Trump Slams Blumenthal as 'Phony Vietnam Con Artist'
[Townhall] President Trump slammed Sen. Richard Blumenthal Monday on Twitter for lying about serving in Vietnam, calling him a "phony Vietnam con artist."

The comment came after Blumenthal expressed his concern that the president is trying to "politicize" the Justice Department.

"Interesting to watch Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut talking about hoax Russian collusion when he was a phony Vietnam con artist!" Trump tweeted.

"Never in U.S. history has anyone lied or defrauded voters like Senator Richard Blumenthal," he added. "He told stories about his Vietnam battles and conquests, how brave he was, and it was all a lie."

"He cried like a baby and begged for forgiveness like a child," Trump continued. "Now he judges collusion?"

This is not the first time Trump has gone after Blumenthal for falsely claiming he served in Vietnam, when in reality he received five military deferments. He brought up Blumenthal’s Vietnam "record" in February, after the senator told reporters then-Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch called the president’s attacks on federal judges "demoralizing." He also called for an investigation into the Connecticut senator in May after he criticized Trump’s firing of then-FBI Director James Comey.

Blumenthal said Monday on CNN’s "New Day" that he was "concerned" the president is "weaponizing...laws" after the crackdown of leaks was announced.

Trump calls Richard "Dick" Blumenthal a ‘phony Vietnam con artist'
President Trump lashed out at Sen. Richard "Dick" Blumenthal (D-Liar) in a tweetstorm on Monday, calling the Democrat a "phony Vietnam con artist!"

"Interesting to watch Senator Richard "Dick" Blumenthal of Connecticut talking about hoax Russian collusion when he was a phony Vietnam con artist!," Trump wrote on Twitter.

The president, who's on a working vacation at his resort in Bedminster, N.J., said "never in US history has anyone lied or defrauded voters" like Blumenthal.
a bit of hyperbole. See: Jahn Karry
"He told stories about his Vietnam battles and conquests, how brave he was, and it was all a lie. He cried like a baby and begged for forgiveness like a child. Now he judges collusion?" Trump wrote.

Blumenthal had said he served "in" Vietnam. But the New York Times revealed that he had received military deferments.

He did serve in the Marine Corps Reserve in the 1970s and in 010, he clarified that he served "during" the Vietnam War.
"The meaning of 'in'?"
Trump also received five military deferments during the Vietnam War – four while he was in college and one for bone spurs in his feet.

Responding on Twitter, Blumenthal said he won't be bullied.

Iraq
Janus Global Operations Tasked To Clear Parts Of Mosul
[Feral Jundi] Man, this is a story that is not getting the attention it needs, but is very much significant to the war effort. Janus Global is being tasked with clearing the thousands of IEDs and explosive remnants of the battle in Mosul. In the words of a US government official in reference to Mosul, it is ’like nothing we’ve encountered’.

Clearing Mosul will take in some estimates, up to ten years! Not only that, but think about the other areas that ISIS had control over in Iraq or even Syria. Weapons removal and abatement will keep this company and others like it, busy for a long time....

As to the particulars of these contracts, I have no idea if the contractors doing the clearing are using an organic security force or partnering with the host nation forces or subcontracting security. For the CMC projects during the Iraq war, security was a huge deal and it was done internally and contracted out, along with partnering with local security companies. Quite a few security contractors cycled through those projects back then and it was extremely successful in cleaning up old Ammunition Supply Points that were destroyed in the war.

I should note that this has been an incredibly dangerous assignment for this company. Last year, a Janus Global contractor was killed clearing munitions in Ramadi and I don’t think this will be the last. Good job to the company and I wish everyone good luck as they clear these battlefields. ‐Matt

De Blasio wants to tax the rich to pay for subway repairs
[NYPost] He said the subways weren't his responsibility, but Mayor de Blasio now wants to tax wealthy New Yorkers to pay for everything from emergency rail repairs to low-cost bus and train rides for the poor.

De Blasio on Sunday unveiled an election-year pitch to raise $800 million a year for mass transit by soaking the rich with a nearly 14 percent tax increase on high-income Big Apple residents.

The proposed city income-tax hike would raise the rate for individuals making more than $500,000 and married couples earning over $1 million from 3.876 percent to 4.41 percent.

Hizzoner wants to earmark the bulk of the new cash to fix the decrepit subways and upgrade the bus system.

About $250 million would be used to subsidize half-price MetroCards for about 800,000 New Yorkers living in poverty.

"The top 1 percent can afford to do a bit more ‐ and should, because a transit system that works makes New York City's economy strong and benefits us all," according to a City Hall press release on the plan.

The tax hike would amount to an additional $2,700 levy on an individual earning $1 million a year, and an additional $8,000 on an individual earning $2 million, according to City Hall.

The proposed increase ‐ which would require the approval of the state legislature and mayoral nemesis Gov. Cuomo ‐ marks de Blasio's second attempt at class warfare on behalf of his political base of ultra-liberal Democrats and lower-income residents.

In 2014, Cuomo emphatically rejected de Blasio's campaign pledge to pay for his universal pre-K program by taxing top earners, resulting in lawmakers instead striking a deal that sent $300 million to the city and $40 million to programs elsewhere in the state.

Since taking office in 2015, de Blasio has grown the city budget from $70 million to $85 million ‐ an increase of more than 20 percent. There has been no city income tax hike during that time.

In nearly identical statements Sunday, Cuomo and MTA Chairman Joe Lhota both called on the mayor to "partner with us and match the state funding" for an immediate overhaul plan."

"There's no question we need a long-term funding stream, but emergency train repairs can't wait on what the state legislature may or may not do next year," Lhota added.

The Cuomo administration also responded by floating plans to raise money for mass transit by imposing "congestion pricing" on tolls, an idea de Blasio has rejected.

"We are considering a number of proposals … that include how to introduce different forms of congestion pricing, including potential fees on for-hire vehicles," said a Cuomo official, who noted that the administration has been testing out "reverse congestion pricing" by cutting truck tolls in half at night.

State Sen. Marty Golden (R-Brooklyn) said the tax plan had little chance in the GOP-led chamber.

"If anything, the Senate will look to repeal taxes," Golden said. "And I can't see the governor ‐ especially coming into an election year ‐ looking to raise taxes on anyone."

Cuomo has declared his intention to seek re-election in 2018, ahead of what many political observers expect will be a 2020 bid for the White House.

The head of the Partnership for New York City business group also blasted de Blasio's proposal, saying the mayor was "prepared to throw the city's high earners under the bus."

"If the mayor's tax proposal were to be enacted, New York would be about even with California in imposing the highest income taxes in the country," Kathryn Wylde said.

"This is simply not a sustainable situation if we expect the city to attract top talent and business investment, particularly with the pending threat of federal tax reform that may eliminate deductions for state and local taxes."

#1  The mayor’s salary will jump 15 percent, from $225,000 to $258,750, although de Blasio said he would not accept the raise unless elected to a second term in two years.

Council members will get a 23 percent boost from $112,500 to $138,315.

However, Mark-Viverito will be getting a 37 percent raise to $154,375 based on what the commission described as her “unique and important responsibilities.”

