Israel Unveils Joint US-Juice Missile Interceptor - Warns Hezbies
Ay-Pee
A joint U.S.-Israeli missile interceptor meant to counter the type of medium-range missiles possessed by Iranian-backed Hezbollah militants became operational Sunday, completing Israel's multi-layer defense system amid tensions on its frontiers with Syria and Gaza.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the unveiling ceremony for the David's Sling system that defending the home front is of the "utmost importance." He went on to warn "whoever tries to strike us will be hit, those that threaten our existence put themselves in existential danger."

David Sling's marks the completion of Israel's multi-tier system that includes the Arrow, designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles in the stratosphere with an eye on Iran, and Iron Dome, which defends against short-range rockets from the Gaza Strip.

David's Sling was developed by Israeli defense firm Rafael with American defense giant Raytheon.

The system became operational Sunday amid heightened tensions along Israel's northern borders with Lebanon and Syria.

In a rare clash along the Syrian border last month Israel shot down an anti-aircraft missile fired at its planes as they were carrying out an airstrike on a suspected Hezbollah weapons convoy from Syria to Hezbollah militants in Lebanon.

The Grand Turk
Why the Pentagon doesn't want Turkey's help in Syria
Like a marriage held together for the sake of the kids, the U.S. and Turkey keep saying nice things in public, while privately fuming and slowly drifting apart.

The growing rift between the two countries stems from the intractable dispute over the U.S. plan to liberate Raqqa with a loose coalition of Syrian fighters comprising roughly 40 percent Kurdish YPG militia members, who Turkey considers terrorists.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has offered his military to drive the Islamic State out of its self-proclaimed capital in Raqqa, if only the U.S. will quit the Kurds.

Turkey regards the Kurdish Popular Protection Units, or YPG, as an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK, which has been declared a terrorist group by both Turkey and the U.S.

But the Pentagon says the Kurds have proven to be the most battle-hardened and combat-effective force fighting ISIS in Syria, and it has no plans to abandon them now.
Good!
Publicly the U.S. says it's still working with its NATO ally Turkey to find a role for it in the upcoming Raqqa offensive, but here's the unspoken truth: The U.S. has also judged that the Turkish military is not up to the task, based on its performance in northern Syria.

On Aug. 24, Turkey launched "Operation Euphrates Shield," sending tank and troops into Syria with the stated objective of pushing ISIS back 60 miles from its shared border, and the unstated goal of keeping Kurdish forces from controlling an unbroken swath of land stretching back into Iraq.

This past week, Turkey declared Euphrates Shield a success and ended the mission, a move Pentagon sources say was in fact largely because the U.S., Russia and Syria stymied the Turkish offensive from any further gains.

The Turks did take the northern Syrian towns of Jarablus, Dabiq and al-Bab from ISIS, but their plan to move against the Kurds in Manbij was foiled when the U.S. positioned Army Rangers just outside the city and declared Manbij was in no further need of liberation.

And the Turkish forces had also suffered heavy losses in the fight against ISIS in al-Bab, or as one Pentagon official put it, "They got their asses kicked."

Polizei Accused of Covering Up What They Knew About Christkindlmarket Killer (Video)
[Breitbart] New documents suggest that the German police knew more about the threat posed by Tunisian terrorist Anis Amri than claimed, according to reports.

On December 19th 2016 Amri murdered a Polish haulier and stole his vehicle, which he later drove into a busting Christmas market in the German capital.

The Tunisian, who used multiple identities as he gamed the system in Germany, had already had his asylum application rejected and had even been subject to a deportation order before he committed his attack.

He has also been linked to radical Islam and multiple crimes ‐ but the police ended their undercover surveillance of the migrant in September 2016, claiming they had not found evidence of a threat.

Study finds young people increasingly defying expectations, embracing traditional gender roles
[Washington Examiner] A new study of high school seniors from the Council of Contemporary Families is raising eyebrows this week.

The results of the study, which analyzes the results of a survey that's tracked the opinions of high school seniors' for 40 years, suggest that young people are increasingly likely to support traditional gender roles in the home -- a finding that seems surprising given society's increasingly progressive outlook on gender.

Reporting on their findings, the authors wrote, "After becoming more egalitarian for almost twenty years, high school seniors' thinking about a husband's authority and divisions of labor at home has since become substantially more traditional."

Senate committee targets FBI No. 2, Andrew McCabe in Trump dossier probe
[Washington Examiner] Sen. Charles Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has sent a letter to FBI Director James Comey demanding the story behind the FBI's reported plan to pay the author of a lurid and unsubstantiated dossier on candidate Donald Trump. In particular, Grassley appears to be zeroing in on the FBI's deputy director, Andrew McCabe, indicating Senate investigators want to learn more about McCabe's role in a key aspect of the Trump-Russia affair.

Grassley began his investigation after the Washington Post reported on February 28 that the FBI, "a few weeks before the election," agreed to pay former British spy Christopher Steele to investigate Trump. Prior to that, supporters of the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign had paid Steele to gather intelligence on Clinton's Republican rival. In the end, the FBI did not pay Steele, the Post reported, after the dossier "became the subject of news stories, congressional inquiries and presidential denials." It is not clear whether Steele worked under agreement with the FBI for any period of time before the payment deal fell through.

"The idea that the FBI and associates of the Clinton campaign would pay Mr. Steele to investigate the Republican nominee for president in the run-up to the election raises further questions about the FBI's independence from politics, as well as the Obama administration's use of law enforcement and intelligence agencies for political ends," Grassley wrote in a letter to Comey dated March 28.

Grassley demanded the FBI turn over all its records relating to Steele and the dossier, in addition to "all FBI policies, procedures, and guidelines applicable when the FBI seeks to fund an investigator associated with a political opposition research firm connected to a political candidate, or with any outside entity."

But the most noteworthy thing about Grassley's letter is its focus on McCabe. Grassley noted that McCabe is already under investigation by the FBI's inspector general for playing a top role in the Hillary Clinton email investigation even though McCabe's wife accepted nearly $700,000 in political donations arranged by a close Clinton friend, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, for her run for state senate in Virginia.

"While Mr. McCabe recused himself from public corruption cases in Virginia...he failed to recuse himself from the Clinton email investigation," Grassley wrote, "despite the appearance of a conflict created by his wife's campaign accepting $700,000 from a close Clinton associate during the investigation."

The ministry posted a proposed voicemail message for its answering machines at Russia embassies.

An unnamed ministry duty officer confirmed that the post was a joke to the Associated Press.

Democrats Know the Election Was Legitimate but Persist in a Dangerous Fraud
[National Review] Horrifying!" inveighed an indignant Hillary Clinton at the last presidential debate, less than three weeks before Election Day. What so horrified her?

Donald Trump’s refusal to pledge that he would accept the legitimacy of the election. Trump speculated that the electoral process could be rigged. Until he saw how it played out, the Republican nominee said, he could not concede that the result would be on the up-and-up. Trump offered a three-part "rigging" claim.

There was the allegation for which he’d already been roundly derided: A foreign element could swing the election -- specifically, "millions" of ineligible voters, a reference to illegal immigrants, the bane of his campaign. Further, there was the gross one-sidedness of the media’s campaign coverage -- scathing when it came to him; between inattentive and fawning when it came to his opponent, whose considerable sins were airbrushed away. Finally, there was deep corruption: Clinton, he maintained, should not have been permitted to run given the significant evidence of felony misconduct in her mishandling of classified information.

Meanwhile, law-enforcement agencies of the Democratic administration bent over backwards to give her a pass, and congressional Democrats closed ranks around her -- conducting themselves in committee hearings more like her defense lawyers than investigators searching for the truth.

Jenny North at Victory Girls: Theory on 'High Level' Trump Unmasking
[Victory Girls] Devin Nunes is a patient man. The House Intelligence Committee Chairman from California knew about the subject matter of Trump’s infamous "wiretapping" tweet since January, but it was only recently that he was able to see proof of this surveillance. We are getting much closer to the source of the leaks and who unmasked private individuals. Be like Nunes. Be patient.

