Vigilante protesters start DIGGING UP body of Confederate general and KKK leader Nathan Forrest from his grave

#1  We wondered when this bullshit would begin.

All confederate graves are considered by law to be US veterans. Doesn't matter what you think about Forrest, he is a US vet and you have desecrated a veteran's grave.

Further action will result in your idiot asses being buried next to him.

#4  in January 1869, faced with an ungovernable membership employing methods that seemed increasingly counterproductive, Forrest issued KKK General Order Number One: “It is therefore ordered and decreed, that the masks and costumes of this Order be entirely abolished and destroyed.” [63]
In August 1874, Forrest “volunteered to help ‘exterminate’ those men responsible for the continued violence against the blacks.” After the murder of four blacks by a lynch mob after they were arrested for defending themselves at a BBQ, Forrest wrote to Tennessee Governor Brown, offering “to exterminate the white marauders who disgrace their race by this cowardly murder of Negroes.” [64]

#8  I do not think that the progressive wing of the American Socialist Party knows what it has unleashed. Those that do are pouring gas on the fire because at a minimum it will cripple our national will/unity on any number of foreign policy issues. Combining the goals of the antifa anarchists with Black Lives Matter and big lefty money is producing a toxic sludge that will create an enormous backlash of traditional American anger. The violence will widen the divide much more and our way of life and Mans best hope for the future may be irreparably harmed.

Philippines' Duterte praises police killings of 32 drug suspects, urges more
[NewsAsia] MANILA: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday (Aug 16) urged police to kill dozens of drug suspects every day, as he praised officers who shot dead 32 people this week in "shock and awe" raids.

Duterte's incendiary comments came as he acknowledged major problems in his drug war, which has claimed thousands of lives, admitting he could not win it as quickly as promised and lamenting a corrupt police force.

In one of the deadliest operations of the war, police reported killing 32 people in raids on Monday on suspected drug traffickers in Bulacan province, which neighbours the capital of Manila.

"The ones who died recently in Bulacan, 32, in a massive raid, that was good," Duterte said in a speech to an anti-crime organisation that has backed the drug war. "If we could kill another 32 everyday, then maybe we can reduce what ails this country."

Baltimore removes four Confederate statues - Civility, Law and order returning soon
[The Hill] The city of Baltimore removed all four of its Confederate statues fTuesday night and into the early morning Wednesday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The Baltimore City Council on Monday approved a measure to remove the statues and crews began work removing them at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

By 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, all four of the statues were removed, according to the city’s mayor, Catherine Pugh.

"It’s done," Pugh told the Baltimore Sun Wednesday morning. "They needed to come down. My concern is for the safety and security of our people. We moved as quickly as we could."

The city’s decisions came in the wake of the deadly Charlottesville, Va., rally, where white supremacists and neo-Nazis marched to protest the planned removal of a Confederate statue from a city park. The event sparked counter protesters and turned violent when driver with ties to the white supremacists rammed his car into a crowd of counter protesters.

One woman died and at least a dozen people were injured in the rally.

Terror Networks
Terrorism expert Steve Emmerson sez McMaster won't use the term 'radical Islam.'
BLUF:
[Breitbart] Stated Emerson - "Nearly the entire liberal/left wing media spectrum have been continuously condemning President Trump for not condemning by name the ultra-white nationalist groups who came out for battle on Saturday in Charlottesville instead of condemning the generalized categories of "hate and bigotry." In fact, we also criticized that hesitation to name the neo-Nazi coalition, but at least the President condemned them by name on Monday."

"But by the scurrilous standards of McMaster and the 8 years of the Obama Administration, a generalized statement against "violent extremism" should have been enough for the events on Saturday. But of course, that meaningless euphemism invoked by Obama, to the murderous applause of a compliant media, meant absolutely nothing. And in fact, only emboldened the quest for power by radical Islamic front groups over truly moderate Islamic reform groups and leaders. That McMaster is pursuing the same refusal to condemn radical Islamic terrorism by name is a threat to our national security."

#4  I'm not sure 'radical islam" is a very good term.

The moslem brotherhood is a major threat, they aren't really radical; CAIR is a threat, they aren't 'radical'.

Then again, the Ahmadi moslems are radical in the sense that they accept a post Mohammad prophet and they are non violent (although maybe a bit obnoxious in pretending that all Islam is non violent)

Stone Mountain Memorial? That didn't take long.
[Breitbart] As fights over Confederate monuments continue across the country, liberals are again gearing up to force the state of Georgia to destroy the giant carvings of three Confederate Civil War generals on the side of state-owned Stone Mountain.

This week, Democrat candidate for Gov. Stacey Abrams released a statement calling for the destruction of the 158-foot-long bas-relief first started in 1923, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The African American Democrat called the monument a "blight" on Georgia, and slammed the monument as having been funded by the KKK, despite that it was the state and federal governments that paid for most of its creation.

Abrams laid out her case in a long series of Tweets posted on August 15.

#1  The African American Democrat called the monument a "blight" on Georgia

Oh no, the old granite generals are not the "blight." They were not politicians or lawmakers. They fought for the tragically misguided belief in "states rights.' The "blight" is the long-term second order effects of cheap, imported labor and centralized government.

#3  If every Confederate memorial and statue were taken down and ground to dust this afternoon; if every biography of Lee and Jackson, every painting, book or document, or historical reference was collected and incinerated; nothing would change for these people of hate. Their affliction is not symbolic. Their's is a far deeper, more sinister infirmity that finds it's roots not here, but elsewhere.

Please examine the migratory carnage currently underway in Europe (which has nothing at all to do with the harvesting of cotton) and tell me I am incorrect.

#6  Unfortunately the main states right they fought for was slavery

That's what their leaders fought for. The grunts in the line fought for their brothers (tribes) which the leadership exploited. Back then loyalty to state superseded loyalty to a union of states. Still exists to a certain extent today, usually on Saturdays in the Fall, also in colorful uniforms and marching bands.

#7  Unfortunately the main states right they fought for was slavery

Apparently we're still 'fighting for states rights' as usurped by a bloated, tyrannical central government. The issue this time however, is not slavery, unless slavery is injected to stoke the fires of division, which might appear to be the case.

#11  I will agree with removing Confederate monuments once 1) every piece of "music" containing the "n-word" has been destroyed and the production of more made a death penalty offense, 2) every 18-year-old African American is literate, numerate, knows both their parents, and has a sane, balanced knowledge of world and US history, and, 3) it's been demonstrated that the presence of these monuments is somehow to blame for the persistent barbarism of the inner cities.

#17  Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg address where thousands of fresh graves were being dug for the dead of that battle proclaimed that the US was "One Nation".

To heal the wounds via honor to one another after the civil war, the monuments were built. Indeed, still One Nation. Only this time all men were free and inclusive.

In Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speach he dreamed that people of all colors come together in peace. That would include all Americans past and present.

Tearing down these statues of Americans is the tearing down of the United States of America.

'You're prosecuting the Quran'
The leader of the Islamic Movement's outlawed northern branch, Sheikh Raed Salah, was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of inciting terrorism. The Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court extended Salah's remand by three days.

Salah was arrested for remarks delivered in a speech last month at the funeral of three Israeli Arab gunmen who killed two police officers at the Temple Mount. In the speech, he praised the attackers and exhorted others to follow their example.

Salah told reporters in the courtroom that his arrest was part of a political witch hunt against him.

"I told the investigators I teach at mosques, and I told them (my remarks) were Islamic insights we got from the Sunni Quran," Salah said during his court hearing.

"You are not prosecuting me, you are prosecuting the Quran.

Mueller Raids Manafort's Home – Because He Has Nothing
[American Thinker] When Robert Mueller took the gig with the Department of Justice to lead the silent coup against the Trump administration, things looked great. One hundred percent, or close to it, of the media was reporting different levels and incidents of "Russian collusion."
No your honor, we found nothing, but were were 'just interested in the facts.'
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a close Trump confidant, had recused himself. The deputy AG, Rod Rosenstein, quickly buckled under media pressure to name a Special Counsel where no crime had been found and only an FBI counterintelligence investigation was taking place. No criminal investigation of the president, said the FBI director. Mueller had the chance to overturn an epic election mistake by uninformed American deplorables and be the darling of the swamp for a generation. How could he say no?

That was then, this is now.

Hungary Offers Asylum as Sweden Prepares to Deport Christian Convert Actress to Iran
h/t Gates of Vienna
Hungary has offered asylum to Christian convert Aideen Strandsson because the Swedish government plans to deport her to Iran where she could face prison or even the death penalty for apostasy.