A Google Employee's Awesome ‘Anti-Diversity Screed'
h/t Instapundit
...The author claims that Google’s diversity efforts are coming up short because the company misdiagnoses the problems that lead to a gender gap in tech. Discrimination may be part of it, but it is also true that men and women differ, on average, in ways that might affect their representation in the field (and indeed in different departments within Google). To wit: Men are more likely than women to find it rewarding to work with things rather than people; men are more aggressive and status-seeking than women and thus more likely to climb the corporate ladder and ask for raises; women rate higher on other psychological traits such as anxiety. These differences are all well-documented and will not shock anyone familiar with the research on them. And while there’s some debate about the extent to which these gaps are cultural instead of biological, there’s good evidence that biology does play a role at least some of the time. As the memo’s author writes, gaps like these are found across cultures, and for some of them we’ve identified specific biological underpinnings such as testosterone.
IMO, the biggest problem with "affirmative action" that they don't

#1  Coding is one of those activities where the difference between good, average and poor is very large. I recall the best coders are 6 times more productive than the average, and I am willing to bet they are disproportionately men.

Anyway, it is an issue of fact. Men are either better coders on average or they are not. Any and all opinions on the subject are irrelevant.

The left likes people like you, it lets them off the hook for the way they've run society, in particular the whole k-12 education system being fucked up in such a way as to disproportionately affect women and minorities.

The McMaster Turmoil
h/t Instapundit
H.R. McMaster, currently under attack from conservative critics, is best known for writing a book about the Vietnam War in which he put the blame primarily on the Johnson administration officials, but also excoriated military leaders for failing to challenge policies they knew, or should have known, were misguided. So no one should be surprised that the national security adviser is not inclined to salute and carry out instructions from the Oval Office, but challenges President Trump on matters ranging from personnel decisions to Iran policy.

The two categories are closely linked, since personnel IS policy, and the ongoing purge of NSC officials clearly contains a political dimension, which has been extensively documented. McMaster has recently fired several senior NSC officials--Rich Higgins, Ezra Cohen and Derek Harvey--who reportedly favored a tougher line on Iran than McMaster does. Their replacements come from the CIA, which traditionally has taken a pessimistic view of chances for changing the nature of the Tehran regime.

The political conflict extends well beyond the narrow issue of Iran policy. McMaster has instructed his staff to avoid using the phrase "radical Islamic terrorism," and tried to remove it from the president’s recent speech in Warsaw, Poland (Trump put it back in). According to a recent rumor, the NSC declined to schedule a talk on radical Islamic terrorism by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, one of the country’s most respected authorities, reportedly because one of McMaster’s appointees, Mustafa Javed Ali, accused her of "Islamophobia." McMaster’s predecessor, General Mike Flynn, advocated waging ideological war against "radical Islamists," supporting moderate Muslims, and putting the United States firmly behind Muslim governments, such as Indonesia and Egypt, that fought the jihadis. McMaster does not agree.
Could be that Trump's sojourn in New York Military Academy left him with a bit of inferiority complex toward military men - and that impairs his judgment?

Africa Subsaharan
Suicide attack in Cameroon kills eight: Officials
[AlAhram] A suicide kaboom in the far north of Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
killed eight people, local officials and security sources said Sunday.

The attack happened on Saturday evening at the village of Ouro-Kessoum, two kilometres from the Nigerian border, said the head of a local security committee who asked to remain anonymous.

"There were eight killed and four maimed," in addition to the jacket wallah, he added

The attack and the toll were both confirmed to AFP by a security source in the region. The injured had been evacuated to Mora, the district capital, the source added.

The village lies in a region where Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
jihadists carry out frequent attacks, to the point that some local villages have emptied of their residents.

In mid-July a double suicide kaboom killed 15 people in the town of Wasa, slightly further north and near the border with Nigeria.

The attack was part of a surge of Islamist murderous Moslem violence in the region in recent weeks.

Egypt’s counterterrorism operation 'Martyr’s Right' continues in North Sinai
[AlAhram] On 16 July, the Egyptian Armed Forces launched the fourth phase of Operation Martyr's Right, which aims to counter holy warrior and terrorist activity in Sinai, 10 days after 26 Egyptian security personnel were killed in an attack in North Sinai’s Rafah city.

During the fourth stage of the operation, the army said that its forces killed 40 Lions of Islam involved in the 7 July attack.

Army spokesperson Tamer El-Rifaai said that between 17 July and 6 August, the Armed Forces killed 48 Lions of Islam and jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
20 suspects believed to have provided logistical support for those who carried out the attack.

Prior to launching the fourth stage of Martyr’s Right, the army conducted four operations that resulted in the destruction of 50 4x4 vehicles, 85 cycle of violences, a fuel warehouse, one fuel tanker, 63 holy warrior hideouts and 11 manufacturing workshops.

The military spokesperson has revealed that the current phase of operations involves areas covered by the second and third field armies.

Earlier phases of Martyr’s Right have mostly been restricted to the areas of Rafah, Sheikh Zuweid and El-Arish, which are the deployment site of the second field army. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
a number of operations have extended to Central Sinai in the vicinity of Gabal El-Halal.

The current phase of the operation is targeting static hideouts used by Death Eaters as well as dynamic holy warrior targets, infrastructure and reinforcement lines

The fourth phase of the operation also involves targeting holy warriors’ organizational infrastructure and destroying shelters, weapons and ammunition storage facilities, vehicles, IED's, and communication centres.

It also involves arresting those who provide Lions of Islam with logistical support and securing major roads in North Sinai’s Rafah, Sheikh Zuweid, El-Arish and surrounding villages and preventing holy warrior activity from spreading outside these areas, as well as developing counter-tactics to tactics used by holy warriors.

Special units from the army’s counterterrorism forces have also been on the forefront of these operations, while air forces have provided aerial support and conducted recon missions.

The fourth phase of the operation has also witnessed improved capacity by the army to detect and disarm IEDs planted on roadsides to target security personnel.

Military operations have also expanded to include maritime targets, with the army targeting and destroying sea vessel attempting to enter Egyptian territorial waters.

Despite restrictions against 4x4 vehicles entering Sinai, these vehicles are still heavily used in orchestrating car kabooms, which raises a question as to how they are still entering the peninsula.

The arrest of people using cycle of violences to transport money to Lions of Islam reveals that funds are delivered to holy warrior groups using primitive methods.

Smuggling operations and drug trafficking are still taking place on a large scale in Sinai, though the army has been successful in foiling smuggling operations before the contraband reaches Sinai.

Operation Martyr’s Right was first launched in September 2015. Its second and third phases began in January and April 2016.

[AlAhram] La Belle France has seen 271 Islamists murderous Moslems return from war zones in Iraq and Syria and all of them are subject to investigation by public prosecutors, the country's interior minister said in a newspaper interview.

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group ranks in Iraq and Syria, and like other European countries La Belle France has been wrestling with how to handle the flow of so-called returnees.

The number of Islamist murderous Moslems to have returned to La Belle France included 217 adults and 54 minors, with some of them currently in detention, Gerard Collomb said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche.

Asked how many French Islamist murderous Moslems had been killed in Iraq and Syria, Collomb told the Sunday newspaper that it was difficult to corroborate information.

An increasing number of people were being flagged under a preventative monitoring system for radicalised behaviour, with more than 18,500 people reported, he said.

Trump presidency sparks boom in ‘professional cuddling services' industry
[Michelle Malkin] When President Trump said he’s going to be good for business, he wasn’t joking:
This room is called The Love Dome and hosts events including yoga, dance and private parties. Every Wednesday and Saturday night, The Love Dome is host to Cuddle Sanctuary, an organization that leads group cuddle events, professional cuddling and training for professionals. This is one of their group cuddle sanctuaries.

