Home Front: Culture Wars
Conservative, Inc., Is Being Replaced
h/t Instapundit
...There used to be a thing called "conservatism," and I knew it pretty well since I was part of it for about a third of a century. But conservatism changed, becoming less about principles (though the wusscons never shut up about them) and more about money-grubbing navel gazing and intellectual onanism. Actual Republican voters, actual normal Americans? Well, they became kind of beside the point in the tumbler-klinking world of the John Boehnercons, and to the corporate-friendly compassioncons who put the interests of everyone else (including the act of lovers) ahead of the GOP voters who voted the establishment in.

Conservativism forgot about the real world conservatives we expected to line up behind us. While we were talking about free trade, we were ignoring that GOP voter who fought in Fallujah, came home, got a job building air conditioners, raised a family, and then one day watched the video of the oh-so-sorry CEO ‐ who looked remarkably like Mitt Romney, because all these guys look remarkably like Mitt Romney ‐ sadly informing his beloved employees that their jobs were getting shipped to Oaxaca. And our response to the 58-year old Republican voter who asked us how he was going to keep paying for his mortgage and his kid in college? Pretty much, "Well, that’s how free enterprise works. Read some Milton Freidman and go learn coding."

...How about the guy who wanted to be a roofer in Fontana but he couldn’t because the contractors were only hiring illegals? What was our answer to him? "Oh well, the big corporate donors need their serfs, and if some pack of tatted-up MS-13 dreamers gang-rapes your daughter that’s just a price we’re willing to pay!"

They try to crush our religion and Conservative, Inc., cowers because Apple’s CEO might say mean things. "Just bake the cake," they say ‐ it’s not worth the fight! They demand our tax money to kill babies and Conservative, Inc., passes the spending bills ‐ "Gosh, we can’t risk the WaPo saying we’re mean!" They diss our National Anthem, we react, and Conservative, Inc., wags its soft, spindly fingers ‐ "So, so very unpresidential! My word!"

Conservatism has become a racket, and everything happening now is a result of its members hoping to wait out Trump and the demand for change he represents. Maybe if they do nothing, but say all the right things, we normals will get tired and go back to our jobs and keep providing those votes and renting those cruise cabins. But that’s not happening. We aren’t going away; business as usual is over. We aren’t just giving up, tossing away our country, and submitting to the ruling caste. We were nice with the Tea Party. Trump’s not as nice. What’s coming after is going to be much, much less nice.

What’s coming after is militant normalacy, the not-so-polite demand that the lackwits and failures who style themselves as our betters stop dumping on us normal Americans who work hard and play by the rules (Gosh that sounds familiar, like it used to be a winning electoral recipe, if only I could remember where I heard it before).

Who are the normals? The Americans who built this country, and defended it. When you eat, it’s because a normal grew the food and another normal trucked it to you. When you aren’t murdered in the street or don’t speak German, it’s because a normal with a gun made those things not happen. We normals don’t want to rule over others. We don’t obsess about how you live your life, but also we don’t want to be compelled to signal our approval or pick up the tab. We are every color and creed ‐ though when someone who is incidentally a member of some other group aligns with normals, he/she/xe loses that identity. The left drums normals who are black out of its definition of "black," just as normal women get drummed out of womanhood and normal gays get drummed out gayhood. In a way, the left is making E pluribus unum a reality again ‐ to choose to be normal is to choose to reject silly identity group identification and unite. Instead of saying "normal Americans," you can just say "Americans."

...That’s why the shameful abdication of Conservative, Inc., in the cultural fight is both important and irrelevant. It demonstrates that the first loyalty of many folks in the conservaracket is to the ruling caste to which they belong, and it also demonstrates that these wimps’ absence from the battle means nothing.

We’ll fight this fight ourselves, thanks.

...we’re not giving up, and we’re not going to sit back and just take it. Militant normalcy is the result of normal people roused to anger and refusing to be pushed around anymore. We prefer a free society based on personal liberty and mutual respect. But if you leftists veto that option, that leaves us either a society where you rule and oppress us, or one where we hold the power. So let me break this down, both for the left and for their fussy Fredocon enablers: You don’t get to win.

#2  I hate articles like this.

There is a very good reason why most elected Republicans call themselves "conservative." They do it to get elected. Once elected, they promptly swing left, way left in some cases. This phenomenon is not a failure of conservative principles. Those principles remain sound. Rather, it is a failure of enforcement at the ballot box, especially in primary elections.

NASCAR owners say they wouldn't tolerate national anthem protests at races
[The Hill] Several NASCAR team owners said Sunday they would not condone racers protesting during the national anthem, amid protests by sports players at football and baseball games.

There were no protests reported during "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in New Hampshire, according to The Associated Press.

Former NASCAR champion Richard Petty told the AP that any member of his team would be fired if they chose to protest the national anthem. Petty now owns Richard Petty Motorsports.

"Anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. Period. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States," Petty said in comments reported by the AP.

Richard Childress, a former drive who owns Richard Childress Racing, said any protests from his team members would "get you a ride on a Greyhound bus."

"Anybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America," Childress reportedly said.

The comments from the NASCAR owners come as NFL players took part in protests at games across the country after Trump slammed players who take a knee, rather than stand, during the national anthem.

A Hospital Crisis Is Killing Rural Communities. This State Is ‘Ground Zero.'
[Huffpoo] GLENWOOD, Ga. ― If you want to watch a rural community die, kill its hospital.

After the Lower Oconee Community Hospital shut down in June 2014, other mainstays of the community followed. The bank and the pharmacy in the small town of Glenwood shuttered. Then the only grocery store in all of Wheeler County closed in the middle of August this year.

On Glenwood’s main street, building after building is now for sale, closing, falling apart or infested with weeds growing through the foundation’s cracks.

Opportunity has been dying in Wheeler County for the last 20 years. Agriculture was once the primary employer, but the Wheeler Correctional Facility, a privately run prison, is now the biggest source of jobs. With 39 percent of the central Georgia county’s population living in poverty, there aren’t enough patients with good insurance to keep a hospital from losing money.

The hospital’s closure eliminated the county’s biggest health care provider and dispatched yet another major employer. Glenwood’s mayor of 34 years, G.M. Joiner, doubts that the town will ever recover.

"It’s been devastating," the 72-year-old mayor said, leaning on one of the counters in Glenwood’s one-room city hall. "I tell folks that move here, ’This is a beautiful place to live, but you better have brought money, because you can’t make any here.’"

#1  But it's not just the hospitals, it's all businesses and services.

I have always loved trains. While I was working in D.C. years ago, I drove out to Manassas, VA and took the AMTRAC to Atlanta. It was a very slow train the stopped often, but the interesting thing about the trip was that it took you through the underside of dozens of small towns with scores of closed down businesses and factories. The trip's final destination was the crowded circa 1918 train station in Atlanta, which was, perhaps by design, miles from any MARTA stop.

Every politician in Washington should be required to make this trip and view what the gov't has permitted Chinese imports to do to this country.

