#2  President Trump started his discussion of the current financial situation -- including America stepping away from the Paris treaty at this time, though he is open to renegotiating the thing in the future -- by saying that our thoughts and prayers are with those who were attacked in the Philippines today. Terror is clearly one of his issues.

Trump Delays Moving American Embassy In Israel From Tel Aviv To Jerusalem
[Daily Caller] President Trump signed a waiver Thursday that delayed moving the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He was required to make a decision by Friday because a six-month waiver signed by President Obama was set to expire.

Trump signed the same waiver that every has president has signed twice a year since 1995 when a law was passed requiring the embassy to be located in Jerusalem. It will expire in six months, when the president will be faced with the decision of moving the embassy again.

Europe
Schulz to Trump: Dropping Paris agreement means no trade talks
Germany’s challenger for the chancellorship, Martin Schulz, vowed Thursday to retaliate against U.S. President Donald Trump’s potential withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement by refusing to engage in transatlantic trade talks.

Referring to trade negotiations with the U.S., which ran until the end of last year but are now on ice, Schulz said it would be impossible to grant better market access to the U.S. if it did not respect climate protection rules.

"If the U.S. drops out of the climate agreement ... for European trade policy, this means that American production sites don’t need to abide by the climate goals," said the Social Democratic candidate, who was speaking at the WDR Europa Forum in Berlin. "That is a competitive distortion against which we can only protect ourselves by saying: Whoever wants to have access to our market, and the European market is the biggest market in the world, needs to respect the European standards."
European standards are a joke. Also a bit of background from Stephen Green:
It's a damn good thing Germany has a trade surplus with us.

Let me explain why.

Germany is lacking in two things: Oil and the ability to print U.S. dollars.

Oil is priced in dollars, everywhere around the world. If you want to buy oil, you have to have dollars. If you want a modern economy, you have to have oil.

So if Germany is going to buy oil, they need to earn dollars from us. One good way to do that is to build cars superior to most of what comes out of American manufacturers, and to charge a premium for them.

This works well for Germany for a couple of reasons.

First, as an exporter Germany can't compete on unit volume. There are only so many imported cars U.S. consumers can buy or are willing to buy.

Second, German automakers can't compete on price. If you think American labor is expensive, check out German rates sometime. Also, to build those cars, Germany has to import a lot of raw materials and energy -- also priced in U.S. dollars.

So Germany sells fewer, higher-margin cars to Americans who want to buy them, in exchange for the dollars they need to keep their First World economy humming along. And a lot of those dollars end up right back here, too -- as foreign investments, an economic safe haven, etc.

And a little perspective is in order. Our trade deficit with Germany last year was about $65 billion -- about one-third of one percent of our GDP, or less than what Washington spends every six days. I don't know about you, but when I look at my tax receipts and I look at the services I actually get, I'm far more worried about my trade deficit with the IRS.

Oh, and our trade deficit with Germany isn't even as large as the official data suggest. BMW for one actually exports more American-made BMWs to the rest of the world than BMW imports from Germany to American buyers. (The same is true of Honda and Japanese imports, and may be true of other "foreign" automakers as well.) But BMW's exports from America don't get deducted from the tally of Germany's imports into America. We would cut off that trade to spite our face.

A little more perspective? The typical American family has a trade deficit with King Sooper or Albertson's of about 10% of every paycheck, but nobody seems to worry much about that, even though most of that money goes to corporate headquarters in entirely different states.

So what do we get out of trade with Germany? American consumers get more choices, American manufacturers get some much-needed (and in the case of Detroit, I do mean MUCH-needed) competition, Americans get jobs, and two wealthy countries with well-paid workers get to enjoy all the benefits of friendly trade.

So, Germany has a lot more to lose then we do by closing off their markets or getting into a trade war with the US.

#2  American manufacturers get some much-needed (and in the case of Detroit, I do mean MUCH-needed) competition

BS. When the oil embargo hit, it was the Japanese that was on board to give Detroit competition, not the Germans. It's the Japanese and now Koreans that are the competition, not the emission rigging Germans.

#3  Also - I thought trade agreements were run through the EU for member states?

#4  President Trump's statement was the opening of a negotiation. Instead of whining about how he hurt their feelings, if Chancellor Merkel came back with Stephen Green's explanation, the discussion would be very different. But they've just been trying to bully him into signing on to their Paris agreement, the one President Obama so grandiosely signed with his presidential pen without submitting to the Senate for approval, and a great many insulting things have been said by all and sundry over there -- "he acted like a drunken tourist" not being the worst of it.

It won't do anyone any real harm to maintain the status quo for a year -- unchanging conditions make corporate planning easier, and allows all parties time to figure out what they really want and are willing to pay for it.

Total annihilation: Mattis maps out the path ahead against ISIS
[Military Times] WASHINGTON — The Pentagon's approach to defeating the Islamic State is now defined as merciless annihilation, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Friday, summarizing what's become a more aggressive effort in Syria, Iraq and beyond to prevent the group's foreign fighters specifically from escaping its strongholds once local allies have them cornered.

"The foreign fighters are the strategic threat should they return home to Tunis, to Kuala Lumpur, to Paris, to Detroit. Wherever," Mattis said. "By taking the time to deconflict, to surround and then attack, we carry out the annihilation campaign so we don't simply transplant this problem from one location to another."

More feel-good bullsh*t from people who don't have our best interests at heart. As I understand, "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" was a legal principle that punishment must be proportional to the offense. And it was civil law, not war.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
New Surprise Suspect in Obama Spy Scandal
[WND] WASHINGTON ‐ The inquiry into whether the Obama administration spied on the Trump campaign and transition team has a new surprise suspect: former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power.

The House Intelligence Committee announced Wednesday it was submitting subpoenas as part of its ongoing investigation into any Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential election campaign, and sources gave more details to the Wall Street Journal.

Buried inside the paper’s account was a potentially bombshell development: The committee is seeking information from the FBI, CIA and NSA on unmasking requests made by Power.
Power was likely a cutout. Like fellow Obama political appointee Susan Rice, she performed a function for the Shadow Gov't. The data went elsewhere.
Unmasking is the revealing of names within the intelligence community of U.S. citizens gathered in foreign surveillance.

The new subpoena immediately raises the question: Why would Power be seeking such information?

Why would a diplomat care about Trump officials?

It would hardly seem to have any obvious relevance to her job as U.N. ambassador.

She was, however, a close confidant of President Obama, and she served him as a foreign-policy adviser when he was a senator.

And members of the intelligence committee have previously shown concern about Obama officials unmasking Trump associates.

Sources told Fox News that Power’s role is now under increasing scrutiny by the intelligence committee.

Congress Just Defied Obama's Shadow Government, Obama's Thugs Are Going Down
[Angry Patriot] The Obama administration has proven time and time again that they are dishonest crooks. It looks like his "shadow government" is finally going to meet their match!

According to the Wall Street Journal, Congress is now putting a full investigation forward to find out who all was involved with the "unmasking" of President Trump and his associates during the transition. Congress is taking this case SERIOUSLY. Obama and his cronies, like Susan Rice, better run for cover. Three subpoenas have been issued so far, and we are expecting to see more.

It is a sad attempt at a setup. Susan Rice, Obama, and the rest of their friends went out of their way to get information from President Trump and his associates via wiretapping. Susan Rice ILLEGALLY leaked information to the press, causing havoc and distrust in our system.

The left wants nothing more than to see President Trump fail, but it isn’t going to happen. Trump is going to work with Congress to weed out these traitors. The American people don’t deserve this!

The patriots of this country deserve a political system that doesn’t commit shady, backdoor acts, like Obama and company. The past eight years have been horrific.

It is going to take a lot of work to get our country back to one-hundred percent, but President Trump is on the right track. He is working to secure our borders and keep people that would harm us OUT!

'This is not OK': Navratilova renews call to rename Margaret Court Arena
[Guardian] Martina Navratilova has stepped up her call to rename Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne in an escalating row with her fellow former world No1, who said this week that tennis is "full of lesbians" and that transgender children were the work of "the devil".

Court, the 74-year-old Australian tennis champion turned pastor, also claimed that an Australian programme tackling homophobic bullying in schools was the work of a "gay lobby" that was trying to "get [into] the minds of children".

Czech-American Navratilova, who married her long-term partner Julia Lemigova in 2014, has led calls for the Australian Open court to be renamed following Court’s comments. "We celebrate free speech, but that doesn’t mean it is free of consequences ‐ not punishment, but consequences," Navratilova, an 18-time Grand Slam champion, wrote in an open letter published by Fairfax Media.

"We should not be celebrating this kind of behaviour, this kind of philosophy. The platform people like Margaret Court use needs to be made smaller, not bigger."

Bilderberg 2017: Secret meeting of globalists could prove a problem for Trump
[Guardian] The storm around Donald Trump is about to shift a few miles west of the White House, to a conference centre in Chantilly, Virginia, where the embattled president will be getting his end-of-term grades from the people whose opinion really matters: Bilderberg.

The secretive three-day summit of the political and economic elite kicks off on Thursday in heavily guarded seclusion at the Westfields Marriot, a luxury hotel a short distance from the Oval Office. The hotel was already on lockdown on Wednesday, and an army of landscapers have been busy planting fir trees around the perimeter, to protect coy billionaires and bashful bank bosses from any prying lenses.

