Judge tosses ‘Clock Boy' discrimination suit against school
A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the father of a Muslim boy who was arrested after taking a homemade clock to his high school in Texas.

Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed sued the city of Irving, the Irving Independent School District and the principal of MacArthur High School on behalf of his son Ahmed Mohamed, whose arrest and three-day suspension for taking a clock ‐ mistaken by a teacher for a bomb ‐ to school on Sept. 14, 2015, attracted national headlines.

Charges later were dropped, but Mohamed filed a lawsuit claiming his son's civil rights were violated by discrimination on the basis of his race and religion. The suit, which sought unspecified damages and attorney fees, also claimed city officials violated the then-14-year-old boy's rights under the Fourth and Fifth amendments during his interrogation and arrest.

Somehow should ask him to build a second one. Under observation and without his father 'helping'.

China claims breakthrough in mining 'flammable ice'
H/T iNSTAPUNDIT
China has for the first time extracted gas from an ice-like substance under the South China Sea considered key to future global energy supply.
Chinese authorities have described the success as a major breakthrough.
Methane hydrates, also called "flammable ice", hold vast reserves of natural gas.
Many countries including the US and Japan are working on how to tap those reserves, but mining and extracting are extremely difficult.
What is 'flammable ice'?
The catchy phrase describes a frozen mixture of water and gas.
"It looks like ice crystals but if you zoom in to a molecular level, you see that the methane molecules are caged in by the water molecules," Associate Professor Praveen Linga from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore told the BBC.
Officially known as methane clathrates or hydrates, they are formed at very low temperatures and under high pressure. They can be found in sediments under the ocean floor as well as underneath permafrost on land.
Despite the low temperature, these hydrates are flammable. If you hold a lighter to them, the gas encapsulated in the ice will catch fire. Hence, they are also known as "fire ice" or "flammable ice".
By lowering the pressure or raising the temperature, the hydrates break down into water and methane - a lot of methane. One cubic metre of the compound releases about 160 cubic metres of gas, making it a highly energy-intensive fuel.
The noose is closing on oil ticks.

A shrewd blow against trump's HB1 initiative
h/t Instapundit
Millions of K-12 students across the country believe that mathematics is a sadistic discipline--(I should know, I was one of them)--but a new "social justice" training module aims to persuade teachers that maybe the kids are on to something.

The course was designed by Teach for America and is offered through EdX, according to Campus Reform. It presupposes that math could be made more interesting for students if it was infused with socially relevant themes. That's not a terrible assumption--maybe young people would like math better if it was being taught in a language they understood. (If Olivia eats 10 pieces of avocado toast every day, how long will it be until she can afford to move out of her parent's house? That sort of thing.)

But Teach for America thinks that language is "social justice," and has designed a course that makes some startling claims about math.

"In western mathematics, our ways of knowing include formalized reasoning or proof, decontextualization, and algorithmic thinking, leaving little room for those having non-western mathematical skills and thinking processes," the training course claims.

It continues:

"Mathematical ethics recognizes that, for centuries, mathematics has been used as a dehumanizing tool... mathematics formulae also differentiate between the classifications of a war or a genocide and have been used to trick indigenous peoples out of land and property."

Without these concepts any form of 'non-Western' mathematics is a compilation of intuited truths, half-truths and much superstition.

The Nightmares and the Realities of Never Trump
h/t Instapundit
Rarely in the last half-century have so many elite conservatives and intellectuals been so estranged both from a Republican administration and from those who voted for it--neither have they become so animated in their antipathy and disgust for a sitting president.

During the 2016 election, and the current Trump presidency, there have appeared four implicit tenets to the conservative "Never Trump" position that, we are supposed to understand, justified not voting for him, actively opposing him, or voting for Hillary Clinton:

...So far all the political violence associated with the election of Trump, from Inauguration to the latest campus rioting, has been on the Left.

...The crudity in contemporary politics--from the constant sick jokes referring to First Family incest, smears against the First Lady, low attacks on the Trump children, boycotts of the Inauguration, talk and dreams of killing the president--is on the liberal/progressive side.

...Trump was not so much a reflection of red-state Americans’ political ignorance, as their weariness with those of both parties who ridicule, ignore, or patronize them--and now seek to overturn the verdict of the election.
Because people without college degrees in Crit. Lit. are too stupid to vote?

#2  Rarely in the last half-century have so many elite conservatives and intellectuals been so estranged both from a Republican administration and from those who voted for it.

That is because their "conservatism" was a gig, not a cause.

And because Trump's success was an embarrassing contrast to their pathetic failures.

