#6  Obesity as a cause?

Given that portraits of old Ottoman and Mongol emperors revealed a rather portly bunch, I believe the access to the means had more to do with it. Also, given that so much of the inner city is overrun with feral youth, there seems to be a corollary of access and the resources to 'feed the kids'. You get more of what you subsidize.

#8  ...within 10 km radius of where I sit.

No doubt whatsoever, g(r)omgoru. I haven't read the article, but I suspect the aging of the baby boom generation has something to do with it.

Incidentally, the testosterone precurser DHEA is available in pill form in the vitamin aisle of American grocery stores and drugstores for a few dollars a bottle. In most cases that will ameliorate the problem while all the plausibly associated factors are -- or are not -- dealt with.

ICE officials arrest 114 immigrants, many with criminal records, in 11-day New York enforcement sweep
[NY Daily News] Federal immigration officials say they’ve arrested 114 foreign nationals in the New York area, 99 of them in the city, during an 11-day enforcement sweep this month.

U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials arrested 104 men and 10 women in a sweep federal officials say targeted immigrants with criminal records -- including a Mexican national convicted of manslaughter, and an Ecuadoran citizen convicted of rape.

ICE officials wouldn’t say exactly where those arrested were scooped up, or if they were nabbed in home raids, or at city courthouses -- a practice blasted by city lawmakers and legal aid groups.

Nor would they release the names of the people arrested -- even though many have pending criminal cases or will face prosecution for reentering the country illegally.

Canadian Justin Bieber's F-150 (one), slow moving Paparazzo (zipp)
[Daily News] Canadian pop star Justin Bieber clipped a 57-year-old paparazzo with a hulking pickup truck while leaving a Beverly Hills church service, police said.

Bieber knocked the photographer to the ground at an "extremely slow speed" outside the Saban Theater at Wilshire Blvd. and N. Hamilton Dr. just before 9:30 p.m. local time, Beverly Hills police Lt. Scott Dowling told the Daily News.

Video shows Bieber pulling his black F-150 out of a driveway and then striking the photographer in front of a paparazzi gaggle.

The remaining paparazzi gathered around their grimacing colleague, snapping photos as someone said a prayer, according to footage from TMZ.

The "Despacito" singer remained at the crash site and even asked the camera-slinging gaggle to give the photographer some space. Bieber was later released. He was not cited for the crash, police said.

U.S. General Tony Thomas: 2015 lead on ISIS leader al-Baghdadi 'went dead' after NY Times leak
[LI] The NY Times, The Washington Post and other major news media have been in a stiff competition to leak sensitive intelligence operational information in order to harm Donald Trump and his administration. Among other things, there have been repeated supposed intelligence community leaks disclosing the ability of U.S. intelligence to monitor conversations of the Russian ambassador with his superiors back in Russia.

This is a pattern.

When Trump had a White House meeting with the Russian ambassador, The NY Times was quick to publish that sensitive intelligence information shared with the Russians about ISIS terror threats to airplanes came from Israel. There is no evidence Trump disclosed Israel as the source. ABC News was quick to claim that Israel has penetrated ISIS’s inner circle, either through a mole or electronic means, or both. There is no evidence that Trump disclosed that to the Russians, and he certainly didn’t disclose it publicly. The NY Times did that, as did other news outlets. We don’t know if that media disclosure was true, but if it were, then the media provided ISIS with the information necessary to plug the leak.

This isn’t the first time, and the NY Times indiscretion predated Trump. In 2015 the Times disclosed that the U.S. had obtained important information as to how ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi operated and avoided tracking.

U.S. General Tony Thomas just blamed the Times disclosure for helping al-Baghdadi escape targeting. Fox News’ Catherine Herridge reports, ISIS broken, but leader slipped away due to leak, says key general:

True Or False: Snopes 'in Danger Of Closing Doors'...
[WND] So-called "fact-checking" website Snopes.com is reportedly on the verge of financial collapse since one if its founders has been accused of using company cash to fund his contentious divorce and to pay for fancy vacations with his new wife, a former escort and porn actress.

The financial situation has apparently become so dire that Snopes owner David Mikkelson launched a crowd-funding website to solicit donations, according to London’s Daily Mail. Readers contributed more than $500,000 in just the first 24 hours.

As WND has reported, Snopes.com, a website that’s been around since 1995, is sometimes cited by other "fact-checking" sites to support their claims. Facebook has even indicated it plans to use Snopes as one of its arbiters of "fake news." But WND revealed the site has been criticized by conservatives for a left-leaning bias and admits it has no standard procedure for fact-checking.

Snopes.com’s founders, former husband and wife David and Barbara Mikkelson, have been embroiled in a lengthy and bitter legal dispute in the wake of their divorce. At one point, Barbara accused the CEO of using company money for prostitutes. Barbara Mikkelson also accused her ex-husband of embezzling more than $100,000 in company funds. She urged the court to limit access to David’s bank account because she said she feared he would drain the company funds due to his wild spending habits.

David claimed Barbara took millions from their joint accounts and bought property in Las Vegas. He has since remarried to a former escort and porn actress, Elyssa Young, who is one of the site’s staff members. Young, who was a Las Vegas escort until at least 2015, charged $500 for her services. She also starred in porn films as "Erin O’Bryn."
Lot more at link, including pictures if you can stand them.

Using porn actresses to do 'fact checking', what a novel idea! That should make 'facts' true!

French police use excessive force on Calais migrants: Human Rights Watch
[AhramOnline] Human Rights Watch pressed France on Wednesday to end what it described as recurrent police violence against migrants in the northern town of Calais, where hundreds have returned despite the demolition of a sprawling camp once known as "the jungle".

In a report entitled "Like Living in Hell", the U.S.-based rights group said police routinely abused migrants in the hope of having them leave the coastal city.

Based on interviews conducted with some 60 migrants in the area, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said police had used pepper spray on child and adult migrants while they were sleeping, regularly sprayed or confiscated sleeping bags and clothing, and sometimes destroyed food and water.

"Such acts violate the prohibition on inhuman and degrading treatment as well as international standards on police conduct," HRW said.

Yankee Colonizers: Why people are getting the hell out of the Northeast
[NYP] Last year, three states in the Northeast -- New Jersey, New York and Connecticut -- landed in the top five places people were moving out of fastest, according to 2017 data from United Van Lines. (The other two states on the list were Illinois and Kansas.) And data from Pew Charitable Trusts found that while people are all about moving to the South (their population grew by nearly 1.4 million people from 2014 to 2015) and the West (866,000 more people), the population growth in the Northeast is "sluggish."

The Northeastern exodus is particularly acute in many big cities like New York City. Since 2010, more than 1 million people have moved from the New York area -- which includes parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island -- to other parts of the country.

So why are so many Northerners packing their bags?

#1  CAUTION: Many are bringing their liberal political views with them.

I was visiting my favorite hardware store recently and overheard a fellow buying a logjack telling about the one he used to have at his place in Vermont. Overhearing him could not be helped. #3  Every where they go to and effectively convert to liberalism dies also. They are parasites killing host after host and jumping over to another host when that is dead from libtardism.

There are some who see the light and turn away from liberalism. There are some hosts who turn on them and defend their successful region against them. These are the noble anti bodies that every conservative area should have but don't.

Don't stand by and listen. Interject yourself into their conversation. Let them know the house rules or they will be wishing they never came to Dodge City.

John Lewis (D-Ga): Trans in military now becomes race issue
[The Hill] Civil rights icon: I fought too hard against discrimination to watch transgender ban happen.

Civil Rights icon John Lewis (D-Ga.) ripped President Trump's Wednesday announcement banning transgender people from serving in the military, saying he didn't fight to end racial discrimination just to allow discrimination based on gender identity.

"I fought too long to end discrimination based on race and color to allow discrimination based on gender identity to be considered acceptable," Lewis tweeted late Wednesday.

"I stand with our transgender service members, and I pray that they will not lose heart. They must know that we love them. We respect them. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice, and most importantly, we will stand for their rights, just as they have stood for ours," Lewis continued over a series of tweets.

