Reykjavík to get food delivered by Israeli drones
An Israeli technology firm has launched in Iceland what it says is the world’s first commercial food delivery route based entirely on unmanned aerial vehicles.

Flytrex has partnered in the Nordic country with the on-demand goods service AHA, to provide the service in the capital of Reykjavík, the Icelandic firm announced Tuesday. AHA is Iceland’s largest online marketplace, according to CNBC.

In 2015, the Reykjavík City Council passed a motion endorsing a blanket boycott of Israel. Amid an outcry over the motion, its language was changed to indicate the boycott would apply only to products from Israeli settlements. It was the first European capital to pass a resolution supporting a boycott of Israel or of its settlements.

"We feel that the cooperation with Flytrex is going to put us at the forefront of the competition in terms of what we can offer to both our retailers and to our customers," AHA CEO Maron Kristófersson said in a statement.

His coastal city is subdivided by a large bay and several smaller rivers that make the transportation of goods time consuming and cumbersome. Several restaurants and supermarkets subscribe to the services of AHA, Staff from the joint project of AHA and Flytrex load orders of up to a few kilograms into carrying boxes fitted into drones produced by the Chinese firm DJI. The drones used by AHA are modified Matrice 600 models with six propellers.

'Venezuela to stage war games in warning to Trump
Ooooooh! How ya gonna pay and feed them, Nick, ya tool?
Venezuela kicks off two days of military drills on Saturday in response to US President Donald Trump's threat of military action and newly announced sanctions on the crisis-stricken nation.

Trump warned on August 11 that the United States was mulling a range of options against Venezuela, "including a possible military option if necessary."

His Vice President Mike Pence later played down the threat, insisting that Washington was prioritizing a diplomatic solution and economic sanctions.

National security advisor HR McMaster followed suit, saying "no military actions are anticipated in the near future."

But tension only surged again when the White House made good on the sanctions threat on Friday, unveiling its first-ever sanctions to target Venezuela as a whole, rather than just Maduro and his inner circle.

However...

*The Venezuelans have had a h@rdon for decades about the nearby Dutch Caribbean colonies - it's very much a potential Falklands, especially as the Dutch have a very small force defending the place.
*I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them start harassing shipping, and maybe be just stupid enough to board a US-flag ship.

#6  Mike they actually do have some good military tech. Bought during the oil haydays in the late 90s. They have Mig-29s, SU-30MKVs, T-72s, a couple subs and a few Italian built frigates.

They do have a large paramilitary force as well to keep the civies in line, but also a large (for the region) military force. It would take at least one US Corps, couple air assault divisions and at least to carrier groups to take down Venezuela.

The traditional way for a South American socialist economic collapse to end is the national army revolts and resets the board. Barring that, Venezuela's next best hope is to try running "The Mouse That Roared".

Liberals Claim That God’s Rainbow Appropriates The “LGBT” Symbol – Ken Ham Responds
[JOY Digital] Ken Ham, the man behind the Ark Encounter, posted a tweet about the Ark and the nature of the rainbow. He said, "Christians need to take back the rainbow as we do @ArkEncounter -God owns it ‐ He decreed it’s a sign of His covenant with man after the Flood."

Critics denounced his actions, claiming he was appropriating an LGBT symbol.

"This is Ken Ham’s sad attempt to take back the rainbow symbol from the LGBTQ community," read a headline in the Orlando Weekly.

"It makes the ark look incredibly gay," Kentucky Fairness Campaign’s Chris Hartman told USA Today.

The Orlando Weekly also said "So, if you ever drive through Kentucky and see a big gay boat off in the distance, just think of Ken Ham."

Toronto Politicians Want To Ban Graphic Pro-Life Protest Signs
[Daily Caller] Toronto council member Sarah Doucette wants to shut down pro-life protests that depict the results of an abortion with frank pictures of severed fetuses.

CBC News reports that Doucette finds the images "disturbing" and she is angry that pro-life activists are using them to illustrate what happens to a fetus during an abortion. She claims she has had hundreds of complaints from her constituents and now wants to sponsor a bylaw to ban the pictures in the city.

"These are big blown up images. There’s blood, there’s gore, there’s a lot of things there which should not be in people’s faces on their local street," Doucette told CBC News.

The graphic photos are courtesy of Calgary’s Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CCBR), an anti-abortion think tank and education organization that calls itself "the pro-life resistance" in a country where abortion is rarely questioned by politicians.

Netanyahu's empathy for Trump
h/t Gates of Vienna
[CarlineGlick] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was attacked by the media for not jumping on the bandwagon and condemning US President Donald Trump for his response to the far-right and far-left rioters in Charlottesville earlier this month. It may be that he held his tongue because he saw nothing to gain from attacking a friendly president. But it is also reasonable to assume that Netanyahu held his tongue because he empathizes with Trump. More than any leader in the world, Netanyahu understands what Trump is going through. He’s been there himself ‐ and in many ways, is still there. Netanyahu has never enjoyed a day in office when Israel’s unelected elites weren’t at war with him.

From a comparative perspective, Netanyahu’s experiences in his first term in office, from 1996 until 1999, are most similar to Trump’s current position. His 1996 victory over incumbent prime minister Shimon Peres shocked the political class no less than the American political class was stunned by Trump’s victory. And this makes sense. The historical context of Israel’s 1996 election and the US elections last year were strikingly similar.
A short review of Oslo and Consequences
...The 1996 election was the first opportunity the public had to vote on the Oslo process. Then, in spite of Rabin’s assassination and the beautiful ceremonies on the White House lawns with balloons and children holding flowers, the people of Israel said no thank you. We are Zionists, not post-Zionists. We don’t like to get blown to smithereens on buses, and we don’t appreciate being told that victims of terrorism are victims of peace.

Trump likewise replaced the most radical president the US has ever known. Throughout Barack Obama’s eight years in office, despite his failure to restore America’s economic prosperity or secure its interests abroad, Obama enjoyed the sycophantic support of the media, whose leading lights worshiped him and made no bones about it.

...The lessons of Netanyahu’s first term ‐ and to a degree, his subsequent terms in office as well ‐ are clear enough and Trump would do well to apply them.

You cannot appease people who want to destroy you. And you cannot succeed by embracing the failed policies of your predecessors that you were elected to roll back. The elites who reject you will never embrace you. The only way to govern successfully when you are under relentless assault is to empower your supporters and keep faith with them.

Mueller turns up heat on General Flynn over search for missing Hildebeest emails
[WSJ] WASHINGTON--Special counsel Robert Mueller is examining what role, if any, former national security adviser Mike Flynn may have played in a private effort to obtain Hillary Clinton’s emails from Russian hackers, according to people familiar with the matter.

The effort to seek out hackers who were believed to have stolen Mrs. Clinton’s emails, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, was led by a longtime Republican activist, Peter W. Smith. In correspondence and conversations with his colleagues, Mr. Smith portrayed Mr. Flynn as an ally in those efforts and implied that other senior Trump campaign officials were coordinating with him, which they have denied. He also named Mr. Flynn’s consulting firm and his son in the correspondence and conversations.

The special counsel is investigating potential coordination between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Russia in the 2016 election.

Mr. Smith believed that some 33,000 emails that Mrs. Clinton said were personal and had been deleted had been obtained by hackers. Last year, in the final months of the presidential campaign, he made contact with what he said were five groups of hackers, two of which he believed were comprised of Russians, who claimed to have obtained the emails.

#4  Media leaks and the Comey-Mueller team effort gone wrong:

Wiki: [Steven] Hatfill became "the subject of a flood of news media coverage beginning in mid-2002, after television cameras showed Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in biohazard suits searching his apartment" and then Attorney General John Ashcroft named him "person of interest" in the investigation on national television.[1] Hatfill's home was repeatedly raided by the FBI, his phone was tapped, and he was extensively surveilled for more than two years; he was also fired from his job at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).[2] "At a news conference in August 2002, Hatfill tearfully denied that he had anything to do with the anthrax letters and said irresponsible news media coverage based on government leaks had destroyed his reputation".[1] Hatfill filed a lawsuit in 2003, accusing the FBI agents and Justice Department officials who led the criminal investigation of leaking information about him to the press in violation of the federal Privacy Act.[1]

Wiki's "Early Life and Education" (Mattoon, IL to Rhodesia, apartheid regimes and beyond) might provide some insights into why Hatfill was to become such a delightful suspect.

adding:

"The real killer surfaced when the FBI identified another military scientist, Bruce Edwards Ivins, as the man soley responsible. Ivins committed suicide. Hatfill sued the government and collected $4.6 million, while Comey and Mueller went on to greener pastures. Paul Wolfowitz, the deputy defense secretary, said that "Comey was absolutely certain that it was Hatfill."

