Son of Fox News host Eric Bolling dies just one day after his father was fired by FOX
[MAIL] The son of Eric Bolling, a Fox News host who was fired from the cable giant after an investigation into claims of sexual harassment, has died, it was learned on Saturday.
Eric Chase, 19, Bolling's only child, died on Friday night, journalist Yashar Ali reported on Saturday.

'Very sad news, Eric Bolling’s son, who was only 19, died last night,' Ali, a contributor to New York magazine and Huffington Post, tweeted.

'By all accounts, Eric was incredibly devoted to his son. Heartbreaking.'

Ali was the reporter who initially broke the story in Huffington Post last month about the alleged lewd texts sent by Bolling.

In response, Bolling filed a $50million lawsuit against Ali, according to Politico.

Fox News released a statement on Saturday, saying: 'We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Eric Bolling's son. 'Eric Chase was a wonderful young man and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Bolling family.'

A source close to the Bolling family told DailyMail.com: ’It is believed he died Friday night. No doubt everything his father has been through lately has weighed heavily on his child.’

Bolling's former colleague at Fox News, primetime host Sean Hannity, tweeted on Saturday: 'To my dear friend, please know we all love you, will be here for you and your family.'

The Trump Dossier Is Fake -- And Here Are The Reasons Why
[Forbes 13 Jan 2017] A former British intelligence officer, who is now a director of a London private security-and-investigations firm, has been identified as the author of the dossier of unverified allegations about President-elect Donald Trump’s activities and connections in Russia, according to the Wall Street Journal. A Christopher Steele, a director of London-based private intelligence company, Orbis, purportedly prepared the dossier under contract to both Republican and Democratic adversaries of then-candidate Trump. The poor grammar and shaky spelling plus the author’s use of KGB-style intelligence reporting, however, do not fit the image of a high-end London security company run by highly connected former British intelligence figures.

I would have thought this would be major news as to me he's a bigger person than any of those crappy so called movie stars (except maybe a couple) the MSM is always weeping and howling over. He did have a major impact on my thinking.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.): We'll Shut Down The Gov't In Dec Until The DREAM Act Passes
[Hot Air] He’s always been crystal clear about his allegiances. In 2010 he famously told Newsweek, "I have only one loyalty, and that’s to the immigrant community." Watch his floor speech from yesterday below and you’ll find him celebrating DREAMers for having one loyalty as well, to the United States. If that’s true, they’re doing a better job with their priorities than he is.

Gutierrez is prepared to go to the mat for legalization this December by using the impending fiscal cliff as leverage. Are Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi?

Retired CIA SES: A Second Look at the Steele Dossier - Knowing what we know now
[Just Security] - Editor’s Note: In this special Just Security article, highly respected former member of the CIA’s Senior Intelligence Service, John Sipher examines the Steele dossier using methods that an intelligence officer would to try to validate such information. Sipher concludes that the dossier’s information on campaign collusion is generally credible when measured against standard Russian intelligence practices, events subsequent to Steele’s reporting, and information that has become available in the nine months since Steele’s final report. The dossier, in Sipher’s view, is not without fault, including factual inaccuracies. Those errors, however, do not detract from an overarching framework that has proven to be ever more reliable as new revelations about potential Trump campaign collusion with the Kremlin and its affiliates has come to light in the nine months since Steele submitted his final report.

Emphasis added.

#1  Mixing truth with fiction, sometimes referred to as 'half-truth' or 'partial truth' is generally regarded as misrepresentation.

Yes, it contains a drivers seat, a gear box, tires, a windscreen, and a cooling system. It must surely be a Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet

#2  I'd afraid Mr. Sipher enjoys a confidence in the FBI not shared by many. He also makes no mention of Christopher Steele's connection to Fusion GPS, an “oppo firm” funded by Hillary’s supporters. Nor does he mention the unique relationship of former FBI Director Comey to the Clinton's.

One clue as to the credibility of the sources in these reports is that Steele shared them with the FBI. The fact that the FBI reportedly sought to work with him and to pay him to develop additional information on the sources suggest that at least some of them were worth taking seriously. At the very least, the FBI will be able to validate the credibility of the sources, and therefore better judge the information. As one recently retired senior intelligence officer with deep experience in espionage investigations quipped, “I assign more credence to the Steele report knowing that the FBI paid him for his research. From my experience, there is nobody more miserly than the FBI. If they were willing to pay Mr. Steele, they must have seen something of real value.”

#4  I am not surprised by allegations that the Kremlin was attempting to undermine Ms. Clinton, in an attempt to weaken the united states government, particularly in the period in which she seemed very likely to win the election.
However I would suspect that the Kremlin would be equally likely to attempt to undermine Trump once he started to look like a viable candidate, just in case he might win.
I fail to see how reports about supposed Trump crazy behavior in Russia suggest collusion between the Russians and Trump. It sounds much more like an attempt to embarrass and discredit him.
Moreover, the entire claim of collusion between Trump and the Russians, seems, according to this article, to be based on this "dossier", which has been used, ever since the electionas far as I can tell, to sow dissent aimed at Trump in this country.
Given that this "dossier" was apparently paid for and disseminated by the Democratic Party in an attempt to discredit Trump, and that the sources in this document are primarily Russian agents, it is plausible to me that the Democrats, and the FBI have been colluding with the Russians to discredit Trump, just exactly in the manner that the documents claim that Trump was attempting to discredit Clinton.
The main difference is that the Democratic Party apparently paid for this information, as opposition research, and no evidence that I have seen asserts that the Trump campaign paid for any particular anti-Clinton information.
This reminds me of how much the Clinton campaign and the press howled about Trump not willing to declare that he would accept the result of the election, and how silent they are about the gigantic efforts by the Democrats and the press to refuse to accept the the results of the election once it happened .
One was mere talk, the other an attempt to subvert our democracy.
This report could really be evidence of the pot calling the kettle black.

Imran Awan Still Has A Copy Of Congressional Data Linked To Wasserman Schultz
[Daily Caller] Prosecutors have given Imran Awan a copy of the hard drive of a House laptop that Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz tried to keep law enforcement from looking at, court filings show, suggesting prosecutors intend to bring charges related to the underlying cybersecurity and theft probe.

The hard-drive copy was included in discovery even though the Florida Democrat has said the laptop contains House information on it and is a government-paid work computer, and even though Imran was fired and banned from the House network because of suspected cybersecurity violations.

Skipping down a bit to a couple of paragraphs possibly containing the reasons for the release of data:

Imran had access to all the emails and files of dozens of House Democrats. The bizarre refusal of members of Congress to criticize Imran no matter how many suspicious actions are tied to him raises questions about whether members may be afraid that he could release their emails if they assist in his prosecution, or that some could implicated in a kickbacks scheme involving disappearing equipment and ghost employees.

Immediately after prosecutors gave Imran a copy of the laptop, Imran’s wife, Hina Alvi, told prosecutors she would agree to return from Pakistan to face charges, seemingly indicating she has confidence that she won’t face serious punishment for theft or cyberviolations, despite authorities being in possession of massive quantities of invoices that were systematically altered to prevent the equipment from appearing in House inventories.

Helicopter crash kills country singer Troy Gentry and pilot
[ABC] A helicopter carrying singer Troy Gentry, of the award-winning country music duo Montgomery Gentry, crashed on Friday, killing Gentry and the pilot.

The crash occurred in a wooded area as the helicopter approached the Flying W Airport in Medford hours before Montgomery Gentry was due to perform at a resort housed at the airport, authorities said.

The band's website called Gentry's death "tragic" and said details of the crash were unknown.

"Troy Gentry's family wishes to acknowledge all of the kind thoughts and prayers, and asks for privacy at this time," the website said.

Gentry, who was 50 years old, was from Kentucky.

Robert Mueller targets Priebus, Spicer, Hicks, Three other White House Aides in Russia Probe
[Breitbart] FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller has reportedly told the White House that he intends to interview six current and former top staffers in relation to his investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Former Press Secretary Sean Spicer, former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, and Communications Director Hope Hicks are all on Mueller’s list, the Washington Post reported Friday.

Mueller also reportedly intends to question White House counsel Don McGahn and one of his deputies, as well as Josh Raffel ‐ a spokesman whom the Post describes as working closely with Senior Adviser Jared Kushner.