The question I would ask all the Con Elite is:

"What exactly is it that you have conserved?(Your place at the trough doesn't count)"

This Is A Coup Against Our Right To Govern Ourselves
h/t Instapundit
The blizzard of lies and distraction blowing through Washington is not just any routine stuffstorm, but a calculated attempt to bring down a president ‐ our president, not the establishment’s president. And more than that, it’s an attempt to ensure that we never again have the ability to disrupt the bipartisan D.C. cabal’s permanent supremacy by inserting a chief executive who refuses to kiss their collective Reid.

This is a coup against us. It’s a coordinated campaign by liberals and their allies in the bureaucracy and media to once and for all ensure their perpetual rule over us. We need to fight it, here and now, so we don’t have to fight it down at the bottom of this slippery slope.

It’s brazen. It’s bold. It’s insulting to our intelligence. They aren’t even trying to hide their lies anymore. Truth is irrelevant; this is a choreographed dance routine and everyone has his moves. Call it Breakin’ 2: Electric Leakaroo, except instead of trying to save the community center they’re trying to save their power and prestige.
When Trump was elected, I hoped the necessary revolution against 'the New Class' or 'American Mandarinate' can be accomplished without bloodshed. Hoped - not believed.

He might *build* the wall (and not just promise too), He might even try to keep Americans safe (instead if inviting every terrorist and murder he can find like Obama and Company did). He might arrest and put in Prison the neighborhood Thugs and Murders which Obama and company have been sheltering.
And that is why they loath him and all that he stands for - but Democrats and far too many Republicans.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S.-Led Coalition Strikes Pro-Regime Convoy in Syria
[AnNahar] U.S.-led coalition aircraft Thursday struck a pro-regime convoy apparently transporting Shia bandidos gunnies in Syria as it headed toward a remote coalition garrison near the Jordanian border, U.S. defense officials said.

While officials stressed the defensive strike did not signal deepening U.S. involvement in Syria's civil war, it nonetheless raises questions about the ongoing feasibility for the coalition to maintain its singular focus on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

In a statement, the coalition said the strike had occurred "well inside" an established de-confliction zone northwest of the At-Tanf garrison, where British and U.S. commandos have been training and advising local forces fighting IS.

"A convoy going down the road didn't respond to numerous ways for it to be warned off from getting too close to coalition forces in At-Tanf," a U.S. defense official told AFP on condition of anonymity. "Then there was finally a strike against the lead portion of that movement."

A second defense official told AFP the forces in the convoy appeared to have been Shia militia.

Attempts to stop the convoy included a call to the Russians -- who are working with the Syrian regime -- then a "show of force" in the skies above the vehicles, followed by warning shots.

The first official said the convoy was "significant" in size, but only the lead vehicles were hit.

Coalition officials said Russian forces had apparently unsuccessfully tried to dissuade the pro-regime movement south.

Describing the hours-long event as an "escalation-of-force situation," the official said it did not signal a strategic shift for the coalition, which remains focused on fighting IS group.

Yehya al-Aridi, a front man for the Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee in Geneva, praised the strike.

"We welcome robust action against the foreign forces who have turned Syria into a killing field," he said. "Iran and its militias have kept (President Bashar-al) Assad in power. They cannot be allowed to wage war on our soil with impunity."

America has been militarily involved in Syria since 2014 but has for the most part avoided engaging directly in the country's civil war.

The biggest exception to this was a U.S. cruise missile attack on a Syrian airbase last month in response to a suspected chemical attack by the regime.

At-Tanf has been the target of repeated attacks in recent months.

Last month, U.S.-led allied forces and Syrian rebels thwarted a significant IS attack on the base.

And in June last year, Russian warplanes bombed the outpost, reportedly just one day after British special forces had pulled out.

Egypt seizes funds of 28 Brotherhood leaders, 12 firms owned by group members
[AlAhram] The governmental committee tasked with appraising and seizing the funds of members of the banned Moslem Brüderbund group seized on Thursday the funds of 28 Brotherhood leaders, as well as 12 companies affiliated with the group.

In a Thursday statement, the committee, which was formed in 2014 and is headed by Mohammed Yasser Abo El-Fotoh, said that it confiscated the funds 11 members of the family of leading Brotherhood figure and businessman Hassan Malek, including the funds of his five children.

In November 2016, the committee said it had seized the assets of more than 1,370 people as well as 1,125 companies and NGOs since March 2014, with a total of at least $34 million in seized Brotherhood assets.

The Moslem Brüderbund was designated a terrorist organization by the Egyptian government in November 2013.

Malek has been in jail since October 2015 pending investigation into charges of harming the country's economy and financing the banned Brotherhood. His assets were seized by the committee in September 2014.