Perched ominously at the top of the conference agenda this year are these words: "The Trump Administration: A progress report". Is the president going to be put in detention for tweeting in class? Held back a year? Or told to empty his locker and leave? If ever there’s a place where a president could hear the words "you’re fired!", it’s Bilderberg.

The White House is taking no chances, sending along some big hitters from Team Trump to defend their boss: the national security adviser, HR McMaster; the commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross; and Trump’s new strategist, Chris Liddell. Could the president himself show up to receive his report card in person?

Henry Kissinger, the gravel-throated kingpin of Bilderberg, visited Trump at the White House a few weeks ago to discuss "Russia and other things", and certainly, the Bilderberg conference would be the perfect opportunity for the most powerful man in the world to discuss important global issues with Trump.

White House Acts to Roll Back Birth-Control Mandate for Religious Employers
[NYT] WASHINGTON -- Federal officials, following through on a pledge by President Trump, have drafted a rule to roll back a federal requirement that many religious employers provide birth control coverage in health insurance plans.

The mandate for free contraceptive coverage was one of the most hotly contested Obama administration policies adopted under the Affordable Care Act, and it generated scores of lawsuits by employers that had religious objections to it.

On its website, the White House Office of Management and Budget said it is reviewing an "interim final rule" to relax the requirement, a step that would all but ensure a court challenge by women’s rights groups.

Mr. Trump signaled a change in direction on May 4, when he issued an executive order instructing three cabinet departments to consider amended regulations to "address conscience-based objections to the preventive-care mandate." The order cites a section of the Affordable Care Act that refers specifically to preventive services for women.

It is imperative we begin emulating the left in its tactics.

A couple of years ago, I suggested a completely different strategy: I wanted to pursue a kinder path. I wanted an end to the speech wars and social media mobs and boycotts and all the rest of it.

But that path has been tried, and it has failed. Passive resistance -- moral resistance -- can only work when dealing with opponents with morality and honor, or who, at least, see you as more than subhuman.

...watch this video of the Empowered Mob demanding more firings at Evergreen college last week, and tell me the path of merely condemning mob lunacy is having any effect at all.

The Empowered, Privileged Mob demanded -- demanded! -- that white people absent themselves from their space, and this is what happened to those who said, "No, that's racist, and teaching class is my job."

...Leftist students cannot be taught anything -- they now routinely scream at professors (you know, the people they're allegedly paying to learn from) that they must SHUT UP AND LISTEN. They come to the university already knowing all there is to know, and in fact are only present to teach their professors; one wonders, then, why it isn't the students being paid, and the professors paying tuition to learn their collective, shouty, expletive-filled wisdom.

...If you're a sadist, and an insecure individual with little credit to his name, you can build yourself up into a Social Justice War-Fighter by constantly attacking others and making them miserable and afraid.

...Do they ever actually suffer for their own choices? Do they ever experience a setback larger than just not getting their way, this week?

No.

And it's time for that to change.

If a sadistic, insecure, submediocre individual enjoys tormenting those he deems enemies, like a child who enjoys pulling the wings off flies, he will not stop -- ever -- unless he is made to feel the same pain himself.

We intended that by passively resisting, they would see us as showing moral courage and would learn from us that ceaseless violence and bullying and collectivized political campaigns run against everyday citizens pursuing no public office are wrong.

But they didn't learn that.

What our self-restraint has taught them is quite the opposite--when we refuse to fight back, they take that as signalling that deep down, we know they're right and that we are the monsters, and thus, our refusal to engage them in the fight they've started does not prove our moral rightness, but instead our moral corruption.

We think: We are showing them a better way by acting in a manner that is morally superior.

They infer: They are submitting to us as if they are our inferiors, therefore they must know that they are in fact our inferiors.

The most important thing to understand about the left: whether it's Ghetto youts rioting in the streets, or professors in the most prestigious universities; they are dumb barbs who neither understand, nor like, the civilization that we've build - they just want to loot it.

"They need to GRILL this SOB on all of his memos!" – Mark Levin on Comey testifying next week
[Right Scoop] They need to grill this SOB. They need to grill this SOB about all of his memos. All of them! They need to find out if this man held information and prior testimony before the House and Senate intelligence committees, as well as the judiciary committees. We need to know if this man kept ’book’ like a mobster, in my humble opinion, on other officials to whom he reported, so he could hold those memos over their heads too ‐ just in case!

It’s not enough to ask for just the memos involving Trump. They need all of his memos! They belong to the federal government which means they belong to Congress which means they belong to us.

The True Feminist Message: Don't Hire Women
h/t Instapundit
Hello, Western employers!

As you may have noticed, today's feminist activists have a great deal to say about how women are and should be treated in the workforce. And yes, I understand how difficult it can be to sift through their rhetoric and tease out exactly what you, as an employer, are expected to do. Fortunately, I think I've finally managed to figure out their underlying message: Don't hire women.

I know how bizarre this must seem. After all, feminists claim to be looking out for women's best interests. And yet, in presuming to speak for all of us, these activists have managed to paint our distaff sex in a very unappealing light. Indeed, if feminists are to be accepted as our spokeswomen and exemplars, the following must be true:

Women don't understand math or science.

...Women are uneducable -- especially by men.

...Women expect to advance in their chosen profession regardless of the quality of their work.

...Women will be unable to work several days out of every month.

...Women will complain about trivial inconveniences and will expect your workplace to constantly cater to their desires.

...Okay: So we all know that none of the above statements are actually true of all women. Most women want to live by the same exact rules that govern men and don't want to be treated as delicate, wilting flowers -- either in the workplace or anywhere else. And that's why, as of this moment, only a small percentage of Western women are actually willing to embrace the feminist label. They understand what feminists are really implying -- and they rightfully resent it.

Illinois Seeks 20 Percent 'Privilege Tax' on Financial Advisers
[PJ] The word "privilege" is starting to cause a visceral reaction in me. Class warfare is alive and well, legalizing theft is an increasingly popular idea, and criminalizing expertise is called "progressive."

The state of Illinois is considering a whopping 20 percent "privilege tax" on financial advice:

The Illinois bill would put a 20% levy on fees earned by investment advisers. It passed the state Senate in a 32-24 vote Tuesday, and backers are hoping to get it through the House before the legislative session ends May 31.

The new tax is pitched as a way to squeeze more revenue -- as much as $1.7 billion a year -- from hedge funds and private-equity firms, which purportedly get off easy on their federal taxes because of the "carried interest loophole." But under the current version of the bill, Illinois would keep collecting the privilege tax even if Congress were to cease taxing carried interest at the lower capital-gains rate.

Tesla CEO threatens to quit Trump biz council if US leaves Paris deal
[The Hill] Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk says he will quit President Trump's business advisory council if the U.S. leaves the Paris climate agreement.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, sits on the President’s Strategic and Policy Council of business executives.

Reports on Wednesday said that Trump is planning to pull the U.S. out of the Paris accords.

Musk tweeted that he has tried to convince Trump to say in the climate pact. And he added that he would have no choice but to quit the president's business advisory group, if Trump went ahead and left.

That's not counting state and local subsidies (I'm looking at you California who doesn't have the infrastructure to support mass produced electric cars).

#3  Tesla and Its Subsidies
Less well-known are the hidden subsidies that flow directly to Tesla, thanks to “zero-emission vehicle” (ZEV) credits. ZEV credits are a mandate dreamed up by the bureaucrats at the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which requires manufacturers to build and dealers to sell an arbitrary number of “zero-emission” vehicles each year. (Note that these vehicles are actually “zero-emission” only in the unlikely event that the electricity used by the car comes from a zero-emission source — which, of course, would also be heavily subsidized.)

Tesla’s Model S generates four credits per unit sold. This means the company can sell $20,000 in ZEV credits to other manufacturers for each Model S sold — a cost borne by purchasers of other cars.

And that amount used to be even higher. Because ZEV law is so arcane, Tesla was able to game the system for additional credits; for example, it was able to generate an additional three credits per vehicle when it demonstrated to CARB that its batteries could theoretically be rapidly swapped. But in fact the battery-swapping pilot program is more than a year late getting started. Nonetheless, those extra credits netted the company an additional $15,000 per car sold — and the company is now trying to get them reinstated.

In 2013, ZEV credits to Tesla totaled $129.8 million — to a company that lost $61.3 million for the year on its actual manufacturing and selling operations.

In 2014, Nevada lavished the company with one of the biggest corporate-welfare packages in history: In exchange for building a battery-manufacturing facility near Reno, Tesla will pay no payroll or property taxes for ten years and no sales taxes for 20 years, and will receive $195 million in cash via “transferable tax credits,” which can be sold to other companies to satisfy their Nevada tax bills. All of this amounts to a $1.3 billion giveaway.

With lawsuits pending, Trump moves to cut refugee admissions
US President Donald Trump is moving to significantly reduce the number of refugees allowed to enter the United States, even as his bid to temporarily suspend admissions is stalled in the courts. The latest effort comes through Trump's federal budget proposal, which calls for a 25 percent cut in funds for resettling refugees on American soil.

If approved by Congress, the 2018 budget blueprint would lower overall refugee funding to $2.7 billion from $3.1 billion--a 13 percent drop. That includes US contributions to international aid groups helping refugees in other countries.

