Is Ann Coulter Bailing On Trump?
"Don't go wobbly" - the great Margaret Thatcher.
[DailyCaller] Conservative author Ann Coulter was one of the most vocal supporters of Donald Trump during the presidential campaign.

She wrote "In Trump We Trust" and proclaimed that she worships him like the "people of North Korea worship their Dear Leader ‐ blind loyalty."

Coulter described herself as a single-issue voter during the election and was drawn to Trump due to his "Mexican rapist speech" and him calling for a border wall to be built.

In an interview Sunday with The Daily Caller, Coulter let it be known she still has hope in the Trump presidency, but is ready to jump ship.

#1  It amazes me how so many people just expect for everything Trump said he was going to do, was just going to happen as soon as he stepped foot into the office. Kinda hard to do when every pice of shit in Washington and on tv is fighting you with every breathe on every issue.x

Liberals Are An Inferno Of Flaming Crazy And We Should Pour Gasoline On The Fire
h/t Instapundit
Pity the Democrats, to the extent you can without bursting into hysterical laughter at their agony. America has thoroughly rejected them in every branch of the federal government plus out in the states, and on top of that they were utterly humiliated by the guy they all claimed was a complete moron. Which begs the question ‐ what does that make the sanctimonious harpy he crushed in the Electoral College?

They still haven’t realized what’s going on. Their ego-driven drive to dominate normal people and shape us into New Socialist Nongendered Beings has blinded them to the bitter reality.

We think they, along with their minions in the media, in Hollywood, and on campus, suck.

They are baffled at our refusal to acknowledge their moral, intellectual, and political superiority. It doesn’t just compute.

Yeah, well compute this, geebos.

You look nuts. I mean wacko, zonked out, "Hey, that goldfish is firing a mind control laser at my brain and making me break dance" nuts.

But don’t stop. No, pump it up. You’re at "11," and I say take it to "12."

This is great!

All this insanity is going to help us normals retain power, from your gyno-hat marches to the fake hate crimes to your insistence that the Russians are responsible for everything from Hillary losing the election to the rarely-discussed but well-known liberal epidemic of ED.

Here’s a little test. It’s been about six months since Trump treated The Smartest Most Accomplished Woman In The World like a NordicTrack treats Harry Reid, and does anyone know even one person who has said, "You know, I voted for Trump, but now after Neil Gorsuch, General Mattis and H.R. McMaster, I really wish I had checked the box for Felonia von Pantsuit?"

Argentina's Shale Hoping for Cash Windfall
The shale boom has thus far remained a uniquely American phenomenon (for a long list of reasons), but the issue of other countries replicating that success has always been a question of when, not if. Argentina’s Vaca Muerte formation contains the second-largest reserves of shale gas in the world behind China, and as the WSJ reports, those multitudes of hydrocarbons are attracting the keen interest (and capital) of oil and gas companies:

#2  Oil companies are understandably reluctant to inveest huge amounts of capital in places that buthave a history of nationalizing company assets. High prices and profit margins and production rates can overcome thar reluctance - make back the investment before nationalization - but none of those apply there, now, or to shale resources.

New Miss USA: Health care is a privilege, not a right
[Hot Air] I used to think the best sign that liberals had won this debate among the broader public was that Republican senators have begun conceding it. But now I don’t know. A pageant answer becoming headline news because it defied liberal orthodoxy seems like a solid sign too. Is it because Kara McCullough’s black and represents D.C. and therefore isn’t "supposed" to think this way that makes it news? Or is it the fact that she disagreed with the liberal position and was rewarded for it by winning the pageant? Impure thoughts mustn’t be incentivized.

