Truck crashes into 2 DC Police officers, terrorism not ruled out
[RT] Two suspects are in jug after a pickup truck crashed at high speed into three DC employees, including two coppers, one of whom is in "very critical condition," according to Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham.

Two MPD officers are being treated at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and one DC transportation department officer was also injured, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser told news hounds Thursday evening.

A white pickup truck struck the officers in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of the District of Columbia, an area that MPD Chief Newsham described as a "nightlife area."

A weapon was recovered from the truck, Newsham said.

"We have to look at that very closely," Newsham told a news hound who asked if he was ruling out terrorism. "We do not have a motive at this time."

Two occupants in the truck were tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
as suspects and sustained non-life threatening injuries, Newsham said.

One witness described hearing sounds that sounded like shots.

#3  The Washington Post has more, including names.

Bob Rogan, chief of staff to Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), ran from a coffeehouse and reached the truck’s dazed passenger as he climbed from the wreckage, a cut on his forehead. Rogan said the man told him that he and his friend had been to a club and smoked something.

“ ‘I told him not to do this,’ ” Rogan recalled the passenger saying. “ ‘I told him to slow down, and he wouldn’t slow down.’ ” Rogan said the driver remained behind the wheel, swaying slightly and appearing disoriented.

D.C. police arrested the two men in the pickup, both from a rural county in Virginia 40 miles south of Richmond, as investigators tried to piece together what caused Thursday night’s crash along the 2400 block of 18th Street NW, in the heart of one of the District’s most vibrant and busiest nightlife areas. A police report says that in the pickup’s back seat, investigators found a military-style weapon described as a Romarm Cugir rifle, the Romanian version of the AK-47. It was not clear why the men had the gun.

Police identified the driver as Brandon Figures-Mormon, 22, of Disputanta, Va., who was charged with assault with intent to kill and illegal possession of a firearm. They said the passenger was Dwayne Nicholas Taylor, 23, of Prince George, Va.

‘Death to Saudi & US’: Thousands of mourners attend funeral for Tehran attack victims
[RT] Thousands have turned out to mourn the victims of the Tehran attacks, shouting "Death to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
" and "Death to America." It comes after Iranian leaders accused Washington and Riyadh of supporting the attacks which killed 17 people earlier this week.

Crowds gathered on the streets of the Iranian capital to shout slogans against the US, Saudi Arabia, and Israel on Friday, while reaching out to touch coffins wrapped in flags and covered in flowers.

Earlier on Friday, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the attacks would only increase Tehran's hatred against the US and its "stooges" including Saudi Arabia.

The attack "will not damage the Iranian nation's determination and the obvious result is nothing except an increase in hate for the governments of the United States and their stooges in the region like Saudi (Arabia)," he said ahead of the funeral, according to state media.

#5  grom

The attack severely damaged the Mullahocracy's prestige, embarrassed the IRG, disrupted business in Tehran which surely cost the various crony capitalist types substantial amounts of money and ruined the day's events at the Khomenei mausoleum.

The false flag theory seems pretty thin.

#6  We don't know that the attack "severely damaged the Mullahocracy's prestige". We do know it generated a lot of internal outrage (the wars throughout ME that Iran is involved in are not exactly popular with Iranians), and garnered sympathy from the useful idiots. We also know that well orchestrated suicide attacks against hard targets are not common.

Twin ISIS suicide bombings kill at least 30, injure up to 40 in Iraq
[RT] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
is claiming responsibility for two kabooms which killed 30 and injured up to 40 in central Iraq. One blast rocked the Shi'ite holy city of Karbala, second only to Mecca in importance for pilgrims.

The first attack took place in Karbala, 100km south of Baghdad, at around 11:30am local time when a bomb went kaboom! at a city center bus depot, injuring five people, reports local media outlet Al Hurra news.

Hours later, at roughly 1:45pm local time, a jacket wallah attacked a busy market in Musayib, about 50km east of Karbala. It killed at least 30 and injured 35, according to Iraqi security sources cited by Rooters.

Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS) already grabbed credit for the attacks via their Amaq propaganda news network.

India-Pakistan
Japan and India Near Nuke Deal
The nuclear cooperation deal between Japan and India, first negotiated in November, just cleared a big hurdle in Tokyo. The Nikkei Asian Review reports:

Japan's ruling party on Wednesday pushed a nuclear cooperation deal with India through the upper house of parliament, clearing the way for Japanese exports of materials and technology to the South Asian country.

The deal is contentious because India has not signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, or NPT. […]

India stands to become the first nonsignatory to get access to Japanese nuclear tech. The governing Liberal Democratic Party accounted for most of the "aye" votes in the Diet, or parliament.

Following the approval, the government intends to revise relevant rules under the Nuclear Regulation Authority ‐ Japan's industry watchdog. Once India takes similar steps and the governments exchange documents, the deal will take effect, possibly by this summer.

On both economic and strategic grounds, this is a natural fit for both countries. Japan has immense nuclear expertise, but little domestic appetite for the technology after the Fukushima disaster; India is thus a natural export market. And Tokyo and New Delhi have been getting closer for several years now as they seek to balance against a rising China.
*cough* Pakistan *cough*
The deal's opponents argue that Japan is tacitly endorsing India's status as a nuclear armed-state, even though it has provisions that would void the deal if India resumes nuclear tests. But somehow, we suspect the United States‐which signed its own civilian nuclear deal with India in 2008, despite India's status outside the NPT regime‐is not too upset to see China's two most prominent regional rivals getting cozier.
Let's see....doesn't India have some nuke warheads laying around? What could they offer in trade, hmmmm?

Trump fends off 'Showboat' Comey and the federal zombies
[American Thinker] He pleaded the case of a loyal soldier, rather than forsake retired U.S. Army lieutenant general Michael Flynn to the mercies of FBI director James Comey. And he asked for loyalty from the congenitally disloyal. You'll agree: President Donald Trump is being indicted on technicalities and on personal style.

Distill the president's unremarkable actions, subject to a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, and it becomes clear that the establishment ‐ for sensible people outside the Beltway have dissociated from the Russia-collusion phantasmagoria ‐ is indicting Trump on the plain, impolitic speech that catapulted him from candidate to president.

Trump is "aggressive and oblivious to the rules of engagement," fumed CNN's sibilant Chris Cillizza, formerly of the Washington Post. Correct. But was the language of combat you deployed, Mr. Cillizza, a Freudian slip?

The president's linguistic infelicities ‐ a word salad, at times ‐ have given the press popinjays and their Washington overlords the foothold needed to go after him. Throw in the "bad" habits of a businessman he has retained. Trump transacts with everyone ‐ Russians, too. We voted for deals, not wars.

This is the sum and substance of President Trump's offenses ‐ and beating Hillary Clinton to the White House.

Proponents of free markets understand how business operates. Statists don't. To the statist, the Fake News fabricator, and the stark raving mad Washington Post (WaPo), "Trump sitting next to Russian Ambassador Yuri Dubinin, at a luncheon hosted by Leonard Lauder, the oldest son of Estée Lauder," in 1986, is incriminating evidence...of something.

More contractor criminal activity at Fort Gordon
[Aiken Standard] An active duty colonel at Fort Gordon, his wife and a third person have been indicted in case alleging bribes and kickbacks totaling $20 million, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Army Col. Anthony Tyrone Roper, 55; his wife Audra Roper, 49; and Dwayne Oswald Fulton, 58, a former employee of a defense contracting firm, all of Augusta, were indicted this week by a federal grand jury in Savannah, the news release said.

Further indictments are possible. A retired colonel referred to only as "CDL" in the indictment "aided and abetted by the Defendants and others, provided false and fictitious information and paid bribes to public officials.
This could get interesting.
The indictment doesn't specify who the other public officials are.

