They would rather explain that the Democrats' policy was the correct one, but that an outsider deceived the American people
After his meeting with Emmanuel Macron in Versailles, Vladimir Putin gave an an exclusive interview to Le Figaro's Alexis Brézet and Renaud Girard (video) from a classroom of the Russian cultural center in Paris (translated from the French translation of the remarks in Russian).

Excerpts related to the accusations of the Kremlin's interference in the 2016 election:
Suspicions of Russian interference in the US election campaign have triggered a political storm in Washington. In France, similar suspicions have been expressed. What's your reaction?

The Western press talks about Russian hackers. But where does the idea come from? When President Trump mentioned the situation, he said things that are quite right. Maybe it did not come from Russia, maybe there was someone who inserted a USB stick under the name of a Russian citizen. In this virtual world, today, anything can be done. Russia has never hacked. We do not need it. No interest. What's the point ? I've talked to several American presidents, you know. Presidents come and go, but politics do not change. And do you know why ? Because the bureaucracy in America is very powerful. The person elected has his or her opinions, ideals, visions, but the day after the election, people with briefcases, in tie and suits with white shirts come to explain how to act as a good president. And changing something in this situation is very difficult. I say this without irony.

So, are you saying that this storm in Washington is based on nothing but a fantasy?

Yes, on fantasy. On the desire of those who lost the elections to remedy their situation by accusing Russia of interference. They lost because the winner was closer to the people and had a better understanding of the voters' aspirations. It's hard to admit. One would rather explain and prove to others that the policy followed by the Democrats was the right one, but that someone from outside deceived the American people. That someone rigged the election. But this is not the case. They simply lost: one must know how to recognize one's defeat, and have the strength to do so. Once this is done, it will be simpler to work together. But today, we use the anti-Russian card in Washington, and this is detrimental to international relations. They could of course quarrel among themselves: who is the best? Who is the most intelligent? But hey, it will pass...

Economy
Dakota Access Pipeline Operational
More on the subject of the article below, so moved to Economy so they can more easily be read sequentially.
[FuelFix.com] Dallas pipeline giant Energy Transfer Partners announced on Thursday that, after crippling winter storms, heated protests and months of delay, it is shipping crude oil on the Dakota Access Pipeline.

The 1,200-mile pipeline connects the Bakken oilfields in North Dakota to Patoka, Ill., and then to refineries on the Gulf Coast. It was the subject of months of protests last year, which grew to thousands of people in size and, at times, drew clashes with police. Environmentalists saw it as a symbol of global warming and the proliferation of fossil fuel use. The Standing Rock Sioux, who tap the Missouri River for tribal water, argued that the pipeline traversed sacred burial grounds and threatened the tribe's main water source.

Late last year, President Barack Obama refused to approve the pipeline's final connection, under the Missouri, and sent plans back to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for review. But President Donald Trump, fulfilling campaign promises, quickly reversed Obama's decision after taking office.

The pipeline is a joint venture with Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum and Houston-based Enbridge Energy Partners and Phillips 66.

The full pipeline, from the Bakken to the Gulf, cost nearly $5 billion. It has commitments to ship about 520,000 barrels per day and could pipe as much as 570,000 barrels per day.

Science & Technology
How AI Can Keep Accelerating After Moore's Law
[MIT] Google CEO Sundar Pichai was obviously excited when he spoke to developers about a blockbuster result from his machine-learning lab earlier this month. Researchers had figured out how to automate some of the work of crafting machine-learning software, something that could make it much easier to deploy the technology in new situations and industries.

But the project had already gained a reputation among AI researchers for another reason: the way it illustrated the vast computing resources needed to compete at the cutting edge of machine learning.

A paper from Google’s researchers says they simultaneously used as many as 800 of the powerful and expensive graphics processors that have been crucial to the recent uptick in the power of machine learning (see "10 Breakthrough Technologies 2013: Deep Learning"). They told MIT Technology Review that the project had tied up hundreds of the chips for two weeks solid--making the technique too resource-intensive to be more than a research project even at Google.

A coder without ready access to a giant collection of GPUs would need deep pockets to replicate the experiment. Renting 800 GPUs from Amazon’s cloud computing service for just a week would cost around $120,000 at the listed prices.

#1  The electrical engineer and billionaire businessman, Gordon Moore, founder of “Intel Corporation” is the man who first observed in 1965 that the amount of transistors in a printed circuit board would double roughly every two years and predicted that it would carry on like that for at least another ten years or so. 50 years later his prediction is still happening. Therefore, it is called Moore’s Law

Now it doesn’t take much to figure out that this cannot carry on indefinitely. Somewhere along the line there MUST be a stop, a ceiling of some sorts, a saturation point if you will.

For instance, Moore’s prediction has become a target for miniaturization in the semiconductor industry, but components cannot be made smaller and smaller all the time, because somewhere along the line you cannot make it smaller than the atom.

Over the years lots of people have predicted the death of Moore’s Law, yet it is still alive. It carries on, and on, and advances technology to the benefit of the human race. However, every time someone says, this is now definitely the end of Moore’s Law, it is not.

Some sources say we will have tri-gate transistors, perhaps around 2020. After that there will be "gate all around" transistors and nanowires. The mid-2020s could bring monolithic 3D chips, where a single piece of silicon has multiple layers of components that are built up on a single die, but still…every two years we see Moore’s Law in action. …In other words, Moore’s Law, although being 50 years old already, is still alive as you are reading this and there are no signs that it will be letting up anytime soon despite predictions.

#2  Now it doesn’t take much to figure out that this cannot carry on indefinitely. Somewhere along the line there MUST be a stop, a ceiling of some sorts, a saturation point if you will.

And then at some point there will be another paradigm shift.
Posted by: JohnQC || 06/02/2017 8:40 Comments || Top||

#3  Two paradigm shifts.

The longer term one is new chip architectures based on neural connections similar to those in mammal brains. Such chips have been demonstrated in early prototypes by IBM and others.

The shorter term shift is already in place in 'deep learning' based on nested neural nets.
Posted by: Angusock Chuting6110 || 06/02/2017 9:40 Comments || Top||

#4  We are crossing a big paradigm shift now as the industry shifts from Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) to Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lasers. One of the challenges to Moore's law was the wavelength of the Deep Ultraviolet beam was too fat and double-patterning the waffers was sloppy. EUV solves that.

Questionable 'Young Blood' Transfusions Offered in U.S. as Anti-Aging Remedy
[MIT] Just off a winding highway along the Pacific coast in Monterey, California, is a private clinic where people can pay $8,000 to have their veins pumped with blood plasma from teenagers and young adults.

Jesse Karmazin is the entrepreneur who made the practice possible, by launching a clinical trial on the potential of "young blood" through his startup Ambrosia. He says that within a month, most participants "see improvements" from the one-time infusion of a two-liter bagful of plasma, which is blood with the blood cells removed.

Several scientists and clinicians say Karmazin’s trial is so poorly designed it cannot hope to provide evidence about the effects of the transfusions. And some say the pay-to-participate study, with the potential to collect up to $4.8 million from as many as 600 participants, amounts to a scam.

Rand Paul Mocks Trump Critics on Paris Accord Withdrawal ‐ ‘Mass Extinction, Really?'
[Breitbart] Thursday on CNN, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said the reactions on the left to President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement on climate change were "alarmist" and "ridiculous."

Paul said, "We should try to constrain pollution. We should try to control pollution. I think we’ve been doing that for 50 or 60 years. And I think we should continue. But your previous guest sounded like, my goodness, the sky is falling, mass extinction. Really? I don’t think we should be alarmists about this. The planet is 4.5 billion years old. We have gone through great extremes of climate change natural and now we may have man-made influence as well."

"But these people, the question I always ask the alarmists is how much is nature and how much is man?" he continued. "They act as if it’s a given that man is the only source of climate change. My goodness, the great climate changes in our history happened before the industrial revolution. So is there climate change could man have an impact? Yes, but let’s not be such alarmists that if we don’t sign the Paris accord that there’s going to be mass extinction? That’s a ridiculous statement."

DOJ Urged to Investigate Planned Parenthood's Fetal Tissue Transfers
[Breitbart] National pro-life leaders are urging U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe to investigate Planned Parenthood for its past fetal tissue transfers, for which the abortion business was paid.

Led by the March for Life, the pro-life coalition sent a letter requesting the Department of Justice to follow through with the 15 criminal and regulatory referrals ‐ made by the House’s Select Panel ‐ of Planned Parenthood and its affiliates in the fetal tissue procurement industry.

