Judge orders new searches for Clinton Benghazi emails
[Politico] Nine months after the presidential election was decided, a federal judge is ordering the State Department to try again to find emails Hillary Clinton wrote about the Benghazi attack.

U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta ruled that the State Department had not done enough to try to track down messages Clinton may have sent about the assault on the U.S. diplomatic compound on Sept. 11, 2012 -- an attack that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya.

In response to Freedom of Information Act requests, State searched the roughly 30,000 messages Clinton turned over to her former agency at its request in December 2014 after officials searching for Benghazi-related records realized she had used a personal email account during her four-year tenure as secretary.

State later searched tens of thousands of emails handed over to the agency by three former top aides to Clinton: Huma Abedin, Cheryl Mills and Jake Sullivan. Finally, State searched a collection of emails the FBI assembled when it was investigating Clinton's use of the private account and server.

#2  If one reads this judges bio, he appears to be very left-leaning. After law school, Judge Mehta worked in the San Francisco office of the law firm Latham & Watkins LLP before clerking for the Honorable Susan P. Graber of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  Following his clerkship, Judge Mehta worked at the Washington, D.C.-based law firm Zuckerman Spaeder LLP from 1999 to 2002.  In 2002, Judge Mehta joined the District of Columbia Public Defender Service as a staff attorney.  Judge Mehta returned to Zuckerman Spaeder in 2007, where his practice focused on white-collar criminal defense, complex business disputes, and appellate advocacy.

Judge Mehta served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project and is the former co-chair of the District of Columbia Bar’s Criminal Law and Individual Rights Section Steering Committee.

Trump Dossier Firm Turns Over Documents To Senate Panel, But There's Just One Problem
[Daily Caller] Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the Trump dossier, turned over thousands of pages of documents to the Senate Judiciary Committee late Wednesday, The Daily Caller is told.

But the documents do not appear to be what the committee was hoping that Fusion GPS and its founder, Glenn Simpson, would provide.

“The committee is reviewing the production received late this afternoon from Mr. Simpson, but virtually all of the documents appear to be merely news clippings rather than records of Fusion’s substantive communications,” George Hartmann, a spokesman for the Senate Judiciary Committee, told TheDC.

The paltry document production escalates the standoff between Fusion GPS and the Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley.

After Simpson declined an invitation to testify before the committee last month, Grassley issued a subpoena to compel him to appear. But the subpoena was withdrawn after Simpson, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, said he would voluntarily meet in a closed session with committee staff.

Alabama GOP Rep Called His Voters 'Uninformed' - 'They Don't Know the Truth' (Video)
[PJ] On a talk radio program out of Huntsville, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) tried to dodge a question about an attack ad running against him that claims he was a never-Trumper. But instead of simply denying that he was a never-Trumper, he thought it best to bash his constituents. He said, "A lot of people are relatively uninformed, they don't know the truth, they are easy to deceive." That's usually not the kind of rhetoric you want to put out there about your own voters!

Secretary Clinton is not an entertainer, and not a celebrity in the Trump, Kardashian mold; what can she do to offset this? I'm certain the poll-directed insiders are sure things will default to policy as soon as the conventions are over, but I think not. And as I've mentioned, we've all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking - and not just poll driven, demographically-inspired messaging.

Malkin: How Did the Dems' IT Scandal Suspects Get Here?
[Daily Wire] Here is a radical proposition: The public has a right to know the immigration status and history of foreign criminal suspects. Their entrance and employment sponsorship records should not be treated like classified government secrets -- especially if the public's tax dollars subsidized their salaries.

In March, I contacted the D.C. offices of House Congressional Democrats Joaquin Castro of Texas, Sander Levin of Michigan, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Greg Meeks of New York and Ted Deutch of Florida. These public officials have at one time or another employed one of three Pakistani Muslim brothers or their family and friends caught up in a criminal theft and hacking probe of the House Democrats' information security systems. In all, IT worker Imran Awan and his family and friends hoovered up an estimated $4 million in government funds over a period of 13 years.

For months, the D.C. Capitol Police have probed allegations that the Awan ring stole equipment from more than 20 congressional offices and accessed the House IT system without members' knowledge. Investigative reporter Luke Rosiak at The Daily Caller News Foundation has done excellent work on the case -- most recently breaking the news of Imran Awan's arrest in late July at the airport for alleged bank fraud, mortgage scams and shady wire transfers of nearly $300,000.

Awan was headed to Pakistan to join his wife, Hina Alvi, and three children, who had hastily fled America in March after Alvi was fired by Rep. Meeks. This reeks.

My question to the House Democrats was simple: Were the Awans and their family and friends H-1B tech workers -- like so many of the 650,000 "temporary" foreign guest workers imported into America under that program over the past quarter-century and predominantly working in IT?

#2  Yes, quite excellent indeed. Provides some needed perspective to the myth that millions living in and around Seoul will die from North Korean artillery.

I suspect we'll see some Nork 'ranging' (bracketing or as the press is saying 'envelope with multiple rockets') in the waters off Guam in the coming weeks. Not certain if that will trigger a U.S. response, but it very likely will.

#7  IMO Kim is actually acting rationally. His economy is non-existent and his previous threats got him 'deals' from the US, so he expects threats to succeed again (and he knows China is ok with it, for now.) Would he actually USE nukes ? I doubt it, but if he is convinced we would not retaliate in kind he just might, if he thought it would get him some goodies. Trump is just putting some doubt in his mind.

#10  If it comes to blows, look for China to move first. Kim will commit "suicide", China will "volunteer" to help "stabilize" the situation. A people's committee or something will take over. They'll renounce nukes ... for now.

The NoKos are crazy enough to fight. China is not prepared to let that happen. Lucky for me too, because I'm looking to buy some flash drives in the coming months. Wouldn't do to have Samsung bombed.

#12  Well written and nicely done. Some broad assumptions from the author. This is a total war perspective. An all at Soul or nothing. Firing on Seoul will cause mass panic. I have heard they can house millions in bomb shelters. So now the panic starts. It wont take much to bring the city to complete ineffectiveness. I do agree that the millions casualty reports are propaganda. But dropping any 155 rounds into urban areas will cause fairly large casualty rates. I'm all for sending in the Buffs to clear out their arty. Send in the rocket to clear out the missile bases, nuke missile compounds, the military HQ and comms/ada, and to remove Kimmi from the face of this earth. From there the Russians and Chinese can fight over whats left.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
With 'fire and fury,' Trump revives fears about his possession of nuclear codes

As with most things Trump, the furor over the "fire and fury" has divided the nation in two - those who believe the president is a loose launchpad, impulsively blurting whatever flits through his mind, and those who believe his inflammatory talk is a wily combination of politically savvy instincts and a gut-driven populism that simply aims to please.

When President Donald Trump went off script Tuesday to deliver a startling threat to North Korea - "They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen" - it was as if the nation relived the most lurid themes of the 2016 campaign in one chilling moment.

Last fall, Hillary Clinton's campaign used as one of its final weapons a TV ad featuring a longtime nuclear missile launch officer who warned against voting for Trump: "I prayed that call would never come. Self-control may be all that keeps these missiles from firing."

Then, quick-fire, a series of clips of Trump on the stump: "I would bomb the s--- out of them." "I want to be unpredictable." "I love war."

"The thought of Donald Trump with nuclear weapons scares me to death," Bruce Blair, the retired launch officer, says in the ad. "It should scare everyone."

