...But this column is not about baneful Democrats, bashful Republicans, media dust-ups, the latest Hollywood lefty threatening to leave the country, or even the president's disinclination for politics-as-usual.
Rather, I offer an inventory of under-analyzed, unilateral U-turns undertaken during the initial stages of the Trump administration.
MOSCOW (Reuters) - A military helicopter on a rural training exercise in western Russia mistakenly fired rockets at a group of parked vehicles, knocking at least one person to the ground, footage posted by Russian news sites and on social media showed.
A video clip published on Tuesday by the independent news site Fontanka.ru showed a helicopter firing a salvo of rockets at a military truck covered in camouflage netting in open countryside, with three vehicles with no military markings visible, parked a few meters away.
A man in civilian clothes who had been standing close to the truck was engulfed in a cloud of dust. The person filming the clip, who was slightly further away, could be seen sprawled on the ground.
Russia is currently staging the "Zapad 2017" war games in the area, major exercises on NATO’s eastern flank that were inspected on Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Fontanka.ru said the incident occurred on Sept. 18 and left one person with concussion. It did not give details on the source of the video.
A second video from the same location, which was posted on social media by Russian investigative bloggers Conflict Intelligence Team, showed the aftermath, including a smashed window in a white jeep nearest to the truck, and shrapnel damage to the military truck.
Reuters could not independently verify the videos.
[Times of India] NEW DELHI: India has lately been going hammer and tongs at Pakistan, at international forums and at bilateral meetings, with the newest salvo fired yesterday at the 36th UN Human Rights Congress (UNHRC) when it called its neighbour "the face of international terrorism" and accused it of pursuing "perverse political objectives".
To be sure, some of these occasions that India has criticised Pakistan have been after the latter, as it its wont, has brought up the issue of Kashmir at international forums, like it did at the UNHRC yesterday and like it did last Friday at the UN+ in New York.
Pakistan often looks for ways to bring up the bilateral issue+ of Kashmir on global forums, even though it has been told many times, by both the UN and the US - but not by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) - that issues to do with the troubled state are the business of India and Pakistan alone.
That doesn't appear to matter to Pakistan.
In Geneva, at the UNHRC session that ended yesterday, Pakistan said: "...human needs, desires and the right to self-determination" are "being abused" in Kashmir". It then talked of "10,000 persons ... detained and tortured" in the state, according to a UNHRC statement on its proceedings.
India then exercised its 'right of reply', to savage Pakistan and to talk of how it is once again misusing an international platform. India also said that Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir "is run by a 'deep state' and has become an epicentre of terrorism" where as Kashmiris in J&K have time and again reaffirmed their destiny through India's democratic processes.
"Pakistan has been misusing this august platform to pursue its perverse political objectives...Pakistan's unsolicited and unwarranted comments pertaining to the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir are factually incorrect and absolutely misleading. We outrightly (sic) reject them," said Vishnu Reddy, Indian Foreign Service officer and India's representative at the UNHRC.
[Daily Caller] Two illegal immigrants were killed on a major highway early Sunday morning following a reckless attempt to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego.
A van packed with nine migrants burst through the port of entry at San Ysidro and sped north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Border Patrol agents say the van pulled to the shoulder about a mile up the highway, where the occupants tumbled out at began to flee. As two passengers ran across the southbound lanes of the highway, they were struck and killed by a Chevrolet Trailblazer going about 65 mph in the slow lane, according to officials.
Though Border Patrol agents did not initially pursue the van, they attempted to track down the migrants after receiving notification of the illegal crossing from port of entry officials, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune. By the time agents arrived on the scene, the two individuals had already been killed attempting to cross the interstate.
Agents caught and arrested the seven others thought to have been riding in the van.

I've seen it myself, illegal aliens being chased by Border Patrol agents running across Interstate 5 in heavy traffic. They all made it when I saw them do it and the Border Patrol agent wasn't dumb enough to follow them. But I haven't seen any of those CAUTION signs in a while that show the whole family running across the freeway. Nobody ever paid attention to them. Nobody slows down on I5 when they have a chance to do 70, 80 or 90 mph and if you swerve or brake too hard in those conditions you're just as likely to get yourself killed as the aliens.

[Wash Times] Former Vice President Joe Biden says tech titans like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are fundamentally misunderstanding the importance of work by calling for a "universal basic income."
A blog posted published by the University of Delaware’s Biden Institute on Monday unveiled a "worker first" initiative that rejects "no strings attached" policies prompted by influential billionaires while also fueling speculation about a possible 2020 U.S. presidential run by the former vice president.
"Economic transformations due to rapid advances in technology have created not only significant anxiety but also a legitimate debate about whether there will be sufficient jobs to sustain a vibrant middle class," Mr. Biden’s piece began.
"Some argue that these changes won’t lead to significant net job loss, so we need not worry. Others argue the risks are so great we should close up our borders to minimize the damage. One idea that has gained prominence, particularly among leaders in Silicon Valley, is universal basic income. The theory is that automation will result in so many lost jobs that the only plausible answer is some type of guaranteed government check with no strings attached."
Former President Obama’s right-hand man in the White House continued by saying that work is a virtue that brings with it an intrinsic value going beyond a paycheck.
#1
Joe Biden's opinion is of absolutely no consequence. He is simply the trial balloon handler. The so-called 'Universal Basic Income' (UBI) is the pathway to elimination of Social Security.
While it's not being discussed, in the end you can bet your arse UBI will be.... NEEDS BASED !
#4
I'm not sure what the answer is (work is sort of vital to self-esteem) but at some point a large number of jobs will be replaced by robotics. What does society do at that point? Are we all confident that enough new jobs will appear as jobs are taken over by robots?
#8
I dislike the idea, but not for the reasons I suspect Biden doesn't like the idea. I don't think the silicon valley technogarches who have floated the idea are serious about it. They want to have _just enough_ of it to where people can still afford to buy their products but the technogarches still aspire to a society where they get to be Big Swinging [redacted] but the rest of us don't, especially if we work in sinful industries like real energy.
#9
In order to afford a "Universal Basic Income", there will also be a "[Nearly]Universal Maximum Income". Only those in favor with the government will be able to make more than, say, 50% over the UBI.
But if you have a senator in your pocket, you'll be ROLLING in cash!

Nice pitch to the unthinking unwashed but simply devaluing currency.
[The Hill] Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) on Monday said North Korea's aggressive actions are motivated by the hope that the hostile state can strike a nuclear deal with President Trump similar to the one given to Iran during Obama's administration.
"I think that, right now, they don’t want to fight the United States," Franks said on CNN's "New Day."
"The reality is that North Korea has been paying attention," he continued, pointing to the past weapons deals Pyongyang has made with former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
The Arizona lawmaker says he believes North Korea observed the "incredible compensation" given to Iran in its landmark nuclear deal, motivating them to try to receive the same.
"And then they watched the Iran nuclear deal. In that case, there was incredible compensation given so North Korea is hoping to somehow bluff their way into greater compensation," the House Armed Services Committee member said, adding that the deal did not force Iran to dismantle is nuclear weapons program.
Trump begrudgingly certified that Iran was in compliance with the nuclear deal in July, despite fiercely criticized the agreement as the "the worst deal ever."
Franks's remarks come at a time of heightened tensions after Pyongyang conducted string of recent missile tests and advancement of its nuclear program.

We can give them nukes. A dozen each, launched from a Boomer, not far off shore. A lot of people will be upset, howler a lot, condemn, but in the end, do what they do so well now, nothing. Two problems solved. Hey, they all hate us anyway, so what.
[CNN, yes CNN] US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.
The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump.
Some of the intelligence collected includes communications that sparked concerns among investigators that Manafort had encouraged the Russians to help with the campaign, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. Two of these sources, however, cautioned that the evidence is not conclusive.
Special counsel Robert Mueller's team, which is leading the investigation into Russia's involvement in the election, has been provided details of these communications.
A secret order authorized by the court that handles the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) began after Manafort became the subject of an FBI investigation that began in 2014. It centered on work done by a group of Washington consulting firms for Ukraine's former ruling party, the sources told CNN.

And now through Mueller and the crooked FBI, the gov't is on a quest for discovery. How else can their mischief be justified ?
Similar to the MI6 Christopher Steele Trump dossier, "the evidence is not conclusive."
Some topics are just better discussed on the 'back nine' at Andrews or Belvoir, particularly if your flagship hotel and campaign headquarters are little more than a stone's throw from the British consulate.