Colonizers Overwhelm German Courts with Asylum Lawsuits: ‘This Will Paralyze Us for Years'
[Free Beacon] Migrants are overwhelming the German court system as hundreds of thousands have appealed rulings denying them refugee status.

Many migrants are suing after being granted "subsidiary protection" status by the German authorities, seeking to become full refugeees, the Washington Post reports. Those with subsidiary protection status can stay in Germany for up to three years, but do not have the right to reunify with family.

Two-thirds of cases in Berlin's administrative court are from asylum seekers, as 250,000 appeals are pending across the country Germany.

"This will paralyze us for years," a judge told Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel concerning the build up of lawsuits.

#2  Germany needs to treat this like the emergency it is, instead of just working longer and harder in the same way as they have done in the past. The asylum/refugee program already has a liberal appeals process built in; there is no need to extend further supported presence in-country while legal appeals run through the courts.

This is how known Islamists are still on the rolls when they commit terror attacks at the end of years of appeals.

Pass a law allowing no more than two levels of appeal followed by immediate expulsion -- taken from the ruling directly to the waiting airplane -- upon rejection. And any of that 250,000 who have exceeded these criteria is to be picked up and held for expulsion immediately without appeal -- after processing for DNA, fingerprints, photos, copies of passports and other official papers, and copies of the contents of all electronic devices. It's important that all members of Islamist groups be separated and handed over to their home govrenments for punishment.

Oh, and anyone who lied about his age, pretending to be a child, is also to be expelled immediately. Germany needs honest citizens who will work as hard as the natives, not people who start out gaming the system.

Sadly, it's likely none of this will be done so long as childless Angela Merkel is in charge.

Israel removes more security installations outside Temple Mount
I really hope the Israelis have something up their sleeves.
[IsraelTimes] Railings, scaffolding for cameras dismantled at entrance to sensitive holy site, a day after metal detectors were taken down

Israel late Wednesday removed relatively minor security installations, including fairly flimsy metal railings, from an entrance to the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, a sensitive holy site that has been at the center of violence over the past two weeks in the wake of a terror attack in which two Israeli coppers were killed near the compound. The Moslem authorities who administer the site had demanded that the railings be removed, among other steps, in a list given to Israel Police earlier Wednesday.

In response to the July 14 attack, in which three Arab Israelis killed the two officers near the Lions Gate with guns they had smuggled into the holy site, Israel installed security measures at the entrances, including metal detectors, which set off protests and deadly unrest in and around East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Early on Tuesday, Israel had removed the metal detectors. Late on Wednesday night, newly installed railings and scaffolding where cameras were previously mounted were also removed from the Lions Gate area near the entrance to the Mount.

The removal of the railings and scaffolding late Wednesday prompted celebrations by Paleostinians, who danced, whistled and honked their horns near the site.

Moslems have refused to enter the site and have prayed in the streets outside for more than a week after Israel installed the new security measures.

It was not immediately clear whether Moslem authorities would now give their approval to re-enter the site. They had demanded that all security changes at access points to the compound be removed, and on Wednesday gave a list of such demands to Israel Police. The list included reopening five gates to the Temple Mount closed in the latest crisis, the removal of five new cameras installed in the Mount area, and the removal of the metal railings placed at the entrances.

The Paleostinian Authority of the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
has frozen ties with Israel over the episode, and Abbas on Wednesday approved mass demonstrations on a "day of rage" scheduled for Friday. The Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group also called for protests on Friday.

China-Japan-Koreas
Chinese State Media: Public ‘Detest' America, Wanted U.S. Recon Plane Shot Down
[Breitbart] The Chinese state propaganda outlet Global Times has published an incendiary column claiming that the Chinese public "really detest US reconnaissance" in Asia and "actually wanted" China to shoot down a U.S. reconnaissance plane dangerously intercepted over the weekend.

The Global Times called the Pentagon’s objection to the outrageous aerial move "ridiculous" and demanded the United States cease all intelligence operations in the region.

On Sunday, two Chinese fighter jets gave chase to an American reconnaissance aircraft over the international waters of the East China Sea, forcing the American plane to maneuver away from them rapidly. American officials with knowledge of the situation described the Chinese jets’ behavior as "unsafe," while the Pentagon clarified that the American plane was conducting a "routine" mission.

"The ’righteousness’ of the Pentagon is ridiculous," the Times complained. "US military reconnaissance threatens China’s national security and an intercept by the Chinese navy is justified."

The article goes on to praise the Chinese military for its "restraint," suggesting that the will of the Chinese people would have been to see the incident turn deadly. "The public actually wanted the US reconnaissance plane to be shot down directly," the article claims. "Of course the PLA would not do it, but the Chinese people really detest US reconnaissance, which is bound to have an impact on the response of the Chinese military."

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Six Senate Republicans Who Flip-flopped in Favor of Obamacare
Seven moderate Republicans voted against the clean Obamacare repeal bill in the Senate.

Sens. Dean Heller (R-NV), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), John McCain (R-AZ), Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Rob Portman (R-OH), and Susan Collins (R-ME) voted against Sen. Paul’s clean Obamacare repeal bill. All of these senators except for Sen. Collins voted to rescind Obamacare in 2015.

Conservative activists previously branded Sens. Murkowski, Portman, and Capito "traitors" for betraying their promise to the American people to repeal Obamacare.

Conservative activist groups Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks urged Republican senators to vote for Sen. Paul’s clean Obamacare repeal bill. Ken Cuccinelli of the Senate Conservative Fund recently suggested that his group might primary faux-Republicans such as Capito, Portman, and Murkowski.

Senator Paul wrote in an exclusive op-ed for Breitbart News, "That’s a good question. I say yes, but I tell you this ‐ it’s hard to say yes if we can’t do something as simple as keeping our word. As simple as voting today how we voted before when we were asking to be in charge. If you tell people you’re going to do something, do it. It’s just that simple. Let’s repeal Obamacare."

After his bill failed, Sen. Paul argued, "It’s a victory for conservatives that we did get a vote for a clean repeal."

Not only have these six senators voted to repeal Obamacare, they publicly pledged to do so on the campaign trail and in the halls of the Senate. Here are six times these senators promised to repeal Obamacare:

Lamar Alexander, "The wisest course is to repeal Obamacare and replace it step by step with solutions that lower health care costs."
Shelley Moore Capito, "I have consistently voted to repeal and replace this disastrous health care law, and I am glad that a repeal bill will finally reach the president’s desk."
Dean Heller,"This DC bureaucrat-driven healthcare system will only result in limited health care choices and higher costs for Nevadans."
Lisa Murkowski, "This law is not affordable for anyone in Alaska. That is why I will support the bill that repeals the ACA and wipes out its harmful impacts. I can’t watch premiums for Alaskans shoot up by 30 percent or more each year, see businesses artificially constrained, or see the quality of public education decline."
John McCain, "It is clear that any serious attempt to improve our health care system must begin with a full repeal and replacement of Obamacare, and I will continue fighting on behalf of the people of Arizona to achieve it."
Rob Portman, "I’m for repealing this broken law and replacing it with something better that gives patients more choice, decreases costs and increases access to quality, affordable care."

Kurds detain ISIS suspects in Afrin
[ARA News] The Kurdish Asayish police has arrested three ISIS suspects in Afrin district, in Syria’s northwestern Aleppo province.

The suspects were detained by the Kurdish forces nearly 10 days ago, while trying to flee Syria into Turkey, the Asayish said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Kurdish police said the three ISIS jihadists were arrested subsequent to an investigation of their personal information, after they were stopped at a checkpoint.

After interrogation, they finally confessed they belonged to ISIS and travelled across different areas under ISIS-control, such as Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.

The suspects also confessed that they have participated in many ISIS battles.

Subsequent to the investigation, the suspects were referred on Wednesday to the court of the Rojava Self-Administration.

Baghdadi associate dies in bombing attack in Salahuddin

Mutaibija (IraqiNews.com) A prominent Islamic State guide has been killed in an explosion east of Salahuddin province, an official from the Shia-led paramilitary troops said on Wednesday.

“A prominent IS guide, known as Barhoum, was killed in a bomb blast while accompanying militants in Mutaibija, east of Salahuddin,” Jabbar al-Maamouri, of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) told AlSumaria News.