Earlier this month, a Cairo Criminal Court ordered Malek's release on an EGP 20,000 pending trial. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
after prosecurtors appealed the release order, a judge renewed his detention for 45 days.

The 12 firms seized by the committee today mainly operate in real estate investments, contracting, transportation and import and export, according to the committee’s statement.

The committee added that it has informed both the administrative and general prosecutions of financial and administrative violations in nine schools also seized by the committee.

Post poll: President's popularity plummeting among Israeli Jews
The percentage of Jewish Israelis who consider US President Donald Trump more pro-Israel than pro-Palestinian has taken a nosedive since his inauguration, according to a Smith Research poll published on Thursday and taken for The Jerusalem Post.

The poll of 500 Israelis representing a statistical sample of the adult Jewish population found that, just days ahead of Trump’s arrival in the country, he will need to take steps to persuade Israelis that he is on their side.

Only 56% of Jewish Israelis said they considered the Trump administration more pro-Israel than pro-Palestinian, down from 79% on January 11.

The Æthiopian Federal High Court accused them of planning to carry out terror attacks inside the East African country.

"The state-affiliated Fana Broadcasting Corporate quoted the court ruling as saying three of those sentenced had been planning to establish an Islamic state," the Voice of America (VOA) has reported.

According to court officials, the defendants were involved in clandestine activities in six Æthiopian cities, including the capital Addis Ababa, between 2010 and 2014.

The charge sheet said the defendants recruited individuals and sent them to neighbouring Somalia for training. Al-Shabaab, which has links to Al Qaeda, is based in Somalia

ICJ orders Pakistan to stay Jadhav execution
[Al Jazeera] The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Pakistain to stay the execution of an Indian national convicted of spying.

India approached the top UN court after Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav, a retired Indian naval officer, was sentenced to death by a Pak military court last month on charges of espionage and sabotage.

"Pakistain shall take all measures at its disposal to ensure that Mr Jadhav is not executed pending the final decision in these proceedings," the ICJ ruled in a unanimous and binding decision on Thursday.

Ronny Abraham, the Hague-based court's president, also asked Pakistain to inform the tribunal that it will implement the ruling, and stressed that ICJ decisions are binding on all state members.

The ICJ's rulings are final and binding. Yet, the court has no means to enforce its decisions and they have occasionally been ignored.

The hearings and, final decision, could take more many months, if not years.

Pakistain's government accepted the decision of the court, saying that the orders do not affect the current status of Jadhav's case as his execution was not imminent, given pending appeals.

Indonesia: 2 More MIT Militants Slain
[BENARNEWS.ORG] Two men killed in a firefight with security forces in Sulawesi have been identified as members of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) bully boy group, local officials said Tuesday.

The gunbattle took place a day earlier when soldiers on a routine patrol encounted gunnies in a mountainous area of Poso regency so remote that civilians can reach it only after a four-day walk from the nearest village, officials said.

Two were rubbed out while the other men escaped, said Arif Darmawan, head of the Central Sulawesi Police Mobile Brigade Unit. One soldier was maimed, he said.

Central Sulawesi police chief Rudy Sufahriadi on Tuesday identified the two dead men as MIT members Barok, 38, and Askar, 30, of Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

They were identified by MIT members who were captured in recent months, police said, and their bodies were taken to Bhayangkara Hospital in Palu, where DNA samples would be taken in hopes of locating their relatives.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, who was in Palu on Tuesday to open a congress of the Indonesian Islamic Students Movement, instructed security forces to find the members of the banned outfit still on the lam.

Hundreds of security personnel have been on the ground in Poso regency since January 2015 in two joint army-police operations code-named Camar Maleo and Tinombala.

"(The president) expressed appreciation for the personnel of Tinombala Task Force and communicated that we should focus on finding the remaining (suspects)," Rudy told news hounds in the lovely provincial capital.

More than a dozen MIT members, including its leader, Santoso, were killed as a result of the operations in 2016, officials said. Santoso swore allegiance to the Islamic State

CNN mistakenly spots ‘Russian minarets’ on new Time cover
Layers of editors and fact checkers.
[RT] The famous Russian architectural features enveloping the White House on the latest cover of Time magazine seem to have stumped CNN, which referred to the onion domes as "Russian minarets."

The cover of the new issue of Time features the White House covered in a structure which appears to be a combination of two Moscow landmarks ‐ the Kremlin Walls and the onion domes of St. Basil's Cathedral.

The architectural depiction of the "Trump Russia ties" narrative had CNN stumped, which called the onion domes "Russian minarets" in an editorial. While onion domes are a predominant form of Russian Orthodox church domes, minarets are distinctive tower-like features usually found adjacent to mosques.

CNN quickly realized the mistake and changed the headline "to more accurately describe Russian architecture," according to a clarification in the article.

