Canadian sniper sets world record with 2.2-mile pickoff of ISIS fighter

Iraq
Canadian sniper 'kills IS militant two miles away'
[BBC] A sniper in the Canadian special forces shot and killed an Islamic State (IS) fighter from a distance of 2.1 miles (3,540m) in Iraq last month.

Military sources told Toronto's Globe and Mail newspaper that the gunman is a member of Joint Task Force 2, and made the shot from a high-rise building.

It took the bullet almost 10 seconds to hit its target, it reports.

The Canadian Special Operations Command confirmed to the BBC the sniper "hit a target" from that distance. The shot, which sources tell the paper was filmed, is thought to be a record for the longest confirmed kill.

The sniper worked in tandem with an observer, who helps to spot targets, and used a standard Canadian military issued McMillan TAC-50 rifle.

"The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [so-called Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces," a military source told the paper.

"Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far away, the bad guys didn't have a clue what was happening."

"It was overwhelming for my family," Williams said. "I have to look out for family. I merely attached the hashtag to my post derived from a blog article ... This was an admittedly provocative move to get readers to pay attention to my reasoned, reasonable, and yes angry argument."

The Russia influence controversy that John McCain doesn't want you to know about
[CIRCA] The same foreign lobbyists and Russians tied to the Trump probe were once associated to Senator John McCain when he ran for president.

Sen. John McCain, always the political maverick, recently bucked his own Republican Party by refusing to defend President Donald Trump in the Russia investigation and even suggesting the matter was reaching epic proportions.

“I think it is reaching the point it is a Watergate size and scale,” he declared last month during an event at his policy nonprofit, the International Republican Institute.

Iran Threatens to ‘Depose' Trump as Military Readies Missile Strikes on U.S. Forces
[FreeBeacon] A senior Iranian leader and confidant of the Islamic Republic's president is threatening to "depose" President Donald Trump if he continues his policy of confronting Iran and its terror proxy groups in the Middle East, according to recent comments that come as Iranian military leaders threaten missile strikes on U.S. forces and bases in the region.
Hence becoming a major demoncratic ally
Mostafa Tajzadeh, a leading Iranian politician and ally to President Hassan Rouhani, claimed this week that the Trump administration is too "fragile" to confront Iran and that if U.S. officials do "anything unwise against Iran," the Islamic Republic will see that Trump is "deposed," according to Farsi-language comments independently translated for the Washington Free Beacon.

The threats come as Iranian politicians and military leaders amp up their rhetoric against the Trump administration following a series of strikes in Syria on Iranian-backed forces bolstering embattled President Bashar al-Assad.

Same thing the Left is desperately trying to do domestically. Except they're not 'threatening', but actively engaged in a low level putsch (cause a full scale putsch would result in the active use of those 300 million weapons in the American public's hands).

BLM Disrupts Another Pride Parade, Injuring Four Police Officers
[PJ] The Left always eats its own, but its embrace of totalitarian, violent tactics can make such developments anything but encouraging. For example, in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend four police officers were injured as Black Lives Matter interfered with a Pride parade:

Over the weekend, several Black Lives Matter protesters attempted to block a Pride parade in Columbus, Ohio. When police responded, they reportedly resisted arrest, and one suspect tried to disarm an officer, leaving several officers injured, the Columbus Division of Police said.

Four demonstrators now face charges ranging from disorderly conduct to aggravated robbery over Saturday’s confrontation.

Showing up for Justice Columbus, a group that organizes "white people to take action to fight white supremacy," wrote on Twitter that the demonstrators were "disrupting Pride" to protest Friday’s acquittal of the Minnesota police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile last year.

"Today myself and a group of other queer and trans PoC [People of Color] (and allies) staged a silent, peaceful protest in the middle of the pride parade to highlight the lack of support for queer POC trans folk within our community and the larger lgbtqia community," Stephanie Ewen, one of the Black Lives Matter protesters, said in a statement on Facebook.

So, that's two entirely different Leftist motives for a group with a third Leftist motive, attacking a parade with a fourth.

Some protesters disrupted a Pride parade because a black man was killed by an apparently incompetent Hispanic police officer in another state -- meaning there was literally no one involved with the Pride parade that did or could do anything about any of it. That's beyond ridiculous.

Some other protesters disrupted a Pride parade because they don't think minorities identifying as one of 47 genders or orientations aren't getting enough support from within a community that has drunk the intersectionalism Kool-Aid. This is what happens with intersectionalism. When identity is everything, the Oppression Olympics are going to happen. There can't ever be unity, because a black lesbian transgendered Muslim paraplegic with a lisp will arrive to claim everyone else is oppressive, and they can't really dismiss the argument.

China Proposes Halt to U.S. Military Exercises in South Korea at Talks
[Free Beacon] China proposed halting U.S. military exercises with South Korea as part of a nuclear deal with North Korea during high-level talks at the State Department on Wednesday, according to U.S. officials.

The Chinese raised what Beijing calls "dual suspension" of U.S.-South Korean war games and North Korean nuclear and long-range missile tests at the first meeting of the administration's Diplomatic and Security Dialogue, said two officials.

The American side rejected the idea of canceling U.S. military exercises as a tactic tried in the past that was unsuccessful in convincing the North Koreans to give up their nuclear arms programs.

The talks came a day after President Trump cast a shadow over U.S.-China ties by suggesting China had failed to rein in North Korea, a fraternal communist state that maintains close military relations with Beijing.

"While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out," Trump tweeted. "At least I know China tried!"

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang defended China's efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear and missile challenge. Geng asserted the problem in dealing with North Korea's nuclear and missile threats does not "lie with the Chinese side," he said.

#3  I always thought Pyongyang was having its strings pulled by Moscow not Beijing

If China implemented sanctions against NK, the government would collapse overnight. It's not a fear of refugees that prevents China from reining in Kim. China could mine its borders and shoot anyone approaching them. What's more likely is that North Korea is China's pit bull - a bargaining chip to get Uncle Sam to leave the region, thereby letting China reassemble its fleet of vassal states from days of yore. Just about every country in East Asia used to be a Chinese vassal state, which can be thought of as training wheels for full provincial status (i.e. when Chinese troops entered to provide the benefits of Chinese civilization to the natives).

Why the dogs of the so-called 'Russian Probe' could soon be leashed
[Washington Examiner] A new proposal by an anti-Trump Democrat on the Federal Election Commission would expand the federal government's probe into alleged Russian influence to foreign companies and internet sites that take political ads, like Facebook or the Drudge Report, while giving the FEC an unprecedented role that some say oversteps its authority.

Democratic Commissioner Ellen Weintraub, citing petitions from leftist groups demanding a wider investigation, on Thursday plans to push for commission support for her idea.