“Barhoum is known to be close to IS leaders. He is said to have guided Baghdadi [the group’s supreme guide] to Mosul and the Grand Nuri al-Kabeer mosque, when he gave his famous sermon,” Maamouri added. “He played a pivotal role in organizing the militants infiltration between Hawija and Mutaibija as well as other regions, given the information he enjoys about their nature.”

IS militants, according to Maamouri, call Barhoum as ‘abu Taha’. “He is from a village in Hawija. His previous job is unknown, however, he joined the group in 2014 and then became an important guide at the sprawling areas between Kirkuk, Salahuddin and Diyala .”

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

Occasional attacks have been witnessed in Mutaibija by Islamic State against government and paramilitary troops deployments since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and PMUs, launched a major offensive to retake areas occupied by IS since 2014,

Iraqi security forces detains ISIS armorer in Samarra

Samarra (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi security forces in Salahuddin province arrested on Wednesday an Islamic State member who was responsible for supplying the group’s combat vehicles with armors.

A statement by the Interior Ministry said the so-nicknamed “al-Bari” was arrested in the city of Samarra. It said he was wanted by authorities based on the anti-terrorism law.

Since Iraqi forces began recapturing areas occupied by Islamic State members since 2014, they occasionally ran into numerous munition reservoirs belonging to the group which gave insight into the group’s unusual arming techniques. Findings included decoy fighters and combat equipment as well as improvised vehicle shieldings and drones.

Islamic State militants are currently holding a few pockets in Nineveh, Salahuddin, Anbar and Kirkuk. Earlier this month, the group sustained defeat to Iraqi forces at its previously proclaimed capital: Mosul. The victory meant an effective collapse of the self-styled “caliphate” the group declared in 2014. Iraqi commanders say more than 25000 militants were killed since operations to retake the city launched in October 2016.

Many senior local and foreign leaders and lower-ranking commanders have been killed in the U.S,-backed Iraqi campaign to retake Iraqi cities.

Big ISIS Turban gunned down in Kirkuk

Haqwija (IraqiNews.com) Unknown gunmen shot dead a senior Islamic State military official in southwestern Kirkuk, a local official in the province was quoted saying on Wednesday.

Ahmed Khourshid, a member of the municipal council of Hawija, an Islamic State stronghold, told Alsumaria News that Tarek Amniya, the military bureau official of the Islamic State’s so-called Diyala State, was gunned down by unknown assailants.

The attack took place at al-Madina, a village in Hawija, the source said, adding that Amniya was one of the much-hated figures in Hawija and had carried out executions of many locals sentenced to death by the Islamic State.

Islamic State has held Hawija since the group emerged in 2014 to declare a “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. Iraqi government forces launched offensives late 2016 to retake areas held by the group. Since then, there have been occasional reports of anonymous assassinations of group members at some cities occupied by the militants.

Hawija currently hosts offices of the Islamic State command offices of Diyala, Salahuddin and others as the group had withdrawn from those areas.

Earlier this month, Iraqi forces declared victory over IS in Mosul, the group’s largest bastion in Iraq, ending more than eight months of fighting. The Iraqi government intends to launch further offensives to clear other havens, including Hawija.

2 Iraqi militia die in checkpoint attack in Tikrit
Tikrit (IraqiNews.com) Two personnel of the Shia-led paramilitary troops were killed, while three others were wounded as booby-trapped vehicle targeted a checkpoint, east of Tikrit city, Iraqi police source said.

The vehicle, according to the source, exploded late on Tuesday at a checkpoint of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) at al-Naama village, near Hamreen mountains, east of Tikrit.

In related news, the troops media service announced killing three Islamic State militants as an IS attack near al-Siniya village, north of Tikrit, was repulsed.

IS still holds a few areas in each of Anbar, Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk.

Growing activity by IS members has been seen at Salahuddin borders with Diyala over the past months coinciding with operations by U.S.-backed Iraqi government troops in Mosul, Islamic State’s largest stronghold which was declared free earlier this month.

Britain
Britain to ban sale of all diesel and petrol cars and vans from 2040
[Guardian] Britain is to ban all new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 amid fears that rising levels of nitrogen oxide pose a major risk to public health.

The commitment, which follows a similar pledge in France, is part of the government’s much-anticipated clean air plan, which has been at the heart of a protracted high court legal battle.

The government warned that the move, which will also take in hybrid vehicles, was needed because of the unnecessary and avoidable impact that poor air quality was having on people’s health. Ministers believe it poses the largest environmental risk to public health in the UK, costing up to £2.7bn in lost productivity in one recent year.

Ministers have been urged to introduce charges for vehicles to enter a series of "clean air zones" (CAZ). However, the government only wants taxes to be considered as a last resort, fearing a backlash against any move that punishes motorists.

"Poor air quality is the biggest environmental risk to public health in the UK and this government is determined to take strong action in the shortest time possible," a government spokesman said.

two in two separate raids in Giza targeting those behind an attack on a checkpoint in mid-July that killed five security personnel.

The interior ministry’s statement said that security officials identified two hideouts for members of the group behind the 14 July attack on a checkpoint in the Giza town of El-Badrashin, one in the satellite city of 6 October and another in Giza’s Haram district.

As police were attempting to raid the hideout in 6 October, the suspected holy warriors started firing at security forces, prompting a shootout that killed all four Death Eaters, the statement added.

Two bandidos turbans were found and arrested in the second hideout in Haram’s Faisal Street.

A number of weapons were found in the hideouts, including machine guns and materials used in manufacturing bombs.

ISIS was responsible for the bombings in the village of Qaa on Leb's border with Syria.

Tantawi was also a hafiz, a term used to distinguish those who have memorized the Koran in full. He became a professional reciter in 1969, when he was admitted to Al Azhar University, Egypt’s top religious authority. His voice was on air in radio stations across Egypt’s Delta region in the 1980s.

The reciter was popular in many Moslem countries, as it normally goes for Egyptian masters of the art. Many in Iran viewed him as an icon and Tantawi used to relish the memories of his single trip to the country in 2009.

Leading imam to head police in troubled Philippine city
[AA.TR] A leading Moslem figure has been appointed to head the police in Marawi City, where pro-ISIS murderous Moslems have been fighting for two months.

Ebra Moxsir al-Haj, president of the Imam Council of the Philippines, assumed his role on Monday, Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, the police chief for the Autonomous Region in Moslem Mindanao, said in a statement.

Moxsir, a native of the city, has been a member of the Philippine National Police Chaplain Service for 22 years, GMA News reported.

"A fusion of spiritual and strategic rule, Superintendent Moxsir is expected to deliver a traditional yet innovative way of handling his area of responsibility," Sindac said, according to GMA.

The new police chief would be key to bringing peace to the city, the statement added.

Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. Pockets of murderous Moslems are still holding out in a battle that has seen 453 bad boys, 109 government troops and 45 civilians killed.

Afghanistan
Nearly 40 Afghan soldiers lost lives, 30 wounded in Kandahar attack
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Nearly 40 soldiers of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces have bit the dust in an attack by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
turbans in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan.

According to the local government officials, the incident took place late on Tuesday night in the vicinity of Khakriz district.

A local official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed the attack was carried out on a base of the Afghan army forces.

The official further added that 40 Afghan soldiers bit the dust and 30 others were maimed in the attack.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan, confirmed the attack however it did not confirm the casualties toll as described by the local officials.

The Ministry of Defense said at least 26 soldiers bit the dust in the attack and more than 10 others were maimed.

The Taliban turbans grabbed credit behind the attack and claimed that scores of soldiers were killed or maimed.

Kandahar has been among the relatively calm provinces in southern Afghanistan during the recent years but the security situation of the province, particularly, the remote districts have started to deteriorate during the recent months and after the Talibs increased their focus on key southern provinces after they launched their spring offensive in April this year.

Karzai calls on Pakistan to abandon support to terrorism after deadly Lahore bombing
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
has called on Pakistain to abandon nurturing and supporting the terrorist groups after the deadly bombing Lahore city.

The Office of the former Afghanistan's Caped President in a statement said Karzai has expressed deep concerns regarding the casualties of the civilians and the terrorist attack in Lahore.

