Iraq
Spengler: How I learned to stop worrying and love chaos
In the Weekly Standard, one Dominic Green writes that "there is no reason why an independent state in Iraqi Kurdistan should destabilize the region." Mr. Green means well--he supports the Kurds, as do I--but the root of our problem lies in our misguided desire for stability. Of course a Kurdish state will destabilize the region. That's precisely why we should support Kurdish national aspirations, although we may have to take care to keep the control rods in the fission pile. Our problem is that we have diplomats and generals who don't want to make waves, and we face opponents who know how to shift the burden of uncertainty onto us.

At a twenty-year horizon neither Turkey nor Iran can be stabilized, for demographic reasons I have detailed in Asia Times. Iraq and Syria, the twin products of Sykes-Picot colonial state-construction, cannot be put back together again. What Vladimir Putin understands well, and we refuse even to consider is that the question isn't whether chaos, but whose.

ISIS leader ‘killed' by Russia resurfaces in audio recording
Al-Baghdadi not as dead as we were told?
The Islamic State on Thursday released an audio recording of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, whom the Russians said they killed in June, indicating the notorious terror leader may still be alive.

The 46-minute recording was released by the IS-run al-Furquan news outlet Thursday, but it wasn’t clear when it was made, although Baghdadi refers to North Korea’s threats against the United States and Japan in the message.

The last audio recording supposedly from Baghdadi, who has been seen in public only once, was released last November

Hillary Clinton Spent 600 Hours In The Makeup Chair Because America Is Sexist
Hillary Clinton claims, in her new book, What Happened, that she was forced to spend hundreds of hours getting her hair and makeup done because Americans are super duper sexist.

"I’m not jealous of my male colleagues often, but I am when it comes to how they can just shower, shave, put on a suit and be ready to go. The few times I’ve gone out in public without makeup, it’s made the news," she wrote, according to Newsweek magazine. She says she was "shocked" to discover how much time and money it took to get her "television ready."

Apparently, in the time since she was First Lady, the nation's Patriarchy has expanded exponentially, driving women to spend hours and hours fixing their hair and putting on their face, lest their husbands and other male members of society see them in their natural state, and immediately ramp up their oppression.

Clinton was particularly jealous, she says, of Bernie Sanders, who often looks like he spent the last week sleeping under a bridge in a cold climate. The sweater-vest-and-mad-scientist-hair was Bernie's signature look, and progressive journalists took to mainstream media sites to defend his scatterbrained couture.

Bill Clinton: "I Have Never Seen So Much Expended On So Little"

Clinton, however, was "forced" to prep for hours in advance of any media appaerance [sic], and spend thousands of dollars on ill-fitting coats and terribly tailored pantsuits, just so she could be "taken seriously" by a media that was booking hotel rooms for her coronation back in August of 2015.

It takes a lot of effort, Clinton writes, "just to be a woman in the public eye."
Continues.

Russian-bought BLM ad on FB targeted Baltimore and Ferguson (Video)
[CNN] At least one of the Facebook ads bought by Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign referenced Black Lives Matter and was specifically targeted to reach audiences in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, sources with knowledge of the ads told CNN.
Chesimard still enjoying sanctuary in Communist Cuba is she ?
Ferguson and Baltimore had gained widespread attention for the large and violent protests over police shootings of black men.

The decision to target the ad in those two cities offers the first look at how accounts linked to the Russian government-affiliated troll farm known as the Internet Research Agency used geographically targeted advertising to sow political chaos in the United States, the sources said.

Facebook has previously said that roughly one-quarter of the 3,000 ads bought by the agency were geographically targeted, but it has not revealed any specific locations. Facebook has also not revealed which demographic groups and interest groups were targeted by the ads.
The digging into this 'inconvenient truth' must stop immediately. All files must be sealed and placed alongside the Soetoro passports and college transcripts for 65 years.

Terror Networks
Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey: Time for Trump's State Department to call them sponsors of terrorism
[Washington Examiner] Since 1979, the State Department has maintained a State Sponsor of Terrorism list.

Three laws inform the designation: (1) The Export Administration Act of 1979; (2) The Arms Export Control Act; and (3) the Foreign Assistance Act. If the secretary of state determines a country "has repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism," onto the list it goes. Libya, Iraq, South Yemen, and Syria were charter members of the list, and Cuba, Iran, and North Korea all joined in the 1980s. In 1993, Secretary of State Warren Christopher added Sudan, which at the time hosted Osama Bin Laden.

Over the next several years, however, the State Department removed most countries: South Yemen left the list in 1990 when, upon Yemeni unification, it ceased to exist, and Iraq was removed after Saddam Hussein's ouster. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice removed both Libya and North Korea less because either state abandoned terrorism, and more to advance unrelated diplomatic initiatives. Secretary of State John Kerry acted similarly with regard to Cuba.

Today, only Iran, Syria, and Sudan remain listed, and it's likely that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will remove Sudan soon. The shrinking of the state sponsorship list against the backdrop of worsening terrorism, much of it supported by governments, highlights how subjective short-term diplomatic considerations corrupt what should be a tool to pressure states to stop using terror.

It's time to return the terror list to its original purpose: calling out states which embrace terrorism, no matter whether they are U.S. allies or not. Certainly, Iran and Syria deserve to be on the list. The Palestinian Authority would too, if it was a state. Rice removed North Korea for all the wrong reasons, and the Trump administration should rectify that mistake. But, what about the other countries that have never been on the list but deserve to be?

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Border Officer Who Was Stabbed in a Previous Terror Attack Killed in West Bank Crossing Shooting
[PJ] On Tuesday, a unit of Israel’s Border Police, stationed at the entrance to the small town of Har Adar, approximately 15 km (roughly 9.3 miles) to the west of Jerusalem, was screening a group of Arab workmen who had arrived at the scene; one of them, reportedly employed in Har Adar as a cleaner, was a terrorist.

Armed with a pistol reportedly stolen from the Israel Defense Forces, the terrorist, identified as Nimer Ahmad Mahmoud Jamal, a 37-year-old father of four, from the nearby village of Beit Surik, firing with deadly accuracy and amazing rapidity, managed to kill three of the people there and seriously wound a fourth before another border policeman was able to shoot him dead with an assault rifle. Jamal had no previous record of involvement in terrorism.

As reported in numerous Israeli media outlets, the identities of the three victims have been released. They were: Border Police Officer St. Sgt. Solomon Gavriya, 20, of Be’er Ya’aqov; security guard Youssef Ottman, 25, of Abu Ghosh, a suburb of Jerusalem; and security guard Or Arish, also 25, a resident of Ha Adar serving as a guard. All three have been laid to rest; hundreds of mourners attended S/Sgt. Gaviria’s funeral

S/Sgt. Gaviria, of Ethiopian extraction and by all accounts a very highly regarded member of the Ethiopian community in his home town, had been a member of the Border Police for less than two years. In an earlier incident, he had been wounded by a knife-wielding terrorist, whom he had at the time managed to ward off, despite his wounds. Nonetheless, he had insisted on returning to duty at the earliest possible time after his recovery from that incident, and has now been been killed. He is survived by two sisters and a brother.

Subsequently, Israeli security forces raided the village from which the terrorist came and arrested three people, including the terrorist’s two brothers, suspected of complicity in the attack.

FBI Director Warns Terrorist Drones Are ‘Coming Here Imminently'
[TownHall] FBI Director Christopher Wray warned lawmakers Wednesday that terrorists using drones to carry out attacks is the next ’imminent’ threat.

"I think we do know that terrorist organizations have an interest in using drones," he said during a Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing.

"We’ve seen that overseas already with growing frequency. I think the expectation is that it’s coming here imminently. I think they are relatively easy to acquire, relatively easy to operate, and quite difficult to disrupt and monitor," Wray added.

Nicholas Rasmussen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, also testified about the threat from drones.

Police Sergeant Marius Claassens' partner Alex retires
[SA People and Dog News] Western Cape: A dog is commonly known as man’s best friend... but to Sergeant Marius Claassens from the West Coast K8 Unit, based in Saldanha Bay, his ’paw enforcement’ partner, Alex, is his partner and so much more.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Alex – a Belgian Malinois – has been Marius’ “eyes and ears, his protector and companion, in light and in darkness, whether he is chasing criminals and apprehending suspects, or running on the beach.”

Sadly, as energetic as Alex is, SAPS says he is “slowly fading”. The patrol dog is now 11-years-old… which equates to 77-years-old in human years.

Marius and his patrol dog have been partners for many years and have shared “moments of success, love and joy” but unfortunately Alex is now suffering from ill health – he has back and hip problems for his years of service… and so, he has come to the end of his career with his partner in blue.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Will the FBI's college basketball probe eventually expand to football?
[SBNATION] Tuesday, the FBI shocked the sports world by announcing bribery and fraud charges against four prominent college basketball assistant coaches and six peripheral hoops figures, implicating Adidas in a player-payments scheme, putting NCAA-probation'd Louisville in some really dangerous territory, and promising more names to come.

The shock wasn't learning how college hoops works. The sport long ago turned over its pre-college circuit to shoe companies and agency runners. It was jarring to see the breadth of the investigation, to notice the level of detail and leak-proof professionalism that an NCAA investigation typically lacks, and to realize the feds cared about routine recruiting transactions in the first place. Oh, and we got hard numbers for what star one-and-dones can make up front: $100,000 and $150,000, in a couple cases.