White House overtaken by Russian minarets on new Time cover
Time magazine published an eye-catching cover Thursday aimed at the Trump presidency -- this time depicting the White House being overtaken by Russian minarets.

Despite promptly changing the wording, the ’Russian minarets’ caused a wave of online mockery.

Somalia's al Shabaab cuts off hands of two men convicted by sharia court
[REUTERS] Somalia's al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
publicly cut off the right hands of two men on Thursday after a sharia court convicted them of breaking into a shop and stealing about $500, the al Qaeda-linked group said.

The two men had confessed to the theft in Tiyeglow district of the southern Bakool region and were ordered to refund the money, Moalim Gedow, al-Shabaab’s Bakool governor told Rooters.

An al-Shabaab ambulance then took the men to hospital, Abdullahi Madey, a Tiyeglow resident told Rooters.

Al-Shabaab, which has been fighting for years to topple the central government and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law, carries out executions, floggings and amputations after summary trials in cases ranging from espionage to theft.

group attacked several government-held villages in central Syria on Thursday, capturing at least one of them in violence that left 52 people dead including more than two dozen women and kiddies, some of whom had their heads chopped off, as well as Syrian troops, state media, medical officials and an opposition monitoring group said.

The attack in the central Hama province targeted villages where most residents belong to the Ismaili branch of Shiite Islam, raising fears the Death Eaters might massacre them, as they have in other minority communities in Syria and Iraq.

The villages are located near the town of Salamiyeh and the highway that links the capital, Damascus, to the northern city of Aleppo, but state media said traffic was not affected.

The attacks come as government forces are on the offensive against the Death Eaters in other parts of Syria, mostly in the northern province of Aleppo and the central Homs region and to the east. U.S.-backed and Kurdish-led forces are meanwhile marching toward the holy warriors' de-facto capital of Raqqa, in northern Syria.

Senate Democrats reject Lieberman for FBI director

Some Senate Democrats hold a grudge against Lieberman for his rightward turn and opposition to some of President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
's agenda late in his Senate career. Others say even though they respect Lieberman, the FBI director should not be a former politician. And all Democratic senators interviewed for this story said the former Connecticut senator lacks the kind of experience needed for the post.

The 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate, who later caucused with the party as an independent in the Senate after losing his 2006 Senate primary, has emerged as a front-runner to replace fired FBI Director James Comey. But Lieberman's nomination would likely produce the most partisan vote for an FBI chief in Senate history. Typically, nominees for the job have been approved unanimously or with token opposition.
Rep. Trey Gowdy took his name off the list on Monday. I'm happy about both -- the FBI needs an experienced manager to overcome the bad habits of the last eight years.

#8  The Democrats reject Lieberman because he is a Democrat. Their line, that their people strongly believe, is that Trump is out to destroy our Constitution and create a right wing police state. This would presumably have to be done through the FBI. Appointing a Democrat to head the FBI makes that claim almost impossible to believe.
Naturally, the Democrats have to oppose it. Such an appointment makes their antics seem malevolent or absurd to all but imbeciles.

Hamas winds up trial of military leader's alleged killers
[NEWS24] A military court in Gazoo on Thursday concluded the trial of three men accused of assassinating a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", military leader and will deliver its verdict at the weekend, an official said.

The trial of the alleged killers of Mazen Faqha opened on Monday and the court held its fourth and final session on Thursday.

The chief suspect, Ashraf Abu Leila, 38, and two accomplices are charged with shooting dead Faqha, a senior Hamas official, next to his home on March 24.

"The verdict will be delivered on Sunday," Hamas-run interior ministry spokesperson Iyad al-Bozum said. "It will be final and under Paleostinian law the accused have no right of appeal."

"The sentence will be the death penalty and execution will be carried out as quickly as possible," said a source close to the military court system.

Hamas has accused the men of colluding with Israel to set up and commit the murder.

Hanging
In the wake of the killing it launched a large-scale campaign against all "collaborators" in which it said it made 45 arrests.

Hamas hanged three men on April 6, convicted by the military court of past acts of "treason and collaborating" unconnected to Faqha's slaying.

The liquidation in the middle of the Hamas-run Gazoo Strip shocked the Islamist movement.

Hamas immediately blamed its arch-enemy Israel, with which it has fought three wars since 2008, and implemented strict border restrictions on those seeking to leave the Paleostinian enclave.

Abu Leila was enjugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
about two weeks after the liquidation and his detention was publicly announced by Hamas's leader Ismail Haniya last Thursday.

Faqha had been in charge of forming cells for Hamas's military wing in the occupied West Bank.

He had spent years in an Israeli jail before being released as part of a 2011 prisoner exchange deal.

