceasefire, "quiet mode" as it is commonly known in the region, but so far both sides have managed only to trade charges in addition to artillery fire.

The lb.ua report goes on to note that rebel artillery struck Ukrainian positions at Lebinsokoye and Shirokino Wednesday morning using 122mm tube and rocket artillery platforms. Rebel 82mm mortar fire was reported at Luganskoye, near western Donetsk city.

Rebel media reported that Ukrainian mortar fire was recorded hitting rebel positions Wednesday morning at Yasinovataya, east of Donetsk city, and in Leninskoye and Kominternovo near the coast of the Sea of Azov, near Mariupol. Rebel media also noted Ukrainian small arms gunfire in numerous locations along the line of contact.

Turkey lifts ban on army officers wearing Islamic headscarf
[SCMP] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s army is lifting a historic ban on female officers wearing the Islamic headscarf in the officially secular country, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Wednesday.

The move, ordered by the defence ministry, applies to female officers working in the general staff and command headquarters and branches, it said. Women may wear the headscarf underneath their cap or beret so long as it is the same colour as their uniform and does not cover their faces.

The reform will come into force once it is published in the official gazette. It was not immediately clear if it applied to women on combat missions. It will also apply to female cadets.

The ruling Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP) co-founded by President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

California City Passes Unanimous Resolution to Impeach Trump
The city council of Richmond, California -- a relatively poor, industrial community on the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay -- voted unanimously on Tuesday evening in favor of a resolution calling for President Donald Trump to be impeached.

The text of the resolution was not immediately available, but the city council agenda listed "a resolution in support of a Congressional investigation regarding the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump."

The basis for Trump’s impeachment, according to local ABC News affiliate KGO, would be the president’s alleged links to his private business holdings. Critics have claimed that these create conflicts of interest, and possibly violate the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause.

However, there is no evidence that Trump has benefited from conflicts of interest, or that he has done anything illegal to justify the "high crimes and misdemeanors" standard for impeachment. The Emoluments Clause argument is also thought by many constitutional scholars and legal analysts to be very weak.

Donald Trump has been something of an obsession for Richmond politicians. In 2015, the mayor blamed Trump for inciting a hate crime against a local mosque, even though the suspect had praised Hillary Clinton in social media.

Richmond is the sixth-poorest large city in the state, and has the highest public employee salary burden, according to a nonpartisan report issued last year. The report documented exorbitant salaries paid to local officials, such as $560,000 in total salary and benefits to the local fire chief.

China-Japan-Koreas
Has North Korea become even more isolated after assassination in Malaysia?
[SCMP] North Korea had few friends even before the liquidation of the leader’s half-brother at a Kuala Lumpur airport last week, but the fallout from the killing looks set to further isolate the nuclear-armed state.

Pyongyang and Kuala Lumpur have enjoyed relatively warm economic ties, with some bilateral trade and citizens from both countries entitled to travel to the other under a unique reciprocal visa-free deal.

Malaysia has also provided a channel between Pyongyang officials and the wider world, with Kuala Lumpur in recent years serving as a discreet meeting place for talks between the regime and the US.

But all that could come to an end following a war of words over Malaysia’s probe into the liquidation of Kim Jong-nam, which has seen Pyongyang’s envoy to Kuala Lumpur savage local police, and Malaysia recall its ambassador to the North.

Singapore cancelled its visa-free arrangement with Pyongyang last year in protest over the regime’s fourth nuclear test. Andray Abrahamian of Choson Exchange, a charity that provides economic policy training to North Koreans, believes Malaysia could now make a similar move.

"It wouldn’t surprise me. The arrangement is already absolutely unique. North Koreans don’t need a visa to work in Mongolia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. But the Malaysian side is the unusual thing," he said.

Malaysia and North Korea are both non-aligned nations and the one-off visa deal was likely hashed out as they sought to develop business ties, he said.

Gazans excited over territory's first indoor mall
Deja vu all over again, this time courtesy of the amnesiacs at Ay Pee.
[Ynet] In a welcome sign of normality, the first indoor shopping mall--complete with an international retail chain, three-story bookstore and bustling food court--has opened in the Gazoo Strip.

The owners have overcome conflict and an Israeli-Egyptian blockade to build the gleaming 1,800 square meter (19,000 sq. feet) Capital Mall. Now, they just have to find enough free-spending customers to keep the place afloat.

In many ways, the center is a reflection of the fragile local economy, which has been flooded by consumer goods from Israel that few people can afford. Stifled by the blockade, Gazoo produces very little on its own, and poverty and unemployment have soared. The mall, like the rest of electricity-starved Gazoo, requires a generator to keep the power flowing.

In the short term, the mall appears to be thriving. Thousands of Gazooks have visited as it slowly opened in recent weeks, buying shoes and clothes from the Turkish chain De Facto, searching for gifts and school supplies in the bookstore and heading up to the fourth-floor food court to enjoy burgers, pizza and ice cream. People can often be seen stumbling and giggling as they ride an escalator for the first time.
Here is video of the first ever Gaza Mall (9,700 square feet) in 2010. And an article with photos of the inaugural celebrations of the 3,000 square meter Al Andalusia Mall in 2011, with swimming pool and cinema.

REPORT: McCain has Trump calls and is sharing with leaders
[TruNews] TruePundit is reporting that Senator John McCain is sharing the contents of President Trump’s classified calls with world leaders.

(VERO BEACH, FLA) According to an analysis of Arizona Senator John McCain’s recent comments by unnamed White House officials, the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee is repeating information from the classified calls between President Trump and world leaders.

