The Secret Documents That Help Explain The Qatar Crisis
Qatar made a series of secret agreements with its Gulf neighbors in 2013 and 2014 barring support for opposition and hostile groups in those nations, as well as in Egypt and Yemen.

The existence of the agreements has been known, but both the content and the documents themselves were kept secret due to the sensitivity of the issues involved and the fact that they were agreed in private by heads of state. The agreements were exclusively obtained by CNN from a source from the region with access to the documents.

The Gulf countries have accused Qatar of not complying with the two agreements, which helps explain what sparked the worst diplomatic crisis in the Middle East in decades.

Abiding by the agreements was among six principles the Gulf nations set as requirements to mend relations with Qatar in a statement released last week.

In a statement to CNN, Qatar accused Saudi Arabia and UAE of breaking the spirit of the agreement and indulging in an "unprovoked attack on Qatar's sovereignty."

The first agreement -- handwritten and dated November 23, 2013 -- is signed by the King of Saudi Arabia, the Emir of Qatar and the Emir of Kuwait. It lays out commitments to avoid any interference in the internal affairs of other Gulf nations, including barring financial or political support to "deviant" groups, which is used to describe anti-government activist groups.

The agreement, referred to as the Riyadh agreement, specifically mentions not supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, which the Gulf allies have repeatedly alleged Qatar supports, as well as not backing opposition groups in Yemen that could threaten neighboring countries.

In justifying their boycott launched last month, Qatar's Gulf counterparts accuse Doha of financially supporting Hezbollah and other terror groups, in addition to backing the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

In the first agreement, the countries also vowed not to support "antagonistic media," an apparent reference to Al Jazeera -- the satellite news station based in Qatar and funded by its government -- which other Gulf states accuse of trumpeting opposition groups in the region including Egypt and Bahrain.

A second agreement headlined "top secret" and dated November 16, 2014, adds the King of Bahrain, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Prime Minister of the UAE. It specifically mentions the signatories' commitment to support Egypt's stability, including preventing Al Jazeera from being used as a platform for groups or figures challenging the Egyptian government.

The second agreement specifically mentions Al Jazeera, and not other media outlets like the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya. After the agreement was signed, Al Jazeera had shut down a channel dedicated to Egypt coverage: Al-Jazeera Mubashir Misr.

A supplemental document to the 2013 agreement signed by the countries' foreign ministers discusses implementation of the agreement.

It includes provisions barring support of the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as outside groups in Yemen and Saudi Arabia that pose a threat to security and stability of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, a six-nation group that includes Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.

The agreements do not single out Qatar, as the provisions included apply to all countries who signed it.

In response to CNN questions, a Qatari spokesman said in a statement that it was Saudi Arabia and the UAE who "have broken the spirit of the agreement."

"A full reading of that text will show that the intent of the 2013/14 agreements was to ensure that sovereign GCC nations be able cooperate within a clear framework," said Sheikh Saif Bin Ahmed Al-Thani, director of Qatar's government communication office.

"Their demands -- that Qatar close down Al Jazeera, force the breakup of families, and pay 'compensation' -- are demands that bear no relation to the Riyadh agreements," he added. "Further, at no point did Saudi Arabia or the UAE use the mechanisms in the Riyadh agreement to communicate their concerns to Qatar."

Al Thani said that the current list of demands put to Qatar "represent an unwarranted and unprecedented attack on Qatar's sovereignty, and it is for that reason that they have been rejected by Qatar and condemned by the international community."

"This crisis was triggered by a hacking, fabricated statements, and a coordinated media campaign against Qatar," he said. "From the beginning, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have attempted to conceal facts from the general public, including their own citizens, going so far as to block Al Jazeera and other media outlets within their borders."

The documents hint at longstanding tensions between the countries in the GCC.

In March 2014, for instance, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Qatar because they alleged Qatar was not implementing the first agreement's pledge not to interfere in other countries' internal affairs.

But the agreements also appear to be an attempt to improve relations. Citing "extensive deliberations in which they conducted a full revision of what taints the relations between the [Gulf Cooperation] Council states," the first agreement states that the parties agreed to "abolish whatever muddies the relations."

But the agreements also provide new insight to help explain why nine Middle Eastern countries, led by Saudi Arabia, cut ties with Qatar in June over its alleged support of terrorism.

Qatar has called the allegations leveled last month "unjustified" and "baseless."

Four of the Arab States that boycotted Qatar submitted a list of 13 demands to end the diplomatic crisis, including shuttering Al Jazeera.

The list also included demands to cut ties to extremist organizations, including the Muslim Brotherhood, Hezbollah and ISIS, to halt the development of a Turkish military base in the country and to stop the practice of giving Qatari nationality to their citizens.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said last week that Qatar's had responded negatively to the demands, saying Qatar's response was "overall negative and lacked any substance."

Qatari's foreign minister argued some of the demands violated international law.

"If you are looking at the demands -- there are accusations that Qatar is supporting terrorism -- they are shutting free speech, shutting the media outlets, expelling people. ... So there are a lot of demands which are against the international law," Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told CNN's Christiane Amanpour last week.

Trump administration officials are hoping they can help broker a resolution to the diplomatic crisis. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is making stops in Qatar and then Saudi Arabia this week as part of his trip through the region, where he was already meeting Monday with officials in Turkey -- allied with Qatar in the dispute -- and Kuwait, which is playing a mediator role.

R.C. Hammond, a State Department spokesman, said the purpose of Tillerson's trip was "to explore the art of the possible of where a resolution can be found," and the US was "looking for areas of common ground where a resolution can stand."

"We've had one round of exchanges and dialogue and didn't advance the ball," Hammond told reporters. "We will work with Kuwait and see if we can hash out a different strategy. ... This is a two-way street. There are no clean hands."

President Donald Trump also spoke last week to the leaders of Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

When the Gulf countries first cut ties with Qatar, however, Trump appeared to support the Gulf countries cutting ties with Qatar, saying that Doha had to stop funding terrorism. Trump's comments came following his visit to Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip as president, and contradicted his secretary of state.

Mugabe Makes Third Trip to Singapore to Treatment
[VOA] HARARE, ZIMBABWE -- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is in Singapore for medical treatment, in his third such visit this year, a newspaper reported Sunday.

Africa’s oldest ruler at 93, Mugabe was last in Singapore in May for what his spokesman George Charamba said then was treatment for eye problems.

The Standard said he had left again for Singapore Friday for more medical treatment. Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Chris Mushohwe told the newspaper Mugabe was in Singapore but declined to confirm the reason for the visit.