We can't even get our own government to hand over the Clinton emails. With all the kak that's been tossed their way, what leverage could we possibly have to retrieve anything from the Russians? Their mission is confusion, obstruction, and western destabilization, not problem resolution. Wat could possibly be in it for the Russians ?

Muller and his henchmen do not require an indictment. All they need to do is to financially destroy their prey. They have virtually unlimited resources to do it, same methodology as the former Soviet Union. The late Ted Stevens was indicted by the Bush Justice Dept, and right during a reelection campaign. Eventually he was exonerated after the election, but the damage was done. Some scathing comments by the Judge toward DoJ lawyers, but nobody lost their jobs and nobody went to jail.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Remarkable footage has emerged from southeastern Syria depicting an entire ISIS fighting force wiped out by a coordinated effort by the Russian Air Force and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
The video showed numerous burned out ISIS vehicles in the desert directly east of government-held Humimah where jihadists continue to launch hit-and-run attacks in a bid to prevent the SAA from reaching the Euphrates River in southern Deir Ezzor.
A second video has also emerged of the same failed jihadist offensive, this time depicting Go-Pro footage of an ISIS bad boy being blown to smithereens by a SAA tank.
In the coming weeks, the SAA’s so-called ’Big Dawn’ offensive is expected to unfold with the ultimate aim of retaking Deir Ezzor province, thus spelling an irreversible defeat for the self-declared caliphate and its leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us... .

[New York Times] When North Korea launched long-range missiles this summer, and again on Friday, demonstrating its ability to strike Guam and perhaps the United States mainland, it powered the weapons with a rare, potent rocket fuel that American intelligence agencies believe initially came from China and Russia. Sourced by China and Russia? Shocking, absolutely shocking.
The United States government is scrambling to determine whether those two countries are still providing the ingredients for the highly volatile fuel and, if so, whether North Korea’s supply can be interrupted, either through sanctions or sabotage. Among those who study the issue, there is a growing belief that the United States should focus on the fuel, either to halt it, if possible, or to take advantage of its volatile properties to slow the North’s program.
But it may well be too late. Intelligence officials believe that the North’s program has advanced to the point where it is no longer as reliant on outside suppliers, and that it may itself be making the potent fuel, known as UDMH. Despite a long record of intelligence warnings that the North was acquiring both forceful missile engines and the fuel to power them, there is no evidence that Washington has ever moved with urgency to cut off Pyongyang’s access to the rare propellant.
Classified memos from both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations laid out, with what turned out to be prescient clarity, how the North’s pursuit of the highly potent fuel would enable it to develop missiles that could strike almost anywhere in the continental United States.
In response to inquiries from The New York Times, Timothy Barrett, a spokesman for the director of national intelligence, said that "based on North Korea’s demonstrated science and technological capabilities ‐ coupled with the priority Pyongyang places on missile programs ‐ North Korea probably is capable of producing UDMH domestically." UDMH is short for unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine.
[DailyMail] A teenage suspect in the Parsons Green bombing was reported to the counter terrorism strategy Prevent months before the attack, it was claimed last night.
The 18-year-old Iraqi refugee, who was fostered by a couple in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, was said to have been in frequent trouble with the police and authorities.
His desperate foster parents were alleged to have been struggling to cope.
Sources yesterday said that his behaviour had become so bad that he had been referred to Prevent, the Government's de-radicalisation programme, which aims to turn potential extremists away from terror.
The referral was apparently made several months ago through Surrey County Council, which was responsible for placing the orphan with Penny and Ronald Jones, who have fostered hundreds of children.
It is unclear what – if anything – was done before Friday morning when the 18-year-old is suspected of planting a bomb on a Tube train at London's Parsons Green station.
The revelation will raise new questions about what the police and security services knew about the suspect. Donald Trump sparked a row on the day of the attack by suggesting that police had had him 'in their sights'.
Yesterday it also emerged that the Joneses, who took in the 18-year-old and another suspect, 21-year-old Yahya Faroukh, are so devastated that they have decided never to foster again.
Police are looking at other foster children for possible links to the two suspects. Experts are also examining a shed in the couple's back garden for traces of bomb-making chemicals.
It is understood [the18 year old Iraqi] had come to Britain aged 15 after he had spent months attempting to smuggle himself into the UK, while living in the notorious makeshift Calais refugee camp known as The Jungle.
A refugee charity is believed to have helped his passage into Britain in 2014 and placed him in foster care with at least two families in Kent, before he moved in with another family in South West London in the last few weeks.
The suspect, who is being held in custody on suspicion of planting the homemade bucket bomb on the London Underground, is said to have had a furious bust-up with his foster parents two weeks ago after he was brought back to the house in leafy Sunbury-upon-Thames in a marked police car.

[AlAhram] The Egyptian state gazette on Monday published a court order by a Cairo criminal court which added 215 people who are facing trial for membership of the Helwan Brigades bad boy group to the country’s terror list.
The Helwan Brigades group first appeared in a video in August 2014, vowing to target all police facilities in Helwan, a southern suburb of Cairo. Their attacks have been linked to both ISIS and the Muslim Brotherhood...
The defendants can appeal the new decision.
In April, the Court of Cassation overturned a previous lower court order placing the defendants on the terror list, citing insufficient reasoning, and sent the case back to the lower court.
The defendants are facing trial on a range of charges connected with the bad boy group’s activities, including calling for the violation of the constitution and the law, preventing the state from exercising its role, assaulting personal freedoms of citizens, and harming national unity and social peace, as well as forming bad boy groups in the period between August 2013 and February 2015.
They have also been accused of committing other crimes, including the murder of a number of police members.
The trials have yet to reach a verdict.
Journalist Alyaa Awad, who was tossed in the slammer Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! in September 2014 and worked for the pro-Moslem Brüderbund news website Rassd, is the only female defendant in the case. She is accused of shooting one of the Helwan Brigades' videos,
Inclusion on the country's terror list means a ban on travel and a freeze on assets.
The current terror list includes more than 2,000 individuals, among them former president Mohammed Morsi, and former Moslem Brüderbund supreme guide Mohammed Badie.
Also listed are businessman Safwan Thabet, the founder of the Juhayna dairy company, and football star Mohammed Abou-Treika.

[DAWN] A United Kingdom (UK) Labour Party spokesperson said the party had turned down an application from the Saudi embassy to attend the party's annual conference in Brighton, HuffPost reported on Monday.
"Following evidence of war crimes committed by Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... in its bombing campaign in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... and other large scale human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... abuses, the NEC agreed that the embassy’s application to attend the Labour Party conference would not be accepted," the spokesperson said.
Representatives from Sudan were also apparently barred from attending the conference, according to a letter to all MPs written by the League of Arab States in London, which announced the cancellation of a reception and dinner event that was to be held by Arab ambassadors.
"Our Council has decided to refrain from attending the Labour Party Conference this year due to the rejection of both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's and the Republic of Sudan's applications to attend the conference," the letter said.
The conference will begin next Sunday on Sept 24.
The Labour Party is a vocal opponent of the arms assistance the UK provides to Saudi Arabia in the ongoing war in Yemen.

[DAWN] A German nationalist party called on Monday for tighter security measures aimed primarily at immigrants colonists, while again insisting that Islam is incompatible with democracy, as Germany's election campaign entered its final stretch.
Alternative for Germany's co-leader Alexander Gauland told news hounds that "Islam is also a political doctrine" and as such "is incompatible with a free democratic order."
"In this respect, it is not a part of Germany," he said.
Alternative for Germany, known by its German acronym AfD, is on its way to enter parliament for the first time in Sunday's national election with about 10 per cent support in recent polls. Gauland says it wants to prevent the "Islamisation of Germany".
Among other proposals, he said AfD wants a ban on minarets and public calls to prayer from mosques, a ban on headscarves for teachers and students, and for imams to lead prayers only in German.
At the same news conference in Berlin, Gauland's co-leader, Alice Weidel, presented a broad range of proposals she said would make Germany safer, including the reintroduction of conscription to enhance border security, imprisoning foreigners who commit crimes in facilities in other countries, and making it tougher to get citizenship and easier to lose it.
Gauland and Weidel were short on specifics about how their proposals could be put into practice, but will likely never have to provide details since any measures would have to be approved first by parliament as well as overcome constitutional challenges. Other parties say they won't include AfD in a new government.
[DW] One week before the German election, the latest voter poll has put the far-right AfD barely ahead of the other "small parties." But Germany's Green party and the liberal FDP haven't given up in the race for third place.