It very nearly did: Voters made clear last fall that they trusted Clinton vastly more than Trump on the use of nuclear weapons - by 57 percent to 31 percent in a Fox News poll in October, for example.

But Trump voters often said that their reasons for supporting him outweighed their sense that he could be dangerously impulsive - and they repeatedly expressed confidence that the national security apparatus would keep him in check.

A lot more at link.

#10  Candidate Hillary Clinton on Iran:
"I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran (if it attacks Israel)," Clinton said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them," she said.

Candidate John Kerry on WMD threats:
We must ensure that lawless states and terrorists will not be armed with weapons of mass destruction.

This is the single gravest threat to our security. Any potential adversary should know that we will defend ourselves against the possibility of attack by unconventional arms. If such a strike does occur, as commander-in-chief, I will respond with overwhelming and devastating force. If such an attack appears imminent, as commander-in-chief, I will do whatever is necessary to stop it. And, as commander-in-chief, I will never cede our security to anyone. I will always do what is necessary to safeguard our country.

This was was pretty tough rhetoric. The big problem is that both candidates subsequently worked as Obama's SoS to help Iran acquire nuclear weapons.

So North Korea might reasonably dismiss Trump's and Mattis' threats as empty bluster.

Western deterrence has been eroded over the last decades by Western politician making empty threats.

Judge delays NJ Senator Menendez's (D-NJ) dismissal bid, trial set for September 6
[Reuters] A judge has decided to delay ruling on whether federal corruption charges against Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey should be dismissed, clearing the way for the Democrat's trial to begin as scheduled on Sept. 6.

In an order dated Tuesday, U.S. District Judge William Walls in Newark, New Jersey said he would rule after prosecutors present their case to a jury.

Menendez had argued last month that his bribery and fraud charges should be dismissed because they were not criminal, under a June 2016 U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning the corruption conviction of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.

That decision narrowed the definition of "official acts," and said routine political activities such as arranging meetings and reaching out to public officials did not qualify.

Walls wrote that whether Menendez's alleged wrongful activities as "official acts" was a "factual determination" to be made after prosecutors presented their evidence at trial.

"The allegations of the superseding indictment are not legally deficient to prevent their going to a jury," he added.

Lawyers for Menendez and his co-defendant, Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Prosecutors accused Menendez of accepting campaign donations and gifts, including a stay at a Caribbean villa and private jet flights, from Melgen in exchange for using his office to lobby for the doctor.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty. Menendez is expected to seek a third six-year term in 2018.

Several politicians have sought to have their corruption cases thrown out since the McDonnell decision.

Last month, a federal appeals court in New York cited the decision in overturning the corruption conviction of former New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Prosecutors plan to retry him.

The case is U.S. v. Menendez et al, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey, No. 15-cr-00155.

Yeah, but that was under the old lefty politicized Supreme Court; not the new "rule of law Constitutionally-based" court. Iraq
More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

ISIS leader struck by mortar attack

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State leader was killed, along with his companion by a mortar missile in Tal Afar town, west of Mosul, a local source from Nineveh was quoted saying.

“IS leader in charge of the the defense lines, who is an Iraqi national, was killed along with his companion as a mortar missile was shot while inspecting some of the group’s checkpoints,” the source told AlSumaria News on Wednesday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added “IS established several defense lines in Tal Afar to confront the security troops and the pro-government Popular Mobilization Units over the past few months after losing control on the Tal Afar airport.”

An Iraqi army official was quoted as saying on Tuesday that seventeen IS militants, including leaders, were killed in artillery shelling in the town. Earlier on the day, news reports said that army’s ninth armored division arrived to boundaries of the town ahead of anticipated battle to free it from IS.

Defense Ministry declared, earlier this week, conclusion of arrangements ahead of military invasion of the town. An army official was quoted as saying that an army division was ordered to leave Mosul toward Tal Afar within preparations to retake the town, which has been set as the next target of operations after victory was declared in Mosul on July 10.

ISIS shifts forces in Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State began evacuating the so-called ‘security squares’, which the group established after gaining control on Tal Afar town, a local source said.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said, “the frequent shelling on IS headquarters and targeting of rest houses of prominent leaders urged the group to begin evacuation of the ‘security squares’ established in the wake of controlling the towin in 2014.”

The squares, according to the source, “is a tactic employed by the group to enhance its control on Tal Afar through opening headquarters that are surrounded by houses for the members’ families.”

The source, who preferred anonymity, added that “evacuation of these squares is an evidence that the group is aware of its loss in the battle, thus it tries reducing the losses to transfer the members and their families to areas far away from the shelling.

Earlier on the day, an IS leader in charge of the defense lines was killed alog with his companion by a mortar missile in the town.

Iraqi kops shoot ISIS judge in Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Federal Police forces killed on Wednesday a senior Islamic State judge in a raid in western Mosul’s Old City as troops continue to comb the city for remnant cells.

Federal Police chief Shaker Jawdat said in statements that troops killed Abdul-Sattar Mohamed Ali, aka Abi al-Hakam al-Aawar, when they raided a basement he was hiding at in the Old City district.

Israel Weapons Industries (IWI) to Resurrect Galil Rifle in the U.S. Market
[Kit Up] LAS VEGAS -- Israel Weapon Industries will release an updated version of the Galil rifle in the U.S. market this spring, a company official said.

Hagai Katz, a weapons instructor at IWI, demonstrated the new semi-automatic rifle known as the Galil ACE this week at a gun range north of Las Vegas as part of the opening day of SHOT Show.

Based on the original Galil assault rifle developed in the 1960s, the updated version still draws inspiration from the Russian AK-47 and the Finnish Valmet RK 62, but is modernized with a lower receiver made out of a high-strength polymer to reduce weight, a 360-degree Picatinny rail for accessories, ambidextrous safety levers, adjustable buttstock and adjustable iron sights.

#6  Thing

AK-47 is very rugged, requires little upkeep, almost fault free - you can stick the barrel in the ground, shake it out and shoot. Drawback it's not very precise.

M16 is flimsy (all the plastic parts always break), fault prone (a grain of sand can cause stoppage - and sand will enter because of the shutter arrangement*), and it's made of rust-prone steel. Advantage: it's very precise.

*You can train people to close the shutter automatically, once they stop firing.

Galil is not precise, not very robust, and it rusts like nobody's business.

Britain
Referrals to UK counter-terrorism scheme double after recent attacks: Police
[AlAhram] Referrals by members of the public to the British government's counter-terrorism scheme have doubled since Lions of Islam launched deadly attacks earlier this year in London and Manchester, a senior police official said on Wednesday.

Simon Cole, the National Police Chief Council's lead front man on deradicalisation efforts, said police had received around 200 referrals to the strategy known as "Prevent" from members of the public since March when Britannia suffered the first of four deadly attacks.

Officials said that this figure was around twice the numbers of referrals that "Prevent" representatives around Britannia had received in the months prior to the attacks.

"Even though these referrals from the public are increasing, we still need more people to have the confidence to tell our safeguarding experts if they are worried about someone's behaviour," Cole told news hounds.

Prevent has long been the most controversial strand of the government's attempts to stop Britons from becoming involved in violent extremism following its introduction in the wake of the July 2005 suicide kabooms by four British Islamists on London's transport network.