But the funds specifically earmarked for US refugee admissions would face a steeper reduction, to $410 million from $544.7 million as recently as 2016.

Sununu Confronts CNN on Coverage of Trump-Russia Investigation: ‘How Much Crow Are You Going to Eat?'
[Breitbart] Tuesday on CNN’s "New Day," former chief of staff to President George H. W. Bush and former Gov. John H. Sununu (R-NH) pushed back against CNN’s coverage of the Trump-Russia investigation in an interview with co-host Alisyn Camerota.

Partial transcript as follows:

CAMEROTA: Is there anything about the Russian -- investigation connected to the Trump campaign that troubles you?

SUNUNU: Yeah, but the reporting that’s taking place and the exaggeration of the venality and the suggestion -- look, it’s now seven months since the election, and to this day, no one has cited a single piece of evidence. In your last segment, you guys were patting yourselves on the back because you said Clapper had passed the responsibility off to the FBI. But you forget that in the last weeks of the administration, Obama allowed all his intelligence agencies to share their information. And there is no question in my mind that when that happen since Clapper’s group had originated this, that anything the FBI had would have gone back to Clapper. So it is nice for Capper to try and wash his hands of it by throwing it in the FBI’s lap, but he had access in those days to whatever the FBI had. There is nothing there.

About that Malaysia Airlines incident yesterday
I came across this after midnight, or I'd have added it as an update yesterday.
[DailyMail] Passengers on board a Melbourne flight 'hijacked' by a man claiming to have a bomb have described the heroic moment two young Australian men tackled the 'lunatic' Sri Lankan national to the floor and hogtied him until special operations police arrived.

Former AFL star Andrew Leoncelli was on board the Malaysia Airline flight MH128, travelling to Kualu Lumpur, when the man threatened to 'blow the f***ing plane up'.

Mr Leoncelli, who was sitting four rows from the front of the plane in business class, said he confronted the man who was holding a 'huge, metallic object with two antennas'.

'I could hear this idiot saying he wanted to go in and see the pilot,' the ex-Melbourne FC Demons player told 3AW radio.

'Staff were saying "Sit back down, sit back down" and he said: "No, I’m not going to sit down, I’m going to blow the plane up".'

'I said, "Mate, what are you effing doing?" And he said, "I'm going to blow the f***ing plane up". And I was going, "Oh my god, he's f***ing insane

The Malaysian Government claimed the suspicious object the man was holding was likely a powerbank used to charge mobile phones.

'It is believed that the suspect is a Sri Lankan national, and that he was drunk,' Malaysia's Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Seri Aziz Ab Kaprawi told The Star.

Victoria Police confirmed that the man, a 25-year-old from Dandenong, had a history of mental health [issues] and did not have an bomb.

He was jugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!

Trump hits another home run, hails deals worth 'billions' with Vietnam
[Reuters] U.S. President Donald Trump talked trade with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc during a White House visit on Wednesday and welcomed the signing of business deals worth billions of dollars and the jobs they would create.

The U.S. Commerce Department announced 13 new transactions with Vietnam worth $8 billion, including $3 billion worth of U.S.-produced content that would support more than 23,000 American jobs.

These include deals for General Electric Co (GE.N) worth $5.58 billion for power generation, aircraft engines and services, its largest-ever combined sale in Vietnam.

Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N) and its dealer in Vietnam also agreed to provide generator management technology for more than 100 generators in Vietnam, the company said.

"They (Vietnam) just made a very large order in the United States - and we appreciate that - for many billions of dollars, which means jobs for the United States and great, great equipment for Vietnam," Trump told reporters at the White House.

The Commerce Department estimate of the deals was considerably less than the $15 billion figure given by Phuc during a speech at the Heritage Foundation, adding that most of the total involved the import of U.S. equipment.

The Commerce Department estimate of the deals was considerably less than the $15 billion figure given by Phuc during a speech at the Heritage Foundation, adding that most of the total involved the import of U.S. equipment.

Communist Vietnam has gone from being a Cold War enemy to an important partner for the United States in the Asia-Pacific, where both countries share concerns about China's rising power.

Phuc told Trump the relationship had undergone "significant upheavals in history" but that the two countries were now "comprehensive partners."

Phuc's meeting with Trump makes him the first Southeast Asian leader to visit the White House under the new administration.

Top Saudi cleric slams preachers who approve music & singing
[RT] The Grand Mufti of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdullah Al ash-Sheikh, said that the Moslem preachers who have been recently approving singing and listening to music by worshipers were being insubordinate, local media report.

Abdul Aziz Al ash-Sheikh said that such "recalcitrant" preachers went against their own convictions, by changing their stance after decades of banning music.

The Grand Mufti also criticized preachers who used fictional stories in their sermons and in advising their flock.

"We have the book of God (the Koran), it’s enough and there is no need for such fairy tales," he said, as cited by Okaz daily.

According to the Grand Mufti, the Moslem faith "strictly forbids" such things as listening to music and singing.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
some Saudi preachers have been recently insisting that the ban on music in Islam was questionable.

Last year, the imam of Quba Mosque in Madinah, Sheikh Saleh al-Maghamsi, said that Saudi Arabia ‐ where concerts have been outlawed for decades ‐ was "in bad need of novelty and modernization."

"As for music, three Moslem scholars have said different things," Maghamsi ‐ who believes that only singing, but not music, should be banned ‐ was cited by Arab News.

The Saudi General Entertainment Authority has been pushing for relaxing the strict Sharia rules in the country.

In his interview with Rooters in April, the Authority’s head, Ahmed al-Khatib, said that Riyadh could be transformed "99 percent" to look like London or New York.

In March, live music has made its comeback to the Saudi capital with renowned Arab singers, Rashed al-Majed and Mohammed Abdu, performing in Saudi Arabia for the first time since the 1980s.

The entertainment authority’s primary goal was the reintroduction of cinemas across Saudi Arabia, Khatib said.

, which has repeatedly been highlighted by European leaders as a funding source for Islamist krazed killers, and may prove politically and legally sensitive, the Guardian reports.

The UK has close ties with Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Theresa May visited the country earlier this year.

In January 2016, a specialist Home Office unit was directed by Downing Street to investigate sources of overseas funding of krazed killer groups in the UK. The findings were to be shown to Cameron’s then-Home Secretary May.

Eighteen months later, however, the Home Office told the Guardian the report had not been completed and would not necessarily be published, calling the contents "very sensitive."

A decision on the future of the investigation would be taken "after the election by the next government," a spokesperson said.

Cameron was urged to launch an investigation in December 2015 as part of a deal with the Liberal Democrats in exchange for the party supporting the extension of British Arclight airstrikes against Islamic State

Black Lives Matter awarded a global peace prize
[CIRCA] The Black Lives Matter movement will receive a global peace prize from the Sydney Peace Foundation
...according to their website, "The Sydney Peace Foundation was founded in 1998 to promote public interest in peace, justice and universal human rights. It is a not-for-profit organisation at the University of Sydney and is supported by the City of Sydney."
at a ceremony in Sydney in November, Newsweek reported.
Newsweek still exists? I really must pay more attention.
The award will specifically highlight the work of the founding leaders of the activist network, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi.

Past honorees of the award include South African civil rights activist Desmond Tutu, philosopher Noam Chomsky, and former Irish President Mary Robinson.
..conventional SJW choices who have furthered various kinds of evil in the world...
"This is the first time that a movement and not a person has been awarded the peace prize -- a timely choice," the Sydney Peace Foundation said when announcing the award. "Climate change is escalating fast, increasing inequality and racism are feeding divisiveness, and we are in the middle of the worst refugee crisis since World War II. Yet many establishment leaders across the world stick their heads in the sand or turn their backs on justice, fairness and equality."

7 Kenyan police officers, 1 civilian killed in bombing in south; 4 police, 1 civilian killed in north
[Ynet] Seven Kenyan coppers and a civilian died Wednesday when their armored personnel vehicle ran over an improvised bomb in an attack claimed by the al-Qaeda-linked Death Eater group al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
A police report seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named said the vehicle with the Rural Patrol Border Unit in Mangai in southern Kenya had been going to refuel when the bomb went kaboom!.

Kenyan army personnel tried to rescue the officers and came under fire from suspected al-Shabaab Death Eaters, the report said.

Seven coppers were in the vehicle, but only five bodies were found, the report said. Three bodies were later recovered in the area, the report said.

Al-Shabaab claimed killing seven officers in the incident, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors Death Eater groups.

Roadside bomb targeting police kills five in Kenya's north coast

[Ynet] Four coppers and a civilian were killed on Wednesday and two more police are missing after their truck hit a landmine on a road along Kenya's northern coast, a police report said.

The vehicle was heading towards Mokowe, near the popular island resort of Lamu, according to the report, filed at Kiunga cop shoppe in Lamu.

"KDF (Kenya Defence Forces) officers responded and when they reached the scene they found four bodies in uniform and another body in civilian clothes," the report said.

Bipartisan Bill to Bar U.S. Funds to Afghanistan Would Lead to Government Collapse
[FREEBEACON] A bipartisan bill aiming to cut funding for the war in Afghanistan would severely destabilize the nation's security environment, particularly amid a Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
resurgence, according to regional experts.