Slowly we are learning more about this surveillance that was conducted by the Obama administration. It appears that at least some of it was incidental to legitimate monitoring of Russian sources long before Trump’s campaign began. But the real scandal of the story is that the person responsible for exposing the names of private citizens affiliated with Trump’s team is not a lowly scofflaw or someone in the FBI.

Billionaire Mark Cuban: Trump couldn't have pulled off Russia collusion
[The Hill] Billionaire Mark Cuban on Saturday went on a tweetstorm explaining his theory about President Trump's ties to Russia, concluding he doesn't think Trump was behind any collusion during last year's presidential race.

"No chance this is a DJT led conspiracy," Cuban wrote in a series of tweets, referring to Trump's initials. He argued that Trump "isn't detail oriented, organized or big picture enough" to pull off any such "conspiracy."

Instead, Cuban argued in a series of tweets that Russian President Vladimir Putin "recognized [Trump's] greed and took advantage by back channeling coordinated misinformation in an attempt to influence voters."

"Russians have made him a lot of money buying condos and investing in his buildings and hosting his beauty pageant," Cuban wrote of Trump. "That makes them his friends. He ignored their backgrounds. But that's not unusual. Starbucks takes anyone's money and so do most businesses including mine."

The Dallas Mavericks owner went on to argue that Trump wasn't thinking about Russian influence when he hired Paul Manafort as a top adviser to his campaign. Trump viewed it as a "win win," Cuban argued, with Manafort either helping Trump win the election or being good for future business deals with Russia if he lost.

Cuban theorized that Trump didn't stop to think that Manafort or other advisers who joined his campaign and who had ties to Russia were motivated by Moscow. Trump was thinking more like a businessman than a politician, Cuban argued.

POTUS sends letter to Vietnam leader promoting better ties
[The Hill] President Trump wrote a letter to Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang last month promoting increased cooperation between their two countries, according to a statement posted on the Vietnamese government's website Friday.

"In his letter dated on February 23, President Donald Trump affirmed his wish to boost cooperation with Vietnam and work with the regional countries to ensure peace and prosperity in Asia-Pacific on the basis of international law," the statement says.

News of the letter came as U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, who also served under the Obama administration, met with Quang on Friday.

Relations between the U.S. and Vietnam strengthened under former President Barack Obama in response to a dispute with China in the South China Sea. Vietnam would have also been a key beneficiary of Obama's Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

UK Airports and nuclear power stations on terror alert as gov't officials warn of 'credible' cyber threat
[Telegraph] Britain’s airports and nuclear power stations have been told to tighten their defences against terrorist attacks in the face of increased threats to electronic security systems.

Psychologist Analyzes Trump's Election And The Progressive Left [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Sifting through the tumultuous aftermath of President Donald Trump’s election, a former clinical psychologist steeped in understanding cultural Marxism, shares his observations on how Democrats are working to distract and delegitimatize Trump.

According to Tim Daughtry, author of "Waking the Sleeping Giant," our elections since 2010 demonstrate citizens want Washington to stop governing against the will of the people as it drives the nation towards liberal progressive socialism. The clear 2016 ballot box message, he says, was "change course, secure our borders, get rid of Obamacare, put in some free market reforms, get our economy going again" with this man, who has never held elective office.

Daughtry says America is clearly facing a crisis over the "consent of the governed" as citizens demand a responsive national government, just as the British turned from globalism of the European Union in their surprising Brexit vote last June. Trump’s inaugural address echoed this very theme as, to cheers, he promised to transfer power back to the citizen, from a small Washington elite.

"The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of the country. Their victories have not been your victories," Trump said, echoing his defense of the "forgotten man and woman" who elected him.

A total of 262 asylum requests from Turkish citizens who have worked as diplomats or soldiers are currently being reviewed by Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), "Der Spiegel" reported on Saturday.

According to the news magazine, the BAMF had not yet made a decision on any of the cases.

Based on an assessment from the German foreign ministry, the BAMF is currently reworking its guidelines for The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, "Der Spiegel" reported. Because of this, the ratio of granted asylum requests from Turkey in Germany could soon rise.

The foreign ministry found that there are "clear indicators that there is a systematic persecution of alleged members of the Gulen movement" and that Ankara has made "excessive" terrorism accusations.

Saturday in southern La Belle France on suspicion of plotting a terror attack, a judicial source said.

The pair, aged 14 and 15, were taken in for questioning by the anti-terrorism prosecution service after a search of both girls’ homes turned up evidence suggesting they could have been planning an attack, a judicial source said.

"At this stage we do not know how far advanced the preparations were," a source close to the inquiry told AFP, adding no weapons had been found.

UN agrees to oversee Kurdistan independence referendum
[Iraq News] The independence referendum in Kurdistan Region will be held this year and the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
(UN) and the US will have a supporting role in the move, said Muhammed Haji Mahmud, Secretary General of Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party.

Mahmud told BasNews on Saturday that Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani is insisting on organizing an independence referendum in 2017, a move supported by all Kurdish factions.

The Kurds won’t be supported by the mountains alone this time, the US and UN will also support the imminent process, said the Kurdish political leader.

He further said that during his latest visit to Europe, Barzani made it clear to all the world leaders he met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference that Kurds seek to determine their future and declare statehood.

Mahmud added that the UN has partially agreed to oversee the referendum.

Barzani said, during a meeting with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday, that Kurdistan Region will soon hold a referendum on independence to show the will of the people to the world.

Rohingya rebel leader challenges Myanmar’s Suu Kyi, vows to fight on
[Dhaka Tribune] The leader of a Rohingya Moslem insurgency against Myanmar’s security forces said on Friday his group would keep fighting "even if a million die" unless the country’s leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, took action to protect the religious minority.

Attacks on Myanmar border guard posts in October last year by a previously unknown hard boy group ignited the biggest crisis of Suu Kyi’s year in power, with more than 75,000 Rohingya fleeing to Bangladesh in the ensuing army crackdown.

In his first independently conducted media interview, Ata Ullah, who has been identified by analysts and local people as the group’s leader, denied links to foreign Islamists and said it was focused on the rights of the Rohingya, who say they face persecution at the hands of Myanmar’s Buddhist majority.

Caribbean-Latin America
Venezuela crisis casts shadow over Ecuador presidential election
Venezuela's political crisis is looming over Sunday's tight presidential election in Ecuador, where a leftist government aligned with Venezuela's socialist President Nicolas Maduro is hoping to prolong its decade-long rule.

Ecuador pro-business candidate Guillermo Lasso has doubled down on accusations that government-backed candidate Lenin Moreno would turn the Andean country into Venezuela, alluding to a recent Supreme Court move there to neuter the National Assembly that foes denounced as a lurch into dictatorship.

"A coup annulling the National Assembly! Is that what you want?" right-wing challenger Lasso told a crowd of supporters at a rally in the sweltering city of Guayaquil this week. "Then let's go for change! Change is avoiding Venezuela's suffering."

The outgoing administration of Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa has scoffed at the accusations, slamming them as desperate attempts by Lasso, a former banker, to spook voters and cover up his plans to slash welfare programs.

"They've been trying to confuse the population with the argument that Ecuador is going to turn into Venezuela," Foreign Minister Guillaume Long said on Friday. "But no, Ecuador is not Venezuela."

The Ecuadorean economy, like the Venezuelan, is heavily dependent on oil and is suffering a downturn. But Ecuador's situation is a far cry from the full-blown crisis in Venezuela, where millions of people are suffering food shortages and raging inflation.

Critics have long accused Correa of clamping down on the press, stacking institutions with supporters and being hostile toward business - just as they see happening in Venezuela's self-styled "21st century Socialism."

Lasso accused "foreign mercenaries" - and alluded to them being Venezuelan - of trying to attack him with rocks, sticks, and knives after a soccer game on Tuesday. The Ecuadorean government rejected the accusation.

Iraq
Dozens of Bad Guys die in airstrike in Mosul
BAGHDAD: A government statement says Iraqi fighter jets have carried out airstrikes against the Daesh group outside Mosul, killing more than 100 militants.

Saturday’s statement says the strikes hit three Daesh targets in Baaj, a remote northwestern town near the Syrian border, and killed between 150-200 militants. It said the militants had crossed over from Syria, suggesting that Daesh still enjoys free movement across the borders.

