Palestinian stabs Israeli security guard in Jerusalem terror attack
[NYPost] An Israeli security guard was stabbed by a Palestinian in Jerusalem Sunday in what local authorities are calling a terror attack.

The unidentified officer was knifed in the chest near the entrance to the city’s central bus station, reports Haaretz newspaper. He’s in critical condition, and is currently being treated at a nearby hospital.

The knife-wielding man, a 24-year-old who lives in the West Bank, was apprehended after he was tackled by a bystander, local police said.

Israeli media have identified the accused attacker as Yassin Abu al-Qarah, who wrote "our blood is devoted" to the holy city on Facebook mere days ago.

Other social media users have commented on his page, calling him a hero.

Jerusalem has been on tenterhooks since President Trump's recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday.

Israel says it destroys Hamas tunnel using new techniques
Hope they killed some Hamasniks
[Yahoo] The Israeli military on Sunday said it has destroyed a tunnel built by the Hamas militant group that stretched from the Gaza Strip several hundred meters (yards) into Israeli territory, declaring a breakthrough in its war against underground threats from the Palestinian enclave.

Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a military spokesman, told reporters that Israel had used a new set of "tools" developed since a 2014 war with Hamas in order to destroy the tunnel. He said forces had detected the tunnel months ago and continued to monitor construction efforts by Hamas militants before demolishing it.

Israel has made neutralizing the tunnel threat a top priority since that war, when Hamas militants on several occasions made their way into Israel. Although they did not manage to reach civilian areas, the attacks caught Israel off guard and terrified the local population.

Conricus said a new system involving combat units, military intelligence, logistics and research had been used to destroy the tunnel. The system was first used to detect a tunnel that was destroyed on Oct. 30, but other aspects of the system were used this time around, he said.

"There seems to be a change, a paradigm here in how these terror tunnels will be able to threaten us in the future," he said. "It is by no means behind us, but this will surely force the terrorist organizations to change techniques and to adapt."

Hamas, the armed group that controls Gaza, declined to comment.

Conricus said the tunnel began in the central Gazan town of Khan Younis and stretched for over a kilometer (half a mile) across the border and into Israel. Although not complete, he said the tunnel was "very substantial," equipped with electricity, communications equipment and a ventilation system. It was located about a kilometer from an Israeli community.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the tunnels were an unacceptable threat and that Israel would invest "every resource" to stop them. "I hope that in the coming months the threat of tunnels on the residents surrounding Gaza will become a thing of the past," he said.

The army said the timing of the weekend operation was not connected to a flare-up of deadly violence that followed President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The decision has infuriated the Palestinians, who seek Israel-annexed east Jerusalem as their own capital.

FBI's - Jane Sanders and Burlington College probe still ongoing
[FOX] Burlington ‐ The federal probe into a 2010 land deal orchestrated by former Burlington College president Jane Sanders, wife of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is ongoing, a news report suggests.

Sanders was forced out as president of Burlington College the following year, but she has vehemently denied any impropriety in how she conducted the $10 million purchase of a 33-acre lakefront property.

The college borrowed heavily to finance the transaction, which relied on pledged donations and projections of increased enrollment. Several donors have said their pledges were overstated or misrepresented in the loan agreement, and the school was never able to increase its student count as expected.

Burlington College closed in May 2016 with its leadership citing debt from the land deal as the proximate cause.

Fox News reported early Friday that former Burlington College Board Chair Yves Bradley says the federal investigation is ongoing. "He said he was visited by FBI agents in the last six weeks and was questioned about Sanders’ involvement in the alleged bank fraud," according to the report.

Bradley did not return multiple phone calls and messages from VTDigger Friday morning seeking comment. The real estate agent had previously said his only contact with the FBI or the U.S. Attorney for Vermont came through an attorney for the now defunct college and that he had not personally been interviewed in the probe.

Pence gets lucky: Palestinian president won't meet Pence during visit

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will not meet U.S. Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to the region and there will be no communication between U.S. and Palestinian officials Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki said on Saturday.

Maliki comments were made before an Arab League meeting in Cairo to discuss President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and after Abbas said Washington could no longer be a peace broker.

"We will seek a new mediator from our Arab brothers and the international community, a mediator who can help with reaching a two-state solution," Maliki told reporters in Cairo

US: Palestinian decision to snub Pence ‘unfortunate’

A spokesperson for US Vice President Mike Pence says the Palestinians’ decision to snub the vice president during his Israel visit next week is “unfortunate.”

“It’s unfortunate that the Palestinian Authority is walking away again from an opportunity to discuss the future of the region, but the administration remains undeterred in its efforts to help achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians and our peace team remains hard at work putting together a plan,” says Jarrod Agen, according to Reuters.

Economy
Obama reminds nation to thank Obama for current economic growth
[Michelle Malkin] The most unsurprising brag stretch of the week:

Former President Barack Obama is taking credit for the robust economic growth that is taking place under President Trump.

At a conference of mayors in Chicago, Mr. Obama congratulated himself Tuesday for strong employment numbers in the U.S. this year, saying his climate-change policies have contributed to growth.

