John Conyers III - A Real Winner
Seems the young punk may be involved in insurance fraud:
[MLive] In 2010, Conyers III reported two laptops and $27,000 in concert tickets were stolen from a government-registered vehicle in downtown Detroit, raising questions about why he was driving a vehicle registered to his father's Congressional district.

The elder John Conyers said in a statement at the time the vehicle was used during the Thanksgiving holiday and said he'd make sure it wouldn't happen again.
...and an aspiring rapper, turning his life around:
In 2013, Conyers III posted a song to his YouTube channel about his experiences in the spotlight. The video contains multiple instances of inappropriate language.

The fabulous online life of John Conyers III, or why his family needs to do damage control immediately
For a minority Democrat, it's a resume enhancer.

Wisconsin Governer Walker Moving Ahead With Plan To Drug Test Food Stamp Users
If they can afford grass ....
[StarTribune] Gov. Scott Walker moved ahead Monday with his plans to make Wisconsin the first state to drug test able-bodied adults applying for food stamps, a move blocked by the federal government or found to be unconstitutional when other states have tried.

Wisconsin's plan was approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature more than two years ago, but it languished because it conflicts with federal rules prohibiting states from imposing additional eligibility criteria on food stamp recipients.

Florida had a drug test requirement for food stamp recipients that a federal appeals court blocked in 2014, finding it violated constitutional protections against unreasonable searches. Walker filed a federal lawsuit in 2015 seeking approval to test food stamp applicants, but it was rejected because then-President Barack Obama's administration had not yet formally rejected the state's request to do the testing.

Walker asked then-President elect Donald Trump's administration in December 2016 to make clear that drug screening is permissible, but it has not taken action and now Walker is moving ahead anyway.

Walker approved a rule change to implement the screening and sent it to the Legislature for review Monday. Walker spokesman Tom Evenson said the governor believes he has the authority to implement the rule.

The Legislature has four months to review the rule and it could take a year after its approval before the testing would begin. Lawsuits by those who oppose the drug testing are expected once it's implemented, assuming the federal government doesn't step in and block it in the meantime.

Under the plan, childless FoodShare participants who fail a drug test would be eligible for state-funded rehabilitation treatment if they don't have any other way to pay for it. FoodShare is Wisconsin's name for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The Walker administration estimated that a small fraction of the program's applicants ‐ 220, or 0.3 percent, of the 67,400 applicants a year ‐ would actually test positive for drugs.

Walker has touted the drug testing as a way to put more drug-free workers into the workplace.

Opponents say that's wrongheaded.

"The state could do far more to expand the workforce by investing in broader access to effective drug treatment programs, rather than spending scarce state resources on the administration of drug screening and testing requirements," said Jon Peacock, research director for Kids Forward, which advocates for children and families in Wisconsin.

Peacock said he was certain there would be a legal challenge over the constitutionality of drug screening food stamp recipients as well as whether such a move would be a violation of federal law governing the food stamp program.

Walker has pushed to expand drug testing for public benefit recipients. The budget he signed this year called for drug screening all able-bodied, childless adults applying for state Medicaid BadgerCare health benefits, pending federal approval. The budget also required drug test requirements for food stamp recipients would be expanded to parents of children ages 6 to 18.

Walker and 11 other governors in 2016 asked the federal government for permission to drug test food stamp recipients.

More Anti-Trump Messages Reportedly Sent By Members Of Mueller's Team: "A Lot More Is Going To Come Out"
[ZeroHedge] Days after it emerged that former Special Counsel investigator Peter Strzok was fired from Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia probe in August for sending anti-Trump text messages to his mistress while the two were working together on the Clinton email investigation, Sara Carter of Circa told a Fox News panel that there are more anti-Trump messages sent by Mueller's team floating around.

Tangentially, it has been widely reported that Mueller's special counsel is stacked with investigators who have donated to Obama, Clinton or other Democrat causes. As Jessica McBride reported in Heavy:

Andrew Weissmann: Weissmann is a Barack Obama and Democratic campaign donor, according to federal records. "Weissmann, who led the Enron investigation, previously gave $2,300 to Obama’s first presidential campaign in 2008 and $2,000 to the Democratic National Committee in 2006

Jeannie Rhee: donated $5,400 to Hillary Clinton in 2015 and 2016, according to FEC records. The records show she gave $2,500 each to Obama for America and Obama Victory Fund 2012 in 2011

Andrew Goldstein: According to Fox News, "Goldstein contributed a combined $3,300 to Obama’s campaigns in 2008 and 2012"

Greg Andres: FEC records show that Andres has donated at least $2,700 to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)

James Quarles: Donated thousands of dollars to the campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. He has also donated money recently to other Democrats, including Friends of Chuck Schumer and two other Democrats. He has a lengthy donation history dating back years. He did donate to two Republicans over the years, however.

Elizabeth Prelogar: A former law clerk to Justics Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagen, gave $250 to Hillary Clinton in 2016, according to FEC records. She also gave $500 total to Obama for America and the Obama Victory Fund 2012.

Brandon Van Grack: gave small amounts to ActBlue, an effort to raise money for Democrats, and to a Democratic candidate for Congress in 2012. In 2008, he gave about $286 to Barack Obama.

Rush Atkinson: donated $200 to Clinton’s campaign in 2016.

Kyle Freeny: In 2012, Freeny gave $300 to Obama. In 2008, Freeny also gave $250 to Obama, FEC records show.

Clinton Aides Went Unpunished After Making False Statements To Anti-Trump FBI Supervisor
One set of rules for thee, another one for me our corrupt FBI/Democrat coalition
[DailyCaller] The FBI agent who was fired from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation team for sending anti-Donald Trump text messages conducted the interviews with two Hillary Clinton aides accused of giving false statements about what they knew of the former secretary of state's private email server.

Neither of the Clinton associates, Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin, faced legal consequences for their misleading statements, which they made in interviews last year with former FBI section chief Peter Strzok.

But another Strzok interview subject was not so lucky.

Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser, pleaded guilty last week to lying during an interview he gave on Jan. 24 to Strzok and another FBI agent. Circa journalist Sara Carter reported on Monday that Strzok took part in that interview with the retired lieutenant general.

At the time, Strzok was the FBI's top investigator on the fledgling investigation into Russian interference in the presidential campaign. He was appointed to supervise that effort at the end of July 2016, just weeks after the conclusion of the Clinton email probe. CNN reported on Monday that as the FBI's No. 2 counterintelligence official, Strzok signed the documents that officially opened the collusion inquiry.

A Possible Defense of Michael Flynn

[PowerlineBlog] Like everyone else, I have puzzled over why General Michael Flynn apparently lied to the FBI when he had no reason to do so. We may never know the answer to that question, but here are a few possibly unrelated pieces of the puzzle:
1) Via InstaPundit, Michael Ledeen speculates about what drove Flynn’s guilty plea:

While working with General Michael Flynn on The Field of Fight, I interviewed many of his former colleagues in order to better understand my co-author. Virtually all of them described a man who cared deeply about the truth and presented it in circumstances that were certainly not favorable to him. These people portrayed General Flynn as a compulsive truth-teller.
So why has he now confessed to making false statements to the FBI?

