India-Pakistan
Trump Effect on India-Pakistan: Visa Threat Does The Impossible
February 1, 2017: Islamic terrorist violence inside Pakistan continues to decline. Surprisingly the vocal popular support for Islamic terrorism in Pakistan was suddenly muted in late January as the military made some unexpected concessions regarding its support for terrorism and the government was able to go after a major Islamic charity that was long known (by literally everyone) as a front for Islamic terrorist fund raising. What caused this sudden change was the unexpected American threat to declare Pakistan a supporter of Islamic terrorism and restrict the movement of Pakistanis to and from the United States. What made this threat so convincing is that the newly (since January 20 th ) installed U.S. government started keeping campaign promises and banned seven nations (Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen) that have long been the source of most Islamic terrorism. Many in South Asia believe Pakistan should be on the list. Afghanistan and India have long called for such action against Pakistan but Pakistanis thought the Americans would never do it. The leaders of Pakistan's Islamic parties, who normally call for violent demonstrations against any effort to shut down Islamic terrorists who only attack outside Pakistan were quiet. That was because many of their key supporters may be enthusiastic about Islamic terrorism, they are more concerned about family in the West, especially the United States, or seeking to go there. The Islamic political parties have grown stronger since the military cracked down on anti-Pakistan Islamic terrorists in 2014. But now even the military is concerned about Pakistan being labeled what it has long been; a major supporter of Islamic terrorism. The fear may not last, but it's a refreshing change of attitude for people in the region, including most Pakistanis.

Meanwhile there is less Islamic terrorist violence in Pakistani. In 2016 there were only 1,893 Islamic terrorism related deaths and for January 2017 the number was a quarter of the deaths for January 2016. Yet Pakistan remains the primary source of support for Islamic terrorism in the region. It is becoming increasingly difficult to deny this as more and more evidence surfaces. This has led to open discussions about how to deal with the mess these lies have gotten Pakistan into. Some of these public discussions feature Pakistani officials saying that to move against all Islamic terrorists in Pakistan too aggressively would mean more Islamic terrorist attacks inside Pakistan and that is not acceptable. While maintaining some terrorist sanctuaries makes sense to many Pakistanis it simply angers Afghanistan and India (and now Bangladesh as well) because they have long suffered from Pakistan based Islamic terror groups that had (and still have) sanctuary in Pakistan and until recently any Pakistani openly admitting that would be called a traitor and risk prison or death.

What has been changing Pakistani attitudes towards this official denial was the growing evidence that the Pakistani position was all a lie and a self-destructive one at that. That includes Pakistan trying to blame all Islamic terrorist violence inside Pakistan on foreigners (usually India). This became embarrassing when Pakistani Islamic terrorists would get on the Internet and provide evidence that they, not India, did it. The Afghans and Americans also lost their patience with years of Pakistani promises that "they were working on the problem" when, in fact, that was all for show.

Britain
Westminster killer round-up
The Daily Mail waxed lurid, reporting on Khalid Masood's massive drug sessions and prostitute binges throughout his life, at the end funded by "hundreds a month in housing benefits and income support."

The Guardian reported the police have concluded he acted alone and there were no further actions planned. Also,

A 58-year-old man arrested in Birmingham remained in custody on Saturday while a 32-year-old woman from Manchester has been released on bail.

Police are investigating media reports that Masood checked his encrypted messaging service WhatsApp – or even sent a message – just before the attack, which hinted at others being involved. The police statement confirming that he was a lone actor does not appear to support suggestions that he had been in touch with an accomplice.

Fifteen people are still being treated in hospital.

Another Guardian article explores trends, tendencies and statistical commonalities of those who commit domestic jihad attacks.

A Telegraph article dwelt on his violence, how he sought therapy for his urges to kill and was violent and controlling during his brief marriege to wife #2. But he also was devoted to one of his daughters with his first wife, spending hours at her bedside after she was hit by a truck. The girl eventually followed him into Islam, going so far as to wear a niqab.

An Nahar reports a confirmation from the Saudis:

The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in London says that the Westminster attacker was in the country three times and taught English there.

A statement released late Friday says Khalid Masood taught English in Saudi Arabia from November 2005 to November 2006 and again from April 2008 to April 2009. The embassy says he had a work visa. It says he returned for six days in March 2015.

The embassy says he wasn't tracked by Saudi security services and didn't have a criminal record there.

Since I am running late with this, on Sunday morning the Daily Mail reported a raid in Birmingham on the family of children Mr. Masood took to the mosque with his own. Computers and documents were taken.

Arabia
Saudi Writer: Arab World Doomed To Fail If Its Culture Not Held Up To Critical Light
[Breitbart IS] TEL AVIV ‐ The Arab and Muslim world will remain in the dark ages unless it confronts the reason for its culture of hate, a Saudi columnist wrote in Al Arabiya last week, and claimed that the rise of what he termed the "extremist right-wing" in the West is a reaction to Islamic extremism.
The Saudi columnist, Mohammed Al-Shaikh, previously has espoused views supportive of President Donald Trump.

In his latest column, Al-Shaikh begins by noting that had Europeans not subjected their medieval beliefs and attitudes to critical analysis, "They would still be repeating priestly statements that call for violence and base them on sectarian and religious pillars."