Mueller is believed to be interested in particular in discussions relating to the decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey and the alleged inaction over warnings about former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s dealings with Russia. Flynn eventually resigned after it was revealed he misled Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the U.S.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Author John le Carré Brings George Smiley Back in 'A Legacy of Spies'
[Vanity Fair] A Legacy of Spies has two settings. The first is a very recognizable present. Guillam, quietly in retirement, is abruptly called to London and drawn into what British intelligence‐the Circus, as le Carré characters call it‐has lately become: a world of coiffed apparatchiks and ruthless spinners in a gleaming fortress on the Thames. Behind the summons: lawsuits that threaten to expose the dark innards of an operation from long ago‐specifically, the operation recounted in The Spy Who Came In from the Cold (1963), the book that brought le Carré to prominence. That operation provides the second setting: Berlin and London in the early 1960s. The principals are mainly gone (dead, inaccessible), but le Carré brings them to the page by an epistolary device: he sets Guillam to sifting through old paperwork‐inter-office memos, eyes-only communiqués, interrogation transcripts‐allowing familiar voices to speak. Le Carré builds an intricate tale ("watchmaking," he calls it) as Guillam attempts to reconstruct the backstory of Spy‐a book that itself set the stage for the Circus books to come.

#1  ...Hmm. Mixed feelings on this.

I absolutely love the Smiley Trilogy (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy, and Smiley's People) but LeCarre - pen name of one David Cornwell, an employee of Her Majesty's Intelligence Service - doesn't like Americans one tiny little bit. He kept it in check, more or less, through the Trilogy though it kind of peeks out in Schoolboy. However, in his following books (and in interviews following his retirement from Government service)he lets it rip.

I'm likely to get it from the library though, because getting to see the old characters again is just too tempting.

Former Special Operations Service Members Save Lives, Support Harvey Recovery
[Free Beacon] A team of former U.S. military special operations members are serving their country, even after they have left the military.

Team members from the International Harbor Foundation saved people trapped by Hurricane Harvey's severe flooding in the Houston, Texas area, Fox 26 reported.

The Houston-based nonprofit organization, comprised mostly of those who previously took part in U.S. special forces missions, usually conducts undercover operations in order to combat human trafficking. As a result, the former special operators are unable to show their faces on camera.

#1  From the IHF website:

WHO WE ARE
We are former US Special Operations soldiers and Intelligence operatives from various units and organizations. We founded International Harbor in 2015 as an answer to a problem we have long identified. When dealing with human trafficking, missing persons, and kidnapping cases, government agencies are often dramatically underfunded. Meanwhile, private investigative and recovery services are generally unattainable to victims’ families and communities. Our goal is to identify where the immediate needs lie and start working backwards to the source of the issues. We want to free victims from human trafficking and kidnapping in the United States and abroad.

China-Japan-Koreas
Russia and China: The Bodyguards of Kim Jong-Un
[Free Beacon] "Why did we lose this war?" asked James Burnham of Vietnam in 1972. One reason, he wrote, was that "We failed‐that is, our leadership failed‐to comprehend this Indochina struggle as one campaign or sub-war in a global conflict. Since we did not set it within its global frame of reference, our leaders could neither develop a comprehensive strategy to win it nor make it comprehensible to the American people."

That is a fair description of the geopolitical situation more than four decades later. America faces diplomatic and security crises along the Rimland of the Eurasian supercontinent, from Lebanon and Syria and Yemen and Iran, to a recalcitrant Pakistan, a militarized South China Sea, and nuclear brinkmanship in North Korea. We bomb ISIS, threaten to unwind the Iranian nuclear agreement, demand that Pakistan assist us in our war against the Afghan Taliban, and remind Kim Jong Un that U.S. forces are "locked and loaded" if he crosses an ill-defined red line.

We treat these dilemmas as if they are isolated from one another. We prefer to think the Shiite Corridor that Iran is establishing from the Zagros Mountains to the Mediterranean has nothing to do with a North Korean hydrogen bomb. We focus on Omar al-Baghdadi and Kim Jong-Un and Bashar al-Assad rather than the more powerful players who lurk behind them. We apply local solutions to a global problem. The result is not only strategic incoherence. It's a diminished United States.

We know what the problem is. The post-Cold War, American-led world order of democratic capitalist nation-states tied to one another by free-flowing capital, trade, labor, technology, and media is falling apart. And this fragmentation is happening not only because of internal division, feelings of historical guilt, and spiritual exhaustion, but also because two external challengers are actively subverting American prestige and influence around the globe. I doubt Burnham would be surprised to learn that these challengers are exactly the same powers that thwarted the United States in Vietnam: Russia and China.

None of the subsidiary national security issues of war in Ukraine, chaos in the Middle East, or nukes on the Korean peninsula can be resolved without confronting Russian and Chinese malfeasance. As we are consumed with White House intrigue, dopey clichés, and blistering Twitter threads, Russia and China consolidate their positions by establishing facts on the ground. Consider the following headlines:

#2  More Russophobia. Ridiculous.

"What we have, then, is the steady erosion of the American position, with Russia acting in the western flank of the great continent"

Russia is surrounded on all sides, hemmed in by US bases. China is behind three lines of defense. They have shitty positions and we hold all the cards. And this guy is pretending that we're somehow losing and the world will go to hell.

"What he needs now is to align his words with his actions and resist fully the Russian and Chinese attempt to remove America from the global power equation. That is the way to solve our North Korean problem, our Syrian problem, and many of our problems besides."

Ah, a globalist. What a fucking surprise. Globalism doesn't solve problems, it creates them. How else can it justify its existence?

Trump was right again about voter fraud, this time from New Hampshire
[American Thinker] President Trump was upbraided in the press for stating that illegal out-of-state voters swung the New Hampshire vote to Hillary Clinton in a state he otherwise would have won in the presidential election of 2016.

Mixing news with opinion, the Boston Globe, under the headline, "Trump makes groundless N.H. vote fraud claims," led with:

WASHINGTON ‐ President Trump has revived unproven voter fraud allegations, telling a group of senators in a private meeting Thursday that he lost New Hampshire last November because thousands of Massachusetts residents were bused to the neighboring state to cast ballots against him.

The president offered no evidence to support the claim.

WMUR, an area broadcaster, had the same kind of mixed news-opinion reporting here.

But it turns out that Trump was objectively right all along, and not for the first time.

According to Rowan Scarborough of the Washington Times:

More than 6,500 people registered to vote in New Hampshire on Nov. 8 using out-of-state driver's licenses, and since then the vast majority have neither obtained an in-state license nor registered a motor vehicle.

Conservatives say the state's same-day registration is an invitation for fraud because of loose proof-of-residence rules.

New Hampshire House Speaker Shawn Jasper, a Republican, issued the numbers Thursday based on inquiries he made to the Department of State, which oversees elections, and the Department of Safety.

Since Election Day, Republicans have charged that a significant number of nonresident Democrats, principally from Massachusetts, flowed into New Hampshire to vote illegally, tilting a close race to their party.

And don't think it didn't matter. According to GatewayPundit, Trump lost the state by the narrowest of margins:

New Hampshire was a close race in the 2016 Presidential election. Hillary won the four electoral votes, however; it took a week to count the votes because it was tight. Hillary received 348,521 votes, while Trump picked up 345,789. Trump lost by 0.4 percent.

That's 2,736 votes. The GOP's Sen. Kelly Ayotte lost her seat by an even narrower margin: 1,017 votes.

So, like colonists taking over a puppet state, hordes of mostly Massachusetts voters, upset at the election returns coming in on their TV sets, rolled into the state to take advantage of its same-day registration, plunked down their Massachusetts state driver's licenses, got a voter card, and got in time to illegally cast ballots for Democrats. Their onslaught canceled out the votes of legitimate New Hampshire voters, a violation of state sovereignty if there ever was one. And they illegally shifted the results.

Alexander faces charges of felony theft, stemming from a previous employer who claims the activist received payments between $2,500 and $30,000 from clients without transferring them to the company, the Dallas Observer reported. Alexander was thrust into the national spotlight in July 2016 after chaos erupted in Dallas during a Black Lives Matter anti-police protest when an angry protestor opened fire on police, killing five and wounding seven. Alexander’s Next Generation Action Network sponsored and helped organize the protest.

