From $650 Million To Zero : The Johnny Depp Story
Interesting story if you have a few minutes to kill. It's a classic tale of Hollywood excess, overspending and lawsuits everywhere when things started to go belly-up.
[HolleywoodReporter] Early one afternoon in October 2012, Jake Bloom and Joel Mandel left their respective Beverly Hills offices, slipped into their luxury cars and embarked on the roughly 30-minute journey to the Hollywood Hills compound of their client, Johnny Depp. Bloom was a rumpled and graying lawyer whose disheveled style camouflaged an intellect exercised on behalf of such luminaries as Martin Scorsese and Sylvester Stallone. Mandel, then in his early 50s, was a tall, rather amiable accountant who favored loose-fitting jeans and looser-fitting shirts, sartorial code designed to assure his clients he was just another boy in their band as well as a top-flight business manager steeped in the arcana of arbitrage and amortization.

Both men had been close to Depp for years. Bloom, indeed, was such a confidant to the actor that he had even joined him for an induction ceremony into the Comanche nation when he played Tonto in The Lone Ranger; as for Mandel, he had accompanied Depp to his three-island property in the Bahamas, atolls Mandel had helped his client buy for a total of $5.35 million.

POTUS: People will thank me for firing Comey when things calm down
[Washington Examiner] President Trump said Wednesday that people will thank him for firing former FBI Director James Comey, because Comey had ruined the FBI's reputation.

"Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike. When things calm down, they will be thanking me!" Trump tweeted.

Yes, Marine Le Pen's Party Is Bad, But Islamization Is Worse
h/t Instapundit
...my concern isn't with supporting populism per se. I am no fan either of the National Front (FN) or of Ms. Le Pen. My overwhelming interest is, quite simply, in standing up against the Islamization of Europe.

Yes, I wish Le Pen had more sensible views on the French welfare state; I wish her party didn't have such an ugly history. But there were two choices in this run-off election, and only one of them was promising to strive to keep France from becoming overwhelmed by Islam.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Major Journal Retracts Controversial Paper on the Dangers of Microbeads
A wave-making article on the effects of plastic microbeads on sea life has been retracted by the journal Science after an independent review board found its authors "guilty of scientific dishonesty."

The original study, published in June 2016, reported that ingesting plastic microparticles like those found in cosmetics and toiletries made baby fish "smaller, slower, and more stupid," and overall less likely to survive, as Mental Floss reported at the time.
I think I found the root cause of progressiveness.

These conclusions were not terribly surprising, as other studies have found that plastics and the chemicals that cling to them can significantly affect animal behavior, growth, and mortality. But this particular study raised some serious red flags for other experts in the field.

In response to allegations of misconduct from the scientific community, the authors' institution, Uppsala University, ordered a preliminary investigation, which was inconclusive. But the concerned researchers had also notified the Central Ethical Review Board of Sweden (CEPN), which launched a more thorough investigation of its own.

As experts began poring through their files, authors Oona Lönnstedt and Peter Eklöv contacted Science to notify the publication that their data was missing and could not be recovered or examined‐the result, they claimed, of a stolen laptop. In response, Science published an Editorial Expression of Concern.

Back in Sweden, CEPN hired ichthyologist Bertil Borg of Stockholm University to review the work, and Borg found Lönnstedt and Eklöv's paper to be riddled with problems and holes. "The suspicions of deceit cannot be denied," he wrote to the board.

The CEPN group's final report [PDF] was damning. In addition to the missing data, the board found that the authors had failed to acquire the right ethics-board permissions to experiment on the fish‐and that it's possible they may never even have conducted the experiments. The report concluded that Lönnstedt and Eklöv's responses to the allegations "have been in all essentials deficient, at times contradictory and have not infrequently given rise to further questions."

The report chided Science, one of the most prominent scientific journals in the world, for ever publishing the study in the first place.

Despite telling the journal that they disagreed with elements of the report, the authors requested on April 28 that it retract their study, and on May 3, Science did just that.

Some researchers feel a retraction is not a sufficient response to the extent of the authors' misconduct, and have pressed Uppsala to investigate further.

"We take what has happened very seriously," university representative Johan Tysk said in a statement. "It may damage confidence in the University and in research. It is also very difficult for all those involved. We intend to thoroughly review all aspects of the case, but we cannot say at present exactly how we will go about this."
Public hanging of the fraudsters. Makes others at least think twice about doing it.

But this is what happens when the religion of Gaia is more important than science. Almost all "studies" will come to the same conclusion because of that religion.

Registered sechs offender Afshin Bahrampour cuffed in Vegas
[FrontPage] A suspect was arrested and faces arson and burglary charges after investigators said he lit a pair of fires at a Las Vegas synagogue Monday evening in a possible hate crime, according to authorities.

Las Vegas Police arrested Afshin Bahrampour in a shopping center parking lot across the street from the scene of two fires set at the Chabad of Southern Nevada Desert Torah Academy at 1261 Arville Street late Monday, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Firefighters were called out to handle a car fire in the synagogue’s parking lot just after 8 p.m. Monday. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused significant damage to the vehicle and minor damage to two others.

While firefighters were cleaning up after the car fire, synagogue personnel told investigators they had extinguished a mysterious fire in a waste basket inside their building two hours earlier, Szymanski said.

Ahmadi Muslims face persecution from other Muslims in Wales
[BBC] Members of a Muslim sect in Cardiff [Wales] claim they are facing discrimination from other Muslims in the city.

Worshippers at the Ahmadiyya mosque in Canton said other Muslims had shunned them, with one claiming he was sacked from a restaurant and another that he was accosted for selling Islamic books.

Ahmadis have been declared non-Muslim in Pakistan because they do not believe Mohammed was the final prophet.

The Muslim Council of Wales (MCW) said it "abhorred" any type of persecution.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission confirmed it had "received correspondence" about the matter.

In a written statement, the MCW said: "Sunni and Shia Muslims do not recognise Mirza Gulam Ahmad as the Messiah... whereas the Ahmadiyya do.

"This forms a theological schism, and one which the majority of Sunni and Shia scholars consider to mean that Ahmadiyyas have moved beyond mainstream Islam.
Ahmadi spokesmen in the West go on TV every chance they get to tell us how tolerant Islam is.

DUI suspect in hit-run crash that left boy, 6, badly hurt was Illegal, deported 15 times
[SanDiegoUnionTribune] A drunken driving suspect in a hit-and-run crash that severely injured a 6-year-old boy in San Ysidro over the weekend has been deported from the U.S. at least 15 times, authorities said Tuesday. Constantino Banda-Acosta, 38, was last deported Jan. 18, with at least 14 prior cases since 2002, federal authorities said.
The Illegal Alien version of herpes. Just keeps coming back
Banda-Acosta is accused of speeding west on Camino de La Plaza, running a stop sign at Dairy Mart Road and slamming his pickup into a Honda Accord about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The pickup driver did not stop. Banda-Acosta, a Mexican citizen, was arrested about half an hour later, San Diego police and the U.S. Border Patrol said.

