Russia to cut funds for Donetsk, Lugansk

The Russian 2018 federal budget does not include money for humanitarian aid for the separatist states of Donetsk and Lugansk, according to a Russian language news account.

According to an article that appeared in regnum.ru, during a September 1st meeting with deputy prime minister Dmitry Kozak it was announced that the money normally used for aiding the breakaway republic, 165 million rubles (USD $2,864,584.80), will be shifted to Crimea and to Kalinigrad.

An additional 85 million rubles (USD $1,475,695.20) are to be spent on infrastructure projects in Crimea. Other monies are to be spent in Kaliningrad include for a fiber optic data cable and a new ferry line.

The article goes on to state that, thus far, the meeting was held to flesh out proposals; that all of the line items are proposals. Press requests to one of Russian president Vladimir Putin's aides, Dmitry Peskov and another to the finance ministry have so far been left unanswered.

Both Lugansk and Donetsk have been recipients of Russian financial aide in paying for pensions of local residents that Ukraine has refused to pay. How this shifting of money will affect the pensioners is left unstated.

If the proposals come to fruition, it appears to be a clear signal to the West that Russia is ready to abandon its support of the two republics to their fate at the Minsk negotiating table.

A recent proposal from Putin to use UN peacekeeping troops in the region has been met with approval from the civil leadership of Lugansk and Donetsk, an idea soundly rejected by Ukraine. Despite the lack of news and the relative calm in the region, both sides routinely take pot shots at one another daily, and both sides are causing casualties.

US judge sides against Trump in fight over 'sanctuary cities'
A federal judge on Friday barred the US Justice Department from denying public-safety grants to so-called sanctuary cities in retaliation for limiting cooperation with the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.

The preliminary injunction issued by US District Judge Harry Leinenweber was in response to a legal challenge brought by Chicago, the third-largest city in the United States, but the judge ruled that his order would be applied on a nationwide basis.
I wonder Judge Harry, and a lot of his colleagues, gave thought to the dangers of showing the hoi polloi that the ballots these later cast mean absolutely nothing?

Protesters fill St. Louis streets, [as] ex-cop acquitted of murdering black man
ST. LOUIS - Hundreds of protesters poured into St. Louis streets on Friday, and some scuffles erupted, after a Missouri judge acquitted a former white police officer who was charged with murder in the 2011 fatal shooting of a black man.

...Former city policeman Jason Stockley, 36, was found not guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith, 24, in a verdict rendered by a judge five weeks after the end of a non-jury trial. Stockley said Smith fled in his car when the officer tried to arrest him on drug charges.

Stockley and his partner chased Smith, who was shot five times in his car. The former policeman believed Smith was armed, defense attorneys said. A gun was found in the car, but prosecutors argued Stockley planted the weapon and that gun had only Stockley's DNA on it.

...In his ruling, Judge Timothy Wilson said the state had failed to prove a charge of murder beyond a reasonable doubt, or even a lesser charge such as involuntary manslaughter.

The judge also said he doubted the prosecution's claim the gun was planted, writing: "Finally, the court observes, based on its nearly 30 years on the bench, that an urban heroin dealer not in possession of a firearm would be an anomaly."
Incidentally, would I be correct in assuming that the diseased clients' were mostly African-Americans?

#3  Idjts.

The judge had no choice in the ruling. The Prosecutors decided to go all in for Murder in the First, but the evidence didn't support the charge.

Prosecutors should have gone for a Manslaughter charge. Judge would have probably gone with it. The "target public," at the time charges were announced, however, would have gone bananas about anything but Murder.

It is distressing to see how may of our fellow citizens have no clue as to how our legal system works.

High-Ranking CIA Agent Blows Whistle On The Deep State And Shadow Government
[ZeroHedge] "The shadow government controls the deep state and manipulates our elected government behind the scenes," Shipp warned in a recent talk at a Geoengineeringwatch.org conference.

Shipp had a series of slides explaining how the deep state and shadow government functions as well as the horrific crimes they are committing against U.S. citizens.

Some of the revelations the former CIA anti-terrorism counter intelligence officer revealed included that "Google Earth was set up through the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and InQtel." Indeed he is correct, the CIA and NGA owned the company Google acquired, Keyhole Inc., paying an undisclosed sum for the company to turn its tech into what we now know as Google Earth. Another curious investor in Keyhole Inc. was none other than the venture capital firm In-Q-Tel run by the CIA according to a press release at the time.

Shipp also disclosed that the agency known as the Joint Special Ops Command (JSOC) is the "president’s secret army" which he can use for secret assassinations, overturning governments and things the American people don’t know about.

FBI warrantless searches violate the Fourth Amendment with national security letters, which Shipp noted enables them to walk into your employer’s office and demand all your financial records and if he or she says anything about them being there they can put your supervisor in jail or drop a case against themselves using the "State’s Secret Privilege law."

"The top of the shadow government is the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency," Shipp said.

Shipp expressed that the CIA was created through the Council on Foreign relations with no congressional approval, and historically the CFR is also tied into the mainstream media (MSM.) He elaborated that the CIA was the "central node" of the shadow government and controlled all of other 16 intelligence agencies despite the existence of the DNI. The agency also controls defense and intelligence contractors, can manipulate the president and political decisions, has the power to start wars, torture, initiate coups, and commit false flag attacks he said.

As Shipp stated, the CIA was created through executive order by then President Harry Truman by the signing of the National Security Act of 1947.

According to Shipp, the deep state is comprised of the military industrial complex, intelligence contractors, defense contractors, MIC lobbyist, Wall St (offshore accounts), Federal Reserve, IMF/World Bank, Treasury, Foreign lobbyists, and Central Banks.

In the shocking, explosive presentation, Shipp went on to express that there are "over 10,000 secret sites in the U.S." that formed after 9/11. There are "1,291 secret government agencies, 1,931 large private corporations and over 4,800,000 Americans that he knows of who have a secrecy clearance, and 854,000 who have Top Secret clearance, explaining they signed their lives away bound by an agreement.

He also detailed how Congress is owned by the Military Industrial Complex through the Congressional Armed Services Committee (48 senior members of Congress) giving those members money in return for a vote on the spending bill for the military and intelligence budget.

He even touched on what he called the "secret intelligence industrial complex," which he called the center of the shadow government including the CIA, NSA, NRO, and NGA.

Shipp further stated that around the "secret intelligence industrial complex" you have the big five conglomerate of intelligence contractors ‐ Leidos Holdings, CSRA, CACI, SAIC, and Booz Allen Hamilton. He noted that the work they do is "top secret and unreported."

The whistleblower remarked that these intelligence contractors are accountable to no one including Congress, echoing the words of Senator Daniel Inouye when he himself blew the whistle on the shadow government during the Iran-Contra hearings in 1987.

At the time Inouye expressed that the "shadow government had its own funding mechanism, shadowy Navy, and Air Force freedom to pursue its own goals free from all checks and balances and free from the law itself."

#4  The political impetus -- there were other, non-political, ones -- of the "60s protests" was this sense of power not being where it was supposed to be, what and where we were taught it was supposed to be and could see, as if through a mirror dimly, that it wasn't.

The political impetus of the Tea Party Movement / Trump Movement is essentially the same and just as justified.

If that is true, there is ground for expecting success from auspicious developments.

That is the pot (CIA) calling the kettle (DoD) black, which itself is a false equivalence. An unworthy, fear-mongering and rather gorgeous bit of CIA misdirection, but not surprising.

Still, Democratic Administrations do tend to have high domestic body counts, all unsolved, and somebody has to be ordering that and somebody has to be making it happen.

#8  The Goldwater-Nichols act, October 4, 1986 Pub.L. 99–433 took Special Operations Forces (SOF) funding away from the 'Big Army' and gave SOF their own budget. Pals before, SOF now became the dedicated handmaiden of an agency with a secret and by some accounts, unlimited budget. You lose funding, you lose control.
The rest is history.

The part about SOF being a private army of the president is hokum. The president is the Commander in Chief of the entire military. The relationship of SOF and the Klingon's solidified with Goldwater-Nichols.

My opinion anyway.

#9  Once SOC was exposed to the public eye, they began to fall under the undiscriminating scrunity of the money handlers, thus lost their unaffiliated status.

DACA Amnesty May Trigger Flood of 4-6M Foreign Nationals democrats, Not 800K
[Breitbart] Should President Trump follow through on a deal where nearly 800,000 illegal aliens are allowed to remain in the United States and eventually obtain U.S. citizenship, research shows it would create a flood of four to six million chain migrants coming to the United States.