It doesn’t make sense. I don’t believe Flynn intentionally misled the FBI, or anyone else, about his unquestionably licit conversations with the Russian ambassador.
I think the "guilty" plea tells us more about the Mueller investigation, and about the politicization of "justice" more generally, than it does about presumed malefactions by the retired general.

I think that Gen. Flynn admitted guilt in order to stop the pain for himself and his family.

It is notable that Mueller and company have apparently dropped their investigation of Gen. Flynn’s son, and the plea agreement will dramatically reduce the family’s legal expenses.

I believe Flynn has said that he has spent $1 million on lawyers, and felt compelled to plead guilty to something lest he be ruined financially.

2) Then we have this from Glenn Reynolds:
SO THE FBI SUPERVISOR WHO WAS TEXTING ABOUT HOW MUCH HE HATED TRUMP is the one who interviewed Mike Flynn. "A supervisory special agent who is now under scrutiny after being removed from Robert Mueller’s Special Counsel’s Office for alleged bias against President Trump also oversaw the bureau’s interviews of embattled former National Security advisor Michael Flynn, this reporter has learned. Flynn recently pled guilty to one-count of lying to the FBI last week. . . . Strzok was removed from his role in the Special Counsel’s Office after it was discovered he had made disparaging comments about President Trump in text messages between him and his alleged lover FBI attorney Lisa Page, according to the New York Times and Washington Post, which first reported the stories. Strzok is also under investigation by the Department of Justice Inspector General for his role in Hillary Clinton’s email server and the ongoing investigation into Russia’s election meddling. On Saturday, the House Intelligence Committee’s Chairman Devin Nunes chided the Justice Department and the FBI for not disclosing why Strzok had been removed from the Special Counsel three months ago, according to a statement given by the Chairman."

This stinks to high heaven. But wait, there’s more involving shady FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe [Ed.: McCabe is a Democratic Party activist masquerading as a law enforcement officer]:

According to another source, with direct knowledge of the Jan. 24 interview, McCabe had contacted Flynn by phone directly at the White House. White House officials had spent the "earlier part of the week with the FBI overseeing training and security measures associated with their new roles so it was no surprise to Flynn that McCabe had called," the source said.

McCabe told Flynn "some agents were heading over (to the White House) but Flynn thought it was part of the routine work the FBI had been doing and said they would be cleared at the gate," the source said.

"It wasn’t until after they were already in (Flynn’s) office that he realized he was being formally interviewed. He didn’t have an attorney with him," they added.
Comey was lecturing us about the FBI’s professionalism and integrity just today. Pathetic. This looks like a sleazy, deliberate trap.

There is no doubt that under the leadership of Robert Mueller and James Comey, the FBI became a sleazy, partisan operation. A thorough house-cleaning is needed, although it will come too late to do Michael Flynn any good.

3) I would like to see the transcript of the interview of Michael Flynn by Democratic Party activist Peter Strzok and his colleague that gave rise to Flynn’s guilty plea. What, exactly, did Strzok ask Flynn, and how, exactly, did Flynn respond? Is there actually any clear-cut falsehood in the transcript? I wonder.

Maybe Flynn really did try to mislead the FBI, for reasons that seem inexplicable. Or maybe he was an innocent man, crushed by the overwhelming power and financial resources of the Democratic Party, represented here by the FBI and Robert Mueller and his team of activists. If I could see the transcript of his interrogation, I would tell you which of those scenarios I think is closer to the truth.

PAUL ADDS: Andy McCarthy suggested a reason why Flynn might have lied about interactions with the Russian ambassador even though they didn’t break the law. He wrote:

Even though Flynn’s interactions with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak did not amount to Trump-campaign collusion in Russia’s perfidy, they did show that the Trump transition was dabbling in foreign relations with the Putin regime (among other foreign governments) and was attempting to undermine the policy of the incumbent Obama administration ‐ at least on the U.N. resolution condemning Israel. . . .

[W]e have only one president at a time. It is unseemly for an incoming administration to undermine the sitting president. If revealed, such behavior would be politically damaging enough. Here, that damage of Trump-transition interference with President Obama’s foreign relations would have been magnified by Russia’ involvement, given that Democrats were accusing Trump of colluding with Putin to throw the election. This made any conversation about the sanctions between Flynn and Kislyak look terrible, no matter how innocent they were and no matter how normal for a transition period.

To be clear, I’m not saying that Flynn was thinking this or, for that matter, that he lied. And I agree with John (and Glenn Reynolds) that Peter Strzok’s role as the interviewer of Flynn during the FBI investigation stinks. Like John, I would like to see a transcript of the interview.

I also wonder why the FBI questioned Flynn about his interactions with the Russian ambassador ‐ interactions that were legal and normal in a transition period. I have long thought that it was an attempt to set Flynn up. That suspicion deepens given the new information about the role of Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok in the proceedings.

Being set up does not, of course, excuse lying ‐ if Flynn lied. But the FBI’s apparent eagerness to entrap Flynn makes me want to see what, exactly Strzok asked Flynn, and how, exactly, Flynn responded.

Ex-US Congresswoman Brown to Be Sentenced for Fraud
[VOA News] A federal judge is expected to sentence former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown on Monday for fraud and other charges related to a purported charity for poor students that she used as a personal slush fund.
It's racism, of course. That's what she said.
The 71-year-old Brown was due in court at 10 a.m. in Jacksonville, a city in the Florida district she represented in Congress during her historic, nearly 25-year career.

Brown, a Democrat who was one of the first three African-Americans to be elected to Congress from Florida since Reconstruction, could spend the rest of her life in prison.

A federal jury in May convicted her of 18 of the 22 charges against her, which included fraud, lying on her tax returns and on her congressional financial disclosures.

Prosecutors outlined a pattern of fraud by Brown and her top aide that included using hundreds of thousands of dollars from the One Door for Education Foundation for lavish parties, trips and shopping excursions.

Brown's former chief of staff, Elias "Ronnie" Simmons, and One Door's executive director Carla Wiley accepted plea deals and testified against Brown. They are also scheduled to be sentenced Monday.

Federal prosecutors said the three used One Door to bring in more than $800,000 between 2012 and 2016, including a high-profile golf tournament at TPC Sawgrass. The Virginia-based One Door only gave out one scholarship for $1,200 to an unidentified person in Florida, according to court documents.

Simmons told jurors that his boss ordered him to take cash and checks from One Door's account on dozens of occasions and deposit the money into Brown's personal account.

Brown testified in her own defense, saying she was left in the dark about the details of One Door's money, and blamed the theft on Simmons.

U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Corrigan could sentence Brown to many years in prison for each of her 18 counts.

Her attorneys argued for leniency at a hearing last month, saying Brown's community work should mitigate her crimes.

According to the sources, tribal mediation was able to convince Saleh to leave his home in Sanaa to his hometown in Sinhan district south of the capital. The Houthis reportedly agreed provide Saleh with safety under a tribal agreement.

Sources told Al Arabiya that Saleh left his house in Sanaa with only one car along with his son and two leading members of his General People's Congress party.

A source said Saleh’s car arrived in the area of Sayan, a few kilometers from the village of Beit al-Ahmar in Sanhan, until the entourage were stranded and blocked by seven cars filled with Houthi holy warriors.