Fun fact: Bill Clinton used to refer to the Oval Office as "The Love Dome," but I digress:
Fei Wyatt, the iPad-toting host, is Cuddle Sanctuary’s Chief People Officer, a professional cuddler and certification program leader and the facilitator for tonight’s cuddle. In an hour’s time, she’ll be chaperoning a room full of strangers spooning each other on the floor.

The elephant in the room during some of these sessions, though, is the current state of the country’s affairs. Since November ‐ and the election of Donald Trump ‐ professional cuddling services have seen a spike in client interest.

Snowflakes melt slower TOGETHER!

Adam Schiff Wants To Meet With Ex-Spy Who Wrote Trump Dossier [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said on Sunday that he wants to meet with former British spy Christopher Steele to review each of the allegations made in the so-called Trump dossier.

In an interview on CNN’s "State of the Union," California Rep. Adam Schiff said that he would be willing to travel to London to meet with Steele, a retired MI6 agent who was hired by a Washington, D.C. opposition firm last June to investigate any Trump ties to Russia.

"We would like to have him come before the committee. If he’s not willing to do that, we would be happy, Mr. Conaway and myself, to go to London to sit down with him," Schiff said, referring to Texas Rep. Mike Conaway, the Republican overseeing the committee’s Russia investigation.

"He does have, I think, certainly very relevant information that would assist our investigation. We want to do this certainly in a cooperative way," Schiff said of Steele, who operates the research firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, in London.

Steele was hired last June by opposition research firm Fusion GPS. Founded by former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson, Fusion GPS was investigating Trump on behalf of a political ally of Hillary Clinton’s.

Black Entertainment TeeVee network reports on disparate impact on black teens of minimum wage rise
[American Thinker] A truth that the left seeks to deny made it through the editors at BET television, which ran a website article, and I presume some broadcast segments. The headline and subhead tells the story:

Black Teens Are Fired When the Minimum Wage Rises

Two labor economists report that when the minimum wage increases, Black teens suffer disproportionate dismissals.

I doubt that many AT readers would be surprised at the information that follows, because it makes perfect sense.

I wonder if this study made it through because it reinforces the victim perspective? Ethnicity, in this case, trumps progressive solidarity. But unless I am mistaken, I don’t think BET devotes a lot of attention to the impact of illegal immigration on blacks, which uses the same supply and demand logic. I am not a regular viewer, so I could be wrong, but in general, the black racial grievance industry embraces solidarity over the interests of its own constituents.

Is something changing?

It turned out that musical videos and shows about entertainers getting divorced, being arrested, etc. were the ones that got good ratings. Since they show about 5 times as much of the latter as the former, a lot of blacks have criticized them constantly. BET, instead of folding and doing what would be PC basically kept doing what they were doing and making money.

WaPo Editors Admit ‘Immigrants Do Depress Wages' for U.S. Workers
[Breitbart] The editors of the Washington Post are finally admitting that high levels of legal immigration drive down wages for American workers, as President Donald Trump has asserted.

In an editorial by the Washington Post, the argument that immigration patriots and President Trump have made for some time now that current legal immigration levels ‐ where the U.S. takes in more than one million immigrants in a year ‐ is confirmed by the WaPo editors at the very bottom of the piece.
While fresh immigrants do depress wages for some low-skill and minority workers, as Mr. Trump argued, they act as rocket fuel for the overall economy. By cutting their numbers, Mr. Trump would undercut the nation’s prospects.

Still, the admission that American workers are hurt by current legal immigration levels, the undercutting of U.S. wages for blue-collar workers is not enough for the WaPo editors to oppose mass immigration.

Posted by: Bright Pebbles || 08/07/2017 10:36 Comments || Top||

#3  If existing levels of LEGAL immigration depress wages for low-skill and minority workers, what do the intellectual giants at the WaPo have to say about existing levels of ILLEGAL immigration? Very little, I'm guessing.

Additionally, if unfettered immigration-- both legal and illegal-- is good because it acts "as rocket fuel for the overall economy," then surely the intellectual giants at the WaPo would favor across the board tax cuts for the same reason.
Posted by: eltoroverde || 08/07/2017 10:44 Comments || Top||

#4  Agree but a quick correction. There is no thing as an 'illegal immigrant'. Immigrant status is a legal state granted by the Government and immigrants are, in fact, legal. If you overstay your visa or violate the border you do not become a 'illegal immigrant' but an 'illegal alien'. Its possible to overstay an immigrant visa (for example a K-1 visa where the immigrant does not get married in the timeframe) where you lose your 'immigrant' status (and become 'alien'). And of course if you violate the borders you never had immigrant status.
Of course the left loves to play with words and mix in the illegal aliens with the legal immigrants so they can claim 'we are a nation of immigrants' or 'your against immigration which made us great!' when talking about illegal aliens.
Don't get me started on calling the violation of our borders a 'immigration' issue - it is not. it is a border security issue and the violators should not be given the same rights as 'immigrants'.

One of my Czech au pairs drove her American friends crazy in exactly that way when they were driving across Western Europe. They wanted to eat at all the cozy local restaurants, while she insisted on only MacDonalds until they got to their destination. But she had the advantage of having worked diring her summer vacations a tour guide across the same territory, and had similar stories to tell. Driving with the runs is one thing; leading a tour bus full of the same is quite another level of misery.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kissinger: End of Islamic State Could Lead To ‘Iranian Radical Empire'
[Breitbart] TEL AVIV ‐ If the Islamic State is destroyed, the situation in the Middle East could end up being even more dire with the emergence of an "Iranian radical empire" in its wake, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger warned in an article published by CapX this week.

Kissinger cautioned that in the case of IS and Iran, the old aphorism "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" no longer holds water, since driving out the Sunni terror group would leave a "territorial belt reaching from Tehran to Beirut" that Iranian-trained Shia forces could occupy.
Across large areas of Iraq and Syria, an ideologically radical religious army, Isis, has declared itself a relentless foe of modern civilisation, seeking violently to replace the international system’s multiplicity of states with a single Islamic empire governed by Sharia law. In these circumstances, the traditional adage that the enemy of your enemy can be regarded as your friend no longer applies. In the contemporary Middle East, the enemy of your enemy may also be your enemy. The Middle East affects the world by the volatility of its ideologies as much as by its specific actions.

The outside world’s war with Isis can serve as an illustration. Most non-Isis powers -- including Shia Iran and the leading Sunni states -- agree on the need to destroy it. But which entity is supposed to inherit its territory? A coalition of Sunnis? Or a sphere of influence dominated by Iran? The answer is elusive because Russia and the Nato countries support opposing factions. If the Isis territory is occupied by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards or Shia forces trained and directed by it, the result could be a territorial belt reaching from Tehran to Beirut, which could mark the emergence of an Iranian radical empire.

The 94-year-old former secretary of state has in the past warned that the Middle East will "explode" if the "domination of the region by an Iran that is both imperial and jihadist" is allowed to continue.

NC State admin proposes exclusive housing for 'women of color'
[CampusReform.org] The new Director of Multicultural Student Affairs at North Carolina State University recently pledged to create a segregated housing option for "women of color" only.

