CNN's Undisclosed Ties To Fusion GPS
HT AOSHQ sidebar:
CNN's reporting on the Trump-Russia dossier has left out at least one crucial fact: the close ties between the network and the opposition research firm at the center of the dossier controversy.

CNN's reporting on the dossier, led by justice correspondent Evan Perez, has been favorable to the firm, Fusion GPS, and hyped the dossier's credibility. Left out of Perez's reporting, which has relied largely on unnamed sources, is his personal closeness to Fusion GPS' operatives. Fusion has repeatedly been described in Senate testimonies as a smear-for-hire operation that manufactures misleading or false media narratives for its clients.

Glenn Simpson, the Fusion co-founder most often associated with the dossier, is used to working on stories with Perez. As reporters at the Journal, Perez and Simpson regularly co-authored stories on national security.

Another Fusion founder, Tom Catan, worked as a reporter for the Journal at the same time as Perez and Simpson. The third Fusion co-founder, Peter Fritsch, worked above Perez and Simpson as the senior national security editor.

Simpson and Fritsch left the WSJ in 2011 to launch Fusion. Perez jumped from the paper to CNN in 2013. Another longtime Journal reporter, Neil King, left the paper to join Fusion in December 2016.

President Donald Trump Vindicated
[American Thinker] There are four distinct camps regarding Donald Trump.

Trumpsters ‐ Those who were with Trump from the outset. Who saw his shtick for what it was ‐ response to the jungle, which is Washington D.C., and felt that he, and he alone could tame the beast.

Reluctant Supporters ‐ Republicans who supported another candidate originally but came around to Trump before the general.

NeverTrump Republicans ‐ Jonah Goldberg, Bill Kristol, John Kasich, John McCain, Jeff Flake, et al. Republicans who seemingly would have preferred that Hillary won, than the lowbrow outsider, Donald Trump.

Unhinged Leftists ‐ The hard left is, well, hard left. Trump Derangement Syndrome is strong in this bunch; Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Elijah Cummings, Maxine Waters, Frederica Wilson, Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Jimmy Kimmel, and on, and on, and on.

I was a reluctant Donald Trump supporter, and while there have been tactics employed that I might have handled differently, his win and subsequent advances has made me a believer. Bismarck said, "those who like laws or sausage should not watch either being made." While the process has been ugly, the results to date have been astounding. President Trump has made progress on the economy, jobs, the Supreme Court, border security, international affairs, and in defeating ISIS and radical Islamic terrorism.

It was reasonable that some in Congress and the media might have hedged their bets, with the Trump/Russia collusion narrative blaring on the television 24/7. Who would want to stench of these allegations stinking up their own personal and political fortunes through association? But now, the Trump/Russia collusion narrative blowing up in the Left’s face.

Actress Rose McGowan on Harvey Sweinstein and the 'pile on'
[Breitbart] Actress Rose McGowan addressed the crowd Friday in Detroit at the annual Women’s Convention, marking her first public speech since taking to Twitter earlier this month to accuse disgraced TWC mogul Harvey Weinstein of raping her, and blasted what she called Hollywood’s culture of fear and sexual misconduct.

"I have been silenced for 20 years. I have been slut-shamed. I have been harassed. I’ve been maligned. And you know what? I’m just like you," told the crowd. "Because what happened to me behind the scenes happens to all of us in this society, and that cannot stand and it will not stand."

"The paradigm must be subverted. It is time. We’ve been waiting a very long time for this to happen but we don’t have to wait anymore," she said before encouraging sexual misconduct victims to speak out and name their attacker.

"I came to be a voice for all of us who have been told that we are nothing. For all us who have been looked down on. For all of us who have been grabbed by the motherfucking pussy," she said. "No more. Name it, shame it and call it out. Join me. It’s time to clean house."

#2  I've got mixed feelings about this whole topic.

HW, BC, etc. are disgusting slime balls no doubt and deserve whatever comes on them from it.

However, 2 questions remain...

If attractive young women dress and act like sluts
1) What do they expect to happen?
2) What should any attracted male do that is appropriate?

#6  This is looking more and more like sex for movie roles, followed by regrets many years later. Hookers have been known to name their clients, either out of spite or because a blackmail scheme failed. But even hookers don't generally call it rape - unlike faded* actresses, they seem to have a basic set of ethics re quid pro quo transactions.

* I don't see an actor losing prominence as some kind of professional and moral failure. Success in that field is a lot like winning first prize in the Lotto. It's just very rare, and not necessarily all that related to talent. What is a professional and moral failure is sleeping with a bigwig in the industry to get a role and then accusing him of rape.

First charges filed in US special counsel Mueller's Russia probe
A federal grand jury in Washington on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, CNN reported, citing sources briefed on the matter.

The charges are sealed under orders from a federal judge, and it was not clear what the charges were, CNN said, adding that anyone facing charges could be taken into custody as soon as Monday.

US intelligence agencies concluded in January that Russia interfered in the election to try to help President Donald Trump defeat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton through a campaign of hacking and releasing embarrassing emails, and disseminating propaganda via social media to discredit her campaign.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether Trump campaign officials colluded with those Russian efforts.

He is also examining other possible crimes, including obstruction of justice, money-laundering and tax evasion.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, declined to comment to Reuters about the CNN report on Friday.

Va. gov candidate Gillespie backs petition to keep Confederate statues
[The Hill] Ed Gillespie, the Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, is backing a petition that opposes the removal of Virginia's Confederate statues and monuments.

In an email to supporters Tuesday, Gillespie cast efforts to remove Confederate statues from public land as an attempt to erase history.

"My opponent, Democratic Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam has promised to do everything he can to remove Virginia's Confederate monuments and statues if he is elected governor," Gillespie said in the email, referring to Democratic nominee Ralph Northam.

"I think we should keep them up," he added. "We should teach history ‐ NOT erase it."

Gillespie's support for the petition comes weeks after violence erupted at a rally organized by white nationalists to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Va., where one woman was killed and many others were injured when a car was driven into a crowd of counterprotesters.