In 2014, Iranian actress Aideen Strandsson came to Sweden on a work visa and applied for asylum after she had converted from Islam to Christianity. The Swedish Migration Board recently denied Strandsson asylum and began the process of deporting her but now the Hungarian government has offered to take her in instead, Nyheter Idag reports.

IRS Rehires 213 Employees Ousted for Falsifying Documents, Avoiding Taxes, Other Offenses
h/t Instapundit
The Internal Revenue Service rehired 213 employees who ducked taxes, falsified documents, were convicted of theft, or made unauthorized use of taxpayer data, an inspector general’s report says.

The Office of Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, which also first discovered the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups in 2013, examined the agency’s hiring from January 2015 through March 2016.

For these 15 months, the IRS official in charge was Commissioner John Koskinen, an appointee of President Barack Obama.

House Republicans for months sought to impeach Koskinen for obstructing a congressional probe into the agency’s targeting of the applications for tax-exempt status made by nonprofit tea party and conservative groups.

Israel will soon become a major exporter of medical cannabis and be one of the only nations in the world to officially export the plant to countries that approved it for medicinal use, all the while marijuana remains an illegal, controlled substance in Israel.

According to estimates, revenues from the export of Israeli cannabis could reach about NIS 1 billion a year.

in Indonesia, a police front man said Tuesday, adding that authorities also confiscated bomb making materials.

The suspects -- a married couple and three other men -- were detained after a raid by anti-terrorism forces on three locations in the city of Bandung West Java, front man Yusri Yunus said.

Police claim the attackers were part of the IS-linked Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) network that has been blamed for a series of recent attacks in Indonesia including one in Jakarta in January 2016 that left four civilians dead.

"We found evidence in one of the suspects’ houses. The evidence is a bomb made of chemical material," he told AFP.

Yunus said the group planned to attack the state palace, a local police headquarters as well as officers in the field.

fighters.

"Our forces are in full control of the village and are searching for Taliban mines and booby traps," Nasratullah Jamshidi told the AFP news agency.

Dawlat Waziri, a front man for the Afghan defence ministry, said its forces had "pushed the Taliban out of the village" on Monday afternoon.

Troops are due to start searching for mass graves following claims by families and local officials that about 50 villagers, including women and kiddies, were either shot or beheaded on August 5.

ISIS on Tuesday grabbed credit for the killings, but officials said it was "a joint operation by ISIS and Taliban fighters".

"They had recruited forces from other provinces of the country and attacked Mirzawalang village," Zabihullah Amani, front man for the provincial governor, said after the attack.

Indonesia graft witness feared for safety over his ‘evidence’ against officials. Now he’s dead in apparent US suicide
[SCMP] A witness in a US$170 million Indonesian graft investigation linked to a national electronic identity card system told a witness protection agency he was worried about his safety just weeks before his suspected suicide in the US, officials said.

Johannes Marliem, 32, whose US-based company had a contract to supply the ID cards, was pronounced dead on Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after a stand-off with police in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Earlier that week, on Tuesday, US Federal Bureau of Investigation officers executed a federal search warrant at the same residence, said FBI spokesperson Laura Eimiller, declining to give further details.

Last month, Marliem, had been in contact with Indonesia’s Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) on several occasions and also told media he had evidence in the form of digital recordings of his dealings with Indonesian politicians implicated in the scandal.

Armed Venezuelan Soldiers Caught in Guyana Begging For Food
[MiamiHerald] A handful of Venezuelan soldiers -- armed and in uniform -- were caught in neighboring Guyana last week begging for food, local police reported, another sign of Venezuela’s deepening hunger crisis.

Guyanese Police Inspector Christopher Humphrey said he’d gone to the border along the Amacuro river, which divides the two nations, to investigate reports that the Venezuelan military was stealing food from locals. But the three soldiers he encountered -- two carrying military assault rifles -- said they had come to beg for meals and hadn’t harmed anyone.

Humphrey said the men had crossed into Guyana on a wooden raft and seemed genuinely hungry.

"They were desperate," he told the Miami Herald. "They were here for some time and they showed me a can of sardines and the place where they had cooked it over a fire."

Guyana Guardian newspaper, which first reported the story, said the men had been given some additional food and then sent back across the border.

Security forces uncover Hamas terrorist payment network
[Ynet] Shin Bet and police forces uncover a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", payment network that provided financial assistance to the families of convicted terrorists, including the mother of a terrorist who carried out the kidnapping and murder of Sgt. Nachshon Wachsman in 1994; security forces raid homes of families, seize NIS 100,000 in cash.

Shin Bet and police forces uncovered a network of money transfers from Hamas to the families of convicted terrorists, including the mother of Tarek Abu-Arafa, who took part in the 1994 kidnapping and murder of IDF soldier Nachson Wachsman.

According to police and the Shin Bet, the financial transfers uncovered were managed by Hamas operatives from the Gazoo Strip. The purpose of the transfers was to provide financial support to the families of murderous Moslems with the intent of encouraging more terrorism.

Minister of Defense Avigdor Lieberman ordered the funds seized and overnight Monday, security forces raided the homes of families receiving funds from Hamas.

More than NIS 100,000 in cash was seized along with one vehicle.

The raids were carried out in Ras al-Amud, Beit Hanina, Isawiya and Wadi al-Joz in east Jerusalem.

According to security forces, other families of convicted murderous Moslems include: Ahmad Fathi Abu Shaban, who carried out a stabbing attack at the Jerusalem Central Bus Station in 2015; Musab Razala, who stabbed two coppers near IDF Square in Jerusalem in 2015; Omar Saqafi who carried out a combined vehicular and stabbing attack in Jerusalem; Hassan Mahani, who stabbed two people in Pisgat Ze'ev in 2015, and many others.

, have been seeking to increase their recruitment of Gazook jihadists to IS in Sinai, a senior jihadist in Gazoo has told Breitbart Jerusalem.

"The actions of the Egyptian army in Sinai cause losses to our brothers in Sinai and the leadership of Wilyat Sinai wants to increase the pace of recruitment of mujahedeen from among the youth in the Gazoo Strip. The numbers coming from the Strip, our brothers explain, are unable to make up the losses caused to the mujahedeen in the Sinai," said jihadist Abou Baker al-Maqdesi.

According to the Egyptian air force, Arclight airstrikes have been increasing over the past few weeks. Without citing any evidence, Maqdisi claimed Egypt is being aided by the Israeli Air Force.

"The air force of the Jewish enemy explains the rise in losses among our brothers, the mujahedeen, since the pilots of the infidel Egyptian army were inaccurate, but now the strikes are much more precise and so our brothers in Sinai need additional power from the Gazoo Strip."

Al-Maqdesi said that Wilyat Sinai is recruiting jihadists from the Strip because many are or were members of Paleostinian jihadist organizations, meaning they are better trained than the young men who join the group from the Bedouin tribes in Sinai.
Ouch. And yet the Israeli Bedouin do just fine in the Israeli army, for some reason.

20+ ISIS Bad Guys die in western Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) More than twenty Islamic State militants were killed as Iraqi troops and U.S.-led coalition shelled the group’s locations in western Anbar, according to sources.

“The Iraqi army’s artillery shelled on Tuesday IS reinforcements in desert of Annah town, leaving no less than twenty militants killed,” Lt. Col. Yasser al-Dulaimi, of the military, told DPA.

The shelling, according to Dulaimi, comes within arrangements by the army to carry out offensives to liberate western regions.

“Iraqi army carries out daily military operations in the same region to reduce the group’s powers in Anbar desert and to secure the roads leading to borders with Jordan and Saudi Arabia,” he added.

In related news, a security source told Alghad Press that the U.S.-led coalition jets shelled the militant group’s locations in Qaim town, located west of Anbar.

“The shelling left five militants killed,” the source added.

IS has bases at Anbar desert, which lies near to borders with each of the Saudi Kingdom, Jordan and Syria, from which the militants launch attacks against Iraqi troops and civilians.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

Tunisian Islamic scholars support president’s call for gender equality
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tunisian authorities on Islamic fatwas at Diwan al-Ifta announced their support for President Beji Caid Essebsi’s proposals granting women further equal rights.

In a speech on the occasion of the National Women’s Day, the Tunisian President announced the formation of a committee to study the issue of individual rights and to activate them further and to consider equality between men and women in all fields.

In a statement on Monday, the Islamic scholars said that Essebsi’s proposals support the status of women and guarantee the principle of equality between men and women in the rights and duties called for by Islam, as well as the international conventions ratified by the Tunisia as a whole.

He said that inheritance is not a religious matter, but rather a matter for human beings. "God and His Messenger have left the matter for human beings to act," he said.