Nashia Whittenburg, who was hired by NC State less than a month ago, shared her plans to create the housing option for female minority students in a university news release published Tuesday, adding that she plans to submit an official proposal for the housing option by February 2018.

"The point and purpose is if you are a Latina and you are an engineering major, with a very specific specialization, you may not ever see anybody who looks like you," Whittenburg explained. "But when you come home, here is your opportunity to get some support and to deal with some of the microaggressions you might have had to deal with throughout your entire day when you’ve been at class."

While NC State already has two housing options for racial minorities--one exclusively for black males and another for Native American students--the school does not currently have one for female racial minority students, hence Whittenburg’s proposal.

Executive Director of University Relations Fred Hartman told Campus Reform that NC State has 16 different "living and learning villages" for students, and while he claimed that the applications for each one are "open to any student," he did not answer whether an applicant’s race would factor into admission decisions.

Hartman also declined to explain to Campus Reform how the segregated housing options are funded.

Whittenburg was hired to manage the school’s Multicultural Affairs Office, which plays host to events such as the "Tunnel of Oppression" (an interactive experience of intersectional oppression) and a "Multicultural Graduation Ceremony."

North Korea threatens to ‘end the US’
[THESUN.CO.UK] The B-1 bombers were escorted by South Korean fighter jets as they performed a low-pass over an air base near the South Korean capital of Seoul last month.

But Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
’s media branded the move a "hysteric fit" and warned against such "provocations".

North Korea’s KCNA news agency ranted: "The day the DPRK is provoked means the end of the US."

Earlier this week, government-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun declared Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
was sitting on the "knife edge of life and death" and that he should brace himself for "gift packages" from Kim.

An editorial said: "Every minute and every second, the new reality that US mainland is on the knife’s edge of life and death is forcing US administration to wave a white flag and fundamentally change her North Korea policy.

"If the US still refuses to accept such a realistic demand and doggedly pursue hostile policy against North Korea in order to save face, she will receive unexpected ’gift packages’ which we will continue to send."

It is believed the so-called "gift packages" are nuclear missiles.

A statement by NDS said the explosives were of Ammonium Nitrate type which are mainly used in suicide kabooms and making of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) for the roadside kaboomings.

The anti-government armed myrmidon groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

This is not the first time the Afghan cops have seized explosives or Ammonium Nitrate being exported from Pakistain but on numerous other occasions thousands of kilograms of explosives have been discovered and seized in similar operations.

Forensic teams exhuming more remains at mass graves in Iraq’s Tikrit

ISIS snuffies at the Speicher air force camp in the north-central province of Salahuddin.

"So far, we handed 550 bodies to their families, 200 of them are now subject for DNA testing. 150 victims were discovered two weeks ago and we are expecting to find more. I would say the total number of victims will exceed 1,000," said Moeen al-Kadhimi, a senior commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashd al-Sha’abi in Arabic.

On June 12, 2014, ISIS snuffies killed about 1,700 Iraqi air force cadets after kidnapping them from Speicher camp, a former US base, situated on the outskirts of the placid provincial capital Tikrit, the hometown of Iraq’s former dictator Saddam Hussein. There were reportedly about 4,000 unarmed cadets in the camp when it came under attack by the holy warriors.

Shortly afterward, the attackers took the victims to the complex of presidential palaces and killed them. The snuffies also threw some of the bodies into the river. The massacre was filmed by ISIS and broadcast on social media, showing the hostages as they were mostly lined up in various locations and slaughtered.

The horrific mass killing incident sparked outrage across the Arab country and partially fueled the mobilization of the PMU.

Tikrit was recaptured from ISIS in March 2015. During clean-up operations in the northern part of the city, Iraqi forces found the location of the 2014 carnage.

Judicial Watch Warns Calif. to Clean Voter Registration Lists
[OANN] Watchdog group Judicial Watch sends a warning to the Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, state government telling it to clean up its voter rolls or face a lawsuit.

The group sent a notice-of-violation letter to the state earlier this week saying data shows eleven counties have more registered voters than actual voting-age citizens.

In Los Angeles County alone, the total number of registered voters stands at 144% of the total number of residents of legal voting age.

The state must now purge the rolls of any deceased registrants and any non-citizen who is registered to vote.

Al-Shabaab releases video of Kenya soldier’s execution
[SHABELLENEWS] The al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
has released a video showing the execution of a captive Kenyan soldier in what is called an attempt to influence Kenya’s presidential election on Tuesday.

The SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors bad boy organizations, says al-Shabaab released the video showing the killing of Leonard Maingi Kiiyo on Saturday.

The bad boy group is based in neighboring Somalia and has carried out dozens of attacks inside Kenya, including in recent weeks. al-Shabaab has called it retribution for Kenya sending troops to Somalia to fight the group.

Kiiyo was seized by al-Shabaab in Somalia in January 2016. In the video he blames Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government for his death.

SHC CJ suspends Umerkot court official for involvement in torture of health officials
[DAWN] UMERKOT: The Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court has suspended superintendent of district and sessions court Umerkot Akbar Ali Rahimoon, and assured a group lawyers that an impartial inquiry against the rest of persons, including district and sessions judge, involved in alledged humiliation and torture of healthcare officials on court premises would be conducted.

Poonjo Mal Bheel, president of Umerkot District Bar Association, told Dawn on phone that SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh met a delegation of lawyers, including himself, member of the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) Sher Mohammad Wassan, SBC vice president Qurban Malano and Jai Dev Sharma at his office in Bloody Karachi

on Saturday and assured them that an impartial inquiry would be launched into the incident.

Two women health officials -- a doctor and a lady health visitor -- were apparently roughed up a few days ago by police in Umerkot when they refused to visit a judge’s home to treat his son.

The CJ also suspended superintendent of district court Mr Rahimoon and vowed that justice would be served to the victimised women, said Mr Poonjo quoting the chief justice.

He said that they also requested the chief justice to appoint an SHC judge to carry out an impartial inquiry against all the persons involved in the incident, including the district and sessions judge, under whose directions it took place.

He said: "It is the worst act in the history of judiciary that innocent women were brought to court through police, and subjected to humiliation, abuse and torture in the courtroom which is paradoxically the place where justice is administered. The sessions judge involved in this crime against health officials has been running the judiciary like his personal fiefdom".

Syria calls for dissolution of US-led coalition
[Iran Press TV] Syria has reiterated its calls for the dissolving of the US-led coalition over its "continued and systematic massacre" of civilians.

"Syria renews its call to immediately dissolve the coalition which was established outside the framework of the UN and without requesting permission from the Syrian government," said Syria’s Foreign Ministry in two letters sent to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the chairman of the UNSC on Sunday.

The letters stressed that the coalition’s continued destruction of residential neighborhoods and the use of phosphorus munitions are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian laws.

They further called on the UNSC to carry out its responsibility of preserving international peace and security, and urged all states to abide by the UNSC resolutions, especially resolution No. 2253.

UNSC Resolution 2253, adopted unanimously in December 2015, covers asset freeze, travel ban, arms embargo and listing criteria for ISIS, al-Qaeda bandidos forces of Evil and "associated individuals, groups, undertaking and entities."

Egypt's military destroys smuggling tunnel on North Sinai border: Army spokesman
[AlAhram] Egypt's army has destroyed a major illegal tunnel crossing the Egyptian border in North Sinai, a military front man said in a statement on Sunday.