According to TruePundit.com, an investigation of McCain’s recent public statements paired with information from intelligence personnel working with the Trump administration, shows the senator has inside knowledge of the calls which leaked to the media, specifically the conversation between the President and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The White House officials who spoke to TP on condition of anonymity claim McCain is "secretly sharing this sensitive information with colleagues and his cabal of friendly mainstream media journalists in a dangerous clandestine campaign to damage Trump’s presidency.

"He has been given transcripts or actually listened to the calls and is sharing what he has heard," an administration insider told TP. "There is no doubt. He is one of the major leaks."

TRUNEWS previously reported that Katie Walsh was one of the high level White House officials leaking information to the media. Katie Walsh served as Senator McCain’s regional finance director for the Midwest during his 2008 presidential bid.

TruePundit gained notoriety during President Trump’s campaign with a story detailing the anonymous testimony of NYPD detectives and prosecutors working on the sexting case against former Congressman Anthony Weiner. The report, which scored a retweet from General Michael Flynn on November 2nd, claimed that evidence of child pedophilia, money laundering, and Clinton Foundation pay to play schemes were discovered on Weiner’s laptop.

In August, TRUNEWS published evidence that McCain had recorded a Tokyo Rose-style propaganda message which was broadcast on North Vietnamese radio in 1969.

Canada to welcome 1,200 Yazidi refugees in $21m operation
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Canada will resettle 1,200 Yazidi refugees who faced persecution by ISIS, the immigration minister said Tuesday.

Some 400 have already been airlifted to this country.

"Our operation is under way and individual survivors of ISIS have been arriving in Canada for resettlement in the last number of months and this began on October 25, 2016," Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen, using an Arabic name for ISIS.

"Our government will resettle approximately 1,200 highly vulnerable survivors of ISIS and their family members in Canada," he added.

The initiative follows Parliament's resolution last fall to take in Yazidis facing "genocide" in Iraq at the hands of ISIS.

The original aim was to bring over women and girls at risk, but Hussen told a news conference that Ottawa had learned that "ISIS has also deliberately targeted boys and as such we are helping to resettle all child survivors of ISIS."

Hussen said the migrants colonists are arriving on commercial flights at a "controlled pace" to avoid overwhelming Canada's refugee system.

The operation is expected to cost Can$28 million (US$21 million).

Since coming to power in late 2015, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has resettled 40,000 Syrian refugees.

The Yazidis taken in have been subjected to comprehensive security checks and medical examinations, Hussen said.

Yazidis are a Kurdish-speaking minority with a pre-Islamic religion thought partly to have its origin in the Zoroastrianism of ancient Persia. They are neither Arab nor Moslem and ISIS considers them polytheistic heretics.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian army takes district near Aleppo: monitor, media unit
(Rooters) The Syrian army and its allies took a small district on the outskirts of Aleppo from rebels on Wednesday, a war monitor and a military media unit run by Damascus ally Hezbollah said.

The advance was the army’s first from its lines in Aleppo city since rebels departed their enclave there in December, and came as government and opposition delegations arrived in Geneva for peace talks sponsored by the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
"The Syrian army and its allies control Souq al-Jibs, west of Assad suburb in southwest Aleppo," said the Hezbollah military media unit in a message. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said the army had taken the district.

Syria’s Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
has relied closely on allies such as Russia, Iran and Shi’ite militias, including Hezbollah, to make steady gains against rebels in western parts of the country and drive them from Aleppo in December.

Rebel forces in the area, which include both jihadist and nationalist groups, have periodically shelled parts of government-held Aleppo from positions in the western countryside nearby since the fighting inside the city stopped.

Clashes on the western side of Aleppo and its surroundings as the army and its allies advanced were accompanied by heavy shelling and aerial bombardment, said the Observatory, a Britannia-based war monitor.

After the rebels were driven from their Aleppo enclave in December, Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
‐ important foreign backers for the opposing sides in the war ‐ sponsored a ceasefire aimed at being a prelude to peace talks.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
although the intensity of fighting has calmed somewhat, violence continues across the country.

Pakistan Army launches 'Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad' across the country
[DAWN] Pakistain Army on Wednesday launched 'Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad' across the country, Inter-Services Public Relations, the army's media wing, said in a statement.

Radd-ul-Fasaad -- which translates roughly to 'elimination of discord' -- will aim at indiscriminately eliminating the "residual/latent threat of terrorism", consolidating the gains made in other military operations, and further ensuring the security of Pakistain's borders, read the statement.

Pakistain Air Force, Pakistain Navy, Civil Armed Forces (CAF) and other security and law enforcing agencies (LEAs) will actively participate in and 'intimately support' the armed forces' efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country, the statement added.

Military courts’ revival
[DAWN] THE desperately misguided quest of the PML-N government to revive military courts will continue today and, improbably, the government may be contriving to make a terrible situation worse. A parliamentary meeting has been brought forward and the government’s intense lobbying will now take place with news of a new military operation dominating the national discourse overnight. The government may try and bulldoze the principled and sensible parliamentary resistance among elements of the opposition, but what would be even more shocking is if the government makes a rumoured concession to the religious right on the issue. As reported in the media and openly acknowledged by the JUI-F in particular, the resistance on the religious right to military courts is not because the courts are anathema to the rule of law, but that they were instituted only for religiously inspired and sectarian Death Eaters. The religious right is demanding that if military courts are to be revived, no explicit reference is to be made to religion or sectarianism in the framework for the courts.

