Justices allow strict enforcement of Trump refugee ban
Judge Derrick Watson and Dems hardest hit butthurt. I think it also tips where they'll rule when it finally comes before SCOTUS
[ABC10news] The Supreme Court is granting the Trump administration's request to more strictly enforce its ban on refugees, at least until a federal appeals court weighs in.

But the justices are leaving in place a lower court order that makes it easier for travelers from six mostly Muslim countries to enter the United States.

The high court acted Wednesday on the administration's appeal of last week's ruling by U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson that required the government to allow in refugees formally working with a resettlement agency in the United States. Watson also vastly expanded the family relations that refugees and visitors can use to get into the country.

The justices said the federal appeals court in San Francisco should now consider the appeal.

#1  I don't hold much hope the SanFran wackos will keep to the law. They'll go and allow the stupid Hawaii ruling and ignore the Supreme Court.

Hell, at this stage I wouldn't be surprised if they declared the SC decision unconstitutional.

#3  While the appeals court justices are working up their next ruling in a way that will finally persuade the Supreme Court to accept their argument, all involved will have to put other efforts on the back burner, reducing the amount of mischief they can get up to. This is a good thing, I think.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The Fifth American War
h/t Instapundit
The wars between Trump, the media, the deep state, and the progressive party -- replete with charges and counter-charges of scandal, collusion, and corruption -- are merely symptoms of a much larger fundamental and growing divide between Americans that is reaching a dangerous climax.

On four prior occasions in American history the country nearly split apart, as seemingly irreconcilable cultural, economic, political, social, geographical, and demographic fault lines opened a path to hatred and violence.

During the Jacksonian Revolution of the 1830s, factions nearly ripped the country apart over whether the East Coast Founders’ establishment of a half-century would relinquish its monopoly of political power to reflect the new demographic realties of an expanding frontier -- and its populist champions often deemed unfit for self-governance. For the most part, the Jacksonians won.

Three decades later the nation divided over slavery, prompting the most lethal war in American history to end it and force the defeated Confederate southern states back into the Union.

The Great Depression, and the establishment’s inept responses to it, left a quarter of the country unemployed for nearly a decade -- hungry and desperate to expand government even if it entailed curtailing liberty in a way never envisioned by the Founders. The result was eventually the redefinition of freedom as the right of the individual to have his daily needs guaranteed by the state.

In the 1960s, the hippie movement -- fueled by furor over the Vietnam War, civil-rights protests, and environmental activism -- turned holistic in a fashion rarely seen before. A quarter of the country went "hip," grooming, dressing, talking, and acting in a way that reflected their disdain for the silent majority of "straight" or "irrelevant" traditional America. The hipsters lost the battle (most eventually cut their hair and outgrew their paisley tops to join the rat race) but won the war -- as the universities, media, foundations, Hollywood, arts, and entertainment now echo the values of 1969 rather than those that preceded it.

Now we are engaged in yet a fifth revolutionary divide, similar to, but often unlike, prior upheavals. The consequences of globalization, the growth of the deep state, changing demographics, open borders, the rise of a geographic apartheid between blue and red states, and the institutionalization of a permanent coastal political and culture elite -- and the reaction to all that -- are tearing apart the country.

Despite its 21st-century veneer, the nature of the divide is often over ancient questions of politics and society.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Leaks Secret Locations of U.S. Troops in Syria
Yippy is begging for a divorce
In the latest display of Turkish anger at U.S. policy in Syria, the state news agency has divulged the locations of 10 U.S. military bases and outposts in northern Syria where the U.S. is leading an operation to destroy the so-called Islamic State in its self-styled capital of Raqqa.

The list published by the Anadolu news agency points to a U.S. presence from one end to the other of the Kurdish self-administration region‐a distance of more than 200 miles. The Anadolu news agency even listed the number of U.S. troops in several locations and in two instances stipulated the presence of French special forces.

Turkey has openly criticized the Trump administration‐and the Obama administration before it‐for relying in the battle against ISIS on a militia led by Kurds affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers Party or PKK. A separatist movement now at war with Turkey, the PKK has been listed by the U.S., EU, and Turkey as a terror organization.

To avoid the appearance of allying with such a group, the U.S. military set up the Syrian Democratic Forces, which have a large component of Arab recruits. But they are led by officers from the People's Protection Units (YPG), the Syrian affiliate of the PKK.

Although Turkey's powerful president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, regularly vents his anger at the U.S., it is still highly unusual for a NATO ally to reveal details of a U.S. military deployment during active operations in a war zone. But the U.S. operation in Syria is in many respects an unusual case. Not only is the United States acting against the express wishes of NATO ally Turkey, which says its national security is directly endangered, it's also operating without the permission of the Assad regime.

#3  US troops pack up and go as Turkey refuses any help

By Harry de Quetteville in Cizre, Turkey12:01AM GMT 24 Mar 2003
American troops began to withdraw from logistics bases in south-eastern Turkey yesterday as the Pentagon finally conceded that US forces would not be able to move through the country to open a northern front in Iraq.

Turkey has resisted US pressure to allow attacks on Iraq from its soil, forbidding American warplanes to use its air bases and the 4th Infantry Division to set up camps just north of the Iraqi border.

Nonetheless, US military planners had hoped for a change of heart and a small number of US scouts had established a chain of logistics bases from Turkey's Mediterranean port of Iskenderun across the south of the country to its frontier with Iraq.

Yesterday those personnel began to withdraw, with a column of lorries taking men and equipment back to Iskenderun - finally shelving the planned US operation.

At the outset it was assumed that Turkey would renew the help it provided in the first Gulf war, when it allowed coalition aircraft to use the Incirlik air base in return for US financial aid.

#4  At the time, I believed that Turkey refused the 4th ID, recon assets and flights as they were colluding with Saddam to protect the northwestern part of Iraq. This would allow for 'escapees' and their cash to flee (for a price, of course) to Syria.

Upon hearing of the Iraqi/Russian 'CBW Remediation Conveys' heading for Syria (who wouldn't have been able to make that journey if they were being watched or confronted), the collusion became even more apparent. Wonder what the price for this was?

Besoeker nails it with the 'Never trust' statement.

Navy Unveils World's First Active Laser Weapon In Persian Gulf
[ZeroHedge] Three months ago we introduced China's "silent hunter" experimental laser gun, and now, as CNN reports, in the waters of the Persian Gulf looms the US Navy's first - in fact, the world's first - active laser weapon.
Now let us demonstrate the power of this fully armed and operational battle station!
The LaWS, an acronym for Laser Weapons System, is not science fiction. It is not experimental. It is deployed on board the USS Ponce amphibious transport ship, ready to be fired at targets today and every day by Capt. Christopher Wells and his crew.

CNN was granted exclusive access to a live-fire test of the laser.

For the test, the USS Ponce crew launched the target -- a drone aircraft. Immediately, the weapons team zeroed in.

"We don't have to lead a target," Hughes explained. "We're doing that engagement at the speed of light so it really is a point and shoot -- we see it, we focus on it, and we can negate that target."

In an instant, the drone's wing lit up, heated to a temperature of thousands of degrees, lethally damaging the aircraft and sending it hurtling down to the sea. The strike comes silently and invisibly.

"It is more precise than a bullet," Wells told CNN.

"It's not a niche weapon system like some other weapons that we have throughout the military where it's only good against air contacts, or it's only good against surface targets, or it's only good against, you know, ground-based targets -- in this case this is a very versatile weapon, it can be used against a variety of targets."
That slap you heard was the collective sphincters slamming shut from the Iranian speedboat operators.
LaWS begins with an advantage no other weapon ever invented comes even close to matching. It moves, by definition, at the speed of light. For comparison, that is 50,000 times the speed of an incoming ICBM.

"It is throwing massive amounts of photons at an incoming object," said Lt. Cale Hughes, laser weapons system officer.

"We don't worry about wind, we don't worry about range, we don't worry about anything else. We're able to engage the targets at the speed of light."

All the $40 million system needs to operate is a supply of electricity, which is derived from its own small generator, and has a crew of three. No multi-million-dollar missile, no ammunition at all.

The cost per use? "It's about a dollar a shot," said Hughes.
Suddenly sinking drones, missiles and annoying speedboats became cheap.

Say when, Iran.

Thieves stole a backpack from a 7-11 that turned out to be an IED, and police are being very quiet about it
Four Canadians were set on fire ‐ and two are fighting for their lives, according to CBC ‐ after a backpack they stole from outside a Winnipeg 7-11 detonated just before midnight last Saturday night. Originally, it was thought that the fire was an accident of some sort.

In the pickup were two men, 22 and 27, as well as a woman, 20, and a boy, 17. The bag exploded shortly after the truck left the convenience store's parking lot, roughly 160 feet away.

Nick Chastellaine identified himself to CBC as the boyfriend of the woman who took the backpack, presumably the 20-year-old woman. He maintains that his girlfriend intended to hand the bag to police.
right
Chastellaine was not in the truck when the explosion occurred, but says the explosion happened when one of them opened the bag.

"It was a flash before their eyes, because they all thought they were going to die," he said. The four who got burned "were not intended victims," according to Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Constable Rob Carver.

Police won't clarify due to the active nature of the investigation, but they say whoever brought the bag to the 7-11 wasn't the intended victim, either. They may not have even known what they were carrying when they set down the explosive.

So who was the intended target, and who built the IED? Police won't say ‐ at least not yet.
"Don't have a clue"
Constable Carver says "We have some sense of that" but those details are "not something we can release on at this point," adding "there are just elements I cannot speak on."

