Woman Who Destroyed Durham Confederate Statue Is A Pro-North Korea Marxist
h/t Instapundit
One of the activists who toppled a Confederate statue in Durham, N.C., on Monday night is a member of an extreme leftist group that supports the totalitarian regime in North Korea and wants to abolish capitalism.

Taqiyah Thompson, a student at North Carolina Central University, was arrested Tuesday following a press conference in which she defended the actions of the demonstrators and equated police officers to Confederate soldiers and Ku Klux Klan members.

Van crashes into dozens of people in Barcelona, several injured
MADRID, Aug 17 (Reuters) - A van has crashed into dozens of people in Barcelona's city centre, local police said on Wednesday.

There were several injured in a "massive crash", police said on Twitter. Catalan emergency services said people should not go to the area around Placa Catalunya.
And from Bright Pebbles:
Barcelona police have said the Las Ramblas van crash is a 'terrorist attack'
Please add updates here, rather than starting a new thread.
Added at 2:00 p.m. EDT from Abu Uluque, who had it filed where I wasn't looking as I hurried to get the first post published -- sorry:
Barcelona terror attack – ‘Two dead and many injured' after van mounts pavement and ploughs into pedestrians along Las Ramblas tourist hotspot before driver flees on foot

A TERROR van has ploughed into pedestrians in Barcelona leaving two dead and several injured, according to local reports.

Eyewitness footage and photos from the scene show a huge emergency response after the smash on the iconic Las Ramblas tourist hotspot.

People have been told to avoid the area as emergency services react to a "serious incident" in the Spanish city.

Metro lines have been shut and shoppers and pedestrians have been seen running into buildings as armed police flooded the area.

Testimonies suggest the van careered into pedestrians as they crossed the road .

Police have confirmed that the "massive crash" involved a white van mounting the pavement.

And witnesses have told of hearing gunshots, although this has not been confirmed.

Barcelona is one of the most popular summer destinations for British tourists.

Meet the combat crop duster, armed and armored to join the fight (Video)
[FOX] Crop dusters regularly fly the skies above America’s heartland, but this combat crop duster is unlike anything Americans have ever seen.

This plane is loaded up with weapons and fortified with armor to take the fight to America’s enemies and help protect U.S. forces on the ground.

L3’s Aerospace Systems worked with Air Tractor to transform the classic crop duster into a combat crop duster ready to strike.

Dubbed Longsword, they’ve taken Air Tractor’s AT-802 crop duster and modified it for attack, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

#5  Nope, not gonna replace the A10, but very good for fighting against guerrillas and lightly armed enemies. They can go low and slow and loiter over the target area for a very long time and then rain rockets and lead on multiple targets.

NoMore,

The tooling and jigs for the A-10 were sold for scrap in the early 90s after Fairchild blew a competency gasket trying to build the T-46 Eaglet - a trainer with so many problems and so unstable that it probably would have killed more pilots than it trained. Fairchild had to mortgage everything it had to keep the lights on after the T-46 project went south, and they were paying for the storage on the Hog tooling - USAF hadn't yet decided whether or not to put it in long term storage the way they did with so many other aircraft. Fairchild sold it to save the storage fees and get what they could for scrap, and the USAF didn't lift a finger to stop them.

Bobby,

They pretty much tossed everything that could be used to build a new airframe. It costs money to keep that stuff stored properly, and Fairchild was broke.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Something stinks about Charlottesville
[American Thinker] Evidence is turning up from, of all places, the Southern Poverty Law Center, as well as Breitbart and others, that this character, Jason Kessler, who organized the suspicious and supposed Alt-Right demonstration in Charlottesville, Va. that blew up in everyone's face, is a cunning lefty holdover from the Occupy Wall Street movement and a former Barack Obama supporter. I smell Soros money, sabotage, and Democrat dirty tricks here.

I've been suspicious of the nature of the violence at this supposed Alt-Right demonstration since the news first began breaking. It is no secret that radical elements in the Democrat left have been routinely utilizing violence when it suits their purposes. We also know via secret tapings by Project Veritas that the Democratic Party has a semi-official director of dirty ops, Dick Creamer, who hires, trains, and emplaces professional disruptors to encounter, engage, and infiltrate conservative demonstrations to foment violence, assuring that the demonstrations then become the targets of negative media attention ‐ naturally, against the conservative side. Creamer was caught on videotape boasting about his nefarious capabilities when he thought he was in friendly company.

So here we now have another blown supposedly conservative demonstration, where violence erupts and people are killed, and guess who just happens to be a ringleader of the various ultra-right to Alt-Right organizations ranging from KKK and neo-Nazis to the kind of patriotic folks who might go to a Flag Day celebration! Um, that would be our vaporous political will o' the wisp, Jason Kessler, whose Occupy activities may well have put him in operational cahoots with high-level Democrat operatives. And owing to the leniency of Virginia open carry laws, too many of Jason's followers just had to parade their personal armories in all their camo combat gear, showing off their minuteman firepower. My first reaction at seeing those clowns strutting down the street like they were in Mosul was, like that of many of my fellow NRA members and military veterans, shaking my fist and yelling at the TV, "No! No! No, you idiots! No!" And that kind of award-winning stupidity makes me wonder if the head planner for the event, Jason Soros...er, Kessler, didn't have that firepower demonstration all lined up and ready to go precisely to make those right-wing tools look just like the fools they were being, while scaring the bejeezus out of the lefties, blacks, and MSM twerps.

#6  I think the Kessler thing is a quirk of history but really nothing. Some folks are extreme and may go from one to another.

The problem is the KKK and Nazi's showed up. Even if they were invited he can't make them show up. Once they were going to arrive Antifa was guaranteed to show up.

If you want to know what stinks look into the coverage that tried to make Antifa into heroes instead of covering how they provoked the fights. Look into why the police allowed armed folks to arrive or why they stood down. Those are the conspiracies worth looking into.

#7  It seems to me that having "no open carry" as a condition for a permit for this kind of demonstration would be reasonable. Yes, there would be loud objections citing the 2nd, weather them. Question: were both sides carrying openly?
Posted by: KBK || 08/17/2017 16:06 Comments || Top||

#8  By the way, who put KKK and Nazis on the right of the US political spectrum? KKK voted Democrat. Not sure who they vote for now. Did they vote for Romney? And the Nazis were socialists somewhat to the right of the Communists, and certainly white supremacist nationalists. But they are not Republican or conservative types.

I don't know what the politics of the US Nazis are, other than they like to march around in uniform, bully people, and generally act like assholes.

China-Japan-Koreas
Korean War Part II: Why It's Probably Going To Happen
BLUF:
[Zero Hedge] I predict that there will be an attack blamed on North Korea. Either North Korea will be prodded into a violent reaction, or, a false flag event will be engineered and tied to Pyongyang. Remember, for the first time ever, China has essentially backed off of its opposition to invasion of North Korea as long as North Korea "attacks preemptively." Why? Why didn't they make this exception back in 2013? Because now the international banks want a distraction and China is giving them the opening they require.

Will this war culminate in global nuclear conflagration? No. The establishment has spent decades and untold trillions building it's biometric control grids and staging the new global monetary framework under the SDR system. They are not going to vaporize all of this in an instant through a nuclear exchange. What they will do, though, is launch regional wars and also economic wars. Those people expecting apocalypse in the Hollywood sense are going to find something different, but in my opinion much worse -- a steady but slower decline into economic ruin and global centralization.

Eventually, China and the U.S. will enter hostilities, but these hostilities will lean more towards the financial than the kinetic. The establishment cabal works in stages, not in absolute events. Another Korean war would be a disaster for America, just not in the way many people think.

