Clinton campaign, DNC paid for research that led to Russia dossier
[WAPO] The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about Donald Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, people familiar with the matter said.

Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.

After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to the people.

Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the firm in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Prior to that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC through the law firm continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

#3  Two major elements in this story of deep corruption: a) this was the basis for the approach to the FISA court in order to spy on Trump's campaign; and b) the FBI participated in financing the "research" after Clinton and the DNC had gotten it going.

One question: could Comey have attempted to use that "dossier" to embarrass/blackmail Trump?

Another question: the GPS dossier had a pre-Russia phase, paid by some GOPe character(s). Was it Bush or McCain? Where did Jeb's 100 campaign million go? Trump's recent warning to McCain, about fighting back, may not be innocuous, at this time.

Bonus question: given Mueller role in the Uranium One cover-up, does he feel he could now exonerate himself by pursuing Clinton-Obama-DNC corruption?

Kaepernick Lands Million Dollar Book Deal
Spoiler alert - it does not look like it's a coloring book...
Colin Kaepernick has inked a book deal worth just over $1 million with Random House imprint One World, Page Six has exclusively learned.

One World’s headed by book world superstar Chris Jackson, who also publishes Jay-Z and Ta-Nehisi Coates. He launched One World last year.

Ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick launched the current movement of NFL players protesting during the national anthem, and he’s recently filed a controversial collusion grievance against league owners. He’s still looking for a job in the NFL after opting out of his 49ers contract earlier this year.

BREAKING: Gowdy Opens Investigation Into DOJ's Exoneration of Hillary Clinton, 2016 Decisions
House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte announced Tuesday morning they have officially opened a joint investigation into decisions made at the Obama Justice Department surrounding the FBI's criminal investigation into former Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. They also want to know why the FBI kept quiet about ongoing investigations into members of the Trump campaign, like Paul Manafort, while publicly discussing the Clinton probe.

"Our justice system is represented by a blind-folded woman holding a set of scales. Those scales do not tip to the right or the left; they do not recognize wealth, power, or social status. The impartiality of our justice system is the bedrock of our republic and our fellow citizens must have confidence in its objectivity, independence, and evenhandedness. The law is the most equalizing force in this country. No entity or individual is exempt from oversight," Gowdy and Goodlatte released in a statement. "Decisions made by the Department of Justice in 2016 have led to a host of outstanding questions that must be answered."

The Committees will investigate the following:

-FBI's decision to publicly announce the investigation into Secretary Clinton's handling of classified information but not to publicly announce the investigation into campaign associates of then-candidate Donald Trump;
-FBI's decision to notify Congress by formal letter of the status of the investigation both in October and November of 2016;
-FBI's decision to appropriate full decision making in respect to charging or not charging Secretary Clinton to the -FBI rather than the DOJ; and
-FBI's timeline in respect to charging decisions.
"The Committees will review these decisions and others to better understand the reasoning behind how certain conclusions were drawn. Congress has a constitutional duty to preserve the integrity of our justice system by ensuring transparency and accountability of actions taken," the statement continues.

The Department of Justice and FBI have come under extra scrutiny in recent months after it was revealed former FBI Director James Comey drafted a letter exonerating Clinton long before agents were finished with their investigation. The letter was also drafted before Clinton and her top aides were interviewed for the case.

Comey was fired in May after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded he had usurped his authority by publicly announcing Clinton's exoneration.

Park Service Cancels Funding for Project ‘Honoring Legacy' of Black Panther Party
[Free Beacon] The National Park Service told the Washington Free Beacon it is no longer providing funding for a controversial project "honoring the legacy" of the Black Panther Party after outrage that the agency would spend taxpayer dollars to memorialize a group that murdered a park ranger in the 1970s.

The Free Beacon revealed last month that the Park Service gave roughly $100,000 to the University of California, Berkeley for a research project on the Marxist extremist group to "memorialize a history that brought meaning to lives far beyond the San Francisco Bay Area."

"Committed to truthfully honoring the legacy of [Black Panther Party] BPP activists and the San Francisco Bay Area communities they served, the project seeks to document the lives of activists and elders and the landscapes that shaped the movement," the National Park Service stated in the grant awarded for the project.

A captain in the Black Panther Party murdered National Park Service ranger Kenneth Patrick while he was on patrol near San Francisco in 1973. Patrick was shot three times by Veronza Leon Curtis Bowers Jr., who is currently serving a life sentence for first-degree murder. Patrick left behind a widow and three children.

Terror Networks
Beyond the Caliphate: Islamic State Activity Outside the Group's Defined Wilayat
[Combating Terrorism Center] Since bombs rocked Casablanca in 2003 and Marrakesh in 2011, Morocco has continually made concerted efforts to tighten its anti-terrorism laws, improve its intelligence capabilities, and address the root causes of radicalization. While Morocco has yet to see a terrorist attack by the Islamic State on its soil, future challenges loom for the government: returned foreign fighters, burgeoning jihadi cells, and increasingly complicated relationships with its counterterrorism partners in Europe and the Maghreb.

Such challenges have been highlighted in the course of recent events. In November 2015, a Belgian man of Berber-Moroccan origin was unveiled as the alleged mastermind behind the bombings that shook Paris that month, in addition to being a key member of an Islamic State cell in Brussels.

This year, catastrophic attacks in Barcelona, Spain, grabbed global headlines, and once again, it was revealed that many of the perpetrators were of Moroccan descent. Given the re-emergence of pre-existing jihadi networks in the region, the Maghreb will be simultaneously of key interest to the Islamic State and a critical piece of the puzzle for policymakers as they attempt to combat extremism.

Although no Islamic State attacks have taken place in Morocco at the time of this writing, there has been a sizable amount of activity. The following analysis employs an open source dataset of directly linked and conceptually inspired Islamic State plots and arrests in Morocco from June 2014 through June 2017.2 Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) researchers coded events as being linked to or inspired by the Islamic State only if government and/or credible media sources asserted that the Islamic State was responsible for or had inspired the event.3

Government
Government Collects $3.3 Trillion in Taxes in Fiscal Year 2017
[Free Beacon] The federal government collected approximately $3.3 trillion in taxes in fiscal year 2017, but the federal government still ran a $666 billion deficit during that time, according to the latest monthly Treasury Department statement.

Treasury receipts include tax revenue from individual income taxes, corporate income taxes, social insurance and retirement taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, customs duties, and other miscellaneous items.

The 2017 fiscal year begins on Oct. 1, 2016, and runs through Sept. 30, 2017. During this time, the amount of taxes collected by the federal government totaled $3,314,894,000,000.

Most of the $3.3 trillion that the government collected from this fiscal year came from individual income taxes, which totaled $1.59 trillion. Corporation income taxes totaled about $297 billion.

The amount of taxes collected this year was slightly lower than the amount collected last year, after adjusting for inflation. In fiscal year 2016, the federal government collected $3,266,688,000,000 in taxes, but after adjusting for inflation, that number rose to $3,339,836,430,000.

Although the federal government brought in approximately $3.3 trillion in revenue in fiscal 2017, according to the Treasury, it also spent approximately $3.98 trillion, leaving a deficit of $665,712,000,000.

Hillary Clinton's Top Aides Still Being Paid by Campaign Nearly One Year After Defeat
[Free Beacon] A number of longtime aides to failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are still being paid from her campaign committee nearly one year after her defeat, Federal Election Commission filings show.

The aides‐who have remained close to Clinton, some working with her as a private citizen‐have through the end of the third quarter collected thousands of dollars in payments from Hillary for America, Clinton's presidential campaign committee, the most recent filings show.

Huma Abedin, Clinton's longtime friend and aide who acted as vice chair of the campaign, has been paid nearly $65,000 between mid-November to the end of June. From the beginning of July until the end of September, during the third quarter, Abedin was paid a little more than $2,000, bringing her total payments to around $67,000 since the election.

Nicholas Merrill, former Hillary for America spokesman, has been paid $24,357 this year from the campaign.

Des Plaines police probe alleged lynching threat against congresswoman on Facebook
[ChicagoTribune] Police are investigating allegations that a Des Plaines man threatened to lynch U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson in a racist Facebook post.