"I’m so beyond outraged. This is a bogus-ass charge. It’s ridiculous," Alexander told the Observer. "This is a civil issue. If I owe this guy money, this is a civil issue."

Alexander pleaded guilty in 2009 to causing serious bodily injury to a 2-year-old and was subsequently sentenced to probation, FOX 4 Dallas reported. His repeated probation violations led to a final sentence of two years in prison in August 2016, but a judge counted his years of probation against his two-year sentence, and he spent less than a month in jail.

The day before his arrest, Alexander was participating in the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue near Dallas. He now faces up to two years in prison if he is convicted of the theft charges.

#4  but the car ramming into a crowd after being hit with baseball bats is indicative of white supremacist movements etc...

Given that a number of mainstream media sources, including CBS News, reported that one of car rammer Alex Field's high school teachers said that sometime before ninth grade Mr. Field was diagnosed and medicated for schizophrenia -- very early for that disease to blossom -- his interest in fringe racism merely happens to be the direction his delusions took, rather than a meaningful political choice. He could equally have been convinced he was an agent of the Archangel Michael or a member of the unicorn guild.

Professors arrested during pro-DACA protest in Boston
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Professors from Harvard University and other Boston-area colleges were enjugged
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
Thursday while protesting against President Trump’s plan to rescind an Obama-era program shielding young illegal immigrants colonists from deportation.

Thirty-one people, including professors from Harvard, Babson, and Boston College, were arrested after forming a human chain and blocking traffic along Massachusetts Avenue, The Harvard Crimson reported.

Cambridge Police Department front man Jeremy Warnick said the protesters refused police orders to move.

"They were given multiple opportunities to continue their free speech, but off the main road, and they refused to move," Mr. Warnick told the Boston Globe.

Police said the protesters face charges of disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. They were scheduled to appear before a judge Friday morning, the Crimson reported.

Tim Kaine: ‘I Don’t Know Enough About Antifa’
[DAILYCALLER] Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine says he does not know much about so-called members of "antifascist"

(Antifa) groups but says it is unfair to paint them with a broad brush.
... and he just can't find information on them anywhere!
When asked by The Daily Caller Thursday if Antifa

should be considered a terrorist organization, Kaine replied: "I don’t like broad brushes and I don’t know enough about them to say that they’re forces of Evil but people who do violent things. The law should take care of them."

The Department of Homeland Security has called the activities of Antifa "domestic terrorist violence," according to Politico.

Kaine’s son, Linwood, was jugged

back in March at a pro-Trump rally at Minnesota’s state Capitol on misdemeanor charges in connection with lighting smoke bombs.

The younger Kaine was accused of taking part in Antifa activities against Trump supporters.

When asked about his son’s arrest at the time of his son’s arrest the Senator said through a spokeswoman to CNN: "We love that our three children have their own views and concerns about current political issues. They fully understand the responsibility to express those concerns peacefully."

Sen. Kaine, along with Democratic Sen. Mark Warner and Republican Sens. Cory Gardner and Johnny Isakson, signed a bipartisan resolution Wednesday condemning "white nationalists, white supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazis and other hate groups" for their role in the violence in Charlottesville, Va., last month, but does not mention so called anti-fascist groups.

12-Year-Old Boy Who Transitioned To Female Changes His Mind Two Years Later
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] An Australian schoolboy who decided to transition into a female has changed his mind two years later.

At just 12-years-old, Patrick Mitchell, begged with his mother to begin taking oestrogen hormones after doctors diagnosed him with gender dysphoria ‐ a condition where a person experiences distress because there is a mismatch between their biological sex and gender identity.

"You wish you could just change everything about you, you just see any girl and you say I'd kill to be like that", Mitchell told 60 Minutes.

After heeding advice from professionals who suggested that it was right choice, his mother was fully supportive and Mitchell began to transition.

He grew out his hair and started to take the hormones, which caused his body to grow breasts. But two years on, Mitchell had a change of heart.

In the beginning of 2017, teachers at school began to refer to him as a girl which triggered Mitchell to question if he had made the right decision.

"I began to realise I was actually comfortable in my body. Every day I just felt better," he told Now To Love.

As a result, Mitchell confided in his mother and explained that he wanted to transition back into a boy.

"He looked me in the eye and said ’I'm just not sure that I am a girl’", his mother explained.

Now, in a bid to revert back to his original body, he has stopped taking his medication and is about to have an operation to remove excess breast tissue in what will be the final stage of his transition.

While gender dysphoria is rare, the number of people being diagnosed with the condition is increasing, due to growing public awareness.

A survey of 10,000 people undertaken in 2012 by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found that 1% of the population surveyed was gender variant, to some extent.

If you think you or your child may have gender dysphoria, the NHS suggests seeing your GP who, if necessary, can then refer you to a specialist Gender Identity Clinic (GIC).

Elders 'ban' musical gatherings in Landi Kotal
[DAWN] Seminary organisers in the town of Landi Kotal in the Federally Administered Tribal Area on Friday allegedly announced a ban on musical gatherings in the area, sources in the political administration told DawnNews.

Syed Mohammad Ilyas Banuri alias Khan Lala and Syed Muhammad Ibrahim alias Bacha Jan, organisers of the Khanqah-e-Binoria seminary, allegedly announced the restriction on musical gatherings in the Shinwari Ashkhel area, the sources said.

The organisers warned that the houses of those either holding musical gatherings or in possession of musical instruments would be burnt, the sources claimed.

According to sources, a few days ago, the organisers of the seminary had allegedly ransacked weddings in the area and seized musical instruments being played there.

Today, after Friday prayers and in the presence of hundreds of people, the men allegedly burnt the instruments, the sources said.

Niaz Mohammad, an assistant political agent, told DawnNews that the administration has summoned Khan Lala after taking notice of the incident.

"We will ask him [Khan Lala] what capacity he made such statements in when there is a political administration available. If something objectionable is happening, then it is up to the administration to take action not an individual."

RAB finds blueprint for attack on multi-storey in busted Mirpur den
[Dhaka Tribune] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Spokesman Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan said they are now on the lookout for slain Mirpur myrmidon Abdullah’s suspected cohort "Don Bhai".

"While talking to us over the phone Abdullah mentioned about ’Don Bhai.’ We are now looking for him," he said while describing the conversation with the myrmidon regarding their surrender.

The RAB official said: "We are also trying to collect information about five to six other cohorts of Abdullah."

Terming Abdullah a notorious New JMB leader, he said: "He [Abdullah] had built a laboratory in the den to make explosives. We recovered IEDs from the flat. They were made in the den."

Earlier, the elite force recovered a blueprint of a multi-storey building from the hideout. The Death Eaters had marked out spots in the blueprint.

"We are assuming that the Death Eaters might have had a plan to attack a big establishment," Mufti said.

He said: "Abdullah used to work at an electrical store where he made and repaired Instant Power Supply (IPS) units. The presence of the design and explosives led us to believe that they were probably planning to attack a multi-storey building."

CHP lawmaker faces probe after Erdogan criticizes his remarks over armed drone attacks
[Hurriyet Daily News] An Ankara prosecutor filed an indictment against main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul politician Sezgin Tanrikulu on Sept. 8, after he voiced concerns over allegations that an armed drone in the southeastern province of Hakkari shot four citizens, leaving one dead.

The probe came after President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
lashed out at Tanrikulu earlier in the day, saying that "the drones only shot terrorists."

"Where are those civilians?" Erdogan said on Sept. 8 before embarking on a trip to Kazakhstan, adding that armed drones "shot only terrorists."

"These individuals have come to a point where they are defending dead terrorists," he added, referring to the politician.

"There is strong evidence that he has defamed the legitimacy of the Ottoman Turkish state by posting a message on Twitter alleging that an unmanned aerial vehicle [UAV] of the Ottoman Turkish state has shot civilians and killed them," the Ankara Public Prosecutor’s office stated on Sept. 8.

Tanrikulu had said on his Twitter account on Sept. 7 that four civilians were bombed by an armed drone on Aug. 31 in Hakkari, killing one civilian.