The Tunisian president also called on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice to review and change publication No. 73, which prohibits Tunisian woman from marrying a foreigner if his Islamic faith is not recognized by the Mufti, adding that the Tunisian Constitution recognizes freedom of belief and freedom of conscience in its sixth chapter and holds the state responsible for ensuring the protection of these freedoms.

Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin

1 dead in IED attack near Radwaniyah

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A civilian died and another sustained injuries on Tuesday when an explosive device exploded in a district in southwestern Baghdad, a police source was quoted saying.

The source told Alsumaria News that an IED planted on the side of a road near a popular market in Radwaniyah exploded on Tuesday morning, killing a civilian and wounding another.

Violence and armed conflicts left more than 500 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of July, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths.

“A total of 241 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 277 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in July,” the UNAMI report said, noting that the security personnel casualties were excluded from the figures.

Baghdad was the second most affected province with 38 killed and 85 injured.

Rebels say they shot down Syrian regime jet near border with Jordan
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Western-backed Syrian rebels said they had shot down a Syrian military jet on Tuesday and captured its pilot in a desert area in southern Syria near the border with Jordan, where the army had recently advanced and seized border posts.

Saad al Haj, front man for the Osoud al Sharqiya rebel group leader, told Rooters the rebels had shot down the Russian-built MiG using anti-aircraft guns in the eastern countryside of Sweida province.

Haj, whose group is one of two major rebel groups operating in the area, said the pilot was captured and was being interrogated. He could not say if the pilot had been injured.

The eastern countryside of Sweida province borders Jordan in a front where the Syrian army, alongside Iranian-backed militias, had established control last Thursday over checkpoints and border posts.

Sweida province was not included in a US-Russian brokered ceasefire that took effect in nearby areas of the southwest in July.

Syrian officials could not immediately be reached for comment. Rooters could not independently confirm a plane had been downed.

Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) rebels who get support from a command room in Jordan run by Arab and Western backers of the insurgency say fighting continues in the area to try to regain lost ground.

They blamed recent losses on the sudden retreat by a Jordanian-backed tribal militia known as Jaish al Ashair that had patrolled the border area.

This had allowed the army to quickly overrun the border posts and establish a presence in a border strip abandoned in the early years of the conflict.

Last June Osoud al Sharqiya said a military jet had come down about 50 kms east of Damascus in a rebel-held territory near a frontline with army troops. Videos on social media were released of the remains of the pilot and wreckage said to be that of the warplane.

Artillery units shelled Houthi missile platforms as well as militia units.

The source concluded that the military plan succeeded, and the Saudi forces were able to kill dozens of anti-government myrmidons, and destroy supply lines and missile platforms.

The victim's body was transferred to al-Arish Hospital.

Security forces are intensifying efforts to catch the culprits.

No group has grabbed credit for Tuesday's attack, although many similar attacks have been claimed by Sinai-based Islamist bully boy group Ansar Beit El-Maqdis.

Hillary's Pastor Plagiarized For Clinton ‘Devotional' Book
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s pastor lifted passages verbatim from another minister’s work for a post-election devotional appearing in a book to be released Tuesday.

Methodist minister Rev. Bill Shillady wrote daily devotionals for Clinton throughout her unsuccessful campaign for president with the help of several other ministers who are credited in the new book, CNN reports.

The devotional Shillady sent to Clinton the day after President Donald Trump won the 2016 election borrowed liberally from another pastor who was not involved in the Clinton devotion-writing effort. Shillady included that devotional in "Strong For A Moment Like This: The Daily Devotions Of Hillary Rodham Clinton," a year’s worth of devotions tailored for Clinton as she campaigned for president.

CNN published an excerpt Friday of the devotional Shillady sent to Clinton Nov. 9, the day after the election:

For the disciples and Christ’s followers in the first century, Good Friday represented the day that everything fell apart. All was lost. The momentum and hope of a man claiming to be the Son of God, the Messiah who was supposed to change everything, had been executed.

The devotion bears striking similarity to a March 2016 blog post by Matt Deuel, a pastor at Mission Point Community Church in Warsaw, Ind.:

For the disciples and Christ followers in the first century, Good Friday represented the day that everything fell apart. All was lost. The momentum and hope of a man, claiming to be the Son of God, the Messiah who was supposed to change everything, had been executed. In his last breaths hanging on the cross, he said it himself, "It is finished."

Other paragraphs appear to be lifted in part from Deuel’s work. CNN learned of the potential plagiarism when Deuel contacted a reporter to point out the similarities.

Shillady apologized to Deuel Monday and gave an explanation of what happened.

"I do not remember cutting and pasting from a particular column so much as bits and pieces from a variety of places on the Internet," Shillady told CNN.

"I searched for passages that offered perspective of this theme," Shillady said. "I am now stunned to realize the similarity between Matt Deuel’s blog sermon and my own. Clearly, portions of my devotional that day incorporate his exact words. I apologize to Matt for not giving him the credit he deserves."

Deuel told CNN in a text message that he spoke with Shillady and accepted his apology.

group jihadists to seize part of its territory.

Authorities "uncovered a terrorist plot" targeting police and military units in the southern town of Ben Guerdane in a fresh bid to claim territory for IS, the interior ministry says in a statement.

In March last year, jihadists mounted a coordinated assault on security installations in the town on Tunisia’s border with Libya, aiming to win over residents and establish an IS "emirate."

That attack cost the lives of seven civilians and 13 members of the security forces. Fifty-five assailants were killed.

The latest plot sought to "take advantage of social unrest... to help ISIS elements infiltrate our country in order to carry out terrorist attacks and try to seize security and military buildings," the ministry says, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

and Iraq plan to open the Arar border crossing for trade for the first time since 1990, when it was closed after the countries cut ties following Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, Saudi local media reported on Tuesday.

Saudi and Iraqi officials toured the site on Monday and spoke with Iraqi religious pilgrims, who for the past 27 years had access to the crossing only once annually during the haj season, the Mecca newspaper reported.

The governor of Iraq's southwestern Anbar province, whose staff was on hand for the ceremonies, said the Iraqi government had deployed troops to protect the desert route leading to Arar and called its opening a "significant move" to boost ties.

"This is a great start for further future cooperation between Iraq and Saudia Arabia," said Sohaib al-Rawi.

The announcement follows a decision by the Saudi cabinet on Monday to establish a joint trade commission with Iraq.

Salahuddin Kombat Kronicle

Top ISIS Holy Man Tango Uniform in RPG attack

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State mufti had been killed after a rocket was fired at his vehicle east of Salahuddin, a local source was quoted saying on Tuesday.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that Abu Hilal, 50, an Iraqi, was killed when a rocket, possibly fired by a drone, hit his vehicle in Mutaibija Basin, east of the province. The source said that two other companions were also killed in the strike.

Abu Huilal was the recently appointed mufti (religious legislator) with the Islamic State in Mutaibija. He had served as a subordinate mufti in Kirkuk but moved to Salahuddin a few months earlier.

Mutaibija has been one of Islamic State’s militancy hotspots over the past months.Islamic State militants have launched occasional attacks against security forces and civilians on Salahuddin’s borders with Diyala over the past few months, coinciding with government operations that managed to recapture the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest bastion in Iraq, early July.

Done with Mosul, the government and military commanders intend to wage further offensives at other IS havens across the country, including Salahuddin, seeking to mark an end to the self-proclaimed “caliphate” declared by the group back in 2014.

Violence and armed conflicts killed and wounded more than 500 Iraqis throughout July, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

5 ISIS Turbans smoked in suicide attack attempt

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Five Islamic State militants, who planned for suicide attacks, were killed in east of Salahuddin province, a security source from the province was quoted saying on Tuesday.

“Joint troops killed on Monday evening five militants who were planning for suicide attacks,” the source told AlSumaria News. “Troops received intelligence information about the militants intentions to launch attack against joint troops deployed in al-Bou Awwad village in al-Azeem town, east of Salahuddin.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added, “IS deployed militants from Mutaibija and al-Zarka regions in Diyala to carry out suicide attacks and explode electricity pylons.”

Earlier on Tuesday, IS confirmed death of a senior IS leader called Haitham Abdullah Hamad al-Terazi, after the Dijla Operations Command announced on Monday killing him along with one of his companions in an operation carried out near Hawi al-Azeem region, near borders between Salahuddin and Diyala provinces.

Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, are still held by the militants which poses threats to the liberated regions. Iraqi troops are urged to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

3 female suicide bombers kill 27, wound 83 in northeast Nigeria

krazed killers.

Two more suicide bombers detonated their devices at the gates to a nearby refugee camp, wounding many people, an emergency services official said.