So far, the probe includes only basketball, at least publicly. When FBI assistant director William Sweeney said, "we have your playbook," he was referring to hoops' use of eventual apparel sponsorship deals to steer recruits toward certain universities. That's been a hidden-in-plain-sight element of college basketball that's rarely even been alleged in, say, football.

Football payments to players are a little less structured. It still happens, and allegations of six-figure offers still abound. But in football, the NCAA-created black market is filled less by apparel/agency types who want to make money and more by sports fans who want to see their teams win (and yeah, there are exceptions on both sides). With that, we turn once again to Steven Godfrey's "Meet the Bag Man:"

India-Pakistan
New Delhi wants to buy US drones to monitor China in the Indian Ocean
[Wash Times] New Delhi is expected to purchase two dozen unarmed drones from the United States to monitor growing Chinese activity in the Indian Ocean.

President Donald Trump's administration authorized the sale in June, with the price tag estimated at $3 billion, according to defense researcher Jane's by IHS Markit. The U.S. approval was the first such clearance to a friendly, non-NATO nation, but the transaction has yet to be finalized and was a key topic of discussion during General James Mattis' visit to India this week.

Manufactured by American defense contractor General Atomics, the unmanned devices‐ called Guardians ‐ are "the world's most advanced maritime reconnaissance drones and can help India track the movement of Chinese warships with its multi-mode maritime radar," said Harsh Pant, head of the strategic studies program at the Observer Research Foundation, a New Delhi-based think tank.

Privately held General Atomics makes the drone in question as a maritime variant of its Reaper unmanned vehicle.

Sen. Klobuchar (D-Minn.) has not read Pub tax plan but is not happy with it
[Wash Times] Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Wednesday that Democrats would like more tax loopholes closed in the newly released Republican plan.

"I think there’s a lot of Democrats that would favor reducing the corporate tax rate as long as we find a way to close loopholes so we have a way to pay for it," Ms. Klobuchar, Minnesota Democrat, said on MSNBC.

While she acknowledged she had not read the entire plan yet, she said she sees too much of the legislation benefits the wealthy and not the middle class.

"We really want the focus on helping the middle class," she said. "There are plenty of loopholes you could close."

She also said that Democrats promise not to take up tax reform until President Trump released his tax returns is not something she has heard mentioned.

* Tax corporations into extinction because they are evil

Navy Returns to Compasses and Pencils to Help Avoid Collisions at Sea
[NYT] WASHINGTON ‐ Urgent new orders went out earlier this month for United States Navy warships that have been plagued by deadly mishaps this year.

More sleep and no more 100-hour workweeks for sailors. Ships steaming in crowded waters like those near Singapore and Tokyo will now broadcast their positions as do other vessels. And ships whose crews lack basic seamanship certification will probably stay in port until the problems are fixed.

All seemingly obvious standards, military officials say, except that the Navy only now is rushing the remedies into effect after two collisions in two months left 17 sailors dead, despite repeated warnings about the looming problems from congressional watchdogs and the Navy’s own experts dating to 2010.

"Many of the issues we’re discussing today have been known to Navy leaders for years. How do we explain that, Admiral?" Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican chairman of the Armed Services Committee, demanded of Adm. John Richardson, the chief of naval operations, at a hearing last week.

"Senator, there is no explanation," Admiral Richardson said.

The orders issued recently by the Navy’s top officer for ships worldwide, Vice Adm. Thomas S. Rowden, drew on the lessons that commanders gleaned from a 24-hour fleetwide suspension of operations last month to examine basic seamanship, teamwork and other fundamental safety and operational standards.

Erdogan warns of ‘ethnic war’ risk over Iraqi Kurdish independence
[DAWN] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
on Tuesday warned the Iraqi Kurdistan region against pushing for independence after holding a non-binding referendum, saying it risked sparking an "ethnic war" in the region.

In his latest barrage of warnings to Iraqi Kurdish leader Massud Barzani, Erdogan even warned that his region risked going short on food and clothing if Ottoman Turkish sanctions were applied.

"If Barzani and the Kurdish Regional Government do not go back on this mistake as soon as possible, they will go down in history with the shame of having dragged the region into an ethnic and sectarian war," Erdogan said in a televised speech.

Iraq’s Kurds on Monday voted in a historic independence referendum despite fierce opposition from Baghdad and neighbours Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
Results were expected within 24 hours, with an overwhelming "yes" vote not in doubt.

US pledges over $100 mln in cooperation agreements with Egypt: Ministry
[AlAhram] Egypt and the US signed eight economic cooperation agreements worth $121.6 million to develop investment, education, health, agriculture and water management in line with Egypt's economic reform programme as well as the country's 2030 development plan.

Egypt's international cooperation and investment ministry said the agreements were signed between minister Sahar Nasr and director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Sherry Carlin at the ministry's premises in Cairo.

The agreements include a grant of $29 million to be disbursed periodically by 2022, with an initial disbursal of $6 million, for improving family planning and reproductive health.

The second agreement is a grant worth $50.8 million for supporting integrated solutions for water with the housing ministry and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.

The water agreement aims to increase the availability of potable water and improve its quality. It also aims to improve sanitation services, especially in rural areas, by establishing water plants, improving the methods of water treatment, replacing damaged pipelines, and building sewage systems.

One of the agreements allocates $13 million to enhancing the country's lower and higher education systems through support programmes, and allots $27 million for the US-Egypt Higher Education Initiative.

The agreement should help create more job opportunities for higher education graduates, as well as more scholarships for and partnerships with Egyptian higher educational institutions, according to the ministry.

The deal also sets $4 million to "broaden the scope of relations between scientific and technological communities in both countries, enhance scientific and technological cooperation for peaceful purposes and exchanging ideas, information, skills and technology of common interest," according to the ministry.

The agreements also allot $12 million to raise incomes and job opportunities for farmers in targeted communities in Upper Egypt (Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, and Aswan) through increasing productivity, engaging farmers in global markets and focusing on new areas in agriculture.

A trade and investment promotion agreement worth $5.1 was signed to bolster the investment and trade environment, and specifically micro, small and medium enterprises.

Another agreement allocates $3.6 million for the ministries of justice and social solidarity as well as the National Council for Women and the National Council for Population to put into effect various initiatives in criminal justice, family justice and media development.

"These agreements reflect our strong and enduring partnership and the impact that our joint efforts have on the people of Egypt," USAID's Carlin said, according to a statement by the US Embassy in Cairo.

The statement added that through cooperation with the Egyptian international cooperation and investment ministry, the two countries are "strengthening the cornerstones of stability and prosperity in Egypt."

Since 1978, the USAID programme has contributed nearly $30 billion in Egypt, according to the US envoy in Cairo.

According to investment minister Nasr, the agreement came as "an outcome of [President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's] meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
in New York and what has been agreed upon regarding economic cooperation between both countries."

El-Sisi's meeting with Trump last week was the first between the two following an August decision by the US to withhold aid to Egypt, citing concerns over Cairo’s record on democracy and human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
Trump told news hounds before the meeting that the US "will consider" resuming some of the suspended military assistance to Egypt.

Last month, Egypt described the US decision to reduce aid as a "misguided decision given the nature of the strategic relations" that have bound the two countries for four decades.

Egypt normally receives $1.3 billion annually in military assistance from the United States and nearly $250 million in economic aid.

Syrian Army captures new Jordanian border points
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their large-scale assault along the Damascus-Jordanian border, Wednesday, capturing new points from the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA).

Led by the 5th Corps, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the last areas under the control of the Free Syrian Army in southeast Damascus, scoring a large advance after a fierce battle near the Jordanian border.

According to a Syrian military source, the SAA managed to break-through the Free Syrian Army’s lines near the Jordanian border, seizing the small town of Rajm Matetrah and several border points.

As a result of this advance tonight, the Syrian Arab Army has now reached Garrison 177 and imposed fire control over the Hamad area of southeastern Damascus.

7 ISIS Big Turbans smoked in Kirkuk airstrikes
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Seven Islamic State leaders, including a top security chief, were killed as U.S.-led Coalition jets bombarded the group’s holdout, southwest of Kirkuk, a local source said.

“Coalition jets bombarded an IS location, where several leaders were there, in Hawija,” the source told AlSumaria News. “Preliminary information indicate death of around seven leaders including member in charge of securing the group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.”

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source added that the airstrike left several vehicles and tactic units of the group destroyed.

Earlier on the day, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said 557 IS militants were killed, while more than 100 villages and regions were liberated during the first phase of offensives in Hawija.

The Joint Operations Command announced, Sunday, conclusion of the first phase of operations to recapture Hawija, the group’s holdout in southwestern Kirkuk.

Launched last week, the operation managed to take over al-Zab river region, the northern part of Makhoul mountains and several villages west of Tigris River.

Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, spokesman of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, said previously that the number of Islamic State members in Hawija falls between 800 and 1500.

Hawija and other neighboring regions, west of Kirkuk, have been held by IS since mid-2014, when the group emerged to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria.

'A fairytale without the prince': Italian woman 'marries herself'
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] A madly in love couple is usually a prerequisite for any marriage, but a lovelorn Italian woman has broken with tradition by 'marrying herself'.

Laura Mesi dressed in a white gown and was joined by 70 family and friends for the self-marriage ceremony, which is not legally recognised.

She paid for the €10,000 (£8,700) wedding herself and had a cake made - with a figurine of just her on top of it. Ms Mesi even went on honeymoon to Egypt - by herself.

The fitness trainer began exploring the possibility of marrying herself following the end of a 12-year relationship in 2015, the BBC reports.