The context is vitally important. In the wake of the APS Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
attack, when the military leadership effectively forced parliament to give the army powers to try civilians for terrorism-related offences, the only resistance that parliament was able to put up was to keep the focus of military courts somewhat narrow -- permitting only the trial of so-called jet-black bandidos forces of Evil waging war in the name of religion or sectarianism. The explicit reference was introduced to prevent the military from expanding the use of the courts to other civilians deemed to be waging war on the state, such as the Baloch separatists. Perhaps the MQM too was concerned that, with the Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
operation still relatively new and allegations about the party’s links to India being aired publicly, political parties could be targeted by military courts. Other parties may have had similar concerns about legitimate political or regional struggles being caught in the fundamentally undemocratic pincers of the military courts.

It is vital to stress that military courts were a distortion of the Constitution and the rule of law that no democratic society ought to have inflicted on it. There is no scenario in which such courts are justifiable. But that does not mean military courts cannot be made even worse in practice. The government’s craven capitulation to the military would be compounded if it succumbs to political pressure from the religious right to exclude the specific references to religiously inspired or sectarian militancy in a revived framework for military courts. From a slippery slope to the floodgates opening, the changes being demanded by the religious right are unconscionable and have frightening implications. The PML-N government will be no less to blame if military courts are revived, especially in an expanded form. Consider what the government could have achieved if it had directed its lobbying efforts towards criminal justice reforms.

Iraq
Bomb kills 3 civilians escaping Islamic State in Kirkuk
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Three civilians were killed and six others were wounded in Salahuddin province on Wednesday when a bomb planted by the Islamic State exploded while they were trying to flee group-held areas in Kirkuk.

A security source in Salahuddin governorate told Alsumaria News that the civilians were escaping Islamic State-held areas in Kirkuk’s town of Hawija when an IED went off as they reached Hamreen mountains area in Salahuddin.

“There are families escaping through perilous routes everyday, with many of them killed and wounded,” according to the source.

Islamic State has blocked civilians’ exit from areas it took over in 2014, targeting those who attempted to flee with landmines or gunfire. It is believed that the extremist group uses civilians as human shields against government forces and allied militias seeking to retake areas occupied by the group.

Other occasional reports have, however, said IS would allow civilians to flee after paying money.

The group still maintains some pockets in southwestern Kirkuk and Salahuddin.

New Iraq oil find adds 1000 cubic meter daily production boost
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq announced on Wednesday a new major oil reserve discovery that could add a daily production surge of 1000 cubic meters.

Quoted by media, Karim Hattab, director-general at the Iraqi Oil Exploration Company, said exploratory drilling by Japanese oil firm INPEX and Russian firm Lukoil in the Mishrif horizon, in the southern province of Basra, found production potential worth 1000 cubic meters a day.

The newly-spotted discovery is located within an exploration site that had added ten million barrles to Iraq’s oil reserve, according to Hattab.

In a statement, INPEX, which holds a 40% participating interest in the field through INPEX South Iraq, Ltd., a subsidiary, said "as a result of this exploratory drilling campaign, INPEX and LUKOIL discovered a highly productive oil reservoir in the Mishrif horizon with a confirmed production volume capacity of more than 8,000 barrels per day from crude oil production tests that were subsequently conducted.

The statement added that "based on these results, INPEX and LUKOIL expect there will be a high probability of discovering a large oil field depending on the evaluation results of additional exploration activities."

Iraq is OPEC’s second largest oil producer, following Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
. It had pledged to cut 210.000 barrels of its daily production to 4.35 million barrels starting January in line with an historic OPEC members agreement reached in a Vienna meeting in December. It had previously been reluctant to take the move citing its terrorism-battered economy. OPEC took the move in an attempt to prop up falling oil prices.

#1  1000 cubic meters per day = 6290 barrels. A pretty good well or field that will likely taper off following initial production.

How Islamic State groomed child soldiers in a Mosul orphanage
[SCMP] The children, aged from three to 16 and mostly Shiite Moslems or minority Yazidis, began referring to their own families as apostates after they were schooled in Sunni Islam by the Lion of Islam fighters, he said.

The boys were separated from the girls and infants, undergoing indoctrination and training to become "cubs of the caliphate" ‐ a network of child informers and fighters used by the jihadists to support their military operations.

The complex in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
’s Zuhur district, which had been home to local orphans until they were kicked out by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, was one of several sites the jihadists used across the city.

It is now shuttered, its doors sealed with padlocks by Iraqi security forces.

Islamic State withdrew before Iraqi forces launched a US-backed offensive in October to retake the city, but during a visit last month there were still reminders of the group’s attempt to brainwash dozens of children.

A saying attributed to the Prophet Mohammed is painted in black on one wall, urging children to learn to swim, shoot and ride horses. Inside the building is a swimming pool, now dry and full of rubbish.

In another room sits a stack of textbooks Islamic State had amended to fit its brutal ethos.

Arithmetic problems in a fourth grade maths book use imagery of warfare, while the cover bears a rifle made up of equations. History books focus exclusively on the early years of Islam and emphasise martial events.

Another textbook entitled English for the Islamic State includes ordinary words like apple and ant beside army, bomb and sniper. Martyr, spy and mortar also appear alongside zebra crossing, yawn, and X-box.

The word "woman" is depicted by a formless black figure wearing the full niqab covering. All faces in the books ‐ even those of animals ‐ are blurred, in keeping with an Islamic proscription against such images.

The orphanage worker, who was cowed into staying on after the turbans took over in 2014, said girls who were brought to the centre were often married off to the group’s commanders.

The man asked not to be named for fear of reprisals by Islamic State, which still controls the entire western half of Mosul. He was shot in the leg during recent festivities.

He said the Lion of Islams, mostly Iraqis, taught the Shiite children how to pray in the tradition of Sunni Islam and forced the Yazidis to convert.

