Boston Globe Reveals Liz Warren's Christian Faith
I learned this at a very early age from reading the Manchester Union Leader and the Boston Globe side by side for a few years - how are these bastards lying to me now?
Religion is constant part of Elizabeth Warren’s life

When Senator Elizabeth Warren last week visited the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta ‐ religious home to the heirs and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. ‐ the liberal firebrand began her remarks in a familiar vein, decrying an economy that only works "for a thin slice at the top."

It might have been just another political stop, a timely bit of outreach to the African-American voters who could be key should she run for president.

But then Warren shifted her focus to Matthew 25:40 ‐ and Jesus.

"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me," Warren said, quoting the Gospel. Then she shared her interpretation: "He’s saying to us, first, there’s God in every one of us,there’s Jesus in every one of us ‐ however you see it in your religion, that inside there’s something holy in every single person."

It Wasn't Comey's Decision to Exonerate Hillary – It Was Obama's
[National Review] The thing to understand, what has always been the most important thing to understand, is that Jim Comey was out in front, but he was not calling the shots.

On the right, the commentariat is in full-throttle outrage over the revelation that former FBI Director Comey began drafting his statement exonerating Hillary Clinton in April 2016 ‐ more than two months before he delivered the statement at his now famous July 5 press conference.

The news appears in a letter written to new FBI Director Christopher Wray by two senior Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans, Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senator Lindsey Graham.

Pundits and the Trump administration are shrieking because this indicates the decision to give the Democrats’ nominee a pass was clearly made long before the investigation was over, and even long before key witnesses, including Clinton herself, were interviewed.

#2  Soetoro didn't want that FBI/DoJ email decoder ring to discover his own clandestine communications, and still doesn't. You take a look at the Beest's 30,000 (+ or -) email, you're likely find a whole host of surprises.

Comey was too cock sure of himself not to have been 'backstopped.' Just my take on that evil bastid.

One set of rules for them, one set for us.

#3  With the time Soetoro had left on the clock, he only had two choices:

1. Do nothing and permit the investigation take it's course to an indictment and be blamed for her demise as well as have his dique rubbed in the dirt.

2. End the investigation using his FBI Director and her old friend, confidant, and bag man James Comey. My guess is (and only a guess), Soetoro used Slick Willie and events at Sky Harbor Airport as a convenient cutout. Under (very improbable) testimony, Soetoro could correctly say 'he never discussed the Clinton issue with Lynch.'

He chose door #2.

Don't Tread on Melania Trump's Stilettos!
[American Spectator] On Saturday she sported an even deadlier pair.

Of all the hysterias to grip the Twitterverse in recent weeks, the recent frenzy regarding Melania Trump’s choice of footwear while heading off to the hurricane relief zone in Texas has to be tops. You see, Mrs. Trump was wearing a pair of black stilettos and, it seems, for those determined to hate everything Trump, this ‐ and not the devastation of the storm ‐ is beyond all suffering. When Mrs. Trump boarded Air Force One today she once again wore stilettos ‐ snakeskin ones at that ‐ which sent a clear message that her critics should not tread on her shoes.

For the fashion challenged, the definition of a stiletto heel is a long, thin, high heel found on some boots and shoes, usually for women. They were so named for their remarkable resemblance to the stiletto dagger.

Coco Chanel once said, "A women in good shoes is never ugly." Melania, once part of the New York runway set brings high fashion standards to the political runway of Washington, D.C. And why not? Like her husband, she understands the importance of the images that archive her every step; that they convey something about her and her position. The New York Times, however, mistakenly asserts that Melania Trump’s past life experiences as a mother, an immigrant, fashion model and entrepreneur "don’t readily translate" to the White House.

Africa Subsaharan
Why don't many British tourists visit Victoria Falls?
[BBC] In August 1934, a memorial statue to one of Britain's greatest national heroes, David Livingstone, was unveiled alongside his beloved Victoria Falls.

A thousand people attended the grand ceremony, including British government dignitaries and hundreds of Africans, some of whom had travelled for days to honour him.

Fully 60 years after the explorer's death, Livingstone's almost mythical status was undiminished.

A Christian missionary who risked his life many times to expose - and ultimately end - the evils of the East African slave trade, he introduced the world to one of its natural wonders, and was the first person ever to walk across Africa from coast to coast, exploring and mapping the geography of the "dark continent".
The classic BBC white wash and denial goes on and on, conveniently failing to mention betrayal of the Smith Government and their own people, nor the handing of the country and the region over to communist tyrants.

#2  White minority rule could never be sustained. UK could not continue to support Smith even though Mugabe was/is a SOB.

Appears to be something akin to our very own "White" MAJORITY rule, which is currently under attack. Sort of begs the question, does it not ?

But I do agree it is quite difficult to "sustain" the effort when faced with onerous western sanctions, universal condemnation, and an opposition fully armed and supported by the communist block.

Britain
A wee forearm smash
h/t Instapundit
It’s 10 years since I found myself in the middle of the Glasgow Airport terror attack. It was 30 June 2007. I was at the airport, picking up my brother, sister-in-law and niece from holiday. As I walked through the terminal, I noticed people being ushered out the way I’d come in. I wasn’t sure what was going on ‐ there was no panic ‐ but I thought that if something had happened, I wasn’t leaving without my family.

I carried on walking in the opposite direction to everyone else. By the time I got to the doors at the other end, I was on my own. I walked outside, and that’s when I saw a burning jeep crashed into the building. There was a guy lying next to it engulfed in flames, a couple of police officers, and parts of the road were on fire, too.

At first, I thought it had been an accident. A police officer used a fire extinguisher on the burning guy, then they turned away. I thought he was dead, and maybe they did, too. It was when he got up that I realised he was an attacker. It was eerie ‐ he didn’t even groan as he stood; it was as if being on fire hadn’t affected him. I learned later he was on morphine.

He tried to get to the jeep’s boot ‐ apparently, it was full of petrol bombs. The police were trying to stop him, but he kept kicking at their legs. As they fought, they moved towards me. One of the officers used pepper spray, and my eyes were streaming. The next time I opened them, this lunatic was coming in my direction.

When you’re involved in something like that, it’s hard to remember afterwards exactly how it went. You just act on instinct. My partner, Gillian, had recently passed away, after battling cancer. I had watched her fight like hell to survive, and these characters were trying to take people’s lives as if they meant nothing. It enraged me, as did having pepper spray in my eyes, to be honest. So I went for him.

As soon as I hit him, I knew that he was going down. I don’t mean to sound blasé. He’d been doing these commando-style moves to fight off the police, and he seemed well trained, but I grew up in Glasgow: it seemed natural to me that a wee forearm smash would sort it out

...I got a couple of awards, including the Queen’s Gallantry Medal. I met the prime minister, Gordon Brown, too. He said, "Thanks for everything." I said, "Nae problem."