The statement didn’t say when the strikes happened and officials were not available to offer more details. It could not be immediately verified.

Airstrikes by Iraqi Air Force and US-led international coalition have been vital to the months-long operation to retake Mosul from Daesh. In January, Iraqi authorities declared eastern Mosul “fully liberated.” Fighting is underway to recapture the city’s western side.

Home Front: Politix
Frontpage Mag: The Civil War is Here
A civil war has begun.

This civil war is very different than the last one. There are no cannons or cavalry charges. The left doesn’t want to secede. It wants to rule. Political conflicts become civil wars when one side refuses to accept the existing authority. The left has rejected all forms of authority that it doesn’t control.

The left has rejected the outcome of the last two presidential elections won by Republicans. It has rejected the judicial authority of the Supreme Court when it decisions don’t accord with its agenda. It rejects the legislative authority of Congress when it is not dominated by the left.

It rejected the Constitution so long ago that it hardly bears mentioning.

It was for total unilateral executive authority under Obama. And now it’s for states unilaterally deciding what laws they will follow. (As long as that involves defying immigration laws under Trump, not following them under Obama.) It was for the sacrosanct authority of the Senate when it held the majority. Then it decried the Senate as an outmoded institution when the Republicans took it over.

It was for Obama defying the orders of Federal judges, no matter how well grounded in existing law, and it is for Federal judges overriding any order by Trump on any grounds whatsoever. It was for Obama penalizing whistleblowers, but now undermining the government from within has become "patriotic".

There is no form of legal authority that the left accepts as a permanent institution. It only utilizes forms of authority selectively when it controls them. But when government officials refuse the orders of the duly elected government because their allegiance is to an ideology whose agenda is in conflict with the President and Congress, that’s not activism, protest, politics or civil disobedience; it’s treason.

After losing Congress, the left consolidated its authority in the White House. After losing the White House, the left shifted its center of authority to Federal judges and unelected government officials. Each defeat led the radicalized Democrats to relocate from more democratic to less democratic institutions.

This isn’t just hypocrisy. That’s a common political sin. Hypocrites maneuver within the system. The left has no allegiance to the system. It accepts no laws other than those dictated by its ideology.

Democrats have become radicalized by the left. This doesn’t just mean that they pursue all sorts of bad policies. It means that their first and foremost allegiance is to an ideology, not the Constitution, not our country or our system of government. All of those are only to be used as vehicles for their ideology.

#3  If you visit Washington, you can go to the National Archives and visit this room, where the Declaration, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are on display. The room is almost cold in the interest of preserving the documents, and the atmosphere communicates that you have just entered the political Holy of Holies of the United States of America. As you walk further down the Mall, and across the river to Arlington, you are continually reminded that the words on those faded documents have repeatedly been affirmed by the blood of brave Americans.

The left has nothing like this. And what's worse for them is that the left no longer has, if they ever did have, the intellectual machinery to produce anything like the Constitution. The best they can do is to personally attack the founders, to distort their words, and to prevent our children from learning about them. But that's just ankle-biting born of intellectual poverty.

What the left has produced is The Narrative, an ill-defined set of spiritual and intellectual chains for those stupid enough to wear them. But the Narrative in turn depends on the Rainbow Coalition, which is an illusion. The components of the Coalition have nothing in common other than the idea that the power traditionally ascribed to white male Americans should be theirs instead. You must not ask what black Southern Baptists really think about gay marriage, or what Catholic Hispanics think abut abortion.

But the real bone in the throat of the Narrative and the Rainbow Coalition is Islam. Some Islamics assimilate quite well, and others are content to bide their time. But if Islam has its way, in the long run our hyper-offended feminists are going to have their faces slapped off and our married gays are going to be defenestrated, possibly by the poor refugee children who now tug at our heartstrings.

(sorry -- that got more preachy than I wanted)

Security forces have “neutralized” a total of 99 militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) during the security operations carried out last week, according to a statement released from Turkish General Staff on April 1.

The statement said that one soldier was killed and nine others were injured in the operations carried out in the southeastern provinces of Şırnak, Hakkari, Diyarbakır and Mardin and the eastern provinces of Bitlis and Ağrı between March 24 and 30.

According to the General Staff, some 52 infantry rifles, 109 hand grenades, one mortar, one anti-aircraft machine rifle, five rocket launchers, nearly 4,300 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, 13,5 kilograms of A4 explosives and cables, detonators and explosives used in making hand-made explosives were seized in the operations. In addition, the security forces destroyed a total of 24 home-made explosives.

Some 56 shelters and depots belonging to the PKK were destroyed and 839 kilograms of marijuana, 4,550 liters of fuel oil and 50,560 smuggled cigarettes were confiscated in the operations.

Iraq
Iraqi parliament votes against Kurdish flag in Kirkuk
The Iraqi parliament on Saturday voted against a decision to raise the flag of northern Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on public buildings and institutions in Kirkuk city, Anadolu reported.

In a session attended by 186 members of the 328-seat parliament, the MPs voted in favor of flying only the Iraqi flag on Kirkuk's buildings. Kurdish lawmakers have walked out of the session before the vote, MP Hasan Turan told Anadolu Agency.

Last week, 26 Kurdish members of Kirkuk’s provincial assembly voted in favor of raising the KRG flag alongside Iraq’s national flag outside the city’s public buildings and institutions.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin have criticized the move as a "mistake".

During the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Kurdish Peshmerga forces have seized Kirkuk, prompting an influx of Kurds into the city.

Baghdad says Kirkuk is administratively dependent on Iraq’s central government, while the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party demands Kirkuk’s incorporation into the Kurdish Region.

The city’s Turkmen residents, however, oppose this idea, saying Kirkuk should enjoy a “special status”.

Kirkuk’s population is mainly composed of Arab, Turkmen and Kurdish inhabitants.

Afghanistan
One of Taliban’s head of suicide attack missions killed in Kandahar
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A key Taliban group member who was involved in organizing suicide kabooms has been killed in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the Taliban leader has been identified as Mohammad
Golly -- that's definitive. Not even Tall Mohammad or One-eyed Squint Mohammad?
Maiwand, where you can't throw a rock without hitting a Mohammad? By golly, that's blasphemy!
and was killed in Maiwand district.
To be fair, he now belongs to the very large set of Dead Mohammads in that neighbourhood, and if nobody knows which particular body is his, he won't be much bothered by it...
Would I be a bad person if I admitted that it didn't bother me at all, whether he's Squinty Mohammad or Lefty Mohammad?
MoD further added that Mohammad was involved in the transportation of the jacket wallahs to the area of their target.

According to MoD, the holy warrior was killed as a result of an Arclight airstrike conducted in Maiwand.

Kandahar is among the relatively calm provinces where the security situation had improved during the recent years but the anti-government armed Death Eater groups have increased their insurgency activities in some of its districts during the recent months.

The killing of Taliban’s head of suicide attack missions comes as the Afghan forces are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations in some of the restive southern provinces including Kandahar.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Friday that 18 Taliban gunnies were killed during the clearance operations of the Afghan cops in Nish district.

A local commander of the Taliban group identified as Rahmat was also among those killed.

Yevgeni Yevtushenko dies at 83
Russian poet Evgeny Yevtushenko, a leading force in the brief post-Stalinist Soviet literary "thaw" of the 1960s, has died in the United States at the age of 85, TASS news agency reported on Saturday, citing a close friend.

"Five minutes ago, Evgeny Aleksandrovich (Yevtushenko) departed into eternity," TASS said, quoting Mikhail Morgulis, a friend of Yevtushenko's who said he had spoken to his son.

Born in 1932, Yevtushenko went on to publish more than 150 collections of poems. His first book, "The Prospects of the Future", was published in 1952 when he was the youngest member of the Union of Soviet Writers. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1963.

He was especially prominent during the brief literary thaw under Communist Party leader Nikita Khrushchev, but had an often ambivalent relationship with Communist authorities. In one of his most famous poems, The Heirs of Stalin, from 1961, he wrote that though dictator Josef Stalin had died, his legacy lived on, "he was scheming, had merely dozed off".

