ACORN sues California to allow more illegals to vote
[Bombthrowers.com] An ACORN offshoot and other left-wing pressure groups are suing California in federal court because the state hasn’t made it easy enough for Democrats to flood voter rolls with illegal aliens and foreign nationals who aren’t legally eligible to vote.

Throughout the years Mickey Mouse, Mary Poppins, and celebrities living and dead were registered to vote because now-defunct ACORN and its allied groups were allowed to pollute the voter rolls.

The ACORN successor group known as ACCE Institute, League of Women Voters of California, California Common Cause, and the National Council of La Raza want to compel the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to incorporate voter registration material into the forms needed to apply for or renew a driver’s license or state identification card, or submit a change of address. They claim the DMV is violating the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), popularly called "Motor-Voter," by asking the more than a million California residents who renew by mail every year to fill out a separate voter registration form.

Other election fraud-promoting state policies already exist in the Golden State, which is a haven for illegal aliens and illegal voting.

Economy
US growth upgraded to 3 percent in second quarter
[The Hill] The U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of 3 percent in the second quarter, up from the first estimate of 2.6 percent, according to the Department of Commerce.

The second estimate, which incorporates more data, saw strong growth in personal consumption -- which can indicate a general sense of financial security among the population -- and nonresidential fixed investment, which can indicate bullishness on the business side.

The growth is the strongest since the first quarter of 2015, when it hit 3.2 percent, but not as high as the 5.2 percent spurt in the third quarter of 2014.

The healthy growth figure from the April-June period, which is up from the paltry 1.2 percent real gross domestic product growth seen in the first quarter, could be a boon for President Trump, whose administration has promised a decade of 3 percent growth. The quarter also saw a 0.21 percent increase in net exports, meaning a shrinking trade deficit, another key Trump promise.

Trump frequently touts good economic news and accuses the media of failing to cover it.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
16 U.S. Postal Service workers in Metro Atlanta arrested, charged with bribery after drug sting
ATLANTA (CBS46) - Sixteen U.S. Postal Service workers in Metro Atlanta have been charged with accepting bribes to deliver cocaine in a drug trafficking operation, according to the Dept. of Justice.

The workers were charged in three separate federal indictments after it was discovered in a sting operation that the letter carriers were allegedly taking bribes to deliver packages of kilogram-quantities of cocaine.

The indictments state the USPS employees allegedly accepted the bribes from a person they believed was a drug trafficker using the U.S. mail to ship cocaine, multiple kilograms at a time, into the Atlanta area. In exchange for the bribe payments, the letter carriers allegedly provided special addresses that the drug trafficker could use to ship the cocaine.

The letter carriers then intercepted the packages and delivered them to the trafficker. However, the drug trafficker was working with law enforcement and the packages they delivered contained fake drugs.

Some of the postal employees went on to recruit additional USPS employees to join the criminal scheme and accepted additional money for drug packages delivered by recruits.

The USPS employees are as follows:

Cydra Rochelle Alexander, 31, of Riverdale, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Ralph McGill Carrier Annex and Central City Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Aurthamis O. Burch, a/k/a Tank, 46, of Snellville, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Doraville Post Office.

Kawana Rashun Champion, 35, of Jonesboro, Georgia, a clerk assigned to the North Springs Branch of the Sandy Springs Post Office and Central City Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Eleanor Lolita Golden, a/k/a Eleanor Johnson, 54, of East Point, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the West End Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Tonie Harris, 54, of Decatur, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Sandy Springs Post Office.

Leea Janel Holt, 38, of Atlanta, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Old National Branch of the Riverdale Post Office.

Clifton Curtis Lee, a/k/a Cliff, 41, of Lithonia, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Sandy Springs Post Office.

Shakeed Anilah Magee, 40, of College Park, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the West End Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Horace Manson, 40, of Roswell, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the West End Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Olivia Marita Moore, 25, of Atlanta, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Old National Branch of the Riverdale Post Office.

Eddie Nash, 63, of Decatur, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the West End Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Jeffrey A. Pearson, 59, of Austell, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Decatur Post Office.

Rodney Antwain Salter, 33, of Jonesboro, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Martech Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Frank Webb, 40, of Lithonia, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Central City Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Katrina Nicole Wilson, a/k/a Trina, 38, of Fairburn, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the West End Branch of the Atlanta Post Office.

Harvel Donta Young, a/k/a Dante, 39, of Atlanta, Georgia, a letter carrier assigned to the Westside Annex Branch of the Marietta Post Office.

China-Japan-Koreas
Next target Guam, North Korea says (Opens to Video)
[CNN] North Korea's launch of a missile over Japan was a prelude to more military operations directed at the American territory of Guam, North Korean state media warned Wednesday.

The country's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported leader Kim Jong Un presided over the dawn launch Tuesday of the "ultra-modern rocket system," the first missile ever fired from the capital Pyongyang.

North Korean officials told CNN in Pyongyang that Kim was "very satisfied with the performance of the missile."

The intermediate-range missile, identified by the North Koreans as the Hwasong-12, flew over Japan, further fueling tensions between North Korea and the United States and its allies, Japan and South Korea.

Early Wednesday, the US conducted a test intercept of a medium range ballistic missile off the coast of Hawaii, according to a statement from the US Missile Defense Agency.
A US official told CNN the test was planned for a long time, before North Korea's launch.

Is America Now Officially Crazy?
h/t Instapundit
I believe it is. I believe the dominant media culture has gone crazy due to the trauma of not getting their way. I further believe that their constant hysteria makes more sane people not actually crazy, but very stressed out and agitated.

If you've ever spent five minutes in the company with a manic or very anxious person, you know that such psychological states are easily transmittable. I personally know that when I used to have panic, that panic infected the people around me. (And actually, then I would sense their own anxiety and I would become more panicked-- a vicious cycle of sympathetic animal-level emotional transmission.)

It's all part of our pack animal evolution -- it's evolutionarily advantageous to pick up the signals of alarm (even subtle ones) from a neighboring pack animal. When his ears prick up, it's good to prick up your own ears. If he stops breathing to hear more clearly, then it's good to hold your breath too.

But those things are good only when the pack animals around you are sane and reasonably reacting to stimuli that seem to indicate genuinely possible threats.

However, when half of the pack has Mad Cow Disease and shriek and wail over nothing at all, this transmission of anxiety and fear becomes toxic for the healthy members of the pack.

Half of America now consists of barely-functional lunatics, and it's best to avoid them for all sorts of reasons.
I used to wonder the same thing about Israelis after the Oslo accords.

SPLC Steps on Crank
On Monday, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)
,hate group,
removed the historic Iowa town Amana Colonies from its "hate map" that inspired a terrorist attack in 2012. The SPLC had targeted Amana Colonies as a refuge of "hate" because of an alleged link to the neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer. The Amana Colonies is a historic landmark, the site of seven German Pietist villages that produced a self-sustaining local economy for eighty years.
Proving once again the SPLC is not an organization that helps poor people.
"We're thrilled for them changing the map and correcting it to what it should be, and not having the Amanas as a hate group," David Rettig, executive director of the Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the Iowa City Press-Bulletin.
Allegations = conviction.
The SPLC "had previously designated the historic settlement as the home of the Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi and white supremacy news and commentary organization," the Press-Bulletin reported. On Monday, one of the Amanas leaders received word that the SPLC had changed Daily Stormer's designation to "statewide."

The town had previously contested the claim, but the SPLC had stood by its marking the Amanas on the "hate map." Why? The organization claimed "it had confirmation that a group of individuals met sometime in September 2016 at a restaurant in the Amanas."
Big Brother is watching.
"The First Iowa Stormer Bookclub was a success!" a user with the screen name Concerned Troll posted in a September 26, 2016, thread. Concerned Troll did not provide specific details about the visit, but went on to suggest a subsequent meeting in Des Moines.

Local officials shot back, explaining that there are no such groups active in Iowa County. Amanas leaders denounced hate groups and their activities, saying none of their messages or activities are welcome in their town. They demanded that the SPLC remove their community from the "hate map."
Sue them for inciting terrorism.
While Amana had been previously marked on the "hate map," the local leaders remained unaware of this designation until Daily Stormer became infamous following the white nationalist riots in Charlottesville, Va., on August 12.

On Monday, the SPLC finally agreed, removing the town from the map.

This incident should not be lightly brushed over, however. The SPLC's "hate map" inspired a terror attack in 2012.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
The Late Sir Nicholas George Winton MBE: The Power of Good - 'Save one life, save the world'
In December 1938, Nicholas Winton, a 29-year-old London stockbroker, was about to leave for a skiing holiday in Switzerland, when he received a phone call from his friend Martin Blake asking him to cancel his holiday and immediately come to Prague: "I have a most interesting assignment and I need your help. Don't bother bringing your skis." When Winton arrived, he was asked to help in the camps, in which thousands of refugees were living in appalling conditions.

In October 1938, after the ill-fated Munich Agreement between Germany and the Western European powers, the Nazis annexed a large part of western Czechoslovakia, the Sudetenland. Winton was convinced that the German occupation of the rest of the country would soon follow. To him and many others, the outbreak of war seemed inevitable. The news of Kristallnacht, the bloody pogrom (violent attack) against German and Austrian Jews on the nights of November 9 and 10, 1938, had reached Prague. Winton decided to take steps.
"I found out that the children of refugees and other groups of people who were enemies of Hitler weren't being looked after. I decided to try to get permits to Britain for them. I found out that the conditions which were laid down for bringing in a child were chiefly that you had a family that was willing and able to look after the child, and £50, which was quite a large sum of money in those days, that was to be deposited at the Home Office. The situation was heartbreaking. Many of the refugees hadn't the price of a meal. Some of the mothers tried desperately to get money to buy food for themselves and their children. The parents desperately wanted at least to get their children to safety when they couldn't manage to get visas for the whole family. I began to realize what suffering there is when armies start to march."

In terms of his mission, Winton was not thinking in small numbers, but of thousands of children. He was ready to start a mass evacuation.

#1  "Officials at the Home Office worked very slowly with the entry visas. We went to them urgently asking for permits, only to be told languidly, 'Why rush, old boy? Nothing will happen in Europe.' This was a few months before the war broke out. So we forged the Home Office entry permits."

