Steve Bannon's back
h/t Jerry Pournelle
Steve Bannon, White House chief strategist and one of the architects of President Trump’s longshot populist victory in November, reportedly has his mojo back after a period of "hibernation" and is now one of the top voices in the Trump White House -- just as Trump looks to take the initiative and push back against those in Congress and the media looking to stifle his agenda.

...Ultimately, Axios concludes, Bannon’s resurrection comes from the simple fact that he shares the same worldview as the president: "The biggest reason that Bannon is back is that his worldview is Trump’s worldview. For ... all the ups and downs, in-and-out-of-favor drama, Trump is more Bannon than he is Jared or Ivanka."

Cruz to Push for More Action to Secure Release of U.S. Hostages in Iran
[Free Beacon] Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) next week plans to introduce a bill calling for both the unconditional, safe return of several U.S. citizens and permanent legal residents imprisoned in Iran and also the creation of a multi-national task force to try to secure their release, according to a Senate source.

Cruz's measure will mirror a bipartisan House resolution sponsored by Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R., Fla.), Ted Poe (R., Texas), Nita Lowey (D., N.Y.), and Ted Deutch (D., Fla.). That version calls on the Trump administration to make securing the release of at least six U.S. hostages the "highest of priorities."

It also urges the United States and its allies who also have citizens detained in Iran to create a multi-national task force to leverage resources and share information in an attempt to win the prisoners' freedom.

Iran has over the last several months jailed several dual-nationals of other western nations, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Canada.

The move comes in the wake of stepped up efforts by several families of prisoners held in Iran to try to secure the release of their loved ones. The families feel a new sense of urgency after the death late last month of Otto Warmbier. Warmbier, a University of Virginia student held in North Korea for a year and a half, was released in mid-June only to die just days later from complications his family believes were the result of his detainment.

Man Without Plan Ridicules POTUS' Proposed ‘Cyber Security Unit' With Putin
[Free Beacon] Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) rebuked President Donald Trump's notion of working on a "cyber security unit" with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday, saying it was akin to working with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad on a "chemical weapons unit."

Trump sent out a series of tweets Sunday morning about his Friday meeting with Putin, which included denials by the latter of Russian interference in the U.S. election. The American intelligence community has concluded the Kremlin was behind the extensive cyber campaign to meddle in the race, but Trump has stated other countries may have been involved as well.

Trump said Putin denied the allegation, and he added that the two discussed "forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded and safe."

Former CIA director John Brennan says Trump was too soft on Putin
[Breitbart] Former CIA director John Brennan on Sunday harshly criticized President Trump’s performance during the G20 summit in Germany, saying he failed to take a hard enough line against Russian President Vladimir Putin and appeared to question the word of the U.S. intelligence community.

"He said it’s an honor to meet President Putin. An honor to meet the individual who carried out the assault against our election? To me, it was a dishonorable thing to say," Mr. Brennan said of Mr. Trump during an interview with NBC’s "Meet the Press."

The White House insisted Sunday that Mr. Trump pressed Mr. Putin on Russia’s alleged interference in the U.S. campaign.

However, the president and his chief of staff have said other entities might have been responsible for meddling last year.
Mr. Brennan, who led the CIA from 2013 to 2017 under President Barack Obama, took exception to Mr. Trump doubting the conclusions of U.S. intelligence offers who pointed their fingers squarely at Russia.

#6  Brennan was a leaking asskissing Obama chump. Under his leadership the intelligence community blew it in North Korea, Syria, Turkey, Yemen, and the list goes on... and to top it off, the huge wikileaks mess, on his watch too. He was a leading proponent of calling the terrorists "extremists" and not jihadists, an elimintating Islam references to them. This sumbitch was a horrible failure by any objective standard.

Why does anyone treat him as a credible expert on anything other than how to be a failure of the intelligence community?

China tests self-sustaining space station in Beijing

BEIJING, July 9 (Reuters) - Sealed behind the steel doors of two bunkers in a Beijing suburb, university students are trying to find out how it feels to live in a space station on another planet, recycling everything from plant cuttings to urine.

They are part of a project aimed at creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that provides everything humans need to survive.

Four students from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics entered the Lunar Palace-1 on Sunday with the aim of living self-sufficiently for 200 days.

They say they are happy to act as human guinea-pigs if it means getting closer to their dream of becoming astronauts.

"I'll get so much out of this," Liu Guanghui, a PhD student, who entered the bunker on Sunday, said. "It's truly a different life experience."

President Xi Jinping wants China to become a global power in space exploration, with plans to send the first probe to the dark side of the moon by 2018 and to put astronauts on the moon by 2036. The Lunar Palace 365 experiment may allow them to stay there for extended periods.

But the 200-day group will also be tested to see how they react to living a for period of time without sunlight.
They want to see how moving the team and housing to stay in the dark side of the moon will affect them?
The project's team declined to elaborate.

"We did this experiment with animals... so we want to see how much impact it will have on people," Liu, the professor, said.

ATL area illegal alien and violent crime news, it's the only news we have
[Breitbart] An illegal alien has been arrested after being accused of killing four of her five children and her husband in a brutal stabbing.

Isabel Martinez, an illegal alien with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer, is accused of stabbing to death four of her children, including 2-year-old Axel, 4-year-old Dillan, 7-year-old Dacota and 10-year-old Isabela Martinez, and her husband, 33-year-old Martin Romero, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Martinez also allegedly stabbed her fifth child, 9-year-old Diana Romero, but after being airlifted to the hospital following the stabbing incident, she is expected to survive, according to authorities.

According to police, Martinez went on the stabbing spree against her own family in the middle of the night, around 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.

"What prompts a person to take the life of such innocent children and her spouse is something we may never understand," Gwinnett County police said in a statement. "This is a horrendous crime not only for the victims but for the extended family, neighborhood and community. We are hoping and praying that the remaining victim survives his/her injuries and makes a full recovery."

Russian lawyer who got inside Donald Trump’s inner circle had been denied US visa
[CIRCA] ... It was apparently during the time she was in the United States on that parole entry that she arranged to meet with Donald Trump Jr., Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and former campaign manager Paul Manafort on June 9, 2016 at Trump Tower.

During the meeting Veselnitskaya raised the issue of restoring U.S. adoptions inside Russia if the United States would repeal the Magnitsky Act, a law passed in 2012 punishing Moscow for human rights violations in connection with the death of a lawyer who had discovered a massive money laundering scheme inside the country.

Vladimir Putin has long reviled the Magnitsky Act and fought to have it repealed. And according to letter from Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Charles Grassley, the Kremlin’s main fight against the law was led by Veselnitskaya’s client, Katsyv.