Security forces killed two "very dangerous" turbans in the raid on the tunnel, with two 4x4 vehicles also destroyed, according to the statement.

The army said it discovered the tunnel while carrying out operations to stem Islamist insurgency operations in North Sinai ‐ an insurgency that has killed hundreds of police and army personnel in recent years.

Since 2011, Egypt's military has been destroying illegal tunnels running from North Sinai to Gazoo, with the aim of halting the smuggling of weapons and ammunition to krazed killers.

North Sinai has borders with both Gazoo and Israel.

In October 2014, Egypt said it destroyed a total of 1,813 tunnels used for weapons smugging. The army continues to periodically discover tunnels and destroy them.

In July 2015, the Egyptian cabinet issued a decree banning 4x4 vehicles in those parts of North Sinai designated by the military as areas of ongoing anti-insurgency operations.

Ethiopian troops to help Somali Govt retake town from Al-Shabaab
[SHABELLENEWS] Æthiopian forces are to be deployed to help retake a town in Somalia after holy warrior group al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
captured it on Friday.

A Voice of America journalist who covers the Horn of Africa region, Harun Maruf, said the Æthiopian contingent that arrived in the city of Baidoa are to be tasked with retaking the town of Leego.

Leego, a strategic town linking the Somali capital, Mogadishu and the town of Baidoa was captured by al-Shabaab after the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
and Somali forces left.

It is unclear why they left the town. Retaking the town is important in order to reopen the road to the capital.

Æthiopia, seen as a key security player in the Horn of Africa region has troops fighting the hard boyz in next door Somalia. Kenya also has troops in Somalia, they have, however, suffered the brunt of the hard boyz who continue to carry out attacks on Kenyan soil.

Reports also indicated that the 40 Æthiopian troops had a hard time making it to Baidoa as a result of al-Shabaab ambushes along the road from the town of Waajid. Æthiopia years back was at the heart of pushing the hard boyz out of Mogadishu.

In the wake of spreading anti-government protests last year, Æthiopia withdrew some of its forces from Somalia ‐ ostensibly to beef up the security situation back home.

Addis Ababa denied any connection but an al-Shabaab leader stressed that as a reason ‐ the hard boyz almost immediately retook towns where these pullouts were made.

Venezuelans watch the military for signs of fraying loyalty
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] As Venezuela's political crisis spins further out of control, many are looking to the military to see if its once-unflinching loyalty to the socialist revolution might be fraying.

On Sunday morning, Venezuelans awoke to news that a small group of gunnies tried to take over a major military base in the central city of Valencia after a long-mutinous national guard captain appeared in a video calling for rebellion.

The government said what it described as a "terrorist attack" led mostly by civilians dressed in fatigues and deserted officers, not active troops, was quickly put down and seven people were incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
. It wasn't clear how much support existed for the so-called "Operation David," but dozens of civilians startled by the sound of gunfire poured into the streets singing Venezuela's national anthem to back the rebels.

Many people wonder whether the tension-filled incident could foreshadow a bigger uprising to come from a military with a long history of rebellion and whose troops - like many Venezuelans - are increasingly caught up in the nation's economic and political crisis.

Analysts say that such a scenario is unlikely for now

#1  ...Yeah, it's not going to be a handful of guys announcing they're overthrowing Maduro, though I could be underestimating the effects of machismo on a platoon of grunts. It's going to be big, it's going to hit hard, and it's going to be over fast. Problem at this point is that ALL of the military leadership there is bound to Chavez' memory and Maduro pretty much personally. They won't pull the trigger until they feel threatened personally, and sadly there's a loooooong way to go before that happens.

Four dead, eight injured as soldier opens fire on Iran military base
[DAWN] At least four soldiers were killed and eight injured when one of their colleagues opened fire on a military air base in southern Tehran on Sunday, the Iranian military said in a statement.

The incident was "probably related to lunacy psychological problems of the soldier who suddenly started firing on his comrades," the statement said. It took place on a shooting range, and could also have been the result of a gun misfiring, the statement added.

"The injured were transported to a medical centre and an investigation has been opened," it said.

Taliban kill 30 villagers in Afghanistan's Sari Pul province
[DAWN] An Afghan official says that at least 30 people, including women and kiddies, have been killed by Taliban

fighters in northern Sari Pul province.

Zahir Wahdat, the provincial governor for Sari Pul, said on Sunday that the victims were mostly civilians and some local security forces. The shootings took place Saturday morning after the Taliban seized control of the strategic Mirzawalang area in Sayad district.

Wahdat says Afghan forces retreated from the area after they couldn't gain ground or air support from the central government.

Earlier reports indicated that over a dozen people had been killed by the Taliban.

Qari Yusouf Ahamdi, a Taliban front man, grabbed credit for the attack, but not the civilian deaths.

Besides, 10 Taliban fighters were also killed, according to Zabi Amani, a front man for the provincial governor.

Amani said that the fighters, who included foreign Lion of Islams, attacked a security outpost in the Mirza Olang area of Sayaad district overnight, torching 30 houses.
The story according to Ynet:
Zabihullah Amani, a front man for the provincial governor, said the fighters, who included foreign bully boys, attacked a security outpost in the Mirza Olang area of Sayaad district overnight, torching 30 houses.

He said fighting was still going on but as many as 50 people, including children, women and elderly men, most of them members of the largely Shi'ite Hazara community, may have been killed, according to local village elders.

Seven members of the Afghan cops were also killed as well as a number of bully boys.

Many details of the attack, including the identity of the bully boys, were not immediately clear. Amani said they were a mixed group of Taliban and Islamic State

Australia police release man in foiled plane terrorism plot
[IsraelTimes] Charged with possession of prohibited weapon, Khaled Merhi is to appear in court later this month

Australian police Sunday released a second man locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
during counter-terrorism raids, days after two others were charged with terrorism offenses over an alleged plot to bring down a plane.

The 39-year-old man, named by his lawyer as Khaled Merhi, was among the four arrested during raids across Sydney last Saturday, which also led to tightened security at all major Australian airports.

"This investigation remains ongoing," Australian Federal Police and New South Wales state police said in a statement.

"A 39-year-old man, detained in relation to allegations regarding a potential terrorist attack, has been charged with one count of possession of prohibited weapon and released from police custody."

Merhi, whose detention by police had been extended by a magistrate, was due to be released Sunday if he was not charged. He is set to appear in court on the prohibited weapon charge on August 24.

Two other men -- Khaled Khayat, 49, and Mahmoud Khayat, 32 -- were charged with terrorism offences and refused bail Friday. They face life imprisonment if convicted, with their case back in court on November 14.

Another man, 50-year-old Abdul Merhi, was released without charge Wednesday.

Australian police alleged Friday that as part of the plans, a senior Islamic State

commander directed a group of Australian men to build a bomb destined for an Etihad Airways flight out of Sydney. The improvised bomb was due to be smuggled onto the July 15 flight, but the attempt was aborted before they reached security.

Police said they had also foiled a second alleged plot involving a "chemical dispersion device," designed to release hydrogen sulphide, but this was in the early stages. The second plan was hatched after the first one failed, police said, and was not necessarily targeted at a plane.