Calling the attack against the values of humanity and Islam, Karzai said Pakistain must abandon support to terrorist groups so that the region can live peacefully and specifically help Afghanistan and Pakistain to get rid of the menace of the terror.

He called on Pakistain to support Afghanistan and take honest steps to eliminate the menace of terrorism as he insisted on further improving relations with Pakistain.

Karzai further added that Paks are the brothers of the Afghan people and the Afghan nation shares the grief and sorrows of the people of Pakistain.

The attack in Lahore city, the scenic provincial capital of Lahore province of Pakistain left at least 26 dead and more than 50 others maimed.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon after a jacket wallah detonated his explosives near the security personnel.

The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
group in Pakistain, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain grabbed credit behind the deadly attack.

The remarks by Karzai came as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for allowing the Afghan myrmidon groups, specifically the Haqqani terrorist network to use its soil for planning and carrying out attacks in Afghanistan, a claim which has repeatedly been backed by numerous US government reports during the recent years and months.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
DNC Pakistani IT Spy Fella Hires Hildebeest's Legal Team
[Daily Caller] Chris Gowen, Imran Awan’s lawyer, is a long-time campaigner for former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a member of an attorney team that brought a fraudulent lawsuit against energy giant Chevron.

Pakistani-born Awan was arrested late Monday at Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia before he could board a flight to Qatar and then Pakistan on bank fraud charges. Awan, his younger brothers, Abid and Jamal, his wife, Hina Alvi, and Rao Abbas, his best friend, have been subjects of a federal criminal investigation led by the U.S. Capitol Police and including the FBI since February 2017.

The investigation is focused on allegations the Awan group abused their access as congressional information technology (IT) administrators for dozens of Democratic members of the House of Representatives, including former Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida.

Politico reported the criminal probe concerned "serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network."

Gowen described Awan’s arrest as "clearly a right-wing media-driven prosecution by a United States Attorney’s Office that wants to prosecute people for working while Muslim."

Gowen is a founding partner of Gowen, Rhoades, Winograd and Silva law firm, with offices in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Penn.

Gator snacks on homeless man bathing in pond
[NYP] An alligator attacked a homeless man as he was bathing in a Florida pond, taking his left index finger, two toes -- and a testicle, according to reports.

Fredric Iman, 68, recalled Tuesday from his hospital bed how the horrifying incident went down during an interview with local ABC affiliate, WZVN.

"I tried to get it away, and it tried to pull me in," he said, describing how the 9-foot gator grabbed hold of him from behind.

"I turned around, and...punched it in the eye."

Iman told WZVN that he had been taking his usual, morning bath on Monday in a retention pond in Port Charlotte -- which is about 100 miles south of Tampa -- when the attack unfolded.

"You’re having a nice day one minute, and the next minute, you’re a bloody mess," he said.

After being bitten several times on his left foot and leg, left hand, and groin, Iman managed to escape the gator’s jaws and trek up to a nearby surgery center, where a worker called police.

"It ate his toes off," the employee said, while speaking to a 911 operator.

Saudi jailed for planning to blow up security sites by remote control plane
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A criminal court in Riyadh sentenced a Saudi national to 10 years in prison on Wednesday for plotting to blow up security and government sites in Qatif province.

The court found that the citizen was convicted of carrying out a terrorist operation as part of a scheme by terrorist groups. He used his wireless plane after filling it with explosives to target the parking location between the Qatif governorate traffic building and the main governorate building.

He planned to blow up the government buildings and kill as many coppers as possible and participate with other rioters in disrupting public roads and covering up the whereabouts of wanted elements in terrorist cases in the province of Qatif.

He was also convicted of meeting with some of them and covering up the time and place of arms trading on Tarot Island.

Thinni government wants imams to preach against random shooting
[Libya Herald] The acting interior minister in the Beida-based interim government has called on the head of its General Authority for Awqaf (religious endowments) and Islamic Affairs to instruct imams to preach against indiscriminate firing of weapons.

Hussein Ellabar told Awqaf chief Abdulmouli al-Hassanouni that an awareness programme pointing out the dangers of indiscriminate firing into the air needed to be disseminated through mosques. People were being killed an injured as a result, he pointed out. It also caused panic particularly among the sick and the elderly as well as being selfish and resented, he added.

With the mass of weapons and ammunition held in Libya, shooting guns into the air not, just to warn off people but at weddings and other events, is an almost daily occurrenc, and has been since the 2011 revolutione. Sometimes, it is not just guns but rocket-propelled grenades as well.

Just three days ago, a 25-year-old man was maimed in Benghazi’s Salmani district as a result of what is thought to have been random firing. So too the same day was a 54-year-old woman when a shell landed at a social club in the city. Today, a 19-year-old young woman was hit in the eye by indiscriminate fire near Sabri.

Beida government insists its Islamic affairs authority is moderate
[Libya Herald] The Beida-based government has sided with its Awqaf (religious endowments) and Islamic Affairs Authority in the row over the latter’s fatwa damning Ibadis as infidels. It has claimed that the committee is moderate, keen on social peace and keeping Libya united.

Last month the authority has issued an edict describing Ibadi Moslems as infidels and "Kharjites" despite the fact that a large proportion of Libya’s Amazigh community are Ibadis.

According to the Libyan Tamzight Congress, there are between 300,000 to 400,000 of them in the country.

The edict has produced a massive outcry , both from the Amazigh and the non-Amazigh communities in the country. Last week, the Presidency Council joined in the condemnation.

Ignoring the link between the Amazigh and the Ibadi form of Islam and indicating surprise at the outcry, the Beida government said there had been no mention of the Amazigh in the edict. It called on all Libyans, including the Amazigh, to remain calm and collected, and not allow themselves to be drawn into any conflict as a result of the it.

The interim government’s response follows a similar statement from the Awqaf authority’s fatwa committee a couple of days ago, in which it similarly tried to exculpate itself in the row by likewise stressing that there had been no mention of the Amazigh.

Police arrest 20 Panchayat members who ordered 'revenge rape' in Multan
[DAWN] A search operation is underway to arrest the members of a panchayat (village council) who fled after ordering a man to rape a 17-year-old girl, police said on Wednesday.

According to SHO Malik Rashid, the search operation began after two cases were registered against the members of the council at a cop shoppe inside the Violence Against Women centre in Multan.

The council, comprising at least 40 men, was convened in Muzaffarabad's Rajpur area after a 12-year-old girl, F*, was raped by a man while cutting grass in a field on July 16, reads the First Information Report (FIR) filed at the cop shoppe.

On July 18, the panchayat ordered F's brother to rape 17-year-old N*, the sister of the accused. According to the police, N was dragged to the area where the panchayat was convened and was raped before the men and her parents.

After the incident, the parents of N filed an FIR on July 20, while a second FIR was filed on July 24 by F's family, who had initially wished to keep the matter quiet.

After the cases were registered, the police started investigations and tossed in the calaboose

Al shabaab fires mortars at Ethiopian troops base near Bardere
[SHABELLENEWS] Al shabaab fighters were reported to have fired several mortar rounds at a military base belonging to Æthiopian troops near the southern city of Bardere in Gedo region on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, Col Mohamud Guhad Omar known as "Tima-Jilac" told Radio Shabelle that the mortar shells landed around and in the base, and caused no casualties.

Omar said Æthiopian troops, along with the Somali government forces launched an anti-Al shabaab operation in Bardere, and its surrounding suburbs, to ensure the overall security.

Joint US-Somali military raid nabs suspected US resident
[SHABELLENEWS] A joint US-Somali military raid on an al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
target in Somalia on Sunday resulted in the capture of an al-Shabaab controller who is suspected of being a lawful US resident, two US defense officials told CNN.

US military advisers were conducting an "advise and assist mission," accompanying local Somali security forces as they launched a raid on an al-Shabaab target, al Qaeda’s Somali affiliate, in the area of Gilcayo, Somalia.

During the raid the officials said a "known al-Shabaab controller and suspected lawful resident of the US was captured by the Somali National Security Forces." One official called the capture "a target of opportunity" and said that the individual recently traveled to the United States. The official said the detainee is not an American citizen and that the military is working to confirm the nature of his US residency with US law enforcement.