"The car that was carrying Saleh could not escape because the seven Houthi cars were completely blocking them," the source said.

Houthi Death Eaters reportedly forced the former president and his lover companions from their car, and were then ordered to fire their guns at Saleh’s stomach and head. Several sources said at least 35 rounds of ammunition was fired.

Saleh met with his confidants and party members on Monday near Sanaa’s 60th Street in the early hours of the morning.

According to available information, Houthi militias began bombing Saleh's house in Sanaa with RPG grenades.

After Saleh decided to go with his party leaders to his hometown Sinhan, 40 km southeast of Sanaa, the Houthi militias managed to encircle his motorcade. Clashes erupted to break the siege, where several of his bodyguards and leaders of the Congress Party were killed.

Saleh and a number of his assistants, including his brother's son, Tarek, who leads Yemen’s Elite Republican Guards, were chased by a military convoy of militias which sources said included at least 20 vehicles.

Ali al-Bukhiti, leader of the Yemen’s People Congress Party said that a sniper shot at Saleh in the head, while other reports said that the Houthis tossed in the calaboose

Saleh and a number of his assistants and then killed them at point-blank range.

Houthi militias, however, said they killed Saleh by attacking his motorcade with sniper bullets and rocket-propelled grenades.

A video published by the Houthis showed a scene similar to the killing of the Libyan Colonel Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
, where Houthi gunnies wrapped Saleh's body in a blanket and showed that Saleh had a bullet on the left side if his head.

Local residents have reported that their homes were rattled as Saudi warplanes rained bombs on several locations near Sana’a International Airport and the Interior Ministry, both under the control of the Houthi Ansarullah movement. The aerial strikes started late Sunday and continued into the early hours of Monday.

The casualty count is not known, with sources noting that the airport itself was not pounded during the aerial attacks.

Riyadh has intensified its Arclight airstrikes since the breakdown of an anti-Saudi alliance between the Houthi fighters and forces loyal to Saleh last week.

On Saturday, Saleh called upon the Yemeni armed forces and police not to take orders from the Ansarullah movement "under any circumstances or at any place" and expressed his intention "to turn a new page" in relations with the Saudi-led coalition if it agreed to end its military aggression against and the blockade on Yemen.

Since November 29, armed festivities sparked by forces loyal to Saleh, have continued against Houthi forces that are at the forefront of a retaliatory war against the Saudi-led military coalition. Saleh loyalists accuse the Houthi fighters of raiding their bases across Sana’a and beyond, an allegation that the Houthi leader has strongly denied

Two soldiers killed in separate clashes with NPA, BIFF
[Kicker Daily] Two Philippine soldiers and two civilians were killed in two separate encounters between troops and communist militants and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters in Mindanao on Sunday.

The first clash took place in Barangay Ned in the town of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato where two soldiers were killed when around 25 New People’s Army rebels engaged members of the 27th Infantry Battalion in a gun battle that lasted an hour. Seven soldiers were also injured in the encounter.

The militants were believed to be part of Guerrilla Front 73 – Far South Mindanao Region.

Meanwhile, two villagers were killed when they were caught in the crossfire between the military and BIFF militants in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao.

The victims were identified as Unti Kamama, 60, and his grandson, Mohammad Kamama, 13. Six residents of Barangay Timbangan, including four children were also hurt. A soldier was wounded in the incident as well.

Reports said around 30 BIFF fighters attacked an Army detachment in the area, resulting in the clash.

Military spokesman Arnel Dela Vega believes the attack was in retaliation to the more than 30 BIFF members killed in recent offensives by combined forces of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the military.

Syrian Army gathering takes direct hit from ISIS anti-tank missile in rural Deir Ezzor
[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS has not given up hopes of turning the tides in eastern Syria, signified by stubborn reluctance to withdraw from a narrow salient stretching from the eastern fringes of Homs through to the Euphrates River in southern Deir Ezzor.

combatants based in the desert west of Abu Kamal fired an anti-tank missile towards a group of Syrian soldiers that could be seen ducking for cover in the horizon, possibly killing some of them:

In the same day, two ISIS suicide kabooms struck SAA positions further north on the outskirts of Salhiyah town amid attempts by the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) elite Tiger Forces to liberate the last ISIS-held villages and towns on the Euphrates River.

Given the current rate of advance, the SAA’s Big Dawn offensive is expected to reach its conclusion in approximately a month, culminating in the complete capture of the Islamic State heartland.

[ALMASDARNEWS] Fierce festivities broke out between the ISIS and the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
terrorist groups when the former assaulted the latter’s positions in the Khojiany administration of Afghanistan’s Nanjarhar province about 6 days ago.

ISIS’s assault led to the krazed killer faction’s capture of several populated regions in the province and the disposition of hundreds of locals escaping the escalating violence. Taliban’s forces launched a counteroffensive two days later and managed to successfully expel ISIS from the Adur and Sur Dagh localities.

Unfortunately for the weary Talibs, US-backed Afghan government forces would take advantage of this inter-jihadist violence and launch vicious assaults on Taliban’s positions in the province with the aid of relentless artillery bombardments and Arclight airstrikes.

Spawning out of thin air, ISIS has managed to emerge as a dominant force in Nanjarhar province within an impressively short time frame.

The unknown button men looted all the rebel group’s heavy weaponry including heavy machine guns and TOW missiles in addition to vehicles in what would be a crippling blow to the krazed killer faction. Though it is worth noting that the 23rd Division has been very dormant in recent times with its last recorded participation in battle against the government forces in March during the Hama battles.

It is not unlikely that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS) is responsible for those attacks as there are many precedents to such cases including the most recent HTS assault on Jund al-Malahem two days ago in southern Idlib. HTS has a long track record of looting and dismantling rebel groups like the Syrian Revolutionary Front and Jaish al-Mujahideen.

Libya: Mass Extra-Judicial Execution
[All Africa] Armed groups loyal to Libyan National Army forces (LNA) appear to have summarily executed dozens of men in the LNA-controlled town of al-Abyar, Human Rights Watch said today.

On October 26, 2017, local police forces discovered the bodies of 36 men, all of them executed, close to a main road south east of al-Abyar, 50 kilometers east of Benghazi. Authorities transferred the bodies to a hospital, where families came to identify them. Relatives of six of the victims told Human Rights Watch that the men had been locked away

on various dates by gangs loyal to the LNA in Benghazi or in other areas controlled by the LNA.

This incident comes after a series of unlawful killings and summary executions in Benghazi that prompted the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor to issue an arrest warrant against an LNA special forces commander on August 15.

Following the discovery of the 36 bodies in al-Abyar, Gen. Khalifa Hiftar, the LNA chief, ordered the military prosecutor of the eastern region on October 28, to conduct an investigation. The LNA and the military prosecution have yet to announce any investigation results.

"The Libyan National Army's pledges to conduct inquiries into repeated unlawful killings in areas under their control in eastern Libya have so far led nowhere," said Eric Goldstein, deputy Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. "The LNA will be condoning apparent war crimes if their pledge to investigate the gruesome discovery in al-Abyar proves to be another empty promise."

Mosul clean up continues

Recovering bodies efforts concluded in Nineveh: Civil Defense

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) The civil defense department in Nineveh has announced concluding the recovery of bodies in the province, an official said.