China-Japan-Koreas
China bank downgraded to junk status
[DAWN] China’s fifth-largest state-owned bank has had its credit rating downgraded to junk status by Moody’s, the latest sign of fragility in the country’s financial system.

The decision to downgrade Bank of Communications was based on the lender’s lack of customer deposits and over-reliance on expensive and volatile alternative sources of funding, Moody’s said Thursday.

It follows a Chinese government crackdown on banks using excessive leveraging, including unregulated "shadow banking".

"Moody’s review on BoCom was triggered by the bank’s increasing reliance on wholesale funds in recent years and declining profitability," said the credit ratings agency in a statement on Thursday.

The downgrade was driven by BoCom’s "weaker funding profile when compared to other state-owned Chinese banks," particularly weaker deposit holdings, it said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
An old American rifle gains prominence in Islamic State propaganda footage
[WAPO] As the Islamic State battles to hold what remains of its capital in Syria, the terror group ‐ as it did during the fight for Mosul ‐ has released propaganda footage highlighting their defense. The 38-minute video, filmed in Raqqa and released Tuesday, cycles through the Islamic State’s standard fare of suicide bombings, sniper attacks and street fighting.

In a segment showcasing the militants’ sniper detachment, one U.S.-made rifle is featured prominently. The type of weapon, a modified 7.62mm M14 called an Enhanced Battle Rifle, has appeared with the Islamic State before, along with a Syrian rebel group that once had backing from the Pentagon and Iraqi Special Operation forces.

Militants on battlefields from Afghanistan to Syria have long-displayed Western-made arms in their propaganda. The weapons are usually given to commanders and elite fighters to distinguish them from regular foot soldiers. The most prevalent American weapon found on foreign battlefields is arguably the gas-operated M-16 rifle, a mainstay in U.S. armories since the Vietnam War and sold and lost by the United States and its proxy forces ever since. The black rifle, with its hallmark triangular front sight, has been a staple with the Islamic State since it overran large swaths of Iraq in 2014, routing Iraqi security forces and taking large stores of U.S.-supplied weapons and ammunition.

What makes the appearance of the M14 somewhat unique is its age and relative rarity in the U.S. military compared to the widely issued M-16. Though the M14 appears in the Islamic State video with a scope and a modern furnishing, allowing the shooter to attach accessories, the core, or action, of the weapon derives from the World War II-era M1 Garand rifle.

The M14 was designed to replace the M1 Garand in the years following the Korean War. Unlike the M-16 and its carbine variants, the M14 was only issued for less than a decade. Weighing more than 10 pounds loaded and roughly three-feet long, the M14 was introduced when rifle designs were rapidly evolving. In the late 1950s the Soviets were busy adopting and fielding the Kalashnikov series of rifles.

Hartford Warns It Will Be Broke In 60 Days
Well, that escalated quickly.

Just two months after Standard & Poor’s downgraded its general obligation debt to junk status, warning that the historic Connecticut capital could soon follow other once-proud cities like Detroit into bankruptcy, Hartford city officials confirmed as much when they warned on Thursday that the city could be forced into insolvency within two months if the state doesn’t provide emergency financial relief, the WSJ reports.

“City officials warned Gov. Dannel Malloy, a Democrat, and state lawmakers that Hartford, which has a deficit approaching $50 million, wouldn’t be able to pay all of its bills within 60 days. Hartford officials said it would file for bankruptcy at that point unless the state legislature passes a budget that gives the city more funding or otherwise provides it with more cash.

‘We face the greatest fiscal crisis in our city’s history,’ officials said in a letter signed by Mayor Luke Bronin, Treasurer Adam Cloud and Thomas Clarke II, president of the court of common council.”
Hartford has been plagued by political corruption and a disintegrating corporate tax base – most recently exemplified by health-insurance giant Aetna’s decision to move its corporate headquarters away from the city, which was once proudly called “the Insurance Capital of the World.”

No UN blue berets for Libya insists UNSMIL
[Libya Herald] Reports in a number of Libyan media outlets that UN Special Envoy Ghassan Salamé said that the UN intended to send peacekeeping forces to Libya have been firmly denied by the UN special mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

In a statement today, it insisted that all that Salamé had said was that, with UNSMIL progressively returning to Libya, it was increasing its staff there including security staff for the UN compound in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
"UNSMIL is a political mission and its mandate, as set by the UN Security Council, does not allow the presence of a peacekeeping force (or as mentioned Blue Helmets) to operate in Libya," the statement read.

It repeated its commitment to Libya’s illusory sovereignty, unity and integrity.

The Air Force's 'rods from god' could hit with the force a nuclear weapon ‐ but with no fallout
[Business Insider] The 107-country Outer Space Treaty signed in 1967 prohibits nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons from being placed or used from Earth's orbit. What they didn't count on was the US Air Force's most simple weapon ever: a tungsten rod that could hit a city with the explosive power of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

During the Vietnam War, the US used what it called "Lazy Dog" bombs. These were simply solid steel pieces, less than 2 inches long, fitted with fins. There was no explosive — they were simply dropped by the hundreds from planes flying above Vietnam.

Lazy Dog projectiles (aka "kinetic bombardment") could reach speeds of up to 500 mph as they fell to the ground and could penetrate 9 inches of concrete after being dropped from as little as 3,000 feet.

#2  Looks like the launch industry could be gearing up for this.

From Wikipedia,

As early as August 2014, media sources noted that the US launch market may have two competitive super-heavy launch vehicles available in the 2020s to launch payloads of 100 metric tons (220,000 lb) or more to low-Earth orbit. The US government is currently developing the Space Launch System (SLS), a heavy-lift launch vehicle for lifting very large payloads of 70 to 130 tonnes (150,000 to 290,000 lb) from Earth. On the commercial side, SpaceX is privately developing the Interplanetary Transport System, which is being designed to lift a 300 tonnes (660,000 lb) payload to Earth orbit in reusable mode, or 550 tonnes (1,210,000 lb) in expendable mode. SpaceX has played down the competitive aspect with SLS.
Posted by: phil_b || 09/09/2017 1:12 Comments || Top||

#3  ...Not exactly.

'Lazy Dog' is another name for a flechette (in this case a slightly larger one), and they will NOT, repeat NOT go through 9 inches of concrete. They will thoroughly fu@k up any human/animal they hit, but that's it.

The 'rod from god' is a great theoretical idea, but we're actually talking about a piece of tungsten the size of a telephone pole in order to do any significant damage - and we're talking about a LOT of them to take out a city. In terms of a precision weapon to take out a single fortified/buried site, they have some promise, but the cost and complexity of getting them in orbit has so far been the main (and possibly permanent) stumbling block.

US-backed SDF to announce operation in Syria’s Deir al-Zor
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces are set to announce an operation against ISIS in the north of Deir al-Zor province, a senior SDF official told Rooters on Friday.

The operation, which aims to push ISIS back from northern parts of Deir al-Zor, will be formally announced on Saturday, the official said.

With US-led air cover and special forces, the SDF alliance of mostly Kurdish and Arab militias is battling to oust ISIS from Raqqa city, upstream along the Euphrates river.

Spearheaded by the Kurdish YPG militia, the SDF says it has taken 65 percent of Raqqa city from ISIS.

In the Deir al-Zor assault, the SDF would push towards the Euphrates River from the east of the province, which borders
Iraq.

The operation will likely bring the US-backed militias into closer proximity with the Syrian military and allied forces, who have advanced on Deir al-Zor city.

here on Thursday set 24 hours deadline to the government to expel the ambassador of Myanmar otherwise his party workers would storm "red zone" in Islamabad.

"If the government does not expel Myanmar’s ambassador till Friday, our workers will cross the red zone," a statement quoted Senator Sirajul Haq as saying while addressing a function of women.

He said that JI had planned to stage protest rally outside Myanmar embassy after Friday prayers to show solidarity with Rohingya Moslems, who were fleeing their country. He said that Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal requested him not to cross the red zone.

The JI chief alleged that Myanmar government started genocide of Moslems and except the Ottoman Turkish president, leaders of other Islamic countries remained silent spectators over atrocities in Myanmar. He said that JI would not cross red zone if government expelled the ambassador on Friday.

