China-Japan-Koreas
Another NORK Boat in Distress Found in Japanese Waters
Hat tip: gCaptain
Japan’s coast guard on Thursday boarded a North Korean fishing boat near a Japanese island where the crew said they had taken shelter from rough seas, the latest in a series of North Korean vessels in distress drifting into Japanese waters.

The wooden boat was towed nearer the northern island of Hokkaido for inspection, a coast guard spokesman said. Authorities had yet to decide what to do with the vessel and the ten fishermen on board.

"At this point, it is still too early to say what we will do," he said.

Experts say food shortages may be driving fishermen to risk taking their small boats to more dangerous waters closer to Japan. The encounters have attracted greater attention amid tension in the region over North Korea’s weapons programs and its latest missile test on Wednesday.

There has been no suggestion that the fishermen may be defectors from the impoverished, tightly controlled country which has fired two missiles over Japan in recent tests and regularly threatens to destroy the United States.

On Monday, eight bodies believed to be of North Koreans, which had been partly reduced to skeletons, were found in a small wooden ship washed up on a beach on Japan’s northwest coast. Two other bodies were found at the weekend on the western shore of the Sea of Japan island of Sado, with life jackets displaying Korean lettering.

Last week, police in northern Japan found eight North Korean men who said they landed after claiming their vessel had lost power and run into trouble.

On Thursday, the coast guard issued an advisory to shipping about a half-sunken wooden boat floating in waters close to Sado.

Former Trump adviser Flynn to plead guilty to lying to FBI
Former US national security adviser Michael Flynn is to plead guilty Friday to making false statements to the FBI, the first plea by any of the four former Trump advisers charged so far in a wide-ranging investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Court documents show Flynn, an early and vocal supporter on the campaign trail of President Donald Trump whose business dealings and foreign interactions made him a central focus of Mueller’s investigation, will admit to lying about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the United States during the transition period before Trump’s inauguration.

The expected guilty plea makes the retired Army lieutenant general the first person to have actually worked in the Trump White House to face formal charges in the investigation, which is examining possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.
Threaten a man's son and he'll say whatever you want.

#3  What the Flynn Plea Means
...
"Understand: If Flynn’s conversations with the Russian ambassador had evinced the existence of a quid pro quo collusion arrangement — that the Trump administration would ease or eliminate sanctions on Russia as a payback for Russia’s cyber-espionage against the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic party — it would have been completely appropriate, even urgently necessary, for the Obama Justice Department to investigate Flynn. But if that had happened, Mueller would not be permitting Flynn to settle the case with a single count of lying to FBI agents. Instead, we would be looking at a major conspiracy indictment, and Flynn would be made to plead to far more serious offenses if he wanted a deal — cooperation in exchange for sentencing leniency. To the contrary, for all the furor, we have a small-potatoes plea in Flynn’s case — just as we did in Papadopoulos’s case, despite extensive “collusion” evidence. Meanwhile, the only major case Mueller has brought, against former Trump-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and an associate, has nothing to do with the 2016 election. It is becoming increasingly palpable that, whatever “collusion” means, there was no actionable, conspiratorial complicity by the Trump campaign in the Kremlin’s machinations."

Honolulu Police Dept. to Pot Smokers: ‘You Have 30 Days to Turn over Your Guns'
[GunAmerica] The Honolulu Police Department is demanding that medical marijuana users turn over their firearms.

In a letter dated Nov. 13, Police Chief Susan Ballard drew a line in the sand. It’s either your weed or your guns.

"Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition," the letter reads.

"If you currently own or have any firearms," it continues, "you have 30 days upon receipt of this letter to voluntary surrender your firearms, permit, and ammunition to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) or otherwise transfer ownership."

Special Warfare Center and School probes criticism of Green Beret training
[Fayetteville Observer] WASHINGTON ‐ The Army’s Special Warfare Center and School has launched an investigation into an anonymous email that accused its leaders of "moral cowardice" for ditching training standards and allowing undeserving soldiers to become members of elite Green Beret teams.

The sharply critical message was sent earlier this week to a wide swath of the Army’s Special Forces community. The nearly 6,300-word message declared that the school’s senior officers and enlisted leaders are primarily interested in advancing their careers by meeting demands for greater numbers of Green Berets and enforcing "political agendas."

Maj. Gen. Kurt Sonntag, commanding general of the school located at Fort Bragg, on Thursday defended the process for selecting Green Berets and rejected a number of the claims in the email. He said he stands firmly behind the "quality of every soldier we are sending to the operational force," in a statement delivered to "men and women" of the Special Warfare Center and School.

Sonntag also said comments in the email "warrant further evaluation" and that is being done through "formal inquiries and a number of existing institutional forums." He wasn’t more specific, however.