Speaking to Alghad Press on Monday, Brig. Gen, Mohamed al-Jawari, head of the department, said, “the civil defense team concluded processes of recovering bodies in Mosul, especially in the western side of the city.”

The teams, according to Jawari, “will respond to calls from citizens over presence of any bodies to remove them from under the rubble.”

“Over the past period of time, the civil defense teams managed to recover bodies from under the debris, in the wake of calls made by citizens over presence of bodies,” he added.

Regarding estimates on the accurate figures of recovered bodies, Jawari said, “no accurate information on number of the bodies, however, they exceed 2,000.”

Last week, Col. Zaid Ibrahim, of the department, told Alghad Press that 95 percent of the bodies were in the western side of Mosul as well as the Old City.

MP: Iraq’s 2018 budget excludes 30.000 mobilization fighters from payroll
With ISIS ousted, it’s time to leave the mopping up to the professionals. Give the paramilitaries a parade and the thanks of a grateful nation, and send ‘em home to their wives and girlfriends.

alongside the government from the payroll earmarked for the forces, a parliament member was quoted saying.

Faleh al-Khazaali, a member of the Iraqi parliament’s security and defense committee, was quoted saying, in press statements on Monday, that the draft "included allocations for 122.000 fighter of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), while the official number of fighters on the ground who receive salaried from the mobilization institution is 152.000".

Khazaali labeled the budget "unfair to the mobilization".

The parliament concluded a consultative session on the draft on Sunday, and referred the document to the finance committee to turn it its final form.

Last week, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi vowed to give Popular Mobilization Forces payments equal to other government troops. "The government pledges to equalize the salaries of the Popular Mobilization Forces with their peers at security forces", he stated.

Popular Mobilization Forces, an alliance of volunteer Shia paramilitary forces, have actively backed the Iraqi government’s military campaign against IS since 2014, when they were formed upon a top Shia clergy edict to counter the Sunni Jihadist group.

PMF won official recognition as a national force late 2016, becoming under the command of the prime minister, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces.

Peshmerga says federal, paramilitary troops rally, south of Sulaimaniya
Sulaimaniya (IraqiNews.com) The Kurdish Peshmerga Ministry has said that the Iraqi federal and paramilitary troops are rallying in south of Sulaimaniya, describing the step as dangerous one that does not helping de-escalation.

In press remarks on Monday, Halgurd Hikmat said, "the recent deployment by al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) in Cremian region, between Jalawla and Calar towns, is considered breaching to the truce between Iraqi and Peshmerga troops."

Moreover, he said that "deploying the Iraqi army and PMFs at the time, when the truce is still ongoing is dangerous and does not serve efforts of de-escalation."

Hikamt also urged Iraqi troops to stop the deployment and stick to the truce to avoid escalation.

Peshmerga announced on Wednesday receiving U.S. assurances of continued military assistance, with USD 364 million in financial aid for 2018. This came during a meeting between Acting Peshmerga Minister, Karim Sinjari, in Kurdistan Region’s capital, Erbil, and Becker, commander of Iraq security cooperation at the U.S. Central Command.

Earlier in November, Karim al-Nuri, a senior PMFs leader said, "al-Hashd al-Shaabi has no intentions for attacks against Erbil or deployment outside the borders of the federal government.

Iraqi government forces approached the southern borders of Erbil, capital of semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region, shortly after engaging in festivities with the region’s forces in Qushtapa and Altun Kupri in northern Kirkuk in October.

Baghdad had declared intentions to retake areas disputed on with Erbil following the Kurdistan Region’s vote for independence from Iraq in September, urging Peshmerga to cooperate with federal troops.

Jihadists hold tough at northeast Hama stronghold, Syrian Army advance halted
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
were able to beat back another powerful attack by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) at the strategic town of al-Rahjan in northeast Hama.

Led by the Qalamoun Shield forces of the 3rd Division, the Syrian Arab Army began the day by storming the surrounding hilltop and farms of al-Rahjan.

The Syrian Army would manage to take control of al-Rahjan Hill and its corresponding farms after a breaking through Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s front-lines.

Once these sites were captured, the Syrian Army entered al-Rahjan from its southern axis; however, this advance would be short-lived as the jihadist rebels mounted an important counter-attack.

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham would manage to recapture all of the territory they lost and restore control over al-Rahjan.

(ISIS) and al-Qaeda for leadership of the global jihad movement found a new theatre ‐ the Sinai peninsula ‐ as al-Qaeda made efforts to reenter the Egyptian arena and challenge the hegemony of ISIS in Sinai, or at least to put on a media show of challenging ISIS's Sinai Province. The struggle was manifested on the ground, in actual fighting between the two organizations, and in online propaganda, in an exchange of invective and threats. The struggle in Sinai mirrors the struggle between ISIS and al-Qaeda in other areas, such as Syria, Libya, Yemen, and elsewhere.

Jund al-Islam (JI), al-Qaeda's affiliate in Sinai, grabbed credit for an October 11, 2017 attack on ISIS fighters that killed a number of them, and boasted that it has the power to "uproot" ISIS. If the attack was indeed perpetrated by JI, it constitutes a precedent, since to date ISIS has not faced a challenge from within the jihadi movement. However,

According to military sources, four other hard boyz including two prominent field commanders were killed in the missile strike that targeted their headquarters.

This development is the latest in a series of setbacks suffered by the faceless myrmidons in strategic rebel-held bastion bordering Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. If the situation keeps heading down this route, the bandidos holy warriors will soon find themselves riding green buses to Idlib or Jarablus, just like their counterparts from West Ghouta, Darayya, Barada Valley, and al-Tal.

Two Bedouin arrested over murder of IDF soldier in Arad
[Ynet] Shin Bet confirms two Negev Bedouin residents were placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
Friday night on suspicion of involvement in nationalistically-motivated stabbing attack in Arad that claimed the life of 19-year-old Sgt. Ron Kokia.

Security forces arrested last week two Negev residents on suspicion of involvement in a terror attack carried out last Thursday, in which Sgt. Ron Yitzhak Kokia was fatally stabbed in Arad, it was cleared for publication Monday.

During the investigation, one of the suspects implicated himself in the attack and informed his interrogators where the Tavor assault rifle was taken after being stolen from the 19-year-old Kokia in the murder.

The two suspects, both Bedouin, were arrested on Friday night, 24 hours after the attack, by the Shin Bet, which determined during the investigation that the stabbing was nationalistically-motivated.

The two were arrested, the Shin Bet said, after intense intelligence operations and a widescale manhunt.

On Sunday, one of the suspects took the security forces to the scene of the stabbing, where he reconstructed exactly how it took place.

A gag order was placed over the identities of the suspects.

Kokia, who served in the Nahal Brigade, was stabbed to death while waiting for the bus outside a mall in Arad on Thursday night in what police believed from the outset was likely a nationalistically-motivated murder.

He was laid to rest Sunday afternoon at Tel Aviv's Kiryat Shaul military cemetery, with some 2,000 people in attendance.
Update from The Times of Israel at 8:40 a.m. ET:
Bedouin leaders disavow soldier’s killers, urge coexistence

Mayors of Bedouin communities in the south of the country met Tuesday with the mayor of Arad to reaffirm their commitment to coexistence after the arrest of two Bedouin Israelis for the fatal stabbing of an IDF soldier last week.