Many Moslems believe it has been used as a tool to spy on their communities rather than simply sway potential Lions of Islam from becoming radicalised.

Cole said the number of referrals made to "Prevent" by members of the public was still relatively low, with 500 made in 2016 and 2017 compared to an annual total of about 6300.
Cole's comments are the latest attempt by senior officers to try to reassure the public about Prevent and come days after Dean Haydon, the officer who heads up London's Counter Terrorism Command, said it had achieved "fantastic results" and that criticism was based on ignorance.

"All of us involved in Prevent need to work to improve that public confidence and understanding, challenging damaging myths and be more transparent in our approach," Cole said. "We would rather people show concern before something happens."

Britannia is on its second highest threat level, "severe", meaning another attack is highly likely. In March, a man killed five people after driving a into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London before stabbing a policeman to death outside parliament.

That was followed by a suicide kaboom at a pop concert in Manchester which killed 22, and the following month eight people died after three Islamist Lions of Islam drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars.

Two weeks later a van was driven into worshippers near a London mosque which left one man dead.

Cole said the number of referrals made to "Prevent" by members of the public was still relatively low, with 500 made in 2016 and 2017 compared to an annual total of about 6300. The other referrals were made by government or police bodies or other public organizations.

The programme had helped the authorities stop about 150 people from travelling to Syria in the past year, Cole said, adding about 55 to 60 percent of referrals were related to possible involvement by British individuals with Islamic State

However,

another 15 percent were related to right-wing extremism. Officials said that the number of referrals about suspected right-wing murderous Moslems had doubled since the murder in June last year of British politician Jo Cox, who was killed by a loner obsessed with Nazis and white supremacist ideology.

Afghanistan
Taliban release 235 civilians held in Afghan village
More on this story from yesterday.
[DAWN] Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
murderous Moslems released 235 civilians held since seizing control of an area in northern Sari Pul province five days ago, provincial officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Zabi Amani, front man for the provincial governor, said the civilians were released after negotiations between the Taliban and tribal elders. The murderous Moslems were still holding an unknown number of civilians, he said.

Most of the civilians are staying in area mosques and some are with their relatives in the city and provincial officials are trying to provide them food and other necessities until finding a solution for the problem, he said.

Fifty two civilians including women and kiddies have been killed in Mirzawalang in Sayad district since murderous Moslems took control of the area, Amani said.

Qari Yusouf Ahmadi, a Taliban front man, grabbed credit for seizing the area, but he denied that non-combatants were killed in Mirzawalang.

According to provincial officials, this is the first time that Taliban and bully boy Islamic State

According to Esmatullah, the Islamist leaders, Mawlavi Sahak of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Mawlavi Iqbl of Sepa-e-Sahaba, and Dr. Shukor of Jish-e-Mohammadi are attracting the bully boyz by luring them to terrorist camps under the name of Jihad.

Esmatullah further added that the named Islamist leaders are claiming that the Moslems are under suppression Afghanistan facing cruelty and their lives, properties, and dignity are under the risk.

Man killed by anti-Trump neighbor after dispute in West Goshen
[6ABC] A man is under arrest, accused of killing his next door neighbor in West Goshen, Chester County.

Police have charged Clayton Carter, 51, in the shooting death of G. Brooks Jennings.

Man gunned down outside home in West Goshen

Shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, police responded to the 300 block of Box Elder Drive for a dispute between Carter and Jennings about cursing and video recording in the back yard. Police said they were able to resolve that dispute.

Then at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, police say the neighbors got into another dispute. Carter told police that Jennings shined a light into his eyes while he was outside. Carter then allegedly pulled a car onto his lawn, shining the high beams of the car on Jennings' property.

Carter then allegedly retrieved a .380 semi-automatic handgun from his house and confronted the victim again outside.

Officials say Carter shot Jennings once in the head, knocking him to the ground. Carter then allegedly stood over Jennings' body and shot him once more in the head.

The victim was on his own property, police said.

According to the Chester County District Attorney's Office, Carter admitted to the details of the ongoing dispute and to shooting the victim. Carter claims that Jennings threatened him with a knife, but he had no injuries.

"My client says he was justified in doing so because he was under attack by a knife wielding assailant," said defense attorney Terrence Marlowe.

According to the district attorney's office, Carter did not call police for help or render aid to Jennings.

Jennings' wife allegedly heard the first gunshot, then saw Carter stand over her husband as he fired the second shot.

Police recovered two shell casings, the gun and a knife at the scene. One shell casing was located on Carter's property. The second shell casing was found on the victim's property, near Jennings' body.

Carter has been charged with murder and related offenses, and is currently being held at the Chester County Prison.

Neighbor Brian Dougherty got emotional when speaking of Jennings.

"You don't want to sound cliche, you see this on TV all the time, but he is probably the nicest, best guy I've ever met in my whole life. Really, seriously," Dougherty said.

Police say Carter had disputes with a number of other neighbors, and even pulled a gun on Jennings during a past altercation.

Neighbors say Carter was a quarrelsome, argumentative man. Court records claim Carter had a history of disputes with multiple neighbors. His front yard was crowded with cars and hand lettered anti-Trump signs.

But the disputes along the block were not political, but personal. Neighbors say they were fueled apparently by some unknown anger inside Carter's head.

"We steered clear of him. We were frightened of him because he's so unpredictable," said Kathy Pratt.

On hearing of a shooting Tuesday morning, former neighbor Mary Beth Wallace came to the scene fearing the suspect had been involved in harming someone.

"My heart sunk to my feet, because I knew something had happened," Wallace said. "I had seen that there was a shooting on Box Elder, and my heart just sunk to my feet. I knew all the way over here, I just suspected what I was going to find."

Wallace said she first feared that the target might have been someone from Carter's family.

She says she did not know Mr. Jennings, but that her heart goes out to his family.

Israeli soldier moderately hurt in overnight arrest raid in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Serviceman accidentally hit by IDF fire in operation to detain suspects in Deheishe refugee camp near Bethlehem

An IDF soldier was moderately hurt during a military operation overnight Tuesday in the West Bank.

The soldier was shot by accident during an arrest raid to detain two Paleostinian suspects in the Deheishe refugee camp near Bethlehem. According to preliminary reports, he was hit by friendly fire and taken to hospital in Jerusalem for treatment.

The two suspects were also injured in the incident, one lightly and the other seriously, according to reports in the Hebrew-language press. They too were taken to hospital for treatment.

The IDF said it was investigating the incident.

The Israeli military added in a statement that 25 Paleostinian suspects were tossed in the calaboose

IDF arrests father, brother of Halamish terrorist
[IsraelTimes] Security forces continue campaign to pick up relatives of Omar al-Abed suspected of praising or assisting in his attack

Israeli security forces, in an operation overnight Tuesday in the Paleostinian village of Kobar, north of Ramallah, tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
the father and a brother of a terrorist who stabbed to death three members of the Salomon family in the Halamish settlement last month.

Hours after the July 21 attack, the IDF raided Omar al-Abed’s home, mapped it for demolition and arrested another one of his brothers, whom officials suspect aided his brother in carrying out the attack.

In the ensuing days, the army also arrested Abed’s mother, Ibtisam, for "aggravated incitement," after she appeared in a widely shared video praising her son’s actions.

Abed’s father, Abd al-Jalil, who was arrested in the Tuesday night raid, told the Haaretz daily last month that his son’s actions were understandable.