Another player in the Russian influence scandal, the U.S.-based political firm Fusion GPS, was also involved in helping Prevezon, Katsyv and Baker Hostetler, according to the Grassley letter. Fusion has been a major focal point of the FBI and Congress because it hired a former British intelligence agent named Christopher Steele to produce a salacious intelligence dossier that made wild and still unsubstantiated claims about Trump ties to Russia.

Sheriff at heart of Ohio's opioid epidemic bans deputies from carrying Narcan, anti-overdose drug
[Wash Times] Drugs overdoses killed nearly 200 people last year in Butler County, Ohio, but its sheriff is standing by his decision not to let deputies carry Narcan, a life-saving drug used to revive dying opioid users.

"I don’t do Narcan," Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jonestold The Cincinnati Inquirer on Thursday.

"They never carried it," he said of his deputies. "Nor will they. That’s my stance."

Amid a nationwide opioid crisis, Ohio’s Butler County in particular has suffered substantially. Butler witnessed a record 192 drug overdose deaths in 2016 and is currently on pace to shatter that statistic in 2017. Its coroner’s office saw 96 fatal overdoses during the first three months of the year, including 80 involving opiates, officials announced recently.

Yet while deputies in surrounding Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties all carry Narcan, Butler’s top cop said he’s opposed to following suit.

#1  My part of the world -- an outer suburb of Cincinnati that has everything from Section 8 apartment complexes to McMansions in the $1.9 million range.

Narcan prices have gone up considerably, according to the Daily Beast:

The auto-inject version of the drug that used to cost $575 for two doses now costs $3,750, according to Politico. The generic, Naloxone, isn’t much better: pre-crisis, the drug cost $1.84 per dose. Now, the drug costs 17 times that.

And opioid overdoses have gone up significantly, too, in part because users trust they will be repeatedly be saved from death by police and EMTs carrying the stuff.

#2  At some point there's gonna be a lawsuit when an overdose victim dies because narcan isn't available. Of course, the "deep pockets" in that situation will be the drug companies and the taxpayers.

If "users" were able to think that far ahead, they wouldn't be "users". However, saving them from death enables them to die again. And again.

#4  there's gonna be a lawsuit when an overdose victim dies because narcan isn't available That is why we have legistlatures, to pass laws to cover these eventualities. Laws to exempt anyone from legal liability for using naloxone in a good faith effort to revive a supposed opioid overdoser, laws to exempt organizations from lawfare if naloxone isn't available or doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I know legislative work like this will cut into the time legislators have to collect boodle and get re-elected.

Britain
UK Single Payer Healthcare, one million patients a week cannot get a GP appointment
[Telegraph] One million patients a week cannot get appointments with GPs, amid the longest waiting times on record, new figures show.

Doctors said they were working "flat out" but under "unsustainable" pressure, leaving "worrying" numbers of patients without any help.

The NHS figures show the number waiting at least a week to see their GP has risen by 56 per cent in five years, with one in five now waiting this long.

The pressures left 11.3 per cent of patients unable to get an appointment at all - a 27 per cent rise since 2012. This amounts to around 47 million occasions on which patients attempted but failed to secure help from their GP, forcing them to give up, try again later or turn to Accident & Emergency departments.

Rising numbers of patients struggled to even get through on the phone, with 27.8 per cent of those polled citing difficulties, compared with 18.5 per cent in 2012.

Patients’ groups last night said the situation was "frightening," putting the vulnerable at grave risk of ending up in hospital for want of basic care.

Pope Francis Says America Has ‘a Distorted Vision of the World'
(CNSNews.com) - Pope Francis told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica on Thursday that the United States of America--and Russia, China, North Korea and Bashar al Assad's Syria--have "a distorted vision of the world"--("una visione distorta del mondo," as reportetd in Italian by La Repubblica).

The pope made the observation in an interview with La Repubblica reporter Eugenio Scalfari.

"Last Thursday, I got a call from Pope Francis," Scalfari reported. "It was about noon, and I was at the newspaper when my phone rang."

He said the pope wanted to see him at four that afternoon, according to a Google translation of the Italian report.

"Pope Francis told me to be very concerned about the meeting of the G20," Scalfari wrote.

"I am afraid there are very dangerous alliances between powers who have a distorted view of the world: America and Russia, China and North Korea, Russia and Assad in the war in Syria," the pope said.

Trump Grinds the G20, the Bureaucratic Underground, and CNN into Hamburger
[American Thinker] This was a week of startling contrasts. The President reasserted (against a decades-long leftist attack on it) the significant achievements of Western civilization and the need to vigorously defend it. His speech prefaced the G20 meeting in Hamburg, where leftists rioted, burned, and looted while the G20 leaders ponced about and wined and dined in style, apparently oblivious to the havoc which their open border policies and multiculturalist mindset had birthed. As Trump worked successfully on trade and defense issues in Europe, his administration was quietly plugging security leaks and maladministration in our own bureaucratic underground.

The prince and princess are Jared and Ivanka with Queen Melania. They were all deeply engauged with all the world leaders this week in Hamburg and the Europeans were very comfortable and accommodating of this unique style never before seen from the Whitehouse.

New residents may soon be arriving Hotel GITMO
[The Hill] The Trump administration appears to be making its first moves toward fulfilling a campaign promise to fill the Guantanamo Bay prison camp with "bad dudes."

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein visited the prison on Friday to get an update on current operations, the first concrete action the administration has taken on the facility since taking office.

Up until now, Guantanamo has been running on autopilot; the executive order from former President Obama calling for the facility to be shut down is still technically the law of the land.

But President Trump promised during the campaign to "load it up with some bad dudes," and Sessions has called it a "very fine place" with no legal reason not to send new detainees there.

Supporters of keeping the facility open and sending new detainees there are confident Trump will fulfill that promise, even if little movement has been made.

#1  But can someone please remind me what due-process is all about?
Posted by: DooDahMan || 07/09/2017 8:59 Comments || Top||

#2  Due process doesn't apply to captured enemy. See Geneva Conventions -- there are quite a few of them. Insurgents aren't "arrested" to be taken to court. They are "captured" to be interned until the war's over. While they're being insurgents and internees, they're also subject to the laws of the country they're being insurgents in.
that means they're liable for crimes of robbery, rape, torture, and that sort of thing. I'm not an international lawyer, but I think there are also laws of reciprocity: if they dont adhere to conventions the other side's bound only by its own laws.

Thank you fer yer interest.

#3  Un-uniformed enemy combatants operate outside the protections afforded by the Geneva Convention - they do not offer any protections and do not deserve any. They do not belong to a nation state and most terrorists do not even fall within the definition of insurgent (rebel).