And the last transport of 250 children was slated to leave on the day Germany invaded Poland, which resulted in the borders being closed. Those children disappeared, never to be heard from again.

It was this that the Brits and Europeans were trying to replicate by bringing in child migrants. Unfortunately, unlike the Jews three quarters of a century ago, most of the migrants who signed up for the modern program have had more selfish purposes.

Africa Subsaharan
Robert Mugabe: ‘Why Do Whites Still Have Power In Your Country'
[Newsweek] Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe attacked South Africa over the weekend for affording white people too much power and pointed the finger of blame at Nelson Mandela, the country’s first black president.

Mugabe, 93, spoke Saturday at the funeral of two former members of Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU-PF coalition in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital.

South Africa abandoned apartheid, a system of enforced racial segregation and white-minority rule, in 1994, when Mandela, then president of the African National Congress (ANC), was elected as president for South Africa’s first multiethnic government. But racial inequality remains a hot-button issue in South Africa.

"I asked one of the ANC ministers, ’How come whites have been left with so much power [in South Africa]?’" Mugabe said Saturday, South African news site eNCA reported. "And he said it was because of your friend Mandela. He is the one who made mistakes."

Europe
Danial Pipes on Angela Merkel's Historic Folly
[ME Forum] Asked in 2015 to address the German fear of Islamization, Chancellor Merkel suggested that instead of fearing Islam, Christian Germans should learn more about their own religious roots and go to church more often. Your response?

Merkel's infuriating reply is typical of the elites in western (not eastern) Europe who remain defiantly unaware of the problems that Muslim immigration creates. The reasons are several-fold: guilty feelings, living in a bubble, looking for votes, political correctness, and fear of being called "Islamophobic."

Why guilty feelings?

Because, as French novelist and essayist Pascal Bruckner explained in his 2006 book, La tyrannie de la pénitence, many Europeans feel deep personal remorse about the trio of imperialism, fascism, and racism, even when they themselves are not implicated in those evils.

For some Europeans, white skin itself signals guilt. Accordingly, they feel compelled to show unlimited tolerance and goodwill to non-Westerners. The fact that non-Western peoples also sin does not register ‐ which implies a certain arrogance, even racism: only white sins count.

This sense of guilt is the more striking considering Europe's great advances. I remember visiting Finland in 1987 and thinking as I walked its streets: "This prosperity, freedom, rule of law, and democracy is what humanity has always worked toward and now it's been achieved."

How strange that a Europe which attained such success today drowns in guilt, has too few children, and chooses not to protect itself from a rival civilization. As an historian, I say: Such weakness has no precedent.

Former Ambassador John Bolton: Trump Must Triumph Over Advisers to Scrap Iran Deal
[Free Beacon] President Donald Trump will have to override his advisers if he wants to make good on a campaign promise to abandon the Iran nuclear agreement, according to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, who published a draft proposal for exiting the accord on Monday.

Bolton alluded to a rift within the administration over whether the United States should scrap the landmark deal, and said he was recently denied a meeting with Trump on the issue after staff changes at the White House.

"It's a question of who prevails here: the president or his advisers," Bolton told the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday. "Based on what's been reported in the press, I think [Trump] does believe this deal is detrimental to American interests, so if he wants to get out of it I'm providing a way to do it."

Bolton, once considered for secretary of state and national security adviser during the presidential transition, said in an op-ed published Monday in National Review he was asked last month by Trump's now-ousted strategist, Steve Bannon, to draft a policy proposal on how the United States could withdraw from the nuclear accord.

Illinois Republican Governor Signs Sanctuary State Law
[Breitbart] Illinois’ Republican Governor Bruce Rauner signed legislation shielding the nearly 500,000 illegal aliens from federal immigration law.

Rauner signed the sanctuary state bill into law on Monday, making it illegal for law enforcement to arrest or detain illegal aliens solely based on their immigration status, the Chicago Tribune noted.

The new law will essentially make it impossible for Illinois police to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when they have a suspected criminal illegal alien on their hands, thus increasing the possibility that they will be freed back into the general public.

Bolton says 'staff changes' have prevented him from seeing Trump
[The Hill] "I requested a meeting with him and I was turned down," Bolton told Politico.

In a piece published Monday in the National Review, Bolton expanded on his inability to see the president.

"I offer the Iran nonpaper now as a public service, since staff changes at the White House have made presenting it to President Trump impossible," Bolton wrote as he laid out a plan to get out of an international agreement between Iran and world powers that exchanged sanctions relief for concessions on Iran's nuclear program.

"Although he was once kind enough to tell me 'come in and see me at any time,' those days are now over."
Bolton had previously been eyed for some administration positions, including secretary of State and national security adviser.

In his op-ed, he wrote that former chief strategist Stephen Bannon had asked him to "draw up" for Trump a "game plan" for the Iran nuclear agreement, but he has not been able to present it to the president.

"Here it is. It is only five pages long, but like instant coffee, it can be readily expanded to a comprehensive, hundred-page playbook if the administration were to decide to leave the Iran agreement," Bolton wrote.

"There is no need to wait for the next certification deadline in October. Trump can and should free America from this execrable deal at the earliest opportunity."

Bolton wrote if the president never sees his option, "so be it."

"But let it never be said that the option didn't exist," he wrote.

Imran Awan Has Still-Active Secret House Account, And It's Tied To An Intelligence Staffer
Moved to Page 3

[Daily Caller] A former IT aide suspected of stealing equipment and data from Congress still has an active, secret email account on the House computer system, even though he has been banned from the congressional network because of a criminal investigation into the alleged cybersecurity violations, The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has learned.

Imran Awan’s still-active email address is linked to the name of a House staffer who specializes in intelligence and homeland security matters for Indiana Democratic Rep. André Carson. Court documents and emails obtained by TheDCNF show Awan used the address 123@mail.house.gov in addition to his standard imran.awan@mail.house.gov account.

He and two of his Pakistani-born brothers, as well as his wife, are at the center of an FBI investigation over their IT work with dozens of Democratic congressional offices. Authorities shut down Awan’s standard email account Feb. 2, and he was arrested by the FBI at Dulles International Airport trying to board a flight to his native Pakistan on July 25.

Authorities apparently did not realize Awan has a second account that is not linked to his identity. While his main email address began rejecting mail after it was shut down, the 123 address was still accepting mail Tuesday.

That even though 123@mail.house.gov is assigned to the staffer, it is being used by Imran Awan? Imran therefore still as authentication capabilities to Exchange Server. He can still see all email communications within house.gov if that authentication has admin rights. Being and intelligence type account, it is highly restricted to who can and who cannot know about it. Very clever.

I suspect you could be safe in betting your arse and all of it's fixtures that it 'is.' The fact we're hearing so little about it in the media, DOJ, or from the do-nothing congress intelligence committees provides additional confirmation.

I would even go so far as to predict that we may one day discover the Awans were milking both intelligence agency cows. A very nasty bit of laundry, very nasty indeed.

Keep in mind that Congressional offices are run more or less independently, are not (directly) USG offices, and are more or less stretched in assets and time.

Republicans rising: GOPer finally steps in to halt Mueller hunt
[Wash Times] Republicans led by Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis are mulling an amendment that would dramatically cut funding for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia-President Donald Trump ties.

It’s about time someone in the GOP stepped up to the plate and beat back these ridiculous Russia investigations. DeSantis is suggesting that if Mueller doesn’t find the dirt on the Donald within six months, then that funding would stop.

His proposed amendment also stops Mueller from looking into Trump-tied matters that took place before June 2015, the time when the businessman-turned-president launched his White House campaign.

These are only common-sense measures. Why should taxpayers keep funding an investigation that goes nowhere? Or, one that digs deep, deep, deep into Trump’s past, well before the point he announced his run for the White House?

That’d be called a witch hunt.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US special forces, Turkey-led rebels exchange blows in north Aleppo
[AlMasdar] According to CNN reports, US special forces troops and Turkey-backed militants have engaged each other in northern Aleppo Governorate.

Reports say that the firefights took place near the strategic town of Manbij in countryside controlled by the US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

No casualties have been observed on the side of US special forces.

Furthermore, representatives of the US-led anti-ISIS coalition have directed a formal complaint towards the Ankara government regarding the event.

At this point, it is not clear which side initiated the firefight.

VIDEO: Kurdish forces in Afrin hit by rebel artillery barrage

[AlMasdar] Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) militants have recently carried out a heavy bombardment of the Kurdish People Protection Unit’s (YPG) lines in the Afrin region of northern Aleppo Governorate in a clear attempt to harass their forward-most positions.

The FSA used a number of 81-mm medium mortars in the attack coupled with a drone to observe shell impacts, assess battle damage and adjust fire accordingly.

Pro-rebel media claims that FSA mortar units scored at least one direct hit on a Kurdish position and indeed it appears that (at the end of the video) a militant shell hits an elevated YPG fortification.

Artillery duels between the YPG and Turkey-backed rebels in northern Aleppo are an almost daily event now.

Hama-Homs Highway reopens for humanitarian convoys
[AlMasdar] The highway connecting the Syrian cities of Homs and Hama has been opened for humanitarian convoys, including international ones, Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria Lieutenant General Alexandr Vyaznikov told news hounds. He added that the first United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
convoy had already travelled along the highway.

"In the past couple of days, the Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria has made an agreement to open the Homs-Hama highway," he said.

"The next task is to repair the highway and ensure traffic safety, while demining needs to be done on certain segments of the highway," Vyaznikov noted.

According to him, the Russian military has already accompanied the first UN convoy, consisting on 48 trucks, to provide aid to the residents of al-Rastan.

According to earlier reports, the Russian military reached an agreement on the unblocking of the Homs-Hama highway with the armed opposition groups active in the de-escalation zone north of Homs.

At the Astana meeting on Syria, the guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire (Russia, Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
) signed a memorandum on setting up de-escalation zones in the war-torn country.

De-escalation zones include the Idlib Province, some parts of its neighboring areas in the Latakia, Hama and Aleppo Provinces north of the city of Homs, Eastern Ghouta, as well as the Daraa and al-Quneitra Provinces in southern Syria.