Following her break-up, Ms Mesi promised to wed herself if she didn’t find the perfect partner by her 40th birthday.

She hasn’t ruled out eventually marrying another person, but says her happiness does not depend on finding a man.

Co-accused in Tania Khaskheli murder arrested in Sanghar
[DAWN] Jamshoro police on Tuesday tossed in the slammer
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
a co-accused in the murder of 19-year-old student Tania Khaskheli in Sanghar, police said on Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Jamshoro Irfan Bahadur confirmed the arrest of Ali Noohani from Sanghar. He was produced before journalists on Wednesday night.

The SSP told the press that Ali had accompanied Khan Muhammad, alias Khan Noohani, the prime accused in the case, on a cycle of violence to Khaskheli's house. He said that he waited outside Khaskheli's house as Khan killed her.

Ali allegedly told police he was not aware Khan was going to murder Khaskheli, as he had been informed by Khan that he was going to retrieve a cellphone from her.

After the murder, Khan and Ali expeditiously departed at a goodly pace of the crime, the SSP said.

He said the co-accused had been handed over to a team constituted under the Additional Inspector General Sindh Aftab Pathan's supervision, adding that the bike used by both suspects had been recovered and handed over to the investigation team.

Tania Khaskheli was bumped off on Sept 7 in the the town of Jhangara-Bajara near Sehwan, Jamshoro district, allegedly after she turned down Khan Noohani's marriage proposal.

Venezuela Prepares For War With U.S.
[NEWSWEEK] Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro called on his nation's military leaders Tuesday to prepare for war against the U.S. days after the Trump administration banned Venezuelan officials from entering the nation.

"We have been shamelessly threatened by the most criminal empire that ever existed and we have the obligation to prepare ourselves to guarantee peace," said Maduro, who wore a green uniform and a military hat as he spoke with his army top brass during a military exercise involving tanks and missiles. "We need to have rifles, missiles and well-oiled tanks at the ready....to defend every inch of the territory if needs be," he added.

The Trump administration has taken a hard stance against Maduro's regime by banning money lending to Venezuela's government or its state oil company PDVSA, and passing sanctions against Maduro and his brass hats.

Maduro referenced the sanctions during his speech at the military base. As he spoke, Russian military plans flew in the sky as part of the training exercise, Agence La Belle France-Presse reported.

"The future of humanity cannot be the world of illegal sanctions, of economic persecution," Maduro said.

OJ could begin search for 'real killers' as early as Monday
[CBS] O.J. Simpson could be released from a Las Vegas prison a free man as early as Monday, according to Nevada prison officials Wednesday.

Under the terms of a plan worked out by the state, the 70-year-old Simpson would be transferred from Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada to High Desert State Prison outside Las Vegas for a release that could happen on Oct. 2, state Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Keast told the Associated Press.

Keast said the process of releasing the former NFL star and actor was still being approved and documents would need to be signed to finalize the release.

Simpson spent nine years behind bars on armed robbery and kidnapping charges following a 2008 confrontation between Simpson and two sports memorabilia dealers at the Palace Station hotel in Las Vegas.

An Oct. 1 eligible parole date was set by state parole board members during a hearing in July. Nevada inmate releases are only conducted on weekdays, making Oct. 2 the first business day on which a Simpson release could be handled by state probation officials.

Uganda introduces bill to remove presidential age limit
[Al Jazeera] Uganda's parliament has taken a first step towards scrapping the presidential age limit that would allow long-time leader Yoweri Museveni to stay in power, in a heated session that saw politicians brawling for a second consecutive day.

The move on Wednesday met widespread opposition from civic rights activists, opposition politicians and religious leaders.

Under the existing constitution, a person standing for president must be under 75 years of age - which would make Museveni, 73, ineligible to stand at the next polls in 2021.

Tempers frayed in parliament for the second day over the plan, backed by members of Museveni's National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

MPs brandished microphone stands, threw punches and clambered over benches as security officers sought to remove 25 politicians barred by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga after engaging in another brawl on the same issue on Tuesday.

Despite the disruption, the bill was passed after the leader of the parliamentary opposition, Winnie Kiiza of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), led a walk-out.

"We are not going to be part of Museveni's life presidency project," Kiiza said.

But supporters of the motion argued that age limits discriminate against the elderly.

"Age should not be a factor that hinders the rights and freedom of any Ugandan to vie for the post of a president," Moses Balyeku, a member of parliament, said.

Egypt court convicts 15 Muslim Brotherhood members
[Iran Press TV] A court in Egypt has sentenced eight members of the outlawed Moslem Brüderbund to life in prison and handed down a three-year jail sentence to seven others.

According to Arabic-language Egyptian daily al-Youm al-Sabe', the Zagazig Criminal Court issued the ruling on Wednesday after it convicted the individuals of being members of "a terrorist organization."

The defendants were among 18 people who were tossed in the calaboose
Please don't kill me!
back in 2016 for allegedly "inciting violence, distributing inflammatory leaflets against the state institutions and possessing burning materials to carry out acts of sabotage in the city of Abu Hammad" in Sharqia province.

Three other suspects in the same case were acquitted.

The Egyptian government has been cracking down on dissent since the country's first democratically-elected president, Mohammed Morsi, was ousted in a military coup led by the former head of the armed forces and current President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in July 2013.

Iraq
Iraqi Kurds overwhelmingly back split from Baghdad
[Al Jazeera] Iraqi Kurds overwhelmingly voted in favour of a split from Iraq, according to regional officials, as tensions soared between Erbil and Baghdad following a contested referendum.

Electoral commission officials on Wednesday told a news conference in Erbil, capital of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, that 92.73 percent of the 3,305,925 people who cast ballots voted "Yes" in Monday's poll.

Turnout was put at 72.61 percent.

Any idea of secession is bitterly opposed by the central government in Baghdad, as well as neighbouring countries such as The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

and Iran. The United States and the United States had also pressed Kurdish leaders to call off the poll.

#1  A good solution would be that the Kurdish and Sunni regions split off together from the Shiite areas.
Since there are more Shiites than the others together, the Shiites will be able to dominate any election they can unite on. This would be a prescription for disaster.
The Kurds and Sunni's have poor historical relations, but would have more foreign support and be a buffer between Syria and possibly Iran dominated Shiite Iraq.Internally they could both be as autonomous as they want. If Israel and Saudi Arabia can live at peace with one another, the Kurds and Sunni Iraqis can also.

Top military officials of Iran, Iraq hold talks amid Kurdish independence vote
[Iran Press TV] The military brass of Iran and Iraq have met and held talks amid a controversial referendum in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri on Wednesday received his Iraqi counterpart Major General Othman al-Ghanmi, who arrived in Tehran at the head of a military delegation earlier in the day.

The issue of terrorism, the Kurdish independence vote and matters of mutual interest were among the major topics discussed in the meeting between the top military officials.

During the meeting, Baqeri hailed the latest achievements gained by the Iraqi army in the fight against terrorists.

"We are so pleased that the Iraqi nation and army have made great gains in the battle against holy warriors and have crushed the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
s," he said.

The Iraq official, for his part, said that Iraq was targeted by Takfiri terrorism, adding, however, that most of the territories held by Takfiri gunnies had been liberated.

Trump cuts Obama's refugee target in half, takes more Christians than Muslims
President Trump, in just eight months in office, has succeeded in upending U.S. refugee policy, cutting by more than half the 110,000-refugee target that the Obama administration had bequeathed him and dramatically shifting the demographics of who is accepted.

Gone is President Obama's overwhelming focus on Muslims, and particularly on Syrians fleeing a civil war that his administration facilitated. Under Mr. Trump, the rate of Syrian refugees has been cut by more than 80 percent, and Christians have overtaken Muslims in total refugees resettled.

"It's impossible to escape the clear message that there's a new sheriff in town," said Matthew O'Brien, research director at the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which advocates for stricter refugee controls.

The Trump changes have reverberated around the globe, with the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees drastically cutting the number of refugee candidates it submits to the U.S.

After recommending nearly 35,000 refugee candidates last year, the UNHCR submitted just 3,591 applications from January to July.

Another bomb exploded near commercial stores in Karghoulia, Nahrawan, southeast of Baghdad, killing one and wounding three others, according to sources.

Violence and armed conflicts left 297 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of ِAugust, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths. Baghdad was the most affected province with 45 deaths and 135 injuries.

1 dead in bombing attack in Abu Ghraib

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A bomb explosion left one dead and three wounded in western Baghdad on Tuesday, security sources in the Iraqi capital were quoted saying.

An explosive device placed near a popular market in Sobeihat, Abu Gharib, west of the capital, exploded, killing one and wounding three, Alghad Press quoted the sources saying.

2 wounded in bomb attack in Abu Ghraib

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Two civilians were injured as a bomb blast occurred in west of Baghdad, a security source was quoted saying on Wednesday.

“A bomb went off, today, near the industrial district in Abu Ghraib district, west of Baghdad, leaving two civilians injured,” the source told Alghad Press.

The injured, according to the source, who asked to remain anonymous, were transferred to hospital for treatment.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

A monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), which excludes security members deaths, said 297 Iraqis, were killed and injured due to violence and armed conflicts during the month of ِAugust. Baghdad was the most affected province with 45 deaths and 135 injuries.

Baghdad has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016. While most of of the explosions and attacks went without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has claimed several incidents.

