Presidential Payback For Media Hubris
H/T Instapundit
Donald Trump conducted a press conference recently as if he were a loud circus ringmaster whipping the media circus animals into shape. The establishment thought the performance was a window into an unhinged mind; half the country thought it was a long overdue media comeuppance.

The media suffer the lowest approval numbers in nearly a half-century. In a recent Emerson College poll, 49 percent of American voters termed the Trump administration "truthful"; yet only 39 percent believed the same about the news media.

Every president needs media audit. The role of journalists in a free society is to act as disinterested censors of government power--neither going on witch-hunts against political opponents nor deifying ideological fellow-travelers.

Sadly, the contemporary mainstream media--the major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN), the traditional blue-chip newspapers (Washington Post, New York Times), and the public affiliates (NPR, PBS)--have lost credibility. They are no more reliable critics of President Trump’s excesses than they were believable cheerleaders for Barack Obama’s policies.

Trump may have a habit of exaggeration and gratuitous feuding that could cause problems with his presidency. But we would never quite know that from the media. In just his first month in office, reporters have already peddled dozens of fake news stories designed to discredit the President--to such a degree that little they now write or say can be taken at face value.

Hhgregg closing 88 stores, including six in Illinois
[Chicago Tribune] Electronics retailer Hhgregg will close 40 percent of its stores as it works to stem the red ink and turn around slow sales.

The 88 store closings include Hhgregg's Schaumburg, Bloomingdale, Arlington Heights, Niles, Springfield and Champaign locations, the company said in a news release Thursday. The Indianapolis-based retailer is also closing three distribution centers in Maryland, Florida and Pennsylvania.

The retailer has 12 other stores in Illinois.

Hhgregg President and CEO Robert Riesbeck said the closing stores are unprofitable or located in areas that are no longer shopping destinations.
Schaumburg, Bloomingdale, Arlington Heights, Niles, say whaaaa ?
"We feel strongly that the markets we will remain in are the right ones for our customers and our business model. Our team is dedicated to moving forward and being a profitable 132 store, multiregional chain where we will continue to be a dominant force in appliances, electronics and home furnishings," he said.

The 88 stores are expected to close by mid-April, eliminating about 1,500 jobs, Hhgregg said.

Hhgregg said last month it hired a financial adviser and investment banker to pursue a range of potential strategic and financial transactions to help it find ways to get back to profitability.

#2  U.S. retailers have a "ridiculous" problem

When Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren appeared on CNBC last week to discuss his company’s plans to shutter 100 stores, he noted that the U.S. has a “ridiculous” amount of retail space, equaling about 7.3 square feet per capita. That’s well in excess of the 1.7 square feet per capita in Japan and France, and the U.K.’s 1.3 square feet.

Indeed, retail industry observers have argued for years that the U.S. is “overstored,” and as more shopping shifts online, the costs of maintaining brick-and-mortar stores will prove too much for many chains. The problem, years in the making, is getting only worse, according to retail analysts.

“The U.S. is the most overstored it’s ever been,” said Jan Rogers Kniffen, an independent retail industry analyst.

#5  A big part of the problem is anaylists who have never worked in an actual retail store. This Christmas my chain could not get stock out of China. Hatchimals, Nintendo, cameras, amazon fire sticks, etc. Toys all came in dribbles because we had to air freight them. Then the "analysts" and their MBA kin decided online would get priority in stock. I turned away thousands in sales every day from Black Friday until Christmas BECAUSE WE HAD NO STOCK OR ANY HOPE OF GETTING ANY. It is March and we are still waiting for November replenishment. Thanks China. But Christmas trees will be cheap.
If the analysts were so smart, why aren't they living in The Hamptons watching their servants peel grapes.

Europe
Erik Prince Discusses Libya And Europe's Migrant Crisis (Video)
[Feral Jundi] This is excellent and Erik Prince did a great job defending his former company in this interview with Becky Anderson. What I thought was very interesting was the discussion of Libya and the immigration crisis plaguing Europe right now.

I would agree with Erik that the EU does not have the political will to do what is necessary in Libya to actually lock down it’s borders. But one point needs to be made when it comes to PMSC’s in Libya‐they are already there. Europe’s oil interests in Libya have required security in one form or another for years now. I wrote about all sorts of security related stories in Libya starting in 2011, so it should be no shock to any observer of that conflict that industry has provided services there, or has ’offered’ solutions to frustrated clients. Hell, the CEO of a major French PMSC, Secopex, was killed in Libya.

I would also argue that any security plan like this, should also be coupled with a grand strategic plan for Libya. The border might be squared away under a contract like this, but that will not remove the cause of why people are wanting to leave. The war needs to end there, and reconstruction along with the rule of law needs to be reestablished if they want to stop this migrant crisis. Security on the border is just one piece to a plan like that. But private industry can provide a solution for that.

The other thing that was interesting in this interview was the mention of Erik and the Trump administration.(he is a supporter) The question was posed wether the new administration will be good for the PMSC industry. At 06:58, this is where the video get’s interesting. "Is Libya a quick win for a Trump administration?" the interviewer asks, and I will let the reader check out what Erik had to say....

Colin Kaepernick won't protest during national anthem during 2017 season
"Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest won’t carry over into next season, USA TODAY Sports confirmed Thursday.

Kaepernick, who is expected to opt out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers, either sat or kneeled while The Star-Spangled Banner was played before Niners games last season, a protest meant to draw attention to racial inequality and police brutality. He will discontinue his public protest in 2017, wherever he plays next season, a person with knowledge of Kaepernick's plans told USA TODAY Sports' Tom Pelissero.

The person requested anonymity because Kaepernick has not yet made his decision public.

Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the anthem was adopted by several other NFL players and athletes in other professional sports leagues. It led some to boycott the NFL, which potentially contributed to the league’s 8% decline in ratings last year.

Kaepernick said last September that he had received death threats in the days after he began his protest in the preseason.

ESPN was the first to report that Kaepernick would end his national anthem boycott."

I suspect Mr. Kaepernick will find that de-crapping a ricebowl is harder than crapping it.

Law enforcement struggles to hunt down caller behind JCC threats
[IsraelTimes] Investigators say person making threats is using masking technology, may be abroad and working.

US law enforcement officials reportedly believe bomb threats targeting Jewish institutions across the country are being made by a single person, possibly abroad, using "spoofing" technology.

On Monday, 29 Jewish institutes were evacuated after receiving phone calls threatening that explosives had been placed within the buildings, in the fifth wave of such threats since the beginning of the year.

Federal Sherlocks are coordinating with local police forces in an attempt to trace those behind the threats.

They believe that the callers used spoofing technology, which makes a call appear to come from another source, making it more difficult to trace, Buzzfeed reported Wednesday.

FBI officials relayed this initial conclusion to Paul Goldenberg, national director of the Secure Community Network, which advises Jewish organizations.

Goldenberg told Buzzfeed that those behind the threats "are leveraging technologies that have made the investigation more challenging."

On Monday, CBS cited a law enforcement official who said that the threats appeared to be coordinated. He also said that the calls were received from both within the US and from abroad.

On Tuesday, The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
quoted a federal law enforcement official who said that a single person using an internet calling service may be behind the threats. The newspaper said many analysts and researchers share that theory.

The calls are apparently made using voice-masking technology that protects the caller’s identity, as heard in a recording of a threat obtained by JTA.

According to The New York Times, in one case near Milwaukee, an operator asked the caller questions and received responses, indicating at least some of the calls are not recorded.

No actual bombs have been found at any of the dozens of institutions that have received bomb threats in recent weeks.

"The goal of these people is to wear us down," Goldenberg said. "But we are back in our schools, we are back in our JCCs."

Goldenberg said the Jewish institutions are "behaving in an exemplary manner" in the wake of the threats.

"Our Jewish schools and our JCCs continue to train for this, continue to execute well-placed measures," he said, going on to praise the staffs of US Jewish institutions as "vigilant."

In his long-awaited speech to both Houses of Congress on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said the recurrent bomb threats to Jewish institutions and desecration of Jewish cemeteries were a reminder "of our nation’s path toward civil rights and the work that remains."

"Recent threats targeting Jewish community centers and vandalism of Jewish cemeteries, as well as last week’s shooting in Kansas City, remind us that while we may be a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all its forms," said Trump, who was noticeably more subdued and conciliatory than during his previous speeches and pressers.

Florida Muslim students send flowers to Jewish synagogues
CAIR's student arms publicize themselves making useless gesture.
[IsraelTimes] After cemeteries attacked and amid bomb threats, the Muslim Student Associations of Florida State and Florida A&M universities deliver bouquets to three Tallahassee synagogues, saying ‘it is important we stand together’.
A mixed message: "Please don't hurt us" and "No, of course it's not a bomb."
“Keeping up with the news lately has shown a plethora of very sad stories and hateful crimes against many minority groups,” FSU Muslim Student Association President Moneba Anees wrote in an email to the Tallahassee-Democrat newspaper. “Although we could not think of a way to help our Jewish friends and peers directly, we decided that we could show them that people are taking note of what is happening and that they have our support, love and prayers.”

Philadelphia unions to repair, secure vandalized Jewish cemetery
Useful gestures from solid citizens.
[IsraelTimes] Two labor groups say they will replace headstones and install lighting, as offers to help pour in.

Bobby Henon, a Philadelphia City Council member with union ties who represents the Wissinoming neighborhood, tweeted Monday evening that the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council offered to replace the toppled headstones and that the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 98 offered to install additional lighting and security cameras.

Labor leader John Dougherty of the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council told reporters that the vandalism is a “cowardly act of anti-Semitism that cannot be tolerated.” His workers also offered to re-sod and clean the cemetery grounds.