Economy
Get Ready For The Trump Boom
[Canada Free Press] The U.S. House of Representatives kick-started President Trump’s ambitious $1.5 trillion tax cut plan yesterday as it approved the proposed budgetary blueprint for the federal fiscal year that began almost four weeks ago.

"Big news ‐ Budget just passed," the president tweeted at 11:05 Thursday morning.

Trump administration is eager to shift the economy into high gear. Now Republicans can get to work on personal and corporate tax cuts without worrying about Democrat obstructionism. Their goal is to get a bill to the president’s desk next month, giving Trump and congressional Republicans their first major legislative win this year after their humiliating failure to repeal Obamacare.

The Trump administration is eager to shift the economy into high gear and isn’t shy about blaming the Obama administration for the nation’s current economic woes.

Gorka suggests Clinton should be tried for treason, potentially executed over Uranium One deal
[Wash Times] Hillary Clinton deserves being tried for treason and potentially executed, according to Sebastian Gorka, President Trump’s former deputy assistant.

Mr. Gorka made the comment during an interview Thursday evening with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity as the two discussed Mrs. Clinton’s role authorizing the sale of Canadian mining firm Uranium One to Russian state-owned nuclear company Rosatom while serving as the Obama administration’s secretary of state.

"The Russians infiltrated our national security to corner the uranium market and they succeeded, and they knew all the crimes that were committed," Mr. Hannity said during the broadcast.

"If this had happened in the 1950s, there would be people up on treason charges right now. The Rosenbergs, OK? This is equivalent to what the Rosenbergs did and those people got the chair. Think about it. Giving away nuclear capability to our enemies, that’s what we’re talking about," Mr. Gorka responded.

Married couple Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were convicted of espionage in 1951 for giving nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union and were executed by electric chair two years later.

Jennifer Kerns: Time to stop it with Trump, have a look at Brennan
[Wash Examiner] In a court of law when it is discovered that evidence has been contaminated or a witness is lying, that evidence is thrown out and a jury is instructed to ignore the witness testimony.

As new bombshell revelations prove the infamous "Trump dossier" was bought-and-paid-for by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee, the document that launched the Russian collusion investigation against President Trump must accordingly be thrown out.

In light of the newest charge that the DNC and the Clinton campaign may have broken a dozen federal election laws with the document, special counsel Robert Mueller has no choice but to dismiss the Trump investigation.

To fully understand how the partisan hit piece fueled Mueller's Russian investigation, one must remember how it all began.

It was John Brennan, director of the Central Intelligence Agency under President Barack Obama, who accepted the now-debunked document and infused it into the bloodstream of the U.S. intelligence community. By acknowledging the document and logging it in his files, Brennan inadvertently gave the document a "Classified" rating, along with some hefty credence. The presumption among the intelligence community was that if the document was good enough for Brennan to believe, then it must have merit.

But Brennan has had a couple of missteps when it comes to intelligence in his career.

As CIA station chief in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1996, Brennan’s CIA missed any signs of the bombing that was to come of the Khobar Towers which killed 19 servicemen.

In 2003, it was Brennan who advised President George W. Bush to establish an "Orange Terror Alert" during Christmas ‐ only to have that intelligence later debunked.

As for the Trump dossier? Once it was injected into the bloodstream, the salacious document spread like wildfire throughout the intelligence community during a highly-charged election year.

That would be fine if the FBI were in the gossip business. But they’re not.

They’re in charge of pursuing actual threats to national security, not refereeing phony political hit jobs against Republicans.

Now, although no one in the Democratic Party will take responsibility for it and Fusion GPS’s co-founders refuse to testify for fear of incriminating themselves, some legitimate questions remain.

First, who gave Brennan the dossier?

Palestinian-American idiot sentenced to 20 years for going to Syria to become ISIS suicide bomber
In which we finally reach the end of the trail for that idiot who attempted to escape ISIS after changing his mind, but found the Peshmerga instead of the Turkish border crossing he intended.
[DailyMail]
  • Mohamad Jamal Khweis was convicted for joining the group in June

  • Khweis left the US in 2015, and entered Syria via Turkey to fight for the militants

  • The 28-year-old agreed to become a suicide bomber for the group

  • Khweis was with the group for about three months until he was captured by Kurdish fighter and returned to US authorities

  • Security experts say about 250 Americans have joined ISIS.
At the time of his surrender he was carrying three cell phones, three forms of ID including his Virginia drivers licence, and a large amount of cash. No doubt the CIA and FBI found the phones interesting.

According to Breitbart, of the 129 known American ISIS recruits, American authorities have no idea where 122 are.

Lindsey Graham 'Vouches' For Menendez's Honesty and Trustworthiness at Corruption Trial
[Townhall] Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez thanked two of his Senate colleagues for testifying at his corruption trial Thursday, saying they "showed extraordinary courage" in defending him.

Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) argued Menendez, who’s facing bribery charges related to trading political influence for luxury vacations and rides in private jets, is honest and trustworthy.

Graham traveled to Newark, New Jersey for the trial on his own dime, his office said, adding that his testimony has nothing to do with the underlying charges, but only relates to his service with Menendez in the upper chamber.

"I'm here to vouch for Bob," Graham told reporters upon entering the courtroom.

The South Carolina Republican said that he’s known Menendez for a long time‐going back to their days in the House of Representatives. They also eat breakfast together on a regular basis in the Senate dining room, and have worked together on legislation such as comprehensive immigration reform.

"In very difficult circumstances, he always keeps his word," Graham said. "A handshake is all you need from Bob. He’s a very honest and trustworthy senator."

He also said political affiliations had nothing to do with him coming to testify on behalf of his colleague.

"I’m not here because I agree with him or disagree with him. I’m here because I know him," explained Graham.

UN should impose sanctions on US until it gets rid of nukes: Analyst
Oh please, Br'er Fox, don't fling us in that brier-patch.
[PRESSTV] The United Nations should impose sanctions on the United States until it gets rid of its all nuclear weapons and closes its military bases around the world, an American political commentator says.

Bruce Gagnon, the coordinator at the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space, told Press TV while commenting on the statement US Defense Secretary James Mattis made during his visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on Friday.

