-Lurid Crime Tales-
More Than 7 Million Voter Registrations Are Duplicated in Multiple States
[FreeBeacon] More than 7 million voter registrations appear to be registered in two states simultaneously, according to data obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The new voter data was gathered from the Kansas-run interstate voter registration crosscheck program, which is used to identify "possible duplicate registrations among states."

The program began in December 2005 and conducted its first crosscheck in 2006. It is administered by the office of Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who was tapped recently to help lead President Trump's voter fraud commission.
That sound you hear is a million demoncratic sphincters slamming shut
The newest data is from crosschecks of voter registrations across 28 states that participate in the program. At least 7.2 million registrations appeared in two states at once, according to the data.

Georgia (660,708), North Carolina (561,811), and Illinois (542,065) lead the 28 states studied in potential duplicated voter registrations across state lines.

The study shows that more than 916,000 people appear to be registered multiple times within their state of residence. North Carolina accounts for 90 percent of potential intrastate duplicates.
Definitely enough to tip the balance of an election
There was a big Democrat-pushed registration effort in North Carolina before the last election, as I recall. People came in from across the country to help...
Nearly 68,000 registered voters across the 28 states had "invalid" dates of birth, a category that include missing, incomplete, or placeholder birth dates, which can reflect older records before dates of birth were kept on file.

The program also found 32,000 registered voters who appeared to have invalid Social Security Numbers tied to their voter records, which can result either from clerical mistakes or fraud.

The new data remains virtually unchanged from a 2014 study conducted by the secretary of state's office, when 7.3 million voters were registered in more than one state.

President Trump signed an executive order on May 11 establishing a commission to investigate voter fraud in the United States that will be led by Vice President Mike Pence and Kobach.

The commission, which will study "vulnerabilities" in the voting system and look at voter suppression and fraud in terms of registration and actual voting, will meet for the first time this summer and present its findings in 2018.

Logan Churchwell, spokesman for the Public Interest Legal Foundation, a group that litigates to protect election integrity, said the most recent data from the Kansas interstate crosscheck program serves as a foundation for the commission.

"This is foundational data the Trump election integrity commission needs to assess how well voter rolls are being maintained for a society that is increasingly mobile," Churchwell told the Washington Free Beacon. "Academics and activists attacking this commission are accessories to fraud and mismanagement of voter rolls."
And those activists and commission fucks are all demoncrat too.
ID to vote; when and where you voted is recorded. Multiple entries leads to instant execution. Problem solved.

Egypt's general prosecutor refers 14 to criminal court over plot to assassinate political, security figures
[AlAhram] Egypt’s general prosecutor referred to criminal court on Friday 14 people charged with forming a terrorist cell that aimed to carry out liquidations on political and security figures, state news agency MENA reported.

General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek referred the men for planning to execute bombings against state apparatuses and security checkpoints.

Investigations were conducted by the Supreme National Security prosecution. The case includes 12 defendants already detained pending investigation and two still on the lam.

The prosecution stressed that leaders of the now banned Muslim Brotherhood provided financial support to the defendants to carry out their plan.
According to investigations, three of the unnamed defendants joined the Islamic State

terrorist group in Syria, where they received training and planned to carry out attacks upon arrival to Egypt.

The prosecution added that the defendants divided the cell into three units, each responsible for a specific duty. It stressed that leaders of the now banned Moslem Brüderbund provided financial support to the defendants to carry out their plan.

According to the prosecution, the men used an apartment in Cairo’s al-Salam City as a hideout, and made use of the Line freeware app for instant communication free of security monitoring.

The defendants confessed to observing police and several military headquarters, including a New Maadi police checkpoint and a military outlet in Salam city, as well as power stations in Obour, several gold shops owned by Coptic Christians and banks in the area, as well as the Hilton and Movenpick hotels in 6th of October's Media City.

The men are also charged with joining an outlawed group aiming to overthrow the government, prevent state institutions from performing their duties and harm national peace and unity, as well as targeting state institutions and attempting to disrupt the peace through terrorism.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Huge turnout as Iranians deliver verdict on Rouhani
[DAWN] Iranians poured into polling stations on Friday to deliver their verdict on President Hassan Rouhani and his troubled efforts to rebuild ties with the world and kickstart the struggling economy.

There was a festive atmosphere in Tehran where Rouhani, a 68-year-old moderate holy man who spearheaded a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, was mobbed by cheering supporters as he voted in a city centre mosque.

"The enthusiastic participation of Iranians in the election reinforces our national power and security," he said, as polling stations reported morning queues were far longer than usual.

Rouhani, who has framed the vote as a choice between greater civil liberties and "extremism", faces stiff competition from hardline holy man Ebrahim Raisi, 56, who has positioned himself as a defender of the poor and called for a much tougher line with the West.

"We must all respect the vote of the people," Raisi said as he cast his ballot in southern Tehran.

But his campaign had already started to complain about the conduct of the vote even before polls closed, saying there had been hundreds of "propaganda actions" by Rouhani supporters at voting booths, which are banned under election laws.

Raisi has targeted working-class voters hit by high unemployment and austerity measures, as well as those who worry that the values of the 1979 revolution are under threat.

"His main focus is deprived people and he wants to fight corruption," said Mohsen, a 32-year-old Raisi supporter.

"Our country is surrounded by enemies -- if we don't strengthen our domestic situation, we will be harmed."