Meanwhile, a Gofundme campaign for the Philadelphia cemetery launched by a private citizen, Raphael Caroline, 31, in the hours after the vandalism was discovered has raised nearly $20,000 in 24 hours, double its original goal.

The Jewish Federation of Philadelphia announced that a volunteer cleanup of the cemetery will begin at noon Tuesday and run every day from noon to 4 p.m.

Muslim veterans offer to guard Jewish sites across US

[IsraelTimes] Amid uptick in anti-Semitic incidents including bomb threats, grave desecration, Muslim tweets signal readiness to help.
It looks self-organized and propagating
On Monday, a Muslim man who started an online fundraising campaign for a Florida mosque damaged in an arson attempt said that many of the donors to the campaign, which raised $60,000, were Jewish.

“I couldn’t understand why people were donating in what seemed like weird amounts to the cause. There are sums of 18, 36, 72.00 dollars etc. then I figured out after clicking on the names Avi, Cohen, Gold-stein, Rubin, Fisher…. Jews donate in multiples of 18 as a form of what is called ‘Chai’. It wishes the recipient a long life,” Adeel Karim, a member of the Islamic Society of New Tampa wrote Monday in a Facebook post. “The Jewish faith has shown up in force to support our New Tampa Islamic community. I’m floored.”

ValJar moves into Obamas' house
h/t Instapundit
[DailyMail] Barack Obama is turning his new home in the posh Kalorama section of the nation's capital - just two miles away from the White House - into the nerve center of the mounting insurgency against his successor, President Donald J. Trump.

Obama's goal, according to a close family friend, is to oust Trump from the presidency either by forcing his resignation or through his impeachment.

And Obama is being aided in his political crusade by his longtime consigliere, Valerie Jarrett, who has moved into the 8,200-square-foot, $5.3-million Kaloroma mansion with the former president and Michelle Obama, long time best friends.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Foreign Mil Sales smell-test Update: IOMAX's 'Archangel' aircraft and L-3 contract award
[Breitbart] WASHINGTON D.C. -- A giant defense firm may be passing off another company’s equipment as its own, which could have played a role in a potentially corrupt U.S. arms sale to Kenya that the State Department approved on the Obama administration’s last day in office.

Breitbart News has obtained photos of L-3 Technologies using marketing materials at a recent international defense conference featuring a small plane produced by IOMAX USA, Inc., a small, disabled-veteran owned company based in North Carolina.
Look Geoffrey, that's our bloody Archangel! Quick Sid, get a few close ups.
The photos show an L-3 banner and poster at their booth at the 2017 International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in February featuring IOMAX’s "Archangel" aircraft -- an armed crop-duster-like aircraft used by U.S. partner militaries for border patrol, surveillance, and close air support.

L-3 passing off the aircraft as its own could potentially explain how it got exclusive approval for a lucrative $418 million contract to produce 14 such planes for the Kenya Defense Forces, despite never having produced the planes before and IOMAX’s ability to produce them for much cheaper.
Yes, we cut a few corners, but aren't our contract graphics people simply amazing.
Breitbart News provided a photo of the banner to L-3 and requested clarification.

"L-3 has declined to respond to your inquiry," a spokeswoman said.
Banner? What Banner ?
How L-3 was able to get the contract has come under congressional investigation.
How about a Justice Department 'look see ?'
The State Department approved and privately notified Congress on January 19 about the sale, which would fulfill Kenya’s request to buy the planes and other services for missions against terrorist group al-Shabaab.

An IOMAX representative said the company was never given the chance to compete for the contract and did not hear about it until after it was publicly announced on January 23.
Didn't learn of the contract until after the award (as planned). Then we contacted Steve Bannon. The rest is history.
Under the contract, Kenya would spend $364.4 million on the aircraft and $53.6 million on other services. The IOMAX representative said it could produce the planes for $237 million -- about $127.4 million less than L-3.
We here in Kenya don't mind paying the extra $54 million dollars to L-3. We are confident it will go for a good cause.
A group of five North Carolina GOP lawmakers, led by Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC), sent a letter last week requesting a non-partisan government investigation into the matter.

"Our offices have been recently made aware of potential irregularities in the Foreign Military Sales acquisition process. Specifically, the existence of sole-source requests and a possible lack of due diligence by Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) Security Assistance Officers. It appears that more congressional oversight is warranted," said the Feb. 23 letter to the Government Accountability Office.

"It is our understanding that this contract may have been awarded to L-3 based on false assumptions made by DSCA that L-3 manufactures a weaponized manned ISR platform that fulfills the requirement submitted by the Government of Kenya to DSCA," it added.

Lawmakers suspect, although they do not have evidence, that Air Force acquisition officials, working with the State Department on the contract, unfairly steered it to L-3.
No demo, no flight testing, no bidding competition, simply sign here.
A State Department official, in an email obtained by Breitbart News, said Kenya had specifically requested L-3 produce the aircraft after "extensive market research," but acknowledged not possessing the research. Similarly, an Air Force official in an email obtained by Breitbart News acknowledged not being provided the research.

More Russian Connections! Sessions Lied!
The Justice Department confirmed late Wednesday that Sessions had contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak but said those were as part of his work as a senator rather than as a key backer of Trump's presidential bid. Sessions testified during his Senate confirmation hearing Jan. 10 that he had no contacts with Russian officials.
Them durn Rooshians was everywhere! No wonder Hillary lost the election!
The revelation prompted top Democrats in Congress to call for his ouster. "After lying under oath to Congress about his own communications with the Russians, the Attorney General must resign," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.
Did her lips move, or was the statement issued before she read it?
A Sessions spokeswoman, Sarah Isgur Flores, rejected accusations that he had misled lawmakers. "Last year, the senator had over 25 conversations with foreign ambassadors as a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, including the British, Korean, Japanese, Polish, Indian, Chinese, Canadian, Australian, German and Russian ambassadors," she said. "He was asked during the hearing about communications between Russia and the Trump campaign - not about meetings he took as a senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee."
Yeah, yeah - that's the same Trumpian story line that other Russian stooge gave - whatshisname? - Michael Flynn, yeah!

Flynn down, Sessions to go?
Then-US Senator Jeff Sessions spoke twice last year with Russia's ambassador, encounters he did not disclose when asked during his confirmation hearing to become attorney general about possible contacts between Trump's campaign and Russian officials, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing Justice Department officials.

One of the meetings was a private conversation between Sessions and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak that took place in September in the senator's office, at the height of what US intelligence officials say was a Russian cyber campaign to upend the US presidential race, the Post reported.

Africa Subsaharan
Dr Ahmed Jazbhay: Trump's alt-right ambassadors must be resisted
[IOL] Donald Trump, through Joel Pollak as ambassador, will attempt to export the alt-right’s "civilisation of death" agenda, writes Ahmed Haroon Jazbhay.

Speculation is rife that US President Donald Trump aims to send South African-born Joel Pollak as his ambassador to the country.

Pollak is editor-at-large of Breitbart news, a US publication of the alt-right (defined by the Washington Post as a "far-right movement whose followers hold racist, anti-Semitic and sexist beliefs and who desire a whites only state").

He was once a speech writer for former DA leader Tony Leon and played an influential role in the success of Trump’s campaign through Breitbart’s alt-right reporting agenda.

The alt-right agenda of the Trump administration, part of the wider agenda of Western modernity/coloniality, is nothing but a "civilisation of death" which hides beneath the rhetoric of illegal immigration, "radical Islam", and the security and sovereignty of Western Europe and the US.

Dr Ahmed Jazbhay article on the US election from 9 Nov 2016, entitled 'Thank you America, for voting Trump.'

SA Member of Exec Council hands out free KFC to inmates
[Cape News] Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has defended her decision to splurge more than R60 000 of taxpayers’ money treating prisoners to a KFC meal.

This after she was photographed dishing out heaps of KFC’s Streetwise Twos to offenders at Leeuwkop Prison in Midrand on Wednesday. The photographs, which were posted on Facebook, sent social media into a tailspin, with many criticising the decision, while others welcomed it.

Yesterday, Nkosi-Malobane said she had visited the prison as part of her department’s Get Out and Stay Out (Goso) programme, which had been running for the past two years.

Columbia University Hosts Forum Titled "Zionists are Racists"
[LI] Columbia University is facing criticism from pro-Israel groups for hosting an on-campus forum entitled, "Zionists are Racists."

The event, set to be held Monday evening in a university building, is being organized by Columbia University’s "Apartheid Divest" groups, which is comprised of several anti-Israel organizations committed to boycotting Jewish goods and individuals.

The event will feature speeches by individuals critical of the Jewish state, according to information publicly posted on Facebook.

The event is just another salvo in the campus war over Israel, which has become bound up in accusations of anti-Semitism against Jewish students and, in some cases, violence.

Much of this is being spearheaded by virulently anti-Israel campus organizations, including Students for Justice in Palestine, or SJP, and Jewish Voice for Peace, both of which advocate boycotts of Israel. SJP has been banned on some college campuses for promoting anti-Semitic materials. Both organizations are backing the forum at Columbia.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Illegal alien Jose Vargas BLAMES U.S. for FORCING illegal aliens to break the law!
[Right Scoop] Illegal alien celebrity Jose Vargas went to the speech last night as a guest of Nancy Pelosi’s, of course, and then talked to Don Lemon about how awful the United States is for forcing people to come here illegally.

I don’t know why they have this guy on because he’s one of the WORST spokespersons for illegal aliens. He keeps arguing that the United States is awful and that white people are terrible, and that illegal aliens are not to blame for anything. Trust me, that crap does NOT fly with most Americans.