The Winnipeg Sun reports that Carver described the device as "designed for maximum effect to create what it did in that vehicle." Police say they do not believe there are other devices out there at this time.
based on....?
"We are not looking for any other devices," Carver told CBC. He added that this incident was not considered random in nature, adding "we do not believe that someone has randomly put an explosive device out in the public with the intention that innocent victims could be injured."

#7  Since the police do not believe it to be random, several possibilities spring to mind:
  • jihadis who targetted the shop

  • gangsters encouraging protection money

  • idiots who like making things go boom, or vicious idiots with a grudge
And VRWC's suggestion it was intended to punish a thief. If it was anything except the jihadis, it will be so reported when the miscreant(s) is/are caught. It is odd that the police said the person who dropped off the backpack was not the intended victim, and possibly did not know s/he was carrying a bomb.

Ann Coulter and Delta Airlines: 'Now For the Rest of The Story'
[Blaze] Ann Coulter isn’t done with Delta Air Lines, despite a $30 refund credited to her after a seat mix-up on a recent flight.

Coulter on Saturday excoriated the airline for unceremoniously switching up her pre-booked "extra room" seat on the plane, which she claims cost her an additional $30, and four days later, Coulter is still managing to stir up controversy about what the conservative author and speaker now says was a nefarious plot to inconvenience her.

Tuesday saw Coulter share a text message conversation from who she claimed was a Delta flight attendant, and noted that she was moved for "political" reasons.

Coulter captioned the screenshot on Twitter with, "BEWARE OF @DELTA REPUBLICANS. Texts from a flight attendant: It was political. @Delta still won’t give a reason."

The text thread between what she alleged to be two Delta employees read:

"Someone at the desk saw Ann’s name and picked it on purpose? Is there a randomizer when it comes to these situations?"

The other purported employee answered, "No, someone noticed her, and just wanted to be a jerk amb [sic] make her life miserable."

"That’s what I figured," the first alleged employee responded.

The second added, "Yeah, I said that on several secret FB groups of [XXX Airline] employees, and when I defended her, we went back & forth, and at the end, they acknowledged that it was a Delta employee who targeted Ann on purpose."

Earlier in the day, Coulter doubled down on the previous day’s remarks and said, "After all those snarky @Delta tweets, it’s more likely they had a reason -- and it was a bad one. @Delta still not saying."

Coulter on Monday claimed that the airline took her seat without so much as an explanation.

Teen Vogue under fire after promoting buggery among teens ‐ editor slaps down criticism with this
[Blaze] Magazine Teen Vogue found itself in a a bit of a spot after publishing a "how-to" article on "A Guide to Anal Sex."

Parents of teen subscribers called for a boycott of the magazine, after a July 7 article ran and was chock-full of things the magazine’s editors claimed readers "needed" to know about anal sex.

The article’s author, Gigi Engle, wrote, "Obviously there is a lot of stuff on the Internet about anal (we don’t suggest you Google it), but most of what you’ll find is either porn or advice for experienced sexual persons looking to try something new. What about the teenagers? What about the LGBTQ young people who need to know about this for their sexual health?"

Many parents took issue with "What about the teenagers?" and began a hashtag, #PULLTEENVOGUE, and Elizabeth Johnston -- known in some circles, and on Facebook -- as The Activist Mommy -- implored libraries and local stores to pull the offending Teen Vogue issue from its racks and stands.

Speaking to The Todd Starnes Show, Johnston said, "I was truly flabbergasted. They should not be teaching sodomy to our children."

"This is not a Republican issue or a Democrat issue," she later added. "This is not a conservative issue or liberal issue. This is a parent issue."

Over 20 members of Congress ask the FBI to review Ivanka Trump's security clearance
[Yahoo] WASHINGTON -- Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., has some questions about President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka.

Beyer put together a group of over 20 Democratic members of the House of Representatives who sent a letter to Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe on Wednesday asking him to "conduct a review of a potentially serious issue involving First Daughter and Assistant to the President, Ivanka Trump." The group wants to know if Ivanka properly filled out Standard Form 86 (SF-86), which is the security clearance required for federal officials.

Their questions stem from recent revelations involving Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, who is also a top White House adviser, and her brother, Donald Trump Jr. The SF-86 asks whether "you or any member of your immediate family" has had "any contact" with a "foreign government, its establishment ... or its representatives" in the past seven years. Kushner has updated his security clearance forms three times to add over 100 foreign contacts, including a meeting he attended with Donald Trump Jr. during last year’s presidential election, where they spoke with a Russian lawyer who offered them damaging information on President Trump’s opponent on behalf of the Russian government. Beyer said the news raised questions about whether Ivanka has also updated her forms and whether she included all of her family’s foreign contacts.

Chancellor Angela Merkel rejects refugee limit for Germany in TV interview
[DW] The German chancellor has rejected calls from her sister party to limit the number of refugees entering Germany. In a wide-ranging interview she defended the G20 summit in Hamburg and spending on infrastructure.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel refused to place an upper limit on refugees that the country accepts, speaking in an annual interview broadcast on Sunday.

Distancing herself from the position of her conservative Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU), Merkel, who leads the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said placing a limit on refugees was not the way forward.

"As far as an upper limit is concerned, my position is clear: I will not accept it," she said, saying that numbers could be reduced by regulation and taking action to prevent the situations that cause people to flee one country for another.

Hillary Clinton's Opposition To Russia Sanctions Coincided With Bill's $500K Moscow Speech
[Daily Caller] Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opposed a Russian human rights sanctions bill weeks before her husband gave a $500,000 speech to a Moscow-based financial firm, according to campaign emails published by Wikileaks.
A smiling Sergey Lavrov should always be cause for concern.
Clinton was joined in her opposition to the sanctions bill, known as the Magnitsky Act, by Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who offered Donald Trump Jr. information related to Russian support for Clinton’s campaign. The Magnitsky Act was passed in 2012 and imposes sanctions on Russian human rights abusers.

The Trump administration has attempted to divert attention away from Trump Jr.’s June 2016 meeting with Veselnitskaya by citing the proximity of Clinton’s opposition to the Magnitsky Act to her husband’s profitable Moscow speech.

"If you want to talk about having relationships with Russia, I’d look no further than the Clintons," Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at a mid-July press briefing. "Bill Clinton was paid half a million dollars to give a speech to a Russian bank, personally thanked by President Putin."

Rep. Jordan Wonders If Susan Rice Has Something To Hide
[Daily Caller] Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan is wondering what former national security adviser Susan Rice may be hiding after she postponed her testimony on the unmasking of Trump associates.

Rice was originally set to testify in front of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on Tuesday.

Jordan, who is a member of that committee, said last week that he was looking forward to the testimony because "the American people want to get the truth on all these issues." (VIDEO: Rep. Jordan: Susan Rice Testimony Is An Opportunity To Get The Truth)

After learning of the hearing being postponed, Jordan told The Daily Caller, "It is important that Susan Rice testify before Congress without any further delay."

"I’m beginning to wonder if she has something to hide," he said.

'Women's March' Wishes Happy Birthday to FBI 'Most Wanted Terrorist' Joanne Chesimard
[PJ] On Sunday, the Women's March Twitter account wished a happy birthday to the number one "most wanted terrorist" on the FBI's list, a cop killer who escaped from a life sentence for first-degree murder. The Twitter account later defended this action, saying that although the terrorist "took a militant approach," they can still "appreciate her work."

"Happy birthday to the revolutionary #AssataShakur! Today's #SignOfResistance, in Assata's honor, is by @MeloniousFunk," the account tweeted on Sunday.

"Mama Assata Shakur" is the alias for one Joanne Deborah Chesimard, who ranks number one on the FBI's list of "most wanted terrorists." The agency is still offering $1 million as a reward for information which results in her capture.

A member of the revolutionary extremist Black Liberation Army, Chesimard and her accomplices shot one policeman and executed another at point-blank range in 1973. Before this, she was wanted for several felonies, including bank robbery. While serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, she escaped from prison in 1979. She remains at large in Cuba.

Even a sympathetic profile from Britain's The Guardian newspaper noted that the terrorist, while celebrated among some in the hip-hop community, was part of an organization that took part "in at least 38 criminal incidents."

"You have to look at the history of the BLA," FBI special agent Barbara Woodruff told The Guardian. "Even though she was convicted of one murder, [Chesimard] was part of an organization which, from the 1970s to 1984, were involved in at least 38 criminal incidents, including armed assaults, assassinations, bombings, hijackings -- of those 38, 18 were against law enforcement officers."

No less a figure than CNN host Jake Tapper castigated the Women's March for wishing Chesimard a happy birthday.

"Shakur is a cop-killer fugitive in Cuba," Tapper tweeted. "This, ugly sentiments from [Linda Sarsour] & [the Chicago Dyke March] ...Any progressives out there condemning this?"

Israeli government affirms ban on adoption by same-sex couples
[American Thinker] The Israeli government has again rejected the notion of adoption by same-sex couples, affirming that adoption should be by a man and a woman, and that adoption by same-sex couples places "additional baggage" on the adopted child.

This position is important, as it stands apart from what has become the norm in most Western and industrialized countries of permitting adoption by same-sex couples.

In the United States, before 1973, states commonly barred same-sex adoption. With the rise to prominence of gay rights groups and the 1973 decision by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders (please also see here), states have decided or have been compelled to permit same-sex adoption.