They are lucky to have the due process given to them by the military commissions.
Posted by: Tennessee || 07/09/2017 10:26 Comments || Top||

#4  In fact by extending GV protections to them we endanger our own men.
They (the enemy) have no reason to treat our people humanely and any future legal combatant (read: China, North Korea) would have no compulsion to do so either and would subject our people to ill-treatment, [real] torture, executions, etc...
That is why we need to enforce both sides: Extend protections to legal combatants and *not* extend any protections to illegal combatants.

Former NSC Senior Director: ‘Coordinated Attack' on President Trump by Media, Obama Loyalists
[Breitbart] A former senior director of the National Security Council under President George W. Bush said on Thursday that the liberal media and Obama loyalists inside and outside of the federal government had executed a "coordinated attack" on President Donald Trump since he was elected.

Michael Doran made the remarks at the Hudson Institute in Washington, DC, where he is a senior fellow on Middle East security and was a panelist for a discussion at the institute on Russian meddling in the U.S. 2016 presidential election. The conversation quickly shifted to Trump and his campaign’s relationship with the Russians and the ongoing investigation into it.

"What we have is a coordinated attack between elements of the press, elements in the bureaucracy and then sitting -- during the transition -- and now former Obama officials weaving this vast Trump-Putin conspiracy theory, which doesn’t hold up under scrutiny."

LNA pays a high price in the last stage of the Battle for Benghazi
[LibyaHerald] At least 18 Libyan National Army (LNA) soldiers were killed today as the fight to conclude the Battle of Benghazi went into its third day. It was the heaviest confirmed LNA corpse count within a twenty-four hour period for some weeks.

Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
published a list of the names of the dead, but it is unclear if this included the shooting of a part-time member of the LNA in an area which is now supposed to have been cleared of bad boys. Abdullah al-Arabi, a 23 year-old player with the al-Nasr football club, was shot by a sniper in Suq al-Hout. It is not known if the gunman was apprehended.

The mopping-up operation in Sidi Akribesh is clearly taking longer and proving more costly than LNA commanders expected. Cornered snuffies appear to be fighting ferociously.

It is understood that a woman given safe passage out of the fighting shot and maimed two soldiers who were welcoming her. She was in turn shot and taken to hospital. Two other snuffies were reportedly captured trying to escape.

The LNA is claiming that during their advance they killed another leader of the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
, Nasser al-Tarshani, also known as Abu Khaled al-Madani, who came from Sebha.

Troops found ten rotting bodies in a school in Sabri, which have not yet been identified.

Also today two young men died and a third lost a leg in a boobytrap blast when apparently entering their Sabri home.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
another Sabri resident returned to his property to find his dusty car still decorated for the wedding three years ago that was due to be held on the very day the snuffies moved in. The unnamed individual and his family fled but he was later married elsewhere in the city.

Benghazinos took to the beaches today in a festive mood but five kilometres away they could hear the sound of artillery fire and see plumes of black smoke rising from the last corner of the battle.

Hafter discuss further support with UAE deputy armed forces chief
[LibyaHerald] Following the crushing of Islamist snuffies in Benghazi, Field Marshal Kahlifa Hafter has flown to Abu Dhabi for talks with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Abu Dhabi’s crown prince and the UAE armed forces’ deputy supreme commander about further boosting collaboration.

In a statement afterwards congratulating Hafter on the liberation of Benghazi, Sheikh Mohammed expressed the UAE’s support for what he said were the Libyan people’s "choices and ambitions" for a stable and secure life. The crown prince also wished the Libyan National Army "good luck" in achieving further victories against gunnies and Death Eaters "in order to liberate all Libya from these destructive menaces".

Cooperation with "other regional and international actors" in countering extremism and terrorist organizations was also discussed. This is seen as a reference to Egypt and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
For his part, Haftar thanked the UAE for its support so far.

De Blasio blows off Post reporter in Germany
[NYPOST] Mayor de Blasio -- forgetting that he’s accountable to eight million Big Apple residents -- blew off a Post news hound Saturday after he gave a speech in Hamburg, Germany.

The mayor did extensive interviews with German media after delivering a speech to activists protesting the gathering of world leaders at the G20 summit.

But when a news hound for The Post greeted de Blasio after he’d talked to the German news hounds, he smiled, turned and walked away without any acknowledgment.

City Hall front man Eric Phillips said de Blasio appreciated the chance to spend time with his son and to meet with German protesters. The mayor will answer answer questions after returning to US soil.

"It’s been a good trip. We’ll be back in New York tomorrow," Phillips said.

De Blasio and his aides were in Germany on the tab of Hamburg Zeigt Haltung ‐ or Hamburg Shows Attitude.

The mayor’s son Dante joined the party in Hamburg. Dante de Blasio, a student at Yale, has an internship in Berlin this summer.

Europe
Quid pro quo: Erdogan threatens not to ratify Paris climate accord
[IsraelTimes] At G20, Ottoman Turkish president indicates Ankara may follow in Washington’s footsteps, pull out of agreement

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
threatened Saturday that his country would not ratify the Gay Paree climate accord, speaking at the end of the G20 summit in Germany.

"After that step taken by America, the position that we adopt is in the direction of not passing it in parliament," Erdogan said at a presser in Hamburg.

The summit of the world’s biggest industrialized and developing economies agreed that 19 of its members would stick with the 2015 plan to fight global warming and "took note" of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s pullout from the initiative.

But shortly after the mega-summit ended, Erdogan, who met Trump at the event, told a news conference that Turkey was no longer a certain candidate and suggested other members of the "G19" also had doubts.

He said he had clearly told French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
: "No offense, but we will not pass it in our parliament as long as the promises made to us are not delivered."
The buried lede is the quid pro quo: No EU membership, no CO2 reduction. How fortunate global warming isn't actually a problem, whereas unlimited access to Europe for the Turks would have been.
He said former French president Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
had promised him that Turkey would be classed as a developing and not an industrialized economy -- meaning Ankara would receive money from a global climate fund rather than have to pay into it.

He also suggested some other, unidentified, countries had a "problem" with the agreement and said "they are not renewing their full support."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Escaped Inmate Apparently Used Drone To Break Out Of Prison
[LawNewz] Two-time escaped convict Jimmy Causey has been arrested once again. But how he broke out of the big house on this go-round was certainly not lacking in ingenuity.

The 46-year-old prison escapee apparently used wire cutters to slice through four separate fences‐wire cutters which seem to have been dropped into his South Carolina maximum-security prison by drone.

No, not this one.

Bryan Stirling, director of the South Carolina Department of Corrections, told the New York Times:

"We 100 percent know a cellphone was used or multiple cellphones were used while he was incarcerated, and we believe a drone was used to fly in the tools that allowed him to escape."

Also aiding Causey in his escape was a jerry-rigged dummy which made it appear as if he remained in his cell for 18 hours before the Shawshank-like escapade was detected by prison officials.