According to Al-Shaikh, the Arab and Muslim world is still stuck at the juncture the West left behind during the Enlightenment, with a belief system based on emotion and not on logic, reason and facts.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
‘Tombstones Across the Landscape of Our Nation'
[Politico] The hollowed-out towns of Trump’s America, as seen through the eyes of a French photographer.

Emmanuel Georges was 21 when he came to the United States for the first time in 1986, and he took hundreds of photos on the two cameras he took with him on his 15,000-mile trip around the country. But it wasn’t until he returned, 25 years later, that he was able to fully revisit what caught his eye the first time: The post-industrial shells of towns that remained after companies bled workers and business to automation and overseas labor.

He started his later photo project in 2010, traveling everywhere from Nebraska to Ohio to Texas at the height of the recession--and as Americans were starting to take a close look at what, exactly, had happened in the past few decades as manufacturing jobs had disappeared and bonds, dotcoms and housing had all gone south in a series of busts. "I was really asking myself about what this country looks like now, 50 years after its political and economic climax," Georges, who is French, says about the photos.

Donald Trump’s election has been widely interpreted as a reaction to that decline, and in his inauguration speech, the new president gave a nod to the "rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation." But Georges says he was less interested in politics than in the "poetic aspects of the landscape." In these places, "life is a little bit suspended," he says. Still, his photos show us that the factors that completely disrupted American politics in 2016 and prompted a national conversation about globalization’s winners and losers have been coming for a long time--long enough for an outsider to observe three decades ago.

Above, a transfer and storage facility in Butte, Montana. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, a mining boom attracted 100,000 people to the town. The population has been in the mid 30,000s for the past few decades.

David Gergen: ‘Worst 100 days of any presidency we've ever seen'
[CNN] CNN host Jake Tapper held a panel on Friday evening to take a closer look at the GOP pulling its health care bill today as well as the president’s response. President Donald Trump said on Friday that "The best thing we can do, politically speaking, is let Obamacare explode."

Previous White House senior aide David Gergen said the president’s response "was delusional in some ways." He said, "This is a man who just shoves it off on other people and described things in ways that are just misleading. I’m sure he’ll get better at this, and I think it’s also fair to say that a lot of presidents stumble. A lot of presidents had trouble in their first hundred days."

However, Gergen continued, "When you add up the totality of it -- you (Tapper) said this is the worst week of his presidency. I actually think this may be the worst hundred days we’ve ever seen in a president."

CNN chief correspondent John King spoke to Gergen’s remark, pointing out that Trump is the President of the United States, "which means he’s president to those who like Obamacare, too. He’s their president, too."

"Imagine if a fire chief showed up -- [Trump] said Obamacare is exploding and we’re going to watch and let it explode, and then maybe we’ll do something about it," King continued. "It’s like a fire chief showing up, saying ’no, don’t squirt any water at that building , let’s just let it burn to the ground.'"

"He’s in charge now. I know he doesn’t like this program, I know he thinks the people who built this program made a mess. But guess what, he’s the president now. It’s his mess. He didn’t start it, but he inherited it," said King.

Europe
'The EU experience is over' Protesters take the streets of Rome as leaders gather
[Sunday Express] Federalists, nationalists, populists, unionists and anarchists were all catered for in the Italian capital which is also playing host to official events marking the 60th anniversary of the EU's founding treaty.

While 27 EU leaders - Theresa May was conspicuous by her absence - staged a solemn celebration on the ancient Capitoline Hill, thousands of ordinary people took to the streets, some waving the blue and gold flag of the crisis-plagued EU, others brandishing angry placards.

More than 30,000 demonstrators took part in the various gatherings with 5,000 police and security forces on standby in case of violence.

Poll: Only 35 Percent of Americans Want to Live in Sanctuary Cities
[Breitbart] A small minority of likely Americans voters say they want to live in sanctuary cities where criminal illegal immigrants are shielded from federal immigration law.

In a new Rasmussen poll, only 35 percent of Americans said they would like to live in a community that declared itself a "sanctuary city" while 52 percent would not. Some 14 percent were on the fence.

Working-class Americans are least likely to favor living in a sanctuary city, with only 25 percent supporting the idea and 63 percent opposing.

Wealthy Americans, on the other hand, are the most likely to support living in a sanctuary city. Forty-one percent stated support for sanctuary cities and 40 percent opposed the idea.

Even Americans who identify themselves as "liberal" are split on the issue. Roughly 54 percent say they would want to live in one, while 34 percent stand opposed.

Black Americans are less likely to support sanctuary policies than whites. A minority of 34 percent black voters and 36 percent of whites Americans feel the same.

When it comes to whether or not sanctuary cities are more safe or less safe than communities that do not shield illegal immigrants from federal immigration law, surprisingly young Americans are the most likely to say sanctuary cities are less safe.

Software Used to Predict Crime
[DefenseOne] Predictive-policing startup CivicScape published its code online, allowing anyone to help ensure that the algorithm doesn’t unfairly target certain groups of people.

Predictive policing, or the idea that software can foresee where crime will take place, is being adopted across the country—despite being riddled with issues. These algorithms have been shown to disproportionately target minorities, and private companies won’t reveal how their software reached those conclusions.