In the same year he published Babi Yar, about a massacre of Jews by Nazi occupiers at a ravine in Kiev - a criticism of what he saw as the Soviet Union's own anti-semitism in its fashioning of history.

TASS reported on Friday that Yevtushenko, who had moved to the United States in 1991, had been admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Two Somali women jailed for financing Shaboobs
Two women who used an internet chat room to raise several thousand dollars for the Somali militant group al-Shabab have been sentenced to prison.

Muna Osman Jama, 36, of Reston, Virginia, and Hinda Osman Dhirane,
...dear Hinda, a mother of six, was the group's poetess. Her Ode to Al Shabaab was read into the court record, there to sit for all eternity...
46, of Kent, Washington, had previously been convicted of providing support to a terrorist organization.
The ladies, emirs of the international Group of Fifteen, were arrested in July, 2014.
On Friday, Jama was sentenced to 12 years and Dhirane to 11 years.

Prosecutors had said the women used the chat room to round up small contributions on behalf of al-Shabab.

The women did not deny their sympathies for al-Shabab. But their defense lawyers argued that the money they raised went to people who were not clearly defined members of al-Shabab.
All the money went to the Widows Ammunition Fund...
The defense also raised First Amendment issues, saying their advocacy for al-Shabab should not be fodder for a criminal conviction.
Yes, it should. One of these years we will get serious, and pass that into law.

Rifi Criticizes 'Hizbullah's Armed Appearance' in Dahiyeh
[An Nahar] Former Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi slammed "Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
's armed manifestation" in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday, saying it confirms the "state's resignation in favor of statelets," his media office said in a statement on Saturday

"Although Leb's security forces are capable of uprooting drug pushers and contraband promoters, we instead saw yesterday a manifestation that confirms the State's resignation in favor of statelets," said Rifi in his statement.

"Hizbullah has staged an armed appearance in Dahiyeh, showing the contradiction that this party expresses with the State and its institutions," it added.

Addressing President Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, Rifi asked referring to the President’s statement that defended Hizbullah's arms and asked: "What you stated earlier about the army's incapability to defend Leb, does it apply now to the security forces as well? Are they incapable too of protecting the social security of the Lebanese?"

"I pose the same question on the entire government specifically the Ministers of Defense and Interior. The Lebanese are waiting for clear answers from their officials on what happened. We will follow up on the issue until the end," stated Rifi.

Pictures of masked Hizbullah members in black-clad went viral on social media on Friday, as reports said they spread out in Bourj al-Barajneh refugee camp in the evening in a campaign against drug pushers and gangs.

Two more civilians killed in mine explosion in Benghazi’s Gwarsha district
[Libya Herald] Two more non-combatants were killed today in a landmine kaboom in Benghazi’s Gwarsha distirct. Abdul Salam Ali al-Shafi and his son Walid died when they accidentally detonated a mine left by murderous Moslems at their farm in the area. Despite warnings by the Libyan National Army about the area being littered with mines and that people should stay away until it had been cleared, they had returned to the family home to organise affairs there.

According to Saiqa special forces front man Colonel Miloud Zwai, the number of people, both civilian and military, killed in mine kabooms in Gwarsha’s Shara Shajar ("Tree Street") alone since the district was liberated on 17 February last year is 24.

The figure did not take into account the number of those maimed or otherwise injured as a result of landmine kabooms in the tree-lined street at the entrance to Gwarsha after Garyounis, said Zwai.

Yesterday, mine sapper Mohammed al-Barasi died there when a device he was attempting to defuse blew up.

Speaking about the victims, Zwai was particularly angry at what he said was the constant concern about human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
abuses by an international community that was otherwise silent over the daily crimes committed by holy warriors against civilians and soldiers alike in Benghazi.

French election race tightens
France's centrist presidential contender Emmanuel Macron singled out the far-right National Front as his chief rival on Saturday, vowing to win the first round on April 23 as a new poll showed the election race getting tighter.

"The National Front, our main opponent, is attacking us on all sides. Never boo them. Fight them," a defiant Macron told a rally in the southern city of Marseille.

"I want us to kick far from this campaign and from the country the party of hatred and contempt and all those who make us so ashamed. We are going to be ahead in the first round and we're going to beat them," he said.

The presidential race is even closer than it was a week ago, an opinion poll indicated on Saturday. First-round voting intentions for the frontrunners, Macron and National Front leader Marine Le Pen, showed both slipping one percentage point to 25 percent and 24 percent respectively.

Third-placed conservative Francois Fillon gained two points to 19 percent, while the far left's Jean-Luc Melenchon climbed one point to 15 percent, according to the survey by the BVA polling institute conducted on March 29-30.

Complicating predictions, 38 percent of people either could not say how they would vote, or may yet change their minds. That was down two percentage points from a week earlier, but showed the race remains wide open.

The poll showed independent Macron had solidified his voter base, with 63 percent of those opting for him sure of their decision, up 8 points from a week ago and his highest certainty score since campaigning began in earnest in February.

However, Le Pen still had by far the most solid voter base, with an unchanged 81 percent of her voters certain to pick her.

The poll though, like others this year, showed Macron beating her with 60 percent of votes in the May 7 second round.

Fillon's recovery from the lows that followed a fake work scandal surrounding his wife puts him within 5 points of Le Pen and 6 points of Macron, with some voters previously tempted to abstain deciding to go for him after all, BVA's commentary said.

BVA put Melenchon's climb since a strong performance in the first TV debate on March 20 partly down to more of his natural sympathizers deciding to vote.

It said official Socialist candidate Benoit Hamon, who is in fifth place on 11.5 percent and also has hard left policies, could be vulnerable.

Cholera spreads in famine-threatened Somalia
Sucks to live in a failed state...
The UN Children”s Fund (Unicef) reported today the increase to 18,400 cases of cholera and acute diarrheal diseases in Somalia this year, higher than the figure reported in 2016.

While the number of children with severe acute malnutrition increases in this country, the infectious-contagious disease also accelerates, which is demonstrated in the figure of 15, 600 in 2017, compared to the previous one, pointed out Unicef.

‘These data are a wake-up call; Children die of malnutrition, hunger, thirst and disease, ‘assured the regional director of that agency for eastern and southern Africa, Leila Pakkala.

The office warned that minors with severe malnutrition are nine times more likely to die from one of those ills than those who are well fed.

‘We have the opportunity now to avoid a massive loss of life,’ Pakkala noted.

The appeal for UNICEF funds for Somalia this year increased from 61.4 million euros to 136.8 million; And by mid-March, the financial deficit was 54 percent.

Six years after the declaration of famine, this Horn of Africa country is once again on the brink of catastrophe, noted officials from the UN agency.
Some things never change...
Most of those affected by these intestinal diseases are children of early childhood, according to the spokesman of the United Nations, Christophe Boulierac, who reported that therapeutic food was distributed to 35,400 children with acute malnutrition in the months of January and February 2017.

Faced with such figures provided by Unicef, the concern increases, as they account for 58 percent of the rate of severe child malnutrition, compared with the first two months of last year.

This country suffers from the worst drought in recent years, which has caused its inhabitants to drink non-potable water, and in turn, the outbreak of cholera and serious infectious diseases.

Jamaat-i-Islami plans protests in '50 areas' across Karachi
[DAWN] Jamaat-e-Islaami (JI) has called for protests at 50 locations across Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
today, a day after yesterday's riots paralysed major arteries in the city.

Confirming the planned protests, JI's social media head Kashif Hafeez told Dawn.com their renewed protests against K-Electric began right after Asr prayers today.

Areas where the party plans to hold protests include Malir Zone, Shah Faisal, Gulshan Zone (near Disco Bakery), Jauhar Zone (near Samama Shopping Mall), Lea Market, Garden Area, Fresco Chowk, Defence Moar, Baloch Colony, Kala Pul, Karimabad, UP Moar, Liaquatabad, Daewoo Chowrangi, Malir Press club, Katti Pahari, and Sher Shah Chowrangi.

The call for mass protests comes after yesterday's events which saw a a protest erupt into a standoff between the police and JI workers when the Karachi chapter Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
by the police.