Probably the biggest buzz came a few months later. I saw a horse called Secret Hero. I was looking at the name, thinking I’d seen it before, and I remembered that’s what the Daily Record had called me in a headline. I stuck £125 on it, it won and I took home £500. It felt like a nice ending.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea Says It Tested a Hydrogen Bomb Meant for Missiles
[NYTIMES] North Korea carried out its sixth and most powerful nuclear test early Sunday in an extraordinary show of defiance against President Trump, who responded by declaring the country "hostile and dangerous to the United States" and criticizing an American ally, South Korea, for "talk of appeasement."

The underground blast, which caused tremors that were felt in both South Korea and China, was the first by the North to clearly surpass the destructive power of the bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II.

The government said it had tested a hydrogen bomb that could be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile, and hours before the detonation, it released photographs of its leader, Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
, examining what it said was the new weapon.

Hydrogen bombs are vastly more powerful than ordinary atomic weapons, and though some analysts were skeptical of the North’s claim, the early analysis indicated the device caused a blast that was roughly four times more powerful than anything the North has detonated before.

#11  This afternoon I noticed North Korea is sending coded messages through the North Korean News Agency Twitter account in English. Continued phsycological warfare.

This is at this point phsycological war fare that the US is not winning because we are just talking, Kim is puting actual leathal military assets into action demonstrating tremendously dangerous capabilities. He is not talking. He is Doing.

The U S can do likewise if it would just do it. Very low high speed stealth raptor fly overs of known Kim and upper mil locations, command centers in the middle of the night is the same thing to them as Kim lainching unexpected missiles over Japan. Constant B52 high altitude sonic booms over Pongyang. The steady dripping of actual phsycological induced dread by the US in this manner can effectively counter the steady dripping of dread campaign Kim is using against his neighbors.

Play his close call action game better than him.

Time for a Full Investigation... of the FBI over Hildebeest transcripts
BLUF:
[PJ Media] Something must be done and quickly. The latest revelations about Comey make the recusal of Mueller more urgent, but the overall situation is yet more severe. The FBI itself needs some form of investigation and reorganization. A true reform. Otherwise a huge percentage of the country will continue to distrust it and that distrust, pending the results of the closely tied Mueller-Russia inquiry, will only continue to grow. That is untenable in a democratic republic.

Failing that, we might as well rename the FBI as the GDS -- the Guardians of the Deep State.

Standoff brews between Senate, FBI over Trump dossier
[Washington Examiner] Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Charles Grassley and the committee's ranking Democrat, Dianne Feinstein, want to interview two high-ranking FBI officials about some key aspects of the bureau's role in the Trump-Russia investigation -- the Trump dossier, the firing of James Comey, and more. But the FBI doesn't want those officials to talk -- even though the Judiciary Committee has oversight responsibility for the FBI, and even though the request is bipartisan, and even though there appears to be no conflict with the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation conducted by special prosecutor Robert Mueller.

A standoff could be developing.

It began on July 11, when Grassley and Feinstein wrote letters to James Rybicki, who was Director Comey's chief of staff, and Carl Ghattas, head of the bureau's national security branch. "The committee is investigating the removal of FBI Director James Comey, Russian interference in the 2016 election, and allegations of improper interference in law enforcement investigations," the chairman and ranking member wrote. "Please make yourself available for a transcribed interview during the week of July 24, 2017."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Public Sector Unions Are Beginning To Panic
[Hot Air] Those who follow labor union issues likely remember the disappointing conclusion in March of 2016 to the case of Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association. Friedrichs had sought to stop the mandatory "contribution" of dues out of the paychecks of teachers who either did not belong to the teachers union or did not support their political positions. With the death of Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court split 4-4 on the case an allowed the unfair practice to continue.

Now, as John Hinderaker reports at Powerline, another case is making its way before the court and it’s dealing with the same set of issues. Janus v. American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Council 31 is expected to be heard by the Supremes and this time Neil Gorsuch is on the case and the unions are bracing for defeat. If the practice of mandatory dues (which is actually much closer to extortion than anything else) is shot down, unions around the country will be in for some hard times.

BRSC spokesman Mohamed Bakr arrested in Misrata
Sources in Misrata have confirmed the arrest of the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shura Council (BRSC) spokesman, Mohamed Bakr, known as The Bee (Al-Nahla). He is being interrogated by the city’s counter crime agency, they said.

The BRSC and its offshoot the Benghazi Defence Brigades, which consists of mainly BRSC members who had managed to flee Libya’s second city and regroup in Tripoli, had previously been allied to Misratan forces and were operating out of Jufra airbase. However, in June, following the Brak Al-Shatti massacre in which the BDB was said to have ben involved, civil and military leaders in Misrata broke with it. They ordered it to disband, surrender its weapons and hand over its leader Mustafa Al-Sharksi.

Prior to his arrest, Bakr was last seen in Jufra with a number of Chadian fighters said to be collaborating both with the BDB and the so-called Islamic State.

Bakr’s arrest follows that in Misrata of Usama Jadhran, the Islamist brother of the man who held Libya’s petroleum exports to ransom, Ibrahim Jadhran.

A member of the Ajdabiya Revolutionaries’ Shura Council which was reported to have pledged allegiance to the so-called Islamic State, Usama was arrested at Misrata airport last month while trying to catch a flight to Istanbul. He is said to have subsequently admitted working with the BDB and other militant groups operating in Libya.

Broken code
I was working on the posters' code last night, trying to clean things up. In the process of putting things the way they should be, vice the sloppy, off-the-cuff manner they initially went in, I broke things. Post Your Own Article should be fixed now -- let me know if it's not.

Most of the other fixes will affect mods, so I'll try and get them done in the course of the day. I am very sorry for the inconvenience. It seems like things break mostly when I go to fix them.

Things To Know About Refugees And Asylum In Germany
[DW] 2016 was record year for asylum applications
When hundreds of thousands of refugees arrived in the autumn of 2015 they didn't all apply for asylum at once. Because there was already a long backlog with the immigration authorities, many waited until 2016.

That meant that last year smashed the record for asylum requests - 745,545 applications were lodged during the course of the year. 2015 was the second highest number of applications in German history, with 476,649 being made. In the first six months of 2017 the numbers have fallen off sharply to 128,903.

Refugee, who are you?
2 September
[DW] German authorities now have the legal right to analyze asylum seekers' smartphone data as a means of determining their identity and country of origin. It is a step long past due.

Accessing smartphone data is just one of several steps in the right direction. By using this data, together with other measures such as electronic speech and dialect analysis, authorities are now much better able to ascertain an asylum seeker's identity in cases of doubt. However, all of this comes two years too late.

About 60 percent of refugees arrive in Germany without identity papers, according to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF). Many say their papers were lost or stolen during their journey. Yet astoundingly, most have smartphones, which can be easily used to capture and store documents.

Majority of Germans oppose refugees reuniting with their families, survey finds
30 August
[TheLocal.de] A survey commissioned by Bild newspaper published on Tuesday reveals that the majority of Germans reject the idea of refugees legally reuniting with their families in Germany. Over 58 percent of interviewees rejected the notion of refugee family reunification whereas around 42 percent supported it, the survey showed.