US special forces on the ground in Lebanon – report
[IsraelTimes] American troops aiding Lebanese army ahead of border offensive against Islamic State, which could see participation of Hezbollah

US special forces were reportedly on the ground in Leb ahead of a push by the US-backed Lebanese army against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. jihadist group along its northeastern border with Syria.

"I can confirm the presence of US Special Forces in Leb," a Pentagon front man told the al-Hurra TV network on Thursday. "Our special forces are providing training and support to the Lebanese Armed Forces.

"That not only concentrates on operational type missions, but also tactical and strategic type missions. We also have a presence with Lebanese Special Forces in all aspects of training and special operations," said spokesperson Eric Pahon.

Pahon would not elaborate on the nature of the operations by US troops and the number of special forces soldiers in the country.

According to the report, the US troops were in Leb to assist the Lebanese army in its upcoming offensive against the Islamic State -- a campaign that the Leb-based, Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah was expected to join.

Military sources told the Asharq al-Awsat daily the US soldiers "have been present in Leb to monitor the US military aid delivered to the army."

This week, Hezbollah took credit for ending the presence of al-Qaeda elements in the border area, following a week-long military offensive and then a negotiated settlement that saw hundreds of al-Qaeda-linked holy warriors return to Syria along with their families and thousands of civilians.

The Lebanese military, which has received more than $1 billion in US security assistance in the past decade, took a back seat in that operation. In a clear distribution of roles, the army is now expected to spearhead an upcoming fight in another section of the border, this time against IS.

Declaring victory Friday night, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said the army was perfectly capable of winning that fight but offered his support should it be needed.

"We are at the service of the Lebanese army and under its command... if they ask for any help we will help," he said in a televised speech.

group from the outskirts of the towns of al-Qaa and Ras Baalbek," a military source has said.

In remarks to al-Hayat newspaper published Sunday, the source also denied reports of possible assistance from the warplanes of Russia or the U.S.-led coalition.

"The Army Command is in constant communication with the U.S. side, which has been meeting its needs in terms of arms and ammunition, and it has not asked for assistance from the coalition’s fighter jets," the source said.

newspaper meanwhile quoted senior military sources as saying that "the Lebanese army will not coordinate with anyone, neither with the Syrian army nor with others, seeing as it possesses enough military capabilities to liberate the outskirts."

"The zero hour will only be set by Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, not by anyone else," the sources added.

Also on Sunday, ad-Diyar newspaper reported that the army would attack the IS group "from the Lebanese side" and that the Syrian army and Hizbullah

would pounce on the jihadists from the Syrian side in order to "ensure a quick victory in the battle."

"Meetings are being held between the sides that will take part in the battle in order to coordinate the military operations and this battle cannot be fought without this coordination," the daily reported.

The army has intensified its shelling of IS’ posts in recent days amid reports that an army operation to oust the jihadist group from the border region has become imminent.

The military developments follow a Hizbullah offensive that ended the presence of the jihadist al-Nusra

Trump administration criticize Pakistan for selective fight against terror groups
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s administration has once again criticized Pakistain for the selective fight against the terror groups, warning that President Trump will not tolerate support to Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
or related groups.

In an interview with the conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, President Trump’s national security adviser, Gen. Herbert McMaster said White House wants to see a "change in behavior" from interested groups in the region, particularly Pakistain. The top aide said that while Pakistain has taken "great losses" fighting the Taliban, they have done so "selectively."

"This is Pakistain in particular that we want to really see a change in‐ and a reduction of their support‐ for‐ these groups," he said. "I mean, this is‐ of course, you know, a very paradoxical situation, right, where Pakistain is taking great losses."

"They have fought very hard against these groups," McMaster argued, "but they’ve done so really only selectively."

He said that Trump is making clear that the U.S. will no longer tolerate any support for the Taliban or related groups.

"The president has also made clear that he, that we need to see a change in behavior of those in the region, which includes those who are providing safe haven and support bases for the Taliban," McMaster added.

This comes as the United States Department of States released its latest reports regarding terrorism for 2016 last week, providing an overall report regarding the terrorism related upheavals during the year.

The new report by the State Department further strengthens the claims made by the Afghan officials regarding the presence of the safe havens of the Taliban and Haqqani terrorist network inside the Pak territory.

"Afghanistan, in particular, continued to experience aggressive and coordinated attacks by the Afghan Taliban, including the affiliated Haqqani Network (HQN) and other myrmidon and terrorist groups," the report stated.

The Department of State also added that a number of these attacks were planned and launched from safe havens in Pakistain.

In first, court revokes citizenship of Arab Israeli car-ramming attacker
[IsraelTimes] Measure called for by interior minister; judge rules that by committing a terror attack, Alaa Raed Ahmad Zayoud removed himself from society

The Haifa Magistrate’s Court on Sunday revoked the citizenship of an Arab Israeli man convicted of carrying out a combined stabbing and car-ramming attack that seriously injured an IDF soldier as well as three others last year.

The ruling marked the first time Israel has stripped an Arab Israeli of citizenship over terror charges, activists said.

The court was responding to a request from Interior Minister Aryeh Deri.

Alaa Raed Ahmad Zayoud was convicted of four counts of attempted murder after he rammed an Israeli soldier, seriously injuring her, and then stepped out of the car to stab three others, causing them light to moderate wounds, on October 11, 2015.

The attack took place on Route 65 near the entrance to Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, northeast of Hadera, in the midst of a wave of stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in June last year.

The court ruled that after Zayoud’s citizenship is revoked in October he will be given a temporary status.
The court ruled that after Zayoud’s citizenship is revoked in October he will be given a temporary status, as exists in citizenship laws, and that it will be extended from time to time at the discretion of the interior minister after he has completed his sentence.

The Adalah NGO said it would file a Supreme Court appeal of what it called a "dangerous precedent," along with the Association for Civil Rights in Israel.

"Alaa Zayoud will be left stateless, in contravention of international law," Adalah said in a statement.

At the time, Deri said he had also informed the family that the ministry would not renew the residency of Zayoud’s Paleostinian father, who is not an Israeli citizen.
Deri, last May, filed a request with the court to revoke Zayoud’s citizenship. The move had also been green-lighted by the attorney general. Zayoud is a resident of the Arab Israeli city of Umm al-Fahm. At the time, Deri said he had also informed the family that the ministry would not renew the residency of Zayoud’s Paleostinian father, who is not an Israeli citizen.
An interesting precedent for all involved.
Deputy president of the Haifa Magistrate’s Court Avraham Elyakim said in his ruling that the measure was "suitable and proportional."

"For every citizen, alongside his rights, there are commitments," Elyakim reasoned. "One of them is the significant and important commitment to maintain loyalty to the state, which is given expression also in the commitment to not carry out terror acts to harm its residents and their security.

"We cannot allow an Israeli citizen to impact the lives and dignity of other Israeli citizens, and whoever decides to do so in acts of terror removes himself from the general society of the country," he added.

Deri said the decision will help prevent future attacks, Channel 2 new reported.

"The court decision strengthens the deterrent and strengthens our campaign to protect the security of the country," Deri said in a statement. "The decision states unequivocally that anyone who harms the state or its citizens can’t be a part of it."

Zayoud had admitted to Sherlocks that his attack was "nationalistically motivated," a police term indicating a terror attack. His confession marks a retraction from his initial claim that the attack was an accidental car collision, and the stabbings an act of self-defense after he was attacked by onlookers.

In his testimony, Zayoud told Sherlocks he wished to kill himself by killing Jews.

