This is how it could go down if China and India went to war
[Bus Insider] A war between the world’s largest Democracy and the world’s largest Communist state may not seem likely to the casual observer. But not only is it possible, it’s happened before. Only things were very different back then.

China was facing an economic collapse in the early 1960s in the years following the Great Leap Forward. The country was struggling to feed its people, let alone support an all-out war.

India, on the other hand, was on an economic upturn. Militarily, however, India was unprepared and could only field 14,000 troops, compared to China’s exhaustive manpower.

In 1962, Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong invaded India for granting asylum to the Dalai Lama and not supporting the Chinese occupation of Tibet (Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was an outspoken critic of the occupation). The Chinese won the harsh mountain war, fought without Navies or Air Forces, at 14,000 feet.

Mao later told Sri Lankan and Swedish delegations the war was essentially to teach India a lesson.

15 Sidi Al Kamel lads Forced To Get Rabies Shots As Police Order Their ‘Pleasure Donkey' Be Killed
[Conservative Daily Post] There is plenty of evidence that Muslims from third-world countries can’t function in Western society. Even if all the terror activities are not considered, the lack of hygiene and oppressive society just isn’t compatible with civilization. In the latest example of Islamic depravity, at least 15 teens in Morocco, and most likely more, are being treated for rabies after gang raping an infected donkey.

Islamic culture is totally foreign to the basic morals and activities of educated nations. Their entire perception of right and wrong is horrifically alien to anyone raised in a developed country. Muslim terrorists brutally slaughter hundreds of people each year who they think are "infidels," and their barbaric fundamental beliefs are completely opposite to every normal behavior in a civilized society.

Local authorities are desperately pleading with anyone who "admired" the animal to report to a health facility for rabies treatment. It is thought that the numbers are higher than the original 15 because many parents took their sons outside the immediate area to avoid ridicule.

HSI El Paso special agents discover 23 illegal aliens, 250 pounds of marijuana
[ICE] EL PASO, Texas -- The driver of a tractor-trailer carrying 23 illegal aliens, and a passenger, were arrested on criminal charges Wednesday on eastbound Interstate Highway 10 near the city limits by special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

The HSI special agents are assigned to the El Paso Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST), which includes U.S. Border Patrol agents.

BEST agents found 18 adult males and two unaccompanied juvenile males in the trailer, and two adult women and an adult male in the sleeper cabin. Three of the illegal aliens were from Guatemala, and 20 were from Mexico. The illegal aliens are in federal custody pending disposition of their immigration cases.

Agents also found 116 kilograms (about 256 pounds) of marijuana in the sleeper cabin.

The driver, Comothial Harper, 44, a U.S. citizen from Bainbridge, Georgia, was arrested and charged with transporting illegal aliens for financial gain. Gerardo Aguilar-Roque, 35, one of the passengers, was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.

According to court documents, BEST agents found the men and juveniles hiding behind commercial boxes inside the back of the trailer. Everyone appeared to be in good health, even though there was no ventilation inside the trailer.

Noam Chomsky: Antifa is a 'major gift to the Right'
h/t instapundit
The left-wing "Antifa" movement is rising in prominence after clashing with white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va., but one progressive scholar says the anti-fascists feed the fire they seek to extinguish.

"As for Antifa, it's a minuscule fringe of the Left, just as its predecessors were," Noam Chomsky told the Washington Examiner. "It's a major gift to the Right, including the militant Right, who are exuberant."

Silicon Valley Billionaires Are the New Robber Barons
h/t Instapundit
Progressives used to pressure U.S. corporations to cut back on outsourcing and on the tactic of building their products abroad to take advantage of inexpensive foreign workers.

During the 2012 election, President Obama attacked Mitt Romney as a potential illiberal "outsourcer-in-chief" for investing in companies that went overseas in search of cheap labor.

Yet most of the computers and smartphones sold by Silicon Valley companies are still being built abroad -- to mostly silence from progressive watchdogs.

In the case of the cobalt mining that is necessary for the production of lithium-ion batteries in electric cars, thousands of child laborers in southern Africa are worked to exhaustion.

In the 1960s, campuses boycotted grapes to support Cesar Chavez’s unionization of farm workers.

Yet it is unlikely that there will be any effort to boycott tech companies that use lithium-ion batteries produced from African-mined cobalt.

Progressives demand higher taxes on the wealthy. They traditionally argue that tax gimmicks and loopholes are threats to the republic.

Yet few seem to care that West Coast conglomerates such as Amazon, Apple, Google, and Starbucks filtered hundreds of billions in global profits through tax havens such as Bermuda, shorting the United States billions of dollars in income taxes.

The progressive movement took hold in the late 19th century to "trust-bust," or break up corporations that had cornered the markets in banking, oil, steel, and railroads.

Such supposedly foul play had inordinately enriched "robber baron" buccaneers such as John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Mellon, Andrew Carnegie, and J. P. Morgan. Yet today, the riches of multibillionaires dwarf the wealth of their 19th-century predecessors.

Most West Coast corporate wealth was accumulated by good old-fashioned American efforts to achieve monopolies and stifle competition.

Facebook, with 2 billion monthly global users, has now effectively cornered social media.

Google has monopolized internet searches -- and modulates users’ search results to accommodate its own business profiteering.

Amazon is America’s new octopus. Its growing tentacles incorporate not just online sales but also media and food retailing.

Yet there are no modern-day progressive muckrakers in the spirit of Upton Sinclair, Frank Norris, and Lincoln Steffens, warning of the dangers of techie monopolies or the astronomical accumulation of wealth. Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and Facebook are worth nearly $1 trillion each.

...On matters such as avoiding unionization, driving up housing prices, snagging crony-capitalist subsidies from the government, and ignoring the effects of products on public safety (such as texting while driving), Silicon Valley is about as reactionary as they come.

Why, then, do these companies earn a pass from hypercritical progressives?

Answer: Their executives have taken out postmodern insurance policies.

Our new J. P. Morgans dress in jeans and T-shirts -- like the late Steve Jobs of Apple or Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook -- appearing hip and cool.

Executives in flip-flops and tie-dyes can get away with building walls around their multiple mansions in a way that a steel executive in a suit and tie might not.

The new elite are overwhelmingly left-wing. They head off criticism by investing mostly in the Democratic party, the traditional font of social and political criticism of corporate wealth.

In 2012, for example, Obama won Silicon Valley by more than 40 percentage points. Of the political donations to presidential candidates that year from employees at Google and Apple, over 90 percent went to Obama.

One of the legacies of the Obama era was the triumph of green advocacy and identity politics over class.

No one has grasped that reality better that the new billionaire barons of the West Coast. As long as they appeared cool, as they long as they gave lavishly to left-wing candidates, and as long as they mouthed liberal platitudes on global warming, gay marriage, abortion, and identity politics, they earned exemption from progressive scorn.

The result was that they outsourced, offshored, monopolized, censored, and made billions -- without much fear of media muckraking, trust-busting politicians, unionizing activists, or diversity lawsuits. Hip billionaire corporatism is one of the strangest progressive hypocrisies of our times.

Hero policewoman kills FOUR jihadists wearing fake suicide vests made from Coke cans
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] A hero policewoman surrounded by drugged-up jihadis wearing 'Coke can' boom jackets killed four out of five of them herself and saved an injured colleague, it was revealed today.

The Death Eaters carrying knives and an axe bailed out of their overturned Audi A3 used to plough into crowds on the seafront in Cambrils on the Costa Dorada at 1am today, killing a woman, 61, from Zaragoza, and injuring six others.

Two coppers were on a routine foot patrol when one was hit by the car and within seconds her partner pulled out a handgun and killed four of them as they charged her.

The fifth terrorist ran into a park and was bumped off minutes later by a policeman - but clambered to his feet with a smile on his face and ran at armed officers who eventually needed 15 bullets to kill him.

Today Catalan police chief Josep Luis Trapero confirmed a single officer, who was meant to be on holiday this week, killed four of the Death Eaters and said: 'To kill four people, even if you are a professional, is not easy to digest', adding the officer was now receiving psychological support.

Eight hours earlier a 'linked' ISIS van assault on the packed Los Ramblas boulevard in Barcelona killed 13 including a three-year-old girl and injured at least 100 victims from 34 different countries.

Fitzroy Davies, from Wolverhampton, described how officers bumped off one of the Cambrils jihadis and filmed the moment he rose to his feet in a scene he compared to a 'horror film'.

He said: 'He must have been on drugs. He took the first round of shots he fell on the floor, and then within two seconds, I thought I was watching a film, one of them horror films, the guy just stood up. He was taunting, smiling, laughing and he carried on walking to the police, and then they gave it to him again, a couple more shots and then he fell to the ground'.

He said that his suicide belt 'looked fake', adding: 'It looked like he was wearing Coke cans on him'.

ISIS has been feeding its fighters cheap super-amphetamine pills called Captagon, used to induce euphoria and increase adrenaline during their murderous missions.

Israeli, Czech special forces complete joint urban-warfare exercise
[Jpost] A joint, two-week-long military exercise between Israeli and Czech special forces in the Negev Desert came to a close on Tuesday.

The IDF’s elite Duvdevan unit and the Czech Armed Force’s 601st Special Forces Group participated in the drill. The exercise was held at Tze’elim Army Base and emphasized urban warfare, including techniques for breaking into structures.

Fighters also focused on improving their individual capabilities, shooting skills and sniping.

According to the IDF, the goal of the joint exercise was to study the skills and practices of each army.

Captain C, a platoon commander in Duvdevan, said the drill and the cooperation with the Czech special forces was a "meaningful and substantial" experience for the unit.

"The forces trained together in a built-up area in the Tze’elim area, with the goal of learning together," he said. "There is no doubt that this was a successful and meaningful drill for both sides."

While it is not the first time that Czech troops have trained in Israel with the IDF, according to Asst.-Cmdr. Sgt. Pavel Vanecek of the Czech army, "the mutual training with the Duvdevan unit was the first opportunity to share combat knowledge and experience in the urban environment with such an elite unit. This bilateral cooperation has been beneficial to both sides and demonstrates a cordial relationship between the countries."

Finland attack – ‘Several people injured after multiple knifemen rampage through city of Turku' amid reports of shots fired
Jihadi or nutter? No doubt it will be revealed, but the odds are it's a Muslim colonist either way.
[TheSun] THE centre of a Finnish city is on lockdown after six people, including a woman pushing a baby in a pram, were stabbed with a large knife.