"This is an all-hands-on-deck moment for our democracy," she wrote in a hasty bid to get the commission to consider it at their Thursday meeting.

"The mere allegation that foreign interference may have occurred shakes the faith of Americans in our democracy. The FEC must find out the facts of what happened during the 2016 U.S. presidential election and move swiftly and firmly to fix any problems we find. State Department warns Hungary: Anti-Soros law 'another step away' from NATO
[Wash Examiner] An international controversy over nonprofits funded by progressive Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros has created a vulnerability in the NATO alliance, the State Department warned.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's spokesperson urged Hungarian leaders to scrap legislation mandating that Hungarian nonprofits supported by foreign contributors identify their donors. The bill is the latest development in nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban's ongoing campaign against Soros, but his domestic and international critics regard it also as a step toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"If signed into law, this would be another step away from Hungary's commitments to uphold the principles and values that are central to the [European Union] and NATO," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Monday.

Hungary joined NATO in 1999, when Orban was in the midst of a four-year run as prime minister. Since returning to the post in 2010 the midst of an economic crisis that required an international bailout, Orban has had a fraught relationship with the European Union. The 2015 refugee crisis created additional strain, and human rights groups criticized his efforts to constrict the flow of asylum-seekers into Hungary.

Orban responded by attacking Soros, a campaign that hasn't ended. "There is an important element in public life in Hungary which is not transparent and not open -- and that is the Soros network, with its mafia-style operation and its agentlike organizations," he said in June.

The State Department contradicted that assessment and suggested that Orban is enabling corruption. "The United States is concerned by the Hungarian parliament's passage of legislation that unfairly burdens and targets Hungarian civil society, which is working to fight corruption and protect civil liberties," Nauert said.

The Hungarian leader's skepticism of the EU and "globalist" refugee policies, perhaps aided by Soros' status as a prominent progressive donor, has endeared him to some American conservatives who see a likeness to Trump.

But Orban's domestic opponents see shades of Putin. Orban criticized Western sanctions imposed on Russia in response to Putin's annexation of Crimea and destabilization of eastern Ukraine. And Putin has implemented legislation requiring international nonprofits to register as "foreign agents" and giving him the authority to shut down foreign nonprofits.

"We should not be afraid of the NGOs but rather of the members of Parliament who represent Russian interests," said an opposition lawmaker, per The New York Times.

Hungary also passed legislation designed to shutter Central European University, one of the most prominent institutions in the country, due to funding from Soros. But, though Orban has praised Trump, the new president's administration opposed that bill and continued to criticize his hostility to the nonprofits.

"By portraying groups supported with foreign funding as acting against the interests of Hungarian society, this legislation would weaken the ability of Hungarians to organize and address concerns in a legitimate and democratic manner," Nauert said.

#3  The [Hungarian nonprofits] bill is the latest development in nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban's ongoing campaign against Soros, but his domestic and international critics regard it also as a step toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.

1. The conclusions of the critics of the bill do not necessarily follow from their premise.
2. It is the globalists who are criticizing the bill.
3. Soros has been meddling and manipulating in Hungarian politics to serve his aims; Hungary has a right to its own sovereignty without meddling.
4. One only needs to look at other countries where this leftist has meddled to see the results.
4. IMO, Tillerson is wrong about recommending the scrapping of legislation that would limit Soros' efforts.
5. Time for Hexit (Hungarian exit) from outside meddling.

I have another (not unique) angle that may or may not intertwine yours. I'll bet about 1/3 of State employees went to Harvard, specifically the Kennedy School of Government. A few months ago, it finally dawned on me - the Kennedy School's sole purpose is to teach people how to become Federal hacks, to me the very definition of Next To Useless. U.S.-backed Syrian forces close in on Raqqa from south
(IraqiNews) U.S.-backed Syrian militias closed in on Islamic State’s Syrian stronghold of Raqqa on Wednesday, taking territory on the south bank of the Euphrates River with the aim of encircling the city, a militia spokesman told Reuters.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which include Arab and Kurdish fighters and are supported with air strikes by a U.S.-led coalition, began an offensive two weeks ago to seize the northern city from Islamic State, which overran it in 2014.

Nouri Mahmoud, spokesman for the Kurdish YPG militia which is part of the SDF, told Reuters Islamic State had been ousted from the suburb of Kasrat al-Farj as the SDF moved in along the southern riverbank from the west.

When the campaign began the SDF had Raqqa, which sits on the Euphrates’ northern bank, surrounded from the north, west and east. Although Islamic State controlled the south bank of the river, coalition air strikes had destroyed the bridges connecting it to the city.

The SDF is now trying to enact a siege of the city by taking the southern bank. The forces are a couple of kilometers from achieving this aim.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said on Wednesday SDF forces had moved along the southern river bank to reach the eastern edge of Kasrat al-Farj, in the area between the new and old bridges into Raqqa.

Islamic State is also facing defeat in its Iraqi stronghold of Mosul and is being forced into retreat across much of Syria, where Deir al-Zor in eastern Syria is its last major foothold.

Europe
Brussels station attacker secretive loner
[9news.com.au] The first details about the man rubbed out as he tried to bomb Brussels' Central Station highlight the shadowy new challenge to security services across Europe - the lone-wolf krazed killer.

The 36-year-old Moroccan who part-detonated a suitcase packed with nails and gas bottles on Tuesday appeared to have acted alone, was virtually unknown in his home area and had never been identified by police as a threat.

Belgian authorities have identified the Brussels attacker only as O.Z. A Belgian security source told Rooters he was Oussama Zariouh.

In an overnight raid, Sherlocks found in his home bomb-making materials similar to the chemicals used in the attacks by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
on Brussels airport and metro that killed 32 people last year.

Zariouh had lived in the poor Brussels borough of Molenbeek since 2013. But unlike the Lions of Islam who helped plan the 2015 Gay Paree attacks and who also lived there, Zariouh was largely unheard of, according to interviews with residents.

"Oussama is not an uncommon name, so I've heard the name, but here, in this area, no I don't know him," said a Belgian-Moroccan woman called Jamila who lived near Zariouh's home, echoing the sentiment of other residents.

According to Molenbeek Mayor Francoise Schepmans, Zariouh had been investigated only for a minor drug offence.

A Facebook account with his name and matching details said he had graduated from a Moroccan university in 2002 and was self-employed. His postings showed no obviously radical comments or krazed killer links and attracted very few responses.

The account, not updated for a year, showed many shots of Zariouh, clean-shaven or with a thin beard, apparently alone at the wheel of a car.

So far, no group has grabbed credit for the abortive Tuesday attack. Kenneth Lasoen, a security and intelligence expert at the University of Ghent, said its clumsiness showed a lack of operational support.

"This looks like the work of a lone wolf," Lasoen said. "He did not know what he was doing. If this had been ISIS (Islamic State), he would have had better instructions about how to do this awful act."