Will there be a nuclear event? Yes. If war takes place in North Korea then it is likely they will use a nuclear device somewhere in retaliation. We may even see a nuclear event as a false flag catalyst for starting the war in the first place. This will not be a global threat, but a mushroom cloud over any American city or outpost is enough to scare the hell out of most people. It is all that will be needed.

Does this mean "doom" for the American people? It depends on how we react. Will we continue to hold the banking establishment responsible for all of their sabotage previous to a high profile war in the pacific? Or, will we get caught up in the tides of war fever? Will we question the source of future attacks on the U.S., or will we immediately point fingers at whoever the media or government tells us is the enemy? Our response really is the greatest determining factor in whether or not the American ideal of liberty stands or falls. This time, I do not see bluster, but a dark fog very common in the moments preceding conflict. This time, I believe we are indeed facing war, but war is always a means to an end. War is an establishment tool for social engineering on a massive scale.

#1  I think the article misses an important point. It talks about the different Chinese attitudes towards North Korea between 2013 and 2015. The article suggests it has to do with Bank connections but I suspect the North Korean purge of Chinese influence in Dec 2013 probably had a lot to do with the change in Chinese attitudes.

Trump Says Better Jobs and Wages Will Heal American Race Relations
[Breitbart] The Make American Great Again economic program will improve race relations in the U.S., President Donald Trump said at a fiery press conference held in New York City’s Trump Tower on Tuesday.

Trump said that his economic program would create better jobs and rising wages and that this would help heal racial divisions.

Trump has promised to revitalize American manufacturing. On Tuesday he said jobs that had been moved overseas in recent years would soon be "pouring" into America. The day before, Trump announced an investigation into China’s theft of U.S. intellectual property, which earlier studies have estimated may have cost hundreds of thousands of U.S. jobs.

If Trump is able to revitalize manufacturing employment in the U.S., it is likely that African Americans would benefit. Historically, the manufacturing sector was a large employer of African Americans, particularly African American men. And since the unemployment rate among African Americans is 7.4 percent, compared with a white unemployment rate of 3.8 percent, many of the jobs added are likely to be filled by African Americans.

Trump Says Better Jobs and Wages Will Heal American Race Relations

Fat chance.

The Democratic Party's survival depends on keeping African Americans permanently shoeless, clueless and all riled up. The absolute LAST thing Democrats want is black prosperity and they'll do anything to prevent it.

The Google archipelago
On the 4th of December, 1999, I first became acquainted with Google. I know the date because I recorded it, with a pen, in a notebook. My elder son, the techie -- then age thirteen -- explained to me what a "search engine" is, and why I must use it. Too, why he was setting up an email account for me, over my confused objection. For he was tired of running messages for me through his own advanced equipment.

Google was something new; it was chic to all geeks; it would change the world. My little boy saw which way the wind would blow, with fair precision. The printed page was doomed, except as print-out and back-up. He was excited; I was appalled.

Of course I am appalled by any kind of "progress." But there was more to it than that. The ability to send and receive, to store and retrieve, at such speed with such ease on such a scale, would indeed change everything. It did not portend the final victory of mere data and information over knowledge and wisdom; it achieved this. And while I could not yet envisage, in detail, the new zombie world of people attached to their "devices," as to their clothing and tattoos, I could within a year.

...With traditional religion already washed from the brains of the young, we would now be swept by the new religion of the electronic mob. It could have no anchor. Words themselves would humpty-dumpty at a greatly accelerated pace. The great mass of the deracinated were, in a sense, passing outside time. Henceforth they would live only in the present, with no conception of the past; and too, no appreciation of the future. They would cease to feel responsible for the consequences of their acts.

For morality would be reduced to opinion, and opinion dictated by the electronic mob. The "winners" in the new political order could only be the purveyors of fashion; and fashion is on the Left. This has been so since the French Revolution. Style means Left; Right means outmoded.

We come to James Damore, a young man of partially independent mind, who wrote (at management request)
Wait -- what?? I hadn't read that it was at the request of management!
a memo on the Google company’s "diversity" efforts. With all statements of fact carefully sourced, and all arguments modestly reasoned, he suggested that certain known realities about human nature might play a part in human behaviour; that there could be reasons beyond conscious oppression why, for instance, women were so rare in high tech. When this memo was "outed," he was not only fired, but then exhaustively smeared, not only by his employers but by millions who do not feel the slightest compunction to read what they attack, and could not follow it if they tried. This is our brave, unctuous new world of "shamestorming."

Alas, it is just what I was expecting, from Google of course, but also from all major Internet operators (from Facebook to GoDaddy). They take upon themselves the "Don’t be evil" responsibility to censor and smear all viewpoints that vary from their own passing notions. Combining intellectual mediocrity with unprecedented power, they will now "command the good."

#3  I think I mentioned a couple years ago that all the snowflakes who get hurt feelings so easily will be coming to an HR department near you. Now corporate america is infected with it.

To be Googled: To be fired for expressing an opinion which is different from the corporate group-think. No matter how reasonable the expression is or how the corporation expresses its acceptance of 'diversity' and 'differing opinions'.

In fact the more strident they claim 'diversity' the more narrow the boundaries of their acceptable ideas.

Confederate Statues Today, Book Burnings Tomorrow?
[Wash Times] A crowd of ignorant protesters pulled down a bronze Confederate statue that stood before a county government building in Durham, North Carolina — the angry national backlash to the Charlottesville brouhaha over the Robert E. Lee monument.

This is not how civil societies operate. And yet this is what the left has brought, and now cheers.

What’s next — burning books with offensive content?
Burning books written by those who used to own slaves? At the very least, museums will have to go.

The problem with revising history based on a standard of “feeling offensive” — as this anti-Confederate craze is rooted — is that someone, somewhere will always take offense at something.

For instance, once upon a time in America, women couldn’t vote for the president of this country. Neither could non-property owners, for the most part, or Indians, in addition to blacks. That’s offensive. Shall we tear down American flags — destroy copies of the Constitution — in symbolic protest of the bondage and discrimination to which these so-deemed second-class members of society were subjected? Or should we just go for the big score and burn down the Rotunda of the National Archives Building, where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are stored?

LA County leaders greenlight effort to pay homeowners to house the homeless
[LA Daily News] A pilot program that pays some Los Angeles County homeowners to build a second dwelling on their property to house homeless people was approved with a 4-0 vote Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.

Homeowners in unincorporated communities who qualify can receive up to $75,000 to build a second dwelling in areas zoned for such structures, while others may get $50,000 to update and legalize an existing dwelling.

The program was introduced last year as part of Los Angeles County’s set of 47 strategies to solve homelessness. The office of Regional Planning will work with several departments countywide with an allocated $550,000 in part to be used to offer subsidies.

Unlike a guest house, second dwellings include kitchens.

The program also will streamline the permitting process and provide technical assistance to homeowners within the county’s unincorporated areas, who would qualify, officials said.

Details of who would be housed and the selection process are still under discussion, said supervising regional planner Connie Chung on Monday. Funding allows for two to three new second dwellings, and for the remodeling of two to three existing ones, she added.

The program is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Homelessness spiked 23 percent across Los Angeles County’s neighborhoods and suburbs this year compared with 2016, with more than 55,000 people sleeping on sidewalks, in their cars, or along the Los Angeles River, according to results of a count taken in January and released in May.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles city and county voters approved two measures recently: Proposition HHH, a parcel tax, was approved by voters in the city of Los Angeles in November and is expected to raise $1.2 billion in bonds for the construction of 10,000 units of housing. Measure H, a quarter-cent sales tax, was passed by Los Angeles County voters in March to raise an estimated $355  million a year for 10 years to help homeless people transition into planned affordable housing. That quarter-cent sales tax is set to begin on Oct. 1.