The ruling ZANU-PF party said Saturday it had canceled a youth rally scheduled for July 14 and to be attended by the president because he would be out of the country.

Charamba and Mushohwe did not respond to calls and messages to their phones for comment.

Despite growing concerns about his health, Mugabe has taken more than 10 trips abroad this year and wants to seek another five-year term in office in 2018.

He has ruled the southern African nation since independence from Britain in 1980.

Giuliani to EU: You'd Be ‘Far Stronger' Without ‘Socialist Economies'
[PJ] Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani applauded President Trump’s Warsaw speech for kicking NATO "in the ass" and waking it up.

"I have friends that, I won’t mention the countries, that say the countries contributed observers, not soldiers" during the Iraq war, Giuliani said at Global Forum 2017 in Warsaw on Thursday. "So somebody has to kick NATO in the ass and wake it up ‐ wake it up to the fact that we all have to contribute and we have an existential threat of, and notice he used the words ’Islamic extremist terrorism.’ Our prior president of eight years never used those words ‐ really important to defeat an enemy to identify them."

"If you can identify them you are halfway on the way to defeating them if you have the kind of resources that we have," added Giuliani, a Trump surrogate during the campaign. "Here’s the thing that surprised me and that I loved about the speech ‐ it was a ringing endorsement of Western civilization and, boy, do we need that."

Self defence technique Krav Maga helping Indian armed forces thwart terror
[India Today] Over three dozen personnel from different armed forces including some commando units are undergoing law enforcement training at the Krav Maga headquarters at Saket area of Delhi.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first PM of India to visit Israel in seven decades with many defence deals signed, a lesser known modern martial art technique from Israel -- Krav Maga -- is helping the Indian armed forces in thwarting terror attacks and also in maintaining law and order.

Over three dozen personnel from different armed forces including some commando units are undergoing law enforcement training at the Krav Maga headquarters at Saket area of Delhi. The personnel are learning tactics to arrest a suspect without killing him. Also, they are learning the tactics to survive knife attacks, stick attacks, multiple attackers and using their rifles and handguns as a 'cold weapon'.

"I brought Krav Maga to India in year 2002 after intensive training in Israel. This is the only self defence technique that is being evolved every moment and that is why it is the best," said Vikram Kapoor, head instructor at International Ultimate Krav Maga Federation.

Krav Maga (which literally means Contact Combat in English) is the most modern self defence technique developed by (Late) Imi Lichtenfled, a Hungarian born Jew, during the World War 2. During the attacks by Nazis on the Jews, Imi developed the technique for the minority to survive the bullying on the streets. Later he served in the Israeli army and developed the technique. The Israeli Defence forces (IDF) mandatorily train in Krav Maga and also Special Forces of many countries.

Mennonite Church USA Votes to Divest from Israel
[Breitbart] The Jerusalem Post reports: The Mennonite Church USA’s decision to divest its holdings in companies profiting from Israel’s presence in the West Bank is antisemitic at its core, an evangelical litigation expert said.

"The resolution of the Mennonite Church USA is confusing and contradictory," said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel and president of Christians in Defense of Israel. Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom.

The church’s resolution, voted on last week in Orlando at the biennial national Mennonite convention, calls to speak out against antisemitism, cultivate relationships with Jewish communities in the US and to examine the role that the church played in the Holocaust. But the issue that has made the most noise is the directive to the Mennonite Church USA’s $3-billion Everence church fund to ensure that it avoids giving any economic support for "Israeli policies in the occupied territories."

New York Times Columnist: ‘Why Does Donald Trump Keep Dissing Jews?'
[Breitbart] The New York Times’ Frank Bruni published a column Sunday in which he accused President Donald Trump of "dissing" Jews.
Senator Chuck Schumer writing for Frank Bruni ?
His examples include Trump’s "initial, strange silence" about antisemitic attacks and bomb threats earlier this year (most of which turned out to be hoaxes by a Jewish Israeli-American, a fact Bruni omits). He also cites the omission of a specific reference to Jews in a statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day (where the connection to Jews is quite obvious), and visit to Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial, that Bruni deems too short.

Oddly, Bruni made no mention of Trump’s visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem -- the first by any U.S. president in office. There could be no more powerful statement of solidarity with the Jewish people. It was not enough for Frank Bruni.

Bruni also slams Trump for declining to visit the Warsaw Ghetto memorial last week on a brief trip to Poland -- though he has to admit, grudgingly, that Ivanka Trump visited the site, and that Trump spoke about the Jewish victims of the Holocaust in his speech in Krasinski Square.

Culture of fear
My heading is, as too often, inspired by a morning squint through the news. The phrase came up a couple of times; I had seen it before. I gather Trumpf’s gauleiters have been trying to isolate the leakers of (often fake) state secrets, from deep within the vast Washington bureaucracy. This, preparatory to firing and prosecuting them. A "culture of fear" has been thereby created, I suppose because the great majority of bureaucrats are Smug Left, and on the side of the leakers. Most would not themselves leak, however: they have not the cojones. Nevertheless they feel a "chilling effect," according to the usual Smug Left media. Good news: I’m all for refrigerating these people.

One of the more important functions of civilization, is to create a "culture of fear" among criminal malefactors, and have upon their actions a "chilling effect."

Porn Featuring Violence Against Women Is More Popular Among Women Than Men
h/t Instapundit
The popular feminist narrative would have you believe that porn is largely consumed by men, and that depictions of violent -- or at least rough -- sex would be a primarily male-dominated interest.

This is untrue, states researcher Seth Stephens-Davidowitz, who says that porn featuring violence against women is significantly more popular among women compared to men.

94 Percent of U.S. Terrorism Fatalities Are Caused by Islamic Terrorists

#4  statistics

a lot depends on definition of terrorism

a lot depends on the start and end time of the data

the part that the Islamic apologist miss or intentionally ignore is that, in muslim majority countries, Islamic terrorism is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of muslims every year

and since Islamic terrorism is Islam in a more virulent form, to me, the real killer of muslims is Islam itself

also, fear of Islam is real and is justified

#5  Read the article. The distinction is between "terrorist incidents" and "terrorist fatalities". If you count terrorist incidents, then 9/11 is counted as one incident, and so is the beating to death, in prison, of a pedophile by an Aryan brotherhood inmate, and so is the Oklahoma bombing, and so is a hate crime directed at a muslim mosque. Counting terrorist FATALITIES factors in the seriousness of the incident, which puts Oklahoma at #2 and 9/11 at #1. Of course, leaving out 9/11 skews the measures further. Oklahoma accounted for most of the remaining 6%.