On the eve of July 21, 19-year-old Abed descended from his village, climbed over the Halamish fence, and knocked on the door of the Salomon home.

The family had been celebrating the birth of a new grandson and thought that Abed was the first guest to the party. Shortly after walking in, the young Paleostinian took out his knife and stabbed to death Yosef Salomon, 70 and his two children, Chaya, 46, and Elad, 36. Yosef’s wife, Tova, sustained several stab wounds to her back but survived.

An off-duty IDF soldier heard the screams, grabbed his gun and shot the terrorist through the Salomon’s kitchen window, wounding him.

Although there has been considerable political support, notably from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for seeking the death penalty against Abed, the Military Advocate General’s office, which will try the case in an IDF court, said that the punishment is not Israeli policy, despite it being permissible under law.

In addition to detaining Abed’s relatives, security forces arrested 25 Paleostinians in overnight raids across the West Bank. Twenty-two of the suspects were said to have been involved in violent disturbances against civilians and soldiers.

The Paleostinian Authority has officially denied any change in policy, but Abbas has been seeking to squeeze Gazoo’s rulers Hamas through a series of measures including reducing electricity payments.

"We will continue the gradual stopping of financial allocations to the Gazoo Strip until Hamas commits to reconciliation," he said at the weekend.

Gazooks seeking medical care outside of the strip must first apply to the Paleostinian Authority for permission and financial aid, before seeking Israeli permits if they need to enter Israeli territory.

Iraq
Iraqi militia man die in IED attack in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a house of al-Hashd al-Ashaeri (Tribal Mobilization Forces) fighter north of the capital Baghdad, according to Ikhnews.

A source from local police told Ikhnews that the explosion caused material damage and no casualties were reported.

“A security force cordoned off the explosion scene and carried out search and raid operations in the region,” he added.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Bombings and armed attacks are seen on almost a daily basis against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016.

More than 500 Iraqis were killed and injured during the month of July due to violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

Iraqi warbirds destroy ISIS HQs near al-Qa'im

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Dozens of Islamic State (IS) militants were killed as Iraqi Air Force bombed six headquarters in Al-Qa’im town, west of Anbar, the War Media Cell (WMC) said on Wednesday.

“Iraqi Air Force warplanes have conducted airstrikes targeting six headquarters in the town of Al-Qa’im,” WMC said in a statement.

“Several IS elements were killed in the airstrike as they were holding a meeting in one of the destroyed headquarters,” the statement added.

IS has held the towns of Qaim, Rawa and Annah, on Anbar’s borders with Syria, posing threats to the liberated regions. IS havens are expected to be targeted by the Iraqi government, after security achieved victory in Mosul, the group’s biggest stronghold in Iraq.

Faisal Mosque imam barred from speaking on political issues
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The imam of Faisal Mosque has been barred from speaking on political issues or even seeking Allah’s guidance for the rulers of the country during his Friday sermons following a complaint by an intelligence agency.

"I have advised the imam not to indulge himself in political issues as Faisal Mosque is for all the Moslems irrespective of their political and religious affiliations," Dr Masoom Yasinzai, the rector of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), told Dawn.

He said he took the step after a complaint by an intelligence agency that the imam during his recent Friday sermon had sought Allah’s guidance for the rulers.

The rector was talking to Dawn after a protest by the Federation of All-Pakistain Universities Staff Association (FAPUSA) against the IIUI administration for not allowing its representatives to hold an event in the university’s auditorium on Tuesday.

The association announced to hold a countrywide black day against what its office-bearers said anti-democratic and irresponsible attitude of the varsity administration.

The rector said universities were meant for academic discussions and for holding an event at the auditorium the organisers should have taken prior permission.

"We have a committee, which receives applications and discusses the agenda of any event before giving the final approval. After scrutiny of the agenda and the speakers, the university gives permission for holding the events. But in this case, the process was not followed by FAPUSA and the Academic Staff Association of the IIUI," the rector said.

North Korea risks ‘the destruction of its people’: Pentagon chief
[Iran Press TV] US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says in case of a military conflict between the United States and North Korea the latter risks "the destruction of its people."

"The DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] must choose to stop isolating itself and stand down its pursuit of nuclear weapons," Mattis said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The DPRK should cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and the destruction of its people," he warned.

The Pentagon chief's comments came a day after President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
threatened to hit the country "with fire and fury."

In response to Trump’s apocalyptic warning, North Korea said it was "carefully examining" a plan to strike the American Pacific territory of Guam with missiles.

The North Korean military said it could carry out a pre-emptive strike if there were signs of an American provocation.

The Latest: Canada sends soldiers to migrant border crossing
[MiamiHerald] SAINT-BERNARD-DE-LACOLLE, Quebec

The Latest on the increasing flow of migrants over the U.S.-Canadian border at a remote spot in northern New York and southern Quebec (all times local):

1:40 p.m.

Canada has sent about 100 soldiers to a remote spot on the Quebec-New York border where asylum seekers are crossing illegally.

The Canadian military said in a statement Wednesday that the soldiers will help the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency at the site.

They are preparing a place for tents that can hold almost 500 people. They will also install lighting and heating equipment.

The military says the soldiers won't play a role in security and won't be helping with law enforcement.

The military says that once the site is completed, only a few will soldiers will stay behind. The rest will go back to their home base.

The migrants fear the U.S. is becoming less welcoming and have decided to try their luck seeking asylum in Canada. Officials estimate that 400 people crossed the border at the site on Sunday alone.

___

1 a.m.

Thousands of migrants are fleeing the United States for Canada via a remote back road in upstate New York.

The Canadians arrest the migrants as soon as they step across the border. But the migrants prefer to take a chance by seeking asylum in Canada rather than risk being deported from the United States.

Canadian police have set up a reception center on their side of the border. It includes tents where migrants are processed before they are turned over to the government agency that handles their applications for refuge.

Officials estimate that 400 people crossed the border at the site on Sunday alone.

Canada said last week it planned to house some migrants in Montreal's Olympic Stadium. It could hold thousands, but current plans only call for only 450.

Top Tunisian terrorist Titzup
TUNIS: Tunisian armed forces killed two Islamist militants including a senior commander in a mountain raid near the western border with Algeria late on Tuesday, security sources said.

“Two terrorists were killed and weapons were seized during an ambush that National Guard units set up against a terrorist group,” in Kasserine region, National Guard spokesman Col. Major Khelifa Chibani told state news agency TAP.

Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM identified the commander as Mourad Chaieb, the Algerian leader of Okba Bin Nafaa, a group that has skirmished for years with security forces in Tunisia’s mountainous interior.

Its members are mainly aligned with Al-Qaeda’s north African branch, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, which has a presence over the border in eastern Algeria. Some fighters have switched their loyalty to Islamic State.

Chaieb is a brother of the former leader of the group, Khaled Chaieb, who was killed by security forces two years ago.

Tunisia has been on high alert since 2015, when Islamic State gunmen killed dozens of foreign tourists in two attacks at a museum in the capital, Tunis, and on a beach in the resort city of Sousse.

The country also faces a potential threat from Tunisian militants returning from abroad. More than 3,000 are thought to have left to fight for jihadist groups in Syria, Iraq and Libya over the past four years.

2 ISIS members die in IED attack near Shirqat

Shirqat (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State leader was killed along with his brother in an IED blast, north of Salahuddin, a local source said on Wednesday.