After Zariouh part-detonated his suitcase bomb, he ran downstairs to the station platforms then back up to the concourse and towards a soldier on a routine patrol, shouting "holy shit! Allahu akbar" - God is greatest, in Arabic.

The soldier shot him several times.

Zariouh's isolation may reflect krazed killers' greater need for secrecy as Europe's security forces step up their surveillance.

"Because of the heightened security, if Lions of Islam want to be successful in a planning an attack, they cannot make their intentions clear to anyone, because at some point that will be picked up by the intelligence services," Lasoen said.

"ISIS is saying: as much as you can, do it on your own," he said.

Nineveh council says feuds break out between Mosul civilians and IS families
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A number of tribal feuds flared recently in Mosul between families of Islamic State fighters and civilians who had relatives killed by the group, Nineveh province council said Wednesday.

Council member Hossam al-Abbar told Almaalomah website that feuds broke out at the Qayyara, Hammam al-Alil and other regions south of Mosul after more displaced civilians returned to their home regions from refugee camps.

Security forces intervene temporarily to defuse the tensions, the official stated.

“The judiciary should be the arbitrator between the culprit and the victim,” Abbar urged.

Earlier on Wednesday, London-based al-Quds al-Arabi quoted Khaled al-Jar, mayor of Qayyara, saying that 500 people from his town protested demanding to expel IS members relatives. It added that tribal chiefs in Hammam al-Alil also urged to deport IS relatives for fear of vengeful acts.

Speaking to the newspaper, an officer from Nineveh police service said that, based on Iraqi laws, families linked to the Islamic State cannot be punished for the actions of one family member, explaining that others who pledged allegiance to the group can not also be held accountable, given that many did under threat rather than voluntarily.

Airstrikes by Iraqi jets kill fifteen Islamic State militants in Hawija, Tal Afar
(IraqiNews.com) Fifteen Islamic State militants were killed on Wednesday in airstrikes by the Iraqi jets that targeted IS locations in Hawija and Tal Afar, the War Media Cell said.

In a statement, the Defense Ministry’s WMC said “Iraqi fighter jets launched several airstrikes that completely destroyed a booby-trapping workshop and missiles and killed three militants specialized in developing missiles in al-Abbassi district, in Hawija.”

Hawija, located 55 KM west of Kirkuk, has been held by IS since mid-2014.

IS still holds three towns in western Anbar close to the borders with Syria, in addition to a few areas in Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk. The Iraqi government is expected to aim at those strongholds once the Mosul battle is concluded.

Dozens of residents from Hawija and the regions in its vicinity escape to Kirkuk province on a daily basis. Despite the risky routes to the freed regions, the civilians prefer death to staying under IS control.

Meanwhile, other airstrikes in al-Mahalabiya, Tal Afar town, destroyed two booby-trapped vehicles and weapons. An IS location was destroyed, “12 militants were killed, huge amounts of weapons and explosives were destroyed.”

Last week, the WMC announced liberation of five villages in Mahalabiya, a region which Iraqi forces and paramilitary troops had previously isolated from Mosul.

Islamic State resorts to horses in Kirkuk to offset fuel shortage
Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State members are now relying on horses and donkeys in their movements in Kirkuk’s Hawija, making up for fuel shortage, a local source in the province said Wednesday.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying horses were allocated for senior leaders while donkeys were given to subordinate fighters. He added that the move was designed to facilitate movement and protect the fighters from targeted attacks.

Congressional Black Caucus excuses for refusing to meet with Trump are quite hilarious
[Kanuk Free Press] Warning! This information comes from the Worst Web Site in the World [Politico], which leaves us with a reasonably high possibility that it could all be completely made up, and that the anonymous sources cited could be fictional.

I don’t know if I believe the story myself.

But we’ll delve into it anyway because it’s consistent with some things we know happened back in the spring, and because the kinds of people cited here seem like the types who would actually talk to said Worst Web Site. Also, it’s hilarious.

Apparently President Trump would like to meet with the 50-member Congressional Black Caucus to learn more about the issues that are important to them. Now normally, when the president wants to grant you an audience and hear about your priorities, you’d jump at that opportunity.

That assumes, of course, that you’re actually concerned about accomplishing your stated goals. If all you’re concerned about is political posturing, then you might complain to high heaven that the president will never talk to you and doesn’t care about your issues, because he’s a racist or whatever.

That usually works great in Washington, but you are going to run into a problem if the president turns out to be quite willing to meet with you and hear your concerns. That will make him look good! You can’t have that. So you have to come up with any excuse you can think of not to go to the meeting, which can require some real creativity.

-Land of the Free
Anger Privilege
[Sultan Knish] If you want to know who has privilege in a society and who doesn’t, follow the anger.

There are people in this country who can safely express their anger. And those who can’t. If you’re
angry that Trump won, your anger is socially acceptable. If you were angry that Obama won, it wasn’t.

James Hodgkinson’s rage was socially acceptable. It continued to be socially acceptable until he crossed the line into murder. And he’s not alone. There’s Micah Xavier Johnson, the Black Lives Matter cop-killer in Dallas, and Gavin Long, the Black Lives Matter cop-killer in Baton Rouge. If you’re black and angry about the police, your anger is celebrated. If you’re white and angry about the Terror travel ban, the Paris Climate treaty, ObamaCare repeal or any leftist cause, you’re on the side of the angry angels.

But if you’re white and angry that your job is going to China or that you just missed being killed in a Muslim suicide bombing, your anger is unacceptable.

If you’re an angry leftist, your party leader, Tom Perez will scream and curse into a microphone, and your aspiring presidential candidate, Kirsten Gillibrand, will curse along, to channel the anger of the base. But if you’re an angry conservative, then Trump channeling your anger is "dangerous" because you aren’t allowed to be angry.

Not all anger is created equal. Some anger is privileged rage.

NYT's Brooks: Let's Face It, There's Really No Evidence On This Russian Collusion Stuff And This Isn't Watergate
[Hot Air] The New York Times’ David Brooks isn’t your typical conservative. In fact, many in the movement don’t consider the columnist an ally at all. He’s of a more moderate stripe and not one to shy away from criticizing Republicans; he once called Sarah Palin a "cancer" to the party. Yet, he did voice his concern about the lack of evidence being put forward with all the Russian collusion hysteria that’s embroiled the liberal news media and the Democratic Party. Are we getting ahead of ourselves? It seems that the "politics of scandal" that the Left is so desperately trying to gin up against Trump while lacking evidence to do so is making Mr. Brooks nervous; he made it known on last Sunday’s Meet The Press. He also said that what’s been discussed isn’t Watergate reloaded:

Islamic Militants Take Hostages at Philippine School
[AnNahar] Islamic turbans launched a day-long assault on a southern Philippine village Wednesday during which they held 31 people hostage inside a school, authorities said, raising fears of spreading violence as other jihadists fought a month-long urban war nearby.