Trump, who adamantly opposed the amnesty for illegal aliens protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, is now defending the recipients of the program, as well as leveraging a deal where the foreign nationals could seek a pathway to citizenship through legal status, as Breitbart News reported.

Today, Trump signaled to his supporters that he opposed any sort of chain migration that would follow a DACA amnesty deal, though the deals the White House and Congress are reviewing would all cause such an immigration crisis:

#1  It will dilute the genuine voting rights of conservative citizens beyond recovery across a number of states, and you will get California-like voting results in enough places like Arizona and Texas to make the electoral college numbers permanently elect one party. Once that is cemented expect huge tax increases, special exemptions or credits for favored identity groups, gun confiscation and the slide to socialism and beyond. This used to be the stuff of far-right fear-mongering, but it is now poised to be the tipping point for our nation. Fight DACA in every way you can!

Afghanistan
CIA pushing to expand authority to use drone strikes
[The Hill] The CIA is pushing to expand its authority to use covert drone strikes in Afghanistan despite objections from the Pentagon, according to a report from The New York Times.

The Pentagon has typically taken the lead on airstrikes in conflict zones. If the CIA’s request is approved by President Trump, it would be the first time the agency would be able to perform such strikes in Afghanistan.

The White House is reportedly open to the idea, which would loosen Obama-era restrictions on the CIA.

The Obama administration tightened rules on what the CIA was able to in Afghanistan and other countries in an effort to prevent civilian deaths. But the Trump administration wants to loosen those rules to more effectively target radical Islamic extremists.

CIA Director Mike Pompeo hinted at increased efforts against terror groups in an interview Monday on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

"If I were them, I'd count my days," Pompeo told host Bret Baier on Fox News's "Special Report" when asked if there are signs the U.S. is close to catching top al Qaeda leaders such as Ayman al-Zawahiri or the son of Osama bin Laden.

"My team even as we sit here is working diligently to find them and bring them to justice," the former Kansas lawmaker said.

#2  Any recommendations re North Korea, boys?
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 09/16/2017 1:36 Comments || Top||

#3  Some thoughts:

In many ways, China and Pakistan are to Afghanistan as China and Russia are to North Korea. We have not prevailed in Afghanistan because we have not dealt with the actual threat.

You see the massive Russian "exercise" taking place in Belarus (Read about here in this Klingon publication). This is not only an exercise, it is a trip wire. Should the U.S. take military action against the NORKS, the Russians are prepared to create a great deal of mischief in eastern Europe.

Likewise the Chinese stand ready to cross the Yalu and come south as they did in Oct 1950. They will not permit a South Korean take-over of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Chinese would likely use a U.S. strike against the NORKS as justification or an opportunity for military action against Taiwan.

BLUF: Our options (as seen by the Chinese, Russians, and the North Koreans); the U.S. either goes big, or it goes home. It is likely that the state of our military and political will after decades of endless wars precludes major action. The pundits continue to chirp "Options for the U.S. are few." But the pundits are full of kak !

Recommendations:

(1.) End the bombastic war rhetoric and adopt the long game.
(2.) Continue to rebuild the U.S. military.
(2.a.) Begin a systematic extraction of our military from involvement and meddling overseas (endless wars), particularly in the ME and Africa. It should be abundantly clear by now that these efforts are futile, enormously expensive, and quite hopeless.
(2.b.) For the sins of 9/11 and all failures since, downsize the FBI and National Intelligence Community (less NSA) to the strength of a reinforced Infantry Rifle Platoon and rebuild from the ground up.
(2.c.) Terminate the activities of The United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA Court) and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. Find another way to do business, secretive courts who report to no one are not the answer.
(3.) Quietly and without fanfare, provide a tailored nuclear umbrella and response for the Japanese, South Koreans, and possibly the Taiwanese.
(3.a.) Shore up regional military support and intelligence collaboration with Australia, the Philippines, and other friends in the Pacific. The regime of Rodrigo Duterte will not last forever.
(4.) Immediately begin the no-notice, systematic and substantive trade reductions with China. This will have the duel effect of putting their economy in the ditch and assisting our own. Walmart and Target will suffer, but it is long, long overdue.
(4.a.) Give substantial tax incentives to U.S. firms who will take up the slack for Chinese import cutbacks.
(4.b.) Look to the UK, Australian, Taiwan, and New Zealand (yes New Zealand), Israel, Sweden, Norway, and Finland for assistance in taking up slack mention in (4.a.) above.
(5.) Adopt the 'One China' - 'One Taiwan' policy.
(6.) If the Chinese, Russians, and NORKS wish to 'go big', so be it. Let both China and Russia quietly know that a nuclear attack form North Korea against the U.S., Guam, or Japan will be immediately seen as a nuclear attack from Beijing, Moscow, and Pyongyang and will be dealt with as such.

Remain flexible and monitor daily. Modify 1. thru 6. as needed until the pain subsides.

#7  B, really good post. Maybe you should post it as an article so it gets more attention. My comment would be that to be able to play the long game we have to do something about the Fiscal Freight Train that's coming down the tracks. In a sense, our most powerful weapon is the USD, and we're in the process of unilaterally disarming ourselves. Now, how we do something about that in the current political environment remains a mystery to me.
Posted by: Matt || 09/16/2017 11:43 Comments || Top||

#8  Concur with you 'Fiscal Freight Train' comment Matt. Nixon and Kissinger began the wealth transfer to China decades ago as method of introducing those Chinese Communist fellas to a 'market based, democratic economy' with a hope of promoting global peace through democracy.

Kissinger made a very successful career out of wickering Chinese business opportunities for western investors, and continues his efforts today. If there is one thing the Chinese understand, it is BUSINESS. I will refrain from using the tired axiom of the 'you know whats' of the orient. Kissinger might find it offensive.

After fifty plus years of assisting the Communist Chinese bolster their economy via massive trade imbalances, I believe we can now bear witness to the failure of Kissinger's democratization angle (failure that is, for the common man). A colossal cock-up of the first order. They are still totalitarian communists and are likely to remain so.

If our democracy and market economy is to survive, we must re-establish our manufacturing and industrial base. You buy my lawn mower, I buy your polo shirt. If there is anything left over, then purchase an imported Polish ham and have a picnic.

I'm not too concerned about the paranoid Russians. They are experts at collecting global 'road kill' and will probably remain so.

I have taken the liberty of posting, approvingly of course, your comments below in full on my website just now. I also invite attention there to two lines of thought you and Sundance at Conservative Tree House work in parallel: economic leverage and who the real threat is in Afghanistan and Northern Korea: Pakistan and China.

3 ISIS Turbans executed in Anbar

Qaim (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants executed three young men accusing them of collaboration with security forces, a security source said Friday as the province anticipates imminent military offensives to eliminate the extremist group.

The source told Alghad Press that the three young people were executed in the center of the town of al-Qaim, but did not give details of the method the execution.

Islamic State militants have systematically executed civilians fleeing areas they had taken over since 2014. Many other civilians were also executed for contacting security forces. Recent reports from Anbar have also said that the militants had forcibly recruited young people to fight for the group.

ISIS preachers, families flees Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Three Islamic State prominent preachers escaped from the group’s haven in southwestern Kirkuk to unknown destination along with their families, a local source said.

“Three IS preachers in Hawija, Kirkuk, escaped along with their families to unknown place last on Thursday,” the source told AlSumaria News.

“The group stormed houses of the three preachers and inspected houses of their relatives in efforts to find them,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, added.

Earlier on the day, the group reportedly executed a senior leader, known as Abu Qatada al-Muhajir, for attempting to flee the town.

Hawija and other neighboring regions, west of Kirkuk, have been held by IS since mid-2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria. The group executed dozens of civilians and security members there, forcing thousands to flee homes.

Further reinforcements from the Federal Police were sent earlier this month from Baghdad to the town, as the military command declared, late August, the end of operations in Tal Afar, the militants’ last haven west of Nineveh, and the approach of the launch of offensives for Hawija.

Spokesperson of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command Yehia Rasool said, last week, there were 2000 IS militants inside Hawija.

ISIS executioner dies in Kirkuk

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State’s second executioner was killed this month in southwest of Kirkuk, a senior paramilitary official said on Friday.

“An IS executioner was killed near his house by unknown gunmen at the outskirts of Hawija, Kirkuk, marking the second accident of its kind in one month,” Jabbar al-Maamouri, of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) told AlSumaria News on Friday.

“The significant rise in murder of IS militants and leaders indicate people’s rejection against the group’s crimes,” Maamouri added.

The group’s executioner is one tasked with beheading using sword.

Afghanistan
2 ANA bases under attack in Faryab
A number of soldiers stationed in Ghormach district in the northern Faryab province have claimed that they are under siege by militants over the past two months and that they are faced with ‘serious challenges including lack of food’.