The individual is currently being detained by the Somali government.

The Pentagon referred CNN to the government of Somalia.

Sunday’s operation follows news of another joint US-Somali raid against al-Shabaab that was launched earlier this month.

"US forces are assisting partner forces to counter al-Shabaab in Somalia to degrade the al-Qaeda affiliate’s ability to recruit, train and plot external terror attacks throughout the region and in America," US Africa Command, which oversees US troops in the region, said in a statement following the earlier operation in Kunyo Barrow, Somalia.

Former Intelligence officer among 4 killed in Mogadishu fighting
[SHABELLENEWS] Four soldiers, including former head of Benadir Intelligence chief were killed a deadly clash between military and National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) forces Wednesday.

The shootout between the two groups within the Somali security forces broke out at a military checkpoint at National theatre, near the hilltop Presidential palace in the capital.

The infighting erupted after the military soldiers denied a convoy carrying former Benadir Intelligence chief Isse Jiljile access to the main street over unknown circumstance.

The dispute has sparked a deadly shootout that left Jiljile and three of his bodyguards dead, while at least six others were maimed, according to the sources.

Early in the day, Mogadishu stabilization forces clashed with gunnies dressed in civilian clothes in separate areas in the capital, which led to the wound of one soldier.

The unit formed in last April has carried dozens of operations within the capital targeting illegal firearms, al-Shabaab

Algiers police bust terrorist group affiliated with Daesh
[Iran Press TV] Algerian police have broken up a ISIS terrorist cell led by a former al-Qaeda commander convicted in La Belle France more than a decade ago for planning an attempted bombing in Strasbourg, a security source said on Wednesday.

Mohammed Yacine Aknouche, 43, was once a Europe-based affiliate of Algeria's Islamic Armed Group (GIA), and was sentenced in absentia by a French court in 2004 to eight years prison, said the source, who asked not to be named.

The source told Rooters that Algerian forces captured Aknouche this week near Tipaza, a coastal city 50 km west of the capital Algiers where officials charge he had been planning to carry out attacks on security forces. It was not clear when he had returned to Algeria.

Militant attacks and bombings are rarer in Algeria since the North African country ended its decades-long 1990s war with armed Lions of Islam in which 200,000 people died.

But remnants of al Qaeda brigades remain active and ISIS has been trying to recruit more people.

The Algerian newspaper Ennahar quoted unnamed security sources as saying the cell was based in the village of Ain Taggourait and had plotted attacks in Algiers. Aknouche's cell, it said, had trained in a nearby forest using homemade weapons.

US purchases five new ScanEagle drones for the Afghan forces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States has awarded a Washington-based firm for the purchase and delivery of five new ScanleEagle drones for the Afghan national defense and security forces.

The order provides for the procurement of five ScanEagle Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs), spares, support equipment, field service representatives, operators to provide technical services, site surveys, site activations teams, and program management to sustain and operate the ScanEagle UASs within Afghanistan.

"Work will be performed in Afghanistan (95 percent); and Bingen, Washington (5 percent), and is expected to be completed in April 2018. Afghan Security Forces funding in the amount of $19,611,424 is being obligated on this award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year," the statement added.

This comes as efforts are underway by the Afghan government and the international allies of Afghanistan to increase the air power of the Afghan cops.

The commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph L. Votel requested the US Congress to approve the budget for the Afghan forces Blackhawk program.

US-backed Syria force has ousted ISIS from half of Raqqa
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A US-backed alliance has ousted ISIS group holy warriors from half of their Syrian bastion Raqqa, a monitor said Wednesday, less than two months after its fighters entered the city.

"The Syrian Democratic Forces are now in control of 50 percent of Raqqa city despite the fierce resistance mounted by ISIS," said Rami Abdel Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The SDF’s Arab and Kurdish fighters broke into Raqqa on June 6 after spending months chipping away at miliants-held territory around the northern Syrian city.

They have since steadily advanced in a pincer-like motion, closing in on the city center.

The SDF assault has been backed by air strikes, special forces advisers, equipment and weapons from the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

But ISIS has fought back using boom-mobiles, suicide kabooms and weaponized drones.

UN: Saudi-led alliance responsible for refugee boat attack off Yemen
[Iran Press TV] UN Sherlocks have censured as a violation of humanitarian law a deadly March attack by the Saudi-led military alliance fighting Yemen

on a boat carrying Somali refugees off the coast of the impoverished country.

More than 40 people, including women and kiddies, were killed and dozens of others were maimed after a Saudi-led strike hit the refugee boat near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.

The coalition has denied striking the boat near the port of Hudaydah.

"This civilian vessel was almost certainly attacked using a 7.62 mm caliber weapon from an armed utility helicopter," the Sherlocks wrote in a 185-page report to the UN Security Council on Monday, Rooters reported on Wednesday, adding that the helicopter was likely operating from a naval vessel.

The UN report said the attack violated international humanitarian law and threatened the peace, security and stability of Yemen.

Prince Salman seeking to remove head of Saudi national guard
[Iran Press TV] Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, who became the next in line for the throne by sweeping aside his father's nephew Mohammed bin Nayef, is now planning to secure his path to power by removing the kingdom’s National Guard Minister Mutaib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud , according to a new report.

Wary of a possible coup down the road, the 33-year-old prince thinks removing Abdullah and dismantling the powerful national guard allows him to take control over at least 80 percent of the country’s military and security forces, the Lebanese al-Nabaa TV reported Wednesday.

Under the new plan, the national guard would lose its ministerial status and operate instead under the command of the Defense Ministry, which is also headed by Salman.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the task only looks easy on paper since the national guard has evolved from a small government entity into an influential organization that specializes in protecting the royal family from internal dangers such as, ironically enough, a coup, the report added.

Founded in 1911, the force entered its golden era in the early 1960s, thanks to strong support from late King Abdullah.

Mutaib entered the national guard in 1990 and was appointed as its new commander some 20 years later. The powerful prince managed to overhaul the force through a $3 billion program that began less than a year later.

#1  ...This bears watching. The Saudi NG isn't the National Guard the way we understand it - it's a light mechanized cavalry force (best way to describe it) that is a direct descendant of the Ikwhahan, the force that conquered the Arabian Peninsula under the first King Abdul Aziz, and is answerable directly and ONLY to whoever the current king is. They don't come under the regular Saudi chain of command and whatever the Saudi government might say, their job is the protection of the House of Saud. They tend to be highly motivated and highly competent Bedouin who take their jobs very seriously.

If someone is trying to get them on a leash, then that someone is trying to take them off the board for some reason. Stay tuned...

One killed as Saudi forces shell homes in Shia town
[Iran Press TV] Saudi regime forces have launched a fresh wave of shelling attacks against a besieged town in Soddy Arabia

’s Shia-populated Eastern Province, killing at least one person and damaging several houses.

On Wednesday, a series of video footage circulating on social media websites showed Saudi troops, equipped with heavy weapons, waging a new offensive against Awamiyah, located some 390 kilometers northeast of the capital, Riyadh.

Several homes, business and historical have been totally destroyed or partially damaged after Saudi forces shelled al-Jamima neighborhood and al-Mosara, the old quarter of the town of Awamiyah.

A Shia resident identified as Mohsen el-Aojami lost his life after he was sprayed with bullets by Saudi forces.
There are reportedly at least two Indian migrant workers among those injured in the raids.

Main entrances to the region have been closed and the regime forces have imposed heavy restrictions on movement of the citizens.

Residents have been forced to stay indoors as the regime has deployed snipers across the entire region.

The Riyadh regime forces in riot gear have also set up barricades and security checkpoint to prevent people from organizing any gathering or protest rally.

Local residents complain that police deployed at the checkpoints are snatching and stealing their personal belongings.

Authorities also shut down internet and mobile services across the area.

Earlier reports said that garbage has piled up as Saudi forces continue to prevent relevant authorities from collecting trash across several areas.

How to Talk to Your Teen About Colluding With Russia
[McSweeney's] Even the best-behaved teen is likely to encounter a situation where he or she is tempted to collude with Russia. Unfortunately for parents, a teen’s natural tendency to test the limits of independence can often manifest itself in his or her exchanging sensitive information with Russian emissaries for material or other rewards. If not constructively addressed during adolescence, colluding with Russia can have much more serious consequences in adulthood.