In all, 83 people were maimed in the three kabooms near the city of Maiduguri, epicentre of the long-running conflict between government forces and Boko Haram.

Nigeria's military last year wrested back large swathes of territory from the Islamist myrmidons. But they have struck back with renewed zeal since June, killing at least 143 people before Tuesday's bombings and weakening the army's control.

The group has waged an eight-year war to create an Islamic state group in northeast Nigeria, and provoked international outrage by kidnapping more than 200 schoolgirls known as the Chibok Girls in April 2014.

Its better-known faction, led by Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fired by the Caliph and refused to step down ...

group - has in the meantime quietly become a deadly force capable of carrying out highly-organised attacks.

Last month, an oil prospecting team was captured by al-Barnawi's group. At least 37 people, including members of the team, died when rescuers from the military and vigilantes attempted to free them.

According to the CTD, the department assigned a team under Senior Superintendent of Police Intelligence CTD Omer Shahid Hamid to arrest the terrorists.

The team, with the use of the CTD's intelligence, was able to set up checkposts in the city. "As soon as the terrorists' vehicle reached Manghophir, the police signalled them to stop," the CTD said, "after which the bully boyz began firing at the police".

Indian troops foil China's incursion attempt in Ladakh, minor injuries on both sides after stone-pelting
[HindustanTimes] Indian troops on Tuesday foiled two incursion bids by the Chinese in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region but not before stones were thrown and soldiers injured on both sides as India celebrated 70 years of Independence.

The clash near the Pangong Lake, which divides Indian and Chinese territory, comes at a time when the two neighbours are in a standoff thousands of miles away in the disputed Doklam plateau close to Sikkim on India’s northeastern border. The two-month-old row has soured ties between the two sides, with China accusing India of trespass.

"Indian and Chinese troops came face to face at two places in Finger Four and Finger Five areas near Pangong Lake in Ladakh region," a government source said.

Finger Four is almost 5km into Indian territory from the line of actual control (LAC), manned by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

When Indian troops told the Chinese to retreat, words were exchanged and then a scuffle broke out. "Stones were thrown at each other, resulting in injuries to troops from both sides after which finally the Chinese forces retreated," the source said.

Marawi battle exposes Philippines’ intel crisis
[The Diplomat] by Prashanth Parameswaran

Over the weekend, during remarks at the National Defense College of the Philippines, Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana dwelled a little on the increased capability requirements that the Philippine military is looking for, particularly in the intelligence realm, as it confronts Islamic State-linked militants in Marawi. Lorenzana’s comments are yet another indication of the challenges that the nation continues to face as it deals with a rising terror threat.

The Philippine military has struggled during the Marawi crisis, and that has not been surprising to those familiar with both the general challenges it faces as well as the specifics of the current situation. The AFP remains one of the region’s weakest militaries despite some improvements, and Marawi has been an uphill battle for it because of various factors including the fact that it is a densely populated city with dense, forested terrain outside of it, and the reality that the allegiances between various insurgent groups and foreign fighters can be much looser than the headlines often suggest.

Three CEOs walk away from Trump after Charlottesville
[CNN] One of the country's most powerful labor union leaders became the latest person to walk away from President Trump over his remarks about white supremacists.

Richard Trumka, leader of the AFL-CIO, issued a statement on Tuesday saying "I cannot sit on a council for a President that tolerates bigotry and domestic terrorism." He said he was stepping down from Trump's manufacturing council "effective immediately."

His resignation came shortly after Trump told reporters on Tuesday that "both sides" were responsible for violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

In addition to Trumka, Thea Lea, an economist and former deputy chief of staff at the AFL-CIO, also resigned from the council.

Four corporate executives had already walked away from Trump's manufacturing council following the president's reaction to the protests in Charlottesville.

Scott Paul, head of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, quit Trump's manufacturing council earlier on Tuesday. He said on Twitter it was "the right thing for me to do."

He joined the CEOs of Merck, Under Armour and Intel, who all left the council Monday. The group, which Trump established in January with about two dozen members, is supposed to meet occasionally to offer the president advice on job growth.

Trump said on Twitter that he has other CEOs ready to step in and that "grandstanders" should not have joined the manufacturing council in the first place.

#5  If Trump said nothing they would criticize him for not speaking out. If he spoke out, it wouldn't be good enough or it was too late. Or they would say he didn't condemn enough.

Trump was right, there were two opposing groups with violent-prone people within both groups. You have a mayor and a governor who did little to prevent this situation. There's plenty of blame to go around.

There was little criticism of the left when Occupy Wallstreet, BLM and AntiFa were out in the streets destroying property, beating up people and killing cops. The neo-Nazi are a recent addition to the mix. They are few in number and a sad reminder of another time. Their numbers are made up of malcontents, misfits and mental problems. If you look at the background of 20-year old James Alex Fields or Dylan Roof, the Charleston church shooter, they fit in one or more of these categories. Fields and Roof are the types of people who the MSM hope they will find at the root of violence perpetrated during the orchestrated chaos; right wing, white male screwed up extremists. James T. Hodgkinson, the Republican ballgame shooter fits the description except he was a left-wing nut. The left-wing press was not so interested when they discovered he was one of them. No one blamed Bernie Sanders because Hodgkinson was a supporter. If people had not been killed at Charlottesville, today's neo-Nazis would be a joke (the same with the KKK).

#7  Burning the flag, panhandling and nude dancing have been declared free speech by the Supreme Court in past rulings. This looks like an act that can be construed as free speech also. A well crafted case needs to be sent to the court asking what speech is not to be considered 1st amendment protected. Like many 2nd amendment cases, the court will sidestep. Then Congress should pass a law that says, when the court sidesteps, it's a free fire zone. Of course, the court will strike that down and the cycle of insipid spinelessness can begin again.

The Death of Reading
[Acculturated] I read Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis for the first time last December. A lifelong Christian and Narnia superfan, I’m late to the party, I know. But as the dust settled from an election that shined a glaring spotlight on our cultural divisions—political, social, economic, theological—I was feeling out of sorts. Christian leaders I respected as well as people close to me who had helped shape my own faith were on the other side of the divide, and I needed a touchstone, something to help reorient me in the foundations of the faith, so I could move forward. I reached out to one of the great Christian thinkers of the twentieth century and found the solace I needed in his book.

This is the power of books. They let us escape, try on new points of view, and explore what it means to be human. The great works give readers a shared experience and a shorthand for big ideas. Describing something as Orwellian is a big hit lately, if you haven’t noticed. We return to old favorites again and again when we need the familiarity of a trusted friend. Books can heal the spirit and soothe the soul like nothing else can.

In her lovely bestselling book, The Little Paris Bookshop, Nina George explores the healing power of books. She tells the story of Jean Perdu, a bookseller who has a knack for uncovering just the right book to heal whatever is ailing his customers. He is so good at dispensing bookish remedies a local therapist sends patients to his bookshop, the Literary Apothecary, with a “prescription” for their literary needs. One person might be described as “Kafkaesque with a touch of Pynchon” and another as “a splendid example of Potter-under-the-stairs syndrome.” Perdu can always find just the right book to soothe anxiety or help mend a broken heart.

Literature can be a healing agent. Unfortunately, Americans are reading less today than they have in the past. Philip Yancey lamented our shift away from reading and toward digital distractions in a recent Washington Post op-ed, “The Death of Reading Is Threatening the Soul.” Technology and social media have combined to retrain our brains to graze along the surface of information rather than hone our concentration to delve deeply into meatier content. Neuroscientists tell us finding new and interesting information gives our brains a little dopamine hit, and, like lab rats, we keep clicking those web links to keep that happiness hormone flowing. The average American spends ten hours per day getting their media fix.

I am as guilty as anyone else is. A “quick” look at Twitter turns into thirty minutes or more of following links through articles across the web. I can’t remember the last time I got truly lost in a book where hours passed without me noticing. Where I once devoured books, I now “take a break” after each chapter or two to see what’s happening on Twitter. Five minutes turns into ten, and then, well, it’s time to put the book down and make dinner.

Our time online is not making us happier either. The more we use social media sites like Facebook the less happy we are. Looking at our friends’ carefully curated online lives leaves us with a sense that maybe our lives aren’t so great in comparison, plus the time we spend on our devices takes away from the face-to-face interactions we need to build a strong social network. We know our time online is making us unhappy, but we still struggle to kick the habit.

We need to find our way back to the deep, focused reading so many of us enjoyed in the past. “Commitment to reading is an ongoing battle,” Yancey declares. “We have to build a fortress with walls strong enough to withstand the temptations of that powerful dopamine rush while also providing shelter for an environment that allows deep reading to flourish.” In an age of information overload, we could use the soothing balm of a good piece of literature; we need to tune out digital distractions and pick up a book. I’m making a commitment to myself to carve out more time for distraction-free, focused reading. I hope you will too.