In an attempt to stand out from the pack, predictive-policing startup CivicScape has released its algorithm and data online for experts to scour, according to Government Technology magazine. The company’s Github page is already populated with its code, as well as a variety of documents detailing how its algorithm interprets police data and what variables are included when predicting crime.

#3  I'd go with this:

Capt. Kim Williams says authorities are not sure what prompted the shooting.

She says the scene was chaotic when the gunfire erupted but several officers working as security at the club performed first aid and tried to revive the person that died.

She says the crowd there is often very young and they have had trouble in the past, but "this is the worst by far".

At 1 a.m., two other (non-fatal) shootings there in 2015, and plenty of off-duty cops as security. Most of the witnesses fled.

Crime.

As I am typing this the television is reporting that the shooting was the outcome of a dispute that started earlier in the day and that there were four off-duty police officers there as hired security.

While starting the article Page 1 was correct, based on this information I am now moving it to Page 3.

Did he? How foolish of him, Mugsy Glink.

The Cincinnati Chief of Police is now on television making a announcement of What We Know:

The bar was very crowded. "Several" men got into a dispute before shots were fired. The dead man has been identified as Obrian [that's what it sounded like] Spikes, aged 27. Off-duty police are hired to patrol the parking lot, other security personnel inside the building are supposed to "wand" those entering the building [presumably for weapons]. Some of the wounded have already been treated and released from hospital.

The mayor is appealing for witnesses to come forward so the guilty can be punished.

Actor James Woods Posts the Ultimate List of What Democrats Have Done to America!
[Joe For America] Believe it or not there are still a few conservative actors in Hollywood and some are even on Twitter. A few are even entertaining, but James Woods is at the top of my list. I have to say, when it comes to solid genuine humor, James Woods delivers. Woods is not only very knowledgeable, but like President Trump, he’s unfiltered when it comes to stating the truth. He recently passed 600,000 followers, which is pretty amazing on Twitter, especially for a conservative Hollywood actor. On Sunday he posted a list of reasons why Americans are fed up with Democrats. You’ll love it!

Let criminals out.
Let illegals in.
Let boys in girl's locker rooms.
Let women kill their offspring.
Prosecute innocent officers.
Prosecute Christians.
Accept barbarity in the form of Islam.
Overtax the hard working.
Coddle the lazy.

This is what Democrats have created in America.

Now Democrats in Nebraska are rolling out the welcome wagon to refugees in the state, bringing them baskets full of goodies as well. But one item included is causing a bit of consternation.

BizPac Review reports, The Nebraska Democrat Party is handing new refugees voter registration cards they are ineligible to use.

#1  On Drudge Report there is an article about numerous small liberal churches in the liberal oasis of Austin, Texas giving sanctuary to illegals.

If you drive through Austin, it is shocking to see the number of blacks and whites living under the bridges and on vacant lots. The number of these people is astounding to see. And these very same churches do nothing for them, except harbor the people who are taking away the jobs and driving down wages throughout the city.

#2  To add to CC's remarks, living under bridges in Austin is a very bad idea. Huge colonies of bat's migrate in and out of Austin every year, and live under the bridges during daylight. They poop. The poop is somewhat toxic. I believe this is where the phrase "Bat S*it Crazy" comes from. So, they are not simply ignoring their own citizens, they may well be condemning some to biochemical insanity, as they sleep under bridges with the bats, and the pols service the refugees with their baskets.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
NSA WhistleBlower Bill Binney Tells Tucker Carlson NSA Spying on All Branches of Government [VIDEO]
[eHeadlines] Bill Binney
a 30 year veteran of the NSA and whistleblower,
appeared on Tucker Carlson Friday night. He dropped a bombshell when he told Tucker that the NSA spies on every branch of government on a daily basis. Trump was right on wiretapping.

This bombshell revelation really exposes the level of corruption we are dealing with inside of the NSA.

Binney: "Inside NSA there are a set of people who are -- and we got this from another NSA whistleblower who witnessed some of this -- they’re inside there, they are targeting and looking at all the members of the Supreme Court, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Congress, both House and Senate, as well as the White House."
"And all this data is inside the NSA in a small group where they’re looking at it. The idea is to see what people in power over you are going to -- what they think, what they think you should be doing or planning to do to you, your budget, or whatever so you can try to counteract before it actually happens,"
The Feds did their best to ruin Binney’s life after he stood up against the NSA and exposed the illegal spying.

We need more Patriots like him who are prepared to stand up and expose any illegal activity that they see within the government.

Maxine Waters Admits: Obama Has Put In Place a Secret Database ‘Everything On Everyone' [VIDEO]
[eHeaadlines] Liveleak unearthed an interview with Maxine Waters where she admits that because eventually he would not be in charge, that Obama has created a HUGE "Secret Database"!

Waters was speaking in an interview on the Roland Martin show when he asked her, "What happens in 2016?

From Joe For America

Waters very candidly admits:
"The President has put in place an organization with the kind of database that no one has ever seen before in life," Representative Maxine Waters told Roland Martin on Monday.

"That’s going to be very, very powerful," Waters said. "That database will have information about everything on every individual on ways that it’s never been done before and whoever runs for President on the Democratic ticket has to deal with that. They’re going to go down with that database and the concerns of those people because they can’t get around it. And he’s [President Obama] been very smart. It’s very powerful what he’s leaving in place."
That video only has 13,000 views. This was not done in secret. This video and interview was seen little and talked about less when it came out in 2013.