Libya asks Italy to arm migrant patrol boats
[NEWS24] Libya on Thursday asked Italia to arm the patrol boats it uses in the fight against illegal immigration across the Mediterranean from North Africa to Europe.

Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti this week handed over to the Libyan coastguard four patrol boats repaired in Italia as part of a cooperation deal against people traffickers.

Another six patrol boats are to follow soon after the training of their Libyan crews, he said.

"These boats are not fitted with arms. We can't used them for patrols when the traffickers are increasingly armed," Abdullah Tomia, a senior naval officer in charge of cooperation with Italia, told a news conference in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
"We've asked Italia to arm the patrol boats," he said, while noting that Libya was still under a UN arms embargo in force since its 2011 revolution that toppled dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
"Before the revolution, we were dealing with unarmed traffickers. But no we are up against fierce, armed gangs," Tomia said.

Libyan authorities have complained about lacking the means to deal with the floods of migrants colonists who try crossing the Mediterranean in makeshift boats.

Last year, a record 181 000 migrants colonists reached Italia, 90% of them from Libya.

2,300 migrants rescued off Libya: Italian coastguard

[AlAhram] Some 2,300 migrants colonists headed for Italia in 22 barely seaworthy vessels were rescued off the Libyan coast on Thursday, the Italian coastguard said.

Coastguard and military vessels joined forces with others chartered by humanitarian organizations to come to the rescue of the migrants colonists, who were packed into 10 wooden boats and 12 rubber dinghies.

"About 2,300 migrants colonists were rescued in the Mediterranean today," the coastguard said in a statement.

Prudence, a vessel chartered by medical charity Medecins sans Frontieres, picked up 770 people, many of them young children -- one a baby aged just six weeks, it said.

SOS Mediterranee's and MSF's Aquarius vessel rescued 560 people and Phoenix, chartered by Maltese NGO Moas, hauled in another 360.

Some 46,000 migrants colonists had reached the Italian coast this year even before Thursday's drama, around a third up on the same period last year, according to the Italian interior ministry.

At least 1,229 people have drowned making the perilous trip, according to the International Organization for Migration -- one death for every 39 persons rescued.

The latest wave of people picked up comes as Italia beefs up security ahead of next week's G7 summit at Taormina in Sicily.

The summit poses a challenge given that local authorities on the island have banned migrants colonists from disembarking at Sicilian ports.

Southern mainland ports or and those in the of Sardinia will instead take the strain.

What does the Haftar-Serraj meeting mean for Libya?
[Al Jazeera] On May 3, Libya's two rival leaders, Fayez Serraj, the head of the UN- backed Government of National Accord in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and strongman General Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, whose Libyan National Army (LNA) keeps a tight grip on the East of the country, held a surprise meeting in the United Arab Emirates.

The encounter spurred fears among Serraj's supporters that the conditions discussed in the Gulf country, a powerful sponsor of General Haftar, may disrupt a UN-brokered peace plan, known as the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA), rather than help it.

The UN deal was signed in 2015 but is widely considered as insufficient to reconcile internal rivalries.

UAE officials hailed the meeting as a major breakthrough after 18 months of stalemate between Tripoli and Tobruk. But analysts have been left wondering if a real discussion between the two reluctant leaders took place at all and why the talks didn't produce any official documents.

Rumours have been swirling around about the results of the meeting and how binding they would be.

According to diplomatic sources, the talks focused on reducing the Presidential Council from nine to three members, to include the head of the Armed Forces, Khalifa Haftar, the head of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh, and the head of the unity government, Fayez Serraj.

The controversial Article 8 of the Shikrat agreement submitting the army to civil authority would be abolished. Serraj and Haftar also allegedly agreed to work on presidential and parliamentary elections in the Spring of 2018.

ISIS in a statement said the attack was carried out by a group of jacket wallahs belonging to the group.

The attack was launched around 10:30 am local time after a group of at least four suicide bombers stormed the compound of the radio and television station in Jalalabad city, the lovely provincial capital of Nangarhar province.

Provincial governor Gulab Mangal told news hounds that the attack ended after all four suicide bombers were rubbed out by the security forces.

He said festivities between the security forces and the murderous Moslems continued for almost three hours before they were eliminated.

Mangal further added that four people, all workers of the television, were killed during the attack and at least 24 others were maimed.

According to Mangal, seven security personnel and 17 civilians were among those maimed during the festivities.

He said the forces of Evil launched the attack by initially carrying out a suicide kaboom and allowing the remaining murderous Moslems to enter the compound.

Paramilitary troops cut off IS main supply route in west of Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The paramilitary troops have cut off the main supply route of the Islamic State in west of Mosul, according to the media service.