Armed police scrambled to Turku as reports of a knife-wielding group rampaged through the city.

It is currently unclear if it was just one person with a knife or multiple attackers as there are mixed reports.

Bystanders said a number of people were stabbed in Market Square before one person was arrested by Finnish police.

One man and five women - one pushing a baby in a pram - were injured in the attack.

It is not clear if this is the same person who is said to have been shot in the leg by police as bystanders say they heard gunshots.

South-West Finland police said on Twitter: "Several people stabbed in central Turku. People are requested to avoid the city centre."

A few minutes later cops tweeted a suspect had been shot in the leg and taken into custody.

More to follow.

Leading elephant conservationist shot dead in Tanzania
[Guardian] The head of an animal conservation NGO who had received numerous death threats has been shot and killed by an unknown gunman in Tanzania.

Wayne Lotter, 51, was shot on Wednesday evening in the Masaki district of the city of Dar es Salaam. The wildlife conservationist was being driven from the airport to his hotel when his taxi was stopped by another vehicle. Two men, one armed with a gun opened his car door and shot him.

Lotter was a director and co-founder of the PAMS Foundation, an NGO that provides conservation and anti-poaching support to communities and governments in Africa. Since starting the organisation in Tanzania in 2009, he had received numerous death threats relating to his work.

Economy
The Market Doesn't Like What It's Seeing in the White House
[Fiscal Times] After corporate CEOs abandoned President Donald Trump, markets are worried Trump's key advisors and Cabinet members will be the next to leave him, threatening his economic agenda.

But political strategists doubt the key financial advisors like Gary Cohn, director of the National Economic Council or Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are close to resigning. The two former Wall Street executives have high credibility in the markets and are viewed as key drivers of the Trump economic agenda, particularly tax reform.

"For the first time, people are now questioning if he can get anything done policy-wise. His agenda is under threat," said Peter Boockvar, chief market analyst at The Lindsey Group.

Stocks slumped Thursday morning as rumors circulated that Cohn was leaving the White House. They recovered slightly after it was denied by the White House, but selling again accelerated and the Dow closed off 274 points at 21,750, its worst day in three months.

Of dog-whistles & duck calls
[DavidWarrenOnline] "Gawd I hate white people."

This did not come from the mouth of a BLM, or an SJW, or other DMI (my abbreviation for, "drooling malicious idjit"); rather, from that of an ageing white male.

I knew exactly what he meant. We had been discussing the SFs among the overmonied and underbrained in one of this city’s more prosperous neighbourhoods. Virtue signallers, the lot of them: unctuous and asinine to a fault. It’s true, we’re both prejudiced against these constipated caucasoids. And better yet, it costs us nothing. For we aren’t invited to their parties, anyway.

On the other hand, one is in a poor opening position when one must argue that one is not a neo-Nazi or a white supremacist. I dislike poor opening positions, so am inclined to omit them. Having been called everything in my time, even "a gentleman and a scholar" (exceptionally low blow), I happily admit to being a fascist, a leper, a racist, and a rightwing troll. I take particular pride in "Jew-lover," for in that case the description fits. (Twice I’ve been called that over a ’phone; and once, in the course of a single "debate," both an anti-Semite and a Jew-lover.) I am also every kind of phobe, and hater, including self-hater; a misogynist and misandrist, and a misandronist, to be perfectly inclusive (it’s like the difference between a racist and a racialist); people with slant eyes and people with round ones. And beyond the more pressing individual cases, I like to cultivate a general misanthropy in my spare time.

White Nationalists Take DNA Tests to Prove Their Racial Purity. The Results Are HILARIOUS
h/t Instapundit
While I've written about my dislike of Antifa, there's another group I despise just as much: white nationalists. The idea that somehow anyone is born with more worth than another because of skin color is ridiculous -- though it does bear mentioning that this attitude isn't exclusive to white nationalists. I can't stand those other groups, either.

Yet to them, being white is almost magical. So it's not surprising that many of them are using genetic testing to prove just how white they are. Unfortunately for them, they're not as white as they think

Ending Down Syndrome‐The Nazi Way?
[Townhall] About a year and a half ago I was at an all-day event with friends that consisted of a lot of sitting around in lawn chairs, chatting, and eating too much food.

Since we were a group of my friends and their social acquaintances, it’s not surprising that eventually the conversation came around to a potentially divisive topic.

Someone brought up his recent trip to Northern Europe and how he thought it was (I’m paraphrasing) "so amazing that you never saw anyone there with a disability. They must be doing something right!"

This of course started a discussion on how Europeans haven’t somehow magically ended the occurrence of disabilities in the next generation, they’ve ended their births.

They’re aborting them. "Terminating their pregnancies," as they like to call it.

And they’re doing it because a test showed that those children weren’t quite "perfect." (A test that can be wrong, by the way.)

More simply put, they’re murdering their children.

Now, I know many people disagree that abortion is murder. I know, I know, the laws of those countries don’t call it murder. But the Bible calls intentionally killing a human being in any circumstance other than self-defense, capital punishment, and just warfare murder.

And I’ll take the Bible’s authority over that of any nation’s laws. After all, German law made killing Jews in concentration camps legal during Nazi rule.

And as someone participating in this discussion pointed out, those Europeans who are aborting all those Down syndrome babies "are completing the work of the Nazis."

How true.

Court Rules Arkansas Can Defund Planned Parenthood
[Townhall] A U.S. appeals court reversed a ruling Wednesday that prohibited Arkansas from ending Medicaid reimbursements to Planned Parenthood.

Pro-life lawmakers in the state moved to defund the abortion giant after a series of Center for Medical Progress videos exposed Planned Parenthood selling aborted baby body parts.

Three women--all Planned Parenthood patients--challenged the decision, arguing that the state violated their rights under the federal Medicaid law to choose any qualified healthcare provider that offered the services they were looking for. U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker in Little Rock ruled in their favor, thus blocking the ruling.

The state appealed and by a 2-1 vote, the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals rescinded that decision Wednesday.

Taxpayer-Funded College Professor: Correcting Ebonics Is RACIST Now
[Daily Caller] A taxpayer-funded professor of medieval literature at the City University of New York has announced that the use of standard grammatical English is wrongly privileged. Also, preferring standard English over other vernaculars is racist.

The professor, A.W. Strouse, wrote an op-ed about his concerns last week. The piece, titled "Why We Need Greater Linguistic Diversity," appeared at Inside Higher Education.

In his op-ed, Strouse objects to "linguistic monoculture," "for aesthetic reasons," and because he believes professors "need to vary our ways of speaking in order to avoid the precanned insights and stale platitudes that deaden thought."

He cites another professor who praises the "the African-American vernacular" for its direct style of "’cussin’ out’ and ’reading people,’ as well as ’getting real’ and ’trash talk.'"

Trying to help students change their speech patterns is bad, Strouse says.

Something Trump can do with his pen to heal the nation
[American Thinker] President Trump can rename the aircraft carrier USS John Stennis, which honors a 20th-century racist. He was a mere politician who never served in the armed forces.
Stennis was a zealous supporter of racial segregation. He signed the Southern Manifesto, which called for resistance to the Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. He also voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Civil Rights Act of 1968.
Name it after a genuine Navy hero whose name ought to be a household term: Robert Smalls.

Robert Smalls was born into slavery. He worked as a pilot in the harbor at Charleston when the Civil War started. Smalls was assigned to steer the CSS Planter, an armed Confederate military transport. He stole the boat while the boat's officers were asleep, and then he successfully sailed past Confederate forts that guarded the port. Later, Smalls was sent to see President Lincoln by the Union commander at Port Royal who was impressed with his skills. Smalls was given command of his old vessel, making him the first black naval captain of the war. As a slave he had planted mines, and he was now working to destroy railroad bridges.

Defying an age of hatred, Ben Carson sets an example for America
[The Hill] The American Civil War is an enduring one. Though formal hostilities ended on May 9, 1865, the divisions and strains that were both caused and produced by the internecine conflict have continued. The shocking resurgence of hate groups across America reminds us that old wounds can still cause fresh pain.

On the surface, it is easy to condemn the forces of hatred and bigotry that we see displayed at some of these rallies. It shocks the conscience to believe that deep into the second decade of the 21st century, an armed group bearing the battle flags of two sworn enemies of the United States (the Confederacy and the Nazis) would march through the streets of our cities spewing vile threats against their own countrymen. It seems incredulous that we need to remind ourselves how dearly a price in blood and treasure we paid to rid ourselves of the scourges of slavery and the encroaching horror Nazi atrocities.

While all Americans enjoy the constitutional right to speak freely and to bear arms, what is permissible is not always prudent. The confrontational nature of these rallies is designed to provoke and intimidate others. African Americans and Jews seemed to be the intended targets in Charlottesville, perhaps especially because the city is home to a large number of blacks, and its mayor, who happens to be Jewish, has endorsed a city plan to remove Confederate statues.

This hit home to me recently when I found out that my friends, Dr. Ben and Candy Carson, had their Virginia home vandalized with anti-Trump and racially derogatory messages. Dr. Carson, who is a man of uncommon grace, was reluctant to talk publicly about the incident. But when I heard about it I was driven to fuming and frustration. It seemed like a declaration of war by his political enemies. As their friend, I wanted to lash out to protect them both.

Taliban attacks kop checkpoint

At least 18 policemen were killed in separate Taliban insurgents attack on Wednesday in southern Zabul province, security sources confirmed on Thursday.

A security source told TOLOnews that Taliban insurgents attacked a police check post on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Zabul on Wednesday night in which eight policemen were killed and five others were wounded.

“The check post of the security forces was destroyed and the insurgents also stole some weapons,” according to the source.

The source said that the Taliban have also suffered casualties but gave no details.

Another security source said that Taliban insurgents attacked a border police check post in Shamlezai district of the province close to the Durand Line, killing 10 policemen. Two other border policemen were taken captive.

However, the officials have not yet commented over the attack.

At least three children were killed in a missile attack in southern Zabul province on Wednesday night, local officials confirmed on Thursday.

The incident took place at about 12:00pm local time after seven missiles landed in different parts of the city, according to officials.

In the meantime, officials at Zabul hospital have also confirmed that the “bodies of three children were brought to the hospital after they were killed in the rocket attack.”

However, no group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Belgium orders trial for terror suspect Abdeslam over shootout
[AlAhram] Belgium on Thursday ordered Gay Paree terror suspect Salah Abdeslam to stand trial over a shootout in Brussels last year with Belgian and French coppers who had been tracking Europe's most wanted man for four months.