“An IS member in charge of one of the security committees in the western coast of Shirqat town was killed along with his brother as a bomb planted under his vehicle exploded near his house,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, told AlSumaria News.

The source blamed the murder of several leaders and members of the group in western Shirqat over the past few months on presence of opponents of the group and infighting among the militants.

On Tuesday, an IS leader known as abu Dajana al-Muhajir, in charge of the group’s intelligence in the so-called ‘Al-Jabal State’, located between Salahuddin and Diyala provinces, was killed in an armed attack in Shirqat.

At least 170 IS militants were reportedly killed earlier this week in airstrikes launched by the Iraqi army jets in the town.

In September, Iraqi army said its forces recaptured the western coast of the town, located south of Mosul lies on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias. The eastern coast of Shirqat, is still under the IS control.

Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, are still held by the militants posing threats to the liberated regions. IS havens are expected to be targeted by the Iraqi government, after security achieved victory in Mosul, the group’s biggest stronghold in Iraq.

Arabia
Houthis continue to threaten Red Sea navigation
Riyadh – For the second time in ten days, international maritime navigation in the Red Sea came under direct threat from Yemen’s Houthi militias.

Official reports stated that the militias launched a ballistic missile towards south of Red Sea near al-Mandeb Strait through which a third of the world’s oil carriers pass.

Sources said the missile most likely fell in international waters in the Red Sea.

The missile, launched from Hajjah governorate, is the second threat to the navigation in the Red Sea following the attack on al-Mokha port with a bomb-laden boat.

The attack was deemed by the Saudi-led coalition as a threaten to the international navigation and regional and international security. The coalition added that the threat impeded the arrival of humanitarian and relief aid to the Yemeni people.

Only three months after operation Decisive Storm was launched in 2015, Houthis began targeting navigation in the Red Sea. Back then, the coalition forces took control of an island which the militants made a storage for ready-to-launch missiles.

As the Yemeni army takes control of larger areas of the country, militias are trying to implement a “preemptive” strategy by escalating attacks, whether against Saudi territories or threatening the security of international navigation.

Head of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saudi Shura Council Zuhair al-Harthi believed that the attempts to impede the navigation is Iran’s main goal through its Houthi affiliates, who had been trained in Lebanon’s Bekaa region under the supervision of the Iran-backed “Hezbollah”.

Harthi informed Asharq Al-Awsat that main goal is to expand Tehran’s presence in the region by destabilizing countries that overlook the Mandeb Strait.

According to his analysis, Iran is using Houthis to destabilize Saudi Arabia’s security through targeting Red Sea navigation.

He underlined the strategic location of Yemen from a geopolitical point of view, noting that it lies south of the largest oil-producing country in the world, overlooks Mandeb Strait and faces the Horn of Africa.

Harthi called on the international community to unite to confront Iran and its continuous attempts to create a chaos in the Red Sea by supporting Houthis pirates. He reiterated that any Iranian control of the Mandeb Strait will affect the international oil supply and create economic turmoil.

He stressed that Iran must be held accountable for its transgressions, adding that it is important for the stability of the region and safety of international navigation.

Kurd rebel forces kill 29 ISIS Bad Guys in Raqqa
[ARA News] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Wednesday killed at least 29 ISIS jihadists and freed 264 civilians from the Nazlat Shehadeh neighbourhood, southern Raqqa, the SDF Media Centre reported.

“Among the main tasks of the SDF troops is to maintain the safety of civilians. The SDF factions have therefore opened safe corridors and rescued hundreds of people who had been trapped in Raqqa,” the SDF said.

“In Nazlat Shehadeh, south of the city, a group of civilians tried to reach the points liberated by our forces. However, a landmine planted by ISIS terrorists in the neighbourhood killed a number of civilians and injuring eight others, including two women,” the SDF said.

“Immediately afterwards, the SDF-led Special Forces for the Liberation of Civilians intervened, liberated 264 civilians and transported the wounded to hospitals for treatment, while two of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition,” the SDF said.

Special teams were also able to retrieve the bodies of civilian victims who lost their lives due to mines.

In the meanwhile, heavy clashes continued between the US-backed SDF troops and ISIS militants in Raqqa city.

“The four fronts in the city witnessed heavy battles and clashes today. The fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces made significant progress and killed 29 ISIS terrorists,” the SDF-Media Centre reported.

The Syrian Democratic Forces made a progress in the neighbourhood of Nazlat Shehadeh south of the city, and killed seven ISIS terrorists there, one of them was a sniper.

Furthermore, on the southern side of Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik neighborhood, six ISIS militants were killed in clashes with the SDF. Also, in Al-Barid district northwest of Raqqa, the SDF killed at least five ISIS fighters.

“The SDF inflicted heavy losses on ISIS, destroying a car bomb before it reached its goal, and shot down a reconnaissance drone of ISIS,” the SDF leadership said. “In the Rawda neighborhood – northeast of the city, there were also heavy clashes on Wednesday, where at least seven ISIS terrorists were killed,” the SDF said.

The clashes are still continuing on all fronts in Raqqa city. So far, the SDF has liberated 50 to 55 per cent of the city.

by federal agents in September 2016 as he was preparing to attack a US military service member.

He was accompanied by a person who was a paid FBI informant, court records show.

Nelash, a Bangladeshi citizen who is a legal US resident, was indicted for attempting to provide support to the Islamic State from October 2015 to September 2016, the Justice Department said in a statement.

The statement and the indictment gave no details about the charge of attempting to murder an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Nelash also was indicted on a firearms offense.

Officials were not immediately available to comment.

The three-count indictment supersedes a charge filed shortly after his arrest.

Nelash told the informant that he was committed to attacking a military service member, adding, "That’s my goal in life," according to an October 2016 affidavit.

Nelash remains in jug and if convicted faces up to life in prison. His attorney, federal public defender Julie Stelzig, did not respond to requests for comment.

For the past 70 years, not a single prime minister has been allowed to complete his or her tenure, he observed.

"We have to make sure that the mandate of the people is respected in the future. We will do this in the interest of Pakistain," he said, adding that until the mandate of people is not respected, Pakistain can not progress.

Posters handed out at the rally.

China, New Zealand urge Trump not to 'escalate' a 'very tense' situation
[DAWN] China responded to President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's apocalyptic "fire and fury" threat against North Korea by pointedly warning on Wednesday against any rhetoric that could inflame tensions over Pyongyang's weapons programmes.

Calling the situation on the Korean Peninsula "complicated and sensitive", China's foreign ministry issued a statement warning that parties involved in the impasse should avoid "words and actions that escalate the situation".

The ministry had been asked to respond to Trump's comment on Tuesday that North Korea would "be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen" if it did not refrain from further bellicose threats against the US.

New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English echoed China, saying that Trump's comments about North Korea are "not helpful" in an environment that is "very tense." He further said that the US president's comments are more likely to escalate the situation than to settle it.

7 arrested in raid on Karachi seminary suspected of facilitating TTP
[DAWN] Sindh Police's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday conducted a search operation in a Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
seminary allegedly linked with the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) and detained seven persons for interrogation, CTD Senior Superintendent Police Omar Shahid Hamid said Tuesday.

Speaking to the press, the CTD official said that a team, along with district administration and district police, had conducted a search operation in the al-Kareem Islamic Academy located in Karachi's SITE area.

Shahid claimed that the seminary had been established by Mufti Shakir, a "dangerous terrorist and TTP commander".

