Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: Israel vows to destroy Iranian positions within 40 km of Syrian border
Syrian President Bashar Assad reportedly offered Netanyahu a comprehensive deal that would include a demilitarized zone stretching 40 kilometers from the border.

Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida revealed on Sunday that an Israeli source disclosed a promise from Jerusalem to destroy all Iranian facilities within 40 kilometers (25 miles) of Israel's Golan Heights.

The source, who remains unnamed, said that during Syrian President Bashar Assad's surprise visit to Russia last week, Assad gave Russian Premier Vladimir Putin a message for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: Damascus will agree to a demilitarized zone of up to 40 kilometers from the border in the Golan Heights as part of a comprehensive agreement between the two countries, but only if Israel does not work to remove Assad's regime from power.

The report also claims that Putin then called Netanyahu to relay the message, and that the Israeli prime minister said he would be willing to accept the deal, but that Israel's goal of eradicating Iran and Hezbollah from the country would remain.

According to the source, Jerusalem sees Assad as the last president of the Alawite community, indicating that a change of regime in Syria - at least towards a government less-linked to Iran - would be favorable for Israel. The Alawites are a minority Shi'ite community in Syria, and have long been supported by Iran, which seeks to extend its influence from the Gulf across the region to the Mediterranean.

The source also commented that after the defeat of the Islamic State, the conflict in Syria would become ''more difficult,'' likely pointing towards a vacuum that would be left without the group. Russian, Syrian and Iranian-backed forces have been fighting against ISIS, while also seeking to knock out rebel groups that oppose the current regime. Russia's stated interests have been in line with Iran's in wanting to keep Assad in power.

Israel has participated mostly on the periphery of the war in Syria, responding to fire on the northern border and occasionally bombing positions, including a weapons depot and scientific research center that allegedly produces chemical weapons. Damascus and Jerusalem have exchanged heated remarks as well, with Netanyahu threatening to bomb Assad's palace, and Syrian officials warning of ''dangerous repercussions'' to Israeli strikes on Syrian targets.

Special counsel Mueller stands on reputation that belies a record including fumbles
[LA Times] When he was named special counsel in May, Robert S. Mueller III was hailed as the ideal lawman ‐ deeply experienced, strait-laced and nonpartisan ‐ to investigate whether President Trump’s campaign had helped with Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

The accolades squared with Mueller’s valor as a Marine rifle platoon commander in Vietnam and his integrity as a federal prosecutor, senior Justice Department official and FBI director from 2001 to 2013 ‐ the longest tenure since J. Edgar Hoover’s. He was praised by former courtroom allies and opponents, and by Democrats and Republicans in Congress.

But at 73, Mueller has a record that shows a man of fallible judgment who can be slow to alter his chosen course. At times, he has intimidated or provoked resentment among subordinates. And his tenacious yet linear approach to evaluating evidence led him to fumble the biggest U.S. terrorism investigation since 9/11.

Now, as he leads a sprawling investigation aimed at the White House, Mueller’s prosecutorial discretion looms over the Trump presidency.

On what terms would Mueller offer immunity from prosecution to investigative targets? How broadly will he interpret his mandate to look into not only the 2016 campaign but also matters that "may arise directly from the investigation"?

Will he target Trump’s sprawling family business and financial empire and the years before the developer ran for the White House?

What Do We Do with the Art of Monstrous Men?
Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Bill Cosby, William Burroughs, Richard Wagner, Sid Vicious, V. S. Naipaul, John Galliano, Norman Mailer, Ezra Pound, Caravaggio, Floyd Mayweather, though if we start listing athletes we’ll never stop. And what about the women? The list immediately becomes much more difficult and tentative: Anne Sexton? Joan Crawford? Sylvia Plath? Does self-harm count? Okay, well, it’s back to the men I guess: Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Lead Belly, Miles Davis, Phil Spector.

They did or said something awful, and made something great. The awful thing disrupts the great work; we can’t watch or listen to or read the great work without remembering the awful thing. Flooded with knowledge of the maker’s monstrousness, we turn away, overcome by disgust. Or … we don’t. We continue watching, separating or trying to separate the artist from the art. Either way: disruption. They are monster geniuses, and I don’t know what to do about them.

We’ve all been thinking about monsters in the Trump era. For me, it began a few years ago. I was researching Roman Polanski for a book I was writing and found myself awed by his monstrousness. It was monumental, like the Grand Canyon. And yet. When I watched his movies, their beauty was another kind of monument, impervious to my knowledge of his iniquities. I had exhaustively read about his rape of thirteen-year-old Samantha Gailey; I feel sure no detail on record remained unfamiliar to me. Despite this knowledge, I was still able to consume his work. Eager to. The more I researched Polanski, the more I became drawn to his films, and I watched them again and again—especially the major ones: Repulsion, Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown. Like all works of genius, they invited repetition. I ate them. They became part of me, the way something loved does.

I wasn’t supposed to love this work, or this man. He’s the object of boycotts and lawsuits and outrage. In the public’s mind, man and work seem to be the same thing. But are they? Ought we try to separate the art from the artist, the maker from the made? Do we undergo a willful forgetting when we want to listen to, say, Wagner’s Ring cycle? (Forgetting is easier for some than others; Wagner’s work has rarely been performed in Israel.) Or do we believe genius gets special dispensation, a behavioral hall pass?

And how does our answer change from situation to situation? Certain pieces of art seem to have been rendered unconsumable by their maker’s transgressions—how can one watch The Cosby Show after the rape allegations against Bill Cosby? I mean, obviously it’s technically doable, but are we even watching the show? Or are we taking in the spectacle of our own lost innocence?

And is it simply a matter of pragmatics? Do we withhold our support if the person is alive and therefore might benefit financially from our consumption of their work? Do we vote with our wallets? If so, is it okay to stream, say, a Roman Polanski movie for free? Can we, um, watch it at a friend’s house?

#4  They are monster geniuses, and I don’t know what to do about them.

Is there greater genius than monster on the scales of justice? Should the genius be diminished to the weight of monster, is there balance? Accept the destruction of genius as the wages of harboring a monster.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Nancy Pelosi: John Conyers deserves ‘due process' - he's an "icon"
But Roy Moore should withdraw
[NBC] House Democratic Leader Nancy "Blinky" Pelosi on Sunday urged "due process" before making conclusions about Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., following accusations of sexual harassment, saying the 27-term Congressman is "an icon like Ted Kennedy" who has worked to protect women.

"We are strengthened by due process. Just because someone is accused - and was it one accusation? Is it two?" Pelosi said on "Meet The Press."

"John Conyers is an icon in our country. He has done a great deal to protect women - Violence Against Women Act, which the left - right-wing - is now quoting me as praising him for his work on that, and he did great work on that," she added. "But the fact is, as John reviews his case, which he knows, which I don't, I believe he will do the right thing."

Conyers' office recently confirmed issuing a settlement of $27,000 to a former staffer who says she was fired for resisting the congressman's sexual advances
. Conyers has acknowledged the payout, which he amounted to a severance package, but he denied the allegations about what it was for.

The payout from Conyers' office first became public in a report published by Buzzfeed on Monday, and came after a number of men in powerful positions in politics, entertainment, and media have faced public accusations of sexual harassment. The accusations have opened up a national conversation about how women are treated in the workplace by men in positions of power.

When asked specifically whether she believes the accusations against Conyers, Pelosi said, "I do not know who they are. Do you? They have not really come forward to be savaged."

#1  Hot Air:
Gosh, I sure hope we don’t come to find out that Conyers’s behavior with women staffers has been an open secret on the Hill for decades and that his friend Nancy has heard the rumors for 30 years. What a legacy that would be for her, petrified to use her authority as Democratic leader to purge the gropers in her ranks. As a Twitter pal notes, this is smoking-gun proof that the recent left-wing navel-gazing over whether Bill Clinton should have resigned 20 years ago is cynical nonsense. Faced with credible allegations against a much less powerful Democrat in Conyers, one who’s waaaaaay past the age at which he should have retired and who’s also been accused of having lost some of his mental capacity, the leader of the caucus whiffs on demanding that he step down. And worse than that, she cites his “icon” status as a point in his favor. Clinton, Conyers, and basically every male member of the Kennedy family, living or dead, would smile at that. It may be the single creepiest thing she’s ever said in public life.

Indiana Nurse Under Investigation for Tweets about Killing White Babies
[PJ] Online Redditors and Twitter users tracked nurse Taiyesha Baker to Riley Children's Health, an affiliate of Indiana University Health in Indianapolis. PJ Media reached out to the hospital and received this statement:

We are aware of several troubling posts on social media which appear to be from a recently hired IU Health employee. Our HR department continues to investigate the situation and the authenticity of the posts. During the investigation, that employee (who does not work at Riley Hospital for Children) will have no access to patient care.

When asked which department Baker works in, the hospital declined to answer. Baker's Twitter feed was littered with anti-white sentiments. Redditors compiled a sampling here.

Britain
British Spy Novelist Reports POTUS Destroying US Intelligence Community
[Guardian] The Guardian has reported that John Le Carre, the famed British spy novelist, recently said of the Trump presidency: "something truly, seriously bad is happening and we have to be awake to that." Chillingly, he expressed alarm about the "toxic" parallels between the rise of President Trump and hard right regimes in Poland and Hungary and the rise of fascism in the 1930s.