Another finding in the survey revealed that significantly more women (62.1 percent) than men (54.5 percent), more east Germans (66.8 per cent) than west Germans (56.5 percent) and more middle-aged respondents (69.2 per cent) than youthful respondents (49.1 per cent) rejected family reunion amongst refugees.

People granted full asylum have a right to reunite with their close family as stipulated by the Geneva Convention. According to the Bild report, there has been an increase in the number of family reunion visas Germany has issued in recent years. From January 2015 to the end of June 2017, around 230,000 requests for this visa were granted.

Nonetheless, many asylum seekers in Germany are only granted subsidiary protection, a secondary form of asylum which offers fewer rights. Even Syrians are by and large only offered subsidiary protection, unless they can show that they as an individual face persecution in their homeland. In March 2016 the German government decided to delay decisions on family reunification for people offered subsidiary protection until March 2018.

Almost 60 Syrian militia fighters entered Germany as refugees, Der Spiegel reports
[DW] A German magazine has revealed that dozens of fighters from a Syrian militia group have sought asylum in Germany. A special task force has reportedly been set up to deal with the fighters.

Almost 60 former fighters from a Syrian militia group linked to al Qaeda came to Germany posing as refugees, German news weekly Der Spiegel reported on Saturday.

The former fighters are thought to have been members of the Owais al-Qorani Brigade and to have fought on various sides of the Syrian war.

Spiegel reports the group began the war on the side of the rebel Free Syrian Army before switching to the al Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front.

Al-Nusra Front ostensibly split from al Qaeda in July 2016, but both the US and Russia dispute this rebranding.

The Owais al-Qorani Brigade has also been accused of once being an affiliate of the so-called "Islamic State" in northern Syria, before IS turned on the group after a prison escape.

'Numerous massacres'
The Spiegel report, citing security agencies, said the group's members had participated in "numerous massacres of captured civilians and Syrian soldiers." At least 300 people were killed in such massacres.

German security agencies have reportedly set up a special task force to investigate the group's members in Germany.

Some 25 former fighters are being investigated, but another 30 unconfirmed members are believed to be in the country, the magazine reported.

One of the members mentioned by Spiegel is a former commander who arrived in the northern German city of Bremen in 2014. He allegedly took part in a massacre at a garbage dump that killed 36 policemen, administrative workers and military officials, and included beheadings.

"By God," the man reportedly said to a friend on WhatsApp, "they remembered details that I had forgotten myself," he wrote, referring to compatriots he met up with in Germany.

The man is to come before a court at the end of September.

N. Korea could nuke US, Europe ‘within months’: France
[DAWN] France’s foreign minister warned on Friday that North Korea could have the capacity to deliver a nuclear strike on the United States and even Europe “within months”.

Jean-Yves Le Drian called the situation following a string of missile tests by Pyongyang “extremely serious” and urged the reclusive state to turn to dialogue to ease spiralling tensions.

“We see a North Korea whose objective is to have missiles capable of transporting a nuclear weapon tomorrow,” Le Drian told RTL radio.

“In a few months, that will be a reality. At that moment, when it has the capability to hit the US, even Europe and at the very least Japan and China, with a nuclear weapon, the situation will be explosive.”

Early on Tuesday, North Korea fired an intermediate-range Hwasong-12 over Japan, prompting US President Donald Trump to say that “all options” were on the table in an implied threat of pre-emptive military action.

Germany rejects Turkey’s asset freeze request
[Iran Press TV] A high-circulation German magazine has reported that authorities in Berlin have turned down a request by Ankara for imposing financial restrictions on those believed to have played a role in last year's coup attempt in Turkey.

Der Spiegel said on Saturday, without naming its sources, that in June the German Foreign Ministry officially refused to freeze the assets of members of the network of Fethullah Gulen, a US-based cleric who is accused by the government in Ankara of masterminding the abortive coup of July 15, 2016.

Turkey had submitted the request and a list of 80 names in April, demanding that Berlin exclude them from Germany’s financial system.

German authorities, however, responded by saying that there were no legal grounds for financial watchdog BaFin to crack down on the Gulen movement and its supporters, said Der Spiegel.

Germany’s Foreign Ministry has yet to comment on the report, which also claimed that extradition requests sent from Turkey to Germany had increased his year. It said 56 such requests had been submitted this year, already exceeding the total number in 2016.

Indonesians clash with police amid demonstration in support of Myanmar’s Rohingya
[Iran Press TV] Dozens of demonstrators from all walks of life have scuffled with police in Indonesia during a protest rally in solidarity with Myanmar’s prosecuted Rohingya Muslims and against its government’s clampdown on the desperate minority.

Protesters marched on the Myanmar Embassy in the capital Jakarta on Saturday and finally convened in front of the diplomatic mission, shouting slogans in support of Rohingya Muslims.

They also chanted, “Save Muslim Rohingya” and “Expel the Ambassador of Myanmar” and shouted slogans against the government of Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's state counselor, strongly calling on the Southeast Asian country to put an end to violence against the minority.

Angry demonstrators, most of them from the Community of Professional Care for Rohingya, also stepped on posters of Suu Kyi, which was labeled, “The Inhuman Lady,” before setting them on fire.

Scuffles broke out when police stopped protesters from getting closer to the embassy. The blockade, however, did not end in a riot.

“What the Myanmar government has done is beyond the limits of humanity,” said coordinator Irfan Gani, adding, “We urge the government to recall the Indonesian ambassador to Myanmar, which is a form of our resistance showing that Indonesia does not approve of human rights violations.”

Hezbollah slams US over IS convoy stranded in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Lebanese terror group says the trapped Islamic State group includes families, the elderly and ill

Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement on Saturday accused US-led forces of stranding a convoy of Islamic State fighters and civilians headed for Syria’s Deir Ezzor province under an evacuation deal.

The convoy carrying hundreds of IS fighters as well as civilians was meant to travel from the Lebanon-Syria border to jihadist-held territory in eastern Syria under a deal Hezbollah helped broker.

But the US-led coalition has pounded the road to Deir Ezzor with air strikes to prevent the convoy reaching the IS-held town of Albukamal on the Iraqi border.

Hezbollah, which has defended the deal to remove IS fighters from the Lebanese frontier, said US-led forces had effectively stranded most of the convoy’s 17 buses in the Syrian desert, beyond government reach.

“They are also preventing anyone from reaching them even to provide humanitarian assistance to families, the sick and wounded and the elderly,” the Hezbollah statement said.

The convoy left the Lebanon-Syria border region on Monday, but Hezbollah said six of the buses remained in Syrian government-held territory.

The deal, brokered by Hezbollah with the support of its Syrian regime ally after a week-long offensive against IS, has been fiercely criticised by US-led forces and the Iraqi government.

The international coalition fighting IS has said it is unacceptable for jihadists to be transported to the border with Iraq, where pro-government forces this week ousted the extremist group from the northern city of Tal Afar.