"Mufti Shakir is responsible for a number of police murders in District Central and West in 2013-14, and is suspected of involvement in the murder of Police Superintendent Chaudhry Aslam," added the officer.

Mufti Shakir was revealed to be the criminal mastermind behind a group that was "neutralised" by the CTD on August 7 after three suspected holy warriors were killed in an encounter in the Machhar Colony area of the city.

"The killed holy warriors had been planning large-scale attacks in Karachi," Hamid claimed.

"He [Mufti Shakir] is also suspected to be behind at least one group that is involved in police killings in Karachi," he said.

Four coppers were bumped off in an attack in the SITE area in June, while July also saw at least two deadly attacks on police in the metropolis.

Broke Chicago Public School System Lays Off 356 Teachers
[DAILYCALLER] Officials with the perpetually insolvent reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
Public School system laid off 356 teachers and nearly 600 school support staffers this week.

The teachers and other employees received their pink slips from the taxpayer-funded school district on Monday, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

Chicago’s elementary schools will have 240 fewer teachers this fall. Second City high schools will have 116 fewer teachers.

In addition to the 356 teachers, Chicago Public School officials also sacked 362 classroom aides and 221 employees who were security guards and special education aides.

Chicago Teachers Union spokeswoman Stacy Davis Gates blamed an ongoing budget battle between Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner in particular for the layoffs.

"Ultimately, the mayor has to stop waiting on a man who allowed the entire state to go without a budget for two years," Gates told the Sun-Times. "If we’re waiting on Bruce Rauner to figure out how to equitably fund CPS, it’s not going to happen."

Iraq
10 ISIS Turbans Tango Uniform in airstrikes near Rawa

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Ten Islamic State militants were killed in an airstrike in western Anbar, Jazeera Operations Command announced.

“The U.S.-led coalition shelled IS rest houses and two booby-trapped vehicles in the towns of Anah and Rawa,” Maj.Gen. Qassim al-Mohammadi, commander of the Jazeera Operations, told AlSumaria News on Wednesday.

“The shelling left ten militants killed,” Mohammadi added.

On Sunday, an army source was quoted saying that coalition jets bombed the group’s so-called Hisbah (vigilantes) office in Anah, west of Anbar.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

Lt.Gen Abdul-Amir Yarallah, commander of the Nineveh Operations, ordered to besiege IS havens in western Anbar preparing to invade them, a military source said in late July.

Iraqi fighter jets reportedly dropped millions of leaflets informing locals that liberation offensives for the province were nearing.

Iraq militia stop ISIS attack near Syrian border

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government Shi’ite militias of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) has repulsed an attack by the Islamic State (IS) north of al-Waleed border crossing in western Anbar, Alsumaria News reported on Wednesday.

A source from the government told Alsumaria News that the IS launched an attack on a headquarter of al-Hashd al-Shaabi north of al-Waleed border crossing.

“Violent clashes took place between al-Hashd al-Shaabi forces and IS militants,” the source added, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Al-Hashd al-Shaabi repulsed the attack and caused losses among the attackers”.

Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, an alliance of more than 60 mostly Shia militias, has been actively engaged in the government’s campaign against the Islamic State that ran since mid-October, and contributed to the campaign by regaining control over IS holdouts near the Syrian borders.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Fighting in Homs turns into a meat grinder
Dozens of regime forces and militants have been killed in central Syria as the ISIS group strives to hold off a regime advance there, a monitor said Wednesday.

With Russian backing, Syria’s army has been waging a months-long offensive to recapture the vast desert region that stretches from the country’s center to the Iraqi and Jordanian borders.

It has captured swathes of territory from ISIS in the central province of Homs, but the militants have ramped up their counter-offensives there.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said ISIS had dispatched at least five suicide car bombs and had laid mines throughout several frontline towns in Homs.

At least 39 government forces were killed and another 25 wounded since Tuesday, the Britain-based Observatory said.

“The regime has spread itself across a long frontline, and now ISIS is intensifying its counter-attacks,” said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

According to Abdel Rahman, 30 IS fighters were also killed over the past 24 hours in clashes with regime fighters and in Russian air strikes.

Syrian state news agency SANA confirmed Wednesday that air strikes had targeted IS positions, including an ammunitions depot, in Homs province.

The Syrian “Badiya” is a large stretch of desert that extends over some 90,000 square kilometers (35,000 square miles) of territory.

Since 2015, much of the Badiya has been held by the militant group, but Syria’s army has been chipping away at it since May.

On Saturday, the Observatory said regime forces had ousted ISIS from Al-Sukhna, the last militant-held town in Homs province.

There has been no official confirmation of Al-Sukhna’s capture from Syria’s government.

More than 330,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict erupted in March 2011 with anti-government protests.

It has since morphed into a complex war involving regional and international players.

The Yemeni forces also struck Saudi military sites near Mesyal and in several other area.

Yemen has been since March 2015 under a brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition. Thousands of Yemenis have been injured and martyred in Saudi-led strikes, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

The coalition has been also imposing a blockade on the impoverished country’s ports and airports as a part of his aggression which is aimed at restoring power to fugitive former president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

However, the revolutionary forces of Ansarullah and the popular committees have been heroically confronting the aggression with all means.

ISIS executes 27 in Kirkuk

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants have executed 27 civilians in their Kirkuk stronghold, the last of a series of occasional executions of Iraqis in their grip.

A local source told Alsumaria News Wednesday that the execution took place at al-Bakkara military base in Hawija, southwest Kirkuk.

The source, who said the militant group had set on a series of executions of non-compliant prisoners recently, did not explain the reason for the latest incident.

Since IS militants took over large parts of Iraq in 2014 to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate”, they executed thousands of civilians for a variety of reasons ranging from collaboration with security forces to escaping group havens and violating the group’s religious directives.

Hawija is one of the future targets of Iraqi military offensives. The government declared early July it regained control over the city of Mosul, the militants’ former capital.

Local tribal leaders and politicians from Kirkuk have mounted pressure on the Iraqi government to hasten with invading Hawija, suggesting that its people were experiencing a humanitarian crisis under the group’s rule as the group continues to massacre civilians attempting to flee the town. The government and military commanders have set Nineveh’s town of Tal Afar as the next target for operations.

3K corpses remain in Old Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Rubbles from more than eight months of battles between Iraqi forces and Islamic State militants in Mosul are still holding 3000 dead civilians’ bodies beneath, a relief team commander said.

Mohamed Abdul-Sattar al-Hamadani, a commander of the third division of the Iraqi Civil Defense forces, was quoted Wednesday saying that 3000 corpses remain under the rubble in the Old City district. He said 839 new bodies had been extracted from different Mosul areas in three days.

“Some corpses have been run on by tractors during removal of debris, and that is due to volunteers’ ignorance of the correct way of searching for civilians under the rubble,” Hamadani stated.

“We believe there are at least 3000 dead bodies under the rubble, especially in the western side of the Old City. Bab al-Toub and Rajm Hadid neighborhoods had been levelled, and nobody came alive from there,” he added.

The medieval Old City was the birthplace of the Islamic State. It was from its Grand Nuri Mosque that IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the establishment of the group’s rule in Iraq and Syria.

The Iraqi government said early July it retook full control over Mosul from IS. The military command said more than 1000 civilians were killed in the campaign.