Bangladesh
Explosion, gunfire kills militant in Panthapath hotel
[Dhaka Tribune] 3:00pm- Saiful used the nom de guerre "Khairul" when registering at the hotel on August 13, but signed with his original name, says OC Atikur Rahman.

2:20pm- New Market cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman tells the Dhaka Tribune: "We first conducted a block raid in the area. We entered Olio International around 2:45am.

"The hotel manager informed us that 13 of the rooms were occupied."

He continues: "When knocking on room 301, a voice from inside said it was too late at night, and that they would talk in the morning."

After switching a light on from the outside, police could see someone with a black trolley bag coming towards the door.

Immediately they dive on the floor and call for backup to conduct the raid.

IGP Shahidul Hoque says: "Saiful was a member of Chhatra Shibir before joining New JMB"

12:20pm- CTTC says the bad boy had planned to attack processions to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on the National Mourning Day. The police have also found leaflets containing militancy propaganda among the dear departed’s belongings.

12:00pm- CTTC has confirmed that Monirul Islam, head of the unit, will brief the media at 12:15pm at Dhanmondi Road 32 about the raid.

11:50am- Three more kabooms go off as the BDU neutralises them. Our staffs inside the office are ducking and taking cover. Our staffs on the ground have confirmed more may follow.

11:30am- Law enforcement agencies are saying there could be more murderous Moslems inside or around the hotel. The Bomb Disposal Unit has found several bags filled with explosives.

11:15am- A security guard at the al-Arafah Bank branch near the hotel has been found bleeding after the initial skirmish. He is being taken to Square Hospital for emergency treatment. One of our news hounds overhears on the police scanner that he has been hit in the head. It has not been ascertained whether he has been shot or was struck by debris.

11:05am- CTTC has called off the raid after finding no other explosives. But they are still restricting entry, even to journalists at the Dhaka Tribune office. The raid titled "Operation August Bite" seems far from over as law enforcement agencies are still on site en force. Emergency services are beginning to clean up the area.

10:40am- A CTTC official says the kaboom was from a bomb inside a trolley. The CTTC source identifies the attacker as Saiful Islam, a 21-year-old from Dumuria in Khulna. He was a student at BL College in Khulna and had set out for an attack on Dhanmondi Road 32 at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Tuesday.

10:20am- The building next door has started to show cracks after the kabooms. Law enforcement agencies are saying nobody else is inside. Inspector General (IGP) Shahidul Hoque has arrived and is briefing the media.

10:10am- Wazidur Rahman with the Special Security and Protection Battalion has confirmed that a bad boy was inside a hotel room and has been killed. From the roof of the Dhaka Tribune office, the bad boy looks to be in his early 20s, in a black shirt and blue jeans.

9:44am- Two kabooms are heard inside the building followed by a staccato of gunfire. A room on the second floor has went kaboom! and debris have strewn across the street.

9:35am- A SWAT team has entered the building just now, confirmed by the Dhaka Tribune staffs who are stranded on the street, unable to enter the office premises.

9:24am- DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (CTTC) Abdul Mannan says police have had the area surrounded since 3am on Tuesday. He says no shots have been fired. He also tells the Dhaka Tribune that the police are trying to resolve the situation by compelling the murderous Moslems to surrender.

9:05am- Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has confirmed that one or several murderous Moslems are hiding in the building.

8:50am- No senior police personnel has commented on the matter as of yet. The hotel has been identified as Hotel Olio International, located between Square Hospital and the Russel Square intersection. It is directly across the street from the Dhaka Tribune office.

8:30am- A stretch of Panthapath from Square Hospital to the Russel Square intersection has been sealed off by law enforcement agencies. Police, including the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, Detective Branch and regular members in riot gear, are present in numbers along with Rapid Action Battalion and fire service.

Saudi female surgeon named goodwill ambassador for Orthopedics society

She looks familiar. I'm sure I've seen her someplace before.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The American Society for Orthopedics has declared a consultant in the field, Dalal Bobsheet, as the goodwill ambassador for the international program on orthopedic surgery.

The award has been given with the hope of improving the standard of the surgery in the Middle East, and enhancing patient service.

Bobsheet is considered the first orthopedics consultant in the region and the second in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
as of 2011.

Choosing her field
Speaking on her choice of specialization, Bobsheet said that she explored numerous others before settling on this one. In her opinion, she felt that this specialty was the hallmark of her career while working as a specialist, she found that she was skilled in surgery in general.

The ambassador suggested that such a field holds creativity, artistry, and precision. She also belives that is a humane profession.

Loving what you do or the field you work in is the barrier between you and excellence, said Bobsheet.

The surgeon has achieved important scientific and national accomplishments. She’s also known for her social and loving personality, making her a prominent figure in Saudi society.

Police to charge family of Halamish terrorist with failing to prevent attack
[IsraelTimes] IDF prosecutors file pre-indictment notice against 5 relatives of Omar al-Abed on suspicion of not telling authorities of his intentions

Police on Tuesday said that a pre-indictment notice had been filed against five family members of a Paleostinian terrorist on suspicion of having failed to prevent him from carrying out a deadly attack in which he stabbed to death three members of a family at their home in the West Bank settlement of Halamish.

Since last month’s attack, Israeli security forces have placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
the father, mother, two brothers and cousin of Omar al-Abed, who police say knew beforehand of Abed’s intention to carry out the stabbing yet took no actions to stop him or inform Israeli or Paleostinian authorities.

Police said the case has been handed over to Israel Defense Forces’ prosecutors, whose filing of the pre-indictment notice at the Ofer military court in the West Bank will allow authorities to continue to hold the family members in jug until they are indicted.

Hours after the attack, the IDF raided Abed’s home in Kobar, mapped it for demolition and arrested another one of his brothers, whom officials suspect aided him in carrying out the attack.

In the ensuing days, the army also arrested Abed’s mother, Ibtisam, for "aggravated incitement," after she appeared in a widely shared video praising her son’s actions.

Abed’s father, Abd al-Jalil, who was arrested in the initial raid, told the Haaretz daily last month that his son’s actions were understandable.

Security forces also arrested another of Abed’s brothers and his cousin overnight Saturday.

On the eve of July 21, 19-year-old Abed left his village, climbed over the Halamish fence, and knocked on the door of the Salomon family home. The family had been celebrating the birth of a new grandson and thought that Abed was the first guest to arrive. Shortly after walking in, the young Paleostinian took out his knife and stabbed to death Yosef Salomon, 70, and his two children, Chaya, 46, and Elad, 36. Yosef’s wife, Tova, sustained several stab wounds to her back but survived.

An off-duty IDF soldier heard the screams, grabbed his gun and shot the terrorist through the Salomons’ kitchen window, wounding him.

Arabia
Rejection of Muslim Brotherhood by popular consent
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Since the beginning of the boycott of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, we have observed significant events that would not have been witnessed had this historic and courageous decision not been taken.

The decision has put an end to Qatari policies of creating confusion and sedition, support for terrorist entities and attempts to overthrow regimes in more than one Gulf country, which constitute merely the tip of an iceberg of Qatari policies, which had sprung after the coup of Hamad bin Khalifa against his father.

Hamad bin Khalifa turned the stable state of Qatar into an international center for intelligence agencies, whose task was to support nefarious activities that firstly indulged his ego and aberrant ambitions, and then served to benefit Western institutions.

Indeed the Obama-Moslem Brüderbund project dubbed as the ’Arab Spring’, which has been supported by the Government of Hamad, is blatant proof of all the calamitous consequences that still lie before us, in the destruction of entire nations, the killing of millions of innocent people and a fallout that is still unfolding.

One of the advantages of the boycott has been the dramatic collapse of the Moslem Brüderbund. This organization had penetrated some of the vitals of the homeland, turning our peaceful and harmonized society against itself with the spread of hate speeches and extremism among people.

Environment of discord
The Moslem Brüderbund thrives and flourishes only in an environment of discord and contention, as it uses religion for the purpose of polarization.

But all of its efforts have come to naught and the organization stands discredited as it faces public opprobrium. The Saudi faction of the Moslem Brüderbund stood against its own country, fiercely attacking Saudi national media and symbols.

It is worth highlighting that the fall of the Moslem Brüderbund wasn’t at the hands of the enlightened class, i.e. the intellectuals, the writers and the media, but it was the decision of the Saudi people who opposed the organization’s use of religion to denigrate them, and this in itself is a great national achievement.