Environmentalists File New Challenges to Trump’s Border Wall Prototypes
[FREEBEACON] An environmental group challenging the construction of President Donald Trump

’s border wall and prototype projects in San Diego expanded its lawsuit challenging the Homeland Security Department’s authority to waive environmental laws in order to move forward with the project.

The new filing in U.S. District Court argues that then-Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly did not have the constitutional or other legal authority to waive dozens of environmental laws to "rush construction of the border wall and prototypes."

"The waiver highlights the Trump administration’s dangerous disregard for our environment and the rule of law," Brian Segee, a senior attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity, which filed the lawsuit, said in a statement. "Trump is willing to throw environmental protections out the window and fulfill his divisive

"What’s to stop him from using this lawless approach to wreck wildlife refuges and beautiful public lands all along the border?" he added.

Trump not worried if deal with Dems upsets GOP, says White House
[WASHINGTONTIMES] President Trump is not concerned that he angered some Capitol Hill Republicans by striking a deal with Democrats to quickly pass emergency disaster relief, the White House said Friday, saying it was more important to break the gridlock in Congress.

"The biggest message is we are a lot less focused on what makes Congress happy and [instead on] what makes Americans better and stronger," said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. "He’s going to continue working with whoever is interested in moving the ball forward to help the American people."

Mr. Trump blindsided Republican leaders and riled conservative politicians with the deal that tied a short-term increase in the debt limit and spending to keep the government open until mid-December with the emergency disaster relief.
Chuck Schumer is a more reliable partner than John McCain and Susan Collins.
The package was headed to Mr. Trump’s desk after winning final approval from Congress earlier in the day.

Mrs. Sanders said the deal-making was one of the reason voters sent Mr. Trump to the White House.

"The president’s focus was doing what is best for the American people. And that’s why he’s the president," she said. "People wanted somebody to be a leader. They wanted someone who was going to step up and take action, and that’s exactly what the president did."

Three detained for ‘recruiting militants for ISIL’ in Turkey’s south
[Hurriyet Daily News] Police detained three suspects in the southern province of Adana on Sept. 8 for allegedly recruiting faceless myrmidons to the Islamic State

of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Counter-terrorism police launched an operation supported by a police helicopter and special operation forces targeting suspects who had reportedly been recruiting faceless myrmidons for the jihadist group in the province in the early hours of the morning.

They later raided spotted houses while police armed with long-barreled weapons and armored vehicles took security measures around the addresses.

After conducting detailed searches at the addresses, three suspects were detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning following their health checks at the local forensics institute.

The jihadist group has carried out a series of deadly attacks in the country in recent years.

Security forces have so far detained more than 5,000 ISIS suspects and deported 3,290 foreign faceless myrmidons from 95 different countries, according to official figures.

Werfalli defies arrest warrant and executes 5 prisoners
[Libya Observer] Dignity Operation field commander, Mahmoud al-Werfalli, committed on Thursday yet another summary execution of captives, 24 days after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against him for war crimes in Benghazi.

Despite Dignity Operation’s claims that al-Werfalli is under arrest, the serial killer travelled to the town of Ajdabiya, some 170 southwest of Benghazi, and carried out a summary execution of 5 prisoners, turning a deaf ear to the ICC arrest warrant and the western countries that called for his handover.

Local sources from Ajdabiya said al-Werfalli executed the 5 prisoners by firing squad in broad daylight near Sayarat roundup, a marketplace for people to buy and sell cars.

The five victims had been tossed in the slammer
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
by so-called Ajdabiya Operation Room, the sources indicated.

The ICC issued an arrest warrant of the notorious Saiqa commander on August 15. Later, the front man of Dignity Operation, Ahmed al-Mismari, claimed that al-Werfalli had been arrested and was investigated by the military prosecutor.

Militia groups of Dignity Operation have voiced utter rejection to the arrest warrant.

No plans to charge Lois Lerner in IRS scandal
[FOXNEWS] The Trump administration has no plans to charge former IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
official Lois Lerner
...the former head of the IRS Exempt Unit. She is a past president of the Council on Governmental Ethics Laws and a member of the Massachussetts bar. She was held in contempt of Congress for her role in the IRS targeting of regime political enemies and refusing to testify. The dog ate her computer's hard drive with all her emails on it...
over her role in the Tea Party targeting scandal, the Justice Department said Friday in response to calls by Republican politicians to revisit the case.

In a letter to the politicians, the Justice Department said that "reopening the criminal investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence."

This past April, House Boodle Central Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., had asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to take a "fresh look" at the case.

Despite numerous hearings and inquiries into the tough treatment of conservative groups by the tax agency during the 2010 and 2012 elections, the Obama Justice Department had announced in 2015 that no one at the IRS would be prosecuted. They said at the time that Sherlocks had "found no evidence that any IRS official acted based on political, discriminatory, corrupt or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution."

Houthis drown Sanaa with Iranian slogans to mark Eid al-Ghadeer
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias have drowned the Yemeni capital Sanaa with thousands of sectarian banners and slogans as they prepare to mark Eid al-Ghadeer, a Iranian Shiite tradition. Yemenis are generally not familiar with this festival, which falls on 18 of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Eid al-Ghadeer is the Shiite celebration of what they believe was Ali ibn Ali Talib’s appointment as leader by Prophet Mohammed. The Houthis promoted the event and focused on propagating the concept of the "wilaya" and their alleged right to govern.

The slogans and banners provoked Yemenis residing in Sanaa as many of them believe Houthis have taken things too far by adopting Iranian Shiite rituals and celebrations thus harming co-existence and tolerance.

Imposing customs
Yemeni activists took to social media to slam the Houthis’ approach of exploiting the Shiite sect to impose their presence by force. They said that the Houthis’ practices reflect the Iranians’ influence in using the Houthis as a destructive tool in the region.

Political analyst Dr Mohammed Jumeih said: "the Iranians’ slogans invaded the streets of the Arabs’ capital Sanaa," while Member of Parliament Ahmad Hashed said the slogans were as "stupid as those who raised them."

Political analyst Faisal al-Mujaidi said the Houthis’ recent move confirms that the movement’s approach is entirely linked to the agenda of the party which has funded and planned their seizure of power in Sanaa and other areas.

He added that Iran thinks the Houthis are their most loyal wing in the region as they are offering it free services by raising such slogans and propagating their ideas.

India-Pakistan
Our Afghanistan policy
[DAWN] THE National Assembly, the government and the COAS have categorically rejected President Trump’s allegations against Pakistain. The furious outrage of the political and military elite in Pakistain brings to mind Hamlet’s mother who said "the lady doth protest too much, methinks" which questions the credibility of overreactions. The reaction in Pakistain obscures the fact that none of Trump’s charges against Pakistain are new and none of Pakistain’s denials are entirely convincing ‐ even among Paks. The first sensible reaction has been from Pakistain’s much maligned diplomatic envoys who reportedly "urged the government to avoid any knee-jerk reactions and prefer diplomacy to confrontation".

It is true the US has not provided evidence of alleged Pak assistance to the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
insurgency in Afghanistan. The border is porous, people flow back and forth, and complete border control is impossible. Building border fences unilaterally will exacerbate rather than alleviate tensions. Moreover, there are legitimate Pak contacts with "the political wings" of the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani network apparently to urge them to come to the negotiating table for a peace settlement with Kabul. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
this is a scenario in which games can be played ‐ and are played.

Pakistain’s reaction does not take into account that a frustrated Trump, whose presidency hangs in the balance, may be looking for a "splendid little war" to divert domestic attention from his dismal and embarrassing performance at home and whip up support for ’the chief slaying monsters abroad.’ North Korea is not on the menu because China would intervene in any American assault. It is less clear what China’s reaction would be to another Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
-like assault on targets in Pakistain beyond robust denunciation.

Trump’s generals in Washington and Afghanistan approved his warnings to Pakistain and his authorising them to take any action they think appropriate without seeking his further approval. These are likely to be drone attacks and ’black ops’ by special forces who do not require access to air or ground routes in Pakistain. The generals saw the reaction of Pakistain to the raid on Abbottabad in May 2011 and are not likely to be deterred from similar or escalated action again. Given the professional advice of Pakistain’s diplomats, it is not clear what the foreign minister meant by a "paradigm shift" in foreign policy.