Abdeslam, the sole surviving alleged assailant in the November 2015 Gay Paree massacre, was tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
three days after the shootout on March 15 last year in which several officers were maimed.

Judges on Thursday ordered Abdeslam, 27, and his alleged accomplice Sofiane Ayari, 24, to stand trial in Brussels criminal court, the federal prosecutor's office said.

The two will be tried for "attempted murder on several coppers in a terrorist context" and "carrying banned weapons in a terrorist context," the office said in a statement.

A trial date will be set in the next few weeks, it added.

A French woman police officer and Belgian colleagues were maimed at the Forest neighbourhood apartment in which an Algerian Islamist suspect was killed. Abdeslam and Ayari fled.

After finding Abdeslam's fingerprints in the apartment, they arrested him and Ayari during a raid on March 18, 2016 in the gritty Brussels immigrant neighbourhood of Molenbeek, shooting Abdeslam in the leg.

Investigators suspect that Abdeslam's arrest precipitated the attacks in Brussels four days later by jacket wallahs linked to him as they feared they, too, would be captured before they could carry out their plot.

French and Belgian police believe the same cell plotted the Gay Paree bombing and gun attacks, which left 130 people dead, and the Brussels suicide kabooms, which cost the lives of 32 people at Zaventem airport and Malbeek metro station.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group grabbed credit for both sets of attacks.

Abdeslam was transferred to La Belle France from Belgium in April last year and is likely to face trial there over his alleged role in the Gay Paree attacks.

Abdeslam was neither present nor represented by a lawyer during Thursday's court proceedings, while Ayari, who is being held in Belgium, was represented by his lawyer Laura Severin, she told AFP.

Severin said Ayari, who is of Tunisian origin and is implicated in the Gay Paree attacks, admits being present in Forest on the day of the shootout and "at this point does not contest the charges."

French sources say Abdeslam, a Belgian-born French national, has remain tightlipped during police interrogation in La Belle France.

Abdeslam's exact role in the worst terror attack in French history remains unclear. Prosecutors believe he was in charge of logistics for the attacks, which were planned in Brussels.

He drove the three suicide bombers who blew themselves up outside the Stade de La Belle France to the stadium and then roamed the city before fleeing to Belgium early the next day.

He told Sherlocks in Belgium before his transfer that he had also wanted to blow himself up at the Stade de La Belle France but had changed his mind.

His former Belgian lawyer Sven Mary told a Dutch newspaper that Abdeslam had become even more radicalised since his arrest, saying he had grown a beard and become a "true fundamentalist".

Abdeslam's brother Brahim went kaboom! in a Gay Paree cafe during the November attacks.

Salah Abdeslam is a childhood friend of Mohammed Abrini, who did not set off his suitcase bomb at Zaventem airport with the other two suicide bombers and was captured days later.

Abrini and Abdeslam were filmed at a service station en route to Gay Paree just before the 2015 attacks there. Abrini has since been charged over the Gay Paree massacre.

Belgian media said Abdeslam's and Ayari's trial could open as early as September.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria rebels lose key ally with collapse of Islamist faction
[IsraelTimes] Syria’s opposition loses one of its most powerful factions with the collapse of Islamist heavyweight Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
, which once walked a fine line between jihadists and more mainstream rebels.

The group has been decimated by deadly fighting, with a former al-Qaeda affiliate emerging the winner in the only Syrian province entirely beyond regime control.

Clashes between the former allies broke out in mid-July when Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) attacked Ahrar positions across the northwestern province of Idlib.

By the time a ceasefire deal was reached and the guns fell silent, Ahrar had been devastated.

The group was expelled from Idlib city, the lucrative Bab al-Hawa border crossing with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and surrounding territory near the frontier including checkpoints and key roads.

Without revenues from commercial products taxed at Bab al-Hawa, Ahrar’s financial resources will likely be slashed.

Its legitimacy as a governing force may also take a hit with HTS’s takeover of institutions like religious courts.

Dalit woman’s nose ‘cut’, husband beaten up in Madhya Pradesh village
[Indian Express] A 35-year-old Dalit woman’s nose was allegedly slashed and her husband was beaten up by two members of an upper caste family at Renvjha village in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. Narendra Singh (32) and his father Sahab Singh beat up the woman’s husband on Monday when he refused to go to their house and do some work, inspector R S Bagri of Surkhi cop shoppe said.

When the woman was taking her husband to a hospital, Narendra and Sahab attacked her too, the police officer said. Madhya Pradesh Women’s Commission (MPWC) chairperson Lata Wankhede claimed that the woman’s nose was cut.

Inspector Bagri said that she had sustained an injury to the nose, and police were waiting for the medical report.

The incident came to light on Wednesday when the woman went to a camp organised by the MPWC in the area to hear complaints of violation of women’s rights, and narrated her ordeal to Wankhede.

The MPWC chief told news hounds that the accused, who wanted to make the woman and her husband "bonded labourers", had cut the woman’s nose.

She had directed the police to arrest the accused and take strict action in the case, Wankhede said.

Bagri said the police started the paperwork but haven't done much else under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC and also under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and were looking for the accused who were absconding.

"The woman is being treated at a hospital. We are waiting for doctor’s report about the injury to her nose. If the report confirms serious injury to nose and internal injuries, harsher sections will be slapped against the accused," the inspector said.

While the danger of alliance with Russia is adoption of her brutality, the danger of alliance with India is adoption of her caste system. Both are gawdawful. Both alliances are necessary, but there are the anti-American dangers inside those particular alliances, clearly stated.

In my reading of it, part of the dynamic in the Damore firing at Google is an Indian doing ethnic cleansing of Americans to make way for Indian H1B holders. Economics and other factors in there as well. But the ethnic cleansing/race/caste factor is there, for real.

Indians and Chinese, sort of a toss up as to which is more racist, but little toss up as to which is more caste-controlled. Indians, hands down. That is a danger signal for USA, domestically and foreignly.

With Marawi fighting still on, Duterte wants rehab rushed
[NEWSINFO.INQUIRER.NET] With the fighting in Marawi City expected to be over soon, President Duterte has directed government agencies preparing the rehabilitation plans for the war-ravaged city to pick up the pace to ensure these would be ready for implementation.

Malacañang said Mr. Duterte met with the officials of the concerned agencies in Malacañang on Wednesday and sought the completion of the plans. He also stressed the need for the continuous provision of basic needs such as food and clean water to the affected families.

The agencies represented were the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of National Defense, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, National Housing Authority (NHA), Local Water Utilities Administration and Home Development Mutual Fund.

Mr. Duterte told the officials that once the fighting between government forces and pro-Islamic State (IS) extremists was over, the recovery efforts for Marawi would be a purely “civilian endeavor,” according to a Malacañang statement.

He also assured them that he would seek the realignment of the budget to provide for the needs of each department in relation to the rebuilding of Marawi.

Libya repatriates 135 Nigerian migrants
[AlAhram] Libyan authorities on Thursday repatriated 135 Nigerian migrants colonists, including women and kiddies, who had made failed attempt
Curses! Foiled again!
s to cross the Mediterranean to Europe, an official said.

"We are organising... the voluntary repatriation of 135 clandestine Nigerian migrants colonists who were rescued offshore by the coastguard," said Hosni Abu Ayanah of the Libyan government agency tackling illegal migration.

The first group of 75 men and 10 women gathered Thursday in downtown Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
to board buses with metal grills towards the capital's Mitiga airport.

Others were set to depart from other migrant detention centres.

The Libyan authorities have coordinated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to run special flights to repatriate migrants colonists, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa.

Ever since the rule of longtime dictator Moamer Qadaffy, thousands of people have crossed Libya's 5,000-kilometre (3,000-mile) southern border to make perilous bids to reach Europe in often unseaworthy boats.

Following the 2011 NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
-backed revolt that toppled and killed Qadaffy, people traffickers have exploited the chaos rocking Libya to transport ever more migrants colonists towards Italia, 300 kilometres away.

Those who fail often end up stuck in Libya in dire conditions and opt to be repatriated.

North Korea to UN: Nuclear program non-negotiable
[Iran Press TV] North Korea has informed the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
that its nuclear program is not negotiable as long as the United States continues its "hostile policy and nuclear threat" toward Pyongyang.

The North’s Deputy UN Ambassador Kim In-ryong conveyed the message during a phone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the North Korean mission to the UN said in a statement on Thursday.

"As long as the US hostile policy and nuclear threat continue, the DPRK... will never place its self-defensive nuclear deterrence on the negotiation table or flinch an inch from the road chosen by itself, the road of bolstering up the state nuclear force," Kim told Guterres.

Alarmed by Washington and Pyongyang’s aggravating war of words over the latter’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs, Guterres (pictured below) said Wednesday that it was time to "dial down rhetoric and dial up diplomacy."

4 die in fighting in southeastern Ukraine

Four soldiers from the Ukrainian army and Russian backed rebel forces died in ongoing fighting in Donetsk, according to Russian language news accounts.

The Ukrainian news daily lb.ua said in a Wednesday report that rebel shelling in Avdievka, which is in the northern area of Donetsk city, killed one Ukrainian soldier and wounded one other.

Rebels shelled Staragnatovka using a variety of heavy weapons Wednesday night from 1800 hrs to midnight. The weapons included BMP-2 and tank main gun fire. One Ukrainian soldier was wounded.

The report went on to say that rebel shelling on Zaitsevo, which is just north of Gorlovka damaged an undisclosed number of residences. The report also said that observers with the International Committee of the Red Cross were present when rebels started their attack. The Ukrainians did not return fire.

No one was wounded in the attack.

The rebels have denied the attacks even took place, according to a statement released on the Donetsk ministry of defense web page.

Quoting Donetsk military official Lt. Colonel Eduard Basurin, military commanders were "extremely surprised" by the news of rebel artillery fire in Zaitsevo. The Ukrainian news release came from the Ukrainian 128th Separate Mountain Infantry Brigade.

The Ukrainians subsequently responded with a number of photographs detailing the destruction in Zaitsevo. Three residences were damaged in the attack, according to a separate report, which was on the website of lb.ua.

According to rebel media, a Russian news television crew came under Ukrainian fire in Holmovsky, which is apparently just adjacent to Gorlovka. No injuries were reported in the attack.

A separate rebel news release said that three Donetsk soldiers were killed in a Ukrainian artillery attack, but it did not elaborate where and under what circumstances.