The letter, signed by 17 pro-life leaders, states the facts uncovered during the congressional investigations into Planned Parenthood and its partners, including Advanced Bioscience Resources, DaVinci Biologics, and StemExpress, "raise a reasonable suspicion that these organizations, and/or individuals employed by them, may have engaged in a conspiracy to violate the fetal tissue law (18 U.S.C. § 371)."

The letter comes as Center for Medical Progress releases a new undercover video in which National Abortion Federation (NAF) abortionists are heard sharing graphic details about the dismemberment of unborn babies during the procedure. The footage is a compilation of excerpts from video filmed at NAF trade shows, where abortionists are heard discussing the difficulties they face in their jobs, such as "the head that gets stuck that we can’t get out," and "an eyeball just fell down into my lap, and that is gross!"

Within hours of the video’s release, it was pulled from YouTube and other sites at the order of District Judge William Orrick, who expressed concern about the safety of the abortionists.

Mollie Hemingway observed at The Federalist in August of 2015 that Orrick "wasn’t just appointed by President Barack Obama, the most extreme proponent of abortion ever to hold the White House."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Trump Conditionally Arms the YPG - Arms Are Not to End Up With PKK
[Al-Monitor] The long delayed battle to capture Raqqa is imminent after the United States formally announced that it has begun to arm the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), the coalition’s premier ally in the war against the Islamic State in Syria.

The battle for Raqqa is near as arms from the United States are dispersed among the coalition’s Kurdish ally, the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units.

An official from the Syrian Defense Forces (SDF), the umbrella group that brings together the YPG and its Arab allies from the Syrian Arab Coalition (SAC), told Al-Monitor that the offensive will begin in the coming weeks. "It's unlikely, but ... maybe even tomorrow [June 2]," the SDF official said.

The noose around Raqqa, the capital of the IS "caliphate," has been tightening as thousands of YPG and Arab fighters advised by US special operations forces have encircled it from the north, the west and the east. They have now pushed to within about 2 miles of the mainly Arab city where IS will likely put up fierce resistance, as it has in Mosul in neighboring Iraq.

Turkey insists that the YPG poses a threat to its national security because of the group’s tight links to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), a Kurdish militia that has been fighting since 1984 for self-rule inside Turkey.

The United States finally decided to take the leap, however, and last month President Donald Trump signed a waiver authorizing the Pentagon to directly arm the YPG only days before meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Washington.

In sharp contrast to its earlier bluster, Ankara’s reaction has been one of resentful resignation punctuated by the occasional anti-American squawk. Veiled threats to rescind coalition access to the Incirlik Air Base have all but evaporated. And Turkey’s lethal April 25 airstrike on YPG positions inside northern Syria that endangered US special forces in the area seems, in hindsight, to have been more of a one-off aimed at massaging nationalist domestic sensibilities.

Still, Stein reckons that Turkish pressure made a difference in the equipment that is being provided to the YPG. Referring to anti-tank guided missiles, or ATGMs, Stein noted, "It looks like the SDF has been given ATGMs that can’t kill Turkish tanks but will be able to take out IS VBIEDs." He added, "US special operations forces are also in the area and pictures suggest that they have the Javelin missile, so the US and YPG could be splitting ATGM duties." The Javelin is a US-made portable ATGM. The United States has pledged to track all the equipment it is providing to the YPG and to halt deliveries if they wind up in PKK hands or are used to target Turkey.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Lonely Dateland, Arizona man arrested after getting too friendly with mare
Christopherson Maynes, a 20-year-old Arizona man, has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a female horse. He was reportedly caught engaging in sexual intercourse with the mare on a property in Dateland on Monday afternoon.
How can you live in DATEland and get stuck with a horse?
Maynes was arrested by police after he was reportedly found having sex wth a female horse. Police even secured video evidence of the alleged sexual act.
"Of course she's a female! Do I look like some kinda pervert?"
He was booked in the Yuma County Detention Center for bestiality, indecent exposure and animal cruelty.
"Animal cruelty?" He must be hung like a... Never mind.
"Deputies were able to recover video evidence of the suspect," Alfonso Zavala of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office said.
So not only was he bangin' Mrs. Ed, but he was preserving it for posterity?
Deputies initially responded to a call of animal cruelty. The individual who reported the incident said he caught Maynes having sex with the animal.
"Here you! Unhand that beast!"
"That ain't me hand!"

The full police statement read: "On Monday, May 29, 2017 at approximately 4:50 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1400 block of North Catalina Road in Dateland, AZ in reference to an animal cruelty case. Upon arrival, Deputies met with the reporting party who stated that the suspect had been caught having sexual intercourse with a mare on the property.
"If it's that much of a hassle I'll marry the bit-- mare!"
Christopherson Maynes, 20, of Dateland, was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for bestiality, indecent exposure and animal cruelty."
"Come on, sheriff! What's the big deal? It ain't like she's a filly!"
This is not the first reported incident of sexual activity between a human and horse. Earlier this year an individual from Wakefield in the U.K. was jailed for having sex with a horse after his DNA was recovered from the animal.
Ew. Just ew.

Judicial Watch Finds New Emails Showing Huma Abedin Doing Clinton Foundation Favors For Russia Connected Group While at The State Department
More on the subject of the article below, so moved to Lurid Crime Tales so they can more easily be read sequentially.
[TownHall] Government watchdog Judicial Watch has found a number of new emails belonging to former Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton containing classified information and showing favors being done for a Russia connected organization through the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State. The emails were obtained through a lawsuit against the Department and a recent court order.

"The new Abedin emails also reveal additional instances in which Clinton’s then- scheduler Lona Valmoro forwarded the former secretary of state’s detailed daily schedule to top Clinton Foundation officials. The new emails also reveal a number of favors that were requested and carried out," Judicial Watch found. "In May 2010, Abedin tells Band that she has 'hooked up' people from the Russian American Foundation with 'the right people' at the State Department after Abedin received a request from Russian American Foundation Vice President Rina Kirshner, forwarded by Clinton Foundation donor Eddie Trump (no relation to President Trump)."

President Trump appeals travel ban case to Supreme Court
[The Hill] The Trump administration late Thursday asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its travel ban that would block citizens from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.

The administration filed two emergency applications with the Supreme Court justices seeking to block lower level court rulings that had previously halted Trump's March 6 executive order Reuters reported Thursday. The revised order banned citizens of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the country for 90 days while the government implemented a stricter visa screening process.

In a statement, Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said it had "asked the Supreme Court to hear this important case and are confident that President Trump's executive order is well within his lawful authority to keep the nation safe and protect our communities from terrorism."

"The president is not required to admit people from countries that sponsor or shelter terrorism, until he determines that they can be properly vetted and do not pose a security risk to the United States," the statement continued.

The decision comes a week after a Richmond, Va.-based federal appeals court refused to reinstate the ban.

Despite the left's best efforts, the Dakota Access Pipeline is now delivering oil
More on the subject of the article above.
[Hot Air] Protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline became an international news story last year. Progressives around the country rallied to the cause and held marches around the country. Over a million dollars was raised on social media to support the main protest camp and thousand of people traveled to remote Cannonball, North Dakota to become part of the effort to block the final mile of the nearly 1,200-mile long pipeline.

Protesters battled police on land and in the water and over several months hundreds, mostly from out of state, were arrested. One woman faces 10 years in jail for (allegedly) firing a gun toward police officers.

The Obama administration came to the protesters’ rescue when Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy overruled the Army Corps of Engineers recommendation that the pipeline be approved. Instead, she announced a new environmental study which would have taken up to two years to complete. The new study was officially announced just a couple days before President-elect Trump took office.

These transparently political moves were cheered by progressives, but not for long. On February 7th the Trump administration ended the new study and approved construction of the final stretch of pipeline. A few weeks later the main protest camp was cleared out by police. It cost over a million dollars to clean up the mess protesters left behind and prevent it from washing into the river they were supposedly there to protect. Dogs and puppies left behind at the frozen camp were also rescued.

#2  I would very much like to see an estimate of all the petroleum wasted supporting the protest camp and particularly trucking in protesters, news media, and hangers-on from all over the world to the camp. Probably this amounted to many month's production of this very same pipeline.

EPA begins offering buyouts to cut staff
[The Hill] The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has kicked off its buyout program to reduce staffs numbers, according to an internal memo reported by Reuters on Thursday.

The EPA memo was sent to all agency employees as President Trump, joined at the White House by EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, announced that the U.S. would withdraw from the Paris climate change accord.

The EPA plans to submit the buyout proposal to the White House's Office of Management and Budget for approval in June and work to "expedite the review process," Reuters reported. The EPA has said it aims to complete the buyout program by the end of the fiscal year in September.