#9  to help homeless people transition into planned affordable housing

Just remember, 'Affordable Housing' is usually not affordable. It's heavily subsidized (let's just call it 'free') for the 'underprivileged'. Guess who pays for that.

Otherwise the required rents/payments are well beyond what most homeless can afford.

So the '$355  million a year for 10 years' is just the tip of the iceberg for the compassionate voters in LA County.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Violent Tribalism on Display in Charlottesville
[Townhall] When it comes to political violence such as we witnessed in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend, there are no partisan "sides" to the issue. In an enlightened society, you either believe violence is an acceptable means to an end, or you do not. In this parity, there is no room for equivocation, where the perceived nobleness or virtue of one’s agenda can excuse it. Initiating force against any group or individual for the sake of achieving a political goal or simply making a political statement, is morally and legally wrong. Full stop.

Last weekend was a national embarrassment in every sense of the word; from the pathetic display of a bunch of wimps carrying Tiki torches trying to look tough, to yet another appearance of masked "Antifa" thugs sucker-punching anyone with whom they disagree. Initially too, President Trump, missing what could have been a defining moment for his young presidency, tip-toed over the violence rather than offering a dose of his trademark blustering and rage to blast the neo-Nazis who reflect the worst side of humanity. Instead, Trump, like so many others on the Left and Right, once again attempted to distill the deplorable conduct into a political blame game, insinuating one side would have been "right" if not for the provocation of the other.

Attempting to ascribe degrees of blame to the protest groups in Charlottesville misses the point entirely about today’s political violence. The Alt-Right’s venomous racism is no more, or less, contemptible than the Alt-Left’s belief that offensive speech must be banned at any price. Violence is violence, regardless of the politics behind it.

If there is a side to the violence in Charlottesville, both of these groups are on it and deserve our scorn as practitioners of a toxic, post-modern mindset that there is no objective truth other than how they see it, and that protecting their truth is the true pubic good. In fact, aside from differing political agendas, these neo-Nazis and Antifa-ites are cut from the same cloth. Both wallow in delusions of self-righteousness, and embrace violence as an acceptable, if not noble, means of achieving their political goals. Most of all, they suffer from the same paranoia of oppression that drive them into virulent tribalism.

"Tribalism is a product of fear," declared philosopher Ayn Rand, "and fear is the dominant emotion of any person, culture or society that rejects...reason." The reality is that our true enemy today is not a Nazi flag or a black balaclava; those are only physical manifestations of tribalism. Rather, our real enemy is the philosophy of those who use such symbols. It is the rejection of reason in favor of emotional sophistry driven by fear and designed to produce more of it. This is the source of today’s violence, and reflects the fact that only violence can exist in the vacuum of reason.

#1  I don't see that's so unexpected about it. The progressives/melanin enriched/sexually aberrant keep treating white males the way Europeans treated Jews. But, these are not Jews: they are not a minority forbidden to own weapons. The fact that every antifa/BLM demonstration does not encounter sniper fire, shows how tolerant (maybe too tolerant) white male americans are.

#2  Violent tribalism at Charlottesville? It is a tested model the left has used since at least the 1960's and perhaps even before. The model is:

1. Some dog-whistle event is sponsored by some group.
2. The sponsoring group is usually the left. If an opposing group shows up, all the better.
2. It is usually sold as a "peaceful" protest.
3. A relatively small group of thug elements shows up to introduce violence. These are the hard-core professional activists, the head busters.
4. Violence then occurs.
5. Maybe someone dies, say someone on the left.
6. The MSM goes nuts and demonizes whoever is against their agenda.
7. They (the left and its propaganda arm, the MSM) hope fervently, that the death will be due to some stupid act by a white male extremist who is at the sponsored event.
8. The hapless person who gets killed often is some innocent.
9. The press and the left goes into a feeding frenzy with their martyr and endless stories about this 'terrible, terrible, most horrible event.'

I've observed this same model or some variation of it used over and over during the past fifty years or so. During the 1960's, there were hard core sponsored thugs working behind the scenes to promote violence in such things as Kent State. Bill Ayers and associates traveled to the Mideast prior to the Arab Spring to "express solidarity." You'd think the press would catch on but most likely they don't 'catch on' because they are ideologically in step with those who promote these events.

#3  Political violence has well established roots. Interesting bit on the bombers and their prison sentences:

Robert Fassnacht was a 33-year-old postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. On the night and early morning of August 23/24, 1970, he had gone to the lab to finish up work before leaving on a family vacation.[20] He was involved in research in the field of superconductivity. At the time of the explosion, Fassnacht was in his lab located in the basement level of Sterling Hall. He was monitoring an experiment when the explosion occurred.[21] Rescuers found him face down in about a foot of water. He was survived by his wife, Stephanie, and their three children, a three-year-old son, Christopher, and twin one-year-old daughters, Heidi and Karin.

Injured in the bombing were Paul Quin, David Schuster, and Norbert Sutler. Schuster, a South African graduate student,[22] who became deaf in one ear and with only partial hearing in the other ear,[23] was the most seriously injured of the three, suffering a broken shoulder, fractured ribs and a broken eardrum; he was buried in the rubble for three hours before being rescued by firefighters. Quin, a postdoctoral physics researcher, and Sutler, a university security officer, suffered cuts from shattered glass and bruises.[2] Quin, who became a physics professor at U. W. Madison, always refused to discuss the bombing in public.[23]

FBI Investigator Leaves Mueller's Russia Probe
[Free Beacon] Robert Mueller has lost one of the members of his special counsel investigation into Russian tampering in the 2016 presidential election.

Experienced FBI investigator Peter Strzok has left the special counsel team and joined the bureau's human resources division, ABC News reports. It is unclear why Strzok decided to leave Mueller's probe.

The news has been rife with stories about Mueller's expanding probe into potential ties between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russia, and Strzok's departure marks the only known exit among Mueller's principal team.

Mueller's probe has grown increasingly aggressive in recent weeks. The FBI raided former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort's home last month, and it also came out that he had impaneled a grand jury in Washington, D.C.

Dear Leftists, There Are No Nazis Under Your Bed
h/t Instapundit
Stop seeing Nazis under your bed. Yeah, I know, the rally at Charlottesville has proven there are real Nazis and KKK in America, and you’re all very scared that the nonsense you’ve been talking for years is true.

I’ve heard the rally by Unite the Right (a misnomer, and yes, we’ll get to it later) comprised around a hundred people. Sources trying to make us really scared have increased that to four hundred, but I am sure they’re also including the self-named Antifa.

So a hundred, maybe four hundred, in the South, in what you guys consider (ignorantly) to be the bastion of racism/sexism/other isms that might occur to you. ... Out of a nation of three hundred million.

Whether or not this turned into a fight, whether or not the hilariously ineffective law enforcement was ordered to stand down, whether or not in the confusion a woman was murdered or at least killed, I want you to think about those numbers. Use your fingers and toes, if needed. Let’s make this clear: if there were four hundred neo-Nazis (and that’s assuming some of them weren’t just stupid) there, which there probably weren’t, that’s one in every seven hundred and fifty thousand people in America.