UN finds mass graves in northern Mali town
[DW] As renewed infighting among Tuareg groups threatens to derail a 2015 peace agreement, the UN has found mass graves in a northern Mali town. It also found evidence of the forced disappearance of children.

The UN mission - known as MINUSMA - uncovered "the existence of individual tombs and mass graves" in the village of Anefis, about 100 km (60 miles) southwest of the town of Kidal,
...Kidal had been the stronghold of the Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA), but it looks like they've decamped for more peaceful and perhaps less smelly environs...
the mission said in a statement.

Investigators also uncovered evidence of forced disappearances, kidnapping and robbery around Kidal, it read.

"As for Anefis, the teams were able to observe on site the existence of individual graves and mass graves but are not able to establish at this stage either the number of people buried or the circumstances of their deaths," MINUSMA said in a statement.

The mission confirmed 34 cases of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
abuses in the area, including "enforced disappearances" of minors, who have also been involved in the recent fighting.

The UN said there was the "possible presence" of child soldiers among the ranks of both gangs, which if confirmed would "constitute serious children's rights violations at a time of armed conflict."

Fighting between Tuareg groups has intensified in recent weeks in the north. The pro-government Platform group has been fighting with the former rebels of the Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) since June.

The conflict dates back to 2012, when cities in the north of the country came under the control of jihadist groups linked to al-Qaeda, which sought to exploit an ongoing ethnic Tuareg-led rebel uprising.

Sources told the French news agency AFP in late July that "dozens" of members of the GATIA militia - part of the Platform group - had been killed in festivities monitored by a UN helicopter that later crashed accidentally, killing two German crew.

While most of the Islamists were ousted by a French-led military operation, attacks have continued on UN forces, civilians and the Malian army.

Italian prosecutors widen investigation to include MSF over migrant rescues
[Reuters] Italian prosecutors are investigating leading humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), a legal source said on Saturday, over its role in rescuing migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea.

Italian police on Wednesday seized a migrant rescue boat operated by German organization Jugend Rettet on suspicion of aiding illegal immigration.

A legal source now says that MSF is also part of the investigation over the alleged rescue of migrants carried out just off the Libyan coast when there was no immediate threat to their safety.

MSF said in a statement it had not been notified of the inquiry and that it stood ready to cooperate with prosecutors since similar accusations first surfaced in the press months ago.

"We hope any doubts can be dispelled soon to end this trickling of accusations that poisons the atmosphere in an ever gloomier situation," it said.

Italy is under pressure to manage new arrivals because some 600,000 migrants have reached it by sea from North Africa since 2014. Immigration has become a potent political issue ahead of elections in spring 2018.

In a press interview on Saturday, Luigi Di Maio, who is expected to lead the populist Five-Star movement in next year's vote, called for "an immediate stop to the sea-taxi service". The Five-Star is ahead of the ruling Democratic Party in polls.

Rome has asked eight NGOs to sign a code of conduct for the southern Mediterranean, including a demand that they carry an armed policemen on board their boats.

Only four aid groups have agreed to it.

Italy's Interior Minister Marco Minniti urged the four NGOs that have not signed the document to do so.

"Those who do not sign cannot remain part of Italy's rescue system, though nobody is questioning the law of the sea and international treaties," he said in an interview with Saturday's Il Fatto Quotidiano.

"Because migrants arrive in Italy, we must find a balance between their rights and those of the country that hosts them. We need complete trust between those who carry out the rescues and the country that opens up its ports," he said.

MSF said in the statement that it would respect most of the code's tenets, but could not sign it as it neglected humanitarian principles and elements which it considers essential for rescues to be effective.

Twelve Killed in Nigeria Church Shooting
[AnNahar] Twelve worshipers were rubbed out at a church in southeast Nigeria on Sunday, with authorities suggesting the bloodshed was due to a local feud.

At around 6:00 am (0500 GMT), five gunnies shot up St. Philip's church in Ozubulu, near the city of Onitsha, unleashing terror on the congregation, witnesses said.

Chukwuma Emeka said he had just stepped out of the church to stretch his legs "when I heard gunshots and screaming and people running inside."

"When the chaos subsided I went inside, I saw my fellow church members dead in a pool of their own blood and many others were screaming in pain."

Attacks on churches are rare in southern Nigeria, where there is a predominantly Christian population.

The country's mainly-Moslem north has been gripped by a violent campaign by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
jihadists, who specialize in targeting religious centers.

There were varying accounts of what happened in Ozubulu. Witnesses said five gunnies in masks stormed the church, but police said the killing was the work of a lone shooter.

"So far, 12 persons have been confirmed dead and deposited in the mortuary here," a worker at Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital told AFP.

Several worshipers with gunshot wounds were also receiving treatment at the hospital, the source said. Witnesses said they feared that up to 20 people may have died.

- 'Feud' -
Garba Umar, Anambra State police Commissioner, said the attacker was a gunman who "went on a shooting spree, killing and wounding" worshipers.

He said the violence was the result of a failed murder attempt, tied to a feud within the local community.

"The information at the disposal of the police is that the gunman had been hired to kill a particular family person believed to be among the worshipers," he said.

Local rights activist Emeka Umeagbalasi said his information about the motive largely concurred with that of the police version.

The gunnies had gone to kill the son of a local chief but failed to find him at his home, Umeagbalasi said.

The attackers then went to the church to hunt for him, but could not find their prey and became angry, he said.

They opened "fire on parishioners and shot indiscriminately," he said, adding that the father of the intended target was shot and maimed.

Eiffel Tower knifeman 'wanted to kill soldier'
[TheLocal.fr] A man tossed in the clink

at the Eiffel Tower after brandishing a knife in front of tourists and security forces has told Sherlocks he wanted to kill a soldier, sources close to the case told AFP on Sunday.

The intruder, who is aged 18 and is a nut has a history of psychological problems, was arrested late on Saturday
The intruder, who is aged 18 and has a history of psychological problems, was arrested late on Saturday at the Gay Paree monument after bursting past security and shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is Greatest").

Armed soldiers who are permanently stationed at the Eiffel Tower surrounded him and ordered him to drop his weapon, which he did without attacking anyone, one security source said, asking not to be named.

In custody, he said he wanted to commit "an attack against a soldier and had been in contact with a member of the jihadist group Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. who encouraged him to take action," a separate source told AFP.

Evacuation
Police had initially treated Saturday's Eiffel Tower incident as a criminal case, but anti-terror prosecutors have since taken over the investigation.

After the arrest, police checked the Eiffel Tower site and called for it to be evacuated at around 00:30, 15 minutes before it normally closes, a statement from the company that runs the monument said.

The intruder was wearing a Gay Paree Saint-Germain football shirt. At the time of the incident the tower was lit up with the colours of the team to welcome the club's new world-record signing, Brazilian star Neymar.

The legal source said the man with the knife, a Frenchie born in the West African state of Mauritania, was a patient in a psychiatric hospital who had been let out for the weekend.

He was found guilty of inciting terrorism and making death threats in December 2016 and received a suspended sentence.

The tower reopened on Sunday morning as usual at 09:00 am (0700 GMT) Gay Paree mayor Anne Hidalgo praised the "professionalism and reactions" of security forces at the site.
Update from Deutsche Welle at 10:20 a.m. EDT:
The suspect, identified by French media as Mamaye D., was born in the west African country of Mauritania in 1998 and has a history of mental troubles. He had been in a psychiatric hospital for several months and his stay had been renewed for six more months on July 27, according to French press reports. He was granted weekend leave from August 4-6.