According to security observers, even after Islamic State’s main havens across Iraqi provinces are conquered, the group may still constitute a security threat through sleeper cells and lone wolf attacks.

Iraqi forces repel and push back ISIS near Ramadi
[ALMASDARNEWS] The combined forces of the Iraqi army, police and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have succesfully repelled the latest ISIS attack on the central Iraqi city of Ramadi. Even more, sources indicate that the Iraqi forces counterattacked and drove the terrorist group further back then had been the case prior to the attack.

Halaf al-Jalibawi, commander of the PMU in the area, told Iraqi news network al-Sumariah that the surprise attack by ISIS on the city of Ramadi came from the Attaash area, which was already under terrorist control. According to Jalibawi, the Iraqi forces not only fended off the ISIS attack on the city, but pushed back and liberated all of Attaash as well.

The bandidos forces of Evil had used 20 vehicles filled with troops and heavy weaponry to launch an attack against the so-caled Five Kilo, Seven Kilo, and al-Jame’eh districts of Ramadi. The defending troops succesfully routed ISIS from each of these areas after a short but heavy fight. Sources have it that twenty bad boyz were potted during the offensive.

ISIS executes 5 in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has executed five civilians over accusation of “communication with apostates from land of infidelity” in west of Anbar, a security source said.

“IS militants executed five youths from Qaim, after arresting them three days ago at cybercafes. They were accused of communicating with and sending information to apostates from land of infidelity,” the source told Alghad Press on Wednesday.

“The group informed residents in Qaim, Rawa and alBu-Kamal that it regained control over Ramadi once again,” the source added.

Earlier on the day, 20 IS militants were killed after brief encounters flared when group members invaded areas in at al-Tash and the 5th Kilometer regions, south and west of Ramadi.

On Sunday, the group reportedly executed 28 militants, along with the leader, in Syria’s al-BuKamal as they fled after security troops advanced in Annah town in Anbar.

Iraqi army announced the total recapture of the town, invaded last week, hours after recapturing neighboring Rayhana area. Last week, Iraqi joint troops liberated Akashat region, between Rutba town, on borders with Jordan, and Qaim, on borders with Syria.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them in 2015 and 2016.

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Aerospace Forces have carried out a successful precision strike against a gathering of al-Qaeda commanders in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib, neutralizing several high-value targets.

According to official Russian military-diplomatic sources, the Arclight airstrike targeted a meeting of Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (Syrian al-Qaeda franchise) leaders south of Idlib city, killing five commanders and 32 other jihadist faceless myrmidons who also were present at the gathering area.

The commanders, identified as Abu Sulman al-Saudi, Abu al-Abbas Anadin, Abu Hasan, Walid al-Mustafa and also Abu Mudjagid, were collectively responsible for a well-planned terrorist attack against Russian military police in Hama province nine days ago.

Reports claim that all intelligence resources available to the Russian military where extensively utilized in order to locate the terrorist leaders.

In addition to killing a total of 37 terrorists, the missile strike is claimed by the Russians to have also destroyed an ammunition deport, an explosive storage center and six gun-trucks.

Russian launch 18 airstrikes in Idlib

Idlib (Syria News) Local sources informed that Russian warplanes carried out, on Wednesday, more than 18 air strikes on the town of al-Tamane‘a, south Idlib, Qasioun News reported.

The sources revealed that five Russian warplanes bombarded the city of al-Tamane’a with rockets, bombs, and Bunker-Buster missiles, wounding several civilians and causing a significant damage to the area.

Large number of civilians fled the Tamane’a City in the last two days towards north of Syria, the sources added. Furthermore, Russian warplanes conducted dozens of raids on the city, following an attack launched by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham on the regime-held areas, in northern Hama.

It is noteworthy that the Russian Ministry of Defense has announced killing five leaders of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, south of Idlib, by several air strikes on the area, dozens of civilians were killed in Aleppo, Hama and Idlib.

Antifa Rioter In Oregon Gets Five Years In Jail For Torching Police Car
[AmericanLookout] A far left Antifa rioter in Portland, Oregon is heading to jail for five years for his involvement in an incident that left a police car burned. It’s good to see one of these thugs suffering the consequences of their actions.

How to Deal with Being in Prison

The Oregonian reports: Man who threw flare into cop car during May 1 protests gets 5 years

A 23-year-old man who threw burning flares into a Portland police cruiser and the downtown Target store during May 1 protests that overran downtown Portland admitted guilt Monday and will be sentenced to five years in prison.

A local TV station aired live footage of Damion Zachary Feller hurling a flare through a shattered picture window at Target, prompting employees to run with fire extinguishers to put out a burning section of carpet. TV and cellphone cameras also caught Feller throwing a flare through the shattered window of a battered police SUV parked across the street from Target, at Southwest 10th Avenue and Morrison.
I'll bet his mentors didn't make this downside clear to the maroon.

Iraq
Salahuddin Kombat Kronicle
20 ISIS Bad Guys die in attack near al-Zarka

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Twenty Islamic State militants have been killed and injured as security troops repelled an attack against in Salahuddin, AlSumaria News reported.

“Al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) repulsed on Tuesday evening a huge attack that lasted for several hours by IS militants coming from Hawija, Kirkuk, in an attempt to regain control on al-Zarka strategic bridge, which links Tuz Khurmatu and Tikrit,” a security source from Salahuddin said.

“Troops killed 16 militants and injured four others,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.

On Sunday, a similar attack was thwarted by troops deployed near al-Zarka bridge, leaving nine militants killed.

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

On Saturday, Federal Police announced liberation of eastern Shirqat, the group’s holdout in north of Salahuddin.

225 militants had been killed since the launch of operations in Shirqat, Jawdat previously announced. The group reportedly started collective executions of members who attempted to flee battles in Salahuddin to Hawija, the group’s stronghold in neighboring Kirkuk where parallel security operations are running to retake militants-held regions.

The Iraqi army said in September its forces recaptured the western coast of Shirqat, located south of Mosul, on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias.

Iraqi Kops capture ISIS training center in al-Zab

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) The Federal Police have seized Islamic State’s training facility in north of Salahuddin.

In a brief statement on Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, chief of Federal Police, said “troops confiscated a training center for the militant group. There was a media office inside at al-Zab region.”

Troops deployed in Zab, according to Jawdat, “are ready to go through the second phase of Hawija liberation.”

IS holds pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, posing threats to the liberated regions.

On Sunday, the Joint Operations Command announced completing the first phase of operations to recapture Hawija, the group’s holdout in southwestern Kirkuk.

Launched last week, the operation managed to take over al-Zab river region, the northern part of Makhoul mountains and several villages west of Tigris River.

Federal Police announced, earlier this week, liberation of eastern Shirqat, the group’s holdout in north of Salahuddin.

225 militants had been killed since the launch of operations in Shirqat, Jawdat previously announced.

The Iraqi army said in September its forces recaptured the western coast of Shirqat, located south of Mosul, on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias.

3 wounded in bombing attack in Balad

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Three civilians were wounded as an IED blast exploded, south of Salahuddin, a security source said.

“An IED, placed near fuel station in Balad town, south of Salahuddin, went off late on Tuesday, leaving three civilians wounded, one of whom in serious condition,” the source told Baghdad Today on Wednesday.

“Security cordoned off the blast spot, while ambulances transferred the wounded to hospital,” the source added.

Fighting between ISIS and Iraqi forces yields 8 Dead Bad Guys

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government paramilitary troops have announced repulsing an attack by suicide bombers targeting Shia Muslim marchers in south of Salahuddin.

A statement by the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “troops of the 43rd and sixth brigades killed on Wednesday four suicide attackers who attempted infiltration into Husseiniya ritual marches in al-Rumailat and al-Athiya regions in north of Balad town.”

Shia muslims make their way every year to Karbala, southwest of Baghdad, to mark a religious ritual that commemorates the death of the Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Imam Hussein in 680 AD.

In related news, Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday killing four suicide bombers who attempted attacking a police station, south of the province.

“Salahuddin police managed to kill four attackers who tried to attack al-Farhatiya police station late on Tuesday,” the ministry said in a statement.

“The attack left two conscripts wounded,” it added.

Late on Tuesday, an IED went off in Balad town, south of Salahuddin, leaving three civilians wounded, one of whom in serious condition.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

Iraqi air forces hammer ISIS forces in Mutaibija

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) The U.S.-led Coalition has heavily bombarded several regions in east of Salahuddin, a local source from the province said on Wednesday.

“Coalition jets heavily pounded several regions in Mutaibija, Salahuddin, targeting rest houses and vehicles containing explosives,” the source told AlSumaria News.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said, “the heavy shelling by coalition jets was to ruin attempts by Islamic State to launch any surprise attacks from Mutaibija to break the seige imposed on the group after it lost Zarka bridge, which was important for logistic support from Hawija, few days ago.”

Occasional attacks have been witnessed in Mutaibija by Islamic State against government and paramilitary troops deployments since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and PMUs, launched a major offensive to retake areas occupied by IS since 2014.

Federal Police announced, earlier this week, liberation of eastern Shirqat, the group’s holdout in north of Salahuddin.

225 militants had been killed since the launch of operations in Shirqat, Jawdat previously announced.

[OANN] DirecTV is offering refunds to customers who want to cancel their NFL Sunday ticket package following recent outrage over football players kneeling during the national anthem.

Maxine Waters: Trump's NFL Tweets Are an Impeachable Offense
The poor dear keeps trying to find a workable excuse to change the result of the last election.
So says Maxine Waters, esteemed certifiable Congresswoman from California, who told MSNBC, the only network whose viewers are gullible enough to believe her, that the President’s tweets denouncing anthem protests by NFL players amounted to an impeachable offense.