JI workers then proceeded to block Shara-e-Faisal and other major thoroughfares causing hardship to commuters and skirmished with law enforcing authorities.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
AncestryDNA: I thought I was Irish, but I'm actually Tibetan Mosuo
[Guardian] Imagine a society without fathers; without marriage (or divorce); one in which nuclear families don’t exist. Grandmother sits at the head of the table; her sons and daughters live with her, along with the children of those daughters, following the maternal bloodline. Men are little more than studs, sperm donors who inseminate women but have, more often than not, little involvement in their children’s upbringing.

This progressive, feminist world ‐ or anachronistic matriarchy, as skewed as any patriarchal society, depending on your viewpoint ‐ exists in a lush valley in Yunnan, south-west China, in the far eastern foothills of the Himalayas. An ancient tribal community of Tibetan Buddhists called the Mosuo, they live in a surprisingly modern way: women are treated as equal, if not superior, to men; both have as many, or as few, sexual partners as they like, free from judgment; and extended families bring up the children and care for the elderly. But is it as utopian as it seems? And how much longer can it survive?

Choo Waihong set about finding out. A successful corporate lawyer from Singapore, she left her job in 2006 to travel. Having trained and worked in Canada, the US and London, she felt drawn to visit China, the country of her ancestors. After reading about the Mosuo, she decided to take a trip to their picturesque community ‐ a series of villages dotted around a mountain and Lugu Lake ‐ as many tourists do. But something beyond the views and clean air grabbed her.

"I grew up in a world where men are the bosses," she says. "My father and I fought a lot ‐ he was the quintessential male in an extremely patriarchal Chinese community in Singapore. And I never really belonged at work; the rules were geared towards men, and intuitively understood by them, but not me. I’ve been a feminist all my life, and the Mosuo seemed to place the female at the centre of their society. It was inspiring."

Couldn't have anything to do with 10,000+ years of evolution of which the last 4,000 recorded societies mainly of tribal, territorial and hierarchical organizations who fought and warred over resources? That it was successful males who allowed their tribes to flourish in that environment by paying the ultimate price in death and dismemberment? That maybe you exist in an artificial cocoon of the late 20th/early 21st century that can come crashing down if you keep, in your self centered ignorance, hammering at the foundations of its civilization? However, you refuse the notice the barbarian already awaiting just outside looking for an opportunity to erase over 500 years of progress.

Bomb blast injures 16 people in Egypt's Tanta
[AlAhram] At least 16 people, including 13 police conscripts, were maimed in a kaboom in the Egyptian Nile Delta city of Tanta in the vicinity of a police training centre, the interior ministry said on Saturday.

"The bomb was planted in a cycle of violence parked near the centre and the area has been cordoned off and is being combed by security forces," the ministry said in a statement.

A health ministry official in Tanta said all the injured are receiving treatment in hospital, including three civilians. Five of the injured are at death's door.

Militant group Lewaa al-Thawra
...which translates to The Revolution Brigade, and along with Hasm (Decisiveness or Determination) is one of the fighting arms of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt established in response to the overthrow of President Morsi...
has grabbed credit for the attack in an online statement, claiming on Twitter that the bombing resulted in "dozens of deaths and injuries, and the safe withdrawal of our fighters after accomplishing the operation."

Lewaa al-Thawra has grabbed credit for several attacks on security forces in recent months.

The group said it had murdered a high-ranking army officer in Dahshur, south of Cairo, in October 2016 and grabbed credit for an attack on a security checkpoint in Menoufiya governorate, where two coppers were killed and five were maimed, two months earlier.

Pakistan valued by many countries, says army chief
[DAWN] Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Friday the countries making efforts to isolate Pakistain should realise how the country was valued and honoured by its friends in the international community.
"Really. Honest, it is!"
Gen Bajwa was talking to foreign military contingents taking part in the second Pakistain Army Team Spirit (Pats) competitions, being organised near Mangla, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

Terrorism, he said, was adversely affecting the entire world and required a collective response.

Pakistain was a peace-loving country and it had contributed towards peace and stability in the region and beyond, the statement quoted him as saying.

He also highlighted the importance of physical fitness and underlined the need for team work, which would be exhibited during the weeklong PATS events, starting on Saturday (today).

Gen Bajwa visited the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Pabbi, and met members of the participating teams.

No withdrawal from Syria before settlements built, local forces trained
Turkey has “successfully accomplished” its months-old military operation into northern Syria, but troops will not be withdrawn soon from the regions under Ankara’s control as it seeks ensure life returns to normal in the area, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said.

“Residential areas need to be established there. The U.S. says the same thing. Second, local forces that will be deployed to provide protection here need to be trained and equipped. We will evaluate reducing the number of troops or withdrawing entirely only after local forces are fully able to control this area,” Çavuşoğlu told Ankara bureau chiefs aboard a flight to Brussels late on March 30.

Çavuşoğlu and U.S. counterpart Rex Tillerson also discussed during the latter’s visit to Ankara on March 30 the establishment of what Tillerson called “interim stabilization zones” inside Syria for Syrians to be able to return their country. Çavuşoğlu said they proposed working together and encouraging European countries to participate in the project.

European Union deploys Drones off Somalia coast
EUNAVFOR’s Operation Atalanta, the European Union’s anti-piracy naval mission in the High Risk Area off the coast of Somalia, is using drones to monitor the nation’s coastline and search for pirate activity.

The Spanish Navy vessel ESPS Galicia has deployed a Boeing ScanEagle remotely piloted aircraft to provide long-endurance aerial surveillance during coastal patrols.
The drone is nicknamed by the EU navies as the "Juncker"...
The ScanEagle can be launched and recovered from a small footprint, and it can stay aloft for up to 18 hours; it provides imaging capability both day and night, and serves as a relatively low-cost complement to the over-the-horizon surveillance capabilities of the Galicia’s two Sea King SH-3D helicopters.

To date, the Galicia’s ScanEagle system has racked up over 500 hours of flight time in service of Operation Atalanta. Among its other missions, the drone went aloft to provide constant monitoring of the hijacked tanker Aris 13.

The ScanEagle is also in service with the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Navy, and it was deployed off Somalia during the famous Maersk Alabama hijacking.

The drone is small enough to launch from an 80-foot SEAL operations boat, yet large enough to carry a small radar, an infrared camera or a ViDAR optical detection system. The latest model can operate at a distance of up to 60 miles from its command and control base.

Despite the ScanEagle’s proven capabilities, the UK Royal Navy will stop using the system this year due to budget constraints, part of a series of deep cuts to the service’s front-line weapons systems, units and platforms.

Pirate activity off Somalia has returned since NATO ended its long-running Ocean Shield patrol mission in November. Abdihakim Abdullahi Omar, the vice president of the Somali region of Puntland, recently told reporters that NATO’s failure to address illegal fishing and toxic waste dumping was partly to blame for the recent resurgence in maritime crime. ”

We requested NATO warships to tackle the illegal fishing, but they replied it was not their mandate,” he said. “We told them that if they cannot take measures against the illegal fishing vessels who come under their cover and those who pour wastes into our waters, then their presence is a burden rather than a benefit.”

However, Joshua Tallis, a research analyst for CNA Corporation, recently told the Sri Lanka Guardian that fishing has not traditionally been a major part of the Somali economy, and that most pirates are not former fishermen. “That does not excuse the devastation of toxic dumping and IUU fishing, only its ability to causally explain piracy,” he said.

Thai cop killed, five wounded in drive-by shooting
[Bangkok Post] One police officer was killed and five others injured in a drive-by shooting attack Thursday morning at Rangae district police station while officers were assembled together outdoors. Four to five attackers traveling in a pickup drove slowly past the station, then opened fire on about 30 police who were standing in rows, in the middle of their daily briefing in the yard inside the gates.

Witnesses said the gunmen were dressed like construction workers. They fired assault rifles at the policemen. A policeman on duty at the gate fired back at the truck prompting the attackers to flee. They scattered spikes on the road behind them as they drove off.