Hundreds of Palestinians riot in West Bank, Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Two Israelis maimed, dozens of demonstrators said hurt as festivities erupt after Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", calls for a ’day of rage’

Israeli security forces faced off against Paleostinian rioters Friday in multiple locations throughout the West Bank and along the Gazoo border, as hundreds took part in the violent demonstrations.

Demonstrators burned tires and hurled rocks at Israeli security forces, who were responding with non-lethal means. On the Gazoo border Paleostinians claimed live fire was used in some instances as rioters approached the border fence.

An Israeli soldier and a Border Policeman were lightly maimed by rock throwers during a riot near the West Bank village of Aboud, north of Ramallah.

The Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy reported that between 30 and 40 people had been injured throughout the territories, mostly by tear gas and rubber bullets. In Gazoo one man was said to be at death's door and two others reportedly suffered moderate injuries.

Hamas had called for a "day of rage" on Thursday, in an apparent attempt to inflame the Paleostinian streets ahead of US President Donald Trump

Earlier Friday a tractor was set ablaze and graffiti reading "Dire Revenge" was sprayed on a wall in a suspected hate crime in a Paleostinian village in the northern West Bank. The suspected "price tag" hate crime attack occurred in the village of Burin, near Nablus, according to a police report. A star of David and the Hebrew word for "Dire Revenge" were sprayed near the destroyed tractor.

Police said they opened an investigation into the incident and were collecting evidence.

Burin is a short distance from the Paleostinian town of Hawara, where an Israeli man whose car was attacked by rioters late Thursday shot up the crowd, shooting dead a Paleostinian man and injuring an News Agency that Dare Not be Named photojournalist.

appears to have turned its attention on Deir Ezzor in a bid to defeat the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) garrison in the besieged eastern city.

Targeting weak points in the SAA’s line of defense, ISIS launched a localized offensive at the mountainous area southwest of Deir Ezzor in a bid to roll back recent government gains en route to the encircled southern airport.

Amaq Agency published photos of the attack which nevertheless yielded zero jihadist gains.

Contrary to virtually all other regions, ISIS still holds the upper hand in Deir Ezzor where SAA contingents have very few disposable armored vehicles, thus preventing rapid government gains that are highly dependent on infantry advances.

Prior to encirclement of Mosul and Tal Afar, the Islamic State withdrew hundreds of tanks and armored vehicles to Syria as these are not suitable for urban warfare.

But ISIS continues to deploy them to deadly effect around Deir Ezzor which also houses the largest percentage of so-called caliphate cubs (child soldiers) compared to all other frontlines.

Municipal Judge In Texas On Unpaid Leave Pending U.S. Citizenship
From the article:

"The job posting specified only the ability to work in the U.S.," Nathan Burkett wrote. "She has never made a representation that she is a citizen."

Burkett is on unpaid leave for 90 days to give her time to obtain citizenship, said Mayor pro-tem Lucy Rubio, after a closed-door session of the City Council on Tuesday.

Yep, this is America now.

This is Texas, anyway. I am under the impression that in most states one must be a citizen to get a licence to practice law, but I don't actually know. More on this story from yesterday.

#6  This South Korean citizen was the second one they found, if I'm reading the article correctly. From the article:

Generally, the city includes on applications for appointees a question about whether the appointee is a qualified voter, Garza said.

However, that question was not included on the applications of some of the recent municipal court judge appointments. The discrepancy was noticed by city staff during the process of appointing a different judge, said Garza, who serves on the municipal court committee.

The staff went back to verify that current municipal court judges were qualified voters and found Burkett was not, he said.

The application has been changed to address the issue, Garza said.

The issue being that someone decided that asking if you are a citizen is mean and racist and stuff so they removed the question.

At least 2 policemen killed as police clash with Shia militia in Baghdad
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) At least two coppers were killed late Thursday when a Shia militia engaged in festivities with police forces in Baghdad, a security source was quoted saying.

Clashes broke out between police forces and Asaeb Ahl al-Haq in central Baghdad’s Paleostine street, the source told Sky News Arabia, but added that the reason behind the clash was unknown.

A spokesperson of the militia, Naeem al-Aboudi, said, however, in a statement quoted by Alsumaria News, that the festivities broke out between police and a group of individuals who claimed affiliation with al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units). He said the militia supports the rule of law and said an investigation would open into the incident.

US airstrike targets pro-government forces near Syrian crossing
[ALMASDARNEWS] The U.S. Coalition carried out another Arclight airstrike against a group of pro-government Iraqi paramilitary fighters near the Syrian border-crossing, Iraq’s Afaq TV reported yesterday.

According to the Afaq report, members of the Iraqi paramilitary unit, Sayyed al-Shuhada Regiment, were attacked, yesterday, by the U.S. Coalition near the Albukamal Border-Crossing in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

The report added that at least one Sayyed al-Shuhada fighter was killed and another six were badly injured by the U.S. attack near Albukamal.

The Sayyed al-Shuhada Regiment is part of the Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd al-Sha’abi); they have participated in several offensives that have been backed by the U.S. military.

This attack was under reported because of the large strike by the U.S. Coalition on a Syrian military convoy near the Tanf Border-Crossing in southeast Homs.

Cong for action against Hurriyat
[Daily Excelsior] The Congress today termed as "extremely serious" the allegations that Hurriyat leaders received funds from across the border and called for strong action as it involves national security.

AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi also hit out at the central and the Jammu and Kashmire Governments saying there has never been such a rapid, accelerated and tragic decline in governance in the State as has been during the last 36 months.