Hundreds of gunnies attacked a lightly guarded military outpost at dawn, with some then taking over the school and using civilians as human shields throughout the day before fleeing at night, the military said.

"It's all resolved, all the hostages have been accounted for, no one was hurt," military front man Brigadier General Restituto Padilla told AFP by phone on Wednesday night.

Reforming religious discourse still essential to defeating terrorism: Sisi
[AlAhram] Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reiterated in a speech on Wednesday his position that reforming religious discourse is a key element in defeating terrorism.

The president said during an al-Azhar ceremony celebrating Ramadan's Laylat al-Qadr that four things need to be achieved defeat terrorism; renewing religious discourse, dealing with all terrorist groups equally, rebuilding regional states and their apparatuses, and cutting off funding to terrorist groups.

El-Sisi added that standing up to countries that support terrorism is essential to defeating the phenomenon.

The president also spoke of efforts undertaken by Egypt to defeat terrorism including pushing for peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts, which create an environment that breeds terrorism.

El-Sisi condemned countries in the region that "support and fund terrorism" and give terrorist groups access to media outlets.

"I say to such countries; enough, and let us agree to unite and cooperate for the interests of our nations," he added.

El-Sisi's statements come amid a severing by Egypt and several Gulf countries of diplomatic ties with Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
over what they say is the country’s support of terrorist groups, which Doha denies.

California court drops 14 of 15 charges against the planned parenthood video makers
As Twitchy reported in March, prosecutors in California charged David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress with 15 felony counts related to their undercover videotaping that exposed the gruesome methods Planned Parenthood used to preserve organs from aborted babies, as well as some haggling over the prices of those baby parts.

On Wednesday, LifeNews reported that the San Francisco Superior Court had dismissed 14 of the 15 felony charges.

#3  The San Francisco Superior Court on Wednesday dismissed 14 of 15 criminal counts but the pair are still charged with one count of conspiracy to invade privacy. However the court dismissed the charges with leave to amend — meaning [California Attorney General Xavier] Becerra could re-file the charges with additional supposed evidence against the pair.

The court ruled that counts 1-14 were legally insufficient. The state has the opportunity to amend if it can plead a more legally sufficient and specific complaint. San Francisco County Superior Court Judge Christopher Hite gave the state attorney general’s office until mid-July to file a revised complaint.

Today’s decision by the San Francisco Superior Court seems to lend additional credence to the fact that abortion advocates and their pro-abortion friends in politics are filing the charges for political rather than substantive reasons.

ISIL a useful tool for US to destabilize Middle East: Analyst
Some people say the most egregious nonsense. The Iran PressTV then interviews them.
[Iran Press TV] America’s strategy in Syria has been to utilize terrorist groups to undermine independent governments and wreck havoc in the Middle East, an American political analyst in Virginia says.

“It seems to me that the long-term plan that the United States has is to essentially use ISIS as a means of destabilizing the region, the Middle Eastern region, said Keith Preston, chief editor of AttacktheSystem.com.

“It’s not that the United States has a favorable view of the ISIS but I think that the United States is simply trying to work both ends against the middle in the sense that they want ISIS to be a disruptive force in Syria and in other parts of the Middle East where there are governments that the United States ultimately wants to over-flow,” Preston told Press TV on Wednesday.

“At the same time, I think that the United States does not want ISIS to engage in terrorist actions against the United States itself or against its allies in Europe or the Middle East such as Israel and the [Persian] Gulf states,” he added.

“So, on one hand the United States wants to convene ISIS, at the same time I don’t think they want to see ISIS completely defeated, because of their usefulness as a disruptive source in the region and because they are inflicting so much destabilization on Syria.”

US President Donald Trump has ordered increased military operations in Syria and delegated more authority to his generals despite lacking a comprehensive strategy, an approach that may spark a confrontation with Syria, Iran and Russia, according to US officials and analysts.

Britain
UK Queen lays out May’s policies amid tumult
[Iran Press TV] Queen Elizabeth II has presented Prime Minister Theresa May’s policies to the new Parliament, at a tumultuous time for Britannia and as May’s future in power remain uncertain.

The queen took to Westminster on Wednesday to read out a list of the government's intentions for the politicians on their first day in office, following the June 8 snap general election that saw May’s Conservative Party lose its narrow majority.

The legislative program that the monarch laid out on behalf of May was a pared-down version of her party manifesto for the election and dropped some key promises to instead focus on Britannia’s exit from the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
(EU).

"My government’s priority is to secure the best possible deal as the country leaves the European Union," said Elizabeth II. "My ministers are committed to working with Parliament, the devolved administrations, business and others to build the widest possible consensus on the country’s future outside the European Union."

Eight of the 27 bills that were included in the agenda revolved around Brexit, while the rest were focused on other issues such as the recent wave of terror attacks that hit Britannia as well as the deadly apartment block fire in Grenfell Tower last week.

Absent on the list, however, were May’s manifesto pledges to tax the elderly more heavily for their own care and slash free lunches for schoolchildren, the very unpopular policies that were blamed for May’s uninspiring election performance.

Afghanistan
Refurbishment of 53 Blackhawks for the Afghan troops has commenced: Pentagon
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States Department of Defense has said the refurbishment work of 53 UH-60 or Blackhawk helicopters for the Afghan security forces has commenced.

According to a new Pentagon report on Afghanistan “Under the ANDSF Road Map, the SMW will also expand to provide additional helicopter crews, consolidate the PC-12 aircraft into a new fixed-wing kandak, and create an aviation support kandak.”

The report further added that Afghan Air Force will have more than double the size of its fleet by 2023 as a result.

“This reporting period, construction began on the first two of six additional A-29s for the AAF, refurbishment commenced on the first 53 of a planned 159 UH-60As, and funding was allocated for AC-208 light-attack aircraft and 30 additional MD-530 helicopters,” the report said.

It also added that the pilot, maintainer, and support personnel changes will be made within the authorized tashkil level of 195,000 for the ANA.

This comes as efforts are underway by the Afghan government and the international allies of Afghanistan to increase the air power of the Afghan security forces.

The commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph L. Votel requested the US Congress to approve the budget for the Afghan forces Blackhawk program.

In his statement before the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier in March this year, Gen. Votel informed regarding the significant capability gaps in Afghan Air Force, saying “Going forward, transitioning from Russian to U.S. airframes will ensure Afghan forces have a more sustainable fleet that is interoperable with U.S. forces and will enhance the Afghans’ ability to operate independently of coalition forces. The U.S. government is considering a critical AAF initiative to replace the unsustainable Russian-manufactured aircraft fleet and make up for combat losses in Afghan transport helicopters by providing U.S. UH-60s.”