"Early outs and buy outs...can help us realign our workforce to meet changing mission requirements and move toward new models of work," reads the memo sent by acting Deputy Administrator Mike Flynn, Reuters reported.

U.S.-led coalition strike kills founder of Islamic State media outlet: brother
(IraqiNews) An air strike by the U.S.-led coalition has killed the founder of the Islamic State propaganda media outlet Amaq in the eastern Syrian province of Deir al-Zor, his brother said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Reuters could not independently confirm whether he had been killed. There was no immediate comment from the United States-led coalition against Islamic State.

The post said the strike killed Rayan Meshaal and his daughter in their home in the city of al-Mayadin. Syrian opposition activists had been sharing news of Meshaal’s death on social media.

“I’m pleased to announce the martyrdom of my older brother Baraa Kadek, known as Rayan Meshaal…in an air strike by the coalition,” the Facebook post reportedly by his brother said.

Islamic State often claims responsibility for attacks worldwide through Amaq channels on social media.

Rita Katz, director of the U.S.-based SITE monitoring service, said on Twitter that a coalition strike allegedly killed Meshaal in Deir al-Zor.

Katz added Amaq had “shown itself as ISIS’ state media agency” since its founding in 2014 and had issued claims for at least two dozen attacks around the world.

Islamic State militants control swathes of Syria’s vast eastern deserts and most of Deir al-Zor province bordering Iraq, but they have been on the back foot over the past year.

With air strikes and special forces on the ground, the U.S.-led coalition is supporting an alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias in a campaign to capture Raqqa city.
Ynet adds:
Activists said Kadek was close to the ISIS leadership, gaining their trust and reportedly meeting with the enigmatic leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

His brother, Hozaifa, and former friends reported his death.

ACLU Fights Against Law Criminalizing Female Genital Mutilation
[TRUTHREVOLT.ORG] Maine GOP Rep. Heather Sirocki is sponsoring bill LD745 which would make the Islamic ritual of female genital mutilation (FGM) a crime. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the American Civil Liberties Union is very much opposed to the legislation.
"It's their culture. Who are we to criticize?"
Sirocki says Maine is a high-risk area in America for FGM and [it] happens so often that the federal government sends special funds to help the state. The bill would make FGM a Class B crime which carries a $20,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison. In addition, the bill punishes parents and/or guardians of the victim and criminalizes "vacation cutting" -- where the victim is flown overseas to have the "procedure."
If it makes sense to me that's probably a good indication the ACLU hates it.
According to The Daily Caller, the ACLU "staunchly opposes the protection."
Really?
"ACLU front man Oamshri Amarasingham said that the risk of mutilation isn’t worth expanding Maine’s criminal code," the report states. "The Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault also supported the ACLU, arguing that FGM is not happening in Maine."
"No, no! Certainly not!"
But Sirocki said, "Federal prosecutors take a very small amount of cases. The state of Maine deals with thousands of cases. If a situation would occur and this is the issue, if the federal government doesn’t have enough prosecutors, it doesn’t get prosecuted."
Meaning it gets plea bargained, which doesn't grow anyone's genitalia back.
The bill will be reviewed by the state house of representatives before heading for final approval in the state senate. If it passes, the DC notes, Maine becomes the 25th state to criminalize FGM. According to a 2012 Center for Disease Control report, there were 500,000 FGM victims in the United States. Since 2003, almost 800 have violated FGM laws nationwide and been deported. There have been at least 400 additional arrests.
Just to keep everyone happy, they should also pass laws against gelding men. I know, it doesn't happen often, but when it does it's really important to the men.

ISIS-loving Air Force vet gets 35 years at weepy sentencing
More on this story from yesterday.
[NYPOST] A US Air Force vet who became the first American ever to be convicted of attempting to join ISIS prattled on, sometimes tearfully, for nearly 40 minutes Wednesday before a Brooklyn federal judge interrupted him to say he wasn’t the holy warrior’s "psychiatrist" and sentenced him to 35 years behind bars.

"This isn’t about whether you’re Moslem or Christian or Jewish," US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis told Tairod Pugh before handing down his decision. "This is about whether you’re going to stand up for your country, which has done so much for you, or betray your country.

"You made your choice," the jurist growled. "I have no sympathy."

Pugh, who did not testify during his trial, spoke at length Wednesday in a tangential, sometimes incoherent rant in which he attempted to explain away terrorist propaganda found in his possession, as well as maps of the border crossings from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
into Syria.

"I am a black man, I am a military man, I am a Moslem man," Pugh said before dissolving into tears.

"I protected this country and the Constitution," he choked. "And my service was repaid by stripping me of my career, shaming my wife, shaming my parents, shaming my children."

As he spoke to the judge, the Neptune, NJ, man -- who left his bride and children behind in Cairo when he made what he called "a one-way trip" to Turkey -- asked Garaufis to leaf through photos of him, mostly posing alongside various aircraft he’d worked on across the world.

The 49-year-old was convicted last March of plotting to join ISIS and obstructing a government proceeding. Upon his capture in Istanbul in 2015, he had attempted to destroy evidence of his plot.

Pugh served as an airplane mechanic for four years in the US military before he was honorably discharged and began working around the Middle East.

Syrian Army’s most elite brigade heads from Damascus to Daraa city
[ALMASDARNEWS] Relocated from the Syrian capital, a large convoy of Syrian Arab Army (SAA) reinforcements arrived in the provincical capital of Daraa on Thursday, representing the third batch of troops from the 4th Mechachanized Division to arrive in the southern city over the week.

The 42nd Brigade ‐ also known as the Ghaith Forces ‐ brought with them dozens of so-called ’Adra T-72’ tanks and scores of elephant rockets mounted on pickup trucks:

The 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division is considered the strongest in the SAA and was previously commanded by Maher al-Assad himself, the younger brother of the Syrian President.

This seasoned brigade is currently led by Colonel Ghiath Dalleh who singlehandedly retook half a dozen rebel pockets around Damascus in the past year alone.

With overwhelming manpower and weaponry in the process of deployment in Daraa city, the SAA is expected to unleash a huge ground offensive on the al-Manshiyah and Deraa al-Balaad neighborhoods, both of which were bombarded by Syrian warplanes on Thursday.

The coming campaign in Daraa represents the 42nd Brigade’s first military operations outside the Syrian capital.

Islamists beat back Syrian Army attack in Damascus countryside
[ALMASDARNEWS] Militants of Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
(Army of Islam) jihadist group managed to repel an attack by Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on Hawsh Dawahra town in East Ghouta region of Damascus province.

Government forces reactivated their military operations in the region on May 30, when 105th Brigade of the Elite Republican Guard, alongside with National Defense Forces (NDF) of Damascus and Paleostine Liberation Army (PLA) began a fresh assault targeting the aforementioned town.

Initially, the attack developed successfully as government troops were able to seize a farmland situated between Hawsh Dawahra and Hawsh Zarqiyah.

After that, Syrian Army and allies tried to storm the town itself twice, but both attempts failed due to fierce resistance put up by krazed killers.

Over the course of past 48 hours government forces lost around 10 soldiers on this front. However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
they are still in control of their positions in the farmland surrounding Hawsh Dawahra.

China bans Ramadan observance in Muslim region
[IsraelTimes] Uyghur people of northwest Xinjiang province caught fasting ’will be dealt with,’ as officials try to stamp out Islam.
How about some nice forced conversions?
Authorities in China’s predominantly Moslem province have enacted a series of measures to prevent observance of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan, with one official saying that those caught fasting "will be dealt with."

An official government notice stated that the region has adopted many measures to "ensure social peace and harmony," including ordering all restaurants to remain open for Ramadan, the World Uyghur Congress (WUC) website reported on Monday.

An official from the Zawa township, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, was quoted as saying that teachers, public servants and employees in the service sector are "not allowed to fast" during Ramadan.

"It is strictly prohibited and if they are found fasting during this period, they will be dealt with," he said.

Communist China has tried for decades to replace religious observance with allegiance to the party, particularly among the Uyghur people, most of whom are Moslem, and who live in the Xinjiang province of northwest China.

The region also borders several Moslem-majority countries including Afghanistan and Pakistain where Islamic terrorist groups have strongholds. Islamic State

The "2017 Work Conclusion on the Stability Maintenance of Xinjiang during the Ramadan Period" notice warns that the Industrial and Commercial Bureau of Aksu which regulates business and alcohol licenses for restaurants, will "strengthen leadership," "control," and "inspection" in the county, and "widen the scope of propaganda [to] focus on prevention," the site reported.

In addition, the authorities are forcing party activists to do marathon shifts, requiring them to "stand on 24-hour uninterrupted guard," making fasting all but impossible.