A member of his family told Le Gay Pareeien newspaper "For a little while, Mamaye had benefited from permission to leave the Persan hospital to come and see us at weekends. When he did he stayed in the living room. On Saturday, I didn't notice anything special about his behavior."

According to a source close to the investigation and press reports, the suspect had threatened SNCF railway personnel in 2015 and was convicted in December last year on charges of defending acts of terrorism and for making death threats. He was given a four-month suspended sentence.

Joining Arab states, Israel says it plans to ban Al-Jazeera
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] Israel said Sunday it plans to ban Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
's flagship al-Jazeera network from operating in the country over allegations it incites violence, joining Arab nations that have shut down the broadcaster amid a separate political dispute. The news organization, in turn, said it will take legal action.

Communications Minister Ayoob Kara said he plans to revoke the press credentials of al-Jazeera journalists, effectively preventing them from working in Israel.

Kara said he has asked cable and satellite networks to block Al Jazeera transmissions and is seeking legislation to ban them altogether.

The minister, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party, gave no timetable for such measures.

Doha-based al-Jazeera on its English language website condemned the measures as "undemocratic" and said that it will take legal action. It said it will continue operating in the Gazoo Strip and the West Bank.

Walid al-Omari, the broadcaster's bureau chief in Jerusalem, said on air that his office has not been informed by Israeli officials of any possible measures the government might take.

3,600 Brazilian troops storm Rio slums to catch gang leaders
[DAWN] Thousands of Brazilian army troops raided Rio de Janeiro slums in a pre-dawn crackdown on crime gangs on Saturday, leaving parts of the city looking like a war zone on the first anniversary of the opening of the Olympic Games.

Five areas were targeted by police and 3,600 troops in a swoop starting at 4am, the Rio state security service said in a statement. Their main goal was to stop gangs behind a surge in brazen robberies of commercial trucks, with arrest warrants issued for 40 people. Rio state authorities say there were 10,000 cases of cargo theft last year.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the unusually aggressive operation also follows wider concerns that nearly bankrupt post-Olympic Rio is spinning out of control. The troops in action were part of 8,500 deployed to the city last month in a tacit acknowledgement that cash-strapped police have lost the ability to cope.

Scores of heavily armed soldiers in camouflage, rows of jeeps and armoured personnel carriers could be seen ringing Lins favela, one of the many little-regulated, and often gang-plagued communities of working class Brazilians that rise on the city’s forest-clad hills.

Troops stood guard with fingers on the triggers of assault rifles, while units of soldiers and SWAT police roamed the streets, pointing their weapons out of car windows.

Everyone entering and leaving the area was subjected to an identity check and search, with men required to lift their shirts. One man was questioned at length about a scar on his stomach and another man’s bag was searched only to find he was carrying a large Bible.

Robert Mueller's Has Record of Framing His Quarries
[CanadaFreePress] Back in December 11, 2016 most folk were too busy celebrating the stunning presidential victory of Donald J. Trump, or already exploring devious ways to get him impeached. Few paid any attention to the revelation of Robert Mueller’s alleged attempts to have the Icelandic government help him frame Julian Assange and WikiLeaks via the FBI.

In August of 2011, Mueller sent a planeload of eight FBI agents on a purported mission to Iceland to sabotage Assange and WikiLeaks.

Not much notice was paid when former Icelandic Minister of the Interior, Ögmundur Jonasson caught them redhanded before sending them packing.

Jonasson revealed that U.S. authorities first told him in June 2011 that there was an ’imminent attack’ on Iceland’s government databases; that they were sending the FBI to the rescue.

But he claims that when the FBI arrived in August, the FBI ’sought Iceland’s cooperation to frame Assange and WikiLeaks’ in a mission that was part of a ’wide-ranging investigation’ into Assange and WikiLeaks’.

Savvy to their real intention that had nothing to do with saving government database cyber attacks, Jonasson’s response was to have the FBI kicked out of Iceland.

The story was widely reported on in 2013, but Jonasson made no attempt of the U.S. trying to frame Assange until he became a whistleblower last December, making it the biggest "if only" story of all time.

"If only" Jonasson had come forward in 2011, would Robert Mueller have ever been appointed as Special Counsel and get to empanel a Grand Jury to probe the Russia/Trump non-stop mainstream media allegations?

"The authorities said there was an ’imminent attack’ on Iceland’s government databases and that the FBI would send agents to investigate. (Anneta Konstantinides For Dailymail.com, Dec. 11, 2016)

"Jonasson said he was immediately skeptical of the FBI’s intentions.

’I was suspicious,’ he told Katoikos. ’Well aware that a helping hand might easily become a manipulating hand!’
...
Robert Mueller was FBI Director in 2011 when the planeload of FBI agents was sent to Iceland, one year before the second election of Barack Hussein Obama as POTUS.

What information was a Mueller-led FBI trying to keep from coming into public view?

This is a question that leans heavily on his role as ’Special Counsel’.

Afghanistan
Hekmatyar slams senior officials for anti-govt coalition and embezzlement of billions of dollars
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The leader of Hezb-e-Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
once again slammed the bigwigs actively working in the government for forming new anti-government political coalitions.

Hekmatyar made the remarks during an interview with the foreign journalists in Kabul.

He said considering the internal situation of Afghanistan and its regional position, a strong central government is always a need along with a president who has full authorities, insisting that without this it would be difficult to ensure peace and bring stability in the country.

The leader of Hezb-e-Islami questioned the current government’s authorities, saying when a president is even prevented from appointing a governor by the internal and external circles, how such a government would be able to eliminate violence and govern on the nation.

Hekmatyar also criticized the senior government officials for the formation of the new political coalitions and expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s regarding the threats, show of power, and rallies by their armed supporters.

He said billions of dollars have been embezzled, banks have been looted, hundreds of acres of land have been grabbed, and the government remains weak to try the perpetrators.

The remarks by Hekmatyar comes as efforts are underway by some key political figures, including General Abdul Rashi Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
, Ata Mohammad Noor, and Mohammad Mohaqiq to formally declare the establishment of their new political coalition.

Gaza man crosses into Israel, is apprehended by soldiers
[IsraelTimes] Unarmed Paleostinian taken in for questioning

IDF soldiers apprehended a Paleostinian man who crossed over from the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-ruled Gazoo Strip into Israel early Sunday morning, the army said.

The man was caught near the fence outside the northern part of the Strip and was being questioned, the army said in a statement. He was unarmed.

The border fence contains a bevy of sensors and cameras to support the large number of soldiers who regularly patrol the area. Infiltrators are typically caught within moments.

Residents of Gazoo occasionally cross the border into Israel, and are generally unarmed. They often do so with the intention of getting caught, seeking to escape the harsh circumstances in the Strip.

Last month three Paleostinians were apprehended after crossing the border.

[SHABELLENEWS] The politicians of Somalia’s northern self-declared region of Somaliland have on Sunday overwhelmingly voted to elect a new speaker, following the resignation of Abdirahman Irro.

Bashe Mohammed Farah has been elected as the new speaker, after beating his main rival contender Abdirahman Talyanle with majority 39 votes during the voting.