ATC acquits two in Sri Lanka team attack case
[DAWN] An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday acquitted two accused in the Sri Lanka cricket team attack case.

Obaidullah and Ibrahim Khalil had been accused of providing arms and training to the gunnies involved in the attack on a visiting Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore on March 3, 2009.

Seven people had been killed and 20, including seven Sri Lankan players, injured in the attacks. The Lankan team had escaped owing to the heroics of the team's bus driver.

The doors of international cricket in Pakistain had, till recently, closed as a result of the incident.

Representing the accused, Advocate Rana Baleegh had argued that the allegations against his clients were false and baseless. His clients should, therefore, be acquitted, he said.

The court had therefore ordered acquittal of the two accused in the case.

Six individuals -- Qari Zubair alias Naik Mohammad, Adnan Arshad, Abdul Wahab, Javed Anwar, Ibrahim Khalil and Obaidullah -- had been indicted in 2016 for the attacks.

Qari Zubair, Adnan Arshad and Abdul Wahab were later killed in an alleged encounter with security officials. The alleged criminal mastermind of the attack, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi

chief Malik Ishaq, was also killed in a police encounter.

Earlier, the case had been transferred from the ATC to military courts, from where it was transferred back to the ATC.

Courtroom violence
[DAWN] THE ugly courtroom scenes in Lahore on Tuesday have been quickly linked to the increasingly violent ways of sections of the lawyers’ community. A legal team from lawyer Asma Jahangir’s office, together with its client, was physically assaulted and bombarded with invectives as it tried to exercise a basic right: the team sought to establish that its client had been aggrieved, and petitioned the court for redress. It was a habeas corpus case, and the use of physical violence and coarse language, according to reports, was linked to the alleged involvement of a lawyer -- even though the petition did not mention his name. Without getting into the details of the case, the spectacle may well be taken as a kind of ’admission’ by the attackers. After all, would lawyers with a powerful argument to support their own claims feel the need to physically go after those on the other side?

However incredulous it may sound to some, a day later, one version doing the rounds explained that it was actually an individual -- long discarded by the bar and not linked to the case at all -- who had criminal masterminded the episode to settle an old score. If this is true, it merits an investigation of its own. Whatever the case, there is much recent evidence of an increasing tendency among lawyers to take the law into their own hands. There have been instances where it has appeared practically impossible to hold any kind of probe into criminal cases in which lawyers themselves have been implicated. The bar has repeatedly been asked to do something about it but there has been little by way of reform. According to one bleak reading of the situation, it is no more possible for legal circles to even discuss ways and means to fight the growing urge of lawyers to resort to physical violence, let alone devise a strategy for achieving that goal. It cannot get any worse. The bar must come up with an effective remedy soon.

'Around 100 killed' in CAR's Bria despite truce deal
[Al Jazeera] As many as 100 people may have been killed in a day of festivities between rival factions in the Central African Republic town of Bria, shortly after a truce deal was signed, the town's mayor said.

Bodies lay in the streets of Bria, around 580km northeast of the capital, Bangui, and dozens more people were treated for shotgun wounds after fighting erupted at dawn on Tuesday.

"The corpse count will certainly rise. For now it's an estimate and it could be up to 100 dead," Maurice Belikoussou told the Rooters news agency on Wednesday by telephone, raising an earlier corpse count of "around 50".

"There are still dead lying in the neighbourhoods, in the road and in the bush," he said.

Witnesses said houses were looted and set on fire during the festivities.

China-Japan-Koreas
Mapping China's 19th Party Congress

[Merics.org] At a time when the United States retreats from its global leadership responsibilities and China tries to assert itself as a global leader, changes to the political agenda of China’s governing party and its top leadership are of increasing importance to the rest of the world. When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) convenes its 19th Party Congress in late October or November this year, the 2,300 delegates will discuss and endorse the Party’s strategic goals for the next five years and elect a new central committee. The day after the congress concludes, the newly elected committee will appoint the top leadership team tasked with implementing those goals. The Party Congress will also give the first authoritative indication on future CCP leadership constellations beyond 2022. If the rule-based, institutionalized processes of leadership successions initiated by Deng Xiaoping are upheld, we can expect Xi Jinping’s heir presumptive to be appointed to the Politburo Standing Committee.

The Party Congress is formally the highest decision-making organ of the CCP. Congresses are carefully choreographed affairs intended to rally party members around a political platform drafted under the supervision of the general secretary of the CCP. Simultaneously, the congress provides the stage to present this platform in the best possible way to the national public. Ahead of the congresses, there is little to no official reporting, but after their conclusion, party-state media present the roadmap leading up to the major event in the party's five-year political cycle. Since the preparatory process for this key event has been increasingly institutionalized since the 1990s, we have an indication of the major steps in between and their timing. Based on the assumption that there will be no major deviation from established practice, we present the milestones leading up to the 19th Party Congress in this graphic.

Turkey sends military reinforcements into northern Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has sent new military reinforcements including troops, vehicles and equipment into northern Syria, a war monitoring group and rebel and Kurdish sources said on Wednesday.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the forces had crossed the border in the last 24 hours and headed towards areas south of Azaz town, which is held by Turkish-backed Syrian rebels.

To Azaz’s south are areas controlled by the Kurdish YPG militia, which Turkey has fought in northern Syria.

The Observatory said the reinforcements were part of preparations for new joint attacks on the YPG by Turkish forces and their Syrian rebel allies in that area of Syria's northwest. The area is separated from the main territory the YPG and its allies control in the northeast.

A rebel from a Turkish-backed group confirmed Ankara had sent more forces.

"Turkish forces are now inside Syria ... the forces are huger reinforcements that have been entering since last night," said Mustafa Sejari of the Liwa al-Mutasem group.

Turkish opposition to what it says is Kurdish encroachment along its long border with Syria has complicated US strategy in the region, because Washington supports the YPG and its allies in the fight against ISIS.

The YPG is a key part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which a US-led coalition is supporting with air strikes and military advisers on the ground to fight ISIS in its stronghold Raqqa.

Turkey launched an offensive in northern Syria in August last year, sending tanks and warplanes across the border to support Syrian rebels fighting both ISIS and the YPG.

It helped them carve out a big portion of northern Syria, helping ensure the YPG and its allies could not link the 400-km (250-mile) stretch of territory they hold in the north and northeast with the pocket they hold west of Azaz.

The YPG is linked to the PKK, a Kurdish group fighting an insurgency in Turkey’s southeast.

Southern fuel shipments stopped after Sebha-bound trucks seized
[Libya Herald] Fuel supplies to Sebha have been stopped following today’s suspected IS terrorist seizure of two fuel trucks south of Sirte as the vehicles made their way from Zawia to the south.