Starting from May 6, military activities and aircraft flights in the de-escalation zones are banned. At the same time, Russia, Iran and Turkey agreed to take all the necessary measures to continue fighting against forces of Evil on these territories and in the rest of Syria.

The memorandum will remain in effect for six months and can be automatically extended for another six months.

Three de-escalation zones have already been established, while the fourth zone in the Idlib Province is being set up.

Syrian retaliatory airstrikes smash terrorist positions in north Homs: video

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) has carried out retaliatory airstrikes against militant positions in northern Homs Governorate.

The SyAAF airstrikes targeted the town of Houla in the militant-held Rastan region north of Homs city. Rebel media reports that at least two airstrikes fell on the settlement.

The strikes were conducted in response to incessant violations – usually in the form of shelling – by jihadist forces of the ceasefire agreement established for the Rastan area.

Indeed, about twelve hours ago jihadist fighters of the Al-Qaeda-linked Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group operating within the Rastan region launched an offensive on pro-government forces west of Salamiyah city. Whether or not the airstrikes are specifically linked to this event cannot be determined yet.

Syrian government forces generally respond to ceasefire violations with artillery or airstrikes against militant positions in the area where jihadists were known to have conducted the attack.

Syrian Army Adventures
Elite Syrian forces liberate 4 key towns from ISIS in east Hama, 10 km until ‘Uqayribat

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continues to tighten its stranglehold on besieged ISIS forces in eastern Hama Governorate, today scoring a critical advance in the direction of ‘Uqayribat – the Islamic State’s stronghold in the region.

Today, the Syrian Army, spearheaded by the elite ISIS Hunters unit, liberated from ISIS the towns of Haddaj, Rasm Zainab, Tahmaz and Bir Ghazaleh. These settlements are located north of the strategic Bilaas mountain chain and SAA positions around Sawwanah.

By this advance, ISIS is now in serious trouble as Syrian forces stand just ten kilometers (via the eastern direction) from the terrorist group’s regional stronghold of ‘Uqayribat.

Not surprisingly ISIS reinforcements are reported to be heading towards the newly liberated areas in bid to re-seize them. To this end, Syrian and Russian airpower is now in the process of targeting all ISIS motorized columns heading in the direction of settlements.

Syrian Army, allies beat back huge Al-Qaeda assault in south Hama

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defence Forces (NDF) have repelled a major assault by the Al-Qaeda-linked Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist group in Hama Governorate’s southern countryside.

During the late night hours crossing over from yesterday to today, HTS militants within the Rastan pocket launched a large assault on SAA and NDF positions west of the strategic city of Salamiyah.

The jihadist attack targeted the town of Tal Darah and the military situation soon became so serious for pro-government forces, that the army was pushed to call on nearby artillery units and Russian airpower in order to break up HTS troop concentrations and buy time for SAA reinforcements to arrive from Salamiyah city.

It appears that the Syrian Army’s 333rd Regiment absorbed the main blow of the jihadist assault.

In any case, the assault by HTS was completely rebuffed by pro-government forces who also re-secured all positions they were made to ceded to jihadist militants at the start of the battle.

Whilst HTS suffered 10 confirmed casualties, that pro-government forces endured nine troops killed in action; there were also many injuries, including local NDF commander Colonel Mohammed al-Kasih who is now recovering in a military hospital.

With the arrival of day break (clashes ending at 5:00 A.M.), the Syrian Arab Air Force has since been bombing HTS positions at the town of al-Sathiyat, where the assault originated from.

Syrian Army, allies advance on ISIL’s last stronghold in central Syria

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies resumed their military operations in the southeastern countryside of the Hama Governorate, Tuesday, striking the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions from two different axes.

The Syrian Army’s Qalamoun Shield forces began the day by storming the Islamic State’s positions directly east of Salamiyah.

This attack resulted in the liberation of al-Taybah, which is a town that is located approximately 19km away from the Islamic State’s stronghold of ‘Uqayrbat.

Following the liberation of al-Taybah, the Syrian Arab Army advanced southeast of Salamiyah, liberating several hilltops overlooking the Abu Hakfeh area.

Once the Abu Hakfeh area is liberated, the Syrian Arab Army will be able to cutoff the Islamic State’s supply line from the Al-Mukharram sub-district to ‘Uqayrbat.

Syrian Army launches surprise assault in Deir Ezzor, liberates large area

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies launched a surprise assault in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, Tuesday, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions in the strategic Panorama area.

Backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Shaytat tribesmen, the Syrian Arab Army’s Republican Guard attacked the Islamic State’s positions near the Panorama School, liberating a large chunk of territory in order to secure their first line of defense.

According to a military source, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate more than 600 square meters of territory in the Panorama area, forcing the Islamic State to abandon several sites in the process

The Syrian Arab Army is now pushing towards the Al-Adm Housing Complex, which is a strategic site in western Deir Ezzor.

Syrian Army rolls back ISIL gains in southeast Raqqa Governorate, Jararih Oil Field liberated

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched an important counter-attack in the southeastern countryside of the Al-Raqqa Governorate, yesterday, in order to recapture the oil rich area they lost to the Islamic State terrorists in the Euphrates Valley.

Led by the Tiger Forces and 5th Legion, the Syrian Arab Army were able to advance and liberate the Jararih Oil Field at the outskirts of Salaam ‘Alaykum village yesterday night.

According to a military report, the Syrian Army encircled the ISIL forces at the Jararih Oil Field, yesterday, before storming their points.

The report added that all of the Islamic State terrorists present at the Jararih Oil Field were eliminated during the brief government counter-attack.

ISIL held this oil field for a few hours on Monday after they launched a big attack using four suicide bombers to penetrate the defenses of the 5th Legion.

According to Leb’s al-Manar, army units have deployed the Murtbaya Crossing that is located near the Zamrani Road in the Ras Ba’albak area of the Beqa’a Governorate.

The Lebanese Army is currently searching the ISIS-occupied areas for explosives and should declare the area safe very soon.

The remaining Islamic State bandidos murderous Moslems that once occupied these areas have been transported from Ras Ba’albak to the Deir Ezzor Governorate city of Albukamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border.

15,000 US-backed troops in Raqqa city
[AlMasdar] In a recent interview with the Rooters news agency, a leading commander of the Kurdish Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), the all-female counterpart to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), claimed that the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) ‐ which both militias are a part of ‐ currently has 15,000 troops invested in the ongoing battle for Raqqa city.

The commander, Nowruz Ahmed, said that this US-vetted Raqqa strike force of 15,000 fighters is part of total SDF strength of at least fifty thousand troops, located throughout all of northern Syria, which have been in service since the end of last year with; this number, she clarified, continues to grow.

In reference to the battle for Raqqa, Ahmed believes that there are around 700 to 1,000 ISIS holy warriors remaining in the city (compared to a recent US intelligence estimate of 2,000) and that it would take about another two months before the SDF fully captured the city from the terrorist group.

Ahmed added that the SDF has no intention to remain in Raqqa after the city is cleared of ISIS unless asked to do so, that there currently was no planned operation for an advance into Deir Ezzor Governorate, although commanders were "studying" such an offensive, and that the US-backed alliance would remain neutral towards government-led forces so long as they did not "make a target" of it.

Cajun Navy members met with gunfire by apparent looters, group says
[WDSU] Members of the Louisiana Cajun Navy, a group of Louisianians helping Tropical Storm Harvey victims in Texas, were shot at Monday by apparent looters, the group said on Facebook.

The Cajun Navy has become widely known across the state for its response efforts during natural disasters and is made up of different groups. The group of first responders previously provided assistance to Louisianians during last year's historic August floods.

One group of rescuers are in Texas already and more are expected to be on the way. Those who have arrived have brought their own boats to aid in the rescue efforts.

Israeli legislators enter al-Aqsa Mosque compound
[Al Jazeera] Two right-wing members of the Israeli parliament have entered the al-Aqsa Mosque compound after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lifted a two-year ban prohibiting politicians from visiting the site.

Accompanied by heavily-armed police, Yehuda Glick, of Netanyahu's Likud party, and Shuli Mualem-Rafaeli, of the Jewish Home, went to the site early on Tuesday as part of a one-day trial period.

Paleostinian leaders condemned the move, with Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for the Paleostinian presidency, saying that the Israeli government was responsible for the provocations at the compound.

Masud Ganaim, a Paleostinian member of the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, also said allowing right-wing politicians into the complex had "the goal of provoking Arab and Moslem sentiment and inflaming the situation".

US, EU To Increase Fight Against Al Shabaab Militants
[RADIOSHABELLE] A top European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
military leader visited Headquarters U.S. Africa Command, in Stuttgart, Germany, to discuss ways to further strengthen the strategic relationship between the two entities, Aug. 24.

Lt. Gen. Esa Pulkkinen, the Director General of the EU Military Staff and Director of the EU Military Planning and Conduct Capability, spent the day meeting with top AFRICOM officials, discussing opportunities for increased cooperation on the African continent.

Pulkkinen, a member of the Finnish Armed Forces, sees AFRICOM’s efforts in Africa as complementary to the EU’s missions there. There are a variety of ways the two collaborate, including information sharing and military liaison arrangements.

Africa presents both risks and opportunities, said Pulkkinen, and the EU is heavily engaged, directly and bilaterally through its member states, to bring stability to the continent.

"Without the security you can’t have any development," he said.

Both AFRICOM and the EU work towards stability in Africa by strengthening the security structures, providing support to the militaries and civilian forces, which are critical to the fight against terrorism, he said. As an example, Pulkkinen cited the efforts of the EU and AFRICOM in Somalia.

Boko Haram leader confesses to Chibok abductions, surrenders
[GEPHARDTDAILY] A top commander of Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
has confessed to leading the abduction of schoolgirls from the town of Chibok and has surrendered to the Nigerian army in Borno State.

Auwal Ismaeela confessed to the kidnappings and other crimes, and was being interrogated at a military facility, the army said.

He has offered to help security agencies locate other commanders of the sect.

Ismaeela said he "led other squads" with another commander in the abduction of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in 2014, according to an interview with PR Nigeria published Sunday.

In May, the Nigerian government said 82 of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram were released, though more than 100 are still missing. The group released 21 of the girls last October and another 50 or so have escaped on their own,

Ismaeela said he led an operation in 2014 in which students and youths at the Central Secondary School in Sabon Garin Madagali were killed.