Islam 'incompatible with democracy'
Proven correct.
I'd go further
Islam is incompatible with civilisation
BP that was my immediate thought too, but, it really depends on what definition of civilization you're using. All to many "civilizations" are counter to any idea of civility.
[DefenseOne] If North Korea cooperated and shot their new intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-14, at the United States with adequate warning so that we could prepare, and if the warhead looked pretty much like we expect it to look, and if they only shot one, and if they did not try to spoof the defense with decoys that looked like the warhead, or block the defense with low-power jammers, or hide the warhead in a cloud of chaff, or blind the defense by attacking the vulnerable radars, then, maybe this is true. The United States might have a 50-50 chance of hitting such a missile. If we had time to fire four or five interceptors, then the odds could go up.
But North Korea is unlikely to cooperate. It will do everything possible to suppress the defenses. The 1999 National Intelligence Estimate of the Ballistic Threat to the United States noted that any country capable of testing a long-range ballistic missile would "rely initially on readily available technology ‐ including separating RVs [reentry vehicles], spin-stabilized RVs, RV reorientation, radar absorbing material, booster fragmentation, low-power jammers, chaff, and simple (balloon) decoys ‐ to develop penetration aids and countermeasures."
Our anti-missile systems have never been realistically tested against any of these simple countermeasures. This is one reason that the Pentagon’s current director of operational testing is much more cautious in his assessments than missile defense program officials. "GMD has demonstrate a limited capability to defend the U.S. Homeland from small numbers of simple intermediate-range or intercontinental ballistic missile threats launched from North Korea or Iran," he reports. Moreover, it is impossible, he says, to "quantitatively assess GMD performance due to lack of ground tests" and "the reliability and availability of the operational GBI’s [Ground-Based Interceptors] is low, and the MDA continues to discover new failure modes during testing."
#1
...And of course, the fact that none of the countermeasures this guy lists have been seen shouldn't stop us from panicking and surrendering.
Realistically, the Nork ICBMs are - technology wise - the equal of our first generation Minuteman missiles from the early 60s. They go up, they come down, and with a little luck they go boom. In terms of capability, right now it's a V2 with more range and accuracy.
That isn't to say that they might not develop them in the future, but they sure as hell don't have them now.

It seems that launch accidents happen often so imagining a rocket to be super-robust and able to withstand even minimal damage seems to be giving the North Koreans more credit than they deserve.
Also testing nukes in a bunker under super-controlled conditions seems to be fairly hit-and-miss for the North Koreans. Expecting a warhead to go off as planned after the jarring it would take along the journey seems to be giving the North Koreans a bit too much credit as well.
Not to say that there isn't something to fear here, but realistically the chances of one of their missiles avoiding all attempts to damage it and having it hit a distant target in shape to have the warhead explode as intended seems a bit unlikely to me. At this point.
[RT] Not all Italian farmers welcome a European court ruling this week allowing growers to cultivate genetically-modified corn in Italy. Some farmers told RT that the majority reject GM seeds and question the EU interfering in national laws.
The European Court of Justice on Wednesday ruled in favor of Giorgio Fidenato, an Italian activist farmer who faces fines for growing genetically-modified maize MON 810 on his land in 2014, despite a 2013 government decree banning its cultivation.
In 2013, Italy asked the European Commission to adopt emergency measures prohibiting the planting of the Monsanto-produced seeds in light of new scientific studies carried out by Italian scientists.
The Italian government is fearful that genetically-modified foods are less natural than traditional crops and could therefore be dangerous and have lasting negative effects.
“These crops are forbidden because we still do not understand what the consequences are. So far, there has been no proper and in-depth research. For this reason, we do not know in five years, ten years, twenty years, what can happen,” Mauro Uniformi, Vice President of the Association of Agronomist and Forest Doctors, told RT.

[RT] A 16-year-old girl was raped by two Afghan men near a refugee camp in Bavaria, according to German police. A third one was prevented from sexually abusing the girl by a passerby.
According to a police statement, the teenager had gathered with a large group of people outside a refugee center in the upper Bavaria municipality of Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, located south of Munich.
She later proceeded to walk to the train station without the larger group, but with three Afghan asylum-seekers, who initially were part of the group, the statement says, adding that it was “when the assault … took place.”
Two of the men, aged 27 and 17, raped the girl behind a hedge in front of an abandoned building. A third Afghan refugee, 18, also attempted to rape the girl but was prevented from doing this by a passerby, who arrived at the scene and prompted the three Afghans to flee, the statement says.
Following the incident, police launched a “large-scale manhunt” on the assaulters, involving a helicopter search, and managed to detain them not far from the crime scene.
While the 27- and 17-year-old suspected perpetrators remain in custody, the third one walked free after a judge ruled the man did not pose any further threat or intended to flee.
Although the three men are asylum-seekers, they do not live at the refugee center near the scene of the rape, according to the German Merkur magazine.

Wonder what kind of a passerby makes three Afghans flee?

[Al Jazeera] India's government said on Monday it has evidence showing some Rohingya in the country have ties to "terror organizations" and pose a security threat that justifies a mass deportation of the ethnic group.
India's home ministry said it would confidentially share intelligence information with the Supreme Court showing Rohingya links with Pakistain-based gangs, in a bid to get legal clearance for plans to deport 40,000 Rohingya.
The Supreme Court is hearing an appeal lodged on behalf of Rohingya against the deportation plan proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist government.
India's home ministry submitted an affidavit to the court arguing the hardline stance was justified by the security threat posed by illegal immigrants colonists from the majority-Moslem Rohingya ethnic group, hundreds of thousands of whom have fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh, from where many have crossed into India.
"The court has no business to interfere in such matters of what they call illegal immigrants colonists or illegal migrants colonists," the government said in the affidavit.

Nine Daesh insurgents were killed in an Afghan Air Forces airstrike on Sunday which targeted militant hideouts in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province.
Weapons and vehicles belonging to Daesh were also destroyed during the air raid, the ministry of interior said in a statement on Monday.
In addition, Afghan National Police (ANP) on Sunday also foiled four IEDs attack plots in Nangarhar province.
The IEDs were placed by insurgents in Jalalabad City, Muhmand Dara and Bati Koot districts.
“Discoveries like this demonstrate the ever-increasing capability of the Afghan National Security Forces to protect the civilians from indiscriminate IED attacks,” the statement read.
The statement also called on members of the public to report suspicious activities and criminal acts by calling 119.

[RT] A Liberal Democratic Party MP has proposed making false reports of terrorist attacks equal with providing assistance to terrorists. The move came soon after a wave of bomb threats caused mass evacuations all over Russia.
Presently assisting terrorist activities, including sponsorship of terrorist organizations, is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, but suspects can evade it completely if they voluntarily report the plans of attack and help to effectively prevent it.
Earlier in the week, a wave of anonymous phone calls across Russia caused evacuations of over 130,000 people from over 420 sites. Not a single threat has proved to be true, but still the estimated combined damage from the disrupted work of various organizations and transport amounted to about 1 billion rubles ($17.2 million), according to deputy chair of the State Duma Committee for Defense, Yury Shvytkin (United Russia).
Sources in law enforcement agencies have told RIA Novosti that investigators did not rule out that the people who made the false calls were connected with the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS). They also added that the calls were made from outside Russia but nevertheless some actual perpetrators were established and will soon be put on international wanted lists.
On Friday afternoon, Kommersant daily reported that several people had been detained in Russia for making false reports of planned terrorist attacks via telephones or on social networks.
However, Kommersant’s sources said that all of the detained were teenagers who apparently were provoked into such actions by earlier false calls from abroad.
Qaim (IraqiNews.com) War on ISIS Update: A senior Islamic State security commander was killed on Monday when warplanes pounded group locations in western Anbar, a security source was quoted saying.
Fighter jets from the United States-led coalition killed Hussein Ahmed al-Abdullah, aka Abu Hamza al-Ansari, a Syrian, an an air raid on the town of Qaim, west of Anbar and near the borders with Syria.
According to the source, quoted speaking in a statement reported by SNG website, al-Ansari was an outstanding security commander within IS, and had been involved in the execution and detention of civilians and security members in Waim, Rutba and the Syrian Boukamal city.
War on ISIS Update
Islamic State has lost tens of thousands of local and foreign members in Iraqi, U.S.-backed campaigns since 2016.
Islamic State militants have held the towns of Annah, Rawa and Qaim, on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, since 2014, holding thousands of civilians there. Security reinforcements have reportedly been sent recently near those towns preparing for an attack against the group.
While the Iraqi government said late August that its next target of anti-IS military action was Kirkuk’s Hawija, some officials were quoted saying that parallel operations in western Anbar could also be carried out.
Annah (IraqiNews.com) Iraq News Today: United States artillery forces bombarded Islamic State militants locations in western Anbar on Monday as military mobilizations signal an imminent offensive targeting the region.
A security source told Alghad Press that U.S. artillery pounded IS locations in Annah, Rawa and Raihaneh, adding that Iraqi security forces were moving towards the latter to recapture it.
“U.S artillery forces are currently stationed near the resistance line in al-Sakra to back up military troops in the liberation of western regions,” the source told the website.
The United States has been leading an international military coalition that backed Iraqi forces in its campaign to recapture Islamic State-held areas since 2014.
Iraq News
On Saturday, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi issued a statement congratulating the nation for the recapture of Akashat region, west of Anbar, in a “snap operation” which he said left hundreds of militants dead.