The Fuel and Gas Crisis Committee (FAGCC) has decided that fuel movements cannot continue until the Presidency Council (PC) and the local authorities in the area secure the route to the south.

The FAGCC said that one of the drivers escaped but the fate of his colleague is not yet clear. It noted that the identity of the attackers was unknown but it was thought they were IS bully boyz who, since their ejection from Sirte last year, are known to be operating in the countryside south of the town.

The two tankers were carrying 100,000 litres of fuel. The seizure of this cargo will not only disrupt much needed supplies to the south of the country but, if the attackers were indeed terrorists, would also allow them to replenish their fuel supplies.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
one observer pointed out that given the current anarchic state of fuel movements, it was possible that the vehicles had been seized by fuel smugglers rather than terrorists.

Either way, the FAGCC said that until security along the route to the south was assured, it did not intend to send further fuel shipments

Sidra suicide bomber’s other explosives did not detonate
[Libya Herald] It has become clear that guards at the Sidra Gate had a lucky escape early this morning when they tackled a jacket wallah. Though the man went kaboom!, slightly injuring one member of the security forces, the explosives-packed vehicle in which he was travelling failed to explode.

Today a Libyan National Army (LNA) bomb disposal team unloaded and made safe 17 shells, one tank missile and an air-burst mine from the partially-destroyed blue Nissan four-by-four.

It is likely that the bomber expected this deadly ordinance to explode when he detonated his own boom jacket. Had that occurred it seems certain that the men manning the checkpoint would have suffered death or serious injury and there would have been considerable surrounding structural damage.

In the wake of the lone attack just after one o’clock this morning, the area was locked down. Patrols were sent out in the expectation that the suicide bomber heralded a larger assault. It appears that no other forces of Evil were discovered and the highway is now once again open.

Terror attack at Michigan airport: Tunisian knifeman with a 'hatred of the United States' wounds cop by repeatedly stabbing him in the neck while shouting Allahu Akbar before being tackled to the ground
Some more detail on this story from yesterday. So dear Readers, place your bets: will he turn out to be self-radicalized over the internet, a highly connected known wolf who tried respectability for a while, or a mental health case?
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Amor Ftouhi has been identified as the man who stabbed police officer Lt. Jeff Neville at Bishop Airport in Flint, Michigan Wednesday morning

  • The approximately 50 year old man is Canadian, but is originally from Tunisia

  • He yelled 'Allahu Akbar' before stabbing Neville in the neck with a 12-inch knife

  • He was taken into custody within a minute of the terror attack

  • Feds say they plan to charge Ftouhi with violence at an international airport - which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison

  • Neville is resting comfortably at the hospital in satisfactory condition and is expected to survive his injuries
Officials say Ftouhi, who lives in Quebec, where he apparently worked as an insurance agent, crossed into the U.S. on June 16 via Lake Champlain in New York.

This morning, he arrived at the airport and walked around a bit - never going past security into the terminals.

They say he spent some time on the first level of the airport, before going upstairs to a restaurant. He then went into a bathroom, dropped his baggage there and then came back out to attack Neville.

The FBI spokesman also said that Ftouhi said something to the extent of 'you have killed people in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan and you're all going to die'. He added that it was clear the Ftouhi had a 'hatred for the U.S.'

Authorities said there's no indication that Ftouhi was connected to any international terror organization, or that he was part of any wider plot.

Sources told NBC 25/Fox 66 that Ftouhi tried to buy a gun before the attack, but was denied one so he bought a knife instead. The whole incident inside the airport was caught on video, the sources added.
Update from another Daily Mail article on the subject at 12:30 p.m. EDT:
A criminal complaint charging him with committing violence at an airport says Ftouhi asked an officer who subdued him why he didn't kill him.
Attempted suicide by cop?
Cherie Carpenter, who was awaiting a flight, told Flint TV station WJRT she saw the attacker being led away in handcuffs. She described the man in custody as appearing 'blank, just totally blank.'

The suspect, who is married and has children, reportedly has dual citizenship in Canada and Tunisia.

ISIS urges attacks on Ramadan's Night of Power, Islam's holiest day
[FOXNEWS] Law enforcement officials around the world are on high alert this week as ISIS calls for a surge of civilian attacks during Islam’s "Night of Power," the holiest day on the Islamic calendar, which this year begins Wednesday evening.

Known in Arabic as "Laylat al-Qadr," it marks the night during the holy month of Ramadan that Moslems believe the Prophet Muhammad received the first revelations of the Koran.

While the vast majority of Moslems consider the occasion as the best time in the year to pray for blessings and forgiveness, jihadist groups such as ISIS exploit the date to urge brutal acts of violence.

Last year, when the Night of Power fell on July 2, a widely shared message pushing for "calamity everywhere for the nonbelievers," was delivered by ISIS. And that night there was a surge of deadly terror attacks.

US official: Russia 'hacked' 21 US states in election
[BBC] Russian hackers targeted election systems in 21 US states during last year's campaign, said a US official.

Jeanette Manfra of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) refused to identify the states during her testimony before a Senate panel, citing confidentiality agreements.

But she added there was no evidence to suggest actual vote ballots were altered in the election hack.
It sounds like they didn't actually hack anything, they either tried and failed or it was just a series of probes.
US intelligence agencies believe Moscow interfered to help Donald Trump win.

Ms Manfra, the department's acting deputy undersecretary of cyber security, testified on Wednesday before the Senate Intelligence committee, which is investigating Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 election.

"As of right now, we have evidence that election-related systems in 21 states were targeted," she told the panel.

She said DHS still had confidence in the US voting system because they are "fundamentally resilient".

#4  First of all, she is wrong. All 50 states experience hacking attempts. As well as any other device that is assigned an internet IP address. Hackers have the tools to probe every IP address on the planet. Firewalls, security logs that log those attempts, etc. have been around since before Windows NT.

Posted by: Frank G || 06/22/2017 10:02 Comments || Top||

#11  True - today's use of hacking simply means manipulation. For me, hacking has meant the defeat of a closed system - whatever that system is. To distinguish a hack from manipulation, the hack is completed in 2 phases very similar to mechanized warfare: breakthrough and exploitation phases where the system is compromised in 'breakthrough' usually via data injection, and then access gained for 'exploitation'. The act is deliberate and not dependent on 2nd party input. This is why email phishing is not hacking.
Posted by: Rex Mundi || 06/22/2017 10:04 Comments || Top||

#12  I'd love to know the forensics used to define the hackers as 'Russian'.

Wouldn't we all? But that's classified. It's a deep, dark secret.

Even Putin knows, and has said so, that a hacker's IP address can be spoofed. So, assuming the intel community really does have solid evidence the Russians hacked the election, it must be some evidence other than IP addresses. What that evidence could be is the key question. Has our intel community devised a method to determine who the hackers are no matter what IP address is associated with the hack? Or did our own spooks hack the Russians to get this purported evidence?