But Tom Keevers, 54, says an anonymous "meme-maker" put words in his mouth and that he and his family are now getting death threats.

Screen grabs of a post purportedly made on Keevers’ Facebook page went viral over the weekend after they were shared nearly 4,000 times on Twitter. The alleged post is the subject of a Des Plaines police investigation, Cmdr. Chris Mierzwa said.

The alleged post, which appears to have been captured in an iPhone screen grab, targets Wilson, who has been involved in a high-profile fight with the White House since she gave a deeply unflattering account of a phone call President Donald Trump made to Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in an ambush in Niger.

It shows Keevers’ name, photo and location in Des Plaines, a photograph of Wilson and the words, "Need ten good men to help carry out a lynching. Must have own horse and saddle. Rope will be provided."

Another purported screen grab appears to show a post on Keevers’ page that states, "This congresswomen (sic) is a disgusting pig. Someone should take their boot to her face."

During a lengthy phone interview Monday, Keevers initially told Chicago Inc. that he had not threatened to lynch Wilson, but that he last week got into a "fast and furious" argument with strangers "that got out of control" on Facebook about Wilson, who he said was "using the death of an American soldier for politics." Keevers said he deleted the thread because "there was some disgusting language" in it that he didn’t like. Somebody ‐ he doesn’t know who, he said‐ later made a "meme" to dishonestly suggest he had called for Wilson’s lynching as part of a "thought-out attack," he said.

He said the alleged lynching threat was "not something that should be said" but described it as "a joke, as I read it."

"I don’t have 10 horses either," he said.

"Don’t people get in arguments on Facebook all the time?" he added.
Facebook. The cause of and solution to all of life's problems.
Later, though, Keevers said he "cannot remember" whether he threatened to lynch Wilson and that it was possible someone had taken some of his words "and made them into a meme."

Keevers then returned to his more definitive statement. "I did not use those words," he said.

He initially said several times that police had not contacted him about the post, but later, after being told by a reporter that Des Plaines police were investigating, he said a Des Plaines officer had called him simply to check on his welfare after he and his family received threats. "There is no investigation," he insisted. Mierzwa declined to respond beyond his statement that the post is being investigated.

By Monday, Keevers’ Facebook page was no longer open to public comments. Many posts insulting liberals and supporting Trump remained, however, as well as several posts about Johnson. One, a meme, read, "I really don’t mind being called a bigot, racist, close minded (sic), redneck, backwoods... heard them all by now and use (sic) to it... still better than being called a liberal."

Threatening a member of Congress is a federal crime that can carry a sentence of up to five years in prison. Asked about Keevers’ alleged post, the U.S. Capitol Police on Monday said it does "not comment on open investigations."

But Keevers told Inc. that Des Plaines police promised him there was "nothing for me to worry about."

"People threaten Donald Trump all the time and nothing happens," he said. "I don’t think a lot about what I write on Facebook."

Keevers appeared in the Tribune under happier circumstances in 2003, when the FBI honored him and two other civilians for their bravery in capturing a bank robbery suspect.

Britain
Identitarian Activists Unfurl Giant ‘Defend London, Stop Islamisation' Banner on Westminster Bridge
[Breitbart] Identitarian movement activists unveiled a large banner on Westminster Bridge Monday morning, their anti-Islamification message facing directly onto Britain’s Houses of Parliament.

The banner, which read besides the movement’s name and lambda symbol ’Defend London Stop Islamisation’, is the latest in a string of Identitarian stunts across European cities, bringing attention to the anti-mass migration cause of the group.

A statement posted to social media by the group immediately after the action explained the symbolism of the location for the stunt. The group said: "On 22 March 2017, a terrorist attack took place on Westminster Bridge. The Islamist inspired attack killed 5 people and injured more than 50.

"London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, believes that the threat of terror attacks are "part and parcel of living in a big city". On the contrary, we think that the source of islamisation lies in mass immigration, which must be stopped."

Africa Subsaharan
Tongo Tongo: Caught in a Deadly Ambush
The U.S. Special Forces team caught in a deadly ambush three weeks ago in Niger did not request help from nearby French forces for about an hour after the firefight began near a village the Americans had visited during a reconnaissance mission several hours prior, the Pentagon’s top general said Monday.

It then took the French another hour to get fighter jets over the American troops, according to a new timeline provided by Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The disclosure doubles the amount of time the U.S. troops were believed to have fought without significant additional help.

"This is a very complex situation that they found themselves in, and a pretty tough firefight," Dunford said.

#1  Something seems off. When I was at Ft. Campbell we had the 5th Special Forces Group housed next to us. Their AO was Africa and they deployed there regularly. When we shot the shit together they stated their usual role wasn't to get in firefights. If they were engaged, they usually tried to disengage if possible as they weren't armed well enough most of the time for prolonged combat. They were there to train and support, nothing more.

Seems the SF guys have a similar mission now and it makes me wonder what the fucking hell they were doing being in a firefight for a goddamn hour before calling in support. If you see you have more and heavier shit coming in than you have going out, all military guys I know would call in support. If you can't break contact, call in support.

Something isn't adding up or these guys seriously fucked up playing Rambo with the locals.

The Establishment Flunkies Flunk Out
h/t Instapundit
[Townhall] All human institutions are essentially a reboot of high school, and within the political scene the Never Trumpers are convinced that they are the cool kids despite being the chess club of American politics. No, they aren't the cool kids. They’re geeks, they haven't won a tournament in years and, more importantly, they're the freaking chess club.

In contrast, we normals are just that, the members of the student body who have lives and after-school jobs and girlfriends and who don't care about the dorks padding their resume with student body presidencies or, in this case, jobs at the Eagle Liberty Council for Freedom. Except now we normals have been forced to pay attention because the would-be in-crowd has so totally screwed things up that there's no real choice but get involved in campus activities and burn down the whole damn schoolhouse.

Trump is the torch, and the Fredocons in the chess club are panicking because when the school goes up in flames so does their identity. And their meal ticket.

But they brought it on themselves. You can’t get "F" after "F" after "F" without eventually flunking out. What have these guys achieved? The clowns they support in Congress can’t even repeal Obamacare. That’s a total no brainer, and therefore should have been right up their alley.

We normals are sick of being looked down upon and exploited by a bunch of people who, if this was a movie, would be played by James Spader ‐ except trainwreck 2017 James Spader, not louche/suave 1986 James Spader. I guess that makes Bill Kristol the Nepo-Con Duckie, if Duckie was a less-cool, backstabbing deep-state-loving weasel trying to sell Molly Ringwald a cabin on one of his crappy cruises.

In place of trying to earn respect by demonstrating competence, they’ve chosen to try to diss us into submission. George W. Bush decided to go all Mean Girls in a speech that insulted his (former) supporters while delighting the left, and therefore the Never Trumpers. Now, if you read W's speech on paper, every word of it about bigotry being bad is true. But you give speeches in context, and here the context is decades of leftists and their media poodles falsely accusing the normals of racism and bigotry. So when W adopted that language, he also knowingly or negligently adopted that narrative; the former newspaper and current brochure known as the L.A. Times crowed: "In stunning attack, George W. Bush rebukes Trump, suggesting he promotes falsehoods and prejudice."

Germany approves sale of three Thyssenkrupp submarines to Israel
[Ynet] Memorandum of understanding signed for estimated $2 billion deal; new submarines to go into service from 2027 and join six other submarines Israel has purchased from Germany in the past.

The German government has approved the sale of three Thyssenkrupp submarines to Israel and will provide financial support for the purchase, government front man Steffen Seibert told a regular news conference on Monday.

The estimated $2 billion deal is under police investigation in Israel over suspected corruption and several public officials and private citizens have been questioned in the case.

The 2016 deal has been under public scrutiny since it emerged that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's personal lawyer, David Shimron, also represented Thyssenkrup Marine System's local agent, Miki Ganor, raising concerns of a conflict of interest.

The attorney has denied wrongdoing and said he never discussed the deal with Netanyahu. Israel's justice ministry said in February that Netanyahu himself was not a suspect.

Seibert said Germany would make a contribution of up to 540 million euros to help finance Israel's purchase, noting Berlin's "historical responsibility toward the state of Israel."