A 17-year-old girl who was abandoned by her family after falling pregnant has given birth on a street in India, according to local media reports.
The girl gave birth on the side of the road in Chandil, a town in the state of Jharkhand in eastern India. She was said to have been less than 100 meters (330ft) from a health center.
A video published online purportedly shows the girl hunkered down with her baby in the street as cars and motorcycles pass by. The newborn, whose umbilical cord is still attached, is pictured crying as it lies wrapped in its mother’s dress.
Jagran.com, the website of India’s most widely read newspaper Dainik Jagran, reports that no doctors or nurses from the nearby medical center came to the girl’s aid despite locals alerting them to what was happening on their doorstep.
Local resident Om Prakash Sharma came across the girl on the street with her clothes drenched in blood, The Hindustan Times reports.
“She was in a miserable state. She was shivering and unable to lift and cuddle her infant. Heavy vehicles were crossing by but she didn’t have strength to move aside,” he said.
“Eventually, we put roadblocks around her and approached the CHC (Community Health Center) to take away the mother [and the] child.”
The girl finally got medical attention after locals transported her to the health center in a rickshaw. Locals later confronted doctors at the health center to demand to know why the woman had not been taken care of.
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Baghdad Iraq: A police member died and two army soldiers were wounded on Monday in two bomb blasts in eastern and southern Baghdad, local police sources were quoted saying.
Baghdad Today quoted a security source saying that a Federal Police member was killed when an ID fitted beneath a taxi exploded in Husseiniyat al-Rashidiya, east of the capital.
IkhNews website quoted the source saying that an army patrol was passing in Muhaisen region, south of Baghdad, before a roadside bomb went off, leaving two soldiers wounded.
Security forces launched a search for perpetrators in nearby areas, according to the source. The area was cordoned off and the casualties were carried to hospital.
Baghdad Iraq
The Iraqi capital has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary troops and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Islamic State-occupied areas in 2016. While most of of the explosions and attacks went without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has claimed several incidents.

[CBS] Toys R Us has hired a law firm to help restructure its roughly $400 million in debt due in 2018, a move that could include the marquee toy store filing for bankruptcy protection, sources familiar with the situation said Wednesday.
Addressing the retailer's debt load prior to the crucial holiday season could give its major vendors such as Mattel and Hasbro clarity into the company's long-term viability to help ensure the toymakers continue to stock its shelves throughout the holidays.
Toys R Us has hired restructuring lawyers at Kirkland & Ellis to help address the looming payments, the people said.
Hiring a law firm like Kirkland is not indicative of a bankruptcy filing, and many companies work with law firms to successfully refinance or restructure their debt without filing for protection.
Update from Reuters at 10:50 a.m. EDT: they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

...Toys R Us was unpleasantly overpriced forty years ago, and it hasn't gotten any better - I've been in once in the last twenty years, to pick up a gift for my grandson which we ordered online for pickup.
And they screwed it up.
I can get the same stuff from Amazon 20% (or better) cheaper and not have to deal with deranged crowds and dead-souled employees.

It's profitable before interest payments, so it will survive. The equity owners and unsecured debt holders will probably need to take a haircut. The LBO simply piled on too much debt based on record low interest rates. The LBO investors got way too greedy. They should have completed a stock offering to lighten the debt load. Now they'll have to deal with an involuntary restructuring, because panicky vendors cut off their air supply. This isn't an Amazon problem - it's a private equity LBO problem triggered by over-optimistic spreadsheet jockey assumptions, probably dictated by senior partners at the private equity firms involved.
[Daily Caller] The uncorroborated dossier of opposition research about Donald Trump has become a key document in the investigation over whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government during the presidential campaign last year.
Democrats have insisted that many claims made in the dossier, written by former British spy Christopher Steele, have been proven accurate. Republican lawmakers say otherwise, leading to a standoff between the two sides over the 35-page document, published by BuzzFeed News on Jan. 10.
Here is what we know about the salacious document.
Jan. 2010: Steele’s London-based intelligence firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, first hires opposition research firm Fusion GPS to work on an undisclosed project. Steele made this revelation in May 2017 in a court filing in London, where he is being sued by a Russian tech executive named in the dossier.
Sept. 2015: An anti-Trump Republican donor reportedly hires Fusion GPS to begin investigating Trump’s past. The donor has yet to be identified.
June 2016: As Trump ascends to the GOP nomination, the Republican donor leaves the Trump research project. Fusion GPS soon finds an unidentified Democratic ally of Hillary Clinton’s to take over the investigation. Fusion then hires Steele, a former MI6 agent with extensive experience in Moscow.
June 9: Members of the Trump campaign team meet at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer and Russian-American lobbyist who have some connection to Fusion GPS. Donald Trump Jr. accepted the meeting after a friend offered to provide negative information about Hillary Clinton. Trump Jr. and the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitkaya, claim that the information regarded the Magnitsky Act, a sanctions law opposed by the Russian government.
Veselnitskaya was working alongside Fusion GPS last year to undercut the Magnitsky Act. There has been some speculation that the Trump Tower meeting is vaguely described in the dossier.
June 17: Sergei Millian, an alleged source in the dossier, meets in St. Petersburg, Russia with Oleg Deripaska, an ally of Vladimir Putin’s and a former client of then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Millian, the head of the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce, has been identified as "Source D" and "Source E" in different memos in the dossier. On and on it goes.

The Steele dossier was so salacious and unverifiable that high-level circulation became something of a challenge until of course, it was placed into the hands of Senator John McCain. An absolute stroke of genius that.
Even McCain was reluctant to be closely associated with the dossier, choosing rather to send trusted emissaries(s) to retrieve it, in yes London, for dissemination to the Soetoro regime.
The UK's intelligence services, home to some of the best sleuths in the world and certainly not pro-Russian, were also reluctant to discuss the dossier let alone comment on it's potential sources or validity.
The dossier served it's purpose of providing half-truths, lies, and linking Trump to the Russians. It likely also provided a foundation or justification for FISA snooping, bugging, etc.
All in all I'd judge, a good effort by the Deep State.
[DAWN] Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif on Sunday said the US President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... administration's "militaristic approach" in Afghanistan represented a failed policy, and called for talks with the Taliban ...Arabic for students... to bring peace to the war-torn country.
Asif, who is heading to New York to participate in the 72nd session of the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... General Assembly (UNGA) session, told The Wall Street Journal newspaper in Islamabad that he could not understand how the American military could succeed now in Afghanistan when it had not during the "surge" under the B.O. regime with a force eight times as large as the one now planned.
The foreign minister instead called for peace talks with the Taliban, which, he said, could be arranged if Washington worked with countries in the region that have influence over the Taliban myrmidon group.
"They are pursuing a folly, a strategy that has already failed," the foreign minister said in an interview with the Journal. "Force will not solve any problem, it has not solved problems in the past."
Asif said he would tell the UN members that "peace should return to this area and force is not the solution."
On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said that there could be no military solution to the Afghan conflict and called for efforts towards creating a political solution.

[DAWN] United States (US) President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... made his debut at the United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... on Monday, using his first moments at the world body to urge the 193-nation organization to reduce bureaucracy and costs while more clearly defining its mission around the world.
But while Trump chastised the United Nations, an organization he sharply criticised as a presidential candidate for its spiralling costs, he said the United States would "pledge to be partners in your work" in order to make the UN "a more effective force" for peace across the globe.
"In recent years, the United Nations has not reached its full potential due to bureaucracy and mismanagement," said Trump, who rebuked the United Nations for a ballooning budget. "We are not seeing the results in line with this investment."
The president pushed the UN to focus "more on people and less on bureaucracy" and to change "business as usual and not be beholden to ways of the past which were not working."
He also suggested that the US was paying more than its fair share to keep the New York-based world body operational.