It’s pretty obvious that the Saudi faction of the Moslem Brüderbund is witnessing its worst days. The Qatari crisis has exposed their position toward their country as they supported Qatar’s plans to divide the homeland. The Gulf crisis exposed their schemes and plans for the region as well as their relationship with Qatar and their support for subversive activities against Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
.

Spreading chaos
Their social media pages had turned into paid ads, fostering incitement and spreading chaos on the orders of Qatar. Some of its exponents eventually expeditiously departed at a goodly pace as they could not face the barrage of seething questions from the Saudi people who had laid bare their plans and pestered them with inquiries, for which there were no answers.

As for their ambassador, whose ambitions were dashed by the Qatar boycott, found that his pen had finally run dry and could no longer fudge or falsify the truth, manipulate people or prevaricate on various fronts.

While we had predicted the fall of the Saudi faction of the Moslem Brüderbund, we had not expected it to happen so quickly and by popular consent. So our thanks and gratitude go to this blessed boycott.

ISIS executes 5 in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has executed five of its leaders in western Anbar over reluctance, a paramilitary official was quoted saying on Tuesday.

“IS executed five leaders in Annah town, west of Ramadi, and punished others,” Qutri al-Obeidi, leader within the Shia-led al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units), told AlSumaria News.

“The group accused the slain and punished leaders of reluctance especially after several members were killed and injured by army and paramilitary troops over the past few days,” Obeidi added.

A source from the army’s command was quoted on Monday as saying that intensive strikes were seen at the towns of Annah and Rawa targeting five rest houses of the extremist group and a building used as a court.

Last week, eleven members were killed as Jazeera Operations Command, along with the Tribal Mobilization Forces, carried out military operations in Anbar desert from two directions toward Annah and Rawa towns.

5 die in IED attack in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A whole family composed of five members were killed in a bomb blast, northeast of Diyala province, a security source said on Tuesday.

“A bomb exploded while a vehicle was passing on an abandoned road linking between al-Assaf and Omar Manda villages at the outskirts of Qurret Tabbah, northeast of Diyala. A man, his wife and three children, who were on board, were killed,” the source told Alghad Press.

“Security services conducted investigations and transferred the victims to forensic medicine department,” the source added.

Attacks launched by IS militants against security troops, the pro-government forces and civilians surged over the past few weeks in northeast of Diyala, which urge the Iraqi forces to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town. Several regions were freed in wide-scale military operations launched by army troops, backed by the U.S.-led coalition.

Brit chick named as ISIS Top Doc in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has named a British national female doctor as head of the group’s health department in southwest of Kirkuk, a security source was quoted saying.

“IS selected a British female doctor from Sudanese origin, who arrived to Nineveh via Syria two years ago, to head the group’s health department after the group’s health minister was killed in an airstrike in Hawija,” the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AlSumaria News on Tuesday. “The doctor was one of eight doctors who fled London to join IS.”

The group, according to the source, “handed over the responsibilities of the department to the doctor, to be the first woman who heads that post in the group.”

Hawija and other neighboring towns, west of Kirkuk, have been held by IS since mid-2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. The group executed dozens of civilians and security members there, forcing thousands to flee homes.

Dozens of residents from Hawija and the regions in its vicinity escape to Kirkuk province on a daily basis. Despite the risky routes to the freed regions, civilians prefer death to staying under IS control.

Few thousands of IS militants remain in other holdouts in Diyala, Salahuddin, Kirkuk and Anbar.

Civilians in Eastern Syria Flee IS Conscription
[AnNahar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group order that prompted Mahmud al-Ali to flee his town was simple: "All young men aged 20 to 30 years old must enlist to fight throughout Syria."

As the jihadist group loses territory across the country, it has begun to impose forced enlistment on men in Deir Ezzor, the last Syrian province that remains nearly completely under IS control.

The measure has prompted many residents of villages and towns in the eastern province, like 26-year-old Ali, to flee en masse.

Many of them have sought refuge in makeshift camps for the displaced in the neighbouring province of Hasakeh, including one seven kilometres from the town of Arisha.

In the middle of the desert, the camp is a sea of tents with the logo of the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

Here and there, women and kiddies sit on the ground under the blistering heat, but the camp is dominated by young men fleeing conscription.

"IS told us that jihad was now a duty," said Ali, who left his town of al-Eshara, southeast of Deir Ezzor city, along with his family.

"But the majority of the young men refused and thousands of us fled," added Ali, wearing a traditional robe and the long beard mandated by IS.

Residents and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group report that the jihadists announced via Friday sermons, loudspeakers and leaflets that residents had a week to register their names at recruitment offices.

"The situation became critical," said 28-year-old Salah.

"They carried out raids in houses searching for young men to conscript into their forces," added Salah, who fled Mayadeen, Deir Ezzor's second largest city.

He said the raids netted many.

- 'Nobody wanted to join' -
According to Ahmed al-Abed, also from Mayadeen, those forced by the jihadists to enlist "have to undergo a month of training and then they fight for them for four months."

Many have not been able to escape, and remain trapped in the oil-rich province which has been largely under the control of IS since 2014.

"There are people still trapped who can't get out. We paid (smugglers) two million Syrian pounds (nearly $4,000) for 15 members of our family," said Abed.

But even with the guidance of a smuggler, escaping the clutches of IS remains a dangerous affair, especially after the group boosted security to stem the flow of fleeing residents.

IS has suffered a slew of defeats in recent months. After being pushed out of Aleppo province in northern Syria, it has lost half its de facto Syrian capital Raqa city to US-backed fighters. It is on the verge of being completely expelled from Homs province by Russian-backed Syrian government forces, who are now advancing towards Deir Ezzor from several directions.

Under pressure, it appears to be mobilising all available resources to defend the eastern province. The recapture of Deir Ezzor "would largely -- if not completely -- mark the end of the fight against IS," Russia's Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Sunday.

The jihadists told young men "we want you to support us in the battle for Deir Ezzor," said Hazem al-Satem, also from al-Eshara.

"But nobody wanted to join them," the 25-year-old said.

- 'Impossible to escape' -
For those who have escaped, the relief at their freedom is tempered by the miserable conditions they now face in camps for the displaced, including shortages of food, water and medicine.

Arisha camp was established two months ago on the edge of a makeshift oil refinery.

It hosts more than 7,000 people, but has just 400 tents.

On Monday, the International Committee of the Red Thingy warned that displaced civilians faced "terrible, terrible conditions".

Minor injuries on both sides as Chinese and Indian soldiers caught in border melee
[SCMP] Indian and Chinese soldiers were involved in an altercation in the western Himalayas on Tuesday, Indian sources said, further raising tensions between the two countries which are already locked in a two-month stand-off in another part of the disputed border.

A source in New Delhi, who had been briefed on the military situation on the border, said soldiers foiled a bid by a group of Chinese troops to enter Indian territory in Ladakh, near the Pangong lake.

Some of the Chinese soldiers carried iron rods and stones, and in the melee there were minor injuries on both sides, the source said.

The two sides have frequently accused each other of intrusions into each other’s territories, but festivities are rare. The Indian military declined to comment on the incident.

"There was an altercation near the Pangong lake," said a police officer in Srinagar, the capital of India’s Jammu and Kashmire state, under which the area falls. An army source in Srinagar also spoke of an altercation following what he called a Chinese army "incursion in Pangong lake area".

The two armies are already engaged in a stand-off in the Doklam plateau further east, in another part of their 3,500 km (2,175 mile) unmarked mountain border.

China has repeatedly asked India to unilaterally withdraw from the Doklam area, or else face the prospect of an escalation. Chinese state media have warned India of a fate worse than its crushing defeat in a brief border war in 1962.

The trouble started in June when India sent troops to stop China building a road in the Doklam area, which is a remote, uninhabited territory claimed by both China and India’s ally Bhutan.

New Delhi said it sent its troops because Chinese military activity in Doklam, near the junction of the borders of India, China and Bhutan, was a threat to the security of its own northeast region.

But Beijing has said India had no role to play in the area and diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis have not made much headway.

An Indian government minister said efforts were continuing to find a way to end the stand-off.

The minister, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
because of the sensitivity of the issue, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government had no choice but to act to stop the Chinese road activity in the region because it had come too close for comfort.

More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

12 ISIS Bad Guys left pining for the fjords in Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) The U.S.-led coalition launched air raids against Islamic State locations in Tal Afar town, west of Mosul, an Iraqi army officer was quoted saying.

Speaking to Shafaq News, Lt.Gen. Thiyab Abdullah al-Amri said twelve militants, including prominent leaders, were killed as coalition F-16 jets targeted the town early on Tuesday

In related news, a local source from Nineveh said six powerful blasts hit several areas in the town.