Rebel media said that Ukrainian overnight artillery fire damaged three residential buildings in Spartak, which is near the Donetsk airport.

Another three residential buildings were damaged in Ukrainian overnight shelling on Dokuchaevsk, which is just south of Donetsk city.

Other rebel reports say that Ukrainian artillery hit several rebel held locales in southern Donetsk, near Mariupol.

Europe
The CIA recently warned Spain about an ISIS threat to Barcelona's La Rambla
[Washington Examiner] The Barcelona-based newspaper El Periodico reported Thursday that, in the last few months, the CIA warned Spanish authorities of Islamic State plots against Barcelona.

According to El Periodico, the CIA specifically notified Spanish authorities that ISIS might target La Rambla, the Barcelona street where an attacker used a van to murder numerous people Thursday.

While the CIA declined comment to the Washington Examiner, the report of a warning is credible.
So much for "inter-agency intelligence coordination" and the US State Department travel Alerts and Warnings System. A total of 46 countries listed on the Foggy Bottom site dating back to Feb 2016. No mention of Spain.
For a start, as I noted in my piece on the Barcelona attack, ISIS attack cells in Europe are highly skilled at evading detection. This is especially true in ISIS use of encrypted communication platforms and its compartmenting of operations cells (attackers) and logistics cells (those who provide the bombs, safe houses, etc.). These activities make it very difficult for ISIS to detect cells like those that carried out the November 2015 Paris attacks and the March 2016 Brussels attacks. Via its propaganda activities, ISIS is also adept at forcing counter-terrorism agencies to spread their monitoring resources across the spectrum of low-level losers and high-level plotters.

In the U.K., Belgium, France, Germany, and Spain, intelligence authorities have many suspects to consider and limited resources with which to do so. That makes the U.S. intelligence community absolutely instrumental to Europe's security. After all, the resources, capabilities, and breadth of the CIA and NSA's intelligence collection platforms are unequaled. This is especially true in the case of the NSA, which has unique ways of cracking encrypted communications. Hence, for example, the recent disruption of a major ISIS attack plot in Australia.

Trump says US culture 'ripped apart' by statue removals
He is right, yet again. So he'll be castigated for it in the strongest possible terms by the posturing pustules yet again.
[Al Jazeera] President Donald Trump said the history and culture of the United States were being "ripped apart" by the removal of statues memorialising the Confederate era.

"Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments," Trump wrote Thursday on Twitter.

"You can't change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson - who's next. Washington, Jefferson? So foolish!" Trump added.

Trump's latest tweets pile more fuel on a political firestorm ignited by the president's attempts to shift blame for the deadly violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, to anti-racism counter-protesters.

Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal (D-Mo) : ‘I Hope Trump Is Assassinated!'
[St. Louis Post Dispatch] With five written words Thursday morning, one of Missouri's most controversial state lawmakers spawned a U.S. Secret Service investigation, potentially endangered her own political career -- and flung St. Louis squarely into the middle of America's raging racial-political debate in the wake of the unrest in Charlottesville, Va.

"I hope Trump is assassinated!" Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, wrote during a morning Facebook exchange, referring to Republican President Donald Trump.

She quickly deleted her post, but not quickly enough. By mid-afternoon, the political verdicts of her own party were rolling in:

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.: "I condemn it. It's outrageous. And she should resign."

U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-St. Louis: "(C)alling for the assassination of the President is a federal crime. ... (She is) an embarrassment to our state. She should resign immediately."

Missouri Democratic Party Chair Stephen Webber: "The ... Party will absolutely not tolerate calls for the assassination of the President. I believe she should resign."

Missouri Senate Democratic Caucus leader Sen. Gina Walsh: "(She) should be ashamed of herself for adding her voice to this toxic environment."

The soldiers, from Gothenburg, will be stationed off the coast of Somalia as part of Sweden’s fifth mission to the region.

It is the second time Sweden’s part of the mission is carried out together with Dutch troops

"In the first place we are there to escort the World Food Programme’s aid deliveries with supplies to Somalia. But we also have the mandate to intervene and stop pirate attacks and armed robberies at sea," Major Thomas Olsson, head of the Swedish troops in Somalia, told the TT news agency.

8 ISIS Bad Guys die trying to booby trap a donkey in Kirkuk
So that's what they call bestiality these days...
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Eight Islamic State militants were killed and wounded when explosives they were fitting to a donkey exploded in Kirkuk, a security source was quoted saying.

The source told Alsumaria News that eight militants were putting an explosives vest on a donkey at al-Rashad region, 40 kilometers southwest of Kirkuk, preparing to send it to security deployments in Hamreen mountains.

The boobytrap exploded prematurely, however, killing three and wounding five, according to the source who said the new technique aims at avoiding strikes by Iraqi and U.S.-led coalition warplanes.

Islamic State militants have held areas in southwestern Kirkuk since 2014, when they declared a “caliphate” rule on a third of Iraq and Syria.

Local tribal leaders and politicians from Kirkuk have mounted pressure on the Iraqi government to hasten with invading Hawija, suggesting that its people were experiencing a humanitarian crisis under the group’s rule as the group continues to massacre civilians attempting to flee the town. The government and military commanders have set Nineveh’s town of Tal Afar as the next target for operations.

ISIS official smoked in airstrike in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A senior Islamic State leader was killed in an airstrike on a group location on the borders between Diyala and Salahuddin provinces, a local official said Thursday.

Sadeq al-Husseini, head of the security committee at Diyala province council, told Alsumaria news that Islamic State’s so-called “operations official”, Abu Ahmad al-Tarrak, was killed along with eight other companions in an air raid on Mutaibija, an area on the borders with Salahuddin that has been a hotspot for islamic State activity.

Husseini said Tarrak was a top IS leader who had for long been on the intelligence services’ targets list.

Violence and armed conflicts killed and wounded more than 500 Iraqis throughout July, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

Islamic State militants have launched occasional attacks against security forces and civilians in Diyala over the past few months, coinciding with government operations that managed to recapture the city of Mosul, Islamic State’s largest bastion in Iraq.

Done with Mosul, the government and military commanders intend to wage further offensives at other IS havens across the country, including Diyala, seeking to mark an end to the sel-proclaimed “caliphate” declared by the group back in 2014.

Ulamas who signed fatwa condemning Maute get threats
[GMANETWORK] Some of the ulamas (Moslem scholars) who signed last Saturday a manifesto condemning the Maute group received threats from the pro-ISIS holy warriors in Marawi City.

Reporting from Marawi, dzBB's Benjie Liwanag said that 20 of the 50 ulamas in Lanao del Sur received the threat on the day they were about to sign the fatwa (manifesto) declaring the Maute group as an enemy of the Maranao people.

Part of the letter from the terrorists--written in Maranao language--reads: "...if you sign the manifesto, you will be considered a 'munafiq' or hypocrite."

Ulama Abdulhamid Umpa Amirpitor told dzBB that despite the threat, all the 50 scholars signed the fatwa.

Also, Amirpitor said that instead of being scared, the ulamas even made the rounds in Lanao del Sur to explain to the people the content of the fatwa.

A fatwa usually explains current issues in light of Islam laws, Amirpitor added.

On August 12, all the mayors and some 50 ulamas of Lanao del Sur province signed a manifesto declaring the Maute group members as enemies.

The manifesto also classifies the group under Daulah Islamiyah or Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, an international terrorist group.

Dawla Islamiyya (Maute Terrorist Group) and its sympathizers are "enemies of the Meranao (or Maranao) People," part of the manifesto reads.

Houthis kick out Sanaa hospital patients in favor of their wounded
Behold the face of Single Payer Healthcare
JEDDAH: Houthi militants are expelling civilian patients from hospitals in Sanaa and other provinces, sources told Arab News.

The sick are being removed from their beds to make way for leaders of the so-called Houthi “popular committees” and their families, as well as injured militants coming back from the battlefield.

Sources in Yemen said Houthi militants used weapons to expel patients from all departments of the largest Yemeni armed forces hospitals in Sanaa and Dhamar. They also threatened to kill doctors and nurses if they tried to protest or prevent them from expelling the patients.

Sources also said that Houthi militias are stealing medicines destined for patients in order to sell them to pharmacies.

Local sources in Al-Bayda province said that forces loyal to deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh had robbed a medical center and forbade staff from offering the most basic services to patients and those in need.

Armed militants in Hajjah prevented local medical centers from receiving cholera patients, the sources said.

Leaders of the “popular committees” are doing this to pressure people in these areas to send their sons to the battlefield, it was claimed.

Meanwhile, an International Red Cross delegation to Marib province heard testimonies regarding human rights violations against civilians that were committed by Houthi militias and forces loyal to Saleh, Sabaa news agency reported Wednesday.

Testimonies were heard from the mothers and wives of detainees in Houthi prisons.

Houthi militias kidnapped their relatives from roads, markets and houses, and some died due to torture in prisons and detention centers, witnesses said.

The militias raided houses without any legal justification, and arrested men, children and women, according to the testimonies.

The militias terrified families, imposed compulsory taxes, conscripted children, blew up buildings and looted homes and stores, witnesses said.

Separately, Reuters reported that the central bank of Yemen floated the national currency, instructing banks to follow the market rate in a move aimed at shoring up a financial system battered by war.

A circular said the Aden bank had ditched the official rate of 250 riyals to the dollar in favor of “the exchange rate prevalent in the market... in accordance with the exchange rate lists issued by the central bank.”

Qatari al-Obaifi, a senior leader at the mobilization forces in Anbar’a al-Baghdadi, told Alsumaria News that the group executed the trio in the town of Qaim, its stronghold near the Syrian borders.

They were less than 15 years of age, and were executed by a firing squad after refusing compulsory recruitment.

Islamic State militants have held the towns of Anah, Rawa and Qaim, west of Anbar and near the Syrian borders, since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives managed to take over several surrounding villages.

The Iraqi government declared victory over Islamic State in Mosul, the group’s former capital in Iraq, in July, and said it was going to proceed towards other group holdouts, including Anbar.

Also late July, Iraqi warplanes reportedly dropped millions of messages telling locals that liberation offensives for the province were nearing, and telling them to stay away from militants’ deployments.

Lebanese President: Army to Liberate Border Territories Occupied by ISIL
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Leb President of the republic, Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, maintained, at the beginning of a Cabinet session on Thursday, that the army was assuming its duty around the clock in order to liberate the border territories occupied by ISIS terrorists.