Standing inside the DMZ that separates the two Koreas, Mattis said there is no change in US policy towards North Korea which he accused of building a nuclear arsenal to "threaten others with catastrophe."

"We stand shoulder to shoulder with you and the Korean people in confronting the threats posed by the Kim Jong-un regime," Mattis said alongside his South Korean counterpart Song Young-moo.

"North Korea provocations continue to threaten regional and world peace, and despite the unanimous condemnation by the United Nations Security Council, they still proceed," he said. "As the US secretary of state has made clear, our goal is not war, but rather the complete verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula."

#1  Why the heck are they upset about nuclear power in space?

Currently there are ZERO, NONE, NADA nuclear rockets or large reactors in space.

There are a few very small thermal nuke reactors in deep space. So small that they will not even power a decent floodlight. Russia is rumored to have a couple of nuke powered sats but if they do they are only a few watts more than the thermal nukes.

So why are they upset about Nuke Power in Space?

It would be smart to have some nuke power in deep space - Mars and further out could use real reactors for missions and sites. It would be nice to see Project Nerva type engines used for journeys to the further planets and the Ort Cloud as they could make mission transit times more reasonable.

Kennedy murdered by hard-line faction of US military: Researcher
[PRESSTV] Former US President John F. Kennedy was murdered in a coup d'etat by a hard-line faction of the American military and intelligence agencies with the support of Israel’s Mossad and some organized crime networks, according to an American scholar and researcher.

Dr. Kevin Barrett, a founding member of the Scientific Panel for the Investigation of 9/11, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Friday while commenting on the release of documents related to the Kennedy liquidation.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
allowed the release of thousands of documents related to the liquidation of Kennedy in November 1963, but delayed the publication of some "sensitive" files at the request of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Yemeni forces target Saudi Typhoon fighter jet over Sana’a
[PRESSTV] Yemeni air defense forces, backed by fighters from allied Popular Committees, have reportedly shot down a Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet belonging to the Royal Saudi Air Force, a report says.

Yemen's air defense unit told the country's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that the aircraft had been targeted with a surface-to-air missile as it was flying in the skies over Nihm district east of the Yemeni capital city of Sana’a on Friday evening.

The report added that earlier this month, the Yemeni forces, using a surface-to-air missile, had also shot down a US-made General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operated by the Royal Saudi Air Force.

In June, Yemeni air defense forces also intercepted and shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet in the skies over Sana’a.

According to Yemeni military officials, the invading aircraft had taken part in deadly Arclight airstrikes against residential neighborhoods in the Arab country.

Myanmar army claims peace and stability restored in Rakhine, some troops withdrawn
[Dhaka Tribune] The Myanmar army, Tatmadaw, has said they have withdrawn some troops from Rakhine state after claiming that peace and stability have been restored in the aftermath of the post August 25 military crackdown.

A statement from the military read that the latter had to "carry out area clearance operations in response to the attacks launched by the Arakan Rohingya Salavation Army (ARSA) terrorist groups against 30 police outposts and an army unit base in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships," reports Myanmar Times.

The operations in the area were necessary because "the rule of law and community peace and tranquillity" were disrupted, the statement added.

It also said that "engagements were on the decrease after 5 September" and since the areas in northern Rakhine state are quite stable in terms of rule of law, some of Tatmadaw columns have been withdrawn from the two townships.

The military crackdown by the Myanmar army has resulted in severe criticism from the international community over serious human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violation, with the UN even labelling the operations as "ethnic cleansing". Both the Myanmar government and army deny these accusations.

The crackdown since late August has seen more than 600,000 people of the Moslem majority Rohingya ethnic minority community flee over to Bangladesh from Rakhine.

On October 23, the US State Department had announced withdrawal of military assistance to Myanmar military, on the ground that it used disproportionate force in counter-terrorism operations. That also includes travel ban to the military leadership.

Similarly, the EU has suspended earlier this month invitations to senior Myanmar officials to its member states. It also said it was considering imposing economic sanctions against Myanmar if humanitarian situation in Rakhine state does not improve.

Russian forces defeat hundreds of terrorist targets in Syria -- MoD
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Russian Defense Ministry has reported about the substantial advances made in fighting against terrorism in Syria. The Russian sappers have deactivated nearly 1,000 of various bombs, while hundreds of gunnies positions had been defeated by the Aerospace Forces.

Russian sappers have cleared 33 hectares of the territory in and around the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor in the past 24 hours, destroying more than 960 explosives, Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Syrian reconciliation reported on Thursday.

"In the past 24 hours, 33 hectares of the territory of the city and its suburbs, six kilometers of roads, and 35 buildings were demined, 963 explosives were discovered and destroyed," the center said in a statement.

According to the document, a total of 741 hectares of territory, 183 kilometers of roads, and 1,522 buildings have been inspected since the start of the Russian demining operation in Deir ez-Zor, 37,517 explosive items have been found and destroyed.
The Russian Aerospace Forces have destroyed over 650 targets of various terrorist groups in Syria in the past week, according to an infographics report by the Russian Defense Ministry.

The report, posted on the website of the Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) newspaper, the official publication of the Defense Ministry, says the Russian combat planes operating in Syria have carried out more than 360 sorties during this period.

By mid-October, the Russian campaign in Syria had resulted in more than 92 percent of the country’s territory being liberated from terrorists.

Security forces sent to the scene on Sunday night were unable to find evidence pointing to the killer. Subae had taken leave from his outpost to visit his sick mother at this home. He was walking outside the house, taking a break, when the killer shot him. Neighbours who heard the shots found him lying on the ground grievously injured.

Iraq
Haider al-Abadi halts operation in northern Iraq
[Al Jazeera] Iraq's prime minister has ordered a temporary halt to a military operation in the country's north aimed at wresting back territory held by Kurdish security forces.

In a statement on Friday, Haider al-Abadi ordered government forces to suspend their operations for 24 hours to enable the deployment of other forces in coordination with Kurdish forces in the disputed areas and along the country's borders.

The suspension of the movement of troops will allow a technical team from the two sides to jointly work for the deployment, al-Abadi said.