The 'urbanization of America' into large, gov't dependent voting blocks is nearly complete. Small town doctors and clinics are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. They have been replaced by huge medical complexes more suited to the implementation of gov't medicine, exploitation by big pharma and the insurance companies.
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/25/2017 4:59 Comments || Top||

#2  I won't go so far as to say that "Chinese imports" are the problem in rural America. Chinese imports did not ruin Detroit. Detroit ruined Detroit (auto industry metaphor). At all levels of government, we are our worst enemy.
Posted by: Clem || 09/25/2017 7:54 Comments || Top||

#3  Whilst AMTRAC line from Manassass to Atlanta does not go through Detroit, still a good point clem. The term 'foreign import trade imbalance' should have been used.

#6  Since 2010, 82 rural hospitals have closed nationwide. As many as 700 more are at risk of closing within the next 10 years, according to Alan Morgan, the CEO of the National Rural Health Association, a nonprofit professional organization that lobbies on rural health issues.

#7  Government always ignores small business(look what O did to small communities alone stopping coal production). Build a bypass and the mom and pops die off. Happens every time. The only choice for them is to relocate nearer the traffic flow. Most don't have the money to invest in such an enterprise. No assistance. No buyout. Before Rt95, before 495, before 695, before Rt.70 or Rt 68 and then 270. I remember when 270 was built mechanics road tested cars because there was no traffic. Dulles was a white elephant. So all the old roads were less traveled. Then the small business died off. Now with influx of so many things begin to renew. When they do away with personnel vehicle transportation the Government doesn't care who is displaced. Yes, Uber is just the beginning. The freedom to come and go as you please will soon be ending.

Spengler: Lesson from the German elections
[PJMedia] The implosion of Germany's Social Democratic Party in today's national elections is the big news from Berlin. With just 20.5% of the vote, a party that governed Germany intermittently since the Second World War has dropped off the political radar. SPD leader Martin Schulz distinguished himself from Chancellor Angela Merkel with one idea, namely fairer income distribution, and the voters shunned him. Merkel will take a fourth term as Federal Chancellor, almost certainly in a coalition with the small free-enterprise party, the Free Democrats, and the Green Party--a so-called "Jamaica Coalition" after the colors of the island's flag (Black for the Christian Democrats, Yellow for Free Democrats, and Green).

...All the respectable parties banded together to defend Merkel's "we-can-do-it" open door policy to Middle Eastern migrants, a million and a half of whom turned up on Germany's doorstep during the past year and a half. The whole exercise was a scam and a goof, undertaken as an exercise in collective do-gooding in a country that still hates itself for its crimes duringi the Hitler period. Tuvia Tenenbom exposed the fecklessness of it all in a recent book that I reviewed in this space Sept. 10. Germans who objected to the influx and its attendant social pathologies voted for the AfD to register a protest, knowing that the AfD had no chance to exercise power. The German Establishment will take note.

#7  If AfD really are Nazis it's sad that they are the only ones interested in self preservation. But I'm afraid the word nazi has lost as much of its original meaning in Germany as it has in this country. I myself was called a nazi during the 2016 election campaign and I know damn well I wouldn't have gone along with Hitler's madness. Let's put it this way, I've always gotten along quite well with Jews. I think it's because they're civilized. I think civilization, free enterprise and basic civil rights are the key concepts that I expect people to embrace. If they can't do that I don't want to gas them, I just don't want them in my country. I don't think that makes me a racist or a nazi.

The "pro Israel attitude" of the AfD is fake. Spengler manages to see through this. Many others don't.

That doesn't mean that all supporters are nazis.

#12  Antisemitism in Germany is only tolerable when the left does it ("We're just against Israeli politics").

A right wing party with antisemitic tendencies is dead on arrival as the media will totally shun it.

Funny enough, the AfD started as an ant-Euro but also anti-Wallstreet party (and you could hear "Wallstreet Jews", conspiracy theories and all that). Then the "hard" right wing took over, but they were smart enough to direct aggression elsewhere.

Dereliction of Duty – The Feather Merchants, Duds and Perfumed Princes who Sold out the US Military to Political Correctness
[Defense Watch] Dereliction of duty is a specific offense under United States Code Title 10, Section 892, Article 92 and applies to all branches of the US military. A service member who is derelict has willfully refused to perform his duties (or follow a given order) or has incapacitated himself in such a way that he cannot perform his duties. Article 92 also applies to service members whose acts or omissions rise to the level of criminally negligent behavior.

The US military is in Deep Kimchi. The US military is a non-military, military in 2017.

Since late 1991, the military has been attacked by leftists and militant feminists who were determined to transform the last bastion of masculinity in American society. With the help of traitorous enablers in the military and civilian government officials, their efforts have been more successful than their wildest dreams.

A Maoist cultural revolution has slowly engulfed the military, with the results that today’s US armed forces are totally feminized, led by perfumed princes, focused on things that have nothing to do with war fighting and in many regards, ill-prepared for combat on the high seas, on land and in the air.

The US military in 2017 is being largely run by senior leaders who believe the military is no different than a corporation, except the military has cool uniforms and high explosives. Hollywood values are now the norm and the spirit of the bayonet is no longer, kill, kill, kill; but, diversity.

Sure, we have cool technology, predator drones and nukes. Yes, the SEALs, when they’re not selling juicers or video games, are still eating glass and urinating napalm. Yes, there are still motivated troopers, and good NCO’s; but as a composite, competent, effective and lethal instrument of death to our enemies, the military is a shadow of its former greatness during the Cold War and in Desert Storm. This is not the military that Tom Clancy idolized and wrote about. It’s the military Claudia Kennedy and Patricia Schroeder wanted...and got.

#4  During the 1990’s Lieutenant General Claudia Kennedy, was a vocal advocate for women to serve in combat positions in the army, although she herself had never been near any shot and shell. Kennedy’s most famous quote and one which still reverberates through the tattered army today was ‘this is not your father’s army.’

I remember a retirement ceremony at Forces Command (FORSCOM) Fort McPherson, GA. where Kennedy, assigned to the FORSCOM G2 at the time, had to ask an enlisted man to help her assemble her Load Bearing Equipment (LBE) for the ceremony. As a major, she had evidently never been required to learn or practice these basic skills.

Kennedy punched her 'troop leading' ticket at FORSCOM and went on to become a general officer with eventual assignment in D.C. There she was made famous by her 'girly' coffee and mentoring sessions, along with the forced early retirement of a totally clueless male major general IG (Inspector General) colleague. The IG had made the mistake of giving her a congratulatory peck on the cheek in a pentagon meeting. The phrase 'WTF could he have been thinking' echoed through the army intelligence community at the time.

Her book, like her army career, was a sad joke.

Arabia
Houthis hold 21 journalists in coastal cities
Aden- Journalists in Yemen are the subject to ongoing oppression and tragic setback as insurgency militias exercise brutal authority inhibiting the press.

Iran-allied Houthi militias along with armed loyalists backing ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh have employed coercive control against the Sana’a-based government news agency and independent partisan outlets since the start of the coup.

Meanwhile, voices are raised demanding the release of journalists detained by coup militias, the number of captives rose to 21 journalists last week.