According to the news release, the indictment states the scheme began in 2008, continuing almost a decade. The scheme involved soliciting and accepting cash bribes in exchange for rigging more than $20 million in U.S. Army contracts, the release states.

According to the indictment, Anthony's responsibilities included oversight of the U.S. Army's efforts to build and modernize its information and communication network.

The indictment states he sought and received bribe payments in exchange for steering and awarding Army and private company contracts.

The scheme utilized various shell companies, such as Quadar Group and OzTEK Research LLC, the indictment continues.
Very likely sub-contractors (subs). Could we please have the names of the 'Prime Contractors and the Gov't Contract Officer Representative (COR)?
"The indictment further alleges that in an attempt to hide their bribery and fraud schemes, the Defendants attempted to obstruct an official investigation into their criminal conduct," the release states.

According to the indictment, the suspects would offer and give bribes, that included cash and no-show jobs in exchange for official acts.

Snowden defends Comey's disclosure of Trump memo
[The Hill] Former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden on Thursday defended former FBI Director James Comey's efforts to publicly disclose memos of his interactions with President Trump.

"Even if details leaked by the FBI Director fell under confidentiality obligations, the public's need to know here is the superior obligation," Snowden wrote on Twitter.

Comey acknowledged in a bombshell testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier Thursday that he had authorized a friend to share with a reporter the content of a personal memo detailing a conversation between him and Trump.

The memo, which Comey wrote contemporaneously, documented his Oval Office meeting with Trump in February when the president allegedly asked him to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Jim Cagliano on Comey testimony: 'I wanted to rinse myself off afterwords.'
[The Hill] A former FBI agent said he felt "completely disgusted" after reading the prepared testimony of former FBI Director James Comey regarding interactions with President Trump.

"I read this and I literally wanted to rinse myself off afterwards," James Gagliano said on CNN.

"I felt completely disgusted."

Gagliano's comments came after Wednesday's release of the opening statement Comey is set to deliver Thursday to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Trump repeatedly sought to influence the FBI's investigation into Russian election meddling before firing Comey as the bureau's director, according to the testimony Comey is set to deliver.

Comey's opening statement details multiple interactions with the president, including a January dinner at the White House where Trump said he needed and expected the FBI director's loyalty.

Gagliano on CNN also described the interactions between Trump and Comey.

"Beginning with that first awkward handshake that we saw on camera when Director Comey and the president met and ... it started out as a handshake, turned into kind of a half hug," Gagliano said.

"You could tell -- it was palpable -- how uncomfortable Director Comey was."

"For 48 years ... FBI Director [J. Edgar] Hoover pulled puppet strings, and had presidents on their heels," he added. "We now have a president that was attempting to put an FBI director on his heels."

Brussels attacks probe highlights intel sharing failures
[IsraelTimes] Belgian security experts say there was little pooling of info between various levels of law enforcement after 2016 bombings.

An investigation into the Brussels suicide kabooms last year has highlighted failures in intelligence sharing among the security services as well as their "limited" information about radical networks.

The parliamentary committee probe also found that the security services failed to thoroughly follow up information about the men would carry out the attacks on the metro and airport in March 2016 that killed 32 people.

"The absence of an information-sharing culture constitutes the main gap within and among the security services," the report said.

Fifteen years after major reforms, the committee complained of "compartmentalization which blocks comprehensive information management."

Belgian security experts said just after the attacks there was little sharing of information among the six police zones in Brussels or between the federal police and local police or between the state security services and local forces.

The report said there was a failure to follow up in the cases of Khaled and Ibrahim El Bakraoui before the former went kaboom! at Maalbeck metro station and the latter set off his suicide bomb at Zaventem airport.

It recommended that the security services deploy liaison officers at Belgian embassies in countries that play an important security role, such as in Turkey.

"The information position of our security services is too limited in radical circles and on social networks, for example," the report said.

, which claimed the Brussels attacks, communicate using social networks.

The report also recommended better coordination among the different police, intelligence and security services as well as reinforcing and streamlining their resources.

It called for better handling of evidence or potential evidence, referring to the February 2015 seizure of the cell phone of Brahim Abdeslam, who took part in the November 2015 Gay Paree attacks, in a drugs case.

An analysis of the phone’s contents revealed nothing and officers did not follow up until after French police found that Brahim Abdeslam had blown himself up in Gay Paree and that his brother Salah Abdeslam was a runaway in the case.

But it said the phone had disappeared and was only found a year later under a pile of papers in the Brussels cop shoppe where Brahim Abdeslam had been questioned in the drugs case.

Comey Associate Who Leaked Memos to Press Identified as Columbia Prof Daniel Richman
[Free Beacon] Former FBI Director James Comey revealed Thursday that he provided excerpts of his memos to a friend with the understanding that they would be given to reporters.

Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that after President Donald Trump tweeted that he might have "tapes" of their conversations, he realized his private memos might set the record straight.

US Arrests, Charges Naturalized Hizbullah 'Operatives'
[AnNahar] Two naturalized Americans from New York and Michigan have been charged with terrorism, accused of operating on behalf of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
in the United States, Panama and Thailand, US officials announced Thursday.

Ali Kourani, 32, and Samer el Debek, 37, were tossed in the slammer
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
on June 1 in the Bronx and just outside bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
, respectively, US officials said. They appeared before US magistrates separately.

Both were hit with a raft of charges that include providing material support to Hizbullah -- which Israel and the West consider a terror group -- weapons offenses and receiving military-type training from group.

If convicted they could spend decades in a US prison.

Debek, on Hizbullah's payroll for years, conducted surveillance in Panama, where he scoped out the US and Israeli embassies and assessed vulnerabilities of the Panama Canal and ships passing through it, US officials said.

Kourani allegedly monitored potential targets in the United States, including military bases in New York, acting Manhattan US Attorney Joon Kim said.

Hizbullah is the most powerful gang in Leb. Although blacklisted as a terror group in the West, it enjoys widespread support in Leb because of its "resistance" to Israel and social welfare programs.

US officials said Kourani received weapons training from Hizbullah as a teenager in Leb before moving to the United States legally in 2003, to obtain degrees in biomedical engineering and business administration.

They alleged that he was recruited into Hizbullah's operations unit Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
in 2008, and the following year became a naturalized US citizen.

He communicated with his handler through coded emails, and received bouts of weapons training and drills on tactics in Leb, US prosecutors said.

In the United States, he allegedly scoured for firearms suppliers, Israeli military personnel, airport security information and surveilled US military and law enforcement facilities in New York, sending information back to Hizbullah.

US officials say Debek visited Thailand in May 2009 on his US passport, tasked with cleaning up explosive precursors in a Bangkok house that had been abandoned by others because they were under surveillance.

In 2012, he went on a Hizbullah surveillance mission to Panama, tasked with identifying areas of weakness at the Panama Canal and providing information about how close someone could get to a ship passing through the Canal, officials said.

Panama's government expressed "satisfaction" over the arrests, saying "it maintains active cooperation with international intelligence bodies to prevent this type of threat."

The statement said US authorities had alerted Panama in 2014 that Debek might try to enter that country, and "actions were immediately taken in line with the law to impede his entry."

Debek allegedly told the FBI that he was detained by Hizbullah from December 2015 to April 2016, and falsely accused of spying for the United States.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation believes that his military training included extensive instruction on bomb-making.

Mohammed Allan was detained for questioning "as part of the struggle against the phenomenon of Paleostinian incitement in media and social media, which leads to severe attacks in Israel," the Shin Bet says.

The 32-year-old resident of Einabus in the northern West Bank was arrested for "inciting through the media while calling for acts of terror and resistance to the ’Zionist enemy,'" it says.

In November 2015, Allan was released from a year in jail under an Israeli measure known as administrative detention, which allows imprisonment without trial for six-month periods renewable indefinitely.

Allan began a hunger strike in June 2015 that brought him near death and also boosted tensions in the occupied West Bank, with Israel announcing in September that it would not be extending his detention.