Anthony Cordesman, the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said a withdrawal of U.S. funds to Kabul would signal the inevitable collapse of the Afghan government to myrmidon groups and regional powers such as Russia and Iran.

"This [legislation] would be essentially telling the entire region, as well as Death Eaters and bad boys, that the Afghan government has no practical chance at surviving," Cordesman told the Washington Free Beacon. "What would happen is the entire modern sector of the economy, which is heavily dependent on outside aid, would collapse. You're not talking about the country breaking up, you're talking about the country imploding."

The measure, introduced in March by Reps. Walter Jones (R., N.C.) and John Garamendi (D., Calif.), would prohibit the United States from providing money to efforts in Afghanistan beginning in October 2019. The American embassy and intelligence gathering activities would be the only two entities exempted from the ban.

The bill has nine cosponsors--three Republicans and six Democrats--and is largely intended to force a floor debate on the U.S. end goals and whether Washington should continue engagement in Afghanistan.

‘Crassly stupid’ Corbyn would lose Falklands if elected, warn ‘queasy’ veterans
[RT] The British commander who led the 1982 task force to the Falkland Islands says he is deeply concerned about the impact a Labour government could have on the security of the South Atlantic islands.

Major General Julian Thompson, the Royal Marines officer who led Britannia’s successful military operation against Argentine forces, believes Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party presents a real risk to the security of the islanders.

The Labour leader apparently once called the war, which cost 255 British lives, "a nauseating waste of money and lives" and "one of those crazy conflicts of flag-waving nonsense."

"I felt irritated, to put it mildly," Thompson told the Times.

"Here is a chap who sets himself up as a socialist, and presumably therefore anti-fascist, who was prepared to see British people consigned to spending their lives under the rule of a fascist junta," he said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey backed Syrian rebels attack Iska
[ARA News] Syrian Islamist fighters of the Ahrar al-Sham group on Wednesday launched an offensive on the Kurdish town of Iska in Afrin district, northwest of Aleppo province, causing casualties among civilians.

“Supported by Turkey’s military, Ahrar al-Sham militants attacked Iska town in the Shirawa sub-district in Afrin with mortar shells,” local media activist Hember Kusa told ARA News.

Turkish artillery supported the offensive by firing dozens of shells on the town, which is held by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

“The heavy bombardment by the Turkish army and Ahrar al-Sham led to the destruction of several residential buildings,” Kusa reported.

At least seven civilians lost their lives and more than a dozen were injured in the attack.

This while local rescue teams continued their search for victims under the rubble.

In response to the attack, Kurdish YPG fighters hit strongholds of Ahrar al-Sham group in Darat Izza district near Afrin.

“Our forces destroyed three of Ahrar al-Sham’s vehicles and several machine guns in the operation in retaliation for the victims of Iska town,” a YPG officer told ARA News.

The office added that the clashes between their fighters and Turkey-backed Ahrar al-Sham continued until the midnight on Wednesday.

The Darat Izza district has recently turned into a main base for the Turkish army and allied Syrian rebels in Aleppo province, from which they have launched repeated attacks on the YPG-held Afrin district.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Chemical linked detonation likely caused Kursk sinking
Conspiracy theories regarding the sinking of the Kursk are rife on the Russian Internet. Many allege that nearby American attack submarines sank the Kursk with Mark 48 torpedoes. While technically possible (in absence of the evidence of an internal torpedo explosion) there is no remotely plausible motive for such an attack during a period of good U.S.-Russian relations. Why attack the Kursk? Why was only the Kursk sunk, and not the Kuznetsov and Pyotr Velikiy? Why would the Russian government cover up the attack?

In the end, the sinking of the Kursk appears to have been caused by a simple, freak accident of chemistry. The tragedy only reinforces how dangerous life aboard a submarine really is, and how important safety is in the underwater realm. Finally, the rush to conspiracy is a warning that, had this incident occurred during a genuine crisis, such an accident could cause a dangerous escalation that could lead to war.

In 2000, a Russian submarine designed to sink aircraft carriers became a victim of its own arsenal. The cruise-missile submarine Kursk suffered a massive explosion and sank after an onboard torpedo accidentally detonated. The accident was the worst naval disaster suffered by post–Cold War Russia.

Clinton: Russian Hacking Had To Be ‘Guided by Americans,' Might Have Been Trump
[Breitbart] Wednesday in Ranchos Palos Verdes, CA at the annual Code Conference, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said the barrage of "fake news" and hacked emails released during the 2016 presidential campaign had to have been from the Russians and "guided by Americans."
You remember, it's the 'Right Wing Conspiracy' thingy.
Clinton said, "I think it’s fair to ask, how did that actually influence the campaign, and how did they know what messages to deliver? Who told them? Who were they coordinating with, and colluding with?"

Clinton continued, "The Russians in my opinion -- and based on intelligence and counterintelligence people I have talked to -- could not have known best how to weaponize that information unless they had been guided...Guided by Americans."
Talking to John Brennan I take it? He's certainly an expert on the 'weaponization' of bullshi*.
When asked if she believed the campaign of President Donald Trump could have been involved she said, "Yes, I am leaning Trump. I think it’s pretty hard not to."

Lewandowski To Republicans: Get On Trump Train or Lose Next Election
[Real Clear Politics] Corey Lewandowski warns Congressional Republicans to support President Trump or risk losing their seat in the next election. Lewandowski tells Republicans if you don't get on the Trump train and support the president's agenda, "you have failed the American people."
'Winning' brings with it the responsibility of working hard, accomplishing difficult tasks, and making things happen. I'm not at all certain they're up to it. Sitting back and endlessly carping is much easier.
From his appearance on Wednesday's FOX & Friends:

COREY LEWANDOWSKI, FORMER TRUMP CAMPAIGN MANAGER: President Trump was elected to change the country. And you can get on board that train or you can lose your next election, because - I can promise you this - the Democrats have a different agenda...

It's my recommendation to those Republicans in Congress to get on board, get the final conclusion done on the repeal and replace of ObamaCare, get the massive tax cut - the largest tax cut in the history of our country - get that done, get the infrastructure done, get the wall built. If you do those things, you will get reelected. If you don't do those things, it's because you have failed the American people.

Four army personnel killed during anti-terrorist campaign in Egypt's Western Desert: Army
[AlAhram] Three army officers and a soldier were killed on Wednesday during an army operation against Lions of Islam in the Western Desert's Bahariya Oasis, the military said.

The attack took place as troops were carrying out a raid against bandidos bully boyz in the region after air forces conducted reconnaissance in the area, the army said in a statement on Wednesday.

The military personnel were killed after "an explosives belt belonging to bandidos bully boyz blew up while land troops were combing the area," the army statement said.

During the operation, army forces destroyed two 4x4 vehicles carrying terrorists.

The Egyptian army has been conducting operations in the Western Desert to stop the infiltration of Lions of Islam or the smuggling of weapons through the Egyptian-Libyan border.

Soddy Kops hit in IED detonation in al-Awamiya
Dammam- A police patrol was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED) in al-Awamiya, leaving two security officials injured and causing damages to the vehicle.

The terrorist act happened two weeks after a security armored vehicle was targeted with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG).

Security Spokesman of the Saudi Ministry of Interior Major General Mansour al-Turki has said that “further to the statement issued on May 16 on the martyrdom of a security man and the injury of five others as a result of their patrol being hit by an RPG while performing their duties in maintaining the public order in the surrounding area of al-Masoura neighborhood in Qatif Governorate, a security patrol was attacked by an IED on Monday while it was carrying out its tasks near the roundabout of the Rif neighborhood in al-Awamiya in Qatif.”

The blast resulted in the injury of two security men who were taken to hospital.

“The security authorities have launched an investigation into that terrorist crime, which is still under security follow-up,” the spokesman added.

Turki told Asharq Al-Awsat that these terrorists are carrying out what they are told to do from abroad, including staying in abandoned houses in the neighborhood of al-Masoura and using them to store weapons and explosives, which constitute a very serious threat to the lives of citizens and residents.

In early November 2016, the Interior Ministry added Mahmoud Ali Abdullah to its wanted list, which includes eight other individuals wanted by Saudi security.

Pelosi: 'The Holy Month of Ramadan is a Sacred Time for Peaceful Study’
That's what ISIS and the Taliban believe, too. They just define peaceful study differently.
[CNSNEWS] Here is the minority leader’s full statement:

"The Holy Month of Ramadan is a sacred time for peaceful study and contemplation, an opportunity for spiritual renewal and a call for leading lives of greater compassion and generosity. This month is also a special occasion of joy, festivity and celebration with loved ones.

"Ramadan reminds us of the rich diversity of our nation, and of the many contributions that Moslems have made to our country as public servants, members of our Armed Services, scholars, artists, athletes and engaged citizens. This month recalls our founding creed ‐ ’E Pluribus Unum’ ‐ and reaffirms the fundamental truth that in our nation’s diversity, we find strength.

"As we begin this blessed month, millions are observing Ramadan under the scourges of war, poverty and persecution. At home, the dangerous, discriminatory Moslem and refugee ban slams the door in Moslems’ faces and dishonors our deepest values as a nation. In a time marked by a shameful rise in hateful attitudes toward Moslem Americans, let us affirm the duty of all Americans to speak out against bigotry and to uphold the dignity of all. May this Ramadan bring the blessings of joy, peace and wisdom. Ramadan Kareem."