Seibert said an inter-governmental memorandum of understanding approving the deal would be signed later on Monday, adding the two sides agreed not to disclose details.

Netanyahu welcome the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), noting that "The MOU is strategically important to the security of Israel. Its signing reflects the commitment of Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
to the security of Israel and the deep cooperation between the two countries."

Israel already ordered six submarines from Germany over the past two decades. The three new submarines are expected to go into service from 2027.

3 Gazans said briefly kidnapped by gunmen from Sinai
An odd little story.
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run interior ministry confirms laborers went missing on Egyptian border, but were returned 'safely' hours later

Three Gazook laborers went missing Monday morning while working in a tunnel on the Egyptian border, apparently kidnapped by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
button men, but hours later were returned home safely, Gazoo’s Hamas-run interior ministry and witnesses said.

Iyad al-Bazm, the spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed "the disappearance" of three Paleostinian workers inside a tunnel on the Paleostinian-Egyptian border, adding that the disappearance was being investigated.

One witness told AFP that a group of masked button men snatched the three and took them across the border into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The account of the witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was not confirmed by authorities.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
a few hours after going missing, Bazm released another statement saying the workers had been located on the Egyptian-Paleostinian border, "and were returned safely to Gazoo."

The Safa News Agency reported the laborers had been kidnapped from a tunnel near the Salah-a-Din gate of the Rafah border crossing into Egypt. The motive for the kidnapping was not immediately clear

Gazooks use such tunnels to smuggle goods, weapons, and fighters into and out of the Paleostinian enclave that has been under Israeli and Egyptian blockade for a decade, following Hamas’s violent 2007 takeover of the Gazoo Strip and its use of the area as a launchpad for attacks on Israel.

bully boy group faces terrorism-related charges stemming from a purported plot to bomb a Miami-area shopping mall, according to court documents filed Monday.

Vicente Adolfo Solano, 53, appeared at a brief hearing Monday afternoon on a charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction at the Dolphin Mall west of Miami. Solano was tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Friday after accepting a fake bomb provided by the FBI outside the mall, according to an FBI affidavit.
Because no terror plot is complete until the FBI is involved.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Chris McAliley said she will appoint a public defender to represent Solano, who is being held without bail. A bond hearing is set Thursday and Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Gilbert said the government wants him kept behind bars until trial as a risk of flight and danger to the community.

Solano told the judge he works as a painter earning $13 an hour. No relatives appeared at the hearing. Court records show Solano has had only minor brushes with the law, most recently in 2014 and 2015 for driving with a suspended license. That document noted he had no prior felony record.

The FBI began investigating Solano in late September after a confidential informant tipped agents off about his plans, the affidavit said. Most of the subsequent conversations were recorded. Investigators also found three pro-Islamic State videos that Solano allegedly sent to the confidential informant.

"I am here because I like the way (Islamic State) confronts the United States and the countries of the coalition," Solano allegedly said in one video, wearing a black mask and shirt and standing in front of black flag. "The United States is the most terrorist country of all. I am going to plant a bomb ... that's how it's going to be done."

In a second video, Solano said he is a "sympathizer of the Islamic group, ISIS" using another acronym for the Islamic State.

It's not clear from the affidavit whether Solano had any links to any foreign terrorist groups. At one point, he told the confidential informant he had not discussed his plot with anyone else.

His plans started to come together in October when the confidential informant introduced Solano to an undercover FBI employee who could supposedly help build a bomb. Solano provided a sketch of the food court at the mall, which he thought would be most crowded, according to the FBI.

"It's easy because look ... I go in, I sit down, I leave it and goodbye. I leave it. I won't have a problem with that," Solano said in one conversation recorded by the FBI.

After buying screws and other materials to build the bomb, Solano met with the two undercover FBI men at a hotel to put it together. Then the three of them drove over to the mall, where "Solano took steps that he believed would arm the device and the timer to count down" on the fake bomb, the affidavit said.

Keep a 'wary eye' on U.S. travel visas, Goodale tells American counterpart
Y'all elected Pretty Boy Trudeau, and isn't he just full of bright ideas.
[CBC] Ralph Goodale says some migrants colonists are obtaining U.S. travel visas for the sole purpose of coming to Canada

Canada's Public Safety Minister has told his American counterpart to keep a "wary eye" on the travel visas it issues to the United States.

In an interview Sunday with CBC News, Goodale said Canadian officials have identified trends where documents issued from certain U.S. embassies and consulates are being misused.

"We have asked them to go back upstream and examine the pattern of these travel documents being issued and how come the people to whom they were issued appear to have had no intention of staying in the United States, but were simply using the documents as vehicles to get into the United States and then make a beeline for the Canadian border," Goodale explained.

While the minister refused to identify diplomatic missions that have been problematic, Nigeria is one place where people obtained visas to visit the U.S. with the intention of heading to Canada.

The minister said acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke was very receptive to the suggestion and indicated the U.S. is also looking at putting up signs at irregular crossings on its side of the border with messages to dissuade those seeking asylum in Canada.

"They're examining what they can do to communicate," Goodale said.

In a news release today about the meeting at the G7 summit of interior ministers in Ischia, Italia, the department of homeland security reported Duke and Goodale talked about "joint steps to take to address illegal migration across their shared border."

Goodale said he asked Duke to consider alerting Canadian authorities when the U.S. is about to make policy decisions that would affect the border, in order to give agencies such as border services time to prepare.

This summer, thousands of Haitians streamed into Quebec at an illegal border crossing after the United States announced it would not extend temporary protected status for Haitians who have lived in that country since the devastating 2010 earthquake.

Hamas leader’s visit to Iran defies Israeli condition on Palestinian unity
[IsraelTimes] US peace envoy slams Saleh al-Arouri for vowing not to cut ties with Tehran, says 'Paleostinians deserve so much better than this'

A top Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", official defiantly rejected Israel’s conditions for recognizing Hamas-Paleostinian Authority unity, noting that the very act he was committing ‐ an official visit to Iran ‐ went against the conditions.

"Our presence in Iran is the practical denial of the third precondition ‐ cutting ties with Iran," said Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy chief of the terrorist organization controlling the Gazoo Strip, according to Rooters, which quoted Iranian news wires.

Arouri, who was in Iran over the weekend, also committed Hamas to rejecting the other two conditions, disarming and recognizing Israel.

The Trump administration has encouraged the unity talks ‐ while also embracing Israel’s conditions ‐ seeing the Paleostinian Authority’s return to control in Gazoo as key to advancing peace talks.

"Hamas, which has only brought ruin and misery to Paleostinians, now begs Iran for help and again vows to destroy Israel," Greenblatt said. "Paleostinians deserve so much better than this. We must find a better path forward toward peace and prosperity."

Economy
President Trump Opposes any Attempt to Reduce 401(k) Contributions
[NYT] WASHINGTON ‐ President Trump said on Monday that he would oppose any effort to reduce the amount of pretax income that American workers can save in 401(k) retirement accounts, effectively killing an idea that Republicans were mulling as a way to help pay for a $1.5 trillion tax cut.

The directive, issued via Twitter, underscored a growing fear among Republicans and business lobbyists that Mr. Trump’s bully-pulpit whims could undermine the party’s best chance to pass the most sweeping rewrite of the tax code in decades.

Overhauling the tax code was never going to be easy given that it requires targeting lucrative and politically popular tax breaks to mitigate the magnitude of cuts Republicans are envisioning. Lawmakers must mitigate the revenue loss from those tax cuts in order to avoid a Democratic filibuster and pass a bill along party lines.

Movie Producer Frank DeMartini: 'Rep. Waters is prime example of what is wrong with Washington'
[FOX] Movie producer Frank DeMartini, an outspoken conservative, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to oppose 14-term Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters in California next year.

DeMartini, a 55-year-old lawyer, is a rare conservative in left-leaning Hollywood, having mounted his own Republican Hollywood website ‐ now his campaign website ‐ and written several articles for Breitbart.com. His producing credits include "Mechanic: Resurrection" with Jason Statham, "Mad Money" with Diane Keaton, Ted Danson and Katie Holmes, "Elephant White" with Kevin Bacon and "Journey to the End of the Night" with Brendan Fraser. A native New Yorker who has lived in California since 1986, he announced his candidacy to represent the 43rd Congressional District on "The Adam Carolla Show."