Houthi militias arrested a number of pro-coup journalists, most of which advocating Saleh loyalists forces.

Despite the coup’s so-called Supreme Political Council President Saleh al-Samad ordering the release of Yahya Abdel-Raqib al-Jubeihi who is both journalist and university professor that was sentenced by the Houthi court to death for his anti-coup views, he remains in lock up.

Samad also issued directives to free remaining detained journalists, but none of the orders were followed with action.

Al-Maqri, a journalist imprisoned by the extremist al-Qaeda off-shoot AQAP, is still held in captivity. He was kidnapped by the terror group in Hadramout before pro-government forces, backed by the Saudi-led Arab coalition, liberated the city of Mukalla and other coastal cities in April 2016.

According to Nabil al-Asidi, a member of the Yemeni Syndicate of Journalists, “most detainees in the hands of militias are subjected to torture, psychological trauma, and are suffering from many diseases.”

“Militias refuse to treat them or offer them medical assistance,” Asidi told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“Veteran journalist Yahya al-Jubeihi, sentenced to death, suffers from severe asthma and deteriorating health conditions.”

“Abdel Rahim Mohsen, kidnapped by the militia while receiving treatment in a hospital in Rahda city and has fallen into coma repeatedly as a result of continued torture and violent interrogation,” Asidi cited information received by the syndicate.

“As for the statement on the coup granting a general amnesty for all journalists and ordering their release, including the journalist al-Jubeihi, the syndicate stresses that it is their right to be free, and not a privilege to be granted by coup militias,” he said.

“The kidnapping and arrest by the militias constitute a crime against the law and those militias are violating perpetrators, yet we are still waiting for the truth behind their promises to release journalists and give them the freedom they deserve,” he added.

The Egyptian maestro and his Palestinian marionettes
[Ynet] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", may have given up the Gazoo administrative committee, but it will keep running the strip. The announcement, which was used as bait to bring the PA delegation to Cairo, will allow Abbas to lift the sanctions and renew the economic aid to Gazoo. This is an Israeli interest too.
To be sure, if the PA lifts sanctions, it will go back to paying Gaza's debts to Israeli suppliers. Or rather, as I understand it Israel will take out from the taxes it collects on the PA's behalf -- sales taxes on Palestinian goods sold in Israel, for instance -- balances due for electricity and fuel Israel is currently supplying Gaza as a humanitarian gesture without recompense.
The most fascinating part of Hamas’ "strategic turnabout" is the marionette theater: The elegant ease with which the director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate, General Khaled Fawzy, is leading the Paleostinian wooden puppets. With his right hand, he’s entertaining himself with Hamas’ political bureau, and with his left hand, he’s pulling the strings of the Paleostinian Authority delegation.

The general is not alone. The entire department in the Egyptian General Intelligence Directorate dealing with the mater is fussing over the Paleostinian marionettes, isolating them from other centers of power in the Arab world, making sure they don’t disrupt Maestro Fawzy’s efforts to run the marionette theater as he sees fit.

Puntland authorities displayed dozens of anti-aircraft guns, machine guns, AK-47 rifles and dozens of boxes of ammunition seized from the boat after it was stopped in coastal waters off the Horn of Africa region.

The journey of the small vessel, known as Al Faruq, was tracked from Yemen by European maritime forces patrolling sea lanes off Somalia, Abdirahman Mohamud Hassan, the director general of Puntland maritime police force, told Rooters.

He said they had seized other boatloads of arms destined for Islamic State

Al Shabaab Executes Three Kenyan Fighters For Spying
[RADIOSHABELLE] Foreign fighters serving in the Al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
militia are living in fear after three Kenyans were early this month publicly beheaded after being accused of spying.

The executions of the three on 10 September in Jillib have caused anxiety and fear among imported muscle within Al-Shabaab ranks. This brings to seven the number of Kenyan fighters executed in Somalia on suspicion of spying.

Kenyan intelligence reports reveal that Al-Shabaab leadership ordered public beheading of the three Kenyans identified as Abdullah Talal Musa, Jared Mukayo Omambia and Hashim Othman Selali for spying on the group.

The long-running mistrust of imported muscle by the local in Somalia is reported to have led to emergence of factions within the terror organization whose fortunes have continued to dwindle.

The hard boy group is battling disintegration due to its different factions which include those that still pledge allegiance to Al Qaeda, the team seeking support from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (IS) and the group that seeks to have an independent Al-Shabaab that only comprises indigenous Somalis.

"The existence of these factions is causing friction and animosity among members with Kenyan and imported muscle bearing the brunt of it all," read the Intelligence report.

Fear of displacement by the new local and imported muscle is among the reasons some forces of Evil are fighting against the change.

In addition to displacement, those supporting indigenous fighters claim that the terror group appears to have lost its vision now that they are involved in killing innocent Somalis, raping women and abusing drugs and alcohol," the report further states.

Supporters of one faction linked to the Islamic State led by Ahmed Gurey (head of imported muscle who is an American with a bounty of Sh5 million on his head) are angling towards ISIS as a source of funding.

Another faction of imported muscle is led by a Kenyan, Amir Salman, who is often in conflict with the Al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Diriye over the killing of Kenyan fighters.

The report further says some forces of Evil suspect that he too is an agent of the Kenyan Government.

Southeast Asia
‘We are not terrorists’ -- an exclusive interview with an ARSA commander
[Dhaka Tribune] The man sat slumped in a chair inside the thatched hut, the shadows lengthening over his face in the gathering dusk. Tall and gaunt, he was in his mid-twenties but sounded younger. Wearing a traditional blue-and-white check lungi and a cotton shirt, he did not really look like a rebel.

His youthful voice hardened, however, as he reeled off the names of the villages which had been burnt down by the Myanmar army in his home state of Rakhine since August 25, when his organization attacked border posts and an army base, an operation in which he took part with "200 men from our area."

"We hit their soldiers, they hit our women and kiddies," he said. "The Burmese military are cowards."

An intermediary introduced him as Abdus Shakoor, a commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army or ARSA in the Maungdaw district in northern Rakhine. We met him near a barbed wire fence separating Bangladesh and Myanmar after a long trek through swaying rice fields and rolling hills, a deceptively pristine setting for a desperate tale of loss, recklessness and forlorn hope.

After a succession of guides took turns to lead us through a maze of dirt tracks, we came upon a cluster of huts. Children played in a clearing nearby. Chickens scrabbled in the dirt. There were no guns in sight. It was oddly appropriate for the insurgency that Shakoor was describing ‐ almost entirely rural, a peasant war fought in the Rakhine countryside.

The meeting with the ARSA commander was set up after a week of enquiries, dead-ends, and several false starts. ARSA fighters are under severe pressure from the Myanmar army, which has reacted to the August 25 attacks with a scorched-earth campaign that the UN and international human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
groups have denounced as ethnic cleansing.

Yangon has denied that the security forces have targeted civilians, claiming that the army is trying to hunt down terrorists.