Arab Israeli brothers charged in Hamas plot to murder Israeli officer
The family that plots together...
[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet says Adam and Firas Faki were at heart of planned killing, intended to avenge March’s death of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror chief Mazen Faqha.

Four Arab Israelis were charged Thursday with serious offenses connected to an alleged plan to assassinate an Israeli army officer in Dire Revenge for the shooting death in Gazoo in March of Mazen Faqha, a Hamas terror chief. Three further suspects are in jug.

Faqha was tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for life for orchestrating a 2002 suicide kaboom that killed nine people, but was released along with more than 1,000 other Paleostinian prisoners in exchange for Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier who was held by Hamas for five years. In Gazoo, he oversaw efforts to recruit cells to carry out terror attacks from the West Bank against Israeli targets. He was killed on March 24 by unknown gunnies.

In May, Hamas executed three men it accused of the liquidation and of collaborating with Israel.

The alleged Dire Revenge plot came to light after security services detained seven residents of the central Israeli town of Jaljulia, near Kfar Saba, on suspicion of dealing illegally in weapons.

One of them -- Mahmood Muhammad Abed al-Karim Daud -- revealed details of two brothers involved in the attack plan while under interrogation, the Shin Bet security services revealed Thursday.

The brothers, also from Jaljulia, are Adam Ismail Muhammad Faki, born in 1992, who is known to police for criminal activity, and Firas Ismail Muhammad Faki, who is two years older, known to the security services for his support for the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. movement and for planning criminal and security-related activities in his hometown.

Firas Faki was one of four Jaljulia residents detained in December 2015 on suspicion of illegal arms dealing and taking part in riots.

The details form part of a charge sheet submitted by central district prosecutors to the central district court on Thursday.

According to the Shin Bet, during a trip Adam Faki took to the Gazoo Strip in December 2014 for a family wedding, he was recruited to Hamas by two Hamas activists -- his half brother Muhammad and another man, Hassan al-Matsi.

While in the Strip, Adam Faki took part in military training and shooting practice. Also participating was Hassan Jabari, a senior Hamas figure and brother of the late Ahmed Jabari, who served as acting head of the terror organization’s military arm when he was killed in an Israeli Air Force strike on the enclave in 2012.

Muhammad Faki told his half-brother Adam to acquire weapons, identify a victim and recruit a helper, the charge sheet said.

Adam subsequently tried to get hold of two pistols and silencers from another Jaljulia resident, Yassin Mar’ari.

Adam’s brother Faras was locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on suspicion of having known about the plan and even of helping half-brother Muhammad to contact Adam secretly via his cellphone.

The Shin Bet said that the incident highlighted the risk of weapons circulating among criminals being transferred to terrorists.

The investigation also showed how Hamas was "exploiting Israel’s humanitarian policy" vis a vis the Gazoo Strip for terrorist purposes, the Shin Bet added, using family visits and permits for merchants or patients needing medical treatment to go in and out of the enclave.

In November, the Shin Bet arrested another resident of Jaljulia suspected of planning to join IS in Syria.

ISIS executes 230+ for leaving Mosul
Update from a previous story
[ARA News] Credible reports indicate that at least 231 civilians attempting to flee western Mosul have been killed by ISIS fire since 26 May, including at least 204 over three days last week alone, the UN reported on Thursday.

“The UN Human Rights Office has been documenting ISIL’s use of civilians as human shields and its slaughter of those attempting to flee since the start of the Mosul operation, but recent reports indicate a significant escalation in such killings,” the UN said in a statement.

“On 26 May, ISIL reportedly shot at civilians trying to flee al-Shifa neighbourhood in western Mosul, killing 27 people, including 14 women and five children. Their bodies were reportedly buried two days later by neighbours,” the UN stated. Moreover, the UN reported other incidents, such us the killing of 163 civilians in the al-Shifa neighbourhood on 1 June, and on 3 June, ISIS shot at least 41 civilians in the same location, while they attempted to flee ISIS.

“Shooting children as they try to run to safety with their families – there are no words of condemnation strong enough for such despicable acts,” UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said. “I call on the Iraqi authorities to ensure that those who are responsible for these horrors are held accountable and brought to justice in line with international human rights laws and standards. The victims of such terrible crimes must not be forgotten.”

“The murder of civilians, as well as the intentional directing of an attack against civilians who are not directly taking part in hostilities, are war crimes,” the UN said.
Furthermore, the UN said there are reports of civilian casualties by air strikes.

”The [UN] High Commissioner called on the Iraqi Security Forces and their Coalition partners to ensure that their operations comply fully with international humanitarian law and that all possible measures are taken to avoid the loss of civilian lives. He urged the Iraqi authorities to ensure that any allegations of human rights violations committed by Iraqi Security Forces are also fully investigated and those responsible held accountable,” the UN said.

Dave Eubank from the Free Burma Rangers also confirmed the reports in an email to ARA News. Eubank was operating with his group in West Mosul on 1 June.

“With God’s help, and Iraqi Army and police, and U.S. military, we were able to do the rescue. We saw over 50 shot dead by ISIS yesterday and today, and helped 30 shot people who managed to escape,” he said on 2 June.

“All last night people came crawling across the highway near the hospital near the first bridge. Early this morning we saw that at least four people were still alive including children, but ISIS controlled all access and swept the area by sniper, machine gun, mortar, and RPG fire. There was no way to help them even though they were only 150 yards away,” he said.

His group that is trying to help injured civilians, and tries to save civilians from ISIS, they have seen around 50 dead bodies spread out along the street. “Dead babies, mothers, and people of every age – and had been like this for two days in the blazing sun and ISIS shooting,” Eubank told ARA News.

However, due to the US providing support to his group and the Iraqi army, his group saved several civilians after the US provided a smoke screen in Western Mosul.

city that is the birthplace of the krazed killer group, police said Thursday. The attack came just hours before a visit by the country's acting president.

The jihadists attacked late Wednesday in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, as evening prayers were ending, targeting four locations around the city. Thirteen people were killed, including four attackers, Police Commissioner Damian Chukwu said.

Extremists also clashed with soldiers outside the city in Alidawari village and Jiddari Polo suburb, where homes were set on fire, Chukwu said. Nigerian forces killed three Boko Haram holy warriors in that fighting, he said, and one attacker was captured alive.

Acting president Yemi Osinbajo arrived in Maiduguri on Thursday to launch a food relief program for hundreds of thousands of people who have fled their homes in the wake of Boko Haram attacks in the region. The eight-year insurgency has killed more than 20,000, kidnapped thousands and spilled into neighboring countries, creating a vast humanitarian crisis with thousands said to be near starvation.

The attacks late Wednesday in Maiduguri took place in various locations around the Chad Basin Development Authority headquarters just before 9 p.m., resident Alhaji Bashir said. The targets included a mosque, he said.

Young members of a civilian defense group, who have come together to combat the Islamic krazed killers, saw one jacket wallah at the headquarters. "One of the youth vigilantes rushed to hold him, and the bomb went off and killed the suicide bomber and three other persons," Bashir said.

In another attack, a exploding trollop female suicide bomber entered a crowd of worshippers leaving prayers and detonated her explosives, he said.

Dozens of injured people filled the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Thursday, said Abba Shehu, a private security worker.

Iraqi forces fingered for massacre in Mosul
Mosul (Reuters) The killers made no attempt to hide the bodies of the 15 men they shot dead by the side of a road cutting across wheat fields in northern Iraq.

Blindfolded and bound, the victims lay decomposing in plain sight of the occasional car that drives along this route scattered with spent bullet casings. Two of the men had been marched a short way into the field, where one was apparently forced to kneel before being shot from behind.

Prostrated beside him, the other man wore faded jeans. In his back pocket was an ID card: Qusay Mohammad, age 31.