"We must support the military institution in its national mission," he stressed.

President Aoun said that the economic meeting held recently at Baabda palace had shown flaws in the salary scale and taxes bills, adding that work on rectifying them is underway.

Aoun informed the convening ministers of the outcomes of the Baabda economic meeting, stressing that discussions were "good" and "constructive."

He later tackled school fees’ issue, highlighting the obligation of the Education Ministry to monitor the tuitions.

Moreover, Aoun informed the Cabinet that the Minister of Economy, Raed Khoury, had updated him on his ministry’s work to control prices.

Furthermore, Aoun informed the ministers of his fresh inspection of water dams, reminding them to draft work plans for each ministry with a view of improving the performance of the executive authority.

He also highlighted the necessity to speed up the endorsement of the state budget, adding that the government is determined to submit to the Parliament next year’s budget within the constitutional deadlines.

Antifa Protesters Arrested in Chicago After They Attack Cops Outside Courthouse
[DAILYWIRE] Three members of Antifa
...purveyors of mindless lefty revolution...
were arrested Wednesday night after they tangled with Chicago police outside of a courthouse on the city's northwest side.

The "protesters" were clad all in black with black bandanas covering their faces. They claimed to be there to demonstrate against a man facing arraignment inside the courtroom, who they said had ties to "white supremacist" and "right wing" groups.

But what started out as a run-of-the-mill leftist rally featuring the same, old, tired, scripted chants ("Racist, sexist, anti-gay, Neo-Nazis go away!"), ended in a melee after Chicago police showed up to try to contain the demonstration. Protesters had wandered away from public property and blocked an intersection, making notoriously terrible Chicago traffic even worse for innocent bystanders, and causing havoc for local residents.

When law enforcement showed up, they found themselves in a tussle with the "anti-fascist" protesters, who used epithets like "pig" to entice Chicago police into a brawl. After police easily subdued their leftist attackers, three were led away in handcuffs.

Economy
Kipper und Wipper and the German Financial Meltdown of 1621-23
The great German hyperinflation of 1923 is passing out of living memory now, but it has not been entirely forgotten. Indeed, you don’t have to go too far to hear it cited as a terrible example of what can happen when a government lets the economy spin out of control. At its peak in the autumn of that year, inflation in the Weimar Republic hit 325,000,000 percent, while the exchange rate plummeted from 9 marks to 4.2 billion marks to the dollar; when thieves robbed one worker who had used a wheelbarrow to cart off the billions of marks that were his week’s wages, they stole the wheelbarrow but left the useless wads of cash piled on the curb. A famous photo taken in this period shows a German housewife firing her boiler with an imposing pile of worthless notes.

Easy though it is to think of 1923 as a uniquely terrible episode, though, the truth is that it was not. It was not even the worst of the 20th century; during its Hungarian equivalent, in 1945-46, prices doubled every 15 hours, and at the peak of this crisis, the Hungarian government was forced to announce the latest inflation rate via radio each morning–so workers could negotiate a new pay scale with their bosses—and issue the largest-denomination bank note ever to be legal tender: the 100 quintillion (1020) pengo note. When the debased currency was finally withdrawn, the total value of all the cash then in circulation in the country was reckoned at 1/10th of a cent. Nor was 1923 even the first time that Germany had experienced an uncontrollable rise in prices. It had also happened long before, in the early years of the 17th century. And that hyperinflation (which is generally known by its evocative German name, the kipper- und wipperzeit) was a lot stranger than what happened in 1923. In fact, it remains arguably the most bizarre episode in all of economic history.

What made the kipper- und wipperzeit so incredible was that it was the product not only of slipshod economic management, but also of deliberate attempts by a large number of German states to systematically defraud their neighbors. This monetary terrorism had its roots in the economic problems of the late 16th century and lasted long enough to merge into the general crisis of the 1620s caused by the outbreak of the Thirty Years’ War, which killed roughly 20 percent of the population of Germany. While it lasted, the madness infected large swaths of German-speaking Europe, from the Swiss Alps to the Baltic coast, and it resulted in some surreal scenes: Bishops took over nunneries and turned them into makeshift mints, the better to pump out debased coinage; princes indulged in the tit-for-tat unleashing of hordes of crooked money-changers, who crossed into neighboring territories equipped with mobile bureaux de change, bags full of dodgy money, and a roving commission to seek out gullible peasants who would swap their good money for bad. By the time it stuttered to a halt, the kipper- und wipperzeit had undermined economies as far apart as Britain and Muscovy, and—just as in 1923—it was possible to tell how badly things were going from the sight of children playing in the streets with piles of worthless currency.

Spain Brings 600 Mediterranean Migrants To Europe in 24 Hours
[BREITBART] Spain’s maritime rescue service has saved more than 600 migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Morocco in the past 24 hours, making it one of its busiest days so far this year.

The service said it rescued 16 migrants early Thursday in the Strait of Gibraltar, a narrow passage that separates Spain from Morocco. On Wednesday, its vessels rescued 601 migrants, including two in a canoe and six in a beach paddle boat.

The service said of the 601, 432 migrants were rescued in the Strait and 169 further east in the Mediterranean. Some 550 of the migrants were from Maghreb countries of northwest Africa and the rest from sub-Saharan African countries.

More than 9,000 migrants have reached Spain by sea so far this year, more than the total for all of 2016.

The International Organization for Migration said one reason for the increase could be that the Mediterranean Sea crossing from Libya to Italy is seen as increasingly dangerous, due to lawlessness in Libya and stepped-up patrols by the Libyan coast guard. More migrants also reach Spain during good summer weather.

Man detained in French car attack that wounded 6 soldiers
[IsraelTimes] Police have been unable to question driver, who is hospitalized with serious injuries sustained during his arrest

French authorities have detained a man linked to an Algerian driver who sped his car into a group of soldiers near Paris. It is the first arrest in the case.

A judicial official said Thursday the man was arrested Wednesday and will be questioned by counterterrorism investigators.

Police have been unable to question the chief suspect, Hamou Benlatreche, because he remains hospitalized with serious injuries sustained during his arrest, according to the official. The official was not authorized to be publicly named while speaking about an ongoing investigation.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the August 9 attack that injured six soldiers in the Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret.
...but he apparently was an illegal immigrant facing deportation, which has been a trigger for Sudden Jihad Syndrome in others.
Police say Benlatreche, 37, was known to authorities as a suspect in minor crimes but not as someone with radical beliefs.

More Gazans now allowed to travel abroad via Israel, but there’s a catch
[IsraelTimes] Residents of the Strip must commit to not return for at least a year; some made to sign form after already crossing into Israel

Tens of Gazooks crossed into Israel on Tuesday, July 25, travel permits in hand. As they prepared to board the weekly bus from the Erez Crossing to Amman, they were presented with an ultimatum: sign a form saying you won’t return home via Israel for at least year, or head back into Gazoo.

With the Rafah crossing between Gazoo and Egypt closed for most of the year, the only way out for residents of the Strip is usually through Israel. Paleostinians generally fly out of Amman to their desired destinations, since they are forbidden from flying out of Tel Aviv and there are no Paleostinian airports.

Dozen US sailors to be punished for deadly June collision
[Iran Press TV] The commander of a US warship that collided with a Philippine-flagged vessel in the Sea of Japan in June will be punished along with several other sailors, a senior admiral has said.

Admiral Bill Moran, the vice chief of naval operations, said on Thursday the USS Fitzgerald’s commanding officer, executive officer and senior enlisted sailor are among those to be disciplined.
Blaming an enlisted man are they? SPIT !
"They will be detached from the ship for cause, which (means) we've lost trust and confidence for their ability to lead in those positions and they will not return from the ship," Moran said during a presser.

The USS Fitzgerald guided-missile destroyer collided with the Philippine-flagged merchant ship ACX Crystal 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan, in the early hours of June 17, killing seven American seamen.

The 10,000-ton guided-missile destroyer and the ACX Crystal, a 29,000-ton container ship collided off Japan's Izu Peninsula. While the container ship sustained little damage, the destroyer suffered severe damage to its starboard side.

Several American and Japanese investigations took place into how the USS Fitzgerald and the container ship collided in clear weather south of Tokyo Bay.

According to a copy of Captain Ronald Advincula's report to Japanese ship owner Dainichi Investment Corporation, the vessel had signaled with flashing lights after the warship "suddenly" steamed on to a course to cross its path.

The vessel attempted to get out of the path of the Fitzgerald, but hit it about 10 minutes later at 1:30 a.m., according to the report.

Iraq
More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

Iraqi troops find ISIS chemical reservoir

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces seized on Thursday a cache of chemical substances belonging to Islamic State militants in central Mosul, the police service said.

Federal Police chief, Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, said in a statement that the reservoir, found in Mekkawi street in Mosul’s Old City, included c4 and ammonia among other substances.

Iraqi government forces regained control over the city of Mosul early July after a nine-month campaign seeking to bring down the self-styled “caliphate” declared by the militants from Mosul’s Old City in 2014.

Occasional reports had told of attacks by IS against civilians and security forces in which militants used improvised chemical weapons since an inventory of chemical arms was discovered by Iraqi forces inside laboratories of Mosul University in the eastern side of Mosul, which government troops took over from IS in January.

Security personnel had seized a number of chemical stashes belonging to the extremist group during and after the end of the military campaign. The United Nations had previously confirmed cases of civilians being treated for symptoms of what seemed to be chemical agents.

12 ISIS Bad Guys die in tunnel collapse in Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Twelve Islamic State militants died Thursday when an underground tunnel they were using collapsed in the town of Tal Afar, west of Nineveh, a paramilitary leader said.

Speaking to Alsumaria News, Jabbar al-Maamouri, a commander at the Popular Mobilization Forces, said the militants scurried to the tunnel escaping an air strike. “The strike hit the tunnel’s opening, killing all inside, according to the information we have,” Maamouri stated.

The militants raised alert among members to extract the buried corpses, and did manage to the some out, he said, adding that the group had escalated the digging of tunnels which had usually been used as escape routes or for assaulting security forces.

Tal Afar is 65 kilometers west of Mosul, and is home to a mixed Turkmen and Arab population. Iraqi forces recaptured Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital, early July after more than eight months of U.S.-backed offensives.

Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi and his defense officials have marked Tal Afar as their next target of anti-Islamic State action. Iraqi defense officials said recently that warplanes were carrying out raids on the enclave in preparation for the ground invasion which is yet to be scheduled.