Mr Le Carre may be overstating the risk of rising fascism but he is surely right to warn that many of Mr Trump’s early actions and words challenge fundamental tenets of democracy.

These challenges include his assertion that the media is "the enemy of the people", that news he doesn’t like is "fake news," that there were "good people" among the neo-Nazi demonstrators in Charlottesville, and that the Senate should change its rules to abolish the requirement for 60 votes to end a filibuster, thus eliminating the single most important protection of minority interests in our system of government.

At the same time, the Trump administration has mounted a systematic effort to "deconstruct the ’administrative state’" as his recently departed chief strategist, Steven Bannon, was fond of saying.

#6  Not too long ago I read The Looking Glass War by John Le Carre. The point of the book seemed to be that a great many people in the British intelligence community are full on bat shit crazy, delusional and longing for their glory days in WWII. It was so depressing I could barely get through it and I resolved never to read another one of his books. Many years earlier I read A Perfect Spy about an MI6 double agent who ended up committing suicide. Real inspirational stuff...not. The only redeeming theme in these books is that good old Smiley manages to police the organization and weed out the nut jobs. But who wants to rely on the one sane person in the mad house for national security?

If any little bit of what Le Carre writes is based on actual people and events then Trump is absolutely correct in his efforts to dismantle the intelligence community because it is full of delusional and dangerous freaks. OTOH, if Le Carre is a clinically depressed nut case, he should be ignored and so should his books. Either way it's no surprise that al Guardian is attempting to promote him.

In January 2003, The Times published le Carré's essay "The United States Has Gone Mad".[26] Le Carré contributed it to a volume of political essays titled Not One More Death (2006). Other contributors include Richard Dawkins, Brian Eno, Michel Faber, Harold Pinter, and Haifa Zangana.[27] [28]

In 2017, le Carré stated: "These stages that Trump is going through in the United States and the stirring of racial hatred ... these are absolutely comparable signs of the rise of fascism and it’s contagious, it’s infectious. Fascism is up and running in Poland and Hungary. There’s an encouragement about."[29]

Cornwell said he did not know his mother, who abandoned him when he was five years old, until their re-acquaintance when he was 21 years old. His father had been jailed for insurance fraud.

Insert joke.

Funny, I've visited both places--one this year--and, gee, I must have been in my hotel room and missed that "up and running" part.

Just go away, Le Carre. And, you just made me not want to ever read any of your books.

Man Goes Partially Blind After ‘Vigorous' romp
[Breitbart] A man went partially blind in one eye after "vigorous" sex caused him to orgasm too hard, according to a paper in the British Medical Journal.

The paper included the case study of a 29-year-old man, who told an emergency eye clinic that he noticed "an obstruction in the central vision of his left eye, which he had noticed on waking that morning."

The diagnosis was unclear at first, and clinicians asked the man to return for a follow-up visit three days later, according to the case study.

A different clinician asked the patient specific questions about his sexual activity. The patient responded that he had "vigorous sexual intercourse" the night before he started experiencing symptoms.

The doctor concluded that the man performed the "Valsalva maneuver," meaning that he tensed his abdominal muscles and held his breath during sex.

This caused a blood vessel in his eye to pop because of the increased pressure to his chest.

Let's stop pretending leftists care about abused women
[American Thinker] I find it tremendously sad that so many supposedly intelligent people who tell us how to run our lives are all of a sudden faking that in 2017 that powerful people have been mistreating people for years while they have intentionally looked the other way. They are obviously enablers.

I am 64 years old and have been working with other people for over 59 years, and I have never believed that it was OK to slap them on their behinds ‐ or any of the rest of the nasty stuff coming out now. I certainly have known not to hang around with pedophiles, let alone fly over two dozen times with a billionaire who procures underage girls for powerful men on an airplane called "Lolita" to something called "orgy island." (Somehow, almost all reporters have never cared about Jeff Epstein and Bill Clinton and still don't.) I also know that cigars are for smoking.

I have worked for seven employers after I graduated from college, and I didn't see any of them in possession of a slush fund for treating people badly. I would have been fired. How did anyone in Congress believe he had the right to use our money to pay claims and then keep them secret? Where was the appropriation? Was it the same place Obama stole unappropriated funds from to cover up losses in Obamacare? Who approved the payments? My guess is that a lot of people know whom the payments were made for. Why weren't those people expelled from Congress?

Ex-Cop Making Roy Moore Harassment Claim Is Leftist, Anti-Moore Opponent
[American Thinker] Few witnesses could be more damning against a purported sexual abuser of four decades ago than an ex-cop from that era. That is, unless the ex-cop has a hidden agenda. Like the former Gadsden, Alabama cop who claims police were told in the 1970s to ensure that now-GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore stayed away from teen cheerleaders ‐ and who actually turns out to be a left-wing Moore opponent.

Faye Gary created quite a stir last week with her comments, though she confessed to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that the claims about Judge Moore were "just rumors" and that "we never got a complaint on it."

What didn’t come out during her media interview ‐ in which she appeared sober and non-partisan ‐ is that she has an ideological axe to grind with the judge.

After confirming with the City of Gadsden Personnel Office that Gary actually had served as a police officer, I contacted her via a Facebook message. The passion and anger quickly emerged, with Gary making clear she objected to Moore’s stances on homosexuality, Islam and the display of the Ten Commandments.

In fact, the venom leapt from the page. Gary insisted that Moore will, as she put it, "pay for his stance on gays, Muslims and most of all for hiding behind the Ten Commandments for his political gain." She seemed to be implying that he’ll suffer some kind of divine retribution.

Gary also became vulgar. After I told her the Gadsden Mall’s ex-manager contradicted her claim that Moore was suspended from the facility and that this is what happens when you listen to the "rumor mill" (her term), she wrote, "Thanks for your opinion but they r just like a[**] h[***]s we all have one."

Federal Judge Overturns Texas Ban on Dismemberment Abortions
[Breitbart] A federal judge has struck down a Texas law that bans second-trimester dismemberment abortions, those in which an unborn baby is "torn limb from limb" and then extracted from the uterus.

U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel ruled that banning dismemberment abortion ‐ a form of "D&E" (dilation and evacuation) abortion ‐ places an "undue burden" upon women.

"The State’s valid interest in promoting respect for the life of the unborn, although legitimate, is not sufficient to justify such a substantial obstacle to the constitutionally protected right of a woman to terminate a pregnancy before fetal viability," the judge wrote.

In a medical animation video provided by pro-life organization Live Action, former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino demonstrates a second-trimester D&E abortion during which the abortionist uses instruments to remove the limbs from an unborn baby, between 13 to 24 weeks into a pregnancy, prior to extraction from the uterus:

Poor boys are falling behind poor girls, and it's deeply troubling
h/t Instapundit
It’s become a fact of American life that girls are better than boys at school. They get better grades. They’re suspended less. For every generation since the boomers, women have been more likely than men to earn high school and college diplomas.

...There are many theories for this widening academic achievement gap, but first, here’s another observation that might shed some light: The differences between boys and girls are largest among the most disadvantaged children. Socioeconomic status does not entirely explain the gender gap. Even well-off boys struggle to compare to well-off girls. But a tough upbringing sets boys back much farther.
Expected any different in schools run by third wave feminists?

prominent writer and actor Ziad Itani on Friday on charges of "collaborating" with Israel and gathering information on political figures, judicial sources said.

Itani was detained "after several months of monitoring, follow-up and investigations within and outside" Leb, said the State Security Directorate General, in a statement carried by Leb’s National News Agency.

It said Itani, who is in his 40s, was being questioned "on charges of collaborating and communicating with the Israeli enemy."

He had allegedly confessed to having been "tasked to monitor a group of high-level political figures" and their associates.

The security services also said he had been assigned the job of collecting information on "two prominent political figures" whose identities would be disclosed at a later stage.

Itani has shot to prominence in recent years because of a series of comedy plays on Beirut, its customs and the transformations it has undergone in recent decades.

The works ‐ particularly "Beirut Tariq al-Jdideh," which refers to a majority-Sunni neighbourhood of the city ‐ have been very well-received.

Before becoming an actor, Itani worked as a news hound with Leb’s al-Mayadeen television channel and with various regional newspapers.

Syria War Has Killed More Than 340,000
[AnNahar] Syria's grinding war has killed over 340,000 people since it broke out in 2011, including more than 100,000 civilians, a monitor said on Friday.

The corpse count increased as key international powers step up diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the brutal conflict, and just days before a fresh round of peace talks in Geneva.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP it has documented 343,511 deaths in Syria between the eruption of an anti-government uprising in mid-March 2011 and the start of this month.

Among them are 102,618 civilians, including nearly 19,000 children and 12,000 women.

More than 119,000 pro-government forces have been killed, including 62,000 Syrian troops, tens of thousands of loyalist militiamen, and 1,556 fighters from Lebanese movement Hezbollah, according to the estimate.

Another 59,000 fighters from rebel groups, Islamist factions, and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces were also killed.

Jihadist groups suffered the biggest blow, with the more than 62,200 deaths representing an increase of 4,000 since the Observatory published its last toll in July.

Overall during the past four months, nearly 12,000 people died across the country -- including 3,001 civilians.