First of course, Mad Max finds Trump’s objections to kneeling for the national anthem to be racist.

"He’s pointing now to the NFL," she pointed out. "We know that the majority of these players are African American and we know what he is doing. We’re not tricked or fooled by him in any shape, form or fashion."

Super Sleuth Waters then made a beeline from NFL tweets to impeachment.

"Here he is strongly criticizing, you know, football players, uh, the NFL players," Maxine sputtered before concluding, "he should not be the president of the United States of America and we gotta’ get ready for impeachment."

Waters is like a WWE wrestler. Not the impressive superstar kind, athletic and truly knows the nuances of her craft.

But rather, the undercard performer who has been given one lone gimmick to run with, says their catchphrase for the crowd before the match to her fans delight, then proceeds to bore the hell out of the crowd when they realize she’s not really that good at what she does.

She’s the Doink the Clown of Congress.

Waters WWE gimmick and catchphrase ‐ Impeach 45!

She’ll say it here, she’ll say it there ... she’ll say it anywhere.

#7  Sent to me this morning by a co-worker:

Seldom taught history. You may have already seen this. I don’t typically pass these along; however, it was interesting.

True history of slavery, and reminders of how easy it is to "revise" it. And the last comment says it all.

As maniacal as it is, it’s hard to ignore this latest leftist drool about statues and monuments.
They do not have, and do not want any perspective because it is all just political for them.

Blacks were not enslaved because they were black, but because they were available.
Slavery has existed in the world for thousands of years.
Whites enslaved whites in Europe for centuries before the first black was brought to the Western hemisphere

Asians enslaved Europeans. Asians enslaved other Asians. Africans enslaved other Africans and even today, in North Africa blacks continue to enslave other blacks. Slavery has existed since the Old Testament Biblical times.

A bit of history that is conveniently ignored; between 1500 and the 1860s at least 12 million Africans were brought to the ‘New World’ of the Americas.
Of these 12 million forced into slavery, less than 500,000 were brought to North America. The remaining 2,500,000 Africans went to South America and the Caribbean. By the mid-1600s Europeans were outnumbered by Africans in cities such as Mexico City, Havana and Lima.

A few more historical facts:
1. The first legal slave owner in American history was a black tobacco farmer named Anthony Johnson; https://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_ Johnson_(colonist)
2. North Carolina’s largest slave holder in 1860 was a black plantation owner named William Ellison; https://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/William_Ellison
3. American Indians owned thousands of black slaves;
http://www.smithsonianmag. com/history/an-ancestry-of- african-native-americans- 7986049/
4. In 1830 there were 3,775 free black people who owned 12,740 black slaves; http://www. ironbarkresources.com/slaves/ whiteslaves05.htm
5. Many black slaves were allowed to hold jobs, own businesses and own real estate;
6. Brutal black on black slavery was common in Africa for thousands of years; https://townhall.com/ columnists/michaelmedved/2007/ 09/26/six-inconvenient-truths- about-the-us-and-slavery- n876052
7. Most slaves brought from Africa to America were purchased from black slave owners; http://www. digitalhistory.uh.edu/disp_ textbook.cfm?smtid=2&psid=445
8. White people ended legal chattel slavery; This is a useless fact. Since black slaves couldn’t vote and had no rights, it would have been impossible for them to end slavery.
And turning to the present:
1. Barack Obama, who has stoked the fires of racial hatred for the last eight years, is the direct paternal descendant of slave owners;
2. You certainly won't hear CNN's Anderson Cooper mentioning Obama's sordid family history, lest Obama might remind Cooper, the son of heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, that his family also was slave owners;
3. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who found some Lee and Jackson statues to remove from the Empire State, seems to have forgotten New York is named for one of the most notorious slave traders in history, the Duke of York. Better tear down that Big Apple, Andy.
4. Before defacing and tearing down statues became the latest Leftist fad, Virginia's carpet-bagging Clintonista, Gov. Terry McAuliffe, characterized the Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson statues on Richmond's Monument Avenue as "parts of our heritage." After Charlottesville, McAuliffe re-characterized them as "flash points for hatred, division and violence."
5. "Blacks who were never slaves are fighting whites who were never Nazis over a Confederate statue erected by southern Democrats because now Democrats can't stand their own history anymore......yet somehow, it's Trumps fault!"

Ajdabiya moves to end vigilante revenge attacks on property
[Libya Herald] Top officials in Ajdabiya, in a meeting with Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
commander Wanis Bukhamada, have condemned attacks by vigilante squads on homes belonging to alleged gunnies or those considered linked to them.

The move follows the destruction of the home of former mayor Salam Jadhran and those of other members of the Jadhran family. These have been attacked, burgled and then set on fire. The homes of a number of members of the Islamist-leaning Ajdabiya Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council, have also been attacked and their families forced to flee ‐ in the case of shoura council member Ebraik al-Zwai, known as Masriya, the house was reported to have been blown up after it was robbed.

In a statement issued on Monday, following discussions with Bukhamada, senior Ajdabiya police and army officers as well as the acting mayor said there had to be an end to such Dire Revenge attacks. Insisting that the families of suspects should not be forced to flee, they set up a committee to investigate everyone in the town accused of collaborating with the gunnies over the past three years. The committee is to also ensure that the properties of the accused are in future protected.

Trump plans to slash tax for US corporations
[Iran Press TV] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will unveil a proposal to cut personal and corporate taxes by at least $5 trillion over 10 years, under a sweeping White House and Congressional plan that aims to slash the corporate tax rate by 15 percent, one of the lowest rates in the industrial world.

The corporate tax rate would be cut from its present 35 percent ‐ a level that US companies say hurts them in the global market.

The average top corporate tax rate worldwide is 22.5 percent. The new proposed US rate is below La Belle France’s 34 percent, Australia’s 30 percent and Japan’s 23 percent.

Still, the 20 percent corporate tax rate is short of the 15 percent Trump promised as a candidate and advocated for since reaching office.

But the tax cuts still represent a bigger win for companies than some skeptical executives had anticipated.

China-Japan-Koreas
China opposed to military settlement of Korea dispute
[Iran Press TV] China has once again warned against the potential use of military action to resolve a conflict involving North Korea’s nuclear program, saying the dispute should solely be settled through peaceful means.

"We have always believed that military means should not be an option to resolve the nuclear issue on the peninsula. Because arms cannot resolve the differences and can only cause a bigger disaster. No side can accept this," Chinese Foreign Ministry front man Lu Kang said at a daily news briefing on Wednesday.

China is concerned that an ongoing war of words between the United States and North Korea, which was escalated after the North carried out its sixth and most powerful nuclear test earlier this month, could spark a full-fledged confrontation in the region.

North Korea has warned that it could target the mainland US with its intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). Pyongyang also claims that it has mastered the technology to fit its powerful nuclear weapons on the missiles. The threats came after the US and allies piled more economic pressure on North Korea after it successfully test-fired two ICBMs in July. US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
even warned of "fire ad fury like the world has never seen." The two sides have continued to threaten each other, creating fears that a miscalculation could lead to action with untold ramifications.

Russia, US agree to create 1st lunar space station
[Iran Press TV] As part of a long-term venture to send humans to Mars, the US and Russia have agreed to team up to build a crewed spaceport called Deep Space Gateway in lunar orbit.

"The partners intend to develop international technical standards which will be used later, in particular to create a space station in lunar orbit," the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, said in a statement on Wednesday, after the signing of an agreement at an astronautical congress in Adelaide, Australia.

The Russians and Americans would cooperate to build the systems needed to organize scientific missions in lunar orbit and to the surface of the moon, the agency added.

In a mission statement for the project, the US space agency, NASA, also said it was "leading the next steps into deep space near the moon, where astronauts will build and begin testing the systems needed for challenging missions to deep space destinations including Mars."

"The area of space near the moon offers a true deep space environment to gain experience for human missions that push farther into the solar system, access the lunar surface for robotic missions but with the ability to return to Earth if needed in days rather than weeks or months," it added.

The first modules of the station will be completed as soon as 2024, with construction starting in 2022.

The moon ship would be open to astronauts and cosmonauts from around the world.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory, Igor and Oleg were discussing what the quickest way might be to deal with the monster...
the Roscosmos head, Igor Komarov, said the project would be open for other states, including China and India, to join.

Iraqi army rings up one dead jihadi near Annah

Annah (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi army forces killed on Tuesday an Islamic State militant inside an underground tunnel in western Anbar as preparations continue to clear the group’s havens there.

Qatari al-Obaidi, a senior commander at the tribal troops in Anbar, told Alsumaria News that the militant was hiding in an underground tunnel in the town of Annah (210 Km west of Ramadi), which Iraqi forces recaptured last Thursday.

Islamic State held Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa since 2014, when they occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them in 2015 and 2016.

Rawa (IraqiNews.com) Eleven Islamic State members, including a regional commander, were killed Tuesday in operations by Iraqi government and paramilitary troops launched preparing to clear those regions from militants.

Commando forces from the army’s 7th division, backed by Popular Mobilization Forces, killed eleven Islamic State members, including the so-called “wali” (viceroy) in an assault on the outskirts of Rawa, one of the group’s last two strongholds in western Anbar, according to Alghad Press.

The offensive also destroyed five rest houses used by the militants, according to sources talking with the website.