President Trump is, in a friendly and cooperative way, saying that the UN needs to reform itself, or it will go out of existence. He is playing good cop right now, but laying the groundwork to put the monkey on the back of member nations to get their act together or face the consequences of their inaction. Everything is calculated.
Just like how he approached NATO. Take on your responsibilities because the US will not save you from yourselves. Played the bad cop role there.

[DAWN] Hurricane Maria strengthened on Monday as it blasted towards the eastern Caribbean, a region already struggling to recover from mega-storm Irma.
The United States (US) National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Maria had intensified to a Category Two storm as it approached the French territory of Guadeloupe, the base for relief operations for several islands hit by Irma this month.
Guadeloupe was on "red alert" on Monday, with schools, businesses and government offices ordered to close, as was neighbouring Martinique, which is also part of La Belle France. Each has a population of around 400,000 people.
The hurricane, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometres an hour according to the NHC, is expected to hit Guadeloupe at around midday local time.
It was expected to strengthen further into a Category Three "major hurricane", the NHC warned.
Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis and the British island of Montserrat are also on alert.

Annah (IraqiNews.com) ISIS news update today: Islamic State militants have executed four senior leaders for fleeing the group’s stronghold in western Anbar, a paramilitary leader said Monday as military offensives targeting the region loom.
Qatari al-Obaidi, a senior mobilization leader in al-Baghdadi region, told Alsumaria News that Islamic State executioners shot dead four senior leaders at the Syrian city of al-Boukamal, on the borders with Anbar, after they had fled Annah.
Islamic State has executed several members since Iraqi forces launched in 2016 a wide-scale operation to retake areas held by the group since 2014. Members were commonly executed for slack battlefield performance, treason and attempting to flee the group’s strongholds.

Despite further appeals for a ceasefire in Sabratha from local officials as well as from Libyan human rights organisations clashes in the town continued for a third day today.
However, it is reported that there has been no repeat of yesterday’s intense fighting in which tanks and heavy weapons were deployed, with random firing into residential areas.
There was a truce today during which families caught up in the conflict could be evacuated. However while the Red Crescent was undertaking the operation, the Amu Brigade is to have launched a fresh attack in which one person was killed and six people injured.
Indeed the town’s municipal council has blamed the continuing violence on Ahmed Dabbashi’s Amu brigade: “The efforts of the wise and honest people of Sabratha to deal with this problem have not stopped since this morning” it said in a statement today. “The good people agreed on the need to stop the clashes…but the parties involved did not commit to stopping the fighting”.
The council also made the point that the fighting between Amu and a militia supporting the Libyan National Army (LNA) was “an internal” affair which in no way permitted the involvement of outside forces. Yet at the same time the council also demanded “the competent authorities, foremost the Presidency Council and the ministry of defence, intervene and address the problem”.
The council was clearly reacting to reports that the LNA’s Zintan-based western commander Colonel Idris Madi had ordered local units to mobilise. In July a force of some 500 LNA supporters from the Watiya airbase and surrounding towns came into Sabratha and forced the Islamists out of the town.
The fighting began on Saturday following the killing of an Amu member who refused to stop at a checkpoint run by the LNA-linked militia. The checkpoint was then attacked by Amu people causing two further deaths.
Much of the firing appears to have random by people perhaps unfamiliar with the weapons. It is reported that at least one shell landed in the ancient ruins of Sabratha damaging the theatre. Until now the archaeological site, which is arguably the finest-preserved in Libya, had largely escaped damage in the conflict.

[THEHILL] Hillary Clinton said she wouldn’t rule out challenging the legitimacy of the 2016 presidential election if Russian interference turned out to be deeper than previously thought.
“No, I wouldn't rule it out,” she said in an interview with NPR published Monday.
The defeated Democratic nominee stressed, however, that she does not believe there is a means to officially challenge the election’s outcome.
“I don't know if there's any legal, constitutional way to do that,” Clinton said. “I think you can raise questions.”
Clinton has repeatedly blamed Russia’s efforts to intervene in last year’s election for her loss to Donald Trump, but her latest comments reflect the depth of her frustration with the Kremlin’s efforts.
They come as special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating the election-meddling campaign that U.S intelligence agencies say was done to benefit Trump, and whether any of the president’s associates colluded with Moscow.
“[Trump] knew they were trying to do whatever they could to discredit me with emails, so there's obviously a trail there,” Clinton said. “I don't know that in our system we have any means of doing that, but I just wanted to add to the point you made. There's no doubt they influenced the election: We now know more about how they did that.”

More spoon banging in the main dining complex. Can't someone get her a tart? She likes tarts.
My guess, and only a guess, is that she suffered a stroke sometime during the election. Her judgement, dodgy before, is now suffering irreversible confusement.
A half-master, both her and McCane, possibly a few more. There's no escaping Father Time.
Look, this is becoming tiresome. And worse, it's bad sportsmanship, which is completely un-American. Every four years, we have an election. Regularly. You can set your calendar by it. And each time, the outcome is hotly contested with each party predicting the End of Civilization if the other side wins.
Invariably, one side or the other *does* win and there is a bit of pouting, but then everyone accepts the results, says "Nice game!" and goes home to prepare for the next outing. To do otherwise is bad manners.
I understand Hillary thought the fix was in and there was no way she could lose. But it's time to cowboy up. Nobody likes a sore loser.

[UPI] U.S. Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis warns that the military is in grave danger of becoming a "hollow force."
Few Americans, especially in Congress, understand that the most pernicious and potentially most dangerous threat to the United States military is not North Korea, Daesh, Iran or even Russia or China. Instead, this threat is homegrown, ironically arising from the law and the way the Department of Defense is forced to conduct its business.
In a letter to Sen. John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, with copies to other members dated Sept. 8, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis specified reasons why the U.S. military is in grave danger.
Citing the harm done to the U.S. military by a combination of continuing resolutions, as opposed to passing a real defense budget; sequestration that imposes mandatory and arbitrary cuts; and budget caps that limit defense spending, Mattis bluntly informed Congress that without relief "our air, land and sea fleets will erode." The secretary's understatement speaks volumes. In fact, the U.S. military is at great risk of becoming a "hollow force," that is a force incapable of carrying out its missions and infected with low morale.
Following Vietnam, as happens after every war, the U.S. military imploded into a hollow force. The consequence is that when it was ordered into action, it often failed. Desert One, the raid to free 54 Americans held hostage in Tehran in 1980 was the textbook case of military failure. Had war broken out in Korea or against the Soviet Union, it would not have gone well. Fortunately, deterrence and containment prevailed and the hollow force did no lasting damage to the nation.

[IsraelTimes] Rami Hamdallah to travel to Strip to reassert Paleostinian Authority control over ministries, adviser to Abbas says
Paleostinian Authority Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah is poised to visit Gazoo for talks, a bigwig said Monday, after the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group agreed to steps toward resolving a decade-long split with its West Bank-based rival Fatah.
Hamas announced Sunday it had agreed to demands by PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... ’s Fatah party to dissolve what is seen as a rival administration in Gazoo, while saying it was ready for elections and negotiations toward forming a unity government.
Hamdallah plans to travel to Gazoo City to meet Hamas leaders and assert the PA government’s control over ministries, Nabil Shaath, a senior adviser to Abbas, told journalists in the West Bank city of Ramallah, as a first step toward implementing a larger agreement.
"We await the first steps on the ground. We want to see Mr. Hamdallah received by Hamas, the door to all the ministries open," he said. "That really could happen in the next 24 hours."
Abbas’s internationally recognized PA’s seat of power is in the West Bank, but it has had no control in Gazoo for a decade ‐ after Hamas seized the Strip following bloody festivities with Fatah in 2007.
Hamdallah has not visited Gazoo since 2015, and a previous attempt at a unity government fell apart that year, with the two sides exchanging blame.
In recent months Abbas has sought to squeeze Hamas by reducing power supply to the Strip, with the two million residents receiving only three or four hours of mains electricity per day as a result.
He has also reduced the salaries of some employees in Gazoo, while the number of Gazooks receiving PA permits to travel for medical care has declined.
The Independent Commission for Human Rights, based in the West Bank, called Tuesday for such measures to be reversed after Hamas dissolved the so-called administrative committee, seen as a rival government and created in March.
Shaath said Abbas wanted to reverse the punitive measures, but he did not give a timetable.
"When the president supported these economic measures (against Gazoo) he said they will stop immediately once the self-rule governance of Hamas ends and the consensus government takes place. He didn’t put any other conditions whatsoever."