Hamas Leader Killed In 'Accidental' Gaza Explosion
In which we are given a name for yesterday's unknown explodee.
[JPOST] A prominent leader of Hamas' Izzadin Kassam brigade was killed Wednesday in an "accidental" explosion in southern Gaza, according to PA news outlet Ma'an.

The explosion occurred at a Hamas post near Rafah, injuring three other militants, according to the Palestinian news agency.

Hamas described Ibrahim Hussein Abu al-Naja as a prominent leader and said the source of the explosion was not clear.

This is not the first time militants have been killed in mysterious Gaza Strip explosions, with Ma'an reporting that numerous Hamas "resistance posts" have been destroyed over the past few years.

On April 26, an "accidental" explosion killed an Islamic Jihad military member during preparatory work in the site, the terrorist group announced.

The Gaza Ministry of Health later stated that another Palestinian was wounded in the same "accident."

Saudi soccer team refuses to pay tribute to London terror victims
[Iran Press TV] Saudi Arabia’s national soccer team has come under criticism for its refusal to observe a minute’s silence for the London attack victims during a recent match with Australia.

Before the World Cup qualifier in Adelaide on Thursday, the Australian national soccer team lined up in the center of the field to keep silence over the killing of two Australian women killed in last week's terror attacks in London.

However, the Saudi team continued jogging, passing the ball and taking their positions on the field. Pictures show a Saudi player, Salman al-Faraj, facing the Australian team with his hands behind his back.

Saudi Arabia's footballers SNUB a minute's silence for London Bridge terror victims

[DailyMail] Pictures show the Australian team lined up at the halfway mark, with the Saudi players ignoring the gesture as they get in formation to start the game.

Saudi players on the bench refused to stand for the minute's silence.

A spokesperson from the Football Federation Australia told Daily Mail Australia they had been advised prior to the match that the Saudi team would not be taking part.

'The FFA sought agreement from the Asian Football Confederation and the Saudi national team to hold a minute's silence in memory of those lost in Saturday night's terror bombings in London and in particular the two Australian women,' the spokesperson said.

'Both the AFC and the Saudi team agreed that the minute of silence could be held.

'The FFA was further advised by Saudi team officials that this tradition was not in keeping with Saudi culture and they would move to their side of the field and respect our custom whilst taking their own positions on the field.

Albanian ISIS 'commander' from Kosovo killed
[RFE/RL] The self-proclaimed commander of Albanians fighting with the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq has been killed there, the leader of the Muslim community in his hometown of Kacanik said.

Florim Neziraj said that Lavdrim Muhaxheri's brother had informed him of Muhaxheri's death earlier in the day. He said family members told him that Muhaxheri was killed by an air strike in Syria and asked him to notify the Islamic community of his death.

Muhaxheri, an IS fighter who has declared himself as the "commander of Albanians in Syria and Iraq," is notorious in Kosovo for a video posted on the Internet in 2014 showing him beheading a man in Iraq. Another video showed him killing a person with a rocket-propelled grenade.

In November, officials in Kosovo said they had arrested 19 people on suspicion of having links to the Islamic State and planning to carry out terrorist attacks. Police said the suspects had received orders from Muhaxheri.

Muhaxheri's death was announced over mosque speakers in Kacanik, in keeping with tradition when someone from the community dies. This decision caused criticism in Kosovo. But Neziraj said, "We are serving every citizen and the mosque belongs to everyone."

House passes sweeping bill to strip back financial rules
[THEHILL] The House of Representatives on Thursday passed sweeping legislation to strip and replace much of the financial regulations passed under President B.O. after the 2008 financial crisis.

The House passed the Financial CHOICE Act 233-186, along party lines. The bill is not expected to pass the Senate.
Why not?
Sponsored by House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), the CHOICE Act is the most ambitious Republican effort to roll back the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, passed in 2010. Republicans have long targeted Dodd-Frank, saying it has created a crushing regulatory burden that suffocates small businesses and banks while empowering unaccountable babus bureaucrats.

"Dodd-Frank represents the greatest imposition on our business enterprises than all Obama era regulations combined," Hensarling said Thursday morning in a briefing with news hounds. "In many respects, it was not a response to the financial crisis, but a grab bag of leftist ideas that were waiting on the shelf for quite some time."

Britain
Mother of London attacker ‘believed he was under police control & not dangerous’
[RT] The mother of Youssef Zaghba, one of the three men responsible for the deadly vehicle and stabbing attack on London Bridge, says she never believed her son’s terrorist intentions, especially after years of close police surveillance.

“I never thought he could have done anything violent I always tried to talk to him, there are no words, the pain is too big, the pain I feel as a mother. I don't know if it makes sense to ask for forgiveness, if it would make sense I would ask for it,” Valeria Khadija Collina said during an interview at her home in Bologna, in northern Italy.

Collina believes her son was “not dangerous” at the time, and that the only reason he got stopped in Bologna on his way to Istanbul was because he carried only a small backpack, had a one way ticket and that he misspoke at the border, saying, “terrorist instead of a tourist.”
Collina met her Moroccan husband and converted to Islam before giving birth to Youssef in 1995. Zaghba was identified earlier this week as the third terrorist involved in the London Bridge attack which left eight people dead and 48 others injured.

The Moroccan-born Italian attacker was briefly detained in Bologna last year, presumably while trying to reach Syria through Turkey to join the ranks of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists.

According to his mother, Zaghba planned his trip to Syria for at least a year prior to his detention in March 2016. His motive, to start a new life.

“When my son wanted to go to Syria, in 2015, what he said, and I believe that, was that he didn't want to go for fighting but to live in an Islamic country, to work and make a family,” Collina says.

Collina believes her son was “not dangerous” at the time, and that the only reason he got stopped in Bologna on his way to Istanbul was because he carried only a small backpack, had a one way ticket and that he misspoke at the border, saying, “terrorist instead of a tourist.”

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Obama Admin ‘Systematically Disbanded' Units Investigating Iran's Terrorism Financing Networks
[Free Beacon] The Obama administration "systematically disbanded" law enforcement investigative units across the federal government focused on disrupting Iranian, Syrian, and Venezuelan terrorism financing networks out of concern the work could cause friction with Iranian officials and scuttle the nuclear deal with Iran, according to a former U.S. official who spent decades dismantling terrorist financial networks.

David Asher, who previously served as an adviser to Gen. John Allen at the Defense and State Departments, told the House Foreign Affairs Committee Thursday that top officials across several key law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the Obama administration "systematically disbanded" law enforcement activities targeting the terrorism financing operations of Iran, Hezbollah, and Venezuela in the lead-up to and during the nuclear negotiations with Tehran.

"Senior leadership, presiding, directing, and overseeing various sections [of these agencies] and portions of the U.S. intelligence community systematically disbanded any internal or external stakeholder action that threatened to derail the administration's policy agenda focused on Iran," he testified.

Asher now serves on the board of directors of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies' Center on Illicit Finance and is an adjunct fellow at the Center for New American Security, two national security think tanks.

He attributed the motivation for decisions to dismantle the investigative units to "concerns about interfering with the Iran deal," a reference to the nuclear deal forged between the U.S., five other world powers, and Iran during the final years of the Obama administration.

As a result, "several top cops" retired and the U.S. government lost their years of expertise.

US-backed rebels pound Syrian Army positions on the Damascus-Baghdad highway
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Thursday, Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) rebels based in the Syrian Desert bombarded checkpoints controlled by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and allied paramilitary factions on the Damascus-Baghdad highway in southeastern Homs.

Using GRAD rockets and artillery guns, the FSA’s Osoud al-Sharqiya, Ahmad al-Abdo Martyrs Brigade and Maghwar al-Thwara struck SAA positions around the Zaza checkpoint which was liberated last month by Syrian government forces whom hope to reach the strategic al-Tanf border crossing, thus creating a land route to territory held by the friendly Iraqi Army.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion...
the US Airforce conducted a new wave of sorties against the SAA, destroying multiple technicals and killing an unknown number of military personnel.