Australia's most notorious ISIS jihadist 'killed in an air strike in Syria that also claimed the lives of his two sons, aged 11 and 12'

  • Also dead were his sons Abdullah, 12 and Zarqawi, 11, after their car was blown up by a coalition missile last Friday near Raqqa

  • Photos of their bodies were reportedly sent to several Australian extremists

  • One of his brothers also confirmed their deaths to Islamic rebels in Australia

  • Before joining ISIS, Sharrouf served almost four years’ jail for his role in the 2005 Pendennis terror conspiracy to attack in Sydney and Melbourne.

  • He was stripped of his Australian citizenship earlier this year.

Leb Parliament Scraps Controversial Rape-Marriage Law
First Jordan, now Lebanon. Interesting times...
[AnNahar] The parliament approved on Wednesday the annulment of a controversial law allowing rapists who marry their victims to go free.

Article 522 of the penal code, which exempts the rapist from punishment in the event of his marriage to the victim, was scrapped during a legislative session held at Nejmeh Square.

Article 522 -- which deals with rape, assault, kidnapping and forced marriage -- was approved by a parliamentary committee in February.

Lebanese activists have ramped up several campaigns to scrap the law.

The reviled article, which also deals with the rape of minors, allows offenders to escape punishment by wedding their victims.

Israeli forces demolish house of al-Aqsa attack suspect
[Al Jazeera] Israeli soldiers have demolished the family house of a Paleostinian man, who stabbed three Israelis to death last month over Israel's crackdown on entry to the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

The destruction of the home on Wednesday took place in the village of Kobar in the occupied West Bank.

The move comes a day after Israel's military prosecutor announced that the state would charge five family members of the 20-year-old alleged attacker, Omar al-Abed, who is currently in jug in Israel.

Israeli soldiers have jugged

in the 'forced divorce' case in which a panchayat ordered a man to sign divorce papers on gunpoint, said City Police Officer (CPO) Multan, Chaudhary Saleem, on Wednesday.

"Paperwork was started but nothing else was done against six members of the panchayat yesterday and two of them have been arrested already," Chaudhary Saleem told DawnNews.

"I personally contacted the couple yesterday; they are together and safe as they have been provided security," he added.

The case came to light on Tuesday when the couple -- Uzma Batool and Mohammad Adnan -- moved the Lahore High Court for protection from the members of a panchayat -- comprising their family members -- who had allegedly forced Adnan to sign divorce papers on gunpoint.

US-led strikes against IS group kill 17 civilians in Syria's Raqqa: Monitor
The death of a human shield is the resposibility of those who hide behind, according to the Geneva Conventions, not those who shoot through.
[AlAhram] US-led coalition air strikes on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's remaining territory in Syria's Raqqa city killed 17 civilians on Wednesday, including children, a monitor said.

The coalition is providing air support in the form of heavy air strikes for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia as it battles to oust IS group from its onetime stronghold.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitor, said the deaths on Wednesday followed two days of deadly strikes.

Since Monday, the monitor said, 38 civilians have been killed in US-led air strikes on the city.

Wednesday's deaths included five children, according to the monitor, which relies on a network of sources on the ground.

The coalition says it takes measures to avoid civilian casualties and investigates credible allegations of civilian deaths.

The United States has admitted that coalition strikes have killed 624 civilians in Syria and Iraq since 2014.

But rights groups and monitors say the figure is exponentially higher than that.

Al-Qaeda Urges Muslims to Derail Trains in Britain and U.S.
[Breitbart] al-Qaeda’s glossy magazine has urged Moslems to attack trains in Britannia and the U.S., claiming tracks are a weak spot in the West, and gives detailed instruction on how to sabotage lines.

Safeguarding thousands of miles of track is "practically impossible" and attacks would cause "great damage and destruction" without the need for explosives, the terrorist group said in the 17th edition of Inspire, which is "dedicated" to train attacks.

ANA hammering Taliban in Faryab
At least 80 Taliban insurgents were killed in ongoing operations to clear Ghormach district of insurgents after it collapsed to the Taliban on Sunday, local officials said.

In addition, 30 other insurgents were wounded.

“Four key Taliban commanders are among those killed in ongoing operations,” a spokesman for the provincial governor, Ahmad Jawid Bedar said adding that “Taliban have suffered heavy casualties in the operations.”

“The forces are also receiving air support from the Afghan air forces,” Bedar said.

Ghormach has been one of the most insecure districts in the past 10 years.

However, the Taliban have not yet commented about their casualties in the clashes.

In the meantime, civil society activists in Faryab believe that “one of the reasons that the district is insecure is a lack of security forces”. They appealed to government “to hand over the security responsibility of the district to western security zone.”
Despite launching military operations, the security forces are yet to re-take control of the district.

Amnesty sounds alarm as Indonesia slays drug suspects
[Al Jazeera] Amnesia Amnesty International has condemned what it described as an alarming number of police killings of suspected drug pushers in Indonesia.

The rights group said on Wednesday that police had killed at least 60 suspects this year, compared to 18 in all of 2016.

The group warned that Indonesian authorities could be looking to emulate the "war on drugs" in the Philippines, in which thousands have been killed.

"This shocking escalation in unlawful killings by the police sounds serious alarms bells," said Usman Hamid, Amnesty's Indonesia director.

The group said it had collected data of the killings.

Shooting people on sight is not only unlawful, said Hamid, "it will also do nothing to address the root causes that lead to drug use in the first place".

UN chief: Time to 'dial down rhetoric' on North Korea
[Al Jazeera] United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said it was time to "dial down rhetoric and dial up diplomacy" on North Korea, offering to help broker talks with the parties involved in the dispute.

"My good offices are always available ‐ and I conveyed this message yesterday to the representatives of the six-party talks," Guterres told news hounds on Wednesday amid growing tensions on the Korean Peninsula since Pyongyang conducted ballistic missiles test last month.

"The solution to this crisis must be political. The potential consequences of military action are too horrific to even contemplate."

The UN chief's comments come on the day China warned North Korea and the United States to "hit the brakes" on threats and actions, and work towards a peaceful resolution of their dispute.

Caribbean-Latin America
Adios chavismo?
[DAWN] IT was almost 20 years ago that Hugo Chavez threatened to upset the established order in Latin America with the first of his many electoral victories. Six years after he had led an abortive coup attempt in Venezuela, he decisively won the 1998 presidential election and set about ushering in the transformation he had in mind.

One of his first steps was to bring in a new constitution, which won approval in a popular vote. That Chavez’s chosen successor, Nicolas Maduro, is now determined to rewrite that constitution, seemingly against the popular will, is widely viewed as a desperate gamble by a leader who is out of his depth, yet determined to cling on to power.

Maduro was elected president by a small margin in 2013, largely on the basis of his predecessor’s imprimatur, after Chavez sadly succumbed to cancer in 2013, but the parliamentary elections two years later yielded a substantial majority for the disparate opposition. The constituent assembly that Maduro has assembled following a disputed electoral exercise is obviously intended to override that democratic disadvantage. But it marks a significant break with Chavismo, given that none of the elections that sustained Chavez in power was manipulated.

Hamas pledges to ‘crush’ Israel if Gaza attacked
Like they did last time? How dreadfully frightening.
[Iran Press TV] The Paleostinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, has pledged to "crush Israel in case it wages another war on the besieged Gazoo Strip.

Israeli media reports on Wednesday cited Hamas leader in Gazoo Yahya Sinwar as saying that while the movement was not looking to start a war, it was well prepared to take on the Tel Aviv regime’s military forces at any time.

"We do not seek confrontation with the Israelis, but if the confrontation happens, we will crush them," Sinwar was quoted as saying on Tuesday.

The Hamas chief, who was appointed in February to succeed Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
to head the movement’s political office in Gazoo, said any "stupid steps" by Israel against the coastal enclave would be met with a response greater than the one the movement gave to the 2014 Israeli invasion.