One argument he makes is that is there’s no "correlation" between being an illegal alien and committing crime, but that doesn’t matter. As I’ve said before, if there is just ONE murder, one robbery, one rape, by illegal aliens, it’s a crime that SHOULD NOT be happening because there should be NO illegal immigration. Whether illegals commit more crimes or fewer than Americans is inconsequential. SO shove it, Jose.

I have to admit that Don Lemon at least challenged him a little bit towards the end, offering some of the rebuttals that many conservatives, like myself, would come back with. So kudos to him for that.

Government
Deployed US Navy Has A Preggies Problem, And It's Getting Worse
[Daily Caller] A record 16 out of 100 Navy women are reassigned from ships to shore duty due to pregnancy, according to data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group.

That number is up 2 percent from 2015, representing hundreds more who have to cut their deployments short, taxing both their unit’s manpower, military budgets and combat readiness. Further, such increases cast a shadow over the lofty gender integration goals set by former President Barack Obama.

Overall, women unexpectedly leave their stations on Navy ships as much as 50% more frequently to return to land duty, according to documents obtained from the Navy. The statistics were compiled by the Navy Personnel Command at the request of TheDCNF, covering the period from January 2015 to September 2016.

The evacuation of pregnant women is costly for the Navy. Jude Eden, a nationally known author about women in the military who served in 2004 as a Marine deployed to Iraq said a single transfer can cost the Navy up to $30,000 for each woman trained for a specific task, then evacuated from an active duty ship and sent to land. That figure translates into $115 million in expenses for 2016 alone.

Congressional Black Caucus PAC Spends Big on Luxury Resorts, Restaurants
[Free Beacon] The Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBC PAC) spends lavishly on upscale resorts and hotels, catering at exclusive restaurants, and on fundraising and Broadway tickets, according to a review of campaign finance records.

The CBC PAC, which is the fundraising arm of the Congressional Black Caucus, puts far more money towards administrative and fundraising purposes than it donates to candidates, the intended purpose of the political action committee.

The CBC PAC claims its mission is to increase "the number of African Americans in the U.S. Congress"

and to "support non-Black candidates that champion our interests, and promote African American participation in the political process-with an emphasis on young voters,"

China-Japan-Koreas
White House Options on North Korea Include Use of Military Force
[WSJ] An internal White House review of strategy on North Korea includes the possibility of military force or regime change to blunt the country’s nuclear-weapons threat, people familiar with the process said, a prospect that has some U.S. allies in the region on edge.

While President Donald Trump has taken steps to reassure allies that he won’t abandon agreements that have underpinned decades of U.S. policy on Asia, his pledge that Pyongyang would be stopped from ever testing an intercontinental ballistic missile--coupled with the two-week-old strategy review--has some leaders bracing for a shift in American policy.

The U.S. review comes as recent events have strained regional stability. Last month, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan, and the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was killed in Malaysia.

Chinese and North Korean officials are holding talks in Beijing, the first known high-level meeting in nearly a year, and Beijing recently curtailed coal imports from North Korea.

U.S. officials have underscored the possible military dimensions of their emerging strategy in recent discussions with allies, according to people familiar with the talks.

Europe
Hungary's Orbán: We Won't Import Foreign Labour Because Diversity ‘Causes Trouble'
[Breitbart] Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has spoken out against importing labour, asserting that increased ethnic and religious diversity bring problems to a nation.

Addressing the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Budapest on Tuesday, Orbán said importing foreign workers to boost economic growth would "downgrade" the country.

"Preserving ethnic homogeneity" is important to Hungary’s economy, according to the prime minister, who said "life has proven that too much mixing causes trouble".

He insisted the government "cannot risk changing the fundamental ethnic character of the country.

"That would not enhance the value of the country but downgrade it instead, and toss it into chaos."

Orbán stressed that "the problem of parallel societies is undesirable", alluding to other countries in Europe which have large communities of non-European migrants and experience high crime and terrorism.

Speaking as Hungary’s unemployment rate is at a record low of just above 4 per cent, with some employers claiming the country has a labour shortage, Orbán warned business leaders against a recourse to so-called guest worker programmes.

He said: "I would not like to see the country drift toward a situation where lower-skilled work would only be carried out by foreigners."

"We ourselves have to do the work required to keep our country going, from scrubbing toilets to nuclear science."

In his speech to business leaders, the prime minister also stated the government is aiming for full employment. He added it is important that banks and financial institutions in Hungary serve national interests.

Terrorist sneaks into outpost, stabs man as family watches
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian stabbed and lightly maimed a resident of the southern West Bank settlement outpost of Havat Mor inside his home on Wednesday, the army said.

The victim shot the alleged terrorist, who was pronounced dead on the scene by a local doctor, a spokesperson for the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.
Good.
The Paleostinian man had broken into the West Bank outpost in the Hebron Hills, the army said.

The man was in his home when he heard a noise outside. Leaving his home to investigate, he saw a Paleostinian man holding two knives, according to the Ynet news site.

The victim then ran back inside his house to get his pistol. The Paleostinian followed him into the living room and stabbed the Israeli man in front of his wife and children, according to the report.

The Israeli eventually managed to take out and use his gun on the attacker.

The victim, 33, suffered stab wounds to the limbs, Magen David Adom said. He was described as lightly injured.

The assailant was identified by the Paleostinian health ministry as Said Muhammad Ali Qisiyeh, 24, from al-Dharia, located near Hebron.

On Tuesday, police set up roadblocks and closed streets for several hours in response to suspicions of an unspecified "security incident" in the Beersheba-Rahat area, several kilometers south of the scene of Wednesday’s attack.

They lifted the precautions Tuesday night.

Jewish Museum in London evacuated after bomb hoax
[IsraelTimes] A bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Jewish Museum in London this week. Staff and visitors were sent outside after the threat was called in Monday at noon, the Jewish Chronicle reported Tuesday. Children from two schools were visiting at the time.

Police and security officials did not find any explosives in their inspection of the building.

"This incident underlines how vital our work is," Abigail Morris, director of museum, told the Jewish Chronicle. "We welcome thousands of visitors to the Jewish Museum every year, including 20,000 schoolchildren ‐ 95 percent of whom are not Jewish. We challenge prejudice and combat anti-Semitism by breaking down barriers and building bridges."

The hoax threat came within hours of a similar threat to the Sydney Jewish Museum.

UK home secretary pledges continued funding for security at Jewish institutions

[IsraelTimes] Speaking at CST event, Amber Rudd promises support amid uptick in anti-Semitic incidents, says ’I wish anti-Semitism was a subject of the past’.

Rudd said her office would provide £13.4 million (NIS 60 million) for security measures in the Jewish community in the coming year. The money, she said, would go towards security guards and protection at independent and state Jewish schools, kindergartens, synagogues and community sites.

The same sum was pledged to protect the Jewish community in 2016, a slight increase from £11.5 million (NIS 52 million) promised in 2015 by then-prime minister David Cameron

Lloyd Dorfman, the CST’s deputy chairman, said Britannia had seen a sharp rise in anti-Semitic attacks over the last eight months, with over 100 per month, a number rarely reached in the years prior.

"In the 10 years prior to 2016, there were only ever six separate months when the number of anti-Semitic incidents exceeded 100 in the month," he said.

"By comparison, we recently completed eight consecutive months with over 100 incidents in each month. As the process of leaving the EU unfolds, we must all be vigilant in guarding against attacks on faith, ethnic and national minorities," he added.

The CST released a report last month noting that anti-Semitism in the UK reached "unprecedented" levels in 2016, after a rise of 36 percent in the number of incidents.

Some 1,309 incidents were reported in 2016 ‐ the highest on record -- compared to 960 incidents in 2015 and 1,182 the year before, when Israel launched military action against terror groups in the Gazoo Strip, provoking a strong backlash against Jewish communities across the world, something the CST called a "trigger event."

He is from the Arab Israeli town of Shibli‐Umm al-Ghanam, his wife’s hometown. The 39-year-old father of five moved to Israel from Belarus in 1996 at age 18 and converted to Islam four years later, while he was serving in the Israel Defense Forces, the Shin Bet said.

"The investigation revealed that Mazlevski, who was active in IS-supporting groups on the internet, shared details of his intentions to travel to Syria and even coordinated his arrival with [the groups]," the Shin Bet said.

Mazlevski allegedly used a number of methods to communicate with fellow Islamic State supporters, including the Telegram encrypted messaging application.

According to police, the suspect was in contact with Sheikh Assad al-Tawhid, also known as Abu Huthaifah, who previously fought in Syria.

Police were aware of Mazlevski’s support for the Islamic State since at least July 2016. That month he was brought in for a "debriefing, in which it was clarified to him that the Islamic State is an illegal organization and that he has been ordered to stop his security activities."

Despite the police warning, Mazlevski began looking into joining the fighting in Syria in October 2016. He contacted a purported Islamic State fighter in Syria who identified himself as "Abu Abdullah." But before he could set out, Abu Abdullah broke off contact and scuttled Mazlevski’s plans, according to police.

A month later, he reached out to an alleged Islamic State member in the Sinai Peninsula and considered joining the fight against Egyptian troops there, police said.

Apparently undeterred, Mazlevski contacted a Russian-born IS fighter in Syria in January and began making preparations to travel there through Turkey, according to the indictment.

He purchased his plane ticket to Turkey and saved NIS 3,650 ($1,000) ahead of his trip.

Mazlevski never told his family of his plans to travel to Syria, according to police.