As expended, The leftist trolls responding to the article clearly avoid the point, insisting on counting incidents instead of fatalities.

GOP activists put Congress on notice: Repeal Obamacare or get voted out
[McClatchy Report] WASHINGTON - Frustration is mounting among Republican activists over the GOP’s continued failure to repeal and replace Obamacare, with grassroots groups now warning of consequences for lawmakers in the 2018 elections if the Senate doesn’t reach a deal soon.

"Activists, real grassroots people, are absolutely disappointed, and to some point I’d say devastated, over what we feel like is a broken promise," said Donald Bryson, the state director of the North Carolina chapter of Americans for Prosperity, an influential conservative group backed by the Koch brothers.

"A lot of these people are just really like, ’Why wasn’t there a plan? Why don’t you all have a sense of urgency?’" he said, even as he noted that conservatives could still support the ultimate repeal bill.

In a surprise move last week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delayed a vote on the measure until after the July 4 recess in an effort to lock down more support for the bill. Lawmakers are now scrambling, again, to hammer out an agreement to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act that won’t cause either the moderates or the conservatives to jump ship on a proposal that was at the very heart of the Republican message for years.

After all, McConnell can only afford two "no" votes, and going into the recess this week, there remained considerable opposition to the bill drafted in secret.

U.S.-Russian ceasefire deal holding in southwest Syria
[Reuters] A U.S.-Russian brokered ceasefire for southwest Syria held through the day, a monitor and rebels said on Sunday, in the first peacemaking effort of the war by the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.

The United States, Russia and Jordan reached the "de-escalation agreement," which appeared to give Trump a diplomatic achievement at his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Germany this week.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said "calm prevailed" in the southwest since the truce began at noon (0900 GMT) on Sunday despite minor violations.

Combatants briefly exchanged fire in Deraa province and in Quneitra around midnight, but this "did not threaten the ceasefire," said Observatory Director Rami Abdulrahman.

Major Issam al Rayes, spokesman of the Southern Front coalition of Western-backed rebel groups, said "a cautious calm" continued into the evening.

"The situation is relatively calm," Suhaib al-Ruhail, a spokesman for the Alwiyat al-Furqan faction in Quneitra, said earlier.

Another rebel official, in Deraa city, said there had been no significant fighting. It was quiet on the main Manshiya front near the border with Jordan, which he said had been the site of some of the heaviest army bombing in recent weeks.

"Syrian ceasefire seems to be holding ... Good!" Trump tweeted on Sunday.

Victor Davis Hanson: Will California Ever Thrive Again?
[IBD] There was more of the same old, same old California news recently. Some 62% of state roads have been rated poor or mediocre. There were more predictions of huge cost overruns and yearly losses on high-speed rail -- before the first mile of track has been laid. One-third of Bay Area residents were polled as hoping to leave the area soon.

Such pessimism is daily fare, and for good reason.

The basket of California state taxes -- sales, income and gasoline -- rates among the highest in the U.S. Yet California roads and K-12 education rank near the bottom.

After years of drought, California has not built a single new reservoir. Instead, scarce fresh aqueduct water is still being diverted to sea. Thousands of rural central California homes, in Dust Bowl fashion, have been abandoned due to a sinking aquifer and dry wells.

One in three American welfare recipients resides in California. Almost a quarter of the state population lives below or near the poverty line. Yet the state's gas and electricity prices are among the nation's highest.

One in four state residents was not born in the U.S. Current state-funded pension programs are not sustainable.

Britain
Church Of England Considering Special Services To Celebrate Gender Reassignment
[Daily Caller] The Church of England voted Sunday to consider holding special services when a member of the congregation announces a new gender identity or undergoes gender transformation.

The vote took place during the Church of England’s general synod meeting which began Friday. England’s bishops voted 30-2 in favor of the services, which clergymen said would help those who "suffer from transphobia," the BBC reported Sunday.

The vote called the House of Bishops "to consider providing some nationally commended liturgical materials which may be used in parish churches and chaplaincies to provide a pastoral response to the need of transgender people to be affirmed following their long, distressing, and often complex process of transition."

The synod also voted Saturday to ban conversion therapy for LGBT Christians, arguing that the Bible does not condemn gender transition or homosexuality.

"As the world listens to us, the world needs to hear us say that LGBT orientation and identity is not a crime," said the Archbishop of York, Dr. John Sentamu. "LGBT orientation and identity is not a sickness. And LGBT orientation and identity is not a sin."

Clergy members voted 127-28 in favor of the changes, and the general congregation members voted 127-48.

"I hope that we can make a powerful statement to say that we believe that trans people are cherished and loved by God, who created them, and is present through all the twists and turns of their lives," Reverend Chris Newlands, who proposed the motion, said.

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

James Hacker: Humphrey, what's a Modernist in the Church of England?

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Ah, well, the word "Modernist" is code for non-believer.

James Hacker: You mean an atheist?

Sir Humphrey Appleby: No, Prime Minister. An atheist clergyman couldn't continue to draw his stipend. So, when they stop believing in God, they call themselves "Modernists".

James Hacker: How could the Church of England suggest an atheist as Bishop of Bury St Edmunds?

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Well, very easily. The Church of England is primarily a social organization, not a religious one.

James Hacker: Is it?

Sir Humphrey Appleby: Oh yes. It's part of the rich social fabric of this country. So bishops need to be the sorts of chaps who speak properly and know which knife and fork to use. The sort of people one can look up to.

Nearly 500 police hurt in G20 clashes
[IsraelTimes] Nearly 500 coppers were maimed in festivities with protesters during the G20 summit, officials say, after fresh riots broke out overnight.

Violence continued to rage after G20 leaders returned home yesterday, with far-left protesters setting fire to a number of vehicles into the early morning hours, according to police.

Demonstrators gathered after the close of the summit in the Schanzen district, a stronghold for hard boyz which was the site of multiple confrontations since Thursday.

Armed with glass bottles and targeting vehicles, many of which they set on fire, the protesters were pushed back by officers, using water cannons and tear gas, police said on Twitter.

At a news conference, the head of operations for Hamburg police, Hartmut Dudde, said 476 officers had been injured since Thursday in a deployment of more than 20,000 officers, and 186 people were detained. No accurate number for protesters injured was available.

Hezbollah spoiling for a fighting near Arsal
Bekaa (eastern Lebanon) – “Hezbollah” will likely wage a new battle along the Lebanese-Syrian border in order to assert its control over the Syrian town of Fleita that lies near Lebanon’s northeastern region of Arsal.

Lebanese sources stressed that the upcoming battle will strictly take place within Syria and not on the Lebanese side of the border.