"It is unfortunate that I was brainwashed and misled not only on some abductions but in the killings of my own people that were innocent," he said. "I wholeheartedly regret my actions."

He said in one of the operations he kidnapped "my wife named Maryam who had two kids for me in Sambisa Forest."

And when Ismaeela led a battle in Konduga, he said he lost his right leg.

"Even at that, I did not stop fighting for the course," Ismaeela said. "Sheikh [Abubakar] Shekau ordered that I should be given a tricycle which I continued to use for various operations before I eventually surrendered."

Trump warns 'all options' on table after North Korea launches missiles
[DAWN] United States President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
warned on Tuesday that "all options" remained under consideration after North Korea launched a missile over Japan.

"Threatening and destabilising actions only increase the North Korean regime's isolation in the region and among all nations of the world," the White House said in a statement.

"All options are on the table." The statement said that the world "has received North Korea's latest message loud and clear: this regime has signalled its contempt for its neighbours, for all members of the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
, and for minimum standards of acceptable international behaviour."

The statement reiterates Trump's past threats to use military action to resolve the ongoing crisis with North Korea, including an apocalyptic warning of raining "fire and fury" on North Korea after Pyongyang last month carried out two Intercontinental ballistic missile tests.

Pyongyang in turn threatened to fire a salvo of missiles towards the US territory of Guam.

Trump also spoke by phone with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe following the missile launch.

"The two leaders agreed that North Korea poses a grave and growing direct threat to the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, as well as to countries around the world," the White House said in a separate statement.

"President Trump and Prime Minister Abe committed to increasing pressure on North Korea, and doing their utmost to convince the international community to do the same."
FOX said that Kim Jong-un attended the last rocket launch. Evidently he enjoys rocket launches. Did I mention that Kim Jong-un was on hand at the launch site for the recent NORK rocket launch ?

Al-Sirraj at European summit: No migrants resettlement in Libya
[Libya Observer] The Head of the UN-proposed government's Presidential Council, Fayez al-Sirraj, has stated that Libya's never-changing policy is opposed to any efforts aiming at resettling illegal migrants colonists in the country.
If Libya doesn't want them why should Europe?
In his speech at the Gay Paree-held European migration summit, al-Sirraj said that Libya is like Europe a victim of the issue, saying Libya is tolerating huge burdens that have so far troubled its budgets.

"Libya's coastguards and border guards have no equipment to combat the armed smuggling networks because Libya is banned from importing weapons." al-Sirraj indicated.

He added that Libya sees that the solution lies in providing economic support for the immigration source countries so that their nationals would need not make the perilous sea journey to Europe, saying that he welcomes Chad and Niger's attendance at the summit in the hope that a common ground will be reached to help secure the joint borders soon.

Morocco Arrests Two over Catalonia Attacks
[IsraelTimes] Spain's Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido, visiting his Moroccan counterpart Tuesday, said Rabat had placed in durance vile

"Thanks to permanent contact and collaboration between the two countries, Moroccan security services have carried out two arrests here in Morocco linked to the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils," he said.

He declined to give further details because the men were still under investigation.

Zoido was in Rabat to meet Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit for talks on the investigation into the attacks on August 17 and 18 which left 16 people dead.

The main suspects in the attacks, claimed by the Islamic State

The two ministers said Morocco was working closely with Spanish security forces.

Laftit warned of the potential influence of "uncontrolled mosques" and "extremist imams" on members of Europe's Moroccan diaspora.

"The children of second and third generation Moroccan immigrants colonists who were born in European countries need particular attention (if they are to) escape the clutches of terrorism," he said.

Militants bomb police checkpoint in southern Thailand
[The Nation] Militants threw two small pipe bombs at a police checkpoint booth and a rented police house in Narathiwat’s Rusoh district on Tuesday, but no one has been reported harmed. The bombs landed on the Tanyong checkpoint booth’s roof and on the rented house’s front awning. They exploded, resulting in damage to the roof and ceiling tiles.

Police investigators said the attack took place a little before noon and they believe it was carried out as part of the insurgency in the far South.

Police spokesman Arkhom Chanleun said officers were patroling the nearby market area at the time of attack. Some officers were heading back towards the checkpoint when two men on a motorcycle approached the checkpoint from behind, hurled the bombs and sped away.

The blast caused market vendors to panic and scramble for safety, but nobody was hurt.

Professor sez Texas Deserves Hurricane Harvey for voting for President Turmp
[Independent] A professor at the University of Tampa has apologised for posting a tweet suggesting Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey deserved the storm because the state supported Donald Trump in the presidential election.

Ken Storey, a professor of sociology, wrote on Twitter: "I don’t believe in instant karma but this kinda feels like it for Texas. Hopefully this will help them realise the GOP doesn’t care about them."

The tweet was later removed, according to Campus Reform.

Mr Storey issued an apology on Monday afternoon, tweeting he "never meant to wish ill will upon any group".

I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday. I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly.

Eric Cardenas, director of public information at the University of Tampa, issued a statement to Fox News about the incident.

"The University of Tampa stands in solidarity with the people impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and our thoughts and prayers are with all involved.

At least nine people are reported to have died as a result of Hurricane Harvey, the worst storm to strike the US in 12 years.

More than 3,000 people have been rescued in Houston and the surrounding area since the storm hit, with thousands still waiting to be picked up.

China: Korean tensions at 'tipping point'
[Al Jazeera] China has warned that tensions on the Korean peninsula have reached a "tipping point" after North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan, a move Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe described as "unprecedented" and a "grave threat" to his country's security.

Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry, urged all sides on Tuesday to avoid provocations, repeating Beijing's call for Pyongyang to suspend missile tests, while proposing that the United States and South Korea China halt ongoing joint military exercises.

The situation is "now at a tipping point approaching a crisis. At the same time there is an opportunity to reopen peace talks", Hua told news hounds in Beijing.

Lebanon rejects changes to mandate for UNIFIL peacekeeping force
[IsraelTimes] As US and Israel accuse UN body of not doing enough to prevent weapons smuggling, Beirut says renewing mandate paramount to country’s security

Leb has called for a UN peacekeeping force’s mandate to be renewed without changes so that it can continue working to prevent hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil conveyed Leb’s position to representatives of the UN Security Council’s permanent members on Tuesday.

The peacekeeping mission known as UNIFIL is up for renewal when its mandate expires on August 31. Israel and the US are pressing for improvements to the force to combat what they say is the spread of illegal arms to Hezbollah-dominated southern Leb.

The UNIFIL commander in Leb and the Lebanese government reject the claims. Bassil said renewing the force’s mandate is paramount to the country’s security. He pointed to what he said were daily Israeli violations of UN resolutions and Lebanese illusory sovereignty.

The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley

, blasted the commander of the UNIFIL peacekeepers on Friday, accusing him of turning a blind eye to weapons smuggling by Hezbollah, considered a terror group by Israel and the US.

Haley had said the 10,500-strong UNIFIL force was "not doing its job effectively" and singled out its Irish leader, Major General Michael Beary.

"What I find totally baffling is the view of the UNIFIL commander General Beary," Haley told news hounds, accusing him of ignoring Hezbollah’s arms caches. "General Beary says there are no Hezbollah weapons."

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely echoed Haley on Sunday.

"We shall not allow this blindness to continue," she told Israel Radio.

Israel’s ambassador returns to Egypt after 8 months away
[IsraelTimes] David Govrin lands in Cairo accompanied by embassy staff, expected to work from his home in suburb of capital

Israel’s ambassador to Egypt has returned to his post, eight months after he and his small staff returned home because of unspecified security threats.

Cairo airport officials said the ambassador, David Govrin, flew back to Cairo on Tuesday with eight staff members. The ambassador and his staff are expected to resume work from the envoy’s suburban Cairo home.

The Israeli embassy in Cairo has been closed since protesters stormed it in 2011.

The Foreign Ministry had no immediate comment. The airport officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Prior to their departure in mid-December, the ambassador and his staff routinely flew home on Thursday and returned to their post on Sunday.

Last week, Egyptian media reported Govrin visited the country for a day, accompanied by a team of embassy employees.

The British Daily Telegraph reported in January that the embassy staff were removed from Egypt in late 2016. Govrin had since been carrying out his duties from Jerusalem, the report said.

Israel, which is a bitter enemy of the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terrorist group in the neighboring Gazoo Strip, sees Egypt as an important ally in the battle against Islamic myrmidon groups in the region and the two countries have close security and intelligence ties.

Govrin, who speaks fluent Arabic, took up his post in July 2016. He posted a video at the time on the internet in which he addressed the Egyptian people and spoke of his hopes for developing ties.

On September 9, 2011, several thousand protesters forcibly entered the Israeli embassy in Giza, Cairo, after breaking down a perimeter wall to the compound. The protests began in response to the inadvertent killing of five Egyptian security guards by IDF soldiers during an attempt to catch forces of Evil who had ambushed and killed eight Israelis along the Israel-Egypt border.

Israel’s embassy in Amman, which was evacuated in July following an incident involving a security guard there, remains shuttered.

Kurds smoke 12 ISIS Bad Guys in Salahuddin
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Twelve Islamic State militants, including a prominent leader, were killed in clashes with Kurdish troops in Salahuddin, a security source from the province said.

“IS militants attacked early on Tuesday Peshermga troops deployed in Zarka axis, west of Tuz Khurmatu. Fierce clashes left around twelve militants and one personnel killed,” the source told AlSumaria News.

“The killed militants included leader called Abu Abdullah al-Ansari,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.

Earlier this month, fourteen Peshmerga personnel were killed and injured as the militant group launched an attack against forces deployed in Zarka region.

Peshmerga fighters have been part of the U.S.-backed military campaign to retake IS-held areas which launched in October.

Occasional attacks carried out by infiltrating IS militants occur in western regions of Tuz Khurmatu.

Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, are still held by the militants which poses threats to the liberated regions. Iraqi troops are urged to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

The government is expected to launch military offensives at the few remaining IS havens, including the ones in Salahuddin.

11 ISIS Turbans die in Anbar airstrikes

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) U.S.-led Coalition jets have killed eleven Islamic State militants and injured four civilians in shelling, west of Anbar, a security source said.