"It is extremely serious. It is gross, brazen and blatant and deserves the strongest action in the shortest possible time and in the most effective manner. This undermines national security directly and completely," he said.

The Congress leader, however, trained his guns on the BJP saying its leaders are preaching on Kashmire even when they have been in power both at the Centre and the State, and alleged that there has been lack of governance in the State under them.

"What we are seeing everyday is homilies, preachings, lectures, sermons being given by none less than high Government functionaries to which the entire country, in a bemused, amused manner asks itself and the nation asks that whom are you giving lectures to," he said.

"Be it casualties, violence, lack of governance, lack of decision making, lack of co-ordination, security scenario different departments and Ministers pulling in directions, no consistency of policy etc. In 36 months we have seen the most rapid decline," he said.

Singh said the Congress has also been in power for 10 years in Kashmire amid external infiltrations, "but never before have we seen this kind of tragic state of affairs which makes the heart of every Indian bleed".

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the role of Lashker-e-Toiba chief Hafiz Mohammed Saeed and hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmire.

The NIA named the two in its Preliminary Enquiry (PE), which precedes the filing of a case. It also named Naeem Khan, who was seen on television during a sting operation purportedly confessing to receiving money from Pakistain-based terror groups.

Motorcyclist and alligator survive collision
[BRADENTON] Another day in Florida, another alligator hit by a vehicle.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old motorcyclist from Wimauma was traveling westbound on State Road 674 just west of Katie Stanaland in Hillsborough County around 12:28 a.m. Friday. At the same time, a 10-foot, 9-inch alligator was crossing the road in front of him.

The motorcyclist hit the alligator, throwing him from the cycle of violence. He landed on the Little Manatee River overpass.

The man was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries. The alligator was listed at death's door and was picked up by alligator trapper Rob Upthegrove, according to FHP.

On Wednesday night in Sarasota County, another alligator was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 75. The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Manatee County trapper Kevin Hibler said there may be a few reasons why alligators are being hit.

"Right now, the alligators are moving around a lot because it’s mating season," he said.

Cummings spoke following a briefing from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on the firing of FBI Director James Comey and, prior to his mini-speech, complained about the firing having "turned into a mess" and applauded Robert Mueller’s appointment as special counsel on the Russia investigation.

He thanked news hounds and began walking away, but turned back to the media stakeout to inform his fans that "if there is any moment that the press in our country's history has a major role, it is this moment."

"This is your moment. You have got to put it out there so people can understand what is going on. I have said it before and I'll say it again, this is about the fight for the soul of our democracy. We cannot afford to lose this one. Thank you very much," Cummings concluded.

Kenya nabs 33 Al-Shabaab militants in four months
[SHABELLENEWS] Kenyan police on Thursday announced the arrest of at least 33 al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
holy warriors between December-March in the ongoing operation Linda Boni in the coastal town of Lamu.

Deputy County Commissioner Michael Kioni said 20 holy warriors were tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
along the Lamu-Malindi route while 13 were arrested between Garrisa-Lamu road by Kenya security agents.

Kioni said the suspects were enroute from Somalia to carry out attacks targeting Lamu and parts of northeastern region when they were intercepted by security agents working on intelligence reports.

"We managed to arrest the suspects and thwarted their plans to stage attacks in the country. Majority were Somali nationals and few Kenyans from various parts of the country," Kioni said in Lamu.

Last year, 36 suspected al-Shabaab holy warriors were arrested in Operation Boni that was launched in September 2015. The operation targeted the Jeysh Ayman, a 300-member al-Shabaab cell that operated in the forest.

The vast Boni forest area, along the Kenya Somalia border extends into Somalia to become Lacta Belt that was infiltrated by al-Shabaab operatives.

Head of security operations in the Boni Forest, James ole Serian said the suspects were handed to agencies including the anti-terrorism police unit (ATPU) for profiling and possible prosecution.

Serian said the operation has been successful but that the terror group based in Somalia remains a threat.

It emerged in July 2015 that al-Shabaab holy warriors had set up permanent base in the vast forest and were living there with their families.

The holy warriors and their wives and children hunt game for food and use water from several rivers in the forest. Serian said Lamu will soon be declared a terrorist-free zone following the success of Operation Linda Boni.

  • The Muslim Brotherhood's long-time double game with terrorism

  • The crisis caused by Egypt's rejection of Muslim Brotherhood rule and the massive June 30, 2013 Tamarod protests

  • The Muslim Brotherhood's attempt to provoke a sectarian war by launching attacks on Egypt's Coptic Christian community

  • And the development of Muslim Brotherhood's terror networks under Guidance Bureau leader Mohamed Kamal and the two-front war targeting Egypt's military and police forces

Syrian man, 20, convicted in Berlin of passing info to ISIS
[Ynet] A German court convicted a Syrian refugee Friday of membership in ISIS in his homeland and later providing information for a possible attack against "soft targets" in Berlin.

Berlin's criminal court sentenced Shaas al-Mohammad,
...that's fast. We first encountered Mr. al-Mohammad when he went to trial at the beginning of April. But when Germans set themselves to improve efficiency, it gets improved...
20, to five years in prison on 150 counts of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and 149 counts of violating weapons laws.
*blink* A busy boy.
Judges noted the seriousness of the crimes, but applied youth sentencing guidelines because most of them happened before the defendant turned 18.
Expulsion to follow completion of his sentence, one hopes.