Here are a few tips for engaging in a healthy conversation with your teen about the hazards of colluding with Russia:

Keep the Lines of Dialogue Open
Don’t be shy about asking your teen where she has been, who she has spent time with, or why she has receipts from Cypriot bank wire transfers hidden under a false bottom of her jewelry case. If you discover a folder marked "parental Kompromat" try to stay focused and not act emotional. Think about her point of view and why she would consider it important to have your social security number, Gmail password, and Pornhub search history in a secret folder. Take advantage of these "teachable moments" to have meaningful discussions about colluding with Russia with your teen.

Explain the Negative Consequences of Colluding With Russia
When talking to your teen about colluding with Russia honesty is the best policy. You shouldn’t shy away from mentioning that a Federal indictment could turn into an awkward blemish on a college application, or that retributive Polonium poisoning could likely hamper one’s ability to compete for a coveted lacrosse scholarship. Remind them also that sharing their behavior on social media is never a good idea. Posting a selfie with a Russian aluminum magnate or "checking in" to a Kremlin safe house can have ramifications that are difficult to erase later on.

Understand Your Teen Will Likely Experiment at Some Point
Parents must be realistic and remember that despite their best efforts their teen will try colluding with Russia at a party, in their friend’s basement, or even in a hotel room after the prom. Your teen should understand that if he has been out late colluding with Russia he should never, under any circumstances, get in a car -- especially a nondescript windowless van with diplomatic license plates. He should understand that you will come get him and give him a ride home no questions asked!

Saying No to Peer Pressure
If other teens in your child’s peer group are colluding with Russia, then she is likely to feel pressured to follow suit in order to fit in. For example if she goes to a mall and sees one of her friends stuff a thumb drive up under the paper towel dispenser in the restroom, she will no doubt feel a curious exhilaration and a compulsion to emulate such behavior. Similarly, teens may also be influenced into colluding with Russia by movies, TV shows, or current events that depict colluding with Russia as "cool," "fun," or even a little dangerous. You should actively assist your teen by praising their good behaviors and accomplishments, which can help passively discourage transgressive forays such as offering to launder money through a complex array of shell companies or cash real estate purchases.

Remember, any effort you make now to address your teen’s colluding with Russia is like an investment in their future. The last thing any parent wants is for the behavior to carry into adulthood when it can seriously hurt the parent as well as the child!

Mattis Orders Full Review Of Any Military Training That Has Nothing To Do With Warfighting
[DAILYCALLER] Secretary of Defense James Mattis has ordered a full review of any military training not directly relevant to warfighting.

Mattis told the services to conduct a review of the "requirements for mandatory force training that does not directly support core tasks," according to a Friday memo obtained by Military Times.

In other words, Mattis wants a full examination of all the hours of burdensome, irrelevant training service members have to undergo before deployment.

"I want to verify that our military policies also support and enhance warfighting readiness and force lethality," Mattis said.

Mattis also asked for a review into what should be done about permanently non-deployable service members.

The memo states that the review will be headed by a working group under the Pentagon’s undersecretary for personnel and readiness, a position currently occupied by Anthony M. Kurta. While President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
recently tapped Robert Wilkie for the job, Wilkie has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.

Mattis has recently involved himself in various personnel issues, particularly by encouraging Congress to block an amendment by GOP Rep. Vicky Hartzler to the annual defense budget bill that would have prevented Department of Defense funds from being used to pay for transgender medical treatments. Hartzler’s amendment failed after 24 Republicans voted against it.

Recommendations from the new review Mattis has set in motion are due by Dec. 1, 2018.

Iraq
After ISIS, Mosul rebuilds mosques, monuments -- and society
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Faisal Jeber jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
and interrogated suspected ISIS Death Eaters during the battle for djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
. Now he is taking up a new fight that could be just as crucial to the city’s future.

The 47-year-old geologist is trying to restore historical sites damaged during the krazed killer group’s brutal three-year rule over the northern Iraqi city. By piecing back together buildings which he says gave Mosul its soul and identity before the war, Jeber hopes also to help rebuild its social fabric.

But the city’s renaissance could take a generation, if it happens at all, he says, and it is uncertain how Mosul and other Iraqi towns and cities recaptured by government forces will look afterwards. How Mosul’s identity is reconstituted will help determine whether Iraqi leaders can pacify a country dogged by Death Eaters and sectarian bloodshed for the past decade.

"ISIS tried hard to destroy Mosul’s identity by demolishing everything and making it monochrome," Faisal told Rooters in Mosul. "I am using this to unite my city and then maybe the whole country."

Before the war, Mosul was Iraq’s second-largest city, known for its diversity, religious conservatism and nationalism. After the US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003, it became a base for al Qaeda and insurgency.

Since ISIS seized Mosul in 2014 in the face of the Iraqi army’s collapse, the Death Eaters have blown up monuments, evicted communities that had lived together for centuries and turned neighbors against each other. Following the group’s defeat in Mosul this month in a US-backed offensive, billboards have gone up on a main road hailing the city as the cradle of civilization and showing landmarks dating back to the days of Mesopotamia.

It is, Jeber says, a unique moment to rebuild Mosul’s multicultural identity and combat radicalism. "It’s an opportunity and it’s just the right time to do it because if you talked to any Mosulawi about that before (ISIS), nobody would accept it. But now people came out of a radical Moslem experience, they are in shock," he said. "Either we do it this year and we use this opportunity or else we lose it forever. We have a very narrow window."

U.S. pledges extra $140 mln to Lebanon for Syrian refugees
[AlAhram] The United States will give Leb an extra $140 million to help Syrian refugees and the communities hosting them, the State Department said during a U.S. state visit by Leb's Prime Minister.

Leb is hosting at least 1.5 million Syrian refugees who have fled the more than six-year conflict there and who now make up about a quarter of the country's population.

The latest grant means the United States has given Leb more than $1.5 billion in humanitarian assistance since the start of the conflict in 2012, the State Department said.

In its 2017-2010 Crisis Response Plan, the Lebanese government said it needed $2.8 billion to address the challenges of hosting refugees.

The U.S. money will be used for food, shelter and medical assistance for Syrian refugees and Lebanese host communities. It will also support water and wastewater infrastructure projects, the State Department said in a statement.

Justice and Construction Party rejects France-sponsored meeting of Fayaz Sirraj and Khalifa Haftar
[Libya Observer] Justice and Construction Party, one of Libyan Political Agreement signatories, has rejected the outcome of Gay Paree meeting between the head of UN-installed Presidential Council Fayaz al-Sirraj and chief of Dignity Operation Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
In a statement shortly after the meeting, which was brokered by French President Emmanuel Macro, the party said any amendments to the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat, Morocco, must be done according to terms of the agreement and under the umbrella of the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
"Holding meetings under the auspices of individual states is a deviation from the political track of the political agreement and a mix-up of it. Such meetings open the way for the agendas of those states to favor one side over the other and to deepen the division and crisis", read the statement, adding that "some countries are the problem and not the solution".

The party indicated that the Presidential Council, House of Representatives and the High Council of State derive their legitimacy from the Libyan Political Agreement and they can only act in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

Lethal 3-drug combo does the trick, Ohio child killer Ronald Phillips no longer with us
LUCASVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- A child killer was put to death with no apparent complications Wednesday in Ohio’s first execution since a problem-plagued one 3½ years ago triggered an uproar over the reliability of the lethal injection drugs used by the state.

Ronald Phillips, 43, was condemned to die for the 1993 rape and slaying of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter, Sheila Marie Evans. He was given a three-drug combination never used in Ohio before.

As he lay on the execution table, he apologized to the child’s aunt and half-sister, who were there to watch him die for his crimes.

"I know that Sheila Marie didn’t deserve what I did to her," he said.

Donna Hudson, the victim’s aunt, said: "God forgave him, but, I’m sorry, I don’t think I can."