Speaking to Alghad Pess on Tuesday, the source said, “U.S.-led Coalition jets shelled IS locations in al-Sanjak region, near Syrian-Iraqi borders.”

“The jets also shelled al-Nahda al-Sharqiya school, used by IS as a headquarter in Qaim, killing more than 11 militants and wounding four citizens living near the school.” the source added.

In related news, another security source said the militant group deployed an air force in Qaim to secure arrival of militants coming from Syria.

On Monday, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Syrian government agreed with the group on transferring the militants from the border areas with Lebanon to al-Bukamal region on Iraqi-Syrian borders.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

Pakistan indignant over US general’s allegations
Protesting much too much.
[DAWN] Days after the White House accused Pakistain of continuing to harbor holy warriors on its soil, the top US commander in Afghanistan claimed that the United States "knows the Afghan Taliban

leadership is in Quetta and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
The allegation elicited a sharp reaction from Islamabad, which has been fuming over the US president’s harsh remarks, with top government ministers calling upon the US to stop blaming Pakistain for its failure in Afghanistan.

Gen John W. Nicholson, who has been commanding the US forces in Afghanistan since March last year, told Afghan media outlet Tolo News on Saturday that Washington was aware of the Afghan Taliban leadership’s presence in Peshawar and Quetta, adding that the US military would continue to put pressure on Taliban sanctuaries inside and outside Afghanistan.

"The Quetta shura, Peshawar shura -- these shuras are identified by cities inside Pakistain; we know Afghan Taliban leaders are in these areas. Support for holy warriors and Lions of Islam has to be reduced -- [it] has to be stopped," Gen Nicholson said in the interview.

Houston police catch 14 armed robbers and looters amid flood emergency
[ABC13] Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said he is not going to tolerate criminals taking advantage of people in the community during such a devastating time.

He said his officers locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
14 alleged looters since Sunday.

Those arrested will face stiffer punishments under a Texas law providing heftier penalties during a crisis, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

"People displaced or harmed in this storm are not going to be easy prey," Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said.

Burglarizing a home would normally bring a penalty of two to 20 years in prison, but now brings five years to life.
"This is the state of Texas. We are a welcoming city, but we are not going to tolerate people victimizing others," Acevedo said.

He said he will push for the fullest prosecution possible for any crimes committed during such a sensitive time.

Acevedo said his officers arrested a crew of people with guns robbing members of our community Monday night. They found them after a pursuit and took them into custody. He said officers also caught three looters at a Game Stop Monday night.

ABC News Anchor Tom Llamas shared a photo on Twitter just after 11:30 a.m. of a looting situation happening in the Houston area where the Coast Guard is flying overhead.

ISIS releases new propaganda video from central Libya
[Libya Observer] The radical group of ISIS has released new video footage that shows its holy warriors setting up a checkpoint in central Libya.

The video showed a group of ISIS runaways checking cars and trucks in the desert road between al-Jufra and Abu Grein town.

The video, which was posted by the group's propaganda outlet Amaq News Agency, also showed two captives; one is member of Libya’s Constitution Drafting Assembly, Sagayar Majri, and the other is Mohammed Abu Bakr, a member of the Petroleum Facilities Guard.

India-Pakistan
Talks with US suspended in protest, Senators told
[DAWN] Foreign Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif said on Monday that Pakistain had suspended talks and bilateral visits with the United States as a mark of protest over the recent anti-Pakistain diatribe by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
Sources quoted the minister as telling the Senate, which converted itself into a committee prior to its regular session, that Pakistain had taken the fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
remarks seriously.

US Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells was supposed to arrive here on Tuesday, while the foreign minister himself was to travel to the US last week under the previous schedule.

About the recently unveiled policy of the US president on South Asia, Mr Asif said it envisaged no military role for India in Afghanistan. According to the sources, the minister said it was rather a role of economic development. He claimed during the in-camera session of the committee that India would not be allowed to use Afghan soil to destabilise Pakistain.

Britain
Perfidious Albion must decide how to react to US strike on North Korea, warns thinktank
[Guardian] Theresa May urgently needs to establish how the UK will react to a US request for political support for military action against North Korea, a leading figure at a security thinktank has warned.

Malcolm Chalmers, deputy director-general of the Royal United Services Institute, said the prime minister must commission a study to decide the British response, as when the time comes she will "only have hours, at most, to make clear how she stood on what would be one of the most momentous strategic shocks of the post-cold war era".

May’s spokesman, speaking before she begins her visit to Japan on Wednesday, described North Korea’s unannounced firing of a missile over Japan as "reckless provocation" but has not said if she will support a preventive military strike.

Donald Trump said on Tuesday that all options including military action are on the table, while the US envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley, said "something serious has to happen" following the missile test.

May wants her visit to Japan to focus on a possible post-Brexit trade deal and the shape of a future economic relationship but Japanese officials have been analysing the apparent reduction in British influence in the wider world after leaving the EU.
That's the ticket, a Royal Commission. I'd expect nothing less, nor more. Bunch of indolent, wanking Poms.

Puntland Accused Foreign Warships Of Shelling Its Territory
[RADIOSHABELLE] A senior Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
official has accused the foreign warships on the coast of Somalia of carrying out frequent shelling on seaside villages in its territory.

Speaking to the local Media, Mohamud Ahmed Aynab, who is the commissioner of Alula town in Bari region said the naval ships often carry out bombardments on civilian areas.

Aynab has called on Puntland authorities to deal with the strikes by the warships and protect the civilians living in the coastal areas, who are vulnerable to the attacks.

The governor’s call comes days after unknown fighter jets bombed Afkala-haye locality, near Alula, located near Bossaso, the port town of Somalia’s Puntland state.

Al Shabaab Claims Killing Kenyan Military Officer In Attack
[RADIOSHABELLE] A Kenyan military officer was killed and an unknown number of others injured Monday after an armoured personnel carrier they were travelling in ran over a roadside explosive in Mandera county in the northeast of the country bordering Somalia, a government official said.

Regional government official Mohamud Saleh confirmed the incident at Damasa area in Lafey sub-county which happened at around 11 am.

Saleh said the armored vehicle was being used in the construction of the Kenya-Somalia border security wall. He said the blast happened while the soldiers were on a routine patrol of the mostly non-existent border.

"It’s true the incident happened. I am waiting for brief from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on all the details. An APC ran over an Improvised Explosive Device, killing at least one personnel on board," Saleh said.

He said no arrest has been made so far, adding that more security officers have been mobilized and are pursuing the attackers.

Kenya Blames Lamu Residents For Working With Al Shabaab
[RADIOSHABELLE] Herders who were sent packing from Lamu County by security agencies on suspicion of being Alshabaab murderous Moslems have now pitched camp at the Kipini border of Lamu and Tana River causing residents in the areas sleepless nights.

On August 18,Linda Boni director Joseph Kanyiri ordered all herders to remove their animals from inside the Boni forest in the next 48 hours and that anyone that fails to do so would be considered a terrorist and bombed alongside the forest.

Kanyiri said they want every human being who isn’t part of the operation to move out in order to allow for the bombing of Alshabaab hideouts inside the forest.

He said many of those posing as herders were suspicious, since their activities are closely related to those of the Alshabaab and that it was hard to comprehend how the herders who graze their livestock in the forest claim not to see any attackers or even their hideouts and added that they are probably part of the terror gang.

"The so called herders must give the security an attitude to operate and deal with Alshabaab. They stay in the Boni forest claiming to graze their livestock yet they claim not to see any terror camps or any attackers who flee inside the forest.we want them all out in the next 48 hours," said Kanyiri.

Ten would-be jihadis killed sneaking into Marawi
[Inquirer] Philippine security forces on Monday killed ten militants who were trying to sneak into the battle zone in Marawi City.

Carlito Galvez, commander of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, said that troops were able to intercept pump boats carrying members of the Maute and Abu Sayyaf groups as the terrorists attempted to enter the main battle area through Lake Lanao. He said a gun battle broke out which lasted for three hours. Ten terrorists were killed.

Galvez said, "Pursuit operations immediately ensued between forces of the Joint Task Group Lawa and the fleeing terrorists. At 5 a.m., upon searching the area, troops were able to recover five dead bodies of the enemy, one M16 rifle and one motorized pump boat. One of the pump boats was also seen sinking during the pursuit operation. Patrolling soldiers and policemen are still looking for the dead bodies and sunken boat."

He said the interception came with help from the local governments, adding, "The plan of the terrorists was earlier reported to us, that is why it was easier for patrolling special forces, riverine units and maritime policemen to detect and neutralize the movement."

“Let this be a warning to those who have the intention to escape and to enter—our troops are ready for you. We will definitely get you,” Galvez said.

Suicide bomber kills 5 near US embassy in Kabul
[DAWN] A jacket wallah went kaboom! on a busy shopping street near the heavily-fortified US embassy in central Kabul on Tuesday, killing five people and injuring several others, officials said.

It was the latest in a series of deadly attacks to hit the Afghan capital, and comes around three months after a massive truck bomb destroyed the same area, killing about 150 people.

"At around 10am (local time) a suicide bomber set off his explosives near a private bank and close to Massoud Square. More details later," Najib Danish, a front man for Afghanistan's interior ministry, told AFP.

He added in a message on Twitter that four people had died in the attack.

The blast happened at a time when many officials were expected to be collecting their salaries ahead of this week's Eid holiday.

Joel Osteen said his church is open to Harvey victims after a social media backlash
[CIRCA] Pastor Joel Osteen says his Houston megachurch is not closed to those hurt by Tropical Storm Harvey following social media backlash over its response to the national disaster.

“[We’re] prepared to house people once shelters reach capacity,” he said late Monday, according to ABC News.

“We have never closed our doors,” Osteen added of Lakewood Church. “We will continue to be a distribution center to those in need.”

“Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm in helping our fellow citizens rebuild their lives.”

tl;dr: the church is being dinged for not helping out like they did last time in 2005 with Katrina. Man, deep down those Xtians are really haters, right?

But wait, isn't Lakewood Church in a part of town that floods? (I know, it all floods. but some parts more than others) In fact, if you make it to the end of the article, that's exactly what happened.