People like James Clapper may say they believe Moscow interfered in our election to help Trump but then, they say all kinds of things. What they really believe is a whole other matter and as long as they say their evidence is a secret we just have to trust them. That's the hard part and it's getting harder all the time.

Posted by: Procopius2k || 06/22/2017 17:55 Comments || Top||

#20  What if the DHS probed computers in 21 states and made it look like the Russians did it? The Vault #7 release indicated the CIA can actually initiate cyber attacks on US systems and leave “fingerprints” to suggest to forensics experts that the attacks came from a foreign power, even the Russian Federation.

The purpose would be two-fold:
1. Set up the narrative that Trump election team was in cahoots with Russia.
2. Set things up so that DHS would declare voting processes and voting machine were a part of "critical infra-structure" and centralize/nationalize control of voting under the Federal government. It would be much easier to control the outcome of future elections.

Of course these are just hypotheticals.

With the liberation of Resafa this week, the Syrian Arab Army has taken control of more than 1,400 square kilometers and 22 villages in the past 14 days.

The Syrian Arab Army has now shifted their attention to the Khanasser Plain, where they hope to secure their imperative supply line to the Aleppo Governorate.

during the raid near a house close to Atocha train station where all of the suspects were residing.

According to officials at the Interior Ministry, the detainees were planning a ’suicide kaboom’. During the raid in the apartment, the coppers discovered and seized a large number of Islamic State training materials.
Ynet adds details that may or may not be useful:
Spanish police arrested a 32-year-old Moroccan in a dawn raid in central Madrid on Tuesday who they said was "highly radicalised" and had a large collection of extreme Islamist material including a manual for suicide bombers, the government said.

Police also arrested two other Moroccan men aged 38 and 33 who lived with the first man in the residential apartment, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Television images showed armed police in riot gear storming the apartment building before dawn and men dressed in white robes and motorcycle helmets being grappled to the ground and handcuffed outside the apartment block.

The man had an extremely dangerous profile, similar to that of those who carried out recent attacks in Britain and France, the government said, without giving further details.

He had tried to recruit others to carry out an Islamist attack in Spain, it said.

Australia says to resume air strikes in Syria after Russia threat
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Australia said on Thursday it would resume air strikes into Syria, ending a two-day suspension implemented after the downing of a Syrian military aircraft triggered a Russian threat against Washington-led coalition planes.

Russia said on Monday it would treat US-led coalition aircraft flying west of the River Euphrates in Syria as potential targets and track them with missile systems and military aircraft, but stopped short of saying it would shoot them down.

As a result of the threat, Australia said on Tuesday it would suspend its military campaign.

On Thursday, a decision was made to resume the air strikes in Syria after an assessment of the Russian statement, although it did not say when they would begin again.

Trump's son-in-law Kushner in Israel to push for peace talks
[NEWS.XINHUANET] U.S.President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior Middle East advisor, Jared Kushner, arrived in Israel on Wednesday in an effort to revive the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Kushner is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and with Palestinian leaders in Ramallah.

Shortly after arriving, Kushner visited the family of Hadas Malka, a border police officer who was stabbed to death by a Palestinian while she was on duty in East Jerusalem's Old City last week.

A spokesperson for the Malka family said that Kushner was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and spend about 30 minutes with Hadas' parents.

"Kushner said that President Trump himself asked him to express condolences on behalf of the U.S.," a friend of the family told the Hebrew-language Ynet news site.

Kushner joined Jason Greenblatt, a top U.S. national security aide, who arrived in Israel on Tuesday and had met with Netanyahu.

Doctor testifies in Tayyaba case
[DAWN] Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Aamer Farooq on Tuesday recorded the statement of a doctor in the Taiba case.

A doctor testified that 10-year-old domestic worker Taiba, who was allegedly tortured by an additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) and his wife, was brought to a hospital severely and visibly injured.

The witness, a doctor who was on the panel that conducted a medical examination of the alleged victim, said an initial medical examination of the child was conducted and the child had injuries on her hand and face.

The other doctors on the panel could not appear before the court because one has retired and the other is attending a training course. Subsequently, the court issued them notices for July 4 directing them to ensure attendance.

The court had previously issued notices to the panel of doctors who examined the alleged victim.

Justice Farooq, while issuing a notice to the witnesses for June 20, has said that the court would continue the trial from the point where another IHC court had recused itself from hearing the case further.

ADSJ Raja Khurram and his wife Maheen Zafar have been charged with assaulting, confining, mistreating, neglecting, abandoning, harming and injuring the child maid.

The couple pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
after they were indicted and are currently standing trial.

In January, a member of the Pakistain Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) medical board had said it was possible that the child was a victim of torture and abuse.

"The minor received multiple burns and other injuries to her back, face, legs and abdomen," Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javed Akram had said, adding: "However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
it is for the police to decide whether these injuries were the result of torture or not."

Dr Akram was on the medical board constituted on Jan 6 to re-examine the child at the request of a district magistrate. An earlier medico-legal report from Pims had also confirmed the injuries sustained by the child.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
the initial examination had ignored burns on the child’s back caused by an iron rod or ladle.

The child was allegedly employed by the suspects as a domestic worker, and they have been accused of keeping her in wrongful confinement, burning her hand, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom and threatening her.

Puntland students complain abuses by Somali ambassador to Islamabad
[Garowe Online] Students hailing from Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
studying in Pakistain are complaining about mistreatment by the Somali Ambassador to Islamabad Khadija Mohammed Al makhzoumi, Garowe Online reports.

Some of the students, who spoke to Radio Garowe over the phone, said they are being mistreated and subjected to horrifying abuses, including unlawful arrests, intimidation and unkind discrimination.

He added that they went to the embassy several times to meet ambassador Al makhzoumi over their complaints, but the result became the arrest of their representative for raising the issue.

They lodged a complaint to the government of Pakistain, however, it decline to intervene in the situation, and noticed the students to ask the Federal government of Somalia to solve their problems.

ISIS propaganda video shows clashes with Kurdish forces in the battle for Raqqa
[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS has released another lengthy propaganda video, this time covering its inevitable loss of Raqqa, the city in northern Syria which jihadists transformed into the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
capital back in 2014.

Featuring the aftermath of American Arclight airstrikes and their toll on buildings and civilians alike, the footage proceeds to show jihadists fighting for Raqqa’s countryside along with jacket wallahs in action against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Later in the video, child fighters are proudly put on display while the emphasis of recruitment by religious teachers during Ramadan is underlined by the Islamic State.

At the moment, roughly 15% of Raqqa city is under Kurdish control while heavy festivities are ongoing in several neighborhoods.

On Wednesday evening however, ISIS retook the southern part of the Division 17 Army Base which has now changed hands a handful of times this month.