A "de-escalation deal" agreed in May of this year has brought relative calm to some of Syria's bloodiest battlefields, but violence has ratched up elsewhere.

Russian-backed Syrian troops and US-backed militia waged parallel but separate offensives against the Islamic State

group, including in two major cities: Raqa and Deir Ezzor.

"Although the de-escalation agreements brought a drop in civilian deaths, the fierce offensives against IS in other areas made it so that civilians were dying at the same pace," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman.

The Observatory relies on a network of sources across Syria that includes gangs, government sources, medics, and activists.

Colorado child sex trafficker gets record 472-year sentence
[RT] A child sex trafficker in Colorado has been sentenced to 472 years in prison. It’s been said to be the longest sentence in a human trafficking case in US history, with prosecutors originally seeking 600 years.

Brock Franklin, 31, was sentenced Tuesday by Arapahoe County Judge Peter Michaelson. In March, an Arapahoe County jury found Franklin guilty of 30 counts of operating a prostitution ring that preyed on maiden of tender yearss and women. Among the counts were violations of Colorado’s organized crime control act, charges of pimping a child, human trafficking and sexual assault.

"A 400-year sentence sends a strong message across the country that we’re not going to tolerate this kind of violence to women and vulnerable populations," Janet Drake of the Colorado Attorney General’s office told Fox News.

Prosecutors said Franklin used drugs and violence to control maiden of tender yearss, routinely forced them to have sex with him, and sold their services online. The crimes played out at various hotels across the greater Denver metro area.

One of the nine female victims, Brehannah Leary, told COWX about the violence Franklin often used to keep the women in line.

"Every day the beatings, the name callings, the shavings of one’s head," Leary said. "I can’t begin to even explain what he did to my life," she told the court.

"He took so much from me, and I’m still fighting to get it back," another victim told the judge during sentencing. "You have no idea the damage he has caused to the other women and myself."

Franklin was originally indicted with six others by a grand jury in 2015. Five pleaded guilty to various crimes. Charges against one of the men were dismissed. In October, a judge determined that Franklin was a habitual offender, which led to sentencing enhancers kicking in.

Franklin’s defense team originally asked for the minimum sentence of 96 years behind bars, but victims and prosecutors pushed for more.

Death toll in Iran quake rises to 456 486
[RUDAW.NET] The corpse count for the powerful earthquake that hit on the Kurdistan Region-Iran border has risen to 456 following the deaths of 11 people in hospital, Iran’s forensic office stated on Saturday.

It said the most recent victims had died over the past few days in hospitals in Kermanshah province.

The majority of the deaths with 400 have been in the Kurdish town of Sarpol-e Zahab. One person from the town is still missing.

The 7.3 magnitude earthquake on November 12 injured over 7,800 people in Iran. A total of 427,266 people are affected by the quake, according to the Iranian Red Islamic Thingy.
Update from Al Ahram at 11:40 a.m. ET:
The number of dead in a major earthquake that hit Iran's western province of Kermanshah this month has risen to 483, official news agency IRNA said.

The rise from a previous toll of 436 reported last week came after some people died from their injuries and authorities identified several dead who were buried in haste, IRNA and other Iranian media outlets said.

The 7.3-magnitude quake struck the mountainous region bordering Iraq late on November 12, injuring more than 12,000 people and leaving thousands homeless.

Eight people were killed in neighbouring Iraq.

Launch to prove Earth is flat delayed by US govt
[RT] The self-styled "World's Most Famous Limousine Driver" Mike Hughes, 61, has suffered a setback in his attempts to prove the Earth is flat. On Saturday, a federal agency blocked his homemade rocket launch by withholding permission to use public land.

The steam-powered rocket was scheduled to take off in Amboy, Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, a ghost town in the Mojave Desert along route 66, but Hughes couldn't get permission from the Bureau of Land Management to conduct the launch. Hughes claims he was given verbal permission over a year ago while awaiting final approval from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

"It's still happening. We're just moving it three miles down the road," Hughes told The Washington Post Friday. "This is what happens anytime you have to deal with any kind of government agency. I don't see [the launch] happening until about Tuesday, honestly. It takes three days to set up... You know, it's not easy because it's not supposed to be easy."

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) told the Washington Post that there were no official records of contact between the agency and Hughes and that he had not requested the special recreation permit required to conduct the launch.

Iraq
Iraq forces open new front in final push against Islamic State group
[Al Ahram] Iraqi forces thrust north from the Euphrates Valley into the desert on Saturday, opening up a new front in the drive to flush out runaway IS group murderous Moslems, a commander told AFP.

IS has already been driven from all the towns it once held, but Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said he will not proclaim victory until the murderous Moslems have been cleared from the western desert bordering Syria.

Troops and paramilitaries had advanced into the desert from the east and north on Thursday at the start of an offensive aimed at inflicting a final defeat on the murderous Moslems.

On Saturday, troops and tribal militia pushed north from al-Qaim and Rawa, two Euphrates Valley towns recaptured from IS earlier this month, in a pincer movement against retreating IS fighters, one of the operation's two commanders told AFP.

"It's a matter of linking up with the forces advancing from Nineveh" province in the north, the commander said, asking not to be identified.

"The aim of the operation is to clear the desert right up to the Syrian border and hunt down the murderous Moslems who fled into the desert from the towns that have been liberated."

The Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) paramilitary force, which has played a key role in the offensive, said 100 villages and hamlets had already been cleared of IS fighters.

"The battle for the desert is very important because it's from there that ISIS fighters coming from Syria can attack our defence lines," said Hashed number two Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

Youtube boots video channels to cleanup kidz programming
Their platform, their rules
LOS ANGELES — Google-owned YouTube, which has been under fire for allowing kids programming to get out of control with violent and exploitative content aimed at older audiences, announced several steps Wednesday to wipe out these viral videos.

In a blog post, YouTube said it had toughened its guidelines for acceptable content, and had in the past week kicked off 50 channels and removed "thousands" of videos under the guidelines.

YouTube said it had changed policies to remove ads from inappropriate videos that target families and block inappropriate comments on videos featuring minors.

"We also implemented policies to age-restrict (only available to people over 18 and logged in) content with family entertainment characters but containing mature themes or adult humor," said Johanna Wright, vice president of product management at YouTube, in the blog post. "To help surface potentially violative content, we are applying machine learning technology and automated tools to quickly find and escalate for human review."

Textbooks -- kudos to Punjab
[DAWN] MANY think that our education rot is irreversible. Among countless other problems one stands out ‐ school textbooks written and produced in Pakistain. These are probably the world’s worst. For decades, children have studied from books printed upon smudgy newsprint replete with mistakes, stuffed with materials containing hate against other peoples and religions, and impoverished of actual subject content.

There’s now a ray of hope. Last week, two towering piles of books from the Punjab

Loose moose in Toronto
[RT] A moose running through residential neighborhoods and fences in the Toronto area has authorities on the hunt. So far, no ruse could induce the recluse footloose moose, who vamoosed without any excuse.
Someone actually got paid after he or she wrote that.
On Friday, the moose was spotted sprinting across residential areas in Markham, Canada, which is a city in the regional municipality of York in the greater Toronto area. But the moose has since lost some of its luster, and is now resting in a ravine, according to the CBC.

Authorities are currently waiting to pick the best time to move in and tranquilize the animal.

A spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police’s Highway Safety Division says the moose probably made its way down from where it lives near the Rouge River, Blogto reported.

Eric Cole, a wildlife care manager at the Toronto Zoo, said it’s crucial that the animal be captured before dark, or it will be hard to track, the CBC reported.

"You have [to] immobilize it. You're talking about an animal that's 1,400 lbs ‐ it's sheer power and it's not used to human contact. You can't throw nets on it, so it needs to be tranquilized," he said.

Cole added: "It's very unusual for it to come this far south," and said the wild moose has "come quite a bit out of his natural habitat."

In Zim-bob-we alone, he is believed to own more than 100 properties.

His lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku, argued that the ex-minister was taken from his home by masked button men on November 15, the day Zim-bob-we's army seized control of the state and said it was "targeting criminals" around Mugabe, who was sent to his room.

Chobo had to be admitted to a government hospital for injuries allegedly sustained from beatings while in detention, according to Madhuku.

Trump calls for crushing terrorists with military means
[ARABNEWS] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
denounced the deadly mosque attack in Egypt and reached out to its president, asserting the world must crush bully boyz by military means ‐ and insisting the US needs a southern border wall and the travel ban tied up in courts.

"Need the WALL, need the BAN!" Trump tweeted Friday before calling Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. "God bless the people of Egypt."

The attack’s aftermath played out as Trump mixed work and play in sunny Florida, golfing ‐ quickly, he claimed ‐ with pros Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson, speaking with foreign leaders and tweeting briskly.

Trump spoke with Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...

before his attention turned to the attack in Egypt, where more than 300 people were killed when bully boyz attacked a crowded mosque during prayers in the Sinai Peninsula, setting off explosives and spraying worshippers with gunfire.

"The world cannot tolerate terrorism," Trump tweeted in response. He added, "We must defeat them militarily and discredit the krazed killer ideology that forms the basis of their existence!"

In his call with El-Sisi, the White House said Trump condemned the attack and "reiterated that the United States will continue to stand with Egypt in the face of terrorism."