From surveillance camera footage, police determined the truck was stolen in Sukhirin district prior to the attack. According to a source, an unnamed couple in a pickup were stopped by a group of people pretending to be security officials at a fake security checkpoint set up in an area between Chanae district and Sukhirin district. The two were taken by the fake security officials and locked inside a deserted house nearby, the source said. The couple later lodged a complaint with police about the theft of the pickup, police said, adding the truck was later to be the same one caught on security cameras being used by the police station attackers.

Police later raided two locations in Muang district, resulting in two suspects being taken into in custody. Security officials are continuing to check surveillance cameras and search for the other suspects.

A security source said the station attack was apparently an act of revenge against the authorities over the extra-judicial killings of Isma-ae Hama and Arseng Useng in Rueso district on Wednesday afternoon. The two were believed to be among the people behind the killing of Somchai Thongjan, an assistant village chief of Ban Si Phinyo in Rueso district and three members of his family, the source said. Somchai's wife, older sister and eight-year-old son were also killed. He confirmed the motive of Thursday's attack was retaliation for the killing of the two suspects.

The two were killed during a gun battle with a security team that broke out after the driver of a pickup truck they were traveling in refused to stop at a security checkpoint. The suspects in the truck who opened fire at them were believed to be Runda Kumpulan Kecil militants, the source said.

Afghanistan
11 Pakistani insurgents killed in airstrikes in Ghazni province of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least eleven Pak holy warriors were killed in a series of Arclight airstrikes conducted in southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

The Arclight airstrikes were carried out in the vicinity of Gilan and Nawa districts of Ghazni.

The Government Media and Information Center said the Arclight airstrikes were carried out by the foreign forces on Friday.

The source further added that those killed in the Arclight airstrikes were all foreigners and were hailing from Pakistain.

The provincial officials earlier said the murderous Moslems were killed in Arclight airstrikes and military operations conducted by the Afghan forces.

Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces connecting the central provinces with the southern Kandahar and Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
which are among the two restive provinces in the South.

The anti-government armed bully boy groups are actively operating in its various districts and often carry out insurgency activities.

The latest Arclight airstrikes by the foreign forces in Ghazni came as the counter-terrorism operations by the US forces mainly involving Arclight airstrikes have been stepped up during the recent months and specifically after they were granted broader role earlier last year.

The government says the revival was imperative keeping in view the recent spate of terrorism in the country.

The president’s front man said: "President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday gave his formal assent to the Pakistain Army Act 2017 and the 23rd Constitutional Amendment Bill."

Both pieces of legislation are aimed at granting legal cover to the military courts for trying civilians charged with terrorism.

Polio refusal cases among well-educated people baffle officials
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: During the recent polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
campaign held in the capital it was observed that a large number of educated people did not want to vaccinate their children.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Abdul Sattar Isani termed the situation unfortunate and claimed that all possible steps would be taken to ensure that every child was administered the polio drops.

He said even cases were registered against those who refused the vaccination.

Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq said she was not in favour of registering cases as the administration of polio vaccine was a continuous process.

She requested the media to play a role to create awareness that polio vaccine is safe.

During the current year environmental samples collected from different parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were found positive for the poliovirus.

As a result, a special polio campaign was launched on March 27 in the high risk areas of the twin cities.

An official of the polio programme, requesting not to be quoted, said teams were formed to administer polio drops to every child.

"However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
it was strange that we faced a strong resistance from even well-educated people. Though they did not have religious reasons but were not in favour of vaccinating their children. A majority of them claimed that they had administered polio drops privately but failed to produce a vaccination card or certificate," he said.

Sharing an incident, he said a resident of Sector G-7/2 refused to vaccinate his son.

"We tried our best and even a representative of the district administration was sent to the house to convince him. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
the citizen started threatening the team after which an FIR was registered against him with the Aabpara police," he said.

Abbas Khan, a duty officer at the Aabpara police, told Dawn that though the citizen was tossed in the slammer
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
and an FIR registered against him, he could not be detained as it was a bailable offence.

"My initial impression was that the person against whom the FIR was registered would be totally illiterate but I was shocked to see that he was well educated," he said.

The official of the polio programme said the polio team faced an awkward situation when a deputy secretary of a ministry refused to administer polio drops to children present in his house.

"A well-known doctor, who works in a private hospital, was found involved in asking citizens not to administer polio drops to children. During the campaign when we reached a school in Ghori Town, the principal closed the gate and called the police.

"Even some foreigners refused the polio vaccines claiming that their children had already received the drops. But they failed to provide any certificates due to which we administered vaccine to their children," he said.

IS second-in-command killed in airstrike: Iraqi State TV
[DAWN] Ayad al-Jumaili, believed to be the deputy of holy warrior Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, has been killed in an air strike, Iraqi State TV said on Saturday, citing Iraqi military intelligence.

The US-led anti-Islamic State coalition said it was unable at the moment to confirm the report.

Iraqi TV said Jumaili was killed with other IS commanders in a strike carried out by the Iraqi air force in the region of al-Qaim, near the border with Syria. It gave no detail or date for the raid.

"The air force's planes executed with accuracy a strike on the headquarters of ISIS in al-Qaim...resulting in the killing of ISIS's second-in-command...Ayad al-Jumaili, alias Abu Yahya, the war minister," said state TV, citing a statement from the directorate of military intelligence.

Iraqi forces, backed by a US-led coalition, have been battling since October to retake the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, IS's stronghold in Iraq and the city where Baghdadi declared a caliphate nearly three years ago.

Tens of thousands of refugees have been fleeing the city to escape the fighting.

US and Iraqi officials believe Baghdadi has left operational commanders with diehard followers to fight the battle of Mosul, and is now hiding out in the desert with senior commanders.

A separate battle is in preparation in Syria to drive IS from its stronghold there, the city of Raqqa.

The Iraqi state TV report is the first by an official media to announce the death of Jumaili, who was an intelligence officer under Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi president toppled in the 2003 US-led invasion.

Jumaili led IS's top security agency in Iraq and Syria, known as Amniya, answering directly to Baghdadi, according to experts.

Hamas Mulls Revenge after Commander Killed
Let them mull. And while mulling, do nothing.
"We shall have Dire Revenge™! ... we think..."
[An Nahar] After openly accusing Israel of assassinating a key military commander near his Gazoo home, experts agree that Paleostinian murderous Moslem group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, will want to retaliate. The question is when and where?

Israeli and Paleostinian experts both said Hamas would seek to avenge the killing of Mazen Faqha, 38, but from a distance.
So that the revengers don't get themselves gob-smacked by the evil Joooozs...
A commander in Hamas's armed wing, Faqha was shot four times near his home on March 24 in what appears to have been a meticulously planned liquidation.

Hamas said the shooting, which was allegedly carried out with silencers, with the body found several hours later, bore the hallmark of Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.
Or the Ruritanians...
Other possibilities exist -- an inside job by Hamas rivals or Islamist hard boyz -- but Israel is the obvious suspect.

It accused Faqha of being the brain behind several deadly suicide kabooms during the second intifada, or uprising, in the early 2000s.

The Jewish state has remained silent but several Hamas figures have been assassinated by Israel in the past, including founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.
Ptui...
By killing him in Hamas-run Gazoo, where no Israelis are allowed to enter, Israel would be sending a clear message it can reach its enemy anywhere.

Hamas's potential responses are restricted by its wariness to spark a full confrontation from Gazoo, with the impoverished enclave still not recovered from three wars since 2008.

The Islamist group could seek to strike inside Israel itself or in the West Bank, occupied by the Israel and separated geographically from Gazoo by Israeli territory.

UN Reports Palestinian Population Decline in Syria
[An Nahar] Syria's Paleostinian refugee population has fallen by one-fifth since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011 and many of those who stay in Syria have been displaced, the U.N.'s Paleostinian relief agency said Friday.

UNRWA Director Pierre Krahenbuhl said there are 440,000 refugees in Syria, compared to 560,000 in the country before the war.

Many of those still in Syria have been displaced by Syria's six-year civil war. For them, it is the second time they or their families have been forced out of their homes, after being displaced from Paleostinian lands by Israeli forces last century.

"Displacement is a very difficult experience, to lose another home, to lose another place of residence," said Krahenbuhl, who was wrapping up a five day tour of UNRWA operations in Syria.