Weather nerds will note that Katrina made landfall over by New Orleans and did not hit Houston directly, unlike the present storm. *bleep* social media.

#3  Steve is correct about the flooding along the area where Lakewood meets (formerly The Summit, where the Rockets played). It goes further though; That building itself took significant flooding during both Rita and Ike.
Some people have asked 'why not the Astrodome'?
Simple. The building has been stripped. The Harris County Sports Authority wants to tear it down, but people keep voting to keep it. So they've made it unusable. For instance, eldest son bought at the auction the actual stadium seats he had season tickets for the Astros games. Mancave stuff.

Egypt, Libya foil almost 1000 illegal immigrants
Egypt's navy foils illegal migration attempts by 230 people in August

[AlAhram] Egypt's navy has foiled illegal emigration attempts by 230 individuals over the past two weeks, Egypt's military front man said in a statement on Tuesday.

Spokesman Tamer El-Refai said the navy was able to thwart multiple attempts during the period from 10 to 26 August.

The attempts were made by people of various nationalities, the statement said.

El-Refai also announced the seizure by Egypt's border guards of weapons and ammunition of various types, as well as 3,500 kg of narcotics.

Large numbers of people seek to migrate illegally from Egypt each year, often travelling first to Libya and then onward to Europe across the Mediterranean. Human-trafficking gangs operate from Libya, charging migrants colonists large sums of money to make the perilous journey.

Those seeking to travel to Egypt include both refugees and economic migrants colonists seeking work and better living conditions. Hundreds have been jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
in Egypt for attempting to migrate illegally.

Cairo has increasingly focused on the migration issue in recent years, working with European nations to tackle the problem.

Following a migrant boat disaster in September 2016 that killed hundreds of people, a law was passed criminalizing unauthorized migration and human trafficking.

Libya says boats carrying 700 migrants have been intercepted

[Ynet] Libya's navy says it has intercepted and brought to shore vessels carrying nearly 700 migrants colonists trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe over the past two days.

Navy front man Col. Ayoub Qassem says the coasties of the UN-backed government in Tripoli

on Tuesday intercepted two boats together carrying 290 migrants colonists. A third vessel with 164 on board was intercepted off the coast of Sebratha.

With Italian help, the coasties intercepted a boat with 88 migrants colonists and another one with 134 migrants colonists on Monday.

FBI says lack of public interest in Hillary emails justifies withholding documents
Clearly the FBI has not surveyed Rantburg.
[Wash Times] Hillary Clinton’s case isn’t interesting enough to the public to justify releasing the FBI’s files on her, the bureau said this week in rejecting an open-records request by a lawyer seeking to have the former secretary of state punished for perjury.

Ty Clevenger, the lawyer, has been trying to get Mrs. Clinton and her personal lawyers disbarred for their handling of her official emails during her time as secretary of state. He’s met with resistance among lawyers, and now his request for information from the FBI’s files has been shot down.

"You have not sufficiently demonstrated that the public’s interest in disclosure outweighs personal privacy interests of the subject," FBI records management section chief David M. Hardy told Mr. Clevenger in a letter Monday.

"It is incumbent upon the requester to provide documentation regarding the public’s interest in the operations and activities of the government before records can be processed pursuant to the FOIA," Mr. Hardy wrote.

Mrs. Clinton, is the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, former chief diplomat, former U.S. senator, and former first lady of both the U.S. and Arkansas. Her use of a secret email account to conduct government business while leading the State Department was front-page news for much of 2015 and 2016, and was so striking that the then-FBI director broke with procedure and made both a public statement and appearances before Congress to talk about the bureau’s probe.

In the end, the FBI didn’t recommend charges against Mrs. Clinton, concluding that while she risked national security, she was too technologically inept to know the dangers she was running, so no case could be made against her.

Home Front: WoT
Cops must never stand down against ‘antifa’ thugs
[NYPOST] Many on the left are starting to see the goons of Antifa
...the armed wing of the Democratic Party...
as the menace they are. Too bad the Berkeley, Calif., Police Department remains clueless.

The college town saw a large Rally Against Hate on Sunday, initially planned as a response to a right-wing demonstration that wound up canceled over security concerns.

A few pro-Trumpers and other miscellaneous rightists still turned out to show their flags -- and so did the ninja-wannabes.

Yet when hundreds of masked, armored thugs arrived in quasi-military formation, carrying shields banned under police rules, the cops were ordered to retreat.

Some 400 officers from the Berkeley, Oakland, UC Berkeley and Alameda County forces had been keeping control, confiscating anything that could be used as a weapon.

But when the goons broke through police barricades and checkpoints and started beating and pepper-spraying others, "We made a strategic decision to move our officers," said Berkeley police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats.

As the police left, the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
Chronicle news hound Lizzie Johnson tweeted: "A sea of black masks as far as I can see. This is what WAS NOT supposed to happen."

Berkeley’s police chief, Andrew Greenwood, argued that his orders avoided violence: "The potential use of force became very problematic," and he didn’t see a "need for a confrontation over a grass patch."

Huh? It’s the duty of the police to use force responsibly to protect the peace. Facing a horde bent on violence, cops must protect the law-abiding from the law-breaking.

Instead, at least five people were attacked, while the police wound up arresting 13 for assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing a police officer and other charges.

Oh and here’s another tweet from the Chonicle’s Johnson: " ’Take his camera, take his phone,’ they are shouting at a journalist."

From the Los Angeles Times’ James Queally: "There is a complete mob mentality here. People are randomly accusing random people of being Nazis."

Yemeni officials say ex-president may be under house arrest
[DAWN] Yemen's former president, President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, has not left his Sanaa home for nearly a week, fuelling speculation that his rebel allies have effectively placed him under house arrest, officials said Tuesday.

They spoke four days after differences between the two sides boiled over into festivities in the capital, which left a Saleh aide, Col Khaled al-Rodai, and three rebels dead.

The festivities in central Sanaa were followed by the large-scale deployment of forces by the two sides, keeping tensions high.

Three days of talks on defusing the crisis have failed, according to the security and military officials, who are affiliated with both sides of the rebel alliance.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to brief news hounds.

The Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels are allied with Saleh's forces in a war against Yemen's internationally recognised government and a Saudi-led coalition.

The civil war has killed over 10,000 civilians, displaced 3 million people, and pushed the country to the brink of famine. An outbreak of cholera has killed 2,000 people. The rift within the rebel alliance could further complicate stalled peace efforts.

Gunmen suspected of links to the Houthis on Tuesday beat up Saleh's lawyer and close aide, Mohammed al-Masswary, a vocal critic of the rebels who has frequently accused them of not honouring their part in the alliance.

A statement by Saleh's National Congress party condemned the "criminal" attack.

Saleh and the Houthis have always been unlikely allies.

As president, Saleh had repeatedly gone to war with the Houthis in their northern heartland, but after he stepped down in the wake of Arab Spring protests in 2011 he threw his support behind them.

Security forces loyal to Saleh played a key role in helping the Houthis to sweep down from the north and capture Sanaa in 2014. They later went on to seize much of the country.

The officials said Saleh has not left his home since a tension-fraught celebration by his party in the capital on Thursday.

Sen. Jeff Flake's Poll Numbers Are Only Getting Worse
[Townhall] Matt brought you a recent Morning Consult survey that showed the Arizona Republican trailing his primary challenger, former state Sen. Kelli Ward, by 14 points--but in a new poll released Monday, Ward has widened her lead even more.

According to the JMC Analytics survey, if the Republican primary were held over the weekend Ward would be ahead of Flake by 26 points, 47 percent to 21 percent. Twenty-nine percent of voters were undecided.

Flake’s favorability numbers in the poll aren’t looking great, either. Twenty-two percent of registered voters in the state of Arizona had a favorable opinion of the Republican senator, while 67 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion of him.

Given President Trump's popularity in the state, the poll also asked respondents about how much they factored in the president's opinion of the candidates.

If the president, who has a 76-21% approval rating among Republican likely primary voters, made an endorsement, 56 percent of voters said they would be more likely to support that person.

Trump and Flake have been highly critical of one another, with the president already seeming to throw his support behind Ward in the race.

While not an official endorsement, Trump tweeted that it was "Great to see that Dr. Kelli Ward is running against Flake Jeff Flake, who is WEAK on borders, crime and a non-factor in Senate. He’s toxic!"

Beyond that, a pro-Trump super PAC has also thrown $20,000 into help Ward, according to federal election filings.

Dignity Operation field commander escapes murder attempt
[Libya Observer] Chief of so-called Anti-Terrorism Bureau in Shahhat town in eastern Libya, Hanibal al-Hasi, has survived an liquidation attempt in Kirissah town, 20 km west of Derna.

Dignity Operation sources said al-Hasi was among the forces besieging Derna when gunnies showered his car with bullets and fled away.

Al-Hasi escaped unhurt. The gunnies later randomly fired at a checkpoint for the Anti-Terrorism Bureau in Kirissah in what seems to be a power conflict between Dignity Operation gangs in the town.

The sources added that the gunnies were identified, describing them as an outlaw group.

Government
Tillerson to abolish most special envoys, including climate
There will be a significant savings in salary, benefits, and overhead as a result, I suspect, going some way toward President Trump's goal of cutting government spending.
[DAWN] Most of the United States' special envoys will be abolished and their responsibilities reassigned -- including those for climate change and the Iran deal -- as part of the State Department overhaul, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Congress on Monday.

Special envoys for Afghanistan-Pakistain, disability rights and closing the Guantanamo Bay detention centre will be eliminated under the plan. But President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's administration plans to keep envoys for religious freedom, fighting anti-Semitism and LGBT rights, despite speculation from critics that it would seek to downgrade those priorities.

Lawmakers of both parties, think tanks and even the diplomats' association have long called for absorbing some of the countless US envoys and special representatives into related offices, to help reduce redundancies across the State Department's notoriously unwieldy bureaucracy. But the idea has attracted new scrutiny amid the Trump administration's plans to drastically cut the State Department's budget and concerns that Trump was eschewing the promotion of American values overseas.

China-Japan-Koreas
War between China and India postponed
Google translate as the original text is in Russian.
[Rusvesna] The threat of war between the powers with the population for a total of far beyond 2 billion people has passed.