"As we took these actions, we saw the U.S. economy grow consistently," Mr. Obama said. "We saw the longest streak of job creation in American history by far, a streak that still continues by the way."

He added wryly, "Thanks, Obama."

Hey, if the economy was doing lousy Obama would have certainly stepped up and taken responsibility, right? RIGHT!?

Humiliation – the only path to peace for the Middle East
h/t Gates of Vienna
[AsiaTimes] For perhaps a quarter of the world’s population, President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem on December 6 was humiliating. Just for that reason it makes Middle East peace more probable. More than President Jimmy Carter, who brokered the Israeli-Egyptian peace deal of 1979, President Trump is likely to be remembered as the American president who contributed most to peace.

Wars end not when the loser is defeated, but rather when the loser is humiliated. Throughout history, as I argued in a 2016 survey of ancient and modern wars, losers have fought on until they lack the manpower to fill their depleted ranks. Typically that occurs after 30% of military-age men are dead, as in France during the Napoleonic Wars, the South in the American Civil War, or Germany in the Second World War. The losing side will not abandon hostilities until all those who want to fight to the death have had the opportunity to do so ‐ unless it is humiliated before the physical exhaustion of its resources has run its course.

That is why the use of atomic weapons against Japan well may have been an act of mercy. The American fire-bombing campaign had already wrecked most of Japan’s cities and killed far more civilians than perished at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan might have sustained far more damage in a conventional resolution through bombing and an eventual invasion. Atomic weapons humiliated the Japanese by displaying the incomparable superiority of Western technology and the pointlessness of further resistance.

There are some defeats whose memory is too painful to bear. As an executive of Bank of America, I spent considerable time at its Charlotte headquarters. My Carolina colleagues needed only a Bourbon or two to lapse into obsessive rehearsals of Civil War battles which, by rights, they should have won. They sounded goofy, but that’s what happens when you sacrifice nearly a third of your young men.
IMO, he uses the wrong terminology: "Peace in ME", oh really - look at Iraq, Syria, Yemen, etc.... Moreover, there won't be peace in ME until Arabs stop being a tribal society - and I'm not sure they can. However, IMO, Trump's act is an important step on the way to the recognition of the fact that there is no such thing as "Palestinian People" - it's just a fiction promulgated by Jew Haters of Europe and Human haters of Dar.

#3  This is exactly what is wrong with the UN. In the past a war had a winner and a loser. Now we stop the conflict before there is actual defeat so the the loser can attack and attack and attack and get away with it. Kashmir, Palestine, and the Korean border were problems when the UN was created and they are problems now.

Liberalism and The Wrath of The Privileged Whites
h/t Instapundit
[FirstThings] Each of our parties is acting crazy, thanks to its own elites. The Republicans are acting crazy thanks to the narcissism and entitlement of the right-leaning business and professional classes. The Democrats are acting crazy thanks to racial politics‐specifically, the angry racial politics of upper-middle-class white liberals.

One irony of recent American politics is that the exodus of wage-earning whites from the Democratic party has tended to make the rump of white Democratic voters more affluent, better educated, and more doctrinaire leftist. According to Pew, about 35 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaners are white "solid liberals."

Solid liberals are left-of-center on both economic and social issues, and they are pessimistic about American society. One presumes that they are pessimistic about other people in American society. The solid liberals are also the best educated and most affluent segment of the Democratic party’s factions.

The weakness of solid liberals is that they are electorally nothing, absent alliances with less affluent, less ideologically rigid, and less secular groups. This creates all kinds of complications. The largely white and affluent solid liberals are notionally egalitarian and opposed to white privilege, but they include many of the most privileged whites in America. How can they participate in a coalition that is largely poorer, less educated, and darker-skinned than they are, while maintaining their comfortable position (both economically and socially)?

Trump administration wants to move government offices out of Washington
h/t Instapundit
[LATimes] Amid the talk of draining swamps, restoring political might to blue-collar America and turning off the spigot of taxpayer cash that showers Washington, a familiar battle cry is ricocheting through this city: Move the bureaucrats out.

It has the ring of a Trumpian fantasy. Dislodge arms of the federal government from Washington and reattach them in faraway places, spreading the wealth generated by these well-paid agency workforces and forcing senior bureaucrats to face the people they affect.

But the idea has established populist roots that spread across party lines, and they are reemerging at this unique political moment.

The swaggering Interior secretary from Montana is putting the finishing touches on his plan to move the headquarters of three large public lands agencies to the West. The Stanford economist representing Silicon Valley in Congress sees opportunity to strategically seed regions of the country with pieces of the federal bureaucracy that can benefit them ‐ and that they can benefit. The unlikely prospect of locating the Department of Transportation in Los Angeles is dangled by Republicans eager to show this crusade has bipartisan cred.

I have been saying for years that there is no reason to have all of the government in Washington anymore, and it's good to see that the idea might be gaining traction. Make the government live with the people they work for - disrupt and fracture the bureacracy, and then do the same for Congress.