The military bases are located in Abgarmak and Chinaee regions in the district, soldiers told TOLOnews on Friday.

The Ministry of Defense said the route to the Ghormach district is closed and that they support the battalions from air.

According to the Defense Ministry, efforts are underway to break the siege and open the road to the district and to the bases.

“We provide their food, clothes, ammunition and other needs from air. But the basis of addressing the problem is to open the route and we are working on it,” Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

“Weak management of military commanders and issues around helping the personnel on time are questionable and worrying,” said Mirdad Nijrabi, head of the internal security committee of the Wolesi Jirga, the Lower House of Parliament.

Meanwhile, dozens of Faryab residents at a gathering on Friday slammed the local officials and the leaders of the National Unity Government over ‘negligence in maintaining security of the province’.

“All Afghans are tired of your boring games and you (government leaders) know that we have realized your tricks. The people know that you are sacrificing a nation for your own interests,” head of Faryab civil society organization, Sayed Zainuddin Abidi, said.

Ghormach was fallen to the Taliban at least one month ago. Security forces however managed to retake the center of the district. Reports indicate that important parts of the district including the routes ending to this part of Faryab are under Taliban’s control.

More from al-Manar

A suicide attacker driving an explosives-filled vehicle slammed into a convoy of foreign troops in southern Afghanistan on Friday, officials said, with reports of several soldiers wounded.

The Taliban claimed the attack which Kandahar provincial governor spokesman Fazal Bari Baryalai told AFP “totally destroyed” one of the vehicles carrying Romanian soldiers in Daman district.

Afghan and NATO officials could not confirm reports of casualties but in a WhatsApp message to journalists Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said “seven invading forces” were killed.

The militants routinely exaggerate battlefield claims.

Provincial police chief General Abdul Raziq told AFP the scene had been cordoned off by foreign forces.

The Taliban’s latest assault follows the militant group’s pledge to turn Afghanistan into a “graveyard” for foreign forces after US President Donald Trump’s announcement to keep American boots on the ground indefinitely.

Earlier this month two Taliban suicide bombers launched separate attacks around Bagram Airfield, America’s largest base in the country, that wounded several US soldiers and civilians.

One of those attacks was in direct response to a US leaflet drop in the northern province of Parwan, where Bagram is located, that offended many Muslims in the deeply religious country.

The leaflet depicted a lion chasing a white dog — the same color as the Taliban’s flag — with the Islamic statement of faith — “There is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is the messenger of Allah” — superimposed on its body.

Dogs are seen as unclean creatures by some Muslims and the association of Islam with a canine angered many people and sparked protests.

Arabia
Muslim World League to hold conference for cultural communication in US
Taqqiya.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Islamic World League will hold a conference on "Civilizational Communication between the United States of America and the Islamic World" on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 in New York City, USA.

Representatives of Islamic institutions from all over the world and their American counterparts along scientific, intellectual from all over the world are set to take part.

The conference, which will last for two days, will focus on a number of themes naming: "The Cultural Contribution between the United States of America and the Islamic World: The Reality and the Aspirations", "Islam’s Contribution to the Promotion of World Peace", "Moslems in the United States of America: Integration and Citizenship", "The intellectual trends in employing religious freedoms", "Communication between the United States of America and the Islamic world", "Common civilizational and humanistic traits" and " Mutual exchange between the United States and the Islamic world" including many other topics.

A distinguished group of academics and researchers from all around the world will participate in the conference. There will also be mutual dialogue sessions between a number of Moslem and American students.

The Secretary General of the Moslem World League Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim al-Issa explained that the league aims at highlighting the Islamic civilization and its pioneering historical experience in opening up to other civilizations, which emphasizes the concepts of cultural exchange, and consolidate the idea of human brotherhood based on righteousness, justice, charity and companionship, as well as reviewing evidence from Islamic history about coexistence with the people of the world.

Especially, since the United States of America has a distinguished record of trustful, honest and lucrative relationships with the Moslem World. He added that religious and intellectual extremism is an abnormal and isolated case that the Islamic world fought so it does not spread and cause harm to others.

Efforts to combat terrorism
The conference will emphasize as well that extremism is present in a small percentage within the Islamic world. According to the latest estimates, one in two hundred thousand people are identified as bad boys. This low percentage is due to both intellectual and military campaigns and efforts.
It is claimed there are a billion Muslims worldwide. That would mean there are 5,000 Muslim extremists. But according to the EU counter-terror chief, there are 50,000 radical Islamists in the EU today, so perhaps the latest estimates are a tad optimistic.
The Secretary General of the Moslem World League said that in order for extremism to regain its strength and attract new elements, it will bet on provocations of counter-extremism and "Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
", indicating that extremism is a general and comprehensive concept that is not limited to Islam.

He emphasized that the contemporary and ancient history is a living proof of the tolerance of Islam.

The Secretary General underlined that the Kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
was strongly present in the global peace initiatives, supported them at all levels and initiated a serious and effective effort to combat extremism and terrorism intellectually and militarily which made Saudi Arabia a global platform in this sense.

American President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
and a number of American politicians, intellectuals and media outlets attended the opening of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology in Riyadh.

The Islamic Summit was an exceptional historic summit which brought together the two countries under the slogan "Together, we prevail" which took place last May.

The secretary General praised the speech of the American President, who focused with detailed explanation on the distinction between moderate Moslems and bad boy terrorists.

Harvard Disinvites Chelsea Manning, and the Feeling Is Mutual
[NYTIMES] Chelsea Manning
...formerly Bradley Manning before he decided to become a girl. He, or she or whatever it was, was a misfit Army intel analyst who decided to leak all the secrets he could lay hands on. Currently doing 35 years in Leavenworth and writing editorials for the New York Times....
has declined an offer to speak at Harvard after a dean at the university revoked his invitation for her to be a visiting fellow there.

Douglas W. Elmendorf, the dean of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, told Ms. Manning in a phone call at about 12:30 a.m. on Friday that the school was no longer offering her the fellowship, according to a source familiar with the conversation. The decision was made public shortly afterward.

Harvard had faced harsh criticism for including Ms. Manning, a former Army private convicted of leaking classified information, in the visiting fellows program at the school’s Institute of Politics. Ms. Manning was named to the group on Wednesday, joining Sean Spicer, the former White House press secretary, and Corey Lewandowski, a former campaign manager for President Trump, among others. Fellows travel to Harvard to meet with students and discuss politics and other topics.

Mr. Elmendorf told Ms. Manning, who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for providing classified information to WikiLeaks, that she was still invited to speak at Harvard. But he said that the school could no longer give her the title of visiting fellow. The school was concerned that the title implied an endorsement and did not want to come across as endorsing Ms. Manning and her views, he said.

Lebanon arrests 19 people suspected of belonging to ISIS
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Leb’s army said on Friday it had tossed in the slammer
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
Islamist snuffies who were planning attacks in the country after foreign embassies warned their citizens to avoid public places.

Army intelligence "carried out several raids arresting 19 people linked to a cell" belonging to ISIS, the army said in a statement. Security forces were taking extra precautions, it added.

The cell which had "planned and prepared to carry out terrorist action" was led by Egyptian Fadi Ibrahim Ahmed, who was based in the Ein el-Hellhole Paleostinian refugee camp in southern Leb, the army said.

Leb’s Interior Ministry said earlier it was looking into warnings issued by foreign embassies over potential attacks in the country, but that there was no need to panic.

"These warnings are based on information from a foreign intelligence agency," the ministry said.

"Lebanese security services are following up to check its authenticity and accuracy ... There is no cause for fear or exaggeration."

The French Embassy in Beirut urged French citizens in Leb on Friday to be vigilant over the next 48 hours, citing an "elevated risk of attack targeting public places".

The US Embassy said earlier in the week it had barred staff from visiting the Casino du Liban in Jounieh, north of Beirut.

Afghan Taliban will support Pakistan against foreign aggression: Sami
[DAWN] The Afghan Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
have announced that they would support Pakistain against any threat by the Trump administration, pledging to stand by the government in case of any aggressive design pursued by the United States against the country.

Surprisingly, the announcement was not made public by the Emarat Islami Afghanistan, the official name of the Afghan Taliban, and was released by Maulana Samiul Haq
...the Godfather of the Taliban, leader of his own faction of the JUI. Known as Mullah Sandwich for his habit of having two young boys at a time...
, chief of his own faction of the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...a Pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution...
, from Akora Khattak where he runs his madressah.

According to the statement, the Ittehad Ulema-e-Afghanistan ‐ a little known entity ‐ had after a meeting announced their support for Pakistain against an American aggression.