U.S. air strike in Syria hit ‘military point’, caused deaths: Syrian military source on state media
[IraqiNews] A military source on the Syrian government side said on Friday that a U.S. air strike against a Damascus-backed militia the day before hit "one of our military points", without elaborating, state media outlets reported.

The air strike late on Thursday killed several people and caused material damage, the source said, adding that this hampered efforts by the Syrian army and its allies to fight Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
The U.S. military carried out the strike on the militia as they headed towards the al-Tanf military base in southern Syria ‐ near the Syria-Iraq-Jordan border ‐ used by U.S. and U.S.-backed rebel forces.

U.S. officials said the strike was purely a defensive measure.

A member of the U.S.-backed Syrian rebel forces told Rooters the convoy comprised Syrian and Iranian-backed militias and was headed toward the Tanf base when they clashed with some rebel forces.

Syria’s ally Russia said on Friday that the strike had hit civilians and was unacceptable, Russian news agencies reported.

"Hit Civilians"?

Since when has Russian been concerned about "civilians", when Russian is not even concerned about their own civilians?

Swedish prosecutor drops rape investigation of Assange
[Ynet] Sweden's top prosecutor says she is dropping an investigation into a rape claim against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange after almost seven years.

The Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement Friday that Marianne Ny "has decided to discontinue the investigation."
Seven years imprisoned in that embassy is probably a longer sentence than the Swedish courts would have given him. But his travails are not yet at an end. Al Ahram adds:
British police said they will have to arrest WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for breaching his bail if he leaves Ecuador's embassy after a rape investigation against him in Sweden was dropped by prosecutors on Friday.

The police said in a statement that a warrant was issued against him for failing to hand himself in in 2012, adding: "The Metropolitan Police Service is obliged to execute that warrant should he leave the embassy".

Eight Brotherhood members referred to Egypt's Grand Mufti for opinion on death sentences in Beheira police station case
The process also is a punishment. Quite possibly, after a few more years of the case winding its way through the courts, they will for some procedural reason be set free. Unless they are involved in another case that is simultaneously winding its way...
[AlAhram] An Egypt criminal court ordered that eight members of the now banned Muslim Brotherhood be referred to the country's Grand Mufti, in a preliminary step before the death sentences against the defendants can be finalised. The eight are convicted of attacking a police station in Nile Delta's Beheira governorate.

The Damanhour court is set on 17 June to issue its verdict, for those handed preliminary death sentences as well as 11 others in the case.

The preliminary death sentences are pending the non-binding consultative opinion of the country’s Grand Mufti, per Egypt's penal code.

Once the court issues its final verdict in the case, the defendants have the right to appeal it once again.

The defendants are convicted of forming a terrorist cell and shooting forces at Beheira’s Abo El-Matameer police station in 2015.

No one was killed during the 2015 attack.

IDF invited to International Army Games competition in Russia
[Ynet] The IDF will send a delegation to compete in the fields of military medicine and logistics; annual competition allows countries to compete in fields of armor, paratroopers, military police and more.
What a wonderful opportunity to see what the neighbours can do, while not showing Israel's abilities.
For the first time, the IDF has been invited to participate in the International Army Games against 27 other countries, including the Syrian Army.

In the past three years, the Russians have been conducting an annual "military Olympics" in which various armies from the world compete in professional fields such as armor, paratroopers, military police, medicine, and more. The 2017 games will also include drone usage for the first time.

The upcoming games are scheduled to be held on August 22-27 in Bukovinka--a large open area near Moscow.

Last year, a contingent of Iranian paratroopers belonging to the Revolutionary Guards took part in the games.

The IDF is planning on participating in the military medicine and logistics events.

The London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper reported on Tuesday that US generals and Russian military advisers were meeting on issues related to border security between Israel and Jordan and dealing with ISIS, according to the newspaper.

Israel is directly and actively involved in the arrangements that are being made in the region, and Jordan is operating a joint room with Russian and American partners to combat the infiltration of ISIS members into its territory. Israel's direct involvement in such talks constitute a high level of cooperation in the security of the Syrian-Jodan-Israel border region.

The Russians, together with the United States, have initiated the establishment of a large demilitarized zone in southern Syria near the border with Jordan, and the Russians are not interested in sending troops to monitor the sector and have no interest in the Iranians or Hezbollah being there as well.

The coordination with Israel is vital, as far as they are concerned, to ensure the success of this mission.

Anthony Weiner will probably receive somewhere around a two-year sentence for sexting a 15-yr old girl according to published information. Strange but a Secret Service officer who sexted underage girls while on duty at the WH received a 20-yr sentence for the same offense earlier in the week.

Matt Taibbi Delivers Vicious Takedown of Roger Ailes
File under De mortuis nihil nisi bonum
[MEDIAITE] Add Rolling Stone writer Matt Taibbi to the list of those who aren’t sad to see Ailes gone. In what can only be described as a nasty takedown of the ex-FNC head, Taibbi blamed Ailes for creating the "hyper-divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
media environment" American public -- described as "a hate-filled, paranoid, untrusting, book-dumb and bilious people"
Bilious?? Next he'll add dyspeptic, and he'll get himself lynched with it.
-- currently finds itself in.

Then he had this to say about the man who had just passed away:

Ailes was the Christopher Columbus of hate. When the former daytime TV executive and political strategist looked across the American continent, he saw money laying around in giant piles. He knew all that was needed to pick it up was a) the total abandonment of any sense of decency or civic duty in the news business, and b) the factory-like production of news stories that spoke to Americans’ worst fantasies about each other.