A few blocks away, shortly after midnight, agents found a damaged pickup that matched the description Ingrid Lake gave them. Inside were two men, who were detained.

Banda-Acosta was identified as the driver. He was booked into jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run with injury, drunken driving with injury and driving without a valid license.

The Border Patrol took custody of Banda-Acosta's passenger, also an unauthorized immigrant Illegal Alien, agency officials said.

Deer caught eating human remains for first time, say scientists
[Independent] Scientists have discovered the first instance of a deer which eats human remains. The animal was caught mid-feast by a motion-sensitive camera at the Forensic Anthropology Research Facility at Texas State University, a 26-acre area where forensic scientists study how human bodies decompose in the wild.

Scientists also monitor how animals interact with the bodies, but the reaction from the white-tailed deer was an unexpected crunch point.

Deer are mostly herbivores, although they have been known to scavenge small mammals or birds and occasionally eat other meats. As documented in the Journal of Forensic Scientists, the experts explained that the animal captured on camera was the "first known photographic evidence of deer gnawing human remains".

The deer was scavenging when it came across the decomposing body, which had already been feasted on by vultures. Experts watched as the animal held "the bone in its mouth like a cigar", on two occasions, in January 2015.

Grand jury subpoenas issued in FBI Russia probe: report (Video)
[The Hill] Federal prosecutors have issued grand jury subpoenas as part of the ongoing probe of Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, according to a new report.

The subpoenas to associates of former national security adviser Michael Flynn are seeking business records, CNN said Tuesday.

CNN confirmed with people familiar with the matter that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alexandria, Va., issued the subpoenas in recent weeks.

The subpoenas are a significant escalation of the FBI’s broader investigation into possible ties between Russia and President Trump’s 2016 campaign. The news of subpoenas comes on the same night President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

The White House said Comey was fired at the recommendation of the Justice Department, but critics of the administration are questioning whether the action is related to the FBI's probe of Russian election interference and any possible ties between Trump's campaign and Moscow.

Comey Received Word of Firing From TV Reports, Thought It Was Fake News
[Free Beacon] FBI Director James Comey thought it was a prank when he first heard that he had been fired on television on Tuesday.

Comey reportedly laughed at the news reports of his termination before his staffers confirmed it was true as he was speaking to FBI employees in Los Angeles, the Hill and New York Times report. TV screens behind Comey began to show the news.

Comey flew back to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday evening after receiving word of his firing. TV news helicopters followed Comey's motorcade through traffic all the way to his plane then taking off.

The letter from President Donald Trump notifying Comey of his termination was delivered to FBI headquarters in DC, but Comey was not there to receive it himself.

Barack Obama: Eating More Steaks Contributes to Climate Change
[Breitbart] Former President Barack Obama warned the world that more people on the planet were eating meat, causing a dramatic rise in climate emissions.
"As people want to increase meat consumption, that in turn is spiking the growth of greenhouse emissions coming out of the agricultural sector," Obama said, pointing to countries that were consuming more meat.

The former president shared his views about the growing threat during a conversation about food with his former chef Sam Kass at a food innovation summit in Milan.

"People aren’t as familiar with the impact of cows and methane," Obama said, adding that "as people want to increase more meat consumption, that in turn is spiking the growth of greenhouse emissions coming out of the agricultural sectors."

The amount of cows, Obama explained, were contributing to global pollution, alluding to the amounts of methane gas emissions from cow herds.

Judge Erases Aaron Hernandez's Murder Conviction
[Breitbart] A Massachusetts judge has agreed to erase the murder conviction of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez, essentially because his suicide prevents his pursuit of justice by putting an abrupt end to his appeal.

In a decision released Tuesday, Judge E. Susan Garsh said case law in Massachusetts is clear that "abatement" defendants, who are denied the ability to finish an appeal before they die, can have their convictions vacated, ABC News reported.

The former New England Patriots tight end committed suicide in his cell on April 19 while serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of football player Odin Lloyd. He died only five days after being acquitted of a second murder charge from an incident in 2012. But, Hernandez had filed an appeal of his conviction and was awaiting the process when he committed suicide.

Palestinian filmed shooting at Israeli cars rapidly apprehended
[Ynet] A Paleostinian man in his 30s allegedly shoots indiscriminately towards Israeli cars in the West Bank and is detained by the IDF within an hour; he alleges he fired his gun in self defense.

A Paleostinian was filmed shooting a gun at Israeli cars in the West Bank from a distance of about 20 meters and was detained less than an hour later on Sunday evening.

An IDF unit from the Combat Engineers’ 601st Battalion, which is responsible for the southern Hebron hills, captured the 30-year-old Paleostinian from the village of Rabud, near the town of Dahariya, after he allegedly fired the shots towards Route 60. The suspect claimed that he had fired in self-defense.

A security camera caught the incident wherein, according to the IDF, he fired more than 15 bullets. No one was hurt or injured.

"At about 19:30, the soldier on guard duty at our outpost near Otniel heard many shots, and then I heard them as well coming from nearby," the commander of the 601st Company, Capt. Neria Gur, told Ynet.

"With the help of quick intelligence activity, we closed the circle on the identity of the shooter, we got on his house and enjugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
him within half an hour," said Gur. "The weapon was hidden in the vicinity of the house and he claims to be self-defense, but we know that any illegal weapon, such as this pistol, will also be used for terrorist-related circumstances, and not only criminal."

Route 60 throughout Judea and Samaria, and particularly in the southern Hebron hills, remains open to Paleostinians, including during the wave of terrorism over the past two years.

group had grabbed credit for the mass shootings at the upscale Reina nightclub.

Turkey’s Anadolu Agency said the Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office demanded in a 90-page indictment that Masharipov receive life sentences for each of the 39 victims and for attempting to overturn Turkey’s constitutional order. Masharipov, 34, also faces separate charges of membership in a terror group, the attempted murder of 79 people maimed in the attack and other alleged crimes, Anadolu said.

It is not unusual for Turkish prosecutors to demand multiple life sentences in cases of violence that result in victims.
The prosecutor’s indictment also seeks sentences of varying lengths -- ranging from life to maximum 15 years in prison -- for 52 alleged accomplices of Masharipov’s, the private Dogan news agency reported.

It is not unusual for Turkish prosecutors to demand multiple life sentences in cases of violence that result in victims.

A court in Istanbul needs to approve the indictment before a trial date may be set.

A lawyer appointed to represent Masharipov could not immediately be reached for comment.

Turkish media have quoted Masharipov as telling his interrogators that he had received orders to carry out a New Year’s Eve attack in Istanbul from Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS group in Syria.

Those executed were of several Arab nationalities, according to the source, who added that the sentence was applied as per an order from the group’s so-called wali( mayor) of Hawija at al-Bakara airbase.