The first query: "Do you think affordable health-care for all U.S. citizens is a right or a privilege and why?"
"I’m definitely going to say it’s a privilege," McCullough responded. "As a government employee, I am granted health-care. And I see firsthand that for one to have health-care, you need to have jobs. So therefore, we need to continue to cultivate this environment that we’re given the opportunities to have health-care as well as jobs to all the American citizens worldwide."
The jobs part of that answer may be more of an affront to Democrats than the "privilege" part. One of the selling points of ObamaCare in 2010 was that it would end "job lock" -- supposedly. Not until health insurance is decoupled from employment can people truly be free, etc etc. In practice, if you’re staring at a potential $12,000 deductible for an exchange plan, it might make financial sense to not only cling to your job but to take a pay cut in order to hang on to that sweet, sweet employer-provided insurance. But really, we’re in the post-ObamaCare phase of American health-care reform now, on both sides: Conservatives are scrambling to patch together something, anything, that replaces the status quo while liberals see an opportunity to shove the country towards single-payer. There’s plenty of support for it out there too, and not just on the left. If Americans don’t yet think health care is a right, it seems safe to conclude that most think it should be.

I was surprised that I couldn’t find a recent poll squarely on point, but this one taken by Pew in January is close. This is a proxy for the right/privilege question, I think.

More interesting info on Ms. McCullough at this link.

ICE Nabs Illegals Working Construction On Travis Air Force Base
[Daily Caller] Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have arrested illegal aliens working construction at the Travis Air Force Base and are looking to deport them as soon as possible.

ICE quickly arrived on the scene after a military official realized that two illegals, Hugo Mejia and Rodrigo Nuñez, did not have valid social security numbers and reported the pair of construction workers at the base, The Mercury News reports.

After arresting Mejia and Nuñez, ICE has placed the men in expedited deportation proceedings, as both men have removal orders stemming from when they entered the country illegally over a decade ago.

Mejia is naturally upset. He told The Mercury News in Spanish, while detained at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, that he has a good track record.

#1  "Good track record for 17 years?" Would that be with a fake Social Security Card, and paying no taxes ?

Base Commander should order the termination of the contract of the firm he works for and direct the Travis JAG to investigate the Contracting Officer Representative (COR). If he's (the worker) a DoD civilian employee, dig deeper and investigate the Civilian Personnel Office on Travis. Might want to consider relieving the base commander, if any of these action are not already taking place.

#7  And as an aside, the Contracting Officer Representative has the job of ensuring that the terms of the contract are met. The COR doesn't write the contract. Neither does the COR do the background checks or directly question the workers' qualifications. Or issue them base access.

It's more likely that the contractor sub-contracted the work. That's not illegal, unless the contract stipulated otherwise. But it will give the contractor a black eye. And likely the base as well.

#8  The Davis–Bacon Act of 1931 is a United States federal law that establishes the requirement for paying the local prevailing wages on public works projects for laborers and mechanics.

* prevailing wages = union wages in the location

The contractor had to bid labor costs estimates in accordance with the Act. Someone is pocketing the difference.

Schumer Supports Blocking Confirmation Of New FBI Director Until Special Prosecutor Is Appointed
[Daily Caller] Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer confirmed Sunday he would support his caucus in the upper chamber if they blocked the appointment of a new FBI director until a special prosecutor to the Russia investigation is named.

"I think there are a lot of Democrats who feel that way. We will have to discuss it as a caucus, but I would support that move, because who the FBI director is, is related to who the special prosecutor is," Schumer told CNN’s Jake Tapper on "State of the Union."

Schumer said, "Remember, the criteria for a special prosecutor, independent in making day-to-day decisions from the hierarchy in the Justice Department and the White House, can only be fired for cause, has to report to Congress, and, very importantly, can look into any attempts to thwart the investigation, are all really important criteria."

He added, "To have that special prosecutor, people would breathe a sigh of relief, because then there would be a real independent person overlooking the FBI director."

#1  No problem, just stick with the acting director. With the extra pay and perks, I'm sure he won't mind filling for the balance of Comey's term or until a Recess Appointment can be arranged. Who knows, he might be the man for the job, and it could lead to the eventual reduction of elimination of the 10 year tour of duty. If he screws up, fire him as well and promote the next guy to acting director.

Plan B: Nominate a qualified African American or female to fill the position and let Schumer stall that one.

There's nothing in your ball sack on this one Schumer. Have a nice day.

Chelsea Manning to remain on active duty, receive health care after prison release
[Detroit Free Press] WASHINGTON -- Pvt. Chelsea Manning, the transgender soldier and convicted national security secret leaker, will remain an active-duty, unpaid soldier, eligible for health care and other benefits, following her scheduled release May 17 from military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, according to the Army.