On January 16, 2017, he went to Ben Gurion International Airport to catch his flight to Turkey, but was stopped at the gate and prevented from traveling. The Shin Bet said it had received advanced intelligence about Mazlevski’s plans.

He was interrogated, but not arrested, at the airport. In the days that followed, Mazlevski attempted to remove any trace of Islamic State support from his cellphone, deleting accounts and conversations, according to the indictment.

Mazlevski was arrested on February 7. During his interrogation, he admitted to Sherlocks that he had planned to join the Islamic State in order to "fulfill the commandment placed on every true Moslem to live under an Islamic State and hold fast to his belief," police said.

The Shin Bet estimates that approximately 50 Arab citizens of Israel have traveled to Syria or Iraq to join the group in recent years.

On Wednesday, Mazlevski was charged in the Nazareth District Court with contacting a foreign agent, attempting to travel to an enemy nation and obstruction of justice, for deleting the information from his phone.

The state prosecutor requested Mazlevski be kept in police custody until the end of his trial.

Rachel Dolezal legally changed name to a West African moniker meaning 'gift of god'
- Rachel Dolezal, 39, changed her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo in a Washington state court in October. Legal documents show Nkechi, short for Nkechinyere, is a name that originates from the Igbo language of Nigeria and means 'what god has given' or 'gift of god'
She still hasn't turned black.
- Dolezal, former president of the NAACP’s Spokane, Washington chapter and a part-time professor of Africana Studies at Eastern Washington University, shot to notoriety in 2015 after being 'outed' as white by her parents
She doesn't even take a good tan.
- Just days after her recent name swap, the former professor started a Change.org petition under Nkechi Diallo to lobby TEDx to post one of her controversial speeches

- Dolezal's memoir, In Full Color, which charts her journey from childhood to NAACP president and activist, is set to be released next month
I understand she needs the money.

Erdogan: Occupied Karabakh conflict cannot be ignored
[AA.TR] Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
Wednesday brought up the situation of occupied Karabakh two days after an Azerbaijani soldier was martyred in a border clash with Armenian forces.

Speaking at the Economic Cooperation Organisation’s (ECO) 13th summit in Islamabad, Pakistain, Erdogan said 20 years of negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia had not resulted in a solution to the conflict.

"We, particularly, cannot ignore the Upper Karabakh issue," Erdogan said.

Erdogan also said that the international mediation group -- the Minsk Group -- had failed to find a peaceful solution to the Karabakh conflict.OThe Minsk Group, created in 1992, leads the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)'s efforts to find a solution to the dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The president urged ECO countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to work together to find a solution to the conflict, stressing that Armenia's "occupant attitude" should be addressed at each international meeting.

"We, both as ECO and Organization of Islamic Cooperation, should pay attention [to the situation]," he said.

An Azerbaijani soldier was martyred on Monday in a border clash, the country's Defense Ministry said. On Feb. 24, five soldiers were similarly martyred.

Last week's incident nearly coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly Massacre of Feb. 25-26, 1992, in which Armenian forces killed 613 Azerbaijanis in Karabakh.

Syria: Regime reportedly ready to talk transition
[AA.TR] The Syrian opposition at Geneva IV peace talks said Wednesday they had been told by UN mediator Staffan de Mistura that the regime delegation had agreed to discuss the issue of political transition.

"We hear from de Mistura a positive thing. Due to the Russian pressure, there is acceptance to tackle the issue of... political transition," Nasr al-Hariri, head of the Syrian opposition delegation, told a presser at the UN in Geneva after meeting with de Mistura.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov, whose government supports Bashir al-Assad’s regime, met the opposition delegation Wednesday afternoon in Geneva. Gatilov said beforehand that he would listen to the opposition’s view of the current situation.

"Today, we will have a meeting with Russia’s deputy foreign minister. In this meeting, we are going to discuss in details the issues related to cease-fire and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in different areas in Syria, especially Eastern Ghouta, and to seek a way to support the political process that is taking place now," Hariri said.

About the issue of political transition, Hariri said, "We hope that Russia will have a constructive role in this issue."

Russia on Tuesday called for the opposing sides in the Syrian peace talks to negotiate directly.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Gatilov said: "Direct talks, that is what we [have been] calling for from the very beginning. Unfortunately, this has not happened until now."

fighters on Wednesday, a military media unit run by Hezbollah said.

The Syrian army also seized a modern palatial complex to the southwest, it said, in advances that brought it closer to storming the city and driving back the jihadists.

Islamic State has captured Palmyra, whose ancient ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, twice during Syria’s six-year-old conflict.

The Syrian army and its allies, backed by Russian air support, recaptured the city from the ultra-hardline group in March last year, but Islamic State seized it again in December.

The group has razed ancient monuments during both of its spells in control of Palmyra ‐ destruction the United Nations

A Syrian military source told Rooters earlier on Wednesday: "The army’s entry to the city will begin very soon."

The army said it had captured an area known as the "Palmyra triangle" a few kilometers (miles) west of the city after rapid advances in recent days backed by Russian air strikes.

Pause In CIA Arms Program Has Syrian Rebels Worried
Since at least 2012, the United States has been supporting armed groups trying to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad. It has always been a difficult alliance because many of the rebel groups have ties to Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. The program has principally been run by the CIA.

In 2013, President Barack Obama waived a provision of the Arms Export Control Act that prevented arming terrorist organizations in order to arm Syrian rebels. Nonetheless, the weapons fell into Al Qaeda’s hands, first by accident, then on purpose after some marketing.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump repeatedly bashed the program and said, "We have no idea who these people are." He suggested the government was arming people who may see the U.S. as an enemy.

A recent pause in the program has many rebels worried that the CIA has gotten new orders from President Trump. According to Reuters, the program has been frozen since January after one rebel faction known as the Free Syrian Army (FSA) came under attack by the more dominant Al Qaeda-linked group Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly known as the Al Nusra Front).

The FSA has repeatedly proved to be a (seemingly unwilling) source of new weapons for Al Qaeda. Previous U.S. weapons given to FSA quickly fell into the hands of Al Qaeda-linked rebels when FSA fighters abandoned them on the battlefield.

Beyond the FSA’s forced donations to Al Qaeda’s war chest are its new conscious alliances. The FSA has now aligned with a rival Islamist rebel group backed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, known as Ahrar al-Sham. Though not Al Qaeda or ISIS-linked, al-Sham is also a Sunni jihadist militant group promoting a Salafist ideology.

Democrat giving response to Trump speech calls himself 'Republican'
The Democrat giving the response to President Trump’s congressional address on Tuesday inexplicably called himself a Republican during his response.

“I’m a proud Democrat, but first and foremost, I’m a proud Republican, and Democrat, and mostly, American,” former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear said in a telecast from a diner in his home state.

It was not clear why Beshear called himself a “proud Republican,” but the small group of supporters surrounding him did not seem to balk as he flip-flopped affiliations.

Beshear served two terms as Kentucky governor and one as lieutenant governor, in addition to four years as the state’s attorney general and six in its legislature — all as a Democrat.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Fleeing Israel bulldozers, Palestinians resort to caves
[AA.TR] Majid Hanani, a 64-year-old Paleostinian, has been forced to live the life of a caveman after his home in the West Bank was razed -- repeatedly -- by Israeli bulldozers.

Located in the village of Tana east of the West Bank city of Nablus, Hanani’s home -- along with 300 other modest Paleostinian homes -- was razed by Israeli bulldozers early this year, prompting displaced residents to seek refuge inside nearby caves.

The Israeli authorities, for their part, attempted to justify the demolitions by saying the homes had been built without state permission.

"Life is difficult in the caves," Hanani told Anadolu Agency. "We lack most basic requirements."

"But we have no alternative," he said bitterly. "We build our homes out of corrugated iron and Israeli bulldozers eventually come and demolish them."

"I’ve seen it happen more than 20 times," he added.

While watching an old television set powered by solar energy, Hanani said: "I fear difficult days ahead; harassment by the Israeli army -- and the Jewish settlers -- will continue."

He pointed to an outpost on a nearby hilltop, saying: "That’s a [Jewish] settler who came several years ago with his caravan. Today, he runs a farm for breeding cattle."

"He established a settlement outpost there," he explained. "Now he wants to extend the boundaries of his property to include land on which we were living before the 1967 occupation."

Science
Obumbles underfunded fusion research - but fusion (NOT solar) is the future
Scientific American - March 2017 issue - By Fred Guterl
edited for brevity
John Holdren has heard the old joke a million times: fusion energy is 30 years away - and always will be. Despite the broken promises, Holdren, who early in his career worked as a physicist on fusion power, believes passionately that fusion research has been worth the billions spent over the past few decades - and that the work should continue.

In December, Scientific American talked with Holdren, outgoing director of the federal Office of Science and Technology Policy, to discuss the Obama administration's failed science legacy.

HOLDREN: I started working on fusion in 1966. I did my master's thesis at MIT in plasma physics, and at that time people thought we'd have fusion by 1980. It was only 14 years away. By 1980 it was 20 years away. By 2000 it was 35 years away. But if you look at the pace of progress in fusion over most of that period, it's been faster than Moore's law in terms of the performance of the devices--and it would be nice to have a cleaner, safer, less proliferation-prone version of nuclear energy than fission.

My position is not that we know fusion will emerge as an attractive energy source by 2050 or 2075 but that it's worth putting some money on the bet because we don't have all that many essentially inexhaustible energy options. There are the renewables. There are efficient breeder reactors, which have many rather unattractive characteristics in terms of requiring what amounts to a plutonium economy--at least with current technology--and trafficking in large quantities of weapon-usable materials.

The other thing that's kind of an interesting side note is if we ever are going to go to the stars, the only propulsion that's going to get us there is fusion.