No stranger to re-enacting Tim Robbins’ finest moments on screen, Causey used a similar decoy to avoid detection as he escaped from prison once before by hiding in a dumpster in 2005.

In fact, Causey’s entire criminal history looks to be more or less Hollywood-flavored. He’s currently serving a life sentence for kidnapping his former attorney at gunpoint over the belief that said attorney did not do enough to defend him‐which led to prison sentences in the 1990s‐basically the plot to Cape Fear.

This time, Causey was found at a Motel 6 in Austin, Texas on Friday morning based on a tip provided to the Texas Rangers. In his possession was $47,000 cash, two guns and four cellphones.

Fifth Column
Military Judge Gives Bowe Bergdahl A Lot Of Bad News
[RedState] Last week, the military judge overseeing the trial rendered two adverse decisions. First, he decided that Bergdahl will stand trial on all charges. Most damaging, though, was his decision that if Bergdahl is convicted that the jury would be allowed to hear about the injuries suffered by an Navy SEAL and an Army NCO while specifically searching for Bergdahl.

Serious wounds to a soldier and a Navy SEAL who searched for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl can be used at the sentencing phase of his upcoming trial, a judge ruled Friday, giving prosecutors significant leverage to pursue stiff punishment against the soldier.

The judge, Col. Jeffery Nance, ruled that the service members wouldn’t have wound up in the firefights that left them wounded if they hadn’t been searching for Bergdahl, so their injuries would be relevant to his sentencing if he’s convicted of misbehavior before the enemy at trial in October.

I suspect we are heading for a guilty plea and Bergdahl taking his chances with a military judge. Any court-martial panel Bergdahl draws will be composed of officers with combat tours. Bergdahl can demand that a third of his jury be composed of noncommissioned officers senior in rank to him‐but he’d have to have a profoundly incompetent defense team for them to think that senior NCOs are going to be very sympathetic to his case.

Now that COL Nance has ruled that at least two men were wounded looking for him (and a Purple Heart still gets people's attention) the smartest thing he can do is just say the hell with it and plead guilty. He's going down and going down very, very hard.

California Dems Suing College Republicans in Latest Temper Tantrum
[Townhall] That's right. The California Democratic Party is suing them, accusing them of lying to voters and saying that the recall would repeal the gas tax.
Caveat emptor, baby.

First of all, that any California Democratic Party official or candidate would accuse Republicans of lying to get votes - and say it with a straight face - is a massive insult. These are the people whose confiscatory gun control scheme was called "Safety for All" in ads. These are the people who claim that sanctuary cities are simply shielding hard-working, law-abiding, family-centered immigrants from being deported. These are the people who call taxpayers "freeloaders" when they finally get sick of forking over the highest gas taxes in the nation.

The lawsuit names three Cal State Fullerton College Republicans, as well as other activists, as defendants - Amanda McGuire, Brooke Paz, and Ryan Hoskins - and was filed in Sacramento County Superior Court, a clear effort to make it as difficult as possible for the three to defend themselves. If you're not familiar with California, Sacramento is at least a six-hour drive from Fullerton. (And that's if you leave in the middle of the night to avoid traffic.)

Huma Abedin Paid More Than $50K From Hillary Clinton's Campaign Since Election Loss
[FreeBeacon] Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, has collected more than $50,000 in hush money from Clinton’s campaign since the November election loss to Donald Trump, according to federal election commission filings.

Abedin, who served as the vice chair of Clinton's campaign, has been given $52,180.65 from Hillary for America, Clinton's campaign committee, from mid-November to the end of March, the time of the latest available filings. Abedin received 12 checks ranging from $2,316.06 to $6,005.45 and was also paid hundreds for phone and travel expenses.

A handful of other close Clinton associates, including Nick Merrill, Hillary's former press secretary, were also still being compensated as of late March.

Donald Trump's campaign committee has also continued to pay staffers, including John Pence, the nephew of Vice President Mike Pence, who became the campaign’s executive director in January. However, Trump filed for re-election and has been pulling millions into his campaign committee for 2020.

Abedin is in the midst of filing for divorce from disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner.

French police charge suspect linked to 2015 kosher supermarket attack
[IsraelTimes] Officials say the prints of Abdelaziz S. were found on one of the weapons used by terrorist Amedy Coulibaly

French police have charged a 42-year-old man in connection with the January 2015 terror attack on a kosher supermarket in Gay Paree, a judicial source said Saturday.

DNA testing found samples from the man, identified as Abdelaziz S., on one of the weapons used by Amedy Coulibaly, who killed four people after taking shoppers hostage at the Hyper Cacher market.

He was detained in a Gay Paree suburb on Wednesday and is being held on charges of criminal association with terrorists.

"During questioning, the suspect failed to provide any satisfactory explanation about why his DNA was found inside the weapon, but he insists he knew nothing of Coulibaly’s plans," the source said.

Two women, aged 23 and 31, who were also detained by Sherlocks earlier in the week, have been released.

The attack on the Jewish store on January 9 came a day after Coulibaly killed a policewoman, and a few days after the assault by other jihadists on the Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
satirical magazine offices that killed 12 people.

According to Sherlocks, the Tokarev handguns and an assault rifle used by Coulibaly were purchased by a company owned by the wife of a suspected arms trafficker, Claude Hermant.

Hermant, a former mercenary during the wars in the former Yugoslavia, claims to have sold them on to another suspected trafficker, identified as Samir L., in a deal aimed at infiltrating a network, a sale which had the blessing of the French police.

Samir L. was one of several people charged in the months following the Hyper Cacher attack for helping Coulibaly obtain the weapons, though all have denied any knowledge of his plans.

Hermant and his wife have been called in twice for questioning in the inquiry, but no charges have been filed.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Flight attendant breaks wine bottle over head of combative passenger
[SydneyMorningHerald] A flight attendant had to break a wine bottle over the head of a man who lunged for an exit door and fought with other passengers during a Delta Air Lines flight from Seattle to Beijing.

The passenger, Joseph Hudek, 23, from Florida, appeared in US District Court, after he was arrested on Thursday night after causing the disturbance that forced the plane to return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, authorities say.

FBI special agent Caryn Highley said Hudek was sitting in the first row of the Boeing 767's first-class section. He asked a flight attendant for a beer before takeoff, and was served one, but he exhibited no sign of being intoxicated and ordered no other alcoholic drinks, the attendant told authorities. About an hour into the flight, while the plane was over the Pacific Ocean northwest of Vancouver Island, Hudek went into the forward restroom. He came out quickly, asked the attendant a question, and went back in.

When he came out again two minutes later, he suddenly lunged for the exit door, grabbed the handle and tried to open it. Two attendants grabbed him, but he pushed them away, and the attendants signaled for help from several passengers and notified the cockpit by telephone. Hudek punched one flight attendant twice in the face and struck at least one passenger in the head with a red dessert wine bottle.