It is an accusation to which Shakoor is extremely sensitive. "We are not terrorists," he said, using the English word, which he pronounced as ’tetarist.’ "We stood up for our haqq, our rights. There’s nothing else that we want, nothing!"

The Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), a group previously known as Harakah al-Yaqin, or "Faith Movement," attacked border guard posts, cop shoppes, and army bases on August 25, killing at least 10 coppers and an army soldier.

Shakoor described why and how his group planned and carried out the attack.

"Our zimmadars or elders said we must fight back because the Myanmar government was starving us, killing us slowly. They slaughter our people for no reason, they dishonour our women. They want to uproot us from the land that was handed down from our forefathers.

"To save our people, to save our mothers and sisters, to take back our rights, we took up sticks, and axes and knives and rose up against the oppressors."

More on the proposed Russian budget cuts for Donetsk and Lugansk
A much more in depth look at the proposed budget cuts for Lugansk and Donetsk which I revealed a week ago. Placed in Opinion because of the source, but a lot of good information, including confirmation in my story that the Russian government has been paying pensions in Donetsk.

In case you are wondering why the accounting matters, consider this to be Russian president Vladimir Putin's Soviet style signal he is ready to toss Donetsk and Lugansk overboard in exchange for Crimea.

Fortunately for us, we have a president who plays the Long Game as well.

[EuromaidanPress] The Russian government intends to stop the “humanitarian assistance to certain territories” in favor of financing projects in Crimea and Kaliningrad, with “certain territories” meaning the “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics” in Ukraine’s Donbas, the Russian outlet RBK reported on 15 September citing its sources close to the Kremlin.

RBK wrote that according to a verified protocol of a meeting held with Russia’s Deputy Prime minister Dmitri Kozak on 1 September, Russia’s Finance Ministry was instructed to exclude “to exclude humanitarian assistance to certain territories in 2019–2020 from the draft federal budget for 2018,” “certain territories” being a codename for the “Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics,” (“LNR” and “DNR”) two proxy statelets set up with Russian assistance in eastern Ukraine in 2014.

According to the protocol, at the beginning of August on a trip to occupied Crimea, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev instructed to provide funding for the “unconditional implementation” of measures for the social-economic development and ensuring transport and information security of Crimea and Kaliningrad, a Russian city exclave sandwiched between Lithuania and Poland. Particularly, an additional RUB 85 bn ($1.5 mn) is needed for Crimea during 2018-2020 (of which $1 mn should be provided over 2019-2020) to build healthcare and educational facilities, road and waterline repairs etc.

In all, the Russian government needs to find RUB 165 bn ($2.87 mn) for financing its projects in Crimea and Kaliningrad over three years.

Crimea “is ours” and Donbas is not
According to political analyst Aleksei Makarkin, funds are to be distributed in the favor of those regions that Russia does not intend to give away, and Russia is not sure of the future status of the Donbas “republics,” RBK wrote. Director of the Progressive Policy Foundation Oleg Bondarenko told RBK that Crimea needs colossal assistance from Russia and the development of Crimea is a matter of reputation for the Kremlin; like Kaliningrad, the Russian authorities intend to make it a “showcase” for the West. “There are territories of Russia that need active development, and self-proclaimed republics are not the territory of Russia,” argued Bondarenko. However, he was not aware of the reduction in spending on the “LNR” and “DNR.”

The supposed exclusion of “humanitarian assistance” for Donbas from the budget is only one possible source of securing funding for Crimea and Kaliningrad; others include a possible increase in excise taxes on gasoline, reducing railway subsidies and other measures. Therefore, it’s not possible to estimate how much the Kremlin spends now on Donbas from this document. Apart from that, RBK’s sources in the Russian Parliament and Government stress that even if the authorities decide to stop the “humanitarian assistance” to Donbas, that doesn’t mean Russia will stop providing funds to the proxy states. Funding for the “LNR” and “DNR” is totally classified and is described by secret orders and budget lines and “humanitarian assistance” is likely to be one of many channels of funding the “republics.”

Another source of RBK familiar with the document said that at the start of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Russian government approved targeted subsidies to restore the damaged infrastructure of Donbas (energy, roads, and railways) and construct buildings in a secret government decree, calling them “humanitarian assistance to certain territories of Ukraine.” According to the source, these “humanitarian subsidies” passed through a reserve fund of the government formed annually to finance activities on the decision of the government. The source assumes, but cannot be sure, that it is these subsidies that will be canceled.

Responding to RBK’s article, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov responded that there will be a “certain redistrubution” of funds, but the Kremlin still intended to “take care” of the inhabitants of Donbas.
Read the rest at the link, s'il vous plait, especially the part in which the Russian "Lend-Lease" program of heavy equipment (T-72Bs and not the crap T-72Ms they sell to Arab mobocracies) may come to a halt before too long.

India-Pakistan
'India mother of terrorism in South Asia,' Maleeha Lodhi tells UN
[DAWN] Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Maleeha Lodhi said that India is the mother of terrorism in South Asia, reported the state-run radio service on Sunday.

In her response to the allegations of terrorism levelled against Pakistain by India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in her address at the UN General Assembly session in New York, Lodhi said India is using terrorism as a state policy.

Exercising the right of reply to an earlier speech, Lodhi accused Swaraj of "indulging in an orgy of slander against Pakistain."

On Saturday, Sushma Swaraj in her address accused Islamabad of terrorism. In her diatribe, she had said, "Pakistain is recognised only as the pre-eminent export factory for terror."

"Her comments towards my country betray the hostility that the Indian leadership has towards Pakistain ‐the hostility we have endured for 70 years," Ambassador Lodhi told the 72nd UNGA.

"Indian spy Kulbhushan Yadav has confessed of committing terrorism in Pakistain," Lodhi said.

"Repeating falsehoods year after year does not and cannot conceal or alter the truth. But in her vitriol she deliberately ignored the core issue of Jammu and Kashmire."

Lodhi noted Jammu and Kashmire was not a part of India and was recognised by the United Nations and the international community as ’disputed" territory’. "I invite all of you, and the Indian FM, to look at the UN maps," she said.

The Pak diplomat said that India's military occupation of the State was illegal as the UN Security Council had, in over a dozen resolutions, decided that the dispute must be resolved by enabling the people of Jammu and Kashmire to determine their own destiny through a UN-supervised plebiscite.

India has been levelling allegations against Pakistain to divert international attention from the brutalities of Indian forces in held Kashmire, she said. The crimes against humanity in held Kashmire should be investigated.

She also urged the international community to stop India from ceasefire violations on the Line of Control. Pakistain wants a resolution of all outstanding issues through talks, she said, adding that India will have to give up the policy of terrorism.

Lodhi recalled that India's brutal occupation of Kashmire has killed over 100,000 innocent Kashmiris. Although India had launched a campaign of brutality inside Kashmire ‐ including the shooting and blinding of innocent Kashmiri children with pellet guns ‐ and yet had failed to subdue these Kashmiri children, women and youth who came out on the streets almost daily to demand that India get out of occupied Kashmire.