"This is aimed at preventing a showdown and bloodshed between people of the same country."

Al-Abadi's decision came a day after government forces and Kurdish forces clashed near the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Last week, Iraqi forces retook the oil-rich region of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
which had been held by the Kurds since the Iraqi army fled from advancing ISIS fighters in 2014.

The show of force came after the secession referendum of September 25, in which 92 percent of Kurds supported independence from Iraq, prompting tension between the two sides.

This Week in Guns, October 28th, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

This past week, in the rubric of giving government power it did not earn, we have low hanging fruit and tough to oppose views.

The first is a writer who should know better, but somehow doesn't. The second comes from a lawyer, who not only knows better, but ignores everything surrounding the debate on guns.

I have been reading about how the National Rifle Association's Wayne LaPierre not only did not oppose the Hughes Amendment banning the sale of machine guns in 1986, but also actively sought to get the law passed. I haven't read into the issue enough to make a judgement, but it is hard to see how LaPierre can survive being in the NRA.

How this applies to today is news that proposed legislation banning bump stocks is considered dead, for now. You'll recall the NRA had initially called for the ATF to implement the ban, which was essentially a dare. It was the ATF which approved the bump fire stock for use on semiautomatics in the first place, so a proposed rule change banning them would be a big problem for the agency.

The social media wars continue, albeit in a more civil manner. The banning bastards have lost, but they will be back when they smell more blood, like zombies.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mixed. Rifle ammunition prices were mixed.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mostly lower.

Afghanistan
Karzai visits Iran and criticize the US counter-terrorism mission in Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
visited Iran and criticized the US counter-terrorism mission in Afghanistan as he was speaking during a conference in Tehran.

The office of the former President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the former president in his speech at Institute for politicla and international studies, said the US counter-terrorism policy in Afghanistan has not only resulted into eradicationof terrorism but has resulted into more violence led by the other terrorist groups, including the ISIS group.

Karzai further added that the US forces arrived in Afghanistan to fight terrorism with the support of the international community and regional countries.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
he said if the US policies have failed, then Washington should start negotiations with the other countries and powers, including China, Russia, Iran, and India to resolve the issue.

He also insisted that the main and key issues of the country should be discussed in the traditional Loya Jirga, grand council of the tribal elders, and the Afghan people should decide regarding their future and fate.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
CNN Scoffs: Conservatives Just Bringing Up ‘Discredited’ Uranium Story As A ‘Chance to Criticize Hillary Clinton'
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Friday morning the Clinton News Network was hard at work defending Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
, following a tense interview with Kellyanne Conway about the Russia-Uranium deal. CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, political correspondent Dana Bash and anchors John Berman and Alisyn Camerota blasted Conway and the right for their supposed "double standard" on the White House’s involvement with Russia.

Even though the media has been largely ignoring the shocking new details uncovered by The Hill last week, on the Uranium One deal, the panel flipped the blame, accusing the right of bringing up the "discredited" story simply to distract from Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia. Like the network has been doing all week, they framed the new report as a conspiracy theory invented by conservatives simply "to criticize Hillary Clinton."

"There's an incredible double standard from the White House and Kellyanne Conway on a range of issues when it has to do with the Russian investigation," Berman declared, to start off the discussion on CNN’s New Day, 8am PST Friday.

GOP House Chairmen Probe James Comey Handling of Hillary Clinton Investigation
[OpsLens] Whether you are an FBI enthusiast or not, something about the Hillary Clinton investigation conducted by former FBI director James Comey smells reminiscent of an open can of sardines sizzling under the sun. Two House of Representatives chairmen, Trey Gowdy (R ‐ SC) and Bob Goodlatte (R ‐ Virginia) want to conduct some cleanup, namely in the Justice aisle. Reps. Gowdy and Goodlatte are interested in the black eye of the FBI and the dubious role James Comey played regarding the Hillary Rodham Clinton email scandal.

Yes, the whole sordid former-Secretary of State saga looms and that can of worms continues to stink too.

A joint statement released on October 24, 2017 contained the following: "Decisions made by the Department of Justice [James Comey] in 2016 have led to a host of outstanding questions that must be answered," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC).

Rep. Trey Gowdy specified the crux of the matter, postulating "the decision to charge or not charge [Clinton] was made before all the witnesses were interviewed," implying some preferential treatment was provided. Why? Fundamental rule-of-law principle dictates the obvious full-court press until completion/confirmation that no other stones were left unchecked.

Marawi tunnels reveal ratlike Maute maneuvers
[Inquirer] The main battle zone in Marawi City resembles a tsunami-hit wasteland, with bullet-riddled mosques and a network of tunnels testifying to militant hide-and-kill tactics. Two days after the Philippine military declared an end to the five-month conflict, scrawny feral dogs and swallows flying above the ruins were among the few signs of life in the city's devastated neighborhoods.

Many buildings were just piles of gray rubble. The pink minaret of one mosque was so riddled by gunfire that most of its plaster had been stripped off and only its iron beams remained. A brief tour for journalists on Wednesday showed some of the terrorists’ ratlike survival techniques, including the digging of holes through concrete floors up to 25 centimeters thick. These connected to Marawi's drainage system, allowing them to scramble to nearby buildings undetected.

Samuel Yunque, commander of an Army Special Forces unit that fought the entire campaign, said the military also adapted to rebel tactics by blasting their own “rat holes” in walls between buildings so troops could move quickly without going back into the open streets.

In the early days of battle, Yunque said, his unit took two days using conventional tactics to rescue 16 crewmen of two armored vehicles that had been disabled by rocket-propelled grenades. He said, “They were surrounded by snipers on tall buildings and they were attempting to burn them alive by tossing molotov [firebombs] at their vehicles. When we rescued them they were singed and down to their shorts. They had their firearms but they had not eaten for days and were about to run out of bullets."

Romeo Brawner, deputy commander of the military task force, said on Sunday that the terrorists were trapped in a two-story commercial building by Lake Lanao. However, the final battle on Monday took place inside a mosque, claiming the lives of two soldiers and 42 militants, Armed Forces chief of staff Gen. Eduardo Año said.