The above is an excerpt from Rogue Spooks, The Intelligence Waar on Donald Trump, by Dick Morris and Eileen McGann, page 35.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Federal Prosecutors: Senator Bob Menendez Should Absolutely Not Get a Pass to Vote During Corruption Trial
[Townhall] Democrat Senator Bob Menendez is about to go on trial for corruption in New Jersey and a federal judge has ordered he physically remain in the court room throughout the entire process.

Irritated, Menendez filed a request to the court asking if he could leave for votes in the Senate. Federal prosecutors did not mince words when issuingtheir opposition to the request and reminded him he isn't above the law simply because he is a U.S. Senator.
"After being indicted twice for depriving the people who elected him of their right to his honest services, defendant Robert Menendez now demands that this Court disrupt his criminal trial so that he can perform his duties as a United States Senator. Defendant Menendez was indicted in 2015 and 2016 for bribery, conspiracy, honest services fraud, false statements, and violating the Travel Act. Those indictments allege a seven-year bribery conspiracy in which he traded the power of his public office for a lavish lifestyle that included private jet rides and vacations in Paris and the Caribbean," they wrote in a response. "The only reason defendant Menendez’s trial is scheduled for September 2017, almost two-and-a-half years after he was first indicted by a grand jury, is because he has spent that time pursuing a meritless argument that the Constitution immunizes him from prosecution--an argument that has been rejected by every judge to have considered it. Now he seeks to use his status as a United States Senator to pick and choose the dates on which his criminal trial will be conducted."

"This is not the first time defendant Menendez has sought special treatment from this Court. At defendant Menendez’s very first appearance, he asked to be exempted from the routine requirement that defendants surrender their personal passports because of his status as a United States Senator," the response continues. "This case began with defendant Menendez being treated like any other defendant, and it should end that way....only a United States Senator can try to hide behind the very office he corrupted to avoid accountability to the public for his actions."
Brutal indeed.

McCain blasts President Trump over Sheriff Joe Arpaio pardon
[The Hill] Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) blasted President Trump over his pardon of former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Friday, arguing it "undermines his claim for the respect of rule of law."

"Mr. Arpaio was found guilty of criminal contempt for continuing to illegally profile Latinos living in Arizona based on their perceived immigration status in violation of a judge’s orders," McCain said in a statement.

"The President has the authority to make this pardon, but doing so at this time undermines his claim for the respect of rule of law as Mr. Arpaio has shown no remorse for his actions."

Arpaio was convicted of criminal contempt after he disobeyed a federal judge’s order to stop racially profiling individuals suspected of illegally entering the U.S.

#5  The War Secrets Sen. John McCain Hides

Excerpt:

Cannot discuss it

As for her description of the motion sensor evidence about prisoners in Laos, McCain’s response at the hearing was that this data was in a 1974 report that the committee had read but was still classified, so “I cannot discuss it here. … We hope to get it declassified.”

The question to the senator now is: What happened to that report and what happened to the pilots who belonged to those authenticator numbers? Intelligence sources in Washington say the report was never declassified. It became clear over the months of hearings and sparrings that the primary goal of the Kerry-McCain alliance was to clear the way for normalization of relations with Vietnam. They did it in two ways — first, by regularly praising Hanoi for its “cooperation” in the search for information about the unaccounted-for prisoners and then by minimizing and suppressing the volume of evidence to the contrary that had been unearthed by the committee’s staff investigators.

Recasting the issue

Kerry and McCain also tried, at every opportunity, to recast the issue as a debate about how many men could still be alive today, instead of the real issue at stake: How many men were alive in 1973 after the 591 were returned? Although much evidence was kept out of the committee’s final report in January 1993, enough of it, albeit watered down by the committee’s majority, was inserted by the determined staff to demonstrate conclusively that all the prisoners had not come home. Still, if the reader didn’t plow through the entire 1,223-page report but scanned just the brief conclusions in the 43-page executive summary at the beginning, he or she would have found only a weak and pallid statement saying that there was “evidence … that indicates the possibility of survival, at least for a small number” after the repatriation of 1973. On page 468 of the report, McCain provided his own personal statement, saying that “we found no compelling evidence to prove that Americans are alive in captivity today. There is some evidence — though no proof — to suggest only the possibility that a few Americans may have been kept behind after the end of American’s military involvement in Vietnam.”

#9  McCain is a fool. The Sheriff enforced the law until the issuance of an idiotic extra-judicial ruling by a traitorous judge directed that it is now illegal to enforce the law, criminalizing the judge's political opponents...the President using his legal pardon rights the wrong and enforces the rule of law once again...if Hillary would have won, this would've turned into a tinderbox issue.

Pakistan sets terms for help in anti-terror fight
[DAWN] Pakistain’s top civilian and military leadership on Thursday strongly rejected US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s allegations of insincerity and duplicity in the fight against terrorism and set conditions for future counterterrorism cooperation with Washington and Kabul, specifically the removal of hideouts in eastern Afghanistan.

The government’s formal and comprehensive response to the Trump administration’s policy on Afghanistan and South Asia came after a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC), which was chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and attended by ministers for defence, foreign affairs, finance, and interior, the national security adviser, services chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies and military operations.

The NSC was specially convened for deliberations on the US policy and formulating the ’comprehensive response’.

Russian forces destroy 2 chemical arms bases in Syria
[Iran Press TV] The head of the Russian military's branch for protection from chemical weapons says his forces have managed to dismantle two chemical weapons facilities in the formerly holy warrior-held areas in war-torn Syria.

Major General Igor Kirillov said on Friday that Moscow will provide the data to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), without elaborating on the exact location of the facilities that were destroyed this month.

The two bases were the last out of the 27 chemical weapons sites in Syria, Russian media reported.

The Syrian government turned over its entire chemical stockpile under a deal negotiated by Russia and the US back in 2013.

The OPCW oversaw the operations to remove the chemical arsenal from Syria and destroy it.

Friday’s development raises doubts about the West claims that the Syrian army is in possession of chemical weapons.
That would be Russian supervised 'possession' as approved by Saddam.

South African model challenges Grace Mugabe’s immunity after alleged assault
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A South African model who was allegedly attacked by Zim-bob-we’s first lady has filed court papers challenging the government’s decision to grant Grace Mugabe diplomatic immunity, a lawyer said on Thursday.

The wife of President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
allegedly attacked a 20-year-old model Gabriella Engels with an electrical extension cord at a hotel in Johannesburg where the couple’s two sons were staying. The attack left Engels with cuts on her head and forehead. She has filed an assault charge against the 52-year-old Grace Mugabe.

South Africa’s foreign affairs ministry said at the weekend that it had granted Mugabe immunity allowing her to leave the country. Engels and AfriForum, a civil rights group which helps victims of crime, filed an injunction asking the court to annul the minister’s decision.

"The (foreign affairs) minister misinterpreted the law. She applied the wrong principles," AfriForum lawyer Willie Spies told AFP. They are seeking an order to set aside the minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane’s decision "recognizing the immunities and privileges" of Grace Mugabe, according to court documents seen by AFP.

Immunity
They also asked the court to declare that the diplomatic immunity decision "does not confer immunity from prosecution." A hearing into the case will start on September 19, said Spies.

Grace Mugabe was supposed to have reported to the police to make a statement about the allged incident, but did not. Police minister Fikile Mbalula then said "a red alert" had been sent out to border police, and "she is not somebody who has been running away."

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Mugabe flew out of South Africa on a pre-dawn flight on a presidential jet on Sunday. Hours later, the foreign ministry announced that it had granted her immunity. On Wednesday, South African politicians heckled Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa as he answered a question in parliament on the Grace Mugabe debacle.