In the neighboring Hotan county, students will gather on Fridays, the day when many Moslems attend prayer services in the mosque, and will "collectively study, watch red [communist propaganda] films, and conduct sports activities" in a way to "enrich their social life during the summer vacation," according to the notice.

An official refused to answer whether the measures were specifically targeting Moslems observing Ramadan. "I cannot give you any details on this matter," the official who spoke on condition of anonymity, said. "You’d better inquire about it with the public security sectors."

Mr Jones, who accompanied President Donald Trump

on his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and Israel, also said that the United States had forged a defence partnership with the Saudis to counter "malign Iranian influence" in the region.

At a Tuesday afternoon news briefing on President Trump’s Middle East tour, the bigwig said the United States would also participate in the Saudi ETIDAL project for countering krazed killer ideology.

Under the project, the Saudis have established a Global Centre for Countering Extremist Ideology in Riyadh and plan to form partnerships with other Moslems nations and the United States for formulating a narrative countering the krazed killer ideology.

But the veteran diplomat, who has served as the US ambassador to Iraq and Jordan, was reduced to an awkward silence while responding to a question about democracy in Saudi Arabia.

On Wednesday, various US media outlets described Ambassador Jones’ 20-second silence as "the longest ever pause" from a US official at any news briefing.

He was asked: "While you were over there, the secretary criticised the conduct of the Iranian elections and Iran’s record on democracy. He did so standing next to Saudi officials. How do you characterise Saudi Arabia’s commitment to democracy, and does the administration believe that democracy is a buffer or a barrier against extremism?"

Mr Jones kept quiet for a full 20 seconds after which he managed a stuttering response: "I think what we would say is that at this meeting we were able to, err, make significant progress with Saudi and GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] partners in both making a strong statement against extremism and also, and also putting err... putting in place certain measures through this GCC mechanism where we can combat extremism," he said.

And then he turned to Iran: "Clearly one source of extremism -- one source -- one terrorism threat is coming from Iran. And that’s coming from a part of the Iranian apparatus that is not at all responsive to its electorate."

Hashd Al-Shaabi crosses Syrian border into Rojava
(BasNews) Syrian-Iraqi border is too long and it cannot be fully controlled, says a PYD official

The Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) or known as Hashd al-Shaabi, which arrived at the Iraq-Syria border two days ago, have crossed the border into Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) and took control of two villages in Hasaka province in the region.

PMF managed a few days ago to reach the Iraq-Syria border in western Nineveh province in cooperation and coordination with Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS), a PKK-affiliated group in Sinjar.

Media activist Mohammed al-Ahmad from Hasaka told BasNews "Hashd al-Shaabi militia crossed the Syrian border at a depth of 10 km on Wednesday and took control of the villages of Qusayba and al-Bawardi, southeast of Hasaka."

"We will deal with any attempts by Hashd al-Shaabi to enter the areas under the control of our forces," said Talal Sillo, the spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed alliance against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (IS).

After reaching the border of Syria, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, commander of PMF Committee, said they would negotiate with Assad’s regime to cross the border into Syria, but a leader from People’s Defense Units (YPG), a PKK affiliate in northern Syria, told Asharq al-Awsat paper that they oppose the Iranian presence in the region and refuse to be a bridge between the Iraqi PMF and Syrian regime.

The Commander of Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) Security forces (Asayish), Jwan Ibrahim, called on his forces to beware of Iran and the Syrian regime as they are attempting to mobilise their [military] cells against us," according to Asharq al-Awsat.

Al-Muhandis said the military operations by the militia in the western areas of Nineveh aimed at clearing the Iraq-Syria border from IS bully boyz and their forces will chase the presence of the bully boyz even outside the Iraqi territories.

The media activist al-Ahmad told BasNews that the incursion of the "sectarian militia" forces into the borders of Syrian Kurdistan was in agreement with the Democratic Union Party (PYD), the Syrian wing of the PKK.

"The Syrian-Iraqi border is too long and it can not be fully controlled due to the battles in the area, therefore, limited violations may occur there," said Dara Mustafa, a PYD official. "When needed, our forces also cross the border for a few kilometers to chase some elements of the IS," he argued.

Abbas admits Trump yelled at him over incitement – report
[IsraelTimes] Speaking in Arabic at PLO executive committee meeting, ’tense’ PA leader reportedly says US president expressed anger, confirms meeting was ’uncomfortable’.

Following insistent Paleostinian denials that US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
shouted at Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
about Paleostinian incitement against Israel during their meeting last week, Abbas has conceded -- in Arabic -- that the story is true, according to a report by the London-based Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
i news site al-Araby al-Jadid.

Channel 2 News reported earlier this week that during their talks in Bethlehem last week, Trump yelled at Abbas and accused him of direct involvement in incitement against Israel.

"You tricked me in DC! You talked there about your commitment to peace, but the Israelis showed me your involvement in incitement," Trump was said to have shouted at a shocked Abbas.

The TV report said the outburst was followed by several minutes of stunned silence from the Paleostinians, and that the meeting was very tense before the two sides managed to get back on track.

Paleostinian sources denied the report, saying the meeting was comfortable and substantive.

According to Paleostinian sources quoted by the Qatari site, however, Abbas told an executive committee meeting of the Paleostine Liberation Organization in recent days that his encounter with Trump was "uncomfortable."

Abbas confirmed that the US leader expressed anger with him, accused him of inciting against Israel, and showed him videos that included one in which Abbas was recorded as saying, "We incite and the Israelis incite."

Abbas said he then told Trump that the videos only showed selections which had been edited and taken out of context.

He said he told the US leader, "You have the CIA, ask them to analyze the film clips and you’ll discover that that they were taken out of context or fabricated with the aim of inciting against the Paleostinians."

Trump’s anger was the result of Israeli government incitement against Paleostinians, Abbas claimed he told the US president, according to the sources.
I'll bet that went over well. Multiple examples of PA incitement against Israel as reported by various independent sources can be read at the link.
In the al-Jadeed al-Araby report, the sources cited by the paper described the PLO executive committee meeting as tense and said Abbas went kaboom! in anger in response to several members’ questions.

At the same meeting, Abbas reportedly slammed what he called a "conspiracy" by political rivals from within his Fatah party and from other organizations to exploit the recent hunger strike by Paleostinian prisoners in Israeli jails in order to undercut his authority.

Palestinian town refuses to rename center honoring terrorist

[IsraelTimes] The West Bank town of Burqa on Tuesday vowed that it "would never capitulate to pressure and blackmail" and would not rename a women’s center named after a female Paleostinian terrorist, after the facility’s international backers pulled their support and lambasted the Paleostinians for glorifying terrorism.
"The center has no intention of caving in to the pressure and changing its name," Burqa council head Sami Daghlas told the official Paleostinian Authority news outlet Wafa.

Last week, Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende condemned the Paleostinian Authority for naming the center after Dalal Mughrabi, who took part in the 1978 Coastal Road Massacre. Mughrabi and several other Fatah Lions of Islam landed on a beach near Tel Aviv, hijacked a bus on Israel’s Coastal Road and killed 38 civilians, 13 of them children, and maimed over 70. Oslo demanded its money back.

The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
also withdrew its support for the center over the "offensive name."

Fleeing Raqqa, 10,000 refugees mass at camp north of Syrian city: MSF
(Reuters) About 10,000 civilians have fled to a camp just north of Islamic State’s bastion of Raqqa with hundreds more arriving each day as the battle for the city nears, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said on Thursday.

Residents are escaping Raqqa under cover of night as U.S.-backed forces close in, taking their chances against minefields and hostile fighters rather than risking death in a major battle expected to begin soon.

“It is not a massive exodus, but about 800 people a day are arriving in Ain Issa every day,” Natalie Roberts, an emergency doctor from MSF France who had just returned from the region, told reporters.

The camp in Ain Issa village is run by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, which is made up predominantly of Kurdish fighters, who have now arrived to within 3 km (2 miles) of Raqqa and plan to press on with the assault on Islamic State.

The SDF had planned to make the camp a transit point for civilians. But the need to register each person and with many not having an alternative destination to travel to, the camp has expanded to beyond its 6,000-person capacity, Roberts said.

Conditions have deteriorated especially due to the summer heat. The United Nations and other aid groups have yet to establish themselves in the zone, she said.

MSF is providing basic care including vaccinations, maternity care and treatment of chronic conditions. People with war wounds, mostly caused by mines, are being sent to three MSF hospitals further north.

It is unclear how many people remain in Raqqa, Islamic State’s Syrian base of operations for more than three years and a major symbol of the cross-border “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. The city’s population was estimated at 200,000 before the recent departures.