“There are no indications in Lebanon that preparations for any battle are being made,” they told Asharq Al-Awat.

“There are no gatherings for ‘Hezbollah’ members and the Lebanese army is deployed in the area as is required for it on the border,” they added.

“No extraordinary reinforcements have been witnessed,” they explained.

Circles close to the militant party have however spoken of the arrival of the elite so-called “Radwan forces” to Fleita, which lies five kilometers away from the Lebanese border.

Members of the Nusra Front are deployed on the hills in the area.

“’Hezbollah’ is seeking to carry out limited operations on the Syrian side of the border against al-Nusra Front in order to stop the group from launching attacks against it,” said the Lebanese sources.

They made their statements in reference to repeated attacks al-Nusra Front has staged against ‘Hezbollah’ locations in Fleita.

On Saturday, Syrian regime jets carried out airstrikes against al-Nusra Front’s positions in the area. It had made similar raids two days earlier in wake of an attack the group had carried out against a “Hezbollah” position in the area.

“Hezbollah” circles told Lebanon’s Markazia news agency that a battle in the region was imminent “because what is taking place on the outskirts is no longer bearable.”

“A fast decisive battle is linked to how prepared and fortified the armed groups are,” they said.

In addition, they said that “Hezbollah’s” militants will attack from Syria, not Lebanon. They will be backed by Syrian regime forces in order to surround the ISIS and al-Nusra Front members that are present in uninhabited areas.

The Lebanese army will meanwhile surround them from Lebanon, they added.

“We are coordinating our actions with the Lebanese army in order to limit human casualties as much as possible,” they stressed.

“There can be no turning back from this battle and it will not end until all gunmen have left the outskirts,” they added.

“Hezbollah” had also blamed al-Nusra Front for the recent failure to “voluntarily” return five Syrian families to their hometowns of Aasal al-Ward. The families were residing in Lebanon’s Arsal.

The militant group blamed al-Nusra for the failure, saying that it was using this file as a means to pressure it.

12 die in Benghazi fighting
Cairo – The Libyan National Army (LNA) announced on Saturday that it was still pursuing the remaining extremists in the northern city of Benghazi only days after it announced that it was liberated from the gunmen.

Military and medical officials announced that 12 members of the army were killed and 35 others injured in battles that had erupted in the city.

LNA commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar had announced the liberation of Benghazi on Wednesday after three years of battles with extremists.

An official spokesman for the special forces said that five terrorists were arrested and nine others were killed during an operation to liberate the republican hospital in the city.

The special forces succeeded in securing the facility and nearby areas, as well as al-Nouran hotel and other neighborhoods in the Sidi Akherbish area.

Haftar’s forces have meanwhile been sweeping the final extremist pockets in al-Sabri neighborhood, which is still held by the army’s opponents.

The LNA was forced to abandon the use of heavy artillery in its fighting for fear of mistakenly targeting locals due to the narrow streets in the area.

At least five of the LNA’s opponents were killed and 11 arrested, including six Libyans, four Egyptians and a Tunisian, LNA officials said.

Haftar launched his “Operation Dignity” campaign in May 2014, slowly gaining the upper hand against militants and former rebels who fought slain leader Moammar Gadhafi in the 2011 uprising.

Iraq
ISIS Big Turban wounded in Salahuddin airstrike
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A Syrian national designated by the Islamic State as a governor of combined Iraqi areas was seriously wounded Sunday in an airstrike in Salahuddin.

A local source told Alsumaria News on Sunday that the commander, whose identity was was not revealed, was seriously injured, while two of his assistants were killed, in an airstrike that targeted their rest house in Zuweya, northeast of Salahuddin.

The commander was holding a secret meeting at the facility, the source told the network, citing available security information.

The Islamic State appointed the Syrian in mid February as its new commander in the stronghold town of Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk, but also charged him with the group’s commands in Salahuddin and Diyala provinces which had been relocated to Hawija.

Islamic State has lost hundreds of its senior local and foreign commanders since Iraqi government troops, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, launched an offensive in October against IS pockets, especially at the city of Mosul where the group is reportedly hours away from losing its previously-proclaimed capital.

The Iraqi government is expected to charge at other Is havens across Iraq, including Salahuddin, once it finishes its campaign in Mosul.

Somali forces say they kill 18 insurgents in northern Puntland region
[AlAhram] Somali security forces said on Sunday they had killed 18 Islamist bully boyz during an operation in the northern region of Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, although the snuffies denied sustaining any casualties.

"We killed 18 snuffies and burnt six of their bases in Galgala hills in an operation over four days to eliminate al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
," said Colonel Mohammed Ismail, a senior officer in the Puntland Security Force.

"We also took their weapons. We burned their food and medicine stores."

Puntland's security forces are trained and supported by a small number of U.S. operatives based in the semi-autonomous northern region. It was not clear whether the United States had any involvement in the operation.

Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked myrmidon group that wants to impose strict Islamic law, confirmed there was a raid but denied there were any casualties.

"Puntland attacked us today but we repulsed and chased them away. No casualties at all," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, the front man for al-Shabaab's military wing, said by phone.

ISIS claims Israeli UAV hovers over Sinai
[Ynet] In a video uploaded by the terror group showing a recording of Friday's deadly terror attack in northern Sinai which left 23 Egyptians dead, ISIS claims Israeli UAV can be seen hovering in the skies as it provides succor to Egyptian military.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) uploaded a video clip to the internet Sunday showing a terror attack it carried out Friday in northern Sinai in which a UAV can also be seen, which the group claims belongs to Israel.

According to the organization, the Israeli drone was hovering over the area as part of the assistance it provides to the Egyptian government.

It is not the first time ISIS has accused Israel of assisting the Egyptian military in its fightback against the terror movement.

On Friday, ISIS Death Eaters unleashed a suicide boom-mobile and heavy gunfire on an Egyptian military checkpoint in northeastern Sinai Peninsula, leaving 23 security troops including a special forces colonel dead and wounding at least 33, authorities said.

In light of the attack, Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", in Gazoo announced Sunday that it was beefing up security on its southern border.

Trump Brokers $7.6 Billion Israeli Missile Deal to Poland
HT Muqata on FB
The $7.6 billion deal that Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz announced last Thursday morning, during President Donald Trump's visit to Warsaw, revolves around Israeli Rafael Advanced Defense Systems' technology without which the Poles would have nothing to do with the deal.