The reason we should stick with ITER [a fusion project based in France] is that it is the only current hope for producing a burning plasma, and until we can understand and master the physics of a burning plasma--a plasma that is generating enough fusion energy to sustain its temperature and density--we will not know whether fusion can ever be managed as a practical energy source, either for terrestrial power generation or for space propulsion. I'm fine with taking a hard look at fusion every five years and deciding whether it's still worth a candle, but for the time being I think it is.
Note: other entrepreneurs and scientists think small businesses that are nimble can advance fusion a lot better than ITER run by a committee of nations. Michael Laberge of General Fusion (Vancouver) thinks the Moore's Law for fusion pretty much halted with ITER because that's what happens with a committee. Just look at the UN. He thinks the little guys can develop smaller fusion projects quicker. A few are in with MIT. Jeff Bezos (amazon) invested in General Fusion and Peter Thiel (paypal, legend, centipede) invested in Helion Energy. I'd like to buy shares in Helion if I could.

A good example of this is when a committee got together to design a horse, they ended up way over budget and resulted in the end product being a camel.

So when I read about the Lockheed Fusion Reactor, my first thought is that it will never see the light of day. Lockheed being Lockheed, it's purely a money suck designed to bring bonuses to the board and upper management, nothing more.

China-Japan-Koreas
South Korea sends warning to Pyongyang as drills kick off
[AA.TR] South Korea was joined by the United States on Wednesday in beginning annual military drills that have provoked past tensions with North Korea, which views the exercises as war preparations.

This year’s drills coincide with an already delicate situation as Seoul and Washington push ahead with a plan to deploy an anti-missile THAAD system following North Korea’s banned ballistic projectile test last month.

The Foal Eagle exercise will continue until the end of April alongside another drill named Key Resolve from March 13, according to Seoul’s defense ministry.

In a speech on the 98th anniversary of Korea’s March 1 Independence Movement, the South’s acting President and Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn cautioned that the allies are ready to cope with Pyongyang.

"We will strongly punish any provocations and threats from North Korea based on the solid Seoul-Washington alliance," Hwang was quoted as saying by local news agency Yonhap as he stands in for scandal-hit President Park Geun-hye while her impeachment ruling is pending.

"On Feb. 24, 2017, some Boko Haram elements in gun trucks and on cycle of violences attacked our troops location at Gajiram. Sadly, one officer and 10 soldiers were killed in action and one other soldier was maimed in action," he said.

Irabor said another Boko Haram ambush on Feb. 9 also claimed eight soldiers, while 18 others were maimed. Three other soldiers are still missing, he added.

He also said several incidents of suicide kaboom were reported during the month, often claiming the lives of just the bombers.

The commander also rebuffed a recent Amnesia Amnesty International report accusing the military of killings of hundreds of civilians in the course of its operations, dismissing it as a "distraction".

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey, Syrian rebels attack U.S.-allied SDF
[Iraq News] The Turkish army and allied Syrian rebels attacked villages held by U.S.-allied militias near the city of Manbij in northern Syria on Wednesday, a front man for the militias said, an escalation of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s military campaign in the border area.

There was no immediate comment from Turkey, which is waging its "Euphrates Shield" campaign with Syrian rebels to drive both Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. and Kurdish militias away from the frontier.

Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said this week Manbij was the next target of the campaign following the capture of al-Bab from Islamic State last week.

The new attack focused on a string of villages controlled by the Manbij Military Council, part of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alliance, the front man for the Manbij Military Council told Rooters.

"There is a very big attack by the Euphrates Shield and Turkish army on the villages and areas of the Manbij Military Council," Sharfan Darwish, the front man, said. He named eight villages some 27 km (17 miles) west of Manbij. "There are fierce festivities ... and heavy artillery bombardment."

The SDF includes the powerful Kurdish YPG militia, viewed by Turkey as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a group that has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey.

The YPG helped capture Manbij from Islamic State last year in a U.S.-backed campaign fought under the SDF banner. The YPG has subsequently said it has withdrawn from Manbij. But Turkey continues to assert that the group remains in the city.

Darwish said the SDF was exercising "self restraint" since Erdogan’s comments, but would defend Manbij if necessary.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Half of college students think their loans will be forgiven
Owing to a serious misconception, almost half of college students recently polled believe they won't be saddled with student loans soon after graduation.

According to a survey of 500 current college students conducted by LendEDU, a private firm that connects students and their families with student loans and loan refinancing, 49.8 percent believe they would be able to receive federal forgiveness on their student loans after graduation.
This fits with almost half of the millennials thinking socialism is awesome
Was that an actual Congress-passed law or one of former President Obama's phone-and-pen specials?
This belief is hardly justified, given the limited circumstances in which these loans can actually be forgiven.

The US Department of Education says that federal direct student loan borrowers can get off the hook if they enter public service jobs for a specified period of time, agree to teach in an underserved area, die or become permanently disabled, or if the school they attended shuts down while they are enrolled or within 120 days after they leave.
And with public service jobs getting fewer and fewer with government cuts, someone better be taking something besides gender studies
"The biggest exemption is the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, and very few students go into public service," said Nate Matherson, who co-founded LendEDU in 2014.
Or was it one of those bureacratic edict thingies worked up by the department all by its veryownself?
"With maybe 14 percent of the American workforce in a public service job, the actual numbers of those who may qualify for student loan forgiveness or discharge is maybe below 10 percent.
Possibly less. I seem to recall President Trump ordering a public service hiring freeze for the next four or five years...
"The fact that many students do not understand this means that they may be significantly underestimating the cost of financing a college education," he added.
Gee... I wonder where they got that idea from after growing up under Obumble for 8 years?
Many students polled said they would rely on financial aid to make up the difference in reduced debt load. So while 90 percent knew of FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), 84 percent did not know the correct filing deadline for the application.

Mark Stephens is financial aid director at Pace University, where the "sticker price" annual tuition is $42,354 for the 2017-18 academic year, a figure that he says is on the average "about 50 percent discounted" through a combination of gift scholarships and other freebies like Pell Grants.
Expect to see forgiveness of student loans to become a major political issue in 8 years. I predict the taxpayers will be on the hook for it.

#1  Well, when you print up 20 Trillion dollars of debt (and climbing), at a certain point the eventual inflation can catch up on the numbers on the books*. Meanwhile, you still need to pay the minimum on your balance.

The bank holds a note on a 250k house before the Big Bust. After the Bust, the house is only worth 175K on the market. What do you do? You have your employees on the rotation at the Fed and Treasury print loads of money driving up real inflation while under reporting not to panic the rubes. Now, that house is once again worth 250K and your books are good. Meanwhile, the rubes get to cover your bad by paying twice as much at the stores for food, gas, and other daily commodities. It's almost as though it was a tax to bail you out.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 03/02/2017 5:42 Comments || Top||

#2  ...And a disturbing number of students seem to believe that the loans will ultimately be forgiven on a national basis (as opposed to individual) because "everybody knows that the loans will never be paid back so the government will have to bail them out like they bailed out the banks and auto companies."

The first part - 'never be paid back' - may actually have some small truth to it. But the lil' darlings seem to forget that as long as you are getting money from someplace, even unemployment payments, all it takes is a couple lines of code and you're making the payments whether you want to or not. No debates in the media or Washington, no arguments on Capitol Hill, and definitely no chance for you to argue about how unfair it may or may not be. Just some minimum wage data entry drone hitting some keys to enforce an agreement you freely made, so you are not burdened with having to figure out how you're going to pay and have that much more time to reflect upon your choice of Medieval Gender Studies as your major.

And book this - If Hillary! had the good sense to even suggest the remote possibility of a review of student loans, she'd be President right now. The next Democratic candidate won't make the same mistake.

Russian Syrian wargame pulled from Steam
South Front claims the game was pulled because it was too pro Russian, which is a typical charge for that crowd.

The game developer said an anonymous individual from the czech Republic filed a copyright violation claim with Steam. The game's developer said that they had previously contacted an unidentified developer for permission to use parts of their game, but they were not given as reply.

They went ahead with their own version of the game. The developer said their game is separate from the game. They wanted to use it as a base.

Government
Dems go full left retard - two examples

Progressives begin push to primary red-state Senate Dems for being too Trump-friendly

This new progressive project, called "We Will Replace You," could just as easily be called "Operation Cutting Off Our Noses to Spite Our Faces." According to The Hill, the frustration from the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party will take aim at Senate Democrats they deem to be too cooperative with the Donald Trump administration. They plan to challenge those Democratic incumbents in primaries next year as punishment for straying from "the resistance":

"We fundamentally reject the assumption that Democrats can only win in red states by pandering to racists and big bankers," said Claire Sandberg, a co-founder of the progressive political action committee We Will Replace You.

"The way we beat Trumpism and take back Congress and statehouses is offering a coherent vision of our own to put people back to work. … We don't need to completely compromise our own values and principles."

We Will Replace You is the most visible effort gearing up to back primary challenges from the left. Spearheaded by a group of progressives, including two former senior staffers on Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-Vt.) presidential campaign, the group's website includes a warning for Democrats looking to avoid a competitive primary race.

"Do everything you can to Resist Trump, or we will replace you with someone who will," the group's statement reads.

Well, that's quite a choice ‐ either lose a general election or lose a primary. The progressives at WWRY argue that Democrats can retain these seats through a purity campaign that will turn out like-minded voters enough to beat Republicans in these states. Progressives tried that strategy in at least one winnable state in 2016, the Senate election in Wisconsin, with disastrous results. Rather than look for a fresh face that might appeal to a changing electorate, they hauled Russ Feingold out of mothballs to run as a true progressive against incumbent Republican Ron Johnson. As they now argue, progressives figured that a presidential-turnout model and a "pure" candidate would provide more than enough turnout lift to win the seat back. Not only did they miscalculate on the turnout model, they also miscalculated on the attractiveness of progressivism in Wisconsin ‐ a state that had been turning red ever since Johnson and Scott Walker first won in 2010.