Iraqi security forces smoke 20 ISIS Bad Guys near Ramadi

Ramadi (IraqiNews.com) Anbar security forces killed 20 Islamic State militants on Wednesday after brief encounters flared when group members invaded areas in the west and south of Ramadi.

Security declared a curfew in Ramadi earlier on Wednesday at al-Tash and the 5th Kilometer regions, south and west of Ramadi, with army and police forces putting the militants under siege there, Alsumaria reported.

Baghdad Today said the militants did take over al-Tash and al-Jamea (university) areas after invading them with 20 pickup trucks. The website added that the militants are currently holding civilians there.

Alsumaria quoted a commander in Anbar police service saying troops retook the two areas and killed 20 militants.

Government and tribal forces recaptured Ramadi from the Islamic State in December 2015, but have since then countered occasional attacks by the group and stopped booby-trapped vehicles at its checkpoints.

Islamic State is currently holding the towns of Rawa and Qaim on Anbar’s western borders with Syria as its last two strongholds in the province. Iraqi forces and tribal troops recaptured the town of Annah last Thursday, and are currently preparing for an offensive on Rawa.

Parallel operations are running to retake Islamic State-held town of Hawija in southwestern Kirkuk. U.S.-backed campaigns since October 2016 have so far liberated Mosul, IS’s former capital, and the town of Tal Afar, both in Nineveh.

GOP senator: Russian trolls using NFL spat to 'push divisiveness' in US

That's the senator from my state of Oklahoma. A round of applause. Isn't he great?
[The Hill] A Republican senator said Wednesday that Russian trolls are taking advantage of the spat between President Trump and NFL players who protest during the national anthem to "push divisiveness" in the United States.

Sen. James Lankford (Okla.) said trolls are "taking both sides of the argument" by employing hashtags such as "#TakeAKnee" and "#BoycottNFL" on social media.

"They were taking both sides of the argument this past weekend and pushing them out from their troll farms as much as they could to try to just raise the noise level in America and to make a big issue seem like an even bigger issue as they’re trying to push divisiveness in the country," Lankford said during a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

"We’ve continued to be able to see that. We will see that again in our election time."

Moscow's efforts at hacking the 2016 elections allegedly included influence campaigns on social media, and officials from Facebook and Google were on Wednesday invited to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee as it probes last year's meddling.

#3  Lankford claimed his version of the Dream Act would ban chain migration when the bill in fact lets them get green cards, which leads to citizenship after 5 years of residency, and the aforementioned chain migration. Unfortunately, Lankford cannot be primaried until 2022.

Mr. Lankford is co-sponsoring the Succeed Act with Sen. Thom Tillis, North Carolina Republican, that creates a pathway to legalization for DACA recipients, but doesn’t allow for so-called “chain migration.” The bill would not allow green-card holders to petition close family members to help with permanent residency, but it does allow those protected under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) to obtain citizenship if they remain in good standing.

Iraq
Iraqi government given mandate to deploy troops to disputed Kirkuk
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Council of Representatives of Iraq has given Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi a mandate to deploy troops to the disputed city of Kirkuk and its oil fields, as reported by Iraqi state media.

Kirkuk, the fifth-biggest city in Iraq and capital of the oil-rich Kirkuk Governorate, is not officially part of Iraqi Kurdistan, but is under control of Kurdish military forces. On August 29, Kurdish representatives of the Kirkuk Provincial Council voted in favour of participating in the Kurdish referendum, in a vote that was boycotted by Arab and Turkmen Council members.

The call to deploy armed forces to Kirkuk comes as a result of the September 25 referendum on Kurdish secession that, according to Iraqi Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, resulted in a victory for the separatist camp.

However, the vote itself and its results have been deemed illegal and unconstitutional by Iraqi authorities. Prime Minister Abad has on Wednesday repeated his ultimatum to the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), stating the KRG had to relinquish control over all airports in the areas under its control, or face a total ban on direct international flights.

“We won’t have a dialogue about the referendum outcome (…) If they want to start talks, they must cancel the referendum and its outcome.”, Abadi said in his Wednesday speech to parliament.

The regional KRG ministry of Transport has however already refused these demands, stating that they need the airports in order to combat ISIS forces in the region.

The official call by parliament to deploy troops to the city of Kirkuk marks another increase in tension between Baghdad and the KRG. On Tuesday, Iraqi and Turkish troops hosted joint military exercises near the Iraqi Kurdish regional border, in an apparent show of force towards Kurdish separatists.

Barzani delivers ‘victory’ speech following ‘yes’ victory in Kurdistan referendum
[ALMASDARNEWS] President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani hailed the victory for the ’yes’ vote in the Kurdish independence referendum, from Erbil on Tuesday.

"Sisters and brothers, what day is greater and more precious than the day when you see the success of the willing of your nation for deciding its own destiny?" asked the leader.

Barstani dedicated the referendum to "Our great leaders and thousands of brave generations were excited to see this day, but they were martyred just for the sake of it," promising to "send their souls our regards and promise our loyalty to them."

Following the plebiscite, Barstani has called for dialogue with Baghdad to discuss independence, an action these oppose.

The independence referendum took place on 25 September, with initial results indicating an overwhelming "yes" vote for independence; it would draw strong criticism and opposition from Iran and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....

Afghanistan
1 dead in ongoing rocket attacks in Kabul
A mighty whiff by the Taliban
At least one civilian has been killed and four wounded in a string of rocket attacks on the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul city center on Wednesday.

The attack started shortly after 11am and at least two explosions were heard at about 2.30pm followed by a much bigger one about 15 minutes.

Reports indicated that anywhere between 30 and 40 explosions had been heard in the vicinity over a three hour period.

Airport officials have said all flights into Kabul have been diverted and flights out of the city have been cancelled until further notice.

However, the officials said no damage has been caused to the runway but that it is being cleared of shrapnel.

The ministry of interior confirmed that at least one civilian has been killed.

The ministry’s spokesman Najibn Danish said the rockets were fired from two locations, one in Qala-e-Mir Abbas area of PD9 and the other in Paktia Kot area, also in PD9.

Crisis Response Units have reportedly surrounded one of the locations where at least three insurgents are believed to be hiding.

“One of the rockets was launched in Paktia Kot area in a civilian house which killed one civilian and injured four others,” Danish said.

“The special forces have surrounded the house where three insurgents are hiding.”

Danish said insurgents are using RPGs and mortars, he said.
However, he did not provide further details.

This attack was launched just hours after US Secretary of Defense James Mattis and NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Kabul on Wednesday.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said the target had been Mattis.

Africa Horn
Fighting in Sabratha dials back a notch or two
[Libya Herald] Clashes continued today in Sabratha, 80 kilometres west of Tripoli, between the Anti-IS Operations Room and the 48th Battalion although the intensity of fighting was much reduced according to an official in the town who asked not to be identified. Occasional firing of both small and heavy weapons could be heard, he said, but no deaths or serious injuries had been reported among either the combatants or the civilian population. The town remained tense, however, he explained.

He claimed that the Operations Room had gained the upper hand so far in the fighting – a claim denied by Ahmed Dabashi, the head of the local Amu brigade which overlaps with the 48th; many members of the former are also members of the latter and thereby receive an official salary. However, this evening there were unconfirmed reports that the operations room had taken Sabratha hospital.

During the day there were also reports of a supposedly Wirshefani pro-LNA force, dispatched to Sabratha to reinforce the operations room, being attacked by Gharyan brigades northeast of Gharyan and forced to retreat. However, the Sabratha source disputed this, saying that no outside forces had been heading to the town.

The conflict is increasingly presented as a clash between an operations room that is pro-LNA and the 48th that is Islamist and backed by the Presidency Council. During the day, radical and controversial cleric Sadek Al-Ghariani reinforced this, accusing the operations room of planning to annihilate the revolutionaries in Sabratha, and the LNA of planningto destroy the town itself as they had done to Benghazi.

Ahmed Dabashi, however, has indicated that money rather than ideology is the real reason for the divide. He is reported saying that while he, a former smuggler, was now opposed to smuggling, members of the operations room wanted to keep it going.

NFL sponsor pulls ads
[BB4SP] The NFL purposefully choosing “Gold Star Mothers Day” to have their own protest that is the most hateful, vile, disrespectful action, I have ever seen in my lifetime. All my respect and admiration goes to Allan Jones.

Hardwick Clothing is America’s oldest suit maker.

In his statement, Jones said, “Our companies will not condone unpatriotic behavior!”

The Times Free Press reported: Two years ago, Cleveland, Tenn., businessman Allan Jones was proudly showing off his newly acquired Hardwick Clothing-brand suits by providing the wardrobe for NBC’s on-air talent during the network’s broadcasts of NFL football games.

But after NFL players and coaches challenged President Donald Trump and many took a knee during the national anthem played before their games over the weekend, Jones said he is through sponsoring the wardrobes or advertising on stations that air the National Football League.

Jones, CEO of the payday lending chain Check Into Cash and owner of Hardwick Clothes — America’s oldest suit maker — tweeted his criticism and change of heart Tuesday.

India-Pakistan
Don't blame Pakistan, Haqqanis were your 'darlings' at one time: Asif tells US
[DAWN] Pakistain refuses to take the blame for the Haqqani Network and other alleged bad boy outfits, reminding the United States that these 'terrorists' were considered the 'darlings' of the White House up until a few decades ago.
A few decades is a lifetime in international relations. Amd they've been ISI 'darlings' ever since.
Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, who is attending the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, made remarks to this end at the Asia Society forum on Tuesday.