The BRICS statement referred to four bad boy organizations located in Pakistain as threats to regional security. They are on the UN terrorist list and are banned but active in Pakistain. Given Trump’s statement, the China-India disengagement from Doklam, and the Xi-Modi meeting on the sidelines of the Xiamen summit there is a worrying query: is China gently but publicly pressing Pakistain to take down organizations on its territory who have links with snuffies on Chinese territory? If Pakistain is silly enough to ignore this message it will progressively upset China and sow doubts in Chinese minds about their strategic partnership with Pakistain. This would inevitably impact CPEC. If this happens Pakistain will have kicked itself in the face again!

Home secy told to decide JuD leaders representation by 11th
[DAWN] The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

home secretary to decide by Sept 11 a representation of Jamatud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
and four other leaders against their detention.

Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi passed the order on a writ petition of JuD leaders challenging their detention orders issued on July 28, 2017, under sub-section 1 of Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order, 1960, for a period of next 60 days.

Advocate AK Dogar argued there was no evidence with the government that the petitioners were planning to spread chaos in the country or that they had planned violent demonstrations.

He said the government in the impugned detention orders had only shown apprehension with regard to petitioners. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
he said, under the law no presumption and assumption could give rise to any apprehension unless it was supported by some piece of evidence.

The counsel argued an order of preventive detention had to satisfy the requirements laid down by the Supreme Court in its many judgments but in the instant case blatant violation of laws had been committed by the government.

Russia claims killing of IS 'minister of war' in Syria
[DAWN] Russia claimed on Friday to have killed several top commanders of the murderous Moslem Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group in an air strike in Syria, including the US-trained "minister of war" who has a $3 million bounty on his head.

"As a result of a precision air strike of the Russian air forces in the vicinity of Deir Ezzor city, a command post, communication centre and some 40 IS fighters have been killed," the Russian defence ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook.

"According to confirmed data, among the killed fighters are four influential field commanders including Deir Ezzor emir Abu Mohammed al-Shimali," the ministry said.

Gulmurod Khalimov, who is known as the IS group's minister of war and the highest-ranking defector from ex-Soviet Tajikistan, suffered a "fatal injury," it added.

Reports of Khalimov's death have surfaced before, and the Tajik interior ministry said that it could not immediately confirm the claim.

"We are working with our Russian colleagues to obtain reliable information," a front man told AFP.

But a front man for the Tajik security services, speaking to AFP, suggested that "this time around" he might have been killed.

"We're checking the information," he said.

In 2016, the United States offered a $3m bounty for information leading to Khalimov's location or arrest.

Russia's SU warplanes dropped "bunker buster" bombs on the fighters as they were meeting near Deir Ezzor to discuss how to respond to the advance of the Syrian army, Moscow said.

Backed by Russia, Syrian troops on Tuesday broke through a years-long siege imposed by IS faceless myrmidons on tens of thousands of civilians in Deir Ezzor.

The Times reported in April that Khalimov, described as the highest-ranking IS commander in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, had been killed in an Arclight airstrike.

The trained sniper and former colonel, he was apparently maimed in 2015 but survived.

He headed the Tajik interior ministry's special forces unit and received American training before joining IS in 2015, pledging allegiance to the jihadist group in a video released in May 2015.

In the footage he warned that he and other IS recruits based in the Middle East were "coming" for brass hats in the mainly Moslem Tajikistan, including long-ruling President Emomali Rakhmon.

The high-profile defection rocked the country.

Last year, his second wife, herself a former interior ministry official, fled Tajikistan with her three young children to join Khalimov in Syria.

His eldest son, 18-year-old Bekhruz, also tried to join his father in Syria but was detained at the Dushanbe airport, and sentenced this summer to 10 years in prison.

In July, police in Tajikistan killed four of Khalimov's relatives in a shootout, an interior ministry source has said, and three other relatives were detained.

The source claimed that all of those killed or detained were IS "supporters" and said they were intending to flee to neighbouring Afghanistan, but did not offer any proof to back up the claims.

Tolerance threshold for militancy
[DAWN] Where differences of opinions crop up with the outside world or even with their critics within the country is on, for example, how to handle groups that the military believes have never gone rogue in Pakistain.

...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
leader Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
to his men to contest elections under the banner of a new party he has created is seen as one such step. Moreover, this newspaper has carried news stories that another murderous Moslem leader, Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil
...one of the signers of Osama bin Laden's declaration of war against Christians and Jews back in 1998, when he was head of the Bangla jihad movement. The Pak govt's had him under house arrest a few times, but he seems to come and go as he pleases and remains the head of Harkat ul-Mujaheddin...
, is also on the verge of launching a political party for mainstream, electoral politics.

It isn’t clear how would these murderous Moslem groups-turned-political parties will react if they make no headway in electoral politics and their first attempts to secure seats in parliament to enforce their Islamic agenda are frustrated. Will they keep faith in the democratic process and persist or revert to jihad ‐ this time here?

Even if there is a desire in each state institution to brush away the mess created by decades of near-suicidal policies and start with a clean slate, it won’t be easy. And if state institutions continue to differ on the way forward even now then help us God.

In terms of the global environment, China may appear as if it is in our corner vis-à-vis the US but it would be foolish to assume Beijing’s tolerance threshold for religious militancy in Pakistain would be any different to Washington’s. Hope the policymakers understand this.

Rumors Fly That Russia Has Dropped "The Father of All Bombs" in Syria
"A rumor has appeared on social media suggesting that Russia has dropped its most powerful non-nuclear bomb, nicknamed the Father of All Bombs, on ISIS terrorists in Syria. If confirmed, this would be the first time Russia has employed this weapon, which is has otherwise revealed very little about, in combat.

On Sept. 7, 2017, posts appeared on Twitter alleging that witnesses and activists near the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor, had seen the weapon in action.. As yet, though, there has been no reporting in English language Russian news outlets or an official statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense."
.....
The Russians say the complete weapon weighs just over 14,000 pounds and can create a blast equivalent to 44 tons of TNT. This would make it lighter, but more devastating that than U.S. Air Force’s 22,000 pound GBU-43/B Mother of All Bombs (MOAB), which the Russians were clearly referencing with their own nickname.

"Tests show its effectiveness and capabilities are comparable to nuclear weapons," Russian General Colonel Alexander Rukshin, then Deputy Chief of the country’s Armed Forces General Staff, said after the first field test on Sept. 11, 2007. "At the same time, the use of this weapon doesn’t damage or pollute the environment."

Russia claims that the Tu-160 Blackjack super-sonic heavy bomber is the primary means to delivering this massive bomb, but that seems highly unlikely. Official film of the test is heavily edited to show a Tu-160’s bomb bay opening, before cutting abruptly to what looks like the bomb falling way straight out the back of different plane.?

Tanzania's Tundu Lissu recovering after gun attack
[Al Jazeera] Tanzanian opposition politician Tundu Lissu is recovering in a Kenyan hospital after being maimed in a gun attack at his residence in Tanzania's administrative capital, Dodoma, according to his party.

Abdallah Safari, the vice president of main opposition party CHADEMA, said at a news conference on Friday that Lissu was taken to the Aga Khan hospital in neighbouring Kenya's capital, Nairobi, "after a decision by his family and his party".

"His health is improving," he said.

Vincent Mashinji, CHADEMA secretary-general, said: "Those who wanted to kill him have failed."

The motive for the shooting by unknown gunnies was unclear.

Russian airstrike kills around 40 ISIL militants in Syria, including one ‘linked to’ 2015 Paris attacks
[Hurriyet Daily News] Russia said on Sept. 8 to have killed several top commanders of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) group in an Arclight airstrike in Syria, including the "minister of war" who has a bounty on his head.

"As a result of a precision air strike of the Russian air forces in the vicinity of Deir al-Zor city, a command post, communication centre and some 40 ISIS fighters have been killed," the Russian defence ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook.

"According to confirmed data, among the killed fighters are four influential field commanders including Deir al-Zor emir Abu Mohammed al-Shimali," the ministry said.