They memorised the Koran, were taught to treat outsiders as infidels and conducted physical exercise in the yard, which has since grown over.

A pair of colourful plastic slides and swing sets now sit untouched amid shattered glass, casings from a grenade launcher and a jacket wallah’s charred remains ‐ signs of the Lion of Islams’ fierce resistance as they retreated late last year.

Rooters could not independently verify the orphanage worker’s comments. But local residents gave similar accounts, and Islamic State has published numerous videos showing how it trains young fighters and even makes them execute prisoners.

New batches of children arrived at the Zuhur orphanage every few weeks from outside Mosul, including a few from neighbouring Syria, while older boys were sent to the town of Tel Afar west of Mosul for intensive military training for duties including with Islamic State’s courts or vice squad, residents said.

"After six months at the camps, some of the boys came back to spend a weekend with their younger brothers. They were wearing uniforms and carrying weapons," the orphanage worker said, fingering black and yellow prayer beads.

One of the boys, Mohammed, was killed last summer during the battle in the city of Falluja, west of Baghdad, he said, recounting how the other children wept upon learning the news.

A few weeks before the Mosul offensive began, Islamic State cancelled lessons and sent the boys to guard an airfield near Tel Afar which pro-government forces later seized, he said.

"I told them, ’If you see the army, drop your weapons and tell them you are orphans. Maybe they will spare your lives’".

Pence makes surprise visit to vandalized Jewish cemetery
Vice President Pence on Wednesday made a surprise visit to a historic Jewish cemetery near St. Louis to condemn the recent vandalism that took place there.
Anyone think Joe Biden would have done this?
“From the heart, there is no place in America for hatred or acts of prejudice or violence or anti-Semitism,” he said.

Pence called Missouri’s response to the incident “inspiring" while standing next to Eric Greitens (R), the state’s first Jewish governor.

Pence decried the vandalism as “a sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil” during a speech earlier Wednesday in St. Louis. After his remarks at the cemetery, the vice president and the governor listened to a prayer from a rabbi and then cleared brush with volunteers taking part in a beautification project.

Vandals toppled more than 100 headstones on Monday at the Chesed Shel Emeth Society cemetery in University City, a suburb of St. Louis. The incident added to questions about a rise in acts of anti-Semitism around the country.

The vandalism occurred on the same day that 11 Jewish community centers across the country received phoned-in bomb threats. The calls, which have all turned out to be hoaxes, have targeted 54 community centers in 27 states so far this year. Federal investigators are looking into the threats.

President Trump on Tuesday condemned the anti-Semitic acts after coming under pressure from Jewish groups, who criticized his previous response to the incidents as lackluster.

“Anti-Semitism is horrible and it’s going to stop and it has to stop,” Trump told MSNBC during a tour of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Yesterday I added an update to the story about JK Rowling tweeting about Muslims raising funds for repairing the gravestones. What my update failed to mention is that the Muslims raising funds are not just moderate Muslims, but genuine Jew-hating, Hamas-supporting BDS activists. See here. Even CAIR (!!!) is getting in on the act, offering a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the idiot calling in bomb hoaxes to Jewish community centers.

They really, really don't want to be listed as terror-supporting organizations.

Trump to rescind transgender bathroom rules from Obama era
[BBC] The Trump administration will rescind guidance enacted by his predecessor in favour of transgender students, the White House has said.

The Obama-era rule directed public schools to allow transgender pupils to use toilets of their gender identity. But critics said that guidance was government overreach which threatened other students' privacy and safety.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said Mr Trump firmly believes "this is a states' rights issue".

"I would expect further guidance to come out on that today," he told a news conference.

Though the Obama-era order will be rescinded, anti-bullying safeguards are expected to remain in place, the AP news agency reported, citing a government official.

India-Pakistan
The roots of savagery
[DAWN] ACCORDING to the high priests of public morality, many normal Paks have become so heartless that they rape and kill little girls or sell deadly poison under the label of essential drugs, or foodstuffs -- because the moral order has collapsed. But they are unlikely to offer this explanation for the recent carnage in Sehwan.

Such simplistic answers prevent identification of the material factors contributing to the wave of savagery in the country and make remedial action difficult, if not impossible.

The foremost cause of the rise of beastliness in society is that the law has ceased to be a deterrent to crime. The state’s effort to meet this situation by making penalties for offences harsher misses the point that the majesty of the law rests not so much on punishments as it does on the public belief that nobody can escape paying for his misdeeds. In today’s Pakistain, most wrongdoers believe they can get away with anything.

Pro-Kurdish party: Erdogan’s government trying to intimidate us ahead of referendum
[ARA] Co-chairs of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag faced increasing pressures on Tuesday, with Demirtas being sentenced to a prison sentence of five months, while Yuksekdag was stripped of her status as a member of parliament ahead of the Turkish presidential referendum in April.

The HDP said that ongoing arrests of its members since the failed coup in July 2016 are part of an attempt by the government of President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
to exclude the Kurds from the referendum.

"The revocation of HDP Co-Chair Figen Yuksekdag’s membership in parliament as a fait accompli is unacceptable. The revoking of her position in parliament once again tramples the constitution, and it is an effort to give the government’s political decision the appearance of legality," the Central Executive Board of the HDP said.

"The Erdogan-AKP government is trying to overcome its own political deadlock as well as The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s social and economic crisis by violating the law and attacking the HDP. It has become clear that the Erdogan-AKP government will not be able to attain the referendum results they expect within the context of this crisis, so they are once again resorting to the same foul methods they’ve used in the past," the HDP said.