As the struggle continued, a flight attendant grabbed two wine bottles and hit Hudek over the head with each - breaking at least one of them, Highley wrote. According to one flight attendant, "Hudek did not seem affected by the breaking of a full one litre red wine bottle over his head, and instead shouted, 'Do you know who I am?' or something to that extent," the complaint said.

One passenger got him in a head-lock, but he broke out of it, until finally several passengers held him long enough to place zip-tie restraints on him, Highley wrote. Even then he remained combative, she said, and it took multiple passengers to keep him restrained until the plane landed and Port of Seattle police arrested him. One flight attendant and a passenger were taken to a hospital after suffering severe facial injuries.

The flight left for Beijing later Thursday night. Hudek has been charged with interfering with a flight crew, which carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $US250,000 ($A328,657) fine. He is expected to remain in custody at least until a detention hearing on July 13.

From Business Insider:

Hudek had been traveling on a "dependent pass," the complaint said. Such passes allow certain relatives of Delta employees to fly standby.

Passenger Dustin Jones told KIRO-TV that he saw the man being rolled into the terminal in a wheelchair after the plane landed.

"He started yelling for help," Jones said. "And so he turned the wheelchair over in the middle of the airport, screaming for people to help him, just being belligerent."

Clarion: Jihadi Cult Associate Arrested in NY With Firearms Stockpile
From July 3rd, but still of interest, I think. Muslims of America have appeared regularly in our pages since 2005.
[Breitbart] A long-time associate of a U.S.-based Islamist terrorist organization, Moslems of America (MOA),
... also known in English as Muslims of the Americas when they are talking about their Canadian and Caribbean ventures, and formally as The Muslims of America, Inc. (TMOA). The estimated 3,000 member group, mainly African-Americans, boasted 22 communities across the U.S. last year, and is one of the American front groups of Jamaat ul-Fuqra or Jamaat al-Fuqra, the other being Quranic Open University. Jamaat ul-Fuqra was listed as a terror organization by the State Department in 1999 and is banned in Pakistan. The Wikipedia page is quite interesting...
has been tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
in Johnson City, NY. Authorities discovered that he had a large cache of weapons inside a storage locker. A source inside MOA says the weapons were intended for the group’s "Islamberg" headquarters in Hancock, NY.

The suspect, 64-year old Ramadan Abdullah, was previously arrested in 1977 when he and another man tried to rob a candy store in Brooklyn and someone was murdered in the process. When police searched his home, they found enough material to build 50 bombs. In the end, the charges against Abdullah were strangely reduced (see below).

On May 31, Abdullah was arrested after trying to steal four boxes of ammunition from a local Gander Mountain store.
"I just can't help m'self, y'r honor. The doc said I'm a kleptomaniac."
When police questioned him about the purpose of the ammo, his answers made them suspicious, and they obtained a search warrant for a storage locker he was renting in the town of Union.

During that search, police found a large assortment of weaponry including:

  • 8 assault weapons

  • 4 loaded handguns

  • 1 loaded shotgun

  • 2 rifles

  • 64 high-capacity ammunition feeding devices

  • flak jackets

  • 1,000s of rounds of ammunition, including .50-caliber armor-piercing rounds
Searches of other residences linked to Abdullah turned up another loaded handgun, more high-capacity ammunition feeding devices and ammunition, including .38-caliber rounds.

New York State Police Major Jim Barnes would not say whether Abdullah was connected to terrorist groups or any organizations, but confirmed that police believe Abdullah had made trips overseas.
Oh? Was Pakistan or Afghanistan one of his destinations, or perhaps somewhere even more interesting?
"There’s no indications there was a plan in place to commit an act of violence. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
it begs the question, what was he doing with all this and what were his intentions down the road?" said New York State Police Maj. Jim Barnes.
It does, indeed.
Abdullah is currently being held in the Broome County Jail without bail.

5 die in Line of Control shelling
As India-held Kashmir braced for stepped-up policing Saturday on the occasion of the first death anniversary of famed Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, Indian troops resorted to heavy shelling in different areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from across the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

At least five civilians, four of them women, were reported killed and 10 others injured in the shelling incidents, the highest death toll in a single day in many months of cross-border violence.

“There has been heavy firing and shelling by Indian troops in different parts of Abbaspur and Hajira sectors since 5:30am in the morning,” said Raja Tahir Mumtaz, the deputy commissioner of district Poonch, where these two sectors fall in.

He said Mohammad Sharif, a 75-year-old resident of Bhaira village near the Tetrinote crossing point in Hajira sector, lost his life after a mortar shell landed on his mud-house, destroying it completely.

Apart from him, 70-year-old woman Sassi Begum was also killed in Tetrinote. She had come from Mandhol village in Battal sector to see her relatives in Tetrinote.

DC Mumtaz said Riyasat, 35, and Aqsa Iftikhar, 18, were injured in Tetrinote.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman, Faiza Saleem, was killed and two young girls — Adiba, 22, and Mahnoor, 17 — were injured in Satwal village of Abbaspur sector. They belonged to the same family, Mumtaz said.

Another woman, Kulsoom, 35, was killed and her 14-year-old son Zahid injured in the Dhakki Chafar village of Abbaspur sector, he added.

“Initially, Zahid was injured and when Kulsoom rushed to rescue him, she too fell victim to the shelling and died on the spot,” the deputy commissioner said.

Abida Parveen, 22, was injured in Chafar and two teenaged boys, Rizwan Hanif, 16, and Faizan Ali, 14, were injured in Batol and Chaatra villages of the same sector, he added.

“These are the initial reports, but given the magnitude of shelling, I am afraid the casualties may rise,” the deputy commissioner said.

In Kotli district, a 22-year-old girl, Aniba Jamshed, was critically injured in Indian firing in the Lanjot village of Nakyal sector at about 6:30am.

"A bullet fired by the Indian troops hit her in the head, rendering her critically wounded," a police official told Dawn from Nakyal police station, adding that she was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital Kotli.

“The woman [later] succumbed to her injuries in the afternoon,” SSP Kotli Chaudhry Zulqarnain Sarfraz told Dawn.

Elsewhere in the same sector, two men — Mohammad Ilyas and Jahangir — were injured in the Oli Panjni village, he added.

The heavily militarised LoC that splits the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir between Pakistan and India has been extremely tense for quite some time, and as a result civilian casualties occur frequently.

The latest casualties have pushed the number of those killed in AJK in Indian shelling during the ongoing year to 18 and those injured to over 105, according to officials at the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

FO lodges protest with India
The Foreign Office (FO) summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to lodge a protest against the "unprovoked" ceasefire violation.