The anonymous email said the push to hit unrealistic quotas has led to a "dangerously less capable" force as dozens of flawed Green Beret candidates are nonetheless graduated. The message said instructors who’ve sought to hold students accountable for their academic, physical and character performance have been instead muzzled or punished.

Newsweek morons accuses Ivanka Trump of plagiarizing her own speech
[Examiner] Newsweek magazine accused President Trump's daughter Ivanka of plagiarism. But rather than claiming that she ripped someone else's work off, the magazine said she was guilty of making a speech more than once.

"Ivanka Trump plagiarizes one of her own speeches in India," blared the headline from Wednesday.

The story covered Trump's appearance at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad, India, this week and said attendees may have expected "a robust keynote address" but instead, "the breadth of her talking points were recycled from a previous speech she gave during a foreign trip earlier this month.

Some on social media criticized the magazine for characterizing the speech as though Trump had done something afoul.

"That ... isn’t what plagiarism is," remarked New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman on Twitter.

Another Twitter user said, "You can't plagiarize your own speech, you morons."

"Um yeah it’s ok to do that," said a third. "I plagiarize myself all the time, claim my own words as my own."

After drawing scrutiny, Newsweek changed its headline to say that Trump "recycles" the speech, instead of "plagiarizes."

Army veteran discovers she was groped by Franken during USO tour 14 years ago
[CNN] An Army veteran says Sen. Al Franken groped her in December 2003, telling CNN that while she was deployed in Kuwait, the Minnesota Democrat cupped her breast during a photo op.

Stephanie Kemplin, 41, of Maineville, Ohio, is the fifth woman in two weeks to accuse Franken of inappropriate touching, and the second person to allege that such behavior took place while Franken was on a USO tour. Three of the five women have been identified by name.

Kemplin said while she was stationed in the Middle East during the Iraq War, she met Franken -- at the time, a comedian and writer -- as he was visiting American troops with the USO. A longtime fan of "Saturday Night Live," Kemplin got in line to take a photo with Franken.

"When he put his arm around me, he groped my right breast. He kept his hand all the way over on my breast," Kemplin said in an interview. "I've never had a man put their arm around me and then cup my breast. So he was holding my breast on the side."

Kemplin repeatedly used the word "embarrassed" to describe her immediate reaction at the time.

#3  On July 1, 2015, 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle died in a hospital two hours after being shot in the back by a bullet which had ricocheted off the concrete deck of Pier 14. The bullet had come from a .40-caliber handgun, one of three shots fired by Jose Inez Garcia Zarate, a Mexican national unlawfully residing in the United States. He was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter, but convicted of illegal possession of a firearm.

It is a travesty. He was here illegally, had been deported multiple times, used drugs, second-grade education. Probably broke into an agent's car and stole a firearm. He fired 3 shots, one ricocheted and killed Kate. I'm surprised he wasn't pawned off in court as a poor DACA kid. Anyone else would have been in the slammer pronto. Rep. John Conyers hospitalized due to stress from media
[Breitbart] Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) has been hospitalized in Detroit and a consultant who works with the lawmaker said it is because of stress caused by alleged "media assault" following multiple women saying that he sexually harassed them.

ClickOnDetroit reported that Conyers’ office confirmed the hospitalization but did not give the name of the hospital or the reason he was admitted.

But a consultant for Conyers told reporters it is related to the sex scandal.

"I just spoke with Monica Conyers on the phone and we want you to know that the congressman is resting comfortably in an area hospital. He’s doing OK, as well as he can be expected for a gentleman that’s approaching 90 years of age," Sam Riddle said in the ClickOnDetroit article.

"The congressman’s health is not what it should be and a lot of that is directly attributable to this media assault," Riddle said.

Despite the charges by multiple women ‐ which Conyers denies ‐ an attorney for the 88-year-old lawmaker said he does not plan to resign his seat.

IDF soldier stabbed to death in Arad in suspected terror attack
[Ynet] Soldier found outside mall in the northern city of Arad with stab wounds; paramedics declare him dead on scene; police says murder was likely nationalistically-motivated; search ongoing for suspects.

A soldier who was waiting for the bus was stabbed to death outside the mall in Arad on Thursday night in what police said was likely a nationalistically-motivated murder.

The soldier, in his 20s, tried to call for help after having been fatally stabbed, collapsing on top of a car.

"I was driving and all of a sudden a soldier ran to me, blocking my car in the middle of a traffic circle," the driver said. "I didn't understand what was happening. I noticed he started throwing up. I was sure he was drunk. I stopped, and all of a sudden I saw he was throwing up blood on my car. I stopped and called for help."

"He was conscious and tried to say something but couldn't," the driver continued. "We tried to help him, he fell to the ground. We called Magen David Adom and put a towel on him."