‘Catastrophic avalanche of collisions’: Space junk can destroy satellites, scientists say
[RT] At least 170 million pieces of rapidly-moving space junk are now circulating in Earth’s orbit and this debris may even lead to a "catastrophic avalanche of collisions" and destroy all working satellites and even threaten economies, scientists said.
Some people have no idea how big a globe of twenty five thousand miles diameter is (196.9 million mi² just off the top of Google's head.) The fact that satellites have to be positioned up from the surface adds another couple or three hundred miles. So that's space for how many satellites, boys and girls, assuming each gets a square mile of overhead room?
"The space junk problem has been getting worse every year," head of Australia's Space Environment Research Centre, Ben Greene, told AFP.
"Terrible! Just terrible!"
Some 170 million pieces of debris or ’space junk’ are currently orbiting Earth and only 22,000 are tracked, said Greene, who’s currently hosting a conference among international space scientists in Canberra.
There have been about 8000 man made objects launched into space - only a handful left Earth orbit. Some have decayed and reentered. There are about 3000 satellites currently in orbit. Of course, that's just Google's opinion and you know how they lie.
"We're losing three or four satellites a year now to space debris collision. We're very close, NASA estimates, of within five to 10 years of losing everything," Greene said, adding that "a catastrophic avalanche of collisions which could quickly destroy all orbiting satellites is now possible."
"And then three thousand satellites and 170 million other rocks and bits of dust and dust rags and buckets and mops will fall on our heads!"

Some people have no idea how big "up" is, possibly because it's unimaginably big, possibly because they're dumb.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
SCOTUS to hear Ohio voter purge case
[AMERICANTHINKER] Civil liberties advocates who challenged Ohio's policy said it illegally erased voters from registration rolls and unlawfully disenfranchised minorities and poor people who tend to back Democratic candidates. The justices will review a U.S. appeals court ruling that Ohio's policy ran afoul of a 1993 law called the National Voter Registration Act, which Congress passed to make it easier for Americans to register to vote.

A Rooters analysis last year found that in Ohio's three largest counties, which include Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone,
...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ...
, Cincinnati and Columbus, voters were struck from the rolls in Democratic-leaning neighborhoods at roughly twice the rate as in Republican neighborhoods under the policy.
Could it be that in Democratic neighbourhoods there are more imaginary voters, multiply-registered voters, and no longer resident because moved or dead voters?
Ohio officials argued that canceling registrations for voters deemed inactive for six years helped keep voting rolls current and accurate, clearing out those who have moved away or died. In September 2016, ahead of the U.S. presidential election, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati ruled that the policy was unlawful.

Democrats have accused Republicans of taking steps at the state level, including laws imposing new requirements on voters such as presenting certain types of government-issued identification, intended to suppress the vote of minorities, the poor and others who generally favor Democratic candidates.

#4  With you Proc. Purge the rolls and require any voter registrations to come in in person with photo ID and proof of citizenship. The only exception are those who are physically unable to come in - and for them a agent goes out to their home - ID and proof still required.
If they are too lazy or stupid to come in then they probably should not be allowed to vote anyway - since they obviously are too lazy/stupid to research the issues.
Oh and you forfit your right to vote if you are on unearned government assistance (that is welfare, etc..). No - you cannot simply vote yourself more money.

Illinois Purges Social Workers And Foster Families Who Don’t ‘Facilitate’ Transgenderism
[THEFEDERALIST] The science-deniers are running the LGBTQ show over at the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and dissenters will not be tolerated.

The department’s new "enhanced" policies promoting the "well-being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) children and youth in the Department’s care" ratchet in one direction only: encouraging children towards LGBTQ identities. DCFS has drawn a rainbow-colored line in the sand, announcing it "will not tolerate exposing LGBTQ children and youth to staff/providers who are not supportive of children and youths’ right to self-determination of sexual/gender identity."

Let’s repeat that: the state of Illinois will not tolerate "exposing" the vulnerable children in its care to people who believe human beings are either male or female and cannot "become" the other. No matter that sexual difference is a scientific fact, or that billions of sane people across the world acknowledge it.

Illinois has decreed its own "truth" about the human person and served notice that it will muzzle the speech and religious beliefs of employees, caregivers, professionals, and cooperating agencies who think otherwise.

John Boehner walks back Trump 'disaster' remarks
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Former House Speaker John It is not pronounced 'Boner!' Boehner
... the occasionally weepy former leader of House Republicans...
walked back comments from last week where he called the Trump presidency's opening months a "complete disaster," and claimed he was talking about the execution of his agenda rather than his policies.

"Let me address this because some people have gotten carried away in their interpretation of what I said. Listen, Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
is my friend. He was my supporter. I play golf with him and frankly I like the president. I voted for him. I want him and frankly I want the country to succeed," Boehner said of his comments last week. "But I've seen some people write -- I think they've gotten a little carried away in their interpretation of what I said."

"I did not say that the president's policies were a disaster. I did not say that the president's agenda was a disaster," he said in an address before the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers Employee Leadership Forum in Colorado Springs. "What I was referring to was the execution of the president's agenda and the president's policies. And frankly I think there have been a number of missteps, unforced errors that the president has made and I think the White House would agree that they've had their share of mistakes as the president learns to be the president."

89 rebels killed in Marawi, fierce showdown expected
[AFP] Philippine troops have killed 89 Islamist rebels during more than a week of urban clashes but a final showdown is expected to be ferocious as the gunmen protect their leaders and hold hostages.

On Wednesday morning, attack helicopters fired rockets into parts of Marawi that were still controlled by the militants fighting under the black flag of the Islamic State.

Military spokesman Restituto Padilla said 89 rebels have been killed in the fighting and the amount of territory in the city that the remaining gunmen control has been cut to just 10 percent. However he warned of more intense clashes ahead, with the military believing three of the rebels' top leaders were likely still in the city.

Padilla said, "That 10% is most likely the area that is heavily guarded and defended by any armed men if they are protecting any individual of high value."

The rebels are holding an unknown number of civilians hostage. They initially took a priest and up to 14 other people captive at the beginning of the crisis. A video of the priest appeared on social media on Tuesday, in which he repeated the rebels' demands to withdraw and said his captors were holding 240 people hostage.

Padilla said the release of the footage showed the rebels were becoming increasingly desperate and said security forces would not back down. He said, "They are trapped, they are contained, they are in areas that they will never come up alive unless they surrender."

Another major complication is the safety of about 2,000 residents who the local government said remained trapped in the rebel-controlled areas.

Laundrywoman Jenita Abanilla arrived exhausted and famished at an evacuation center in Marawi on Wednesday afternoon after heavily armed police rescued her on Wednesday. She said, "We covered the mouths of our children. We were afraid the gunmen would come in and kill us," adding that she also feared being hit by bombs.

Padilla said the rebels had killed 19 civilians but insisted that military airstrikes had not killed any of the trapped residents. Twenty-one members of the security forces had also died, Padilla said, bringing the combined death toll to 129.

France issues chilling warning to ISIS recruits
[Ynet] La Belle France's new government has issued a thinly-veiled warning that its citizens who become fighters for the Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group could be killed.

Asked Wednesday about a report that French forces are involved in assassinations of French ISIS holy warriors in Iraq, government front man Christophe Castaner neither confirmed nor denied The Wall Street Journal's findings.

He simply replied: "I say to all fighters who join the Islamic State group and then go abroad to wage war: waging war brings risks, and they must assume those risks."

President Emmanuel Macron, elected May 7, says crushing ISIS is a top priority.

Citing Iraqi officers and current and former French officials, the Journal said French special forces have enlisted Iraqi soldiers to hunt and kill Frenchies who have joined ISIS' senior ranks.

Huma Abedin has invited Anthony Weiner back home
Just when you thought Huma Abedin finally had enough, the Hillary Clinton aide has invited her admitted sex offender hubby back home again, The Post has learned.

Anthony Weiner’s long-suffering wife filed for divorce earlier this month, the same day the disgraced ex-congressman pleaded guilty to sexting with a 15-year-old girl.

But Abedin has since renewed the lease on their pricey Union Square duplex -- and invited back home the man who has repeatedly heaped humiliation upon her, sources told The Post.

The luxury three-bedroom, 1,500-square-foot pad at 1 Irving Place features an "expansive, panoramic view of Union Square Park and the midtown skyline," according to a Corcoran listing.

The sext-crazed pol, who had been sleeping on his mother’s couch in Park Slope, was to move out Tuesday, a source said.

"He was supposed to move," the building source explained. "But they just signed for another year."

Another source said, "She still hasn’t served him with the divorce papers."
She won't either. As long as he has a wife, he cannot be forced to testify against her. They have an...understanding.
Weiner, who will have to register as a sex offender as part of the plea deal with the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office, was spotted Tuesday at about 9 a.m. strolling out of the building with his and Abedin’s 5-year-old son.

A pal of the couple said Weiner has been the primary caretaker for the boy, especially while Abedin worked on Clinton’s failed presidential bid.
And she will continue to be the primary income as long as the Clintons are in funds, while dear Anthony doesn't seem to have any salable skills that don't involve being a connected politician. But Huma's life certainly will be more convenient with a live-in babysitter.