We are also reporting today that Freedom Watch has uncovered some disgusting information as well.

Our own Nancy Hayes reports that a massive amount of data on 47 hard drives from a government whistle blower was turned over to the Freedom Watch group recently.

Americans should be OUTRAGED! It looks pretty solid that Illegal and unconstitutional electronic surveillance was committed by the Obama administration. Not only did the illegal electronic surveillance involve Obama, it involved several top level officials within the NSA, CIA, DHS, FBI and Treasury Department. Heads should roll! President Trump was right when he said he was "wiretapped" by Obama and "The Hammer" is about to go down.

The information proves Obama and company spied on everyone. He has spied on Trump! He has most likely spied on many of you!

Caribbean-Latin America
'Islamic State' and the mosques of Trinidad
[DW] A rude Caribbean awakening: The jihadist group "Islamic State" is recruiting in the island state of Trinidad and Tobago, just a short flight from the United States. Why are they targeting the Caribbean?

"Our situation socially and economically is a driving factor," says Umar Abdullah, the leader of The Islamic Front in Trinidad. He told DW that people weren't just going to war for religious reasons: Part of their motivation was that they couldn't find jobs. Also, according to Abdullah, "The government has shamed Moslem men and women and locked them up, and accused them of crimes, and accused them of wanting to commit terrorist acts."

Around 1.3 million people live on Trinidad and Tobago. Six percent of the population identifies as Moslem. According to information from the local Ministry for National Security, in the past four years 130 fighters and numerous family members have traveled to Syria. By way of comparison, in the United States, with 320 million inhabitants, that figure was 250.

Afghanistan
Pentagon: US drone strike in Afghanistan killed a senior Al-Qaeda militant
[DW] The US military has confirmed that a US dronezap in eastern Afghanistan on March 19 killed the senior al-Qaeda military commander Qari Yasin. He had been linked to numerous attacks in his native Pakistain.

Qari Yasin was killed in a US dronezap in Barmal District of Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
Province in Afghanistan. Three of his accomplices were also reportedly killed in the strike.

"The death of Qari Yasin is evidence that holy warriors who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice," US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a statement.

Yasin was accused of plotting the 2008 bombing on a Marriott Hotel in Islamabad that killed dozens of people, including two US service members.

Yasin was affiliated with several terrorist organizations and had assisted bad boy outfits Jundallah
..."Soldiers of God," a name used by two separate terror outfits, one active in Iran and the other in Pakistain. Both are Sunni organizations that target Shiites. The Pak version has close relations with al-Qaeda and the Pak Talibs and is probably a false nose and mustache for Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
and al-Qaeda in several attacks.

Yasin - a native of the Pak region of Balochistan

who had ties to the Tehrik-e-Taliban group - was wanted by the Federal Investigation Agency for attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009, GHQ Rawalpindi, ISI Lahore Office, Marriott Hotel and a kaboom at Data Darbar Lahore, among other terrorist attacks.

Yasin was also believed to be behind attacks on Pakistain Army colonel and Punjab

Security forces detain 6 in Herat
The Afghan Intelligence operatives have arrested a group of six militants involved in major terrorist activities in western Herat province of Afghanistan.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) in a statement said the militants were arrested during an operation conducted by the Special Forces of the Afghan Intelligence.

The statement further added that the group was led by commander Safiullah.
The other militants detained have been identified as Mushfiq, Wahidullah, Ghulam Mohammad, Baharuddin, and Syed Esa.

According to NDS, the group was actively involved in some major terrorist related activities in the vicinity of Enjil district.

The detained militants have confessed that they were involved in the murder of two police officers, one policeman, and several other terrorist activities.

Herat is among the relatively calm provinces in western Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militant groups are active in some of its remote districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

The province also witnessed deadly clashes among the rival Taliban groups last year and earlier this year which left scores of people dead.

Afghanistan
2 ISIS leaders among 22 killed in Nangarhar province
At least twenty two militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed in a series of airstrikes conducted in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces in Eastern Afghanistan said the airstrikes were carried out on Friday in the vicinity of Nazian district.

The source further added that the militants were targeted in Milwa area of Nazian district.

The ISIS leaders killed in the airstrikes have been identified as Shino and Zargul.

Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militant groups have recently increased their insurgency activities in some parts of the province during the recent years.

Both the Afghan and US forces conducted regular strikes against the loyalists of the terror group in this province.

The increased raids, usually involving drone strikes, by the US forces followed a broader role granted by the Obama administration earlier last year.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are also conducting counter-terrorism operations led by 201st Silab Corps which were launched last month to eliminate the loyalists of the terror group from this province.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
16 die in airstrike in east Ghouta
BEIRUT: At least 16 civilians were killed and dozens wounded on Saturday in an airstrike on an opposition-held area outside Syria’s capital Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

It said it was not immediately clear who was responsible for the strike on the town Hammuriyeh in the opposition bastion of Eastern Ghouta.

“Sixteen civilians, including a child, were killed and around 50 others wounded in an airstrike on the main street in the town of Hammuriyeh,” Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

It was not immediately clear if all the wounded were civilians or if some were opposition fighters, he said, adding that the death toll could rise further because a number of the injured were in serious condition.