"This mentality, which sees all manner of breaking the law as legitimate, continues to make preparations for a state of lawlessness following the referendum," the HDP added.

According to the HDP, the revoking of its co-chair Figen Yuksekdag’s MP status is an attempt to intimidate the party and the Kurdish people.

"We have not knelt down or given in against these attacks until this day. Just to spite those who try to intimidate us with repression, police custodies and arrests, we will continue to say ’NO’ with full force. We continue our struggle with our co-chair Figen Yuksekdag’s words ’We will still not give in! We will be the bane, the curse, the end of the coup-dictate regime’. We will definitely be the ones who will win," the HDP said.

Turkey is expected to hold a referendum on a stronger presidency on April 16. The Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the HDP oppose the referendum and are campaigning for a ’no vote’, while the ultranationalist Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Erdogan’s AKP are in favour of a yes vote.

Malaysian police want to question Nork diplomat over Kim Jong-nam assassination
[SCMP] Detectives probing the liquidation of Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
’s half-brother want to question a North Korean diplomat, Malaysia’s top policeman said on Wednesday.

Investigators have put five North Koreans in the frame for last week’s brazen killing of Kim Jong-nam at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and have said they are seeking three more for questioning.

They include the embassy’s second secretary, Hyon Kwang-song, as well as a North Korean airline employee called Kim Uk-il, Khalid Abu Bakar told news hounds.

"We have written to the ambassador to allow us to interview both of them. We hope that the Korean embassy will cooperate with us and allow us to interview them quickly. If not, we will compel them to come to us," he said.

Investigators also revealed that attempts were made to break into the morgue where Jong-nam’s body is being held, casting further suspicion on Pyongyang’s role in the killing.

"We knew there were attempts by someone to break into the hospital mortuary. We had to take precautions. We will not allow anyone to tamper with the mortuary," Khalid said.

Jong-nam died on February 13 after being attacked as he waited for a plane to Macau.

Leaked CCTV footage from the airport shows the chubby 45-year-old being approached by two women, one of whom grabs him from behind and appears to shove a cloth in his face.

Moments later Jong-nam is seen seeking help from airport staff, who direct him to a clinic, where he apparently slumped in a chair.

Malaysian police say he suffered a seizure and died before he reached hospital, seemingly from the effects of a toxin.

Seoul has said from the start that Pyongyang was behind the murder, citing a "standing order" from Jong-un to kill his elder sibling, and a failed liquidation bid in 2012.

Asked whether the five North Korean suspects had criminal masterminded the attack, Khalid said he believed they were "heavily involved" in the murder.

Four of the men fled the country on the day of the killing and returned to Pyongyang, he said, while one remains in jug in Malaysia.

Iraq
Western Mosul Offensive News

PMUs launch new phase of offensives on western Mosul’s Tal Afar

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) have announced a new phase of operations targeting the liberation of the Islamic State western Mosul stronghold of Tal Afar, and recaptured two villages upon starting.

The PMU’s media service said in a statement that the force launched a sixth phase of operations targeting areas south of the strategic town. It said the forces took over the villages of Kharabat al-Jeheish and al-Sharia. The troops also invaded Ein al-Tallawi village under an aerial bombardment from Iraqi jets, killing a suicide bomber and destroying a booby-trapped vehicle. IS fighters attempted to stymie the troops advances with booby-trapped herds of sheep, according to al-Hashd’s media.

The Iraqi government declared last Sunday it launched a new, decisive stage of operations against Islamic State in western Mosul, having retaken the eastern region late January after three months of battles.

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, a conglomerate of Shia volunteer militias, have been actively fighting Islamic State militants on the Iraqi government’s side since the group emerged in 2014 to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq.

Peshmerga not involved in western Mosul battles: ministry

Erbil (IraqiNews.com) Kurdistan’s army forces (Peshmerga) are not partaking in the Iraqi forces’ battle against Islamic State in western Mosul, its ministry has said.

Jabbar Yawar, secretary-general of the Peshmerga Ministry, told Bas News that the force maintains deployment at regions it had recaptured earlier from Islamic State militants. He added that no agreement had been made with the government in Baghdad regarding participation in western Mosul battles which, he said, are solely led by Iraqi forces.

Western-trained and armed Peshmerga forces had fought on the Iraqi government’s side in the operations in eastern Mosul which launched in October and ended with the retaking of the region late January. Iraqi troops, backed by an air and ground backing from a U.S.-led military coalition, began Sunday a new offensive to retake the western region, IS’s last major bastion in Iraq.

A controversy emerged after the launch of operations in October as Kurdish officials insisted to maintain areas recaptured by Peshmerga as Kurdish territory, while Baghdad reiterated that Kurdish troops were required to withdraw from those regions.

Kurdistan gained autonomous governance based on the 2005 constitution, but is still considered a part of Iraq. The region was created in 1970 based on an agreement with the Iraqi government, ending years of fierce fighting.

Iraqi forces move towards Mosul airport, biggest mass grave found

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces moved Wednesday towards Mosul Airport in the western side of the city, one day after commanders said intense bombing forced Islamic State militants to evacuate the facility.

Mawazin news website quoted military sources saying that joint forces from the Federal Police and Rapid Response squads moved toward the airport early Wednesday, backed by an aerial and artillery cover from the U.S.-led international military coalition.

The source said special bomb squads are leading the advances to defuse landmines planted by the extremist group on the way to the airport.

Alsumaria News quoted local sources as saying that intense airstrikes since early Wednesday eliminated an entire convoy of ten Islamic State vehicles laden with weapons and fighters. The sources added that the group executed nine members for failures and collapses in its defense lines at the nearby Ghizlani camp.