ISIS executes one of its politicians in Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor (Syria News) The self-proclaimed Islamic State has executed, yesterday, one of its elite Legislators in the city of Mayadin, east of Deir Ezzor.

Local sources told Qasioun News, today, that the Islamic State group executed its prominent Legislator Abu Bakr al-Qahtani, due to a dispute between him and one of leaders, in an attempt to turn on the radical group.

The strongholds of the Islamic State in the city of Albukamal, east of Deir Ezzor, have previously witnessed vague security operations, resulting in the killing of several members of the Islamic State group, and forced the latter to impose a security cordon on the area.

It is noteworthy that the Islamic State group lost a wide range of areas in the Syrian Badiyah and the countryside of Raqqa.

ISIS punishes 4 wimmin for using cell phone

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants punished four women at their Kirkuk stronghold with biting and whipping for using cell phones without their knowledge, a local source said Wednesday.

The source told Alsumaria News that IS’s so-called “women police” raided one house in central Hawija (55 km southwest of Kirkuk) searching for “communication tools locals use to contact their relatives and check on them”.

Finding an SIM card at one part of the house, the female vigilantes arrested four women from the household, and referred them to the group’s judges who sentenced them to three lashes and the fourth, an elder, to ten “bites” in the hands and the back, according to the source.

Biting had been a common punishment for civilian women who violate IS militants’ daily life directives.

The Islamic State has executed hundreds of civilians for contacting security forces and collaborating with them at areas under its control, and has always been stringent regarding the use of communication equipment.

IS has held Kirkuk since 2014, and the town is one of the next targets for Iraqi forces which managed in July to retake the group’s former proclaimed “capital”: Mosul.

6 arrested in Iran for teaching Zumba

TEHRAN: Four boys and two girls have been arrested in Iran for teaching “Western” dance moves including Zumba, a Colombian fitness routine, a local Revolutionary Guards commander said.

“The members of a network teaching and filming Western dances have been identified and arrested,” said Hamid Damghani, commander of the Guards in the town of Sharhoud in Iran’s northeastern Semnan province, according to Jamejam Online website late on Tuesday.

“The team attracted boys and girls, taught them Western dances and published their video clips on social media apps like Telegram and Instagram,” he added. “They were arrested by the Guards’ intelligence forces while teaching and creating video clips... as they sought to change lifestyles and promote a lack of hijab,” he said. They were charged with dancing and failing to wear proper clothing.

Women in Iran are banned from dancing in front of men outside their immediate families, but in recent years Zumba and other dances have been banned even in women-only gyms, even if the rules are widely flouted.

“The promotion and teaching of dancing in the name of sport in women’s gyms is a serious issue,” Damghani said. In 2014, seven young Iranians were arrested for dancing to Pharrell Williams’s hit “Happy” in a homemade video that went viral on the Internet. They were given suspended jail and lashing sentences.

...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, saying that office has been established with an aim to seek ways for the peace talks and reconciliation.

The Saudi Arabia Charge d’Affaires in Kabul said Monday that the stance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is that it condemns any move through violence and insurgency against the government of Afghanistan as a terrorist act.

He also added that the kingdom considers the Taliban group as an ’anti-government terrorist group’.

This comes as the pressures are on the rise against the insurgency led by the Taliban group amid soaring violence across the country, mainly led by the Taliban myrmidons.

Arabia
50 refugees drowned off the coast of Shabwa
JEDDAH: A human smuggler, in charge of a boat, forced more than 120 Somali and Ethiopian migrants into the pitching sea on Wednesday as they approached the coast of Shabwa, a Yemeni governorate along the Arabian Sea, the Internation Organization of Migratgion (IOM) said.

The migrants had been hoping to reach countries in the Gulf via Yemen, the UN migration agency said.

Shortly after the tragedy, staff from IOM found the shallow graves of 29 migrants on a beach in Shabwa, during a routine patrol. The dead had been buried rapidly by those who survived the smuggler’s deadly actions. IOM is working closely with the International Committee of the Red Cross to ensure appropriate care for the deceased migrants’ remains.

IOM’s medical staff also provided urgent care to the 27 surviving migrants, both females and males, who had remained on the beach. IOM provided initial health checks and assistance, including food, water and other emergency relief. Some of the survivors had already left the beach before being assisted. 22 migrants are reportedly still missing and unaccounted for. The approximate average age of the passengers on the boat was 16.

The migrants had been hoping to reach countries in the Gulf via Yemen.
“The survivors told our colleagues on the beach that the smuggler pushed them to the sea, when he saw some ‘authority types’ near the coast,” explained Laurent de Boeck, the IOM Yemen Chief of Mission. “They also told us that the smuggler has already returned to Somalia to continue his business and pick up more migrants to bring to Yemen on the same route.

This is shocking and inhumane. The suffering of migrants on this migration route is enormous. Too many young people pay smugglers with the false hope of a better future,” continued de Boeck.

Since January 2017 to date, IOM estimates that around 55,000 migrants left the Horn of Africa to come to Yemen, most with the aim of trying to find better opportunities in the Gulf countries. More than 30,000 of those migrants are under the age of 18 from Somalia and Ethiopia, while a third are estimated to be female.

This journey is especially hazardous during the current windy season in the Indian Ocean. Smugglers are active in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, offering fake promises to vulnerable migrants. IOM and its partners operate across the region to support these migrants and provide lifesaving assistance to those who find themselves abused or stranded along the route.

Britain
Gang convicted of sex offences against vulnerable girls in England
[AlAhram] A gang of 18 people has been found guilty of trafficking and sexually abusing vulnerable teenage girls and young women for several years in northern England, prosecutors said on Wednesday, in the latest shocking case of its kind in Britannia.

The men raped or assaulted the victims after drugging them or threatening them with violence at specially-convened "parties" ‐ often referred to as "sessions" ‐ where they were supplied with drugs and alcohol.

Some were so inebriated they were abused while unconscious.

The offenders were predominantly Asian and aged in their 30s and 40s, raising echoes of a number of similar cases in Britannia which led to accusations the authorities had feared to get involved in case they were accused of racism.

"There has been no political correctness here," said Northumbria Police Chief Constable Steve Ashman. "These are criminals and there has been no hesitation in arresting them and targeting them using all the means at our disposal."

"It is for individual communities to ask themselves whether they are doing all they can to eradicate such attitudes and behaviour."

A major inquiry into historical child sex abuse, one of the largest and most expensive ever undertaken in Britannia, began in February and is due to last five years.
Prosecutors said the gang, 17 men and one woman, had targeted 13 white girls and women, aged from 15 to their early 20s, in the city of Newcastle in northwest England between 2010 and 2014. The offenders were found guilty following four trials, the last of which concluded on Tuesday.

Three have been nabbed
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
and the others are awaiting sentence.

Operation Sanctuary
Ashman said the wider police investigation into sexual exploitation in the area, known as Operation Sanctuary, was the largest and most intricate operation his force had ever undertaken. In total officers had placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
461 people, leading to 93 convictions, he said.

"Most of the offenders are not white. They are from a really diverse section so we have people from Bangladesh, from Pakistain, from Iran, from Iraq, people who are Kurdish, Ottoman Turkish, Albanian, eastern European," he said.

Ashman also defended the decision, heavily criticised by a child protection charity, to pay a convicted child rapist about 10,000 pounds to act as an informant, saying he had helped police to prevent and detect serious crimes.