[ALMASDARNEWS] With its popularity reaching an all-time low, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (Syrian al-Qaeda branch) is changing its strategy to win hearts and minds in Idlib, considered opposition heartland.
In a brand new propaganda video, HTS initially complained about the corruption of rival factions on the Syrian battlefield, then proceeded to emphasize its role in cracking down on alleged ISIS sleeper cells in the province.
The footage features raids on ISIS hideouts in Idlib city and the town of Sarmin. Some of the material is graphic; viewer discretion is therefore advised:
According to HTS’ media wing, al-Qaeda’s security forces have raided 64 ISIS bases and tossed in the clink Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! 170 Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... members in 2017.
Once close allies, the two rival jihadist factions have been at odds since early 2014 when ISIS broke off ties to al-Qaeda only to declare their own caliphate barely half a year later.
Some 300 ISIS sleeper cells are said to have escaped Idlib through the Ottoman Turkish border in recent months.
Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his leg. Son of a Breech! he exclaimed with feeling...... rumours of a looming invasion by the Ottoman Turkish Army remain persistent and ongoing. The goal of such an Ankara-led offensive would be to depose HTS which has consolidated its power over the summer.

The blasts occurred in the Konduga area, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, both of which have been repeatedly targeted by the jihadist group.
On August 16, at least 28 people were killed and more than 80 injured when threeexploding trollop female suicide bombers detonated their explosives outside a camp for displaced persons in Konduga.
A rescue worker said the first blast on Monday happened at 11:10 am (1010 GMT) in the village of Mashalari. "(It) killed 15 people and left 43 others injured," he told AFP.
"It happened during aid distribution by an NGO, when people had gathered to receive donations," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... "Twelve minutes later, another bomber struck, but luckily only she died."
The rescue worker said both bombers were women but did not specify which NGO was distributing aid.
Northeast Nigeria is in the grip of a humanitarian crisis caused by the Islamist Boko Haram insurgency, which has left at least 20,000 people dead and displaced more than 2.6 million since 2009.
The violence has devastated farming, leading to chronic food shortages and leaving hundreds of thousands of people on the brink of starvation and dependent on aid agencies for help.
Babakura Kolo, from the Civilian Joint Task Force, a militia assisting the military with security against Boko Haram, confirmed the rescue worker's account.
"We have dispatched out team to the scene," he said.
Nigeria's military and government maintains that Boko Haram is a spent force as a result of a sustained counter-insurgency campaign over the last two years.
But continued attacks, particularly in hard-to-reach rural areas of Borno, suggest claims of outright victory are premature.
This month, jihadists fired a rocket-propelled grenade into a camp for the internally displaced near the border with Cameroon ...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there... , killing seven.
Amnesia Amnesty International says Boko Haram attacks since April have killed nearly 400 people in Nigeria and Cameroon -- double the figure of the previous five months.
The U.N. children's fund said last month that 83 children had been used as suicide bombers this year, four times as many as in all of 2016.
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the first time in over five years, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has landed on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir Ezzor after completely decimating ISIS forces over the past few months.
Exploring a weak point in the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... ’s defensive line on Monday, the SAA used modified Russian-manufactured vehicles to establish a beachhead southeast of the city.
Subsequently, elite SAA assault units reportedly overran the villages of Marrat and Mazlum where engineers are working on entrenching positions to deter a looming ISIS counter-offensive from driving government forces back into the sea.
Meanwhile, ...back at the pond, the enormous newt was trying to decide if Gloria was edible... fierce festivities continue on the contested Sakr Island while jihadist bandidos bad boys suddenly face being trapped inside ISIS-held suburbs of the scenic provincial capital.
Long term, Suheil al-Hassan and Issam Zahreddine ‐ the two leading SAA commanders in Deir Ezzor ‐ hope to strike further eastwards and retake the border with Iraq.
This military endavour would also cutoff the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from land-grabbing further ISIS territory in the governorate.

In the western countryside, the reporter said that army units advanced to the direction of Ayn al-Bo-Jimaa and al-Kharita after they restored new points amid the withdrawal of terrorists Takfiri organization towards the remaining terrorist groups in specific locations in the desert.
The reporter said that the military operations resulted in the death of a number of terrorists, including Mohammad Aziz al-Hanto, Omar Jamil al-Alloum, Abdul-Hadi al-Alloum from al-Shaqra village.
Meanwhile, a group of locals ambushed a car belonging to ISIL near the railway in the vicinity of the city of al-Bukamal in the far eastern countryside of the province, destroying it and leaving all the five terrorists on board dead.
A military source said that the first two cargo planes landed at Deir Ezzor Airport carrying large quantities of needed materials to supply army forces operating in Deir Ezzor after the surroundings of the airport have been fully secured.

News: An appeals court judge has revived the defamation lawsuit by UVA fraternity students against Rolling Stone.
The original story that accused the frat bros of gang rape was both preposterous and uncorroborated, or what us non-journalists call bullsh1t. If anyone was bidding on the magazine, you can drop your offer by a couple orders of magnitude.

The seized arsenal was exposed in the town of Aqirbat of eastern Hama countryside while the government forces were mopping up the area.
Once a major stronghold for the terror group in central Syria, Aqirbat had fallen to the Syrian Army after fierce battles with the jihadi hard boys.
The arsenal included ammunition, sophisticated warheads, IED workshop, vehicles and tanks. Most of the shown vehicles have been destroyed by Arclight airstrikes that propelled the ground invasion.

[Daily Caller] A legal defense fund has been established for Michael Flynn to help the former national security adviser pay his legal bills amid multiple investigations related to the 2016 election.
Flynn’s brother and sister, Joe Flynn and Barbara Redgate, are operating the fund, which began accepting donations early Monday morning.
The fund, which has been in the works since July, is being established to help Flynn’s family cover the "tremendous" legal bills he’s racked up since coming under investigation for his business activities during the presidential campaign, the fund’s website states.
Flynn’s legal expenses are expected to reach well into six-figure territory.
"The various investigations arising out of the 2016 presidential election have placed a tremendous financial burden on our brother Mike and his family," Flynn’s siblings said in a statement issued through the retired lieutenant general’s attorney, Robert Kelner. This posting should in no way be viewed as a solicitation.

My sympathy for Flynn is mitigated by his excellent $ received from lobbying for Turkish and Russian entities without registering as a Foreign Agent. Reckless (just like his Rolling Stone article)

No matter what the fickle crowd does, jonor these men with your own research for the truth. He made mistakes in battle but he won the war for independence. He made the most of the knowledge he had.
You live or die by making the most of your situation. You want to know what really happened on the night the Alamo fell? Its actual fall was nothing like American history said it was fos over 200 years. David Crockett did not die fighting off a hoard of Mexicans all around him. Travis was not killed on the walls of the Alamo.
For two weeks these men held off thousands of Santa Anna's frontal assaults beautifully. After two weeks of failure Santa Anna HAD to change strategy drastically. The mid twenties year old Colonel Travis did not expect what happened next. On that moonless night Santa Anna went guerilla at 4am. A smal number of his troops creeped up on several sleeping defenders positioned outside the walls and quietly neutralized them. They then quietly probed the walls in total darkness until they found a way over the top. A runner went and notified the others under Santa Anna. Enough of them got inside the walls to begin killing the sleeping defenders. Travis was killed in bed. History says a young Alamo defender went into the chapel and told the woman who survived, "THEY ARE INSIDE THE WALLS!". This was not after a glorious defensive battle. It was a surprise change of strategy of stealth. To Crockett's credit he and six others had to be talked into surrendering. They were promised they would live. But Santa Anna rode in and ordered the 7 killed by the slashing of the swords. The Mexicans said the 7 never humbled themselves before thier captors. The majority of the Mexicans who died that night died that night, died via friendly fire due to the deep darkness of hour of battle. But the Mexicans said that taking the Alamo via implementing this new strategy was but "a small affair".
To learn how to survive in war, search for the TRUTH! And make your generals men of many years of experience.
[AnNahar] Thirty-one former employees of a now shuttered Ottoman Turkish newspaper that had backed the US-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen ... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world... went on trial Monday charged with links to the failed 2016 coup.
Those on trial include writers and executives from the Zaman daily and its English-language sister publication Today's Zaman, which were taken over by the state in March 2016 and shut down in July that year.
The trial is the latest to get underway for journalists in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... under the state of emergency imposed after the botched putsch, fuelling growing concerns over press freedoms in the country.
Both publications were closely aligned with Gulen, whom Turkey accuses of orchestrating the July 15, 2016, coup attempt against President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him... . Gulen has strongly denied No, no! Certainly not! the charge.
Twenty-two suspects in the case are being held in detention, with the remainder free under judicial supervision or on the run, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.
The trial is being held at a special courthouse next to the Silivri prison complex on the outskirts of Istanbul.
Those being held in jail include the prominent academic and former Zaman columnist Mumtazer Turkone and the writer Sahin Alpay.
They are charged with seeking to overthrow the Ottoman Turkish government and with membership in an armed terror group. If found guilty, they face multiple life sentences.
According to the P24 press freedom website, there are 171 journalists behind bars in Turkey, most detained under the state of emergency.
Dozens are currently on trial, with the most prominent and controversial case being pursued against staff at the anti-Erdogan Cumhuriyet daily.
Seventeen suspects are on trial in that case, including writers, executives and even cartoonists, and five of them are being detained during the proceedings.
The Cumhuriyet employees say they vigorously opposed the coup and have long been critical of Gulen. One of the paper's writers on trial, Ahmet Sik, even wrote a book exposing Gulen's role in Ottoman Turkish politics.
Once an ally of Erdogan and his Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party, Gulen amassed huge influence through supporters in the media, the judiciary, police and education.
But in the last half decade he fell out with the government, which accused the Pennsylvania-based preacher of seeking to build a "parallel state" aimed at usurping Erdogan.
Zaman and Today's Zaman used to be supportive of Erdogan but became hugely critical as tensions rose between him and Gulen.