At least 920 militants were killed during the siege of Marawi, while 165 troops and 47 civilians died, according to the military. The fighting displaced about 400,000 people, and made the eastern half of the city uninhabitable for many years. Authorities are only now beginning to grapple with a multibillion-dollar rehabilitation program.

Insurgent Danny Tarkanian Leads Mitch McConnell’s Incumbent Dean Heller 44 to 38 in Nevada

#1  The issue has never been whether candidates to the right of the GOP incumbent can defeat him in a primary - sometimes they can, and sometimes they can't. Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria forces liberate new areas around Dayr al-Zawr from Daesh grips
[PRESSTV] Syrian government forces have liberated a new area on the outskirts of the eastern city of Dayr al-Zawr as they continued their advance against the foreign-backed ISIS terrorists.

The Friday development came as the Syrian army and its allied forces managed to recapture a suburban area of the key city while inflicting heavy losses and casualties on the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
bully boys.

The latest operations by army-led forces were part of a larger offensive to entirely liberate the remaining areas surrounding Dayr al-Zawr still controlled by the terror group.

This is while Syrian state news agency SANA also reported Friday that army units clashed with ISIS holy warriors in a number of neighborhoods in the town of Mihkan, south of al-Mayadeen city towards al-Bokmal city.

According to the report, government forces also killed and injured many of the Death Eaters during the offensive and destroyed a number of their vehicles, including booby-trapped ones.

Trump suffers from personality disorder: Former GOP senator
[PRESSTV] A former US Republican senator, who is also a medical doctor, has said that President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
is suffering from a serious "personality disorder."

Tom Coburn, who served the US state of Oklahoma in the House of Representatives and then the Senate from 1995 to 2015, made the comment in an interview with the New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

published on Thursday.

"We have a leader who has a personality disorder," Coburn said, without elaborating on his medical opinion.

The former Republican senator, however, said that the party is not going to stop supporting the billionaire businessman, because "[Trump's] done what he actually told the people he was going to do, and they're not going to abandon him."

Coburn’s remarks came fresh after a number of senior Republicans rebuked the US president, with Senator Jeff Flake
...Republican junior senator from Arizona, elected in 2012. Prior to that he was a U.S. Representative for twelve years...
launching a blistering attack on Trump, saying that his behavior was "dangerous to democracy."

"Reckless, outrageous and undignified behavior has become excused and countenanced as telling it like it is when it is actually just reckless, outrageous and undignified," Flake said. "And when such behavior emanates from the top of our government, it is something else. It is dangerous to a democracy."

Saudi Arabia to invest $1bn into Richard Branson’s space venture
[DAWN] Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is poised to invest $1 billion in entrepreneur Richard Branson’s space-tourism and satellite-launching venture, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

The joint announcement had scarce details and described a nonbinding agreement, according to the publication, adding that the deal was announced at a three-day event organized by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to showcase Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s vision for a tech-driven economy.

"I’m pleased to announce the intention of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, pending approval by the US government, to invest approximately $1 billion into our US-based space companies, Virgin Galactic, The Spaceship Company and Virgin Orbit," said Branson in a statement on the Virgin Group website.

Syrian Army approaches Al-Qaeda stronghold near Aleppo-Hama border
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a big offensive in the northeastern countryside of Hama earlier this week, targeting the large patch of territory controlled by the al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group near the Ithriya-Khanasser Highway.

Led by the Qalamoun Shield forces of the 3rd Division and 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army stormed this area north of Salamiyah City in a bid to secure their primary supply route to the Aleppo Governorate.

Since launching this offensive earlier this week, the Syrian Arab Army has captured several villages and towns in the Salamiyah countryside, inching their forces closer to the al-Qaeda stronghold of al-Rahjan.

Rahjan is a large town located directly west of the Ithriya-Khanasser Highway and just south of the Hama-Aleppo provincial axis; it is also the location of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s largest military base in the Hama Governorate.

On Friday, the Syrian Arab Army continued their rapid advance towards Rahjan, capturing several towns from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham after breaking through their main line of defense east of the jihadist stronghold.

Al-Nusra Emir blown up in Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] Yet another high-ranking commander of terrorist group Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has been killed in Idlib Governorate, this time Abu Talha al-Ardni.

Al-Ardni, a Jordanian citizen and high-ranking "emir" of Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham, an affiliated organization of al-Qaeda that was formerly known as the al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front, was killed by an improvised bomb (IED) near Maar Dibsah in the western countryside of Idlib province.

Abu Tala al-Ardni was known as one of the most hardline HTS commanders, and was notorious for his extreme views even within the terrorist organization. For example, he was opposed to HTS going to war against ISIS, and was also an opponent of the organization’s ties to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. When Ottoman Turkish troops entered Syria recently, al-Ardni even called on Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham to fight them. While it is unclear so far who killed the Jordanian "emir", chances are that he was killed for these views.

Russia’s UN envoy tells US to abstain from comments on Assad’s future
[ALMASDARNEWS] Russia’s UN envoy, Vasily Nebenzya, on Thursday warned the United States against comments on the future of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
and his family.

"I think that we should not make predictions on anyone’s future. Time will show if someone has the future or not," Nebenzya said after the UN Security Council session on Syria.

The comment was made in response to a statement by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who said Washington "wants a whole and unified Syria with no role for Bashir al-Assad in the government."

"It is our view and I have said this many times as well that we do not believe that there is a future for the Assad regime and Assad family," he continued. "The reign of the Assad family is coming to an end."

French envoy Francois Delatre, who chairs the UN Security Council this month, refrained from making any comments on the US top diplomat’s statement. Instead, he said that the Security Council members have shown unity on the Syrian issue.

Sources confirm deteriorating Haqqani network and Pakistan relations

37 dead bodies found east of Benghazi
[Libya Observer] 37 unidentified bodies were found on Thursday in Dignity Operation’s stronghold town of Abyar, 50 km to the east of Benghazi.

Local sources said the bodies were found in Kassarat Road with signs of torture and gunshots to the head and chest.