Waters, 79, has represented three districts in California since she was elected to the House in 1990. As the former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, she has been a liberal lighting rod against President Trump and was one of at least 70 Democratic House members who refused to attend his inauguration last January.

"Maxine is one of the prime examples of what is wrong with Washington," DeMartini told Fox News. "She has been in Congress so long she is out of touch with our community. She is out of touch with the country. She lives in a Washington bubble and it’s time for change, basically..."

"I think I am going to be the welcome change that the people in that district need. At least I can understand what is going on over there. I come from blue-collar parents. She came from them, but she has no idea what they are anymore."

Iraq PM's office rejects Tillerson's call for Iran-backed militias to ‘go home'
[RT] In a tight-lipped statement, Baghdad rejected a call by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for Iran-backed Shia militias to "go home" after the demise of Islamic State in Iraq.

Earlier on Sunday, Rex Tillerson said at a rare meeting with top Iraqi and Saudi Arabian officials that Iraq’s Shiite militias ‐ also known as Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) ‐ and their Iranian advisers need to leave Iraq as the struggle against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is nearing an end.

But Baghdad seems reluctant to go along with Washington’s request, judging by a polite but robust remark made on Monday by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s office.

"No party has the right to interfere in Iraqi matters," the statement posted on Facebook reads. It added that many PMU members were native Iraqis who made "enormous sacrifices to defend their country and the Iraqi people."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Scores of Bodies Are Found in Syrian Town After ISIS Retreats
[NYT] BEIRUT, Lebanon ‐ As pro-government troops drove Islamic State fighters from a central Syrian town over the weekend, the retreating militants killed scores of civilians, dumping some bodies into wells and leaving others in the street, local residents and the Syrian state-run news media said on Monday.

The apparent mass killing is the latest example of the brutal reprisals that have taken place when territory changes hands in Syria’s multisided war, with civilians often bearing the brunt of the pain.

The carnage showed how the Islamic State can still spread havoc even as it loses major parts of its territory that once included large areas of Syria and Iraq.

At least 67 bodies had been identified in the town, Qaryatayn, northeast of Damascus, the capital, by Monday afternoon, according to local activists who posted an online list of the victims’ names.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict, said that as many as 128 civilians had been killed in Qaryatayn in the past several weeks before the Islamic State fighters retreated.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Finally, the Missing Puzzle Piece
[American Thinker] It has always niggled me as to what the always arrogant 44th President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, actually meant when he was caught on an open microphone telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he needed more "flexibility" from the Russians. They needed to give him "space" since "it was [his] last election" but "after '[his] election, [he] would have more flexibility."

Medvedev's retort was "I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir."

While Medvedev may have understood what Obama was saying, most Americans were left quite bewildered by this cryptic message. Until now.

Enter the breathtaking information that the most intricate and shady backroom deals were happening both nationally and internationally while Congress and the American public were deliberately kept in the dark, not only by the Obama administration, but also by Obama's Department of Justice and the very same FBI officials who are now attempting to concoct a fictitious collusion story about Trump.

The Bloody End of the Islamic State's Utopian Dream
[Defense One] The fall of Raqqa this week completed the slow-motion demolition of the world’s only utopian movement worthy of the name.

The fall of Raqqa this week completed the slow-motion demolition of the world’s only utopian movement worthy of the name. Like most utopian movements, the Islamic State was barbaric and iniquitous, precisely because it held its own refinement and egalitarianism in such high regard. Assume eventual absolution by history or God, and anything goes in the meantime.

The pleasure of dancing on the Islamic State’s grave should not be denied, even if it is true, as experts remind us, that its zombified hand might yet emerge from the earth to grab our ankles as we do so. Having lost Raqqa (and before it Hawija, Tal Afar, and Mosul), it now still holds border areas between Iraq and Syria, plus isolated territory in Libya, Sinai, Afghanistan, and the southern Philippines. What it no longer controls is territory from which it can make its most important claim‐that it has built a paradise on earth, where God’s law is the only law, and Muslims can live lives that fully express their faith. It once boasted that women, children, and the elderly could live full and happy lives in Raqqa. Now an invitation to hijra‐migration to Islamic State territory‐is simply an invitation to die quickly on the field of battle.

What hasn’t received much attention, amid the celebration, is the manner in which that death has been dealt. In May, Defense Secretary James Mattis said the war against the Islamic State had shifted from a war of attrition (slip their heads into a noose, then squeeze) to a war of "annihilation" and "humiliation." He has kept his word. Although many Islamic State fighters have surrendered‐sometimes in humiliating fashion‐almost all are Syrians and Iraqis who joined the group pragmatically, and not members of the 40,000-strong contingent of foreign fighters who migrated in the supposed path of God. We haven’t yet heard stories of mass surrender by foreign fighters. One American Islamic State fighter is in custody, out of well over a hundred known to have traveled to the battlefield. The desert plains of eastern Syria are strewn with the corpses of most of the others, I suspect, along with French, Tunisian, and Chechen colleagues.

Home Front: WoT
Maryland governor Larry Hogan signs anti-BDS order
[Arutz Sheva] Maryland governor Larry Hogan signed an executive order on Monday barring the state from doing business with companies that boycott Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, Haaretz reported.

Hogan had previously attempted to pass such a policy through the state's legislator, but it had fallen short without even coming up for a vote, the report said.

In a press conference, Hogan said that the anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement uses "economic discrimination" against Israel. As a result of his order, contracts signed by the state of Maryland will include language that would make it clear that the company participating in the contract does not engage in boycotts against Israel. Maryland's state pension funds will also divest from such companies, he added.

The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington expressed support for Hogan's order, calling it "one more sign that he is a true friend to Israel and the Jewish community."

Over the last few years, several U.S. states have advanced legislation against BDS.
The Times of Israel adds:
Last year, New York Gov. Andrew Sonny Cuomo, a Democrat, issued the first executive order in the country that forces state entities to drop investments linked to boycotts of Israel. State legislatures have been passing measures to stop boycotts. So far, 23 states have enacted laws or issued executive orders banning state business with companies that support boycotts.

Black Fella Arrested In ‘KKK' Graffiti Case At Eastern Michigan
[Daily Caller] A black man has been arrested in connection with a string of racist graffiti incidents at Eastern Michigan University that were protested by students on campus last fall.

Eddie Curlin, 29, was arraigned Monday, Oct. 23, in Washtenaw County District Court on three counts of malicious destruction of property, four counts of identity theft and one count of using computers to commit a crime, reports MLive.

The charges are related to three incidents of vandalism that appeared to be targeting the black community at EMU. In September 2016, EMU discovered "KKK" and "Leave N***ers" spray painted in red, white, and blue paint on a wall in the courtyard of Julia Anne King Hall.

In late October, the administration found another "Leave N***ers" message painted in black on Ford Hall. A third incident took place last spring in a men’s restroom.

Top House Lawyer Slams Fusion GPS For Trying To Hide Its Bank Records
[Daily Caller] The House of Representative’s top lawyer filed a 50-page motion late Monday slamming Fusion GPS for trying to hide its bank records that could show who paid for its "Trump Dossier" ‐ a document containing unsubstantiated and derogatory information about President Donald Trump.

The salacious dossier was publicly released on Jan. 10 by BuzzFeed and caused an immediate uproar.

The House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee issued its subpoena for the bank records, held by TD Bank, on Oct. 4.

Fusion GPS, the political opposition firm that authorized and paid for the anti-Trump dossier from former British MI6 agent Christopher Steele, went into federal court Oct. 20 to stop the subpoena. The firm now is seeking a temporary restraining order to block it.

There's Another Scandal Brewing and It Could Bring Hollywood Down
[PJ] For years, actor Corey Feldman has argued that Hollywood has a very serious issue: pedophilia. He is a victim of abuse himself. As a child actor, he and his fellow '80s star Corey Haim suffered tremendously because of pedophiles in powerful positions. According to Feldman, Haim started using drugs to cope with this trauma. As most people know, drug addiction eventually killed him.