The US-based Raytheon is Rafael's close partner in the development and production of Stunner, the interceptor of the David's Sling system, which is possibly the world's most advanced interceptors in its class‐it can be fired at ranges from 25 to 300 185 miles. Stunner works well with both Rafael's David's Sling system and Raytheon's Patriot system, and the Poles want the Stunner inside their Patriot system.

Macierewicz announced on live TV Thursday that "a memorandum was signed tonight that the US government has agreed to sell Poland Patriot missiles in their most modern configuration." A memorandum signed between the US and Poland includes and American commitment to include in the deal technology related to SkyCeptor missiles and the 360-degree radar.

The 360-degree radar peripheral defense is also a Rafael development.

Macierewicz said on Thursdays that he had told Defense Secretary Jim Mattis that the SkyCeptor missile and 360-degree radar technology are critical, and without them there would not deal.

Here's a cute note: Victor Murakhovsky, editor-in-chief of the Russian magazine "Arsenal of the Fatherland," told RIA Novosti that Patriot is an "aging system that doesn't bear comparison with Russia's S-400 missile system."

"This system does not represent a threat to Russia," Murakhovsky insisted. "You have to remember that despite its gradual modernization it has a number of shortcomings. Secondly, after all it is a defensive type of system and is not capable of using any type of attack missiles. If you compare it with Russia's S-400 air defense system, the Patriot is inferior in a range of parameters, in particular with regard to its mobility and ability to combat high-precision ballistic missiles."

Which suggests the Russian are very worried.

Republican People’s Party leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu launched the 450-kilometer (280-mile) march after a parliamentarian from his party was imprisoned in June. The march grew into a protest of the massive crackdown on people with alleged links to terror groups that began after a coup attempt last summer.

"If only there was no need for this march and there was democracy, media freedoms, if civic society groups could freely express their opinions," Kilicdaroglu told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named as he headed Friday into the final stretch of his marathon march.

Once seen as feeble in his role as opposition leader, Kilicdaroglu has emerged as the voice of many Turks and been likened to India’s Mahatma Gandhi, who led a nonviolent march against British colonial practices.

Tens of thousands of people have joined Kilicdaroglu throughout his march in scorching heat, chanting "rights, law, justice." Hundreds of thousands of people greeted Kilicdaroglu while waving Ottoman Turkish flags and flags emblazoned with the word "justice."

Organizers said the weeks-long event expressed "a collective, nonpartisan desire for an independent and fair judicial system" that they claim is lacking in Turkey. No party flags or slogans were allowed on the march.

The government has accused Kilicdaroglu of supporting terrorist groups through his protest. Turkey’s President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has said he is violating the law by attempting to influence the judiciary.

Turkey’s definition of supporting terror is so broad that it has caused an impasse in the country’s bid for European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
membership.

Parliament member Enis Berberoglu was sentenced last month to 25 years in prison for revealing state secrets, convicted of leaking footage to an opposition newspaper suggesting that Turkey’s intelligence service had smuggled weapons to Salafist tough guys in Syria.

In a New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
op-ed Friday, Kilicdaroglu called the case against Berberoglu "the last straw in a series of antidemocratic moves" by Erdogan’s government "targeting tens of thousands of Ottoman Turkish citizens -- politicians, journalists, academics, activists or ordinary citizens."

Following last year’s failed coup, the government imposed a state of emergency leading to the arrest of more than 50,000 people and the dismissal of some 100,000 civil servants. A dozen politicians from the pro-Kurdish opposition party have also been tossed in the calaboose
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
Ordinary citizens, sacked public employees and high-profile figures have joined Kilicdaroglu on his march. Novelist Asli Erdogan and leading Kurdish politician Ahmet Turk, both released from jail pending trial on various terror-related charges, as well as Yonca Sik, the wife of a prominent journalist currently in prison, were just a few.

Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin said 15,000 coppers were providing security at the post-march rally.

The US Consulate issued a security message asking American citizens to exercise caution as "forces of Evil have targeted political rallies in the past, and that demonstrations and large events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence."

Egyptian, Palestinian leaders meet amid likely Gaza shakeup
[Ynet] Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi met Sunday amid signs of a rapprochement between

Cairo and the Islamic Death Eater Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", group that could shake up Gazoo's political landscape and sideline the Paleostinian president. Officials close to Abbas said the Paleostinian leader had requested the meeting to seek clarifications on what appears to be an emerging power-sharing agreement between Gazoo's Hamas rulers and an exiled Abbas rival, former Gazoo strongman Mohammed Dahlan.

Under the deal--parts of which have been confirmed by other parties involved--Hamas would retain control over Gazoo's security, while Dahlan would eventually return to Gazoo and handle its foreign relations.
The Times of Israel adds:
Separately, Dahlan and Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, reached several understandings, according to officials on both sides. Abbas’ aides said such contacts would only have been possible with Egypt’s blessing. Dahlan is a former leading figure in Abbas’s Fatah movement who fell out with the Paleostinian president in 2010, went into exile and has since forged strong ties with the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

The officials said they were told that as a first step, Dahlan was expected to disburse $50 million in UAE funds to the families of those killed in the Hamas-Fatah street fighting of 2006 and 2007. One of his main lieutenants, Samir Masharawi, an exiled Fatah leader from Gazoo, was to return to the territory to start implementing the deal.

Frenchman held for planning terror attack with Belgian pair
[IsraelTimes] Suspected jihadis nabbed in wave of arrests after weapons cache sparks fear of ’imminent attack in La Belle France or Belgium’
When did three arrests become a wave?
A 42-year-old French national appeared in court Sunday on suspicion of plotting a terror attack with multiple weapons alongside two Belgian brothers who were charged in Brussels this week, judicial sources said.

According to a source close to the inquiry, the man -- whose name was not given but who was known to the authorities for being radicalized -- was placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
near the northern city of Lille.

Gay Paree prosecutors have opened an inquiry on suspicions of terrorist conspiracy.

The suspect is believed to be connected to Akim and Khalid Saouti, two brothers who were charged in Brussels on Wednesday with belonging to a "terrorist group" and were believed to be planning an attack with a large stash of weapons including Kalashnikov rifles.

The pair, who were arrested the previous night in the Brussels suburb of Anderlecht, are brothers of convicted jihadist Said Saouti, a member of the Kamikaze Riders, a notorious bikers’ club based in Brussels.

Last year, Saouti was incarcerated

four times for acts of violence and theft and was put under surveillance after leaving prison in May 2015 where he was believed to have been radicalized.

He was then observed making several trips to Belgium, where he met the Saouti brothers with all of them seen handling bags at a garage in Anderlecht.

"The fear of an imminent attack in La Belle France or Belgium led to a wave of arrests," a source close to the probe said, referring to last week’s raids.