Paramedics who arrived on the scene found the soldier unconscious and without a pulse. After resuscitation attempts failed, he was declared dead.

Police were searching the area for suspects, setting up roadblocks on route 31 and in the entrance to the city. A helicopter was also scrambled to help search. Shin Bet and IDF forces were also deployed to help police in search for the perpetrators.

Among other things, security forces are trying to ascertain whether the soldier's weapon was stolen.

An eye witness recounted the incident, saying "Someone came up to the soldier from behind and stabbed him. I saw him lying down (on the ground). My friend called me over when it happened, he tried to stop the bleeding with a towel."
The Times of Israel reports two assailants are being hunted for this terror attack.

Rex Tillerson expected to step down in January, plans discussed for Pompeo to take place
One has to wonder whether the expectation is true, or merely deep state rumour mongering in the hope of forcing reality to conform to their desire.
[FoxNews] Another potential shakeup in the Trump administration; chief White House correspondent John Roberts reports.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is expected to leave the Trump administration in January, sources tell Fox News, amid discussion of potentially tapping CIA Director Mike Pompeo as a replacement.

The discussions come amid reports of growing tension between President Trump and the nation’s top diplomat.

However, the Trump administration publicly pushed back Thursday when asked about a possible Tillerson exit.

“As we’ve said many times before, as many of you love to write these types of stories, when the president loses confidence in someone, they will not serve in the capacity that they’re in,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said at the press briefing Thursday. “When the president loses confidence in somebody, they will no longer be here.”

Sanders pointed to the president’s on-the-record comments in the Oval Office Thursday during his meeting with Crown Prince of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa. Trump was asked by reporters whether Tillerson would leave his post.

“He’s here,” Trump said. “Rex is here.”

SC overturns life sentences of three convicts in Musharraf attack case
[DAWN] A three-judge Supreme Court (SC) bench on Thursday overturned the life imprisonment sentence of three men suspected of planning an attack on former president Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
The three accused ‐ Intakhab Abbasi, Zafar Ali and Muhammad Kabeer ‐ had been convicted of planning to attack the Army House in a bid to target retired General Pervez Musharraf.

They had initially been sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court but later the Lahore High Court turned their sentences into life imprisonment.

The men, who have now been set free, were also accused of having links with the Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain.

According to the judges, the verdict was overturned due to lack of evidence. "The prosecution's neglect led to the fish escaping the net," Justice Dost Muhammad remarked during the hearing.

"The prosecution failed to prove its case," Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked.

In a separate case, the SC overturned a death sentence handed to a man convicted of multiple murders in a 10-year-old case citing a "lack of evidence".

The suspect, Saeed Akhtar, was sentenced to death by a trial court some 10 years ago for the murder of five people. The Lahore High Court upheld the trial court's verdict in the case at the time.

A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, decided today to overturn the verdict citing a lack of evidence.

The court, as it overturned the death sentence, said that the prosecution had failed to prove the case and that there were no eyewitnesses to prove the legitimacy of the prosecution's claim.

but had no outside help in planning the violence, the FBI said on Wednesday.

Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 20, on Nov. 28, 2016, plowed into pedestrians with a car and then exited the vehicle to stab other victims, before a police officer at the campus shot him.

Artan, who was born in Somalia and became a lawful permanent U.S. resident, was pronounced dead at the scene in Columbus, the state capital.

Islamic State a day later grabbed credit for Artan’s actions. The Federal Bureau of Investigation initially said Artan appeared to have been inspired by the group, but the agency at the time said it had found no evidence others were involved in planning the attack.

After a year-long investigation, the FBI said on Wednesday it had confirmed its initial assessment.

"The evidence from the extensive investigation indicates the perpetrator acted alone and was not directed by a terrorist organization," the FBI statement said, adding that the agency’s investigation was complete.

More than 400 US troops leaving Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More than 400 US Marines and their artillery are leaving Syria after helping to capture the city of Raqqa from ISIS, the US-led coalition fighting the bully boy group said on Thursday.

Last month, US-backed militias declared victory in Raqqa, ISIS’s former headquarters in Syria, after months of fighting with the help of the US-led coalition.

"With the city liberated and ISIS on the run, the unit has been ordered home. Its replacements have been called off," the coalition said in a statement, using an acronym for ISIS.

"We're drawing down combat forces where it makes sense, but still continuing our efforts to help Syrian and Iraqi partners maintain security," Brigadier General Jonathan Braga, the director of operations for the coalition, said in the statement.

"Our remaining forces will continue to work by, with, and through partner forces to defeat remaining ISIS, prevent a re-emergence of ISIS, and set conditions for international governments and NGOs to help local citizens recover from the horrors of ISIS' short-lived rule," he said.