Manning entered prison as a man named Bradley. Manning changed her name, identified as a woman and received hormone treatment while incarcerated. Her sentence was commuted in the final days of the Obama administration, a move that infuriated some in the military and President Trump.

While Manning’s court-martial conviction remains under appeal, she will remain a private in the Army, said Dave Foster, an Army spokesman. As an active duty soldier, Manning will continue to receive health care and have access to commissaries and military exchanges, but she will not be paid.

"Pvt. Manning is statutorily entitled to medical care while on excess leave in an active duty status, pending final appellate review," Foster said.

Here's Why U.S. Special Forces Want Russian Machine Guns
Posted by: Skidmark || 05/15/2017 00:12 || Comments || Link || E-Mail|| [4 views] Top|| File under:

#1  What about patent protection?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 05/15/2017 5:37 Comments || Top||

#2  One wonders whether there could be a copyright issue with producing Russian weapons in America without a license, though Russian and Chinese spies haven’t been reticent about helping themselves to U.S. technology. Either way, it seems like a sensible and economical idea to produce foreign weapons in America, rather than having to procure them from unreliable or unsavory international arms merchants.

g(r)omgoru, Those machine guns been around so long that any patents would have expired. Note they mention 'copyright' in the article. Copyrights only apply to the original drawing and not to the actual mechanical device itself. Since the American manufacturer(s) will have to come up with their own drawings, foreign copyrights would not apply to them, although they can copyright their own drawings.

The original PK machine gun was introduced in 1961 with an improved version introduced in 1969. Picture of PKM at link.

The NSV was adopted by the Soviet Army in 1971. It is no longer being produced in Russia; the manufacturing license for the NSV ended up in Kazakhstan after the break-up of the Soviet Union. The NSV has been manufactured in Bulgaria, India, Poland and Yugoslavia under license. Picture of NSV at link

So it's been at least 46 years since the above guns were introduced. I'll say it's pretty much a safe bet we no longer have to worry about patent protections.

#5  1. Patents are country specific. Even if there were patents in Russia (or the USSR) they would not apply in the US. Only a patent issued in the US would be an issue.

2. Patents would have to be filed within 12 months of the first commercial availability of these weapons. After that you are statutorily barred from filing.

3. If any IP is an issue, it might be design copyright. This is "thin" protection, but an exact replica might run afoul.

IDF arrests alleged senior terror figure in overnight raid
[IsraelTimes] Wife of Ahmad Qatamesh denies he has PFLP connections, says he was likely detained for supporting prisoners’ hunger strike.

IDF troops placed in durance vile
Please don't kill me!
14 suspects in the West Bank during raids overnight Saturday, including a senior member of the terror group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, an army spokesperson said.

According to the Shin Bet security agency, Ahmad Qatamesh was arrested in the city of el-Bireh and taken in for interrogation on the basis of his alleged membership in the PFLP.

Qatamesh, who is also a writer, was previously held in an Israeli prison in the 1990s for over five years without trial over his ties to the PFLP. At the time of his release, he was the longest-serving Paleostinian prisoner to be held in so-called administrative detention.

He was also rearrested in 2011 and held again without charge for over two years.

Qatamesh’s wife, Suha Barghouti, told al-Jazeera on Sunday that she believes her husband was arrested due to his advocacy on behalf of Paleostinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli prisons.

"We don’t know yet what is happening or why, but I think because he is campaigning for the prisoners and is very active," she said, adding that he was warned by Israel "not to speak so publicly."

Barghouti also said that her husband was wrongly targeted as a result of the "image" Israel has of him.

"They still in their mind consider him a leader and hold him responsible for actions. He’s not a leader or a part of any political organization," she said.

"They have an image of Ahmad [and] he’s paying the bill for what they think he is," she added.

According to Paleostinian officials, 1,500 inmates have been refusing food since the strike began nearly a month ago to protest prison conditions. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
Israeli officials say only some 800 continue to refuse food and have dismissed the hunger strike as an attempt by its leader -- convicted Fatah terrorist Marwan Barghouti -- to show Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
that he still wields influence on the Paleostinian street.