CNN Fires Kathy Griffin
[VARIETY] CNN has fired Kathy Griffin from their annual New Year’s Eve program, which she cohosted with anchor Anderson Cooper.

The network made the announcement via Twitter Wednesday morning.

"CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program," the CNN Public Relations account tweeted.

The termination comes one day after the comedienne posted a photo and video of her holding a fake severed head of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
. She later apologized for the photo and video, saying it went too far, and removed it from her Twitter account. She had made it as part of a photo shoot with Tyler Shields, but they did not disclose what the project was.

Trump tweeted about the photo early on Wednesday, writing that Griffin "should be ashamed of herself."

"My children, especially my 11-year-old son Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!"

CNN issued a statement on Tuesday night, condemning Griffin’s video and saying that they were evaluating New Year’s Eve plans.

While that date is far away, the network was under pressure to take action. Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., tweeted at Jake Tapper.

Anderson Cooper, who has co-hosted the New Year’s Eve telecasts with Griffin for the past decade, said that he was "appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate."

Before she issued her apology, Griffin said that she was in no way condoning violence, but that it was "merely mocking the MOCKER IN CHIEF."

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) he condemned Griffin’s video, and told CNN, "I think she did the right thing, and asking for forgiveness and acknowledging ... this was a horrible mistake."

But the Republican National Committee has noted that Franken is still scheduled to appear with Griffin at a July 7 event at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. Franken said that he still plans to appear with her.

Franken: I'm keeping Kathy Griffin event because 'she begged for forgiveness'
[TheHill] They are birds of a noxious feather...

Update from the Daily Mail at 6:39 p.m. EDT:
The comedian has also had five of her upcoming Celebrity Run-In Tour shows cancelled by venues.

Other venues are still considering axing her show after a flood of complaints.

Lefties now demanding statue of Sam Houston be removed from Houston Park
[AMERICANTHINKER] The Sam Houston statue has been at Hermann Park since 1925, but a group that calls itself Texas Antifa has started a campaign to take down this and any other landmark that bears the name Sam Houston.
Sam goes, I go. I'll go live in Liberia until they decide to change the name of the city named after James Monroe. I'll probably be dead by then, luckily.
The statue has been a site to see for nearly a century and for some people, it's a site they want to see for years to come.
Others would rather pet the camel's nose.
"Honestly, I think they should keep it up. Yeah," Nicole Nelson said.
Duh.
But Texas Antifa group members want the Sam Houston statue gone.
"Yes! It must go in the name of racial ideological purity."
On Thursday, the group posted on its Facebook page saying, "Texans agree the disgusting idols of America's dark days of slavery must be removed to bring internal peace to our country."
How many Texans did they ask in Del Rio and El Paso and Uvalde and Lubbock and Amarillo? How about Mineral Wells, Waco, Bangs, Commanche, and Blanket?
The group also suggested Mayor Sylvester Turner should back the removal of the statue, because of his ethnicity and political affiliation.
He's expected to come around after a few Black Lives Matter riots.
Mayor Turner is black,
Do tell. Whites make up 51 percent of the population, though only 25 percent of them are non-Hispanic. Blacks have 25 percent, and "All others" have the rest.
and apparently that is supposed to dictate his every thought and action. Too bad that the antifa people deny him the moral right to reach his own decisions.

As the article points out, while Sam Houston did own 12 slaves, he was hardly an explicit supporter of slavery:
He was also the preeminent founding father of Texas.
When Sam Houston was a senator in the 1800s, he repeatedly voted against the spread of slavery to new territories of the United States. He was also ousted as governor of Texas for refusing to align himself with the Confederacy.
Houston was founded on August 28, 1836, near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles east of where the city was established.
Of course, if the statue is removed, then the city itself must be renamed by the same logic. Marcuse, Texas? Obama, Texas? My gut instinct tells me that Texans will not put up with this nonsense.
My gut instinct tells me that the people now inhabiting Houston will go with Obama, TX.

Ancestors of ancient Egyptians came from Europe and Middle East, says study
[RT] Ancient Egyptians were more closely related to people from the Middle East and Europe than those from Central Africa, according to a genetic analysis of mummies’ DNA.
A team of international scientists from the University of Tuebingen and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Germany analyzed the DNA of 90 Egyptian mummies dating from approximately 1400 BCE to 400 CE.
The Egyptians had been around for something over thousand years before 1400 B.C, a date which is contemporary with the Aryan expansion from Central Asia. Breasted, writing in 1905, or published anyway, was of the opinion they were Libyans. Black Lives Matter and such pseudohistorians say they were black, based on an artistic style from one Middle Kingdom reign, ignoring the Egyptians' own representations of themselves (men were dark red, women white) and their representations of Africans.
Amazingly, the team’s findings revealed that the mummies’ closest kin were ancient farmers from the Levant – a historical term for a large geographic area in the eastern Mediterranean that includes Israel and Jordan.

The study, published in Nature, also claims that ancient Egyptians were closely related to Neolithic populations from the Anatolian Peninsula, an area made up of the majority of modern-day Turkey and Europe.
A little earlier in history:
Study: The oldest pre-human could originate from Europe, not Africa

[DW] Humans and great apes parted ways in Africa with the development of the first pre-humans, many experts believe. But there might be a completely different explanation: Are the Balkans the cradle of humanity?

The lines of descent of today's chimpanzees and humans may have split in Europe and not - as is often believed - in Africa, according to researchers at a German university.

What is more, this evolutionary step may have occurred a few hundred thousand years earlier than previously assumed, the researchers say.

The revolutionary theory was presented in the periodical "PLOS One" by a team of researchers led by Madelaine Böhme at the Tubingen-based Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Paleoenvironment (HEP).

Dental root as evidence
The team headed by Böhme examined the only two existing specimens of the "Graecopithecus freybergi" hominid, nicknamed "El Graeco" by researchers.

This tooth of the "Graecopithecus freybergi" was discovered in Bulgaria
The hominid species includes humans and their fossil ancestors as well as some of the great apes. The specimens concerned are a lower jaw found in Greece (above photo) and a tooth discovered in Bulgaria.

After detailed analyses, the research team concluded that Graecopithecus was a pre-human species hitherto unknown. For example, the dental roots were, for the most part, fused - a feature that is characteristic of humans and their extinct relatives. Great apes usually have separate dental roots.

"We were surprised by our results, as pre-humans were previously known only from sub-Saharan Africa," said Jochen Fuss, one of the researchers involved in the study.

After analyzing the sediments from which the fossils had been retrieved, the research team dated the lower jaw to 7.175 million years and the tooth to 7.24 million years ago. That makes the two specimens older than than the hitherto oldest known pre-human from Africa, Sahelanthropus, which is dated to about 6 to 7 million years ago.

There's a small amount of electronics at the tip, with hardened solid metal behind it to pierce whatever material it need to go through and the explosive package behind that does the real damage followed by more electronics, propulsion, rocket (or turbine) etc.

Lot more to missile designs than building a glorified firework rocket.

Molly Ball Can’t Care: Trump Family Just Playing ‘Victim’ With Beheading Photo
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Late Tuesday morning, leaked images of washed up comedian and CNN News Year’s Eve co-host Kathy Griffin holding a bloody mockup of President Trump’s head aloft went viral. It took CNN hours before any host on the channel dared to bring her up. Following a warning for graphic content, Jake Tapper, host of The Lead, displayed an image. The members of Tapper’s panel were unfazed by the display, with Molly Ball of The Atlantic claiming that the Trump family’s outrage was just them playing the victim card.
Molly who? Her fifteen minutes of name recognition have been up for five minutes, haven't they?
“I want to warn you out there, especially if you have kids, you might find what we're about to show you a little bit graphic. It’s not an actual photograph but let me show you right now,” Tapper warned the audience. “It’s a depiction of comedian Kathy Griffin who does work for CNN on New Year’s Eve. She’s pictured in this new photo shoot holding a bloody Donald Trump head.”

Tapper added that “It's pretty disgusting, and I can't imagine how anybody would think that's appropriate. Donald Trump Jr. is out there saying this is now considered to be acceptable discourse by the left.”

But Molly Ball didn’t have a problem with it and argued the Trump family was just trying to play themselves up as victims. “Who is saying it's even discourse? I have a hard time bringing myself to care about something like this. I think it just speaks to the need to see themselves as a victim that they have, that they are constantly being persecuted,” she told Tapper. “The Trump people are constantly having to point to the elites who are looking down on them,”

“Of course, comedians and celebrities say dumb stuff and do dumb stuff and violence is not appropriate, but I just don't think that that's the source of President Trump's problems,” she said, trying to brush off the incident as nothing. Ball’s fellow panelists, Obama administration lackey Jen Psaki and former Trump campaign strategist David Urban dismissed it as unimportant as well.

To make Ball’s position even more ridiculous, radical leftist Keith Olbermann actually denounced Griffin’s stunt on Twitter between calls for Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner to be arrested. “Nope. Too much. By a very long distance, way too much,” he said in a reply to Griffin’s own tweet.

ISIS abducts 850 in Kirkuk for use as human shields

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants have evacuated 850 civilians and burned their residences at the group’s main stronghold in Kirkuk to use them as future human shields, said a tribal leader.