They met with Mayor Nissan Ben Hamo at his office in the southern town’s municipal building. Among those who took part in the meeting were the mayors and regional council leaders of Rahat, Hura, Ar’ara Banegev, and Al-Kasom.

Talal al-Krenawi, mayor of Rahat, urged his community members to turn away from violence.

“We call on you, the young people, not to resort to violence,” he said. “These [attackers] are weeds that must be uprooted.”

Krenawi called for continued coexistence between Jewish and Bedouin communities in the area, Hadashot TV news reported.

“We denounce the attack and we are against violence,” he said. “Don’t let this grave incident harm the coexistence between us. We are in favor of tolerance and call on all the young people not to resort to violence. We must work together and live together; this is my country, as it is yours.”

Krenawi said that the Bedouin wanted to live in peace with their Jewish neighbors. “Our parents who were here wanted to live in peace with their Jewish neighbors. The way of terror attacks is not our way and is not acceptable to us.”

The nail bomb was blackmail: threats like DHL extortion plot in Potsdam more common than you think
[DW] The commotion surrounding a suspicious package at a Potsdam Christmas market is how Germans found out about an extortion case at shipping giant DHL. Usually, companies keep such threats secret ‐ for good reason.

A great deal about the suspicious package planted in Potsdam last week was unusual, but not the fact that it was part of an extortion attempt against a large company. Between 7,500 and 8,000 blackmail cases are reported in Germany every year, says Frank Roselieb of the Institute for Crisis Research at the German University of Kiel. Based on its analysis of crime statistics, the institute concludes that there are on average 150 blackmail threats each week.
Goodness. How anti-social.
But the public only ever finds out about a very few cases, such as this week's DHL incident or the recent supermarket extortion case in which a man threatened to contaminate baby food in stores if the company refused to give into his demand for millions of euros. Most of the threats are kept under wraps. According to Roselieb, no one is interested in "shouting out such threats from the rooftops."

Recalls, not revelations
Delivery service DHL is currently the target of multiple threats
Companies face the dilemma of needing to protect their reputation while at the same time protecting their customers. For this reason, instead of revealing blackmail threats to the public, companies will often issue product recalls for supposed "precautionary consumer protection." Businesses are understandably reluctant to talk about poisoning and extortion.

The risk consulting firm Result Group knows why most cases are concealed. "The worst thing that can happen to a company is that customers turn their backs on it," says Result Group's Christoph Eichel. The consultants recommend that companies prepare themselves "for all eventualities" so that employees are aware of the company's procedures when they are blackmailed.

Last week's threat temporarily shut down a Christmas market in Potsdam

Blackmailers normally don't go public with their demands because they want to avoid the risk of being exposed. That is one reason why Roselieb believes that the DHL blackmailer, for instance, is an amateur. A parcel bomb offers up many clues to Sherlocks, everything from the type of glue to the type of explosive used.

Cameroon: Government 'Declares War' On Secessionist Rebels
[All Africa] The secessionist crisis in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
's western region is deepening, with the government promising to crack down hard after anglophone bully boyz rubbed out four soldiers and two coppers last week.

The soldiers were killed in an ambush on a military convoy outside the town of Mamfe on 29 November in Cameroon's anglophone South West Region. The coppers were killed the following night in the nearby town of Eyoumojock.

The secessionist Ambazonia Defense Forces, the armed wing of the Ambazonia Governing Council, grabbed credit for the attacks.

Ambazonia is the name anglophone separatists have given to the homeland they hope to carve out of western Cameroon in this majority French-speaking country.

The shootings bring to 10 the number of security forces killed since last month.

Promising action, Defence Minister Joseph Beti Assomo said on Saturday that "measures will be taken immediately" to "eradicate this inconvenient situation", without elaborating further.

State radio was blunter. "[President] Paul Biya has declared war on these Death Eaters who seek secession," it announced.

Britain
British aid scheme suspended amid allegations of payments to Syrian jihadis
[TheGuardian] The government has suspended a multimillion-pound foreign aid project amid allegations that money paid to a contractor in Syria was reaching the pockets of jihadist groups.

The plug was pulled on the scheme funding a civilian police force following claims its members were being made to hand cash to extremists.

Officers from the Free Syrian Police were apparently also working with courts accused of torture and summary executions according to allegations made in a BBC Panorama documentary due to air on Monday evening.

The Foreign Office confirmed on Sunday night that it had suspended access to the justice and community security scheme (Ajacs), which has been running since late 2014, following grave concerns about its management by the British contractor, Adam Smith International.

Britain is one of six countries supporting the community-led police force set up after the Syrian uprising and stationed in regions held by opposition rebels.

According to documents seen by Panorama, police officers in Aleppo province were forced to hand over cash to the extremist group in control of the area, Nour al-Din al-Zinki.

The programme, Jihadis You Pay For, also claims that the Syrian branch of al-Qaida, Jabhat al-Nusra, had handpicked police officers for two stations in Idlib province. Other evidence suggested dead and fictitious people were on the force’s payroll.

Adam Smith International, which strongly denies the allegations, said it had managed taxpayers’ money “effectively to confront terrorism”.

When the company visited one police station, supposedly the base for 57 police officers, it could not find a single officer, the investigation found. The contractor said it accounted for the officers on subsequent visits and that it had found very few instances of dead officers remaining on the salary list in Syria.

It said it used cash because there was “no practical alternative” and that officers imposed by Jabhat al-Nusra were detected within two months.

Payments to the stations funding the extremist group Nour al-Din al-Zinki were stopped in August 2016, it added.

In a statement published on Sunday, Adam Smith International said Panorama’s allegations about the Ajacs project were “false and misleading”.

Iraq’s oil company: country’s exports up to USD6.83 bn In November
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq exported crude oil worth USD6.83 billion during the month of November, the country’s marketing company said in a statistic released on Monday.

Alghad Press website quoted the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) saying that that was the worth of 105.51 million barrels exported during the month, with an average price per barrel of USD57.194.

The statistic put the daily export rate at 3.503 million barrels.

"Kirkuk fields did not record the export of any petroleum quantities during last November.

Iraq’s oil ministry had unveiled intentions to drive up crude oil production to five million barrels a day before the end of 2017.

Last week, Iraq’s oil minister said he supports an OPEC decision to extend cuts in oil supply, a measure aimed at increasing prices.

Iraq is OPEC’s second largest oil producer following Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Iraq’s oil exports for October were worth more than USD5.455 billion, with more than 103.7 million barrels recorded, a daily export rate of 3.3 million barrels and an average price per barrel of more than 52.5.

province military officials on Monday said in the last eight months foreign forces along with Afghan forces carried out over 400 Arclight airstrikes against forces of Evil in different parts of the province.

The 215 Maiwand Military Corps Commander, General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, said the strikes carried out by the Afghan forces and foreign troops on forces of Evil and have had good results in the elimination of the gangs.

"In the last eight months Afghan and foreign forces carried out 400 airstrikes in which a big number of Taliban

Helmand provincial council members have meanwhile said the airstrikes did not have any impact on Lion of Islam’s activities in the province. According to council members, there are still a few districts of the province are under Taliban control.