On Tuesday, news reports quoted Federal Police chief, Shaker Jawdat, as saying that intense bombardment on the airport had killed dozens of IS fighters and forced the group to withdraw from the facility. The forces had captured the al-Bouseif hills overlooking the airport and invaded the Ghizlani military camp which stretches nearby.

The Iraqi government declared Sunday it had launched a new, decisive stage of operations against Islamic State in western Mosul, having retaken the eastern region late January after three months of battles. Mosul is IS’s largest urban stronghold in Iraq, and its recapture would be critical in ending the group’s existence in Iraq.

Meanwhile, Iranian news channel al-Alam’s website said Wednesday Iraqi forces ran into a mass grave containing 2400 dead bodies at Arghanti village in southern Mosul. The website said the forces were working with experts to identify the deceased.

Several mass graves of civilians and security personnel executed by IS extremists have been found since government troops launched operations in October to retake Mosul.

IS issue death warrant for fleeing leader, alarmed by hostile graffiti

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The Islamic State has issued a death warrant for a senior leader who escaped battles against security forces in Mosul Airport, and alerted members over hostile graffiti painted in streets in the western region.

A local source told Alsumaria News on Wednesday that Islamic State ordered members to kill “Abu Osama” once found. He was the organization official at al-Ghizlani military camp, a strategic IS bastion which Iraqi government forces invaded on Tuesday.

A source had told Alsumaria News earlier on Wednesday that IS already executed nine members over collapses in the group’s defense lines in Ghizlani.

Meanwhile, another local source told Alsumaria News that IS members invaded three districts in western Mosul, including Islah al-Zerai, after they found hostile graffiti directed against the group and painted on the walls at some streets.

“Death to Daesh (IS), down with the Islamic State,” read some of the phrases, said the source, who revealed that the group arrested 20 people in relation to the incident.

36 IS members killed in western, southern Mosul strikes, including mayor

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Airstrikes on Islamic State locations in southern and western Mosul left 35 members killed on Wednesday, including a regional mayor, according to military sources.

Colonel Khodeir Saleh, from the Federal Police service, told Bas News that 35 Islamic State extremists were killed in an artillery and airstrikes by jets and cannons from the U.S.-led coalition in southern Mosul. He did not name the exact location of the strikes, but added that they coincided with other strikes at the Mosul Airport, a major IS stronghold targeted by Iraqi forces.

Meanwhile, al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said through its media service that Iraqi fighter jets killed the Islamic State’s so-called “wali” (governor) of the town of Tal Afar, Mostafa Youssef, when they bombarded the village of Ein Tallawi in western Mosul.

Islamic State drone kills 5 civilians, 5 militants arrested in eastern Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A weaponized drone guided by Islamic State militants killed five civilians in eastern Mosul, while five group members were arrested there on Wednesday, according to security sources.

Anadolu Agency quoted Brig. Gen. Mohamed al-Bostani, from the army’s 16th division, saying that an advanced drone dropped two rockets on al-Rashidiya, northeast of Mosul, killing five civilians and wounding three others.

Bostani said the situation in eastern Mosul, which Iraqi forces recaptured from IS late January, was still “unstable” and in need for more intelligence and security effort.

Since recapturing eastern Mosul, Islamic State militants attacked liberated areas in the west with drones and sneaking militants, killing several civilians and security personnel. Iraqi officials have also voiced fears that dormant IS cells in those areas could pose a security threat.

Shafaq news website quoted a security source on Wednesday saying that five Islamic State militants were arrested in al-Zharaa district. They were found inside a house whose owners migrated to refugee camps.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Birg. Gen. Abdulaziz al-Na’as, from the army’s 9th division, said the supreme security command ordered his division and Federal Police forces to halt their advances towards residential areas in western Mosul fearing losses in personnel and equipment.

He said orders were given to focus on the liberation of Mosul Airport and the adjacent Ghizlani military camp.

Federal Police announces evacuating 480 IDPs west of Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Federal Police Command announced on Wednesday evacuating 480 displaced persons from al-Yarmouk Village, west of Mosul.

The command said in a brief statement, “480 displaced persons were evacuated from al-Yarmouk Village, and transferred to the liberated southern villages.”

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi cut off main road between Mosul and Tal Afar

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Al-Hashd al-Shaabi announced on Wednesday cutting off the main road linking between the city of Mosul and Tal Afar District, west of the city, while pointed out that its forces are participating in the battles to liberate western Mosul.

Spokesman for al-Hashd al-Shaabi, Ahmed al-Asadi, said in a speech during a press conference in Baghdad, “We don’t expect the battle to be neither easy nor short, and the blessings of our martyrs and casualties allow us to achieve victories.”

“Security forces cut off the main road linking between Tal Afar and the city of Mosul, while the 26th brigade arrived in the village of al-Sahaji to secure this road,” Asadi explained.

“The 26th brigade of al-Hashd al-Shaabi is participating in the battle to liberate western Mosul,” Asadi further added.

Conservative provocateur targets CNN with secret recordings
[CNN] Conservative provocateur James O'Keefe is setting his sights on CNN.

O'Keefe said in a telephone interview with CNN on Wednesday that he has "a few hundred hours" of "secretly recorded material" from inside the network. "We're calling it CNN Leaks," he said, drawing inspiration from WikiLeaks' document dumps.

He said "part one" would be published Thursday at about 10 a.m. ET. "This is all legally recorded information," he said, declining to be more specific.

Asked why CNN is one of his targets, he said, "My audience, the American people, are deeply upset at the media." He cited President Trump's critiques of "fake news."