Officially, the Pentagon says there are 503 troops in Syria. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
as of last week, US officials said there were closer to 2,000 US troops in the country. The latest announcement would reduce that number.

As that campaign against ISIS winds down, it is unclear how many, if any, US troops will remain in Syria.

Most of them are special operations forces, working to train and advise local partner forces, including providing artillery support against ISIS bully boys.

Kerry: Israel, Egypt, Saudis pushed US to bomb Iran before nuke deal
So it wasn’t just Israel? Odd that he and his boss didn’t openly snub the other parties involved...
[IsraelTimes] Former Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
said both Israel and Egypt pushed the United States to "bomb Iran" before the 2015 nuclear deal was struck.

Kerry defended the deal during remarks Tuesday at the Ignatius Forum in Washington, saying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "genuinely agitating towards action," before he struck the accord with Tehran.

Kerry said when he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he met with Late King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands Abdullah
... Now a dead guy...
, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
and Netanyahu, who all lobbied for military action.

"Each of them said to me, you have to bomb Iran, it’s the only thing they are going to understand," he said.

But Kerry said that was "a trap" since the Arab countries would have publicly criticized the US if it bombed Iran.

It was not clear when the conversations took place. Kerry chaired the Senate panel from 2009 to early 2013. Mubarak was deposed in February 2011.

Venezuela arrests two former oil bosses on sabotage charges
[ALMASDARNEWS] Two former bosses of the Venezuelan petroleum industry have been tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
by security forces on Thursday, according to official sources.

The two detainees are Nelson Martinez, ex-chief of state oil company PDVSA, and former Minister for Oil Eulogio del Pino. According to Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab, the two high-ranking officials were arrested as part of a security operation in order to "to dismantle the cartel that has been hitting the oil industry."

The attorney further stated that the operation is being carried out by the Military Counterintelligence Unit, and that in total 14 people are being investigated, some of whom are not living in the country at the moment.

"We hope they will be delivered to Venezuelan justice," Saab said.

The arrests come a week after similar sanctions were taken against six executives of Citgo Petroleum Corp, the US-based subsidiary of PDVSA, who were arrested on suspicion of having accepted bribes of over $50 million.

The functions of both Martinez and del Pino are taken over by Manuel Quevedo, a staunch supporter of Maduro. Quevedo has defended the purge of the two former oil bosses, accusing them of planning an economical sabotage of the nation.

"This sabotage plan is aimed at achieving a repeat of 2002-03 when there was an attempted coup against Chavez," Quevedo stated during an OPEC meeting in Vienna.

Three Wounded In A Fresh Airstrike On Al Shabaab Camp
[RADIOSHABELLE] At least three people were reported to have been maimed in a fresh Arclight airstrike on Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
-held town in Southern Somalia on Wednesday night, residents said.

The airstrike which is believed to have been carried out an unmanned U.S. aircraft took place in Toratorow district in Lower Shabelle region, just about 90Km west of Mogadishu.

Those maimed in the attack were civilians, according to the sources. Neither Al-Shabaab nor U.S. military commented on the assault.

This was the latest in series of airstrikes by U.S. military against Al-Shabaab since President Trump gave AFRICOM broader authorization to step up air raids in Somalia in March of this year.

Roadside bomb kills 5 pro-govt fighters in South Waziristan
[DAWN] A roadside kaboom killed five pro-government fighters and maimed two others in South Wazoo on Thursday evening, hours after a suspected United States drone struck a bad boy compound near Pak-Afghan border area, killing three suspected bad boys, officials said.

The evening incident took place in South Waziristan's Spinkai area near the Afghan border when a group of pro-government fighters was returning from a function.

Their vehicle was attacked using a remotely detonated bomb, said intelligence officials. The officials said the group was part of a volunteers' militia helping the military in operations against terrorists. The intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.

They said the group's leader, Wali Jan, had earlier survived a suicide kaboom but continued to play a role in fighting Talibs.

The two maimed men were moved to a military hospital, they said.

Umar Arshad, an assistant administrator in South Waziristan, confirmed the intelligence officials' account.

Swede convicted of 'online' rape, handed 10-year sentence
[DAWN] A court in Sweden on Thursday sentenced a Swedish man to 10 years in prison for coercing teenagers in Canada, Britannia and the United States to perform sexual acts in front of webcams by threatening them or their families.

The Uppsala City Court said that Bjorn Samstrom was guilty of online sexual offences against 27 children between 2015 and early 2017.

The 41-year-old had threatened to post photos of his victims on porn sites or kill their relatives unless they performed sexual acts as he watched in Sweden.

It was the first time in Sweden that a person had been convicted of rape when the sexual assaults took place over the internet.

Under Swedish law rape doesn't have to involve intercourse. It can be another act that's considered equally violating.