Proponents of same-sex adoption argue that the practice poses no risk to children. Well, aside for the example of gross immorality set by parents who live as a "gay couple," the facts say otherwise. Some headlines of note:

Whispers of Harris for President Circulate at Hampton Donor Party
[Free Beacon] Freshman senator Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) mingled with top Democratic donors in the Hamptons this weekend, where many indicated she may be considering running for president.

The ultimate signal at the Bridgehampton event, a top donor said, was that Harris was "thinking much bigger" than the Senate, The Hill reported.

Democrats have indicated that they want ‐ and are in need of ‐ a fresh face.

"There's a big hunger for somebody new and different," Bill Carrick, who challenged Harris in last year’s senatorial race, said. "There are people who might not know her real well but want to like her. What little they know, they like."

In an election night address, Harris put herself in a position that led her fans to see her as the antidote to Donald Trump.

"Our ideas are at stake right now, and we all have to fight for who we are," she said. "I believe this is the moment in time for our country, where we are collectively being required to look in the mirror, and with furrowed brow, we are asking a questions: ’Who are we?' In California, I believe the answer is a good one. We are a great country."

The Hill reported that donors and fundraisers see Harris as someone who embodies the qualities needed for a Democratic presidential candidate to take the White House in 2020.

"She's running for president. Take it to the bank," one fundraiser said. "She’s absolutely going to run."

#1  Unless Harris can actually convince millions that she doesn't represent a party which perceives them as subhumans, she's not winning anything nationally. The jig is up on that and it will be a generation or more until people have forgotten what "bitter clinger" and "deplorable" mean.

The circles she travels in and the company she keeps virtually assures that it will come to light that she shares the view with the Democratic base that Christians, gun owners, and people who believe in limited government, free enterprise, and intact borders are untermensch. All the sunshine rhetoric about helping "the needy" or that all Americans should have "equal share" of the economy won't fool us the way said rhetoric did in '08 coming from Obama.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
McCain's skull surgery - blood clot could have caused him to act so bizarrely in the Comey hearing
[DailyMail] Senator John McCain was hospitalized Friday after a routine physical discovered a blood clot just behind his left eye.

The 80-year-old Arizona politician had a 5cm clot removed via a minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision.
Though the surgery itself was not considered to be too intrusive, McCain's medical history and bouts of melanoma suggests that the clot could be the sign of a much more serious problem.

And after the Senator's confused questioning of ex-FBI head James Comey in June, a number of people have expressed concern for McCain's mental health and are wondering if the clot could have been affecting him in that way.

Friday's procedure was planned after the clot was discovered during a routine physical earlier in the week, according to a statement provided by his office.

Surgeons at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona went in just below McCain's left eyebrow to remove the clot. While they only had to open a small part of his skull, it was still a very serious procedure, and will likely result in a long recovery period.

No Justification for Importing More Low-skilled Labor, Study Claims
[Breitbart] There is no justification for importing more low-skilled foreign laborers, a new study shows, despite efforts by the Republican establishment to do just that.

Every year, 66,000 foreign guest workers are brought to the United States on the H-2B to take seasonal jobs in blue-collar industries. Due to pressure from the big business lobby and the Republican establishment, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary John Kelly has increased the cap by another 15,000 foreign guest workers.

A study by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), one of the few organizations that compiles data on the H-2B visa and its impact on American wages and unemployment, found that there were 136,000 H-2B foreign workers in the U.S. in Fiscal Year 2016, noting that an increase is not necessary:

Rush on Obamacare Repeal: 'Three female leftest are running the senate.'
[Breitbart] Tuesday on his nationally syndicated radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh ripped Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) for stalling efforts in the GOP-controlled Senate to repeal Obamacare.

By losing those three votes, a repeal is effort is out of reach for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and that according to Limbaugh showed McConnell was not in charge of the U.S. Senate. Instead, he said it was controlled by "three female leftists."

"Now we find out the Republican caucus in the Senate is infected with essentially leftist members," Limbaugh said. "Collins, Murkowski, Capito ‐ these three female leftists in the Republican caucus are running the Senate, not Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell is not running the Senate. These three women are running the Senate. The conservative Republicans in the Senate are not running the Senate. Three liberal women who call themselves Republicans are running the Senate."

4 ISIS suicide bombers now pining for the fjords

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Security forces have killed four suicide bombers during their attempt to enter al-Dolab area in the city of Hit, Anbar Governorate, Altaghier TV reported on Tuesday.

Mohammed al-Mohammadi, the chairman of Hit District Council, said that security forces managed to kill four suicide bombers affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) terror group before entering al-Dolab area. The bombers were wearing explosive belts.

Al-Mohammadi stressed that security forces and tribes have complete control over the area.

IS still holds three towns in western Anbar close to the borders with Syria, in addition to a few areas in Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk.

On Sunday, dozens of IS militants were reported killed and injured in an airstrikes launched by the Iraqi army and U.S.-led coalition in western Anbar. Most of the members killed were from al-Tash and Ankour, west of Ramadi.

Backed by Hezbollah and Liwaa Fatemiyoun, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps liberated nearly 2km of territory west of al-Sukhnah, inflicting heavy damage on the Islamic State’s defenses before reaching the hills overlooking the city.

In order to apply more pressure on the Islamic State hard boyz in al-Sukhnah, another unit from the Syrian Arab Army’s 18th Tank Division pushed from the southern axis.

With the Tiger Forces quickly advancing south of al-Raqqa, the battle for al-Sukhnah could begin in the coming weeks, which spells trouble for the Islamic State as they find themselves surrounded from several flanks.

Damascus reconquest continues in the Ayn Tarma District
Syrian Army punches its way through key east Damascus suburb

[AlMasdar] Leading Republican Guard units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continue to reduce rebel defenses throughout the southern sector of the Ayn Tarma District in eastern Damascus.

Today the SAA made a new advance from two directions in the embattled district; whilst one Republican Guard task group liberated several new buildings blocks to the northwest of the recently captured slaughterhouse building, another SAA task group advanced via the al-Kheir Market axis and reached the outskirts of the Queen Mall.

The advance today came after heavy airstrikes by the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and shelling by SAA large-ordinance rocket artillery units throughout the target sector.

According to a military source exclusive to Al-Masdar News, the SAA has so far managed to kill 5 Islamist militants and injure another 10 in today’s operation.

Despite the ongoing fanatic resistance being offered by rebel forces, the momentum of the SAA’s advance throughout Ayn Tarma has begun to pickup with Republican Guard units now storming the actual residential area of the district after securing most of its outlaying farms and houses.

Syrian Army’s elite unit heads to east Damascus for offensive

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) elite 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division is once again being deployed to a new front in southern Syria after a short stint in the Dara’a Governorate.

Also known as the “Ghiath Forces,” the 42nd Brigade will be deployed to the east Damascus suburb of Jobar, where they will join the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard and the National Defense Forces (NDF).

According to an officer from the 42nd Brigade, their unit will be deployed to the Arfeh axis of Jobar, which is located in the western sector of the suburb.

The 42nd Brigade is arguably one of the most successful units in the Syrian Arab Army, as they have yet to lose any battle during this six year long conflict.

India revokes passport of popular Muslim preacher
[AA.TR] The External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday revoked the passport of popular Moslem preacher Zakir Naik, who is wanted by Indian authorities for alleged terrorism funding.

Naik is well known in various countries for his expertise in debating on Islamic issues. He has about 16 million followers on Facebook and has delivered close to 4,000 lectures on Islam in many countries.

His programs on Peace TV, which he founded in 2006, was very popular among Indian Moslems; the channel was banned by the government last year.

The National Investigation Agency had made a request a few days back to revoke Naik’s passport, an official statement said.

"The Regional Passport Office, Mumbai, has revoked the Indian passport of Dr. Zakir Abdul Karim Naik, resident of B-1005/1006 Jasmine Apartment, 65-B, Dockyard Road, Mazagaon, Mumbai, under the provisions of the Passport Act 1967," it said.

The 51-year-old had failed to respond to a show cause notice issued to him for a personal appearance by July 13 after which the passport office took action against him, it added.

After the terror attack in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka last year, the federal agency had filed a case against the preacher and his Mumbai-based nongovernmental organization, the Islamic Research Foundation.
The Daily Mail has a less benign view of the gentleman in question:

Ukrainian Separatists Announce New ‘state’
A little background: Zakharchenko is a consummate bullsh*t artist. My guess is after a weekend bender he and his buddies played a little game of "Wouldn't Be Weird if..."
[AlManar] Separatists fighting against Kiev announced on Tuesday the creation of a new “state” that they said would take the place of Ukraine and have its capital in their territory.

The proposed country would be founded after a referendum and called Malorossiya, a tsarist-era name meaning “Little Russia” that once described most of the area covering modern-day Ukraine.

A constitution presented by rebel leader Alexander Zakharchenko said representatives from the separatists’ self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk “People’s Republics” and other regions had agreed to “declare the establishment of a new state, which is the successor of Ukraine.”

The document — released by the separatists’ news agency — said rebel bastion Donetsk would become the capital, while Kiev would be reduced to the status of a “historical and cultural centre”.

Israeli police shoot Al-Aqsa Mosque imam after prayer
[AA.TR] The spiritual leader of the al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, was injured Tuesday by a plastic bullet after praying outside the gates of the famous site, according to Paleostinian medical personnel.

The imam has just finished leading the night prayer when Israeli police attempted to disperse worshippers by force, leaving many injured, some seriously, according to the Paleostine’s Red Islamic Thingy Society.