"We think our media needs to be held to account, and CNN is kind of the leader of that. CNN has a very important role as an arbiter of news," he said.

Beyond just CNN, "the media is a huge target of mine right now," O'Keefe said.

"We have a dozen investigations going on, which is one of the reasons I don't have time to go through hundreds of hours of tape," he added.

So the "raw information" will be posted, calling to mind WikiLeaks' dumps of stolen emails from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta last fall.
Update at 10:30 a.m.: The Project Veritas leaks page is here. They're asking for help transcribing the tapes, but there seems to be a glitch in the upload. The twitter feed about it is here.
Update #2 at 1:48: A better Veritas leaks page is here. He has tapes going back to 2009 -- talk about patience!

Mexico real, real unhappy at Trump deportation rules
Mexico clenched its tiny fists reacted with anger on Wednesday to what one official called "hostile" new U.S. immigration guidelines hours before senior Trump administration envoys began arriving in Mexico City for talks on the volatile issue.
Their 'unhappiness' clearly indicates the plan is working.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security unveiled plans on Tuesday to consider almost all illegal immigrants subject to deportation, and will seek to send many of them to Mexico if they entered the United States from there, regardless of nationality. The tension over the timing of the rules mirrors an outcry when President Donald Trump tweeted that Mexico should pay for his planned border wall shortly before Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto was due at a Washington summit in January.
One way or the other Mexico is going to be on the hook...
Trump, who took office last month, campaigned on a pledge to get tougher on the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States, playing on fears of violent crime while promising to build the wall and stop potential terrorists from entering the country.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson landed in Mexico City on Wednesday afternoon. He was due to be joined by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly later for talks the White House said would "walk through" the implementation of Trump's immigration orders. Kelly signed the guidelines issued by his department on Monday.

Mexico's lead negotiator with the Trump administration, Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray, said there was no way Mexico would accept the new rules, which among other things seek to deport non-Mexicans to Mexico.

"I want to say clearly and emphatically that the government of Mexico and the Mexican people do not have to accept provisions that one government unilaterally wants to impose on the other," he told reporters at the Foreign Ministry.
I don't recall that you have much choice. This is an internal matter for us. We'll park the people on your side of the bridge there in Brownsville. The rest is up to you.
He said the issue would dominate the talks, taking place on Wednesday and Thursday. Mexico will insist that the United States proves the nationality of any person it wants to deport to Mexico, he said.

"We also have control of our borders and we will exercise it fully," he said, adding that Mexico was prepared to go the United Nations to defend the freedoms and rights of Mexicans under international law.
I don't recall international law giving Mexicans the right to immigrate illegally into the U.S., but perhaps I'm missing some codicil or something...
Roberto Campa, who heads the human rights department of the Interior Ministry, said the plan to deport non-Mexicans to Mexico was "hostile" and "unacceptable."

Senators for the leading leftist opposition party, the Party of the Democratic Revolution, said Tillerson and Kelly were not welcome in the country and they urged Pena Nieto not to meet with them.
Ok. We'll fly our people home. Deportations begin Monday...
In Washington, White House spokesman Sean Spicer described U.S.-Mexico ties as healthy and robust and said he expected a "great discussion."

"I think the relationship with Mexico is phenomenal right now," Spicer told reporters.
That's called burying the shiv...
Homeland Security's guidance to immigration agents is part of a broader border security and immigration enforcement plan in executive orders that the Republican president signed on Jan. 25.

In Guatemala on Wednesday, Kelly told Guatemalans the immigration crackdown ordered by Trump meant undocumented immigrants would be caught and sent back quickly, advising them to stay at home. He denied the administration was embarking on mass deportations.

Mexico's agenda at the talks on Thursday includes border infrastructure, deportation strategies, Central American migration, narcotics, arms trafficking and terrorism, and the North American Free Trade Agreement, a senior official with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

Time for Mexico to create a CCC type plan and employ their people to pave a superhighway system and fix up the regional highways.

ADL headquarters receives bomb threat in latest scare
[IsraelTimes] The New York headquarters of the Anti-Defamation League received a bomb threat on Wednesday morning, the latest Jewish institution to be targeted in a wave of similar scares.

ADL head Jonathan Greenblatt said that the organization treated the anonymous threat seriously, but law enforcement found it to be "not credible."

"This is not the first time that ADL has been targeted, and it will not deter us in our efforts to combat anti-Semitism and hate against people of all races and religions," Greenblatt said in a statement.

On Tuesday, another hoax bomb threat was emailed to a Jewish center in San Diego.

The threat against the ADL comes days after at least 10 Jewish community centers were hit with bomb threats, forcing many of them to evacuate. In all, there have been some 60 threats against dozens of Jewish community centers around the country since January.
.
This was the first threat against the ADL.

Trump said earlier Tuesday that anti-Semitic threats to the American Jewish community were “horrible” and “painful,” as well as a “sad reminder” of evil

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Islamic State affiliate in Sinai claims rocket fire on Israel
[IsraelTimes] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
affiliate in the Sinai Peninsula took responsibility on Tuesday night for firing two rockets into Israel a day earlier.

The terror group posted photos on Twitter showing jihadists preparing the projectiles for launch.

The two rockets, which struck an open field in southern Israel and did not cause any damage or injuries, were fired shortly after the group accused Israel of killing five of its operatives in an Arclight airstrike Saturday.

In a statement on social media, the group said it had fired two Katyusha rockets at "southern Paleostine," according to the Walla news site.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman on Monday dismissed the threat posed by the Islamic State terror organization’s affiliate in the Sinai Peninsula. Liberman said that while IS in Sinai is "annoying" and "hindersome," it does not possess the means to pose a serious threat to Israel’s security.