IS members have been in control over Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk since 2014, when the group came to the scene, took over several Iraqi regions and proclaimed an Islamic "caliphate".

bully boys.

Nineveh Operaions commander, Lt. Gen Abdul-Amir Yarallah, said the forces recaptured the 30 Tamuz neighborhood and became on the outskirts of 10 Tamuz and al-Haramat al-Thaletha.

He said earlier on Tuesday his forces had recaptured a major industrial area.

The developments come as Iraqi forces opened last week a new front targeting the strategic, IS-held Old City from the northwestern direction, having struggled for weeks to invade the densely populated and narrowly structured area from its southern entrances.

Iraqi commanders have reported dozens of deaths among Islamic State bully boyz and the recapture of large parts of districts falling next to the Old City from the northwest.

Earlier on Monday, a spokesperson of the Interior Ministry said ministry forces had killed 3320 IS members since the offensive to retake western Mosul was launched in February. Iraqi forces recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting.

Iraqi commanders say they currently control at least 70 percent of territory in the western side of Mosul. Some were quoted saying they expect the city to be entirely under their control before the end of May.

Bangladesh
Photo of another Bangladeshi al-Qaeda member released online
[Dhaka Tribune] According to al-Qaeda’s Bangla platform Dawahilallah, Abu Ibrahim alias Saiful Islam Hasan was killed in a US operation in Kandahar of Afghanistan in 2015

Al-Qaeda has published a photo of a Bangladeshi-origin leader who was killed while fighting for the bully boy group in Afghanistan.

The youth was identified as Abu Ibrahim in a post published recently on al-Qaeda’s Bangla platform Dawahilallah by a senior member.

According to the post, accessed early Tuesday, he was killed in a US operation in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2015.

When asked by another user why the senior member, Abul Fida (organizational name), posted an old news in the forum, Fida said that he had learnt about the matter in a video released recently.

It is assumed that Abu Ibrahim is the organizational name of Saiful Islam Hasan.

His name first came up late last month when al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) released a statement announcing the death of Tariq alias Sohel, identified as the head of Bangladesh affairs.

It also said that Sohel’s aides who had "embraced martyrdom" with him were Abu Ibrahim alias Saiful Islam Hasan, Qari Abdul Aziz alias Abdul Halim, Yaqub alias Saddam Hossain, Asadullah alias Nazimuddin Maimoon and Abu Bakr alias Anuj Hasib.

Dhaka Tribune could not independently verify the identities.

The law enforcers too have not been able to give details of the persons named in the statement.

Swedish-Bangladeshi journalist Tasneem Khalil told the Dhaka Tribune that he believed Sohel was the handler of Bangladeshi affairs in Afghanistan, not the Bangladesh chief of AQIS.

Ashiqur Rahman Sulaiman was the first Bangladeshi to have been killed in Afghanistan fighting for al-Qaeda in recent years, he said. An al-Qaeda video from March 2015 described him as a martyr.

"Sohel and his lover companions were all members of the Bangladeshi markaz in Afghanistan," Tasneem said.

AQIS was formed in late 2014 with the declared intention of waging jihad in India, Pakistain, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It is headquartered in Pakistain.

Since January 2013, the group has taken credit for 13 attacks in which 11 were killed and four others sustained critical injuries. The last operation killed two LGBT rights activists in Dhaka on April 25, 2016.

China-Japan-Koreas
A North Korean Nuclear EMP Attack? … Unlikely
[38North.org] Size Matters
Therein lies my insignificance.
This is an instance where size does matter: the larger the nuclear explosion, the larger the affected area. While technical reports and papers on EMP from nuclear detonations are mostly classified, there is a paper by D. Hafemeister of California Polytechnic Institute that provides sufficient detail to derive a simple rule of thumb on the relationship between affected distance and nuclear device yield. The paper makes some simplifying assumptions:
  • The detonation is spherically symmetric (which may not always be the case);

  • The Earth’s magnetic field is not accounted for;

  • Prompt gamma rays account for 0.3 percent of the total energy of the explosion and are emitted within the first 10 nanoseconds of detonation;

  • About 0.6 percent of the prompt gamma rays produce relativistic electrons that constitute the E1 component of the EMP; and

  • The electric field damage threshold is 15,000 volts/meter or higher in the E1 component.

Plugging in the numbers and presuming these assumptions are appropriate, the rule of thumb is surprisingly simple: D = Y, where D is the maximum damage distance expressed in kilometers and Y is the yield of the blast in kilotons. So, a 20 KT bomb detonated at optimum height would have a maximum EMP damage distance of 20 km; a 1 MT (1,000 KT) bomb would damage out to 1,000 km. The largest North Korean test to date has been estimated to be about 20 KT.

Conclusions
Considering the physics behind EMP and the status of North Korea’s nuclear program to date, doomsday headlines in the press regarding the North’s potential EMP threat are grossly overstated.[4] North Korea’s nuclear tests have not yet demonstrated sufficient yield to cause damage to large areas through EMP. Moreover, with only a limited arsenal, it would not make sense for the North Koreans to conduct nuclear tests simply to develop EMP weapons.
Dunno.

India-Pakistan
Govt urged to transfer Mashal case to military court
[DAWN] SWABI: The government was on Monday urged to transfer the lynching case of Mashal Khan, a student of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, to military court.

The demand was made by leaders of Qam Qalm, a literary body, and Mashal Forum, while speaking at a meeting here.

Hailing from Zaida area, Mashal Khan, a student of mass communication, was lynched on the varsity campus by a mob of students, university staffers and outsiders on alleged blasphemy charges on April 13.

They said Mashal was sent to the university by his poor parents to acquire higher education so he could bring prosperity to the family as well as the country, but their dreams were shattered. They lamented that Arif Khan Mardanvi, a former PTI councillor who was seen in the video warning a crowd not to disclose Mashal Khan’s killers, was yet to be tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Dr Mohammad Jasim, patron-in-chief of Qam Qalm, said leaders of political and religious parties, human right activists and social workers had demanded awarding exemplary punishment to Mashal’s killers.

"We have to shield our young generation from falling prey to the tricks of those who want to achieve their nefarious ends through these tactics," he said.

Tasawar Manerwal, president of Qam Qalm, said from the Mashal’s case they should learn a lesson that laws of the country must take their due course and the youth should not jump to conclusions without knowing the true nature of a situation.

Liaqat Yousafzai, Mashal Forum’s general secretary, said efforts had been underway to rename the University of Swabi as Mashal University Swabi.

Jan Bahadar, a member of Maneri Jirga, said it was vital to give exemplary punishment to those involved in Mashal’s killing for smooth running of the affairs of universities and other educational institutions.

[DAWN] "YOU can’t clap with one hand," one of the rapists in the notorious Delhi gang rape case had famously said after being convicted of rape and murder. This man, along with five others, had been found guilty of taking a young woman to the back of a Delhi bus one night in December 2012. The men raped the young woman inflicting injuries that were so terrible that the doctors, including those in Singapore, where she was sent for treatment, could not save her. A few weeks after the incident -- after she had identified her assailants and given her statement -- she succumbed to her injuries.