Inside the garage, they found a box containing three Kalashnikov rifles, a pump-action shotgun, three handguns, four detonators and ammunition as well as uniforms from the police, the security forces and the emergency services.

One of the bags they were seen handling was found at the French suspect’s home, containing several kilos of jewels, the source said. Jihadist propaganda and footage of suicide kabooms were also found on his computer.

Investigators from a joint Franco-Belgian operation had on Wednesday confirmed arresting a 42-year-old man just outside Lille on suspicion of links to the Kamikaze Riders who was planning a "violent attack."

Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi forces tighten noose in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces advanced Sunday in the last few meters held by Islamic State militants in western Mosul as Iraqis prepare to celebrate the group’s three-year-old occupation of the city.

Shafaaq News website quoted security sources saying the troops took over 50 percent of Qleyat and Shahwan regions, the last remaining areas under IS control near the western bank of the Tigris River which bisects Mosul. The remarks were supported by a map published by the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell, marking the two areas.

The WMC said earlier that 30 IS members were killed while fleeing western Mosul to its liberated eastern side via the Tigris River.

On Saturday, troops killed 35 militants and arrested six others on the same route.

Commanders from the Iraqi and U.S.-led coalition commanders said less than 250 meters remained under Islamic State’s control in western Mosul. Military media reported earlier on Saturday that police and army troops converged at Tigris’s western bank.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command’s spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, was quoted Saturday saying forces took control over the Old City, the birthplace of Islamic State’s self-styled “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria which was declared in 2014.

Iraqi media reports said Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was expected to make an official statement sooner declaring the end of Mosul operations and victory over IS.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, have been fighting IS out of Mosul since mid October. Late June, troops took over the Old City’s Nuri al-Kabir Mosque where IS first declared the establishment of its rule in 2014 in a sermon delivered by the supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

ISIS move HQ to Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has considered Tal Afar town, located west of Mosul, as an alternative headquarters for its main departments, after admitting its defeat in Mosul.

AlSumaria News quoted a source as saying that “IS issued a brief statement in Tal Afar announcing that all the IS departments are working through alternative headquarters at Tal Afar, which indicates the group’s defeat.”

“IS admitted its loss at its last stronghold in Mosul’s Old City after a battle between its militants against security troops,” the anonymous source added.

“The shock caused by losing the Old City was hard as the militants used to call it as Baghdadi’s [the group’s supreme leader] strongest lair in Mosul for the many Arab and foreign militants and suicide attackers there,” the source added.

In late June, a top leader in the town declared during a a sermon of Friday prayer that the town has become a temporary headquarter for the Caliphate.

On Friday, the group reportedly canceled the Friday prayers at all mosques in the town after a curfew was imposed in the wake of heavy shelling against procession of a prominent Arab leader there.

A source was quoted last week as saying that non-Iraqi IS militants executed the last local leader in Tal Afar and the town is currently run by Arab and foreign members after eliminating all the Iraqi leaders.

Tal Afar is one of the important strongholds still held by IS in Nineveh since August 2014.

ISIS continues to hold most of Imam Gharbi

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State still controls 60% of the Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State still controls 60% of the Imam Gharbi village in al-Qayara neighborhood located in southern Mosul, which was liberated several months ago, a security source told Shafaaq News.

“Joint military units have managed to liberate 40% only of the Imam Gharbi village after six days from the IS seizure of the village,” the source said.

Last week, twenty-five tribal forces personnel were killed and injured in an attack launched by the IS in the Imam Gharbi village.

The Tribal Mobilization Forces confronted the fighters, which left two personnel killed and 25 others wounded.

Iraqi troops liberated Qayara in August.

Earlier on Sunday, the office of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said the prime minister headed to Mosul to declare the elimination of Islamic State extremists from the city, ending a three-year-old occupation under the extremist group. 3 ISIS suicide bombers die in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Three suicide bombers were killed as they sneaked from the western flank of Mosul city toward the eastern side, the military intelligence department announced.

In a statement on Sunday, the statement said the 16th division killed three suicide attackers, including a leader and his assistant, who were wearing suicide belts and possessing explosives after they sneaked from western Mosul heading toward the eastern side of the city to target civilians and security personnel.

Ealier, a statement by the War Media Cell said that 30 IS members were killed while fleeing western Mosul to its liberated eastern side via the Tigris River.

On the same day, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi arrived in Mosul and congratulated Iraqi forces and citizens on the victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014.

The victory in Mosul comes after eight months of fighting by Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition, against IS militants.

Germany begins withdrawing troops from Turkish air base
[Ynet] Germany began on Sunday to pull its troops out of a Ottoman Turkish air base where they have supported international operations against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. following a row with Ankara over access, a German defense ministry front man said.

The withdrawal from the Incirlik base, approved by the German parliament last month, marks a further step in one of many bilateral disputes, ranging from a post-coup clampdown by Ankara to Ottoman Turkish political campaigning in Germany.

German tornado jets were due to keep operating out of Incirlik at least until the end of July as part of a mission providing reconnaissance aircraft to support US-led coalition operations against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

In the meantime the necessary material was to be moved to a new air base in Jordan, where the planes are scheduled to be deployed by October.

Abbas said to cut salaries of 37 Hamas lawmakers
[IsraelTimes] Deputy speaker calls measure a ’declaration of war’ on Paleostinian Legislative Council; Abbas threatens ’economic sanctions’

The Paleostinian Authority cut the salaries of 37 Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", politicians as part of a series of measures to get the terror group to cede control of the Gazoo Strip, Paleostinian media reports said on Sunday.

The PA finance ministry informed MPs from Hamas’s Change and Reform bloc who are living in the West Bank that they would no longer receive their salaries, First Deputy Speaker of the Paleostinian parliament Ahmed Bahar, told the news site Safa.

Bahar called the measure a "declaration of war" against the Paleostinian Legislative council.

The speaker of the parliament, Aziz Dweik
...Dweik has been associated with The Moslem Brotherhood and Hamas since as early as 1992....
, was among those who had their salaries cut, Bahar said. According to Paleostinian law, Dweik would become Abbas’s temporary successor should the 82-year-old PA president no longer be able to continue his duties.

The Paleostinian parliament has not met since 2007, following a battle between Hamas and the PA’s ruling Fatah party.

Bahar noted the PA cut the salaries of all Hamas MPs living in Gazoo following the terror group’s takeover of the Strip in 2007.