Turkish Army deploys 180 soldiers to Al-Bab in east Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish Army recently deployed 180 commandos to the Aleppo Governorate city of al-Bab, the Hurriyet Daily reported today

"Troops from the Ottoman Turkish Gendarmerie’s ’Wolves’ battalion, based in the Black Sea province of Tokat, conducted a leaving ceremony before heading to Syria," the Daily added.

Al-Bab is currently under the control of the Ottoman Turkish-backed Euphrates Shield forces; it is strategically located in the eastern countryside of Aleppo.

While the Ottoman Turkish Army already has a large presence in western Aleppo (Darat Izza), the eastern countryside is mostly controlled by their proxies, as their is a small presence of Kurdish-led fighters in this area.

India should pursue case against Hafiz Saeed internationally if it has proof: PM Abbasi
[DAWN] Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that if India thinks there is substance to its allegations against Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
(JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
it should pursue charges against him on an international forum.

PM Abbasi, in an interview with Bloomsburg News, said that the Lahore High Court had decided to release the JuD leader as there were no charges against Saeed, and that the decision to free him was within the bounds of the law.

"The court, a three-judge bench, has released him saying there are no charges against him, the country has a law you know," Abbasi told Bloomberg. "Prosecute him internationally if there is substance to these charges ─ these are accusations only. No evidence has been provided by India."

According to Bloomberg, India claimed it has provided evidence to Pakistain. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Raveesh Kumar did not respond to requests for comments, the report said.

The prime minister also brushed aside United States (US) accusations that Pakistain provides sanctuary to myrmidon groups, saying that attacks in the region are originating from Afghanistan.

Apex court calls out media, ISI over their 'questionable role' in the Faizabad sit-in
[DAWN] A two-member Supreme Court bench on Thursday castigated government officials, intelligence agencies as well as the media for their 'questionable role' in the sit-in at Faizabad, which had disrupted life in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for 20 days.

"How did the protesters get teargas shells and sticks?" Justice Mushir Alam asked the advocate general of the Islamabad jurisdiction.

"If you cannot secure the federal capital, how will you secure the country?" he asked, addressing the government.

The bench, which is hearing a petition on the disturbance caused to public life due to the sit-in, made the remarks while reviewing a nine-page report submitted to the apex court on Wednesday on behalf of Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Khalid Khattak.

At the outset of the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood requested the court to adjourn the matter until Tuesday as the attorney general is out of the country.

"Why should we adjourn if you are going to be present?" Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked in response.

Continuing with the hearing, the judge asked why the country's agencies do not come forward. "Why is the Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) representative not here?" he asked, inquiring as to why the intelligence agency was "silent".

He added that it was the ISI's responsibility to protect the state. "The poor of this country provide the funds for ISI," he said.

Justice Isa also took note of the fact that the protests are not completely over and that a sit-in is still ongoing.

[ALMASDARNEWS] On Thursday, gunnies loyal to the Islamic State

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
reportedly launched an assault against government forces in a sparsely populated area west of Sheikh Zuweid, a predominately Bedouin town near the Gazoo Strip.

As ISIS gunnies attempted to infiltrate a military checkpoint on the perimeter of Qabr Omair village, the Egyptian Army rushed reinforcements to the area and managed to hold its ground before driving the jihadist gunnies back into the vast desert of Sinai Province.

Although heavy festivities were reported to have taken place by local sources, the exact corpse count on either side remains unbeknownst to al-Masdar News.

On Saturday, Egypt was struck by one of its worst terror attacks in years after ISIS gunnies detonated a massive bomb inside the Rawdah mosque and opened fire upon civilians in the town of Bir al-Abed, also located in northern Sinai.

According to officials, 305 Egyptian people were killed and a further 128 civilians maimed during the attack. Sadly, 27 children were among the dead.

Drone strike kills at least 3 militants near Pak-Afghan border

"You are describing me as a liberal [...] Yes, I am. These are my thoughts," the former president said. "That does not mean I am against all religious parties."

"I am the greatest supporter of LeT and I know they [LeT and JuD] are fond of me," he said.

When asked if he "liked" JuD chief Hafiz Seed, the former president said that he does and that he has met with him.

"Because I have always been in favour of action in Kashmire and I have always been in favour of pressuring the Indian army in Kashmire. This is the biggest force and they have been declared gunnies by India and the US jointly," Musharraf said, explaining his stance.

The former president went on to deny that LeT was involved in the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai ─ an allegation leveled by India and supported by Washington.

US threatens to 'utterly destroy' North Korean regime
[DAWN] The United States (US) warned North Korea's leadership will be "utterly destroyed" if war breaks out but its call for nations to cut ties with Pyongyang was rejected by Moscow while Beijing sidestepped talk of an oil embargo.