"If the security forces want to retake a district, they can do that. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
holding the district for a long time is difficult because there are not enough forces," Ataullah Afghan, head of the council said.

The 215 Maiwand Military Corps is optimistic about the increase of airstrikes while Baghran, Nowzad, Musa Qala, Khanshin and Desho districts of the province have been under Taliban control for some years.

Fighting is also ongoing between Taliban and security forces in parts of Lashkargah city, the capital city of the province.

Zimbabwe's new president urges public unity to revive ailing economy
[PRESSTV] Zim-bob-we's new president has called for public unity to revive the African country's ailing economy as his new cabinet took the oath of office.

Emmerson Mnangagwa made the appeal after he swore in the 22-member cabinet at State House in the capital Harare on Monday.

"I have sworn in a new cabinet just to finish the term of the former president, which is a period of six to seven months," Mnangagwa said.

"I believe with my team we will stand up to the challenge," the president added, noting, "I want them (Zim-bob-weans) to be united, we must grow our economy."

Mnangagwa has drawn criticism for appointing officers from the military which played a key role in the events leading to his ascent to power. The cabinet includes Air Marshal Perrance Shiri, who was appointed agriculture and lands minister, and Major General Sibusiso Moyo, who is now in charge of foreign affairs.

Congo-Kinshasa: Thousands of Congolese Fleeing into Zambia to Escape Violence
[All Africa] The U.N. refugee agency reports the number of refugees that have fled into Zambia to escape militia violence in Haut-Katanga and Tanganyika Provinces of Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
now has topped 12,000.

The agency reports more than 8,400 Congolese refugees have arrived in Zambia in just the last three months, indicating a worsening of the situation in south-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Government forces reportedly are killing many civilians in response to the rebellion in Haut-Katanga and Tanganyika Provinces against the continued rule of the country’s President, Joseph Kabila.

To put the increasing instability in the country in perspective, UNHCR front man, Babar Baloch, notes more than four million people are internally displaced in DRC. He told VOA within the past month alone, 200,000 more people have fled their homes.

"When you do the math, the rough total of internal displacement comes to around 6,500 people being displaced each day. Refugees who are arriving, they fear that as violence is intensifying, they fear that more people could be forced out from DRC into Zambia," said the front man.

Baloch said some 80 percent of the refugees are women and kiddies, driven out by the extreme brutality of rampaging militias. He said civilians reportedly are being killed, women raped, property looted and houses torched.

Egyptian forces kill 5 militants northeast of Cairo
[PRESSTV] Egyptian security forces have killed five suspected bully boyz during a raid on a desert hideout to the northeast of the capital Cairo.

Egypt's Interior Ministry made the announcement in a statement on Monday, saying the bully boyz had been killed in a shootout in an area located between Ramadan city and Bilbeis town in the Nile Delta province of Sharqiya.

The security forces came under heavy fire as they surrounded the hideout, which forced them to "deal with the source of the shooting," the ministry said, adding that the incident led to the deaths of five unidentified bully boyz and apprehension of six other people.

The statement noted that the bully boyz had been training to use firearms at the site, where security forces found bomb-making materials, assault rifles and ammunition for possible terrorist attacks.

The ministry said they also tossed in the calaboose
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
six other "elements" from the same group who were observing "some vital buildings in preparation to carry out a series of hostile operations against them" in Cairo and the southern province of Assiut.

The ministry did not link the bully boyz or those arrested to any specific group.

US not going to go to nuclear war with North Korea: Analyst
[PRESSTV] Despite all this saber-rattling by US officials against North Korea, the United States is not going to launch a nuclear attack on the Asian country, according to Michael Burns, a political and military analyst in New York.

Burns made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Monday while commenting on US threats and projection of military power against North Korea.

On Monday, US F-22 fighter jets arrived in South Korea to start air combat exercises amid escalating tensions between North Korea and the United States.

The stealthy F-22s and F-35s that roared into the sky over South Korea on Monday are among 230 American and South Korean fighters carrying out the annual Vigilant Ace 18 air combat exercises on the Korean Peninsula.

About 12,000 troops are also participating in the war games, which have angered North Korea. They are scheduled to end Friday.

North Korea on Monday warned that the "ceaseless large-scale war games" by the US and South Korea are "creating a situation that a nuclear war may break out any moment" on the Korean Peninsula.

Then what? We can't force China to deal with them after we blew them up. South Korea would be the natural but China will oppose and South Korea will need rebuilding on her own.

The US should float a plan to have Japanese peacekeepers in North Korea as a way to motivate China to step up and do what they have to do to avoid US action.

Militia chief arrest ‘dangerous moment’ for Sudan’s Darfur
[ARABNEWS] By arresting Darfur’s powerful militia chief Musa Hilal, Khartoum has tightened its control over Sudan’s strife-torn region but analysts say it might open a new chapter of violence.

Hilal, a former aide to President Omar Bashir, was tossed in the clink
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
last week by Sudan’s counter-insurgency forces near his hometown of Mustariaha in North Darfur state after fierce festivities that left several dead.

"This is a dangerous moment actually," Magnus Taylor, Sudan analyst with the think-tank International Crisis Group, told AFP.

"By taking out Musa Hilal, they have pitched two different Darfuri Arab clans against each other."

Hilal, the top leader of the Mahamid clan of Darfur’s biggest Arab tribe, the Rezeigat, was captured by a unit of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by other members of the broader Rezeigat tribe.

"This is the start of intra-fighting, this is only the beginning," said Ahmed Adam, a research associate at London University.

"No doubt, Hilal’s arrest will impact the security and stability of Darfur."

During the initial years of the Darfur conflict that erupted in 2003, Arab militias fought alongside government forces against the region’s black African rebels.

Hilal then led the government-allied Arab Janjaweed militia, notorious button men on horseback who swept through Darfur marauding villagers and fighting rebels who had taken up arms against Khartoum’s Arab-dominated government, accusing it of economic and political marginalization.

Sheikh Qassim's family and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights group confirmed his hospitalization on Monday and said he was in "critical condition."

He has been under house arrest for around 500 days amid daily protest gatherings in the northwestern village of Diraz which is besieged by regime forces.

Bahrain's leading political party al-Wefaq and rights bodies said the holy man, who is in his late 70s, was suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

Deputy Secretary-General of al-Wefaq Sheikh Hussein al-Daihi said the spiritual leader was taken from his home to a private hospital amid tight security measures.

The holy man, known as the spiritual leader of the country's Shia Moslem majority, has been hailed as a source of inspiration for their peaceful demonstrations against the ruling Al Khalifa regime.

Jordan sentences Syrian to death over border attack
[ARABNEWS] A state security court in Jordan on Monday sentenced one Syrian murderous Moslem to death and handed life sentences to three others for their role in a suicide kaboom attack on a Jordanian military border post that killed seven guards last year.

Military judge Col. Mohammad al-Afif said the men, in their early twenties, were involved in helping ISIS stage the suicide kaboom that shook the kingdom in June last year.

Afif said the four had provided photos and intelligence about the Jordanian military post to a ISIS leader in the former de facto capital of the murderous Moslems, Raqqa in Syria. The ISIS leader then sent the jacket wallah.