Barghouti is a popular figure in Paleostinian society and is seen as a possible successor to Abbas.

Of the 14 suspects arrested overnight, 13 were detained for their involvement in "popular terror," a term used by the army to denote acts such as rock-throwing and rioting, the IDF said.

Two AK 47 rifles, 2 pistols, 4 AK magazines, 77 AK rounds, 2 pistol magazines, 7 pistol ammunition rounds, 2 UBGL grenades, 2 HHR, one matrix sheet C3 and C4 and C6 were recovered from the Fidayeen killed in Panzgam Army base, while one map, one feather jacket and some more articles including some cash were recovered from the encounter site.

The Commanding Officer 21 RR, Colonel Kuldeep Singh said that these two killed turbans were involved in suicide kaboom on Panzgam Army base last month. "We found yet to heal wound on the body of one of the eliminated holy warriors which is indicative of likelihood of his involvement in the Panzgam suicide attack. We have found some other evidence among war like stores confirming their involvement in Panzgam incident."

Giving details of the operation, the Commanding Officer said: "We got information about presence of two holy warriors in the forest area of Handwara. This information came to us this afternoon and we accordingly alongwith the Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmire Police Handwara planned an operation to track these terrorists. When we were searching the forest area we observed suspicious movement of two individuals and on being challenged they fired indiscriminately at our joint Army and SOG party. We retaliated and firing continued for 10-15 minutes during which we were able to neutralize both the terrorists. We recovered large quantity of war like stores which includes two AK rifles, two pistols", he said.

These turbans managed to escape from the Panzgam Army base on April 27 and one had received an injury and left his AK-47 rifle there. Three Army personnel including a senior officer and two turbans were killed when turbans of LeT stormed into an Army base in Panzgam village of North Kashmire’s Kupwara district on April 27.

Houthis declares state of emergency in Sanaa over cholera outbreak
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa declared a state of emergency on Sunday after an outbreak of cholera, which has killed dozens of people.

Yemen's health ministry called on humanitarian organizations and other aid donors to help it deal with the epidemic and avert an "unprecedented disaster".

The announcement comes just hours after earlier reports suggested Houthi militias were preventing cholera patients from receiving medical treatments at the Republican Hospital in Sanaa.

The Ministry of Health speaking on behalf of the illegitimate government run by Houthis and Saleh forces said on Sunday that the hospital would stop receiving any cases of cholera in order to treat murderous Moslems on the front lines first, sources confirmed.

A cholera outbreak in war-torn Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has killed 115 people and left 8,500 ill as hospitals struggle to cope with an influx of patients, the International Committee of the Red Thingy said Sunday.

"We now are facing a serious outbreak of cholera," said ICRC director of operations Dominik Stillhart at a news conference in the capital Sanaa.

Citing figures compiled by the Yemeni health ministry, Stillhart said 115 people had died of cholera between April 27 and Saturday.

More than 8,500 suspected cases of the waterborne disease were reported in the same period in 14 governorates across Yemen, Stillhart said, up from 2,300 cases in 10 governorates last week.

Shafaaq News website quoted a security source saying that Iraqi forces managed to free 80 families from the northern area of that neighborhood.

Mohsen told BasNews that the forces also took over the 30 Tamuz district and were in control over 60 percent of al-Refaie. He said troops were preparing to invade al-Najjar district and the Mosul Hotel.

BasNews quoted Ahmed al-Obaidi, a Federal Police Captain, said IS Death Eaters on Sunday rubbed out 16 Iraqi women who were trying to flee al-Rifaie, adding that 30 other families in the same district.

Abadi, Sadr near alliance as Maliki renounces majority governance
[Iraq News] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is nearing an "electoral alliance" with influential Shia religious and political leader Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
in a bid to isolate former PM and premiership hopeful Nouri al-Maliki, according to a newspaper.

London-based Al Hayat said the anticipated alliance could also draw Iraq’s Vice President Osama al-Nujaifi’s Muttahidon (United) bloc in addition to Kurdish political forces, most notably the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Kurdish President Masud Barzani.