However, the contradictions between them are growing, and not only at the border, but also in Africa.

Exactly 103 years ago, similar contradictions between the European empires led to a world war.

The long-awaited world
On Monday, China and India withdrew troops from the Plateau Plateau, which remained tense over the past two months. The original cause of the conflict was Beijing's desire to extend the road passing through this area in the Himalayas at the junction of the borders of three states: India, China and Bhutan.

It can not be said that the aggravation of the situation in the Himalayas, both months of the conflict was the number one news on the planet, but taking into account the possession of nuclear weapons by both sides, the interest in it is quite understandable and explainable.

Fortunately, serious collisions were avoided. The case was limited to verbal skirmishes between Indian and Chinese soldiers, which were separated by some 120 meters, and a brawl with the use of improvised tools in the form of stones and sticks, but not weapons.

To resolve the conflict, the parties had to make certain concessions.
A brief statement by the Indian Foreign Ministry states that Delhi reached "understanding" with China and agreed to withdraw troops. In Chinese statements and comments, although it speaks of claims to disputed territories, but does not mention the construction of a road that provoked an aggravation of the conflict.

The Chinese, we recall, were going to build it on the territory that the Kingdom of Bhutan considers its allied India. China also claims this plateau, where the borders of all three states converge. For India, its strategic importance is enormous: Here, along the narrow corridor of Siliguri, its northeastern states communicate with the "mainland" India.

Who won?
Both sides claim to have won. Still, most observers believe that if it were necessary to choose a winner, then China should recognize it, albeit with a slight advantage. India first took a very tough and uncompromising position and first sent troops to the Reports, the area of which is only 85 km².

However, in Delhi, they quickly realized that they overestimated their forces and that it was too early to compete with the Celestial Empire, whose GDP exceeds India's fivefold; moreover, not only economically, but also militarily.

Despite the advantage, China also had good reasons for the speedy end of the conflict. From the tactical can be mentioned, for example, that on September 3 in Syamen the BRICS summit opens, with members of both sides of the conflict in the Himalayas. Naturally, in Beijing they do not want to be called "warmongers". On the contrary, the hosts of the summit want to be considered a peace-loving power, but ready at any time to repulse any encroachment on their sovereignty.

Of course, there are also strategic reasons. Many political scientists believe that it is unprofitable for China to turn Delhi into a mortal enemy and doom itself to decades of the cold war with India, which, incidentally, is developing more dynamically than China. One should not forget that India has better relations with the world's leading powers, mainly with America.

Of course, the economy also played a role. In Beijing, clearly do not want to incur large losses in trade with India in the event of a break in relations. Now India's deficit in trade with China is almost 52 billion dollars. Last year, India exported goods worth $9 billion to China, and imported more than $60 billion in Chinese goods. Of course, the Chinese producers do not want to refuse such money.

The resolution of the conflict does not contain any serious recipe for preventing its recurrence, but Beijing and Delhi seem to have managed to find a way to avoid serious confrontation.

Rohingya Men Fight against Myanmar's Forces, 6000 stranded at Bangla border
[AnNahar] The Rohingya largely eschewed violence despite years of suffocating restrictions and persecution. That dramatically changed last October when a nascent Rohingya bad boy group launched surprise attacks on border posts.

Myanmar's military reacted with a violent "clearance operation" to sweep out the bad boys. The U.N. says that crackdown could have amounted to ethnic cleansing.

Despite the sweeps, violence continued as remote villages were hit by near-daily killings of perceived state collaborators attributed to operatives of the Arakan Rohingya Solidarity Army (ARSA).

The holy warriors struck again on a large scale on Friday, with scores attacking around 30 police posts in pre-dawn raids, killing at least a dozen security force members using knives, homemade explosives and some guns. This time the security response has seen more than 100 people, including some 80 bad boys, confirmed killed and prodded thousands of Rohingya civilians to dash for Bangladesh.

But the country, which already hosts tens of thousands of refugees from the Moslem minority in the Cox's Bazar area, has refused entry to any more. Those unable to sneak in are stranded along the "zero line" border zone, where Bangladeshi officials have noticed a conspicuous absence of men among the civilians crowding the checkposts.

"We asked them what happened to their men. They said they all stayed back to fight," a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) commander told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
- 'Fight or die' -
At the border Rohingya elder Shah Alam, a community leader from Rakhine state, said 30 young men from three villages in his district joined ARSA "for our freedom."

"Do they have any other choice? They chose to fight and die rather than be slaughtered like sheep," he told AFP.

The previously unknown bad boy group has grabbed credit for the attacks in October and more recent strikes against Myanmar's security forces, urging fellow Rohingya to join the fight.

Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi has accused the group of atrocities including using child soldiers, allegations the holy warriors deny.

The government department directly run by Suu Kyi -- the State Counselor’s Office -- has classified the ARSA as "terrorists" and released a flurry of statements and grim pictures of civilians allegedly rubbed out by bad boys.

But ARSA's rallying cry is being answered in Rohingya camps across Bangladesh, despite some doubts over whether their rag-tag units -- seemingly mainly armed with knives and homemade weapons -- can defeat Myanmar troops.

One young rebel told AFP his Rohingya comrades were determined to fight on, despite the odds.

"There are hundreds of us hiding in the hills. We took an oath to save Arakan, even if it is with sticks and small knives," said the rebel, who declined to give his name, near the border in Bangladesh.

Many of those Rohingya displaced by the violence say they barely escaped with their lives. They describe Buddhist mobs and security forces shooting unarmed civilians and burning down homes, an abuse repeatedly documented in Rakhine since the upswing in conflict. For many, it was the final straw.

"Young people are fed up," said one prominent Rohingya activist in Bangladesh who asked to remain anonymous. "They grew up witnessing humiliation and persecution, so the current consensus among the Rohingya community is unless you fight, they're not going to give us any of our rights."

Outside a camp in Cox's Bazar two young Rohingya men were anxious to join the fight, describing it as "farj" -- a religious duty -- to join the "freedom fighters" in Rakhine.

"We don't have any options. Our backs are on the wall. Even the teenagers in our villagers have joined the fight," one of the men told AFP, vowing "to cross the border on the first chance."

At Least 6,000 Rohingya Stranded on Bangladesh Border

[AnNahar] At least 6,000 Rohingya civilians fleeing renewed violence in Myanmar are stranded near the border with Bangladesh which is blocking their entry, a senior Bangladeshi official said Tuesday, as the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
urged Dhaka to assist them.

Bangladesh has blocked thousands of civilians from the stateless Moslem minority from entering the country since Friday, when fresh fighting broke out between Myanmar's security forces and Rohingya holy warriors in neighboring Rakhine state.

The U.N. refugee agency says 3,000 have managed to cross into Bangladesh in the past three days, but the vast majority have been stopped at the border despite heavy fighting in nearby villages.

"Around 6,000 Myanmar nationals have gathered on the border and are trying to enter Bangladesh," a senior Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) official told AFP, referring to the Rohingya.

The official said the situation across the border, which is demarcated in parts by narrow stretches of the Naf River, was "still volatile."

"Last night we heard heavy gunfire by automatic weapons in phases and saw smoke billowing from burnt villages across the border," he said.

Another BGB official estimated the number of Rohingya in limbo could exceed 10,000, as many were believed to be hiding in the hills and forests to escape nearby violence.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Bangladesh to step up assistance to civilians escaping the violence, noting "many of those fleeing are women and kiddies, some of whom are maimed."

But there are already 400,000 Rohingya living in squalid camps in Bangladesh and the government has instructed its border guards to prevent another influx at all costs. Soldiers had detained and returned nearly 500 Rohingya trying to cross the border since Monday, Shariful Islam Jamaddar, a deputy commander of BGB, told AFP.

Bangladesh on Monday proposed joint military operations with Myanmar against Rohingya holy warriors fighting in Rakhine state, hoping to stem the flow of refugees.

Afghanistan
Top Afghan officials allegedly speak with Taliban nearly everyday
[DAWN] Despite seemingly stalled peace talks between Afghanistan's government and the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, officials say the Afghan intelligence chief speaks by telephone with myrmidon leaders nearly every day about the country's constitution and political future.

In addition, Afghanistan's national security adviser has conversations with the Taliban every other month, officials familiar with the efforts said.

The News Agency that Dare Not be Named has seen documents allegedly describing the conversations between the Afghan officials and the Taliban leadership in Pakistain and the Gulf state of Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, where they maintain an office.

While Afghan officials said neither side was ready to agree to public peace talks, the documents allegedly revealed details of the issues discussed, including the Taliban's apparent willingness to accept Afghanistan's constitution and future elections.

A senior Afghan security official, who had taken notes on the details of talks, rifled through a black leather-bound book until he came to a list he called "Taliban talking points".

The Afghan security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to the media, claimed the Taliban wanted certain amendments to the constitution although not immediately.

They also envisioned an Islamic system of governance in Afghanistan, he said.

Among the Taliban's demands, according to the official:

They accepted education for boys and girls at all levels, but wanted segregation by gender.

Women could be employed in all fields, including defence and the judiciary, and they could serve as judges at all levels except the Supreme Court.

The Taliban wanted constitutional guarantees that a woman could not be president.

Special courts should be established to oversee thousands of cases that allege land was taken illegally by the rich and powerful in the post-Taliban era. Many of the land owners are former warlords who are now in the government. The Taliban wants the land returned to those from whom it was taken.

Elections could be held after an interim government is established, with no one affiliated with past governments allowed to serve in the interim administration. The Taliban said all sides could keep areas currently under their control until voting is held.

Awaqir tribal leader Hussein Atia told Alnabaa TV that Sirraj has already appointed Egaim as Deputy Minister of Interior at the request of the tribe. He said Awaqir decided to join Sirraj’s government in Tripoli because Abdullah al-Thanni’s government in east Libya is powerless.

The tribe has now secured two senior positions in the Tripoli government with the first was for al-Mihdi al-Barghati as Minister of Defense.