“Six huge blasts occurred in Tal Afar as fighter jets were flying above the town,” the source told AlSumaria News.

“Confirmed news indicated targeting a workshop used to manufacturing explosives,” the source, who preferred anonymity, said, adding that losses among the enemy are still unidentified.

Meanwhile, the group reportedly ordered a sudden ban of women’s presence at its headquarters in the town.

“IS made a sudden decision on Tuesday banning women’s presence at its headquarters in the town and removed the detachments run by women, especially those near to districts where senior leaders live,” a source told AlSumaria.

The group, according to the source, “prevented families from moving to any district without permission from the security department,” the source said indicating chaotic situation within the group.

IS depends on women in many of its departments, detachments, controlling the markets and gathering information.

2 Iraqi kops die in small arms attack in Tal al-Romman region

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Two Federal Police personnel were killed and injured in an armed attack in western Mosul, an Iraqi informed security source was quoted saying.

“Unknown gunmen attacked a Federal Police checkpoint in Tal al-Romman region in western Mosul, killing one policeman and injuring the other before escaping toward unidentified destination,” Lieutenant Ali Ahmed al-Ramadani, of Federal Police, told Anadolu Agency.

The perpetrators belong to the Islamic State cells which seek destabilizing the liberated regions, Ramadani said.

In related news, Cap. Ibrahim Raad al-Saher, of Federal Police’s engineering department, told Anadolu that “troops, in coordination with senior military official exploded two booby-trapped houses to prevent losses among civilians or troops, in case they were left undetonated.”

“The explosion took place after more than ten hours of work as the personnel could not defuse the explosives being developed ones,” Saher added.

Iraqi Jets Pound ISIL Posts in Tal Afar

[AlManar] Iraqi warplanes carried out air strikes Tuesday against ISIL positions in Tal Afar in preparation for a ground assault to retake the town near the Syrian border, the military said.

Tal Afar is the main remaining ISIL stronghold in northern Iraq, after the capture by Iraqi forces in July of second city Mosul further east in a major blow to the Takfiri insurgents.

“Preparations are under way pending instructions from the commander in chief (Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi)” for the launch of the assault, said a spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Operation Command (JOC).

The spokesman, Yahiya Rassul, said that although the main offensive to retake Tal Afar had not yet begun, the air force was pounding insurgents’ positions in the town.

Plans to retake Tal Afar were announced on Monday by federal police chief Lieutenant General Raed Shakir Jawdat, who said “armored and elite units” were headed for the town.

The units, whose number has not been specified, were “regrouping in combat positions in preparation for the next battle,” he said in a statement.

Joining them is the Hashed al-Shaabi, paramilitary units deployed since 2014 to halt the Takfiri advance.

“Hashed al-Shaabi commanders met Saturday with army and police commanders to decide on the plan to free Tal Afar,” spokesman Ahmed al-Assadi said.

ICC warrant for Khalifa Haftar ally Mahmoud al-Werfalli
[Al Jazeera] The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for a senior Libyan military commander allied with Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
suspected of involvement in the deaths of 33 people in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Haftar is the controversial chief of the self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA), which now controls key Libyan oil ports.

Libya descended into chaos following the 2011 civil war that toppled and killed longtime ruler Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
, and the country is now split between rival governments and militias.

The ICC document, seen by Al Jazeera on Tuesday, says: "Mahmoud Mustafa Busayf al-Werfalli [is] allegedly responsible for murder as a war crime in the context of the non-international armed conflict in Libya."

The murders were committed "in seven incidents, taking place from on or before 3 June 2016 until on or about 17 July 2017, in Benghazi or surrounding areas", the warrant says.

Werfalli allegedly personally shot or ordered the execution of people who were either civilians or injured fighters, according to the document.

"There is no information in the evidence to show that they have been afforded a trial by a legitimate court, whether military or otherwise, that would comport to any recognised standard of due process," the ICC's judges say.

Saudi Arabia approves four decisions in 10 days to ‘boost women’s rights’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s Justice Ministry has approved four decisions in support of women’s rights in the past ten days, the Saudi Okaz daily reported.

The decisions pertain to protecting minors, divorcees, women who have custody of their children and law graduates who have not practiced the profession yet due to male lawyers’ arbitrariness.

Legislative authorities approved 10 proceedings to control the marriage of minors, such as limiting the permission to marry off girls below 17 years old to the relevant court. The marriage application must be submitted by the girl, her mother or legal guardian in marriage.

The cabinet also approved organizing the Alimony Fund for divorcees and children. The fund will be directly linked to the justice ministry and it will have its independent budget.

The Fund will pay alimony to beneficiaries before a verdict to cash one is issued. It will also pay alimony to women whom ex-husbands did not pay on time. The ex-husband will then pay the Fund later.

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa suddenly spied Mr. Bartlett at the checkout counter. He was buying Grecian Formula!...
the Supreme Judicial Council approved a decision pertaining to women’s custody of their children. The decision stipulates that if there are no disputes regarding the custody of children, the woman can prove they are in her custody without having to file a lawsuit in personal status courts.

As for female law graduates who haven’t been able to work and who have been exploited by some lawyers as interns, the Justice Ministry approved a three-year law diploma that concludes with granting the intern ‐ whether male or female ‐ a license to practice the profession.

The diploma will prepare law graduates to practice law as the intern programs which some lawyers provide do not teach interns well as they’re often assigned irrelevant tasks.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
6 Ukrainian soldiers killed in fighting in southern Donetsk

A total of six Ukrainian soldiers were killed while on patrol in southern Donetsk Tuesday, according to Russian language news reports.

According to an announcement by the Donetsk ministry of defense, two ten-man patrols were caught near Kominterovo at around 2100 hours Tuesday night, under the cover of darkness. Rebels claim the patrols were an attempt to break through.

Both sides routinely send out patrols. From the sound and tenor of the reports, the Ukrainian action was more likely a probe, intended to test rebel response time and strength in the area.

One Ukrainian patrol stumbled into a minefield, and apparently touched off the rebels' response. The Ukrainians were forced to withdraw under cover of mortar and grenade fire from the Ukrainian 59th Separate Motorized Rifle brigade.

In other news, three rebel soldiers were killed and another 13 between the rebel and Ukrainian sides were wounded in ongoing shelling in eastern Ukraine, according to Russian language news accounts.

According to a news report which appeared in lb.ua, a total of 10 residences were burned in shelling by Russian backed rebels in Verkhnetoretskoe village in the Yasinovataya section of northeastern Donetsk city.

Yasinovataya has been a violent point of contention between the two combatants ever since Ukrainian units pushed into the region in a bid to cut off Gorlovka from Donetsk last year. The area the Ukrainians occupy overlooks the only hard topped road to connect Gorlovka with Donetsk city. It also is near the location of a water filtration plant which services both sides of the line of contact.

According to a separate lb.ua report, three Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in what was termed non stop overnight shelling which began at 1800 hrs and lasted to 0100 hrs Monday morning. Most of the shelling took place in the Avdievka industrial zone, which is in the eastern part of Avdievka.

The report also stated that rebels shelled Ukrainian positions near Vodyanoye and Shirokino, which is close to the coast of the Sea of Azov, near Mariupol.

Rebels fired 120mm mortars at Ukrainian positions in Lugansk near Krymsky.

According to another lb.ua article, by Monday morning another five Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in shelling, most of it in Avdievka and in the Mariupol region in southern Donetsk.

According to the Donetsk ministry of defense web page, a total of three rebel soldiers were killed in shelling since Sunday.

On Sunday, according to rebel media, one rebel soldier was killed in Ukrainian shelling. The announcement did not elaborate as to location. Yet another rebel report said another two rebel soldiers were killed on Monday, but the location and circumstances were not revealed as well.

Another rebel report said that a total of 14 residences were burned in northern Donetsk city, specifically near Yasinovataya, in Spartak, Petrovsky district of Donetsk and in the south at Sakhanka.

Syrian rebels continue attacks in Raqqa
[ARA News] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Sunday made new gains in the fight for Raqqa city.

After heavy clashes with ISIS extremists, the US-backed SDF troops seized control of two more districts in Raqqa–the ISIS’ de facto capital in Syria.

“Our forces liberated the districts of al-Mahdi and al-Rafqah in eastern Raqqa,” SDF officer Habun Osman told ARA News.

The Kurdish officer added that a team of experts started to clear the liberated areas by dismantling explosives and mines left by ISIS militants.

“At least 35 ISIS terrorists were killed in the clashes on Sunday,” Osman reported.