The purpose of all those parties is to "keep Maliki away", according to Al Hayat.

It added that Sadr’s and Maliki’s movements had been caught up in an intense rivalry, which became most remarkable in Maliki’s push for a draft law restricting the right to stage protests in a bid to curb weekly pro-reform demonstrations Sadr’s fans had staged upon a call from their leader. It noted that the draft was slated for discussion in parliament on Sunday but was adjourned due to pressures from civil society groups.

The newspaper’s speculations regarding a possible alliance came hours after Maliki said in a statement by his office that he was renouncing his call for a Shia majority rule in Iraq. He accused parties, which he did not name, of plotting against the political process by seeking to put off elections.

Iraqi parliament elections are slated for early 2018, and there is a tendency to run municipal elections simultaneously. Shia groups occupy more than a half of the parliament’s 328 seats.

According to the statement, Maliki’s announcement came during a conference on "societal reconciliation" in the southern Iraqi province of Najaf. Explaining his concession, Maliki said "the country rejects sectarianism and racism".

Maliki’s opponents accuse him of stoking sectarian divisions and failure to curb corruption throughout his two-term, eight-year premiership, besides blaming him for losing Iraqi territories to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. Pak opens new fronts on LoC; targets more forward villages
[Daily Excelsior] Pakistain army today opened new fronts in Rajouri and Poonch sectors even as entire population from nine villages of Nowshera sector, located close to the Line of Control (LoC) shifted to safer areas including the migrant camps and houses of their relatives. While there was no shelling in Nowshera sector today, panic still prevailed among the villagers, who were putting up in forward areas.

Official sources told the Excelsior that almost entire population from nine villages, located close to the LoC and which bore brunt of Pak shelling yesterday as well as prior to that, were evacuated in buses and bunkers overnight and this morning while some of them reached the safer areas including the migrant camps on their own.

The villages, deserted by the people, included Khamba, Sarya, Bhawani, Kalsian, Anwas Bhandar, Manpur, Dhanaka, Khori and Ganiah, located close to the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, where three civilians have been killed and half a dozen others injured during past four days.

Official figures revealed that 1200 people have been lodged in three migrant camps at Government Higher Secondary School Boys, Nowshera, Government Middle School, Bawali and Government High School Nonial while around 400 people have left for the houses of their relatives in safer areas from the villages, hit by very heavy mortar shelling by Pakistain army yesterday.

Indian side had given effective retaliation to Pakistain. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
details of casualties and damages suffered by Pakistain couldn’t be ascertained immediately.

All Government schools falling within five kilometers radius of LoC have been closed in Nowshera and Manjakote sectors in view of Pakistain shelling. Some of the Government schools have been hit by 120mm and 82mm mortars fired by the Pakistain army in Nowshera and Manjakote sectors.

Sources said the authorities had to press a fleet of buses and bunkers to evacuate the civilians, who were trapped in the forward villages in view of heavy Pakistain shelling. The buses going on evacuation operation were also targeted at Nonial yesterday. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the evacuation operation was completed by this afternoon as there was no shelling since 7.45 pm yesterday. Apart from evacuation, some of the people reached the migrant camps on their own while others left for the houses of their relatives in safer areas.

Former al-Qaeda leader, close aide to IS’s Baghdadi, killed in Mosul airstrike
[Iraq News] A local official has unveiled that a former al-Qaeda leader and a close aide of Islamic State

was killed in an Arclight airstrike in western djinn-infested Mosul

on Sunday.

Alsumaria News quoted Udai al-Khadran, mayor of al-Khales, Diyala, saying he received confirmed information that the krazed killer, a former Iraqi army brigadier, died along with four companions.

Kahdran said the dear departed member was al-Qaeda’s "emir" in al-Khales between 2006 and 2007. He had fled to Hawija, Islamic State’s stronghold in Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
where he stayed in hiding using a fake ID before emerging to the scene again to become IS’s military commander for that region. He later became a senior commander in Mosul.

"The dear departed is the criminal mastermind for Islamic State’s defense strategies," Khadran stated, adding that he had been involved in the killing of "hundreds of innocent people in many provinces, including Diyala."
However, it seems he has no name, or the reporter would have mentioned it.