The new crime comes just days after the discovery of bodies of two Ajdabiya rustics in Zeet Street in Benghazi.

The bodies were taken on trucks to the morgue of Benghazi Medical Center for forensic analysis.

In an unprecedented step, the interior ministry of eastern government has demanded an investigation into the crime to identify the perpetrators, which is seen by observers as a political maneuver to calm down growing anger over the dead bodies that are discovered every now and then.

Some Facebook groups loyal to Dignity Operation met the news of the dead bodies with joy, identifying the bodies as for "the Kharijites", a term Dignity Operation uses to describe its opponents.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Kim brother’s murder: video shows four N. Korean suspects
[DAWN] Prosecutors showed a Malaysian court airport security videos on Thursday that detail the movements of four North Korean suspects who allegedly planned and helped two women now facing possible death sentences kill Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
’s estranged half brother.

Police chief investigating officer Wan Azirul Nizam Che Wan Aziz told the court that one of the suspects, known only as "Hanamori," was believed to be the criminal mastermind of Kim Jong Nam’s death. He said security footage from the Kuala Lumpur airport showed the four men before and after the Feb 13 attack.

Vietnamese suspect Doan Thi Huong and Indonesian defendant Siti Aisyah are the only two people in jug. They pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to murder charges when their trial began Oct 2.

Wan Azirul testified earlier that the four male suspects on the lam were known only by pseudonyms. Prosecutors have said outside court that the four are believe to be North Koreans.

"My investigation howed that Hanamori played the role as the criminal mastermind of this incident," he said. Hanamori was also known as "Grandpa" or "Uncle." Wan Azirul said Hanamori arrived at the airport in the same vehicle with two others known as "Mr Chang" and "Mr Y" about 90 minutes before the attack. Security videos then showed Hanamori meeting separately with each of the men as well as a third person known only as "James" at an airport cafe before the attack on Kim.

Chang later met up with Aisyah at the same cafe, while Mr Y was seen walking around the airport with Huong near the area where Kim was attacked. The two men wore baseball caps and had backpacks. Mr Y was seen holding a water bottle, while Chang was also carrying a white plastic bag.

After the two women rubbed Kim’s face with a liquid later identified as VX nerve agent, video footage showed that Chang and Mr Y had changed their shirts and ditched their caps and backpacks. Wan Azirul said Chang had also shaved off his goatee. He said the two men then left the budget terminal in the same vehicle with Hanamori heading to the main airport terminal.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the congregants were being herded into the paddy wagon...
James was seen heading to the Sama-Sama airport hotel after the attack. The police official said security videos showed James entering the hotel room before checking out and he later was seen at the departure hall of the main airport terminal together with the other three men.

Wan Azirul previously testified Mr Y and Chang were believed to have put liquid on the women’s hands before they smeared it on Kim’s face, and that James was the recruiter of Aisyah. Defence attorneys have said the women believed they were participating in a prank for a TV show but prosecutors have said the women knew they were handling poison.

The trial was cut short after the judge said he wanted to review the videos and will resume on Nov 6.

Aisyah’s lawyer, Gooi Soon Seng, told news hounds before the trial that she was recruited in early January by a North Korean man known to her only as James to star in what he said were video prank shows. The lawyer said James and Aisyah went to malls, hotels and airports, where she would rub oil or pepper sauce on strangers’ faces. James recorded the encounters on his phone and paid Aisyah between $100 and $200 for each prank.

James later introduced Aisyah to a man he allegedly called Chang, who introduced himself as a producer of Chinese video prank shows, Gooi said. On the day of Kim’s death, Chang had pointed Kim out to Aisyah as the next target and put the substance in her hand, Gooi said.

Frederica Wilson has been missing in Congress for days. Her excuse: It's Trump supporters' fault
[BizPacReview] Imagine if President Trump stayed hidden in the White House because of threats made against him.

Florida congresswoman, Rep. Frederica Wilson, has not been seen in Washington, D.C. for days and it appears it’s all because of those Trump supporters.

The Democrat from Miami was all over the media last week condemning the president for a condolence call he made to the wife of Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in an Oct. 4 ambush in Niger. But after creating a torrential firestorm with her attacks, the lawmaker found herself the target of ongoing threats against her, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

Wilson last voted on Oct. 12, before a week-long break at the House, and has since missed 19 votes between Monday, Oct. 23 and Wednesday, Oct. 25, according to the Miami Herald.

In fact, a group photo of Congressional Democrats on the steps of the Capitol, wearing stickers with red cowboy hats in Wilson’s honor, was taken without the congresswoman present, the publication reported.

#7  SPOD: A perfect example of how the term "Yellow Dog Democrat" is still operative in the south.

It's diverse (i.e. black) voters casting ballots for diverse candidates. The 9:1 GOP to Dem diverse voting pattern also manifests itself in the South. The difference is that whites increasingly vote 7:3 or 8:2 for the GOP vs the Dems. If we can get that white voting pattern to propagate nation-wide, thanks to Democratic iconoclasm (i.e. removing statues of Confederate figures, as well as Washington, Jefferson and Columbus), the Dems will be out in the cold for a long, long time.

Houston Texans owner: 'We can't have the inmates running the prison"
[Breitbart] Houston Texans Owner Bob McNair raised eyebrows at an NFL meeting earlier this month, with an expression he made regarding anthem-protesting players, saying that we "can’t have the inmates running the prison." McNair has since apologized for the remark.

McNair reportedly made his initial comment during an October 17 NFL owners meeting held at league headquarters in New York, ESPN reported.

The NFL owner made his comment after fellow Texan Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, said that the anthem protest was killing TV ratings and hurting the NFL’s bottom line.

"See, Jones gets it ‐ 96 percent of Americans are for guys standing," McNair reportedly said. "We can’t have the inmates running the prison."

However, Executive Vice President of football Operations, Troy Vincent, bristled at the analogy. According to TMZ, "Vincent reportedly told McNair that he had been called all sorts of terrible slurs during his NFL career ‐ inlcuding the N-word ‐ but never felt like an "inmate."