"If you are talking about Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", and Hezbollah, then [IS’s Sinai force] is not even a terror group," he told Army Radio, describing the group’s capabilities as "random [amateurs] who decide to build themselves an army."

"We need to see everything in proportion," he added.

Asked if Israel was behind the Saturday Arclight airstrike in the Sinai, Liberman responded sarcastically.

"Like always, the special forces of Lichtenstein probably took out a few bandidos hard boyz from ISIS in Sinai," he said, using the Arabic name for the Islamic State. "We do not let anything go without a response," he declared.

Baghdad Bomb & Bullet Bulletin

One volunteer security agent killed in Baghdad checkpoint attack

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A volunteer security agent was killed and another was wounded on Wednesday when armed attackers shot at a checkpoint south of Baghdad.

A police source told Alsumaria News that a member of al-Sahwa (Awakening) was killed and another injured when unknown gunmen attacked their checkpoint in al-Doura, south of the capital.

Al-Sahwa Councils were Sunni militias formed following the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 to combat al-Qaeda.

Nobody has claimed responsibility yet for the assault, but IS militants have said they had been responsible for several bloody explosions and attacks that hit the capital in the past months, bringing the governorate municipal and security officials under critics’ fire.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said violence in the country left nearly 382 dead, including security members, and 908 injured during January. Baghdad was the most affected province with 128 deaths and 444 injuries, according to the organization.

Islamic State execute two Iraqi army officers in new video
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants have released a new graphic video showing militants executing two Iraqi army officers, the first since Iraqi forces began a successful push Sunday to retake the group’s last strongholds in Mosul.

The two officers had disappeared from al-Nakhib area in Anbar province a month earlier, according to Russia Today.

The first officer was Abbas al-Samarrai, who had been reported missing by his family. He was beheaded by the militants as the video reportedly showed.

The second one’s name was not mentioned in the video, but he was shown lying into a hole in the ground and shot by a firing squad. He had probably been forced to dig the hole himself, as Islamic State habit went in past executions.

Since it occupied large areas of Iraq in 2014, Islamic State has posted videos of heinous executions of civilians, security personnel, and foreign workers over multiple charges, most commonly collaboration with security authorities as well as violation of its extreme religious rules. Reports say the group has even executed many of its own members for slacking in the battlefield or escaping encounters with Iraqi forces which had launched a major campaign last October to retake Mosul.

ICE Captures Undocumented Immigrant Wanted For Chopping Up 2 Men With Machete
[LAW & NEWZ] U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement special agents announced the arrest in North Carolina of an at-large fugitive alien wanted for the brutal machete murder of two men back in Honduras.

According to a statement, ICE special agents captured and arrested Francisco Escobar-Orellana at his home in North Carolina as part of a targeted operation run by ICE Homeland Security Investigations teams. Escobar is wanted in his home country of Honduras for allegedly brutally slaying two men to death with a machete at a liquor store more than 20-years-ago in 1993.

Investigators say they do not know exactly when Escobar managed to illegally enter the United States, but it is now almost a sure thing that he’ll be heading back to Honduras to face justice for the 1993 killings.

"ICE is focused on identifying, arresting and removing public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, as well as individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws," ERO Atlanta Field Office Director Sean Gallagher told reporters after the operation. "ICE Fugitive Operations Teams conduct targeted enforcement operations toward these identified threats to public safety. North Carolina residents are safer today thanks to the professionalism and hard work of these dedicated officers."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria war: Arab-Kurdish fighters enter IS-held Deir al-Zour province
[BBC] A US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab rebels has advanced into territory held by so-called Islamic State (IS) in Deir al-Zour province, eastern Syria.

Kurdish military sources said the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had captured some 15 villages from IS.

Unidentified air strikes killed 11 people in one IS-held village, though it was unclear if this was linked.

The SDF hopes to cut IS's supply lines from the oil-rich province to the group's stronghold Raqqa, in the north.
Syrian government forces in Deir al-Zour have also been battling to push out IS, which commands most of the province as well as its capital of the same name.

The latest development comes just days before UN-sponsored talks between the Syrian government and opposition in Geneva, Switzerland - the first such meeting in nearly a year.

India-Pakistan
Five militants killed in Tirah air strikes
[DAWN] LANDI KOTAL: At least five suspected gunnies were killed when fighter jets of the Pakistain Air Force pounded their hideouts in the Tirah valley in Khyber Agency
... the place to go if you've got an Indiana Jones hat and whip. Chock full of high adventure and treacherous Pathans. You should really train up to it, though...
on Wednesday.

Military sources said that following a tip-off about the presence of gunnies in the region, the fighter jets carried out the strikes in the forested area of Rajgal, which is close to the Afghan border.

They said that five suspected gunnies were killed and at least three of their hideouts destroyed in the strikes. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the claims could not be independently verified because media have no access to the remote area.

Officials of the political administration in Landi Kotal said a majority of the people of the Loe Shalman area who had been forced to vacate their houses begun returning home after calm returned to the border areas.

They said there had been no artillery shelling since Monday and people displaced from Shalman Khula, Narai, Samsai and Sheen Pokh begun returning to their neighbourhoods.

The officials had said on Tuesday that as many as 180 families had been declared displaced after they had been directed to vacate their houses on Saturday.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory the smoke and fumes had dispersed, to reveal an ominous sight...
authorities at the Torkham border crossing deported at least 13 Afghan nationals to Afghanistan.

The officials said they were caught while trying to enter Pakistain without legal travel documents.