The Eastern Ghouta region outside Damascus has been under a devastating regime siege since 2012, and is also the regular target of regime airstrikes and artillery fire.
It is the last remaining opposition stronghold near Damascus, where a string of local “reconciliation deals” have seen villages and towns brought back under the control of President Bashar Assad’s regime.

Syria’s Army and its allies retook a village near Hama on Saturday, a Syrian military source said, as the regime tried to turn back a major insurgent offensive, but bitter fighting continued, the Observatory said.

Assad and his allies, Russia, Iran and Shiite militias from nearby countries, are seeking to staunch the biggest opposition assault in months which began this week in Damascus and the Hama countryside.

Insurgents have made big advances toward Hama, taking about a dozen towns and villages and moving to within a few kilometers of the city and its military airbase, the Observatory said.

“Units of our armed forces and allied forces restored the town of Kawkab and continue their military operations in more than one direction of the northern Hama countryside,” the military source said.

The Observatory said opposition fighters had been forced to withdraw under rocket fire from some of the positions they had occupied, but mutual shelling in parts of the Hama battlefront continued.

In Damascus, the army said it had managed to recapture all the positions it lost early in the week to the opposition in the Jobar area, which is on the northeastern fringe of the central district of the capital.

In another development, the second phase of an evacuation of opposition fighters in Homs as part of a deal to surrender the city’s last insurgent pocket of Al-Waer to the regime has been delayed until Monday, a senior official and a war monitor said on Saturday.

Homs Province Gov. Talal Barazi was cited by city officials in a message to Reuters as saying the operation would continue on Monday after having earlier said it would go ahead as planned on Saturday.

The Observatory said the evacuation was being postponed because of the fighting that began on Tuesday in Hama province.

The departure of a first group of opposition fighters and their families from Al-Waer began a week ago and the evacuation is expected to be one of the largest of its kind, opposition activists and the war monitor, the Observatory said.

Under the deal, as with others that have been previously agreed for besieged pockets, insurgents are able to leave with light weapons for opposition-held parts of northern Syria along with family members and other civilians who choose to depart.

Between 10,000-15,000 people were expected to leave Homs in weekly batches, the Observatory and opposition activists have said.

More than 320,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in March 2011 with anti-regime protests.

Regime ally Russia and opposition backer Turkey brokered a nationwide truce in December, but violence has continued across the country.

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
’s news outlet, Amaq, has reported the suicide kaboom that killed six people in Shibbari, Sylhet on Saturday evening.

It reported on its Telegram channel that the kaboom, that took place near the Lion of Islam den that law enforcement and the army were raiding, had killed "tens of people."

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the short message did not call it a suicide kaboom or claim any responsibility.

Tasneem Khalil, a Sweden-based journalist specialising in terrorism, provided this rough translation of the original Arabic broadcast: "A security official/source to Amaq: Tens of dead and injured among Bangladeshi troops following the kaboom of an bomb at a gathering of troops/forces near a checkpoint in Sylhet, northeast of Bangladesh."
The Times of Israel adds:
Sylhet police front man Zedan Al Musa said police primarily blame a new faction of the homegrown Lion of Islam group, Jamayetul ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which has been blamed for a wave of attacks in recent years, for the blasts.

Four killed, scores injured in suicide blast outside Sylhet den
[DhakaTribune] In the middle of an ongoing joint operation to penetrate a murderous Moslem hideout in Sylhet’s Shibbari, a jacket wallah went kaboom! himself outside, killing at least three people. Around 40 others were maimed.

Such a suicide attack on an unsuspecting crowd is the first of its kind in Bangladesh.
The bomb went off around 6:45pm on Saturday in the middle of a crowd of at least 500-600 people who were standing about 250 metres from the murderous Moslem den.

Three of the injured died at Osmani Medical College Hospital. They were Court Inspector Abu Kawser, local Chhatra League

11 dead as migrant boat sinks off Turkey coast: Report
[AlAhram] Eleven people drowned and four were missing after a migrant boat sank off Turkey's Aegean coast on Friday, local media reported.

The bodies of the dead were found on a shore in the western province of Aydin, the private Dogan news agency reported.

Seven others were found alive on the inflatable dinghy, the agency said.

The drownings come less than a week after the first anniversary of the EU-Turkey agreement to halt migrant arrivals in Europe, which sharply reduced the number of crossings to the bloc from Turkey.

But Ankara has raised alarms in Brussels by threatening in recent weeks to scrap the agreement, which came into force after an estimated 1.26 million migrants reached Europe in 2015.

Europe and Turkey are locked in a bitter dispute after Turkish ministers were blocked from campaigning on the continent for a "yes" vote in next month's referendum on boosting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's powers.

According to the International Organization for Migration, there were around 363,000 migrant arrivals in Greece in 2016 after the Turkey-EU accord.

Under the deal, Turkey undertook to tighten its maritime borders and break up the people-smuggling networks that had helped migrants to make the risky crossing in exchange for billions of euros in support for refugees in Turkey.

Ankara has also criticised the EU for failing to fulfil its promise to give visa-free travel in the Schengen zone to Turks as part of the agreement.

Mosul Offensive News

18 city sectors held by Iraqi forces in Mosul

Mosul (BasNews) Since the beginning of the western Mosul operation in February, the Iraqi army has managed to liberate 18 neighborhoods from the grip of Islamic State (IS), said an Iraqi counter-terrorism official.

Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, is considered IS’ main stronghold in Iraq where the group has recently been suffering bitter defeats at the hands of the Iraqi army, Peshmerga forces and the coalition airpower.

In January of this year, after more than three months of constant military operations, the Iraqi government announced the full liberation of eastern Mosul. It later launched a new phase of the assault on 19th of February to free the western part of the major city.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russian airstrikes hit targets in Hama
Russian warplanes flew over rebel-held areas near Hama, Syria in a rush to aid pro-regime Syrian forces losing ground, a Syrian source told Reuters on Friday.

State media later reported that regime forces allegedly recaptured all positions it had lost earlier, which is strategically accredited to accompanying Russian aerial bombardment of rebel sites.

Syrian opposition forces have previously made sweeping advances after leading a fierce assault in the north of the Jobar district of Damascus.

Rebel groups launched the attack on Tuesday and have captured at least 11 villages and towns, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based organization that reports on the war.

It marks the biggest attack by rebels in months. Rebel gains have shown the challenge facing the Syrian pro-regime forces and allied militia as they fight on numerous fronts.

“Air strikes have now started, and there is concentrated artillery firing against the armed groups and the headquarters of their leaders and supply lines, paving the way for the counter-attack,” the military source told Reuters.

“The Russians are, of course, participating in these raids.” Rebel groups were focusing their attack on Friday on the village of Qomhana, some 8 km , north of Hama city, Observatory Director Rami Abdulrahman said.

The fighting has underscored the bleak prospects for a new round of United Nations sponsored peace talks that are underway in Geneva.

Sar-e-Pul mosque bomb plot uncovered
A deadly plot by the anti-government armed militants to detonate explosives inside a mosque in northern Sar-e-Pul province has been foiled by the Afghan security forces.

According to the local government officials, the militants were looking to target the Friday prayers in Guzar Shahan mosque.

Provincial governor Mohammad Mohammad Zahir Wahdat said a suspect has been arrested in connection to the planting of an Improvised Explosive Device inside the mosque.

He said the suspect has been identified as Basir and was arrested by the security forces after he planted the IED in the mosque.

Wahdat further added that the Afghan security forces managed to detect and defuse the IED before the militants manage to detonate and a deadly terrorist attack plot was foiled.

Sar-e-Pul province has been among the relatively calm provinces since the fall of the Taliban regime but the anti-government armed militants have increased their insurgency activities in this province during the recent years.

The anti-government armed militants including the Taliban insurgents frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces and government officials.

According to the UN mission in Afghanistan, it documented 11,418 civilian casualties between 1st January 2016 to 31st December, 2016.

According to the report, 61 percent of all civilian casualties were incurred through attacks by the anti-government elements which includes a total of 6,994 civilian casualties (2,131 deaths and 4,863 injured).

Philippine soldiers kill two Abu Sayyaf terrorists

Six to ten commies killed in Cotabato clash
[Manila Times] Eighty families were evacuated when about 50 members of the New People's Army attacked a para-military detachment of CAFGU (Citizen’s Armed Forces Geographical Unit) in Tampakan, South Cotabato on Friday morning. The fierce firefight lasted for almost seven hours and families in the area were forced to abandon their houses.

A military source estimated that about six to ten militants were killed when two 105mm howitzers bombarded the area. The militants managed to retrieve their injured comrades and fled during the heavy fighting.

Colonel Benjamin Leander, head of the Philippine Army's 27th Infantry Battalion, believed the attackers are from the NPA's 73 District Guerilla Unit of the Far South Mindanao Command front.

Police provincial director Frank Alvero said they have received intelligence reports about the NPA's threat to carry out attacks in various parts of South Cotabato “and on Friday they attacked at 6 in the morning as we made our effort to reinforce and help the 27th IB,PA joining the counter operation against the NPA."

Meanwhile, a voice message from certain "Ka Efren" of the NPA Far South Mindanao command dispatched through a local radio claimed they were responsible in the ambush of private Albino Bahian who was killed during a clash with the NPA Guerilla Front 73 in Barangay Hinalaan, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat last week.

Two Charged over Arms Supply to French Airport Attacker
[AnNahar] French anti-terrorism judges have charged two men suspected of involvement in supplying a weapon to the gunman killed at Gay Paree's Orly airport after attacking soldiers, a judicial source said Saturday.

The suspects, aged 30 and 43, were charged Friday for "association with terrorist criminals" over the March 18 attack and are being held in jug, the source said.

The younger one was also charged with arms possession related to a terror plot. They are both from the Gay Paree area and lived close to the assailant, Ziyed Ben Belgacem,
...yet another older, violent petty criminal who suddenly decided to redeem himself by committing jihad not far from home...
according to a preliminary investigation.
Just being neighbourly, donchaknow.
Ben Belgacem, 39, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he attacked the capital's second busiest airport, according to judicial sources.

Ben Belgacem, born in La Belle France to Tunisian parents, grabbed a soldier on patrol at Orly's southern terminal and put a gun to her head and seized her rifle, saying he wanted to "die for Allah".

His father insisted his son -- who had spent time in prison for armed robbery and drug-dealing -- was not a holy warrior.