Faraj Egaim arrived at Benina Airport on Monday (photo below) after a short visit to Tunisia where he had reportedly met with Fayaz Sirraj. Iran dismisses US ‘dream’ of military site inspections
[IsraelTimes] Khamenei’s foreign policy adviser derides ’sloganeering by the new US administration for domestic consumption’

Iran on Tuesday dismissed as "dreams" the idea that it might allow inspections of its military sites under the Islamic republic’s nuclear deal with world powers.

"What has been said about inspections of our military sites, which are completely confidential and classified, is the mere expression of dreams," government front man Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said.

"We will not accept anything outside our frameworks from the Americans -- especially visits to military sites," he told a televised weekly presser.

Ali Akbar Velayati, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s foreign policy adviser, also dismissed "sloganeering by the new US administration for domestic consumption."

Iran "will never allow Americans or non-Americans to visit military sites which are a sensitive, important and strategic part of national security," Velayati told state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
"The Americans should take the dream of visiting our military sites, using the pretext of the JCPOA (the nuclear deal) or any other pretext, to their graves."

The officials were reacting to media reports that Washington’s UN envoy Nikki Haley
...first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
last week discussed with ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency chief Yukiya Amano access to Iranian military sites under the framework of verification of the 2015 nuclear accord.

In its routine reports, the IAEA has said that Iran is in compliance with its landmark agreement with six major powers.

The landmark deal saw Iran curb its atomic activities and submit to closer IAEA inspections in order to make extremely difficult any attempt to make a nuclear weapon.

In exchange, nuclear-related sanctions against Iran were removed.

Other punitive measures by the West, including those relating to Iran’s missile program, remained in place or have been boosted.

Haley’s trip to Vienna, where the IAEA is based, came amid growing concerns about the accord’s future, with US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
calling it the "worst" deal ever and threatening to tear it up.

Tensions have risen between long-time foes Tehran and Washington since Trump entered the Oval Office, with each side accusing the other of not honoring the spirit of the nuclear accord.

President Hassan Rouhani has said that Iran could walk away from the deal within hours, accusing Washington of "constant and repetitive breaking of its promises" under the agreement.

Haley responded that new US sanctions against Iran relate to Iran’s support for "worldwide terrorism" and other behavior, and that Tehran cannot "use the nuclear deal to hold the world hostage."

In October, Trump is due to notify Congress about whether Iran is adhering to the deal.

Two terror suspects gunned down in Kyrgyzstan, two more killed in Dagestan
[RFE/RL] Officials in Kyrgyzstan say security forces have killed two militant suspects in a gunbattle in the northern Chui region. The State Committee for National Security (UKMK) said the exchange of gunfire occurred in the Jaiyl district on August 29.

According to the UKMK, security forces opened fire after three suspected members of a terrorist group who were holed up in a house refused to surrender. It said two of the suspects were killed and the third one was wounded and captured.

Authorities began searching for the suspects on August 24 after two men threatened a police patrol with a gun and grenade in the capital, Bishkek. the UKMK said a fourth member of the same group was detained in Bishkek and that investigators found a gun and ammunition in the suspect's home.

jihadist group, but could not confirm the Dagestan incident was a terrorist attack.

IS has claimed a number of attacks on police in Dagestan in the last couple of years that have involved guns and explosives.

The Rossiya 24 news hound quoted law enforcement sources as saying that one of the attackers had a black jihadist banner in his rucksack.

An unidentified source also told the state TASS news agency that Sherlocks found two knives and items with the IS logo.

The regional health ministry spokeswoman said the injured policeman also suffered gunshot wounds. But his life was not at risk, TASS reported.

An investigation has been opened over the policeman's murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life in jail, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Salafist tough guys from Dagestan, which lies immediately east of Chechnya, are known to have traveled to join IS. In 2015, the group declared it had established a "franchise" in the North Caucasus.

“The security forces also seized a motorbike and some weapons from the insurgents,” he said.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the attack.

2 die in bombings in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Two civilians were killed, while seven others were wounded as three blasts occurred at several regions in the capital Baghdad, a police source said on Tuesday.

“A bomb, placed near a sheep market in Suwaib region in south Baghdad, exploded in the morning leaving two civilians killed and three others wounded,” the source told AlSumaria News.

“Another IED exploded in al-Shaab region in northern Baghdad, which left a citizen injured,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.

“Three others were wounded as a third bomb blast occurred near stores in al-Zidan region in Abu Ghraib region, west of Baghdad,” the source added.

On Monday, Islamic State claimed responsibility for a blast that hit eastern Baghdad on the day, killing and injuring thirteen civilians. Another blast occurred as an IED exploded on Monday at al-Yusufiya region, in south of Baghdad, killing four and injuring eight.

Several explosions occurred in Baghdad earlier this week. Three civilians were killed and injured as an IED went off on Sunday at an area southwest of Baghdad. This came a few hours after two car bombings rocked two areas also southwest of Baghdad, killing and wounding eight people.

Offices of six NGOs sealed in Shangla
[DAWN] The local administration on Monday sealed the offices of six non-government organizations for not having obtained no-objection-certificates to work in the Shangla district.

Deputy Commissioner Abdul Kabir Khan accompanied by Assistant Commissioner, Alpuri, Tariq Mehmood and a police contingent sealed the NGOs’ offices. Kabir Khan told mediapersons on the occasion that the action was taken on the special directives of the provincial government. He said the NGOs had been directed to provide NOCs, but they failed to do so.

The NGOs include Community World Service Asia, Pakistain Mission Society, Help in Need, Lassoona, Nida-Pakistain and ISWDO. The deputy commissioner said offices of NGOs operating without NOCs would be sealed.

VIDEO: Rebels use tanks, cannons, mortars to fight ISIS in south Daraa
[AlMasdar] Yesterday the rebels of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) launched an offensive against the ISIS-linked Saifullah al-Maslul bully boy group in southwestern Daraa Governorate.

The offensive, launched by the FSA’s Southern Front grouping, targeted ISIS positions in the Yarmouk Basin area ‐ a place where the rebels have attempted to advance before.

Footage captured by the SMAART news agency (below) shows the FSA employing battle tanks, Toyota pickups armed with 23-mm auto-cannons and 81-mm medium mortars during the opening phase of the offensive.

In the event, the offensive lasted about four hours and resulted in rather high losses among FSA ranks with ISIS successful repelling all attempts by Southern Front forces to break through its lines.

Some pro-rebel sources report that firefights continue in the area of Jalin (a town in the Yarmouk Basin that is currently under ISIS occupation).

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Jordan border crossing with Iraq to reopen in major boost to ties
[AlAhram] Jordan will open its main border crossing with Iraq on Wednesday for the first time since 2015 now that Iraqi forces have gained control of the main highway to Baghdad from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group myrmidons, officials said on Tuesday.

Iraqi troops pulled out of the Tureibil post, on the 180 km (110 mile) border, in the summer of 2014 after the Lions of Islam secured nearly all the official crossings of the western frontier as they swept through a third of the country.

Commercial traffic continued for a year after until Iraq launched an offensive in July 2015 to reclaim the area and deprive the Lions of Islam of funds raised from truck drivers forced to pay a tax on cargo coming in from Jordan.

Officials say customs and border arrangements have been finalised, with security measures in place to ensure the 550 km highway from the border to Baghdad was safe.

"The opening of the crossing is of great importance to Jordan and Iraq ... It's a crucial artery. Jordan and Iraq have been discussing reopening it for a while," Interior Minister Ghaleb al Zubi said last week.

Zubi did not give date then, but several trade and business officials have said they have been invited to an event on Wednesday to mark the re-opening.

Since last year, the Iraqi army has regained most of the mainly Sunni Moslem Anbar province's main towns that fell to the ultra-hardline jihadist group.

Iraq has also been working on securing the highway which connects Iraq's Basra port in the south to Jordan, where the Red Sea port of Aqaba has long served as a gateway for Iraqi imports coming from Europe.

Jordan hopes the reopening of the route will revive exports to Iraq, once the kingdom's main export market, accounting that accounted for almost a fifth of domestic exports or about $1.2 billion a year, according to the International Monetary Fund.

They have fallen by more than 50 percent from pre-crisis levels.

"This will increase industrial exports and also revive the two countries' trucking industry. It's a major boost to the economy," Nael Husami, general manager of the Amman Chamber of Industry, adding transport costs would fall by nearly half.

Jordanian exporters have had to use more expensive sea routes to Iraq's Um Qasr port or another land route across Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and Kuwait, businessmen say.

The restoration of trade links will also give a push to an oil pipeline project running from Basra to Aqaba. Prime Minister Hani al Mulki had visited Baghdad earlier this year to revive the frozen project.

Jordanian officials are hopeful the crossing with Syria on its northern border can also open by the end of the year once a U.S.-Russian de-escalation zone in southwest Syria that includes the area is cemented.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
It Only Took A Day For The March To DC To Lose Nearly All Of The Marchers
[DAILYCALLER] The March to DC from Charlottesville, Va., started with nearly 200 marchers Monday, but by Tuesday morning there were only 35 marchers.

“Over 200 people came together today to take a stand against bigotry and hate,” march organizers said on Twitter. “We’re marching from #Cville2DC. Join us: cville2dc.us.”

The overnight rains were enough to keep all but “about 35” from marching Monday morning, the day after the pep talk when police escorted the group from Emancipation Park downtown Sunday.

“We have started the day!” the group tweeted shortly after 10:00am. “We have about 35 folks marching against white supremacy.”

Despite the drastic decrease in numbers, the group still declared a victory, saying “not rain nor sleet nor snow nor hail will stop us from marching from #Cville2DC.

The march was planned as a direct response to the “Unite the Right” rally held earlier this month in which protesters and white supremacists clashed, resulting in 19 injured and one dead in the violence that followed.

“This is the time to confront white supremacy in our government and throughout our history,” the group says on its website about the march. “We demand that President Trump be removed from office for allying himself with this ideology of hate and we demand an agenda that repairs the damage it’s done to our country and its people.”

#6  It's roughly 115 miles from Charlottesville to downtown DC. They scheduled 10 days to make their journey.

I remember Meade noted that the 6th corps marched approximately 32 miles overnight to get to Gettysburg. Jackson's 'Foot Cavalry' usually marched 25-35 miles in a day.

A 'leisurely' march for most units was around 15 miles per day.

With gear.

And undeveloped roads and/or trails.

But there were no Starbuck's.