Anwar al-Assi, who leads a tribal force combating Islamic State militants in Hawija, said in a press statement on Wednesday that Islamic State members transferred the civilians to a main playfield preparing to use them as human shields in case security forces charge at the town.

Assi said he had received information that IS executed 36 men in two days, but did not give more details about the reason or location of the execution.

IS members have been in control over Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk, since 2014, when the group came to the scene, took over several Iraqi regions and proclaimed an Islamic “caliphate”.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, launched an offensive in October to retake the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest urban stronghold in Iraq. The Iraqi government is planning to aim at other IS havens across Iraq after Mosul.

Local officials in Hawija have repeatedly urged the government to hasten with the liberation of their town.

Since taking over Iraqi regions, Islamic State members have executed dozens of civilians, security members and many of its own members for various reasons ranging from collaboration with security forces to attempting to flee areas under the group’s control, most notably Hawija.

ISIS executing civilians in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants executed tens of civilians who tried to flee their grip on Wednesday, while security strikes killed 16 others, according to local residents who spoke as operations against the militant group approach final stages.

Shafaaq News website quoted locals saying Islamic State militants had executed seven members of the same family earlier on Wednesday. They were attempting to flee their home in Mashahda region towards areas held by Iraqi security troops, the sources said.

Alforat.info quoted Cap. Mohamed al-Jeheishi, from Nineveh police, saying intelligence information revealed that 47 people, mainly women, children and elders, were caught by the group trying to flee al-Shefa district towards security-controlled areas before they were executed at Dourat Qassem.

It is not clear whether both incidents were related.

Meanwhile, Shafaaq News quoted local sources saying that more than 16 other civilians died as Iraqi forces continued to bombard Zanjili district with mortars and warplane fires.

News about IS executing civilians fo escaping their domains or collaborating with security forces have been recurrent since the government, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, launched a major offensive in October to retake Mosul from the group.

Hundreds of civilian deaths have also been blamed on Iraqi forces and coalition fighter jets. While the Iraqi government consistently denies causing civilian casualties, coalition commanders admitted recently they were behind dozens of deaths during the Mosul campaign.

Iraqi government troops regained control over eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting. Operations for the western side of the city launched in mid February, and Iraqi generals say a few hundreds of IS fighters remain in the Old City as a last refuge.

The densely populated and narrowly structured Old City was the place where IS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the establishment of the group’s rule in Iraq in 2014.

Iraqi forces began late April to advance towards the enclave from the northwest, having besieged it from the south for weeks to no avail.

At least 200.000 civilians are believed to remain in IS captivity in that area.

ISIS executes 9 of their own in Mosul

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants executed on Wednesday nine of their senior comrades West of Mosul on the backdrop of defeats to Iraqi government troops and allied militias, an army officer has said.

Cap. Moataz al-Hamadani told BasNews that the nine leaders, of Arab and Western nationalities, were executed at the center of Tal Afar town, a major Islamic State bastion west of Mosul and near the borders with Syria (70 Km west of Mosul).

Hamadani quoted residents from Tal Afar saying that the executions came amid growing divisions and infighting among the group’s members which followed consecutive defeats to Iraqi security forces. He did not give details of the method of execution.

According to the officer, those executed included a Russian, a British and a Turkish, but he did not mention their names or ranks. There was also Abu Othman al-Suri, a Syrian who was the group’s mayor for Tal Afar, and Baisan Atallah, a member of an unidentified Arab nationality who was in charge of the town’s police force.

Iraqi government troops regained control over eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting. Operations for the western side of the city launched in mid February, and Iraqi generals say a few hundreds of IS fighters remain in the Old City as a last refuge, with troops in control over more than 90 percent of territory.

Popular Mobilization Units, the paramilitary force fighting IS alongside government troops, have been clearing areas around Tal Afar since the launch of operations in October, putting the town under siege and isolating it from the Syrian borders.

ISIS prepares mosque for last stand

A member of the Iraqi rapid response forces fires a mortar shell against Islamic State militants positions in western Mosul, Iraq May 31, 2017. REUTERS/Alkis Konstantinidis[/caption (Reuters) Islamic State militants have closed the streets around Mosul’s Grand al-Nuri Mosque, residents said, apparently in preparation for a final showdown in the battle over their last major stronghold in Iraq.

Dozens of fighters were seen by residents taking up positions in the past 48 hours around the medieval mosque, the site where Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared an Islamist caliphate in July 2014.

Islamic State’s black flag has been flying from the mosque since the militants captured Mosul and seized swathes of Iraq and Syria in the summer of 2014.

U.S.-backed Iraqi government forces retook eastern Mosul in January and began a new push on Saturday to capture the group’s remaining enclave in western Mosul, comprising of the Old City center where the mosque is located, and three adjacent districts alongside the western bank of the River Tigris.

The fall of the city would, in effect, mark the end of the Iraqi half of the self-styled caliphate. Meanwhile in Syria, Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-air strikes are beseiging Islamic State forces in the city of Raqqa, the militants’ de facto capital in that country.

Symbolic Focus
Up to 200,000 people still live in harrowing conditions behind Islamic State lines in Mosul, running low on food, water and medicine, and with difficult access to hospitals, the United Nations said on Sunday.

The Grand al-Nuri Mosque has become a symbolic focus of the campaign, with Iraqi commanders privately saying they hope to capture it during Ramadan, the Muslim fasting month which started over the weekend in Iraq.

“Daesh’s fighters know that the mosque is the most important target and they are preparing for a major battle there,” said Hisham al-Hashemi, who advises several Middle East government including Iraq’s on Islamic State affairs.

But a battle in or near the mosque would put the building and its famed leaning minaret at risk, experts have said.

The minaret, several feet off the perpendicular and standing on humid soil, is particularly vulnerable as it has not been renovated since 1970. Its tilt gave the landmark its popular name – al-Hadba, or the hunchback.

The Mosul offensive, now in its eighth month, has taken much more time than expected as Islamic State is fighting in the middle of civilians and using them as human shields.

Over the past few days, the militants ordered dozens of families living in the Zanjili district to move into the Old City to prevent them from escaping toward the Iraqi forces trying to advance from the northern side, a resident said.

Government forces have been dropping leaflets over the districts telling families to flee but the intensity of the fighting has prevented people from escaping.

The militants been countering the offensive with suicide car and motorbike bombs, snipers, booby-traps and mortar fire.

About 700,000 people, about a third of the pre-war city’s population, have already fled, seeking refuge either with friends and relatives or in camps.

Mass grave found in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A mass grave composed of relics of 60 civilians, including women, killed by Islamic State, was found in western Mosul,” a local source from Nineveh province has said.

“Security troops discovered a mass grave in al-Shifa district in western Mosul,” the source told AlSumaria News on Wednesday. “The grave contained relics of 60 civilians, including elderly people and 23 women who worked as employees and lawyers as their ID cards found in their possession showed.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, “IS shot the civilians dead in the head. They were transferred to forensic medicine department in Wadi Hajar to identify them and hand over their bodies to their relatives.”

Several mass graves were found in IS-held areas since the Iraqi government, backed by a U.S.-led military coalition, launched a major security offensive in October 2016 to recapture the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest stronghold in Iraq.

Iraqi commanders say they at least 90 percent of territories in western Mosul is under Iraqi troops control, predicting to retake the city before the end of May. Only two districts besides the Old City are under IS control.

Iraqi forces have been sweeping through northwestern neighborhoods over the past few weeks in a way to invade the strategic Old City, after finding it hard to invade from the south.

The eastern side of Mosul was retaken in January after three months of battles. Another major offensive was launched in February to recapture the western flank of the city.

Michael Kors Closing Up to 125 Stores As Sales Plummet
[FORTUNE] Michael Kors (KORS, -8.52%) is closing up to 125 stores this year as it continues to partially unwind an aggressive expansion that had served it well when its namesake brand was hot.

The upscale brand reported on Wednesday that sales at stores open at least a year (comparable sales) fell 14.1% in its most recent quarter, and continue to fall sharply this year. What's more, Michael Kors' wholesale business, sales largely made to the struggling department store sector, fell 22.8% in the quarter.

Shares fell 6% in premarket trading. The company operates 827 stores, meaning the closings represent up to 15% or so of its fleet.

Let women use medical cannabis to ease period pain, says NY Democrat
Good lord.
[RT] A New York politician is leading a campaign to allow women in the US state to treat menstrual cramps with medical marijuana.

Linda Rosenthal, a member of the New York State Assembly, has called for painful periods to be placed alongside epilepsy and multiple sclerosis on a list of conditions whose sufferers are eligible to buy medical marijuana.

"This is a woman’s health issue," said Rosenthal in an interview with Newsweek. "Men have really been [the ones] who’ve run state houses, governorships, presidencies, and some issues that are just about women have gotten shortchanged."

German students clash with police over deportation of Afghan refugee
[RT] At least nine coppers were maimed as violent festivities between students and police broke out in the German city of Nurnberg when a group of students tried to block the deportation of an Afghan fellow learner.

The incident occurred as a police van carrying the Afghan student tried to leave the grounds of a vocational-technical school located not far from Berliner Platz in Nurnberg. At first, a group of some 20 students attempted to block the vehicle by staging a sit-in strike on the road leading out of the school grounds.