Roberts said that coalition bombing in Raqqa had appeared to be well targeted so far, but that the city’s hospitals would not be equipped to handle the sort of injuries resulting from an intensification.

University of Missouri System begins layoffs at headquarters
[STLTODAY] The University of Missouri System began a major round of layoffs at its Columbia headquarters Wednesday in a cost-cutting move that appears to at least initially be affecting its lobbying and public-relations operations.

As of Wednesday afternoon, several sources confirmed numerous employees had been let go in the university relations department. However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the extent of the job losses at the headquarters was not clear.

The 18-person university relations department houses federal and state lobbyists, the custodian of records and nine communications employees.

The layoffs precede a big announcement expected Friday from system president Mun Choi on the final decisions about budget cuts at the system and all four campuses: Columbia, Rolla, St. Louis and Kansas City.

A representative for the university system declined to comment Wednesday but said that layoffs would be part of Friday’s announcement.

The ministry of public health officials said at least 80 people were killed and over 350 others were maimed in the attack.

The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
group, having close links with the Haqqani terrorist network, rejected the group was behind the attack.

aliban front man Zabiullah Mujahid in a statement said the group has no role in the attack and the Taliban fighters were also not involved in it as they are not allowed to carry out attacks in areas where there are no targets.

Mujahid also added that the group strongly condemns today’s attack in the city.

The Ministry of Interior front man Najib Danish said the attack was likely carried out using a truck full of explosives which exploded close to Zambaq square, place to several diplomatic missions, including some embassies.

The Ministry of Public front man Wahid Majroh confirmed that 80 people were killed and over 350 others were maimed in the attack.

Study: New taxes could fund universal California health care
[SFGATE] A longshot Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, proposal to replace insurance companies with government-funded health care for all of the state's residents could be paid for with a sales tax hike and a new tax on business revenue, according to a report released Wednesday.

The report said those taxes would generate $106 billion annually. It was made public by the influential California Nurses Association as the state Senate faces a Friday deadline to vote on the bill, which outlines how a single-payer health care system would function but does not say how it would be funded.

In a study commissioned by the nursing union, researchers at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst suggested a 2.3 percent sales tax and a 2.3 percent gross receipts tax, which would apply to all corporate revenue. Poor residents would get a tax credit to offset the higher sales tax.

Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Gov. Jerry Governor Moonbeam Brown
... those who ignore history are bound to repeat it ...
, both Democrats, have expressed skepticism about the proposal. If it were to clear the Legislature and be signed into law by Brown, it would need cooperation from President Donald Trump

Al-Shabab militants bombs Safaricom mast in Garissa
[SHABELLENEWS] Al-Shabaab
... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia...
snuffies destroyed a Safaricom mast at Fafi center, Garissa county, at about 10pm on Wednesday night.

Fafi sub-county OCPD John Ogola confirmed the attack, saying police were pursuing the myrmidons.

He said they were using alternative routes for fear of IEDs that have been used to kill several coppers in the last few days.

Ogola denied reports that the murderous Moslems also started a fire at a local primary school.

"For now all I can tell you is that a safaricom mast was blown up. Everything else being said is a rumour," he said.

On May 29, Aulian clan Sultan Hamud Mohammed expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
about the resurgence of al-Shabaab snuffies targeting security officers in Garissa and Mandera counties.
Seventeen people have been killed in two weeks.

He said security agents should go back to the drawing board and retrace their steps to find out what went wrong.

In Lamu on Wednesday morning, eight people, seven of them coppers, were killed when their armoured vehicle hit a landmine in Baure area.

The officers were on their way from Mangai to Mukoe in Lamu West to refuel the vehicle when the incident occurred at about 9am.

[SHABELLENEWS] Suspected al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
forces of Evil have burned down a school and kidnapped two teachers in an overnight attack in Fafi, Garissa.

The hard boys, armed with small arms and kabooms, also vandalised a mobile communication mast in the area.

The attackers destroy telecom masts during their attacks to disrupt police communication.

Northern and coastal Kenya have experienced a sharp rise in attacks linked to the Somalia-based terror group, in which security officers have been killed and security equipment destroyed.

The attack came hours after nine security officers and a civilian died on Wednesday after their vehicles ran over bombs in separate terror incidents in Lamu County.

The first kaboom happened at 8.30am, between Baure and Milimani, killing all seven coppers on board an armoured personnel carrier and the civilian passenger.

The officers from the Rural Border Patrol Unit of the Administration Police were travelling on the Kiunga-Hindi Road.

Military reinforcements were immediately dispatched and were moving to the scene when another explosive went off along their way, killing two Kenya Defence Forces soldiers and injuring another.

Yet another bomb went off between Kiunga and Ishakani later at 3pm.

Initial investigations shows the third kaboom was aimed at a military lorry but it went off just before the vehicle arrived at the spot.

UAE base in Somaliland to launch military operations
[SHABELLENEWS] The UAE’s controversial military base in Somaliland could become operational within the very near future, the autonomous region’s foreign minister said on Friday.

The base is still being constructed in Berbera, located 100km north east of the capital, Hargeisa, but UAE ships have already started docking at its deep-water port.

"We don’t believe the use of the facility will add to the uncertainty and the conflict in the region," Saad Ali Shire told Voice of America.

"UAE has already a base in Assab, Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
, which is operational, and the use of the base in Berbera is not going to add anything new to the conflict."

Shire was previously extremely vocal in his opposition to the UAE base in Berbera and once threatened to resign over the issue.

Neighbouring countries, Æthiopia and Djibouti were also opposed to the plan when it was first tabled, but appear to have changed their policies. Æthiopia will reportedly also be allowed to use the port once it is fully constructed.

The minister said he had changed his mind for "economic reasons".

"The agreement is [for] UAE to use Berbera airport and port as a military facility, and in exchange, the UAE will be building roads, a new airport, and funding health, education and water [and] energy," he said.

The UAE has opened a number of military bases in the region in order to assist in its conflict in Yemen.

The New Arab revealed the extent of the UAE’s involvement on the Yemeni island of Socotra earlier this month.

Shire said the military base would be used for "training, surveillance and military operations."

Robocop joins Dubai police to fight real life crime
[DAWN] A robotic policeman which can help identify wanted criminals and collect evidence has joined Dubai's police force and will patrol busy areas in the city, as part of a government programme aimed at replacing some human crime-fighters with machines.

If the "Robocop" experiment is successful, Dubai Police says it wants the unarmed robots to make up 25 percent of its patrolling force by 2030.

Clad in the colours of the Dubai Police uniform, the life-size robot, which can shake hands and perform a military salute, is the lighter side of a government plan to use technology to improve services and security ahead of Dubai hosting Expo 2020.

"These kind of robots can work 24/7. They won't ask you for leave, sick leave or maternity leave. It can work around the clock," said Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, director general of the Smart Services Department at Dubai Police.

The first automated policeman in the Middle East, the robot on wheels is equipped with cameras and facial recognition software.

It can compare faces with a police database and flag matches to headquarters. It can read vehicle licence plates and its video feed can help police watch for risks such as unattended bags in popular areas of Dubai, a financial and tourism hub.

Members of the public can also talk to the robot to report a crime or communicate with it using a touch screen computer embedded in its chest. Built by Barcelona-based PAL Robotics, and programmed by Dubai Police, the cost of the robot has not been disclosed.

Bahrain court dissolves secular opposition group
[DAWN] A Bahraini court dissolved a secular opposition party on Wednesday, a judicial official said, as authorities in the Gulf state kept up a crackdown on dissent.

The decision by the administrative court, just months after the main party representing the kingdom’s Shia majority was also banned, was swiftly condemned by human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
groups.

The justice ministry had requested the dissolution of the National Democratic Action Society (Waed) in March. It accused the party of "serious violations of the principle of respect for the rule of law", "support of terrorism" and "promotion of political change by force".

Bahrain has been rocked by unrest since 2011, when its Sunni rulers crushed protests demanding a constitutional monarchy and an elected prime minister.

Last week, police rubbed out five demonstrators in the home village of the spiritual leader of the kingdom’s Shia majority.

The Sunni left-leaning former head of Waed, Ibrahim Sharif, was released from prison last July after serving a one-year sentence for incitement against the government.

He had already served four years of a five-year sentence over the 2011 protests before being released under a royal amnesty in June 2015.

Southeast Asia
At least ten Philippine troops in Marawi friendly-fire airstrikes
[NPR] More than a week after ISIS-linked rebels seized Marawi, the Philippine military suffered a blow in its bid to retake the city: The country's defense secretary, Delfin Lorenzana, announced Thursday that an errant airstrike killed at least ten Philippine soldiers, wounding seven others.