Anti-AfD protests erupt in Berlin
[Al Jazeera] Hundreds of protesters have taken to the streets in central Berlin after exit polls showed that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party had become Germany's third-largest political force.

Shouting slogans such as "All Berlin hates the AfD!" and ''Nazi pigs!", the demonstrators gathered outside a building in Germany's capital where the anti-immigrant party's leaders were celebrating winning an estimated 13.1 percent of the votes in Sunday's federal poll.

Several protesters threw bottles as police kept them away from the building.

The AfD, which will be entering parliament for the first time, was founded just four years ago as an anti-euro force. Its manifesto included a pledge to ban all mosques and criminalise people wearing the veil.

The election result produced shockwaves, both internationally and domestically. Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said Nazis are back in the German parliament.

"Seventy years after the end of the war, neo-Nazis are again sitting in the Bundestag," Asselborn told DPA news agency, referring to Germany's lower house of parliament.

in the same province, leaving several bandidos gunnies dead, including a local leader of the Taliban.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the foreign forces jets and unmanned aerial vehicles targeted the ISIS hideouts in Achin district, leaving at least seven ISIS bandidos gunnies dead.

The statement further added that the Arclight airstrikes were carried out in Bandar, Deewana Baba, Wach Kot, and Nargos areas.

US air strikes kill 17 ISIL fighters in Libya
[Al Jazeera] Six US air strikes on an ISIS desert camp in Libya killed 17 fighters and destroyed three vehicles, the first American attack in Libya since President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
took office in January.

US Africa Command said in a statement on Sunday that strikes on Friday targeted a camp 240km southeast of Sirte, a city that was once the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant stronghold in Libya.

The camp was used to move fighters in and out of Libya, plot attacks and store weapons, the statement said.

"ISIS and al-Qaeda have taken advantage of ungoverned spaces in Libya to establish sanctuaries for plotting, inspiring and directing terror attacks," it said, using another acronym for ISIS.

The strikes were carried out in coordination with Libya's Government of National Accord, it added.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said the air raids were carried out by armed drones.

The last-known US strike in Libya was on January 19, a day before Trump's inauguration, when more than 80 ISIS fighters, some believed to be plotting attacks in Europe, died in US air strikes on camps outside Sirte.

That attack was led by two B-2 bombers, which dropped about 100 precision-guided munitions on the camps.

Iraqi Warbirds continue airstrikes in Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi fighter jets carried out on Sunday intensified airstrikes targeting Islamic State’s headquarters in south of Kirkuk, a source said.

Speaking to AlSumaria News on Sunday, the source said, “Iraqi jets shelled in the evening pivotal IS locations in al-Rashad and the vicinity of Taza region, south of Kirkuk.”

The source, who preferred anonymity, added that locations included the group’s headquarters.

“The air raids were based on coordination between Iraqi intelligence services which provided data about those locations,” the source added. “One of those targeted headquarters is the so-called Kirkuk State, which was completely-destroyed.”

Earlier on the day, the Joint Operations Command announced completing the first phase of operations to recapture Hawija, the group’s holdout in southwestern Kirkuk.

Launched last week, the operation managed to take over al-Zab river region, the northern part of Makhoul mountains and several villages west of Tigris River.

On Thursday, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, spokesman of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command said the number of Islamic State members in Hawija falls between 800 and 1500. On the same day, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and the Joint Operations Command announced launch of first phase of operations to liberate Hawija and western Shirqat.

Hawija and other neighboring regions, west of Kirkuk, have been held by IS since mid-2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria.

Russian general dies in artillery attack in Deir Ezzor
MOSCOW: A Russian general was killed while battling Daesh group militants near the eastern Syrian city of Deir Ezzor, Moscow’s defense ministry said Sunday.

“Division general Valeri Assapov was killed when a shell exploded during shelling by IS fighters,” the ministry was quoted as saying by local media, adding that the officer was serving as an adviser to Syrian government troops.

The ministry said Assapov would be posthumously decorated for his service.

Deir Ezzor province, on Syria’s eastern border with Iraq, is rich with oil and gas fields that served as a key revenue stream for Daesh at the peak of its power.

Russia intervened in support of the Damascus government in September 2015 and has been assisting regime forces in an assault on Deir Ezzor from the west.

Catholic theologians accuse pope of spreading heresy
[Chicago Tribune] Several dozen tradition-minded Roman Catholic theologians, priests and academics have formally accused Pope Francis of spreading heresy with his 2016 opening to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics.

In a 25-page letter delivered to Francis last month and provided Saturday to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, the 62 signatories issued a "filial correction" to the pope ‐ a measure they said hadn't been employed since the 14th century.

The letter accused Francis of propagating seven heretical positions concerning marriage, moral life and the sacraments with his 2016 document "The Joy of Love" and subsequent "acts, words and omissions."

The initiative follows another formal act by four tradition-minded cardinals who wrote Francis last year asking him to clarify a series of questions, or "dubbia," they had about his 2016 text.

Francis hasn't responded to either initiative. The Vatican front man didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment late Saturday.

None of the signatories of the new letter is a cardinal, and the highest-ranking churchman listed is actually someone whose organization has no legal standing in the Catholic Church: Bishop Bernard Fellay, superior of the breakaway Society of St. Pius X. Several other signatories are well-known admirers of the old Latin Mass which Fellay's followers celebrate.

But organizers said the initiative was nevertheless significant and a sign of the concern among a certain contingent of academics and pastors over Francis' positions, which they said posed a danger to the faithful.

Iran launches war games near Iraqi Kurdistan border
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iranian forces have launched war games in an area near the border with Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Iran’s state media reported on Sunday, a day before a Kurdish independence referendum in the region.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
also said on Sunday its aircraft launched Arclight airstrikes against Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) targets in northern Iraq’s Gara region on Saturday after spotting bandidos bully boyz preparing to attack Ottoman Turkish military outposts on the border.

Iraq’s powerful neighbors, Iran and Turkey, strongly oppose the Kurdish vote as they fear could fuel separatism among their own Kurds. Iran also supports Shiite groups who have been ruling or holding key security and government positions in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion which toppled Saddam Hussein.

...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
, the United States and Britannia to delay the referendum who fear it could further destabilize the region.

Iranian State broadcaster IRIB said military drills, part of annual events held in Iran to mark the beginning of the 1980-1988 war with Iraq, are centered in the Oshnavieh border region. The war games will include artillery, armored and airborne units, it said.

Clashes with Iranian Kurdish bully boy groups based in Iraq are fairly common in the border area.

Sudan student condemned to hang for killing of police officer
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A court in Sudan on Sunday sentenced a university student to death after convicting him of killing a policeman during protests in the capital last year, a defence lawyer said.

Asim Omer, who was studying at Khartoum University, was arrested in December 2016 and charged with killing the policeman after hundreds of students clashed with security forces at the campus on the banks of the Blue Nile in April of that year.

Last month, the court found Omer guilty, and on Sunday sentenced him to be hanged.

“The judge sentenced Asim Omer to be hanged to death after finding him guilty of killing a policeman,” defence lawyer Mohamed Arabi told AFP, adding that he would appeal.