"The international community cannot tolerate barbaric terrorist groups and must strengthen its efforts to defeat terrorism and extremism in all its forms," the White House said.

Trump also used the attack to renew his call for a wall along the southern border with Mexico and his efforts to bar people from certain Moslem-majority countries from coming to the US.

"We have to get TOUGHER AND SMARTER than ever before, and we will," he wrote. "Need the WALL, need the BAN! God bless the people of Egypt."

Trump’s original travel ban sought to temporarily suspend the US refugee program and block the entry of nationals from seven majority-Moslem counties into the US The order sparked chaos at airports and a flurry of lawsuits, which led to the order’s suspension. The administration has since made several attempts to revise the order to try to better hold up to legal scrutiny.

Trump spent more than four hours at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida, where he’d earlier tweeted that he would be playing "golf (quickly) with Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson" before returning to his private Mar-a-Lago club "for talks on bringing even more jobs and companies back to the USA!"

US wants to divide Sudan into 5 parts -- president
Golly — Gaul only got three parts. But this sounds like someone is projecting.
[RT] Washington is eager to divide the already-split Northern African country of Sudan into 5 parts, the country’s President Omar al-Bashir has said. The President told RIA Novosti agency of his concerns during his visit to Russia. "We have information that the US desire is to divide Sudan into five states if we don't find protection," al-Bashir said in an interview. The Sudanese leader added the country faces “great pressure” from the US, which he blames for “ravaging the Arab world” citing the situations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Yemen as examples.

Sudan has requested Russian fighter jets and can further ask for S-300 air defense system as the country currently uses old Soviet ones, according to the president.

“We requested Su-30 [fighters] because they cover the Sudanese airspace, as well as Su-35. We have no intentions to carry out aggression abroad, we want to protect our country,” al-Bashir stated.

Kenyan Al Shabaab Recruits Fleeing US Airstrikes In Somalia

terrorists, military sources confirmed on Friday.

The recruits have been accused of spying for the US Central Intelligence Agency and others targeting the Lion of Islams’ camps in Somalia.

Joseph Kanyiri, director of the Boni Enclave Campaign, said some of those running away is part of the Jaish Ayman elite squad, made up of many Kenyans.

Kanyiri noted a multi-agency team has scaled up security along the border with Somalia to deal with armed fighters.

On Tuesday, more than 100 Lions of Islam were killed in a camp 125 miles northwest of Mogadishu.

"We are aware the condition in Somalia is not conducive to them and that they have decided to flee to the country. We urge them to surrender to authorities," he told The Star on Friday.

Somalia’s government said on Wednesday it had requested the Arclight airstrike which killed suspected Lions of Islam to help pave the way for an upcoming ground offensive against al-Shabaab.

"Those Lions of Islam were preparing explosives and attacks. Operations against al-Shabaab have been stepped up," Abdirahman Omar Oman, the Somali minister, told Rooters.

"We have asked the US to help us from the air to make our readied ground offensive more successful."

Libya navy says over 30 migrants dead, 200 rescued off coast
[Al Ahram] More than 30 migrants colonists died and 200 were rescued on Saturday after their boats foundered off Libya's western coast, the Libyan navy said.

The coastguard conducted two rescue operations off the city of Garabulli, 60 kilometres (40 miles) east of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, front man Colonel Abu Ajila Abdelbarri said.

He added that patrols had found 31 bodies and 60 survivors from one boat, along with a further 140 survivors from a second.

"When we arrived at the spot, we found an inflatable dinghy with several people clinging to part of it," he said. He did not specify whether any people had been reported missing.

"The weather conditions these days are favourable for sending migrants colonists to European shores on boats that are often unseaworthy," he added.

Libyan patrol boat commander Nasser al-Ghammoudi said one of the vessels was three-quarters under water when the coastguard arrived.

"We looked for other survivors for more than five hours," he said. "We were able to rescue one woman after we heard her shouts."

A French NGO, SOS Mediterranee, said later Saturday that it had rescued over 400 people from a stricken wooden boat in international waters further from the Libyan coast.

Egyptian court issues final death sentence against 7 in Libya Daesh cell case
[Al Ahram] Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Saturday seven members of what is known in the media as the "Libya terrorist cell" to death on a number of terror-related charges.

The court’s final verdict came following referral last September to the country’s Grand Mufti for a consultative non-binding opinion, as per Egypt’s penal code.

The court also ordered life sentences on 10 other defendants, and 15 years on three defendants in the case.

The defendants are charged with joining a terrorist cell in Egypt's governorate of Marsa Matrouh affiliated with the ISIS holy warrior group in Libya.

The defendants are also charged with joining training camps of the terrorist group in Syria and Libya, and obtaining military training, as well as planning terrorist acts in Egypt.

According to the court order, the defendants committed their alleged crimes between 2012 and 2016 in Matrouh, Cairo and Alexandria governorates.

The defendants were also charged with participating in the beheading of 21 Egyptians in the Libyan coastal city of Sirte claimed by ISIS in February 2015.

The defendants were locked away
Please don't kill me!
in Hamam City in Matrouh governorate in 2015 and accused of conducting attacks on a cop shoppe and vital establishments in the city.

In November 2016, the case was referred to court, after the State Security Prosecution revealed the defendants were also involved in attacks on Christians in their governorate, as well as hiding and training seven German citizens who were planning to join ISIS in Libya.
More from The Times of Israel at 8:40 a.m. ET:
In February 2015, Libya [ISIS] posted a video on the internet of the beheadings on a Libyan beach, sparking international condemnation and Egyptian Arclight airstrikes against jihadist targets in the neighboring country.

In May, Egypt again struck what it said were jihadist targets in Libya after IS claimed a massacre of Coptic Christians on their way to a monastery south of Cairo.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said military reverses for IS in war-torn Syria were driving its fighters to try to relocate to Libya and the Sinai Peninsula of eastern Egypt.

US warns of 'damage to bilateral ties, Pakistan’s reputation' over Hafiz Saeed's release
[DAWN] The White House has called Pakistain's release of Jamaat-ud-Dawa

(JuD) leader Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
a "step in the wrong direction" and said a refusal to re-arrest him would damage bilateral ties and Pakistain's reputation around the world.

In a statement on Saturday, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the US "strongly condemns" the release of Hafiz Saeed from house arrest. She urged his "immediate re-arrest and prosecution".

"Saeed's release, after Pakistain's failure to prosecute or charge him, sends a deeply troubling message about Pakistain's commitment to combatting international terrorism and belies Pak claims that it will not provide sanctuary for holy warriors on its soil," she said.

"If Pakistain does not take action to lawfully detain Saeed and charge him for his crimes, its inaction will have repercussions for bilateral relations and for Pakistain's global reputation," Sanders said.

On Friday, Washington had urged Pakistain to re-arrest Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT) leader Hafiz Saeed and charge him with the crimes he was accused of committing.

Saeed was released before dawn on Friday after a three-judge panel in Lahore High Court ended his detention in Lahore. Saeed's front man Yahya Mujahid called it a "victory of truth."

Addressing a sermon at Lahore's Jamia Masjid Al Qadsia a day after walking free, Saeed said he was "fighting for the freedom of Pakistain and Kashmire."

The move outraged both US and Indian authorities.

"India is outraged that a self-confessed and a UN proscribed terrorist is allowed to walk free and continue with his agenda," Raveesh Kumar, India's foreign ministry front man, told news hounds at a weekly briefing in New Delhi.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s ‘unshakeable position against extremism is based on Shariah’
[ARABNEWS] Mohammed bin Amin al-Jeffery, deputy chairman of Shoura Council, stressed that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s position on terrorism and extremism is a firm one deriving from the Islamic Shariah, the source of the Kingdom’s statutes and regulations.

Al-Jeffery was speaking on Friday at the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
Parliamentary Assembly Joint Seminar of the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group and the Sub-Committee on Transatlantic Defense and Security Cooperation at the Italian Parliament headquarters in Rome.

Al-Jeffery underlined the Kingdom’s efforts in fighting terrorism, including the establishment of the Islamic Military Alliance, hosting the historic Arab-Islamic-American Summit in May 2017 and adopting historic and strong decisions to fight terrorism in all its forms and stop its finance, as well as the establishment of the Ideological War Center in Riyadh to combat extremism.

He also pointed out that the Kingdom has signed and ratified the UN resolutions fighting terrorism and the terror-financing sources, enacted many regulations fighting this scourge, criminalized any participation in hostilities, and adopted a blacklist of the terrorist organizations around the world, including ISIS, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda, and the Houthis.

Al-Jeffery added: "Saudi Arabia is a target for the terrorist organizations. Since 1992, more than 100 terrorist operations have attacked the Kingdom. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the Kingdom has foiled 260 terrorist operations and helped save many lives in friendly states by sharing intelligence, participated in every international effort against this scourge and supported the UN with a generous amount of $100 million."

Italian Premier Paolo Gentiloni opened the forum, saying that NATO has a lot of responsibilities in ensuring stability and security around the world. NATO and other friendly states are facing many challenges, the main one being terrorism. He also stressed the importance of international cooperation in standing united against this scourge.