The military outpost was located a few hundred meters away from Rukban camp in a no-man’s land where thousands of Syrian refugees were stranded and near where the frontiers of Iraq, Syria and Jordan meet.

The court found the four, who were residents of the camp, guilty of "abetting terrorist acts that led to the death of human beings" and other charges of committing "terrorist acts using automatic weapons."

A fifth defendant was acquitted. They had all pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
when the trial began last March.

Officials said at the time the suicide bomber drove an car bomb at full speed from behind a berm and evaded troops to reach the Jordanian post and detonate his car.

The blast, for which ISIS grabbed credit a few days later, also left 15 soldiers maimed, officials said.

The area was later declared a closed military zone and the incident disrupted aid to tens of thousands of Syrian refugees.

Suicide attacker killed, three foreigners arrested, east of Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A suicide bomber was killed while three other foreigners were arrested in a security operation, east of Diyala, a commander said on Monday.

“The police in Diyala managed to kill a suicide attacker and arrest three others of foreign nationalities in an operation that took place in the depth of Hamreen mountains,” Maj. Gen. Mazhar al-Azzawi, commander of Dijla Operations, told AlSumaria News.

“The command will resume efforts to eliminate the presence of extremist groups in Diyala,” he added.

Security troops managed to kill several suicide attackers over the past few months in different regions across the province.

Intense clashes breakout in the West Bank
[ALMASDARNEWS] Fresh festivities erupted near the West Bank village of Qusra on Monday after a group of Israelis returned to the scene of last week’s deadly incident in a march led by a right-wing activist.

On Thursday, a Paleostinian farmer was rubbed out by a settler after refusing to move from his land while Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) helped extricate a group of Israeli hikers hiding in a cave who were being targeted by Paleostinians throwing stones.

In the latest wave of violence, around 50 Paleostinians began rolling burning tyres and hurled rocks after the Otzma Yehudit group marched on the site despite the IDF declaring the area a "closed military zone".

Footage shows IDF soldiers firing tear gas. Paleostinian media say live ammunition was also fired and one Paleostinians was critically injured.

Terms of agreement with Faizabad protesters 'cannot be legally justified', says IHC
[DAWN] Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday questioned the legal standing of the agreement reached between the government and Faizabad protest leaders, saying that none of the terms could be legally justified.

"How can cases filed under the Terrorism Act be dismissed?" he asked during a hearing at the IHC regarding the recent sit-in at the Faizabad Interchange in the capital.

After the weeks-long protest that had virtually paralysed the capital, the government and leaders of Tehrik-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLY) reached an agreement on November 26 in which the former conceded to the latter's demands ‐ including dropping all the cases against the protesters.

The IHC, however, had noted a "number of serious objections on the terms of agreement" and expressed its displeasure over the army’s role in the settlement made with the protesters.

"Who is the army to adopt a mediator's role?" Justice Siddiqui had inquired in the previous hearing. "Where does the law assign this role to a major general?"

The IHC recommended that the legal standing of the agreement should be discussed in a joint session of the parliament, DawnNews reported.

Attorney General of Pakistain (AGP) Ashtar Ausaf, however, disagreed with the recommendation, saying that since the high court had taken suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
notice of the matter, the judiciary should oversee it. He had appeared in court on Justice Siddiqui's orders.

The AGP requested the court to grant him some time to determine the legal position of the army's role as an arbitrator in the negotiations, saying that he was not in the country and needed time to prepare the report.

In a written order on November 27, the IHC bench had directed the attorney general to help the court determine how the armed forces could act as an arbitrator.

The Intelligence Bureau also presented a report on the botched operation against the protesters by the police in court today while the chief commissioner of Islamabad submitted a detailed report on the protest.

Meanwhile,
...back at the secret hideout, Scarface Al sneeringly put his proposition to little Nell...
special assistant to the prime minister, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, excused himself from IHC's order to prepare a report on the sit-in.

On November 27, the high court had tasked Zafarullah with filing a report on "what happened [during the sit-in] where and when" within 10 days.

The judge remarked that the protesters were guilty of blasphemy, pointing to the language used by the protest leaders and participants during the sit-in.

Israeli jets reported to strike Syrian military site near Damascus
[IsraelTimes] Syrian state TV claims its air defenses intercepted three missiles; reports come days after Israel said to hit Iranian base

Israel’s military struck a Syrian military installation on the outskirts of Damascus late Monday night, according to initial reports.

According to the reports out of Syria, the strike targeted the Jamarya military facility and research center, northwest of the Syrian capital.

"Israeli planes targeted the Jamarya region near Damascus including a scientific research center and warehouses where weapons and ammunition of the regime and its allies were stocked," Rami Abdel Rahmane, director of the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group told AFP.

Syrian state TV reported that its air defenses intercepted three missiles shot by Israel. The Syrian regime often makes such claims.

"Our air defenses blocked an Israeli missile attack on one of our positions in Damascus province and downed three of the targets," Syrian state media said.

Video posted online from near Damascus showed flashes followed by large bangs, apparently showing either the strikes. An air defense missile can also be seen being shot.
Brief video of something happening at night can be seen at the link.
The reports could be immediately confirmed. Israeli authorities do not generally comment on specific instances of air strikes.

The same site was reportedly targeted by Israeli jets in January 2013 targeting a convoy of Russian-made SA-17 missiles being transferred to the Hezbollah terror group, according to Western sources.

The report comes three days after Israeli jets reportedly hit an Iranian military base being constructed in Syria, some 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Israel’s northern border.

Satellite images published earlier on Monday showed the destruction at that site, the al-Qiswah base south of Damascus.
Image can be seen at the link, and there are more satellite images of the ten damaged and destroyed buildings on the Iranian base here.
According to Al Masdar, at least seven missiles came from Lebanese air space on Monday, just like the last round.

Supreme Court allows full enforcement of Trump travel ban
About F*&king time they swatted down these rogue Democrat judges
[AyPeeNews] The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Trump administration to fully enforce a ban on travel to the United States by residents of six mostly Muslim countries.

This is not a final ruling on the travel ban: Challenges to the policy are winding through the federal courts, and the justices themselves ultimately are expected to rule on its legality.

But the action indicates that the high court might eventually approve the latest version of the ban, announced by President Donald Trump in September. Lower courts have continued to find problems with the policy.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said the White House is "not surprised by today's Supreme Court decision permitting immediate enforcement of the President's proclamation limiting travel from countries presenting heightened risks of terrorism."

Opponents of this and previous versions of the ban say they show a bias against Muslims. They say that was reinforced most recently by Trump's retweets of anti-Muslim videos.

The ban applies to travelers from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.
"President Trump's anti-Muslim prejudice is no secret. He has repeatedly confirmed it, including just last week on Twitter. It's unfortunate that the full ban can move forward for now, but this order does not address the merits of our claims," said Omar Jadwat, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Immigrants' Rights Project. The ACLU is representing some opponents of the ban.

Just two justices, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor, noted their disagreement with court orders allowing the latest policy to take full effect.

The new policy is not expected to cause the chaos that ensued at airports when Trump rolled out his first ban without warning in January.

The ban applies to travelers from Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. Lower courts had said people from those nations with a claim of a "bona fide" relationship with someone in the United States could not be kept out of the country. Grandparents, cousins and other relatives were among those courts said could not be excluded.