The meeting between the Afghan Taliban and Emarat Islami Afghanistan held under the banner of `Ittehad Ulema-e-Afghanistan’ was led by Mufti Mehmood Zakri. Representatives of various groups and religious organizations reportedly attended the meeting. It was not clear how those religious leaders are different from the Afghan Taliban.

Later, they sent a written statement to Maulana Haq, extending full support to Pakistain in case of an attack by the US or India. They said they would fight for Pakistain like they had rendered sacrifices for their own country [Afghanistan].

They urged Pak political and religious parties to shun their differences and forge unity among their ranks.

They also vowed that the Afghan Taliban would continue their jihad in Afghanistan and would struggle for the implementation of Islamic system in their country.

Arabia
Rights groups slam Saudi arrests of religious figures
[Al Jazeera] Rights groups have condemned the recent arrests by Saudi authorities of dozens of prominent religious figures, intellectuals and activists this week as "a coordinated crackdown on dissent".

The arrests were made ahead of a call by exiled opposition figures for demonstrations following Friday afternoon prayers, which did not appear to attract much support amid a heavy security deployment.

On Sunday, online activists said up to 20 influential Saudi religious scholars had been placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
, including some of the kingdom's most influential preachers.

Two days later, there were reports of more detentions of preachers and scholars.

Human rights NGO Amnesia Amnesty International on Friday voiced concern over the arrests.

"In recent years, we cannot recall a week in which so many prominent Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
n figures have been targeted in such a short space of time," Amnesty's Samah Hadid said.

The organization said the rights situation in the Gulf state had "deteriorated markedly" since Prince Mohammed bin Salman took over as crown prince and heir to the throne on June 21.

US-based group Human Rights Watch (HRW) also suggested the arrests could be connected to the prince's efforts to consolidate power.

"These apparently politically motivated arrests are another sign that Mohammed bin Salman has no real interest in improving his country's record on free speech and the rule of law," said Sarah Leah Whitson, HRW's Middle East director.

Whitson added: "Outlandish sentences against peaceful activists and dissidents demonstrate Saudi Arabia's complete intolerance toward citizens who speak out for human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
and reform."

Activists this week circulated on social media lists of people detained, including prominent Islamic preachers Salman al-Awdah and Awad al-Qarni, as well as some people with no clear links to Islamist activity or obvious history of opposition.

Awdah and Qarni, who have millions of followers on social media, were among Saudi scholars who opposed the presence of US troops in the kingdom during the 1991 Gulf War over Kuwait.

They have both been accused of links to the Moslem Brüderbund, which Saudi Arabia has blacklisted as a "terror group".

The detentions follow widespread speculation, denied by officials, that King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
bin Abdulaziz Al Saud intends to abdicate to his son, Crown Prince Mohammed, who dominates economic, diplomatic and domestic policy.

The Saudi authorities have not commented on the latest arrests of activists.

But at the start of the week, the attorney general warned that any attack on "national unity" or the "image of the state" amounted to a "terrorist crime".

Jewish conservative’s Berkeley talk held under tight police security
[IsraelTimes] Streets closed around campus, dozens protest address by ex-Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro; security costs for event estimated at $600,000.
It's expensive to allow encourage Black Bloc Brownshirts to run amok.
Police in riot gear ringed the campus of the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Berkeley and surrounding streets Thursday, making sure a smattering of protesters were kept away from dozens of people who lined up to hear a conservative speaker at the famously liberal university.

A handful of people chanted "shame, shame, shame" at those headed into the speech by former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro. Others held signs protesting the university’s decision to host him.

Only two arrests were reported before the speech began. People were taken into custody for battery on a police officer and carrying a banned weapon.

Hundreds of others gathered just to watch the scene unfold on the campus that was on virtual lockdown much of the day.

Streets were closed and concrete barriers were erected in what many saw as the latest polarizing event to raise concerns about violence in the city.
And lets not forget all the therapists on offer in the days ahead of the event -- also available to Conservative students, the administration hastened to add -- to help students cope with the trauma of the idea that a Conservative might be allowed to speak aloud in public.
Authorities sealed off Sproul Plaza ‐ the central hub of the campus ‐ and created a perimeter around several buildings, including the site where Shapiro was set to speak to about 1,000 people who received free tickets.

Shapiro, who is Jewish, was invited to speak by campus Republicans, who say the liberal university stifles the voice of conservative speakers.

Spencer Brown, a front man for Young America’s Foundation, the group organizing Shapiro’s lecture series, "Campus Thuggery," said there should be few problems if police backed up their show of force.

Nick Handley, 18, a high school senior from Modesto, about 135 kilometers (85 miles) east of Berkeley, was among those lined up to see Shapiro. He said he tried to get other people to come with him, but they were afraid about potential violence.

"It really is sad," he said, referring to the heavy police presence. "This is taxpayer money. It’s terrible they have to have this because a speaker wants to share his views."

UC Berkeley front man Dan Mogulof estimated security costs could hit $600,000 for the event. He said the school was committed to ensuring the safety of students and people attending the event, and to making it successful.
Berkeley: making the unthinkable thinkable again.
The city and campus have become a flashpoint this year for the country’s political divisions, drawing murderous Moslem groups from the left and right.

"We can’t turn a blind eye to reality and to what we’ve learned from recent events on this campus and in this city and around the country," Mogulof said.

Police and UC Berkeley officials were criticized last February for giving demonstrators wide latitude and standing aside as anarchists hurled Molotov cocktails at officers and caused $100,000 worth of damage during a planned speech by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos. The event was canceled.
And that wasn't the only one. Betcha the university and town have spent a cool $1 million cleaning up after the Antifa attacks they encouraged.
A list of banned items Thursday included shields, masks, bandanas, poles and torches, and for the first time in two decades, the city council authorized city officers to use pepper spray to control violence.

Four political demonstrations have turned violent in Berkeley since February, prompting officers to come up with new strategies to control rowdy and sometimes dangerous crowds.
Not standing aside is a new strategy?
Thursday’s event was being seen as a test run for later in the month, when Yiannopoulos plans to return to campus for what he is calling a "Free Speech Week" on campus featuring conservative commentator Ann Coulter and Steve Bannon, ex-chief strategist for President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
who has returned to Breitbart News.

Campus officials say that event is not yet confirmed.

GNA’s police warns against any unauthorized demonstrations
[Libya Herald] The Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Security Directorate (TSD) has warned against the holding of any unauthorized demonstrations in Tripoli. The TSD is part of the Ministry of Interior aligned with Faiez Serraj and his designated and internationally-recognized Government of National Accord / Presidency Council (GNA/PC).

The TSD warning was a shot across the bows of Abdul Basit Igtet who has called for a demonstration in Tripoli’s Martyr Square on 25 September.

The TSD did not mention Igtet by name in its statement released yesterday. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the statement is seen as a clear message by the Serraj administration and his aligned militias to Igtet.

The TSD said in its statement that within its role of ensuring the security of citizens, general public order, the protection of state and private property and assets, and its role of ensuring the right of citizens to peacefully demonstrate in order to express their opinions and express their demands within law 65 of 2012 which organizes the right to peaceful demonstration ‐ it also seeks to ensure that the right of Libyan citizens to peaceful demonstration is not exploited or directed negatively by others in order to reach specific ’’political positions’’.

The TSD said that it was ’’with the calls for reform and improvement ...which are a natural right’’.

Enrollment drops at schools known for ‘social justice warfare’
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Universities known for being hotbeds of campus protest and liberal activism are struggling with declining enrollments and budget shortfalls, and higher education analysts say that’s no coincidence.

Take Oberlin College. According to a document leaked to The Oberlin Review, the school’s student newspaper, the small liberal arts college famous for social justice hoaxes has had trouble attracting and retaining students, missing this year’s enrollment mark by 80 and racking up a $5 million budget deficit in the process.

William A. Jacobson, a professor at Cornell Law School who runs the Legal Insurrection blog, said the "most obvious culprit" in Oberlin’s dwindling admissions is "relentless social justice warfare."

Locust alert for Jalu, Awjila and Jakharra
This is called bad luck. Or possibly Allah just doesn't like them, for some reason.
[Libya Herald] Farmers and residents in Cyrenaica’s Wahat area which comprised the desert oases towns of Jalu, Awjila and Jakharra, have been warned of the arrival of massive swarms of locusts.

The agricultural authorities have expressed concern for the date crop and even the palm trees which they fear could be devastated as a result and have called on locals to try and take action. This usually involves pesticides.

In their search for food, swarms of locusts can travel up to 150 kilometres a day.

Local police in Al-Wahat report that even electricity columns are being covered by locusts.