On the sidelines of the forum, al-Jeffery met with Paolo Alli, chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Al-Jeffery stressed that the Kingdom is keen to promote bilateral relations in all organizations, to collaborate in clarifying the Kingdom’s position on issues of common interest, and to participate in every effort aiming to promote security and stability in the world.

On his side, Alli stressed the importance of the Kingdom’s role on the regional and international map, and its great efforts that contribute directly in supporting the world’s security and peace.

The Saudi delegation at the meeting included two members of Shoura Council, Mohammed al-Matiri and Dr. Ali al-Naim, the Saudi Ambassador to Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and Head of the Kingdom’s Mission to the EU, Abdulrahman bin Suleiman al-Ahmad.

Cutler, who was formerly the legal attaché of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Manila, told Arab News, "In my view, this is a long overdue action by the Philippine government."

Peace talks with the Death Eaters ‐ who have been waging war against the GRP for nearly half a century ‐ have been going on, albeit intermittently, for more than two decades.

Since they began, in 1986 during President Corazon Aquino’s regime, more than 40 rounds of talks have been conducted between the GRP and the NDF-CPP-NPA, according to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process.

But, as Cutler pointed out, the rebels do not recognize the legitimacy of the GRP, and have for years displayed a lack of sincerity in dealing with the government. In fact, Cutler suggested, their recent activities have shown that they are more interested in full political power in the Philippines.

"That’s why there’s no way to negotiate with them," he explained. "So why even go through the charade ‐ except to have the government pay for free trips wherever they hold the negotiations? The communists are not sincere. There’s no way that they’re going to agree to anything that the government says."

He added that Duterte’s Proclamation No. 360 (announcing the cessation of the peace talks) is "a statement of reality."

Cutler warned, though, that it would be no surprise if the NPA ‐ the armed wing of the CPP ‐ were to step up its attacks on government troops, police, and civilians in retaliation.

All units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are already on high alert for such eventualities, according to AFP spokesperson Maj. Gen. Restituto Padilla.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
even if such attacks take place, Cutler said they would only validate the president’s decision. "So they run the risk of either reinforcing what (the president) has done, or having to accept it."

And with peace talks officially terminated, Cutler said, Duterte is no longer constrained by the need to ensure the rebels would still participate in the grinding of the peace processor, meaning the GRP can now pursue the rebels more aggressively.

So now, he said, the government can really go after the rebels, take them to court, and arrest them, especially if they kill people and commit other criminal offenses.

"It’s not for political advantage. It’s for criminal offense," Cutler said.

The security analyst adds, though, that fighting the rebels ‐ whether physically or in court ‐ cannot be the sole focus of the government’s response.

"I think what the government needs to do is (launch) a social-reform program where they are providing good schools, credible elections, and credible government services in areas that are heavily (influenced) by the NPA," Cutler said. "By doing that, you are destroying the NPA’s argument, which is essentially that the government is illegitimate and can’t do what the state ought to be doing," he continued.

"Drugs and corruption," Cutler suggested, are two of the key things "that allow the NPA to move forward." So Duterte "is going to have to start doing some work with anti-corruption."

Ultimately, Cutler sees the official termination of the talks as a great opportunity for the president.

"This is across the board offering, or allowing, (Duterte) to change the way he governs in the NPA areas," he said.

Facial reconstructions of historical figures
Why content yourself with portraits of historical figures when you can come face to face with one? Through a combination of history, science and artistic interpretation, researches were able to create 3D models of the faces of famous people in history. The results may be subjective, but they’re incredibly fascinating.

Arabia
Banning extremist Muslim scholars
[ARABNEWS] The Anti-Terror Quarter (ATQ) ‐ comprising Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain ‐ has added two more radical Islamic organizations and 11 krazed killer individuals to its terrorism list.

The classification of the International Union of Moslem Scholars (IUMS) ‐ which was established by the Moslem Brüderbund and supported by Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
‐ and its sister organization the International Islamic Council (IIC), was a late step. Prohibiting dealing with these two organizations, especially the IUMS, should have happened sooner.

Since its inception, which coincided with the rise of al-Qaeda, the IUMS has represented a threat to Islamic societies and moderate Islam worldwide. The IUMS was established in Qatar in 2004 while al-Qaeda was carrying out bombings and killing people in the name of Islam. They share the same krazed killer ideology.

IUMS members justified violence and started an intellectual war with muftis and traditional Islamic scholars, undermining them in their home countries and ridiculing their religious edicts.

Saudi scholars from the traditional Salafi school prohibited jihadist operations since the 1990s, because such operations are carried out without state permission. This infuriated IUMS muftis, who tried to justify "martyrdom operations." The IUMS also engaged in the destruction of major, legitimate Islamic institutions such as the Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia and al-Azhar in Egypt.

Terrorism hiding behind the guise of Islam started at the same time as the establishment of councils that issued radical religious edicts. Like al-Qaeda and ISIS, these councils considered themselves international rather than domestic.

Al-Qaeda’s birth coincided with that of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) in 1997 in London, headed by radical preacher Yusuf Qaradawi. al-Qaeda opened branches all over the Middle East and Europe, as did radical councils and associations.

The most dangerous side of terrorism is krazed killer thought. As such, had it not been for religious personalities and associations incubating krazed killer scholars, and had it not been for Qatar offering them a base and huge funds, the birth, spread and militarization of krazed killer thought worldwide would not have been possible.

Egyptian air raid kills 'terrorist' mosque attackers
[Al Jazeera] The Egyptian army says an air raid killed some of the attackers involved in Friday's massacre when at least 305 people died in a bomb-and-gun attack on a mosque.

In a statement late on Friday, army front man Tamer Rifai said the Egyptian air force chased down the assailants who, according to officials, arrived in four 4WD vehicles and carried out the attack during noon prayers.

"The air forces chased the Death Eaters and discovered and destroyed a number of vehicles that were involved in carrying out the brutal terrorist attack ... Those on board were also killed," Rifai said.

The massacre occurred in Bir al-Abed, a town in North Sinai province.

The mosque - about 40km west of el-Arish, the historic provincial capital of North Sinai - was frequented by followers of Sufism, a more mystical form of Islam.

Death toll in Egypt mosque attack rises to 305

[DAWN] Egypt’s chief prosecutor said in a statement on Saturday that the attack on a Sinai mosque a day before has killed 305 people, including 27 children.

In his statement, Nabil Sadeq said that the attack also left 126 people maimed.

Sadeq said the attack was carried out by 25-30 hard boyz who arrived at the mosque in the small town of Bir al-Abd in five all-terrain vehicles. The hard boyz stationed themselves at the mosque’s main door and 12 windows before opening fire on worshippers inside. They also torched seven cars belonging to the worshippers that were parked outside.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack, the deadliest by Islamic Death Eaters in Egypt’s modern history. The mosque is frequented by Sufi Moslems, a mystic school of Islam that hard boyz consider heretic.
More from Ynet:
The chief prosecutor then went on to shed some light on the attack and its details, saying 25-30 terrorist carrying Islamic State (IS) banners participated in the assault, despite the fact IS had yet to claim official responsibility.

El-Sisi reportedly ordered Chief of staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Sedki Sobhy and Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar to have the army conduct far-reaching military and security operations in the north and center of the Sinai Peninsula. Threat levels were also raised all across Egypt, with the Interior Ministry saying exiting security will be increased in places of worship and vital facilities.

Egyptian air force, infantry and civilian police forces will all participate, according to reports, under the direction of the army's chief of staff.

The Egyptian army said its attack on terrorist strongholds in northern Sinai was underway and published a video documenting alleged air force attacks. An Egyptian army spokesman said Friday dozens of terrorists were killed in such airstrikes.

Arabic-language Sky News reported 30 terrorists killed by Egyptian forces in the village of a-Risan in central Sinai as part of security raids, whereas the Al Arabiya network reported Egyptian infantrymen massively descended on several targets in Egyptian Rafah.

The attack took place only a day before the Rafah Border Crossing connecting Egypt and the Gaza Strip was slated to be reopened again for three days.

Many of those killed and wounded in the attack were reported to belong to the local a-Sawarka tribe, which refused to align itself with Islamic State forces in the peninsula and therefore suffered the alleged revenge attack.

Media falls for fake Chad intervention story following CNN auction report
[Libya Herald] Media across Africa have fallen for a story claiming that in the wake of the CNN investigation into sub-Saharan African migrants colonists being auctioned in Libya Chad is planning to intervene in the country.

Publications from the Comoros to Mali, Benin to Senegal
... a nation of about 14 million on the west coast of Africa bordering Mauretania to the north, Mali to the east, and a pair of Guineas to the south, one of them Bissau. It is 90 percent Mohammedan and has more than 80 political parties. Its primary purpose seems to be absorbing refugees...
, and even further afield, have published the story in which a Chadian army spokesperson was quoted supposedly saying that his country’s forces would free the migrants colonists and deal with "the slavers who keep them".

"Demonstrations in front of Libyan embassies and indignation on social media will not change anything," a certain Colonel Fader Amel was quoted as saying in the local media. "Two battalions of our valiant soldiers and the problem will be solved in a few days."

Social media in Libya, too, ran with the report.

The story was in fact a joke and originated in an online satirical publication called State Afrique. A little checking would have revealed that the colonel was previously quoted by the same French-language site saying that in the wake of the Paradise Papers revelation, Chad was prepared to invade and annex tax havens such the Caymen Islands, the Isle of Man and Bermuda, and, even earlier, would invade North Korea.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
in the furore since the CNN investigation, a calm and composed reaction has not been particularly evident.