He said the decision to grant her immunity was taken in line with "internationally-recognized immunity regulations" and admitted it was "the first time we have utilized this type of convention."

Court resets arraignment of lady PNP officer linked to Abu Sayyaf
[NEWSINFO.INQUIRER.NET] The Regional Trial Court (RTC) here has reset the arraignment of a police officer who had links with the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
bandit group.

Judge Jorge Cabalit, of RTC Branch 48 in Tagbilaran City, rescheduled the arraignment of Supt. Maria Cristina Nobleza for the illegal possession of firearms and explosives charges.

No date had yet been set for Nobleza’s schedule on when she would enter her plea before the court.

Sarah Soriano-Hermida, one of Nobleza’s lawyers, said the arraignment was postponed since the court had yet to resolve their motion that sought to dismiss the charges against the police officer.

"Our ground is--the court doesn’t have jurisdiction over the accused Nobleza because the arrest was made illegally," said Hermida.

The judge gave the prosecution 10 days to comment on the motion while the defense would be given another 10 days to answer.

Nobleza, who was wearing a hijab, a veil traditionally worn by Moslem women, arrived the sala of Judge Cabalit around 9 a.m.

Considered a "high risk" detainee, she was heavily escorted by coppers that caused a traffic jam along the city’s B. Inting Street.

Are you ready for … Kasich/Hickenlooper 2020?
[LibertyUnyielding] Why not? Hey, nothing says excitement like two governors who found themselves on the sidelines of their respective parties last year looking for ways to be relevant two years from now. Axios reports that a public tour by John Kasich and John Hickenlooper on health-care reform has a longer-term strategy:
Axios has learned that their duet is part of an alliance that’s gaining momentum toward a possible joint independent bid for president in 2020, likely with Kasich at the top of the ticket ...

Some establishment Dems are apoplectic about the idea of Hickenlooper teaming up with a Republican. One top strategist told me: "No Dem wants Kasich anywhere near our ticket. Sounds like a No Labels fantasy, but moderate Dems would hate it."

But a veteran operativeemails: "Our political system is completely broken. Something big and historic needs to happen to break the logjam. I’m a big Dem but I’m for anything that ... does away with this hyper-partisanship on both sides that is paralyzing our government."

#4  Perhaps Gov. Hickenlooper can call upon his old friends at Platte River Netorks for assistance.

Excerpt: Baffled by how Clinton decided to hire Platte River, ex-employees suggested David DeCamillis, the company's vice-president of sales and marketing might have had a hand in courting her business.

Another theory put forward was that Colorado governor John Hickenlooper recommended them to her. The Democratic National Convention was held in Denver in 2008.

Tera said: 'David DeCamillis was a big Democrat. He went to the Democrat Convention.
'He definitely helped Platte River grow, he had a strong sales background. And he brought a lot of clients on, that was his role as the VP of sales.'

Platte River co-founder Tom Welch revealed DeCamillis – who we revealed was sued for fraud when he worked for Lou Pearlman, the disgraced music impresario who discovered Backstreet Boys and NSync – had hoped to put up Joe Biden, now the vice-president, during the 2008 convention.
'During that Democratic Convention David DeCamillis was going to rent his home to Joe Biden. It was in a relatively posh part of Denver, it was called Washington Park in downtown Denver,' Welch said.

N. Korea fires three ballistic missiles into East Sea
[Yonhap] North Korea launched at least three ballistic missiles into the East Sea on Saturday morning, according to South Korean and U.s. militaries.

The North fired "several unidentified projectiles" from the vicinity Gitdaeryong in Gangwon Province starting at around 6:49 a.m., said the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

Some of those flew more than 250 kilometers in the northeastern direction, it added.

The U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) also said, "Initial assessment indicates three short-range ballistic missile launches."

"The first and third missiles at 11:49 a.m. (Hawaii time) and 12:19 p.m. failed in flight," the PACOM's spokesman Cdr. David Benham said in an emailed statement. "The second missile launch at 12:07 p.m. appears to have blown up almost immediately."

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) determined the three ballistic missile launches from North Korea did not pose a threat to North America, he added.

South Korea and U.S. armed forces are conducing their annual joint drills, called Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG), in Korea.

The North's provocation was immediately reported to President Moon Jae-in, added the JCS.

The presidential office Cheong Wa Dae convened a National Security Council meeting to discuss the issue.

Iraq
Iraq military discovers mass graves of 500 Daesh victims near Mosul
[Iran Press TV] Iraqi military Sherlocks say they have discovered mass graves of 500 people in the vicinity of a ISIS prison near the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
In a Friday statement, the Media Cell Security Investigation team said one grave near the Badoush Prison contained the bodies of 470 inmates killed by ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
s, while a second grave contained the bodies of 30 other victims.

According to a security official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the majority of the victims were presumably Shias or from other minority groups in the city.

In March, Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that the ISIS terrorist group had executed possibly hundreds of detainees in Mosul and buried them in a mass grave that could be the largest one discovered in the country so far.

Witnesses told the New York-based rights organization that the victims, including several members of Iraqi security forces, were executed between June 2014 and May or June 2015, with their bodies dumped in a sinkhole at a site in western Mosul.

Mirpurkhas police arrest 50-year-old man for marrying 12-year-old
But she's got the body of a nine-year-old!
[DAWN] A 50-year-old man was arrested in the village of Ali Bux Kaloi, Mirpurkhas, on Friday for allegedly marrying a 12-year-old girl from the area after a jirga ordered the forced union following a dispute between both parties' families.

Mirpurkhas Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police in-charge Imamuddin Chandio raided the village and arrested Ghulam Mustafa Kaloi along with Nikah Khawan, Maulvi Mir Asif Talpur, who had allegedly administered the nikah on August 22.

Police officials said that the young girl was married to Ghulam Mustafa Kaloi to settle a dispute between the two families which emerged when Ghulam Mustafa's daughter and the minor's brother, Abdul Aziz Kaloi, married each other in court a month ago.

The decision of the minor’s forced marriage was made by a jirga held in the village, police told Dawn.

Station House Officer Latif Leghari told Dawn that the girl had been recovered during the raid on the village, and that a thorough investigation into the matter was underway.

According to the police, a first investigation report (FIR) has been registered at Tando Jan Mohammad Police Station against Ghulam Mustafa Kaloi and Maulvi Asif under the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013 on behalf of the state.

Trump Pardons Sheriff Joe
WASHINGTON, Aug 25 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday granted a pardon to former Arizona lawman and political ally Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in America," less than a month after he was convicted of criminal contempt in a case involving his department's racial profiling policy.

Trump had signaled this week that the first presidential pardon of his administration would go to Arpaio, 85, whom he has frequently praised for his hardline immigration stance. (Reporting by Julia Harte; Editing by Sandra Maler)

President Trump exempts Citgo Petroleum Corp. from Venezuela sanctions
[The Hill] President Trump is exempting Citgo Petroleum Corp., owned by Venezuela’s government, from the financial sanctions imposed Friday on the country.

The latest set of sanctions is meant to punish the government of President Nicolás Maduro as it moves to rewrite the country’s constitution and consolidate his power. To that end, the sanctions seek to exclude the Venezuelan government from the United States’ economy, including its markets and capital, and to make sure the U.S. does not assist the Maduro government.

But Citgo, an oil refiner, retailer and transporter based in the United States and owned by the government’s Petróleos de Venezuela, will get to operate largely as normal.

The White House statement announcing the sanctions framed the Citgo exemption as an attempt "to mitigate harm to the American and Venezuelan people."

Petroleum imports and exports are also exempt, a nod to the significant petroleum trade between the United States and Venezuela.

'People have to watch him': The CIA reportedly suspects its director could try to shield Trump from the Russia probe
[Bus Insider] After numerous CIA officials expressed concern about Director Mike Pompeo's close ties to President Donald Trump to The Washington Post, the CIA dismissed the story as "ridiculous."

Confirmed not long after Trump's inauguration, Pompeo has been overseeing the Counterintelligence Mission Center, a role that puts him close to the FBI's ongoing investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia.

The center has followed the investigation closely, and it tipped off the FBI about potential collusion between Russian agents and Trump's campaign, according to The Post.