Several Paleostinian camps in Damascus and Aleppo, Syria's largest city, have been destroyed during the conflict that has killed more than 400,000 people, displaced half the country's population and sent more than 5 million as refugees, mostly to neighboring countries.

Elsewhere in Syria, opposition activists reported festivities between government forces and murderous Moslems groups in different regions including the central province of Hama, the northwestern province of Idlib and the suburbs of Damascus, according to opposition activists and state media. The activists reported Arclight airstrikes on rebel-held parts of Idlib and Hama.

Physicians for Human Rights reported Friday that at least two medical facilities in Hama have come under attack over the past week. It said the facilities, a hospital in the village of Latamneh and a medical point in Kafar Naboudeh, together serve tens of thousands of people in the province that witnessed intense violence over the past two weeks after murderous Moslems launched a wide offensive against government-controlled villages.

The group said the attacks on the two medical facilities violate international law, in that they are either intentional attacks on medical facilities or indiscriminate attacks on civilian-populated areas.

"Hospitals have become scenes of total devastation and destruction throughout this conflict," said PHR's lead Syria researcher Elise Baker. "What we're seeing in Hama governorate is an extension of a gruesome pattern of attacks against medical facilities and personnel across the country."

"As we've seen throughout the conflict, as fighting intensifies and the need for medical care grows, hospitals and other medical facilities come under increasing attack," she said.

On March 25, the Latamneh surgical hospital -- a facility built into a cave to protect it from Arclight airstrikes -- was hit by multiple barrel bombs, PHR said. While the attack only caused minor structural damage to the facility, multiple sources inside the hospital testified that at least one of the bombs, which landed inside the hospital, contained a chemical agent, it said.

The hospital's coordinator told PHR that the attack and chemical exposure led to the death of one of the hospital's doctors, Dr. Ahmed Darwish.

Doctors Without Borders, also known as MSF, said the hospital in Latamneh was supported by the group. It added that a bomb dropped by a helicopter hit the entrance of the building, adding that information collected by the hospital's medical staff suggests that chemical weapons were used.

It said patients and staff reported suffering severe respiratory symptoms and burning of mucous membranes immediately after the impact, symptoms consistent with a chemicals attack. It said that in addition to Dr. Darwish, another person was killed.

"The loss of Dr Darwish leaves just two orthopedic surgeons for a population of around 120,000," said Massimiliano Rebaudengo, MSF's head of mission in northern Syria.

US adds five militants to its list of global terrorists
More on this story from a few days ago.
[DAWN] The US State Department on Friday added five murderous Moslems to its list of global terrorists, including Anjem Choudary
...Self-proclaimed holy man who used to work for Omar Mohammed Bakdri as spokesman for al-Muhajiroun. Anjem is a loathesome little attention prostitute who is to be heard cheering for the home team anytime anybody with a turban manages to slaughter a group of unarmed infidels. Anjem was born in the UK in 1967 and is, as you would expect, of Pakistaini descent. The Ghost of Dante is of the opinion that when he goes to hell his knees will be broken once a month...
, who was allegedly associated with a group that once ran a safe house in Lahore.

The other four are El Shafee Elsheikh, Sami Bouras, Shane Dominic Crawford, and Mark John Taylor.

The official US notification identified Anjem Choudary as "a British holy warrior with links to convicted snuffies and holy warrior networks in the UK, including the proscribed al-Muhajiroun
...formerly Omar Bakri Muhammad's spin off group from Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain, where the detestable lunatic Anjem Chaudry got his start. More recently the name adopted by al-Qaeda in East Africa for operations in Kenya and Tanzania. It is subordinate to al-Shabaab but will probably be strong enough to fly on its own, given an uninterrupted flow of petrodollars, should the Shaboobs collapse....
group."

Al-Muhajiroun is a banned holy warrior organization that was based in Britannia but also ran a Lahore safe house for visiting British Moslems. The group operated in Britannia from January 14, 1986 to August 2005. In January 2010, the British government banned al-Muhajiroun.

Anjem Choudary was tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
in September 2014 for pledging allegiance to the bad boy Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and for facilitating the IS recruitment drive.

He was sentenced to prison in September 2016. Choudary has stated that he will continue his recruitment activities from prison. Born in the UK on January 18, 1967, Anjem Choudary is the son of a Welling market trader and is of Pak descent.

Information released by the US State Department shows that El Shafee Elsheikh travelled to Syria in 2012, joined Al Qaeda’s local branch, and later joined the bad boy Islamic State group. In May 2016, Elsheikh was identified as a member of the IS execution cell known as "The Beatles," a group accused of beheading more than 27 hostages and torturing many more.

Elsheikh was said to have earned a reputation for waterboarding, mock executions, and crucifixions while serving as an IS jailer.

Sami Bouras is a Swedish citizen of Tunisian descent who is an alleged member of Al Qaeda and who has been involved with planning suicide kabooms.

Shane Dominic Crawford is a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and the State Department identified him as a foreign terrorist fighter in Syria carrying out terrorist activity on behalf of IS, including acting as an English language propagandist for the group.

Mark John Taylor is a New Zealand national who has been fighting in Syria with IS since the fall of 2014. Taylor has used social media, including appearing in a 2015 IS propaganda video, to encourage terrorist attacks in Australia and New Zealand, the State Department said.

"Elsheikh, Choudary, Bouras, Crawford, and Taylor have committed or pose a significant risk of committing acts of terrorism," the notification warned.

Caribbean-Latin America
Venezuela’s Supreme Court reverses move to gut congress amid 'coup' claims
[FRANCE24] In a dramatic week in Venezuela, the pro-government Supreme Court on Saturday revoked its controversial annulment of the opposition-led congress amid international condemnation and protests against President Nicolas Maduro.

"This controversy is over ... the constitution has won," Socialist Maduro said in a televised speech just after midnight local time to a specially convened state security committee that ordered the top court to reconsider its rulings.

The court said in a ruling published on its website that it was revoking a March 29 decision to take over legislative powers from the National Assembly, a move opponents had branded a "coup d'etat."

It also revoked an earlier ruling that stripped politicians of their immunity from prosecution and ended emergency security powers it had conferred on Maduro in the crisis.

The Supreme Court duly erased the two controversial judgments during the morning, the information minister said.

The U-turn is viewed by many as an effort to defuse growing anger, protests and ’coup’ claims that have spread like wildfire on social media.

The opposition said it was a hypocritical move by an unpopular government that overplayed its hand.

However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
Maduro, 54, sought to cast it as a statesman-like move in resolving a conflict.

Coup!
"You can't pretend to just normalise the nation after carrying out a 'coup,'" said Julio Borges, leader of the National Assembly legislature. Borges publicly tore up the court rulings this week and refused to attend the security committee, which includes the heads of major institutions.

Having already shot down most congressional measures since the opposition won control in 2015, the pro-Maduro Supreme Court went further on Wednesday with a ruling it was taking over the legislature's functions because it was in "contempt" of the law.

That galvanised Venezuela's demoralised and divided opposition coalition and brought a torrent of international condemnation and concern ranging from the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
and European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
to most major Latin American countries.

Flip-flop...
The Supreme Court's flip-flop may take the edge off protests, but Maduro's opponents at home and abroad will seek to maintain the pressure. They are furious that authorities thwarted a push for a referendum to recall Maduro last year and also postponed local elections scheduled for 2016.

Now they are calling for next year's presidential election to be brought forward and the delayed local polls to be held, confident the ruling Socialist Party will lose.

"It's time to mobilise!" student David Pernia, 29, said in western San Cristobal city, adding Venezuelans were fed up with autocratic rule and economic hardship. "Women don't have food for their children, people don't have medicines."

Foreign pressure
On Saturday, the National Assembly planned an open-air meeting in Caracas, while South America's UNASUR bloc was to meet in Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
with most of its members unhappy at Venezuela.

The hemispheric Organization of American States (OAS) had a special session slated for Monday in Washington.

Even before this week's events, OAS head Luis Almagro had been pushing for Venezuela's suspension, but he is unlikely to garner the two-thirds support needed in the 34-nation block despite hardening sentiment towards Maduro round the region.