Iraq
Western Mosul Reconquest
Events of Thursday, May 18:
Police: 291 km under control in western Mosul, militants set sewers on fire

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Federal Police forces have become in control over 291 square kilometers of western Mosul as operations running since February reach the Islamic State’s last havens.

Federal Police chief Shaker Jawdat said Thursday that his forces had also evacuated 270.000 civilians since operations launched in February 19th to retake western Mosul.

“The group (Islamic State) resorted to submerging sewage networks at the south of 17 Tamuz with petroleum and setting it on fire in order to prevent our drones from tracking its defeated members towards the Old City,” Jawdat stated.

Iraqi troops invade western Mosul district, kill militants in airstrike

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army has invaded another district as troops resume their advance in the western side of Mosul, a source said.

Speaking to Shafaaq News, the source said that the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service raided al-Najjar district, recapturing half of it.

Hundreds of Islamic State families publicly fled al-Najjar and the remaining IS-held districts in western Mosul, along with civilians heading toward the liberated regions.

In related news, the War Media Cell reported that Iraqi fighter jets F16 have destroyed a booby-trapping workshop, killing several IS militants in an airstrike launched in western Mosul.

In a statement on Thursday, the WMC said “the airstrike destroyed all weapons and explosive substances that were inside the workshop, located on al-Shifa district, in western Mosul.”

“The jets also destroyed two IS locations, one of them was used for telecommunications. A bomb factory in Tal Afar town was also destroyed,” the statement added.

Iraqi troops free two Yazidi girls from IS captivity in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops have freed two captivated Yazidi girls in western Mosul, AlSumaria News reported on Thursday.

Federal Police’s Rapid Response forces were able to liberate two Yazidi girls, who were held by Islamic State militants in 17 Tamuz (July 17th) district, in western Mosul, the news report mentioned.

The two girls were in good health condition, it added.

IS abducted and executed hundreds of Yazidis after it took over Sinjar district, a Mosul region on the borders with Syria. News reports mentioned that the captives were distributed among the fighters in Iraq and Syria.

After Sinjar fell to IS in August 2014, thousands of Yazidi Kurds fled Sinjar to nearby mountain areas. In March, revealed data showed that 2,915 Yazidis, including nearly 1500 children, were rescued from IS captivity, while more than 3500, including nearly 1500 children, were still held by the extremist group. The ethno-religious minority of Yazidis came to the spotlight when Islamic State militants, taking over large parts of Iraq, victimized its members, massacred, enslaved and tortured thousands of the community members.

Events of Wednesday, May 17:
Minister: Mosul refugees numbers at 670.000

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The number of Iraqi refugees displaced by battles between Islamic State fighters and Iraqi government troops in Mosul has reached 670.000 since encounters broke out in October, the government said Wednesday.

Migration and Displacement Minister Jassem al-Jaff told al-Arabiya TV that 150.000 people have, meanwhile, returned to their home areas, adding that repatriation was still going with a slower pace compared to migration.

Earlier this week, Nineveh council member Hassan al-Allaf said that besides 600.000 civilians the government registered at refugee camps, there are 600.000 more who sought refuge with relatives or settled in rented lodgings.

IS suicide bombers attack Iraqi troops in western Mosul district

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State suicide bombers attacked Iraqi troops on Wednesday with booby-trapped cars at a district in western Mosul where intense encounters continue as the group’s domains shrink.

Rudaw network said the militants attacked the forces with five booby-trapped vehicles at al-Rifaie district, but said no word was given regarding casualties.

On Monday, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command urged Iraqi civilians to avoid using cars or motorbikes for transportation, saying that troops would target those vehicles as IS continues to use them in their attacks against government forces.

More than 30 IS militants killed in two days as troops invade western Mosul districts

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) More than 30 Islamic State militants were killed as Iraqi troops invaded two western Mosul districts, according to the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response forces.

“Rapid Response troops killed on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning more than 30 IS militants while invading Iqtisadiyeen and 17 Tamuz [July 17th] districts in western Mosul,” Maj. Gen. Thamer al-Husseini told Alghad Press on Wednesday.

“The troops resume their advance after raiding 17 Tamuz and Iqtisadiyeen,” he said adding that the militants attempted hindering the forces depending on booby-trapped vehicles and civilians used as human shields.

“Several houses were booby-trapped. Families were held inside. Thus, we were forced to depend on the individual combat skills,” Husseini added.

“The total number of IS members killed on Wednesday exceeded 25, most of whom were Arabs and foreigners. On Tuesday, four booby-trapped vehicles were seized, while 12 militants were killed on Iqtisadiyeen district,” Husseini added.