Egyptian security kills 13 high-risk terrorists in Western Desert: Interior ministry
[AlAhram] Egypt's security forces killed 13 high-risk terrorist elements on Friday during a raid on an abandoned ranch building located at the 47km mark on the Assiut-Al-Kharga Oasis highway, the interior ministry said in a statement.

The operation "resulted in the seizure of a large amount of arms and ammunition, including detonative charges and boom belts, that were in the possession of the terrorist elements, who started opening fire at security forces upon their arrival at the shootout site," the statement said.

The approximate location of the raid is around 234 km south of Cairo.

"Security forces are currently working on identifying the slain terrorist elements, while the shootout resulted in some damages to a security vehicle."

The operation comes as part of the ministry's effort to eradicate terrorist hideouts in remote areas of Giza and of Upper Egypt governorates, said the statement.
Ynet adds a geographic note:
The state-run MENA news agency quoted an unnamed Interior Ministry official as saying the shootout was in the New Valley province, which covers a vast area of the western desert and shares part of the mostly non-existent border with Libya.

Europe
Global community rejects Catalan's independence declaration
[DAWN] French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy had his "full support" in enforcing the law in Catalonia as Madrid readies to take direct control of the rebellious province.

Catalan politicians voted on Friday to declare independence from Spain but Madrid moved swiftly to quash the breakaway bid in a sharp escalation of a crisis causing jitters in secession-wary Europe.

As thousands of pro-independence activists cheered outside, the regional parliament in Barcelona passed a resolution declaring Catalonia "a republic in the form of an independent and sovereign state".

"I have one partner in Spain, that's Prime Minister Rajoy... the rule of law prevails in Spain, with constitutional rules. He wants to ensure they are respected and he has my full support," Macron told news hounds on the sidelines of a visit to the overseas territory of French Guiana.

His Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian made it clear that La Belle France "does not recognise the declaration of independence".

Spain's constitution "must be respected," he added. "La Belle France wants a strong and unified Spain."

Earlier this week French backers of Catalonian independence offered "hospitality" to Catalan President Carles Puidgemont to lead a government-in-exile in Perpignan, a southern French city with deep Catalan roots.

La Belle France's Pyrenees-Orientales area was for centuries a part of Catalonia, only becoming French in the latter half of the 17th century.

Catalonia declares independence as Spain imposes direct rule

[PRESSTV] Catalonia's regional parliament has declared independence from Spain, while Madrid immediately imposed direct rule over the region.

The independence motion was approved in the 135-seat chamber on Friday as 70 Catalan lawmakers voted in favor, 10 against. Two ballot papers were blank. The ballot was boycotted by the opposition parties: the Socialist Party, the People's Party (PP) and Ciudadanos.

Commenting on the news, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy called for calm.

"I ask for calm from all Spaniards. The rule of law will restore legality in Catalonia," Rajoy said in a tweet minutes after Catalonia’s declaration of independence.

Spanish premier dismisses Catalan government, parliament

[PRESSTV] Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has dismissed Catalonia’s president and parliament hours after the region declared independence from Spain.

Speaking in a televised speech on Friday, Rajoy said a new regional election will be held in Catalonia on December 21.

Apart from removing Catalan President Carles Puigdemont, the Spanish premier also dismissed the region’s police chief and ordered central government ministries to take over the Catalan administration.

"Spain is living through a sad day," Rajoy said, noting, "We believe it is urgent to listen to Catalan citizens, to all of them, so that they can decide their future and nobody can act outside the law on their behalf."

#10  I like the way the Brits did it with Scotland. Let them have a vote and if they want independence let them have it. But also let them know who has been paying for the dole all these years and if they go independent they will have to start paying their own way.

Spain is not important enough for me to be concerned about whether or not it is "strong and unified". As far as I'm concerned, Spain is irrelevant.

And yes, grom, if it's bad for the EU it must be good.

Syrian Marines deploy to southeast Syria for new offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] A large convoy of Syrian Marines departed from the coastal province of Latakia, Thursday, to begin a new operation in Syria’s Badiya al-Sham area near the Jordanian and Iraqi border.

According to a military source, the Syrian Marines will attempt to clear the remaining rebel pockets in the Badiya al-Sham area, while also advancing towards the U.S. occupied Tanf Military Base near the Iraqi province of al-Anbar.

The Syrian Marines will be led by their commander, Colonel Aymen Jaber ‐ a successful Syrian businessman that joined his elder brother, Mohammad, in forming two powerful paramilitary forces inside the country.

The Syrian Marines are a battle-tested paramilitary force that have participated in several battles across Syria, including the northeastern Latakia and Palmyra campaigns.

Boy, held in chains, recovered from seminary in Sindh
[DAWN] Police recovered a child from a religious seminary in Tando Mohammad Khan where he had been kept bound in chains, officials said on Friday.

According to initial reports, 10-year-old Abdul Ghaffar Memon, son of Mohammad Rafiq Memon, was kept by force at the Madrassah Qasmiya in Anwar Colony, Tando Mohammad Khan. The child is a resident of the same locality.

The father claimed that he had sent his child to the seminary "because he was naughty and kept running away", Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nasim Ara Panhwar said.

SSP Panhwar said police had locked away
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
the father of the child and the head of the seminary, Maulana Sher Mohammad Rind, as they investigated the incident.

The child had been kept there for a week, she said, adding that a case has been registered at the city cop shoppe against Rind, Memon and his elder son, Abdul Jabbar.

The news surfaced after a section of media flagged reports that a child had been kept chained at a local seminary. Sindh's Inspector General of Police A.D. Khawaja had subsequently taken notice and ordered action. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the reports.

It emerged later, that the boy had raised a hue and cry in the seminary, which was located adjacent to a local FM radio station. Hearing the cries, the station's staffers rushed to the seminary and freed the boy, police officials and local journalists said.

In the meantime, Tando Mohammad Khan police had also received information of the incident. They rushed to the spot and brought the boy to the cop shoppe.

The boy told local journalists that he had been kept at the seminary for several days. He said that he was kept bound in chains round the clock and would only be allowed to go to the lavatory.

Around 180 students are currently residing in the seminary for religious education, of which 30 are from areas other than Tando Mohammad Khan.