India-Pakistan
Attacks on schools
[DAWN] WITH Pakistain’s already dismal record in the education sector, the country scarcely needed any more challenges on this front, but that is exactly what years of militancy have represented. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
violent bandidos Lions of Islam are not the only ones culpable in the matter, a fact that a new report by Human Rights Watch recognises. Dreams Turned into Nightmares: Attacks on Students, Teachers and Schools in Pakistain examines the issue in a more holistic way -- even though researchers could not gain access to Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, ironically for security reasons. According to Global Terrorism Database figures that the HRW cites in its report, during the period between 2007 and 2015, there were 867 attacks on educational institutions, resulting in 392 fatalities and 724 injuries. Based on interviews with students, teachers and parents, the report highlights serious failures on the part of the provincial authorities over the course of the decade between January 2007 and October 2016. Their policy of outsourcing security responsibilities to school authorities has led to financial hardship for the administrations of academic institutions and contributed to the disturbing trend of arming teachers, while criminal cases have been filed against principals for inadequate security measures. The report also includes within its scope the occupation of educational institutions by security forces (in KP and Sindh), political groups and criminal elements. In Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, there was a time when some schools in parts of Lyari

Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot....
were turned into MQM sector offices while many others in the area were destroyed or occupied by gangsters.

The report points to the lack of reliable national data on school attacks; this is a critical gap in knowledge which leaves the government ill-equipped to respond to them adequately or institute protective measures. Given it was a horrific attack on a school, APS Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
-- in which more than 140 were slaughtered, including students, teachers and staff -- that proved to be the catalyst for the National Action Plan, it is surprising that none of its 20 points pertains to the protection of education. That oversight should be addressed with the attention it deserves, especially to girls’ education, which has suffered disproportionate harm. Priority should be given to setting up rapid response units -- that can be deployed in the event of an attack on a school -- and to rebuilding destroyed or damaged infrastructure, reclaiming occupied school buildings, and providing psychosocial support to students who have suffered violence. That is one way to secure this country’s future.

Africa Subsaharan
Boko Haram Kidnap 22 Girls, Women in Northeast Nigeria
[An Nahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamists have kidnapped 22 girls and women in two separate raids in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, residents and vigilantes told AFP Friday.

In the first attack on Thursday, the jihadists raided the village of Pulka near border with Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
where they kidnapped 18 girls.

"Boko Haram fighters from Mamman Nur camp arrived in pickup vans around 6:00 am and seized 14 maidens aged 17 and below while residents fled into the bush," a Pulka community leader told AFP by phone.

"They picked four other girls who were fleeing the raid they came across in the bush outside the village," said the community leader who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.

According to the official, the attackers were loyal to the faction headed by Abu Musab al-Barnawi, the son of Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf.

Barnawi was appointed last year by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group to replace leader Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fire by the Caliph and refused to step down ...
, who had pledged allegiance to the Middle East jihadist group in 2015.

Another resident confirmed the raid and said the girls were likely to end up as brides for the fighters.

"They didn't harm anyone during the raid and they made no attempt to shoot people running away from the village," said the resident.

In the second incident outside the village of Dumba, close to Lake Chad, the jihadists killed a herdsman who had tried to escape after refusing to pay protection money, said Adamu Ahmed, a member of an anti-Boko Haram militia.

"When the Boko Haram gunnies came for the money they realised he had left with everything and they decided to go after him on their cycle of violences," Ahmed said.

"They caught up with him near Dumba where they slaughtered him and rubbed out 50 of his cattle.

"They took four women from the man's family and the rest of the herd," he said.

The promotion of Barnawi had revealed divisions in the group, as Shekau had been criticised for mass killings and suicide kabooms against civilians.

Barnawi and his right-hand man Mamman Nur, who is seen as the real leader, had promised residents in areas under their control would not be harmed as long as they did not cooperate with Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram.

But in recent weeks the Islamist fighters have intensified raids in areas near Lake Chad, stealing food from residents.

ISIS recruits retarded man for suicide bombing

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Federal Police Command, on Saturday, announced that members of the Islamic State group strapped a suicide belt to a mentally retarded man in the city of Mosul, while security forces refused to kill him.

Federal Police Chief, Raed Shaker Jawdat, in a press statement said that the Islamic State terrorist group strapped a suicide belt to a mentally retarded man, then pushed him toward the troops stationed in the old city.

Snipers of the Federal Police refused to kill him, and fired some shots to frighten and force him to retreat, Jawdat further added.

Noteworthy, security forces from Iraqi Federal Police, Counter-Terrorism Service and al-Hashd al-Shaabi are still going through fierce battles to retake the areas held by the Islamic State in Nineveh Province.

ISIS executes one of their own in Tal Afar

group executed the official of an elite brigade, along with two of his aides, for breaching the pledge of allegiance to the group.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying, "The self-proclaimed Islamic State group executed, by firing squad, its official of al-Farouq brigade, along with two of his aides, in central Tal Afar, west of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, for breaching the pledge of allegiance to the terrorist group."

The group carried out the execution, after arresting the official of al-Farouq brigade, along with 20 other leaders, while attending a meeting in Tal Afar, three days ago, the source added on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Sergeant Maloney wasn't buying it. It was just too pat. The whole thing smelled phony, kind of like a dead mackeral but without the scales...
security forces continue the battles to retake the remaining areas of western Mosul, backed by al-Hashd al-Shaabi units.

Syrian forces advance on rebels' positions in Hama
[ARA News] Syrian Army forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday retook most of the land lost recently to rebel groups in Hama Governorate, local sources reported.

Rebel fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and allied Islamist groups have recently launched a major offensive against pro-Assad troops in Hama and recaptured more than 15 villages.

“After heavy clashes with rebel groups, the Syrian government troops recaptured at least 18 villages during the past two days,” local media activist Saadoun al-Hamwi told ARA News.

Russian warplanes provided air support to pro-Assad troops during the fight for Hama countryside.

“The Russian Air Force played a key role in the regime-led counter-attacks in Hama,” the source reported. “Russia launched dozens of airstrikes on the rebells’ fighting positions, which helped the pro-regime forces make a remarkable progress on the ground.”

Dozens of rebel fighters were reportedly killed and wounded during the attacks.

Three hurt in Jerusalem Old City stabbing, attacker shot dead
[IsraelTimes] 2 civilians, policeman injured in capital’s second knifing this week; teenage terrorist posted selfies at Dome of the Rock shortly before attack.

An assailant stabbed two young men and a police officer in Jerusalem’s Old City Saturday afternoon, wounding them, before being shot and killed by security forces, police said.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the teenage terrorist stabbed two Jewish youths before fleeing, with police forces giving chase. He then stabbed one of the coppers before he was shot.

The victims -- two civilians aged 18 and 20, and a border policeman in his early 20s -- received treatment at the scene and were taken to hospital. They were said to suffer light-to-moderate wounds.

The attack took place on Haggai Street in the Moslem Quarter. This was the second stabbing attack in the Old City this week.

The assailant was identified by Paleostinian media as 17-year-old Ahmad Jazal from the West Bank village of Sebastia, near Nablus.

Shortly before carrying out the attack Jazal photographed himself smiling outside the Temple Mount’s Dome of the Rock. The photos were shared by Paleostinians on social media, with some praising the "martyr" for his actions.

Soon after the attack festivities broke out between stone-throwing Paleostinians and coppers who used stun grenades, an AFP photographer said.

Matt Drudge sez President Trump saved the media
[Daily Caller] In a rare appearance on talk radio on Friday, Matt Drudge declared that President Trump "has saved the media."

"I’m getting a little bit nervous about the media situation. Do you know, the media was near death. The New York Times was hanging on the short hairs. Do you know Vanity Fair was going under. CNN barely had a fraction," Drudge said during an appearance on Michael Savage’s radio show.

"Trump has saved the media. Record, record ratings now because the opposition is consolidating. They’re following every bouncing ball. People actually believe that Trump is a Russian agent, this is the drugged ones."

Drudge, who has operated the Drudge Report since 1995, rarely makes public appearances, but he appeared on Savage’s show to celebrate the conservative host’s 75th birthday.