Newcastle City Council said more than 700 victims had been identified as part of Operation Sanctuary.

"We do not believe that what we have uncovered in Newcastle is unique," said Pat Ritchie, the council's chief executive. "Sadly, there is evidence of sexual exploitation in just about every other town and city in the country and anyone who says they do not have it are not looking for it."

Britannia has been rocked by a series of child sex abuse scandals in recent years, the most shocking taking place in the northern town of Rotherham where a 2014 report concluded that as many as 1,400 children were sexually abused by gangs of mainly Asian men over a 16-year period.

A major inquiry into historical child sex abuse, one of the largest and most expensive ever undertaken in Britannia, began in February and is due to last five years.

Afghanistan
Taliban continues attacks in Paktia
Taliban insurgents have again attacked Janikhail district of eastern Paktia province on Tuesday night and clashes with the security forces continue, security source said on Wednesday.

The clashes took place after the insurgents attacked security check posts in the district and “reinforcements are needed urgently,” according to the source.

Janikhail fell into hands of the insurgents two weeks ago but security forces were able to recapture the district on Friday.

Before the latest attacks, local officials had said that the lack of sufficient forces last week led to the collapse of strategic district and have called on the central government, particularly the Ministry of Interior (MoI), to address the shortcomings of police in the volatile region.

Police officials in Paktia were warned that if more forces were not dispatched to the area, there is the possibility that Janikhail would once again fall to the Taliban insurgents.

However, the source said that to date no reinforcement have been deployed to the district.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Thomas Sowell Perfectly Predicted How The Left Will Defend Affirmative Action
[Daily Wire] The Trump Justice Department recently announced to its civil rights division through an internal memo that it would begin "investigations and possible litigation related to intentional race-based discrimination in college and university admissions." The Left responded by shamelessly insisting that Attorney General Jeff Sessions wanted to promote the enshrinement of white nationalism in admissions processes.

Kristen Clarke, the president of the liberal Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, insisted even challenging the notion of Affirmative Action "could invite a lot of chaos and unnecessarily create hysteria among colleges and universities who may fear that the government may come down on them for their efforts to maintain diversity on their campuses."

I cannot help but reflect on these wise words from Thomas Sowell: "Some things are believed because they are demonstrably true, but many other things are believed simply because they have been asserted repeatedly."

The black Hoover Institution economist has spent years proving the vitriolic language and policies of the Left have disproportionately hurt minorities’ socioeconomic wellbeing across the country and around the globe.

Now the DOJ has challenged Affirmative Action due to empirical evidence proving it damages majority and minority groups alike. One recent Princeton University study revealed that Affirmative Action policies gave black students a bonus of 230 points on SAT scores based on the 1600 scale. Meanwhile, Asian applicants were penalized 50 points. Despite the facts, the Left is in a panic.

Clarke argues that the Civil Rights Division was "created and launched to deal with the unique problem of discrimination faced by our nation’s most oppressed minority groups," revealing that the leftist concept of "intersectionality" has crept into institutions obligated to protect the civil rights of all peoples. Yet, it is proven affirmative action disproportionately affects Asian and Jewish communities.

Parts of downtown Milwaukee are quite nice....during the daytime.

Then there's the serious rise in carjacking at controlled intersections near the freeway entrances. Local LibRag newspapers don't report on that much, though.

Afghanistan
Opium fuels the stalemate in America's longest war
[CNN]
  • Peter Bergen writes that the resurgent Taliban have captured almost all of the key poppy-growing Afghan province of Helmand

  • Opium production provides billions in revenue for the Taliban and it supports their fighting force, he writes
Programming note: Learn more about how a US undercover operation captured a top Afghan narco-terrorist on CNN's Original Series "Declassified" Saturday August 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Peter Bergen is CNN's national security analyst, a vice president at New America and a professor of practice at Arizona State University. He is the author of "United States of Jihad: Investigating America's Homegrown Terrorists." This article was first published in 2016.
It's a timely subject. Al Ahram has a complementary article -- both are worth reading:
From poppy to heroin: Taliban move into Afghan drug production

The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
-- which banned poppy cultivation when it ruled Afghanistan -- now appears to wield significant control over the war-torn country's heroin production line, providing murderous Moslems with billions of dollars, officials have told AFP. In 2016 Afghanistan, which produces 80 percent of the world's opium, made around 4,800 tonnes of the drug bringing in revenues of three billion dollars, according to the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
The Taliban has long taxed poppy-growing farmers to fund their years-long insurgency, but Western officials are concerned it is now running its own factories, refining the lucrative crop into morphine and heroin for exporting abroad.

"I pretty firmly feel they are processing all the harvest," William Brownfield, US Assistant Secretary for Drugs and Law Enforcement told news hounds in the Afghan capital Kabul recently.

Everything they harvest is duly processed inside the country. They receive more revenues if they process it before it has left the country.

"Obviously we are dealing with very loose figures, but drug trafficking amounts to billions of dollars every year from which the Taliban is taking a substantial percentage," he added.

Poppies, which are cheap and easy to grow, make up half of Afghanistan's entire agricultural output.

Farmers are paid about $163 for a kilo of the black sap -- the raw opium that oozes out of poppy seed pods when they are slit with a knife.

Once it is refined into heroin, the Taliban sells it in regional markets for between $2,300 and $3,500 a kilo. By the time it reaches Europe it wholesales for $45,000, according to a Western expert who is advising Afghan anti-narcotics forces and asked not to be named.

He said an increase in seizures of chemicals required to turn opium into morphine, the first step before it becomes heroin, such as acid anhydride, points to an escalation in Taliban drug activity.

Sixty-six tonnes of the chemicals were seized in all of 2016, while 50 tonnes were impounded in just the first six months of this year, the expert said.

In early July, he said, 15 tonnes were confiscated in the west of Afghanistan near the border with Iran, the start of a popular drug route to Europe through The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
- 'Helmand is all about drugs' -
Seizures of morphine have also increased. Fifty-seven tonnes were discovered in the first half of 2017 compared to 43 tonnes for the whole of 2016, added the expert, who said that only about 10 percent of what is produced is actually discovered.

"It's easy to build a rudimentary laboratory -- walls of cob, a thatched roof -- and when the operation is finished it is evacuated," the source told AFP.

Afghanistan's interior ministry said that between January and June, 46 clandestine drug factories were closed down by anti-narcotics officers compared with 16 in the first half of last year.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration predicts that the crackdown has deprived traffickers of about $300 million in income since the turn of the year.

A senior Western official who asked not to be named was adamant that the Taliban have their own laboratories, describing the southern province of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, where an estimated 80 percent of Afghan poppies are grown, as a "big drug factory".

"Helmand is all about drugs, poppy and Taliban. The majority of their funding comes from the poppy, morphine labs, heroin labs. Of course they have their own labs," he told AFP.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) opium production provided about half of the Taliban's revenues in 2016. David Dadge, a front man for UNODC, says there is "anecdotal evidence" that Taliban Überstürmbannführers are involved in the manufacture of opiates, but says that stops short of proving that the Taliban as an organization has a systematic programme of running factories.

#3  So the addiction of many in the West to opioids is the root cause of the continuing carnage in Afghanistan. WHY are so many falling into the opium trap? What can be done to help them? If nothing, then perhaps we should just buy all the opium directly from the farmers and give it away free - overall it would probably cost less in both lives and dollars.