Washington urged tough action at an emergency meeting of the Security Council held Wednesday to respond to North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

"The dictator of North Korea made a choice yesterday that brings the world closer to war, not farther from it," US Ambassador Nikki Haley

told the council. "If war comes, make no mistake: The North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed."

But her call for nations to "cut off all ties with North Korea" was rejected by Moscow, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying Russia saw the proposal "negatively".

"We have repeatedly stated that the pressure of sanctions has been exhausted," Lavrov told news hounds in Minsk on Thursday.

US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
derided Kim Jong-Un as a "sick puppy" and threatened "major" new sanctions after Pyongyang tested its third ICBM ─ which it claimed was capable of striking anywhere in the US.

Dogs really ARE smarter than cats: Canines have more than twice as many brain cells linked to intelligence
[DailyMail] The researchers, from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, say the number of neurons in an animal's cerebral cortex is a hallmark of intelligence.

The cortex is the largest layer of the brain and is associated with a range of complex behavioural characteristics.
Researchers found that dogs possess around 530 million cortical neurons, while cats only have around 250 million.
By comparison, a human brain houses around 16 billion cortical neurons.

'I believe the absolute number of neurons an animal has, especially in the cerebral cortex, determines the richness of their internal mental state and their ability to predict what is about to happen in their environment based on past experience,' study lead author Dr Herculano-Houzel told Vanderbilt University's news site.

The researchers applied their intelligence theory to several carnivorous species, and found that bigger brains do not necessarily mean more cortical neurons.

Does the NRA have a conscience?
[Citizen-Times] Devin Patrick Kelley, a 26-year-old Texan, killed 26 people before apparently taking his own earlier this month during church services at Sutherland Springs Baptist Church in Texas. News reports indicate the slaughter was the result of a heated “domestic situation.”

All indications are that upon his bad conduct discharge from the U.S. Air Force he should have been identified as an individual who could not buy or possess weapons legally. That crucial information was never relayed to civilian authorities. Thus, Kelley obtained and used a Ruger rapid-fire assault rifle as he carried out his atrocious mass murder.
Correction: He could not participate in the federal firearms transfer system. He had every right to buy a firearm outside of the federal system and to possess a firearm.
With perhaps some oversimplification, here is an attempt to shed light on how and why this tragedy took place.
Read my attempt: He was a liberal murdering bastard. End of explanation.
There are two “doors” that regulate human behavior. One is the conscience. The New World Dictionary defines the conscience as: “a knowledge or sense of right and wrong, with a compulsion to do right”. The second door is consequences-natural physical consequences along with man-made laws and consequences. The conscience has the potential to require the individual to do what he/she thinks is right. It can also require the individual to not do what he/she thinks is wrong. A major trouble with the conscience is that it must be obeyed voluntarily. Humans have the choice to obey or violate their consciences on a daily basis. In regard to consequences they are seldom totally predictable in nature. Also, consequences set up by man-made laws are very difficult to enforce consistently.
So far, so good.
In the classic serial killer novel made into the movie “the Silence of the Lambs” this duality of conscience and consequences is very well portrayed by Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. Hannibal has no conscience to prevent him from killing people who get in his way. He kills them and eats chosen “delicious” body parts. Hannibal displays little fear of being caught in his criminal/anti-social behavior. He has proven himself very capable of avoiding capture and confinement.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) along with thousands of its members insist that the Second Amendment to our Constitution guarantees the right of Americans to own firearms. Their mantra is that “Guns don’t kill - people kill.” To many it appears the NRA is willing to ignore the harsh reality that too many people have been killed by people wielding assault rifles.
Not an assault rifle. Assault rifles are capable of firing automatic fire. The firearm Kelly used was a semiautomatic, in this article deliberately misrepresented as an assault rifle.
These are automatic rifles that fire dozens of rounds before requiring reloading. How long will the NRA shirk its responsibility to support legislation that sets reasonable limits on (A) who can legally own firearms and (B) which firearms pose too great a risk of harming or killing Americans and, therefore, must be controlled or banned for the safety of all? What could possibly motivate that influential organization to continue with its present philosophy and lobbying to Congress? Surely people don’t have to be told the answer to that question! It is money.
The notion of "legally own" is such a sad thing, built up by the press and government over the span of two generations, almost as an article of faith. Most people, I would guess about 90 percent, think that because they have not run afoul of the law, they have the right to own a firearm. They ignore the reading of the 2nd Amendment. Their rights, despite the notion of "legally own" are granted by God, not by government. The 2nd Amendment serves as a admonition to government not to infringe on that right.
I have personally chosen not to join the NRA because of their rigid stance that perpetuates this needless killing. I will continue, like many of my friends, neighbors and relatives to own simple non-assault firearms for personal safety.
Good for you! Just what your shooting sports friends need. A Kommie scold. You're worse than a vegan who insists everyone be aware he is vegan.
There was a time when peoples’ consciences told them not kill people with their firearms. There was a time when assault rifles were not readily available. There was a time when people did not play video games that resulted in people dying before their eyes. For some who have never witnessed a killing this surely must diminish the value of human life.
The good old days, eh?
In those days children played Cowboys & Indians, pretending to kill each other all over the neighbourhood, smallish boys got BB guns as a matter of course, and everyone carried pocket knives to cut things that needed to be cut. The ones girls got were prettier.
If we could re-tool the “American conscience” perhaps we could reduce killing to zero per year. But, since we can’t control consciences, what can we control? We can, if we choose to do so, regulate and control rapid-fire assault rifles.
Personally, I think being a bitchy scold is your best idea. See your shooting sports line up to spend evenings in a diner, sipping coffee, telling them about how you'd like them to be disarmed. It is your best destiny. And you're too late on the assault rifles. They are heavily regulated by virtue of federal gun laws, starting in 1933 et seq.
There is a prevent-minimize-control continuum that is considered in regard to disasters and tragedies. Prevention is generally the least expensive choice. Minimization is more expensive. Correction is usually much more expensive than either of those two. The huge trouble with the correction phase is that human life cannot be restored once taken. That is a somber reality that NRA officials and many members need to ponder on. Are they so intent on the right to possess any firearm that they can convince themselves they have no part in the prevention of killing innocent people? There is at least a thin line here between what our military personnel should have and what civilians should or should not be allowed to own. Most of my neighbors say they see no need for any hunter or gun enthusiast to own assault rifles.
But in government, when you pass laws chock full of involuntary measures to prevent some ill, invariably individual rights are violated, sometime grossly by those laws. You were doing so well straight up lying about firearms, then you go and commit a false logic: "all my friends say" and so on.
In her great song “Superman” Donna Fargo sings, “Now, let’s go through this one more time. You do your thing and I’ll do mine. But, honey baby, we got to draw the line when your hang-up starts messin’ with mine”. It is becoming quite clear that the NRA’s hang-up is messing with precious human lives. Bob Dylan asked,”How many deaths will it take ‘til we know that too many people have died?” When will their collective consciences kick in and tell them that profit should never trump human life?
Donna Fargo, that Constitutional philosopher. And don't get me started on Bob Dylan's masterful multi volume work on Constitutional rights.
Should we beg NRA members to discontinue their membership in an attempt to persuade that powerful organization to support legislation banning assault rifles?