Last week, the Supreme Court of India upheld the death sentence handed out by a lower court to five of the men who had raped her. (One escaped the sentence as he was a juvenile at the time of the crime. He spent three years in a correctional facility.)

It was an unusual move, according to experts; lower courts in India routinely hand out death sentences but many if not most are overturned on appeal based on some technicality such as shoddy investigation by the law-enforcement authorities. So it was expected it would be the same in this case, some detail or procedural provision invoked to show ’mercy’ to the men. The fact that this did not happen signifies that the highest court in India saw it necessary to uphold the worst possible punishment in a case so grotesque that it saw hundreds of protests across India and headlines around the world.

Hanford tunnel breach confirmed in emergency at nuclear reservation
An emergency has been declared in central Hanford in Eastern Washington state Tuesday after the roof of a tunnel used to store highly radioactively contaminated waste collapsed.

Several thousand workers at the Hanford nuclear reservation were told to take shelter in buildings.

About 1:35 p.m. non-essential workers north of Hanford’s Wye Barricade were told to go home. Swing shift was canceled for much of the site.
...
No one was being allowed to enter the site beyond the security barricades and flights over the reservation were restricted for much of the morning.

According to the Peshmerga Ministry, five ISIS jacket wallahs tried to infiltrate into the Kiwan Airbase west of Kirkuk.

"Two of them detonated their boom belts near the main gate of the Kiwan Airbase after failing to break into the base," a Peshmerga officer told ARA News on Monday.

At least two Peshmerga guards bit the dust and six others were maimed in the kaboom.

The source confirmed that three other suicide bombers were killed by Peshmerga fire before reaching their target.

"The strict security measures by the Peshmerga and allied US-led coalition’s forces prevented these Death Eaters from infiltrating into the base," the Kurdish official told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity

Afghanistan
Pakistan Asked To Stop ‘Supporting Terrorists’
[Tolo News] Dozens of residents and tribal elders from both sides of the Durand Line blamed Pakistain on Tuesday of supporting and training forces of Evil and stated that ISIS is also supported by some circles within Pakistain.

Speaking at a gathering in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
they urged Pakistain to stop "supporting terrorists", saying ISIS was a serious threat to the region.

The residents vowed to cooperate with the Afghan cops in their efforts to eliminate bully boys.

"Pakistain is destroying our homes on the other side of the Durand Line. We are not terrorists. It is Pakistain that has turned ISIS into a big force on the two sides of the Durand Line," said Zarjan Shinwari, head of a tribal council on the Pakistain side of the Durand Line.

The participants at the gathering said Pak military in plain clothes come into the tribal belt areas and intimidate people.

"We witnessed many things. Many were killed and this process continues. But we cannot talk anymore and we cannot say what we want," said Hayat Massoud, a tribal elder from Wazoo.

"We organize meetings in Islamabad as well. We take action against terrorism there [in Islamabad] as well," said Hukum Khan, a tribal elder from Khyber Agency
... the place to go if you've got an Indiana Jones hat and whip. Chock full of high adventure and treacherous Pathans. You should really train up to it, though...
Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
residents along the Afghan side of the Durand Line criticized Pakistain’s incursions and said Islamabad should stop firing missiles at Afghanistan.

"Pakistain fires rockets onto this side of the Durand Line. By this, they want to evacuate houses along the Durand Line and then want to bring its military to those areas," said Jahanzib Mohmand, a tribal elder in Nangarhar.

"Pakistain should evacuate its forces from tribal areas and it should avoid extending the war. We can ensure the safety of our areas by our tribal agreements," said Khairuddin Seddiqi, a tribal elder.

The participants issued a resolution where they called on Pakistain to stop any move to build fences along the Durand Line.

The resolution also stipulated that the international community needs to help save people from terrorism along both sides of the Durand Line.

Scientists Found A ‘Totally Unexpected' Source Of Climate Cooling
[TheLibertarianRepublic] Arctic waters absorbed vast amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, creating a cooling effect that's 230 times greater than the warming from methane emitted from underwater seeps, according to a new study.

The findings are a complete reversal of what scientists previously believed ‐ that methane seeps in the Arctic Ocean were contributing to global warming.
Can we all agree now that you idiots really don't know what the fuck you are talking about when it comes to climate?
"If what we observed near Svalbard occurs more broadly at similar locations around the world, it could mean that methane seeps have a net cooling effect on climate, not a warming effect as we previously thought," John Pohlman, a U.S. Geological Survey biochemist and lead author of the study, said in a statement Monday.

If the results hold, Pohlman's study could have big implications for how scientists calculate the global carbon "budget" and for future projections of global warming.
I guess not. The religion and gods illusion must be maintained at all costs.
"This is … totally unexpected," Brett Thornton, a Swedish geochemist who was not involved in the study, told Science Magazine.

A group of U.S., German and Norwegian scientists measured methane and carbon dioxide concentrations off Svalbard's coast. They found 2,000 times more carbon dioxide was taken out of the atmosphere than methane escaping from underwater vents.

Methane escaping margin seeps at depths of 260 to 295 feet appeared to stimulate marine phytoplankton, which may have increased their intake of carbon dioxide. The study "suggests physical mechanisms that transport methane to the surface may also transport nutrient-enriched water that supports enhanced primary production and CO2 drawdown."

"These findings challenge the widely held perception that areas characterized by shallow-water methane seeps and/or strongly elevated sea−air methane flux always increase the global atmospheric greenhouse gas burden," reads the study's executive summary.

Pohlman cautioned the "cooling effect" of the seeps may be limited to certain times of the year, but he and his team were astounded to find such low amounts of methane above the seeps.

"These areas of methane seepage may be net greenhouse gas sinks," reads a summary of the work.

Methane is a more potent gas than carbon dioxide, and scientists have become increasingly worried about "methane bomb" from thawing permafrost and warming oceans. Methane hydrates from the ocean floor "a key cause of the global warming that led to one of the largest extinctions in the earth's history," Ryo Matsumoto, a University of Tokyo professor, said in 2008.

Scientists worry a huge release of methane from the sea floor could cause massive amounts of warming. One 2016 study warned "the release of methane from hydrate may be apocalyptic."
And yet it has happened in the past... and life survived. It will happen in the future... and life will survive.
But Pohlman's research suggests there's a lot more to learn about methane seeps and their role in global greenhouse gas inventories.

Pohlman's study was the first to observe this in methane-rich waters, but the implications for climate science could be big if results can be replicated at other methane seeps.

"We are looking forward to testing the hypothesis that shallow-water methane seeps are net greenhouse gas sinks in other locations," Pohlman said.
But humans are still killing the planet so give us all your money.