The courts were borrowing language the Supreme Court itself came up with last summer to allow partial enforcement of an earlier version of the ban.

Now, those relationships will no longer provide a blanket exemption from the ban, although visa officials can make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

The justices offered no explanation for their order, but the administration had said that blocking the full ban was causing "irreparable harm" because the policy is based on legitimate national security and foreign policy concerns.

#2  There's a book out there called Marching Orders that reveal what the Japanese consulates were saying in the broken code transmissions prior to Pearl Harbor, something like 'friends' in the communities. If that info was passed circa '41-'42 to the court, we may understand why they upheld the interment action. Likewise, if intel has been provided to today's SCOTUS that shows 'agents' transiting into the US via these locales, it would be institutional suicide for SCOTUS to act contrary to vital national security interests.

Freed from blame?
[DAWN] SIX and a half years after the lethal raid on Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
, former US president Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
has come up with a statement that vindicates the position maintained by Pakistain: the latter did not know the whereabouts of the late Osama bin Laden
... who is now beyond all cares and woe...
until he was killed by American SEALs in action on May 2, 2011. Mr Obama made this remark during an interview in India, saying his government had no evidence that proved Islamabad was aware of Bin Laden living in a location where the Pakistain Army has a huge presence. The former president’s words are by far the biggest snub to experts who were convinced that Pakistain had a hand in hiding Washington’s most high-profile target in the US-led ’war on terror’. But while it is a real setback to these analysts, it will surely not be the end of the refrain that aims to paint the Saudi murderous Moslem spending long years in this country as a guest. In fact, there could be increasing focus on the incompetency of the Pak administration in allowing an extremely dangerous suspect to stay in the country and operate undisturbed from here for many years. Hence, there is no room for complacency.

There are many more challenges that will require Islamabad to be on its toes. The follow-up questions during the very interview in which Mr Obama admitted to there being no proof of Pakistain’s involvement in the Bin Laden affair did provide new angles. With yet another round of questions about the May 2011 raid and the events surrounding it in the offing, what is required by the authorities and the diplomats representing this country is some deft and cool handling, now that they appear to have a clean chit from the former US president. Most crucially, the country should be able to assert strongly that, just as it didn’t hide the prime ’war on terror’ suspect then, it has nothing to hide now. This is where the unveiling of an earnest discussion on the report compiled by the Abbottabad Commission could come in useful. It is unfortunate that in the tradition of earlier inquiry reports on some of the most significant events in this country’s history, the Abbottabad Commission probe has officially not seen the light of day. It can greatly help in taking Pakistain’s case forward. Let no fear come in the way of a natural desire to know the truth.

Sirens blare repeatedly as at least two rockets launched from Sinai
[IsraelTimes] Two rockets were launched at Israel from the Sinai region of Egypt, the Israeli military said early Tuesday morning as alarms rang out in Israeli communities near the border at least five times throughout the night.

There were no reports of injuries or damage from either rocket, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.

Rocket sirens blared in the Eshkol region near the borders with the Gazoo Strip and the Sinai Peninsula before 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. They went off again an hour later as second rocket was launched.

It was not immediately clear if either missile landed in Israeli territory, the army said.

Sirens sounded a third time at 4:15 a.m., again at 4:50 a.m and again just after 5 a.m. There were no immediate details from the army on possible additional attacks.

occasionally attack Israel, though they have mostly focused on battling Egyptian forces as part of an Islamist insurgency.
Update from The Times of Israel at 8:30a.m. ET:
“The sirens were a false alarm, and no rockets were launched at Israeli territory,” a military spokesperson said.

It was not immediately clear if there had been launches in Sinai that were not directed at Israel, but were instead part of internal Egyptian fighting.

The spokesperson added that the incident was being investigated to determine what caused the malfunction.

Calls for disbanding Iraq's PMU, sign of new plot against Mideast: Iran official
[PRESSTV] Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani says calls for disbanding Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) indicate a new plot aimed at bringing back insecurity to the Middle East.

The fact that a Western country's president echoes calls by the Israeli regime and emphasizes the disbanding of the volunteer pro-government forces, commonly known by their Arabic name as Hashd al-Shaabi, shows a new plot is being hatched to bring insecurity and terrorism back to the region, Shamkhani said in a meeting with the head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council
Led by Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI, formerly the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, or SCIRII, pronounced Scarey)) is not nearly as supreme as it makes out to be. The al-Hakim family business is merely another one of political parties, this one Shiite and with its power base in the south of the country. The Iranian government sponsored the party's creation in 1982 during the Iran-Iraq war after the leading Iraqi Islamist group was weakened by a government crackdown. Designed as an umbrella organization to unite Iraqi Shi'a groups, the party supports Islamic government controlled by holy men. In post-Saddam Iraq ISCI has worked closely with other Shi'a organizations to provide social services and humanitarian aid. Though accused of receiving money and weapons from Iran, ISCI leaders maintain that the party is committed to democracy and peaceful cooperation. The Badr Brigade initially acted as ISCI's armed wing but later to split to form the independent Badr Organization.

and the first deputy speaker of the country's parliament, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, in Tehran on Monday.

He added that wisdom of the Iraqi officials, particularly the politicians, would thwart the enemies' plots to undermine the country's solidarity and national security, saying, "Certainly, such plots will be foiled."

During a visit to Iraq on Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron called for a "gradual demilitarization" and the "dismantlement" of the PMU fighters and all militias in Iraq. His call was widely received with outrage and anger by many in Iraq.

Ahmad al-Assadi, one of the PMU’s leaders, was quoted by AFP as saying that "any such discussion is rejected and we do not accept interference in Iraqi affairs."

, "was not honest" in his confrontation with the Saudi-led military coalition as he was collaborating covertly with Riyadh, describing Saleh’s era as the "worst" in Yemen’s history.

Mohammad al-Bukhaiti, a top figure in the Political Council of Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Monday, hours after Saleh was killed in festivities between his militia and the Houthi fighters on the outskirt of the capital Sana’a.

The Houthi official described the death of Saleh on Monday as a landmark and major turning point in Yemen’s history since a "dangerous plot against the nation" had been foiled by Yemeni forces.

"Today Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
is witnessing a historic phase, maybe one of the most historic phases, one of the most historic phases. The most dangerous conspiracy against these people was toppled," he added.

"We also have the end of the era of Saleh which was the worst era in the history of Yemen. We have entered a new phase. I would add that we have filled the gaps inside the country," he noted.

"Because Saleh wasn't honest in confronting the aggression, he was collaborating with this aggression secretly and not publicly or overtly," he added.

"We were correct when we accused Saleh of conspiring. We were also honest when we said that Saleh isn't participating in confronting the aggression, and using the card of internal sedition in Yemen will have an impact in confronting the aggression," he noted.

"Despite internal sedition, despite all this, the front against the aggression has not been affected... despite many of the fighters being preoccupied by defusing this sedition," he further said.

"This shows that those fighting the aggression are the Yemeni people led by Leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi. And there is a popular will in confronting this aggression and against this aggression. Were it not for a popular will.. a real popular will... we will not have succeeded in persevering against this foreign aggression and amidst the political divisions and sedition," he further stated.