Denmark named best place in world to live…

[YourNuz.com] Denmark has been declared the best place in the world to live while the Central African Republic is the worst, according to a new study.

Australia ranks ninth out of a total of 128 countries, the United Kingdom comes in 12th while the United States is 18th.

The results were revealed in the 2017 Social Progress Index which measures 50 indicators of what life is like for people living in different nations around the world.
I wonder how they conducted their poll?
Usually such things are done by asking X number of a reasonably matched set of people from each country the same questions and noting how they rate their experience for each on a scale from one to five, where one is awful and five is wonderful or vice versa. But they don't ask what they mean by their answers, and so the stoic Danes say everything is wonderful even as they live on antidepressants, as I recall. Americans are critical of imperfections, so we are ranked as considerably unhappier.
In other news:
DENMARK: Muslim immigration means "Danes can no longer sit on their own balcony and eat a ham sandwich"
...but to complain about that would called racist, so they don't complain to the pollster.

He has decorated his home with samples of his work: a framed toilet seat with Barack Obama’s face and mouth; a life-sized poster of Bernie Sanders with Soviet tattoos and diaper “full of free shit”; a billboard-style portrait of Hillary Clinton as a maniacal queen.

Another billboard declares that “Black lives are just matter”, accompanied by a Planned Parenthood logo and an abortion-themed punchline: “We’ve killed more blacks than the klan.”

Romania government falls after power struggle
[Iran Press TV] Romania's government fell Wednesday after the ruling party took the unusual step of passing a no-confidence vote in its own prime minister following internal power struggles.

The left-wing Social Democrat party (PSD) filed the motion against premier Sorin Grindeanu barely six months after winning an election.

The PSD unexpectedly withdrew its support for Grindeanu on June 14, accusing him of "delays" in implementing reforms in the European Union's second-poorest country.

Grindeanu however refused to resign and denounced powerful PSD boss Liviu Dragnea for seeking to "concentrate all the power in his hands".

Afghan forces clear Tora Bora of ISIS leaving 44 militants dead, 22 wounded
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan national defense and security forces have fully cleared the strategic Tora Bora area from the presence of the ISIS militants, leaving at least 44 militants dead and 22 more wounded during the operations, the local officials said.

The commander of the 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan army General Mohammad Zaman Waziri said at least 44 ISIS militants were killed since the operations were launched.

He said at least 22 more were wounded and two others were arrested along with their weapons and ammunition, confirming that the area has been fully cleared of ISIS terrorists.

The provincial police chief General Abdul Rahman Rahimi told reporters in Tora Bora that the security forces will not allow the insurgents to once again create sanctuaries and safe havens for themselves in Nangarhar and specifically in Tora Bora of Pacher Agam.

Provincial governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal in the meantime said the ISIS militants who had taken positions in Tora Bora were all foreigners.

He said Pakistani, Uzbek, Chechen, Arab, and other insurgents were seen among the militants during the operations.

Seminary students ‘assault’ TV channel team for drinking water
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: Students of the Madressah Haqqania beat up Din News employees, broke their camera and also threw stones at their DSNG on Tuesday.
Because it's the holy month of Ramadan, y'know...
Members of the team from Din News say the madressah management was involved in electricity theft and that they were beaten by the students because they were reporting on this.

The madressah management claims the journalists were drinking water during the day and that they were initially asked to stop and beaten when they continued to drink water.

A news hound of the channel, Ali Usman, told Dawn him and five other team members were assigned to interview Hussain Nawaz’ lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, on Tuesday.

"Mr Raja could not come from Lahore so we went to the lawyer’s house, which is near the madressah," he said.

He said one of the cameramen, Rashid Azeem, went into the madressah and poured water over his head to cool off. Some students asked him why he was drinking water and left when they were told Mr Azeem was pouring the water on his head.

"We saw that the madressah management was stealing electricity and one of the cameramen started recording," he said, adding that some students then started beating Mr Azeem, breaking two of his teeth and taking his camera.

The team continued filming on another camera while students threw stones at the DSNG and took away cash and valuables from the team, he said.

A source in the madressah told Dawn the team were drinking water in the madressah but were allowed in as they said they wanted to offer prayers.

He said the newsmen started filming later, saying the management was stealing electricity, which the source said was not true. He said the newsmen were told to stop and leave repeatedly and that students beat them up when they started misbehaving.

A police official said both sides were called and their statements were recorded.

An FIR has been registered against the madressah management with the Margalla police.

Egypt sends fuel tankers to Gaza to ease power crisis
[Al Jazeera] Egypt has begun to deliver one million litres of fuel to the Gazoo Strip, in an attempt to ease the Paleostinian enclave's desperate electricity crisis.

The fuel, trucked in through the otherwise besieged Rafah border between Egypt and Gazoo, will be routed on Wednesday to the territory's only power station - closed for several months owing to fuel shortages.

But Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett, reporting from West Jerusalem, said that sources from inside the power company told Al Jazeera that the Paleostinian Authority (PA), which operates in the occupied West Bank but contracts the power company in Gazoo, has instructed the company not to accept the Egyptian fuel.

[DAWN] A five-year-old girl in the town of Besham Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
's Shangla district was allegedly raped and strangled by a suspected repeat offender, police told DawnNews on Wednesday.

District Police Officer (DPO) Besham Rahatullah Khan said that the girl had gone missing from her house in the morning but her body was found wrapped in three sacks around 4pm near the residence of the 55-year-old suspect.

The maiden's body was taken to the Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Besham but due to unavailability of a female doctor, the case was transferred to District Headquarters Hospital Alpuri for an appointment with Dr. Quincy and a post-mortem examination.

The DPO said that doctors, after the autopsy, held the view that the girl had been raped.

Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) following the autopsy, and the suspect, Jumaraz, was nominated in the FIR and tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
Station House Officer (SHO) Habib Syed claimed the suspect had been involved in such cases in the past.

The SHO said the suspect's entire family would be taken in for interrogation because the victim's sandals were recovered from the roof of the suspect's house.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Seth Rich Murder - George Washington Universtity Forensic Analysis
[WND] WASHINGTON ‐ DNC staffer Seth Rich, who was brutally murdered on July 10, 2016, on a street near his Washington home ‐ sparking discussion that he might have been the source of party insider emails turned over to WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential race ‐ probably wasn’t the victim of a random homicide.

Or a robbery gone bad.

Rather, his murder "more likely (was) committed by a hired killer or serial murderer."

Those are the conclusions of the Profiling Project, which released the results of a months-long investigation into Rich’s death on Tuesday.

The project, an "all-volunteer group of current and former George Washington University forensic psychology graduate students and instructors," said it came together for the investigation to "aid the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police utilizing forensic psychology skills and tools in hopes of providing at least one actionable item."