Despite hostilities by the US and its vetted proxies, the SAA is steadily advancing towards the al-Tanf crossing while simultaneously capturing turf on the provincial border with Sweida.

Washington has so far warned the SAA to stay outside a 55 kilometer buffer zone covering the al-Tanf border area are where US special forces have established a military base.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the SAA has not adhered to the US buffer zone. On Thursday morning, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) also bombed US-backed Kurdish fighters in northern Syria in retaliation over the ongoing American aggression.

Virginia Imam Says Genital Mutilation Of Little Girls Can Help Tame Their Sexuality
[DAILYWIRE] A Virginia imam is advocating for female genital mutilation, or FGM, despite the fact that the practice is illegal in the United States.

Imam Shaker Elsayed of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, appears to believe that abusing women under the guise of religious purity codes is morally virtuous.

Mutilating a little girl’s genitals today can prevent “hypersexuality” in the future, says Imam Elsayed in a sermon to parishioners. After suggesting that the more extreme forms of mutilation may need to be avoided, the imam lectures his parishioners about seeking guidance from Muslim gynecologists familiar with the illegal procedure.

FGM is "the honorable thing to do if needed,” he preaches, detailing the supposed virtues of the horrifying practice. Imam Elsayed explains:

"[Cut] the tip of the sexually sensitive part of the girl so that she is not hypersexually active...in societies where circumcision of girls is completely prohibited, hypersexuality takes over the entire society and a woman is not satisfied with one person or two or three."

ISIS woman dies in IED attack in Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State’s so-called “Black Widow” female member was killed in a bomb blast that occurred outside her house on the outskirts of Hawija town, southwest of Kirkuk, a local source in the province said on Thursday.

“A prominent female leader with the Islamic State’s female wing called the ‘Black Widow’ was killed today in a blast caused by a bomb placed near her house on the outskirts of Hawija,” the source told AlSumaria News.

“The member is a widow of one of IS leaders who was killed around a year ago in an airstrike. A prominent female member in Hawija, she used to work for the IS Hisbah (vigilantism) department,” the source who preferred anonymity added.

Hisbah committees are IS’s religious law enforcement arm, which arrests whoever violates the group’s extreme religious rules and carries out sentences issued against them.

Hawija, located 55 KM west of Kirkuk, has been held by IS since mid-2014.

Dozens of residents from Hawija and the regions in its vicinity escape to Kirkuk province on a daily basis. Despite the risky routes to the freed regions, the civilians prefer death to staying under IS control.

Last month, news reports quoted sources as saying that the extremist group opened alternative headquarters for its so-called “Nineveh State, “Dijlah State”, “Salahuddin State” and “Diyala State” in Hawija.

Poland receives first shipment of American liquefied natural gas
[RT] "The Department of State has worked closely with European partners to diversify European energy supplies through new sources of natural gas, vital interconnectors and new facilities to import LNG. The United States congratulates Poland on this significant step to diversify its own sources of energy and to strengthen Europe’s energy security," Washington said in a statement.

While Europe has been trying to find alternatives to Russian gas, the cost of shipping from the US remains high and demands significant infrastructure investment.

The LNG shipped to Poland is from the Sabine Pass liquefaction facility on the Gulf of Mexico coast. As of now, it is the only LNG exporting facility in the US since the start of the shale revolution. Last year, the first delivery of American LNG to Europe arrived in Portugal.

Poland has been one of the fiercest opponents of Russian gas expansion in the European market and wants to become a huge re-seller of LNG in Europe after building an LNG terminal at the port of Swinoujscie.

While Russia supplies about 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) a year of Poland’s gas needs, the new Polish terminal has a capacity of 5 bcm which can increase to 7.5 bcm. Last year, LNG made up less than 10 percent of Polish gas consumption.

Officer, Bystander Shot; Suspect Killed In Dundalk Shooting
[BALTIMORE.CBSLOCAL] Authorities are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Dundalk Wednesday afternoon.
Dundalk is a working class neighborhood just outside Baltimore.
The officer was trying to question the suspect, but police said instead of cooperating, he pulled out his weapon and started shooting.

The incident began just after 2:45 p.m., when police got a call about an armed robbery near the Logan Village Shopping Center in the 3400 block of Dundalk Ave near Avon Beach Road.

Police said when they got there, the suspect was trying to make a getaway on an MTA bus. When they tried to stop him, things quickly escalated.

"Shoved a gun in the guy’s face and was like give me all your money," the woman who called police said.

"When the police responded out here, they were able to locate what they thought was the MTA bus involved. They stopped the MTA bus and they engaged the suspect," said Jennifer Peach of the Baltimore County Police. "At some point during that engagement, the suspect fired shots at the officers. The officers then returned fire and shot the suspect."

"He told her to back up. He said it like 3 or 4 times and he had the gun aimed at her and he let off a fire. He shot the gun and we’re all ducking," the woman said.

The suspect was shot, and later died from his injuries.

A female Baltimore County Police Department officer was shot in the leg, and was taken to a hospital.

"They had the bus surrounded, shots started being fired," said witness Clayton Brown. "The bullet went by me and hit the sign. The officer went down, that scared me more than anything."

A bystander was also shot. Both are at death's door.

About a dozen people were on the bus during the shootout.

The female bystander is expected to survive.

Police say they have body-camera footage of the incident and also footage from the MTA bus.

Nearby schools were placed on lock-down.

"I was hysterically crying all the way here. It kind of makes me emotional again," Jayne Blair said.

"She would have never got shot had I not called and he wouldn’t be dead had I not called, and I feel like crap," the caller said.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Comey: AG Lynch Directed Me to Call Hillary Email Investigation a ‘Matter’
[BREITBART] Thursday during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, former FBI Director James Comey said former Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch had asked him to call the FBI investigation into former Secretary of State and then-Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
’s handling of classified information on a private email server a "matter."

Comey said, "There were other things that contributed to that. One significant item I can’t. I know the committee’s been briefed on. There’s been public accounts of it which are nonsense. But I understand the committee has been briefed on the classified facts. Probably the only other consideration I guess can talk about in an open setting is at one point the attorney general had directed me not to call it an investigation but instead to call it matter, which confused me and concerned me. But that was one of the bricks in the load that led me to conclude I have to step away from the department if we’re to close this case credibly."

#2  To recap:

1. Clinton is a clueless rascal who can't handle classified, but we won't pursue due to lack of 'intent.'
2. The Russians are evil manipulating bastids.
3. Trump is a liar whom can't be trusted.
4. The media is evil and often gets it wrong.
5. Jeff Sessions and the Russians are in cahoots.
6. Lynch manipulated the FBI mission, but I went along with it because she was my boss.
7. I am a besieged paragon of virtue and patriotism (think Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Becket), but sometimes I have trouble sleeping.

If more than four or five of the people within your inner circle are really messed up and stupid, perhaps it isn't them.

Exactly, and NONE of the emails that Hillary received and sent (whether deleted or retained) were HER'S--they belonged to the Citizens of this Nation. I cannot believe that so many of our people lack this fundamental understanding. It doesn't matter her "intent", nor does it matter what the content of the emails were. They simply DID NOT BELONG TO HER, and any action she took to the contrary was a VIOLATION OF THE LAW.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iranian Drone Shadows U.S. Forces In Syria Day Before Attack
[FREEBEACON] Iran released video footage showing a drone shadowing U.S. military forces operating in Syria just a day before an unmanned aerial vehicle launched a strike on American forces in the war-torn country, a move that has raised concerns among U.S. officials about the Islamic Theocratic Republic's increasing willingness to use military force in the region.