Tal Afar has reportedly seen divisions among Islamic State leaderships, with occasional news telling of power conflicts and dissents among leaders, as well as attempts by some militants to flee the anticipated battle field.

Since Iraqi forces launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Mosul in 2016, paramilitary troops managed to isolate the town from the Syrian borders and from the rest of Nineveh.

Trump cites tale of Gen. Pershing's pigs' blood bullets that historians dismiss
[FoxNews] President Trump on Thursday again cited a story about the late U.S. Army Gen. John J. Pershing dipping bullets in pigs' blood to deter Islamic attacks that has been dismissed by historians as apocryphal.

"Study what General Pershing of the United States did to terrorists when caught," the president tweeted. "There was no more Radical Islamic Terror for 35 years!"

Trump's tweet on Thursday followed the attack in Barcelona, Spain, where a car plowed into a crowd, killing and injuring pedestrians.

The general story is one Trump told – and was criticized for – during the presidential race.

Speaking of Pershing's role after the Philippine-American War of 1899-1902, Trump praised the general during a rally in North Charleston, S.C., in February of last year.

"They were having terrorism problems, just like we do," Trump said at the time.

The president went on to say Pershing ordered his men to dip bullets in the blood of pigs, since pork is forbidden in Islam.

"He lined up the 50 people, and they shot 49 of those people," Trump said. "And the 50th person, he said: 'You go back to your people, and you tell them what happened.' And for 25 years, there wasn't a problem. Okay? Twenty-five years, there wasn't a problem."

During the campaign, the fact-checking website Politifact referred to the story as a "dubious legend."

"This story is a fabrication and has long been discredited," Brian McAllister Linn, a Texas A&M University, told Politifact. "I am amazed it is still making the rounds."

While historians dismiss the tale of dipping bullets in pigs' blood, Pershing did tell a story about using pigs to deter terrorist attackers in his memoir.

"The bodies were publicly buried in the same grave with a dead pig," Pershing wrote. "It was not pleasant to have to take such measures, but the prospect of going to hell instead of heaven sometimes deterred the would-be assassins."
I remember reading about Pershing dipping bullets in pigs blood sometime in the last century. Can anyone verify this?
True or false, now absolutely everyone will be talking about it. And the jihadis will wonder if the next American bullet they encounter will send them permanently to Hell instead of Paradise. Master Persuader master class.

#6  I remembered this, or something similar...

Form Wiki -

Moro Rebellion (1899–1913) was an armed conflict between the Moro people and the United States military.

The word "Moro" is a term for ethnic Muslims who lived in the Southern Philippines, an area that includes Mindanao, Jolo and the neighboring Sulu Archipelago.

Tactics

Pershing wrote the following in his autobiography, about the juramentado:[65]‬

These juramentado were materially reduced in number by a practice the army had already adopted, one that the Mohammedans held in abhorrence. The bodies were publicly buried in the same grave with a dead pig. It was not pleasant to take such measures but the prospect of going to hell instead of heaven sometimes deterred the would-be assassins.[66][67][68]

Though Pershing inflicted this treatment upon captured juramentado,[69]‬ regarding it as an unpleasant measure,[70][71] there is no proof that he used other similar tactics.[72]

30 Syrian regulars die in combat in Damascus
Damascus (Syria News) 30 members of the Syrian army’s 4th brigade were killed and others were wounded, at dawn today, in an ambush set by Rahman Legion, southwest of Jober neighborhood in Damascus.

Qasioun News reported that the Islamist Syrian rebel group ‘Al-Rahman Legion’ set an ambush for the members of the Syrian army’s 4th brigade in al-Manasher area, southwest of Jober neighborhood in Damascus.

Meanwhile, battles took place between the government forces and rebel groups on the outskirts of the neighborhood, amid mutual artillery and rocket shelling, as well as the firing of dozens of GGM missiles on Jober neighborhood.

The army’s 4th brigade suffered heavy human and material losses since the beginning of this month, after leaving Daraa to be deployed in Damascus.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian government forces, backed by the army’s 4th brigade and Republican Guards, have failed to break into the rebel-held Jober neighborhood in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Egypt confiscates assets of 16 Muslim Brotherhood members: Committee
[AlAhram] An Egyptian governmental committee tasked with appraising and seizing the funds of members of the banned Moslem Brüderbund group announced on Thursday that it confiscated the assets of 16 Brotherhood members, al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

Among those whose assets were confiscated are the children of Brotherhood spiritual leader Sheikh Youssef El-Qaradawi
...crackpot Egyptian Islamist theologian. He is best known for his program Shariah and Life on Al Jazeera, with an estimated audience of 60 million kindred souls worldwide. He is also well-known for IslamOnline, which occasionally advocates things like slavery and thumping the old lady with a rod no thicker than an inch, and has published more than 120 books, including Islam: The Future Civilization. Joe has long had a prominent role within the intellectual leadership of the Moslem Brüderbund. Some of his views have been controversial in the West, though less so among the rubes of the Mysterious East, and he was refused entry to the United Kingdom in 2008. In 2004, 2,500 Muslim academics from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and from the Palestinian territories condemned Qaradawi, and accused him of giving Islam a bad name....
, who currently resides in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
In July, El-Qaradawi’s daughter and her husband Hossam Khalaf, a leading member of the Islamist Wasat Party, were tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
on charges of planning terrorist attacks on security forces.

Cairo has been demanding that Qatar hand over the 90-year-old El-Qaradawi, who is wanted in connection with various criminal cases related to terrorism and inciting against the government.

The committee also announced the confiscation of the Cairo Portal company for publishing and distribution, which is owned by Abdel-Wahad Ashour and Sherif Ashour, who the committee says are members of the Brotherhood.

Cairo Portal was blocked in Egypt in July but was later restored after being put under new administration.

The committee also announced that it confiscated 37 branches of the popular Alef bookstore in several governorates including Cairo, Giza, Assiut, Ismailia, and Menoufiya.

Alef bookstore's parent company is owned by businessman and economist Omar El-Shenety, whose assets are currently frozen over suspicions that he is a member of the Brotherhood.

The cultural adviser of Alef Emad Adly told al-Ahram Arabic website that the bookstores are still operational and that head of the Egyptian Publishers Union Adel El-Masry issued a statement saying that the chain has no legal or financial problems.

Adly added that confiscation order is to ensure that the bookstore's shareholders are not members of the Brotherhood.

The committee has delegated the state-owned Akhbar al-Youm investment company to manage Alef bookstore.

Akhbar al-Youm will also manage Business News company, which owns and manages Daily News Egypt, the Business Media group for advertising and the Capital Markets institute.

Business News company, which also owns El-Borsa News, was confiscated in December after one of its shareholders, Mostafa Sakr, was officially accused of being a member of the Brotherhood.

The committee also said that it is putting under new administration 11 formerly Brotherhood-owned schools that have been seized in recent years.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Ten-year-old rape victim delivers baby in India
[Al Jazeera] A 10-year-old sexual abuse victim in India whose abortion plea was turned down by the country's Supreme Court has delivered a baby.

The child, who was repeatedly raped, had a Caesarean section on Thursday.

The girl did not know she was pregnant and was unaware she had delivered a baby.

Her parents told their daughter she was undergoing stomach surgery to remove a stone.

"The girl is doing fine; she is recovering. We expect she will be discharged early next week," said Dasari Harish, a physician who heads a committee overseeing the girl's care.

The minor, whose identity has been kept secret, delivered a baby girl in a state hospital in the northwestern city of Chandigarh, Harish said.

The girl was repeatedly raped by her uncle over seven months.

Almost 11,000 rape cases in 2015

The crime came to light when the girl was taken to hospital complaining of a stomach ache last month and was found to be around 30 weeks - or around seven months - into the pregnancy. Her uncle was tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
shortly afterwards.

"The parents of the girl have refused to take custody of the child, and have agreed to her adoption through the state agency. They said they don't even want to see the child," Harish told Thomson Rooters Foundation.

A local court refused to grant the child an abortion, saying it was too risky at such a late stage. A plea in the Supreme Court was dismissed for the same reason on July 28.

Indian law prohibits terminations at more than 20 weeks unless the mother's life is in danger or in exceptional circumstances.

An increasing number of such cases have come to the courts in recent years.

In May, a court allowed another 10-year-old girl allegedly raped by her stepfather to undergo an abortion.

As many as 10,854 cases of child rape were reported in India in 2015, according to the National Crime Records Bureau.

Home Front: Politix
Democrats Push to Censure President Trump
[VictoryGirls] Congressional Democrats, led by formerly fluffier Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), are calling for the censure of President Donald Trump regarding his remarks following the Charlottesville melee. Democrats, the media outlets that lead them and cowardly Republicans do not believe that President Trump’s initial remarks reflected what they wanted him to say because he used the words "many sides". The Democrat-Media Leviathan wants us all to believe that only the socialist nazis, alt-right losers and white supremacist knuckle-draggers are violent.

From the McClatchyDC.com article:

While the censure is unlikely to see traction in the GOP-led House, it serves as a rebuke to Trump and mirrors some of the Republican criticism the president has faced for his remarks.

"A president of the United States cannot support neo-Nazis. It’s just beyond the pale," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., a member of the House Judiciary Committee. "I hope Republicans who have expressed outrage with what he said put their money where their mouth is."

Thanks, Mr. Nadler. We hadn’t heard from you in a while. Oof.

Next up, MoveOn.org. uses an appearance by Ted Lieu (D-CA) on MSNBC to try to gin up the censure movement. Notice how Mr. Lieu lies so smoothly. He says that "white supremacists" are some of President Trump’s strongest supporters.

Look, Donald Trump was my number fifteen choice for President of the United States. Sweet Meteor Of Death was ahead of Donald Trump in my list. Donald Trump is not a racist. Donald Trump does not embrace white supremacists, the alt-right, the neo-nazis, or the skin heads. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out of that list of shameful subhumans.

Here is transcript of Trump’s initial statement on Charlottesville from Bustle.com:

We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence that’s on many sides. On many sides. It’s been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama, it’s been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America. What is vital now is the swift restoration of law and order, and the protection of innocent lives. No citizen should ever fear for their safety and security in our society. And no child should ever be afraid to go outside and play, or be with their parents, and have a good time.