"A group of our military army men were hit by our own airstrikes. The coordination was not properly done so we hit our own people," Lorenzana said in a text message.

Reuters reported the incident occurred "during the first offensive deployment of fixed-wing aircraft in the operation" against the Maute militants, who have pledged their loyalty to the Islamic State.

Shortly after the situation in Marawi descended into chaos, Philippine President Duterte declared martial law on Mindanao, suggesting he might soon broaden that emergency status nationwide. At a press conference last week, Duterte said, "If I think you should die, you will die. If you fight us, you will die. If there's an open defiance, you will die. And if it means many people dying, so be it. That's how it is."

From the outskirts of Marawi City, Al Jazeera reported, "Since the Philippine government announced martial law, there have been relentless air strikes, 'surgical air strikes' as the Philippine military described it. There have been organisations and civilians here who have been asking the government to stop the air strikes, simply because of the danger they pose for civilians."

Military spokesman Restituto Padilla said Thursday that the Philippine military does not intend to halt airstrikes after the incident, citing the need to combat enemy snipers in the city.

Government
S&P, Moody's Downgrade Illinois to Near Junk
[BLOOMBERG] Illinois had its bond rating downgraded to one step above junk by Moody’s Investors Service and S&P Global Ratings, the lowest ranking on record for a U.S. state, as the long-running political stalemate over the budget shows no signs of ending.

S&P warned that Illinois will likely lose its investment-grade status, an unprecedented step for a state, around July 1 if leaders haven’t agreed on a budget that chips away at the government’s chronic deficits. Moody’s followed S&P’s downgrade Thursday, citing Illinois’s underfunded pensions and the record backlog of bills that are equivalent to about 40 percent of its operating budget.

"Legislative gridlock has sidetracked efforts not only to address pension needs but also to achieve fiscal balance," Ted Hampton, Moody’s analyst, said in a statement. "During the past year of fruitless negotiations and partisan wrangling, fundamental credit challenges have intensified enough to warrant a downgrade, regardless of whether a fiscal compromise is reached."

Illinois hasn’t had a full year budget in place for the past two years amid a clash between the Democrat-run legislature and Republican Governor Bruce Rauner. That’s left the fifth most-populous state with a record $14.5 billion of unpaid bills, ravaged entities like universities and social service providers that rely on state aid and undermined Illinois’s standing in the bond market, where investors have demanded higher premiums for the risk of owning its debt. Moody’s called Illinois "an outlier among states" after suffering eight downgrades in as many years.

"The rating actions largely reflect the severe deterioration of Illinois’ fiscal condition, a byproduct of its stalemated budget negotiations," S&P analyst Gabriel Petek said in a statement. "The unrelenting political brinkmanship now poses a threat to the timely payment of the state’s core priority payments."

Illinois’s 10-year bonds yield 4.4 percent, 2.5 percentage points more than those on top-rated debt. That spread -- a measure of the perceived risk -- is the highest since at least January 2013 and more than any of the other 19 states tracked by Bloomberg.

IS Grand Mufti struck by coalition’s air force in Raqqa
Raqqa (BasNews) The Islamic State (IS) Grand Mufti Turki al-Binali, one of the senior IS leaders, was killed in an air strike of the International Coalition in the Syrian city of Raqqa in the past 48 hours, according to reports released on Thursday.

IS extremist group confirmed his death and began distributing his biography and obituary. Many considered Binali a natural successor of the IS leader Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi.

However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a report that “it is not yet known” whether the targeted IS member is Binali or another leader of the jihadist group since the body was transferred to a hospital in Raqqa, the IS stronghold in Syria.

Binali, 34, was originally from Bahrain and he moved to Libya in 2013 where he pledged alliance to IS and he also invited people to join the jihadist group. Later, he moved to Raqqa, the IS de facto capital in northern Syria where he was appointed as the IS Grand Mufti.

Iraq
PMUs liberate village, evacuate 300 families, south of Baaj
Baaj (IraqiNews.com) The paramilitary troops have cleared another village from Islamic State in south of Baaj city, within the troops advance to liberate the region, located west of Mosul.

In statements on Thursday, the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said troops liberated al-Khubra village, south of Baaj.

Moreover, “The troops besieged Ghelfas village, in west of Baaj,” the media service said.

“The 17th brigade foiled Islamic State militants’ attempt to infiltrate toward Harrada region, west of Mosul,” according to the statements. “One militant was killed, while the others ran away.”

In related news, “the troops evacuated 300 families from IS-held villages in south of Baaj.”

Close to the Iraqi-Iranian borders, Baaj is considered an important IS stronghold.

While major offensives take place in Mosul by Iraqi troops, backed by U.S.-led coalition, other offensives are launched by the paramilitary troops of al-Hashd al-Shaabi to liberate neighboring regions in Nineveh province.

Last week, the paramilitary troops launched a second phase of operations launched earlier this month to complete the liberation of villages in the vicinity of Qairawan, freed on Tuesday, ahead of advancing toward Baaj, west of Mosul city.

An offensive was launched by PMUs on May 12, which resulted in clearing of Qairawan region, a main Islamic State bastion in west of Mosul which links between Tal Afar town and the Syrian borders, from IS militants earlier this week.

Paramilitary leader says IS front defense line stormed, border crossing freed

(IraqiNews.com) Badr Organization has announced storming the front defense line of Islamic State and liberating a border crossing with Syria.

In a statement, Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the organization, which fights under the broader al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said “the troops resumed their advance for the second day in row liberating the Iraqi-Syrian borders.”

Amiri added that the troops raided the front defense line, used to support militants in Syria, through besieging Jayer Ghelfas exit.

PMUs, according to Amiri, “resume their advance toward Tal Sufouq border crossing, located west of Baaj. One of the villages was completely controlled.”

Previously on Thursday, the troops cleared al-Khubra village from Islamic State and announced besieging Ghelfas village in south of Baaj city.

after bringing their desert warfare expertise, commanded by Haider al-Ameri, to deadly effect in western Nineveh.

Targeting an ISIS-held area south of al-Ba’aj, the PMU were able to wrestle control over the village of al-Khibra on Thursday morning. Later on, the Iraqi contingents also took control of the nearby al-Sakaar housing complex.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, Bart was wondering if fisticuffs would be appropriate at this point...
the PMU leadership announced it would start operations to secure the entire border with Syria; if succesful, this major military endeavour would cut the regional caliphate in half and significantly hamper its logistics and maneuverability.

In addition, PMU chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandes announced that their forces would handover the entire border region to Syrian and Iraqi border guards once retaken.

With the PMU offensive heading southwards en route to the ISIS stronghold of al-Qaim, the PMU meanwhile denied it had crossed into Syria and said it was building trenches and barriers along the border to withhold ISIS counter-attacks.

Violence, armed conflicts leave 824 Iraqi casualties in May: UNAMI
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Violence and armed conflicts left 824 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of May, according to a monthly count released Thursday by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq.

“A total of 354 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 470 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in May 2017,” said UNAMI in its report.

The organization noted that the statistics does not include security personnel.

The report said that out of those, 160 civilians were killed and 52 were injured in Nineveh where Iraqi forces are engaged in a decisive, seven-month-old battle to eliminate Islamic State militants from Mosul, their largest stronghold in the country.

It counted 86 killed and 226 injured in the capital, Baghdad.

“According to information obtained by UNAMI from the Health Directorate in Anbar, the Governorate suffered a total of 136 civilian casualties (47 killed and 89 injured),” said UNAMI.

Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, decried the terrorists’ continued targeting of civilians, before and in the early days of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

“The terrorist Daesh is in its death throes in Mosul, but it has continued to stretch its wicked arm there and in other areas to relieve the military pressure on it, deliberately aiming to kill and maim the maximum number of civilians. Daesh has attacked with explosives a busy ice cream shop in Baghdad where families gathered at night after Iftar. The terrorists also hit on a street outside a government pension office in the capital, and struck as far as the city of Basra in the south.”

Resorts World Manila 'attack' that left 25 injured after masked man opened fire
[Mirror] A gunman who stormed a casino in the Philippines sparking a stampede which injured 30 people has killed himself, police said. The suspect was found dead from a gunshot wound which appears to be self-inflicted, authorities in Manila said.

The dramatic incident began with reports of gunfire and smoke coming from the Resorts World complex just after midnight local time.

The gunman was wielding an automatic gun but did not shoot at anyone, police said. He stole casino chips, shot at TV screens and then set some of the casino tables on fire.

Nonetheless, it sparked mass panic with people suffering serious injuries in the ensuing stampede. Some even jumped from windows, according to reports.