Iran's release of the video--which shows it using a drone to monitor U.S. operations as a Farsi-language narrator threatens to strike American forces--comes as the American military on Thursday was forced to shoot down a drone in Syria that was firing on coalition forces.

The Thursday attack, which U.S. military officials say was sponsored by Syrian-regime allies--which include Iran--highlights the increased threat posed by the Islamic Theocratic Republic to U.S. forces operating in Syria.

While U.S. military officials would not confirm the drone was Iranian in origin, the timing of the attack and release of video footage by Iran has fueled speculation among national security insiders that Iran is stepping up its operations to counter U.S. military forces in Syria.

Indonesia arrests suspects in Marawi siege, Jakarta bombing
[Rappler] Indonesian police on Thursday said they arrested a man suspected of helping Indonesians join the attacks in Marawi City, as well as two others suspected of helping inspire a double suicide bombing in Jakarta.

Indonesia's National Police on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of helping Indonesians travel to Mindanao to join the Maute group, which is affiliated with the Islamic State. The police said four of the people he helped were being sought by Philippine authorities.

Of the eight foreign fighters confirmed killed in the Marawi clashes, two were Indonesians, according to Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Meanwhile, two other men captured on Wednesday in Bandung are suspected of being involved in suicide bombings in Jakarta on May 24. Three policemen died in the explosions.

Iraq
Iraqi forces execute hospital employee suspected of ISIS links
[RT] Details of the gruesome murder of a hospital employee by members of an elite Iraqi counter-terrorist unit have been shared by photographer Ali Arkady, who in an interview with RT, recalled that the man was shot after soldiers suspected him of trying to lead them into a trap.

The original 12-second smartphone clip depicting the cold-blooded murder of an unidentified Iraqi was allegedly recorded by the Iraqi Emergency Response Division (ERD) in December 2016. It shows a man, whose arms are tied behind his back, trying to run away from his executioners before being murdered in broad daylight by his captors.

The details of the apparent extrajudicial execution were made public by Arkady, a freelance filmmaker who between October and December of last year, documented the accomplishments and atrocities of the ERD ‐ the Iraqi special forces unit tasked with hunting down Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS) fighters in Iraq.

Speaking to RT about the murder video, Arkady revealed how the man’s executioners boasted about killing an unarmed Iraqi. The incident, Arkady recalled, unfolded on December 12, 2016, when two members of the ERD ‐ Captain Omar Nizar and Sergeant Haidar ‐ who the filmmaker has been following for months, returned from one of their assignments.

The ERD officers recorded the execution on their smartphone, and once back at the unit's headquarters, were very eager to share the footage with Arkady and at least two other journalists present there.

"They started showing [the footage], saying, look how we killed this person. He leads us into a village. We wanted to extract information out of him," Arkady told RT.

"[The footage] showed how Sergeant Haidar started firing, unloading around 6-9 shots at the person. Then you hear Captain Omar’s voice [saying], ’Haidar, stop, that is enough. I want to talk to him.’ But then he himself shot this person three times."

Further conversations on that day revealed that the Iraqi was murdered for allegedly trying to lead the special forces unit into an ISIS ambush.

6 'militants', Indian soldier killed in IHK encounter
[DAWN] Six suspected bully boyz and an army soldier were killed in a pair of gunbattles along the highly militarised de facto border that divides the disputed region of Kashmire between India and Pakistain, the Indian army said Thursday.

Three 'militants' and a soldier died in fighting that erupted Thursday after the suspected bully boyz allegedly crossed over into India-held Kashmire's (IHK) Nowgam sector from Azad Jammu and Kashmire, Indian Army Spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia claimed.

Kalia said three other suspected bully boyz were killed Wednesday in Machil sector.

There was no independent confirmation of the incidents.

Afghanistan
10 ISIS Bad Guys die in Nangarhar
At least 10 Daesh insurgents were killed in foreign troops airstrikes in eastern Nangarhar province in the past 24 hours, local officials confirmed on Thursday.

The airstrike was launched in Nargose and Chenar area of Kost district and “foreign insurgents were also among the dead,” a spokesman for the provincial governor, Attaullah Khoghyani said.

He said that the airstrike continues in the province.

He did provide any further details.

from Khaama: Fighting continues between Taliban, ISIS
Deadly clashes broke out between the Taliban insurgents and militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group, leaving several dead from both the sides.

The provincial governor’s spokesman Ataullah Khogyani said the incident took place in the vicinity of Pacher Agam district.

He said the militants of both the groups exchanged heavy fire in Suri Village, Judri, Saleh Baba shrine, and Wachi Lagadi areas.

Khogyani further added that so far 12 ISIS militants have been killed and two others have been wounded and two civilians were also killed.

At least three Taliban insurgents have also been killed during the clashes, Khogyani said, adding that hundreds of families have been forced to flee from the area.

According to Khogyani, provincial governor Mohamamd Gulab Mangal has also visited the affected families and security personnel in Hejratullah Rahmani area.

He promised that the Pacher Agam areas where the militants are conducting insurgency will be cleared in the near future.

The ISIS loyalists have long been attempting to gain foothold in the strategic Pacher Agam district in a bid to expand their presence and operations in this province.

The deputy house speaker of the Afghan parliament Zahir Qadir earlier had warned that the loyalists of the terror group are attempting to establish the Khurasan Caliphate in Afghanistan and are busy expanding their presence in some of the difficult terrains of the country.

Syrian Army overruns town in eastern Damascus after clashes with Islamist rebels
[ALMASDARNEWS] Late on Thursday afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) imposed full control over Hawsh al-Dawahra in the East Ghouta after capturing most of the rural town from Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
the day before.

Led by the 105th Brigade of the Elite Republican Guard, the Paleostine Liberation Army (PLA) and National Defense Forces (NDF), government forces overran the last sniper nests and gun positions despite facing many Islamist units whom tried desperately to cling onto control of the town, located southeast of the Islamist stronghold of Douma.

The media wing of Jaish al-Islam claimed its turbans were able to maintain a foothold in Hawsh al-Dawahra; however, a source embedded with the Elite Republican Guard assured al-Masdar News that all turbans had been pushed to the town’s western fields and outskirts.

Jaish al-Islam also published footage of the battle, claiming to have destroyed a BMP-1 and T-72 tank along with killing 16 SAA soldiers, events which the aforementioned SAA source told al-Masdar News were exaggerated.

Chris Matthews: Trump-Russia collusion theory 'came apart' with Comey testimony
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] In his written and spoken testimony on Thursday, Comey said that he never felt that Trump had tried to impede the FBI's investigation into Russia, even that the president had encouraged it and he suggested that former national security adviser Mike Flynn wasn't at the heart of the investigation.

"The assumption of the critics of the president, of his pursuers, you might say, is that somewhere along the line in the last year is the president had something to do with colluding with the Russians ... to affect the election in some way," Matthews said on MSNBC, following the testimony.

"And yet what came apart this morning was that theory," Matthews said, listing two reasons why. First, he said Comey revealed that "Flynn wasn't central to the Russian investigation," and secondly, he said that kills the idea that Flynn might have been in a position to testify against Trump.

"And if that's not the case, where's the there-there?" Matthews said.

In his testimony, Comey confirmed media reports that Trump had asked him if he could drop the FBI investigation into Flynn and that the president had asked for his "loyalty." But Comey also asserted that he had told Trump that he was not personally under any investigation and that the president had encouraged the Russia investigation, even if it implicated any of his associates.

The hearing lasted nearly three hours and was followed by additional closed testimony in the Senate.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran, the new target
[DAWN] INTO the cauldron of Middle East and Gulf politics, the krazed killer Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has once again inserted itself with potentially terrifying consequences for a region already mired in tension, conflict and war.

The twin terrorist strikes in Tehran yesterday were designed not just to inflict casualties on the Iranian people, but also to send a signal that the state of Iran itself is under attack.