But now, CIA officials who spoke to the Post have started to worry that Pompeo -- who once said Russia's interference in the 2016 US presidential election was "no news" and part of a pattern -- could be tested by his ties to Trump. The center, which is pursuing information about the election interference, reports directly to Pompeo.

"People have to watch him," an unnamed CIA official told The Post. "It's almost as if he can't resist the impulse to be political."

But Director of the CIA Office of Public Affairs Dean Boyd told Business Insider that Boyd decided to oversee the CIMC to "strengthen counterintelligence mechanisms and safeguards at CIA" and crack down on "dangerous leaks."

Appears to be something of a trend developing. Pompeo story from yesterday at this link.

Five things to know about Fusion GPS
[The Hill] The private research firm behind a dossier full of incendiary allegations about President Trump is in the public crosshairs after the firm’s founder spent 10 hours behind closed doors with Senate investigators this week.

The firm, Fusion GPS, has become a political football in the increasingly complex investigations into the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.

Trump, backed by the Republican National Committee, has sought to discredit the firm by tying it to both Democrats and the Russian government and suggesting that the unsubstantiated material in the dossier helped spark the federal investigation into his campaign.

But Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is calling for founder Glenn Simpson to testify publicly before the Senate Judiciary Committee, arguing that he has "potential knowledge" about "matters relating to Trump collusion with the Russian meddling [and] possible obstruction of justice."

Committee Republicans, meanwhile, are raising questions about any lobbying work that Fusion GPS may have done on behalf of Russian interests -- allegations that have linked the company to the 2016 meeting between a Russian government lawyer and members of Trump's campaign, including Donald Trump Jr.

Here are five things to know about Fusion GPS as lawmakers and special counsel Robert Mueller continue their investigations into Russian meddling in the presidential election.

Friday Night Hurricane News: POTUS Sends Pentagon Guidance on Transgender Policies
[LI] President Donald Trump has issued guidance to the Pentagon on transgender policies. Trump has asked the military to stop admitting transgender individuals, but gives the secretaries of defense and homeland security some leeway. From Fox News:

The directive reinstates the ban on military service for transgender individuals. It also halts military expenses on sexual reassignment surgery, except for those who have already begun medical procedures, and implements criteria for whether transgender individuals already in the military should be allowed to continue to serve.

Transgender service members have been able to serve openly in the military since last year when then-Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, during the Obama administration, lifted the prior ban.

"In President Trump’s judgment, the previous administration failed to identify a sufficient basis to conclude that terminating long-standing policy and practice would not hinder military effectiveness, disrupt unit cohesion, tax military resources," a senior administration official said Friday.

allies after Erdogan urged German Turks to boycott Germany’s main parties in next month’s general election.

"It is clear that in this state, Turkey will never become a member of the EU," Gabriel said. "It’s not because we don’t want them but because the Ottoman Turkish government and Erdogan are moving fast away from everything that Europe stands for."

EU leaders have been critical of Erdogan’s crackdown on opponents before and after a failed military coup against him in July last year. Accession talks have ground to a virtual halt though Turkey remains a candidate for membership.

Turkey’s Western allies fear that sweeping new powers Erdogan won in a tightly fought referendum in April are pushing Turkey away from democratic values.

Erdogan says both the crackdown and the increased presidential powers are needed to help tackle serious challenges to Turkey’s security both at home and beyond its borders.

Trump imposes hard-hitting economic sanctions on Venezuela
[Iran Press TV] The United States has imposed potentially hard-hitting economic sanctions on Venezuela, barring banks from any new financial dealings with the government or state-run oil company PDVSA.

The White House on Friday announced President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
had signed an executive order "imposing strong, new financial sanctions" on the government of Venezuela.

"The president's new action prohibits dealings in new debt and equity issued by the government of Venezuela and its state oil company," it said in a statement.

"It also prohibits dealings in certain existing bonds owned by the Venezuelan public sector, as well as dividend payments to the government of Venezuela," it added.

The White House said that the measures "are carefully calibrated" to deny the government of President Nicolas Maduro "a critical source of financing to maintain its illegitimate rule, protect the United States financial system from complicity in Venezuela’s corruption and in the impoverishment of the Venezuelan people, and allow for humanitarian assistance."

#1  Wall street has been gambling on Maduro paying bonds. The most recent generated a response from their congress that they would not honor paying those bonds. Maduro then established a new congressional body to rubber stamp the payment of bonds. This should stop the nonsense Wall Street is doing.

Maduro has the bearcats and other army to control the general population. Thousands being held hostage in the prisons who could be executed if the population gets out of control.

The Iraqi forces have seized about three quarters of the city since the offensive started in the early hours of Aug. 20, according to the latest JOC map, published on Friday evening. The bandidos bandidos krazed killers remain in control of the northeast quarter.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Five children, two adults hit by vehicle in Rice Twp.
[CITIZENSVOICE] (Wiles Barre, PA) Five children and two adults were critically injured Friday afternoon when they were hit by a car while taking a walk through their development, township police said.
Probably just a traffic accident. But...
Three of the children and two adults were airlifted to hospitals while two of the children were transported by ambulance, police said.

The driver of the car is in police custody, Sherlocks said.

The incident occurred on Aleksander Drive in Polonia Estates. Investigators say the family was walking down the street and the car was traveling in the opposite lane right before the collision.

"We're still trying to figure out what happened," said Rice Twp. police Sgt. Harry Ehret.

Neighbors said they heard the crash and rushed outside.

"I came out and saw a bunch of kids laying in the street crying," said Patrick Colo, 17, who lives on the street. "I tried to help the best I could."

Eric Wanchisen, 45, said the crash occurred in front of the residence of an emergency room doctor who was home.

"What's the odds she was home? She had them all assessed before the ambulance came," Wanchisen said.

Multiple neighbors credited her with saving the life of a baby who was in a stroller that was hit.

Wanchisen said all the people in the neighborhood have complained about speeding on the road for years.

"This is worse than I ever could have pictured," Wanchisen said.

#1  To whom did they complain? The cops would love to have a target-rich environment where they could write a month's worth of tickets in a couple of days.
There are people who speed just because they don't pay attention and think the road allows it (no turns, and good pavement). Others speed because they want everybody to know they're assholes. Both need to pay fines.

20 killed in attack on Shia mosque in Kabul
[DAWN] At least 20 people were killed in an hours-long suicide bomb and gun attack on a Shia mosque in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Friday, an official said.

"We have 20 killed and more than 50 maimed," Mohammad Ismail Kawoosi, a health ministry official, told AFP.

A police officer, a special forces member, a holy man and a security guard are among the casualties, an interior ministry official said.

(IS) group grabbed credit for the attack through the group's affiliated news agency Amaq.

Officials said gunnies stormed the mosque while worshippers were at Friday prayers, setting off an kaboom and pushing into the shrine.

After the jacket wallah let 'er rip inside the mosque and the attack was underway, police were promptly deployed at the site in a northern Kabul neighbourhood and encircled the mosque, but were not advancing inside to prevent further casualties, police official Mohammed Jamil said.

More kabooms and gunfire echoed from the site of the attack.

Mir Hussain Nasiri, a member of Afghanistan's Shia holy manal council, confirmed that the holy man who was performing the prayers was killed, but did not give his name.

Nasiri said the gunnies had taken over a portion of the mosque with separate prayer areas for men and women.

'Help me take down Sindh's pharaoh': After Nawaz, Imran Khan sets sights on Zardari
[DAWN] Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf

(PTI) Chairman Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
appeared to have former president and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari in his crosshairs as he addressed a public gathering in Sukkur on Friday, calling on the people of the province to come out onto the streets and end the reign of "Sindh's pharaoh".

Although Khan continued his criticism of ousted premier Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
at the gathering, the focus of his attention was Zardari. "A pharaoh in Sindh will also soon be asking 'Why was I removed?'," he said, referring to an oft-repeated refrain by ousted PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif after his disqualification from holding public office.

"But Zardari does not put on an act. He will know why he was removed, and he will leave without a fuss," he vowed.

"When the head of Sindh steals, he cannot stop others from stealing. He corrupts the whole system from top to bottom," Khan asserted, asking the crowd to come out and "take down" Zardari with him, and to usher in a new era for the province.