Conservative Treehouse: T Rex Talks
[Last Refuge] Good grief. NBC’s Chuck Toad spent two-thirds of his interview opportunity with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson asking repeated questions about the preferred Democrat narrative known as the ‘Muh Russian conspiracy’.

However, Tillerson did have the opportunity to push back against Senator John McCain’s ridiculous attacks against Secretary T-Rex. Anyone who watched the T-Rex talk to the State Department on May 3rd can fully understand the context of Tillerson’s outline of distinction between “U.S. policies” and “U.S. Values”. If you haven’t watched or read the speech you should, SEE HERE.

Senator John McCain was furious that Secretary Tillerson would not accept the McCain/Powers “Responsibility to Protect” doctrine which mandates U.S. foreign policy as interventionist around the globe. Senator McCain wrote an op-ed opposing Tillerson and demanding that U.S. policy must include creating more wars around the world.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Ruling Fatah party fares poorly in Palestinian elections
[Ynet] President Mahmoud Abbas's ruling Fatah Party posts a poor showing in Paleostinian municipal elections across the West Bank, reflecting public discontent, even though the rival Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, movement stayed out of the race.

President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
's ruling Fatah Party posted a poor showing in Paleostinian municipal elections across the West Bank, even though the rival Islamic Hamas movement stayed out of the race, according to results announced Sunday.

The vote reflected public discontent with Abbas and his Fatah movement, whose popularity has sunk due to a weak economy, nepotism in its ranks and its failure to lead the Paleostinians closer to independence.

Saturday's vote gave Paleostinians a rare chance to cast ballots after over a decade without presidential or legislative elections. Abbas' embattled party ran virtually unopposed, and Saturday's election was seen as a litmus test of Fatah's popularity.

But the results indicated lackluster support for the party, which has dominated Paleostinian politics for half a century. In an indication of public sentiment, just 53 percent of eligible voters cast ballots. Voter turnout in the previous municipal elections, in 2012, was comparable, elections commission director Hisham Khalil said.

In Hebron, the West Bank's largest city and a Hamas stronghold, Fatah won just seven of 15 seats.

"The result wasn't great for us," said Tayseer Abu Sneineh, the head of Fatah's list in the city.

In Nablus, another major city, Fatah won 11 of 15 seats, but only after forming an alliance with Islamist candidates. Turnout in Nablus was just 21 percent.

Fatah only won clear victories in two major cities, Jenin and Jericho. In several cities, Fatah couldn't piece together enough candidates to field a campaign list, leaving local Fatah politicians to run as independents.

Roughly 2.2 million Paleostinians live in the West Bank, of whom just over 787,000 were eligible to vote. East Jerusalem's 300,000 residents didn't take part in the elections.

The Paleostinians have been divided between rival governments since Hamas defeated Fatah in the 2006 legislative elections and drove the latter out of the Gazoo Strip the following year, leaving Abbas in control only of the Paleostinian Authority autonomy government in parts of the West Bank. Repeated attempts to reconcile have failed.

Fatah and Hamas were supposed to compete in elections last year in both the West Bank and Gazoo. But with the rival factions disqualifying each other's candidates, Fatah went forward with the elections in the West Bank alone in a bid to renew its legitimacy.

The Paleostinian president is currently more than a decade into what was supposed to be a four-year term.

Hanna Nasser, head of the Central Elections Commission, said the organization plans to approach Hamas about the possibility of holding municipal elections in the Gazoo Strip.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Mayor of Charlottesville, VA calls Pro-Confederate rallies 'horrific'
[ABC] A group of white nationalists carried torches Saturday night in Charlottesville, Virginia while protesting the planned removal of Confederate statues in the city -- an incident that has provoked anger and frustration from politicians and activists.

The torch wielders -- reported to be several dozen by local paper Daily Progress -- were reacting to a November 28 city council vote to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee at Charlottesville’s Lee Park, the public space where the protest took place Saturday.
As reported by the Daily Progress? Blunt irony that.
A court injunction has halted the removal of the statue for six months, but that didn't stop the protesters, led by avowed white nationalist Richard Spencer, from reportedly chanting slogans like "we will not be replaced," "Russia is our friend" and "blood and soil " at the site of the statue.