He had, however, been investigated in 2015 over suspicions he had been radicalised while serving jail time, but his name did not feature on the list of those thought to pose a high risk.

The attack at Orly came with La Belle France still on high alert following a wave of jihadist attacks that have claimed more than 230 lives in two years.

The violence has made security a key issue in La Belle France's two-round presidential election on April 23 and May 7.

Houthis could put detainees in line of fire
Taiz – Houthi and Saleh militias have started transferring Hodeidah city detainees into unknown locations, according to informed sources in the western Yemeni city.

They expressed fear that Houthis will turn these areas into targets for coalition forces, which usually strikes military bases and arms warehouses.

The sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that Houthi militias felt threatened as national army and Arab coalition forces advanced on the coastal city and have started preparing to liberate its port from these militias, who abruptly transferred their detainees to unknown places without informing their relatives.

Houthi militias told the relatives, who used to be allowed to visit their loved ones in the political security prison, that the detainees are no longer in the facility, refusing to divulge their new location, according to the sources.

The parents of the detainees in Hodeidah, one of the largest port cities in Yemen, fear that Houthi militias will use the detainees as military targets for the coalition’s airplanes, especially following the debate over the liberation of the city by the Yemeni army and coalition forces.

Previously a civil port, Houthi militias have used Hodeidah as a military base and a station for human trafficking.

The parents held Houthi militias responsible for the life of the detainees in case they were harmed in anyway, urging local and international human rights and humanitarian organizations to exert immediate efforts to reveal the fate of their loved ones.

On the other hand, Popular Resistance forces in Tihama continued their military operations against positions, targets and military patrols affiliated with Houthi and Saleh militias in various areas in the province. It is also targeted members of the militia in Hodeidah city.

Six Russian Troops Killed as Rebels Attack Chechen Base
[AnNahar] Six Russian troops died in the early hours of Friday when a group of Lions of Islam attacked their base in Chechnya, with six rebels killed in the resulting shootout, the National Guard said.

Russia's National Guard, established last year, is a new branch of internal troops aimed at defending borders and countering extremism.

It is subordinate directly to President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
and has bases in the country's volatile North Caucasus regions including Chechnya.

In a statement, the National Guard said the rebels tried to storm their base in heavy fog at around 2:30 am local time (Thursday 2330 GMT) but were spotted by a group of soldiers who opened fire.

"Six of the attackers were destroyed," the statement said. "During the armed combat, six military were killed and there are maimed."

None of the Lions of Islam managed to enter the base, the National Guard said.

Counter-terrorism troops, Sherlocks and explosives experts from the security forces are at the scene, it said.

Chechnya was the scene of two separatist wars in the 1990s and early 2000s, but the region has been largely pacified under the iron-fisted rule of strongman leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

Two National Guard soldiers were killed in a Chechen village in January during a joint operation with police and special forces in which four suspected holy warriors were also killed.

The Russian North Caucasus is one of the major sources of foreign jihadists fighting in Syria and Iraq.

In January Kadyrov said his forces had detained more than 50 Lions of Islam linked to the Islamic State

Woman Votes For Donald Trump Because Of His Promise To Deport Illegal Immigrants, Her Illegal Immigrant Husband Is Then Promptly Deported
[Buzzfeed]
ergo the "Salt" .gif.
A Mexican man who entered the United States illegally almost 20 years ago is set to be deported on Friday, amid an uptick in detentions by immigration agents emboldened by President Donald Trump -- whom the man’s own wife voted for.

Roberto Beristain, 43, has been in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers since he was detained on Feb. 6 in Indianapolis, department spokeswoman Leticia Zamarripa told BuzzFeed News.

The Mexican national, who owns a steak restaurant in the Indiana town of Granger, arrived in the country in 1998 before being detained two years later and ordered to leave.

It was during his annual check-in with agents in Indianapolis in February that he was suddenly arrested, becoming one of hundreds of undocumented immigrants detained since President Trump took office.

"They came outside, knocked on the window," Helen Beristain told Indiana Public Media earlier this month. "They said, ’Are you Roberto’s wife?’ And, I said ’Yes.’ And, they said, ’Well, your husband is being detained because of a deportation [order] 16 and a half years ago.’ And, I said, ’That’s a joke.’ And, they said, ’No, it’s true.’"

Helen Beristain told Indiana Public Media she voted for President Trump believing that only "killers" and cartel members would be deported.
Oopsie!
"We don’t want to have cartels here, you don’t want to have drugs in your high schools, you don’t want killers next to you," she said. "You want to feel safe when you leave your house. I truly believe that. And, this is why I voted for Mr. Trump."

"They’re distraught," he said of the family, adding that they did not wish to speak to media on Thursday. "They have lost a husband, a father, a main breadwinner."

Helen Beristain indicated to Indiana Public Media that she felt misled by the president’s plans.

"[Trump] did say the good people would not be deported, the good people would be checked," Helen Beristain said.

Bangladesh
Autopsy: Airport attacker strapped bomb to his body
[DhakaTribune] After conducting the autopsy, Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Forensic Medicine Department head Dr Shohel Mahmud said the suspected myrmidon found dead in the blast near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was killed by an explosive.

Doctors say the bomb that went kaboom! in front of Dhaka airport on Friday was tied to the attacker’s body in the same fashion as previous jacket wallahs.