Fresh Violence Kills 71 in Myanmar's Rakhine State
[AnNahar] At least 71 people including 12 security forces were killed as Rohingya turbans besieged border posts in northern Rakhine State, Myanmar's authorities said Friday -- the highest declared single day toll since fighting broke out last year.

The western state is bisected by religious hatred focused on the stateless Rohingya Moslem minority, who are reviled by many Buddhists and perceived as illegal immigrants colonists.

Friday's fighting went kaboom! around Rathedaung township, where there has been a heavy build up of Myanmar troops in recent weeks, with reports filtering out of killings by shadowy groups, army-blockaded villages and a renewed exodus of refugees heading towards neighboring Bangladesh. Some 20 police posts came under attack in the early hours of Friday by an estimated 150 Lion of Islams, some carrying guns and using homemade explosives, Myanmar's military said.

Abu Sayyaf bandits behead abducted ex-soldier in Basilan
[NEWS.MB.PH] Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
bandidos beheaded a retired army soldier who was recently kidnapped in Basilan
...Basilan is a rugged, jungle-covered island in the southern Philippines. It is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, bandidos, and maybe even orcs. Most people with any sense travel with armed escorts...
and his severed body and head were found later this week in Upper Mahayahay, Maluso, Basilan province.

Joint Task Force Basilan commander Col. Juvymax Uy said the severed body and head of retired master sergeant Julio Pasawa were found last Tuesday at around 8 a.m. in his burnt house in Upper Mahayahay, Maluso town.

Pasawa, 63, a Moslem convert who hails from Pangasinan but chose to live in Maluso, Basilan, was seized before the Lions of Islam attacked barangay (village) Tubigan, also in Maluso on Tuesday killing at least nine people and wounding 11 others.

Armed Forces of the Philippines, Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom) front man Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay said an undetermined number of fully armed bandidos swooped down on the village and fired their guns and burned some houses including a multipurpose hall.

Soldiers of the Joint Task Force Basilan are currently on pursuit operation against ASG members who attacked Barangay Tubigan, Maluso, Basilan Province before dawnbreak Friday.

Around 20 armed Abu Sayyaf bandidos attacked the village of Tubigan in Malusu town, Basilan about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Barangay peace-keeping action teams and civilian volunteers who were initially surprised by the attack, scampered to get their guns and fight the attackers.

Deadly protests in India after "godman" convicted of rape
[SMH.AU] Panchkula: Violent protests erupted in India on Friday, killing at least 19 people, after a court convicted a self-styled "godman" of raping two women, angering thousands of his supporters who said he was innocent, police and officials said.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who calls himself Saint Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan, the head of a social welfare and spiritual group, was found guilty of raping two followers in a case dating back to 2002 at the headquarters of his Dera Sacha Sauda group in the northern town of Sirsa.

Supporters rampaged in response, attacking railway stations, petrol stations and television vans in towns across the northern states of Punjab

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

and Haryana, witnesses said.

At least 19 people were killed, all but one in Panchkula town where the court returned its verdict on Singh, the chief secretary of Haryana Ram Niwas said. More than 200 people were maimed in the two states.

Dozens of cars were burning in Panchkula town while a bloodied body lay in the middle of a road. About 500 army soldiers were deployed to restore order.

"The situation is coming under control," federal home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said in New Delhi.

Television footage showed frantic scenes outside a hospital in Panchkula, with medical staff hurriedly transferring injured patients from ambulances on to wheelchairs and stretchers. Smoke could be seen rising in another part of town.

Cleric’s relatives prevented from holding presser at Lal Masjid
[DAWN] The capital administration on Thursday stopped relatives of deposed Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
holy man Maulana Abdul Aziz
...nutball holy man who runs the Lal Masjid in the heart of Pakistain's capital. After instigating a rebellion against the state in 2007, he was caught trying to sneak away dressed in a burka. He rejects democracy as un-Islamic, which it probably is...
from holding a presser on the grounds that mosques should not be politicised.

A presser on alleged enforced disappearances of Mr Aziz’s family members was scheduled for 3pm. When it was time for the presser, a large contingent of Islamabad police arrived at the mosque and closed off the main entrance.

Mediapersons who had entered the mosque prior to the arrival of the police remained within the mosque’s courtyard for half an hour, while those outside attempted to persuade the police to let them in.

"This is a mosque and not a political area," the police official posted at the spot said, adding: "Besides, there is no one inside the mosque for the briefing, as the maulana and his wife have not arrived."

Mr Aziz’ nephew Haroon Rashid, meanwhile, criticised the police for taking charge of the mosque gates and said the move was a human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violation.

"Mosques are also the community centres of Moslems," he said. "Not allowing media persons to enter the mosque is a violation of freedom of movement and freedom of expression. Maulana’s sisters wanted the address the media ‐ what is the threat in that?"

This Week in Guns, August 26th, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

The rally in Phoenix this past week included a visit from the Arizona based John Brown Gun Club. At the link is a photo of three members standing side by side.

At the age of the young men in the picture, I would have been trying to go out with the pretty girl, because that's the best way to win a war: vanquish your enemies and get the pretty girl.

That was nearly an entire lifetime ago. Now political rallies are getting more violent, but so far no shootings. Yet.

Then there's this from an outfit called the Southern Arizona Militia (from their Facebook page):

The Trump rally in Phoenix was mostly uneventful. Protesters from the left got violent at the end and police dispursed (sic) them with gas. We evacuated a group of pro-trump apparel vendors that were getting attacked. Then a frightened family and an individual asked for an escort back to their vehicles. All in all, it was a good day.

Indeed.

With all the scrutiny by the government and media of independent militias, this seems like a good mission. Chivalry ain't dead.

And from Sam Culper, a primer on gathering intel in your own AO.

With two new machete attacks in Euroland, it is best to go armed, even to political rallies.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mixed. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were higher across the board. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists kill 11, kidnap 8 in Cameroon village
[Iran Press TV] At least 11 people have been killed and eight more kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
bully boyz in an overnight attack on a village in northern Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
near the Nigerian border.

The assailants burned down more than 30 houses in Gakara village, just outside the town of Kolofata, which has been a frequent target of self-detonated bombings by the Nigeria-based terrorist group.

"The attack happened around midnight. The Boko Haram assailants arrived. They set 32 houses on fire... killed, pillaged, and traumatized the population," said a district official on Friday as quoted in a Rooters report, adding that he wished to remain anonymous since he was not authorized to speak.

He added that many people in the targeted village had fled the area for a camp near Kolofata, which houses thousands of people displaced by the Boko Haram campaign.

An army colonel put the corpse count at 11, but the district official said 15 people had been killed, according to the report, which further cited the mayor of Kolofata as confirming the attack but noting that he had no knowledge about the casualty figure.

A child bomber recently killed four members of a local self-defense group in the border village of Amchide in northern Cameroon, an area often targeted by Boko Haram.
Al Ahram adds:
"Boko Haram shot 15 people dead... and kidnapped eight people three of whom were returned on Friday," added the source, who wished to remain anonymous.

India-Pakistan
Benazir murder case: Court questions PPP leaders ‘disappearance’ from Liaquat Bagh
[DAWN] The ’sudden disappearance’ of Rehman Malik
Pak politician, Interior Minister under the Gilani government. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Nawaz Sharif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men. He had to give up the interior ministry job because he held dual Brit citizenship.
, Babar Awan and others from Liaquat Bagh came under discussion during a hearing of the Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...
murder case at a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday.

ATC Judge Asghar Ali Khan asked Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Special Prosecutor Khawaja Imtiaz why Mr Malik, Mr Awan and others who were sitting in Bhutto’s backup vehicle, rushed to Zardari House before her vehicle had left the venue.

According to the testimonies of several prosecution witnesses, including senior coppers, the backup vehicle ‐ a bulletproof Mercedes ‐ was included in the slain PPP leader’s convoy for emergencies.

The prosecutor told the court that in addition to Mr Malik and Mr Awan, Farhatullah Babar and retired Lt Gen Tauqeer Zia were also in the backup vehicle.

He told the court that the joint investigation team (JIT) that conducted an investigation under the PPP regime did not list the passengers of the backup vehicle.