Kim Jong-un vows to complete N Korea nuclear programme
[Al Jazeera] North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
has vowed to complete his nuclear weapons programme in the face of strengthening sanctions after he inspected a powerful new intermediate-range missile that was fired over Japan, according to state news agency KCNA.

The North's state media carried Kim's comments on Saturday, a day after US and South Korean militaries detected the missile launch from the North Korean capital of Pyongyang.

KCNA said North Korea's goal is reaching an "equilibrium" of military force with the United States and to "make the US rulers dare not talk about military option for the DPRK".

3 militants die in explosion in Salahuddin
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Three Islamic State militants were killed and injured as an explosion occurred in east of Salahuddin, a local source said.

“A vehicle carrying IS militants in Mutaibija, Salahuddin, exploded, leaving two militants killed and a third wounded, in accordance with preliminary information,” the source told AlSumaria News on Friday.

“It’s unknown if the blast was due to aerial bombardment or explosives on board of the vehicle,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.

Occasional attacks have been witnessed in Mutaibija by Islamic State against government and paramilitary troops deployments since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and PMUs, launched a major offensive to retake areas occupied by IS since 2014.

Earlier this week, Jaafar al-Battat, the service’s chief of staff of the Federal Police, said in remarks that troops completed their mobilizations and are awaiting orders from the supreme commander of the armed forces to move towards Shirqat, the group’s haven located north of the province.

Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, are still held by the militants which poses threats to the liberated regions. Iraqi troops are urged to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

It’s expected that the Iraqi government will head towards liberating other IS strongholds across Iraq, including in Salahuddin.

UN 'botched' sexual abuse cases in CAR
[Al Jazeera] The UN has been hit by a new set of accusations that it mishandled allegations of sexual misconduct against peacekeepers in the Central African Republic (CAR).

On Thursday, Code Blue, a campaign by a US-based NGO seeking greater accountability for UN troops, said it had received 14 internal UN reports that detailed fact-finding inquiries into complaints made against troops within the UN peacekeeper mission in CAR (MINUSCA).

The reports showed how cases were repeatedly mishandled and botched by UN authorities.

Sharanya Kanikkannan, a lawyer with Code Blue, said the UN was filtering out complaints in the early stages and throwing out cases before they could be properly investigated.

"The filtering ensures that there is no access to justice for the vast majority of victims since they cannot gain access to law enforcement authorities without first convincing UN staff to believe them," Kanikkannan said.

If allegations are found to be credible, it is the responsibility of the alleged perpetrators' home countries to prosecute them, but if the UN decides that the case is not credible, the case is dropped.

Six Frontier Constabulary personnel injured in twin blasts at Torkham
[DAWN] At least six Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel and a child were maimed in two consecutive kabooms at the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham, security officials said on Friday.

CCTV footage and security sources confirmed the kabooms were caused by grenades.

The FC personnel, who were deployed at the gate, and a passerby child received injuries as a result of the two blasts.

Following the blasts, the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the adjoining areas. The border crossing was also closed for all types of traffic.

The nature of the blast is yet to be ascertained, the FC officials said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco...
the injured have been rushed to the Combined Military Hospital, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. #1  Pity the Frontier Constabulary. Underpaid and under equipped (the money goes into Pak ICs.) Under trained as well. FC recruits also don't come from the best sources - those are reserved for the military.

One should consider them the misbegotten stepson of the Pakistani government. Fortunately and unlike Pakistani stepsons, they only get metaphorically buggered.

#2  From the quirky word jerk department... every single time my eyes see "Torkham" -- for decades now -- it gets misdirected through "obscure suburbs of London" on the way to where it belongs.

Not much of a firm --

And we're weak at the goal, as you see."

CM Sindh vows to bring 'influential' killers of 19-year-old woman to justice
[DAWN] Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday visited the Jhangara Bjara town of Jamshoro district to condole the murder of a 19-year-old student and promise he would bring the killers to justice.

The chief minister, along with Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.D. Khawaja and other officials, also offered prayers for the victim, who was killed after she refused a marriage proposal from a local influential.

Shah, after talking to the father of the victim, Ghulam Qadir Khaskheli, also ordered Jamshoro SSP Irfan Bahadur to arrest the local station house officer (SHO) for his alleged reluctance to arrest the influential murderers.

He directed IGP Khawaja and SSP Bhahdar to arrest the culprits behind the gruesome murder.

The parents have accused Mohammad Khan Noohani and two of his accomplices for murdering the student after she refused to marry him.

SSP Bahadur confirmed later that SHO Mohammad Ali Khashekhli has been tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
and Maula Bux Noohani was also a prime suspect in the case.

The suspected killers are said to be on the lam in the home constituency of the chief minister.

Shah assured the woman's family that justice would be done and those involved in the murder would be brought to book. He announced that the Sindh government would also extend financial help to the family.

Earlier in the day, a large number of area residents as well as members of civil society had taken to the streets to protest the killing and the alleged reluctance of police to arrest the culprits.

US drone kills three 'terrorists' in Kurram Agency
[DAWN] A US drone killed three suspected turbans in an attack on a compound in Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
on Friday, officials said, in the first strike since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
vowed to crack down on Pakistain.

Officials said the strike took place in remote Ghuz Ghari village in Kurram agency, close to the Afghan border where at least five fighters from the Afghan Taliban
...Arabic for students...
had gathered.

"The US drone fired two missiles, at least three fighters from the Afghan Taliban have been killed and two maimed," a senior government official in Kurram Agency told AFP.

The identities of those killed and maimed remained unclear but an intelligence official in Kurram said one of the dead belonged to the Haqqani network.

Two other mid-level government officials confirmed the strike and casualties and told AFP that the compound was completely destroyed in the attack.

Christian man in Lahore sentenced to death over blasphemous WhatsApp text
[DAWN] A Christian man in Lahore has been sentenced to death for blasphemy after he sent a Moslem friend a poem on WhatsApp that insulted Islam, a lawyer said Friday.

The accused was charged in July last year after his friend, Yasir Bashir, complained to police that he received a poem on the messaging app that was derogatory toward the Prophet Mohammed (PTUI!) and other holy figures.

The accused "was handed a death sentence by the court on Thursday on blasphemy charges," defence lawyer Anjum Wakeel told AFP, alleging that his client was been framed by Bashir.

"My client will appeal the sentence in the high court as he has been framed by his friend who was annoyed over his [the accused's] affair with a Moslem girl," Wakeel said.

He said the trial was held inside a prison due to security reasons after local holy mans had threatened the accused and his family.

CNN host Bourdain jokes about poisoning Trump
[MSN] CNN host Anthony Bourdain jokedin an interview with TMZ that he would poison President Trump if given the opportunity to cook for him and North Korean dictator Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
"If Trump and Kim Jong-un were going to have a bit of a summit to try and mend relations and they wanted you to cater, what would you serve?" asked a TMZ news hound.

"Hemlock," Bourdain deadpanned.

Hemlock is defined as "a drug or lethal drink prepared from the poison hemlock" that has been used as an execution method.

The 61-year-old host of CNN's weekly food and travel series, "Parts Unknown," later told Fox News that he meant to say "kale."

Pepper spray comes out in St. Louis
[STLTODAY] Former St. Louis police Officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty Friday of murdering a man while on duty.

St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson's highly anticipated verdict found the white former St. Louis police officer not guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the December 2011 shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith, a black drug suspect, after a high-speed pursuit and crash.

Activists, with support from some of the city's black clergy, had pledged disruptive protests ahead of Wilson's verdict.

Wilson addressed such statements in his order: "A judge shall not be swayed by partisan interests, public clamor or fear of criticism."

Protesters began gathering immediately. They tried to get on Interstate 64, but were blocked by police. They marched to police headquarters and down Tucker Boulevard.

Police pepper-sprayed a few protesters in the early afternoon as they tried to block police from traveling on Tucker Boulevard between Clark Avenue and Spruce Street. More than 100 police, many with batons and riot shields, were there.

As the protests grew Friday morning, Wells Fargo, Stifel and Nestle Purina PetCare sent their thousands of employees home for the day.

Whiny Sen. Rand Paul tries ending the war in Afghanistan after only 16 years
Duffelblog
Legislation introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) failed to pass on Wednesday that would have effectively ended the war in Afghanistan and the bombing of at least six other countries, after Paul’s Senate colleagues voted it down because he’s a whiny little girl.

Paul, who hates freedom and America generally, was seeking to put an end to the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force, a law passed after the Sept. 11th attacks that allowed bombing of the terrorists responsible for it, the terrorists who hate the original terrorists, and Pakistani wedding parties.