Gambia's Barrow does not rule out Jammeh’s extradition
[AA.TR] Gambia
... The Gambia is actually surrounded by Senegal on all sides but its west coast. It has a population of about 1.7 million. The difference between the two is that in colonial days Senegal was ruled by La Belle France and The Gambia (so-called because there's only one of it, unlike Guinea, of which there are the Republic of Guinea, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, New Guinea, the English coin in circulation between 1663 and 1813, and Guyana, which sounds like it should be another one) was ruled by Britain...
’s new president Adama Barrow has told Anadolu Agency that his government will not hesitate to seek the extradition of the country’s former autocratic ruler Yahya Jammeh.

Jammeh, former military ruler who governed the small nation with an iron fist from 1994 to 2016, has been accused by right groups and opponents of widespread killings and torture during his reign.

"Every atrocity and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
abuse in the past 22 years will be investigated and people who are responsible will be prosecuted. We will not compromise that without any doubt," Barrow said in an interview with Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.

About two months ago, Gambia’s High Court issued an arrest warrant for over a dozen former soldiers believed to be part of Jammeh’s hit squad but their extradition from Guinea Bissau and Mauritania, where they are reportedly based, has not yet been secured.

"We will not hesitate to do that [seek Jammeh’s extradition] but we will have to wait for the due process," he said. "We have to get the facts first. That is why getting those people [soldiers] back in this country will help in that process.

"That is why we are in contact with neighboring countries so that we can get those people and have firsthand information."

Despite promises for justice after the fall of Jammeh, Barrow’s administration is yet to secure any successful prosecution.

60 to face mass 'terrorism' trial in Bahrain
[DAWN] Bahrain, on Wednesday, charged 60 people with forming a "terrorist group", with a judicial source saying all 60 are Shiites, as authorities tighten their grip on dissent in the Sunni-ruled kingdom.

The 60 face a mass trial, scheduled to open on August 22, for charges including "forming a terrorist group, training in the use of weapons and explosives with the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks and the deliberate killing of coppers", public prosecutor Ahmad al-Hamadi said.

Thirteen of the defendants have "fled to Iran, Iraq and Germany" and will be tried in absentia, state news agency BNA reported.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a judicial source told AFP that all 60 of those charged were Shiite Moslems.

Another execution video seems to show the murder of 20 bound captives by an LNA unit
[Libya Herald] A new execution video has emerged in which 20 captives in Guantanamo-style orange jump suits are seen to be bumped off by masked men under the orders of a man who appears to be Mahmoud Warfali, a controversial Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
commander in the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The footage comes in two parts. In the first, 18 hooded men in orange jumpsuits arranged into four lines can be seen kneeling in a sandy area. The man resembling Warfali stands to the side and orders five of his men, some in balaclavas, to stand behind the captives. On his command they then shoot their victims in the head, thereafter firing into their bodies. When it comes to the second row, the gunman closest the camera is still firing when the others have ceased and he then forgets to copy them by turning smartly on their heels and marching out of camera. Another set of killers in then ordered up.

The man who looks like Warfali, clutching some sort of white paper document which he has been consulting, then walks up with two other gunnies. They shoot the last three in the head. The commander uses his left hand to fire his pistol. Warfali is left-handed and in past videos in which he has been identified by UN human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
Sherlocks, he fires weapons with that hand.

The video then cuts to another two gunnies kneeling in the sand, their faces covered and again wearing orange jumpsuits. Bizarrely, the theme tune for The Pirates of the Caribbean film plays in the background while they are shot.

This is the fifth execution video in which Warfali has seemingly appeared, though the first in which the victims were dressed in orange jumpsuits. But there is something odd about the footage. One of the victims nearest the camera in the penultimate row first falls on his head when he is shot and then topples to his left, revealing a spreading pool of blood in the sand. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
it is not obvious that the other victims were also bleeding after they have slumped forward. At the same time, with each of the many rounds fired there is a clear impact in the sand in front of the kneeling men.

In May, Warfali offered his resignation after the publication of the first three videos in which he was widely identified. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
this it was rejected by Saiqa Special Forces commander Wanis Bukhamada who instead promoted him from captain to major.

Last week the UN called for Warfali to be suspended while the LNA carries out the investigation into the footage which the LNA says it has mounted. The LNA’s response to the UN call was to say that every solider was innocent until it found him guilty.

Human Rights Watch today demanded an immediate investigation into the latest footage. "This latest mass execution, if confirmed, would be one more in a string of atrocities committed by members of the Libyan National Army forces and is yet another manifestation of how its members are taking the law into their own hands," Eric Goldstein, Middle East and North Africa deputy director for Human Rights Watch told Rooters.

US politician Wasserman Schultz fires Pakistani-origin IT staffer arrested for fraud
[DAWN] United States (US) Democratic Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz

fired a Pak-origin information technology (IT) staffer following his arrest on a bank fraud charge at a Virginia airport where he was attempting to fly to Lahore.

Wasserman Schultz front man David Damron said Imran Awan was fired by the Florida politician on Tuesday.

Awan's attorney, Chris Gowen, confirmed that his client was nabbed
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
at Dulles Airport on Monday. He said Awan was cleared to travel and had informed the House of his plans to visit his family before the scheduled trip.

The 37-year-old Awan of Lorton, Virginia, was arraigned Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia on one count of bank fraud.

He pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
and was released pursuant to a high-intensity supervision program, including the restriction that he not travel beyond a 50-mile radius of his home, according to the court.

An affidavit filed with the criminal complaint states there is probable cause to believe that Awan and his wife, Hina Alvi, engaged in a scheme to defraud Congressional Federal Credit Union based on misrepresentations made to obtain a loan.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent Brandon Merriman said in the affidavit that the misrepresentations revolved around written assurances that the home serving as collateral for the loan was a "principal residence".

Kenya steps up the fight against Al Shabaab before its Elections
[SHABELLENEWS] Against the backdrop of untainted white beaches on the Indian Ocean and the regal beach houses here that mix Omani, Indian, and Swahili architecture, live mortars arched across the Kenyan night skies.

Unsuspecting tourists could have mistaken them for shooting stars. But they kept on coming. One after another, like fireworks.

This was another naval exercise by the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) conducted earlier this month, on the night of July 9, at the start of the tourist season on Lamu Island--and just weeks before Kenya’s elections.

The show of force went on for an hour, alternating between live mortars and storms of gunshots as a response to the brutal and indiscriminate beheadings and killings of innocent civilians by al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
, an al Qaeda affiliate in nearby Somalia, just a few days earlier.

Lamu and neighboring islands are a part of the Swahili Coast facing the Indian Ocean in eastern Kenya. Culturally, the region is distinct from the rest of Kenya, influenced by trade with the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian subcontinent, and even China.

The population descends from five or six original families who have been on the islands for the past 400 years. Most practice Sunni Islam with centuries of Sufi spirituality, historically mainstream Kenyan Islam, with an emphasis on peaceful coexistence with all members of Kenyan society.

Modern-day Lamu County is comprised of two parts: Mainland and the Islands. The major islands are Shela, Lamu Island ("Lamu Town"), and Manda. Tourism, primarily from Europe, makes up most of the economy.

Yemen’s army retakes control of camp Khalid from Houthi militias
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi praised the national army's victory for achieving full control over Khalid ibn al-Walid strategic camp west of Taiz, Yemen News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The control of Khalid camp came after a violent attack, supported by intensive air raids led by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and with the participation of Apache helicopters.

The camp acquired its strategic importance from both the military and the tactical standpoint.

Camp Khalid ibn al-Walid is approximately 12 square kilometers. It is located at Mukha junction west of Taiz and at the crossroads between the provinces of Taiz and Hudaydah in the west of Yemen.

It is one of the most important camps and the most powerful fortifications under the control of the coupists. The collapse of the Khalid camp in the hands of the legitimate Yemeni government will lead to the liberation of strategic holy warrior fronts in Taiz according to experts.

The camp is 60 kilometers away from Taiz and 40 kilometers from the city of al-Mukha. It is the second line of defense from Mukha coast and the vital and important targets in the city.

The first line of defense on the main road and strategic link between the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah, according to the official front man for the leadership of the axis of Taiz, Colonel Mansour al-Hassani.

Al-Hassani pointed out that Khalid's camp is strategically important for being at the crossroads of two important roads: Taiz al-Hodeidah and Taiz al-Mukha to Khukha.