Mike Signer, the mayor of Charlottesville, expressed his disgust with Saturday's protest in an interview with ABC News.

"I think it's horrific," he said of the protests. "We're a city that proudly values our diversity."
We 'value our diversity' with the obvious exception of historical parks, statuary and torch light protests.
Signer noted that the demonstration coincided with the park’s Festival of Cultures, event, which was created to celebrate the "cultural and linguistic diversity" of the local community. It isn’t clear whether or not the timing was deliberate, he said.

#5  This is a picture that some people do not realize represents pockets of people who are still Dixie.

A few years ago I was in Monroe and West Monroe, Louisiana on business. I stayed at a hotel in Monroe, and to get to restaurants I walked a few blocks from Monroe to West Monroe, by crossing the Ouachita River. This happened to be the time of year for Mardi Gras so I went across the bridge into Monroe to watch what I thought would be a Mardi Gras parade. Before crossing the bridge a young black guy on the Monroe side tried to sell crack to me.

The parade was in progress when I got on the other side of the bridge and what I saw was truly amazing.

Confederates. Men in full uniform, carrying muskets and in some cases actual rifles. The flag of Dixie was every where. And they were all Democrats. Dixie Democrats.

17 Dead From Hunger near Mogadishu amid drought
[SHABELLENEWS] At least 17 people, mostly women and young children have died from hunger and lack of water at sprawling IDP camps near Somalia’s capital Mogadishu in the past few days.

An IDP camp administrator confirmed to Radio Shabelle, the deaths of the people, who were among thousands of locally displaced persons fled the drought-stricken regions in southern Somalia.

Thousands have been streaming into Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, in search of food aid, to escape from dying of hunger and thirsty due to the biting drought in the horn of Africa country.

The deaths of the IDPs came as the Somali National Drought Committee officials said they collected large sum of money as donation that was allocated to assist the drought-affected people.

The Somali National Drought Committee has been accused of misuse of the financial donations as people are dying of hunger and lack of water.

Egyptian MP proposes punishing parents with more than three children
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egyptian member of parliament Ghada Ajami announced she is preparing to propose a draft law to punish those who conceive more than three children.

She confirmed to Al Arabiya that the draft law would be submitted to parliament within days and which stipulates "punishing those who have more than three children from enjoying government treatment and public services".

"That will include free education in government schools or obtaining subsidized goods from the government," she added.

She added that Egypt's drastic increase in population is consuming most of the development revenues.

"Egypt sees a population reaching 100 million people despite the decline in the rate of economic growth, which leads to increased burdens on the state and lack of services and take all the resources of the country," Ajami told Al Arabiya.

#4  More than 3 kids is self punishment.

It depends on the parents, and on the children. My mother thoroughly enjoyed deliberately having four in four years, and we enjoyed one another.

Egypt's birth rate had fallen to slightly above 3, then rose with the fortunes of the Muslim Brotherhood , per the CIA World Factbook. This ordinance would punish the Islamists, primarily the Muslim Brotherhood:

Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world and the third most populous country in Africa, behind Nigeria and Ethiopia. Most of the country is desert, so about 95% of the population is concentrated in a narrow strip of fertile land along the Nile River, which represents only about 5% of Egypt’s land area. Egypt’s rapid population growth – 46% between 1994 and 2014 – stresses limited natural resources, jobs, housing, sanitation, education, and health care.

Although the country’s total fertility rate (TFR) fell from roughly 5.5 children per woman in 1980 to just over 3 in the late 1990s, largely as a result of state-sponsored family planning programs, the population growth rate dropped more modestly because of decreased mortality rates and longer life expectancies. During the last decade, Egypt’s TFR decline stalled for several years and then reversed, reaching 3.6 in 2011, and has plateaued the last few years. Contraceptive use has held steady at about 60%, while preferences for larger families and early marriage may have strengthened in the wake of the recent 2011 revolution. The large cohort of women of or nearing childbearing age will sustain high population growth for the foreseeable future (an effect called population momentum).