In a statement overnight, the coalition said it had sent a message to Damascus through Syria’s ally Russia to say that “the Coalition will not condone IS fighters moving further east to the Iraqi border.”

“The Coalition values human life and has offered suggestions on a course of action to save the women and children from any further suffering as a result of the Syrian regime’s agreement,” it added, without providing further details.

The coalition said it would not strike the convoy, but acknowledged hitting IS fighters and vehicles “seeking to facilitate the movement of IS fighters to the border area of our Iraqi partners.”

Hezbollah accused US forces of hypocrisy, saying they had previously allowed IS fighters to flee territories in Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has described the deal as “unacceptable” and an “insult to the Iraqi people”.

In Lebanon some criticised it for allowing fighters suspected of killing Lebanese citizens to escape on “air-conditioned buses.”

Deir Ezzor in Syria’s east is one of the jihadists’ last remaining strongholds, where they hold most of the province and parts of its capital of the same name.

North Korea’s latest missile launch stirs discussion of pre-emptive strikes in Japan
[SCMP] Japan is debating whether to develop a limited pre-emptive strike capability and buy cruise missiles – ideas that were anathema in the pacifist country before the North Korea missile threat. With revisions to Japan’s defence plans under way, ruling party hawks are accelerating the moves, and some defence experts say Japan should at least consider them.

After being on the back burner in the ruling party for decades, a possibility of pre-emptive strike was formally proposed to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe by his party’s missile defence panel in March, prompting parliamentary debate, though somewhat lost steam as Abe apparently avoided the divisive topic after seeing support ratings for his scandal-laden government plunge.

North Korea’s test-firing on Tuesday of a missile, which flew over Japan and landed in the northern Pacific Ocean, has intensified fear and reignited the debate.

“Should we possess pre-emptive strike capability?” liberal-leaning Mainichi newspaper asked the following day. “But isn’t it too reckless to jump to discuss a ‘get them before they get you’ approach?”

#4  When one NKorean person insults NKorean government, that person and three generations of that person are sent to death camps. People of higher stature are killed in horrific ways. So the people are completely conquered in NKorea.

Dear leader of NKorea loves the most horrific means of inflicting death and he should not be underestimated at what he will do. The more the world threatens him the more he threatens the world.

He pays close attention to US news. A few weeks ago it was said in the US news that the US had him in there cross hairs at a missile launch because he was in the open. Ever since, he has been under canopies during launches.

He will screw up, the world needs to keep him under pressure until he does give the world an opportunity to finish this.

Syrian Army makes huge advance towards Deir Ezzor, 25km to lift siege
[AlMasdar] Saturday evening the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), alongside their allies from Liwaa Fatemiyoun, scored a major advance in the eastern region of Syria after launching a big attack earlier in the day.

Led by the Tiger Forces and 5th Legion, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the large hilltop of Tal Al-Abd and the nearby Al-Hera area near the northwestern border of Deir Ezzor.

According to a military source, the Syrian Arab Army advanced from the strategic Jabal Bishiri area towards Tal Al-Abd, overrunning the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions in the process.

At the same time, another Syrian Army unit pushing from Jabal Bishiri stormed Jabal Nazerat, Jabal Nairaman, and Jabal Admah; these sites were all liberated near the Deir-Ezzor-Sukhnah Highway.

The Syrian Arab Army is now 16 km away from Al-Shoula village and only 25 km away from lifting the siege on Deir Ezzor City.

Syrian Army blows past ISIL’s lines to advance towards Deir Ezzor

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their large-scale offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s western countryside, striking the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions along the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway.

Led by the Tiger Forces and 5th Legion, the Syrian Arab Army attacked the Islamic State”s positions east of recently liberated Harabishah.

This attack would prove successful as the Syrian Arab Army was able to advance approximately 5km east of Harabishah, putting them in position to strike the key town of Kabbajb.

According to a military source in Palmyra, the Syrian Arab Army is now only 15km west of Kabbajb, which is the Islamic State’s main stronghold along the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway.

Kabbajb is located only 40km away from Deir Ezzor City and considered a main supply hub for the Islamic State in the Syrian Desert.

Iraq
Turkey stresses importance of control of Tal Afar by local and legitimate Iraqi forces
[Hurriyet Daily News] Turkey underlined the importance of bringing Tal Afar under the control of local people and the Iraqi army, not Shia militias, following the liberation of the city from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

“We welcome the successful completion of the military operation started on Aug. 20, 2017 for the liberation of Tal Afar, populated densely by our Turkmen brothers and sisters in Iraq throughout history and which has been under the occupation of Daesh [the Arabic acronym for ISIL] since June 2014,” said a statement from the Foreign Ministry on Aug. 31.

The ministry emphasized that Turkey, which had opened its gates to tens of thousands of people from Tal Afar fleeing from ISIL, will now stand with them in the post-ISIL period as well.

In the upcoming period, the people responsible for the cruel acts by ISIL must be brought to justice and sentenced with legitimate punishment, said the statement.

The ministry stressed security should be maintained by legitimate Iraqi security forces and the people of Tal Afar instead of “militia groups acting according to their own agenda.”

Negative circumstances that have led to the emergence of radical groups such as ISIL, should be avoided, the ministry added.

We are not alone against polarization: CHP head Kılıçdaroğlu
[Hurriyet Daily News] The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) is “not alone against the government’s understanding that polarizes society and constrains citizens in an ‘us vs. them’ dilemma,” CHP head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said.

“We saw in the ‘Justice March’ and the ‘Justice Congress’ that millions of us can meet under the umbrella of the concept of justice, which is the essence of all sacred religions,” Kılıçdaroğlu said in a message marking Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

He visited jailed CHP deputy Enis Berberoğlu in prison in Istanbul on Sept. 1, the first day of Eid al-Adha.

“If the judiciary makes decisions by order from certain authorities, there is no justice in that country and no one can have security of life or property,” Kılıçdaroğlu told reporters during the prison visit.

The CHP leader said the arrest of MPs is a “democratic shame” and his party “could not accept it.”

He said Berberoğlu’s spirits remain high and he is engaging in a “struggle for democracy,” noting that by jailing an elected lawmaker the “national will” was put in prison.

The CHP will carry on the struggle to bring about “real justice, law and rights” to Turkey, Kılıçdaroğlu vowed.

Former Oberlin College professor faces federal charges

...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ...
, where he is executive director.

Robert Roche, 70, of Cleveland, is charged in the U.S. District of Northern Ohio with multiple counts of conspiracy and theft of government funds.

"Mr. Roche took tens of thousands of dollars earmarked for Native American children and families and put the money in his own pockets," said U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman in a news release.

Roche, who was an instructor of American Indian History at Oberlin College in 2005-06, was a proponent of getting rid of the "Indians" name and Native American logo at Oberlin Schools in 2006. He also has said the Cleveland Indians’ Chief Wahoo mascot is racist, according to an News Agency that Dare Not be Named story.