July marked the third anniversary of the 51-day Israeli war on Gazoo that left more than 2,200 people dead and over 11,000 others injured. Gazoo stood its ground and was able to repel the ruthless invasion.

"Israel is not launching a new war against Gazoo, which stresses Tel Aviv's fear of the unknown that awaits it in Gazoo," the Paleostinian leader asserted.

ISIS slavemonger dies in airstrike in Mutaibija

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State leader who procured women captives to militants was killed in an air raid east of Salahuddin, a local source in the province said Wednesday.

Alsumaria News quoted the source saying that warplanes, which the source did not identify, killed Abul-Hareth al-Iraqi in a strike on al-Boujomaa village in Mutaibija. Another companion was also killed in the raid, said the source.

“al-Iraqi was from Tal Afar, and was in charge of one of the biggest detention facilities for women captured in the summer of 2014 in Sinjar,” said the source. “He was later referred to as “brides emir”, being in charge of procuring female hostages for Islamic State’s leaders.

Since they declared a self-styled “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014, Islamic State militants have notoriously held civilians as human shields and used women as sex slaves. They also shot dead civilians while attempting to flee their havens.

Hekmatyar-led Hezb-e-Islami harshly criticizes pro-Iran media of sparking tensions
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Hezb-e-Islami led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
... who used to be known in intelligence circles as The Most Evil Man in the World but who now seems merely run-of-the-mill evil...
has harshly criticized certain media outlets, specifically the ones being operated from Iran, of sparking tensions among the various sects, groups, or movements in Afghanistan.

and ISIS turbans in Afghanistan, Hezb-e-Islami strongly condemned the reports suggesting that the party will side with Deash, ISIS loyalists, in the event tensions further intensify among the two Death Eater groups.

According to a statement by Hezb-e-Islami, such rumors and reports are only aimed sparking further tensions among the people belonging to different sects and groups in a bid to keep fueling the violence in Afghanistan.

The statement further added that the ISIS turbans operating in Afghanistan are only the former turbans of the Taliban group who have only changed their insurgency by changing the color of their flags.

The party also insisted that the ideology of the ISIS group in Iraq and Syria are far more different than the ones operating in Afghanistan.

Police arrest 72 Palestinians suspected in Temple Mount riots
[IsraelTimes] Officials say 43 of those detained in past week have been charged with violent offenses during festivities last month in Jerusalem

Police have incarcerated
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in the past week 72 Paleostinians who were allegedly involved in violent protests against Israel last month, as tensions surrounding Jerusalem’s Temple Mount compound soared.

Law enforcement officials said 43 of those arrested have been charged so far.

Police said the suspects had engaged in violent acts such as throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails and glass bottles at officers as well as shooting fireworks at them.

Officials said they had since gathered information on the suspects, and in the past week carried out two major arrest operations, in which the 72 suspects were taken in for questioning.

"Anyone involved, directly or indirectly, in violent riots, will be arrested and prosecuted," Jerusalem Police Chief Yoram Halevi said.

Jerusalem saw weeks of high tensions and demonstrations last month. In a July 14 terror attack, three Arab Israelis rubbed out two coppers using weapons smuggled into the Temple Mount.

After Israel installed metal detectors and cameras in response to the attack, Moslem worshipers refused to enter the site until the security measures were removed, while protesters staged near-daily protests in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, some of which turned violent. Five Paleostinians were killed. A Paleostinian terrorist murdered three members of the Salomon family in their home in the Halamish settlement.

The crisis was contained when Israeli authorities removed the newly installed measures amid heavy pressure from Jordan, the custodian of religious affairs at the Temple Mount, and the Paleostinians.

Michael Sharp, an American who was coordinator of an independent sanctions monitoring group, and Zaida Catalan, a Swede, were killed in central DRC on March 12 while carrying out investigations for a report to the UN Security Council.

The bodies of Sharp and Catalan were found in a shallow grave two weeks later. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres set up an internal board of inquiry and gave an executive summary of the findings to the Security Council on Tuesday.

Former Klingon Master: Trump's comments on Charlottesville are 'a national disgrace'
[Wash Examiner] Former CIA Director John Brennan slammed President Trump for his comments Tuesday about the violence in Charlottesville, Va., calling them "a national disgrace" and warning the president is putting the country's national security and "our collective futures at grave risk."

"Mr. Trump's words, and the beliefs they reflect, are a national disgrace, and all Americans of conscience need to repudiate his ugly and dangerous comments," Brennan said in a note sent to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, which he read on air Wednesday. "If allowed to continue along this senseless path, Mr. Trump will do lasting harm to American society and to our standing in the world.

"By his words and his actions, Mr. Trump is putting our national security and our collective futures at grave risk," Brennan added.

Brennan, who was CIA director during the Obama administration, also called Trump's comments "despicable."

The Disposition Matrix, informally known as a kill list, is a database of information for tracking, capturing, rendering, or killing suspected enemies of the United States federal government.[1] Developed by the Obama administration beginning in 2010, the "Disposition Matrix" goes beyond existing kill lists and is intended to become a permanent fixture of U.S. policy.[1] The process determining criteria for killing is not public and was heavily shaped by National Counterterrorism Director and former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John O. Brennan.[2]

Supreme Court acquits three people on murder charges in 2009 case
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned the life imprisonment sentence of two men and a woman over a murder committed some eight years ago, clearing them of all charges.

The court dismissed all sentences handed to the primary suspect Tahir Imran and two others -- Rubina Kausar and Kamran -- who had been convicted of killing a man, Akhtar Javaid, in Rawalpindi's R.A. Bazaar on April 21, 2009.

A trial court had sentenced Imran, Kausar and Kamran -- the dear departed's brother-in-law, wife and brother, respectively -- to death after finding them guilty of murdering Javaid over a family dispute. A high court had later turned their sentence into life imprisonment.

"The prosecution failed to prove [its] case," a three-judge bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, said in its judgement on the acquittal plea filed by Imran against the conviction. The court ordered that the accused be released.

"Unfortunately in Punjab, if the charges are proven, death sentence [is handed down], and if the charges are not proven, life imprisonment is announced [by the courts]," Justice Khosa regretted in his remarks.

Commenting on the prosecution of the case, Justice Khosa said that it has become a tradition in Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

to accuse the slain victim's wife of his murder if the suspected murderer is unknown.

The wife of the victim is usually shown to be involved in the murder case in order to usurp the couple's property, the judge regretted.

He said that the Pak society should understand by now that judgements are given in the justice system on the basis of testimonies.

"Whenever false witnesses will be presented [in the court], the real culprits will continue to be acquitted," Justice Khosa remarked.

"The justice system cannot be established without truth."

Justice Khosa said that the time had come for handing life imprisonments to those who level false allegations against others.

Two injured by shell fired from across Afghan border
[DAWN] LANDI KOTAL: Two schoolchildren were maimed when one of the two mortar shells fired from across the Afghan border went kaboom! near the hostel of the Army Public School inside an army camp here on Tuesday.

Officials said that the other shell landed in an empty compound and caused no damage. The attack, which the officials blamed was launched from the Afghan side, created panic among people present inside the camp.

After the attack security personnel rushed to the area and shifted students to a safe place. They closed the Army Public School. The officials said the two injured students were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Security around the army camp and other government installations was further tightened with security personnel patrolling the roads.

two Paleostinians who crossed into Israel from the Gazoo Strip on Wednesday. The army said that the two were taken for questioning after being captured by IDF soldiers, who spotted them crossing the border fence in southern Gazoo. Sources said that the two were not carrying weapons at the time they were caught.