Most people thought the difference comes from CO2 sequestration in soils or in the ocean. The relative contribution of these two vectors is, of course, still under research. Anonymous warns world to ‘prepare' for World War 3
[NYPost] The infamous hacktivist group Anonymous has released a chilling new video — urging people across the globe to “prepare” for World War 3 — as the US and North Korea continue to move “strategic pieces into place” for battle.

“All the signs of a looming war on the Korean peninsula are surfacing,” the group says in the ominous six-minute clip, posted on YouTube over the weekend.

Using their signature Guy Fawkes character, the hackers make several claims about recent military movements in the region — and alleged warnings made by Japan and South Korea about imminent nuclear attacks from the North — as they deliver their frightening prophecy.

“Watching as each country moves strategic pieces into place,” the organization says, in its notorious robotic voice. “But unlike past world wars, although there will be ground troops, the battle is likely to be fierce, brutal and quick. It will also be globally devastating, both on environmental and economical levels.”

Iran test-fires torpedo in the Strait of Hormuz
[FoxNews] The Hoot torpedo, which has a range of six miles, was fired in the Strait of Hormuz, where much of the world’s oil passes each day.

It's unclear if the torpedo test was successful.

The test was carried out in Iranian territorial waters and did not break any international protocols, but the advances Iran is making with this powerful torpedo -- which could travel at 250 miles per hour -- has Pentagon officials worried.

It is not the first time Iran has tried to test this torpedo. The last time it did so was in February 2015.

Euthanizing street drugs
[Fox] A lethal new drug dubbed “gray death” by authorities that is dangerous to even touch with gloves is being eyed in overdose cases across Georgia, Alabama and Ohio. Investigators said the high-potency cocktail — which is comprised of heroin, fentanyl, the elephant tranquilizer carfentanil, and a synthetic opioid called U-47700 — can kill users with a single dose.

A spokeswoman for the agency told the Associated Press that they’ve seen 50 overdoses cases involving gray death over the past three months. Users can inject, swallow, smoke or snort the drug, which varies in consistency and looks like a concrete mixture.

The Ohio coroner’s office told the news agency that a compound similar to gray death has been coming in for months, with at least eight samples matching the drug mixture. A user can buy the lethal cocktail for as low as $10 on the street, Forbes reported.

Fifth Column
At its worst, however, Left Forum is Comic Con for Marxists‐Commie Con, if you will‐and an absolute shitshow of nerds and social rejects.
[TheBaffler.com] A few weeks back in Manhattan, hundreds of socialists, communists, anarchists, and even few decent “small-d” democrats shuffled into the unlikely venue of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice (ironically, best known as a “cop school”) for Left Forum 2015. If you aren’t up on your radical political symposiums, Left Forum evolved out of the now-defunct Socialist Scholars Conference, which was re-founded in 1981 after the original Socialist Scholars Conference petered out in the 1960s. The SSC grew into the largest, most prominent leftist summit in the United States, though nationwide university cuts eventually curtailed both budget and staff for the event. By 2004 it was renamed Left Forum, and it still commands a big draw: This year’s confab boasted 1,300 speakers and four hundred events under the salient title of “No Justice, No Peace: Confronting the Crises of Capitalism and Democracy.”
Yeah, because democracy is a crisis. Jesus.
At its best, Left Forum remains a reassuring beacon of cameraderie and ambition. In addition to seasoned journalists, organizers and academics, it usually snags a few big public intellectuals, like Noam Chomsky, David Harvey, and Angela Davis, while also peppering the bill with high-profile activists like Harry Belafonte and Michael Moore. The organizers sometimes even lure the odd political success story, most recently Kshama Sawant, Seattle City Council member and open socialist. Generally, both speakers and attendees are smart, friendly, and often quite young and good-looking (if I do say so myself).

At its worst, however, Left Forum is Comic Con for Marxists—Commie Con, if you will—and an absolute shitshow of nerds and social rejects. There are bitter old codgers that will harangue you about a thirty-some-years-old internecine grudge, and there are politically unsophisticated kids with Che Guevara t-shirts and Adbusters subscriptions. There are sanctimonious Trotskyists, ridiculous Maoist Third-Worldists, condescending horizontalist anarchists, smug social democrats and a glut of ardent adherents to similarly esoteric ideological traditions, all competing for the title of Most Insufferable Anti-Capitalist. Left Forum is notorious for grueling Q&A sessions, often with nary a “Q” to be found. People like to demonstrate how many books they’ve read (or worse, have written and self-published) in embarrassing displays of pretension and/or machismo, and cynicism is frequently substituted for insight.

But the grumps and the brats, the blowhards and the sectarians, the narcissists and the pessimists—all of these people are bearable to me, some even charming. No, the worst part of Left Forum is the crackpots, the paranoiacs, the hysterics, and all the other truly dysfunctional personalities attracted by the conference’s most infamous policy: no panel submission will be rejected.
It's good to know that the Left has problems, too.

Denmark joins combat against Somalia piracy
[SHABELLENEWS] The Danish government is deploying a Challenger airplane to support maritime security in the Horn of Africa.

Additionally, the government decided that Denmark will again make a Challenger airplane available for the Mediterranean efforts to monitor EU’s outer borders.

"I am pleased that once again, Denmark can play a part in maritime security in the Horn of Africa region. The waters of the region play a vital role in international commercial shipping, and Denmark has previously won great international recognition for our role here," said Anders Samuelsen, Denmark’s minister for foreign affairs.

The Danish air detachment will be deployed for about 30 days from the middle of May 2017 to the middle of June 2017.

During its deployment, the detachment will be tasked to support Task Force 150 by gathering intelligence, which can contribute to on-going surveillance and building situational awareness in the Indian Ocean.

At the time of deployment, Task Force 150 will be under French leadership.

Murder Mystery? A Plane, A Freezer, A Crematorium, A Really Big Bunny

[USAToday] DES MOINES -- A 3-foot giant rabbit that died last month following a United Airlines flight from London may have mistakenly been placed in a freezer by airline employees, a Des Moines attorney announced Monday.
This rabbits hot, lets cool him off in here for a while.
Additionally, the rabbit was cremated by United following its death, making an autopsy to determine what exactly happened impossible, Cook said. That action by the airline was tantamount to "destroying evidence" in the case, he said. The airline cremated the remains without the permission of the ownership group, he said.
Aw man!! He's cold as ice now, here, take him somewhere and thaw him out!
"Whatever the cause of Simon's death may be, Simon died in the care of United Airlines' and its decision to destroy his remains establishes a reckless disregard for the Simon Group's rights and are indicative of the negligent care United Airlines provided Simon," a demand letter from the attorney reads.
"Hey Boss, he got too hot, what'll we do now?"
"Finish him. No rabbit ashes, no rabbit evidence. Save one of the rabbits foot, though, we'll need it!"

In addition to the investigation, the ownership group is demanding the airline to pay for the purchase price of the rabbit, shipping costs and the "economic loss" of the rabbit's death. The demand letter gives United seven days to respond before a lawsuit is filed.