After highlighting Ailes’ history with Fox News and how he believed the network was responsible for pushing outlandish conspiracy theories and getting Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
elected president, Taibbi ended the piece with this observation:

The extent to which we hate and fear each other now ‐ that’s not any one person’s fault. But no one person was more at fault than Roger Ailes. He never had a soul to sell, so he sold ours. It may take 50 years or a century for us to recover. Even dictators rarely have that kind of impact. Enjoy the next life, you monster.

This Week in Guns, May 20th, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

According to this link, California legislators are planning to rush a gun registration regime through, with the goal of a January, 2018 deadline. I do not know if the linked document is authentic, but it makes sense rhat with all the firearms regulations the state of Californa has imposed in the last year, a registration requirement would soon follow.

And you know what comes after that: Full bans.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mostly steady. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

The nationwide average price for a used AR-15 pattern semiautomatic has dropped to another historical low at $450. It will be interesting to see just how far down AR-15s go in the current deflationary environment. The newest decline continues the trend begun in March, 2017.

#6  Trailing daughter #2 and Mr. daughter (yes, I am having fun doing this properly -- why do you ask?) moved to Dallas last October. Td#2 told me house prices are appreciating at the rate of 1% per month, and houses are selling so quickly that buyers are putting in offers sight unseen -- and often offers on multiple houses in the hope that at least one will be accepted. This concerned me until she said in Dallas there is a period of time after the seller accepts an offer that the buyer can cancel without penalty, lest they be on the hook for three or four properties at once.

‘Caliphate’ in agony: ISIS mines houses in Mosul to prevent civilians from fleeing
[ALMASDARNEWS] Militants of the so-called "Islamic State

... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
to prevent them from leaving their homes, as Iraqi forces make their final push against the jihadists after seven months of fighting.

Trapped in a shrinking area of control in the city, the Death Eaters are increasingly using the several hundred thousand civilians under their control as human shields to avoid being targeted. Lieutenant-General Abdul Ghani al-Assadi of the elite Counter Terrorism Services (CTS) said Isis chained civilians by the hands and used them as human shields to move around.

Backed by a US-led coalition, Iraqi forces have made rapid gains since opening a new front in north-west Mosul this month and have now dislodged Islamic State from all but about 12 square km (five square miles) of the city.

The Death Eaters still control the Old City, where they are expected to make their last stand in the densely populated, narrow streets that are impassible for armoured vehicles, forcing Iraqi forces to advance on foot.

The Iraqi government is pushing to declare victory by the holy month of Ramadan ‐ beginning on 27 May ‐ even if pockets of resistance remain in the Old City.

Lieutenant-General Abdul Ghani al-Assadi told state TV his elite Counter Terrorism Services (CTS) were advancing steadily in the Rifaie and Najjar districts, aiming to reach the western bank of Tigris river and complete the Old City’s encirclement. The Death Eaters had deployed 30 suicide boom-mobiles against his troops in Mosul over the past two days, he said.

Erdogan personally orders Turkish security guards to beat up protesters on US soil
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Thursday, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan unleashed his henchmen on around 50 anti-government protesters, injuring eleven people outside the residence of the Turkish ambassador in Washington according to official sources.

American demonstrators protested against Ankara’s policies in Iraq and Syria amid a meeting between Donald Trump

allies.

Now, footage has emerged from a new angle showing the vehicle where Erdogan sat on the back seat. At 0:13, an advisor appears to be given an important message. Seconds later, Turkish security guards begin beating up civilians in broad daylight:

The State Department condemned the attack as an assault on free speech and warned The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
that the action would not be tolerated. "We are communicating our concern to the Turkish government in the strongest possible terms," said Heather Nauert, a State Department spokeswoman.

The initial rush devolved into several smaller skirmishes as uniformed coppers, some in helmets and swinging collapsible batons, struggled to restore order.

Remarkably, no arrests were made despite the Turkish violence in broad daylight seemingly at the direct order of Erdogan himself who appeared to be upset over the provocative loudspeaker chants.

French team finds way to unlock computers infected with WannaCry virus as ransom deadline looms
[Telegraph] French researchers have found a way to save Windows files encrypted by the WannaCry virus, racing against a deadline as the ransomware threatens to start locking up victims' computers first infected a week ago.

WannaCry, which started to sweep round the globe last Friday and has infected more than 300,000 computers in 150 nations, threatens to lock out victims who have not paid a sum of $300 to $600 (£230 to £460) within one week of infection.

A loose-knit team of security researchers scattered across the globe have revealed they have collaborated to develop a workaround to unlock the encryption key for files hit in the global attack, which several independent security researchers have confirmed.

But the researchers said their solution would only work in certain conditions, namely if computers had not been rebooted since becoming infected and if victims applied the fix before WannaCry carried out its threat to lock their files permanently.

Wanakiwi was quickly tested and shown to work on Windows 7 and older Windows versions XP and 2003, Suiche said, adding that he believed the hastily developed fix also works with Windows 2008 and Vista, meaning all affected PCs.
The group includes Adrien Guinet, who works as a security expert, Matthieu Suiche, who is an internationally known hacker, and Benjamin Delpy, whose day job is at the Banque de La Belle France.

Wanakiwi was quickly tested and shown to work on Windows 7 and older Windows versions XP and 2003, Suiche said, adding that he believed the hastily developed fix also works with Windows 2008 and Vista, meaning all affected PCs.