When asked by the ATC judge, the prosecutor disclosed on Thursday that of the around dozen passengers from Bhutto’s vehicle and the backup car, only two had testified before the court under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

He said that since the backup vehicle had already left the venue before Bhutto was assassinated, in their initial statements before the investigation team, the passengers of the backup vehicle had stated that they did not know anything about the incident since they were not present at the scene at the time.

When the judge asked why the backup vehicle left the venue in such haste, the prosecutor said that they were supposed to make arrangements for Bhutto at Zardari House in Islamabad, ahead of her arrival.

"[The passengers of the backup car] said they had rushed to Zardari House to open it for Benazir; was not any staff or servant available in Zardari House to perform such a job?" the judge asked. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the prosecutor could not respond to this question.

To another query regarding the number of people sitting in the vehicle designated for Bhutto, the prosecutor listed then-senior superintendent of police (SSP) retired Maj Imtiaz Hussain, Naheed Khan and Safdar Abbasi, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, as well as Khalid Shehenshah, Razzaq Mirani, and the driver Javed Rehman.

Of these, the prosecution listed only Maj Hussain and the driver as witnesses.

Breaking: Sebastian Gorka Resigns From Trump Administration
Sebastian Gorka is resigning his post as Deputy Assistant to President Trump, multiple sources familiar with the situation have told The Federalist.

In a blunt resignation letter, the national security and counterterrorism expert expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the Trump administration. "[G]iven recent events, it is clear to me that forces that do not support the MAGA promise are ‐ for now ‐ ascendant within the White House," Gorka wrote. "As a result, the best and most effective way I can support you, Mr. President, is from outside the People’s House."

Gorka’s letter expressed unhappiness with the direction the Trump administration’s foreign policy has taken, as signaled by the president’s recent speech on Afghanistan:

"Regrettably, outside of yourself, the individuals who most embodied and represented the policies that will ’Make America Great Again,’ have been internally countered, systematically removed, or undermined in recent months. This was made patently obvious as I read the text of your speech on Afghanistan this week...

"The fact that those who drafted and approved the speech removed any mention of Radical Islam or radical Islamic terrorism proves that a crucial element of your presidential campaign has been lost...

"Just as worrying, when discussing our future actions in the region, the speech listed operational objectives without ever defining the strategic victory conditions we are fighting for. This omission should seriously disturb any national security professional, and any American who is unsatisfied with the last 16 years of disastrous policy decisions which have led to thousands of Americans killed and trillions of taxpayer dollars spent in ways that have not brought security or victory."

During his time in the Trump administration, Gorka focused on issues such as countering the Muslim Brotherhood, the crisis in Qatar, supporting efforts to draft a new long-term national security strategy, and combatting China’s economic warfare. Before coming to the White House, Gorka was the Major General Matthew C. Horner Chair at Marine Corps University and also contributed to Breitbart News.

Gorka’s tenure at the White House was marked by unusually vociferous attacks against him and his family by left-leaning media organizations and the Democratic Party. This includes personal attacks against his wife, mother, and son.

A source close to the White House said of his decision, "This was more or less going to be a done deal when Bannon submitted his resignation. Not because he didn’t have a protector, but because there is no point in having your life ruined every day if you’re not going to get much accomplished." The same source said that what did change after Bannon left was that anti-Bannon factions began erecting bureaucratic road blocks to undermine Gorka internally.

The Forward has written dozens of attack pieces against Gorka, including several attempting to align him with Nazism. Most recently that publication retracted a story about his son’s schoolwork. Gorka strenuously objected to allegations he had ties to Nazi groups in his family’s home country of Hungary, where he had previously been involved in national politics. Even detractors eventually acknowledged the Nazi accusations were unfair smears.

In his letter, Gorka made clear that he believes in the promise of the Trump presidency despite being concerned about its present direction.

"Your presidency will prove to be one of the most significant events in modern American politics. November the 8th was the result of decades during which the political and media elites felt that they knew better than the people who elect them into office. They do not, and the MAGA platform allowed their voices to be heard," he wrote, adding, "Millions of people believe in, and have chosen, you and your vision of Making America Great Again. They will help eventually rebalance this temporary reality."

#2  Gorka has nothing to worry about. Ne sees the administration carefully prepared Trumps Arizona speech, only for Trump to completely ignore the teleprompter and speak to the crowd who was his true base.

You cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Gorka may see the staff trying to handle Trump their way and he may see Trump smiling during the process to keep the peace. But he ain't gonna change.

Southeast Asia
Indonesians uncover syndicate spreading hate speech online
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Indonesian authorities have uncovered a group spreading hate speech and fake news online, one of many that they fear could undermine national unity.

Indonesia has an ethnically diverse population of 250 million people, most of them Moslem but with significant minorities from other religions, and unity across the archipelago has been a priority of governments for generations.

Three people were tossed in the clink
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
this week on suspicion of being part of a syndicate being paid to spread incendiary material online through social media, police said.

"If this is allowed to continue, it isn’t just about violating the law but also has the potential to damage the unity of this country," said presidential front man Johan Budi.

Investigations
Budi said it was up to Sherlocks to determine the motive of those behind the campaign, adding police should investigate the issue "right down to its roots".

National police front man Awi Setiyono said the material involved religious and ethnic issues and posts defamatory to government officials.

He declined to comment on the motive, saying Sherlocks were still building their case and had yet to identify who was behind the syndicate, which calls itself Saracen, that has been spreading the material.

The police cyber crime unit said dozens of Facebook and other social media accounts were being sued to spread the material to an estimated 800,000 social media accounts.

Setiyono said Sherlocks had uncovered money transfers of up to $5,000 to pay those spreading the material.

Religious and ethnic tensions flared in the capital, Jakarta, this year when city elections pitted an ethnic Chinese Christian governor, who was accused on insulting Islam, against a Moslem candidate.

Authorities have scrambled to remove hate speech from social media and online forums in an attempt to defuse tension but a growing amount of content encouraging religious intolerance or radicalism is being shared.

Search giant Google said this month it was working with authorities to tackle content deemed to be offensive.

Nikki Haley Hits Out at Iran, Hezbollah in Vienna
[TRUNEWS] U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
Nikki Haley
...first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
has been in Vienna this week to discuss the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency’s efforts to keep tabs on Iran’s nuclear program.

She first met with IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano to discuss U.S. concerns that Iran strictly adhere to its obligations under the B.O. regime-negotiated nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA. They also discussed ways to prevent Iran from exploiting ambiguous language in the deal.

Haley later met with IAEA inspectors who work directly with Iran’s nuclear scientists, who she thanked for their vital work of monitoring and verifying Iran’s compliance. She made it clear the U.S. insists that IAA inspectors have full access to all facilities related to the JCPOA.

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has been particularly critical of the nuclear deal, and has threatened to end it. Haley’s comments, however, would suggest he won’t do that anytime soon.

In Haley’s absence, the UN Security Council took a report on UNIFIL’s mission. That didn’t keep her from taking the opportunity to hit out at Iran-backed Hezbollah, which has been operating in Syria during the civil war in that country, ostensibly to help root out ISIS.

Trump's voter fraud commission to meet in New Hampshire in September
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] President Trump's controversial election commission is set to hold its second meeting next month.

The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, led by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Vice President Mike Pence, will meet at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m., according to a notice in the Federal Register.

The first meeting, held in Washington, D.C., in July, was met with legal challenges from several groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed a complaint saying the meeting should be held in public. In response to an injunction sought by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a federal judge ruled that livestreaming the event, which was held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, was sufficient.

On Thursday, Democrats renewed their calls for Trump to disband the commission. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
Senator-for-life from New York, renowned for his love of standing in front of cameras. Schumer has been a professional politician since 1975, when disco was in flower. Senate minority leader as of 2017.
, D-N.Y., said in the wake of the deadly Charlottesville protest, the government should work to "end the assault on voting rights."

"Many of us found the Election Integrity Commission distasteful when it was first created," Schumer said. "The president's recent failure to unequivocally condemn bigotry makes its rescission imperative."

The commission has also faced criticism after Kobach, a proponent of strict voter ID laws, requested voter data from every state and the District of Columbia, including the names, addresses, birthdays, the last four digits of Social Security numbers if they are available, voter history, and other personal information.