Local sources confirmed to ARA News that the Syrian Democratic Forces now control more than 60% of the key city of Raqqa.

The United States’ anti-ISIS coalition envoy Brett McGurk has confirmed that a total of 2,000 ISIS fighters are left in Raqqa, adding that these jihadists will die in Raqqa, where the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces continue their military operations against the radical group.

More than 80 percent of the ISIS attacks against the SDF have been accomplished by using hidden IEDs, according to officials.

“Fighting in Raqqa continues to be intense, as fanatical ISIS dead-enders and foreign terrorist fighters left to die use the dense urban environment to try to cling to territory,” said Colonel Ryan Dillon, a coalition spokesperson.

BBC Persian says Iran freezing assets
[IsraelTimes] The BBC says an Iranian court order has frozen the local assets of over 150 people associated with its Farsi-language service.

A statement from the British broadcaster on Tuesday says those named in the court order, issued from Tehran’s Evin prison, include current and former staff, as well as contributors.

The BBC says the order bans those named from "selling or buying property, cars and other goods."

BBC World Service Director La Belle Francesca Unsworth says it’s "appalling that anyone should suffer legal or financial consequences because of their association with the BBC."

Iranian officials and state media did not immediately report on the order.

The BBC’s Farsi-language service is barred from working in Iran, though many Iranians listen to its radio shows and watch its satellite television broadcasts.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Fools to the Left of Me, Clowns to the Right
Sarah Hoyt's take on Charlottesville
No one, not even Drudge is touching the Charlottesville insanity. Or it wasn’t last night. That is because "nobody knows nothing."

Depending on what actually happened and why, this could very well be the fuse that heats the cold civil war. And if you’re rubbing your hands, don’t be. Go read about the type of civil war where the populations are thoroughly emulsified. It’s not pretty, it doesn’t end sometimes for centuries, and it takes civilization down three levels, at least.

And yeah, to quote from the Ankhmorpork anthem "we own all your shoes, we own all your guns, we own all your troops, touch us and you’re done" is tempting, but not really. Sure, we own all of those, or at least they’re mostly on our side. The problem is that the other side has a near-psychotic disregard for everyone’s else lives and can build bombs. They’re not GOOD at it, mind you. The days of rage proved that. They blow themselves as much as everyone else, but practice makes perfect, and if this starts we’ll have plenty of time for them to practice.

...And yet, the way things have been going, with not only an entire cohort that was indoctrinated in Russian propaganda (originally) and then just in America-hatred in our best schools, it might be inevitable. How long can a nation subsist with the enemy within? Particularly when the enemy’s power is threatened by new technology. Particularly when that enemy is financed by Soros who might very well BE the beast of the apocalypse?

In America, if it were healthy, the crazy that happened in the weekend would never have happened. Both Nazis and communists have the right to say whatever the hell they want to. As long as they don’t have power, let them scream. But that’s not possible in the land of safe rooms and microaggressions.

...Also in a healthy society, if the fracas had happened because of the usual provocateurs, the rest of society would shake their head and go "So much crazy." not pile on (particularly on the left side) claiming this just proves all their theories.

And no, to whom it may concern, a region not wanting their past or their regional heroes erased to appease a vocal minority does NOT make them white supremacists. This idiotic changing of names, removing of statues and erasing people from history is NOT the work of a free society. It is wholly Stalinist and is letting the rest of the world know you by your fruits as it were. I have nothing invested in the ACW, except for having studied it enough to know it was more complex than most people think, and I’m only "southern" by fiat of my friends, but even I get outraged at the erasing of the past of the region. And you know damn well they’re coming for Jefferson and Washington next.

#3  From Ron Paul Forums: Real reasons for the Civil War:

This is well-reasoned document concerning the reasons the Civil War occurred.

Many people think the Civil War of 1860-1865 was fought over one issue alone, slavery. Nothing could actually be further from the truth. The War Between the States began because the South demanded States' rights and were not getting them.

The Congress at that time heavily favored the industrialized northern states to the point of demanding that the South sell is cotton and other raw materials only to the factories in the north, rather than to other countries. The Congress also taxed the finished materials that the northern industries produced heavily, making finished products that the South wanted, unaffordable. The Civil War should not have occurred. If the Northern States and their representatives in Congress had only listened to the problems of the South, and stopped these practices that were almost like the taxation without representation of Great Britain, then the Southern states would not have seceded and the war would not have occurred.

I know for many years, we have been taught that the Civil War was all about the abolition of slavery, but this truly did not become a major issue, with the exception of John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry, until after the Battle of Antietam in September 1862, when Abraham Lincoln decided to free the slaves in the Confederate States in order to punish those states for continuing the war effort. The war had been in progress for two years by that time.

Most southerners did not even own slaves nor did they own plantations. Most of them were small farmers who worked their farms with their families. They were fighting for their rights. They were fighting to maintain their lifestyle and their independence the way they wanted to without the United States Government dictating to them how they should behave.

Why are we frequently taught then, that the Civil War, War of Northern Aggression, War Between the States, or whatever you want to call it, was solely about slavery? That is because the history books are usually written by the winners of a war and this war was won by the Union. However, after following my family around since I was just a year old to Civil War Living History scenarios in Gettysburg and elsewhere, I have listened to both sides of the story, from those portraying historical figures, both Union and Confederate. Through listening to these people and also reading many different books, including some of the volumes of The Official Records of the Civil War, Death in September, The Insanity of It All, Every Day Life During the Civil War, and many others, I have come to the conclusion that the Civil War was about much more than abolishing the institution of slavery.

It was more about preserving the United States and protecting the rights of the individual, the very tenets upon which this country was founded. I personally think that the people who profess that the Civil War was only fought about slavery have not read their history books. I really am glad that slavery was abolished, but I don't think it should be glorified as being the sole reason the Civil War was fought. There are so many more issues that people were intensely passionate about at the time. Slavery was one of them, but it was not the primary cause of the war. The primary causes of the war were economics and states' rights.

Slavery was a part of those greater issues, but it was not the reason the Southern States seceded from the Union, nor fought the Civil War. It certainly was a Southern institution that was part of the economic system of the plantations, and because of that, it was part and parcel of the economic reasons that the South formed the Confederacy. The economic issue was one of taxation and being able to sell cotton and other raw materials where the producers wanted to, rather than where they were forced to, and at under inflated prices. Funny, it sounds very much like the reason we broke from Great Britain to begin with. The South was within their rights, but there should have been another way to solve the problem. If they had been willing to listen to Abraham Lincoln, perhaps the war could have been avoided. Lincoln had a plan to gradually free the slaves without it further hurting the plantation owners. He also had a plan to allow them to sell their products anywhere they wanted to and at a fair price. They did not choose to listen to the President, however, so they formed the Confederacy and the Civil War began.

Why does this sound actual?

#5  Former CSA Col. John S. Mosby was quoted in Wikipedia, as having written in 1894: "I've always understood that we went to war on account of the thing we quarreled with the North about. I've never heard of any other cause than slavery."

#6  Estimates are that 12% of Confederate forces were draftees. What they were fighting for (besides not being executed) never gets any discussion.

#7  I've always felt the states rights argument for the civil war was a bit of historical revisionism.

Yes the war was about states rights, but it was specifically the right to have slaves that brought things to war. Yes Lincoln didn't mention slavery until two years in, but that was because everyone in America knew what the war was about but talking about slavery turned public opinion in England against slave picked cotton or any other involvement in the American war.

#8  There was also the issue of slavery in the expanding western territories. The 1820 Missouri compromise was a temporary fix sort of like the 3/5 compromise in the Constitution.

#9  Why are we frequently taught then, that the Civil War, War of Northern Aggression, War Between the States, or whatever you want to call it, was solely about slavery?

There's that damn 13th Amendment thingy. Followed shortly by the 14th (equal protection) and 15th (right to vote). One didn't amend the Constitution lightly (till the Judiciary got around that by 'interpreting' upon whim not text).

Former senior al Shabaab leader says militants should leave group
[Ynet] The one-time deputy leader of Somali Islamist militants al Shabaab called on Tuesday for others to quit the group following his defection to the government side in Mogadishu.

Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansur, who was also al Shabaab's spokesman, said the group did not represent the interests of those it claimed to.

"I left al Shabaab because of misunderstanding, and I disagreed with their creed which does not serve Islamic religion, people and the country," he said.

Robow fell out with al Shabaab in 2013, keeping a low profile in the jungles with his forces until defecting last week. The Islamists have launched multiple attacks to try kill or capture him.

"I urge the militants to leave al Shabaab," Robow told reporters at a heavily guarded hotel in Mogadishu. He took no questions.