After sentencing, during which AFP was unable to gain access to the courtroom, police fired tear gas to disperse a protest by students gathered outside the court.

The protests relocated to areas in and around Khartoum University, with those demonstrations also dispersed by the same means.

The opposition Popular Congress Party, of which Omer is a member, rejected the court’s ruling.

“The sentencing of Asim Omer is illegal because the judge didn’t have full evidence to convict him,” the party said in a statement.

“We will continue our fight in the higher court and all alternatives are open to us to save his life.”

Students at Khartoum University demonstrated several times last year against an alleged plan to sell off buildings belonging to the institution.

A blurb issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the law enforcement agencies were carrying out a search operation in Gara Madda area when the alleged encounter took place.

The officials signalled three people, riding a bike, to stop but they reportedly resorted to firing on the security personnel, ensuing an encounter, claimed ISPR.

All the three suspects were killed by the security officials during the alleged encounter whereas the security personnel remained unhurt.

The dear departed were later identified as Iqbal, Waheed, and Majid, said ISPR, adding that Iqbal was reportedly carrying a head money of Rs1 million.

Indian spiritual guru arrested for assaulting woman
[DAWN] Police on Saturday tossed in the calaboose

a popular Indian spiritual guru, the second in the past month, for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman in western India.

Police officer Jaisingh Nathawat said the woman, whose parents have been followers of 70-year-old Kaushlendra Prapannacharya Falahari Maharaja, complained that the guru assaulted her on Aug 7 at his headquarters in Alwar, a town in Rajashtan state.

She said that the spiritual guru warned her against telling anyone about the assault, but that she decided to break her silence after another self-proclaimed guru, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was tried and sentenced to 20 years in prison last month for raping two followers in northern Haryana state.

A court sent Falahari Maharaja to a prison for 15 days while the police complete their investigation into the case. The woman was allegedly raped when she went to hand the spiritual guru 3,000 rupees ($45) that she had earned for an internship with an attorney in New Delhi on his recommendation.

Iran touts Russian made S-300 SAM system
My best guess is that these are the same systems the Russian replaced in the Vladisvostok region a few months ago with their latest S-400 SAM system
TEHRAN: Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard has displayed the country’s sophisticated Russian-made S-300 air defense system in central Tehran.
This is the first time that the S-300 air defense system has been displayed in public.

The public show in Tehran’s Baharestan square near the Parliament building square exhibited different missile systems, including ballistic missiles, solid-fuel surface-to-surface Sejjil missiles and the liquid-fuel Ghadr.

The IRGC prepared the show for the annual Defense Week, marking the 37th anniversary of the 1980s Iran-Iraq war.

US President Donald Trump signed in August a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran’s controversial ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

9 ISIS Bad Guys smoked in attack in Salahuddin
Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops have killed Islamic State militants while repelling an attack in Salahuddin province, a commander said.

“Nine militants, including a leader, attempted attacking security troops deployed near al-Zarka bridge, west of Tuz Khurmatu. However, troops managed to repulse the attack and kill them in an airstrike,” Maj. Gen. Mazhar al-Azzawi, commander of Dijla Operations, told Alghad Press on Sunday.

“Troops deployed between Salahuddin and Diyala are taking measures to control the situation,” he added.

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

On Saturday, Federal Police announced liberation of eastern Shirqat, the group’s holdout in north of Salahuddin.

225 militants had been killed since the launch of operations in Shirqat, Jawdat previously announced. The group reportedly started collective executions of members who attempted to flee battles in Salahuddin to Hawija, the group’s stronghold in neighboring Kirkuk where parallel security operations are running to retake militants-held regions.

The Iraqi army said in September its forces recaptured the western coast of Shirqat, located south of Mosul, on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias.

Chinese robotics first to perform oral surgery
[SCMP] A robot dentist has carried out the first successful autonomous implant surgery by fitting two new teeth into a woman’s mouth, mainland media has reported.

Although there were human medical staff present during the operation, they did not play an active role while it was being carried out.

The one-hour procedure took place in Xian, Shaanxi, on Saturday, according to Science and Technology Daily.

The implants were fitted to within a margin of error of 0.2-0.3mm, reaching the required standard for this kind of operation, experts said.

The technology was designed to overcome mainland China’s shortage of qualified dentists and frequent surgical errors.

It was developed jointly by the Fourth Military Medical University’s affiliated Stomatological Hospital, based in Xian, and the robot institute at Beihang University in Beijing over the past four years.

According to Dr Zhao Yimin, the mainland’s leading oral rehabilitation specialist who works at the hospital, the robot combines dentists’ expertise and the benefits of technology.

It conducts the surgery by itself so it can avoid faults caused by human error.

The artificial teeth it implanted were created by 3D printing, he added.

An epidemiological survey has found there were about 400 million patients needing new teeth in China, but the number of qualified dentists was lagging behind demand.

Around one million implants are carried out across the country each year and the poor quality of the surgery that patients face can often cause further problems.

The report on the surgery pointed out that dental surgeons are working within a small space inside the mouth, including some areas that are hard to see, which often makes surgery difficult to carry out. The use of robots could help get around that problem.

Before Saturday’s operation, dental staff fitted position orientation equipment to the patient.

They then programmed the robot to move into the correct position to carry out the operation, and determined the movements, angle and depth needed to fit the new teeth inside a cavity in the patient’s mouth.

They then tested these movements and collected data to make the necessary adjustments before giving the woman a local anaesthetic and carrying out the operation.

During the operation, the robot was able to make adjustments in line with the patient’s own movements.

Russian strikes said to kill 45 Syrian rebels in Idlib
[IsraelTimes] Russian air strikes kill 45 members of a rebel group in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor says Sunday.

It is unclear why the strikes, which took place Saturday, targeted members of the Faylaq al-Sham rebel group, which has taken part in peace talks supervised by Moscow in the Kazakh capital Astana.

The strikes hit the group in the province of Idlib, which is part of a so-called "de-confliction" zone agreed in a deal between Syrian regime allies Russia and Iran, and rebel backer The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The Observatory initially reported a lower toll, but says the figure had risen as bodies were recovered after the strike on one of the rebel group’s headquarters on the outskirts of the village of Tal Mardikh.

Faylaq al-Sham is an Islamist rebel group considered close to the Moslem Brüderbund movement, and has fought against the former al-Qaeda affiliate that now effectively controls nearly all of Idlib.

A front man for Faylaq al-Sham confirmed the group’s headquarters had been targeted, despite their participation in the last round of talks in Astana.

Deradicalising our universities
[DAWN] LAST week’s exposure of a terrorist hive inside Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
University (KU) prompted a remediation proposal by the chairman of the Higher Education Commission. His solution: if parents "switch off TV and internet early at night and send children off to bed", university students could be shunted away from terrorism. (The reference to adult students as bachas [children] is not unusual ‐ university-going adults are generally considered kids incapable of independent thought.)

If flippant, this proposal trivialises terrorism. But if meant seriously, one fears for the future. HEC’s current counterterrorism strategy is to establish a "directorate of students" within universities so that challenges faced by "students and staff would be registered, analysed and resolved". Extracurricular activities ‐ football and cricket chiefly ‐ will supposedly keep students away from guns and bombs. Should one laugh or cry?