Pelosi to Democrats: Treat Trump voters like a friend whose boyfriend is a jerk

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is telling her rank-and-file members that she is confident a good portion of President Donald Trump's voters will eventually turn on him -- and Democrats just have to wait it out.

She's using a colorful analogy to make her point -- comparing Trump to a friend's boyfriend who is a "jerk."

"The way I told my members: It's like telling your friend the guy she's dating is a jerk. You can't tell her that. She has to find out for herself. You can give her clues and then eventually one thing will lead to another, she'll come to her conclusion. But if you tell her right up front, you'll lose a friend. So we're not interested in losing any friends. Let them find out," Pelosi recounted during a small briefing for reporters in her Capitol suite Tuesday.
A return to civility? That would be nice.
"They made a judgment and they're not willing to walk away from their own judgment," she said.

Pelosi did, however, make a sweeping judgment about educated women who voted for Trump rather than Hillary Clinton.

"White educated women who voted against Hillary? They voted with their husbands on taxes and they always have," declared Pelosi.

Clinton got 51% of white educated women. Trump got 44%.

Matt Gorman, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, blasted Pelosi's comments Tuesday evening,

"Leave it to a San Francisco liberal to belittle and condescend to the 63 million voters who called for real change last November," Gorman said. "Pelosi's comments underscore just how hard it'll be for this out-of-touch party to compete across the country in 2018."

Pelosi also discussed the first White House meeting that she and other lawmakers had with the President after he was inaugurated, when he insisted that millions of votes were fraudulent and Pelosi told him he was wrong.

Beyond that widely reported incident, Pelosi said Trump worked very hard in the meeting to charm lawmakers, especially Democrats, though she conceded Trump worked harder on Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer because he probably knows she is a "lost cause."

"He uses the charm offensive -- which is offensive, very offensive," said Pelosi.
Instead of trying to engage people and convince them of the worthiness of their ideas, they go full hostile on all those that don't agree or tow the party line hard enough. Usually when a authoritarian group does this, it is the last dying spasm before it collapses. The current demoncrat party can't die soon enough. I just hope it is replaced with something somewhat sane.

Restaurant in Michigan tells American Legion officers to remove jackets
KENTWOOD, Mich. -- American Legion officers say they were told they weren't permitted to wear their affiliated jackets at a Dave & Buster's in Michigan because they showed evidence of gang affiliation.

Victor Murdock and Adrienne Brown of the American Legion Riders Post 179 out of Grandville say they were told they couldn't wear their jackets inside the Kentwood restaurant. The jackets have patches of the American flag, the Prisoner of War flag and a bald eagle.

The Texas-based company said in a statement that the group was asked to remove the jackets or turn them inside out because the business' dress code prohibits evidence of gang affiliation. Spokeswoman April Spearman said the policy was in place "to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy themselves in a fun and safe environment."

"Though we understand that the American Legion promotes a positive mission, for consistency reasons we cannot allow motorcycle jackets displaying patches or rockers," she said.

Murdock said he doesn't see how the policy would apply to American Legion affiliates.

"I get it," he said. "Everyone has to have a policy to keep the unwanted element out. But an American flag and a bald eagle does not represent a gang element."

Spearman non-apologized for the frustration on behalf of the company.

"We are extremely grateful to all of our active military members and veterans and are honored to have them as valued guests in any of our locations," she wrote. "Our policies are in no way meant to be disrespectful and we apologize for any frustration this may have caused."
If no one was frustrated are you then not sorry?

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Is this the real reason why we never return to the Moon? Shocking claim over what stops us
SPACE agencies never fly to the Moon anymore... because it is too dangerous for us to go there, it has shockingly been claimed. A growing conspiracy theory suggests the Moon is occupied by advanced aliens that have banned humans from returning.
I seen dis movie! No, really! "Apollo 18"!
The theory links in with others that claim there are alien bases on the dark side of the Moon.

In a feature devoted to the theory, conspiracy theory website Ancient Code said: "Have you ever asked yourself why mankind has not returned to the moon in recent years?

"According to many researchers and Ufologists, the American space agency is hiding a sinister secret from society, and we are not familiar with everything that has occurred--and is still occurring--on the surface of the moon.

"Many people claim there is enough evidence to suggest there are Alien bases on the moon.

"Rumors, declassified documents, and whistleblowers have come forward saying that agencies around the globe simply cannot afford to let society know what’s really on the moon."

The theory suggests that NASA astronauts during the moon landings met with aliens, who eventually warned them not to return.

The website added: "The idea that there are alien bases on the moon would explain why we stopped so abruptly going to the moon.

"Also, with our current technology, why haven’t we created a permanent manned outpost on the lunar surface?
There's a good reason why, and we don't have to look past our feckless leaders to find it...
"Wouldn’t it be easier to build a permanent structure on the surface of the moon, than to have a floating space station orbiting around Earth?"
No, but don't let that stop you...
The far-fetched theory goes onto suggest aliens are mining the moon of its resources, and UFOs, that allegedly visit Earth, are stationed on the moon.

The late Dr Harold Urey investigated lunar science from the 1950s. He claimed to be "terribly puzzled" by the rocks astronauts found on the moon and their titanium content. The samples contained titanium, which no one could account for the presence of.

Scott C Waring, editor of ufiosightingsdaily.com, is a believer. He said even claims to have found evidence of structures on the Moon in US Navy Archives. In a blog today, he said: "I found these structures today.

"The structure above was the most fascinating to me. It’s a long straight structure along what looks like a crater but is actually not.

"It's actually all one structure. No crater there, just structure.

"Hard to understand I know."

Ancient Code added: "But, is there really an alien base there? Well, I guess you can’t know that but, is it a coincidence that there are some lunar rocks that have been found to contain PROCESSED METALS such as Brass, Uranium 236 and Neptunium 237?

"These elements have NEVER been found to occur naturally.

"Uranium 236 is a radioactive nuclear waste which is found in spent nuclear and reprocessed Uranium.

"More interestingly, Neptunium 237 is a radioactive metallic element and a by-product of nuclear reactors and the production of Plutonium."
Continues...
Sweet mother of gawd, I was afraid you'd say that...

The Cassandra Project
Jack McDevitt and Mike Resnick

Two science fiction masters team up to deliver a classic thriller in which one man uncovers the secret history of the US space program... Early in his career, Jerry Culpepper could never have been accused of being idealistic. Doing public relations--even for politicians--was strictly business...until he was hired as NASA's public affairs director and discovered a client he could believe in. Proud of the agency's history and sure of its destiny, he was thrilled to be a part of its future--a bright era of far-reaching space exploration. But public disinterest and budget cuts changed that future. Now, a half century after the first moon landing, Jerry feels like the only one with stars--and unexplored planets and solar systems--in his eyes. Still, Jerry does his job, trying to drum up interest in the legacy of the agency. Then a fifty-year-old secret about the Apollo XI mission is revealed, and he finds himself embroiled in the biggest controversy of the twenty-first century, one that will test his ability--and his willingness--to spin the truth about a conspiracy of reality-altering proportions...

Since we haven't seen anything racing across the visible surface of the moon every two week and the terminologies are incorrect, it indicate that there is no scientific education whatsoever! It's a safe bet the people involved are not quite right in the head!

India-Pakistan
Murderer Tanveer Ahmed inspires Pakistani hardliners from Scottish jail
[BBC] When Tanveer Ahmed was sentenced to a minimum of 27 years in jail for murder last August, Judge Lady Rae said he had committed a "brutal, barbaric and horrific crime".

Ahmed stabbed to death Glasgow shopkeeper Asad Shah - who belonged to the persecuted Ahmadi sect - because he believed he was committing blasphemy by uploading online videos in which he claimed to be a prophet.

But in Pakistan, Ahmed is developing a growing number of supporters who see him as a "defender of Islam" for having killed someone they believed to be disrespecting the Prophet Muhammad.

On Monday evening, about 400 gathered outside his family's home in the city of Mirpur, in Pakistan-administered Kashmir for a rally in his honour. The crowd chanted slogans praising Ahmed as "brave" and "courageous".

One man attending said: "Because of what he did, the whole of Pakistan knows who he is."

The event was organised by the anti-blasphemy religious lobby group Labaik Ya Rasool Ullah (Here I am present, o Prophet of Allah).

The same group has championed another killer - Mumtaz Qadri - who in 2011 shot dead a high profile Pakistani politician for trying to reform the country's blasphemy laws.

Blasphemy is an emotive issue in Pakistan, where it is legally punishable by death.

After Qadri was executed last year, tens of thousands of his supporters attended his funeral, and a shrine housing his tomb has been built in Rawalpindi.

Hardline cleric Khadim Rizvi is one of the leading figures in Labaik Ya Rasool Ullah, and is the most prominent supporter of Tanveer Ahmed.

As well as images of Mumtaz Qadri, Rizvi now uses images of Ahmed to promote his rallies and talks.

Ahmed had cited Qadri as his inspiration for killing his victim, and their supporters often compare the two killers.

In a BBC interview Rizvi said support for Ahmed was not as widespread as that for Qadri - but that Ahmed was held in particularly high esteem for having killed someone accused of blasphemy in a non-Muslim country.