There was no immediate comment from the IDF on why the men crossed into Israel.

The border fence contains a bevy of sensors and cameras to support the large number of soldiers who regularly patrol the area. Infiltrators are typically caught within moments.

Residents of Gazoo occasionally cross the border into Israel, and are generally unarmed. They often do so with the intention of getting caught, seeking to escape the harsh circumstances in the Strip.

Last week two other Paleostinians were apprehended after crossing the border, and in July three were scooped up in similar circumstances.

Syria says US, allies supplying terrorists with toxic agents
[Iran Press TV] Syria says the US, Britannia and their allies are supporting gunnies in the war-torn Arab country by supplying them with toxic agents and other kinds of weapons.

During a presser in the Syrian Foreign Ministry’s main office in the capital Damascus, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said on Wednesday that toxic agents found in the cities of Aleppo and Damascus were made by US and UK companies, Syrian's official news agency SANA reported.

He also called on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to investigate those countries' actions in his country.

Mekdad added that since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, the West, based on false allegations made by the gunnies they support, has usually blamed the government in Damascus for various incidents of the use of chemical weapons throughout the country.

He stressed that the US has even used those "fabrications" as a pretext to attack the town of Khan Shaykhun in Idlib province without launching an investigation into the terrorists' claims.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Ballot fraud won’t send elderly Miami woman to jail but she will lose right to vote
[MIAMIHERALD] Everybody agreed: When Gladys Coego covertly filled in other people’s absentee ballots while working at the Miami-Dade elections headquarters, she chipped away at the integrity of the voting system.

But at 74, Coego is elderly, diabetic and depressed, her relatives told a judge on Wednesday.

She had no previous criminal record. And nobody -- not detectives, prosecutors or even Coego herself -- could say why she filled in the ballots. She had no known ties to any campaign, there was no evidence anyone paid her and she illegally filled only a few ballots before being spotted. Yet her small-time case
...that's an awful lot of protesting about so many things unknown. Perhaps someone should actually find out...
led to bigly national headlines, coming as then-candidate Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
railed about widespread national voter fraud.

"Emotionally, I am destroyed," Coego said in Spanish. "I have no explanation for what I have done. ... No one offered me anything in exchange for what I did."

For those reasons, a Miami-Dade judge on Wednesday declined to sentence Coego to jail, instead ordering her to serve two years of house arrest, plus three years of probation.

Circuit Judge Alberto Milián acknowledged that "there is a perception in this community that there is a lack of integrity in the election process, especially in the issue of absentee ballots."

Europe
Turkey asks Germany for extradition of top coup suspect
[DW] Ankara has formally requested that Berlin arrest and extradite a man suspected of playing a major role in last year's failed coup. The request follows reports suggesting the theology lecturer was spotted in Germany.

Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
sent a diplomatic note to Germany, demanding the extradition of runaway Adil Oksuz.

Cavusoglu told broadcaster TRT Haber that Ankara sent the note following reports that Oksuz was seen in Germany.

"If this person is there, we asked that he be located, taken into custody and returned to Turkey," the minister said.

Oksuz, a theology academic, is accused of being a follower of US-based holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, who Ankara says was behind last year's failed coup attempt.

Ottoman Turkish media reported that Oksuz has been seen in the German cities of Frankfurt and Ulm and was granted a temporary residence permit in the southwestern state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

Turkey's most wanted
The Ottoman Turkish government says that Oksuz was a "civilia holy man" for air force personnel who bombed parliament last July as part of efforts to topple the government.

Oksuz was jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
at Akinci air base once the coup bid collapsed, but was released two days later by an alleged Gulenist judge. He has been on the run ever since and is one of Turkey's most wanted runaways.

Footage released after the failed coup showed Oksuz and his alleged assistant, businessman Kemal Batmaz, arriving at the main airport in Istanbul two days before the attempted putsch.

Ottoman Turkish authorities say the men were returning from a trip to the US where they allegedly met with Gulen, who denies involvement and has condemned the attempted putsch. He has been living in Pennsylvania in self-imposed exile since 1999.

Batmaz remains in detention following his arrest immediately following the failed coup and is awaiting trial

More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

Battle of Tal Afar: Snipers deployed, rest of the Iraqi forces getting ready

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi police announced on Tuesday the deployment of snipers on the outskirts of the district of Tal Afar in preparation for the military operation against ISIS.

The commander of the federal police, Raid Jawdat, said in a statement that the federal police forces of the 5th and 3rd divisions, sniper teams, dozens of armored vehicles and aircraft has been readied the outskirts of Tal Afar.

Jawdat confirmed the completion of all logistical preparations to start the battle of Tal Afar and recover it from the grips of ISIS.

ISIS Bad Guy dies in attack on checkpoint at Nabi Yunus market

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State gunman was killed by Iraqi security forces after attacking a checkpoint in the eastern side of Mosul, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The militant, who attacked the checkpoint at Nabi Yunus market, was carrying a pistol and two grenades, said the ministry.

Since the Iraqi government declared early July the recapture of Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital in Iraq, police forces have been combing both sides of the city for sleeper militant cells and munition hiding places. The militants have also launched a few sporadic attacks against troops and civilians since the declaration.

The Iraqi government intends to aim at other Islamic State havens in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin once it is done with retaking Tal Afar, Islamic State’s last stronghold in Nineveh which the Defense Ministry had completed preparations for invading. The Defense Ministry said recently it was waiting for orders to launch operations for the enclave. So far, operations by pro-government militias, the Popular Mobilization, have isolated the town from Mosul and from the Syrian borders, and retook several surrounding villages.

Kurds detain 30 ISIS suspects in Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Kurdish Peshmerga forces arrested 30 Islamic State militants near Tal Afar, Islamic State’s last haven in Nineveh province, a security source said Wednesday.

Mawazin News quoted the source saying that the militants were arrested over the past four days while attempting to flee the enclave towards Peshmerga-held territories.

According to the same source, more than 600 civilians, mostly Turkmen, had fled Tal Afar towards Peshmerga deployments.

Tal Afar is 65 kilometers west of Mosul, and is home to a mixed Turkmen and Arab population. Iraqi forces recaptured Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital, early July after more than eight months of U.S.-backed offensives.

Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi and his defense officials have marked Tal Afar as their next target of anti-Islamic State action. Iraqi defense officials said recently that warplanes were carrying out raids on the enclave in preparation for the ground invasion which is yet to be scheduled.

Tal Afar has reportedly seen divisions among Islamic State leaderships, with occasional news telling of power conflicts and dissents among leaders, as well as attempts by some militants to flee the anticipated battle field.

Since Iraqi forces launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Mosul in 2016, paramilitary troops managed to isolate the town from the Syrian borders and from the rest of Nineveh.

Arabia
Extremist ideologies bane for nation states
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] From the time of the creation of the modern nation state, history has taught us that only those societies survive and enjoy security, stability and tranquility, whose people have learnt to coexist with each other and forge cohesive bonds.

When this feeling of shared identity is compromised, members of society drift apart on the basis of various sectarian and doctrinal differences. As a consequence, states begin to fail and implode leading to protracted civil wars that cause widespread bloodshed and mayhem.

The dismal situation in Syria and Iraq is the consequence of sectarian strife. It is also a living example of the decline in civility and patriotism toward the homeland, which has been replaced by fanaticism towards a particular religious denomination or sect.

It seems the Arab people have yet to grasp the importance of coexistence among citizens of a society, even if they differ on sectarian or doctrinal basis. Iraq, Syria and Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
are currently in the throes of civil wars that cease momentarily only to start again. Unfortunately, I don’t see them ending anytime soon.