ISIS executes 3 Yutes in Anbar

Qaim (IraqiNews.com) Three civilians were executed by Islamic State militants in west of Anbar over collaboration with security services, a security source said.

“IS executed on Sunday three youths in Qaim, Anbar, after detaining them on Saturday evening in al-Karabla region over accusation of communicating with security troops,” the source told Alghad Press.

At least 10 Islamic State militants reportedly fled the town toward unknown destinations on Saturday

Earlier on the day, the group reportedly executed 28 militants, along with the leader, in Syria’s al-BuKamal as they fled after security troops advanced in Annah town in Anbar.

Iraqi army announced the total recapture of the town, invaded last week, hours after recapturing neighboring Rayhana area.

According to military media, up to 30 militants were killed since offensives launched.

Last week, Iraqi joint troops liberated Akashat region, between Rutba town, on borders with Jordan, and Qaim, on borders with Syria.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them in 2015 and 2016.

He was interrogated on suspicion of incitement for a long list of publications he distributed through his Facebook page.

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court released the man to house arrest under restrictive conditions, but the District Court accepted the appeal filed by the police and extended his detention until Wednesday.

The court further ruled that the suspect would undergo a psychiatric examination.

Adolf Hitler’s underpants have been sold for £5,000 at an auction in the US
[THESUN.CO.UK] THE 'pristine' underpants of fearsome fuhrer Adolf Hitler
...late Fuehrer of Germany, founder of the Third Reich, currently communing with his pals Himmler and Heydrich. He is reincarnated every few days as a politician somebody doesn't like...
have sold for £5,000 at an auction in the US.
"And what am I bid for this fine pair of der Führer's boxers?"
The brutal dictator's briefs, which have a 'surprisingly large' 39-inch waist and are initialled 'A.H.', were left behind in a suite at the luxury Parkhotel Graz in Austria after he stayed there in April 1938.
"Ach! Rudolph, mein lieber Deputät! Machen Sie mir einem Buchung in dem Parkhotel Graz!"
"Ja, mein Führer!"

The country had been annexed by Nazi Germany less than a month before Hitler and his henchmen's stay.
"Bormann! Warum ist mein Unterwehr gestreipt?"
Auctioneer Bill Panagopulos said he believed the underwear was sent to the hotel's laundry department and were only returned after Hitler and his entourage had checked out.
"Göring! Raus mit deisem Unterwehr! Überbringen dem an dem Schnellreinigung!"
"Jawohllllll, mein Führer!"

The seller was the grandson of the hotel's owners at the time.
"Herr Ober, sind die Unterwehr von dem Führer gebrauchsfertig?"
"Ach! Gebrauchsfertig am Donnerstag!"
"Was der Helle? Heute ist Freitag!"

Bill, who owns Alexander Historical Auctions in Chesapeake City, Maryland, where the 19-inch long white linen shorts sold for $6,737 (£4,991) to a private buyer, said they were in 'pristine' condition.
"Helga! Sind die braunen Streipen aus von dem Führerunterwehr?"
He added: "People tend to either buy fearsome Hitler memorabilia, or things that make him look like a buffoon. such as this.
"Ja, ja! Jezt weisser von Schnee!"
"To minimise a monster, you make people laugh at him. We've sold underwear belonging to Eva Braun, who was Hitler's wife, before, but never any belonging to Hitler himself. I think this is the first pair to come to market.

"They were retained in the family who owned the hotel, which is very prestigious, for almost 80 years, and when we got them they were wrapped in tissue paper in a box. They were as clean as if they had just come back from the cleaners.

Thousands take to streets of Majorca as protests sweep Europe
[EXPRESS.CO.UK] Holidaymakers in the capital of Palma looked on as the angry crowd chanted "Without limits, there is no future" and "tourists go home".

Spokeswoman Margalida Ramis said the holiday island was being saturated by visitors at the expense of the environment, local jobs, housing for residents and general co-existence.

She said the islands' dependence on tourism was not a good thing from an economic point of view and was "precarious".

She said: "The Balearic Government must be more sensitive to finding alternatives."

Elite pro-government forces head to northern Hama for upcoming offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] The pro-government "Homeland Shield Forces" (Dara’ al-Watan) made their way from southern Syria to the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate, Saturday, in order to aid in the upcoming offensive along the Idlib-Hama Highway.

According to a military report, the Homeland Shield Forces were sent to the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate after the al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham murderous Moslems violated the ceasefire in the de-escalation zones and launched an offensive near the town of Ma’an earlier this week.

Video footage of the Homeland Shield Forces arriving in northern Hama was released by the al-Quneitra Hawks Brigade on Sunday

UN peacekeepers killed in Mali explosion
[Al Jazeera] At least three United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
soldiers have been killed and five others seriously maimed by an bomb that detonated as they were escorting a convoy in Mali, according to the West African nation's peacekeeping mission.

The convoy was travelling between the towns of Anefis and Gao in Mali's volatile north when the kaboom occurred at around 07:00 GMT, a statement from the mission, MINUSMA, said, adding that the corpse count was provisional.

"Our thoughts go firstly to the families and loved ones. We pledge our complete support to them during this painful ordeal," Koen Davidse, the head of MINUSMA, said. "The mission will use all means to ensure that justice is rendered."

The UN did not immediately release the nationalities of the soldiers.

Despite a 2013 French-led military intervention that drove back gangs - some with links to al-Qaeda - who seized control of Mali's desert north a year earlier, the area remains plagued by violence.

MINUSMA began operations in 2013, providing security to and assisting Malian troops. Attacks on UN troops there have made MINUSMA the world body's deadliest peacekeeping mission.

Last month, gunnies attacked the peacekeeping force's headquarters in the northern city of Timbuktu killing at least seven people and injuring seven others.

On June 8, at least three UN peacekeepers from Guinea were killed in an assault near their base in Kidal.

The Group to Support Islam and Moslems, a fusion of three gangs with previous al-Qaeda links that is also known as Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Moslemeen in Arabic, claimed that attack.

The violence has also prompted five West African countries, known as G5 Sahel, to launch a new multinational force to fight gangs in the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
The new regional anti-terror force is set to include as many as 5,000 soldiers, with one battalion each from Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso

Army kills 3 fidayeen, foils Uri Brigade type attack
[Daily Excelsior] Army today killed three fidayeen in Kalgi area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district and prevented last year’s Uri Brigade headquarter type attack in which 19 Army personnel were killed.

General Officer Comma-nding (GOC) 19 Division of Army Major General RP Kalita told Excelsior that they had inputs for long that hard boyz are trying to carry out fidayeen attack in Uri this month.

"We were already alert. Last night, we got information about presence of three holy warriors in Kalgi area of Uri and we launched an operation that resulted in the encounter. There were 19 houses in the area and we tried to avert any collateral damage and in the evening we neutralized all the three terrorists", said Major General Kalita.