Over the past few months a Facebook page run by Rizvi's followers has released a number of audio messages from Ahmed whilst in jail. The messages included Ahmed justifying his own actions - and repeating slogans that "the penalty for blasphemers is for their heads to be cut off".

Rizvi was prevented from attending the rally in Mirpur by police, but I met him earlier this month after another rally.

He said that until recently he would talk to Tanveer Ahmed on the phone "every couple of weeks", and that he was proud of his friendship with him.

"I'm proud of the fact that we are in contact - and this pride will remain until the day of judgement and beyond."

Rizvi added that his conversations with Ahmed included discussions on the topic of blasphemy, and chants in support of the Prophet Muhammad.

After a BBC report in January 2017 on Ahmed's audio messages from jail, the Scottish Prison Service banned him from using the phone.

Rizvi, Ahmed and Qadri all come from the Sufi Barelvi sect of Sunni Islam, one normally associated with more spiritual interpretations of the religion.

Rizvi, for example, is vocal in his condemnation of recent attacks in Pakistan, and of militant groups like the so-called Islamic State.

But in Pakistan, Barelvis have been at the forefront of anti-blasphemy campaigns.
"A Sufi is someone who devotes his life to the Prophet Muhammad - if someone insults the Prophet and they just let it go - they are not a real Sufi," Rizvi said.

Security guarantees, land mines delay repairs on Donetsk water plant
The Ukrainian held town of Avdievka reports that its water supply is reaching critical levels, as Ukrainian and Russian backed rebels negotiate repairs on the Avdievka water filtration plant, according to Russian language news accounts.

The Avdievka water filtration plant has been out of operation since February 24th, when workers left the facility following artillery attacks by Ukrainian forces, according to rebel charges. Ukrainians countered with charges that rebel artillery has hit critical electrical infrastructure used to deliver water to the Ukrainian side of the line.

Both sides are under threat of water shortages, although the rebel side has yet to remark on the crisis.

At the moment negotiations have stalled between the two warring factions over security guarantees. Ukrainians say that rebels have fired mortar launched land mines near the water plant. Ukrainians also have mines in the area and have offered to remove those explosives as long as rebels do not fire onto the area.

This 30 month war has built up a surplus of distrust between the two sides, especially now in the wake of the Ukrainian national government imposition of an economic blockade on both Donetsk and Lugansk. The governments of Donetsk and Lugansk have responded that they will seize heavy industrial assets, effectively "nationalizing" those businesses.

Rebel forces have been firing artillery and mortars on Ukrainian positions over the last 24 hours. Mortar fire has been reported on Ukrainian positions near the coastal city of Mariupol, including at Gnutovo, Shirokino, Pavlopovo and Vodyanoye. Ukrainians reported that 122mm artillery hit Ukrainian positions at Vodyanoye.

Rebel 152mm artillery hit Ukrainian positions near Donetsk city, including at Luganskoye and Troitskoye. Both 120mm and 82mm mortar fire was reported in the Donetsk city area including at Peski, Zaitsevo, Troitskoye, Novoluganskoye, Kamenka, Avdievka and Opytnoye.

Ukrainian news accounts also report that one unidentified Ukrainian soldier was killed and seven more were wounded, five of them in the shelling at Butovka mine.

The rebel ministry of defense in Donetsk reported that Ukrainian artillery pounded Yasinovataya, Vasilevka and Mineralevka for four hours on Wednesday, knocking out power in Vasilevka. The report does not specify what kind of artillery was used in the attack. Yasinovataya and surrounding areas sit astride the main road between Donetsk and Gorlovka, to the north, and has been contested by the two sides for nearly 18 months.

Rebels also claim that Ukrainian forces have fired on their positions more than 1,700 times, but that total includes small arms fire.

In Dokuchaevsk, near the Russian border on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, Ukrainian artillery damaged two residential buildings. Two more residential buildings were damaged by Ukrainian artillery fire in the northern Donetsk town of Gorlovka.

Ukrainian artillery fire also hit targets in western Donetsk city, and in Zhelznaya Balka, Mikailovka, Zaitsevo, Ozeryanovka and Verkhnetoretskoye.

In the south, near the Mariupol region, Ukrainian artillery hit rebel held locations at Sakhanka, Oktyabr, Leninskoye and Kominternovo.

Rebels are reporting one dead and one wounded soldier, both unidentified.

Hillary Clinton Volunteer Attacks Carryn Owens, Widow of Slain Navy SEAL
This is how they roll. Put up an offensive tweet, let it marinate, and then delete the account before they're called to answer for their offensive stupidity. Twitter accounts are free, easy to obtain, and easy to dump.
Last night, during President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress, we saw what may be the most emotional moment in the history of Presidential speeches.

Trump paid tribute and honored Carryn Owens, the widow of Navy SEAL William "Ryan" Owens. Ryan Owens was killed in Yemen last month during anti-terrorism raids. And the applause inside the House was overwhelming.

As Trump said, "Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity." He added that Ryan "laid down his life for his friends, for his country, and for our freedom -- we will never forget him."

The standing ovation lasted more than 120 seconds. However, some Democrat leaders refused to stand.

On Twitter, Dan Grilo, who worked for both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama on their presidential campaigns, slammed Owens and called her an "idiot."

Here is the Tweet, which went viral before Grilo deleted his entire Twitter account:
Research indicates: Dan Grilo: Chief Operating Officer of Liberty Advisor Group.
Fox News adds:
As of Wednesday morning, Grilo’s profile page on the site had been deleted, and the company later confirmed that an employee had sent what they called "an offensive and inappropriate tweet" regarding the Gold Star family.

In a statement, the company said that while the message was from his personal account, "his comments were inconsistent with the Company's values."

"Regardless of whether the comments in the tweet were intended to cause the hurt and anger that they ultimately generated, they were unacceptable to us, and the individual who issued the tweet is no longer affiliated with Liberty," the statement said.
And he looked so businesslike in his business-suited Twitter picture, too. I do look forward to the day when politics is not omnipresent. Hopefully Mr. Grilo has learnt that particular lesson.

FARC begins disarming in Colombia
[AA.TR] Members of the FARC rebel group on Wednesday began disarming under the guidance of UN observers as the country moves into a new phase of a peace deal signed last year.

Doubts had been voiced by the government, the UN and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia
FARC or FARC-EP, is either a Marxist-Leninist revolutionary guerrilla organization or a drug cartel based in Colombia. It claims to represent the rural poor in a struggle against Colombia's wealthier classes, and opposes United States influence in Colombia, neo-imperialism, monopolization of natural resources by multinational corporations, and the usual raft of complaints. It funds itself principally through ransom kidnappings, taxation of the drug trade, extortion, shakedowns, and donations. It has lately begun calling itself Bolivarian and is greatly admired by Venezuela's President-for-Life Chavez, who seemingly fantasizes about living in the woods and kidnapping people himself. He provides FARC with safe areas along the border.
(FARC) about whether the March 1 commencement date to begin the disarming process would be met as some of the 26 zones of concentration in Colombia were not ready to receive the 6,900 rebels now committed to the peace agreement.

But as news came that the process had begin, the government sounded optimistic both sides would stay committed to the deal.

"It's an inescapable fact that the armed conflict is coming to an end," Interior Minister Juan Fernando Cristo told a local radio station. "We are in the initial phase of destroying unstable weaponry."

President Juan Manuel Santos, who relied the Nobel Peace Prize for working out the peace deal said late Tuesday that "the country has entered an irreversible stage of peace consolidation," and that "as a government, as a state and as a society we are going to make the fruits of peace a reality".

Sudan gets PM for first time in 28 years
[AA.TR] For the first time in 28 years Sudan has a prime minister, presidential assistant Ibrahim Mahmoud said Wednesday.

Bakri Hassan Saleh was appointed to the post by President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
, according to Mahmoud, who spoke at a news conference. "Saleh will also continue his duty as the president's first assistant" and form a Cabinet while consulting with partners who attended a national dialog process, Mahmoud said.

Al-Bashir eliminated the post of prime minister when he came to power in 1989 following a bloodless coup.

But late last year, the president proposed constitutional reforms that included the appointment of a prime minister.

Al-Bashir launched a national dialogue in 2015 in an attempt to end insurgencies in Sudan’s border regions but last October the talks were boycotted by the main opposition parties.

PTV anchor resigns from post amid 'harassment' controversy
[DAWN] Pakistain Televison (PTV) anchor Tanzeela Mazhar, whose account of harassment and unwanted advances by a senior rocked the media, on Wednesday announced she had resigned from the TV channel.

Mazhar wrote in her resignation, which she also tweeted, that: "Things were made very difficult for me to work and I was facing huge psychological torture every day."

"Overall, the environment at this office had become absolutely non-conducive and I was being threatened in every possible way to submit to that environment to secure my job and career," she alleged.

This, she wrote, happened as a result of her constant complaints against PTV’s current affairs director, "who made unwelcome advances" at her in 2009.

"[...] After my resistance/confronting [my abuser] on his attitude, I was exploited and put off screen for [a] few months," she alleged.

The Ministry of Information, which has oversight over PTV, was unable to comment on the matter as it was unaware of the development.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel has begun dividing Al-Aqsa: Islamic organization
[AA.TR] Israel has begun partitioning East Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque complex with a view to creating a prayer space for Jewish worshippers, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) warned Wednesday.
According to Wikipedia, the OIC is "an international organization founded in 1969 consisting of 57 member states, with a collective population of over 1.6 billion as of 2008. The organisation states that it is "the collective voice of the Muslim world" and works to "safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony"."
"The placement of a glass room inside the courtyard of the al-Aqsa Mosque complex is a first step toward the spatial division of the mosque," Ahmad al-Ruwaidhi, the OIC’s representative in Paleostine, said at a Wednesday presser.