#1  If only we could pass just the right laws, create the perfect rule set, we could finally achieve a Perfect Society and end hate, violence and murder. (Wait, don't we already have laws against killing people? Shut up, he explained)

The fallacy underlying banning guns is the idea that if we remove the tool, we stop the impulse. But murder is more about intent than implements. In Britain, they got rid of guns and suddenly found themselves in an epidemic of knife crimes. Murder is fungible, if you will. People with intent will find a way.

Personal nuclear bunkers go on sale in South Korea
[Mail] North Korea's latest missile test may have put most of the world on edge - but South Koreans are now being offered peace of mind with these fallout shelters.

Firm Chumdan Bunker System has just opened a showroom in Seoul in order to sell the £20,000 containers which promise to keep people safe if a nuke falls.

Each bunker comes equipped with four beds - though can be modified up to eight - its own air filtration system and solar panels for power.

Airstrike target Haqqani network compound in Kurram Agency of Pakistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An Arclight airstrike has been carried out on the compound of a commander of the notorious Haqqani terrorist network in the tribal regions of Pakistain, it has been reported.

According to the local media reports in Pakistain, the airstrike was carried out earlier today in the vicinity of Kurram Agency
...home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism, where the laws of cause and effect are assumed to be suspended, conveniently located adjacent to Tora Bora...
in Federally Administered Tribal Region of Pakistain.

The reports further add that three people were killed in the attack on commander Rashid’s compound which is located in Ghauz Garhi area.

The Pak government officials have not formally commented regarding the airstrike so far.

The latest airstrike targeting the compound of Haqqani network commander takes place amid growing pressures on Pakistain regarding the terror safe havens, particularly the Haqqani network sanctuaries, which the officials are saying have remained intact despite the major operations launched by the military of the country.

group in Iraq and Syria, according to a Pentagon report released Thursday.

Five more strikes, all in Syria, were investigated over the past month and found to have resulted in 15 civilian additional civilian deaths, the report stated.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
monitoring groups say the number of civilian casualties from coalition airstrikes in the fight against IS group is far higher than the Pentagon acknowledges.

Since August 2014, more than 5,000 civilians have been killed as a result of coalition airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, according to the London-based Airwars organization that tracks civilian deaths in the anti-IS group operation.