The giant bunny was purchased from British rabbit breeder Annette Edwards, who told the Sun newspaper that Simon had a check-up with a vet three hours before the flight and was "fit as a fiddle." Edwards owns Simon’s four-foot long father, Darius, who currently holds the title as the world’s biggest rabbit.

APS Shuhada Forum seeks trial, punishment of former Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan
[DAWN] The APS Shuhada Forum on Tuesday filed a writ petition in the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court (PHC) seeking trial and sentencing of Ehsanullah Ehsan
...formerly the front man for the Pak Taliban, now the lips and tongue of the Jamaatul Ahrar splinter group in Mohmand Agency...
, former spokesperson of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain (TTP), for his involvement in the 2014 terrorist attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School (APS) which left 144 students and staff dead.

Shuhada Forum comprises family members of those killed in the bloodshed at the school. Its president, Fazal Khan, who is a lawyer and the main petitioner, accused Ehsan for carrying out the deadly attack, demanding the court to stop the government from granting clemency to the terrorist.

Khan named various parties as respondents in the writ, such as Government of Pakistain, Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Human Rights, Ministry of Law and Justice. Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, director general of Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
and General Headquarters of Pakistain Army.

"The very next day of the APS attack, Ehsanullah Ehsan claimed the responsibility of the brutal attack and warned to carry more attacks in future," the petition read, adding, "The surrender or arrest of the main accused and criminal mastermind of the APS attack gives some hope that the men involved in the attack would be brought in to justice."

"But unfortunately, to the disappointment, the said Ehsanullah Ehsan is far from the aisles of justice," Khan said in the petition, saying the former TTP spokesperson is "being portrayed as an unaware, innocent and a brainwashed man" who had unknowingly planned the "slaughter in the APS attack and many other terror activities".

The forum's president in the writ petition also asked the PHC to direct the government to try Ehsan in a military court for "speedy justice".

The petitioner further added that under the Qisas (retribution) and Diyat (blood money) law, only the victim's heirs have the right to forgive the accused.

Therefore, the state has no legal authority to "forgive" Ehsan, the petition claimed.

Iran entitled to destroy terrorists’ hideout in Pakistan: commander
[Iran Press TV] A senior Iranian military commander says the country reserves the right to destroy the lairs of murderous Moslems in Pakistain following a recent terrorist crime against Iranian border guards serving on the country’s southeastern frontier.

"The Armed Forces of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran condemn such measures and if the Pak government does not take serious measures, they (Iranian forces) reserve the absolute and legal right to resolutely counter and destroy the lairs of murderous Moslems however deep inside the neighboring country’s soil," Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said on Tuesday.

He added that Iranian Armed Forces would spare no efforts to safeguard the country’s security.

The commander said the terrorist attack near the town of Mirjaveh against the Iranian border guards, who were confident of Pakistain controlling its border areas based on the border protocols, lacked any operational value and was not regarded as a success but "indicated the weakness of Pakistain."

On April 26, 11 Iranian border guards were killed in festivities near Mirjaveh in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan. The so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group grabbed credit for the attack, which was launched from the Pak soil. The assailants escaped into Pak territory immediately after the attack.

In a telephone conversation with Pak Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
on Monday, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli called on Pakistain to take swift measures to improve security along its borders with Iran.

Rahmani Fazli said Islamabad should prevent the infiltration of murderous Moslems into Iran, smuggling of narcotics and illegal crossing into Iran by Afghan nationals from the Pak border.

Afghanistan
EU Accuses Taliban Of War Crimes, Calls For End To Violence
[Tolo News] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
(EU) has accused the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
of committing war crimes by killing innocent civilians and destroying towns, and called on the group to end the violence.

EU Special Representative to Afghanistan Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin said that the killing of innocent civilians and the destruction of towns by the Taliban was no longer acceptable.

Mellbin rallied for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan.

"The Taliban have committed war crimes, because of the targeting of the Afghan civilians. This of course it is a very sad fact. We continue the calls on the Taliban to stop their attacks against Afghan civilians," said Mellbin.

Mellbin made the remarks during the Europe Day celebrations in Kabul.

Besides efforts for peace on political fronts, there are also artists promoting peace in the country.

Attia is one such artist who started her drive for peace through art a year ago. She believes that the message of peace conveyed through art will one day occupy the hearts of bully boys.

"Every youth wants to live in peace. We call on the holy warriors not to disrupt our peaceful life," said Attia.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the pastor had finally been wrestled from the pulpit.
Y'got the wrong guy! he yelled just before Sergeant Malone's billy club landed...

the EU envoy also hailed Hekmatyar for joining the grinding of the peace processor.

"Peace agreement with the Hizb-e-Islami was a positive step forward for Afghanistan. I think it sent a very important signal that peace is possible, but it also shows us that peace is difficult, it will not come easy. There are a lot of questions about what happened in the past, a lot of questions of what will happen now," added Mellbin.

But a number of Kabul residents have also called on the Taliban to stop the bloodshed and to join the grinding of the peace processor.

"How long should we witness war and violence? Come and join peace and do not make our children orphans and stop snatching the sons from their mothers," a resident of Kabul Roeena said.

Mellbin did however sound optimistic in that he thought peace was possible.

This latest call for peace comes after the Taliban launched its new spring offensive and ramped up attacks and battles across the country.

Heavy Clashes Ongoing Close To Kunduz City
[Tolo News] Soldiers on the first line of the battlefield in Kunduz urged government to pay attention to the needs of security and defense forces in the province.

A number of security forces in Kunduz province on Tuesday said heavy festivities are ongoing between Afghan soldiers and Taliban
...Arabic for students...
in areas close to Kunduz city and at least five police and army outposts are under siege by the holy warriors.

According to the soldiers, the festivities have closed the Kunduz-Takhar Highway to traffic for past five days.

TOLOnews’ news hound Karim Amini said the Talibs are at least 150 meters far from the Kunduz city’s exit gate in Charkhab area which is 1.5 kilometers far from the center of the city.

He said the forces on the first line of the battleground have called for help and some of them are complaining about lack of coordination.

"Mr. [President] Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..

... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
is busy in fashion. I tell the truth. I do not fear from anyone. There are weapons, tanks, but there is no faith," the Garrison Commander of Kunduz Mujahid Azimi said.

"We move forward but with every advancement, we hold a session. The war cannot move on with sessions," Rahim said referring to lack of coordination among security forces in the province.

"We are in war with bully boyz for the past few days. The Taliban [militants] are 150 meters far from here. They are in civilians houses," said Haji Omid, an army soldier.

"We have not made any advancement. We retreated and the first line of the battle is here at the moment. We will try to advance tonight [Tuesday night]," said Rahmatullah, commander of Kunduz Highway Squad.

On Monday a number of MPs sharply criticized Kunduz officials for not maintaining security and said they should be introduced to judicial centers and should answer to the people.