"Don't blame us for the Haqqanis [the Haqqani Network] and don't blame us for the Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
s [referring to the head of banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
]. These were the people who were your darlings just 20 to 30 years back. They were being dined and wined in the White House and now you say 'go to hell Paks because you are nurturing these people'."
That is a full generation ago. Why did Pakistan wine and dine them ever since?
Further clarifying Islamabad's position, Asif said: "It is very easy to say Pakistain is floating the Haqqanis and Hafiz Saeed and Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
. They are liabilities. I accept that they are liabilities, but give us time to get rid of them because we don't have the assets to match these liabilities and you are increasing them [our liabilities] further."
My dear Mr. Asif, you have had a generation to deal with this problem. You have not only not dealt with it, you have deliberately made it considerably worse.
He said that Pakistain is ready to work with the United States for effective management of the Afghan border to stop terrorist infiltration and to facilitate a peace settlement in Afghanistan.

In the past, the US has accused Pakistain of not taking significant action against the Haqqani Network. Washington claims the bad boy outfit has been operating out of "Pakistain-based safe havens" to threaten US and Afghan forces in Afghanistan.

North Korea could show 'super response' to Trump threats
[Iran Press TV] A North Korean official says Pyongyang will "show a super response" to recent threats made by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
In an exclusive interview with Press TV on Wednesday, Paek Hyon Chol, the vice general director of the North Korean Foreign Ministry's Asian affairs, said his country was determined to react to Trump's threats against North Korea’s illusory sovereignty.

Trump threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea if necessary during his first speech at the United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
General Assembly on September 19. North Korea has said that his remarks constituted a declaration of war against Pyongyang.

Paek told the Press TV correspondent that Pyongyang's response to what he called the US declaration of war would amount to his country’s contribution to regional peace.

The official said Washington was in no position to talk about negotiations, while it is conducting "nuclear exercises near the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) borders."

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis recently said the United States sought to solve the Korea crisis "diplomatically."

"We continue to maintain the diplomatically-led efforts in the United Nations," Mattis told news hounds during a visit to India on Tuesday.

Iraq
Turkey says air force kills 13 in north Iraq air strike
[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish jets struck a target in northern Iraq on Wednesday, killing 13 suspected Kurdish PKK fighters, the armed forces said in a statement.

"In an air strike in northern Iraq, 13 armed members of a separatist terrorist organization preparing for an attack were neutralized," the statement said, using a term which The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
uses to describe Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Death Eaters.

The PKK has been waging an insurgency in Turkey's mainly Kurdish southeast since the 1980s, but also has bases across the border in northern Iraq which Turkey regularly targets.

Ottoman Turkish troops are also conducting a joint military exercise with Iraqi soldiers near their border after Monday's referendum for Kurdish independence in northern Iraq, which has angered both Ankara and Baghdad.

Turkey fears the referendum, which was overwhelmingly approved, could fuel support for separatism in its southeastern region, and has threatened economic and military measures in response.

Putin on Wednesday described the destruction of the chemical stockpile, which was carried out before the initial deadline, as "a historic event," stressing it was "a huge step towards making the modern world more balanced and safe."

"Russia strictly complies with its international obligations, including those related to non-proliferation and reductions of weapons of mass destruction," he said in televised remarks broadcast by the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
Putin also criticized the United States for not following Russia’s suit, saying Washington had put off doing so three times citing a lack of financial resources, which the Russian leader said "looked a little bit strange."

40 jihadists killed as ISIS counteroffensive in Raqqa goes far from plan
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Tuesday, a large group of ISIS fighters posing as refugees managed to infiltrate the Kurdish-held village of Samra some three kilometers east of Raqqa city itself.

Once the camouflaged ISIS Lions of Islam opened fire upon Kurdish checkpoints in the village, heavy firefights broke out between the warring parties after which the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) rushed reinforcements to the village.

Despite skirmishes lasting several hours, the entire group of ISIS turbans was eventually annihilated and one of their boom-mobiles neutralized in the process. Footage of the incident can be found below:

However,

as ISIS wrecked havoc inside Samra in an apparent suicide mission, the SDF sustained upwards of 40 casualties.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
fresh festivities erupted in the Mashlab, Sinaa and al-Nahdaa neighborhoods in the lovely provincial capital; new footage depicting ISIS’ side of events in the latter district can be found here:

On the other hand, the SDF said it had too killed 40 enemy combattants amid festivities in Raqqa city and on its eastern outskirts, thus matching Islamic State

Security forces map Har Adar terrorist’s home for demolition
[IsraelTimes] Troops dismantle mourning tent in Paleostinian assailant's village as part of operations in wake of attack in which 3 Israelis killed

Israeli security forces early Wednesday mapped the home of a terrorist who on Tuesday rubbed out three Israeli guards at Har Adar ahead of its demolition.

In addition to mapping Nimer Mahmoud Ahmad Jamal’s home in the Paleostinian village of Bayt Surik, security forces dismantled a mourning tent for him, and also jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a number of his family members, the Israel Defense Forces said.

It was not immediately clear which family members were arrested. On Tuesday the IDF and Border Police arrested two of Jamal’s brothers after sealing off Bayt Surik. Reports in Paleostinian media said Jamal’s father was also arrested.

The IDF said that during the overnight operation in Bayt Surik and Biddu, both of which are near Har Adar, security forces confiscated "terror money" and carried out searches for illegal weapons.

The army also said that in the wake of the attack, "forces will continue to operate in the area in order to prevent terror, and maintain safety and order alongside security and quality of life."

During the attack, 37-year-old Jamal took a pistol out of his shirt and shot at a group of security officers who were opening the back gates of Har Adar to Paleostinian laborers. One border police officer, Solomon Gavriyah, 20, and two private security guards ‐ Youssef Ottman, 25, of the nearby Arab Israeli community of Abu Ghosh, and Or Arish, 25, of Har Adar ‐ were killed in the attack. All three were buried later in the day.

In response to the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel would demolish Jamal’s home and rescind the work permits held by his relatives, while Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu party said it would revive a bill that would apply the death penalty to convicted terrorists.

In the overnight raids, security forces also confiscated thousands of shekels of "terror money" near Qalqilya and the Jenin refugee camp, the IDF said.

The army said 15 suspects were arrested throughout the West Bank, including three for "popular terrorism," a catchall term used by security forces to denote violent rioting such as rock throwing and tire burning.

The IDF also said the entirety of Hebron’s Tomb of the Patriarchs was opened to Jewish visitors and that some 10,000 Jews, among them Israel’s chief rabbis, visited the holy site for pre-Yom Kippur overnight services. The Tomb of the Patriarchs, which is considered holy in both Judaism and Islam, has been divided between Jewish and Moslem worshipers since 1994, when an American-born Jewish hard boy shot and killed 29 Paleostinian worshipers.

In addition, the army said it escorted Jewish worshipers to the Shalom Al Yisrael synagogue in the Paleostinian city of Jericho, during which Paleostinians threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at security forces. The IDF said one Paleostinian was lightly injured when security forces responded with fire.

After deadly shooting, IDF seals off hometown of Har Adar terrorist

[IsraelTimes] Troops deployed to area around settlement where a Paleostinian rubbed out 3 security officers.

The IDF imposed a closure on the West Bank village of Bayt Surik on Tuesday after one of its residents shot and killed three Israeli security officers earlier in the day at the neighboring Har Adar settlement.

According to the military, residents of the Paleostinian village can enter it freely, but will "only be allowed out in humanitarian cases."

Wife of Har Adar terrorist left him weeks before shooting

[IsraelTimes] In final message to mother of his children, Nimer Jamal said she was 'good' and admitted to being a bad husband.

Nimer Mahmoud Ahmad Jamal, the 37-year-old Paleostinian who shot to death three Israelis and injured another at the entrance to the settlement of Har Adar outside Jerusalem Tuesday, was recently left by his wife, likely due to domestic violence, and left her a final message before carrying out the attack.

Jamal, who was from the neighboring village of Bayt Surik, was a father of four young children and held a license to work in Israeli settlements. That set him apart from the typical profile of Paleostinian attackers, who are generally young, unmarried men.

In his final message to his wife, which was released after the attack by the Israeli army, Jamal, who had worked for years as a house cleaner in Har Adar, mourned her departure and said he had been a terrible husband to her.

"When you wake up in the morning, share this message on my page. Let your conscience rest. You were a good wife, Umm Baha [mother of Baha], and a compassionate mother and I was the one who behaved badly," he wrote.

He added: "I say this in full awareness: my wife had nothing to do with what will happen tomorrow."

He finished his message by asking for her forgiveness and for her to raise the children.

Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency said Jamal’s wife fled to Jordan several weeks ago.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that he had significant personal and family problems, including those regarding family violence. His wife fled to Jordan several weeks ago and left him with their children," the statement said.

In tit-for-tat move, Libya's Tobruk-based govt. bans US citizens entry
[Iran Press TV] The Libyan government based in the eastern city of Tobruk has announced that it would deny entry to American citizens in a tit-for-tat move after the administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
put Libya on a new list of countries targeted by Washington's travel ban.

Libya currently has two governments: one based in the capital Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, and the other based in Tobruk.

The Tobruk-based government, headed by Abdullah al-Thinni, is aligned with military commander Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
and is opposed to the Tripoli-based, internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA).