After conducting the autopsy, Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Forensic Medicine Department head Dr Shohel Mahmud said the suspected myrmidon found dead in the blast near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport was killed by an explosive.

The doctor told news hounds that two pieces of wire, about 54 inches in total, along with several splinters, were found from the myrmidon’s body.

"It appears that the bomb was fastened around his lower back and was connected to a regulator in his hand.

"The evidence suggests that he was a suicide bomber," Shohel said.

The 40-minute autopsy conducted by a three-member medical board started at 12pm on Saturday. The two other members of the board were DMC lecturer Dr Prodip Biswas and Dr Kabir Shohel.

He also said the identity of the myrmidon could not yet be ascertained. Therefore, the board has collected his hair for a DNA test.

"We also collected his urine, blood samples and viscera," he added.

When asked whether there were any similarities between the recent blast and the suicide kaboom at a RAB camp in Ashkona on March 17, the doctor said the torso of the first myrmidon was ripped apart, whereas the midriff of this myrmidon was ruptured.

"We can say the pattern of the kaboom is similar," Shohel added.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
on Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia claimed the kaboom near the Dhaka’s airport was not a suicide kaboom.

He said that it might not have been a suicide kaboom, but a lethal slip when the terrorist had been spooked out and detonated the bombs early.
Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia had made her point with her knee to Jane's stomach...
airport cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge Nur-e-Azam Mia told Dhaka Tribune a case has not yet been lodged over the incident.

The bomber was killed as he attempted to attack a police check post at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport intersection in Dhaka around 8pm on Friday.

The attack came just after seven days after another suicide kaboom near a temporary camp of the elite Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) police force in Ashkona Hajj Camp area of Dhaka.

RAB steps into 13th year
[DhakaTribune] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite team of Bangladesh Police, which was formed on March 26, 2004 and started its operations on April 14, 2004 with the motto ’Bangladesh Amar Ohonkar’ (Bangladesh is my pride) has stepped into 13th year today.

It consists of the members of Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Ansar and VDP.

Despite having many controversies of crossfire, forced disappearance incidents, extrajudicial killings and arbitrary arrests, the force has achieved many successes in combating terrorism and militancy including the arrests of Mufti Hannan and Bangla Bhai.

Many rights organizations including Human Rights Watch have been repeatedly urging the government to ban the force alleging its involvement in unauthorised activities.

Preventing human trafficking and containing robbers of Sundarban are other two achievements in the force’s history.

Extra judicial act which was executed by RAB first came into spotlight after they shot Limon Hossain, a college student, in Jhalakathi on March 23, 2011.

In January 2017, 25 former RAB officials were found guilty in the sensational Seven Murder Case of Narayanganj. Total of 26 ex-RAB officials were awarded with death penalty and another nine received jail for seven to 17 years.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said: "People will evaluate our success. If the people face issues they come to RAB first. They think if they can reach us they will find quick remedy.

"We do not find any base of the controversy on crossfire and encounter. We caught different type of criminals during different drives. None of them faced crossfire. Crossfire and encounter take place when it is a must."

Here's hoping, in all the kerfluffle, that The Suttergun (TM) and its Round Of Bullet (TM) were preserved for prosterity.

How do you say, "Git 'er done" in Banglideshi? I am sure that's their motto.

#4  Crossfire and encounter take place when it is a must.

There is the crux of the biscuit. Justice in the American West was quick and harsh at times, before the whole civilization thing caught on. You can't have a lawn until you kill off the weeds and chase away the fire ants.

NGOs and the usual whiners aside, I'd bet the RAB is quite popular with the common folk. Good hunting, boys!

Libya Court Suspends Italy Deal on Tackling Migration
[AnNahar] A Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
court has suspended a deal between Libya and Italia to limit irregular migration to Europe, the unity government's justice ministry said.

Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and his Libyan counterpart Fayez al-Sarraj signed the deal in February to tackle people smuggling through the North African country.

Italia pledged money, coastguard training and equipment to assist the U.N.-backed government in efforts to address Europe's biggest migrant crisis since World War II.

But an appeals court in Tripoli this week suspended implementation of the deal, the justice ministry said Thursday.

"The justice ministry of the Government of National Accord confirms that the court is still examining the issue in order pending a ruling, and that no final judgment has been issued," it said.

The GNA is not recognized by Libya's parliament, which backs a rival administration in the country's east.

The Tobruk-based parliament on February 8 declared the Italia deal "null and void."

It argued the GNA had "no legal status in the Libyan state" as it had not been approved by parliament.

European leaders have ramped up efforts to curb migration from Libya amid a sharp rise in the number of people trying to cross.

One year after a controversial deal with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to stop migrants colonists setting out across the Aegean Sea for Greece, they are seeking a similar accord with conflict-hit Libya.

Human rights groups fiercely oppose the plan, saying they are concerned about mistreatment of migrants colonists stranded in Libya.

Smugglers have taken advantage of lawlessness in Libya since the 2011 fall of strongman Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
to establish the country as a major people trafficking route.

Most migrants colonists set off from the country's west in the direction of Italia's Lampedusa, a 300-kilometer (190-mile) trip.

The Spanish group Pro-Activa Open Arms said some 250 African migrants colonists died Thursday when two inflatable boats sank off Libya.