He spoke at an Oberlin Council meeting in June on behalf of his organization in favor of changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.

According to the indictment, Roche worked with Craig McGuire of McGuire & Associates to embezzle grant money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Native Americans. The money was meant to provide Native American communities with the tools and resources to design programs to support mental health and wellness for children and families.

Left-wing activists launch ‘No Red Cross’ campaign, ask for donor dollars
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Activists are discouraging Hurricane Harvey donors from giving to the American Red Thingy and urging them instead to contribute to left-wing causes, some of which are advocacy groups engaged in little if any emergency relief work.

Linda Sarsour, a prominent Moslem and feminist activist, sent out a tweet encouraging donors to give to the Texas Organizing Project Education Fund, which conducts "direct action organizing, grass-roots lobbying and electoral organizing led by working families in Texas."

"TOP is one of many organizations on this list you can choose to support," Ms. Sarsour said in a Wednesday tweet that included the #NoRedCross hashtag. "Grassroots orgs on ground. Long term needed."

The Texas Organizing Project, which has fought Texas voter ID laws and supported sanctuary-state status, is part of the Hurricane Harvey Community Relief Fund, a coalition that includes labor groups such as the Service Employees International Union as well as Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid.

"Together we will organize and advocate for our devastated communities, shining a spotlight on inequalities that emerge in the restoration of lives, livelihoods and homes, amplifying the needs of hard-hit communities, and providing legal assistance for residents wrongfully denied government support," the coalition says on its fundraising page.

Afghanistan
UNAMA says 28 civilians killed, 16 wounded in Logar and Herat airstrikes
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) released its preliminary findings regarding the deadly airstrikes conducted in Logar and Herat provinces of Afghanistan.

According to UNAMA, at least 28 civilians were killed and 16 others were wounded in the airstrikes, citing preliminary findings the mission conducted into the alleged civilian casualties reports.

The report by UNAMA further added, On 30 August, airstrikes conducted in the Pul-e-Alam district of Logar province killed at least 13 civilians and injured 12 others, UNAMA’s preliminary findings indicate.

UNAMA said, the air strikes reportedly targeted Anti-Government Elements as they used a civilian compound to attack aircraft.

“UNAMA notes the news release issued by United States Forces in Afghanistan that it is aware of an incident in the Logar area and that they have opened an investigation into it,” the report said, adding that “UNAMA will continue its independent work to establish the facts around the harm caused to civilians from these attacks, including looking into allegations that Anti-Government Elements deliberately used civilians or civilian locations as a shield.”

According to the UN mission in Afghanistan, it has recorded a 43 per cent increase in civilian casualties from aerial operations during the first six months of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016, documenting 232 civilian casualties (95 deaths and 137 injured), with substantial increases in women and child deaths.

“I am deeply saddened to hear that women and children have once again suffered so terribly from the conflict,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA. “This is unacceptable. All parties must live up to their obligations to take all feasible measures to protect civilians.”

UNAMA urges authorities to ensure independent, impartial and prompt investigations of both incidents at the earliest opportunity, and for appropriate steps to be taken to ensure accountability, compensation for victims and the prevention of such incidents in the future.

Bulk of ISIL convoy leaves Syria's government-held area
[Al Jazeera] Most of an ISIL evacuation convoy stuck in east Syria has crossed out of government territory headed to ISIL-held Deir Az Zor province and is no longer the responsibility of the Syrian government or its ally Hezbollah, according to the Lebanese armed group.

Hezbollah said in a statement on Saturday that out of 17 buses full of hundreds of lightly armed ISIL fighters and their families only six remained in government-held territory under the protection of the Syrian state and Hezbollah.

The buses, which left ISIL's enclave near Syria's border with Lebanon on Monday, were in danger from US-led coalition air strikes before reaching their destination of Deir Az Zor's Al-Bukamal city, near the Iraqi border.

"The Syrian state and Hezbollah have fulfilled their obligations to transfer buses out of the area of Syrian government control without exposing them," Hezbollah's statement said.

Rami Abdurrahman, head of the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said dozens of fighters and civilians left the buses and drove into ISIL-held parts of Deir Az Zor in 12 civilian vehicles.

Omar Abu Laila, a member of the DeirEzzor 24 activist group, who currently lives in Europe, gave an account similar to that of Abdurrahman.

Outgoing anti-ISIL commander in Iraq says US will continue with YPG after Raqqa operation
[Hurriyet Daily News] Outgoing army Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend, the Iraq-based commander of the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), has made it clear that Washington will continue to cooperate with the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) inside the Kurdish-Syrian Arab alliance Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in its bid to sweep jihadists from the Middle Euphrates River Valley during the final stand.

Speaking at his final teleconference call from Baghdad to a group of journalists in Washington, Townsend said the final stand of ISIL would be in the Middle Euphrates River Valley from Syria’s Deir al-Zor province down to Iraq’s Rawa, spanning over 250 kilometers and SDF will be a part of the operation, answering a question over the course of future prospects in the region.

“And you mentioned a Kurd force, but the Syrian Democratic Forces comprise of about 50,000 fighters, half of whom are Arabs. And what I’ve watched with this force is that they, first of all, solicit volunteers and recruits from the area to be liberated and they form the leading elements of the force from those people.

So I think that they will—they will do this much in the same way they are doing it in Raqqa. They will recruit people from the Deir ez-Zor province in the Middle Euphrates River Valley, and they will be part of the campaign. And I am reasonably confident, based on past history that they will find a force—they will make a force that is acceptable to the people down there.” Townsend said, citing their previous experience in Manbij, Tabqa and currently in Raqqa.

“You have to remember that the Syrian Democratic Forces are not the Iraqi Security Forces. They do not have tanks, helicopters or fighter jets. They are really an irregular light infantry force with a comparative handful of light armored vehicles and heavy weapons, who, with coalition assistance, are fighting well above the weight class. They have been and remain the most effective counter-ISIS fighting force in Syria,” he said, stressing Washington was also having a conversation with Moscow to de-conflict the region.

Townsend also added that the situation in Manbij was quiet for around 10 days after Turkey took “appropriate measures” to prevent further clashes between the Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters and coalition soldiers.

“So we actually have not had these clashes that you are referring to now in probably—I think, about 10 days or so. And what we were seeing about two weeks ago were some of the Free Syrian Army opposition—Syrian opposition fighters in the area controlled by the Turkish military, were firing upon the Manbij area there, where there are some U.S. forces—coalition forces there. We identified this to our Turkish allies—our NATO allies, Turkey, and they have, I think, taken the appropriate measures to get that under control,” Townsend said.

Coalition warplanes kill 22 Islamic State fighters in Anbar
[Iraq News] Warplanes from the United States-led coalition killed 22 Islamic State militants in western Anbar on Saturday, a senior paramilitary leader was quoted saying.