Bustle.com called this a "weak stance against racism". I don’t know what is weak about it. "...strongest possible terms" and "...egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence" sound pretty strong to me. It’s the "many sides" and the fact that he didn’t "name names". Go sit and spin if you buy that. Try to find a list of the groups that were there in Charlottesville. Here is a partial list from the Southern Poverty Law Center of the fascist right groups that were there. Click on the link if you want to read it. I am not going to give them any more ink. And, from the Daily Caller a list of some of the left wing groups. Again, click if you are curious.

And, the Unite the Right Charlottesville organizer, Jason Kessler. Well, now there is an interesting story. If there was anyone in the media who was the teeniest bit intellectually curious. The Southern Poverty Law Center has a post that speculates that Kessler was part of Occupy Wall Street and so was a left wing fascist in the past. Was Jason Kessler truly converted from left to right fascism or is this a monetary conversion? Oh, if only we had a free press in the United States of America, some might have the intestinal fortitude to look into how this homo sapien piece of excrement supports himself. Just spit balling here.

In the meantime, the "Trump is a racist because of his Charlottesville statement" media meme will continue until the media puppet masters decide to go back to "Russia, Russia, Russia". And, then Jerrold Nadler will forget about censure and jump on the impeachment clown car.
I believe that President Trump looks a things like this and thinks instead of:
"OMG! I've got to change and do things their way!"
it's
"Well, that's one fewer thing they can do to me. Next."

#3  Censure is a formal, and public, group condemnation of an individual, often a group member, whose actions run counter to the group's acceptable standards for individual behavior. In the United States, governmental censure is done when a body's members wish to publicly reprimand the President of the United States, a member of Congress, a judge or a cabinet member. It is a formal statement of disapproval

Formal disapproval? The Democrats and some of the Republicans have done nothing but try to tear down, smear, and demonize Trump since he got elected. There were calls for impeachment before he got inaugurated. Now, Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal publicly states she hopes he will be assassinated. Others keep up the drumbeat for impeachment.

I never realized there were so many unhinged, nut cases in our country. They care little for reality. A partial list of Trump's accomplishments up thru July: Trump. These accomplishments are exactly why there is so much pushback. Trump has turned over the lucrative sandbox they all play in and they don't like it. Any interviews I've seen or heard with people between the coasts would indicate they are O.K. with what he is doing except they would like it to happen faster.

Charlottesville was the militant arm of the Democratic party, Antifa scum, against the KKK, White Supremacy scum. The Democratic party used the Presidents condemnation of Antifa as a rallying point for a coup and thus the usurping in of the twilight zone of the United States of America.

#10  My worry is that the dumbing down of the last two generations has left us with a huge group of people who are utterly ignorant of their heritage, their ownership of the special thing that is America, and their willingness to go along with whatever they are told by the "cool, smart" people in the MSM/Academia/Social Media. Those of us here, who have the longer view and some level of understanding, rely too much I worry on legions of fellow citizens who may not exist anymore. If that is so, we are the ones at risk of losing, not the progressive/socialist/communists/anarchists who are engineering this maelstrom of manufactured anger. At the rear of all the trouble I think you will find our former President and his handlers, foreign and domestic. Years ago when I was more in the know, I was given a briefing on a massive planned public event to protest something, and the law enforcement intelligence included the overhead and street images of the limousines of the invisible backers parked behind the warehouse where the event planners were drawing up the plans for violent confrontations for scripted media. That is happening now, I know intuitively, but wonder who is doing that job?

Barcelona attack, day 2: police shoot dead terror suspects in Cambrils
From the Telegraph's liveblog:
18 AUGUST 2017 • 3:56AM London time
  • Another van attack early Friday morning in Cambrils, 70 miles south of Barcelona: police shoot 5 terrorists dead, 7 injured victims

  • Terror in Barcelona as hired van hit holiday crowd in Las Ramblas Thursday evening

  • 13 people killed and more than 100 people injured, more deaths expected

  • Islamic State claimed responsibility

  • Explosion at Alcanar house Wednesday linked to Barcelona attack, leaving 16 injured, 1 dead

  • Driver still on the run, police confirm, 2 arrested - one Spanish, Moroccan Driss Oubakir, 28

  • Another man shot dead at checkpoint - unclear if linked

  • Trump: 'we'll do whatever is necessary to help'
The Daily Mail adds:
The terrorists, who police say were attempting to carry out a fresh attack in the beach resort town of Cambrils, were reported to have explosives strapped around their waists when they were gunned down.

Reports suggested the group had attempted to carry out a similar attack to that on Las Ramblas by driving a van at pedestrians but their vehicle overturned and they were shot by officers.

In the aftermath of the Barcelona attack police circulated an image of Driss Oukabir, a 28-year-old Catalan resident of Moroccan origin, saying he had rented out a second van thought to be intended as a getaway vehicle - where his documents were found. A man was arrested at the scene.

But police sources said Oukabir later handed himself in at a police station in Ripoll, 65 miles north of Barcelona, claiming his brother had stolen his documents.

His brother is named Moussa Oukabir, 18, who lives in Barcelona, El Pais reports.

Mr Trapero confirmed one person was shot dead as a car attempted to break through a police cordon, leaving an officer with a broken leg. But he said: 'He is a Spanish national and at the moment we have no indication he is linked to these other people.'

Less than 24 hours earlier, an explosion at a bomb factory in Alcanar is believed to have been caused by butane canisters linked to the terror plot. A terror cell is thought to have been planning to fill the van with explosives.

AJK protesters rally to condemn blacklisting of Hizbul Mujahideen by US
[DAWN] A rally to condemn the United States' recent decision to blacklist Hizbul Mujahideen
...Party of Holy Warriors, founded by Muhammad Ahsan Dar in September 1989. One of the Pak sock puppets waging jihad in Indian Kashmir. It was originally organized as the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 1990, Dar declared Hizbul as the sword arm of Jamaat. Hizbul murdered many of the pro-independence intelligentsia in Kashmir. After the organization was taken over by Syed Salahuddin, Dar and several other ex-Hizb leaders were assassinated between 2001 and 2003...
as a 'terrorist organization' was held in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK), on Thursday.

The US decision came weeks after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Syed Salahuddin
...the aging, morbidly obese chief of Hizbul Mujaheddin and the titular head of the United Jihad Council in idyllic Kashmire. Originally owned body and theoretical soul by Jamaat-e-Islami he and his organization are currently controlled by Pakistain's ISI. Salahuddin's hobbies include crocheting doilies shaped like the Taj Mahal, combing his enormous beard, and eating....
was designated a global terrorist.

"Hizbul Mujahideen is a not a terrorist organization but stands for the sentiments and aspirations of Kashmiris and is the centre of their hopes," read a banner carried by protesters.

The demonstrators chanted anti-India and pro-freedom slogans while condemning the US decision as they walked from Burhan Wani Chowk to Garhipan Chowk.

"You can withhold our properties and [bank] accounts if there are any [in the US], but you cannot force us to give up our legitimate struggle for freedom," Sheikh Jamilur Rehman, secretary general of United Jihad Council (UJC), said.

Pakistan slams US blacklisting of Kashmir 'terror' group

[AlAhram] Pakistain on Thursday criticised the United States for blacklisting the Kashmiri separatist group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen as a terrorist organization, calling the move "unjustified".

The State Department designation bans US citizens and residents from dealing with the group and any assets found to belong to it in areas under US jurisdiction will be frozen.

"We are disappointed with the US decision in view of the fact that Kashmire is an internationally recognised dispute with UN Security Council resolutions pending implementation for the last 70 years," Nafees Zakariya, Pakistain's foreign ministry front man, told news hounds in the capital Islamabad.

The move was "completely unjustified", he said.

Vietnam Vet With Dementia Reassured When Colonel Tells Him ‘Your duty is done'
[GoodNewsNetwork] It has been decades since Lawrence Silk foughtthrough three different tours in Vietnam – but due to his dementia, he still wakes up some days and feels like he has to ship out and start fighting once more.

As a means of soothing his troubled mind, however, Lt. Col. Andy LaFrazia stopped by the veteran's bedside with an important gift.

LaFrazia first heard about the 84-year-old's troubled predicament when Silk's daughter Julie Dunn and her husband Kenny posted about her father's condition on social media.

"He believes he has to return to the war to complete his tour and is very upset that his memory care home will not let him go," wrote Kenny. "He is currently in hospice care and through his ups and downs, he consistently is haunted by his need to do his duty."

The couple pleaded for a military official to present their troubled father with some kind of commemoration or certificate that would remind him of his finished service and put his worries to rest.

After being widely shared on Reddit and Facebook, LaFrazia – who coincidentally had served in the same squadron as Silk – volunteered to visit Silk at his care home in Vancouver.

"Today, Lt. Col. LaFrazia presented my dad … with a certificate of appreciation from the US Air Force, a USAF Civil Engineering badge, and challenge coins from the Prime Beef and Red Horse Units," says Julie.

"He also brought with him a reassuring message that his responsibilities to the USAF and the Vietnam Conflict have been concluded and he never has to worry again about returning."

Since posting the photos of the exchange on social media, the couple has become inundated with support and appreciation. Though Kenny and Julie don't know how well the gifts will stave off their father's dark memories, they are still grateful for the gesture.

"When a loved one loses their memory in the twilight of their life, the most that we can hope to give them is comfort and dignity. We feel truly blessed that a community of strangers came together to help us bring that to him when he needed it the most."

Navy to oust top three sailors from USS Fitzgerald after deadly collision
You knew this was coming
The Navy plans to remove the top three officers from the USS Fitzgerald after a deadly collision off the coast of Japan that killed seven sailors, including two from San Diego.

The Fitzgerald collided with the Philippine merchant ship ACX Crystal in June.

The seven sailors who died were trapped in a flooded berthing compartment. Yeoman 3rd Class Shingo Douglass of San Diego, and Fire Controlman 2nd Class Carlos Victor Ganzon Sibayan of Chula Vista were among the victims.

Even if the Crystal had been running dark, they should have been seen.
Some years ago, a carrier hit a mud bank in, iirc, San Francisco harbor. After that, the bridge doctrine was that everybody talked to everybody. If you see it, you say it, even if somebody else said it.
Had the Officer of the Deck changed the atmosphere so that you'll speak when spoken to? Was the command atmosphere so bad that some of the sailors, seeing the Crystal, kept their mouths shut?

#10  FP2169, I don't know how many are these days, but when I was on active duty in the early 70s, we had at least 6 or 7 - Officer of the Deck, Junior Officer of the deck, Helmsman (steered the ship), Lee Helmsman (sent orders to the engine), Quartermaster of the Watch (kept the log and noted the position of the ship), Bosuns Mate of the Watch, and possibly a messenger. With the reduced manning the Navy seems to be doing these days, I wouldn't be surprised if they eliminated the messenger and the lee helmsman, and possibly the bosuns mate.