[Ynet] Three young Paleostinians, aged 15-16, were indicted at the Ofer military tribunal for throwing charges, Molotov cocktails and stones at security forces operating in the Rachel's Tomb complex.

[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... launched a military drill featuring tanks close to the Iraqi border on Monday, the army said, a week before Iraq's Kurdish region will hold an independence referendum.
Despite opposition from Turkey, Iran and the United States, the Kurdistan Regional Government's leaders have said they will hold the non-binding independence vote on September 25.
Ankara has previously warned against the poll, saying it could risk "civil war" and will "have a cost" if it goes ahead.
Despite forging strong ties with the KRG in northern Iraq in recent years, Turkey fears the vote could stoke separatist aspirations among its own sizeable Kurdish minority.
Ankara's national security council will meet on September 22 to discuss the country's official position on the poll but President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him... on Sunday said it was a "mistake".
He was speaking before leaving for the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... General Assembly, where he will meet Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi -- whose Baghdad government is also fiercely against the KRG's move.
Jan Kubis, the top UN envoy in Iraq, last week offered international backing for immediate negotiations between the country's federal government and the autonomous region in a bid to get Iraqi Kurdish leader Massud Barzani to drop the plans.
The Ottoman Turkish military exercise began in the Silopi-Habur region in the country's south, close to northern Iraq, the armed forces said.
"Simultaneously with this exercise, counter-terrorism operations in the border region continue," a statement added.
Witnesses in the region said they saw around 100 military vehicles deployed, including tanks, in the early hours of Monday, an AFP correspondent said.

[DallasNews] Dallas ISD is researching the histories of Ben Franklin, Sam Houston, Thomas Jefferson and 17 other historical figures, looking into whether their connections with slavery or the Confederacy should prompt reconsideration of their names on DISD campuses. Apparently, there are no Dallas schools named for George Washington.
"This was just a very quick review of looking at the biographies of the individuals," DISD chief of school leadership Stephanie Elizalde told trustees on Sept. 14. "And if there was any association with Confederacy ‐ not making a judgment for or against ‐ just if we saw Confederacy named in it, we then highlighted it. We are now in the process of doing a second [look]." Ben Franklin's biography had the word "confederate" in it? I wonder what the context was? Confederation of States?
...that list, which includes Texas revolutionaries and founders such as Sam Houston, James Bowie and William Travis, U.S. presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and Dallas pioneers James Gaston and William Brown Miller. Elizalde acknowledged to trustees the difficulty in drawing a line on where to proceed. Why not just name them all after people of color? Barry Obama, Winifred Mandela, Huey Newton, Malcolm X, and Bill Clinton?
Some of the schools' namesakes were involved with the Confederacy, but in lesser army ranks or non-combat roles. As examples, Elizalde mentioned John H. Reagan, the Confederacy's postmaster, and Nancy Cochran, who according to Elizalde's research, "encouraged her sons" to fight for the Confederacy. How about using the names of the Buffalo Soldiers or the Tuskegee Airmen? Or would that remind the snowflakes of their less-than-privileged status at that time in history?
"I will not support a name change for Franklin since Benjamin Franklin clearly had many accomplishments that form the basis for why the school was named after him," Marshall wrote. "I don't believe this school was named after Franklin to send a signal of oppression and control."
None of the schools named after those with segregationist leanings made the list. So the witch hunt is just beginning.
Foreman said several of her constituents had asked for William H. Atwell Law Academy to be included, since Atwell used his position as a federal district court judge in the late 1950's to stymie desegregation in Dallas schools. Wait - judges can be bad, too? Or just judges from 50 years ago?
Also, Dallas City Council member Philip Kingston encouraged the reconsideration of W.T. White High School. That school was named after a long-time Dallas ISD superintendent who did not integrate the district after the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 1954 ruling Brown vs. Board of Education until forced by court order. Kingston said that White was honored with the naming while still in his role as the superintendent "because of his successful delay of desegregation."
Schools to be Renamed
1. Albert Sidney Johnston Elementary School
2. William L. Cabell Elementary School
3. Stonewall Jackson Elementary School