Qatari al-Obaidi, a commander at the tribal forces in Anbar, told Alsumaria News that coalition fighter jets killed 22 members of the extremist group who were in a convoy heading to the town of Annah (210 west of Ramadi) coming from Qaim.

He said seven vehicles driven by the militants were destroyed in the raid.

Islamic State militants are still holding the towns of Qaim, Rawa and Anna, in western Anbar, since 2014, when they occupied a third of Iraq to proclaim their self-styled “caliphate”. So far, there has not been a wide-scale campaign to retake those regions, but occasional offensives by government forces and allied Popular Mobilization Forces have managed to take over several surrounding villages.

Iraqi army messages tell Hawija people liberation is imminent
[Iraq News] Iraqi army planes airdropped millions of messages on Islamic State-held town of Hawija, Kirkuk, on Thursday, telling them that operations to recapture the stronghold were nearing, military media reported.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the air force dropped millions of messages on the southwestern Kirkuk town telling people “riddance from Daesh (Islamic State)” was close.

Citizens were instructed to steer away from militants’ gatherings because they would become targets for military jets, the media service said.

“The Joint Operations Command will specify safe areas for citizens later,” it added.

The JOC said Wednesday it had concluded operations to retake Tal Afar, Islamic State’s last stronghold in Nineveh, adding that Hawija was the next target for the next military operations.

Jesse Jackson: Trump ‘Would Not Qualify to Get Into Jesus’ Kingdom’
[Free Beacon] "Trump says you must be able to speak the language of English, [be] qualified, and have a job skill," Jackson said Monday. "Jesus would not qualify to come in Trump's country—he would not qualify to get into Jesus' kingdom."

And he was a skilled carpenter as well as a scholar and lecturer, so he would have a number of saleable skills. As for where Mr. Trump will go when he dies, I believe the Teacher said, "Judge not, lest ye be judged."
Jackson made the comment Monday at the "Ministers March for Justice," which was spearheaded by Rev. Al Sharpton and featured ministers from various traditions united in opposing the Trump administration."

Houthi militias strengthen forces in Sanaa and surroundings
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Yemeni sources said that the Houthi militias intensified the armed checkpoints and security barriers in Sanaa’s streets, and reinforced its supervision over the military leaders loyal to the ousted Saleh.

The sources revealed that the Houthis summoned hundreds of their members from different fronts, and deployed them in Sanaa, and prepared special troops to fight a quick battle with Saleh loyalists.

A Special Forces batch was advanced by Houthi militias called the “quick intervention”, this batch is highly combative, on the occasion of their graduation; they carried out a military maneuver in one of the suburbs of Sana’a, as per the same sources.

The ousted Saleh, earlier, asked to commit to the partnership with the Houthi militias in ruling Sanaa, as per their agreement to form the so-called political council, asserting the necessity of restoring to what he called the military and security institution and its importance in providing security beside the citizens and volunteers who are forming groups to protect the country.

According to a military source in Damascus, the exchange will consist of the Islamic State releasing one Hezbollah soldier held hostage by their forces and one corpse of a fallen fighter.

In exchange, the Islamic State is supposed to receive some prisoners that were captured recently by Hezbollah in the Qalamoun Mountains.

Today’s transfer of prisoners marks the the last phase of the Qalamoun agreement between the Islamic State and Hezbollah forces in Syria.

...(al-Bunyan al-Marsous, Solid Base) An operation carried out by Misratan forces loyal to the Libyan Goverenment of National Accord to dislodge ISIS forces from Sirte. 2,500 turbans were reported killed in the operation, which lasted from May through December.GNA's Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj officially announced the end of military operations on 18 December 2016...
(BM), have finally been released and flown home.

It is not known why the Ottoman Turkish-flagged Kalkanlar 1 was sunk on 27 February 2016. It has been claimed it was involved in smuggling diesel fuel. The three-man crew were captured by the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS).

At some point after their detention, they were able to phone their families to say merely that they had sunk their vessel, the Azerbaijan Press Agency said today. Thereafter they appear to have remained in a prison until it was overrun by BM forces last year in their drive to wrest control of Sirte from IS.

It would seem that BM then continued to hold the men on suspicion that they were IS members. Though Libya has an embassy in the Azeri capital Baku, Azerbaijan has no envoys in Libya. Thus Ottoman Turkish diplomats were reportedly involved in long negotiations to secure the crew’s release and visited them while they were detained.

On Thursday, the men, named as Namiq Salmanov, Movlud Rashidbayli and Farid Aliyev, were released and today they were flown to Istanbul on their way to Baku. The Azeri government has thanked local Libyan diplomats, the Ottoman Turkish embassy in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and the Presidency Council (PC) for their help in freeing the crew.

The last recorded position of the 35-metre Kalkanlar 1, according to MarineTraffic.com was in November 2015 when it was in the western Ottoman Turkish port of Aliaga.

Indian fire kills Pakistan girl in Kashmir
[Al Jazeera] A five-year-old Pakistani girl was killed on Saturday after she was hit in the head by a bullet fired by Indian troops across the border in disputed Kashmir, officials said.

The incident took place in Polas village at Abbaspur sector on the Line of Control, the de facto border dividing Kashmir between nuclear-armed rivals Pakistan and India.

"A five-year-old girl was walking outside her house when a lone bullet fired by Indian troops pierced through her head," official Tahir Mumtaz told AFP news agency.

The girl was rushed to hospital but died on the way, he said, adding villagers held a protest and condemned the shooting on the day they were celebrating Eid al-Adha, the Muslim festival of sacrifice.

Another official, Sardar Sajid, confirmed the death.

Carr: When will all the Lefties do the right thing?
[BOSTONHERALD] How many flood victims in South Texas have been rescued by the Antifa

navy?

Just asking, because on TV this week I’ve been watching the "Cajun Navy" pull one Dunkirk after another all around the Gulf Coast.

And those good old boys look like they just came off the set of "Duck Dynasty." They could be wearing MAGA hats. Hell, I’ll bet one or two of them may have even been falsely accused of committing a fake hate crime or two since the election by some unhinged Social Justice Warrior.

They are, to coin a phrase, deplorables.

Hell, a Chick-fil-A franchise in Houston sent out a power boat to rescue a couple of elderly customers. And the old folks didn’t even ask if Chick-fil-A’s CEO is still opposed to gay marriage.

Is Michael Moore hosting an All-U-Can-Eat buffet for first responders in Harris County? If he were, surely MSNBC would be covering it, live.

Where are Elizabeth Warren, Whoopi Goldberg, Steven Colbert, etc. etc.?

Seriously, doesn’t it look like almost all of the heavy lifting in the wake of Harvey is being done by people who belong to what the Southern Poverty Law Center would describe as "hate groups?"

Speaking of which, when does the SPLC’s food drive begin? Are the non-workers of the Socialist Workers Party and the Spartacist League loading any southbound 18-wheelers with relief supplies this weekend?