US ignores Turkey’s objection, approves arming Kurdish forces in Syria
Message sent.
[Iran Press TV] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has authorized the arming of Kurdish forces in Syria despite fierce opposition from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The Pentagon made the announcement on Tuesday, stressing that arming the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is to "ensure a clear victory" in operations aimed at the liberation of Raqqah from the ISIS terrorist group.

The US currently provides air support for members of the SDF -- a Kurdish-dominated and anti-Damascus alliance. They have largely surrounded Raqqah and are expected to begin an offensive soon.

The SDF is led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) which Ankara views as a terrorist organization over its alleged links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

"We are keenly aware of the security concerns of our coalition partner Turkey," said Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White. "We want to reassure the people and government of Turkey that the US is committed to preventing additional security risks and protecting our NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
ally," she added.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer also confirmed the announcement, "Yesterday the president authorized the Department of Defense to equip Kurdish elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces as necessary to ensure a clear victory over ISIS in Raqqah, Syria. The SDF partnered with enabling support from US and coalition forces are the only force on the ground to successfully seize Raqqah in the near future."

The move was announced after US Defense Secretary James Mattis said Washington will be cooperating with Turkey to liberate the ISIS-held northeastern Syrian city of Raqqah.

"We are going to sort it out and figure out how we are going to do it, but we are all committed to it," he added.
Update from the Daily Mail at 1:00 a.m. EDT:
A full list wasn't immediately available, but officials had indicated in recent days that 120mm mortars, machines guns, ammunition and light armored vehicles were possibilities.

They said the U.S. would not provide artillery or surface-to-air missiles.

US officials recommend 3,000 to 5,000 more troops for Afghanistan
[Iran Press TV] US military officials and the State Department have recommended sending 3,000 to 5,000 additional troops, including hundreds of Special Operations forces, to Afghanistan, according to American media reports.

American officials said the US military needs a bigger role in Afghanistan to push the Taliban

bully boy group back to the negotiating table. They have also called for authority to target Taliban leaders with Arclight airstrikes.

The proposal has yet to be approved by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, but according to The New York Times

, Trump was close to signing off on the recommendation, which is the result of a broad review by the Pentagon, the State Department, intelligence community and other government agencies on the Afghan war.

Seattle mayor Ed Murray drops re-election bid amid sexual abuse claim scandal
[CNN] Ed Murray, who denies sexual abuse allegations against him, withdrew Tuesday from the Seattle mayor's race, saying the campaign should be focused on issues, not scandal.

In April, Murray was accused in a civil lawsuit of sexually abusing a teenage boy about 30 years ago.

Murray, who was elected in 2014 after 18 years as a state lawmaker, said, "The allegations against me are not true. But the scandal surrounding them and me is hurting this city."

He told reporters the race should be about issues such as homelessness, the city's growth and livability, and on equitability and affordability.

"The mayor's race must be focused on these issues, not on a scandal, which it would be focused on if I were to remain in this race."

US, UK, Jordan deploy troops, tanks in southern Syria
[Iran Press TV] Reports coming out of Syria suggest that a joint military force of US, British, and Jordanian troops, equipped with tanks and helicopters, have reportedly been deployed in the war-torn country's southern border areas from Jordan's northern region.

The troops are now reportedly positioned in a long strip region across the border zones of Syria's southern provinces of Dara'a and Suwayda, from Tel Shahab rural area, just a few hundred meters from the Jordanian border, to al-Nasib Border Crossing and Khirbet Awad village.

The forces have also been seen near Ramtha, a Jordanian city, located in the far northwest of the Arab country close to the Syrian border.

The media bureau of Syria's Joint Operation Command also released a number of aerial photos (shown below), taken by drones, which purportedly showed the presence of a large number of British Challenger tanks, UK's main battle tank (MBT), and American Cobra and Black Hawk helicopters.

Daesh beheads ‘Russian officer’ in front of camera

...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
ISIS terror group has released video footage purportedly showing the beheading of a Russian intelligence officer captured in Syria, a report says.

The SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based organization that tracks terrorists’ online activities, reported the emergence of the 12-minute Russian-language video on Tuesday.

Russia has denied reports of the alleged execution.

The footage shows a Takfiri holy warrior clad in black ranting before proceeding to behead the purported agent, according to the report.

The executioner is seen in the video urging Russian agents to surrender and saying, "This idiot believed the promises of his state not to abandon him if he was captured."

The release coincides with Russian celebrations marking the anniversary of the 1945 victory over Nazi Germany with military parades.

Tehran's warning against spirit of Pak-Iran brotherly relations, FO tells envoy
[DAWN] The Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday cautioned Tehran that a warning issued by the Iranian army chief a day earlier was against the "spirit of brotherly relations" between Pakistain and Iran.

The FO summoned Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost to convey Pakistain's concerns regarding a warning issued by Maj Gen Mohammad Baqeri that Tehran would hit 'militant safe havens' inside Pakistain if the government did not confront bandidos forces of Evil who carried out cross-border attacks last month.

"We expect Pak officials to control the borders, arrest the bully boyz and shut down their bases," Baqeri had said on Monday. "If the terrorist attacks continue, we will hit their safe havens and cells, wherever they are," he added.

During his meeting with the ambassador, FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, highlighting an improvement in bilateral relations between the two countries, urged Iran to refrain from making statements that would harm relations, according to the statement.

Zakaria said an agreement had already been reached to "enhance cooperation on border issues" during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on May 3.

Zarif in his visit had asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
to improve border security, and Pakistain had assured Iran it would deploy additional troops along its border.

Indian national Uzma will not be repatriated until legal requirements are completed: FO
[DAWN] The Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday said that Uzma, an Indian woman who came to Pakistain to marry a man from Buner and went ’missing’ last week, will be repatriated only after all legal requirements are completed.

Uzma, 20, had sought refuge at the Indian High Commission last week and asked to be repatriated to India after her marriage to Tahir Ali, a resident of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
, claiming she only came to know after her nikkah was solemnised that Ali was already married and had four children.

During a court hearing on Monday, Uzma alleged that Ali had forced her to enter a marriage contract at gunpoint and subsequently subjected her to physical and sexual abuse. He also confiscated her documents, she claimed, adding that she was not under any sort of pressure while recording her statement.

FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria told DawnNews that Uzma's case is currently being heard in court and she will only be able to return once all legal requirements are complete.

Landmine blast injures 7 in the Kenyan town of Garissa
[SHABELLENEWS] A landmine kaboom which hit a vehicle in the Kenyan town of Garissa on Monday late afternoon injured seven people -- six critically -- the Kenya Red Thingy has confirmed.

In a statement, the Kenya Red Thingy said the injured had been rushed to Liboi Health Center just after the kaboom.

It is not the first time that such attacks have happened in Kenya. In June last year an ambulance driver was killed in Garissa county and medics were maimed after they drove over a landmine which security forces say had been planted by bully boyz from the Somalia-based al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
There have also been numerous cases of police deaths in Kenya -- particularly in Garissa county -- after unsuspecting officers drove over devices believed to have been placed by al-Shabaab bad boys.