Sabri was taken to the Al Maqassid Hospital in eastern Jerusalem and his condition has not been disclosed.

"While our geography is facing tremendous pain, the incidents going on at al-Aqsa Mosque and its surroundings have been bringing any prudent man to worry greatly. I believe that they will not let al-Aqsa have the same fate as al-Khalil Mosque, cave of discretion, prudency, moderation, and peace patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph", he wrote in reference to the 1994 massacre at the Ibrabimi Msoque in Hebron where 30 Moslem worshippers were killed by a U.S.-born Jewish terrorist.

The shooting Tuesday occurred just hours after Rafaat al-Herbawi, 30, was killed during protests at the mosque as tensions rise across the West Bank after Israel installed metal detectors at the entrance to al-Aqsa following a shootout Friday left five people dead.

More than 300 Paleostinians have been killed in alleged attacks on Israelis or in festivities with Israeli forces since October 2015, according to Paleostinian figures.

Tunis busts fuel smuggling operation
Tunis, 18 July, 2017:

A major smuggling bust has been reported by Tunisian authorities in which 36 vehicles, including a Libyan fuel tanker were seized just over the border into Tunisia.

Security forces said they came under fire when they confronted the large smuggler convoy. Fire was returned but no details have been given of any casualties. The Tunisians detained 11 eleven of their own nationals but other smugglers reportedly fled back over the border.

It is unclear where the encounter took place. The 200-kilometre berm and ditch which now runs along part of the border with Libya has been sited around two kilometres into Tunisian territory. A foreign-trained border force patrols regularly and last year it was reported that German and American remote monitoring equipment was being installed.

Diyala Devastation Digest
Iraqi security forces rebel ISIS attack near Hareem Mountains

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Security troops foiled an attack by Islamic State militants against an oilfield in Hamreen mountains, an official said.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, Col. Khaled al-Qaisi, commander of oil police, said on Tuesday “IS launched an attack against Federal Police troops in charge of securing Ogail oilfield, located at Hamreen mountains.”

The militants, according to Qaisi, “fired several mortar missiles against military units, without casualties reported.”

“Troops were able to repel the attack,”Qaisi said adding that the situation is under control.

Last week, two tribal fighters were wounded as two bombs exploded consecutively on an agricultural road near Sherwin basin, east of Baqubah. Four members of one family were wounded in a bomb blast that occurred northeast of Diyala.

Attacks launched by Islamic State militants against security troops, the pro-government forces and civilians surged over the past few weeks in northeast of Diyala, which urge the Iraqi forces to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

[Toenhall] My Leftist friends (as well as many ardent #NeverTrumpers) constantly ask me if I’m not bothered by Donald Trump’s lack of decorum. They ask if I don’t think his tweets are "beneath the dignity of the office." Here’s my answer:

We Right-thinking people have tried dignity. There could not have been a man of more quiet dignity than George W. Bush as he suffered the outrageous lies and politically motivated hatreds that undermined his presidency. We tried statesmanship. Could there be another human being on this earth who so desperately prized "collegiality" as John McCain? We tried propriety ‐ has there been a nicer human being ever than Mitt Romney? And the results were always the same.

This is because, while we were playing by the rules of dignity, collegiality and propriety, the Left has been, for the past 60 years, engaged in a knife fight where the only rules are those of Saul Alinsky and the Chicago mob.

I don’t find anything "dignified," "collegial" or "proper" about Barack Obama’s lying about what went down on the streets of Ferguson in order to ramp up racial hatreds because racial hatreds serve the Democratic Party. I don’t see anything "dignified" in lying about the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi and imprisoning an innocent filmmaker to cover your tracks. I don’t see anything "statesman-like" in weaponizing the IRS to be used to destroy your political opponents and any dissent. Yes, Obama was "articulate" and "polished" but in no way was he in the least bit "dignified," "collegial" or "proper."
Continues.

Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
politicians have voted to oust the state’s cabinet ministers following a session in Garowe on Tuesday morning, July 18.

During Tuesdy’s session, 47 MPs voted for the no confidence motion against the cabinet, 9 absatined, while one politician voted in favor of the region’s government.

The cabinet was booted out for accusing poor performance and failing the security. It was not yet clear the basis of the move and Puntland president did not comment on the matter.

Since Yesterday, there has been closed-door meetings in the Garowe city between the government and the politicians who backing the motion and those against it.

Kenya Vows to `Bury’ Al shabaab Militants After Coastal Attacks
[SHABELLENEWS] Kenya vowed tough security measures after suspected al-Qaeda-linked militants stepped up attacks around the East African nation’s coast and northeast.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said security forces had intensified their hunt for al-Shabaab militants in Lamu’s Boni forest, according to an emailed statement from his office.

“Fire must be met with fire,” Kenyatta said. “We shall bury them.”

The militants have increased raids in Lamu, Garissa and Tana River counties during the past weeks. In the latest incident, the Ministry of Public Works Principal Secretary Maryam El Maawy was wounded in a July 13 attack.

“We have to deal with these terror-mongers,” Kenyatta said. “I have no apologies to make in taking the tough measures we are taking.”

The government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the three regions this month after suspected militants beheaded nine people.

Al-Shabaab, which is trying to impose its version of Islamic law in Somalia, has killed hundreds of civilians in Kenya, including at least 67 people in a 2013 attack on a shopping mall in the capital.

Philippine leader to expedite bill for self-rule in Muslim region
[DAWN] Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte vowed on Monday to fast-track new legislation for autonomy in the country’s most volatile region, advancing a protracted process to end decades of rebellion and thwart rising Islamist militancy.

The Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) submitted to Duterte on Monday is the culmination of a rocky 20-year grinding of the peace processor between the government of the predominantly Christian Philippines and the Moslem separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

It aims to turn predominantly Moslem parts of the southern island of Mindanao into an autonomous region with its own executive, legislature and fiscal powers.

"May I say to you my brothers ... I will support and hasten this instrument as it goes to the legislature," Duterte said in a ceremony for the handover of the bill, drawing loud applause.

"There will be no objections of the provisions of all that is consistent with the constitution and aspirations of the Moro people." Passage of the bill would be a major achievement for Duterte, who was a mayor in a Mindanao city for 22 years and has made peace deals with separatists and Marxist rebels a priority for his year-old government.

Kenyan police foil Al-Shabaab attack in Lamu

early Tuesday, hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered an all-out war against Death Eaters in the restive region.

A senior police officer in Lamu confirmed the attempted attack, saying about 30 armed Death Eaters were on a mission to attack Mokowe GSU camp but sneaked out after noticing the presence of security officers.

"The murderous Moslems who were heavily armed approached the police camp in two groups at around 1 a.m. but we overpowered them and (they) fled into the Boni forest," the police officer who did not want to be identified said by telephone.

Witnesses said the bandidos bad boys retreated to the vast Boni forest which they have been using as their hideout to launch attacks on the Lamu villagers.

Police operating in the area said they were on alert and there are fears of more attacks in the area from the gang.

"They were sighted near the camp with an intention to attack but retreated to the forest. There was no casualty," said an official in the area. Mokowe is about 35 kilometres from Milihoi where five people were killed last week.

Pakistan threatens to choke Indian supply lines near LoC
[DAWN] In the sternest warning as yet, Pakistain on Monday signalled that it could consider choking India’s supply lines near the Line of Control (LoC) if the latter did not ’rein in’ its troops committing ceasefire violations, as six more civilians, four women among them, were maimed in Azad Jammu and Kashmire in "unprovoked and indiscriminate" shelling by Indian soldiers.

The threat was conveyed during a conversation between the directors general of military operations (DGMOs) of Pakistain and India over the telephone hotline. The conversation was held in the aftermath of targeting of a Pakistain Army’s vehicle along the Neelum River on LoC at Athmuqam. The vehicle fell into the Neelum River. Four soldiers drowned after the attack.

The Inter-Services Public Relations said it was a "weekly hotline contact", which usually happens every Tuesday between officers of operations directorates of the two countries. The Indian Army in its statement said the conversation had been requested by the Pak side for discussing the Athmuqam incident.

Last such conversation between the DGMOs took place almost six weeks ago when the Pak side sought a contact for protesting over killing of civilians on its side.

Indian firing leaves 2 dead, at least 13 wounded in Azad Kashmir
[DAWN] Unrelenting Indian shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) left two civilians dead and at least 13 others maimed in two different sectors of Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK) on Tuesday, officials said, fearing that the fresh wave of Indian aggression could cause more physical and material losses.

The casualties occurred in the Samahni sector of Bhimber district and the Nakyal sector of Kotli district amid "unprovoked and intense" shelling by the Indian troops, they said.

The shelling in Samahni sector started at about 1pm, with Indian troops targeting civilian populations with both small and big weapons in almost all villages along the dividing line, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chaudhry Guftar Hussain.

Hussain said that two civilians had so far bit the dust while another seven were maimed.

He identified the dear departed as Arsalan, 9, and Yasira Bibi, 42, of Tandar and Gorah villages, respectively.

Those injured included Arsalan’s father, Munsifdad, of Tandar; Iqra Shamrez, 15, and Aiza Azam, 12, of Chahi village; Ghulam Hussain, 60, and his son Adnan, 16, of Gahi Baroh village; Mohammad Ibrahim, 75, of Sona village; Mohammad Riaz, 50, of Ghotan Tandar; Atif Razak, 35, of Danna Kathyala and Waqar, 28, (a resident of Narowal who used to work with Atif Razak).