The FO's Director General (South Asia and Saarc), Dr Muhammad Faisal, lodged the protest.

"The deliberate targeting of civilians is deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," Faisal said.

He urged India to respect the 2003 ceasefire agreement, to investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, to instruct Indian forces to respect the agreement, and to maintain peace on LoC.

Can I make my Colorado voter information confidential?
[TheDenverChannel] If you’re concerned about what the Trump administration’s controversial Election Integrity Commission might do with your personal voting records when Colorado hands over what it’s legally bound to do later this month, there are a few remedies, but you have to meet certain criteria to have your information be made confidential.

Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams reiterated Wednesday that he would hand over to the commission what he is already required to give to anyone under state law: a voter’s full name, address, party affiliation and date the person registered, phone number, gender identity, birth year, and information about if a person has voted in prior elections.

He said he wouldn’t hand over a voter’s Social Security number or full date of birth--two things the commission requested but will not get, as those things are not public record in Colorado.

It's possible to de-register to vote, though the Denver Elections Division advises against doing so.

Colorado says there are more than 2,500 active participants in the Address Confidentiality Program, and that more than 4,000 people have used the service since it started in July 2008.

The state says it plans to send the voter rolls over to the commission by 8 a.m. July 14.

80 Maute militants left in Marawi
[GMA News] The number of Maute militants being pursued by security forces in Marawi City has gone down to 80. Joint Task Force Marawi spokesperson Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said, "The remaining local terrorist group is more or less around 80, and they have still occupied vantage positions as we move forward to the center of gravity."

Herrera said the remaining Maute militants are holed up in an area within the city's business district with at least 800 buildings. He said the military will continue the air strikes to flush out Maute snipers, who have been slowing down the military advance into the rebel positions. Herrera added that Abdullah Maute is still in command of the remaining Maute militants.

As of July 8, the military spokesman said a total of 366 Maute rebels have been killed by troops. The number of deaths on the government side was at 87, while 38 civilians have been confirmed killed by the terrorists. A total of 1,722 civilians trapped in Marawi City have been rescued.

The conflict is now on its seventh week. Malacañang had said the government might spend at least P20 billion for the rehabilitation of the war-torn city.

5 die in bombing attack in Nangarhar

At least five people including a tribal elder were killed or wounded in an explosion in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

The incident took place earlier today in the vicinity of Pekha district, leaving a local tribal elder dead and four others wounded.

Iran fingered for mortar attack in Balochistan
QUETTA: Iranian forces fired three mortal shells that landed inside Pakistani territory near Panjgur, Balochistan on Saturday. However, no injuries were reported.

Earlier in May, five mortar shells were fired into Taftan, Balochistan from the Iranian border. However, no casualties were reported as all the mortar shells landed in an uninhibited area.

Confirming the incident, Taftan Assistant Commissioner Zafar Kubdani had said: "Five mortar shells were fired from the Iranian side between pillars 104 and 106. Luckily, no casualties occurred."

Last month, the Pakistan Air Force had shot down an Iranian drone in Panjgur after it was found flying deep inside Pakistan airspace.

"The drone was hit by Pakistan Air Force as it was unidentified and was flying at around 3-4 km inside Pakistani territory," read a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said Pakistan had already shared the information about striking down of the drone with the Iranian authorities indicating that the drone was struck down by "our security forces as it was unmarked and there was no prior information about its flight".

Pakistan and Iran share a 900-kilometre-long porous border. Both the two countries had decided in 2014 to boost intelligence coordination to wipe out terrorists from the border region.

Al-Shabab behead 9 civilians in Kenya
[IsraelTimes] Al-Qaeda-aligned terror group has carried out a wave of attacks near the border with Somalia.

Kenyan officials said al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
forces of Evil from neighboring Somalia have beheaded nine civilians in an attack on a village in the southeast.

James Ole Serian, who leads a task force of security agencies combating al-Shabaab, says the attack early Saturday morning occurred in Jima village in Lamu County. Beheadings by al-Shabaab in Kenya have been rare.

The attack occurred in the same area where al-Shabaab engaged security agencies in a day-long battle three days ago.

A senior officer at police headquarters in Nairobi confirmed the incident. "It is true, we have lost nine people in today’s attack," the officer said, without providing further details.

Earlier in the week, three police were killed in an attack on a police post in Lamu, blamed on the al-Qaeda aligned Shabaab.

The Shabaab is fighting to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu but also carries out regular attacks in neighboring Kenya which has troops in Somalia as part of an African Union

Gaza again hit by power shortages as PA blocks payments
[IsraelTimes] Strip’s energy officials say Ramallah is preventing funds from going through Paleostinian banks, causing further cuts.

The electricity authority said two of the three generators at Gazoo’s only power plant were offline because "the Paleostinian Authority in Ramallah stopped all the financial transactions through Paleostinian banks to Egypt to buy fuel."

"This led to the stopping of fuel (deliveries) two days ago from Egypt."

The Energy Authority in Gazoo is paying Egypt for the fuel but must make transfers through Paleostinian banks, which are based in the West Bank and under Paleostinian Authority laws.

A front man for the PA government in Ramallah, Tarek Rishmawi, told AFP that "the main reason for the worsening situation in Gazoo is Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", as they rejected the initiative of (PA President) the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
to end the split" between Paleostinian factions.

He did not confirm or deny the allegations of blocking fuel payments.

The electricity distribution company confirmed only one generator was operating, producing 23 megawatts of power -- which added to other sources means Gazoo currently has a total of 93 megawatts a day.

More than 500 megawatts are required to serve the Paleostinian enclave’s population.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Surprise: American Communist Party Was Tool of USSR
[PJ] Not exactly a stop-press item for the rest of the world, but the New York Times -- as part of its 100th anniversary celebration of its beloved Russian Revolution -- has finally admitted what we already knew. Harvey Klehr, one of the outstanding scholars of Russian penetration of American institutions, writes:
From its founding in 1919 in the wake of the Russian Revolution until the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Communist Party of the United States of America was an instrument of Soviet foreign policy. The Communist International, or Comintern, which was set up under Lenin in 1919 and then disbanded by Stalin in 1943 as a gesture of unity to his World War II allies, regularly sent delegates to oversee the C.P.U.S.A. and transmitted orders from Moscow dictating who should lead the American party and what policies it should pursue.

The dissolution of the Comintern did not end Soviet control over the C.P.U.S.A. Supervision was simply transferred to the newly formed international department of the Soviet Union’s own Communist party.

As with all Leftists, there was no lie the CPUSA would not tell, no policy it would not abandon, no dime on which it would not turn if it suited its larger purposes:

Russian to supply Syrian Navy with new patrol boat
Russians dubbed it the Raptr. It is the Russian version of the Swedish CB-90, which is in use in several navies including the Mexican and US Navy
[SouthFront] Russia will supply the Syrian Coastal Guard with new patrol boats and other equipment, the Shephard Military News website has reported.