Medieval Europe and sectarian wars
In Europe of the Middle Ages, sectarian and doctrinal wars were the main cause of death for millions of people. At that time, Catholics and Protestants were vying to obliterate each other through violent means.

Decades of protracted wars later, they found out that the solution to their problem lay in overcoming differences and in developing the spirit of coexistence among different peoples, irrespective of the variance in their religious persuasions.

This conviction led them to rebuild human society as we know now. They also believed that all those who indulged in sectarian violence should be condemned by law. This laid the foundations for a superior human civilization that the world enjoys today, with its benefits of progress, innovation and development in all spheres of life.

Thus, the only way for establishing security, stability and tranquility lies in our taking lessons from these experiences. In order to get rid of fanaticism and animosity among sects and ideologies we have to replace them with values of loyalty and obedience toward the homeland, which should be a state that looks after all of its citizens regardless of their sectarian or doctrinal persuasion.

Iran exploiting sectarianism
By using sectarianism to achieve its expansionist ambitions, Iran has invaded its neighboring countries, stoked the flames of fanaticism in these societies, and targeted their stability and security by raking up Shiite fanaticism. It is a historical fact that before Khomeini’s revolution in Iran, Arab societies lived in peace and harmony.

Since the advent of this holy manal regime, sectarian strife among members of the same religious community, both in the Arab and Islamic countries, has increased. The ongoing sectarian conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Yemen prove my statement.

It is important for us in the Gulf to learn the lessons of the countries of the Arab North, and to refrain from sliding into those divisions that have the potential to obliterate all we cherish and cause enormous bloodshed. The ultimate losers in such wars will of course be citizens, regardless of their sectarian affiliations.

#2  Nation states require a dominant ethnic group, and other groups to be sufficiently small as to not threaten the dominant group.

The only exception I can think of is the Austro-Hungarian empire.

Which makes immigration into Anglophone countries particularly concerning.

In the U.S. we have non-dominant groups that hold sway, i.e. all the "victim groups." These various non-dominant victim groups are cobbled together to obtain large voting blocs to win elections--at least that is the model of the Dems in the past.

#8  Muslim countries are pretend nation states.

AKA Tribes with flags.

One of the major problems caused by WWI was the Wilsonian ideal of "Self Determination". While it sounds great in theory it tends to crash on the shoals of "what defines a self". "Self" rapidly breaks down into my tribe or even family. This is what defines most of the Middle East and Africa today.

Obaid bin Daghar sez Houthis, militias close to defeat
Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obaid bin Daghar declared on Wednesday that his country’s army and popular resistance are close to score a real and final victory over coup militias which controls capital Sanaa, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) .

According to the Yemeni news agency, the victory on the Iran-backed Houthi militias and troops loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh will spark Yemenis aspirations to establish a federal state consisting of six provinces, guarantor of equality and justice in wealth and power.

During his meeting with the governors of Amran and Rima provinces, the Yemeni official praised the heroic role of the people of the two provinces in confronting the coupist militias and their efforts to restore legitimacy and preserve the republic and unity.

Insurgency militias overran the capital Sanaa, forcing the internationally-backed government led by President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi to re-establish a temporary capital in Aden. Each of the United States and Saudi Arabia have accused Houthi militias of receiving Iranian funds and arms.

A Saudi-led coalition, composing a number of Arab states, intervened to back Yemen’s pro-legitimacy forces to regain control over the war-torn country and counter the foreign agenda militias are believed to promote.

Houthis fingered for human rights violations
Of course. The winners always get to decide what is a war crime and what isn't
Aden, Taiz- The National Committee to investigate allegations of human rights’ violations in Yemen announced that it had monitored 7,818 cases during the period from September 2016 until June 2017.

In its third report, which was released on Tuesday in the temporary capital of Aden, the committee said that it has completed its investigation into 4,101 allegation cases, including 2,082 civilian deaths and 2,019 civilian casualties.

The committee said that it has monitored, during the same period, 176 cases of child recruitment and 362 cases of individual mine-laying, which resulted in the death of 138 people and the injury of 224 others.

It has also monitored 10 cases of alleged assault and damage to cultural and historical objects and property, 16 cases of alleged attacks on medical staff and health installations and 732 cases of forced displacement.

The report also revealed the results of the investigations carried out by the Commission related to international law during the past period. There were 693 cases of illegal prosecutions, 1,037 cases of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances, 386 cases of torture, 384 cases of house bombings.

National Committee’s Head Qaher Mustafa stressed that the report was meant to explain the major steps taken by the committee during its monitoring and investigation based on legal references and provide a full explanation of the results of the investigations and the causes of those violations.

Mustafa pointed out that security and political challenges and the continuation of the war have motivated the committee to investigate as much as possible in the allegations of human rights’ violations.

He called on international organizations, the non-governmental organizations and the local civil society to take a look at the report and provide the committee with an appropriate vision at the aim of improvement to reduce violations and promote human rights.

For her part, member of the National Committee Judge Sabah al-Alwani said that the total cases that have been monitored, documented and saved in the database since the beginning of the Committee’s work until the date of the report “amounted to 17,123 cases distributed among 20 types of violations, and the Commission has completed the investigation with 10,000 cases and 594 were monitored, and it was briefed by 16,191 victims and witnesses”.

Lebanon scraps controversial rape law after campaign
[Al Jazeera] Leb's parliament on Wednesday abolished a law that allowed rapists to avoid prison by marrying their victims.

A proposal to repeal Article 522 of the penal code - which deals with rape, assault, kidnapping and forced marriage - was introduced last year and approved by a parliamentary committee in February.

The repeal of the law, which had been in place since the 1940s, follows years of campaigning by women's rights advocates.

Activists have campaigned against the country's law for more than a year, posting billboards of women in bloodied and torn wedding gowns.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel revokes credentials of Al Jazeera reporter
[IsraelTimes] Government Press Office cites an interview in which Elias Karram said ’media work is an integral part of the resistance’

The Government Press Office revoked the credentials of an Al Jazeera news hound Wednesday for allegedly being an "active partner in Paleostinian resistance" amid Israeli efforts to boot the network from the country.

The GPO said the decision to strip Jerusalem correspondent Elias Karram of his press card came after it was alerted this week to a 2016 interview in which the Arab Israeli news hound said "media work is an integral part of the resistance."

"As a Paleostinian journalist in an occupied area or in a conflict zone, media work is an integral part of the resistance and its educational political activity," Karram said in the interview, according to a translation provided by the GPO. "The journalist fulfills his role in the opposition with the pen, voice or camera because he is part of this people and he carries out resistance in his unique way."

The GPO said that a hearing will be held for Karram to clarify his comments and how his role as a self-declared member of the "resistance" influences "his work as a journalist according to universal ethics."

"These remarks call into question the ability of Karram, the representative of a foreign network, to cover ‐ as a professional journalist ‐ the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict in which, according to his own words, he is taking an active part," the GPO said in a statement.

Al Jazeera declined to immediately comment on the move.

The Union of Journalists in Israel called the revocation of Karrem’s press card "intolerable."

"The planned move by the Government Press Office, which does not at all claim incitement or harm to the state’s security, is not only an attack on Elias Karrem but an attack on the principles of freedom of expression and freedom of press and the ability of news hounds to faithfully serve the public."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that he wants to expel the Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
i broadcaster from the country, accusing it of inciting violence.

Netanyahu made the comments as tensions soared over metal detectors Israel installed at entrances to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem following a terror attack outside the compound last month, in which three Arab Israelis rubbed out two coppers using weapons smuggled into the al-Aqsa Mosque.