Since April, in a series of measures meant to force Hamas give up control in Gazoo, Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
has cut funds for Israeli-supplied electricity to Gazoo by 35 percent, reduced by one-third the salaries of tens of thousands of PA employees in Gazoo, reduced the medical budget for Gazoo by a reported 90% and forced more than 6,000 PA employees Gazoo into early retirement.

The Paleostinian Authority argues, along with Israel, that Hamas puts taxes it collects into its own coffers and military, while Ramallah pays the bills to keep the Strip’s institutions and infrastructure running.

In June, with Egyptian mediation, Dahlan and Hamas reportedly agreed to establish a new "management committee" of Gazoo, which would see the Fatah strongman share control of the Paleostinian enclave.
Why is President Sisi undermining President Abbas?
In an interview published in the Pan-Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat on Sunday, Abbas said he would make a decision after his meetings in Cairo whether to impose "immediate financial sanctions" on Hamas’s leadership should it continue what he called "the coup on the institutions of the state of Paleostine in Ramallah."

Abbas did not make clear how he would implement the sanctions or what they would be.

Kurd government fingered for expelling Yezidi families

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com): Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of expelling Yezidi families from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region to Sinjar as their relatives joined al-Hashd al-Shaabi.

The KRG had expelled at least four Yezidi families and threatened others since June because their relatives’ joined al-Hashd al-Shaabi, HRW said on Sunday.

HRW stressed that the expulsion of Yezidi families from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region because a relative joined al-Hashd al-Shaabi ‘amounts to collective punishment in violation of international law’.

Lama Fakih, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch, said, “Kurdistan Regional Government authorities should stop expelling Yezidi families because of their relatives’ actions, a form of collective punishment,”

“These displaced families have the right not to be forcibly returned to their still-damaged home villages,” she added.

The HRW said that it spoke to three Yezidi commanders who said that Yezidi forces had been merged into al-Hashd al-Shaabi under the name Yezidi Brigades Kata’ib Ezidkhan, and control four areas in Sinjar.

In 2016, HRW had documented cases in which the KRG’s security forces, Asayish, force families to leave the camps and areas in and around Dohuk and threatened to expel others from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region after knowing that their children had joined forces affiliated with the armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Sinjar.

ISIS lets up on the beatings

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has raised the ban on tackling the issue of the survival of the group’s supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi , in west of Mosul.

“IS militants has lifted the ban on Baghdadi’s murder in Tal Afar town, located west Mosul, which indicates an indirect intention to confirm the news on his death in an airstrike few weeks ago in Syria,” a local source from Nineveh province, told AlSumaria News.

“The group canceled the punishment of 50 lashes over publicly tackles Baghdadi’s survival, a decision that was taken few days ago,” the source added indicating silence on Baghdadi’s death. “However, the recent decisions show that the leaders in Tal Afar received important information that made them cancel the ban.”

Earlier this month after the group ordered the 50 lashes punishment, the militans burnt a top leader to death in Tal Afar over charges of “stirring sedition” through suggesting Baghdadi’s possible demise during a Friday prayer sermon.

On Friday, the group reportedly distributed brief statement in Tal Afar, vowing to post a new audio recording for its leader to show he is still alive.

News reports circulated over the past few weeks have claimed that Baghdadi was killed in an airstrike in Syria.

ISIS kidnaps civilians in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The Islamic State (IS) has detained a number of civilians in the Old City of Mosul, while stressed that security forces are close to liberate the whole city, Mawazin News reported, citing statement by Khalaf al-Hadidi, a provincial council member in Nineveh.

“The security forces are continuing to move towards the liberation of the whole Mosul, especially the Old City in western Mosul,” al-Hadidi said.

“Russian and Afghan members belong to the IS are detaining a number of hostages to tackle the advance of the security forces towards its targets,” he added.

On another note, Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, arrived to the Nineveh Operations Headquarters to meet security leaders.

Abadi congratulated Iraqi forces and citizens for victory over Islamic State militants who had occupied Iraq’s second largest city for three years.

The Prime Minister’s media office said he congratulated “the heroic fighters and the Iraqi people for the great victory”. State TV aired scenes of the Prime Minister’s arrival at Nineveh Operations Command’s office in the city in preparation for a press conference.

The long-awaited victory in Mosul ends an eight-month campaign, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, which has displaced more than 900.000 civilians. It also means an effective collapse of the Islamic State’s self-styled “caliphate” declared from Mosul’s Old City by the group’s supreme leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Report sheds light on Iranian missile factories being built in Lebanon
[IsraelTimes] Hezbollah building at least two subterranean facilities to manufacture medium-range rockets, sources tell Intelligence Online magazine.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group is constructing at least two underground facilities in Leb for manufacturing missiles and other weaponry, according to a report by the French Intelligence Online magazine.

While reports of these subterranean weapons facilities have been published in Arab media outlets before, the Intelligence Online article included two previously unknown pieces of information: the type of weaponry being produced and the approximate locations of two factories.

Sources told the French industry magazine that one of the factories is being built in northern Leb, near the town of Hermel in the eastern Bekaa Valley. The second facility is reportedly being constructed along the southern coast, between the towns of Sidon and Tyre.

According to Intelligence Online, the Hermel facility is being used to produce the Fateh 110, a medium-range missile. The southern facility, meanwhile, will be used to make smaller munitions.

The Fateh 110 has a range of approximately 190 miles (300 kilometers) -- enough to cover most of the State of Israel -- and can carry a half-ton warhead. It is considered fairly accurate, though to what extent is a matter of debate, according to a US Congressional Research Service report.

Israel’s David’s Sling missile defense battery, which went operational in April, is meant to protect the Jewish state against medium-range rockets like the Fateh 110.

In March, the Kuwaiti al-Jarida newspaper reported that Iran had established multiple facilities some 50 meters belowground and protected them with multiple layers of defenses from potential Israeli aerial bombardment, citing an unnamed deputy head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Iranian general was quoted by al-Jarida as saying that the decision to produce rockets indigenously in Leb came after Israel bombed weapons factories in Sudan and supply routes for Iranian rockets via Syria.

The new factories would mark a dramatic upgrade in Hezbollah’s ability to acquire additional, and more precise rockets than ever before.

Rockets produced by some of the new facilities have already been used by Hezbollah in battles in Syria, the Kuwaiti report said.

The latest developments highlight the depth of Iran’s involvement in Syria and Leb, something that both Israel and some Arab states have warned against in recent months.

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot said last week that Israel is in the midst of a major campaign to thwart attempts by Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah to arm themselves with increasingly accurate missiles.

Addressing the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense committee, Eisenkot said that the primary concern for Israel was what he called the "accuracy project" -- efforts by Iran, Syria and Hezbollah to equip themselves with accurate missiles.