Islamabad protesters 'contacted India', claims Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal
[DAWN] Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday claimed that religious parties protesting in Islamabad had 'contacted India', and that the government was investigating the matter.

Speaking to DawnNews, Iqbal said: "They are not your average citizens. We can see that they have various resources at their disposal. They have fired tear gas shells [at security forces], they also cut the fibre optic cables of cameras that were monitoring their protest."

The interior minister said the protesters had also "contacted India".

"Why they did it, we are looking into it. They have inside information and resources that are being used against the state."

The interior minister reiterated that the government was attempting to clear the sit-in as part of its legal obligations after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the capital administration to evict protesters from Faizabad last Friday.

"Our administration is acting on the court's orders and we are completely supporting them," he said.

"We have made all peaceful efforts, but we are forced to act as the group has not budged. These people do not know that anti-Pakistain elements are using this to spread malice against Pakistain."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
What is the future of the Syrian Democratic Forces?
[Al Jazeera] Two Syrian groups are at odds over the sudden departure of a high-ranking Syrian commander who reportedly left for neighbouring The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
last week.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters, and the Ottoman Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA), a loose entity of opposition rebel groups, have presented different versions of the reasons behind General Talal Silo's departure.

Silo served as the SDF's spokesperson, and his parting marks the first major defection among the forces' top ranks. While the SDF refuses to acknowledge the departure as an official resignation, the FSA says his defection has been "in the works for a very long time". Silo, who belongs to the Turkmen ethnicity, previously served as a high-ranking general within the FSA when the group was first created.

"We had several options in front of us, so the best and most feasible one was for Silo to break away from the SDF towards [Turkey]," Abou al-Farouk, an FSA spokesperson and lieutenant in the north, told Al Jazeera.

The FSA aided Ottoman Turkish authorities in facilitating Silo's departure via northern Syria, from where he was ushered to Turkey, according to Abou al-Farouk.

There has been no official comment from Turkey, which perceives the SDF, led by the Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units (YPG), as a security threat for its alleged links to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) separatists inside Turkey. The PKK has waged an armed campaign since 1984 that has killed more than 40,000 people.

"In a nutshell, the SDF, who call themselves democratic, have been claiming that they are the representatives of the people - of all the minorities and races - from Arabs to Kurds to Turkmen," Abou al-Farouk said.

"So when we work on pulling out people like our brother Silo from the SDF, we would have succeeded in making them lose the diversity tactic that they promote," he added. "In this case, they used Silo's Turkmen origin to promote that they are representatives of a minority and not just Kurds."

US reverses move to close Palestinian office in DC
[Al Jazeera] The United States has backtracked on an announcement that Paleostinian offices in Washington, DC would be closed, following Paleostinian threats to sever all communication with the Americans as they work on a new Middle East peace plan.

The US order last week to close the Paleostine Liberation Organisation (PLO) office was in response to efforts by Paleostinians to indict Israeli officials at the international court, over illegal settlement expansion and violent crimes.

However,

the US State Department announced the reversal on Friday, saying the PLO office in the US capital would be allowed to operate for at least the next 90 days.

The US had "advised the PLO Office to limit its activities to those related to achieving a lasting, comprehensive peace between the Israelis and Paleostinians", State Department front man Edgar Vasquez told news hounds.

Pakistan calls in army to end anti-blasphemy protests
[Al Jazeera] The Mighty Pak Army has been called in to restore order to the capital after festivities between anti-blasphemy protesters and police left at least 174 people injured.

Thousands of riot police and paramilitary personnel on Saturday fired tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannon at the protesters in an attempt to dislodge them from a major highway into Islamabad.

The protesters, numbering as many as 2,000, stood their ground, fighting back by throwing stones and beating police with sticks and metal rods in running battles that continued throughout the day.

The protesters have been blocking the Islamabad expressway, the main road into the capital, since November 8, demanding the resignation of Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid over a perceived softening of the state's position on blasphemy.

Last week, a Pak court ordered the government to clear the sit-in protest, prompting a series of meetings between protest leaders and the government to attempt to reconcile differences.

By midday, the demonstrators appeared to have beaten back the police to roadblocks located several kilometres away from the site of the protest.

"We will remain deployed but are holding our positions for now," Khalid Khattak, Islamabad'd police chief, told Al Jazeera. "We do not want to cause further casualties [and] will adopt a new strategy soon."

At least 111 of those injured in the festivities were members of the police or other security forces, said Dr Farrukh Kamal, an official at the PIMS government hospital where most of the maimed were being treated.

Official figures on how many protesters had been nabbed
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
during the crackdown were not immediately available.

Caught in the crossfire
Liaquat Kazmi, 30, was standing outside his home near the Faizabad interchange, where the protest is centred, when he was manhandled and beaten by police as the crackdown got under way.

"I am just a regular citizen, I have no connection to the protesters or to the police," he said from his hospital bed. "Without asking any questions as to who I was, [the police] brutally beat me, and then one of them shot me at close range with a rubber bullet."

Kazmi suffered a serious wound to the chest, but doctors said he would make a full recovery.

Safoor Akram, 23, a police constable from the nearby town of Rawat, was among those tasked with being the first wave in the clearing operation against the protesters.

"We were surrounded by those maulvis [religious leaders]. First, they stole our mobiles and wallets, and then they beat us mercilessly with sticks and their fists," he told Al Jazeera.

Adios, California
[Spectator] It’s not easy watching California self-destruct. After all, my four sons are 6th generation Californians. One relative of ours journeyed here prior to the Gold Rush when the state population was just a handful of people. Family lore has it he was a gunslinger who, victorious in a gun duel, headed to California to avoid the law. He ended up ranching on what is now known as Mammoth Mountain. Other family members took part in the gold rush and one ended up discovering gold in 1895 in the Mojave Desert. My grandparents arrived in Kern County in the 1930s and worked as teachers educating the children of oil workers shortly after the discovery of oil in that region.

Proud of my heritage, I had this urge to run for the state legislature, so I did and I won. I was hoping I could do something in Sacramento to slow the decline of the Golden State. But it was not to be. I quickly discovered that the legislature was so dominated by far left ideologues, there was nothing that could be done to reverse course. My Democrat colleagues were not concerned one bit about how their policies were destroying the economic golden goose that made California so famous worldwide. Indeed, they actually believe their big government and nanny state policies have made California the model of how progressives can succeed in governing. Seriously.

The entire time I served in Sacramento, the Democrats were focused almost exclusively on legislation which either had to do with wealth redistribution or creating new “rights” for alleged victims such as illegal aliens, criminals, union members, homosexuals, transgenders and other “oppressed” groups. And it’s no different today. The reality is that the average middle class Californian hasn’t had representation in the halls of Sacramento for decades. Indeed, I predict the destruction of California will, unfortunately, be one of the great legacies of the progressive movement.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Rebels say the November 23rd attack in Frunze was just a start -- Updated

Correction: According to data supplied by rebel officials in Donetsk, the OSCE never appeared in Gladosovo.
By Chris Covert

Russian backed rebels in Lugansk said Saturday that they suspect Ukrainian forces will attempt further attacks similar to the attack on November 23rd, according to Russian language and Ukrainian news accounts.

According to the rebels' own briefing, which appeared on an official Lugansk rebel government website, they found intelligence that the Ukrainians were preparing a number of probes into rebel positions across the P66 highway, which has been an issue between the two sides since early 2015.

According to Lugansk ministry of defense spokesman Lt. Colonel Andei Marochko, Ukrainian commanders were preparing to use night and winter weather to press their attacks.

Since 2016, Ukrainian commanders have changed their tactics to finding gray zones between the two forces, occupying them, and then reinforcing them. The tactic seems at first to create a favorable tactical position, especially since rebel forces are dug in all along the line of contact, and must then either adjust to the new occupation or change their own deployment strategy.

The day before the November 23rd attack on Frunze in far northern rebel held Lugansk, Ukrainian military spokesmen announced the capture of ground in a gray zone, according to a news account which appeared in the Ukrainian Russian language news outlet, korrespondent.net.

Rebel media only days had before announced that Ukrainian forces occupied the village of Gladosovo, forcing residents by threat of arms to stay indoors. Ukrainian media said that the village of Travnevoye was taken as well. A video released on a private military channel showed very well equipped Ukrainian soldiers passing out canned goods to civilian residents. The video also indicated that both villages were without power.

Donetsk rebel media said that some residents of Gladosovo were evicted, or were forced to quarter Ukrainian soldiers. Ukrainian military media has denied the charges.

According to a separate news account in korrespondent.net, Ukrainian plans were to occupy a much larger area north of Gorlovka, but those plans were trimmed when they were revealed on social media.

In a separate news release, Lt. Col. Marochko hinted that the attacks were intended to be a diversion to keep rebel forces occupied as Ukrainian forces move into other territory. The Ukrainians would stay aware of the rebels' reaction through the use of drones and other intelligence gathering techniques.

According to Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin, writing in his Live Journal blog, one member of the attack force was a straggler who sat out the night and then was captured by rebel patrols. A video was released showing the soldier in a rebel trench receiving first aid.