More Islamic State militants killed in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Twenty Islamic State militants were killed in clashes against the Iraqi troops in western Mosul, a Federal Police officer declared.

“Fierce clashes erupted between Iraqi forces and IS militants in regions of Bab al-Toub, al-Mekkawi and Bab al-Jadid, which left 20 militants killed and others injured,” Lt. Gen. Odai Samir told BasNews on Wednesday.

“The troops confiscated the militants’ weapons,” he said adding that “police troops fully besieged al-Arbeaa and Jadid markets ahead of invading them.”

Iraqi forces recapture western Mosul’s al-Rifaie district, a major IS bastion

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces recaptured on Wednesday al-Rifaie district, a major area held by the Islamic State where intense battles have been running to retake the region.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the army’s elite Counter-Terrorism Service took over the district completely and raised the Iraqi flags above its buildings.

Law student who survived brutal stabbing fears encountering attacker in school exam
[DAWN] Khadija Siddiqui, a student at a private college, who was brutally attacked by her classmate in May last year, is due to sit an exam in the coming week -- alongside her attacker.

Siddiqui, 22, was attacked on May 3 last year, three days before she was due to appear for her final law exams, by Shah Hussain, the son of Advocate Sayed Tanvir Hashmi.

Siddiqui had gone to pick up her seven-year-old sister, Sophia, from school and had barely approached her car when Hussain, wearing a helmet rushed towards them. The attacker then pushed Siddiqui and stabbed her 23 times.

Siddiqui was stabbed 23 times.─Facebook
A murder case was filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) within a week of the attack. Evidence was presented before the judiciary, including video footage which helped identify the attacker.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
LHC had dismissed pre-arrest bail of the suspect in September 2016 while a sessions court granted him post-arrest bail after two months.

Appearing on Geo TV's 'Aaj Shahzaib Khanzada Kay Saath' on Wednesday evening, Siddiqui said she could not accept that a man who had tried to attack her in the presence of her younger sister would be appearing for the same law exam as her in two days.

"He will become a part of the same legal system, this is traumatising for me. I do not know how I will give the exam" Siddiqui said, appearing on the daily talk show a year after the brutal stabbing that left her in a critical state.

Siddiqui said that she used to be friends with Hussain up till a year before he attacked her. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
she added, that all communication between them had been cut off when Hussain became "coercive" towards her. Siddiqui said that Hussain has also hacked her accounts.

The victim of the brutal stabbing expressed her dismay at the legal system that has failed to bring her attacker to accountability.

"I don't understand how you can attack someone in front of their little sister with the intent to murder. Yet in this society, there is no accountability."

Siddiqui said that, in her opinion, the attacker had been allowed to walk free due to the "influence the lawyers have over the judge".

"The judges get scared, the lawyers have so much influence the judges are forced to give an incorrect verdict."

"In our [legal] system there are weaknesses. We have loopholes in the law, of course, but they are not enough to to validate such extensive delays [in granting justice]."

She asserted that the delays were means to exert pressure on "the weaker party."

"Those who have the power to do so, pressure the courts so much that the victim is forced to give up."

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
she added that that her determination to fight her case had never wavered, rather, it had become stronger.

"If i give up, the avenues will open up for others to engage in such violence with ease."

Siddiqui recounted that her attacker's father had approached her outside the court once and asked her to forgive his son.

"I told him the way you have sided with your son... this is very dangerous for the society. He can someday attack another girl, just the way he attacked me," Siddiqui said

Appealing to the judiciary to review its decision, Siddiqui said that her case should become a landmark case and set an example in society of punishment is handed down to even the powerful when they commit a crime.

She said that the decision of the court was "erroneous" and "perverse" and called on Chief justice Saqib Nisar to listen to her appeal.

Siddiqui also appealed to "those who have mothers and daughters in their homes to stand up and raise their voices."

"In this society the woman is always silenced, and she is asked to tolerate. They have tried to silence me as well, but I am still standing strong."

Hungary gets EU sanctions warning
[Al Jazeera] European politicians have threatened Hungary with unprecedented sanctions if the right-wing government does not withdraw some of its anti-European Union rhetoric. A concerted campaign by the Hungarian government blames the European Union for many of its problems. Yet critics of Hungary say it gets billions of dollars every year in European grants, only for the money to disappear because of corruption.

Donald Trump condemns special counsel for Russia probe
[Al Jazeera] US President Donald Trump has denounced the appointment of a special counsel to lead the Russia investigation as "the single greatest witch-hunt" in American history.

In the face of rising pressure from Congress, the US justice department named Robert Mueller, the former FBI director, on Wednesday as special counsel to investigate alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election and possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia.