“All I’m saying is if you’re going to have a war, at least have a vote on it,” Paul told reporters, desperately trying to convince them to ‘hold lawmakers accountable.’ “But of course, it’s too much to expect Congress to do anything that doesn’t involve dinner with lobbyists.”

In addition to his shameful forcing of the Senate to vote on whether to continue giving the president a blank check to drop Hellfire missiles on anyone he decides is a terrorist, Paul has in the past tried to force the National Security Agency to obtain a warrant before spying on American citizens.

“His constituents should be ashamed,” Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said.

Fortunately, 61 patriotic, freedom-loving members of the U.S. Senate voted against Paul’s liberal nonsense, including 13 Democrats.

Iraq
30 ISIS Bad Guys detained near Tal Afar
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Several Islamic State members were arrested as security troops were combing the group’s recently lost bastion in Nineveh province.

In a statement on Friday, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said troops found a child and arrested 14 females members in Aiyadhiya region, located near Tal Afar.

Thirteen of the arrested members were Turkish national and a Russian one with sixteen children with them. They were arrested in Qasabet al-Ra’ie village at the outskirts of Aiyadhiya,

Speaking to Sputnik, a source said the children and women were families of the foreign IS members

A security source and eyewitness were quoted on Wednesday as saying that IS female members, most of whom were foreigners, turned in themselves to Iraqi troops. Around 1,000 foreign women from Turkey, Tajikistan, Russia, Azerbaijan and China, left Aiyadhiya along with their children.

The women were transferred to Hammam al-Alil camp, allocated for the displaced, in south of Mosul. They are under high security and are being interrogated.

Another source from the camp said IS women arrived today to the camp on board for more than fifteen buses.

On Tuesday, Brig. Gen. Yehia Rasool, spokesperson of the Joint Operations Command, said in a statement that army troops, backed by fighter jets, killed 65 militants, including 15 suicide bombers, during an operation to purge the village, located west of Aiyadhiya.

Iraqi troops were able to liberate Tal Afar on August 31. PM Haidar al-Abadi announced in a televised speech on August 20 the beginning of operations to recapture the town, which has been held by the militants since 2014, when the extremist group first emerged to proclaim its self-styled ‘caliphate’. This came after 40 days of declaring victory in Mosul, the group’s former capital, where operations lasted between October to July.

Joint troops then recaptured Aiyadhiya, located 11 KM away from Tal Afar, after invading it on August 29.

2 Minnesota moms charged in Michigan genital mutilation case
[Ynet] Two Minnesota mothers have been charged in an investigation of genital mutilation in a Moslem sect, months after bringing their daughters to a bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
-area clinic.

A new indictment was unsealed Thursday in Detroit federal court, raising the number of defendants to eight. The eight include Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, who is accused of performing the procedure.

The News Agency that Dare Not be Named isn't naming the Minnesota moms to protect their daughters' identities. The moms are charged with conspiracy and genital mutilation.

Nagarwala denies any crime and says she performed a religious custom on girls from her Moslem sect, the Dawoodi Bohra. She's been in jail without bail since her arrest in April.
Yes, it is the custom of her people. But in America this custom is s crime.
The indictment says Nagarwala performed genital mutilation on six girls, but prosecutors say the number could be much higher.

#4  A simple solution is to perform male genital mutilation on all the males involved, including the girls fathers and the male doctors performing the mutilation. Do it to them first! (Male genital mutilation means the complete removal of testicles and penis leaving just a small hole to urinate with.) This will help the male hyper-sexuality problem.

Two women injured by hammer-wielding attacker shouting "Allahu akhbar" in eastern France
[Reuters] Two women were injured on Friday by an attacker wielding a hammer and shouting Allahu Akbar in the eastern French town of Chalon-sur-Saone in Burgundy, local officials said.

The local prosecutor’s office said witnesses of the attack in a public park of the town center heard the attacker shout Allahu Akbar while hitting the women, who were taken to hospital but whose life is not in danger.

Prosecutors said they were treating the incident as a possible terror attack, but also did not rule out the possibility the attacker was deranged.

The attacker was still on the run on Friday afternoon, police said.

That's not to say that the Method is entirely at fault, a number of folks with problems are drawn to the arts for some reason. There is a desperation to be loved going on, and in this case the love of fellow actors seems to be more important than logic.

Britain
Day 2: PM warns a second attack ‘may be imminent’ and raises terror threat to highest level after ISIS claimed cell planted crude Tube bomb which could have killed dozens
[DailyMail]
  • Soldiers will replace police at key locations out of public view so more armed officers can go onto streets

  • Scotland Yard has identified the suspect behind the rush hour bomb on District Line train at Parsons Green

  • Failure of the device to detonate properly avoided a massive blast that would have claimed dozens of lives

  • Manhunt underway for bomber amid fears he may have left other devices and could be armed with knives

  • Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the west London attack saying its 'soldiers' had 'planted IEDs'

  • About the bomb:

    o Crude bucket bomb had timer attached meaning terrorist probably exited at an earlier station but bomb failed to detonate;

    o The IED used Christmas lights as a fuse, as recommended by ISIS magazines and online bomb manuals;

    o The majority of victims suffered 'flash burns' and others suffered crush injuries in 'human stampede' as people fled the train and station;

o 29 victims treated at hospitals, some quickly released
The Telegraph continues liveblogging here.
Update from the Telegraph liveblog at 1:00 p.m. EDT:
Detectives investigating the terrorist attack at Parsons Green have made a "significant" arrest in connection with the attempted bombing.

The 18-year-old man was arrested by Kent Police in the port area of Dover on Saturday morning under section 41 of the Terrorism Act.

He remains in custody at a local police station from where he will be transferred to a south London police station.
And from the Daily Mail article, which was updated a few minutes ago:
Surrey home raided by police hunting Parsons Green bomber 'is owned by MBE-awarded foster couple who have taken in hundreds of children including refugees from Middle East warzones'.

The house in Sunbury-on-Thames is where Penelope Jones, 71, and her husband Ronald, 88, raised 268 foster children.

The couple owned the property as of February this year although it is not known if they or any of their children still live there.

At least eight of the Jones' foster children have been refugees with some coming from Iraq, Eritrea, Syria, Albania and Afghanistan.

Earlier today police apprehended a suspect in the 'port area' of Dover as he tried to buy a ferry ticket to France in a a believed attempt to flee the country.

Iraq
Iraqi Kurd parliament reconvenes to vote on independence referendum
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The parliament of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region convened for the first time in two years on Friday to vote on a plan to hold a referendum on independence on Sept. 25.

The central government in Baghdad opposes the plan, which was announced earlier this year by Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani
... hereditary head of the Kurdish Democratic Party, maybe a little too close to the Medes and the Persians for most people's tastes...
’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Iraq’s neighbors, Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, have also expressed their opposition to the plan as they fear an independent Kurdish state could fuel separatism among their own Kurdish populations.

The parliament met in the KRG capital, Erbil, in northern Iraq.

Western powers worried
Barzani earlier on Friday said the vote won’t be delayed, despite pressing requests from the United States and other western powers worried that the tension between Baghdad and Erbil would distract from the war on ISIS murderous Moslems who continue to occupy parts of Iraq and Syria.

"We still haven’t heard a proposal that can be an alternative to the Kurdistan referendum," Barzani said in a speech at a rally in the Kurdish region, referring to talks held with US and western envoys this week in Erbil. "The vote won’t be delayed," he added.

Gorran, the main opposition movement to Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), boycotted the parliament session in Erbil. It was a dispute between Gorran and the KDP that caused the assembly to suspend its sessions in 2015.

US urges Iraqi Kurdistan to call off independence vote
The United States Friday urged Iraqi Kurdistan to call off plans for an independence referendum later this month, warning the vote was distracting from efforts to stabilize the region and combat ISIS group.

"Holding the referendum in disputed areas is particularly provocative and destabilizing," the White House said a statement. "We therefore call on the Kurdistan Regional Government to call off the referendum and enter into serious and sustained dialogue with Baghdad."

Planned for September 25, the vote faces strong opposition from the federal government in Baghdad as well as neighboring Iran and Turkey, which fear it will stoke separatist aspirations among their own Kurdish minorities.

Syrian weapons stores detonates in Homs
Homs (Syria News) A source informed that strong blasts hit the Syrian regime-held T4 airbase, located in the eastern countryside of Homs, Qasioun News reported on Friday.

Dear Mr. President, it would be my honor to mow the White House lawn for some weekend for you. Even though I’m only 10, I’d like to show the nation what young people like me are ready for. I admire your business background and have started my own business.
Sanders also announced that Frank was going to be invited to the White House and would get the chance to mow the lawn. Friday, Frank got his wish.