Apart from smuggling the recruits into Syria, al-Shimali was named by "several European intelligence agencies" as one of the organizers of the fatal November 2015 Gay Paree attacks, the ministry added.

Media reports have previously indicated that French Sherlocks established that at least three of the attackers arrived to La Belle France via refugee roots, with at least one of them obtaining a fake passport from ISIS.

Al-Shimali (also known as Tirad al-Jarba) was an Iraqi-born Soddy Arabia

citizen who defected from al-Qaeda to ISIS in 2015.

The same year, the U.S. State Department offered a bounty of up to $5 million for information leading to al-Shimali’s capture, describing him as "a key leader in ISIS’s Immigration and Logistics Committee" overseeing "smuggling activities, financial transfers, and the movement of supplies into Syria and Iraq from Europe, North Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula."

The Radical Republicans: The ANTIFA of 1865
[Mercer at WND] "Anybody who would trash Lee and laud Lincoln is either stupid as a post or just plain evil," said a sage reader. This applies in spades to anyone who would laud the Radical Republicans of 1865, as one TV GOP blonde has recently, and asininely, done.

The Radical Republicans, if you can believe it, considered Abraham Lincoln a moderate (a bad thing, in their book). Lincoln successor Andrew Johnson these fanatics branded a reactionary (punishable by obstruction and impeachment).

Praised these days by the blonde-ambition faction of the Republican Party, the Radicals were stars of America’s own Reign of Terror over the South, at the end of the War Between the States.

If the French Reign of Terror was led by the terrifying Robespierre and his Jacobins; its American equivalent was infused with the spirit of lunatics like John Brown. (His abolitionist activists snatched five pro-slavery settlers near Pottawatomie Creek, in 1856, and split the captives’ skulls with broadswords, in an act of biblical retribution gone mad.)

Thaddeus Stevens was another of their "inspirational" madmen, lauded in the annals of the Party of Reconstruction. In his biography of Stevens, "Thaddeus Stevens: Nineteenth Century Egalitarian," historian Hans Trefousse even makes a brief reference to the Jacobin Club, a term reserved for the most extreme Republicans in Congress (p. 168). Other club members: Henry Winter Davis, Benjamin Butler, Charles Sumner, Benjamin Wade, Zachariah Chandler.

Although Republicans shared "the drive toward revolution and national unification" (the words of historian Clyde Wilson, in "The Yankee Problem," 2016), the Radicals distinguished themselves in their support for sadistic military occupation of the vanquished Rebel States, following the War Between the States.

#1  America’s own Reign of Terror over the South,

Really. IIRC the only one executed after the surrender was the commandant of the Andersonville prison camp. The French Reign of Terror involved 16,594 official death sentences. Can we say exaggerated beyond the pale.

300 ISIS fighters stranded in the desert, as bait to target jihadists
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bandidos Death Eaters attempting to evacuate members stranded in the Syrian desert are being pummeled by US-led coalition air strikes, the military said Thursday.
This can't be making the Syrians too very unhappy.
'Like moths to a flame,' coalition spokesperson Army Col. Ryan S. Dillon told the military publication Stars and Stripes.

Dillon said that at least 40 vehicles belonging to ISIS have attempted to rescue the stranded jihadists, including armored technical vehicles and a tank disguised as a truck.

'We were able to continue to just observe and pick them off one at a time,' Dillion said.

At least 300 ISIS bandidos Death Eaters and about as many women and kiddies have been marooned in the Syrian desert over the past 10 days, who were seeking passage out of an enclave on the Leb-Syria border after surrendering and brokering a deal with the Lebanese Shi'ite turban group Hezbollah.

But the United States, which was not party to the deal, quickly marshaled coalition forces to halt their progress, and began targeting routes and roadways to Death Eater-held areas farther east.

Airstrikes on roadways and bridges have now left around 11 buses stranded in the middle of nowhere in between Syrian regime and ISIS-held territory on the border with Iraq.

Militants who attempted to execute a scouting mission in recent days were also targeted in Arclight airstrikes after they strayed far enough from the buses to avoid killing civilians.

In all, 85 ISIS fighters have been killed by coalition forces since the convoy was halted.

The US has also disputed claims by Syrian opposition activists that some members of the convoy have made it safely to a nearby turban stronghold.

The convoy 'has not ... and will not reach Iraq,' Brett McGurk, special presidential envoy for the coalition, said Wednesday on Twitter.

The US has also allowed Syrian regime forces to send food and supplies to the stranded convoy.

174 Turkish ISIL militants surrendered in Iraq after liberation of Mosul, Tal Afar
[Hurriyet Daily News] A total of 174 Ottoman Turkish bully boyz of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) have surrendered to the Iraqi army, Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) and Peshmerga forces in Iraq after the liberation of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and Tal Afar from the jihadist group.

The situation of the Death Eaters, who surrendered with their families, are under close surveillance by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s National Intelligence Agency (MIT), while security precautions on the border have been stepped up as a measure against ISIS bully boyz crossing into Turkey.

The jihadist group reportedly has started seeking new strategies after losing territories in Syria’s Raqqa and the entire control over the cities of Mosul and Tal Afar in Iraq. After operations in Iraq, many of the jihadists in the area fled to Syria, while half of them surrendered to different Iraqi groups and authorities.

Authorities have determined that there are 174 Turks among the ISIS bully boyz who surrendered to the Iraqi army, Hashd al-Shaabi and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces. While MIT is following the situation closely, the steps to be taken regarding the bully boyz will be determined in the upcoming days.

In addition, a warning was sent to Ottoman Turkish border units for them to be on high alert in case ISIS bully boyz attempted to infiltrate into the country.

"The ISIS terrorist organization has shown major losses with the latest operations. The bully boyz who are fleeing from the group, which is in the process of breaking down in Iraq and Syria, may enter Turkey through human smugglers or by disguising themselves as refugees," the notice read, adding that "necessary sensitivity on the issue must be shown."

Intelligence units, meanwhile, examined magazines, websites and social media accounts linked to ISIS, determining that ISIS "commanders" sent encrypted messages to the jihadists with orders for them to stage attacks wherever they are.

Turkey is reportedly among the targets of the bully boyz who are planning to stage "lone-wolf" attacks.

Ottoman Turkish authorities have been on high alert against ISIS and staging raids on jihadist cells. With the operations being carried out by intelligence and anti-terror units, some 2,907 people were detained over their links to ISIS in the first eight months of this year.

Elsewhere, it has emerged that two of the three sons of an academic have died while fighting alongside ISIS in Tal Afar.

An assistant professor from Dicle University, identified only by the initials S.I., in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir previously said the three boys had joined ISIS. Authorities have found that the boys, identified only as Suleyman Bengi and Dilar, had died in festivities.

Another one of the siblings, Dilsat, reportedly escaped the festivities in Tal Afar and crossed into Raqqa. He reached out to his family some 45 days ago and told them that he wanted to escape ISIS, but the group was executing those who attempted to do so.

This Week in Guns, September 9th, 2017

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mostly higher. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were lower across the board. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

Following a trend set in the 2nd quarter, prices for used AR pattern semiautomatic rifles continue to drop, this time to a nationwide low of $318. This also is the second time in a row that the average price for this class of rifle has dropped to below $400. For at least the second time since this column was begun, all states reported prices in the $400 to $499 range or less, with three of five reporting prices at $400, and four of five in the $400 to $499 range.

The intermittent price fluctuations suggests that this class of rifles will continue to trade in the $400 to $499 range for some time to come.

Given the general price level of parts and components, however, I fail to see how this trend will be reversed anytime soon.

US adds launchers to THAAD as dozens hurt in S. Korea protests
[DAWN] Dozens of people were maimed in festivities between South Korean protesters and police on Thursday as the US military added more launchers to the high-tech missile-defence system it installed in a southern town to better cope with North Korean threats.

Seoul has hardened its stance against Pyongyang after its torrent of weapons tests, the latest a detonation on Sunday of what North Korea said was a thermonuclear weapon built for missiles capable of reaching the US mainland.

The festivities came as South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe met in Russia’s Far East and repeated their calls for stronger punishment of North Korea over its nuclear ambitions, including denying the country oil supplies.