Panamagate case: We have been waiting for PM's money trail since day one, SC tells Sharif's lawyer
[DAWN] Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
's senior counsel Khawaja Harris on Tuesday resumed his arguments in the Panamagate case before a three-member Supreme Court bench, objecting to the findings of the joint investigation team's (JIT) report, which he called "unreliable" and "misleading".

The bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, had resumed the Panamagate case on Monday, nearly three months after ordering the formation of a JIT to investigate the allegations of money laundering against the Sharif family.

During the lawyer's arguments, Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that the PM, despite being given the opportunity, did not "give us anything".

"He [Nawaz Sharif] was asked about his speech, but he did not answer [...] when he was asked about the London flats, he said that he did not know," said the judge.

"Don't accept, don't reveal -- that seems to be the thinking," Justice Ahsan remarked.

Harris, however, clarified to the court that the documents submitted on behalf of the Sharif family on Monday were based on legal objections. "The JIT’s opinion does not have a legal holding," he insisted.

Justice Ejaz Afzal replied that the judges will not look at the JIT’s opinion, but instead take into consideration the contents of the report.

"After reviewing the report and looking over the evidence, we will decide whether the case should be transferred to the National Accountability Bureau or if the SC will make a decision regarding the disqualification of the PM," Justice Ahsan said.

Afghan officials told news agencies on Tuesday that a private jet flying to the city of Mazar-e-Sharif was ordered to fly to Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, for checks late on Monday following indications that Dostum, 63, was trying to return to the country.

The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Dostum's plane diverted to Turkmenistan.

Dostum, a powerful ethnic Uzbek leader and former general, flew to Turkey in May after he was accused of ordering the detention and torture of a political rival.

Abdulla Yameen's nephew arrested amid challenge to rule
[Al Jazeera] Maldives President Abdulla Yameen's nephew has been locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
amid renewed political unrest in the Indian Ocean nation after members of the president's family turned against him, criticising authoritarian reversals under his rule.

Faris Maumoon was arrested on Tuesday in the capital Male on charges of bribery, according to court documents.

A politician who defected to the opposition, Faris has been leading an effort to unseat Yameen's ally, speaker of parliament Abdulla Maseeh, who has been accused of ignoring allegations of corruption, mismanagement and rights abuses.

"The charges against Faris are clearly false," said Eva Abdulla, an opposition politician.

"Coming just four days before the vote to impeach the speaker, it marks the beginning of a campaign to reduce opposition votes by arresting and jailing politicians."

Yameen won a 2013 presidential election and has since been accused of reversing much of the country's democratic gains and corruption.

Faris is the son of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who was the Maldives president for 30 years.

The brothers, Gayoom and Yameen, fell apart after an acrimonious power struggle within the ruling party last year.

Gayoom called his son's arrest "a grave injustice" in a Twitter post and said: "All dictatorships are doomed to fail. That is the lesson of history."

Gayoom, who himself ruled with an iron fist, has joined forces with Mohammed Nasheed, whom he repeatedly placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
but who went on to become the country's first democratically elected president, in a campaign to undermine Yameen in the run-up to elections next year.

For his part, Nasheed, in a Twitter post, said Yameen was "highlighting his desperation by going after his own nephew".

A front man for Yameen declined to comment immediately.

China looks to host peace conference with Israelis, Palestinians
Wearing big boy pants, wants to play big boy games.
[IsraelTimes] China will host a symposium between the Paleostinians and Israelis later this year, an official says, as president Xi Jinping vows to "ceaselessly" contribute towards peace in the region.

Despite depending on the volatile Middle East for oil supplies, Beijing has long taken a backseat in Middle East disputes.

But it has stepped up its diplomatic engagement in the region in the past year, including offering to host talks on the Syrian conflict.

In a meeting with his Paleostinian counterpart the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

on Tuesday, Xi reaffirms China’s support for a two-state solution along the 1967 border and with East Jerusalem as its capital.

During closed door talks, Xi says China will set up a trilateral dialogue mechanism with the Paleostinian Authority and Israel, and later this year will host a peace symposium to help resolve the dispute, vice minister of foreign affairs Zhang Ming tells news hounds.

IDF raids home of car-rammer, question family members

[IsraelTimes] IDF forces raid the Hebron-area home of the Paleostinian man who carried out the car-ramming attack earlier today at Beit Einoun.

The man’s family members are questioned by security officials.

The driver was shot and killed by soldiers after hitting three of them, all of whom were lightly hurt.

Two more soldiers taken to hospital after Hebron car-ramming

[IsraelTimes] Another two soldiers are brought to a Jerusalem hospital for treatment after a Paleostinian man rammed his car into a group of servicemen near the village of Beit Einun, north of Hebron, earlier today.

Two soldiers were taken to the capital’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment immediately after the attack, while two others hit by the car were initially only treated on the scene.

According to a military spokesperson, over time army medical officials realized the other two soldiers required more advanced care.

All four soldiers were lightly maimed in the attack. The first soldiers who were brought to Shaare Zedek have already been released, a hospital spokesperson says.

Clashes break out in Old City as Temple Mount tensions heat up
[IsraelTimes] Dozens injured in third straight night of fighting; police say many Moslem worshipers continue entering the holy site despite Waqf boycott call

Clashes broke out between Moslem worshipers and police in the Old City of Jerusalem for the third night in a row on Tuesday, in response to Israel placing metal detectors at entrances to the Temple Mount compound following a terror attack in the area.

According to police, after evening prayers at a gate outside the Temple Mount, a group of Moslem worshipers "started throwing rocks and bottles at the officers" who were stationed in the Old City.

In response, the officers used riot dispersal equipment -- notably rubber bullets and stun grenades -- to break up the festivities, police said.

In videos from the scene, people can be seen running away as stun grenades echo across the Old City’s narrow alleyways.

The Red Islamic Thingy said 34 people were maimed, including 14 people needing hospitalization. One person had a serious chest injury, a spokesperson said.

Police said two officers were lightly injured in the fighting.

Police said the area had calmed after the festivities.

"The area’s quiet," a police spokesperson said.

Similar festivities broke out at the site on Sunday and Monday nights as well, as Moslem worshipers held protest prayers against the metal detectors outside the Temple Mount gates.

On Tuesday evening, politicians from the Joint (Arab) List visited the Lions Gate outside the Temple Mount compound, also calling for removal of the detectors.

"We who seek peace and not war call on [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu to immediately cancel the decision [to install the detectors] and return the situation to what it was before, to allow freedom of worship without any limits," said MKs Ahmad Tibi and Osama Sa’adi in a statement.

To protest the new security measures, Waqf officials have staged protests in the Old City, gathering large groups of men to pray just outside the Temple Mount and encouraging others to avoid entering the flashpoint holy site.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
these protests, which begin peacefully, often develop into minor festivities between the worshipers and police.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, the police said that while many Moslem worshipers had decided to protest the metal detectors, others have accepted them and visited the Temple Mount.

The assertion came as members the Waqf trust, which administers the holy site, persisted in their calls for Moslems not to enter through the metal detectors installed Sunday.

The police statement added that visits from Jews and tourists also continued Tuesday, though not without incident. Security forces removed two Jewish visitors from the compound, detaining them for further questioning.

"The Israel Police continues to act to enable a return to a safe routine in the Temple Mount area, its entrances and the wider area," the statement said.

Non-Moslems are allowed to visit the site but are prohibited from praying there.

The Paleostinian Fatah movement has called for a "Day of Rage" on Wednesday to protest the new security measures.
Leading from behind, as usual.

Syrian rebels killed in Kurdish clashes
[Al Jazeera] More than a dozen Syrian rebel fighters have been killed in hit-and-run festivities in a Kurdish-controlled area of northeastern Syria near the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, a monitoring group has said.

The Ottoman Turkish-backed fighters were locked in a second day of fighting on Tuesday with units from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed Syrian coalition of Kurdish and Arab groups, around the village of Ain Daqna.

"Since Monday, 15 fighters from Syrian rebel factions were killed in the festivities and four SDF fighters were maimed, including one at death's door," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said on Tuesday.

Ain Daqna, in Aleppo province, has been held by the US-backed SDF since February.

It lies in a contested sliver of land between the alliance and Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels.

In a statement released on Monday, rebels fighting under the banner of "Ahl al-Diyar" said they attacked Ain Daqna because they see the SDF as "occupiers".

"We promise our people more flash attacks ... We will make them [SDF] regret occupying this land and displacing thousands," the statement said.

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS, also known as ISIS) as well as the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which make up the bulk of the SDF.

Turkey considers the YPG a terrorist group.

Military analyst and retired Jordanian Air Force general Mamoun Abu Nowar said the aim of the Ottoman Turkish-backed fighters in this particular operation is to isolate the area around the northern city of Afrin and to expand its buffer zone to 5,000sq km.

"Turkey would also like to get Idlib through the process of de-escalation zones," he told Al Jazeera, from London.

4 die in suicide attack on Kurdish checkpoint in northern Syria

The Director of the observatory, Mr. Ramy Abdulrahman said that the attack took place near Tal Tamr Village, located 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, Meanwhile, Syrian state TV reported that four persons were killed in a car bomb attack in the area, but said it had taken place in the nearby town of Ras al-Ayn.
An Nahar adds:
At least two of the dead were Asayesh members, the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said, while the identities of the other two were not yet confirmed.