The move, he asserted, "follows the imposition of a temporal division [by Israel] in the form of daily incursions [into al-Aqsa] by Jewish settlers".

What’s more, the move reveals "Israel’s intention to dedicate a place for Talmudic rituals inside the al-Haram al-Sharif," al-Ruwaidhi said, using the Arabic term for the al-Aqsa Mosque.
I have no idea what Talmudic rituals are. Sorry.
The OIC representative also warned of the dangers posed by Israeli excavations that are reportedly being carried out under the holy site.

In light of these excavations, al-Ruwaidhi said, "we fear the al-Aqsa Mosque could collapse in the event of a natural -- or artificial -- earthquake".

Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, the grand mufti of Jerusalem, for his part, reiterated the Islamic identity of Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque.

"Claims put forward this week by the Israeli magistrate's court -- that al-Aqsa is a holy place for Jews -- is completely false and not supported by evidence," he said.

For Moslems, al-Aqsa represents the world's third holiest site. Jews, for their part, refer to the area as the "Temple Mount," claiming it was the site of two Jewish temples in ancient times.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Senior al Qaeda leader killed by CIA drone strike
A Hellfire missile fired by a CIA drone killed al-Qaeda leader Abu al-Khayr al-Masri late on Sunday while he was riding in a car near the northwestern Syrian city of Idlib, a U.S. intelligence official said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The 59-year-old al-Masri, whose real name was Abdullah Muhammed Rajab Abdulrahman, was second-in-command to the group’s leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and a member of its shura council, said the official, who was briefed on the attack and spoke on condition of anonymity.

He also was married to one of Osama bin Laden’s daughters, the official added. CNN first reported the strike.

The official said Masri, as he was widely known, had sought refuge in Iran after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, and was believed to have been in Syria helping to direct Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, an al-Qaeda branch previously called the Nusra Front, the official said.

The Iranians released him from house arrest almost two years ago, in exchange for a diplomat being held hostage in Yemen by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the official said.

An Iranian diplomat held hostage in Yemen since 2013 returned home to Tehran in 2015 amid conflicting accounts of how he was freed from his unidentified abductors. At the time Iran said the diplomat had been rescued by an Iranian intelligence operation in Yemen. But Yemeni media run by the Iran-allied Houthi group said the diplomat was freed in a prisoner exchange that took place in another country.Masri's death was the end of an almost 19-year U.S. hunt for him. A second U.S. official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said Masri was thought to be one of the planners of the 1998 attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
Update from Ynet at 6:10 p.m. ET:
Al-Qaeda confirmed on Thursday that a US-led coalition dronezap had killed big shot Abu al-Khayr al-Masri, in a joint statement issued by the hard boy group's Maghreb and Arabian Peninsula branches.

#4  Background from The Times of Israel:

Al-Masri, a veteran Egyptian militant, was the deputy of al-Qaeda’s leader Ayman al-Zawahri, and the organization’s senior figure in Syria. He coordinated al-Qaeda’s work with other militant groups and played a direct role in developing external plots, according to a US counterterrorism official, who was not authorized to discuss the issue and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Al-Zawahri is believed to be based in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region, but many of the group’s senior figures are believed to have moved to Syria, taking advantage of the country’s civil war to establish a presence — though many of them have subsequently been killed in US drone strikes the past year.

made a "farewell speech" to his combatants in battlefields, ordering them to "flee and hide in mountainous areas" in Iraq and Syria. The text of the speech was disseminated among other speakers to read out to fighters at various areas in western Mosul.

The directives tell fighters to blow themselves up once encircled by Iraqi troops, the source claims, adding that senior commanders close to Baghdadi were moving on the borderline between Syria and Iraq. "The leaders of the so-called Mujahideen Shura (advisory) Council have all fled Nineveh and Tal Afar to Syria."

Iraqi forces have made remarkable gains since launching a renewed offensive on February 19th to retake western Mosul from IS myrmidons. The government said late January it had retaken the eastern side of the city following three months of fighting.

Military commanders from the Iraqi forces and the allied U.S.-led international military coalition have said IS resistance was remarkably weaker in the west compared to the east. Government forces became closer Tuesday to a government complex in central Mosul, having retaken the city’s airport, a major military base and a vital bridge linking both sides of the city.

Earlier this month, unconfirmed news claimed that Baghdadi, whose exact whereabouts remained unknown for long, had been seriously maimed when Arclight airstrikes targeted a big shotship meeting he chaired near the borders with Syria.

#2  Islamic State supreme leader’s speech admits defeat in Mosul

Defeat to me would be all his followers would be staked down in a line and run over by a tank. Instead of sneaking away to fight another day. But I'll take what I can get for now.

French tanks are faster in reverse than in forward gear.

Iraqi forces invade major prison facility in western Mosul
[Iraq News] Iraqi security forces invaded Wednesday a major prison facility in western djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
as operations continue to clear the region from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bad boys.

Ikhnews quoted a security source saying the forces stormed the Badush Prison, located at a town in northwestern Mosul. Earlier on Wednesday, Iraqi commanders said they had consummated a siege around the town after recapturing two last villages.

In 2014, the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
said the Badush Prison was a stage for a massacre that coincided with Islamic State’s takeover of Mosul. The group was believed to have stormed the facility, assorted prisoners based on their religious affiliations, and later executed at least 670 Shia inmates, an action which the U.N. said amounted to a crime against humanity.

The Iraqi government launched nearly two weeks ago a new offensive to retake western Mosul from IS fighters, having cleared the eastern region late January.

The Federal Police command said recently that more than 900 IS fighters died in encounters with security forces since the launch of operations at the west.

Military commanders from the Iraqi forces and the allied U.S.-led international military coalition have said IS resistance was remarkably weaker in the west compared to the eastern side. Government forces became closer Tuesday to a government complex in central Mosul, having retaken the city’s airport, a major military base and a vital bridge linking both sides of the city.

India-Pakistan
India successfully tests interceptor missile
[DAWN] India on Wednesday successfully tested a low-altitude interceptor missile which destroys incoming ballistic missiles, Times of India reported.

The missile fired off Abdul Kalam Island "successfully destroyed" the incoming "enemy" Prithvi missile, Indian defence officials claimed.

The test is a step towards making the country's two-tier ballistic missile defence (BMD) system, which incorporates both low-altitude and high-altitude interceptor missiles, operational. It will be at least another two years before the interceptor missile is ready for deployment to protect sensitive targets.

The Prithvi missile was launched from the integrated test range at Chandipur over Bay of Bengal at 10:15am.

"All the mission objectives were successfully met. The weapon system radars tracked the target and provided the initial guidance to the interceptor which could precisely home on to the target and destroyed it in the endo-atmospheric layer," India's Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

"The complete event, including the engagement and destruction, was tracked by a number of electro-optical tracking systems using infrared imagery. Radars and telemetry stations tracked the target and the interceptor till the destruction of the target," the statement added.

Afghanistan
Taliban storm police, intelligence offices in Kabul
[AA.TR] Taliban stormed two major security installations, including a police center and a regional intelligence agency office in the capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
Wednesday, according to an eyewitness and officials.

The 6th district center of Afghan police and the 12th district of the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
were targeted in the attack described by a security source as suicide kabooms followed by gunbattles.

Najib Danish, deputy front man for the Ministry of Interior, confirmed the ongoing attacks.

Danish told Anadolu Agency at least two attackers stormed the security installations after a suicide car kaboom. He added that five security personnel sustained minor injuries.

"All attackers have been killed, our security forces are now busy in the clean-up operation," Danish said later in the evening without disclosing the exact number of the attackers.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, said between two and three attackers were involved in the gunbattle with Afghan forces.

Waheed Majroh, front man for the Ministry of Public Health, said two non-combatants were killed and 41 others were maimed in this attack.

The Afghan Taliban have grabbed credit for the attack in a statement on its website. According to the holy warrior group, vehicles loaded with explosives attacked the security installations at a time when an important meeting was underway there. It also claimed that several Afghan security personnel had been killed in the attack.

Europe
Norway: Court rules mass murderer's rights not violated
[AA.TR] A Norwegian court on Wednesday overturned a previous verdict that Norway had violated the human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
of a convicted mass murderer.

"The court has come to the conclusion that Anders Behring Breivik is not, and has not, been subjected to torture or inhumane or degrading treatment," the Oslo court said in its decision.

The verdict said there were "no clear indications that Breivik has been subjected to isolation damage during his prison sentence."

"The court is of the opinion that there is a high risk that Breivik will resort to violence in the future," it added.

In July 22, 2011, Anders Breivik -- a radical conservative -- carried out a kaboom in Oslo, Norway. He then slaughtered students on Utoya Island located near Oslo. In total, 77 people died and more than 200 others were maimed.

It has to. Otherwise it was a coldly calculated act like drone hit list of individuals. Done for the same reason. To decapitate an enemy's leadership.

Real Indian To Take On Fake Indian
Semi-disclosure - he's a former client who pissed me off too many times, so I cut him loose. I IM'd someone on Facebook this afternoon, and he responded - 'I hope he gets hit by a car and becomes a parapalegic'. So there you have it from the CPA crowd fully aware of his (scumbag) financial background.

By the way, he did not invent e-mail.

[Boston.com] In the wee hours of Saturday morning, the prospective field of 2018 Republican challengers to Sen. Elizabeth Warren added another name: Shiva Ayyadurai.

The 53-year-old Cambridge resident and self-described inventor of email publicly announced his plans to run against the Massachusetts Democrat in a tweet at 4:23 a.m. Saturday.