"We are engaged in a whole campaign against the accuracy project and it is our top priority," he noted.

Comey's Trump Memos Reportedly Contain Classified Information
[Daily Caller] Four of the seven memos that former FBI Director James Comey wrote following his interactions with President Trump contained classified information, according to a new report.

The revelation, reported by The Hill, undercuts Comey’s claim during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing last month that he believed that the information in the memos was unclassified.

It would also appear to undermine his criticism of Hillary Clinton regarding her decision to keep classified documents after leaving the State Department in 2013.

Officials who reviewed the memos told The Hill that four of the documents have been marked by the FBI as containing information classified as both "Confidential" and "Secret."

Comey has said that he memorialized his personal meetings and phone conversations with Trump because he felt uneasy about the circumstances of their encounters. Their first one-on-one meeting was a private dinner at the White House on Jan. 27. The pair also talked privately in the Oval Office on Feb.

Kurds set up tax collection system in northern Syria
Neither Assad nor Erdogan will be too happy about that, I s'pect
[ARA News] The Rojava self-administration in the Cizire canton in northern Syria has started to implement a tax income law to support public services in the region, local sources reported.

The tax income will go to support institutions and public services in Cizire canton–Hasakah province.

According to the pro-Rojava administration news agency ANHA, the tax income will be used in support of the health and education services, and to enhance the local security system and to back women rights.

The move only includes the Hasakah province, in northeastern Syria.

According to the local administration, tax laws exist everywhere in the world to back public services in the country.

Every citizen that earns a maximum income of 100,000 Syrian pound (around 200 dollar) per month will be taxed.

Most likely this will include 75 per cent of all citizens of the Cizire canton.

Shia LeBouf: Bombs, Bombed, Busted (Again)
[AJC] Once again, actor Shia LaBeouf had been arrested on charges of public drunkenness, this time in Savannah.

According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office booking log, LaBeouf, 31, was arrested at 4 a.m., Saturday by the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. According to Savannah police, LaBeouf tried to bum a cigarette from a bystander and a Savannah police officer in City Market. When neither the officer nor the bystander would give him one, he started cursing and hurling vulgarities in front of other people at the popular tourist destination. The officer told LaBeouf to leave, but LaBeouf got “aggressive” with the officer, according to police.

The officer tried to arrest LaBeouf, but LaBeouf turned around and ran into a hotel lobby. Police chased him and arrested him there.

In addition to being charged with public drunkenness, he was also charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction. His bond was set at $7,000. The actor has been arrested before for drunken behavior, in New York three years ago and in California for drunken driving in 2008, according to TMZ.
More than that, and not just for intoxication. And according to the Sun, "his war movie Man Down made just £7 at the UK box office in its opening weekend".

Arabia
Yemen: All Muddled On The Western Front
Just the opening paragraph:
[StrategyPage] The war in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
has morphed into two separate conflicts. In the northwest and along the Red Sea coast it is Iran-backed sock puppets of the Medes and the Persians versus the Yemeni government backed by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
(and their local allies plus the United States). The rest of Yemen is a fight between Yemeni government (backed by the Saudi coalition) and Yemeni tribal separatists (backed by al Qaeda). At the same time Yemen has serious economic and social problems that are getting worse because of all the unrest since 2011 (and outright civil war since 2015). Before the civil war began in 2011 the Yemeni GDP was $37 billion. Now it is less than half that and falling. Hunger and disease are increasing as are associated deaths. Foreign aid efforts are often plundered by locals. Yemen has long been considered one of the most corrupt nations on the planet. In 2016 Yemen ranked 170th out of 176 countries. Most Yemenis will agree that corruption is a major problem. Yet most Yemenis are less willing to admit that Yemen is not a country but rather a collection of tribes that don’t get along and cannot agree on how to work together to make a united Yemen work.

India-Pakistan
4 Indian soldiers die in Pak Line of Control artillery attack
In response to "unprovoked Indian firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) that killed five civilians" on Saturday, Pakistan Army on Sunday destroyed two Indian army posts and killed four soldiers, its media wing said.

"Pakistan Army befittingly responded on July 9, causing substantial losses to men and material. Two Indian Army posts firing on innocent civilians have been destroyed, four Indian soldiers killed," read a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of Pakistan Army.

The Army also reiterated its resolve to "protect [the] civil population against unprovoked Indian aggression" at any cost.

The ISPR also released a video purporting to show the two Indian army posts being destroyed.

On Saturday, July 8, the first death anniversary of famed Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, Indian troops had resorted to heavy shelling in different areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from across the LoC. At least five civilians, four of them women, were reported killed and 10 others injured in the shelling incidents, the highest death toll in a single day in many months of cross-border violence.

According to officials at the State Disaster Management Authority, the latest casualties pushed the number of those killed in AJK in Indian shelling during the ongoing year to 18 and those injured to over 105.

Subsequently, the Foreign Office (FO) had summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to lodge a protest against the "unprovoked" ceasefire violation.

The FO's Director General (South Asia and Saarc), Dr Muhammad Faisal, lodged the protest.

"The deliberate targeting of civilians is deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," Faisal said.

He urged India to respect the 2003 ceasefire agreement, to investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, to instruct Indian forces to respect the agreement, and to maintain peace on LoC.

Journalist disappears in Karachi
Abdullah Zafar, a journalist associated with English daily The Nation, was allegedly taken away from his residence in Lawyers’ Society, Karachi in the early hours of Sunday.

Abdullah's father, Zafar, told Dawn that around 10 to 15 people came to his house at around 3:30am and took away his son after blindfolding him. Two of the men were in police uniforms while the remaining men, who had arrived in three vehicles, were in plain clothes, he added.

According to Zafar, the men had also detained his brother after raiding his residence in Shah Faisal Colony.

The plain-clothed men accused Abdullah of giving a "fake cheque" worth Rs50 million, which they said later "bounced". Zafar, however, claimed that his son was innocent and such allegations were "laughable", adding that his son has no association with any religious or political party.

Zafar alleged that an officer at the Sachal police station received his application but "appeared to be reluctant to register the FIR" on his complaint.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Malir, Rao Anwar, told Dawn that the police was not involved in Abdullah's alleged abduction, adding that the Inspector General of Police, A.D. Khawaja, had also asked him to look into the disappearance of the journalist.

Rao Anwar said that he has directed the Sachal police SHO to lodge the case if the family submitted an application.

Zamir Shaikh, resident editor of The Nation in Karachi, told Dawn that Abdullah has been covering the political beat in the newspaper for the last three years.