The soldier so far has been identified only as Roman, a Ukrainian intelligence officer, according to rebel reports. Rozhin said he will be in the next prisoner exchange, coming up soon.

The Lugansk rebel government has released photographs showing the aftermath of the encounter, some of them grisly displays.

Much of this increased activity can be attributed to the appointment of Lt. Gen. Mykhailo Zabrodsky to command Ukrainian military forces in southeastern Ukraine.

Lt. General Zabrodsky has been a commander in the Ukrainian civil war since the very start, heading among others the Ukrainian 95th Separate Airmobile Brigade. Lt. General Zabrodsky trained at the US Army's command and staff school in Fort Leavenworth.

It is worth adding at this point that Lugansk and Donetsk military officials have been cooperating recently in sweeping areas in Lugansk and near the Donetsk border for sabotage groups that might have infiltrated into Lugansk. Donetsk has sent military units to aid former Lugansk president Igor Plotnitsky in the past.

#3  I admit I haven't been following this war very closely. But it seems they've been going at it for quite some time now without either side being able to gain any kind of advantage. Rather than continue to waste blood and treasure, isn't it about time for them to negotiate some kind of a compromise?

Neither side wants to compromise. The rebels want reunification with the Musovites and Ukraine won't accept automomy.

The basics are this: Ukraine wants to eliminate all Russian influence by banning the Russian language, as Czar Aleksandr II did the Ukrainian language in the mid-1800s.

And Ukraine has reciprocated, by banning the use of the Russian language officially earlier this year, and in films, books, etc. Two years after the coup, Russian speaking Ukrainians were told their language would eventually not be used in conducting business with the government, so the supporters of the Maidan government made good on their threat.

Russians (from Russia) have two major beefs with Ukraine, and the first is the government of Ukraine was, for all intents and purposes, imposed by coup by NATO and the US. In the Russians' view, that act alone placed NATO and the US in breach of treaties that said NATO would not try to expand, which they wound up doing anyway.

When the ABMs were talked about, Putin's military commanders said deployment of those missiles are not meant to protect Europe from Iran, but to be used as a shield against Russia in anticipation of a ground offensive against Russia.

When the government of Ukraine was deposed, Putin made a decision to protect Russian interests in Crimea, where they have a naval base and airfields they have held since the 1800s, by annexing Crimea.

Now there is some doubt as to the veracity but FSB operative Igor Girkin claimed to have been the commander for the takeover in Crimea, which for all the displays of military power, was bloodless.

Girkin also was the prime operative in fomenting the rebellion against Ukraine, starting in Slavyansk. When the new Maidan government started to use their own military power to crush the rebellion, is when, I assume, Russian military equipment, including heavy vehicles and individual soldiers -- active duty as well as veterans of previous wars (Afghanistan, Chechnya, South Ossetia, etc) -- were sent across the border to aid the rebels.

Ukrainian claim that whole Russian brigade sized formations are deployed in southeastern Ukraine, but my personal belief is that they are there to act as a fire brigade.

The rest is history.

Most of those fellas fighting at the beginning in Slavyansk now hold higher military and in political posts within Lugansk and Donetsk, so they are naturally afraid that Putin could hang them out to dry. They won't negotiate unless they get an out.

And I don't blame them.

Hope this helps.

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The US military in Afghanistan has released a new video of the ongoing air campaign against the Taliban

province, triggering a massive kaboom after bombs were dropped, apparently by B-52 bombers.

According to the US military, the enormous secondary kaboom is evidence of stockpiles of explosives the Taliban would have used against the Afghan people.

The growing Arclight airstrikes have apparently put the Taliban into a state of panic with a front man of the group claiming last week that only civilians are being killed or maimed in the ongoing campaign.

A front man for the Taliban group Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the claims of inflicting heavy losses to the Taliban fighters are false.

Ahmadi further added that only the civilians have been killed and their houses have been destroyed in the Arclight airstrikes.

The commander of the NATO

-led Resolute Support and US forces in Afghanistan General John Nicholson said Monday that the U.S. and Afghan forces conducted a series of strikes over the past 24 hours against Taliban drug labs, to target the revenue streams of the terrorists.

Gen. Nicholson further added that the combined operations struck seven Taliban drug labs and one command-and-control node in northern Helmand province.

"Specifically, in striking northern Helmand and the drug enterprises there, we’re hitting the Taliban where it hurts, which is their finances," he said.

News channels go off air, Facebook and YouTube blocked in parts of Pakistan
[DAWN] The Pakistain Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Saturday afternoon issued a notification prohibiting live coverage of the operation to end the Faizabad sit-in, following which most private news channels were taken off-air in Islamabad and other parts of the country.

The Pemra notification ordered channels to abide by Clause 8 (8) of the Electronic Media (Programmes and Advertisement) Code of Conduct 2015, to show "utmost sensitivity" and refrain from coverage of the operation.

"This channel is suspended on orders of Pemra," read a message appearing on multiple news channels.

Additionally, Facebook, YouTube, DailyMotion, Twitter and Instagram have been blocked in some parts of the country. No notice has been issued about this development.

There are reports that the federal government is mulling temporarily suspending mobile phone signals ‐ a now-common practice during security situations.

Walid Jumblatt calls for Saudi-Iranian discussions
[Al Jazeera] Top Lebanese Druze politician Walid Wally Jumblat
... Druze politician, head of the Progressive Socialist Party, who's been on every side in Leb at least four times. He'll sell you his friends for a dollar, but family comes higher because of shipping and handling...
has has called on Saudi Arabia to enter dialogue with Iran and said that the Kingdom's modernisation plans could not work while Riyadh was engaged in a war in Yemen.

Lebanon was thrust back onto the front line of a regional power tussle this month between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The two regional powers back competing factions in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, the last of which has become a central arena of the proxy battle.

"A settlement at minimum with the Islamic Republic (of Iran) gives us in Lebanon more strength and determination to cooperate to enforce the policy of disassociation," Jumblatt wrote in a post on Twitter on Saturday.

"Disassociation" is widely understood in Lebanon to mean its policy of staying out of regional conflicts, which Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has been stressing since his resignation, in reference to Hezbollah, whose regional military role is a source of deep concern in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi policy of confronting Iran more aggressively around the region has been spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also attempting to push through difficult and extensive internal reforms.

Saudi Arabia has played a role in Lebanon in the past, helping to broker the end of its civil war in 1990 and invested in the reconstruction afterwards.

But the extent of its role in the November 4 resignation announcement by Hariri has been widely debated in Lebanon and led some Lebanese to fear that Riyadh sought to destabilise their country.

Addressing Mohammed bin Salman, Jumblatt said: "The challenges are tremendous and the modernisation of the Kingdom is an Islamic and Arabic necessity, but this mission cannot be successful while the Yemen war continues."

The Druze are a minority religious sect present in Syria, Israel, the Palestinian Territories and Lebanon.

peacekeepers and a Malian soldier have been killed in two separate attacks in northern Mali, according to officials.

Friday's attacks, which also left 21 other soldiers injured, took place while troops from the UN mission in the country, known as MINUSMA, were carrying out a joint operation with Malian forces near the border with Niger.

The first attack happened early on Friday morning in Indelimane, leaving three peacekeepers from Niger and a Malian soldier dead. The second happened near Douentza and left one peacekeeper dead, UN officials said.
With regard to the Indelimane attack, Ynet adds:
The UN mission reported that at least three assailants were killed by return fire from the peacekeepers.

Following the attack, the UN said the Mali mission deployed three helicopters to evacuate the injured peacekeepers, 13 from Niger and one from Cambodia as well as the civilian. The UN mission's aircraft with medical teams also deployed from Kidal and Bamako to evacuate some of the maimed, the UN said.

France media attacker jailed for 25 years
[ARABNEWS] A French court has sentenced a man who maimed a photographer in a shooting in 2013 to 25 years behind bars, in a case that predated the string of turban attacks that has since struck the country.

Abdelhakim Dekhar, now 52, was incarcerated
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in November 2013 following a major manhunt after he broke into the headquarters of the BFMTV channel.

There, he threatened journalist Philippe Antoine with a shotgun, and said: "Next time, I won’t miss."

Three days later, still on the run, he managed to stage a shooting attack at the offices of left-wing newspaper Liberation, also in Gay Paree, that left a photographer’s assistant seriously hurt.

There was also a separate incident where shots were fired at the headquarters of the Societe Generale bank.

The court found him guilty of attempted murder of Philippe Antoine, now chief editor at BFMTV, and Cesar Sebastien, the maimed photographer’s assistant at Liberation.

Prosecutor Bernard Farret had argued that "spite" had been Dekhar’s main motive, adding that the shooter harbored "resentment against society, the state and capitalism."

Dekhar, sentenced on Friday, was considering filing an appeal, his lawyer Hugo Levy said.

Of the total, Dekhar will only be eligible for parole once he has served two thirds of his sentence.

During his trial, Dekhar repeatedly evoked political arguments, raising topics such as La Belle France’s colonization of Algeria and social problems in the French suburbs.

He had also claimed he was suicidal and "desperate" for the police to end his life.