(Sorry for the sexist terms, but that was what the positions were called in my day. We didn't have any female crew members when I was aboard.)

In addition to the bridge crew, there should have been several lookouts. These tend to be very junior, very bored people.

There would have been several people in the Combat Information Center (CIC) as well - a watch officer, as well as several people watching radar screens.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Death of a Nation
[Strategic Culture Foundation] Every living nation needs symbols. They tell us who we are as one people, in what we believe, and on what basis we organize our common life.

This fact seems to be very clear to the current leadership in Russia, particularly to President Vladimir Putin, in restoring and reunifying a country rent by three generations of Red and White enmity to achieve a national synthesis. With regard to things spiritual, this meant first of all the world-historic reunification of the Russian Orthodox Church, between the Moscow Patriarchate and the New York-based Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. It also meant the rebuilding of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior dynamited by the communists 1931, not coincidentally the recent target for desecration by degenerates hailed by western «democracy» advocates.

Civic and military symbols matter as well. After 1991 there were those who wanted landmarks of the communist era to be ruthlessly expunged the way the Bolsheviks had themselves sought (in Solzhenitsyn’s description) to rub off the age-old face of Russia and to replace it with a new, ersatz Soviet image. Instead, wisdom prevailed. The national anthem adopted in 2001 retains the Soviet melody but with new lyrics (written by Sergey Mikhalkov, who with Gabriel El-Registan had penned the original lyrics in 1944!) ‐ Lenin and Stalin are out, God is in. The old capital is again Saint Petersburg, but the surrounding district still bears the name Leningrad. The red star marks Russia’s military aircraft and vehicles, while the blue Saint Andrew’s cross flies over the fleet. The red stars likewise are still atop the Kremlin towers while the Smolensk icon of Christ once again graces the Savior Gate. The red banner that was hoisted triumphantly on the Reichstag in 1945 is carried on Victory Day. The remains of exiled White commanders like Anton Denikin and Vladimir Kappel were repatriated and reburied at home with honor.

Hamas guard killed in rare suicide attack in Gaza Strip
[AlAhram] A jacket wallah killed a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", guard in southern Gazoo on Thursday, officials said, in what was seen as a rare Islamist attack against the Paleostinian group that has run the impoverished enclave for a decade.

The incident occurred at around 1:00 am near the Gazoo Strip's lone crossing with Egypt along the Sinai Peninsula, where radical Islamists are waging an insurgency against Egyptian forces.

It would be the first time a suicide kaboom has targeted Hamas forces in Gazoo, security sources said.

"Early this morning security forces stopped two people approaching the southern border (with Egypt)," a Hamas interior ministry front man said in a statement.

"One of them went kaboom!," it added.

Interior ministry front man Iyad al-Bozum later referred to it as a suicide attack.

Hamas's military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, said field commander Nidal al-Jaafari, 28, was killed in the attack. Qassam posted a series of photos of Jaafari in military fatigues carrying different weapons. The group blamed "fundamentalist jihadists" for the attack, but further details on their backgrounds and motivations were still being investigated.

Security sources said the attack took place a few hundred metres from the Rafah crossing with Egypt.

The two men approached a small security position there and five guards tried to stop them before one went kaboom!, they said. The second man was moderately maimed, while the four other guards were also maimed, including one seriously, security sources said.

Eyewitnesses said hundreds of security forces deployed along the border after the kaboom.

Islamist group Hamas has run Gazoo for a decade but has been regularly criticised by more radical Salafist groups in the strip. There have been threats of retaliation in recent months over arrests, according to security sources in Gazoo

Hamas has recently boosted its forces along the border with Egypt as it seeks to improve relations with Cairo.

Salafists are also fighting Egyptian security forces in the Sinai Peninsula, which borders Gazoo. There was no indication there was any link.

Egypt has kept the Rafah crossing mostly closed in recent years, though it opened it on Monday for four days to allow Moslems to travel to Mecca for the hajj pilgrimage, as well as for some humanitarian cases. Bozum said the crossing would be open on Thursday as planned.

(ISIS) released a statement Thursday claiming responsibility for a suicide kaboom at the Rafah border crossing, which killed a Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", commander.

The organization said the attack "was done in response to Hamas activity against Salafist jihadists... which includes the destruction of mosques belonging to the organization, the arrest of its members, and their persecution."

Daesh-held Raqqah worst place in Syria, United Nations says. Really.
That tears it! I'm cancelling my Labor Day getaway to Raqqa!
[Iran Press TV] The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
has expressed serious concerns over the humanitarian condition in Syria’s northern city of Raqqah, describing the territory still controlled by the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
terrorist group as "the worst place" in the conflict-plagued Arab country.

"The worst place probably today in Syria is the part of Raqqah that is still held by ISIS," Jan Egeland, the UN humanitarian adviser for Syria, told news hounds in Geneva on Thursday.

The city of Raqqah, which lies on the northern bank of the Euphrates River, was overrun by ISIS bandidos Lions of Islam in March 2013, and was proclaimed the center for most of the Takfiris’ administrative and control tasks the following year.

It is estimated that some 300,000 civilians are trapped inside Raqqah, including 80,000 displaced from other parts of Syria. Thousands have fled in recent months, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs believes about 160,000 people remain in the city.

On June 6, the US-backed murderous Moslems from the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said they had launched an operation aimed at pushing ISIS out of Raqqah.

"They (civilians) are encircled by the SDF fighters and they are used seemingly as human shields by ISIS," Egeland said, noting that "constant air raids" by the US-led coalition purportedly fighting the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group also threaten their lives.

US blacklists Paris and Brussels attacks bomb suspect
[IsraelTimes] The United States adds the suspected jihadist bombmaker said to have supplied the gangs behind the deadly attacks in Gay Paree and Brussels to its terror blacklist.

French and Belgian authorities believe a bad boy known as Ahmad Alkhald provided boom jackets and explosives expertise before the November 13, 2015 attacks on a Gay Paree concert, bars and football crowd that left 130 dead.

He is thought to have fled to Syria, but remained in contact with a gang that later carried out the March 22, 2016 bombings at Brussels airport and a metro station that killed 32 people.

UAE promises $15m per month in aid to Hamas
[IsraelTimes] A Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", delegation returns to Gazoo from Egypt after securing a promise to receive $15 million monthly from the United Arab Emirates and other donor countries to support a committee meant to improve conditions in Gazoo.

The Hamas delegation spent six days in Egypt, where it met with associates of Mohammed Dahlan, an exiled Fatah party member currently living in the UAE.

Samir al-Mashharawi, an ally of Dahlan, reports the existence of the $15 million monthly aid deal in an interview with the Egyptian daily al-Youm al-Saba.

Mashharawi says the money will be under the supervision and custody of Egypt.

Dahlan and Hamas agreed during negotiations in Cairo over July to form a joint committee that would work on humanitarian relief and development of the Gazoo Strip.

The committee will be run by Dahlan associate and Fatah politician Majed Abu Shammala.

Mashharawi also says the committee spoke with Egyptian officials about permanently opening the Rafah crossing in the coming weeks.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Wasserman Schultz' ex-IT aide indicted on 4 counts
[FOXNEWS] Imran Awan, a former IT aide for Democratic Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz
...Congresswoman from Florida, the abrasive chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. She has been a politician since 1992, and prior to that was in training as a political science major. Her primary accomplishment seems to be that she's Jewish...
, was indicted Thursday on four counts including bank fraud and making false statements.

The indictment also includes his wife Hina Alvi.

The grand jury decision in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia comes roughly a month after Awan was tossed in the clink
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
at Dulles airport in Virginia trying to board a plane to Pakistain, where his family is from.

Awan and other IT aides for House Democrats have been on Sherlocks’ radar for months over concerns of possible double-billing, alleged equipment theft, and access to sensitive computer systems. Most politicians fired Awan in February, but Schultz had kept him on until his arrest in July.

The indictment itself, which merely represents formal charges and is not a finding of guilt, addresses separate allegations that Awan and his wife engaged in a conspiracy to obtain home equity lines of credit from the Congressional Federal Credit Union by giving false information about two properties ‐ and then sending the proceeds to individuals in Pakistain.

The case has put renewed scrutiny on Wasserman Schultz for keeping Awan on the payroll for months, even after a criminal investigation was revealed and he was barred from the House IT network.

Kashmiri businessman Watali arrested in terror, separatist funding case
[Daily Excelsior] The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested a prominent Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali from New Delhi for terror funding and separatist activities in Kashmir.

Watali is accused of playing a key role in receiving the funds from Pakistan and then forwarding them to the separatists and even kept account books for it. He is a prominent businessman who has links with mainstream politicians and separatists. His brother, Ali Mohammad Watali, retired as DIG in Kashmir Police and nephew is serving IG in Kashmir Police.

A statement by NIA stated said that Watali’s arrest followed the searches conducted by the NIA on Wednesday at multiple locations in Srinagar, Handwara, Kupwara and Baramulla belonging to his relatives and employees.

The searches have unearthed incriminating material pertaining to receipt of funds by Zahoor Watali from foreign sources and its further distribution to the terrorists and separatists in Kashmir valley for anti-India activities.

He was being questioned by NIA for last over 2 months and was staying in New Delhi for the purpose during this period.

Watali’s residence in Srinagar was first searched by NIA on June 3 during which it had recovered several financial documents related to terror funding apart from land deals handled by him. NIA said that Zahoor Watali is suspected of acting as a “conduit” for illegally remitting funds to the secessionists, terrorists and stone-pelters.

He was earlier arrested in 1990 by Jammu and Kashmir police, when some anti-national activists were found present in his house at Bagat Barzulla, Srinagar. He was taken into custody along with Yaseen Malik, Sajjad Gani Lone, Bilal Lone and others and was jailed for eight months at Jammu.

In 2009, Watali was accused of illegal encroachment of a land and assault, and a case was registered against him at Parimpora police station in Srinagar.

The NIA statement said that Watali was also accused of travelling on a cancelled/invalid passport despite having full knowledge of its being invalid/cancelled.

“Instead of surrendering the cancelled passport to the authorities, he travelled abroad on cancelled/invalid passport on March 21 last year in violation of the law and again when he tried to do so, his invalid passport was seized at Delhi by the authorities,” NIA said.