According to the report, the delivery of boats will begin in 2017 year and will be completed until 2019. It’s not known what kind of boats it is until now, but it’s believed that Moscow will supply Project 03160 High Speed Patrol Boats.

The Project 03160 is one of the world’s most modern patrol boats with a range of 100 nautical miles and a speed of up to 90 km/h. Equipped with a 2,000-hp twin-waterjet power plan, it also has a modern marine radar and several modern electro-optical night-daytime systems. It’s armed with 14.5-mm Uprava-KORD remote-controlled fighting module and 2 7.62mm machine guns. Such boats can be used for counter-terrorism and special operations, or search and rescue operations SAR.

Through this step, Russia aims to develop the capabilities of the Syrian Coastal Guard and the Syrian Navy and help them to secure the Syrian coast against possible terrorist acts or smuggling attempts. Russia had previously deployed two Project 03160 boats at its Tartus naval facility, but it is still uncertain whether Syria would get them. However, Russia is committed to assist the struggling Syrian Navy according to the Tartus naval base agreement.

Suspected Islamic State Fighter Arrested in Italy
[Breitbart] Italian authorities have tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a 38-year-old Chechen accused of fighting with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Syria and participating in a deadly attack on foreign and Russian journalists in Chechnya, prosecutors disclosed Saturday.

Prosecutors told a news conference in the southern city of Bari that Eli Bombataliev, who had been living in nearby Foggia since 2012, was arrested three days ago on terror charges under emergency measures as he was preparing to depart for Belgium.

They said evidence indicates that he was in touch with the Islamic State network based in Belgium, where he intended to travel as soon as he received an Italian residency permit.

According to wiretaps, the man told his Russian wife that he was prepared to carry out an attack if ordered. "If tomorrow they call to offer myself up, I must do it," prosecutors quoted him as saying.

As part of the operation, authorities expelled the wife, identified as a 49-year-old Russian woman living illegally in Italia, and two Albanian brothers in their 20s who were legal residents.

According to prosecutors, Bombataliev was trying to get his wife to become a jacket wallah, which she was resisting by saying she was his second wife and the first wife should "sacrifice herself first."

Bombataliev allegedly responded that the first wife "is already ready." Authorities are investigating.

Prosecutors said evidence indicates Bombataliev participated in an attack on journalists in Grozny, Chechnya in December 2014 that left 19 dead and that he fought in Syria in 2014 and 2015.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Unconfirmed: Ataman Kositsyn dies in sniper attack
Ukrainians are saying that Cossack formation commander Ataman Kozitsyn has been killed by a sniper. Unconfirmed.

Kozitsyn has disappeared directly after the Battle of Debaltsevo, and it was rumored ( and I totally bought into the rumor) that he was invited for a "sit down" in Russia, and killed.

Last year Kozitsyn appeared back in Lugansk, presumably as a formation commander.

It has to be noted at this point that the Lugansk political leadership (in my opinion and the opinion of several other native Russian speakers in southeastern Ukraine) had killed or wiped out just about every Cossack formation commander and broke up every Cossack formation, all over a three year period.

Kozitsyn is regarded as a criminal among Ukrainian military journalists for his actions during the summer of 2014, when open warfare between Russian backed rebels and the Ukrainians began. and during the battle of Debaltsevo in February, 2015. Kozitsyn's formation has participated in mopping up operations in the later days of the battle, not in the direct assault.

Kozitsyn and his fellow Cossacks had run afoul of the political leadership pf both Donetsk and Lugansk after they protested, vigorously, the collaboration between the political leadership of Donetsk and Lugansk, and the Ukrainians.

Mordechai, in a Facebook post, said this fact showed that Hamas is not actually helping Egypt fight Sinai’s jihadists but rather "enabling the free passage of terrorist elements between Gazoo and Sinai and vice versa."

He added that it also raised questions as to Hamas’s control over the Paleostinian territory.

"Hamas and Islamic State are two sides of the same coin," he wrote.

Afghanistan
Rival Taliban factions fighting in Badghis
Infighting has been reported among the militants of Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada and his rival Mullah Rasool fighters in northwestern Badghis province of Afghanistan.

According to the local government officials, the incident took place on Friday afternoon in the vicinity of Jawand district.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Zahir Bahand confirmed the incident and said at least seven militants were killed from the both sides and six others were wounded,
...pray for sepsis...
citing preliminary information received by the government.

He said four of the insurgents belong to Mullah Hebatullah group while three others belong to Mullah Rasool group.

In the meantime, Bahand said three of the wounded militants belong to Mullah Hebatullah group and three others to Mullah Rasool.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

This is not the first time an infighting has taken place among the two groups of the Taliban but scores of people have been killed or wounded in similar clashes, specifically after the confirmation of the death of their founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.

In a similar clash, involving suicide attacks, dozens of fighters from the two sides were killed and several others were wounded in southern Helmand province last month.

2 Yemen rebel commanders die in Taiz, al-Jouf
[Asharq Al-Awsat] Taiz- Two military commanders have been killed along with other elements in battlefronts in Yemen’s al-Jouf and Taiz during the past two days.

Meanwhile, fighting escalated between the national army and the coup militias of Houthi and Saleh in al-Masloub district as seven militants were killed and 12 others wounded.

Among those killed was pro-Houthi commander Saeed bin Jaber, whose corps arrived with a number of dead and wounded to a market, which compelled the militias to increase security measures in the area surrounding a Houthi-run medical center, according to military sources.

The sources explained that the army targeted the militias with artillery fire at all its sites, forcing them to flee.

In a common matter, informed sources said that the west coast front witnessed clashes late on Thursday, during which a number of militia members were killed and wounded, including a coup commander and his bodyguards, in Kahboub near the coastal city of Mokha, west of Taiz.

Confrontations continue on various battlefronts in west and east Taiz in light of the escalation of shelling by the national army on different locations held by Houthis and Saleh’s supporters.

For their part, the insurgents also stepped up their continuous shelling of residential neighborhoods in Taiz and rural areas.

According to a source in Taiz, the national army continued to carry out attacks on the putschists in the eastern front, especially on Mohammed Ali Osman school and the special forces camp.

The source confirmed that pro-Houthi Commander Abdul-Ahad al-Jabri was killed by an air strike as coalition forces targeted him. Jaber is the field commander and was in charge of coup militias in Mesrakh Front (south of Taiz) before their defeat by the national army forces.

14 militants killed in Ismailia linked to North Sinai attack on Friday: Egypt's interior ministry
[AlAhram] Egypt’s interior ministry has announced the killing of 14 gunnies Saturday near Ismailia governorate was part of security raids after Friday's attack that killed and injured army personnel in North Sinai.