The majority of civilian casualty allegations are currently from coalition airstrikes in Syria. The Pentagon says they are still assessing 695 reports of civilian casualties, more than 400 of which are from strikes carried out in Syria.

US-backed Syrian forces retook the city of Raqqa from IS groupncontrol in October and pushed IS fighters out of a swath of territory along the Euphrates river valley in the following weeks.

Each investigation that found an allegation credible determined it was "more likely than not" that a coalition strike resulted in a civilian casualty, the report stated.

"Although all feasible precautions were taken and the decision to strike complied with the law of armed conflict, unintended civilian casualties unfortunately occurred," the Pentagon added.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Bruce Thornton:The bitter fruit of a destructive generation
The explosion of sexual harassment and assault claims, some going back forty years, is the inevitable consequence of the sexual revolution. Long before Bill Clinton’s sordid sexual escapades led him to impeachment, our culture had normalized public sexual behavior and mores once hidden away in the private realm, and kept there by laws, morals, and customs. Like many of our social pathologies today, our sexually saturated public culture and the unleashing of sexual predators are the bitter fruit of the free love movement of the Sixties.

Those who didn’t live through that period cannot imagine how quickly and radically our society was transformed. And that change was encouraged by certain species of dubious Pop-Freudian psychological ideas that had been combined with left-wing theories of political revolution. This synthesis was predicated on the delegitimization of the “bourgeois” virtues, morals, and values that had created the “false consciousness” empowering capitalist oppression. “If it feels good, do it” and “Fuck authority” became the most important personal and political imperatives.

Thus sexual liberation became an instrument of political “liberation,” and both revolutions enabled personal liberation, a weird mash-up of radical individualism and communist collectivism. Listen to Herbert Marcuse, denizen of the Frankfurt School and guru of the New Left:
The civilized morality is reversed by harmonizing instinctual freedom and order: liberated from the tyranny of repressive reason, the instincts tend toward free and lasting existential relations––they generate a new reality principle.

So too another popular intellectual of the Sixties, renegade classicist Norman O. Brown:
The life instinct, or sexual instinct, demands activity of a kind that in contrast to our current mode of activity can only be called play. The life instinct also demands a union with others, and with the world around us, based not on anxiety and aggression but on narcissism and erotic exuberance.

One can see this political justification for “free love” in the 1969 Wellesley commencement address of Hillary Rodham Clinton, who wrote her senior thesis on the most consequential theorist of modern left-wing activism, Saul Alinsky. “We’re searching for more immediate, ecstatic, and penetrating modes of living,” Rodham said. Her three sexually charged adjectives reveal the by then preposterous union of the sexual and the political revolution that starts with “questions about our institutions, about our colleges, about our churches, about our government,” Rodham continues, and enables “human reconstruction,” a phrase echoing the leftist “new man” necessary for achieving the collectivist utopia of social justice and equality.

The women’s movement in particular embraced this theory. Sexual mores were a tool of patriarchal power, the means for keeping women “barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen,” as the cliché went. Taking away women’s sexual agency and autonomy prevented them from “raising their consciousness” and “acknowledging their repression” by the bigoted, puritanical values of retrograde Catholics and “fundamentalist evangelicals” striving to “roll back the clock.” Emboldened by sexual liberation and its empowering pleasures, women now could demand freedom from “bourgeois” rules that denied them sexual ecstasy and personal expression. Now the “double standard” of sexual codes would be abolished, and women would become the equals of men, needing only laws to be changed or written that encoded that equality.

Validated by such ideas, the powerful human sex-drive, which smarter peoples before us knew had to be controlled to minimize its destructive consequences, now began to run riot. No one has captured the consequence of “revers[ing] civilized morality” as well as Tom Wolfe does in his brilliant 2000 essay “Hooking Up.” The “sexual revolution” had by then become a “lurid carnival.” Public life and popular culture from movies and magazines to television and the Internet were filled with pornography both soft and hard. Perversions like sadomasochism became chic, its appurtenances fashion statements, and later its practice the theme of a best-selling series of novels. Divorce lost its stigma, and men were now free to dump the mother of their children for “trophy” wives half their age without tainting their careers or prestige.

#2  I am beginning to think that all of those out of context, random sex scenes and female nudity in movies was a form of sexual harassment/punishment of "uppity" actresses.

I never understood why a movie had to have a 20 minute graphic sex scene burning film and taking up story time except to humiliate the actress, gratify the actor and the director, and fill up time in a movie that really didn't tell a story.

Cheap commercialism. When the Movie Theaters went multiple screens it was a moneymaker on over-priced popcorn sales to turn the blind eye to teenagers sneaking out of the G-rated films they bought tickets for... For Hollywood writers? Why work hard to write good dialogue when you can just put in minutes of Bump-n'Grind?