At the time, Al Jazeera condemned what it called "arbitrary accusations and hostile statements."

It added the network would "take all necessary legal measures in case they act on their threat," saying its coverage was professional and objective.

On August 6, Communications Minister Ayoob Kara followed up on Netanyahu’s comments by saying he would take steps to close Al Jazeera’s offices in Israel. He accused the broadcaster of "inciting violence which has provoked losses among the best of our sons," referring to the July 14 attack.

The GPO’s move to revoke the press card for Karram marks the first concrete action against the broadcaster since Netanyahu’s remarks. The GPO statement on Wednesday said Kara recently requested that "the press cards of Al Jazeera personnel in Israel be revoked on the grounds that the network was inciting and agitating to violence in a way that harmed the security of the state."

Amnesia Amnesty International has said Israel’s move against the broadcaster is a "brazen attack on media freedom."

India-Pakistan
US blacklists Kashmir's Hizbul Mujahideen as 'terrorist' group
[DAWN] The United States added the Kashmiri separatist group Hizbul Mujahideen to its blacklist of terrorist organizations on Wednesday, amidst renewed protests against Indian oppression in the region.

US authorities had already designated the group's leader, Syed Salahuddin
...the aging, morbidly obese chief of Hizbul Mujaheddin and the titular head of the United Jihad Council in idyllic Kashmire. Originally owned body and theoretical soul by Jamaat-e-Islami, he and his organization are currently controlled by Pakistain's ISI. Salahuddin's hobbies include crocheting doilies shaped like the Taj Mahal, combing his enormous beard, and eating....
, a "global terrorist", but he is still able to operate in Kashmire, where his group has strong support.

The State Department designation bans US citizens and residents from dealing with the group and any assets found to belong to the Hizbul Mujahideen in areas under US jurisdiction will be frozen.

"Today's action notifies the US public and the international community that Hizbul Mujahideen is a terrorist organization," the department said.
Ynet adds:
Hizbul Mujahideen is the largest of the anti-Indian Kashmiri militant groups engaged in conflict in the divided Himalayan territory between Pakistan and India.

Officer arrested for influencing investigation of 'honour killing' case
[DAWN] A division bench of the Sindh High Court's Hyderabad circuit on Wednesday ordered the arrest of an Investigating Officer (IO) for receiving a bribe in a case of 'honour killing' in Badin.

The court handed the custody of the officer to the anti-corruption establishment and ordered a case to be registered against him. It also ordered departmental action against the inspector and a sub-inspector of police for criminal negligence in the case.

The petitioner, Atta Mohammad Leghari, requested the formation of a joint investigating team (JIT) to probe the murder of his son, Abbas Leghari, and Heer, the girl Abbas wanted to marry, since the investigation in the case had been compromised because of the actions of the investigating officers.

Regarding the case, Atta said that the couple had decided to marry against the will of Heer's family but were murdered before it could be solemnised.

Heer’s brother, Nawab Ali Leghari, had lodged a first information report (FIR) against deceased Abbas’ brother, Mohib Leghari, for killing the couple.

Atta had then filed an application before a Badin sessions judge under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedures Code, seeking the registration of an FIR, which was lodged on July 17.

The investigation of the two FIRs was entrusted to Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Tandojam Aleem Lashari on July 19 under directives of the deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, Hyderabad. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
the investigation of both cases was later transferred to Inspector Jiandal Shah on July 21 under another order of the DIG, the petitioner said.

The petitioner alleged that Shah kept demanding a bribe from him to clear his son in the FIR 80/17 -- filed by the girl's brother -- and to report on FIR 91/17 -- filed by the petitioner -- properly. Atta said that he paid Rs85,000 to Shah and that the inspector had also demanded a bribe from the accused nominated by him.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
a judicial magistrate (JM) in Matli had directed Shah to submit a final report for both cases, Atta Mohammad said. A final report was subsequently filed on Aug 5, with the accused in both cases being deemed 'untraceable' despite five men being nominated by Atta, the petitioner's counsel said.

The court on Wednesday directed SSP Hyderabad to personally investigate the matter and submit a report before the court. Ordering the action to be completed within one month, the court also ruled that any order passed by JM-I in the case shall not be binding upon SSP Hyderabad, who shall conduct his investigation without being influenced by the order.

DIG Police Hyderabad range was also directed to proceed against inspector Jiandal Shah and sub-inspector Mehboob Alam Pahore -- who had submitted an interim challan
... list of charges ...
regarding FIR 80/17 -- for criminal negligence, fix responsibility and take departmental action against them.

It also ordered the inquiry proceedings of both cases to be shifted to JM-II, since the petitioner had expressed reservations over JM-I hearing the case.

Adjourning the case for four weeks, the court issued notice to Nawab Ali Leghari, the complainant of FIR 80/17, to appear before the court.

Caribbean-Latin America
At least 37 die in jail riot in southern Venezuela
[NEWSINFO.INQUIRER.NET] At least 37 people died in an hours-long jail riot in Venezuela’s southern state of Amazonas, officials said Wednesday.

The prosecutors’ office said an investigation had been launched into "the deaths of 37 people" in the facility in the town of Puerto Ayacucho.

Governor Liborio Guarulla had earlier tweeted that a "massacre" took place with at least 35 corpses counted.

Prosecutors said 14 officials were maimed in the violence which ran from Tuesday into early Wednesday, but did not say if any were among the dead.

Two prison-monitoring groups, A Window to Freedom and the Venezuelan Prisons Observatory, said the 37 killed were all inmates.

"This is the worst riot we’ve had in a preventative detention facility," Carlos Nieto of A Window to Freedom told AFP.

"In this one, detainees are only supposed to be held for up to 48 hours, but there were prisoners who have been there for years," he said.

#1  How many died of starvation?
Posted by: AlanC || 08/17/2017 16:19 Comments || Top||

#2  More telling, how did the riots start? By the prisoners or by 'security personnel'?

I suspect this was a way to eliminate political prisoners using 'riots' as an excuse so they would not have to be released back to general population.

A couple weasel wording to note: "the deaths of 37 people" and "a "massacre" took place".

Makes me suspicious.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

ISIS detains 20 families in Anbar

Qaim (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants arrested 20 families who were fleeing a group haven in western Anbar, a security source was quoted saying late Tuesday.

The families were fleeing Islamic State’s stronghold city of Qaim, on the borders with Syria, but were captured before reaching the city of Rutba, Alghad Press quoted the source saying.

Since they took over a third of Iraq in 2014, Islamic State militants have executed civilians fleeing the group’s holdouts and used them as human shields, according to government agencies, local and international aid groups.

Islamic State militants have held the towns of Anah, Rawa and Qaim since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives managed to take over several surrounding villages.

The Iraqi government declared victory over Islamic State in Mosul, the group’s former capital in Iraq, in July, and said it was going to proceed towards other group holdouts, including Anbar.

Also late July, Iraqi warplanes reportedly dropped millions of messages telling locals that liberation offensives for the province were nearing, and telling them to stay away from militants’ deployments.

2 ISIS officials die trying to get the hellout of Dodge

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi forces killed Islamic State’s new mayor of Tal Afar town and the group’s area police chief on Wednesday while fleeing the enclave, a security source said.

Iraqi state run agency NINA quoted the source saying that army troops shot dead the so-designated mayor, Abu Fatema al-Jaafari, and the police chief, Zahed Khedr, along with six other companions while sneaking outside Tal Afar for an attack on the forces.

The agency also said the group executed 20 members late Tuesday for attempting to flee the town, and had formed special patrols to capture and execute runaway militants.