"This is not a perfect solution," Suiche said. "But this is so far the only workable solution to help enterprises to recover their files if they have been infected and have no back-ups" which allow users to restore data without paying black-mailers.

As of Wednesday, half of all internet addresses corrupted globally by WannaCry were located in China and Russia, with 30 and 20 percent of infections, respectively, according to data supplied by threat intelligence firm Kryptos Logic.

By contrast, the United States accounts for 7 percent of WannaCry infections while Britannia, La Belle France and Germany each represent just 2 percent of worldwide attacks, Kryptos said.

Only 309 transactions worth around $94,000 appear to have been paid into WannaCry blackmail accounts, seven days after the attack began - just under one in 1,000 of the estimated victims.
In a box the Telegraph asks whether WannaCry can be removed without paying, and answers:
Yes, by using advanced anti-malware software. The malware can also be removed manually with a computer in "safe mode", however security experts warn this runs the risk of damage to a PC as users must go through sensitive system files in order to find and isolate files created by the Wanna Decryptor software.

Over 50 jihadist militants killed as ISIS pays the price for upholding Deir Ezzor siege
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Friday, fierce festivities erupted across the eastern city of Deir Ezzor as ISIS unleashed several attacks on the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) which nevertheless punished renewed Islamic State

aggression by inflicting heavy casualties.

In the morning hours, at least 10 ISIS bandidos bully boyz were killed amid an attack targeting the highly fortified 137th Regiment army base. In addition, the SAA’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Elite Republican Guard ‐ assisted by the 121st Artillery Regiment ‐ also destroyed a mortar position along with a pickup truck fitted with a 23 mm gun.

A large second jihadist attack also unfolded at newly liberated points in the cemetery area and al-Mowazafeen district where deadly trench warfare resulted in the death of around 30 ISIS bully boyz in the afternoon hours.

Additionally, the SAA and National Defence Forces (NDF) targeted ISIS-held positions in the Huwyqah district and scored several direct hits although a military source debriefing al-Masdar News on the situation could not specify the ISIS corpse count on this axis.

The Russian and Syrian air forces were highly active over Deir Ezzor on Friday, conducting sorties at the cemetary area, Thardah Mountain, Taim Oil Fields and a handful of ISIS-held suburbs inside the thriving provincial capital.

Meanwhile,

UN-sponsored cargo planes dropped tons of food and supplies to besieged civilians in government-held Deir Ezzor, a residential area home to around 85,000 non-combattants whom are often caught in crossfire.

At 7:00 p.m this evening, a sandstorm swept across Deir Ezzor, thus grounding Russian and Syrian warplanes. ISIS often uses poor weather conditions to launch attacks; therefore, the SAA, NDF and pro-government tribal fighters are on high alert for overnight ISIS raids.

Violation of diplomatic norms
[DAILYTIMES.PK] It would appear that with every passing day diplomatic relations between Islamabad and Kabul are ever more firmly trapped in a downward spiral. The recent visits by senior political and military officials to Kabul resulted in nothing but further mistrust. Then the Chaman skirmish happened, leading to accusations and conflicting claims being hurled by both sides regarding the number of casualties -- with flag meetings yielding no progress. Now it would appear that another red line of diplomatic norms has been crossed with the ill treatment of Pak embassy staff stationed in Kabul.

The kidnapping and torture of two embassy staffers -- who included a visa assistant -- by National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) agents is a very unfortunate breach of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
. Moreover, such actions violate the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961. When one state sends its officials to another, local officials are bound to treat them with respect, dignity and above all, diplomatic consideration. But it was not so, in this case.

In the past, diplomatic officials were confined to the Pak embassy in Kabul due to violent protests, which allowed for speculation that elements of the Afghan state had given at least tacit support. Such events leave a particularly bad taste in the mouth for Islamabad, given that it is widely perceived in Pakistain that the NDS and the Indian spy agency RAW
... India's Research and Analysis Wing, Pakistain's equivalent of the Boogie Man...
collaborate regularly to ’contain’ Pakistain.

Pakistain has been already making efforts to improve relations with Afghanistan, by extending the hand of friendship through official and track-II initiatives, and also by playing a role in the Afghan grinding of the peace processor with the backing of Beijing, Moscow and Ankara. Such efforts need to be redoubled from Islamabad, but even more importantly, Kabul will also have to meet its neighbour halfway. Sullen hostility will not help any of the sides.

The region is already at the crossroads of major economic development especially with the One Belt One Road (OBOR) project rapidly materialising. It would be helpful if the administration in Kabul were to fashion foreign policy goals which are conducive to regional economic and cultural synergy, rather than conflict. In fact, all countries of the region would benefit from keeping this priority paramount.

...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. According to a rebel source, the Jaish al-Islam unit snuck into two buildings and rubbed out three ISIS bandidos hard boyz while forcing a fourth combatant to surrender on the spot. The surprise operation also saw Jaish al-Islam seize a batch of weaponry and ammunition from the ISIS garrison which was caught completely off-guard.

Minutes later, Jaish al-Islam withdrew from the strong point after skirmishes erupted with nearby ISIS bandidos hard boyz whom had heard the initial gunfire. Nevertheless, the buildings were demolished by bombs hastily planted by the Saudi-backed Jaish al-Islam before its fighters withdrew from the area.

Recently, nearly 100 bandidos hard boyz from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) agreed to evacuate from the Yarmouk Camp and surrender control of their residential areas to the SAA. Shortly after, ISIS launched an attack on the al-Qaeda linked HTS to prevent the deal from taking place.