Maybe everyone in "the Resistance
That'd be the Hezbullies, natch...
" is worn out from wearing pink hats and black masks and tipping over statues and sucker punching passers-by with bicycle locks in Berkeley and grabbing an old lady’s flag on the Boston Common and burning it -- all those wonderful manifestations of how Love Trumps Hate, as they say.

Of course, it’s the last weekend of summer, so you can’t expect the likes of Jeffrey Epstein
...A high class pimp financier who was alleged to maintain a stable of underage whores sex slaves who were paid big bucks to entertain the rich and/or famous. He is a registered sex offender and has so far made 17 out-of-court settlements with former members of his stable, and some cases are ongoing. 2011 court docs reveal that 21 email addresses and phone numbers for Bill Clinton and an aide were found in Epstein's electronic black book, and that Clinton frequently flew with Epstein on his private plane between 2002 to 2005. But But really, they were probably just discussing finance or politix or something. While getting massaged.....
to be scrambling his private 747 out of the Hamptons to airlift foodstuffs to Galveston and Beaumont. You can’t be asking Brooklyn hipsters or Occupy Wall Street to occupy a relief shelter when the Beautiful People are jetting into Nantucket for brunch at the Chanticleer Inn.

Besides, as assorted adjunct professors at third-rate colleges have been tweeting out all week, those are Trump voters stranded down there in the Lone Star State -- bitter clingers and irredeemables.

Then there’s John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
-- he did sell his second wife’s first husband’s trust fund’s yacht when he moved from Nantucket to the Vineyard, but he could still enlist in the Cajun Navy. America’s Gigolo has other plans this weekend, though. According to The Hill, Liveshot is busy -- "Kerry races to save American cycling team."

Well, first things first.

How about the Clinton Foundation? They have more money than God, but if you go to their website, all it has is a list of links to other organizations. For flood relief, I guess it takes a village, but not the Clinton Foundation.

Joel Osteen took a lot of grief this week, but his church is open. Which of his three mansions is Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
opening for flood victims?

Victims of Hurricane Harvey, when the phone don’t ring, you’ll know it’s #resist.

Yemeni Rocketry Force Launches Ballistic Missile onto Saudi-led Sudanese Mercenaries in Jizan
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] The Yemeni rocketry force launched on Saturday a ballistic missile (Qaher 2M) onto the Saudi-led mercenaries of the Sudanese army in Jizan, inflicting heavy losses upon them.

A military source reported that the rocket hit the target and left scores of the Sudanese mercenaries dead or injured.

Yemen has been since March 2015 under a brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition. Tens of thousands of Yemenis have been injured and martyred in Saudi-led strikes, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

The coalition has been also imposing a blockade on the impoverished country’s ports and airports as a part of his aggression which is aimed at restoring power to fugitive former president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

However, the allied forces of the army and the committees have been heroically confronting the aggression with all means.

Trump arrives in Texas for second visit since Harvey
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
arrived in Houston on Saturday to meet with victims of Hurricane Harvey after a week of historic flooding in the area claimed at least 40 lives and displaced more than 1 million people.

On his second visit to the region since the storm made landfall in the United States last week, Trump disembarked from Air Force One wearing dark pants and a rain jacket and was greeted by a group that included Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Trump was accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, who wore a blue hat that read "Texas" and a blue denim shirt, and a handful of cabinet members, including Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Veteran Affairs Secretary David Shulkin.

Trump asked Congress late Friday for an initial $7.85 billion for hurricane recovery efforts. Abbott has said that his state may need more than $125 billion.

The president will meet with Harvey victims at the air field before heading to a relief center. Trump did not interact with victims on his trip Tuesday to Corpus Christi and Austin.

Earlier, as he left aboard Air Force One from a military base in Maryland he had tweeted: "We will see you soon. America is with you!"

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran looking to boost missile production, exports
[IsraelTimes] New defense minister says Tehran wants to give missiles and technology to its allies in the region 'to prevent war and conflict'

Iran’s new defense minister said Saturday the priority was to boost the country’s missile program and export weapons to shore up neighboring allies.

“In combat fields, especially in missiles, we have a specific plan to boost Iran’s missile power,” said General Amir Hatami, who was appointed defense minister earlier this month, in a speech carried by the ISNA news agency.

“God willing, the combat capabilities of Iran’s ballistic and cruise missiles will increase in this term,” he added.

Hatami also said Iran would look to export weapons “to prevent war and conflict.”

“Wherever a country becomes weak, others become encouraged to raid it… Wherever necessary, we will export weapons to increase the security of the region and countries, to prevent wars,” he said, without naming the countries.

Iran is a key supporter of Syria and the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon. Both threaten Israel with tens of thousands of rockets and missiles.

Hatami is the first defense minister to be selected from the regular army, rather than the elite Revolutionary Guards, in more than two decades.

Analysts say this reflects an increasing convergence between the two military arms as Iran increases its involvement in regional conflicts such as Syria and Iraq, which have been the Guard’s exclusive purview since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Israel has in recent years repeatedly hit convoys believed to be transferring advanced rockets and missiles, being transferred from Iran through Syria to Hezbollah.

Jerusalem has also warned against Iranian efforts to set up missile production facilities in Lebanon, with Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman telling United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a meeting in Israel earlier this week that Iran is “working to set up factories to manufacture accurate weapons within Lebanon itself.”

Liberman did not explicitly threaten to attack the Iranian missile factories in Lebanon, but he said that “the Lebanese government and the citizens of southern Lebanon should know” that Israel will be forceful in future conflicts.

The presence of at least two Iranian missile manufacturing facilities was revealed by Israel earlier this summer. On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Guterres that Iran was also involved in the construction of another missile base in Syria.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri denied Israeli assertions that Iran has established weapons factories in Lebanon for the Hezbollah terror group, saying the allegations were part of a “disinformation campaign” by Israel.

“The Israelis know very well that there are no missile factories in Lebanon. They are used to running these disinformation campaigns,” Hariri told the French daily Le Monde in an interview published Friday.

The US has also imposed fresh sanctions on Iran due to its continued missile program.

Merkel criticises Turkey after two more German citizens detained
[Hurriyet Daily News] German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sept. 1 sharply criticised Turkey's detention of two further German citizens, saying Berlin should react decisively and perhaps rethink its relations with Ankara.

Under the circumstances, Merkel said she did not think it was appropriate to carry out further discussions with Ankara about its participation in a European Union customs union.

"We must react decisively," Merkel told a business event in the southern city of Nuremberg. Given the latest events, she said it was "perhaps necessary to rethink" relations with Ankara.

A government spokeswoman told reporters earlier on Sept. 1 that two German citizens had been detained in Turkey for what Berlin believes are "political" reasons.

In the video Lieutenant Greg Abbott told a woman who feared moving her hands during a traffic stop not to worry because “we only kill black people.” Told she could pick up her cell phone, the woman said she did not want to move her hands because she has seen “way too many videos of cops.” “But you’re not black,” Abbott replies in the July 2016 video. “Remember? Afghanistan
Taliban insurgents suffer casualties in Kandahar and Paktika operations: MoD
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Taliban insurgents have suffered casualties during the operations of the Afghan security forces in southern Kandahar and southeastern Paktika provinces.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement said at least 9 insurgents were killed and 4 others were wounded during the operations conducted in Khakrez district of Kandahar.