[THESUN.CO.UK] A MAN said to be "armed with a sword" attacked two coppers outside Buckingham Palace this evening.
Bets as to whether there's a turban involved?
You win -- see update below.
The two officers suffered minor injuries in the incident, but the Metropolitan Police said nobody else had been injured.

Reports on social media claimed he was armed with a sword or machete when he attacked the cops in front of terrified tourists.

Pictures on social media show police cars and a police cordon surrounding the area at the top of The Mall in central London.

The images show at least half a dozen police cars with blue flashing lights.

One twitter user said that "police with guns began encircling the Palace" and directing cars away from the palace.

Scotland Yard said: "A man has been tossed in the calaboose

on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault on police.

"The man was stopped at approximately 8.35pm hours by officers at the Mall outside Buckingham Palace in possession of knife.

"During the course of detaining him, two male coppers suffered minor injuries to their arm.

"The London Ambulance Service were called and they were treated at the scene. They have not been taken to hospital.

"No others persons have been reported injured."

Officers remain on scene and enquiries are ongoing.

The Queen was not in Buckingham Palace at the time of the incident as she is staying at her Scottish residence Balmoral.
Update from the Telegraph at 10:50 a.m. EDT:
A suspect deliberately drove a car at police outside Buckingham Palace and then "reached for a 4ft sword", the Metropolitan Police have said.

Three officers were maimed after tackling a man who drove a blue Toyota Prius at a marked police vehicle on Friday night.

Commander Dean Haydon, of the Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism branch, said: "Uniformed officers then confronted the driver of the vehicle and during that confrontation the driver reached for a four-foot sword that was in the passenger footwell.

"CS gas was used as part of the arrest and during the struggle the individual repeatedly shouted the words Allahu Akbar."

A 26-year-old man from the Luton area is in jug at a central London cop shoppe.

Early on Saturday morning the Metropolitan Police said the suspect had been further jugged

Was Dutch concert canceled because of a single chat message?
[IsraelTimes] Police continue to question detained man over suspected terror plot, but doubts grow about authenticity of threat

Dutch police continued to question a man Friday over a suspected terror plot against a Rotterdam concert, but doubts grew over the authenticity of the threat which triggered a major security alert.

"We... will continue to question the suspect and our investigation is ongoing," Rotterdam police front man Wessel Stolle told AFP, saying there was "not much more" to add.

The 22-year-old suspect, identified by Dutch media as Jimmy F., was incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
during a pre-dawn raid on Thursday in a small village 42 kilometers (26 miles) south of the bustling port city where US rock band Allah-Las was due to play on Wednesday.

The arrest followed a tip-off by Spanish police on Wednesday afternoon who said they had spotted a message on the Telegram chat-app about a possible terror attack, two Dutch newspapers reported, citing unnamed sources.

Telegram is a smartphone app which has often been used by Islamic gunnies due to its encrypted messaging service.

Dutch media said the message appeared to have been posted online by the suspect, with some newspapers suggesting it may have been a prank which backfired.

"The decision to cancel the Allah-Las concert was mainly based on one chat message," the authoritative NRC daily reported.

"The terror threat in Rotterdam came from the 22-year-old," said the centre-left De Volkskrant. Neither report was confirmed by the police.

Dutch Justice Minister Stef Blok had on Thursday denounced the suspect’s actions as "idiotic," fueling doubts over the authenticity of the threat.

But on the same day, Rotterdam police chief Frank Paauw told AFP that the threat was concrete and specific.

"There was concrete information from the Spanish police that an attack would be committed on that date, at this place and against this rock band."

A joke?
Neighbors of the suspect living in the southern town of Zevenbergen described him as a "quiet youngster who still lived with his parents."

"He is a seemingly ordinary student that has a second job at a petrol station and who every-now-and-then drinks a beer at the local pub," daily tabloid De Telegraaf said.

Dutch media said he had taken part in chat groups discussing the war in Syria but that he had demonstrated "no radical viewpoints."

But police said it was too early to say if it was a prank.

"At this stage it is too early to say whether it was indeed a joke," Stolle told AFP.

Anti-terror experts said the Spanish tip-off was not thought to be linked to last week’s deadly vehicle attacks in Barcelona and the Spanish seaside town of Cambrils in which 15 people were killed and another 120 maimed.

"But, seen in the recent context of the attacks in Spain... it is understandable that alarms bells went off," Leiden University expert Jelle van Buuren told the Trouw newspaper.

There were also growing doubts among the Dutch public Friday whether the threat was indeed real, with a public discussion on the issue sending off a stream of comments on Twitter.

"Seriously wondering whether there was an actual #threat. I suspect possible #overkill by the #police," wrote one person identified as "Echo."

Wary eye
Late on Thursday, police released another man who was arrested near the venue, saying the driver -- who was in a white van with Spanish plates containing gas bottles -- was most likely "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

He was arrested after police noticed him driving suspiciously near the Maassilo concert venue in the city’s sprawling harbour district.

Police later said he was drunk and released him saying he was no longer a suspect in the case.

The Netherlands has so far been spared the terror strikes that have rocked its European neighbors recently.

But top Dutch security and intelligence officials have been keeping a wary eye on events.

In June, a Dutch man -- known to authorities as being possibly radicalized -- was arrested filming outside a stadium during a concert. He was later freed, but the incident is still under investigation.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Dismisses over 900 Public Sector Workers
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has dismissed over 900 public sector officials in the latest wave of the purge that followed last year's failed coup, according to an emergency decree published Friday.

A second decree said Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MIT), which was previously under the prime minister, would now report to the president, expanding President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's powers over public institutions.

In another example of his growing control over major institutions, the president has been able to choose university rectors since a controversial emergency decree last October.

More than 140,000 people have been sacked or suspended including judges and prosecutors since July 2016 over alleged links to U.S.-based Islamic holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, who Turkey has accused of ordering the attempted coup. Gulen has denied the charges.

More than 50,000 people including journalists have been placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
under the state of emergency imposed last year in a crackdown that has triggered international concern.

Critics have accused the government of using the state of emergency to crack down on all forms of opposition. But Ottoman Turkish authorities insist it is necessary to ensure Turkey's security from the multiple threats it faces from Gulen and Kurdish bully boys.

A total of 928 people were sacked in the latest decree, including civil servants working in the defense, foreign and interior ministries as well as military personnel.

Ottoman Turkish authorities also stripped 10 retired brigadier generals of their rank.

But the decree said 57 civil servants and military personnel returned to their jobs, including 28 from the justice ministry and related institutions.

Another 734 security personnel returned to their jobs after being suspended over suspected links to Gulen, the national security directorate said in a statement on its website.

Six organizations, including three media outlets in the southeast, were shut down including Dicle Media News Agency, based in the Kurdish-majority city of Diyarbakir.

Dozens of media outlets including newspapers and broadcasters have been closed down since July last year.

- More powers for spies -
The second decree also gave the Ottoman Turkish intelligence agency the power to investigate the defense ministry and Ottoman Turkish armed forces personnel.

Erdogan's authorization would be needed for the intelligence chief to be investigated under the new decree.

The president would also need to approve any request made for the MIT head, currently Hakan Fidan, to act as a witness in court.

The presidency will also head a new body called the National Intelligence Coordination Board (MIKK).

The move appears to be part of measures taken to implement changes approved in the April referendum on expanding Erdogan's powers to create an executive presidency.

Most of the measures are due to come into effect after the 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The latest decree also created 32,014 roles in the national security directorate, including 22,000 coppers, as well as 4,000 judges and prosecutors.

Roger Stone: Cohn ‘Should Be Fired Immediately' for Publicly Criticizing Trump
[Lifezette] President Donald Trump’s top economic adviser Gary Cohn should be fired immediately for publicly criticizing the president, Roger Stone, a longtime Trump confidante, told LifeZette Friday.

Cohn, the chairman of the National Economic Council, aired his disappointment with Trump’s reaction to a racist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on August 12 that turned deadly.

"This administration can and must do better in consistently and unequivocally condemning these groups and do everything we can to heal the deep divisions that exist in our communities," Cohn told the Financial Times for a Friday story.

Cohn had long been rumored to have been upset since Trump's surprise press conference in Trump Tower on August 16, when Trump insisted "both sides" were to blame for the violence. The violence resulted in the death of one counter-protester, and indirectly led to the deaths of two state police officers on air patrol.