The eastern-based government said on Wednesday that the ban was in response to "a dangerous escalation that targets Libyan citizens and puts them in the same basket as the Lions of Islam against whom our... armed forces are fighting."

It was not clear when or how the Libyan ban would be enforced.

Based on the latest proclamation signed by Trump on Sunday, citizens of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
will face new restrictions in traveling to the United States.

Europe
German reckoning
[DAWN] FOR the first time in many a decade, the far right will have a vocal presence in Germany’s parliament, after Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) exceeded expectations in last Sunday’s elections by winning almost 13 per cent of the popular vote, which entitles it to 88 seats in the Bundestag.

The centrist parties ‐ Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
’s Christian Democrats (CDU) alongside their Bavarian sister party, the somewhat more conservative CSU, as well as the Social Democrats (SPD) ‐ mustered their lowest shares of the vote since the 1940s. Jointly, their parliamentary representation is more than enough to carry on governing the country as a ’grand coalition’, but the SPD has opted out of maintaining the trend.

Its primary motivation may be self-centred, insofar as it hopes greater ’product differentiation’ could improve the party’s chances of reviving its fortunes, but the move will have the decidedly positive side-effect of denying the AfD the right to claim the mantle of the largest opposition party.

It poses a challenge, though, for Angela Merkel, whose status as chancellor remains unchallenged, but who is now obliged to forge a new coalition. With 33pc of the vote, the CDU/CSU alliance will need to co-opt two of the smaller parties in order to obtain a working majority. The only feasible option in this respect is a ’Jamaican coalition’, wedding the CDU/CSU’s black insignia to the yellow of the classically liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP), which returns to the Bundestag after dropping below the 5pc threshold in 2013, and the natural colour of the Greens.

IDF believes Hamas focusing tunnels more on defense than attack
[IsraelTimes] Army sees Gazoo-based terror group changing tack, as Israel steps up work on underground barrier

Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", appears to be changing its tunnel strategy, shifting from a focus on border-crossing attack routes to more internal defense structures, as Israel steps up work on its underground barrier surrounding the Gazoo Strip, according to IDF assessments on Wednesday.

The terrorist organization used its network of cross-border tunnels most extensively during the 2014 Gazoo war, sending fighters through them into Israel to attack nearby soldiers.

In 2006, one such tunnel was used to kidnap IDF soldier Gilad Shalit into Gazoo, where he was held captive for five years, before being released as part of a hotly contested prisoner exchange, in which over 1,000 Paleostinian faceless myrmidons were also set free.

In July 2014, Israel launched Operation Protective Edge in response to rocket fire from Gazoo. During the 50-day campaign, the IDF destroyed some 14 tunnels that entered Israeli territory, along with 18 internal tunnels, and depleted Hamas’s weapons stores.

While there were no attacks on civilians through these tunnels during the 2014 war, the concern in Israel is that one day Hamas will send dozens of fighters through them in order to attack a nearby community and either kill residents or take them hostage.

To counter that threat, earlier this summer Israel started construction on an underground barrier that is designed to destroy any tunnels that are currently in place and prevent the creation of new ones.

According to the military, Hamas has instead shifted its focus to improving and expanding its network of tunnels within Gazoo, which can be used to ferry fighters and weaponry across the Strip, out of sight from Israeli surveillance.

In addition, the terrorist organization, which is already believed to have replenished its arsenal of rockets and mortars, is seen to be increasing its attempts to import additional weaponry into the Strip from Sinai.

Though the humanitarian situation in the Strip has improved to a certain degree, as opposed to earlier this summer when it was on the brink of losing nearly all access to electricity, the military still sees the coastal enclave as volatile.

The work on the 37-mile (60-kilometer) barrier began in earnest earlier this summer, and Head of the Southern Command Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir said it would be completed within two years. It will feature an advanced underground protection system that extends dozens of meters below the ground ‐ the army would not specify the depth ‐ in order to detect and destroy tunnels that attempt to penetrate into Israeli territory, as well as an above-ground metal fence adorned with sensors.

The Defense Ministry will also bulk up the defense along the Gazoo coast, putting up breakwaters and other protective measures in order to prevent infiltration into Israel from the sea, as occurred during the 2014 Gazoo war.

The project is expected to cost approximately NIS 3 billion ($833 million), with each kilometer of the underground portion of the barrier costing approximately NIS 41.5 million ($11.5 million). The above-ground fence is significantly cheaper at just NIS 1.5 million ($416,000) per kilometer.

In order to speed up construction, concrete factories were built next to the Gazoo Strip.

Currently, dozens of construction workers and engineering specialists from around the world are working on the project, at a few different sites, in order to fine-tune their operating methods. They wear flak jackets and are guarded by IDF soldiers.

By the year’s end, over 1,000 people, both Israelis and migrant workers, will be operating on the border barrier in approximately 40 locations.

International-UN-NGOs
150 companies said to get letters from UN threatening to add them to blacklist
[IsraelTimes] Human Rights Council asks for response from West Bank settlement-friendly firms as some businesses say they won't renew contracts

The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
reportedly sent letters to some 150 Israeli and overseas companies, threatening to add them to its blacklist of firms operating in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

Senior anonymous Israeli officials told the Haaretz daily on Wednesday that UN human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein sent the letters two weeks ago. Several of the companies reportedly replied to Hussein that they do not plan to renew existing contracts or to sign new ones.

The officials said that Hussein wrote in the letter ‐ copies of which had been seen by the government ‐ that due to their activities in the "occupied Paleostinian territories" they may be added to the blacklist being compiled by the UN of companies "that operate in opposition to international law and in opposition of UN resolutions."

An unnamed western diplomat told Haaretz that more than half of the companies that received the warning letter were Israeli, about 30 were from the US and the remainder from countries including Germany, Norway and South Korea. The diplomat added that Hussein also sent copies of the letter to foreign ministries of several countries who are home to companies which may be added to the blacklist.

Earlier this month Channel 2 reported that among those on the UN Human Rights Council list are Coca-Cola, TripAdvisor, Airbnb and Caterpillar.

Israeli companies on the list reportedly include pharmaceutical giant Teva, the national phone company Bezeq, bus company Egged, the national water company Mekorot and the country’s two largest banks, Hapoalim and Leumi.

The US has threatened to withdraw from the international forum if the list is published.

Last year, the UN body voted to compile a database of all business enterprises that have enabled or profited from the growth of Israeli settlements in areas Paleostinians see as part of their future state. The resolution passed with 32 nations voting in favor and 15 abstentions.

The proposal, put forward by the Paleostinian Authority and Arab states in 2016, included a condemnation of settlements and called on companies not to do business with Israeli settlements.

In June, the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley
...first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
, condemned the blacklist as "the latest in this long line of shameful actions" taken by the UNHRC. Haley went on to warn that the US could withdraw from the 47-member body unless it reformed, ending its built-in procedural mechanism to condemn Israel, and banning notorious human rights violators from serving on the council.

Since 2007, Israel has been the only country whose alleged human rights abuses are regularly discussed in the framework of a single permanent item on the Human Rights Council’s agenda.

Murky circumstances surround 'suicide' of teenage girl in Chitral
[DAWN] Chitral police on Wednesday incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
four local teenagers believed to be involved in the death of a teenage girl under mysterious circumstances.

The girl, a student of Grade 9, had allegedly did away with himself earlier this month by jumping into the Chitral River near Awi village, which is located over 85 kilometres north of the district headquarters of Chitral town, police told Dawn.com.

An official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that the teenage girl had eloped with a boy prior to her death.

The key accused, a student of Grade 10, and a friend of his had picked up the girl from her house in the Mandagh area of Awi on a cycle of violence at night, officials added.

He said that police believed the girl might have been gang-raped by the boy and his friends before she took her life.

A police official said the girl’s body was recovered from the Chitral River near Booni town the next day.

The body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Chitral, where doctors conducted a postmortem examination, officials said.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered by the police against four boys ‐ including the two who had picked up the girl from her house ‐ under Sections 302, 365b and 24 of the Pakistain Penal Code, police said

The four were later arrested and two motorbikes belonging to them were impounded.

Initial police investigations suggested that the girl had been interested in marrying the main accused. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
when he refused, she took her life by jumping into the river.

The main accused, whom police arrested after obtaining the girl’s phone records, confessed that they had met on the night she eloped, but claimed she had later returned home.

But police officials also said that they had found the victim's shirt, torn from one side to another, in a house in the same locality.

Locals alleged that the group of teenagers had torn the girl's clothes and gang-raped her through the night.

Locals are also blaming a local provincial politician of using his influence to save the arrested young men and trying to settle the case out of court.

Russian airstrikes in Idlib leave 6 dead
Idlib (Syrian News) Local sources informed that Russian aircraft carried out air strikes, on Wednesday, on the Christian-majority Qaina and Yaqobia Villages, in the western countryside of Idlib, Qasioun News reported.

The sources revealed that the two villages are Christian-majority, while pointed out that the air strikes were conducted on a church in one of the villages, killing a Christian child and injuring 5 others.

Meanwhile, other Russian air strikes were carried out on the areas of Bedama, Bashiria, Shatbarq, Sarmanya, Haloz, Ghasanya and Sad Al-Shaghr, in western Idlib, but no casualties were reported.

It is noteworthy that the Christian-majority village of Yaqobia witnessed a significant displacement movement since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011; however, several families stayed in the village despite the consequences of the Syrian war in the area.

Russia has supported the government of Syria since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, and started its military intervention in the country after an official request by the Syrian government for military aid against rebel and jihadist groups.