The choice of targets -- the Iranian parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini, who founded the present-day Iranian state -- could not be more potent.

The IS, with its explicitly sectarian agenda, appears to have demonstrated that it has the resources to strike in the heart of the most important Shia-majority country in the Moslem world.

And it has managed to do so at a time when, instead of uniting against the threat the group poses to all nations, the Moslem world is riven by some of the most bitter politics and disputes in years.

Much will depend on how the Iranian state reacts and the position that the Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
-led cluster of Moslem countries takes on the attack.

The sensible approach is clear: Saudi Arabia should recognise the peril that the IS poses to all states and immediately adjust its increasingly hawkish approach to Iran and countries allied with it; Iran should reconsider its provocative search for more influence in the Middle East and the Gulf and, instead, focus on the necessary fight against the IS.

But the sensible approach is likely to have few takers and already hawkish elements in Iran have suggested that Saudi Arabia may have had a role in the Tehran attacks.

With Tehran in recent years accused of cultivating sectarian proxies and non-state krazed killer groups across swaths of the Middle East, the possibility of a fresh wave of violence across the region cannot be ruled out.

Yet, more conflict cannot be regarded as a foregone conclusion in a region where historical rivalries and even enmities have been managed for long stretches.

While the Middle Eastern and Gulf countries will have to take responsibility for maintaining the peace between themselves, two factors appear to have contributed to the new imbalances in the region.

A metastasising IS is clearly a threat to everyone -- a terrorist super-group that threatens all countries but that few states appear to truly understand.

It is impossible for states to manage relations among themselves while the IS remains active on the scale it is today.

Military probe finds mistakes in US airstrike on Syrian mosque, declares it ‘blow to al-Qaeda’
[RT] A military investigation into a US Arclight airstrike on a mosque in Syria’s Aleppo province found that the strike was "lawful," even though it likely resulted in the death of a civilian. More than 40 people died in the attack, which targeted an al-Qaeda meeting.

On Wednesday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) released the findings and recommendations of an internal investigation into the March 16 Arclight airstrike in al-Jinah, Syria. The conclusions were first announced in a series of tweets.

The US initially refused to take credit for the strike, admitting only to striking a nearby terrorist gathering in the bordering Idlib. The Pentagon also insisted that the mosque was still intact, despite video evidence to the contrary. In early May, however, CENTCOM acknowledged that it destroyed the mosque.

The CENTCOM report outlined the events of May 16. The military commanders received intelligence about a meeting location about a group of "al-Qaeda holy warriors and those collaborating with them," which was confirmed by follow-up surveillance. The decision-makers believed the meeting would take place in "a warehouse, with a shed and residence in near proximity."

At that point, the military began the targeting process.

"The strike cell followed procedures to confirm that the meeting was a valid military target, ensuring the strike would be proportional, and taking all feasible precautions to minimize collateral damage or civilian casualties," Major Josh T. Jacques, media operations chief for CENTCOM, said in a statement provided to RT.

The strike used F-15 fighter jets and MQ-9 Reaper drones to target the warehouse. It caused "superficial damage" to the adjacent mosque. CENTCOM followed up with a secondary strike against "Lions of Islam who were seen outside the building after the initial strike."

Approximately two dozen al-Qaeda members or affiliates were killed, and several others were maimed, CENTCOM said. It also resulted in the death of one "non-combatant, who may have been an adolescent."

An April report by Human Rights Watch (HRW), which was based on witness accounts, said that the mosque had been used daily and saw dozens of people gathering inside during prayer calls. It accused US forces of failing to double check the facts on the ground before launching the strike because "aerial surveillance of the building would have shown this."

"The Arclight airstrike took place in between the sunset and the evening prayer, at a time when US officials should have known that there would be people gathering in the mosque," deputy director of HRW’s Middle East and North Africa division, Lama Fakih, told RT in April.

The human rights

organization did not find any evidence that would have backed up the claim that an al-Qaeda meeting was being held there.

Europe
European Union not raising an army -- yet
by Leonid Bershidsky

The European Commission extended its series of reflection papers on the future of Europe with a paper on offering scenarios for closer defense cooperation. "The Transatlantic relationship is evolving. The onus of improving European security lies first of all in European hands," says the document, signed by two Commission Vice Presidents, Federica Mogherini and Jyrki Katainen.

This statement echoes German Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent comments about the need for Europeans to take their destiny into their own hands, and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's words last year that "Europe can no longer afford to piggy-back on the military might of others."

Defense self-sufficiency is easier to discuss than to achieve. The European Union, including the UK, spends less than half on defense than the US. One way to close the gap is for the 21 countries within the EU that are also NATO members to increase military spending to 2 percent of economic output, something that Trump demands as a condition of further US protection. The Commission offers an alternative: Better coordination of defense spending and establishing a single market for the military industry, which would foster competition and eventually lead to a more manageable arsenal (currently, EU armies use 178 weapon systems compared with 30 in the US).

An alternative to NATO is also necessary because the alliance is no longer a comfortable framework for northern European countries, whose relations with a key NATO member, Turkey, have cooled in recent months. On Wednesday, Germany announced it would be moving its 260 personnel and its reconnaissance planes to Jordan from Turkey's Incirlik airbase, where they've been stationed to conduct reconnaissance flights over Syria. The Turkish government wouldn't let German parliament members visit the troops at Incirlik because of numerous political disagreements with Germany, so Merkel's cabinet retaliated. It has also led several European countries in rejecting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's invitation to hold the next NATO summit in Istanbul.

Arabia
Qatar 'not prepared to change its foreign policy'
[Al Jazeera] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
will never surrender to the pressure being applied by its Arab neighbours and won't change its independent foreign policy to resolve disputes that have put the region on edge, Qatar's foreign minister has told Al Jazeera.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani made the remarks in Doha on Thursday, just days after Bahrain, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Egypt, the UAE and several other countries cut relations with Qatar.

They accuse Qatar of supporting gangs and their regional rival, Iran. Qatar says the charges are baseless.

"We are not ready to surrender, and will never be ready to surrender, the independence of our foreign policy," Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said.

He also said Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani would not leave the country while it was "in blockade", and therefore could not attend an offered mediation by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...

Flaming Queso Sends Texas Woman to Hospital
A woman is suing a Texas restaurant and its manager after flaming queso sent her to the hospital with second- and third-degree burns.

Erika Saenz, a 27-year-old from Austin, was eating at Dos Salsas Cafe in Cedar Park on May 20 when the queso exploded and left her with "life-altering burns," the Austin American-Statesman reports.

Saenz and her family ordered the restaurant's tableside "Quesos Flameados." When it was brought to the table, the waitress attempted to spray a flammable chemical on the cheese and light it on fire, but the flames "went sideways" and engulfed Saenz, according to her lawyer, Adam Loewy.

She jumped to the ground as her family doused her with water. She was later taken to a burn unit in San Antonio with severe burns on her face, chest, neck and arms, Loewy said.

He said she has been released from the hospital but will need plastic surgery.

Loewy said the queso appetizer is usually brought out of the kitchen already on fire, but in this case the waitress tried to ignite it at the table.

"I think this is the height of negligence that they would have a dish like this in which they have no fire training for the waitress," he said.

Saenz is seeking more than $1 million in damages.

Yemeni forces target Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Sana’a
[Iran Press TV] Yemeni air defense forces, backed by fighters from allied Popular Committees, have reportedly intercepted and shot down a twin-engine, all-weather tactical F-15 fighter jet belonging to the Royal Saudi Air Force.

An unnamed Yemeni military source told Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that the aircraft was targeted with a surface-to-air missile as it was flying in the skies over the Yemeni capital city of Sana’a on Thursday.

The jet had purportedly taken part in Arclight airstrikes against residential neighborhoods in Yemen.