Turkey seeks arrest of owner, 3 staff of opposition daily: state media
[AlAhram] Turkish authorities issued arrest warrants on Friday for the owner and three employees of opposition daily Sozcu, state media reported, as the crackdown on opposition media widened.

The owner, Burak Akbay, and the three others, including the executive in charge of the website, Mediha Olgun, are accused of links to the movement led by Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
blamed for last year's failed coup, Anadolu news agency reported.

The fiercely anti-government and ultra-secularist daily whose name means "front man" is one of the country's bestselling papers.

Its slogan is: "If #Sozcu is silent, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
will be silent."

Istanbul prosecutors issued the warrants for the four including correspondent Gokmen Ulu and Yonca Kaleli, a finance executive, CNN Turk broadcaster said.

Anadolu said Olgun were tossed into the calaboose and Akbay was out of the country.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Sozcu's lawyer Ismail Yilmaz denied arrest warrants had been issued, telling the private Dogan news agency warrants had been issued to seize and search their belongings.

Yilmaz confirmed Olgun was in jug but said that could be in connection with another investigation, Dogan reported.

The four are accused of "committing crimes on behalf of an armed terror organization", referring to the Gulen movement, CNN Turk reported.

CNN Turk said the suspects were wanted in connection with an online article published on the same day as the attempted coup on July 15 and the accusations levelled at them included "facilitating a real attack on the president".

The article in question revealed details of where President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
was on holiday in the upmarket Aegean resort of Marmaris, CNN Turk said, and had images of his hotel.

Sozcu is the second daily to be targeted after another leading opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet saw 20 staff members charged under the state of emergency imposed after the attempted putsch.

The daily is on occasion rabidly anti Erdogan and its angry front pages are regarded with some suspicion by some liberal Turks critical of the president.

Its sometimes lurid approach contrasts with the more moderate tone of Cumhuriyet, one of the country's oldest dailies.

According to the P24 press freedom website, there are 165 journalists behind bars in Turkey, most of whom were detained as part of the emergency imposed after the coup bid.

Woman survivor’s trauma
[DAWN] THE merciless violence suffered by women in this country is evident in cases of ’honour’ crime, premeditated murder and acid attacks -- often inflicted by perpetrators known to them. Take the case of Khadija Siddiqui. Last year, the young law student was stabbed 23 times in Lahore by a fellow student. Although she miraculously survived the attack, it left her with wounds that required 200 stitches. This week, Ms Siddiqui learnt that she would be sitting her final exams at the same time as her attacker. Disturbingly, the alleged attacker, the son of an advocate, is on post-arrest bail granted by a sessions court in December 2015. As a victim of a gruesome crime, not only has Ms Siddiqui suffered tremendous physical and psychological trauma but now must relive memories of this assault as she may come face to face with her attacker, who had stabbed her in the presence of her six-year-old sister. Ironically, instead of the justice system punishing the alleged perpetrator, he is about to sit his exams for entry into the legal fraternity that is supposed to uphold the rule of law and work towards the protection of human life. This is a travesty of justice; it also demonstrates a lack of respect for and apathy towards women victims.

Documenting cases of more than 2,500 women victims of violence in 2016, a recent HRCP report has noted no significant decline in violence against women. This calls for strengthening legislative mechanisms and protection systems for women. With incriminating evidence including video footage of the attack, Ms Siddiqui’s case must be re-examined so that justice is served and her alleged attacker, known for his violent behaviour, does not walk free -- despite reports that powerful quarters are trying to influence the outcome of the case. The practice of silencing women victims and coercing them to withdraw court cases must stop. The state must ensure that legislation such as the Punjab

3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

27 Syrian soldiers killed by Islamic State attack in eastern Homs: Amaq
[ALMASDARNEWS] According to the ISIS-linked Amaq Agency, a jihadist jacket wallah named Abu Othman al-Tai drove a boom-mobile headlong into a gathering of Syrian troops in eastern Homs on Thursday.

murderous Moslems reportedly overran several unidentified SAA-held positions in the Mannoukh area and seized spoils of war at the newly captured points.

The outlet claimed 27 soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were killed-in-action following the attack which targeted a desert area north of the T4 Airbase.

Amaq also underlined that one SAA tank and BMP-1 were destroyed by the subsequent infantry attack. In addition, ISIS supposedly seized a batch of anti-tank missiles and a pickup truck from the government forces.

Al-Masdar News could not independently verify the aforementioned claims. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
military sources said that heavy festivities have occurred in eastern Homs over the past 48 hours.

Since last month, the SAA has liberated a number of villages and key hill tops in eastern Homs, thereby advancing through territory controlled by the self-declared caliphate since 2014.

Amaq Agency also published a series of pictures on Tuesday showing the alleged destruction of two T-72 tanks in the Hama and Homs countryside.

Macron heads to Mali to reaffirm French commitment to battle jihadists
[AlAhram] President Emmanuel Macron undertakes his first trip as commander-in-chief on Friday when he meets troops fighting Islamist forces of Evil in Mali where the security situation has worsened despite French intervention more than four years ago.

The Sahel, a politically fragile area whose remote desert spaces spanning from Mauritania in the west to Sudan in the east host a medley of jihadist groups, is seen as vulnerable after a series of attacks in recent months.