Dekhar had been incarcerated
Please don't kill me!
in the 1990s for his role in a "Bonnie-and-Clyde" style multiple murder and left rambling letters denouncing conspiracies and media manipulation.
Monsieur Dekhar had in 1994 supplied the gun to spree killers Florence Rey and Audry Maupin, who went on to murder three police and a cabbie. He claimed he was innocent because he was acting in the orders if the Algerian secret service.
The case predated the January 2015 turban attack on the premises of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
, which left 12 people dead.

On Nov. 13 that year, button men and jacket wallahs left 130 people dead in a coordinated attack targeting several Gay Paree locations including a concert hall.

The attacks profoundly shook La Belle France, triggering a state of emergency that was lifted only this month after President Emmanuel Macron signed a controversial new anti-terror law.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Bear steals Siberian hunter’s 2 guns from his cabin
[RT] A hunter in a remote area of Siberia was left bare handed after a wild bear broke into a cabin and stole two of his guns.

The 57-year-old man decided to rest in the cabin while hunting deep in a forest in the Irkutsk region of eastern Siberia. He briefly left the cabin to fetch some fresh water and when he returned he was startled to learn that a wild bear was rooting around in his belongings.

"To avoid an encounter with the animal, the hunter scurried off into the woods where he hid for several hours," the regional Interior Ministry said in a statement, as cited by TASS.

When the hunter returned he was shocked to discover that the bear had stolen two of his guns. The man then spent several days searching the area for the weapons but they were nowhere to be found.

Police have launched an investigation into the bizarre incident and the hapless hunter is now facing a fine and may now forfeit his right to buy and use guns for one year.

This is not the first time Russian police have had to investigate a bear-related incident. In March 2017, police in the southern city of Taganrog were called into action after a man was seen walking a bear on a leash through a residential neighborhood. That bear, however, wasn’t carrying guns.

"The government will give him a $5 million lump sum and then the remainder to be paid out in instalments," a source told the Zim-bob-we Independent, whose report has since been confirmed by other media outlets. "Mugabe will also enjoy full medical cover as well as his full monthly salary. In the event of his death, his wife will be given half [his monthly salary]."

Mugabe, 93, currently receives a $150,000 annual pension, which will be partly inherited by his 52-year-old second wife Grace Mugabe, who is pejoratively known as "Gucci Grace" among some Zim-bob-weans. The two are expected to stay in the Blue Roof mansion in Harare, with the state still paying all travel, security and staff expenses for the couple.

The property of both of Mugabe’s children, and his wife’s son Russell from a previous marriage "will not be seized or in any way molested," the Guardian reports. Mugabe’s extended family owns a range of dairy farms, and has notable interests in the country’s mining industry.

"I was worried about what the changes would mean for me personally, but I am now reassured that I can live on in my country," one of Mugabe’s relatives, who did not wish to make his name public, told the publication.

(IS) Lion of Islam who was involved in the beheading in Derna of a Libyan National Army (LNA) soldier in 2015 has been captured in an LNA undercover operation in the town, it has been revealed.

Anis Bualjieh Awami, who held up the head of Abdulnabi al-Shargawi at the Ateeq Mosque on 3 June 2015, was captured last month, although the news has only just been divulged. He was seized near his home in Derna by a small unit sent in to grab him and others.

Shargawi was an LNA volunteer who was captured on 29 May 2015 and then publicly beheaded a week later at the mosque. Awami was not the actual executioner. That was said to be Abdul Rahman Mikraz, killed a few days latter in fighting between IS and the Abu Sleem Brigade, the main element in the Derna Mujahideen Shoura Council forces. Awami was one of IS guards at the execution and held up the head to be photographed.

UN humanitarian aid workers return to Yemen as Sanaa airport reopens
[ARABNEWS] Humanitarian aid workers arrived in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa on Saturday, after a nearly three-week blockade by the Saudi-led military coalition, an official at the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said.

"First plane landed in Sanaa this morning with humanitarian aid workers," WFP’s regional spokeswoman Abeer Etefa said in an email on Saturday.

Officials at Sanaa airport said two other UN flights had arrived on Saturday.

International aid groups have welcomed the decision to let humanitarian aid in, but said aid flights are not enough to avert a humanitarian crisis. About 7 million people face famine in Yemen and their survival depends on international assistance.

A front man for the Saudi-led coalition was quoted on Friday as saying that 42 permits have been issued for international aid flights to Sanaa and naval shipments to Hodeidah.

Officials at the port said on Saturday that no ships have arrived yet and they were not expecting any to dock soon.

The US-backed coalition closed air, land and sea access on November 6, in a move it said was to stop the flow of arms to the Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, from Iran.

Muslim World League chief on mission to wipe out extremist ideology
[ARABNEWS] Dr. Mohammed al-Issa, head of the Moslem World League (MWL), told Rooters during a European tour that his organization will no longer sit by and let Islam be taken hostage by myrmidons.

The push for a more moderate Islam underscores Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s efforts to modernize the Kingdom.

"We must wipe out... myrmidon thinking through the work we do," al-Issa said. "We need to annihilate religious severity and extremism which is the entry point to terrorism. That is the mission of the Moslem World League."

He said the MWL will be much more hands-on now, and aims to tackle any sign of extremism wherever it is found, including schools, centers and mosques.

He added that part of his work is to address the difficulties Moslems may have in adapting their religion to non-Moslem nations.

"We want to offer the real interpretation of the sacred texts that have been taken hostage and interpreted in a wrong way," al-Issa said.

"We have a common objective to end hatred. The Moslem World League really believes that we can accomplish that, and religions are very influential in doing that."

With Sisi, Salman, and the majority of Sunni banding together and showing action in this front.

From the Princes detained at the Ritz to the pressure on Qatar and the increased activity with Israel and Lebanon.

#10  With the rise of fracking,

Supporting jihad mercenaries isn’t cheap, though it must be less expensive than a proper army. But in a time of tightening belts, it’s an unnecessary luxury. They’re making a virtue of necessity.

#11  The geo-strategic insanity of the Salafi and Shia Jihads has become apparent to some big turbans. Economics and military both factors in this "awakening" at least by some on the Salafi side (e.g., some Sauds).

(Paks, obviously, have not gotten the message, so they will have to switch their funding from Saud to Xi.)

Also, Donald Trump. Never forget the omni-directional impact for novelty and good a moral man who loves freedom and his country has when in position of responsibility for affairs. Last time I remember such a condition was that around GOA MacArthur.

Al-Sisi said it well, something along the lines of, "We trust this man and know he can get these things done that need doing [taking down the Jihads], opening MENA to modernization."

Domestically, we see "conservative" Never-Trumpers, some at least, realizing opportunities glimmering around this moral man, opportunities to accomplish law-abiding and government simplifications they have long wanted but, hobbled by their own moral cowardice, feared impossible.

Good men remove fear. And without the drag of fear, history becomes good people's open field running, gradually, but picking up speed. The sense of grandeur returns and with it cheer and invention.

#12  So blame the social change on Trump pressure or the ruling dynasty shift or fracking and falling oil prices or forecast of failing reserves. We will see multigenerational change in our lifetimes.

More on the Ukrainian occupation of Gladosovo -- Correction

Correction: According to data supplied by rebel officials in Donetsk, the OSCE never appeared in Gladosovo.

By Chris Covert

Russian backed rebel forces claimed that the video released purporting to show Ukrainian soldiers passing out canned good to residents of Gladosovo was staged, according to Russian language new accounts.

Two days ago, on the night of November 22nd to November 23rd, elements of the Ukrainian 58th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade occupied the villages of Gladosovo and Travnevoye, both of which are close to the line of contact north of rebel held Gorlovka/Zaitsevo.

Both villages were considered to be in a gray zone, which neither side occupies. But due to a change in Ukrainian basic tactics since the spring of 2016, Ukrainian forces have been moving forces into those zones, actions which have shown to be so far, relatively cost free to the Ukrainians.

Ukrainian military media claimed that their forces north of Gorlovka/Zaitsevo took over several kilometers.

However, the latest rebel reports show that the Ukrainian hold on the newly acquired territory is tenuous at best.

According to a new article which appeared in Russian sponsored Russkaya Vesna new website, a Donetsk military film crew, covered by Donetsk special forces, managed to get within a kilometer of Gladosovo in daylight, and, from an uncovered height, took video footage purportedly showing Ukrainian forces digging in to the villages.

Rebel media claimed to have reports that the canned food filmed being passed out to residents in Gladosovo, were actually requisitioned from a local market, by elements of the 24th Aidar Battalion, part of the initial force entering Gladosovo.

According to a news account which appeared in lb.ua, the communications staff asked that volunteers refrain from commenting on social media data on Ukrainian troop deployments and activities. It has been said in rebel media in the last two days that rebel forces were able to quickly assemble backing forces for immediate deployment to the line of contact.

So far, not in any media has there been an indication that the newly redeployed rebel forces have had any involvement in the attack on Frunze in Lugansk and in the former gray areas north of Gorlovka. It is entirely possible that the newly activated rebel forces had shown to Ukraine military that subsequent plans, which rebel media claimed were in the works, would have to be scrapped.

Ukrainian media claim that Gladosovo and other locales had been denied access to food, gas and power had not been addressed by rebel media.

A recent news announcement from Donetsk Lt. Colonel Eduard Basurin, said that only one dirt road goes in to Gladosovo, and it is being constantly washed out by the weather.