4. James Bowie Elementary School
5. James S. Hogg Elementary School

[IsraelTimes] The United States is establishing its first ever official, permanent military base in Israel: an air defense base in the heart of the Negev desert, Brig. Gen. Tzvika Haimovitch, head of the IAF’s Aerial Defense Command, announces.
Dozens of US Air Force soldiers will be based at the new site, located inside the Israeli Air Force’s Mashabim Air Base, west of the towns of Dimona and Yerucham.
"It’s nothing less than historic," Haimovitch says. It demonstrates the "years-old alliance between the United States and the State of Israel."
The Israeli brigadier general tells news hounds that the establishment of a permanent US base in Israel "allows us to improve our defense, in discovery and in interception and in preparedness."
Haimovitch denies that the timing of the base opening was tied to any specific current event, and noted that the process of establishing it had been in the works for some two years.
The "base within a base" will be run by the US military’s European Command (EUCOM). It includes barracks, offices and support services.
In his speech, Maj. Gen. John Gronski, deputy commander of US Army National Guard in Europe, said the base "symbolizes the strong bond that exists between the United States and Israel."
It is located not far from a US military radar installation east of Dimona that tracks ballistic missiles once they are launched and provides details on their flight paths to defense systems.
US military forces are routinely based in Israel, both for joint exercises and for routine cooperation with the IDF, but Haimovitch described the new base as a meaningful change.
[RT] A bus driver in Italy has sustained numerous injuries after being beaten by a group of men in Parma to the cheers of a larger crowd of alleged immigrants. The attack, which could have been racially motivated, was filmed on camera.
Two videos have emerged from the scene. The first shows around a dozen of people of color, allegedly foreign migrants, shouting and yelling at a bus driver, as a fellow Tep bus company employee, tries to calm down the infuriated crowd.
Following repeated insults, as the second video shot by a passenger on the bus shows, a young black man getting onto the bus, striking the bus driver to the ground. At least three men helped instigate the assault.
The driver was saved by a policeman who rushed to the scene. The victim suffered several bruises and a cut to his nose. According to local media, the veteran Tep bus driver of 31 years was admitted to a hospital with various injuries.
It is not yet clear what prompted Tuesday's incident or whether or not the assailants were migrants who have come to Italy from Africa. While Italian police and Tep conduct their own separate investigations, two different versions of the events have emerged, Italian media reported.
According to the driver, who has not been identified, he was attacked for no particular reason. He says that the rowdy crowd was waiting for him Tuesday following an earlier incident Monday.
“My colleagues told me to be attentive to the presence of a group of foreigners on the square [at the bus depot in Parma],” the driver told Parma Repubblica. “I tried to drive away but they started to yell, kick and throw [themselves] at the bus. Fortunately, I did not have any passengers and I could pull away.”
After the incident Monday, the driver alleges that he reported the attempted assault to his superiors at Tep. He asked for law enforcement to be sent to the same spot the next day, should their be a repeat of the incident.
When he arrived Tuesday, the driver said, “they were waiting for me, they kicked and kicked the bus.”
“By the force of their blows, they managed to get in. There were three of them. One climbed in from the rear doors that opened after activating the valves, and another pulled me out of the driver seat, while the third guy came and hit me to the ground.”
“They hurt, beat and threaten my family,” the victim recalled. “They threatened my family, saying sentences like 'we know who you are and where you stay.”
“I have an eight-year-old baby, I was scared,” the driver said without revealing a possible motive for the attack.
According to one of the young men present during the incident, the crowd was angry at the driver, because a day earlier, on Monday, he did not stop to pick up the colored passengers.
The witness further claimed the bus driver deliberately attempted to run over one of them because he was allegedly bothered by their presence – a gesture the group saw as a provocation.
The man revealed that the bus came to the station and did not slow down even though one of the guys stood in the middle of the road.
“He saw him and accelerated, he was about to run him over but we pulled him away,” the witness explained to a local reporter. “Then the driver laughed. The young men ran over to him and the driver started to laugh.”
“He wanted to kill someone, he was the first to be a racist. We didn't start it. We don't have anything against anyone. We have a group made of Italians and Senegalese. We're always united. We have to stop this attitude, otherwise it will just increase. Everyone is a racist,” the witness added.
Tep and a local bus union have condemned the attack. Italian anti-immigrant parties – Brothers of Italy, Forza Italia, Lega Nord – have raised concern about the dangers stemming from the migrant community.
Mayor Federico Pizzarotti also condemned the attack on the driver, calling the assault “intolerable and unprecedented, unacceptable in a civil town like Parma.” He also promised to increase the number of surveillance systems on city buses.
[DW] Ankara has summoned Germany's ambassador after more than 10,000 Kurds rallied in Cologne. The rally was in support of Kurdish independence as well as the jailed leader of the banned PKK.
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... summoned the German ambassador to Ankara in response to a large rally held by Kurds in Cologne ...a lovely city in Germany. They invented perfume there... on Saturday.
More than 10,000 people rallied in the west German city in support of an independence referendum in Iraq.
Ankara summoned ambassador Martin Erdmann to voice concern over what it called a bully boy rally, the Ottoman Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement.
"We condemn the organization of a rally in the German city of Cologne by the extensions of the PKK terrorist organizations, and the allowing of terror propaganda. We have voiced our reaction in a strong manner to Germany's ambassador to Ankara, who was called to the ministry," it said.
On Saturday, Kurdish demonstrators called for freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, the tossed in the slammer Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit! leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), independence for Kurdistan, and democracy for the Middle East, local paper Kölner Stadt Anzeiger reported.
They had gathered at what was ostensibly a cultural festival organized by the Democratic Social Center for Kurds in Germany.
"We are protesting and celebrating at the same time - that is our culture," attendee Rifat Arslan told the paper, after traveling there from Frankfurt with his family. "We demand a recognized and free Kurdistan and want the release of our leader Ocalan," he was quoted as saying.
The PKK is classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, Germany and the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... Turkey accused Germany of not doing enough to stop PKK activities.
"The double standard approach Germany has been following with regards to the global fight against terrorism is worrying. We call on Germany to show a principled stance against all kinds of terror," the ministry said in the statement.
On September 3, about 25,000 Kurdish supporters demonstrated in Cologne against Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, where they also carried posters of Ocalan.

[AnNahar] Iraq moved 500 wives of Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group jihadists to a detention center in preparation to deport them after they were captured along with 800 children, a councilor said Monday.
The women and kiddies were detained in Iraq's second city djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... , capital of Nineveh province and IS' main stronghold in the country until Iraqi forces retook it in July.
"They are in a holding center in Tal Kayf under the control of Iraqi security forces, so their cases can be examined before they are eventually expelled from the country," the Nineveh province councilor told AFP.
The spouses and their children were moved Sunday from a camp run by international aid agencies 60 kilometers (40 miles) south of Mosul, said the official, who asked to remain anonymous.
A senior Iraqi security official said the 509 women and 813 children held 13 different nationalities from Europe, Asia and the Americas.
A government official said around 300 of them were Ottoman Turkish.
"They are foreigners who entered the country illegally," a minister told AFP.
"Legal measures must be taken against them because, when they were detained, they were in an area controlled by terrorists."
The Norwegian Refugee Council said they group were mostly from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... , Azerbaijan, Russia and Tajikistan.
The Nineveh councilor said Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had ordered their transfer to the detention center and "could be part of preparations for their departure to their countries of origin".
Some of the families were among a group transferred to the Iraqi authorities a week after they surrendered to Kurdish forces deployed in the north of the country.

So the TV stars all came out last night to give each other Emmy awards. They mocked Donald Trump, and high-fived one another over how good their jokes were.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump prepared to give his speech to the UN on Tuesday as leader of the free world.
As a lesser president once said, "At least I'll go down in history as a president."
While Stephen Colbert danced in a homophobic and transphobic routine, President Trump presided over the national government.
While Lily Tomlin called him a bigot, Trump was selecting judges for lifetime appointments.
He's cutting regulations.
He's burying the legacy of his unfit, inexperienced, and intellectually sloppy predecessor.
The Emmy crowd cracked itself up. They are the cool kids, they tell themselves.
Donald Trump is the president of the United States. He will be for another three to seven years.
They laugh because they don't want to cry.
Nothing they say or do can change that. Impeachment? For what? The emoluments clause?
President Trump's opponents have tried everything they could to stop him, and he just rolls along -- a steamroller trampling his enemies.
[DAWN] A child has died and at least 12 other people were maimed after a suspected suicide kaboom attempted to target a paramilitary vehicle near the Chaman border crossing in Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... , officials told DawnNews.
The injured had been taken to Civil Hospital Chaman for treatment, with three of them at death's door, District Police Officer Abdul Hayee Baloch and administration official Qaiser Khan Nasir said.
A 12-year-old boy injured in the blast departed this vale of tears at CHC, hospital sources said.
Nasir said a jacket wallah targeted the paramilitary patrol but their vehicle sped away and it was passers-by who were struck by the kaboom.
A senior administration official speaking to DawnNews added that body parts of a suspected suicide attacker were collected by law enforcement agencies during an initial sweep of the area following the blast.
Security has been tightened in and around the border in the aftermath of the kaboom. Besides Levies, Frontier Corps ...a provincial paramilitary force. Total manpower is about 80,000. They are tasked to help local law enforcement in the maintenance of law and order, and to carry out border patrol and a..the Antwerp-based Salafist organization that had campaigned to introduce Sharia law to Belgium before single-handedly making Belgium the highest per capita supplier of jihadis to Syria in Europe. There was a big trial in Antwerp in 2015, but most of those convicted were in absentia...nti-smuggling operations.... personnel have also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to probe the incident.
Majlis-e-Abrar, a breakaway faction of the Tehrik-e-Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... Pakistain, grabbed credit for the attack. The group has claimed several such attacks earlier.
In the recent past, bandidosbully boyz have carried out low-intensity bombings in Chaman, targeting cop shoppes and other national installations.
Chaman is considered a sensitive town in Balochistan as it shares a border with Afghanistan's volatile Kandahar province.

Politicians all want to be seen as being compassionate so they refuse to do what needs to be done. Look at it this way, if you don't mind sleeping in a tent on the sidewalk of a city street why should you work or try to improve your situation? There will always be suckers to give you spare change or a sandwich. But it isn't working for them or for the decent taxpaying citizens either. When tourists stop coming here because they fear hepatitis and other Third World diseases San Diego's economy will go right down the sewer.
But I believe we have vagrancy laws and laws against public urination. These people need to be arrested. They should be taken to a remote site out in the desert surrounded by concertina wire. Give them food and water out there but no drugs or alcohol. Let them sit there for as long as it takes until they get the point that they are no longer welcome to pitch their tents in San Diego.

The ACLU and Homeless Advocates™ have been suing to stop the open tent cities occupying (and shitting) on City sidewalks. Redevelopment in the Gaslamp and East Village have gentrified the old commercial warehouse districts with a culture clash. The problems are huge with substance abuse and mental illness prime causes along with bad luck and unfortunate events. Our strict stormwater regs went pfffft to allow bleach spraycleaning of sidewalks

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