Colonel al-Hassani said that the camp is also located close to the Bab al-Mandab international passageway, and exemplifies the depth of the military axis in Taiz to defend Bab al-Mandab.

As for the tactical importance of the camp, al-Hassani says it is located in an area of several coastal districts west of Taiz.
The coup militias have benefited from this advantage, reinforcing all coastal fighting fronts from this camp.

According to Colonel al-Hassani the last stronghold for the coup militias is in the west of Taiz, which is now being seized and controlled by the national army.

Yemeni Army Advances on Several Fronts in Taiz, Besieges Saadah

Jeddah, Taiz – The Yemeni National Army is besieging the Houthi stronghold Sadaah as 12 brigades were preparing to liberate the region, revealed Major General Amin al-Waeli, commander of the 6th Military Brigade of the national army.

Waeli explained to Asharq al-Awsat that the army advanced on the city from the north, east and west, leaving the militias with only an outlet in the south. The army is tackling the situation in the south in order to cut off supply routes to the militants. He stressed that the Ansar Allah group are not welcome in Saadah, which is facilitating the military’s mission of cleansing the city of militias.

He said that preliminary investigations with militants confirmed the participation of experts from Iran, Iraq and Lebanese “Hezbollah” commanders. He added that the experts resided in Sana’a and Saadah, but he did not reveal whether they were currently directing the battle in Saadah.

The military commander pointed out that the Yemeni army advanced on all fronts overlooking the 6th military district. In addition, insurgents received military reinforcements from the republican guard, but the army was able to cut them off, which greatly affected the morale of the militias and forced them to retreat from some areas.

The national army has devised several plans that are being executed. He revealed that these plans can be altered in order to confuse the insurgents and they can also be carried out in various locations and in any direction, explaining that the army is awaiting reinforcements and support from the higher leadership which is gradually arriving to the 6th district.

On the militias’ arms smuggling, Waeli said that the rate of these operations has dropped, but the insurgents still receive military support from Sana’a. The army is dealing with the smuggling in all possible means in order to neutralize the effect of the weapons, he stressed.

Meanwhile, legitimate forces advanced on several fronts on Yemen’s west coast, amid fierce clashes between the national army and the remaining insurgents, said field commander in the popular resistance Ayman Jarmash.

He pointed out that militias planted dozens of landmines prior to fleeing the region, which is hindering the army’s advance on the Khalid bin Walid military camp.

Liberating the camp means that reinforcements will be cut off to militias in Taiz, explained Jarmash, who added that regaining control over military camps will speed up the liberation of the Hodeidah port city.

In addition, national army forces launched a surprise attack against the remaining militia positions on the Kadha front of al-Maafer, west of Taiz. This was met with an insurgent escalation where they heavily bombed its western and eastern neighborhoods, injuring several civilians, including two children.

Military sources on the Taiz front told Asharq Al-Awsat that units of the 35th armored brigade liberated several areas in the region. Sources added that the clashes continued as the army, backed by coalition forces, made further advances.

In Shabwah, clashes renewed on Osailan front after militants tried to infiltrate national army positions, but the legitimate forces repelled them and forced their retreat.

The Baydah district also witnessed several clashes as militias bombed al-Quraysheyyah and Ould al-Rabieh districts, killing and injuring several civilians and displacing dozens.

In related news, Minister of Local Administration and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief Abdul-Raqib Fateh inaugurated a project in Taiz to distribute food aid from the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief with the support by King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid.

Fateh said that this is another part of the King Salman Center’s support with the distribution of a total of 12,000 food baskets to people besieged in Taiz. He added that the war waged by Houthi and Saleh militias created a real humanitarian tragedy.

He described the King Salman Center as a relief beacon, aiming to help all Yemenis and alleviate their suffering with over 135 relief aid programs executed throughout the country. He also mentioned that Emirates Red Crescent and Kuwaiti Relief Committee helped Yemen in its difficult times.

Head of office of King Salman Center in Aden Saleh al-Thaybani said that the center is inaugurating the project to distribute 12,000 food baskets in Taiz as part of its relief programs.

10 dead in Boko Haram ambush on oil exploration team: Army
[AlAhrqm] Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamists killed 10 people in an ambush on an oil exploration team in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, the army said Wednesday.

"Suspected Boko Haram forces of Evil ambushed the escort and team of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) staff returning from oil exploration" in the Magumeri area of Borno state on Tuesday afternoon, said army front man Sani Usman in a statement.

"So far, they have rescued all the NNPC staff and recovered the corpses of the officer, eight soldiers and a civilian who have been evacuated to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital," Usman said.

"The troops are not relenting in the pursuit, search and rescue effort."

Initially, it was believed that Boko Haram had kidnapped the 10 oil workers, who had been contracted to carry out research work on oil exploration activities in the Lake Chad basin.

But the latest information appears to show that Boko Haram launched an ambush, resulting in a pitched battle between Nigerian security forces and the jihadists.

Exploration has started in Nigeria's inland basins, ranging from central Benue state to Boko Haram's heartland in the northeast.

But insecurity caused by the eight-year Islamist insurgency has disrupted work.

Soldier wounded in IED attack in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A Soldier was injured as an IED targeted an army patrol at a liberated village, northeast of Diyala, a local source from the province was quoted saying.

“A bomb, placed on the side of an agricultural road at the outskirts of Rabei’a village, near al-Saadiya town, northeast of Baqubah, exploded on Wednesday morning, targeting an army patrol,” the source told AlSumaria News, adding that a soldier was wounded.

“Security troops cordoned off the blast spot and started combing the region,” the source, who preferred anonymity, said.

Attacks launched by Islamic State militants against security troops, the pro-government forces and civilians surged over the past few weeks in northeast of Diyala, which urge the Iraqi forces to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

Wounded Warrior Just Explained Trump's Transgender Ban In One Incredible Tweet Thread
[Red State] After the news of Trump’s transgender ban in the military, the internet unsurprisingly exploded into yet another fit of rage.

I guess the millions of people who were about to drop dead where they stood because Congress will now debate Obamacare repeal aren’t an issue anymore.

Squirrel!

J.R. Salzman is a writer, wounded warrior and a veteran who has served in Iraq and he took the time Wednesday morning to share his own thoughts on the ban and life in the military. It immediately began to go viral, with Salzman eventually telling folks not to expect any more responses to the thousands of replies he’s been receiving since he first posted.

Salzman laid out a passionate and logical defense of Trump’s ban. Do you agree with him? Disagree? Drop your thoughts in the comments section...

...and thank you Mr. Salzman for your service.

#4  By estimates there are nearly 700,000 transgender individuals in the U.S., or 0.3% of the adult population. Suppose the figure is accurate. Estimates of the percentage of the population who serve in the military is less than 1.0% of the population. 0.3% of less than 1.0% is a very small percentage of the population--what is it, less than 0.003% or <3 out of 100,000 population? There is a whole lot of attention being given to a very small issue.

Consider also the cost of transgender surgery. Should the taxpayers foot the bill for people in the military who want to have this surgery? I don't think it is discrimination of a minority group because people don't want to foot the bill. Moreover, the military should not be a vehicle for every social engineering notion the Progressives might have.

It would seem that one could have a reasonable debate about this issue without being assaulted by PC crap that cuts off any debate. It would also seem that the rights of transgenders can be protected by the basics of the Constitution. I suppose those on the left have different notions about what basic rights are provided by the Constitution.

Nasrallah says Arsal operation decided solely by Hezbollah
[Iran Press TV] The secretary general of Leb’s resistance movement Hezbollah His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
says a recent military operation by the group against forces of Evil in the Syria-Leb border region, which resulted in significant victories for the Lebanese forces, was solely an internal issue and no other party outside Leb was involved in the case.

"The Arsal operation was solely decided by Hezbollah," Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Wednesday, making a reference to the Lebanese border town, which was the epicenter of an anti-terror fight on the Syria-Leb border over the past week.

Elaborating on the significance of the operation, Nasrallah said the area that straddles the Lebanese-Syrian border was known for its harsh geographical features, saying Hezbollah forces and allies in the Lebanese and Syrian army made a great achievement by liberating key positions from the murderous Moslems.