2 wimmin snitches found dead in Mosul

Tal Afar (IraqiNews) Two women who had acted as informants for the Islamic State in Nineveh province were found dead late Monday west of Mosul, a local source was quoted saying.

The pair was found dead in an abandoned house in the town of Tal Afar, one of the few remaining IS enclaves in Iraq, the source told Almaalomah website.

According to the source, the two women, who worked with the Islamic State’s “security squad”, had been involved in several kidnappings of women and children, besides reporting on the group’s opponents, which led many to execution or detention.

Their dead bodies bore signs of gunshots in the heads and chests, said the source.

IS has held Tal Afar since 2014, when it took over a third of Iraq to establish a so-called “Caliphate”. As Iraqi forces went on a military campaign to retake IS-held regions in Nineveh in October 2016, the Islamic State in Tal Afar was reportedly ravaged with divisions within and mysterious assassinations of several members.

5 found dead in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Five bodies of victims, slain by Islamic State militants, were found northwest of Kirkuk province, head of Dibs district said.

In remarks on Tuesday, Abdullah Nour Eddin said one of the victims was the mayor of the village, while the rest were relatives.

The militants, according to Nour Eddin, were affiliated to Islamic State, who planted a bomb there.

IS still holds three towns in western Anbar close to the borders with Syria, in addition to a few areas in Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk. The Iraqi government is expected to aim at those strongholds once the Mosul battle is concluded.

The group executed dozens of civilians for either attempting to flee the town or for collaboration with security forces, forcing thousands to flee toward refugee camps or neighboring provinces.

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State fighters are executing their own families fearing that they could tip police off about them, a government source was quoted saying on Tuesday.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that IS began executing the families of its fighters in the town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul. The move move was based on a “fatwa” (a religious edict) by the group’s legislature.

“The fatwa was made fearing that those families could report them (the fighters) and turn them in as operations to recapture the region loom,” the source said.

According to the source, security forces have prepared 10.000 fighters with enhanced military capabilities to retake Tal Afar and regain full control over Nineveh.

The Iraqi government declared victory over the Islamic State in Mosul last week after more than eight months of fighting. The Iraqi command said Tal Afar and a few surrounding areas were the only ones remaining under IS control. Islamic State maintains a few other havens outside Nineveh, which are expected to be the next targets of Iraqi forces to end the group’s self-proclaimed “Caliphate” declared from Mosul in 2014.

Authorities in Mosul have recently began measures to isolate IS fighters families from refugees displaced by the war against the group. Plans were set to shelter those families at separate camps for rehabilitation.

5 dead kidz found in rubble in Mosul
"You don't lead 'em so much..."
Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi relief workers recovered Tuesday the dead bodies of five children who were buried under the rubble of destroyed homes in western Mosul’s Old City.

A security source told Almaalomah that the children’s ages ranged from two to seven.

The corpses were delivered to forensic authorities preparing to hand them over to their relatives.

Hundreds of civilians died during battles between Islamic State militants and Iraqi, U.S.-backed forces which fought to retake the city from militants since October and until the declaration of victory earlier this month.

While the U.S.-led coalition had admitted causing civilian casualties in some occasions, Iraqi forces repeatedly denied involvement in botched strikes, with commanders reiterating the heeded civilians’ safety. Islamic State militants had also targeted and executed civilians who fled the battle fields.

The war in Mosul has so far displaced more than 900.000 people, and United Nations agencies have regularly shed light on difficult conditions endured by children trapped in the conflict, labeling it as one of the biggest humanitarian crises.

The Iraqi government and military commanders said recently they were preparing to invade the remaining IS holdouts in Nineveh.

Two largest jihadist factions slaughter one another in Idlib after truce falls apart
[AlMasdar] Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS/Al-Qaeda) are once again at each other’s throats after a ceasefire between the previously allied factions proved short-lived.

Some 48 hours after signing a truce covering all of Idlib province, the Ahrar al-Sham leadership accused HTS of failing to comply to the agreement. This disagreement soon resulted in festivities between the two jihadist factions in several rural areas on Tuesday.

Thus, HTS hard boyz stormed the main Ahrar al-Sham checkpoint near Hazareen after which al-Qaeda’s Syrian franchise branch captured the town itself and tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
a number of Ahrar al-Sham fighters.

On the other hand, Ahrar al-Sham overwhelmed HTS checkpoints in the town of Ableen, resulting in the death of at least one al-Qaeda fighter with about a dozen more captured.

With the provincial ceasefire shattered, HTS prepared of convoy of some 250 Lions of Islam and sent the vehicles towards the Jabal al-Zawiyah area in the southern Idlib countryside which is known to be largely under Ahrar al-Sham control. A major confrontation is effectively brewing.

Consequently, all preparations for large-scale offensives against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) have been postponed due to rivalry and tensions between HTS, Ahrar al-Sham, Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) groups and ISIS sleeper cells.

‘Baghdadi almost certainly alive’
[DAWN] A top Kurdish counter-terrorism official said on Monday he was 99 per cent sure that IS leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
was alive and located in south of the Syrian city of Raqqa, despite reports that he had been killed.

"Baghdadi is definitely alive. He is not dead. We have information that he is alive. We believe 99 per cent he is alive," Lahur Talabany told Rooters in an interview. "Don’t forget his roots go back to Al Qaeda days in Iraq. He was hiding from security services. He knows what he is doing."

"He is not an easy figure. He has years of experience in hiding and getting away from the security services," Talabany said. "The territory they control right now, still to this day, is very tough territory. It is still not the end of the game for ISIS. Even though they have lost almost all of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and they are getting ready to lose Raqqa as well."

Talabany said IS was now shifting tactics despite low morale and it would take three or four years to eliminate the group as it takes to the mountains and deserts to stage hit and run attacks and unleash jacket wallahs.

"They are getting ready for a different fight I think. We have a lot tougher days ahead of us than people think. "Al Qaeda on steroids," said Talabany. "We saw why they were smarter. Al Qaeda never controlled any territory. They will be smarter."

Numerous reports suggesting that Baghdadi had been killed have raised questions about who might replace him as head of a diverse group comprised of Iraqis and other Arabs as well as hardcore imported muscle.

Iraqi intelligence officers who served under Saddam Hussein have been described as the military strategists instrumental in creating an IS reign of terror.

Will climate change turn the Sahel green?
[DW] Climate change can be a good thing. At least for the arid Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
in Africa, where rainfall has been increasing as the world warms up. But to avoid dire negative consequences, precautions must be taken now.

The Sahel region could go from one of the driest areas in the world to a very wet one in a couple of decades. That is one conclusion reached by a research paper just published by the Potsdam Institute for Climate research (Potsdam-Institut fur Klimafolgenforschung). "What is new is the observation that there are some scenarios where you get not just a little more rain, but substantially more rain, and it may happen quite suddenly," Jacob Schewe, co-author of the new study, told DW.

This does not come as a surprise to Emmanuel Oladipo, professor of climatology at the University of Lagos, in Nigeria, who emphasized the high degree of volatility of the climate in the region."What appears to be happening now is that the system is tilting to what happened in the sixties. We are getting more rainfall than what we used to get." Data for the last hundred years, compiled by theJoint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean, in Washington, USA, show unusually high rainfall from 1950 to 1970. This was followed by years of drought until 1990. Rainfall then returned to almost the former average, although there is now a high variability annually. Nevertheless, experts like Schewe and Oladipo agree that in the last years, rain intensity has increased.

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A civil defence officer was killed and three of his assistants were wounded as an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded while searching for survivors under rubble in the Old City of Mosul, the Iraqi police said on Tuesday.

During his search for survivors and bodies under rubble in Mosul’s Old City, Lieutenant Qusay Saad, an elite officer, died when an IED blasted, killing three of his assistants, UAE’s news website, 24, reported.

On July 10, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, declared victory in the city of Mosul, ending an eight-month campaign backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, which has displaced more than 900.000 civilians.

The victory in Mosul also means an effective collapse of the Islamic State’s self-styled “caliphate” declared from Mosul’s Old City by the group’s supreme leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Hundreds of civilians died in security, coalition and IS strikes in Mosul since opreations launched in October.

Iraqi security forces arrest five wimmin ISIS fighters
No sauerkraut or weisswurst for you, fraulein
Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Security forces have arrested female foreign Islamic State (IS) fighters, including five Germans, in the city of Mosul, an officer from the counter-terrorism forces revealed on Tuesday, according to Germany’s Die Welt newspaper.

The officer said that the female fighters were arrested last Thursday in the Old City of Mosul, noting that they were hiding in in a tunnel built by the IS and were wearing suicide vests.

The arrested female fighters had come from Germany, Russia, Turkey, Canada, Libya, the Caucasus and Syria, according to the report.

The newspaper claimed that a 16-year-old student, Linda W, from the German federal state of Saxony was among the five German women. Linda, who had converted to Islam, joined IS in the summer of 2016 after travelling from Frankfurt to Syria through Istanbul.

In the same context, a Yazidi member of the Council of Representatives of Iraq, Vian Dakhil, confirmed the identity of the German teenager after posting a photo of her on twitter, claiming that Linda was an IS sniper.

More than 930 Islamists from Germany had traveled to Syria and Iraq over the past years, according to the Saxony’s State Criminal Police Office (LKA).

4 Iraqi militia die in fighting west of Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Four al-Hashd al-Shaabi (the Popular Mobilization Forces) fighters were killed in clashes with Islamic State militants near Tal Afar west of Mosul, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported on Tuesday.