Although Feldman has been warning the entire world about Hollywood's powerful pedophiles for years now, he has mostly been ignored by the powers that be of the mainstream media. See, for instance, this exchange on The View, where he was actually blasted by Barbara Walters for having the audacity to speak out. She accused him of, among other things, "damaging an entire industry."

Yes, that's right. Her response to him explaining that he was sexually abused by Hollywood moguls as a child was that he damaged Hollywood. That was the major problem here, Walters believed, not the abuse itself.

Well, now that everybody is talking about Harvey Weinstein and other sex maniacs with a long record of abusing women, this scandal -- of pedophilia in Hollywood -- seems to be on the brink of blowing up. As actress Evan Rachel Wood of Westwood tweeted a few days ago:

Egypt army kills 6 terrorists in North Sinai raid: Armed Forces spokesman
[AlAhram] Egyptian security killed six bully boyz and seized a large amount of weapons during a raid on a hideout in North Sinai, Armed Forces front man Tamer El-Refaie said in a statement on Monday.

The statement came hours after the army said it that it foiled on Monday an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition into the country through its border with Libya.

The Libyan border operation was part of efforts to track bully boyz involved in the Friday shootout between security forces and terrorist murderous Moslems in the Western Desert, which killed 16 coppers and injured 13 others.

Fifteen bully boyz were also killed or injured in Friday’s hours-long shootout, which took place in the Bahariya Oasis, about 135 kilometres southwest of Giza.

It's time for a special counsel on Hillary Clinton's Russia scandal
[The Hill] When the story broke in April 2015 that the Obama administration, with the help of Hillary Clinton’s State Department, paved the way for Russia to gain control of 20 percent of America’s uranium, it sent shock waves through the halls of power in Washington. It caused red flags to go up and raised scores of questions with enormous implications.

Many people wondered why the United States would give Russia and Vladimir Putin a sweetheart deal like this. In the context of the 2016 presidential campaign, the central questions were about the money flowing to the Clinton Foundation, accusations of pay for play with financial benefits for the Clintons winning out over national security concerns, and why the Obama Justice Department seemed to do nothing about it.

There was more than enough smoke for the FBI to investigate official government favors in exchange for big donations to the Clinton Foundation, but agents ran into a hyper-politicized Attorney General in Loretta Lynch, whose public integrity section said it "did not have enough evidence to move forward," according to to Washington Post in October 2016.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Trump Admin Expected to Kill Landmark Boeing Plane Sales to Iran
[Free Beacon] The Trump administration is coming under increased pressure from Congress to kill a landmark deal between Boeing and an Iranian airline known for engaging in terrorism over concerns the Western airline company would enable Tehran's transfer of militant fighters across the region, according to multiple sources, who told the Washington Free Beacon the administration is likely to nix the multi-billion dollar deal.

The Obama administration's nuclear agreement with Iran paved the way for U.S. aerospace corporation Boeing to ink a deal with Iran's state-controlled airline, Iran Air, which was recently caught using its commercial planes to ferry Iranian militants to regional hotspots.

The Trump administration's recent decision to increase economic pressure on Iran and rework the nuclear agreement has prompted a shift in thinking on the Boeing sales, which require special licenses from the Treasury Department to move forward, according to U.S. officials and those in Congress who are familiar with the shift in thinking on the issue.

10 ISIS terrorists killed in suspected Israeli airstrike
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] At least 10 members of a small jihadist faction linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group were killed Monday by suspected Israeli air strikes in southern Syria, a monitor said.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes hit the town of Sahm al-Jolan in the west of Daraa province.

The monitor said 10 fighters from the Jaish Khaled Bin Walid group were killed, along with two women believed to be the wives of fighters from the faction.

The strike hit a base belonging to the group, which has pledged allegiance to ISIS but was never formally incorporated into it.

The Observatory relies on a network of sources inside Syria, and says it determines whose planes carry out raids according to type, location, flight patterns and munitions used.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the report.

The Observatory said Monday's strike came several months after 16 fighters from the group were killed in suspected Israeli air strikes in the same area.

Jaish Khaled Bin Walid was formed in May 2016, and is an alliance of several jihadist groups, the largest of them the Yarmuk Martyrs Brigade, which was listed by Washington as a "terrorist" group.

In November 2016, Israel's army said it had targeted members of the Yarmuk Martyrs Brigade after they fired at an Israeli soldier in the Golan Heights.

The Observatory said Jaish Khaled Bin Walid is estimated to have some 1,200 fighters, and controls territory in western Daraa province, along the border with the Golan Heights.

Mueller Adds Podesta Group To Russia Probe
[Daily Caller] Tony Podesta and his Democratic lobbying firm, the Podesta Group, are now being investigated as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into possible connections between the Trump campaign and Russia, three sources with knowledge told NBC News.

Mueller’s investigators began looking into the Podesta Group after they discovered that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort worked with the firm on a pro-Ukrainian lobbying effort. What began as a cursory examination of the firm, designed to gauge Manafort’s level of involvement in the lobbying campaign, has become a criminal investigation into possible violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by the Podesta Group, sources told NBC News.

Manafort reportedly worked along side the Podesta Group for the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine (ECMU), a nonprofit dedicated to increasing pro-Ukrainian sentiment in the west. Investigators are currently examining whether the lobbying firm violated FARA by failing to disclose their work for a foreign government. Both Manafort and the Podesta Group did not disclose their relationship with the ECMU until media reports exposed the arrangement.

The ECMU is reportedly backed by the party of Regions, a pro-Russian Ukrainian political party funded by oligarchs who paid Manafort’s firm millions.

Gunmen block Tripoli-Sebha road
Must be tax season in Libya
Tunis, 23 October 2017:

The armed group that last week cut off the water supply to Tripoli in a bid force the release of its leader has carried its threat to cut the road from Sebha to the capital – albeit temporarily.

Yesterday, vehicles were stopped on the road south of Sherwif. They were ordered to take the alternative but far longer route via Sukna and Waddan. However, later in the day the road was reopened to traffic.

The gunmen involved, members of a Brak Al-Shatti armed group led by Al-Mabrouk Ahnish, last week turned off the valves on the Man-Made River (MMR) pipeline, in an attempt to compel the Rada (“Deterrence”) forces in the Tripoli to release him. He was arrested along with a Sudanese colleague while in the Wirshefana district west of the capital at the beginning of last week and handed over to Rada.

In response, Mabrouk’s brother, Khalifa warned that he would blow up the MMR pipeline as well as the gas pipeline feeding into the Greenstream line to Italy and block the Sebha-Tripoli road. So far he has blocked the water and the road, although as far as the water supply is concerned he merely turned off the valves. There are, however, unconfirmed reports today that the control room at the Shwerif station controlling the power to the pumps on the MMR has been on fire.

There is no news about the gas pipeline.

Mabrouk Ahnish continues to be held at Mitiga airbase by Rada.

2 Iraqi soldiers die in ISIS checkpoint attack in Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) Six Iraqi personnel were killed and injured as Islamic State militants attacked joint troops deployed in villages, west of Kirkuk, a military source said.

“A group of IS militants attacked troops of the Iraqi army’s 60th division,” the source told Alghad Press on Monday.

The attack, according to the source, “was carried out near Qaysouma and al-Wardiya villages, in al-Abbassi. The attackers were between 30-40 IS militants.”

The confrontations are still ongoing, the source said, adding that so far two army personnel were killed and two others from al-Hashd al-Shaabi [Popular Mobilization Forces] were injured.

Trump Unleashes CIA Kill Teams In Afghanistan
[DAILYCALLER] CIA paramilitary forces are expanding partner operations in Afghanistan to hunt and kill high level Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
operatives, The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reports.

These CIA missions will reportedly include both paramilitary personnel of the CIA along with U.S. special operations forces detailed to the agency for specific missions. The use of special operations forces allows hunter killer teams to call in air support, if necessary, as they hunt Taliban bomb-makers across the country.

The loosening of restrictions on CIA ground operations in Afghanistan is part of a broader push by President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s administration to accelerate pressure on Talibs. Trump previously loosened CIA dronezap rules in Afghanistan that will now allow for some civilian casualties relative to the importance of the target.