Fusion GPS and the Washington Free Beacon
[Free Beacon] Since its launch in February of 2012, the Washington Free Beacon has retained third party firms to conduct research on many individuals and institutions of interest to us and our readers. In that capacity, during the 2016 election cycle we retained Fusion GPS to provide research on multiple candidates in the Republican presidential primary, just as we retained other firms to assist in our research into Hillary Clinton.

Chasing Grandeur? What You Need to Know about the 2017 French Strategic Review
Just a snip, much more at the link.
[WarOnTheRocks] France’s new Strategic Review has just been published. Yes, it is a Strategic Review and not a White Paper, and the change of name is more than just an exercise in rebranding. It is shorter, more concentrated, and more concise than a White Paper ‐ the 2013 version had 136 pages developed over seven different chapters. The new Review (only available in French for the moment, but an English version is due in November) sets out France’s priorities for the next ten years, and as stated by President Emmanuel Macron in the foreword, aims at "coming up with solutions to today’s great crises, promoting [France’s] values, and protecting its interests."

Unsurprisingly, the Review starts with a description of the world we live in, depicting a volatile strategic environment and identifying current and future threats and risks. Is that anything really new? Well, yes and no: The threats are more or less the same as those featured in the 2008 and 2013 White Papers ‐ terrorism, cyber-warfare, nuclear proliferation, pandemics, etc. ‐ yet they have become more pressing than ever. The context has also evolved: In the interim, Russia has invaded Ukraine, France has led two demanding interventions in Mali and the Central African Republic, and the country has been badly shaken by an unprecedented wave of terrorist attacks.

Against this backdrop, the Review cites terrorism, especially jihadist terrorism, as the most pressing threat ‐ which Macron clearly emphasized in his first speech to French ambassadors last August. This threat will not fade away in the coming years ‐ even after the defeat of ISIL ‐ and will likely reconfigure itself, extending into new regions whilst thriving "on chaos, civil war and the fragility of states." Terrorism will continue to strike against French and European populations, but this is sadly a fact of life that resilient societies will have to learn to live with.

Moreover, the Review notes that Europe and France are at this moment facing the "greatest concentration of challenges." The document adopts a 360-degree view, highlighting a series of issues. It starts with a destabilized Middle East and the conflict in Syria, continues with the resumption of war on Europe’s doorstep, and through a resurgent and aggressive Russia which endangers the European security architecture. In addition, it clearly states that other state actors such as China and Iran openly challenge the current world order, further contributing to chaos. And the Review goes on by pointing out other imminent issues: the migration crisis, persistent vulnerabilities in the Sahel region, the effects of climate change, pandemic risks, trafficking, and organized crime.

Among the worst-case scenarios, cyber has become the new asymmetric battlefield. Cyberattacks with catastrophic effects ‐ including attacks on critical infrastructure, like he attack against the French TV network TV5 Monde in 2015 ‐ are a reality, even while governments and militaries are depending on cyber for their daily business. This has led NATO (and France seems to endorse this point) to consider a cyberattack as an armed attack requiring an armed retaliatory response. This could have dire consequences, especially because of the ambiguity with which these wars are waged. More than an assessment of what is happening in the cyber domain, it underlines two key issues: first, that the basic principles of deterrence have been forgotten. Second, that there’s a missing ability to carefully assess the threshold at which a country or adversary can respond. This makes escalation, up to a nuclear strike, more likely, something that recent research has underscored.
The whole "hacking requires us to bomb you in response" was the casus belli that Hillary was going to use to drag us into a big shooting war with Russia. She could have even taken us up to Defcon 1. Thank God for Trump.

Army says has shot down 'Indian' drone 'spying' across LoC
[DAWN] Pakistain Army said Friday evening they had shot down an 'Indian' quadcopter they suspected of 'spying' on the Rakhchikri sector of Azad Jammu and Kashmire.

From the pictures tweeted by the director general of Inter-Services Public Relations, the army's media wing, it seemed that the quadcopter being used was of the commercially available variety of drones.

The army said it had seized the wreckage, likely for analysis purposes.

The story followed the Foreign Office's (FO) weekly briefing earlier in the day, in which the FO spokesperson had criticised US plans to sell drones to India as part of a military deal.

FO Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said the balance of power in the region would be disrupted because of the deal, and that providing sensitive military technology to India was akin to incitement of its 'misadventures'.

Hamas security chief hurt in Gaza ‘assassination bid’
[IsraelTimes] Tawfiq Abu Naim, director general of the internal security forces, said to be in moderate condition after kaboom in his car; Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, sources say Islamic State button men main suspects.

The head of Hamas security forces in the Gazoo Strip was injured Friday when his car went kaboom! in what the Hamas interior ministry called "a failed liquidation attempt."

It did not immediately give details of the source of the kaboom, in central Gazoo.

"Tawfiq Abu Naim, director general of the internal security forces, survived a failed liquidation attempt Friday after his car was blown up in the Nusseirat refugee camp," a ministry statement said.

"He was moderately maimed and was treated in hospital," it added. "The security services immediately began investigations to discover the circumstances of the incident and to catch the perpetrators."

The incident comes at a time of tension within Gazoo as its Hamas rulers are to start handing over power to the West Bank-based Paleostinian Authority of Fatah leader and Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
Both Hamas and Fatah condemned the incident and blamed it on "enemies" trying to undermine the reconciliation. However,

neither named the enemies, an unusual step for Hamas, which routinely blames Israel for such events.

A Hamas source told the Ynet news site that Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
affiliated Death Eaters were the main suspects.

As part of the Paleostinian unity deal that was brokered by Egypt, Hamas has had to crackdown on the IS button men who have been active on both sides of Gazoo’s border with Egypt have been fighting a bitter insurgency in the Sinai that has killed hundreds of Egyptian soldiers.

Abu Naim has been leading the recent Hamas efforts against IS.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the Popular Resistance Committees, a group of smaller terror groups in the Strip, blamed Israel, saying "the fingerprints of the Zionists are clear."

Abu Naim was a former prisoner that Israel freed with hundreds of others in exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011.