"They seem to be newly infiltrated and must have come two nights before they were trapped in the village. We have recovered three bodies and weapons and operation is over. However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
we will continue searches of the area to look for other items they must have been carrying", the GOC said.

However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...
sources said that Army had inputs that hard boyz were planning a major attack on Army installations in Uri area for long and they had planned it for the month of September.

And last night, Army’s 4 Para, 8 Rashtriya Rifles, 21 Sikh, 53 CRPF and Jammu and Kashmire Police launched a massive operation in Kalgi area in Uri after receiving a specific input about the movement of these Lion of Islams.

Early in the morning, security forces rescued a family where one of the hard boyz was hiding and later the Lion of Islam was killed in the shootout. Another Lion of Islam was hiding in the Masjid and he was later killed and third one was killed this evening. Three AK series rifles, 10 AK magazines, 10 grenades, one UBGL and other war like stores were recovered from their possession.

A police front man said that during night, it was found that one of the hard boyz had forcibly entered into a civilian home and had taken the family members as hostage. "In the early morning, the civilians were rescued and the terrorist was eliminated. Hunt for two other holy warriors was launched and one terrorist was found to have taken refuge in a local mosque. Therefore keeping in view the sanctity of the mosque, a J&K Police team entered into the mosque and without causing any harm to mosque, eliminated this terrorist as well. The third terrorist was also killed later", police said.

Pak army takes control of forward posts as Rangers flee after BSF retaliation
[Daily Excelsior] As the Rangers were unable to face the BSF onslaught along the International Border and had to desert some of the forward posts, Pakistain army has taken control of few posts of Pak Rangers in three Sectors of Chappar, Harpal and Charwa in Sialkot district while as two Army jawans were maimed when a mortar shell went kaboom! close to their post in Balakote sector of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district in wee hours of this morning.

"There have been confirmed inputs with the Intelligence agencies that after Pakistain suffered heavy losses, both in terms of casualties and infrastructure on the International Border at the hands of BSF, Pakistain Government seems to have directed their army to take control of some of the forward posts, which had been deserted by the Rangers in view of intense retaliatory shelling and firing by India," sources told the Excelsior.

Asserting that Pakistain has been completely baffled by heavy retaliation this time by the BSF in which nearly 20 Paks including seven Rangers have been eliminated so far, sources said the Rangers had deserted number of forward posts at Chappar, Harpal and Charwa sector opposite Ramgarh, Arnia and RS Pura during past three to four days prompting Pakistain army to take control of the posts.

Nearly, 50,000 villagers in forward areas of Pakistain have already deserted their houses on the International Border and taken shelter in safer areas, sources pointed out.

After suffering heavy losses, Pakistain is reported to have requested the BSF for flag meeting.

Sources said the BSF was ready to meet with any eventuality on the International Border. It has already given very effective response to Pakistain, during past 10 days of shelling in which apart from casualties suffered by the Rangers, both fatal and non-fatal, a number of posts and bunkers of the Rangers in forward areas have also been decimated.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his leg. Son of a Breech! he exclaimed with feeling......
even as there was no major ceasefire violation along the International Border in all three shelling affected Sectors of Ramgarh in Samba district and Arnia and RS Pura in Jammu district last night, the migration from border areas continued unabated with around 5,000 more people leaving their homes for safer areas, taking total number of migrants colonists to about 25,000. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
very few people have taken shelter in the Government designated migrant camps while majority of people left for the houses of their relatives and friends.

However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
most of the people visit their houses during the day to feed cattle and again return to safer areas in the evening. Many people, who have constructed bunkers in their houses or have concrete heavy boundary walls, continued to stay put in their houses, braving shelling and firing.

Ex-CIA agent resigns from fund after sharing article blaming Jews for US wars
[IsraelTimes] Valerie Plame Wilson again apologizes for 'deeply offensive' piece with 'anti-Semitic tropes,' and for 'perpetuating any conversation that gives credence to anti-Semitism'

Valerie Plame Wilson, a former CIA agent and author, announced that she was resigning as board member of a prominent American foundation, after she came under fire for tweeting a link last week to an article that argued that American Jews were a driving force behind US wars.

Wilson had initially defended the piece, urging followers on Thursday to "put aside" any biases and read the article ‐ titled "America’s Jews are driving America’s wars" ‐ but then apologized profusely, saying she had "messed up" and had only "skimmed this piece."

On Sunday, in a series of posts, she said she was resigning from the Ploughshares Fund.

"Actions have consequences, and while I have been honored to serve on the board of the Ploughshares Fund...to avoid detracting from their mission, I have resigned," Wilson said in consecutive tweets.

"I take full responsibility for my thoughtless and hurtful actions, and there are no excuses for what I did," she said, calling it a "grave mistake" and again apologizing for sharing the "deeply offensive" article, and for "perpetuating any conversation that gives credence to anti-Semitism."

On Friday, the Ploughshares Fund had said in a statement: "Our board member, Valerie Plame Wilson, seriously erred in retweeting an anti-Semitic article from The Unz Review."

"Ploughshares Fund condemns in the strongest terms what we believe to be white supremacist and anti-Semitic propaganda espoused by this site. The prejudices promulgated by this site are an affront to American values and human decency."

On Sunday, she acknowleged her actions, saying: "In the past, I have also carelessly retweeted articles from this same site, the Unz Review, without closely examining content and authors."

"Now that I have, I am horrified and ashamed," she wrote"
In other words, not only did she not find anything objectionable about the site and the content of the articles, but neither did any of her Twitter followers, until someone made a fuss this time. Lovely people, all.
Last month, she drew headlines when she started an internet funding campaign intended to raise enough money to buy shares in Twitter so that she could delete US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s Twitter account.

Tennessee Church Shooter Suspect Identified As 25-Year-Old From Sudan
[DAILYCALLER] Nashville Police have identified the suspect of a mass shooting at a church Sunday morning as 25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson.

Samson is being charged with murder and multiple counts of attempted murder in the attack that killed one and left at least seven other people injured at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, a town just south of Nashville, Tenn.

Samson is a bodybuilder who attended high school in Tennessee and is originally from Karthoum, Sudan, according screenshots of the suspect’s Facebook page obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation before the account was taken down. Police say he is a legal resident and came to the U.S. in the 1990s.

"Everything you’ve ever doubted or made to be believe as false, is real. & vice versa, B" Samson wrote in his final post, around 11 a.m. CST.

Samson posted photos of himself posing at a gym Sunday morning, with the caption "Unrestricted, paroxysm."

A Nashville Police Department front man said the shooter entered the church after 11 a.m. CST wearing a neoprene ski mask. One woman was shot in the parking lot before the shooter entered the church and opened fire on about 42 people still inside.

One church member, 22-year-old Caleb Engle, confronted the shooter before being pistol whipped in the face. Engle then went to his car to retrieve a gun, which he has under a concealed carry license.

Engle returned to the church to confront the gunman again. The gunman shot himself in the face when the man returned, possibly by accident.

"He’s the hero here," Nashville police chief Steve Anderson said. "He’s the person who stopped this madness in its tracks."