The demand contradicted the stance of their host, Russian President Vladimir Putin

Government
Buried in backlog, Feds give top-secret clearances to murderers, rapists
[McClatchyDC] Under a crushing backlog in the issuing or renewing of security clearances, federal authorities have given interim clearances to people they later discovered were murderers and pedophiles, a senior government official said Wednesday.

“This is very, very dangerous,” said Daniel E. Payne, head of the Defense Security Service, a federal office that oversees the granting of temporary clearances.

Payne said roughly 100,000 people hold interim clearances while working for companies with Defense Department contracts or at 13,000 cleared facilities and plants around the country and as they await a full comprehensive background investigation.

Payne spoke on a panel about the backlog in security clearances at the Intelligence & National Security Summit in Washington.

The backlog “grew precipitously” in 2015 and 2016, and stands at near record levels today, said Charles S. Phalen, director of the National Background Investigations Bureau, a federal service provider under the Office of Personnel Management.

The backlog encompasses roughly 700,000 cases, but only 300,000 or so people are seeking a first-time clearance to enter government service, Phalen said. The remainder may be federal employees or contractors seeking a periodic renewal of a security clearance or a change in their clearance level, he added. They stay in federal jobs.

Payne, a career counterintelligence officer with the CIA, said the concerns about interim clearances only affect the Defense Department and its associated industrial base, not the nation’s intelligence agencies, where temporary clearances are never granted.

Applicants obtain interim clearances after filling out a lengthy government form, known as an SF-86, and undergoing a credit check and an initial FBI background check.

“You’re looking on average at close to a year for a top-secret clearance,” Payne said, adding that a lower level secret clearance takes an average of nine months.

He said the backlog is so great the Pentagon has little choice but to offer interim clearances to keep weapons development programs at full steam.

“If we did not give these individuals interim clearances, the production of these programs would shut down,” Payne said. “It would have a horrific impact.”

The backlog in security clearances soared in 2014 after one of three major contractors involved in conducting background checks, US Investigations Services LLC, lost its government business amid allegations that it had bungled and falsified results.

Yet checking social media accounts of applicants has not been fully embraced, Beth McGrath, a former Pentagon management officer who now is managing director of federal strategy of Deloitte Consulting said.

“Some people think, ‘Oh, you’re infringing on my privacy,’” said McGrath. “This is where the process of government sometimes feels like it takes more steps than it should because you have to actually change the policy to say we’re going to allow social media information to be part of the background investigation.”

Several officials said they expected the backlog to diminish as federal agencies and departments embrace a process of continuous evaluation of employees rather than periodic reappraisals every five to 10 years. The Defense Department now has 500,000 employees enrolled in the constant vetting program, a number that should grow to one million by year’s end, Payne said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Ethnic tensions begin to show over teaching of Kurdish in Raqqa
[Hurriyet Daily News] The few bullet-marked schools Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) did not flatten or booby trap around its former Syrian stronghold of Raqqa are buzzing for the first time in years with the sound of children learning.

In the village of Hazima, north of Raqqa, teachers gave ad-hoc alphabet lessons to crammed classrooms on a recent summer's day before the start of term.

"Right now, the most important thing is to get children into class," said teacher Ahmed al-Ahmed, standing next to a hole in the school stairwell left by a mine blast that maimed a colleague.

ISIS closed this school and many others in northern Syria after it seized control of the region in 2014, three years into the country's civil war. Instead it taught children bully boy thought in mosques.

But now that the group has been ousted from most territory it held in and around Raqqa by a U.S.-backed military alliance, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a growing debate over education points to the ethnic tensions expected to follow.

What is taught in areas under the control of the SDF, which includes Arab militias but is dominated by the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), is one of many questions over how predominantly Arab parts of northern Syria will be run as they come into the Kurdish fold.

Schools around Raqqa will this year teach a new curriculum that is based on old textbooks but erases the Baathist ideology of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
, a decision agreed on by Arab and Kurdish teachers alike.

But an official in the SDF has floated the immediate introduction of Kurdish lessons in Raqqa schools, an idea that makes local officials bristle.

In contrast with other areas under SDF control that have for years taught Kurdish, there are no plans yet to teach the language in mostly Arab Raqqa.

Officials say it would need broad consensus, hinting at concerns that its introduction too quickly would cause unrest.

"We wouldn't object to Kurdish teaching. But if it's imposed on schools then there will be problems," Ahmed said.

Rooters interviews with SDF officials and local authorities suggest resentment over Kurdish power is brewing over education plans.

A senior SDF adviser and coordinator with the U.S. coalition said he believed Kurdish would be taught to Kurdish pupils around Raqqa this year, following the model for other schools in SDF territory.

"No one has opposed this ... every [ethnic] group has the right to study in its own language," Amed Sido said via the internet.

Officials in the Raqqa Civil Council, the newly-formed local governing body, were taken aback.

"No, that won't happen without consultations with us and agreement in the council," Ammar Hussein, an education committee official, said at its office in the town of Ain Issa. "For now it's in Arabic, with English and French lessons."

The Grand Turk
AKP’s 2019 campaign labels CHP pro-terrorist
[Hurriyet Daily News] An Istanbul prosecutor has launched an investigation against Sezgin Tanrikulu, a prominent politician from the ranks of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), over his claims that civilians had been killed by armed drones as part of the anti-terror fight in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s southeastern region.

What’s more striking is the fact that the judicial move against Tanrikulu came only a few hours after President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
strongly slammed the CHP member at a presser before his departure to Kazakhstan on Sept. 8. This picture alone could be seen yet as another example of the deterioration in the implementation of the very principle of the separation of powers, with concerns that Ottoman Turkish justice has increasingly become politicized in recent years.

Erdogan’s criticisms toward Tanrikulu, however, are rather a part of a larger political plan being implemented by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). In a statement on Sept. 6, Erdogan compared the CHP to terror organizations, saying "Their language is not the normal language of an opposition party; it is almost the language of a terrorist organization." "Whatever they [terrorist organizations] do, they [the CHP] do the same," Erdogan added.

In further remarks on the same issue on Sept. 8, he argued that the CHP was no different from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), describing both parties as having no "national" identity. The AKP and its de facto coalition partner, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), are fully national and local, Erdogan suggested.

Erdogan’s comparisons on these two parties are being closely followed by the Ottoman Turkish judiciary. HDP’s co-chairman Selahattin Demirtas and former co-chairwoman Figen Yuksekdag have been in prison since late 2016. In addition to them, around nine other HDP politicians are also behind bars while four elected politicians have lost their seats in parliament with the votes of AKP and MHP deputies.

Many elected mayors from the HDP have been removed from their posts through governmental decisions on grounds they supported terrorist activities. It’s getting much more difficult for the HDP politicians to conduct politics under these conditions.

The campaign against the opposition has spread to the CHP in mid-June after Enis Berberoglu, a prominent CHP politician and former journalist, was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
on espionage charges. That was why CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu had initiated his "justice march" from Ankara to Istanbul and a "justice congress" late August. The investigation into Tanrikulu fuels concerns that this campaign will likely continue in the upcoming months.

Arresting political rivals on baseless grounds is simply not among the characteristics of democratic regimes. Accusing political parties of supporting terrorism and encouraging judicial action against them has no place in political ethics.

The AKP-MHP duo should immediately abandon their plans to win the 2019 elections through a massive crackdown on their political competitors, if they have anything like that in mind.

Africa North
Benghazi port to open in October
[Libya Herald] The port of Benghazi will reopen on 1 October, according to port authority front man Muftah al-Shuaiby.

It has been closed for more than three years. In 2014, it was effectively controlled by the hard boyz opposed to Operation Karama and at the time the Libyan National Army (LNA) even threatened to bomb it to prevent it being use to supply them.

"We will bomb any ship approaching the coast and hold the port director responsible for it," LNA air force head Major-General Saqr Geroushi said at the time.

Since the rebels’ defeat in July, the authorities have been keen to see the reopening of the port which was the main entry in the east of the country for many imports including wheat and other comestibles.

It had suffered major damage during the conflict in Benghazi due to its close proximity to much of the fighting. In mid-July, the chief of staff and military governor from Ben Jawed to Derna, Major-General Abdul Razzaq al-Nazhuri, visited it to assess the damage and what needed to be done before it could be operational again.