The U.S. will adopt a conditions not timeline based approach in Afghanistan with an overall strategy to push Talibs to the negotiating table with the Afghan national government, Trump declared in an Aug 21 address. The Taliban, however, have little reason to negotiate after banner years in the Afghan war. #2  These CIA missions will reportedly include both paramilitary personnel of the CIA along with U.S. special operations forces detailed to the agency for specific missions. The use of special operations forces allows hunter killer teams to call in air support, if necessary, as they hunt Taliban bomb-makers across the country.

Meanwhile, both tactical and strategic intelligence in support of SOF Foreign Internal Defense (FID) missions in Niger goes lacking.

Has someone has forgotten their mission? Perhaps there is some way the CIA could establish some sort of 'para-intelligence' capability whilst they play unconventional warfare ?

I am old enough to remember (in the not too distant past), the Klingons turning up their noses at military types, even former military personnel within their ranks. My how times have changed.

The Beatings Will Continue: Syrian Edition

ISIS executes 116 in Raqqa

BEIRUT: Daesh executed dozens of civilians this month in the Syrian desert, a monitor said Monday, in a gruesome massacre as the terrorists see their “caliphate” collapse.

The extremist group last week lost its key Syrian stronghold of Raqqa, the latest in a string of setbacks for the militants who are facing multiple offensives in both Syria and neighboring Iraq.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor, said Daesh fighters massacred more than 100 people in the desert town of Al-Qaryatain this month before they lost it to regime forces.

“IS (Daesh) has over a period of 20 days executed at least 116 civilians in reprisal killings, accusing them of collaboration with regime forces,” observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Regime forces retook Al-Qaryatain, which lies in the central Homs province, on Saturday, three weeks after the terrorists seized control of it.

Daesh first occupied the town in 2015 and lost it to Russian-backed Syria forces last year.

“After the regime retook it (on Saturday), the town’s residents found the bodies on the streets. They had been shot dead or executed with knives,” Abdel Rahman said.

“Most of the IS fighters who attacked the town a month ago were sleeper cells ... They are from the town, know the town’s residents and who is for or against the regime,” he said.

The majority of those killed were executed in the last two days before Daesh lost the town again, he added.

The regime seized back Al-Qaryatain on Saturday after more than 200 terrorists withdrew from the town overnight, pulling back into the vast desert region that stretches all the way to the Iraqi border.

Egyptian warbirds catch, destroy Libyan convoy
Tunis, 23 October 2017:

Hard on the House of Representatives’ (HoR) sending its regrets to Cairo over the terrorist ambush in western Egypt in which at least 54 security personnel died, Egyptian warplanes have struck a suspect convoy entering the country from Libya.

The Egyptian air force has given few details the raid except that it targeted eight four-wheel-drive vehicles which it said were carrying arms and explosives. It is unclear if the airstrikes were made in the Libyan or the Egyptian part of the Western Desert. Past attacks by Egyptian warplanes appear to have gone in on both sides of the frontier.
And maybe they just wanted to eliminate an operative
The Egyptian military has supported the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its commander-in-chief Khalifa Hafter in part because of their declared joint determination to crush terrorists.

However, the LNA is now preoccupied with a range of operations including besieging Derna, consolidating its western advance to Bani Walid and seeking to improve its still shaky influence and control in the south of the country. It would therefore seem unlikely that any significant LNA force is currently patrolling its 1,115 kilometre border with Egypt.

Federal tax loophole let Planned Parenthood build clinics financed with ‘abortion bonds'
[Wash Times] Federal taxpayer funding generally isn’t allowed to be spent on abortions, but Republicans say they have spotted a loophole in which tax-free municipal bonds have been used to put federal cash on the line in order to help build abortion clinics ‐ including Planned Parenthood’s headquarters in New York.

Rep. Robert Pittenger, North Carolina Republican, will introduce legislation this week aimed at stopping what he called "abortion bonds." He said it’s time to make the law agree with the principle that taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook in any way for the procedure.

"We’re utilizing the federal government to facilitate the development of these abortion clinics through the involvement of the American taxpayer, and they don’t want that," Mr. Pittenger said.

Under current law, known as the Hyde Amendment policy, taxpayer funding is supposed to be limited to abortions in extreme cases of rape, incest or danger to the mother’s life.

That prohibition generally covers Medicaid and other government-funded health care programs, but Mr. Pittenger said it also should cover areas where taxpayer money goes to subsidize abortion providers. He said construction of abortion clinics with publicly backed financing is one of those areas.

Finding Bergdahl – The Final Chapter
[DangerousMagazine] In the fifth and final chapter of this saga we go deep inside the back room negotiations to release Bergdahl and the controversy that would await him after his release.

by Robert Young Pelton

By late 2013 Bowe Bergdahl had been a prisoner of the Haqqani’s in Pakistan for almost half a decade. According to Bergdahl’s account, he fought back , he refused to convert, refused to eat cooked food (an insult to Pashtuns) and he refused to bathe. He escaped multiple times ending up in a small cage. Like most of his decisions, he ended up choosing the one that would make it harder on him.

Bergdahl had no idea how to deal with being a hostage in a region where kidnapping was perfected as part of the culture. Just in-country and eager to understand the strange land he quickly began to dislike his commander and in June 2009 he left his small group of 33 soldiers to walk 30 kilometers north to the unit’s headquarters and file an official report on his unit. The naive US soldier was quickly kidnapped and after some clumsy attempts by tribesmen to trade him to the base commander he was hustled over the border to Pakistan. My previous chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 were published in Vice to detail this extraordinary event. I chose to ignore Bergdah and let him tell his own story. My focus was learning from the insiders who tried to help, and sometimes hinder, his torturous path to freedom. Bowe Bergdahl has now told part of his story in a bizarre Hollywood discussion with a producer and again through a detailed video interview with former hostage Sean Langan but his story is only beginning to be told.

The story of Bergdahl and the efforts to free him also are tossed in an ocean of angry condemnation, biased news reports, slanted commentary and stern accusations from five years of speculation on Bowe Bergdahl’s motives and that is then whipped up into a by a storm of personal agendas that sunk any chances of Bergdahl had of ever being understood calmly and fairly.

Um, Bergdahl was like stupid and deserted...ran away...stabbing his unit in the back...that was his personal agenda.

And like, Obama traded the five highest ranking Taliban war criminals for this like minded deserter...stabbing the US in the back...that appeared to be Obama's personal agenda...and I don't understand it.

This is not the end of this story...those five war criminals will return to the battlefield...if they haven't already done so...and they will do their damndest to kill US troops. That means even as I write this, an American soldier(s) is enjoying his life...that will be brutally taken from him by the future actions of these released war criminals.

Dem Who Criticized Trump for Being "Insensitive" Has Anti-Vet Voting Record
[Conservative Tribune] The Florida Democrat who slammed President Donald Trump this week for allegedly being "insensitive" during a phone conversation with a slain U.S. soldier’s widow has her own sordid history of insensitivity, especially in regard to veterans.

According to an analysis of Rep. Frederica Wilson’s congressional voting record, conducted by Fox News, she’s voted against bills that would have provided "continued funding for veteran benefits, including payments to widows of fallen soldiers," multiple times over the last several years.

"She has also opposed measures designed to improve the Department of Veterans Affairs," reported Fox. "In March 2013, Wilson opposed the ’Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act,’ which prevented a government shutdown and provided funds for the U.S. military and the VA."

6 ISIS Big Turbans die trying to escape Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) Six Islamic State leaders were killed as Iraqi troops repulsed an infiltration attempt in northeast of Diyala, a commander said on Monday.

“Joint security forces of Dijla Operations Command and al-Hashd al-Shaabi [Popular Mobilization Forces] repelled an infiltration attempt by IS leaders through Sarha region, north of Baquba. Six militants were killed as they were escaping Hawija,” Maj. Gen. Mazhar al-Azzawi told AlSumaria News.

Azzawi indicated that the leadership is determined to end the IS presence and foil attempts of infiltration into liberated regions.