The statement further added that a vehicle and six weapons were also destroyed during the same operations.

According to MoD, at least 3 insurgents were killed and 2 others were wounded during another operation conducted in Khair Kot district of Paktika province.

The Ministry of Defense says the operations were conducted in the past 24 hours as part of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) clearance and counter-terrorism operations to suppress the insurgency of the anti-government armed militant groups.

The statement by MoD also added that the during this period, the Afghan forces have conducted 12 clearance operations, 9 special operations in ten provinces of the country.

The Afghan Air Force also participated in the operations and carried out 28 missions in support of the Afghan forces which includes 3 airstrikes, MoD added.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the reports so far.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria army gains in ISIL's last central stronghold
[Al Jazeera] The Syrian army and its allies have engaged ISIL fighters in the armed group's last central bastion, a day after taking the heavily defended village of Uqairabat, a monitor reported.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reported on Saturday that the army and its allies had also taken other villages in the area, aided by Russian helicopters.

The Observatory reported that intense fighting continues, but did not give any specific number of casualties.

The enclave lies close to the main road running, between the cities of Homs and Aleppo near the town of al-Salamiya, and has been the site of intense fighting for months.

Evicting the armed fighters from the area is viewed as necessary to improve security on the road.

The Syrian army, aided by Russian airstrikes and Iran-backed Shia militias including Lebanon's Hezbollah, had made advances deep into eastern Syria this year against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (also known as ISIS).

It is pushing to relieve its besieged enclave in the city of Deir Ezzor, one of the cities on the Euphrates to which ISIL has fallen back after losses in both Syria and Iraq, but has left the pocket in central Syria in its rear.

Iraq
Police reinforcements sent to Kirkuk preparing for IS haven’s invasion
[Iraq News] Reinforcements of Iraqi troops were sent near Islamic State’s strongholds in Kirkuk preparing for an invasion to retake them from the militant group, military media reported on Saturday.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said further reinforcements from the Federal Police were sent from Baghdad to Kirkuk’s Hawija to take part in the anticipated liberation offensives.

Last week, the WMC said air force aeroplanes dropped millions of messages on the southwestern Kirkuk town telling people “riddance from Daesh (Islamic State)” was close.

Barzani vows ‘strong’ response to any attempt to seize Kirkuk
[Iraq News] Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani has vowed to “strongly” react to any attempt to take over Kirkuk province for which it engages in a sovereignty dispute with the Iraqi central government.

“Kirkuk is Kurdish….any force that thinks of taking Kirkuk by force will be faced by the whole people of Kurdistan. We will defend it until the last one of us,” a number of Iraqi news websites quoted him saying in press statements.

“Kirkuk is not only Kurdish, it is for Kurds, Arabs and Christians…we shall make it a model of coexistence,” Barzani stated.

Barzani’s statements came a few hours after remarks by a senior Shia militia leader who threatened to consider Kurdistan an “enemy” if it includes Kirkuk in its September 25th referendum on independence from Iraq.

Qais al-Khazaali, commander of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, a component of the Popular Mobilization Forces, said Kurdistan’s inclusion of Kirkuk as a voting district during the anticipated vote is “a serious matter that needs an official, decisive response”.

Addressing Barzani, Khazaali said that if the referendum leads to secession from Iraq, Iraqis will consider territories under Kurdish control as “occupied lands”.

Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Says ‘Maine’s Whiteness Is Bad News’
[BREITBART] Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Eves believes "Maine’s whiteness is bad news" according to remarks he delivered during a Maine People’s Alliance event this week.

According to Maine First Media and Big League Politics, the former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives delivered the remarks while addressing a group of nearly one hundred activists and grassroots supporters Wednesday evening at the "Resistance Rising" forum event put on by the Maine People’s Alliance in Lewiston.

Eves reportedly said Maine is going to be in trouble if it does not attract a more diverse population.

Organizers of the event ironically noted that the Wednesday’s gathering was put together to "help everyday Mainers and fight back against the racist and xenophobic rhetoric and policies coming from Washington and Augusta."

According to the Sun Journal, the event was attended by "seven Democrats who are eyeing the possibility of becoming Maine’s next governor," along with three congressional hopefuls.

Maine GOP Chair Dr. Demi Kouzounas responded to Eves’s statement saying, "This is yet another revelation that Maine Democrats are sadly more focused on the color of people’s skin than the content of their character." Kouzounas added, "Maine people are looking for answers on issues such as jobs, taxes, the state budget, energy costs and welfare reform, and Mark Eves is instead focusing on the color of our residents’ skin and identity politics. Maine voters see through the cynical identity politics of liberal Democrats like Mark Eves."

This is not the first time a Caucasian, Democratic member of the "Pine Tree State" has expressed a self-deprecating view.

Big League Politics reported that in April that a former candidate for the Maine State Senate was caught on video celebrating the rise in suicide among white males.

"You know, today I saw a thing that said a lot of men -- white men -- are committing suicide," Richard Fochtmann said. "And I almost said yeah! Great!"

Iraq
Unknown individuals set fire to Islamic State arms stash in Hawija
[Iraq News] Fires caught at an Islamic State arms depot in the group’s stronghold in southwestern Hawija, said a local source on Thursday.

Unknown perpetrators set fire to the facility in central Hawija, causing blasts, the source told Almaalomah news website, adding that it had contained weapons and maps belonging to the militants who tried to put the fire out in vain.

On Wednesday, the Joint Operations Command, which has spearheaded the campaign against Islamic State in Iraq since 2014, said it would move to recapturing Hawija, which IS has held since they proclaimed a “Caliphate” rule in Iraq.

Local tribal leaders and politicians from Kirkuk have mounted pressure on the Iraqi government to hasten with invading Hawija, the group’s largest stronghold in the southwest of the province, suggesting that its people were experiencing a humanitarian crisis under the group’s rule as the group continues to massacre civilians attempting to flee the town.

Uhuru Kenyatta to court: 'We shall revisit this'
[Al Jazeera] Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Saturday the country has "a problem" with its judiciary that must be fixed.

He was speaking a day after the Supreme Court annulled his election win last month and ordered a new poll within 60 days.

"We shall revisit this thing. We clearly have a problem," he said, referring to the judiciary.

"Who even elected you? Were you? We have a problem and we must fix it," he said, speaking on live television at the State House in Nairobi after he met with governors and other elected officials from his Jubilee party.

Kenyatta, however, also repeated his message from Friday that he would respect the court's ruling.

The decision to annul the election was an unprecedented move in Africa where governments often hold sway over judges - and the first time on the continent that a court ruled against the electoral victory of an incumbent.

Analysts viewed the president's latest comments on the judiciary as a worrisome development.