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Huge explosion rocks rebel base in northern Syria
[ALMASDARNEWS] A massive blast hit, this morning, a base for rebels near the northern city of Azaz, leaving scores dead and injured.

According to rebel sources, the kaboom was caused by an unidentified surface-to-surface missile, and targeted an ammunition depot for the rebel group known as Liwa al-Fateh.

The sources reported that scores of turbans have been killed and maimed in the kaboom.

Azaz has been frequently targeted with waves of suicide kabooms by the Islamic State

#1  What kind of rebels?

My first thought was Turks shooting at Kurds, but these could be Russian/Syrian targets or US targets.

I don't know that ISIS has ground to ground missles.

#3  Generally speaking, altohough that may not apply in the Middle East, ammo dumps are protected by...stuff. Concrete. Sandbags. Big holes with overhead cover.
IOW, it's not a target for an area weapon. It has to be very accurate and that means you need to know the position to the nearest, say, ten meters.
Additionally, military explosives or propellantes are designed not to go off willy nilly. So you have to put a high explosive--detonator prefearbly--on it. Or a gib ol' bomb close by.

#5  A quick google of "Liwa al-Fateh" suggests that it first became Liwa al Tawhid and then Jabhat al Shamiya, which is one of the US-supported power brokers in Aleppo among the 50+ rebel groups operating there, according to an Institute for the Study of War backgrounder dated February, 2016. Perhaps someone with a mind better suited to such complexities could do further research, as I do not stand behind any of this beyond averring that I found it on the internet.

Al Jabhat al Shamiya (U.S. Supported)

Al Jabhat al Shamiya is the newest incarnation of one of Aleppo’s oldest Free Syrian Army A liates, Liwa al Tawhid.27 Al Jabhat al Shamiya likely maintains the Liwa al Tawhid’s connections to the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, although the formation of Al Jabhat al Shamiya reportedly followed months of negotiations between Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, which may have included a new funding agreement for the group.28 The group’s in uence appears to be growing in 2016. The group publically declared its merger with prominent U.S.-backed, TOW anti-tank missile recipient Thuwar al Sham Brigades on January 27, 2016.29 The merger appears to have transferred the TOW missiles, as Al Jabhat al Shamiya demonstrated its rst use of the weapon on January 26, 2016.30 Al Jabhat al Shamiya controls the Babal Salameh border crossing with Turkey north of Aleppo City, which feeds the GLOC pro-regime forces severed on February 4, 2016.31 The group is therefore now likely split between the Northern Aleppo countryside, where it retains access to the border, and the city, where it is at risk of siege.

Al Jabhat al Shamiya is a major anti-ISIS opposition group, and increased its anti-ISIS messaging in late 2015. It released a mock execution video styled after ISIS propaganda on December 9, 2015, in which ghters staged an execution of ISIS ghters and walked away from the detainees, asserting “Muslims are not criminals” and demanding that ISIS repent for its violent actions.32

Al Jabhat al Shamiya is also a major political and religious actor in the province. The group maintains specialized units for activities behind the front line, including a Security Commission, which is responsible for internal security measures on behalf of the Shari’a Court of Aleppo and its Countryside. Its activities include policing, managing checkpoints,33 and conducting arrests and executions.34 The Security Commission also claims to provide services such as maintaining electricity and water infrastructure in Aleppo, although this appears to function at a more localized level;35 Jabhat al Nusra maintains control over the main water and power plants in Aleppo city.36 Al Jabhat al Shamiya also manages several “monitoring centers” in Aleppo Province to assist other opposition factions with surveillance and command and control.37

Iran’s ex-President Khatami endorses Rouhani for re-election
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran’s ex-president Mohammad Khatami on Sunday endorsed President Hassan Rouhani in a video message, calling on voters to give him another term in this week’s election.

"Mr Rouhani’s government has been a successful one, despite all the limitations, problems and the great expectations," he said in the video posted on social media.

"We should all go and vote for Rouhani, for freedom in thought, logic in dialogue, law in action, securing the rights of citizens and enforcing social and economic justice."

Khatami praised the government for taming rampant inflation of above 40 percent in 2013 to below 9.5 percent and the "steps" taken against stagnation.