The Philippines has been battling a rising number of ISIS Lions of Islam in the south of the country and there were fears of a terror attack.

One message online appeared to claim responsibility for the attack on behalf of ISIS.

National police chief Ronald dela Rosa went on the radio to tell the public: "Don't panic, this is not a cause for alarm.

"We cannot attribute this to terrorism.

"We are looking into a robbery angle because he did not hurt any people and went straight to the casino chips storage room.

"He parked at the second floor and barged into the casino, shooting large TV screens and poured gasoline on a table setting it on fire," he said.

Military front man Restituto Padilla confirmed police were in control of the situation and the army was monitoring closely. Police, fire trucks and SWAT teams were called to the area, near Manila International airport, after smoke began billowing from the upper floor of the building.

Louisse Linan tweeted that Naia terminal 3 at the Manila International Airport was also in lockdown because of the incident at the nearby tourist complex.

Speaking outside the White House, US president Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said he was staying updated on the attack in Manila.

He said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people. It's very sad what's happening with terrorism around the world."

and saying he would behead Jews.

Shmael Heirouche, 40, was sentenced Wednesday in Cork Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to a charge of threatening to kill or cause serious harm, the Irish Independent reported.

Heirouche, who is of Moroccan ancestry, was diagnosed as schizophrenic in Holland.
But of course they set him free on his own recognizance, because locking him up and forcing him to take his medications is an abrogation of his civil rights -- and anyway, all the insane asylums were closed decades ago...
However,

Judge Sean O’Donnabhain called his threats a serious matter and noted that society had a right to be protected. Heirouche has refused to accept psychiatric support services, according to the report.

Heirouche praised Islamic State terror attacks in La Belle France to his French housemates saying that they gave him "great joy," and said that those who carried out the attacks would "get a first class ticket" to paradise, according to the report. At the time of his arrest he told officers that if he had a sword he would cut off the heads of Jews.

The housemates also told the court that Heirouche described them as Zionists and said that all Zionists should "have their throats cut."

Western Mosul Reconquest: IS squeezed into less than ten sq.km.
Police commandos besiege IS in old Mosul’s Zanjili, kill 12 militants

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Federal Police forces are besieging Zanjili district near western Mosul’s Old City, Islamic State’s last refuge there, and killed 12 militants, the force’s commander said Thursday.

Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat said in a statement that “special forces of Federal Police commandos” are encircling Daesh (Islamic State) in Zanjili after taking over their communication equipment. He said bombardment of the area under siege left 12 militants added, including several with Arab nationalities.

“Forces are continuing their incursions along 600 meters, and are approaching Bab Sinjar, the Old City’s northern entrance,” Jawdat stated.

Mass grave of relics of 60 civilians found in western Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A mass grave composed of relics of 60 civilians, including women, killed by Islamic State, was found in western Mosul,” a local source from Nineveh province has said.

“Security troops discovered a mass grave in al-Shifa district in western Mosul,” the source told AlSumaria News on Wednesday. “The grave contained relics of 60 civilians, including elderly people and 23 women who worked as employees and lawyers as their ID cards found in their possession showed.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, “IS shot the civilians dead in the head. They were transferred to forensic medicine department in Wadi Hajar to identify them and hand over their bodies to their relatives.

Coalition: Islamic State controlling less than 10 sq kilometers in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants are controlling less than ten square kilometers of land in western Mosul, a spokesperson of the U.S.-led coalition backing the campaign against the group said Thursday.

“Remaining #ISIS in W. #Mosul #Iraq hold less than 10 sq. km. This will arguably be some of the toughest fighting the #ISF will face,” Army Colonel Ryan Dillon, Spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), said on twitter, referring to Iraqi Security Forces sweeping through the last three districts around the Old City area which are still in IS grip.

Updated: sources: 5 civilians, including child, sniped by IS while fleeing Mosul enclave

(IraqiNews.com/Reuters) Five Iraqi civilians died Thursday by gunshots from Islamic State snipers while fleeing a district held by the group, security sources told Shafaaq News website.

The civilians were escaping Zanjili, where, the source said, Iraqi government forces regained control over 40 percent of areas on their way to invade the Old City. The source added that troops evacuated more than 150 families from the area.

About a dozen civilians were wounded on Thursday by Islamic State mortar shells as they tried to escape from the Zanjili district held by the militants in Mosul, Iraqi police said, according to Reuters.

Zanjili is part of the enclave that remains in the hands of Islamic State in the northern Iraqi city, alongside the Old City center and the Medical City hospitals complex.

U.S.-backed government forces began operations on May 27 to capture the enclave, regularly dropping leaflets telling families to flee.

The casualties from Zanjili were taken to a field clinic, said a police officer. They were part of the first group of civilians who have managed to escape.

Several dozen other civilians managed to reach government-held lines unhurt, using the same exit route, a police officer told Reuters.

The militants ordered dozens of families living in Zanjili district to move into the Old City to prevent them escaping toward the Iraqi forces, a resident told Reuters on Wednesday.

India-Pakistan
Fatwa against terrorism
[DAWN] WHEN violence is justified in the name of religion, it is best countered with the language of religion. Last Saturday, 31 prominent scholars from all Moslem schools of thought issued a unanimous fatwa condemning extremism and terrorism. Declaring the supporters of suicide kaboom as traitors, the religious decree defined jihad as being the purview of the state and disallowed the use of force to compel obedience to Islamic laws. The fatwa came at the conclusion of a national seminar organised by the International Islamic University in Islamabad to discuss the reconstruction of Pak society in the light of the Madina Charter. This document, often described as the oldest written constitution in the world, places emphasis on -- aside from various other issues -- peaceful resolution of disputes between people of different faiths, and the right of non-Moslems to autonomy and freedom of religion.

Granted, the fatwa contains little that is original: the Learned Elders of Islam have issued decrees along similar lines several times. There has been, in particular, a general consensus among them against suicide kaboom -- even if it has not always been unequivocal -- in which they have also been targeted. For instance, in 2009, Mufti Sarfaraz Ahmed Naeemi paid with his life for his robust condemnation of suicide kaboom in precisely such an attack. More recently, the JUI-F’s Maulana Ghafoor Haideri was injured when a jacket wallah struck his convoy, killing 27 people. The stance pertaining to jihad in the recently issued fatwa, however, is comparatively unusual. It harks back to the founder of Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
, Maulana Maudoodi, not to mention other religious scholars of yore, who held that only a state can declare jihad and no individual or group has the right to wage a private jihad of its own.

The eminently sensible, if obvious, assertions in the decree have been met with disapproval by Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
, who heads his own faction of the JUI. Known as the ’father of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
’ because his madressah in Akora Khattak, KP, is the alma mater of several senior Afghan Taliban -- including their late leader Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
-- the maulana has long been among the most strident supporters of militancy. Expressing concern over the fatwa, he contended that the rulers of the Moslem world were puppets of the West and could not therefore declare jihad against their masters. This is a perverse argument that has never lost currency among the ultra right and has been used to advocate armed struggle against the state. Certainly, resistance against the excesses of undemocratic or dictatorial regimes is morally justifiable, but its objective must be clear and violence should never be used to achieve it. Now, more than ever at this juncture, when various purveyors of violent extremism are creating mayhem in Pakistain and the region, it is important once again for religious leaders to reiterate the principles of peaceful coexistence.

#1  The Medina Charter referred to in the 1st para was, per Islamic history, issued in 620. It gave equal rights to non Muslims, including the Jewish tribes living near Medina.

By 627, Mohammud had found reasons to war against the Jewish tribes and they were wiped out (men killed, women enslaved).

video from Marawi, an embattled city in the southern Philippines which witnessed a large-scale ISIS uprising last week, prompting Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte to initiate a 60-day state of emergency in the province of Lanao.

...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...

Two consecutive ambushes have been conducted on armored vehicles since ISIS launched its insurgency, one of which was shown in the video. Dead government troops were still lying inside the vehicle.