In a pair of Twitter posts on Thursday morning, Trump made clear he was unhappy with the latest crisis to grip his four-month-old administration.

Dutch court convicts 20 in racist abuse of politician
[NEWS24] A Dutch court has convicted 20 people of insulting or threatening a politician and television personality in a racially charged case that shocked the nation.

The verdicts on Thursday came in the trial in Amsterdam of 21 people accused of targeting Sylvana Simons, who is a former dancer and television presenter of Surinamese descent, with a torrent of online racist abuse. One person was acquitted.

The court said in a statement that the heaviest sentence, 80 hours of community service, went to a man who superimposed the head of Simons on video images of a Ku Klux Klan lynching.

Simons' political group, called Artikel 1, welcomed the verdicts, saying in a tweet that they sent a "clear signal" about the limits of freedom of speech.

#3  So, was this a leering, gaptoothed "attack" on Ms. Simons, or mere mockery of her (I'm assuming here) lurid claims of enduring victimhood? If the latter, and it's me catching 80 hours, I'm demanding to do my time in DF van... or censoring posts online... anti-Christmas education... anti-pork campaign... euthanizing droolers... on and on...

Also, sending in a montage of my face pasted onto cotton pickers, schoolteachers, politicians, Black Peter... Can you buy fun like that, even in Holland? And at the end of it all, to spend a month or two delivering lunches to delightful old Dutch ladies (or passing out prostitute vouchers to junkies, or whatever constitutes community service over there)? What a country! Hey, Sylvana, wanna get married?

Recordings show TAMU prof endorsing anti-white violence in class

- Curry and his defenders insist that recordings of him apparently advocating for "killing white people" were taken out of context.
Yeah, sure...
- A group of former students, however, has compiled an archive of classroom recordings taken over the past several years in which Curry repeatedly advocates for violence against white people.
Here is Dr. Curry's CV and contact page.

#7  Ignored by the movie were those black countrymen who facilitated ans profited from the slave trade.

It's all about the neighbours. The Slavic slave trade goes back to the Roman Empire, but continued until Catherine II of Russia annexed the Crimea in 1783, putting the Moslem Tatars out of business. Link Likewise, the Moslem sub-Saharan tribes hunted their non-Muslim neighbours for fun and profit as they still do today, sending them north to be sold in the great slave markets of the Muslim world. The trade to the Americas was much smaller, and very probably less deadly to the cargo.

#11  The Slavic slave trade goes back to the Roman Empire, but continued until Catherine II of Russia annexed the Crimea in 1783, putting the Moslem Tatars out of business.

It actually continued in the Central Asian khanates until the 1870s, and the Ottomans were enslaving Bulgarians and Serbs at least as late as the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78.

And that's not counting the what the Nazis did, or the Communists for that matter.

"But that doesn't count because reasons!"

ISIS suspect planned to attack Turkish consulate in Holland with AK-47
[ARANews] An Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) suspect, who was incarcerated
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
by the Dutch authorities in December, was allegedly planning an attack on the Turkish consulate in the city of Rotterdam, the Dutch media reports.

The suspect, 31-year old Jaouad A., talked with others about this, as shown by evidence of the Dutch intelligence service AIVD.

The evidence was presented this week at a meeting where the trial against the suspect was discussed.

Jaouad A. was arrested in December 2016 following a tip of the Dutch intelligence. During a security raid on his house, the Dutch police found a Kalashnikov with ammunition, large amounts of firework and a painting of an ISIS flag.

Moreover, a manuel was found on the suspect’s computer showing how to make bombs from firework.

In October 2016, the suspect in a conversation with people discussed attacking the Turkish consulate as a target. It’s unclear with who the ISIS suspect spoke, and most likely his voice was recorded by hidden microphones.

According to lawyer Silvis, who reprents the suspect, not much is clear about the recorded conversation.

"A lot of it is not audible, so the context is not clear," she said.

The court case is expected to continue for three more months.

[THEHILL] New video captures Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

watching members of his security detail violently clash with protestors in Washington on Tuesday.

The Hill confirmed that the video, uploaded to YouTube on Thursday, was shot by a staff member at VOA Turkish, a multimedia Internet and TV service.

In the video, Erdogan emerges from a car in the driveway to watch the incident before heading inside the Turkish ambassador’s residence. His bodyguards are visible from Erdogan's car kicking and punching protesters.

Roughly two dozen protestors had gathered outside of the embassy to protest the Turkish leader’s policies.

Nine people were maimed during the demonstration. The Turkish Embassy said on Wednesday that Erdogan's bodyguards were acting in "self-defense" during the incident and the protesters were affiliated with the terrorist group PKK. A protest leader denied that anyone involved had any ties or sympathies to the PKK.