Earlier this month, Iraqi troops regained full control on Hamreen mountains that stretch out between Diyala and Kirkuk provinces, retaking areas between Zgheitoun bridge reaching until al-Fatha bridge, an area that stretches out 45 kilometers with depth of 15 kilometers.

who became an al-Qaeda operative, alleges he’s being held in long-term solitary confinement, has been forced to eat foods forbidden by his religion, endured harassment yelled by white supremacist inmates saying things offensive to Moslems and has been prohibited from communicating with relatives, including nieces and nephews.
Given that his Pops tried unsuccessfully to report him to the American authorities as a terrorist via the local American embassy, it is highly likely that his various relatives have absolutely no interest in communicating with him, so no prevention occurred.
"Prison walls do not form a barrier separating prison inmates from the protections of the United States Constitution," his 73-page lawsuit said.

It was filed last week in federal court in Colorado against U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Joe Does 1 through 20. Spokespeople for the Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Department of Justice declined to comment on the case.

Abdulmutallab is serving four life prison terms in Florence, Colo., the highest-security prison in the country.

He tried to detonate a bomb on a flight carrying more than 300 people, but his plan was foiled when passengers and crew members overcame him on Dec. 25, 2009, as the plane flew over Woodhaven as it approached Metro Airport. The incident caused burns to Abdulmutallab's genitals and legs.

Top Union Executive in Fight for $15 Resigns After Complaints of Misconduct With Staff
The latest Progressive moral panic is having some interesting victims. They've really shot themslves in the foot with this one.
[FREEBEACON] One of the top labor figures in the Fight for $15 minimum wage campaign on Monday resigned from his senior position at the Service Employees International Union amid complaints about his sexual conduct toward staffers.

Scott Courtney's resignation as executive vice president of the SEIU and a member of the union comes a week after SEIU President Mary Kay Henry suspended him based on preliminary information from an internal investigation.

SEIU spokesperson Sahar Wali issued a statement on the resignation, quoting Henry's previous comments on the matter.

"There is no place in our organization for conduct that violates our Code of Ethics," Henry said. "Such conduct does not reflect who we are or represent the values that guide the important work we do every day for working people, our families, and communities."

"The internal investigation will continue and President Henry has taken additional steps to ensure that, across our union, all staff are respected, their contributions are valued, and their voices are heard," Wali said.

When the 2016 presidential election ended, senior company executives admitted the prospects for their renewable energy "biofuels" company evaporated. "We had a lot of prospects last year," former Joule CEO Brian Baynes told BioFuels Digest in a rare interview in July. "But those new investor prospects walked away, particularly post-election."

Dmitry Akhanov, the president and CEO of Rusnano USA Inc., a Kremlin-owned venture capital firm nicknamed "Putin’s child," oversaw the Russian government’s investment in Joule and sat on its board along with two other Russians with ties to the Kremlin. Akhavov agreed that Clinton’s loss doomed the company.

"We lined up investors who were willing to buy the bonds, but after the elections, with some statements from the new administration regarding potential uncertainty, the future support of biofuels was stopped," he told The Daily Caller News Foundation in an interview. "The company was not able to do the deal and it was one of the reasons why the company was closed."

Akhanov confirmed to TheDCNF his company invested and lost 1 billion rubles, worth $35 million when Joule closed its doors.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
From The Gym To The Gun Range, Where Antifa Learns To Fight
Placed here as opinion because that is where it belongs.
BLUF, these folks want to brawl.

The anti-fascists are wearing their sweatpants today. Tennis shoes are a must. They’ve been told to wear something breathable — no masks, no bandanas, no armor. Almost nobody wears black (almost nobody).

Gym members drift in through the door of the Breakaway Social Center in the Little Village neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side. The two-story corner building was once home to a $10-a-haircut barbershop, but now the walls are lined with posters bearing anarchist symbols and advertising a recent lecture on militant suffragettes.

The couches are pushed back to the walls, next to shelves stacked with political journals. On the floor, warm-ups begin. The class splits into small groups to learn a couple new moves — thrust kicks, palm heel strikes.

Lean in, turn hips for momentum, and follow through once, striking the jaw — that’s how to punch a neo-Nazi.

One of the gym’s organizers, who goes by Meyer Lanski (a play on the Jewish gangster Meyer Lansky), instructs participants to stand in line. Lanski, 32, holds out a kick shield and braces himself to receive their blows. Even some of the new participants are landing their kicks. Within the hour, the women and men start sparring, learning self-defense tactics they can use in their private lives, or at protests.

The Haymaker Collective is one of many anti-fascist groups that began offering self-defense courses in the wake of Donald Trump’s election and the political upheaval that has followed. Some groups train their members for unforeseen attacks, while other antifa organize more militant trainings to equip people with arms or prepare them for confrontations at protests.
Begin the truthful part of the article:
Antifa are most often portrayed as a violent, left-leaning counterpart to the far right, seen in protests marching in all-black and bashing in windows. In April, antifa at a free speech rally in Berkeley set fires and engaged in street brawls with alt-right groups. At a protest in the same city this August, they pushed a Trump supporter to the ground and beat him until a reporter intervened. Antifa critics claim that the movement’s more violent factions do unjustifiable harm and dampen the message of peaceful protesters. Some say they play into the hands of the alt-right, who hope to gather sympathy by portraying themselves as the victims of the militant left.
Thus endeth the truthful part of the article.
But anti-fascists maintain that defense and street confrontations are necessary to subdue the far right. In Charlottesville, antifa stepped in to protect clergy members from an advancing crowd of neo-Nazis. And after Charlottesville, offshoots of the Unite the Right rally flailed in the face of mass resistance movements in cities like Boston and San Francisco.

Members of Haymaker and other more militant anti-fascist factions consider the far right a threat, and one they must physically prepare to defend themselves from. As reports of hate speech and violence have dominated this past year, antifa say their membership is increasing not just with militants, but also with people who have been targets of racism and bigotry. The methods they choose to employ are as diverse as their ranks — with some taking up arms and others turning to hand-to-hand combat. Beyond just self-defense, the increasing intensity on both sides could mean bigger brawls than anything seen at Charlottesville, with neither side prepared to step down.

In workshops, trainers point out the different strategies for dealing with protesters or the police. “Police are more systematic, whereas fascists are unpredictable,” Lanski said. He and other gym members analyze news and amateur footage of protests online, and shape their trainings accordingly. In addition to one-on-one combat, they practice group fights as well.

As much as Haymaker attempts to prepare for protests that could turn violent, Lanski understands the limits to what the gym can teach. He knows there’s no way to prevent what happened in August in Charlottesville, where Heather Heyer was killed when a car barreled through a crowd of anti-racist counterprotesters. “I don’t think any of us are naive to think that self-defense could have changed what happened,” he said.
Miss Heyer died as the result of a heart attack. The question as to whether her death was caused by impact of the car has not been determined, to my knowledge.
To protect those battling it out in the streets, many antifa groups train members in street medicine. Those medics monitor the crowds, handing out water and sunscreen and acting as first responders if police bring out tear gas or a confrontation gets heated. The medics typically come from nursing or emergency medicine backgrounds, but many are laypeople trained by other street medics before them.

But many antifa who spoke to BuzzFeed News said medical training alone won’t protect them during confrontations. During the street fights that broke out in Berkeley between antifa and white supremacists earlier this year, Sean Hines realized that his side wasn’t ready for that kind of confrontation with the right. “To be quite frank, they kicked our ass in a lot of instances … it was kind of an eye-opener that we really needed to start training,” Hines said.

He created a fight club in Santa Rosa, California, to teach combat training to like-minded antifa. “Antifa had strength in numbers, but when it came to symmetrical combat, we would usually lose,” he said.

Hines also founded an anarchist and socialist gun club, integrating guns into antifa self-defense to arm working-class people and create a “left-wing militia.” He’s not alone — several antifa groups are taking advantage of lax gun laws in their states and arming their members.

“The more people that are armed, the more that we have the ability to fight police terrorism or fight fascist terrorism,” said Joseph Jordan, an anarchist who participates in Seattle antifa groups. “When the fuckers see that we are willing to shoot back, they back the fuck off.”