That has been brought further to light after a spike in violence across Mali, where the former colonial power intervened more than four years ago to drive out al Qaeda-linked forces of Evil who hijacked a rebellion in 2012 by ethnic Tuaregs and attempted to take control of the central government in Bamako.

Macron, a newcomer to international diplomacy, put counter-terrorism at the top of his security priorities during the election campaign, vowing to strengthen support for West African allies.

"Emmanuel Macron made the commitment during the campaign to immediately go and see troops engaged in the fight against terrorism," said a senior French diplomat.

The trip to Gao, where some 1,600 troops are based and where he will also hold talks with Mali's President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, will reaffirm Gay Paree' engagement, in stark contrast to his predecessor Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
, who began his term pulling troops out of Afghanistan.

After sending troops to Mali, La Belle France has since spread some 4,000 soldiers across the region to hunt down Islamists,
...that would be Operation Barkhane, named after a crescent-shaped dune in the Sahara desert. They are faced off against the local branch of Al Qaeda in North Africa in its latest iteration announced this March, being a compilation of the Tuaregs of Ansar Dine, al-Murabitoun, led by Algerian myrmidon Mokhtar Belmokhtar, and the Macina Brigades of central Mali: The Group to Support Islam and Moslems headed by Ansar Dine's Iyad Ag Ghaly. The other heads are now emirs, at least until clashing egos force a new formation...
while United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
' peacekeepers have been deployed to ensure Mali's stability.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
the U.N.'s forces have lacked equipment and resources, making a political settlement between Tuaregs and the government in Mali increasingly fragile and paving the way for Islamists and traffickers to exploit a void in the north of the country.
No doubt the UN forces have been doing their bit to increase fragility, given the habits of most of the contributors: corruption, s3xual exploitation, and a lack of fellow feeling for those outside their tribe.
"Our objective in the short-term is to help the regional armies control their territory, especially the fragile border zones," said the diplomat. "The grinding of the peace processor is not going fast enough even if there is a glimmer of hope."

French officials acknowledge that Gay Paree is likely to have to keep its forces in the region for an indefinite period.

Diplomats said Macron wanted to fine-tune policy to ensure countries were also given more help to develop rather than just focusing on security aspects.

With La Belle France shouldering the bulk of European military operations overseas, and in particular in Africa, officials said the trip would also be an opportunity to outline his desire for a greater European role, something that La Belle France has been pushing for years, but with few tangible results.

"The Franco-German engine must give Europe impetus to play a bigger role in crucial dossiers such as the African Sahel," the diplomat said.

Saudi Arabia confirms Yemen’s missile strike on Riyadh
[ALMASDARNEWS] Saudi activists on social media reported hearing sounds of kabooms in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, not so long after Sana’a government forces launched "Burkan-2" ballistic missile towards Riyadh this evening.

Local Yemeni news outlets cited a number of Saudi Twitter activists tweeting in Arabic language. al-Masdar News correspondent in Sana’a translated some of them:

Jassem bin Mohammed, a Saudi activist, posted on his Twitter page, "A huge kaboom shook Riyadh area before Trump’s visit amid panic, fear and rumours that this was a Yemeni ballistic missile, and it comes right before the arrival of the American guest [Trump], and this is the message they wanted to deliver to us."

"We have heard a sound that terrified residents in Riyadh," another columnist wrote. "A huge kaboom rocked the Saudi capital of Riyadh and a giant fire outbroke as result of a ballistic missile strike."

Earlier, Yemeni Army’s missile division based in Sana’a announced the launch of a ballistic missile type "Burkan-2" ("Vulcan-2") on the Saudi capital.

The Saudi-led coalition said later it had downed a Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. Mission in Somalia) base in the town of El Adde.

At sunrise, two vehicle-borne improvised bombs (VBIEDs) cleared the way for hundreds of jihadists to stream into the base. The Kenyan forces manning the facility were quickly outmatched.

later found that "150 Kenyan soldiers were killed during the attack, making it the largest military defeat in Kenyan history."

Not all of the Kenyan soldiers were killed. At least 11 of them, according to the UN, "were captured alive and subsequently held hostage in two separate groups by" Shabaab in the Middle Juba region of southern Somalia.

One of those Kenyan soldiers, Alfred Danyi Kilasi (seen obove), appeared in a Shabaab video released online earlier today ‐ more than 16 months after he was taken captive. The video, along with an English transcript, was produced by al-Kataib Foundation for Media, Shabaab’s propaganda arm.

"My name is Senior Private Alfred Danyi Kilasi," the Kenyan begins. "I was born in 1987 in Western Province, Vihiga County, Vigeena village. I joined the army on 10 October 2010 and after training, I was posted to Nenkea, Moi Barracks."

"On the 15th of January last year," Kilasi continues, "I remember vividly that while we were in El Adde, we were attacked by Al-Shabaab. They infiltrated our camp and took over our defense posts. We lost our comrades and we were captured as prisoners."

Shabaab has Kilasi criticize his own government and plead with the Kenyan people to intercede on his behalf.

"From that time up to now, we have been in captivity and have not received any report from our government," Kilasi says, as the camera zooms in on a "Kenya" patch on his uniform. "We have not received any kind of assistance. We are pleading with the Kenyan public to come together and find a solution for this dilemma that we are faced with. Right now, we have no one else to help us except you."

"I am pleading with the leaders in Kenya," Kilasi adds. "Where are you? We are suffering here in Somalia and are in dire need of your assistance. This is an election year and so we are pleading that before you go for elections, look for any means in which you can save us for we are your brethren."