Earlier in the day, Saudi fighter jets pounded a commercial district in the Ghamar area of Razih district in Yemen’s northwestern province of Sa'ada, leaving at least three civilians dead and destroying several buildings.

Saudi military aircraft also carried out two strikes against the city of Sirwah, which lies about 120 kilometers east of the capital, but no immediate reports of casualties were available.

Separately, Yemeni soldiers and allied fighters from Popular Committees launched a barrage of artillery rounds at the Hanjar base in the Qulal Shaibani area of Soddy Arabia

Ex-Marawi mayor apprehended for rebellion
[Manila Times] The former mayor of battle-torn Marawi City was arrested Wednesday evening at a police checkpoint in Villanueva town, Misamis Oriental, two days after an arrest order was issued against him and more than 180 others for rebellion.

Fahad "Pre" Salic is among 184 individuals charged for rebellion. Also charged was his brother, Omar Ali Solitario, likewise a former mayor of Marawi City, the PDP-Laban provincial chairman, and a commander of the Moro National Liberation Front. He remains at large.

Regional police spokesman Lemuel Gonda said Salic was arrested on Wednesday evening in San Martin village. He was en route to Cagayan de Oro City when he was flagged by members of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Public Safety Company.

The ex-mayor immediately denied involvement in the ongoing Maute attack on Marawi. He was temporarily locked up at Villanueva town jail. Salic is related to the Maute terrorist leaders, brothers Omar and Abdullah, who lead the so-called IS Ranao. Salic's wife, Rasmia, is a niece of Farhana Romato Maute, mother of the radical siblings..

In December, the two former mayors were said to have acted as government missionaries to the Maute rebels who took over Butig, Lanao del Sur, for ceasefire talks. They were said to be among a group of influential relatives of the Mautes who met with President Rodrigo Duterte in Davao City in November last year on the latter's invitation.

Duterte had tagged the two as among narco-politicians in the province.

On Tuesday, authorities arrested Cayamora Maute, father of Omar and Abdullah, along with his third wife Kongan Alfonso Balawag and two other family members in Davao City.

Iraq
13 die in fighting in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Thirteen civilians were killed, while eight others, including Islamic State militants, were wounded in violent attacks that occurred in several regions in Diyala, security officials and eyewitnesses said on Thursday.

DPA news agency quoted sources as saying that IS militants stormed house of an air force agent in Qurret Tabah village, northeast of Baqubah, and shot him dead in front of his family.

In a market in al-Hadi district in Abu Sayda village, northeast of Baqubah, a bomb blast left two civilians killed and two others wounded, the sources added.

Another bomb placed on the side of the road leading to Jalawla town exploded while an Iraqi army patrol was passing, killing three soldiers and injuring two others, according to the sources.

Meanwhile, Iraqi army, backed by al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) carried out a military operation in al-Burda region, in the depth of Hamreen mountains, killing four militants and destroying a booby-trapped vehicle.

In related news, the sources added that unknown gunmen opened fire against three civilians at each of al-Asri, al-Tami and al-Tikiya al-Thaniya districts in central Baqubah and Muqdadiyah.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

group.

The attack began with a blast at the remote Af-Urur camp, roughly 100 kilometres west of the commercial hub of Bossaso, before the bandidos holy warriors overran the base and killed soldiers at close range, said Ahmed Mohammed, a senior military official.

Close to 70 people were killed, though an exact corpse count was not yet available, Mohammed said. Abdi Hersi Ali, Puntland's interior minister, said troops suffered causalities but he declined to give further details.

Residents in the area reported chaotic scenes, with fighters beheading several civilians they encountered.

One witness, Abdibasit Hassan, said women were among those beheaded. "The situation is grim over there. This attack was an unexpected one," Mohammed said. The murderous Moslems, including jacket wallahs, reportedly attacked the base from three directions, forcing soldiers to retreat.

Col Hashi Ahmed, a senior military official, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that reinforcement troops reached the area and drove the bandidos holy warriors out of the camp. He estimated that at least 100 fighters were involved in the attack.

Al-Shabaab claimed killing at least 61 soldiers in the attack. The Search for International Terrorist Entities (SITE) Intelligence Group, which monitors murderous Moslem groups, said the murderous Moslem group issued the claim via its Shahada News Agency. Al-Shabaab also said it seized a large amount of weapons and ammunition and more than a dozen military vehicles.

Puntland in northern Somalia also faces a growing threat from IS-linked fighters who have split from al-Shabaab.

Liban Mohammed, a nurse at the hospital in nearby Armo town, said at least 40 maimed soldiers had been brought there after Thursday's attack.

‘Excessive risk’: Leading NGOs unite to criticize Mosul bombing campaign
Perhaps the "leading NGOs" should commit a few thousand of their troops to dig the murderous bastards out on the ground then.
[RT] Human Rights Watch, Amnesia Amnesty International, War Child and other advocacy groups have banded together to condemn the use of "inherently indiscriminate weapons" during the campaign to retake djinn-infested Mosul

(IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS).

"All warring parties should cease using explosive weapons with wide area effects and inherently indiscriminate weapons in densely populated west Mosul. ISIS’s unlawful use of civilians as ’human shields’ and the difficulty of identifying civilians in buildings increases the risk of civilian casualties."

Iraqi forces, with air support provided by the US-led coalition, has been engaged in fierce urban combat, trying to wrestle Iraq’s second city back from the jihadists since October last year.

The remaining Islamic State forces, who Iraqis believe are readying to die in battle, are housed in fortified positions in the densely-built western side of the city, where civilian houses have been booby-trapped and turned into passage ways for the jihadists.

"Thousands of families are trapped by ISIS in west Mosul, with its fighters preventing civilians from fleeing to safety," said Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch.

"Iraqi and coalition forces should recognize that in the crowded Old City, using explosive weapons with wide area effects puts civilians at excessive risk."

Syrian Army on the roll as ISIS retreats from 20 villages in western Raqqa

forces completely withdrew from vulnerable territory located on the southern bank of the Euphrates River on the frontline between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

This led to the SAA and SDF exchanging skirmishes with one another in a de facto no-mans zone in western Raqqa which government forces hope to take control of in the coming hours after liberating the adjacent Maskanah Plains last month.

Although ISIS no longer controls around 20 villages due to the tactical retreat, much of the rural area is believed to be booby-trapped and remains off limits to both the SAA and SDF.

Therefore, the SAA’s Tiger Forces are expected to wait until Friday morning before entering the abandoned villages. Meanwhile,

Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi artillery causes civilian casualties in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Several citizens were killed and injured on Thursday as Iraqi troops shelled Mosul’s Old City, local residents told Shafaaq News.

A civilian was killed, while three others were wounded as mortar missiles shot by Iraqi forces against al-Qulay’at region in the Old City, the residents said.

Earlier this week, Col. Reda Abdullah al-Bahadli, of the Rapid Response forces, was quoted by Anadolu Agency as saying that airstrikes launched by army jets against IS locations in al-Shifa district, northeast of Mosul, on Saturday claimed lives of 43 civilians. 30 others were killed as the troops attacked IS pockets in districts of al-Shifa, al-Zanjili, al-Borsa, Bab Sanjar and Bab al-Toub in western Mosul.

IS now has only two remaining districts of al-Shifaa, al-Zanjili and parts of the Old City.

Al-Jazeera under cyberattack 'on all systems'

...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
-based broadcaster al-Jazeera said Thursday that it was under a widescale cyber attack which had targeted "all systems", according to a statement released on social media by the broadcaster.

"Al Jazeera Media Network under cyber attack on all systems, websites & social media platforms," it said on Twitter.

The attack was also confirmed by a source at al-Jazeera, who said the broadcaster was attempting to repel the hack.

"An attempt has been made, and we are trying to battle it," said the source.

Following the initial reports of a cyber attack, some viewers in the region said they could no longer receive al-Jazeera television.