Body of FT journalist presumed killed by crocodile found in Sri Lanka
[THEGUARDIAN] The body of a British journalist believed to have been killed by a crocodile has been found in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan police said the body of 24-year-old Paul McClean, who worked for the Financial Times, had been recovered a day after he was seen being dragged into a lagoon by a crocodile.

James Lamont, the FT’s managing editor, said: "Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones. We are in touch with them, doing all we can to help during this difficult time."

Lamont described McClean as "a talented, energetic and dedicated young journalist" who had "a great career ahead of him at the FT".

Divers found McClean’s body in the mud of a lagoon in the coastal village of Panama, 225 miles (360km) east of the capital, Colombo. "There were six or seven wounds on his right leg," a police official told the Agence La Belle France-Presse news agency. "The body was stuck in mud at about the same place where he was seen last by some others who were with him."

2 Hamas fighters die in separate Gaza tunnel collapses
A dreadful way to die, crushed and smothered in sandy mud.
[IsraelTimes] Two Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", fighters died in separate tunnel collapses in the Gazoo Strip overnight, the Paleostinian terror organization, which controls the territory, said on Friday.

Khalil al-Dimyati, 32, and Yusef Abu Abed, 22, were killed after two "resistance tunnels" collapsed, Hamas said, referring to tunnels used for military purposes.

It did not give details of the locations or causes of the collapses, but confirmed the two men were members of Hamas’s armed wing.

A security source said one collapse was in Gazoo City, while the other was near the city of Khan Yunis.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
'Pay-to-play' at Clinton State Department exposed in new emails, watchdog says
[FOXNEWS] Newly disclosed emails expose fresh examples of "pay to play" at the Clinton State Department, a conservative watchdog group said Thursday.

The emails, from Clinton aide Huma Abedin's account, were among 1,600 documents turned over by the State Department in connection with Judicial Watch's Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

Judicial Watch said the documents reveal Clinton Foundation friends requesting and receiving favors from the State Department.

"The emails show ’what happened’ was that Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
and Huma Abedin obviously violated laws about the handling of classified information and turned the State Department into a pay for play tool for the corrupt Clinton Foundation," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said, in a swipe at Clinton's newly released campaign memoir "What Happened." "The clear and mounting evidence of pay for play and mishandling of classified information warrant a serious criminal investigation by an independent Trump Justice Department."

In May 2010, Clinton Foundation donor and developer Eddie Trump wrote to Doug Band, a Clinton Foundation official and former top aide to President Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
, forwarding a request for help getting the Russian American Foundation involved in a State Department program. Band forwarded the request to Abedin, asking if they can "get this done/mtg set." Judicial Watch previously reported that the State Department paid more than $260,000 to the Russian American Foundation for "public diplomacy."

In July 2009, Zachary Schwartz, an associate for donor Steve Bing, contacted Band requesting help on visas for Cuba for a film production crew from Bing's Shangri La Entertainment. Band forwarded the request to Abedin asking her to call Schwartz "asap." Abedin said she would. Bing reportedly donated between $10 million and $25 million to the Clinton Foundation.

Arabia
Abdel Malek threatens us with ‘fresh’ missiles
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Every day passes on the ’Decisive Storm’ operation launching proves that it was the most important foreign military political decision taken by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and its most influential Gulf partner, the UAE.

Some had doubts, others attacked the Arab-Islamic alliance for confronting the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias and their tottering alley Saleh. They strangely ignore that the Houthi is an ’organic’ part of the Iranian Khomeini Revolutionary Guards.

Al-Houthi overlooking the Jazan, Najran and South Dhahran, and its missiles, which are imported from Iran’s factories, hit Khamis Mushayt, Abha, Sabiya, Taif an area close to Mecca!

Today, while the Iran’s claw is in Yemen, Abdel Malek al-Houthi, forcibly subdue the sick man President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, and arrogantly threatens the UAE and Saudi Arabia in an unprecedented escalating manner.

We do not know why the Houthi is that much confident ‐ same as the Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
i rulers, but every disease has its medicine that cures it ‐ except foolishness which sickens he who tries to cure it.

Abdel Malek al-Houthi with a Khomeini trance, said in his speech which was broadcast in al-Maseera Channel: "UAE came in the range of our missiles", announcing that they made a "successful" missile experiment which he "claimed" would reach Abu Dhabi.

Blatant imitation
In a blatant imitation of his Lebanese role model - Hassan Nasrallah - Abdel Malek said: "The missile force was able to accomplish the post-Riyadh phase."

Do you remember Nasrallah’s speech about Haifa and post-Haifa?!

"If they want to secure their oil ships, then they should not invade Hodeidah," Abdel-Malek said with megalomania, addressing Riyadh.

It might be considered that the Houthi is making vain threats, to cover the dissent with the Congress Party and Saleh, or to bury the anger among the Yemeni people after three years of the coup. But it is necessary to seriously consider this speech, uproot the Khomeini claw from Yemen, and killing, or the anticipated al-Imam al-Zaidi comes back to Maran caves.

What the son of Saada said, would turn out to be disaster for him and for the Khomeini project in Yemen.

Yes, there are obstacles, of which the campaigns of the international organizations which was invaded by al-Houthi and the Khomeinists, but this is a matter of destiny, and the "brother" has reached the very point of deterioration.

For anyone who questions the legitimacy of the objectives of the Arab alliance, now Abdel-Malek al-Houthi gives the crystal clear reason that the mission must be accomplished no matter how much the costs are. "The time is in our favor, therefore, we are not in a hurry," said Mohammed bin Salman in his television interview, past May.

It is said that, "If ants had wings.... Then its end is close".

Omar Mukhtar operations room denies increased fighting around Derna as situation in town worsens
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army’s Omar Mukhtar operations room which is tasked with the capture of Derna from the mujahedeen forces controlling it has denied escalating military action around the besieged town. Operations room front man Salah Bujidar said that there had been small scale festivities between mujahideen forces and the LNA but nothing more. The mujahindeen fired shells on a daily basis fired shells at army positions, he said, and it responded in kind.

Despite Bujidar’s statement, residents in the town are living a life of complete misery. Ten days ago, it was announced that the commander of the operations room, Colonel Kamal al-Jabali, had tightened the siege by closing the last remaining access route in and out of the town.

There is no fuel for vehicles or generators, no cooking gas and precious few medical supplies, although medicines for those with diabetes, blood pressure and cardiac conditions are reported to have been allowed in. Vegetables and fruit from farms in the vicinity of the town controlled by the mujahideen are said to be available although in limited supply but not other foodstuffs such as rice, pasta, oil, tomato paste or other staples. Shops are empty. To buy food and other commodities, people are allowed out to shop elsewhere but have to walk the one and a half kilometres from the last mujahideen checkpoint to the LNA frontline and there pick up transport to take them to Beida or elsewhere.

Bread, the basic staple of the Libyan diet, is a rarity, with bakeries forced to close because either there is no flour, or the ovens cannot work because there is no power ‐ or both.

Appeals from Derna residents or from others across the country to the LNA to relax the siege and at least allow in fuel, medicine and flour have fallen on deaf ears.

The siege was tightened at the end of July after members of the mujahideen summarily executed an LNA pilot, Colonel Adel Jehani, whose plane was shot down. The mujahideen have since said that those responsible had been tossed in the clink
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
but there is no evidence of this.

Film Matilda will not be banned
Much of the problem stems from some eroticism on display, and how historical characters such as Czar Nicholas II are portrayed.

Head of the Russian conservative party Rodina's beef with the film appears that it was in part funded by the Russian government.

Rodina party head Alexei Zhuravlev said, "In depriving Russia of a worthy past, they steal from us and our children a worthy future, privatizing it in their "elite" interests."

Hard to argue with his position.

MOSCOW, September 13. /TASS/. Any attempts to exert pressure on cinemas over the screenings of Matilda, a movie describing the love story of last Russian emperor Nicholas II and a ballet dancer, are censorship and lawlessness, Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky said on Wednesday.

"Any intentions of 'initiators' on the ground to ban the screenings, any attempts of pressure against private or municipal cinemas are pure lawlessness and censorship, which is directly against the Russian Constitution," Medinsky told TASS.

The Culture Ministry allows the screenings at cinemas in line with legal procedures, Medinsky explained. "The law strictly describes the grounds for any refusal. There are none of them in case with Matilda. We are guided by the law, not private tastes."

"I have personally seen this film. I won’t discuss its content - this is just incorrect until spectators see it. But I confirm: there is nothing offensive in it either for the memory of Nicholas II or for the history of Russia’s monarchy," the minister said. Any discourse about the film until its release is groundless, he stressed.