Cohn admitted the rumors were true and that he had come under outside pressure to resign.
From his wife, among others, I understand.
"I have come under enormous pressure both to resign and to remain in my current position," Cohn said. "As a patriotic American, I am reluctant to leave my post. But I also feel compelled to voice my distress over the events of the last two weeks. Citizens standing up for equality and freedom can never be equated with white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and the KKK."

Both Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, who is also Jewish, have come under criticism for remaining in Trump's administration. The Washington Post's columnist, Dana Milbank, even suggested last week the men were "court Jews."
Continues. I think Mr. Trump may be between a rock and a hard place with this.
He must surely understand that Cohn needs to go, but the publicity raging on about "White House Dysfunction" would be damaging.

China-Japan-Koreas
Pudgy Launches Short Range Missles: All Duds
North Korea has fired several short-range missiles into the sea off its east coast, as the United States and South Korea conducted annual joint military drills that the North denounces as preparation for war.

The US military's Pacific Command said it had detected three short-range ballistic missiles, all of which failed.

"The first and third missiles at 11:49am and 12:19pm failed in flight. The second missile launch at 12:07pm appears to have blown up almost immediately," it said, using times at its Hawaii-based headquarters.

South Korea said the projectiles were launched from the North's eastern Kangwon province and flew in a north-easterly direction about 250 kilometres into the sea.

Pacific Command said the missiles did not pose a threat to the US mainland or to the Pacific territory of Guam, which North Korea had threatened earlier this month to surround "in a sea of fire".

Tensions had eased since a harsh exchange of threats between Pyongyang and Washington after US President Donald Trump had warned North Korean leader Kim Jong-un he would face "fire and fury" if he threatened the US.

The launch is the first by the North since it test-fired a Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICMB) on July 28 that could have been designed to reach 10,000km, putting parts of the US mainland within reach.

That missile flew for 47 minutes and 12 seconds while reaching a maximum altitude of 3,724.9 kilometres, according to North Korea's state news agency -- a distance that analysts said could reach deep into the US mainland when perfected.

Japan's military said the projectiles did not appear to be objects that could threaten Japan's safety.

The South Korean and US militaries are in the midst of annual defensive drills, which the North routinely describes as preparation for invasion, that involve computer simulations of a war to test readiness. The drills will run until August 31.

The US State Department did not immediately comment about the Saturday missile launches.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson earlier this week credited the North with showing restraint by not launching a missile since the late July ICBM test.

Mr Tillerson had said he hoped that the lack of missile launches or other "provocative acts" by Pyongyang could mean a path could be opening for dialogue "sometime in the near future".

Mr Trump also expressed optimism earlier this week about a possible improvement in relations. "I respect the fact that he is starting to respect us," he said of Mr Kim.

North Korea's state media reported on Saturday that Mr Kim had guided a contest of amphibious landing and aerial strike by its army against targets modelled after South Korean islands near the sea border on the west coast.

In a report that lacked the North's usual belligerent threat against the United States, its official KCNA news agency quoted Kim as telling its Army that it "should think of mercilessly wiping out the enemy with arms only and occupying Seoul at one go and the southern half of Korea".

On Wedesnday, Mr Kim ordered the production of more rocket engines and missile warheads during a visit to a chemical institute of the Academy of Defence Science, an agency that he fostered to develop its ballistic missile programme.

Diagrams and what appeared to be missile parts shown in photographs published in the North's state media suggested Pyongyang was pressing ahead with building a longer-range ballistic missile that could potentially reach any part of the US mainland including Washington.

It is also believed to be developing a solid-fuel missile that could be used for submarine launches.

Ex-MNA arrested for allegedly forcibly marrying, abusing relative
[DAWN] Former MNA Faiz Tamman was enjugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
in Rawalpindi on Friday for allegedly forcibly marrying a female relative and keeping her in illegal confinement, police said.

Tamman was arrested after the suspected victim's sister filed a complaint against him in the Rawat cop shoppe, accusing the ex-politician of of marrying the victim through emotional and physical abuse, blackmail and drug abuse, and attempting to seize her property.

The complaint states that Tamman was a distant relative of the victim, an unmarried orphan, and had allegedly offered to help her, but instead took her to his home and eventually married her by manipulating and drugging her.

Tamman, it alleged, is married and has two children and his wife assisted him in his crimes against the victim, who, according to the complaint, is being kept in illegal confinement.

When the victim demanded humane treatment and full rights as a wife, she was physically and mentally abused, and subsequently hospital, the complainant claimed.

It also alleged that another of Tamman's cousins has faced the same treatment and currently resides at his home, while he has taken over her property.

Police began an investigation into the matter but Tamman had expressed dissatisfaction with the area station house officer, after which the case was passed on to a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).

The DSP on Friday, after hearing both parties, arrested Tamman and ordered the arrests of his suspected accomplices.

Subsequently, police started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Tamman, who will be present before the magistrate, with police seeking his physical remand on Saturday, Superintendent Police Iftikharul Haq told Dawn.

Tamman, Sardar of Talagang, was elected an MNA on a fake degree in the 2002 General Election as an independent candidate, but later joined the PML-Q. He switched loyalties, got a PML-N ticket and won the same seat in the 2008 election. He resigned from the National Assembly in 2010, accusing the Sharif brothers of cold-shouldering him. In 2011, he joined the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
and in April this year announced he was re-joining the PML-N.

Justin Trudeau tones down warm welcome for migrants as Canada struggles to cope with influx
[Telegraph] Justin Trudeau has sought to tone down the warm welcome he promised to migrants colonists, after arrivals at the Canadian border hit 250 a day, leaving immigration officials struggling to cope with the influx.

The Canadian prime minister tweeted shortly after President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
announced the halt of the US refugee programme that Canada would still be a haven.

"To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada," he said.

But since the start of the year more than 11,300 people have crossed into Canada by foot from the US, with the surge due in large part to fears about Mr Trump’s immigration policy.

Canada is on track to record the most refugee claims in a decade.

The majority ‐ around 85 per cent, according to Canadian officials ‐ are from Haiti. In May Mr Trump floated the idea of rescinding a long-standing agreement to allow Haitians to remain in the country, meaning that a possible 58,000 Haitians could be deported in 2018.

"For someone to successfully seek asylum it’s not about economic migration," said Mr Trudeau, in an attempt to make economic migrants colonists reconsider.

"It’s about vulnerability, exposure to torture or death, or being stateless people. If they are seeking asylum we’ll evaluate them on the basis of what it is to be a refugee or asylum seeker."
"We don't want Haitians. Nor criminal Somalis -- non-criminal Somalis will be discussed later."
More than 6,000 people have skirted border checkpoints to enter Canada since the start of July.

Overwhelmed by these numbers, the government has increased patrols along the border and added immigration staff to process claims. Montreal’s Olympic stadium has been turned into a temporary welcome center, and the military has been deployed to set up a 500-person camp on the border.

"You will not be at an advantage if you choose to enter Canada irregularly," said Mr Trudeau. "You must follow the rules, and there are many."
"If you don't have money and useful-to-us skills, we don't want you."
Critics have accused Mr Trudeau of encouraging would-be refugees to come to Canada without thinking through the consequences.
When you're that cool, thinking is not required.
Michelle Rempel, a politician from the opposition Conservative Party, said it was "completely ridiculous that the Prime Minister of Canada would tout a tent city" to deal with the influx as winter approached.

Menendez mess: Trial threatens to sideline senator
[FOXNEWS] The upcoming bribery trial for New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez could have damaging consequences for his party whether or not he's convicted, by sidelining him from Congress just as Democrats gear up to fight the Trump agenda.

The senator is now pleading with a federal judge to alter the trial schedule on certain days so he can return to Washington to vote.

So far, however, the court has rejected these requests, which the Trump Justice Department has decried as a bid for "special treatment."

The timing of the trial, set to begin Sept. 6, is critical. It would fall as Congress returns from the August recess and Republicans prepare to vote on President Trump’s legislative agenda -- potentially covering everything from tax reform to health care to the budget and debt ceiling.

#1  Should Menendez get convicted, Gov. Christie would appoint a new Senator to replace Menendez and thus the Pubs would pick up another seat giving them 52.