Garissa county has witnessed numerous attacks by al-Shabaab, who cross into Kenya through the porous Kenya-Somali border.

Trump finally shitcans dismisses FBI Director James Comey
[Iran Press TV] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has fired FBI Director James Comey, amid probes of potential contacts between Trump’s campaign and Russian officials prior to the 2016 presidential election.

"The president has accepted the recommendation of the Attorney General and the deputy Attorney General regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation," White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in statement on Tuesday.

In a letter to Comey, the US president said, "It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission."

It was not immediately clear exactly why Comey was ousted.

"The FBI is one of our Nation's most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement," Trump said in the letter.

#3  FBI Deputy Andy McCabe desperately needs to find new employment as well. I worry about Comey. A blimp hanger in Mountain View couldn't contain that fellows ego. Running afoul of the Clinton's, an additional downside.

#5  This will do nothing but increase the TDS.

No public employee will ever have warm feelings for a person who ever uttered the words, "You're fired", under any circumstances. But to can someone this high up, with this amount of bulletproof income stream security? Absolute chills, because it forces them to consider that their own magic paycheck could be cleansed away, as well.

Expect doubling down on Trump hysteria.

Don't give the boss incorrect information that leaves his posterior exposed when he uses it. Make sure the boss knows important information before the press does. For sub-execs like Comey those are key job responsibilities, and he failed in them at least twice recently.

#13  Sources Claim That Comey Firing Could Result In Release Of Documents, Potential New Clinton Probe

"Upon news of Comey’s removal, Julian Assange tweeted that a source within the FBI had informed him that the Bureau would begin leaking documents from the investigation. He urged the FBI to release documents in full to prevent any misrepresentations by the press. On the heels of Assange’s announcement, an additional source claimed that the Deputy Attorney General will now oversee a new Clinton probe following Comey’s dismissal, and would do so in close proximity to acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe for lack of trust.

If confirmed, the reports indicate that Comey’s firing represents a renewed focus on information pertaining to the investigation into Hillary Clinton, after the previous one was criticized by both supporters and detractors of the Former Secretary of State and Senator, both of whom painted the investigation as being either politically motivated or hampered by alleged attempts to cover up evidence of wrongdoing."

#19  Perhaps Rod Rosenstein also discovered a leaker.

That, and timing. It's a bit long -- sorry:

Byron York: To fire Comey, Trump team waited for Rosenstein

The structure was this: The FBI director reported to the deputy attorney general, who reported to the attorney general, who reported to the president. When Trump fired Comey Tuesday afternoon, that chain of command had been in place for all of 14 days.

Here's what I have been able to glean so far about the decision to fire FBI Director James Comey:

During the transition, there were members of the Trump team involved with justice and law enforcement issues who felt Comey should be fired. They believed Comey had badly screwed up the Hillary Clinton investigation — first to Trump's detriment, on July 5, when he essentially laid out an indictment of Clinton but concluded by saying no charges would be brought, and later to Trump's benefit, on Oct. 28, just 11 days before the election, when he re-opened the Clinton investigation. And then, on the Sunday before election day, Comey meekly said "never mind," as if he had not just intervened in a presidential election.

It's not that the Trump team members who had experience in law enforcement issues were angry that Comey had at times hurt or helped Trump's chances. Looking ahead, the issue was that Comey seemed inconsistent and a weak leader. "All over the map," said one person involved in the transition. "A mess all the way through," said a lawmaker who supports Trump.

But those same Trump team members who believed Comey should go also believed there should be a process involved in doing it. Truth be told, not all of them — some wanted to see Trump fire everybody on Jan. 21: U.S. attorneys, ambassadors, Obama holdovers, everybody. But the more institutionally-minded members of the Trump team wanted to see a process observed. In the case of removing Comey, that involved going through the chain of command.

The structure was this: The FBI director reported to the deputy attorney general, who reported to the attorney general, who reported to the president. When Trump fired Comey Tuesday afternoon, that chain of command had been in place for all of 14 days.

First, it took a long time to get an attorney general in office. Facing Democratic opposition, Jeff Sessions, one of the president's first nominees, was not confirmed by the Senate until Feb. 8. Then, it took a long time to get a deputy attorney general in place. Rod Rosenstein, the deputy — and the man who wrote the rationale for axing Comey — faced similar Democratic delays and was not sworn in until April 26.

Only after Rosenstein was in place did the Trump team move ahead. That was true not only for chain-of-command reasons but also — probably more importantly — because Rosenstein had the bipartisan street cred to be able to be the point man in firing Comey. Even though his confirmation was delayed, Rosenstein was eventually confirmed by the Senate by a 94 to 6 vote, meaning that the vast majority of Democratic senators voted for him along with all of the Republicans.

How important was the arrival of Rosenstein to the bid to fire Comey? This, from a source in a Senate office Wednesday morning: "Many who are suggesting that there's something nefarious about the timing of the Comey firing are likely missing the fact that DAG Rosenstein was sworn in two weeks ago (April 26), and that the FBI Director reports to the DAG on the DOJ org chart. It seems completely normal that the DAG would review their top reports within the first couple weeks of starting."

NC motorists who hit protesters blocking roadways will be legally protected under proposed bill
[FOX] Drivers in North Carolina might soon be allowed to plow their cars through protesters forming human walls on the road.

A new bill approved by the state House will legally protect motorists who hit protesters blocking the road—as long as they “exercise due care,” according to The News & Observer in Raleigh.

House Bill 330 was approved in a 67-48 vote late last week. The bill was drafted in response to protests in Charlotte that paralyzed traffic last fall.

“I became concerned for drivers after watching the recent protests which turned into riots in Charlotte and other cities,” Republican Rep. Justin Burr, the bill’s sponsor, said to Fox News. “In a number of cases the protests turned riots resulted in violence and the terrorizing of unsuspecting motorist, their passengers and property.”

“I strongly believe North Carolina should protect law abiding drivers from facing civil liability if a protester is injured while attempting to illegally block traffic on a public highway or interstate.”

Best order some of those car cameras the Russian drivers are so fond of that give us great entertainment on Youtube. On the other side, best not step into traffic that's doing 50+ mph or join the pavement.

California State Assembly Votes to Make Communism Great Again...
Then they won't be fussing about Russian interference in the future, right?
[THECONSERVATIVETREEHOUSE] Being a communist would no longer be a fireable offense for Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, babus government employees under a bill passed by the state Assembly. Lawmakers narrowly approved the bill Monday. It would repeal part of a law enacted during the Red Scare of the 1940s and ’50s when fear that communists were trying to infiltrate and overthrow the U.S. government was rampant. The bill now goes to the Senate.

It would eliminate part of the law that allows public employees to be fired for being part of the Communist Party. Employees could still be fired for being members of organizations they know advocate for overthrowing the government. Some Assembly Republicans say communism is still a threat and that the Cold War-era law should not be changed.