The minister has called on Russian law enforcement agencies to ensure the rule of law in the situation with Matilda and curb any pressure on the state and cinema business from "activists with their socially dangerous methods of imposing their views."

Pak govt reassessing ties with US: defence minister
[DAWN] Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan said on Wednesday the onus of satisfying the United States about its concerns is not on Pakistain.

"We are here to give our point of view logically and with evidence. We will explain our position. But it’s not for us to satisfy them," Mr Dastgir told news hounds at the defence ministry.

The government is currently, in Mr Dastgir’s words, "reassessing ties with the US", and has simultaneously undertaken a regional outreach ahead of talks with the US on future bilateral engagement.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, after accompanying Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to the UN General Assembly session in New York next week, is expected to visit Washington for the awaited meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

The same Paki Army that was stopped up ( 93,000 Moslem soldiers who were defeated in under two weeks because they ran away from the Indian Army ( largely Hindus) and wet their pants while being loaded on Cattle cars and shipped out by rail to the Desert in the Rann of Kutch ( the Mother of all Coochies ) and sold by the regiment load back to Pakistain over a six year period for cash and then dumped on the streets of Karachi piecemeal where they hanged the PM of Paki six months later ( having 93,000 loser soldiers ( Moslem wankers ) dumped on the streets didn't go down well for some reason...it sort of made the mighty Pak Army look like a bunch of fags ).

American Fighting for ISIS ‘Surrenders’
[THEDAILYBEAST] The U.S. military confirmed a Daily Beast report Thursday that an American fighting in Syria for the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
has been taken into custody.

"The U.S. citizen is being legally detained by Department of Defense personnel as a known enemy combatant," Pentagon front man Eric Pahon said.

A source familiar with the situation told The Daily Beast earlier that the American was captured by Kurdish forces. Other military spokespeople indicated that the fighter "surrendered" on or around Tuesday.

In either case, the detention of an American fighting for ISIS on an active battlefield would set up a major decision for Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
about the future of wartime captures.

According to The Daily Beast’s source, the U.S. citizen was initially taken into custody by the Syrian Democratic Forces, the mostly Kurdish local proxy that the American military is using to fight ISIS on the ground in Syria. That source said the Kurds then turned the captive over to American forces. It is not clear where the American is currently being held, nor if the International Committee of the Red Thingy has had access to him.

Neither the U.S. military command overseeing the war against ISIS nor the Justice Department, which plays a substantial role in deciding what to do with U.S. citizen detainees, are disputing this reporting.

"We are aware of the report that a U.S. citizen believed to be fighting for ISIS surrendered to Syrian Democratic Forces on or about Sept. 12," said the front man, Maj. Earl Brown.

US artillery sets up fire block near Ramadi

Ramadi (IraqiNews.com) U.S. artillery forces bombarded a group of Islamic State militants who sneaked to an area south of the city of Ramadi in Anbar, a military source was quoted saying on Friday.

Baghdad Today quoted a source at the Habbaniya base, located between Ramadi and Fallujah, intensely bombarded al-Tash Islands, south of Ramadi, after a group of Islamic State members sneaked into the region.

Reconnaissance drones had detected preparations by the militants to target the military base with guided missiles, according to the source.

Islamic State has held the towns of Annah, Rawa and Qaim, on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, since 2014. Recent news reports have said military reinforcements were sent to areas near those towns preparing for an invasion against IS. and that Iraqi military aeroplanes dropped millions of messages on western Anbar telling civilians that liberation offensives were nearing, and urging people to stay away from militants’ locations.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command has, meanwhile, declared that its coming battle would be in IS-held Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk. So far, United States.-backed government forces have recaptured Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital, and the town of Tal Afar, a major haven west of Mosul.

Iraqi warbirds smoke ISIS Bad Guys near Karbala

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops have destroyed an Islamic State camp in west of Anbar, killing militants inside, according to the military media.

In a statement on Friday, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said, “based on information from the military intelligence department, the air force carried out airstrike, which destroyed camp of the terrorist abu Saleh Askari of the State of the South, in the desert in west of Rutba.”

“The air raid killed the militants who were inside the camp and burnt their vehicles,” the statement said, adding that the militants “were planning for a terrorist operation in Karbala.”

On Thursday, Emad al-Dulaimi, Rutba mayor, said in remarks that the first phase of military operation to liberate two regions of Okashat and Annahin will be launched simultaneously within the coming few hours.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

three of them were later released on bail.

Also on Thursday, officials and sources said that Sherlocks probing into the escape of the two undertrial prisoners claimed to have found "key link" that might help police trace them. They said the escapees ‐ who are alleged members of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. Talking to news hounds after attending the concluding ceremony of the three-day urs of Sufi saint Abdullah Shah Ghazi here, the chief minister said that the escape of the two prisoners could not be ignored because police and other security agencies made hectic efforts to arrest them. The escape from jail was a criminal matter and the government was taking it very seriously and that was the reason it had suspended some bigwigs, he added.

Answering a question, Mr Shah said he had no report whether the escapees had fled to Afghanistan or were hidden somewhere in the country. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
he added, "we are in close contact with other provinces and all agencies, including police, Rangers and intelligence agencies, which are working in close coordination to arrest them."

Gargash to Houthis: Your goals are despicable, your threat reveals despair
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash, said on Friday that the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
statements threatening to target the UAE and its capital proves why the Operation Decisive Storm was needed.

"The Iranian-backed militias are really dangerous and have vile objectives," he said in a series of tweets Friday morning.

Gargash added that the Decisive Storm was launched after realizing the danger of shifting strategic balance, which is confirmed by these Houthi threats. He stressed that the Arab alliance is fighting a necessary battle for the future of the region.

"We are not afraid of the Houthi threats and stupidity; it reveals the desperation of those who defend fragmented illusions, and it certainly reveals the intentions for the Arabian Gulf region security and stability," Gargash wrote.

The UAE minister also said that the challenges we are facing requires more solidarity among Arab countries. He said that the Arab coalition is an example of this solidarity.

Gargash’s tweets came hours after open threats made by Houthi militia leader, Abdel-Malek al-Houthi.

In a speech broadcast by pro-coup al-Maseera channel in Yemen, Abdel-Malek al-Houthi threatened to bomb areas in neighboring countries with missiles, targeting oil ships on the international shipping lines opposite to the Yemeni coast if the legitimate and coalition forces made move toward Hodeidah.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Assad forces advance against ISIL in central Syria
[Al Jazeera] Syrian government forces have pressed their offensive in the province of Hama and captured a new city in Deir Az Zor, aiming to clear the country of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS, also known as ISIS) group, according to opposition activists and state media.

The violence on Friday came as a deal was announced in the Kazakh capital of Astana on de-escalation in the nearby, mostly rebel-held province of Idlib.

Syrian troops have been on the offensive against ISIS in central Syria for weeks under the cover of Russian Arclight airstrikes.

In August, troops were able to besiege a wide area controlled by the group that has been shrinking ever since.

One of the main battles has been taking place near the central town of Okeirbat, which government forces captured in mid-August.

Earlier this month, ISIS fighters regained control of the town only to lose it again on Thursday after a crushing attack that involved intense air attack, according to the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Okeirbat was the largest town ISIS held in the central province of Hama. The area is important because it is close to villages loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

If it loses the central region, ISIS will be mostly left in the eastern province of Deir Az Zor as well as a third of the northern city of Raqqa, once the group's de facto capital.

The Observatory said on Friday that more than two weeks of fighting has left hundreds dead on both sides.

The government-controlled Syrian Central Military Media reported the festivities, saying ISIS positions are being targeted with artillery and rockets.

Separately, the government forces also captured a new neighbourhood, al-Bogheliyah, from ISIS in the eastern city of Deir Az Zor, according to Syrian Central Military Media.

They have been marching from western parts of the city while US-backed fighters of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been approaching the city from the north.

US military front man Ryan Dillon said during a Pentagon briefing that the SDF had begun clearing

Operations are going on northeast of Deir Az Zor, but that the US-backed fighters have no plans to go into the city, he added. He said that so far the SDF fighters have met "light resistance."

"They have objectives, and they have reached the initial objective of clearing the initial portions of the Khabur River Valley. They have begun that clearance of some of that area, in still ISIS-held territory."

Dillon's comments appeared to hint that the SDF will leave it to government forces to retake the city.

Mohammed Ibrahim Samra, the governor of Deir Az Zour province, said the city has been completely liberated from ISIS.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
despite Samra's comments, opposition activists say that ISIS still control almost 35 percent of the city.

A joint statement said on Friday that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Russia and Iran have agreed on the establishment of a "de-escalation" zone in Syria's northern province of Idlib during a meeting in Kazakhstan's capital Astana.