Army Captain Jabbar Anad al-Khafaf told Anadolu that Dozens of IS elements attacked a position of al-Hashd al-Shaabi Ali Diwah Li village near Tal Afar.

“Clashes continued for three hours before the arrival of military reinforcements by the Iraqi army and al-Hashd al-Shaabi troops, which pushed IS militants to withdraw,” al-Khafa said. “Clashes left four dead and one injured”.

No details were reported about IS losses in the fighting.

IS has recently resorted to snap attacks against the Iraqi army and pro-government forces deployed in the desert areas surrounding Mosul.

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, an alliance of more than 60 mostly Shia militias, has been actively engaged in the government’s campaign against the Islamic State that ran since mid-October, and contributed to the campaign by regaining control over IS holdouts near the Syrian borders.

1 dies in shooting in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) A civilian was killed by a random bullet that was fired during clashes between Islamic State militants and Iraqi troops in Mosul city.

Speaking to Shafaq News, an informed security source said, Tuesday, that a civilian was killed by a random bullet in al-Hayy al-Zera’ie, which is near to the eastern bank of Tigris River.

The bullet, according to the source, was likely to be shot during the battles in the Old City, which overlooks the western bank of the river.

Earlier on Tuesday, a civil defence officer was killed and three of his assistants were wounded in a bomb blast that occurred while searching for survivors under rubble in the Old City.

Australia Creates Counter-Terror Super Ministry
anon1 must be horrified.
[AnNahar] Australia has created a super ministry combining its security agencies including the domestic spy service, border force and national police, the country's prime minister said Tuesday, calling the "historic change" necessary to tackle terrorism.

The new Home Affairs portfolio -- which uses Britannia's Home Office as a template -- will be run by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton in a major shake-up of national security arrangements.

"I am announcing the most significant reform of Australia's national intelligence and domestic security arrangements and their oversight in more than 40 years," Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said in Canberra.

"We are taking the best elements of our intelligence and national security community and making them better. As Lions of Islam evolve their methods, we have to evolve our responses."

An office of national intelligence would be set up to help co-ordination between the agencies, with the shake-up concentrating more power in the hands of Dutton, who has been hailed by conservatives for halting the arrival of asylum-seeker boats from Asia.

Canberra lifted the terror threat alert level in September 2014 and introduced new national security laws amid concerns of attacks by individuals inspired by organizations such as Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Counter-terrorism police have also made a string of arrests since late 2014 across the nation and say they have prevented 12 terror attacks on home soil in the past few years.

But several attacks have taken place, including a cafe siege in 2014 where two hostages were killed and the murder of a Sydney police employee in 2015 by a 15-year-old boy.

Egyptian police kill two Hasm militants in New Cairo shootout: Ministry
[AlAjram] Egyptian police have killed two members of the Hasm Death Eater group in a shootout near New Cairo, a statement by the interior ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry says the two suspects, identified as Ahmed El-Bahnasawy and Emad El-Far, shot at police as they attempted to apprehend them.

The ministry says the men were suspected of involvement in two deadly attacks in May against security forces, including a drive-by shooting in Cairo's Nasr City that killed three coppers and injured five others. The ministry also linked the suspects to a June bombing that killed a Central Security officer on Cairo's Autostrad Road, as well as the 2016 attempted liquidation of the Nasr City Criminal Court head judge Ahmed Abdel-Fotouh. The two men were previously sentenced in several terrorism-related cases, with sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.

Hasm has grabbed credit for a number of attacks against Egyptian security personnel in recent months, mostly targeting police checkpoints.

Egyptian security forces have tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
and killed dozens of suspected Hasm members in the past few months.

Egyptian officials have said that that the group is linked to the banned Moslem Brüderbund group.
An Nahar adds:
Authorities learned that some of the group's leaders were "about to move their equipment and weapons used in terrorist operations," the ministry said. They were planning to relocate to the hideout in a newly constructed area of New Cairo, outside the city's main ring road, said the ministry.

Security forces acting on this information set up checkpoints on roads going to the area, it said in a statement.

A suspect car approached one of them before "its passengers opened fire" on police and the officers shot back, killing the two murderous Moslems. The two were identified as students aged 24 and 21 who were "among the most prominent leaders in the Hasam terrorist group," the ministry said.

In the vehicle police found seven automatic weapons, two other firearms, a large amount of ammunition, masks and radio communications equipment.

The ministry did not say when the shootout took place, only disclosing that the group had been planning to move locations on Tuesday.

On Twitter, the group said on Monday it has killed 27 people from "the military occupation militias," in reference to Egypt's security forces, since its launch a year ago.
And from Ynet:
An Interior Ministry statement said security forces conducted a raid on a building under construction in Arish, a city in North Sinai, where bully boyz had set up a base of operations.

An ensuing firefight led to the death of one of the group's leaders, Ahmed Hassan Ahmed al-Nashu, who is known as Ghandur al-Masri, and the escape of another, the statement said.

... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons records.

He is set to be released from the re-entry management office on Aug. 16.

Once second in line to the presidency, Hastert, 75, is one of the highest-ranking U.S. politicians to ever go to prison.

He had been serving a 15-month sentence in a banking violations case that revealed accusations that he had sexually abused teenage boys while coaching wrestling at Yorkville High School in suburban Chicago from 1965 to 1981. U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin called Hastert "a serial child molester" during his sentencing.

Hastert was not charged with child abuse because of statutes of limitation.

Hastert pleaded guilty to violating federal banking laws in his efforts to pay $3.5 million to keep the accusations secret.

Syrian army's Hama happenings
Syrian security forces prevent triple-bombing terrorist attack in Hama

[AlMasdar] Yesterday, Syrian security forces operating in the city of Hama prevented a triple-bombing terrorist attack when they arrested three men carrying bags with explosive belts inside. The successful arrest of the would-be attackers was the result of long observation and intelligence gathering by government spies.

According to sources, Syrian authorities managed to arrest the the three would-be suicide bombers when they were traveling on foot near al-Arba’een roundabout in Hama city yesterday evening. The three terrorists had traveled from the countryside around Hama and come into the city in order to carry out their attack.

No civilians or security authorities were killed or injured during the arrest of the terrorists.

One source clarified that the three terrorists were carrying belt explosives ready to detonate but were not wearing them at the time they were arrested. The attacks had been planned by the terrorists for this morning.

Al-Masdar News could not gather any information on what areas the terrorists planned to attack.

Elite Syrian Army unit prepares to encircle ISIS in east Hama

[AlMasdar] The ISIS Hunters detachment, an elite formation within the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) 5th Assault Corps, is preparing an operation to encircle ISIS forces in the region of eastern Hama.

According to sources, the ISIS Hunters are in the final stages of preparation for an offensive action to strike directly north of the al-Sha’er gas complex in the direction of the Ethriyah to Resafa highway. If successful, the operation will serve to totally isolate the large ISIS bastion in eastern Hama from the rest of land the terrorist group occupies in Syria.

Nonetheless, even at face value the task appears daunting, since the ISIS Hunters will have to attack through seventy kilometers of mostly mountainous terrain to reach their objective.

With this being said, it might be possible that the formation will be assisted by some other pro-government outfit attacking from the north.

The ISIS Hunters have so far played a crucial role in reclaiming and protecting Syria’s gas and oil infrastructures in eastern Homs. Although not publicized, the formation has – over the last several months – absorbed the brunt of some harsh ISIS counter-attacks in central Homs which were aimed at seizing the Faraqlas junction and the T-4 Airbase from pro-government forces.

Syrian Army reopens several towns in northern Hama

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) announced on Tuesday that several towns in the northern countryside of Hama were now open to the public.

This announcement comes after the Syrian Arab Army declared the towns of Souran, Taybat Al-Imam, Ma’ardes, Kawkab, and Ma’an clear of mines and IEDs.

Following this announcement, the Syrian government issued a statement calling on residents of the aforementioned towns to return to their homes in northern Hama.

With the implementation of de-escalation zones in the Idlib Governorate, the battle for northern Hama has been mostly dead, with the occasional shelling by all parties present in the area.

Feds to Fund Texas Border Security Efforts
[BREITBART] The Trump Administration is providing funding for the Texas National Guard’s efforts to assist in securing the state’s border with Mexico. This follows more than three years of the Obama Administration’s refusal to help with any funding for Texas’ border security operations.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the State would receive funding from the federal government to help support its efforts in Operation Secure Texas. Members of the Texas National Guard currently deployed to the Texas/Mexico Border will begin to transition to federal orders later this month, according to a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas from Governor Abbott’s office.

"The taxpayers of Texas have funded border security, a federal responsibility, for far too long," Abbott said in a written statement. "I am grateful that the federal government and Congressional appropriators are stepping up and dedicating additional resources to provide for the safety and security of all Texans. The State of Texas also extends it gratitude to the men and women of the Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety for their continued commitment to securing our border."

Five fast facts about Somali policeman in MN who killed Australian yoga instructor
[Heavy.com] Mohamed Noor, the Minneapolis police officer who is accused of shooting and killing Justine Damond, an Australian yoga teacher and spiritual healer, was the first Somali-American officer in his precinct.

A year ago, the arrival of Noor on the Minnesota police force was celebrated by the mayor and Somali community he hails from. There is a pending federal complaint against him, though, by a former social worker from Minneapolis who says Noor and other officers violated her constitutional rights in March by ordering her detention at a hospital ...

"Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver's side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver's side door, sources confirmed. No weapon was found at the scene," the Star Tribune reported.
I wasn't sure how to categorize this.

#14  From the USA Today article on the subject, a small fact that might explain what happened:

The attorney for a Minneapolis police officer whose partner fired a shot through the patrol car window that killed an Australian woman, said Wednesday that it was reasonable for the officers to have feared that they might be targets of an ambush.

Investigators say Officer Matthew Harrity, 25, who has been with the police department for a year, was driving the squad car and his partner, Officer Mohamed Noor, 31, a two-year veteran of the force who fired the fatal shot, was seated on the passenger side.

Harrity’s attorney Fred Bruno told the Star Tribune “it’s certainly reasonable” to assume any officer would be concerned about an ambush. He referenced the recent death of a New York City officer killed in her squad car.

Investigators say the officers were driving with all squad lights off through the alley behind Damond's home when the shooting occurred.

Inexperienced officers whose nerves were screwed to a fever pitch by BLM stories -- that could explain the overreaction to hearing a noise. I'd read that before he refused to talk to investigators, Officer Noor said he had not accidentally discharged his gun. I can't find the link, though -- sorry.

#17  @Sgt. Mom We may never know. /sarc

However, to catch her in the abdomen while firing though the open window from a low angle indicates she was certainly jumping up and down pretty energetically about something.

Or, Noor was idly playing with his gun when someone knocked over a trashcan and startled him. The unexpected discharge through the door sent him into a spasm of fright, causing several more unexpected discharges.

Or something. But he's a great guy, best Somali officer the force has known.

Four Abu Sayyaf rebels rounded up in Basilan
[SunStar] The police have arrested four Abu Sayyaf rebels, including a militiaman, involved in the hijacking of a Vietnamese bulk carrier last year off Basilan province. Basilan police director Nickson Muksan said the militant suspects were arrested Monday afternoon in the villae of Ulame, Lamitan City.

Muksan said the suspects were identified as Taha Upao, Bryan Upao, Ibrahim Akhmad, and Ibno Akhmad, a member of the government militia force. He said an investigation showed the suspects were involved in the hijacking of a Vietnamese bulk carrier on November 11, 2016.

Aboard a speed boat, the Abu Sayyaf rebels seized six people during the hijacking as the vessel was passing near Sibago Island, Mohammad Ajul town. Three of the six have remained in captivity since the Abu Sayyaf beheaded two of the Vietnamese crew on July 5, while another escaped on June 16.

Saudi police question woman who wore miniskirt in video
[DAWN] Saudi police said on Tuesday they were questioning a woman who appeared in an online video in a miniskirt and crop top walking through a historic site in the ultraconservative kingdom.

A series of videos initially posted over the weekend to the Snapchat account of “Model Khulood”, shows a young woman in a high-waisted miniskirt walking through a fort in Ushaiqer, outside the capital Riyadh, playing with sand in the dunes and turning towards the camera for a close-up, her long hair uncovered. The videos have since been uploaded to YouTube and tweeted by different users.

Saudi media, including the main dailies Sabq and Okaz, on Tuesday, quoted a spokesman for police in Riyadh as saying the woman was being questioned and had confessed to visiting the site with her male guardian.

Saudi Arabia's guardianship system mandates accompaniment by or written permission from a male relative — usually a father, husband or brother — for women to study, work or travel.

The woman denied that she had uploaded the clips and that the Snapchat account was hers, the spokesman said.

The case has now been referred to the public prosecutor's office, which will decide whether to prosecute the woman.

The local government of Riyadh had issued a memo saying authorities were searching for the woman who had been “walking around... in indecent clothing”.

The snaps have sparked heated debate, with social media users in the region and beyond weighing in on questions of gender and rights in the kingdom, where women are required to wear long black abaya robes and cover their hair in public.
Deutsche Welle has the video here.
Update from Ynet at 4:15 p.m. EDT:
Saudi Arabia says a woman detained after wearing a miniskirt in a video that went viral has been released without charge.

A statement released by the Center for International Communication said Wednesday that police released the woman, who was not named. It says she was released Tuesday evening after a few hours of questioning. The statement said the video was published without her knowledge.

Murad says no justification for PM to stay in power after JIT report
[DAWN] Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

on Monday to quit his office as soon as possible since a three-judge Supreme Court bench began hearing the Panama Papers case in the light of a damning report prepared by a joint investigation team formed to probe money laundering allegations against the PM and his children.

The CM told news hounds here that the ’noose’ around the PM’s neck was being tightened, as two SC judges had already declared him guilty of being involved in the Panama Papers case and after the JIT report he had no justification to remain in power.

The CM’s plane made an inaugural landing at the under-construction Islamkot airport. He drove straight to Malani House in Mithi where he told the media that he had already directed the authorities concerned to complete the remaining part of the airport so that foreign engineers, especially those from China, engaged in mining and power production could easily travel.

Two Iranians Charged in US over Hacking Defense Materials
[AnNahar] Two Iranians were indicted Monday in the United States with hacking a defense contractor and stealing sensitive software used to design bullets and warheads, according to the Justice Department.

According to the newly unsealed indictment businessman Mohammed Saeed Ajily, 35, recruited Mohammed Reza Rezakhah, 39, to break into companies' computers to steal their software for resale to Iranian universities, the military and the government.

The two men -- and a third who was nabbed

in 2013 and handed back to Iran in a prisoner swap last year -- allegedly broke into the computers of Vermont-based Arrow Tech Associates.

The indictment said they stole in 2012 the company's Prodas ballistics software, which is used to design and test bullets, warheads and other military ordnance projectiles.

The material stolen from Arrow Tech was protected by US controls on the export of sensitive technologies, and its distribution to Iran was banned by US sanctions on the country.

The two men were charged in the Rutland, Vermont federal district court, which issued arrest warrants for the two, who are believed to be in Iran.

In 2013 the US secured the arrest in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

of a third Iranian in the case, Nima Golestaneh, 30, who was extradited to the United States.

In December 2015 he pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and computer hacking.

One month later he was freed as part of a prisoner exchange with Tehran, which returned four Americans in exchange for seven Iranians who had been arrested in separate schemes to obtain and smuggle to Iran sensitive US technologies.

Pro-Syria forces advance in central Homs against ISIS
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have scored a big advance against ISIS in central Homs. The attack was made on a front that has been virtually inactive for months.

Today the SAA and allied outfits captured new points and hilltops from ISIS near the al-Tafha al-Janoubyah mountain chain to the northwest of the T-4 Military Airport. According to reports, pro-government forces advanced some two kilometers in the area.

The assault by pro-government forces was backed up by Russian Arclight Arclight airstrikes.

Although the push came on an unsuspected front, ISIS was by no means unprepared or willing to retreat; instead the terrorist group quickly assumed combat with pro-government forces as soon as it became apparent that the latter was making a committed advance.

According to a post-operation assessment provided to al-Masdar News, pro-government forces killed at least twenty (20) ISIS turbans as a result of the firefight that took place.

With the advances achieved by the SAA and its allies today, the buffer zone along the section of highway linking Homs to Palmyra as been expanded. Furthermore, the push has also brought pro-government forces closer to the strategic Huwysis area.

Whether this was just a one-off advance in the area or part of a greater offensive action is currently unknown.

German judge bans woman from wearing headscarf in court
[AA.TR] A German judge has banned a Syrian woman from wearing a headscarf in court during divorce proceedings against her husband, local media reported on Tuesday.

The woman's lawyer Najat Abokal told daily newspaper Tagesspiegel that the judge in the eastern city of Luckenwalde sent a letter to her client saying that religiously motivated statements such as wearing a headscarf would not be allowed in the hearing.

The judge's letter also warned the woman she would face legal charges if she did not comply with this instruction during the hearing scheduled for July 27, the lawyer was cited as saying.

Meanwhile,
...back at the precinct house, Don Calamari's lawyer was getting even redder in the face...
Roswitha Neumaier, the director of the district court, was reported to have said the hearing has been postponed over the objection.

In Germany, home to nearly 4.7 million Moslems, religious freedoms are protected by the constitution.

Several German states have banned public employees such as teachers, police, judges or prosecutors from wearing religious clothing and symbols while on duty. However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
there is no law that prevents citizens from wearing headscarves or other religious symbols while they are in public institutions.

Africa North
Fighting continues in Benghazi
Benghazi, 18 July 2017:

The full extent of the savage fighting to oust the last of the militants from Benghazi’s Sabri district became apparent today when the LNA admitted that since the start of the month, 78 soldiers had been killed. Twenty-one of these had fallen victim to land mines and booby traps. The LNA did not give a number for soldiers who had been injured.

And the fighting is still not over. Two pockets of militants have resumed the battle from Sabri’s vegetable market and Al-Ruyain hotel. Jalaa hospital says six dead and 20 wounded soldiers have been brought to it in the last four days.

It is unclear how many militants are now involved in the fight, nor how they were overlooked in the LNA sweep of properties. Two of them were shot dead today as they broke cover. The LNA said they were apparently trying to flee the battle. One of the bodies was pictured wearing a green T-shirt with an incongruous slogan clearly showing the word ‘American’ with a second word that might have been “Tradition”.

The exhaustion among LNA soldiers who were all jubilant 13 days ago when armed forces commander-in-chief Khalifa Hafter declared victory in Benghazi seemed clear. One soldier was sleeping on mattresses just a few hundred metres away from the fighting.

At first glance, this appears to be a neologism formed from 'idjit' and 'jihad'