Germany cancels flight deporting migrants to Afghanistan after Kabul blast

[Ynet] The German government has cancelled a flight planned for Wednesday to deport rejected asylum seekers to Afghanistan after an kaboom killed at least 80 people in the Afghan capital Kabul, broadcaster ARD cited the interior minister as saying.

The interior ministry could not immediately comment.

In December Germany began carrying out group deportations of Afghans as the government sought to show it was tackling the high number of migrants colonists by getting rid of those who do not qualify as refugees.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Education Official Got Secret Cash Bonuses as Office Lost Billions to Fraud, Corruption
[JUDICIALWATCH.ORG] The senior Obama Education Department official who resigned this month to avoid testifying before Congress got hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses despite his well-documented failures, sources inside the agency tell Judicial Watch. The extra cash was kept off the books, away from the public, and doesn’t appear on his official government salary record but Judicial Watch has obtained the figures with yearly breakdowns. The official, James Runcie, ran the scandal-plagued Federal Student Aid (FSA) office, the government’s $1.4 trillion financial aid program. It includes, among other things, administering more than $150 billion in loans, grants and work-study funds to help students pay for college.

Under Runcie’s leadership there was pervasive fraud and corruption at the FSA, government sources tell Judicial Watch, including skirting federal rules to hire friends and family and hefty off-the-books cash bonuses despite the FSA’s documented transgressions. Just last week the Education Department Inspector General told Congress that the FSA made an astounding $6 billion in improper payments in 2016 alone as part of federal student aid programs. The figure includes $2.21 billion in improper Pell Grant payments and $3.86 billion as part of the Direct Loan program. These are disbursements that either shouldn’t have been made, went to the wrong recipient, were for an incorrect amount or were not properly documented. Each year the problem gets worse, according to Kathleen Tighe, Inspector General for the Education Department. Improper payments for the Federal Direct Loan program swelled from $1.28 billion in 2015 to $3.86 billion in 2016 and from $562 million to $2.21 billion for the federal Pell Grant program, all under Runcie’s leadership.

House Intelligence Panel Issues Seven Subpoenas in Russia Probe
[WSJ] The House Intelligence Committee issued seven subpoenas on Wednesday, in a sign that its investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election is ramping up in scope and intensity, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Republican-led committee issued four subpoenas related to the Russia investigation. Three subpoenas are related to questions about how and why the names of associates of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
were unredacted and distributed within classified reports by B.O. regime officials during the transition between administrations.

The committee has subpoenaed the National Security Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Central Intelligence Agency for information about what is called "unmasking." Republicans on the committee have been pushing for a thorough investigation of how the names of Trump campaign officials became exposed in classified intelligence reports based off intelligence community intercepts.

Those subpoenas seek information on requests made by former national security adviser Susan Rice, former CIA Director John Brennan and former United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Ambassador Samantha Power for names to be unmasked in classified material.

Ms. Power hasn’t previously been reported as a potential witness in the probe and her inclusion in the subpoenas means that Republicans are also broadening their areas of investigation. Mr. Brennan, Ms. Rice and Ms. Power didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

[NATIONALREVIEW] The old downtown died most places, and, now, the new downtown is dying, too: At the highwater mark, there were about 5,000 malls in the United States, and there are now 1,100, at least 400 of which are expected to close in the next few years. In the 1980s, developers built an average of 60 malls a year -- and more than 100 in some years. Now, cities from San Bernardino, Calif., to High Point, N.C., are dealing with the husks of these dead retail behemoths. There are documentary films and TED talks about dead malls.

#1  Is it so much retail decline as occupancy expectations. See the turn over in IPhones. Maybe the new expectation by business renters is short term store contracts. That means for the consumer, you may not be able to 'bring it back to the store', cause it won't be there.

#2  There are documentary films and TED talks about dead malls.
However, no film or talks about the long term extreme over-building of retail space in the USA, the real cause of this "decline". After all, "no one could have predicted this."

#3  I was at a ;almost dead' mall in Aberdeen Wa. last year. This was a booming area until the environmentalists came in with their junk science 'Spotted Owl' crap. Destroyed the entire logging industry in that arean and along with it the local economy and this mall.
Most of the shops were boarded up and empty. Very few people there (and this was a weekend). overgrown parking area. Pretty depressing to look at.

#4  Many malls around the ATL area have just become the local wanna-be-a-thug hangout on a Friday night. No reason to take my family there.

#5  There's a *taxation* issue at the heart of this that never generates the right kind of discussion. Even though half of this country routinely votes in charlatans who will continuously reach for more and more of their paychecks, those same people will absolutely order something online (tax-free still in many states) to put some of that money back in their pockets.

Sure, the better solution would be for everyone to wake up and demand a reduction in the size of government (and with it a reduction in taxes). But most folks can't connect the dots in that manner, or are afraid to since its not cool to be unconcerned about "diversity" and "global warming" and other such nonsense.

Rachel Dolezal disinvited from Baltimore Book Festival after public backlash
[FOXNEWS] Organizers for the Baltimore Book Festival announced Tuesday they disinvited Rachel Dolezal, the controversial white woman who represented herself as African American for years, to this year's event after receiving major public backlash.
Poor Rachel. She's convinced she's black. I had an aunt once who was convinced she was a chicken. We couldn't tell her otherwise; we needed the eggs.
Festival organizers released a statement on its Facebook page, citing reaction from attendees and authors as the reason for rescinding Dolezal's invitation.

"A top priority of the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is to listen to our constituents, and after hearing from a cross-section of opinions on having Rachel Dolezal participate in this year’s festival, we had to consider how her appearance may affect both the audience and the other extraordinary authors we have planned for the Baltimore Book Festival," the statement read.

#5  they disinvited Rachel Dolezal. Next people will be de-friending her on FB. Some lefties are just not very tolerant. Maybe Rachel could write a book such as John Howard Griffin, a white man who wrote a book in the 1960s (entitled "Black Like Me.") Griffin colored his skin with methoxsalen (Oxsoralen) in 1959 to darken his skin for his race project. It was rumored that Griffin died from skin cancer but he died from diabetes. He did incur temporary and minor symptoms from taking the drug, especially fatigue and nausea. HIs book chronicled his experiences of traveling in the deep South as a black man.

New Jersey town must pay an Islamic group $3.25million after it was sued for refusing to allow it to build a mosque
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Under the settlement, New Jersey's Bernards Township will pay local Islamic Society of Basking Ridge $3.25million and allow it to build the mosque

  • Both the Islamic group and the Department of Justice sued the township in 2016

  • The town claimed it denied the permit over parking reasons, not discrimination

#3  WTF, a town doesn't have the right to change its zoning requirements based on changing growth conditions. Local zoning requirements change all the time. This occurred under the Obama/Lynch DOJ which was "more than" Islamic-friendly. The lawyers made out if the town didn't.

Duterte insists he ‘will not talk to terrorists’ in U-turn on clashes in south Philippines
[RT] Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte insists he will not talk with the forces of Evil fighting his country’s military and occupying parts of a city in its south, saying he is determined to drive Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) off the islands.

"I will not talk to the terrorists," Duterte said during a speech he gave to the military in Davao City on Wednesday, as quoted by Rooters.

The statement represents a turn-around for Duterte, who urged the Maute rebels to speak with him just last week.

A total of 129 people ‐ 89 holy warriors, 19 civilians, and 21 government soldiers ‐ have been killed in the Philippines’ southern city of Marawi since IS-linked Maute rebels took control of parts of it last week, military front man Brigadier General Restituto Padilla told AP.

#3  From Wiki According to a 2015 report of Philippine Statistics Authority, 5.6% of Filipinos are Muslims. Most Filipinos are Roman Catholic. Duterte just might be able to drive ISIS from the islands. 89 holy warriors is a start.

NY Times to make more cuts in newsroom staff

Couldn't happen to a more deserving newsroom.
The New York Times Co. NYT, +0.00% on Wednesday offered buyouts aimed at cutting the number of editors in the newsroom.
It's not like all those layers of editing ever caught any of the deliberate errors of fact and interpretation anyway, and NYT journalists are hired with high level grammar and spelling skills, so the cost savings is easy.
In a memo to staff, Executive Editor Dean Baquet and managing editor Joseph Kahn said the paper's current system of two separate groups of editors performing different tasks would be replaced with one group of editors responsible for all aspects, according to the Times. "Our goal is to significantly shift the balance of editors to reporters at the Times, giving us more on-the-ground journalists developing original work than ever before," they wrote in the memo. According to the memo, reporters and other staffers in the newsroom are free to apply for the buyout. The number of positions targeted was not revealed.

The Times hopes the buyout will let it hire 100 additional journalists, it said. Also on Wednesday, the Huffington Post reported that the paper would be eliminating its public-editor role. That position, currently held by a former Washington Post managing editor, Elizabeth Spayd, was created to hold the paper accountable after the Jayson Blair plagiarism scandal in 2003.

The news comes a day after the Times announced it was establishing a "reader center" to improve engagement with its readers. Shares of New York Times Co. were down less than 1% shortly before noon on Wednesday. Shares have gained more than 31% in 2017 and more than 44% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.05% is up nearly 8% in the year and 15% in the last 12 months.