College melts down over plan for white people-free day on campus
[NYPOST] After protesters at a Washington state college called for a day without white people, a biology professor says he no longer feels safe on campus -- and student activists complain they’re being vilified by conservative media.
I'd suggest they simply continue to a white people-free campus for good. See how that works out for them.
Evergreen State College students said racial tensions have been simmering in recent weeks, but reached a boiling point when a faculty member disagreed with their plans to protest what they say is institutional racism at the Olympia campus, according to The Olympian.
Any white person who comes back next semester is stoopid enough not to realize where they're not wanted.
Students were particularly incensed by an email that surfaced on Twitter on May 25 between Professor Bret Weinstein and Rashida Love, director of First Peoples Multicultural Advising Services. Weinstein, who is white, allegedly condemned the "Day of Absence" event that asked white people to leave campus for the day.
Individual choice, but mine would be to leave for good, preceded by wondering why I was there in the first place.
He called the day "an act of oppression in and of itself" and said he would visit campus in spite of the demonstration, according to USA Today.
I'd forget about the place. I kind of had, in anticipation, since I'd never heard of it before.
"If there was interest in a public presentation and discussion of race through a scientific/revolutionary lens, I would be quite willing to organize such an event," Weinstein wrote.
Talking about a "discussion of race through a scientific/revolutionary lens" sounds like he belongs there, regardless of what color he is.
In a YouTube video posted on May 27, a group of students is heard calling for Weinstein to be fired. Demonstrations have involved as many as 200 students pouring into classrooms and the school president’s office. "Hey-hey, ho-ho, these racist teachers have got to go," the students chanted in the video.
"Hey-hey, ho-ho," ain't that phrase ever gonna go?
Weinstein told news station KING that he was advised last week not to go to campus for safety reasons.
"Nice face yez got dere. Be a shame if somethin' happened to it!"
"I have been told by the Chief of Police it’s not safe for me to be on campus," Weinstein told KING. The station notes that Weinstein has spoken out in this year against increasing the role race plays in the admissions process.
How about "anybody can come in but white people?"
Multiple protest videos have been picked up by conservative media outlets, but the students disagree with the coverage, calling the footage "edited."
No doubt. No doubt.
"We demand that the video created for Day of Absence and Day of Presence that was stolen by white supremacists and edited to expose and ridicule the students and staff be taken down by the administration by this Friday," students said in a statement to the College Fix.
Demand in one hand, poop in the other. See which one needs to be wiped.

#15  Ahh... here it is...

Evergreen State College in Olympia will remain closed Friday after a "direct threat" was made to the campus.

The Olympia campus was closed suddenly Thursday out of an abundance of caution, spokesman Zach Powers said.

An unknown person made a threat of "campus violence" to Thurston County officials, he said. The college's president made the decision to close campus.

The county released a copy of the phone call. A male caller told a dispatcher: "I'm on my way to Evergreen University now with a .44 Magnum. I'm going to execute as many people on that campus as I can get a hold of. You have that? What's going on here? You communist, scumbag town? I'm going to murder as many people on that campus as I can. Just keep your eyes open you scumbag."

The college asked everyone to leave campus or return to their residence halls and await further instructions. The dorms were not on lockdown, according to a spokesperson at the college.

Olympia Police Department and the Thurston County Sheriff's Office were patrolling the campus and monitoring entrances when everyone was leaving.

A spokesperson said there was no known connection to last week's race-based protests. Demonstrations held last Tuesday and Wednesday involved around 200 students.

"Today we are putting ten shows, and their major corporate sponsors on notice that we are watching their every move," said Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center.

"We are putting the radical left on notice that we are on to them," he added.

The targeted shows on MSNBC are "Politics Nation with civil rights hustler Al Sharpton
...Tawana Brawley's spiritual advisor...
," "Hardball with Chris My Thigh is Tingling! Matthews
... the late Tip O'Neill's former gopher who has magazines with centerfolds of Barack Obama in his bathroom...
," "All In With Chris Hayes," "The Rachel Maddow Show," "The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell," and "AM Joy."

MRC also hits CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360," "CNN Tonight With Don Lemon," "Reliable Sources," and "Fareed Zakaria GPS."

The White House and GOP have been under fire on the shows, and the Republican National Committee Wednesday singled out one MSNBC show not on the MRC list: "Morning Joe."

"If there is a leader of the pack for the worst case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, look no further than MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,'" said Michael Reed, RNC's research director.

The group listed the advertisers of each show on its website. "We will be publicly listing the advertisers of these programs and asking them to defend their decision to continue airing ads on these shows. Every time one of their on-air personalities go beyond political commentary and engage in smear and hate, we are going to unleash an army of activists to contact these advertisers by phone and through social media to ask them why they are advertising on programs that are so biased, repulsive and morally bankrupt," said Bozell.

Seven Kenyan police, civilian killed by IED
[SHABELLENEWS] Seven coppers and a civilian were killed when an armoured vehicle drove over a roadside kaboom in southeastern Kenya, a week after 14 others died in similar attacks claimed by Shabaab Islamists, a police source said today.

"It’s unfortunate, we lost all the seven officers who were in the vehicle," a police brass hat in the coastal Lamu district near the Somali border, told AFP.

"All the bodies were found scattered in the thicket possibly thrown out on impact."

A police report seen by AFP noted that "seven administration coppers and one civilian died" as a result of the kaboom. It was not clear whether the civilian was in or near the vehicle at the time of the kaboom.

Last week 14 officers were killed in three separate blasts involving roadside kabooms in different regions of northeastern Kenya along the border with Somalia.

The Shabaab, a Somali-led jihadist group linked to al- Qaeda, grabbed credit for those attacks.

Inspector General Joseph Boinnet of the Kenyan police warned that more such attacks were likely during the holy month of Ramadan.

Judicial Watch obtains new classified Clinton emails
More on the subject of the article above.
[FoxNews] A nonprofit legal watchdog claimed Thursday that newly unearthed documents show Hillary Clinton sent and received more classified information on her private server than previously known, and that the papers also show top aide Huma Abedin did favors for Clinton Foundation insiders.

Judicial Watch released more than 2,000 pages of documents it obtained pursuant to a May 5, 2015 court order, after filing a lawsuit against the State Department for failing to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

The new documents included 115 Clinton email exchanges that were not previously turned over by the State Department.

“These shocking new Clinton emails show why the Justice Department should reevaluate, reopen, or reinvigorate Clinton, Inc. investigations,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said on Thursday. “The casual violation of laws concerning classified material and noxious influence peddling show the Clinton State Department was ‘corruption central’ in the Obama administration.”

According to Judicial watch, on Dec. 6, 2010, Clinton shared classified information with non-U.S. government employees Justin Cooper, an aide to former President Clinton, and Clinton Foundation Director Doug Band. The email allegedly shows Clinton instructing her aide to print the correspondence, which involved allegations of theft by Bangladeshi banker and Clinton Foundation donor Muhammad Yunus.

Yunus was accused of embezzling $100 million from the Grameen Bank, which he founded.

In another instance, on March 14, 2011, Judicial Watch says State Department official Maria Otero emailed Clinton information about the Grameen Bank, and it was deemed classified and “confidential” by the State Department, but later redacted.

Judicial Watch claimed Clinton responded to Otero using her HDR22@clintonemail.com account, and copied Abedin’s unsecure email account as well- huma@clintonemail.com.

Judicial Watch’s new emails appear to show multiple Abedin email exchanges from an unsecured server. They also appear to show that Clinton’s then-scheduler, Lona Valmoro, forwarded Clinton’s daily Secretary of State schedule to top Clinton Foundation officials, along with a “number of favors” that were requested.

In a May 10, 2010 email between Abedin and Band, Abedin said she “hooked up” people from the Russian American Foundation with the “right people” at the State Department. The Russia-American Foundation was then staffed by Clinton political supporters, according to Judicial Watch.

#1  Email tranche indicates or confirms:

1. Not all emails were delivered to the government as HRC said,
2. Emails did contain classified materials,
3. The emails were delivered to an off-site computer.
4. She lied to Congress under oath.
5. The emails acknowledge she knew classified materials were being sent to HDR22@clintonemail.com account, and copied to Abedin’s unsecure email account as well-huma@clintonemail.com.

Remember during the debates when Hillary was heard to say:

" If that f - - - ing bastard {Trump] wins, we all hang from nooses!"

No wonder there has been so much push back. The Clinton/Obama corrupt ball of yarn is beginning to unravel. Bottom line, this investigation should be re-opened and pursued with vigor or the Deep State will deep-six Trump--if that happens most likely civil war.

France's Macron Tells Trump That Paris Deal Will Not Be ‘Renegotiated'
[Daily Caller] France’s President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday that his country has no interest in taking up the Trump administration’s offer of renegotiating the terms of the Paris climate deal.

Macron told President Donald Trump that France will keep open lines of communication with Washington, D.C., but the country will no longer discuss climate issues with the U.S., a French source told Reuters.

He referred to Trump’s decision to pull the U.S. out of the non-binding climate deal, which seeks to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas levels many scientists believe contribute to manmade global warming.

"The president spoke with President Trump in a five-minute phone call. The exchange was direct," the source said about the conversation, adding that "nothing [in the deal] was renegotiable."
President Trump offered, they chose. Now we all can move on to something more meaningful.