On the East Coast, John — who asked to be identified only by his first name, as he has been arrested for possessing illegal ammunition in the past — said he feels the left has not moved quickly enough to acquire guns. “People say, ‘When the revolution happens, we’ll find the weapons.’ But weapons don’t just materialize out of nowhere,” he said. “We should take advantage of the fact that our country lets people bear arms.”

John aspires to bring the left onto equal footing with the far right, which he noticed has more effectively integrated weapons into its fighting strategy. “They basically take military doctrine and bastardize it,” he said.

In April, Phoenix’s anti-racist, gunslinging John Brown Gun Club posted a video of its members at a range, clad in black and masked in red bandanas, firing at Pepe the frog targets — and missing. The video circulated among the online right, and not in the way that the John Brown Club intended. Instead of intimidating white supremacists with a demonstration of force, the video elicited jokes about the group members’ lack of gun safety knowledge.

“The biggest thing, I think, is for the left to really figure itself out. In its current state, it’s not prepared whatsoever,” John said. “You’re inviting the right wing to attack you.” But the more people the left can arm, and arm effectively, the less the right can laugh in their faces, he argues.

John only encourages the use of guns for defending oneself or anyone else getting attacked. But he sees them as a necessary tool within a larger set of antifa strategies — a controversial stance when massacres like the one in Las Vegas have led to calls for stricter gun control laws.

Guns, John said, can aid in combating white supremacist and far-right terrorism, which he has noticed often involves a single actor carrying out shootings en masse; such was the case with Dylann Roof in Charleston and Robert Lewis Dear in Colorado Springs. “If the right wants to come and massacre us, then we’ll massacre them,” he said.

At gun ranges, anarchists John and Jordan take aim alongside conservative Second Amendment defenders. Often, they take newcomers out to the range to get a gun in their hand for the first time.

Besides the arms trainings, John and Jordan also host martial arts and physical combat trainings. But in the face of Nazis heading down the streets with AR-15s, they don’t feel hand-to-hand defense offers enough protection.

“If there was a legitimate war, martial arts wouldn’t be that useful,” John said.
Learn the history of armed insurgencies, John, and you will find that armed conflict doesn't boil down to who's right, but who's left. It is ugly and will upend everything both sides have work peaceably to attain. Both sides believe, and I have read this in many forums, that an armed conflict will end quickly because one side has more weapons than the other, or one side has more people, or one side is more righteous. It will end quickly because of the massive bloodletting for both sides, and both sides will suffer greatly.
“After Trump got elected, for the first time ever I went out and bought pepper spray,” said one Haymaker organizer who goes by the pseudonym Naila. A Midwest native, Naila is Muslim, wears a hijab, and has spent much of her life as one of her small community’s visible minorities. Her local mosque has been vandalized. People driving down the street have stopped to yell slurs at her. So this June, she started carrying the pepper spray.

“But having a can of pepper spray is very different than knowing what to do when you are physically capable,” she said. Haymaker’s trainings have made her more aware of her surroundings and her own body’s natural reactions.

Naila said that more Muslim women like her feel an urgent need for self-defense and have started showing up for trainings. The gym strives to reach individuals who could be targeted by hate crimes across various backgrounds, particularly Muslims and Jews.

And they aren’t the only ones who see themselves at risk. Seattle anarchist Jordan, who is black, has noticed that many of those who have shown new interest in arming themselves, some who have never shot a gun before at all, are people of color or queer. They feel that their life is “in danger in a very direct way right now,” Jordan said.

Haymaker’s Lanski, who is Jewish, has seen anti-Semitic slurs cover synagogues in his city. He has been a victim himself. A few years ago at an anti-fascist protest, Lanski was attacked by white supremacists and ended up with his teeth knocked out. He’s scared to live in the United States now more than ever — but the gym has helped him feel more confident about his ability to defend himself.
But not the ability to take a trimming.
As a black man, Jordan said that sense of urgency is constant. “I’ve always seen the degree to which a potential escalation to the point of legal force is necessary, and it’s what this fucking country is founded on.”

Antifa aren't the first leftists to promote self-defense against fascism. In founding Haymaker, Lanski said he was inspired by Pacifico Di Consiglio, a Jewish-Italian teenager who started an anti-fascist boxing gym in the Jewish ghetto in 1938 in the face of Mussolini’s anti-Semitic policies.

Jordan finds inspiration in Rob Williams, the first US civil rights leader to encourage armed resistance to racial violence. He formed and trained the Black Guard, who came to the aid of black residents in North Carolina when law enforcement would not, making him one of many leaders to advocate the long-debated idea of fighting violence with violence.

Typically, though, men have dominated these movements — a problem contemporary groups still face but are working to combat.

“We’re trying to build a space for people who may not be accepted by heteronormative macho gym culture,” Lanski said.

For him, Haymaker is as much about building strength as it is about building community. “People feel very scared, and one of the effects of fear is isolation,” he said. “This is one of the ways we want to break away.”

#2  Within the hour, the women and men start sparring, learning self-defense tactics they can use in their private lives, or at protests.

Portrayal of their training as "self defense" is as Orwellian as describing their motives as "anti-fascist".

Or, punishable by hanging. Take your pick.

Afghanistan
4 Kops die in checkpoint attack in Ghazni
At least four policemen were killed in a Taliban attack on a security check post in central Ghazni province on Sunday night, local police confirmed on Monday.

In addition, two other policemen were wounded.

The attack took place in Waghiz district of the province after Taliban insurgents attacked the police check post and clashed with security forces, provincial police chief Mohammad Zaman said.

“The Taliban also suffered casualties in the clash but there is no exact information,” Zaman said adding that the insurgents retreated after the attack.

Arabia
Houthis, Yemenis ring up 9 casualties in attack in Abyan
ADEN: Four Yemeni soldiers and five assailants were killed in an attack on a military base in the southern province of Abyan on Monday, a security source said.

A car rigged with explosives carrying five men pulled up to a military base in the district of Mudiya in Abyan, the source told AFP preferring anonymity.

Four men wearing explosive belts ran out of the car toward the base, but were all shot dead before they could detonate, the source said.
The vehicle then exploded outside the base, killing the driver and four soldiers from a UAE-backed contingent in the Yemeni Army. Nine soldiers were also wounded.

Yemen’s southern provinces, including Abyan, are the site of a long-running US drone war against Al-Qaeda’s Yemeni branch.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has flourished in the chaos of Yemen’s civil war. The US, the only government to operate drones over the impoverished country, considers AQAP to be the radical group’s most dangerous branch and backs the UAE-trained contingent in southern Yemen.

The Grand Turk
Daniel Pipes: Saving NATO from Turkey
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, known as NATO, faces an existential problem.

No, it's not about getting member states to fulfill agreed-upon spending levels on defense. Or finding a role after the Soviet collapse. Or standing up to Russia's Vladimir Putin. Rather, it's about Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Islamist, dictatorial ruler of Turkey whose policies threaten to undermine this unique alliance of 29 states that has lasted nearly 70 years.

Created in 1949, NATO's founding principles ambitiously set out the alliance goal "to safeguard the freedom, common heritage and civilization of [member states'] peoples, founded on the principles of democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law." In other words, the alliance exists to defend Western civilization.

For its first 42 years, until the USSR collapsed in 1991, this meant containing and defeating the Warsaw Pact. Today, it means containing and defeating Russia and Islamism. Of these latter two, Islamism is the deeper and longer-lasting threat, being based not on a single leader's personality but on a highly potent ideology, one that effectively succeeded fascism and communism as the great radical utopian challenge to the West.

Some major figures in NATO appreciated this shift soon after the Soviet collapse. Already in 1995, Secretary-General Willy Claes noted with prescience that "Fundamentalism is at least as dangerous as communism was." With the Cold War over, he said, "Islamic militancy has emerged as perhaps the single gravest threat to the NATO alliance and to Western security."

In 2004, José María Aznar, Spain's former prime minister, warned that "Islamist terrorism is a new shared threat of a global nature that places the very existence of NATO's members at risk." He advocated that NATO focus on combating "Islamic jihadism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction" and called for "placing the war against Islamic jihadism at the center of the Allied strategy."