In an official statement Saturday, the ministry said that forces raided a holy warrior hideout after intelligence received showed that a holy warrior training camp for new recruits was being held. The operation came "in the framework of the ministry's efforts to prosecute runaway holy warriors involved in the recent attacks in the country in North Sinai governorate that included targeting some police and armed forces."

During the raid, the gunnies fired heavily at the forces. Some 14 gunnies were killed, five of whom were identified and nine remain unknown, the ministry said.

Some weaponry was found in the holy warriors' tent, including a machine gun and rifle.

Egypt’s army said in a statement Friday that boom-mobiles targeted a security checkpoint near Rafah in North Sinai and that the army killed 40 gunnies in subsequent operations. Some 26 army personnel were killed during the attack.
Deutsche Welle adds:
In a separate encounter on Saturday, police shot and killed two suspected snuffies in the city of Gazoo, the ministry said. The men were inside an apartment and fired on the officers who were approaching the building to arrest them.

The ministry said the two men were members of a new turban group called Hasam, which has emerged recently and taken responsibility for several attacks around Cairo over the past year targetting police and judges. Rooters reported that Hasam had grabbed credit for the killing of a homeland security officer on Friday in the north of Cairo.

Omaha man threatened to kill Sen. Joni Ernst at motorcycle charity ride
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Sen. Joni Ernst led a charity motorcycle ride Saturday in Iowa, one day after a Nebraska man was arrested for threatening to kill her at the fundraiser.

Robert William Simet, 64, of Omaha was taken into custody Friday after telling employees at Loess Hills Harley-Davidson in Pacific Junction, Iowa, that “everybody in the government needs to be killed off” and specifically mentioning Mrs. Ernst.

“The unknown male went on to say that he knew Joni Ernst would be here Saturday and ‘I could kill her, they would kill me, it would not matter, I would win either way,’” said the affidavit filed Friday by FBI special agent Jonathan Robitaille.

As a result, the employee “took that to mean [Simet] was going to kill people if he showed up,” and workers “feared for the safety of US Senator Ernst,” said the agent.

Mr. Simet, who has a firearm registered in Nebraska’s Douglas County, was booked into Pottawattamie County Jail in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

3 Abus, trooper slain in Sulu clash
[PhilStar] At least three Abu Sayyaf militants and a trooper were killed, and 15 soldiers injured in a gun battle between rebels and Philippine troops yesterday morning in Patikul town, Sulu.

The clash broke out when troops zeroed in on the location of the Abu Sayyaf after getting a tip from two kidnapped Filipino fishermen rescued on Friday.

Military spokesman Cirilito Sobejana said troops engaged heavily armed Abu Sayyaf gunmen under the command of Almujer Yaddah in a one-hour firefight at Sitio Darayan at the boundary of Barangays Danag and Buhanginan yesterday morning.

During the clearing operations, soldiers recovered the body of an unidentified Abu rebel. Sobejana said, "Our forces on the ground also spotted the bandits dragging away two bodies of their companions who appeared to be dead."

Sobejana said the two rescued kidnap victims pinpointed the locations of the Abu Sayyaf group that is keeping captive 21 other kidnap victims. He said, "The soldiers are careful in their movements since it is believed that the Abu Syayaf group is still carrying with them around six to seven kidnap victims."

Rocabo and Leones were on board a motorcycle when intercepted and recovered by government forces at Daang Puti, Patikul town. Sobejana said the victims revealed that they were kept under the custody of Abu Sayyaf members Ben Tatoo and Almujer Yadah, along with other kidnap victims.

Rocabo and Leones, crewmen of FB Ramona 2, were seized by the Abu Sayyaf along with captains Noel Besconde and Roy Borja Ramos last December 20 at the Celebes Sea. Besconde was beheaded on April 13 by the Abu Sayyaf group under Yadah at Barangay Tanum, Patikul.

Ramos, on the other hand, was rescued on June 8 in the vicinity of Barangay Lagtoh, Talipao town after he escaped from his captors in Patikul two days earlier.

Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi forces take Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces on Saturday took control over western Mosul’s medieval Old City, the last bastion for Islamic State militants in Iraq’s second largest city, Iraqi media quoted the operations command saying.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, was quoted saying forces took control over the Old City, the birthplace of Islamic State’s self-styled “caliphate” in Iraqi and Syria which was declared in 2014, suggesting the end of IS’s three-year existence in the city.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said earlier that government forces killed 35 Islamic State members and wounded six others while sneaking from the western side of Mosul into the eastern side. It also said Federal Police forces finished their combat missions in the Old City by retaking Nujaifi street, Bab al-Toub and Souk al-Sagha (jewelry market), all previously marked as the last spots remaining in IS grip.

The statement said the militants were escaping the advancing troops in the Old City.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, have been fighting IS out of Mosul since mid October. Late June, troops took over the Old City’s Nuri al-Kabir Mosque where IS first declared the establishment of its rule in 2014 in a sermon delivered by the supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Iraqi generals had said only a few hundred militants remain in a small area in neighborhoods overlooking the Tigris River, which bisects the city.

The war against IS in Mosul has displaced at least 900.000, according to Iraqi and United Nations authorities, and civilians continued to flee as operations reached the last hideouts in the Old City.

11 ISIS troops die in airstrike

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Twelve Islamic State militants died in airstrikes that targeted their convoy west of Mosul, according to local sources, while the group killed 10 others for trying to flee.

The sources told Alsumaria News on Saturday that three consecutive strikes targeted a convoy of Islamic State members in the town of Tal Afar, aq major IS stronghold west of Mosul, killing twelve members including the group’s top “judiciary” official.

Meanwhile, Ahmed al-Shamri, from Nineveh Operations command, told Jordan’s Petra news agency that 10 other IS members were shot dead by comrades for trying to flee the town.

Islamic State have been holding Tal Afar since 2014, with the area becoming one of its most significant bastions in Nineveh province.

So far, offensives by the pro-government Popular Mobilization have isolated the town from the Syrian borders and from Mosul, and recaptured a main military base there.

Earlier on Saturday, government troops reportedly drove out IS militants in central Mosul’s Old City, where they group declared its rule in Iraq in 2014.

The issue of Tal Afar’s invasion has been controversial since Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, launched an offensive in October to retake areas occupied by the Islamic State in Nineveh, most notably the city of Mosul.

The Shia-led Popular Mobilization has occasionally said its fighters were awaiting orders from Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to invade the mostly-Sunni Turkmen town. But regional Sunni powers, especially Turkey, had opposed the notion fearing sectarian consequences, obliging Abadi’s government to reassure that only the official forces would take up the mission.