#11  If you think about it, with today's technology of teleconferencing and advanced telephones, there is no real reason to even have Congress meet in one place. Everyone could meet via teleconference while staying in their home state/district. This would have the advantage of making the representatives more accessible to their constituents. In addition, a single nuke would not wipe out the entire government.

The main disadvantage would be that the lobbyists would have to set up 535 separate offices in order to bribe visit the congress critters.

#19  Corruption will always be there. Distributing the FedGov simply makes it harder for the corruption to cooperate and correlate with each other and the legislative & judicial branches.

Be sure to have a thorough audit of each and every office moved out, giving anyone that does not wish to make the move an opportunity to resign or retire with not charges against them in any ensuing audit.

Palestinian who vandalized Amsterdam kosher eatery says it’s not about Jerusalem
9 December
[IsraelTimes] Police sources told daily Het Parool Friday that during questioning the unnamed immigrant did not mention the US declaration. He also denied having any anti-Semitic sentiments, saying he vandalized the kosher HaCarmel restaurant, which is owned by Dutch Jews, to protest “the miserable reality in Palestine.”

The Palestinian is suspected of vandalism, which he admitted to in his investigation. Prosecutors did not say yet whether they will recommend prosecuting him and if so, whether they will indict him for a hate crime.
But in the meantime he has been released until his court date on December 20. This follows the original incident a few days ago.

‘Teen’ asylum seeker on trial for Freiburg murder is 33, says father
8 December
[TheLocal.de] Hussein K.

is currently on trial over the rape and murder of a 19-year-old student. He told migration authorities he was 17 and that his father was killed in Afghanistan. But now his father, alive and well in Iran, has told the court his son is 33.

Prosecutors were able to track down Hussein K.’s father when they came across a contact on his mobile phone. The defendant told them that they could contact his mother on the number. But when an interpreter called the number in the presence of two judges, the person who picked up was his father.

The older man read out details from his son’s birth certificate which state that he was born on January 29th 1984, presiding judge Kathrin Schenk said in the district court in Freiburg on Friday.

How clerics are using an ancient privilege to fight the German state on refugees
5 December
[TheLocal.de] Authorities in Bavaria have started to act against the church when it shields people the state wants to deport. But clerics say they are unbending in their determination to resist - and claim the fight is only making them stronger.

According to The German Ecumenical Committee on Church Asylum (BAG) - a network of Protestant, Catholic and Free churches - church asylum today exists as a temporary form of protection for people without a legal residence status, who are at risk of life and limb if they return to their home country. There are currently an estimated 531 people (including 127 children) receiving church asylum across Germany, all of which are noted with the authorities.

While church asylum exists today in a grey zone - recognised in custom but not embedded in law - it has, until recently, been tolerated by the state, and was recognised in a 2015 agreement between Germany’s churches and the Federal Office for Refugees and Migration (BAMF).

Switzerland launches anti-terror action plan
5 December
[TheLocal.ch] Justice minister Simonetta Sommaruga on Monday presented to the press a new Swiss-wide action plan to fight against radicalization and violent extremism. The plan, developed in consultation with the cantons and communes over the course of a year, contains 26 concrete measures to fight extremism, bringing some measures already in place under one single action plan, the government said in a statement. Five million francs will be invested over five years to support cantonal or communal projects that meet the plan’s aims.

“We must not wait until terrorism hits to take action,” Sommaruga said at a press conference reported by Swiss media.

St Gallen approves conditional ban on face coverings
29 November
The cantonal parliament of St Gallen on Tuesday voted in favour of introducing a ban on covering the face in public, under certain conditions. The new rule bans anyone from covering their face in public if they present a security risk or threaten social or religious peace, a condition that will be evaluated on a case by case basis. That could include women wearing the burqa and people covering their faces during demonstrations or protests or for criminal intent.

In April the St Gallen government said it was against a complete ban on the burqa, feeling there was no public interest in doing so since the only women in the canton wearing the garment were tourists.

While the Latakia Governorate is part of the de-escalation zone agreement, the jihadist groups in the region have not accepted nor acknowledge the ongoing ceasefires.

In preparation for this offensive, the Syrian Army and National Defense Forces have been building up their defenses in the province, as they look to foil any jihadist attack.

Britain
Somali Refugee Jailed For 9 Years For ‘Animalistic’ Rape Bid On 22-Year-Old Student
[RADIOSHABELLE] A court in UK has handed a Somali refugee nine years in prison after he tried to rape a 22-year-old student.

During a hearing at Isleworth Crown Court, Recorder Sallie Bennett-Jenkins referred to Abdourahman Amadeo’s behaviour as "animalistic" and said: "You tried to rape a woman you barely knew. The fact you sought to have sex with her beggars’ belief and can only be described as animalistic."

"Your thoughts are obvious through your words. You took your own selfish and animalistic sexual satisfaction from her," she added.

The court documents revealed that Amadeo had attempted the rape at his Hounslow home in London in December 2015 when he used to work at Heathrow Airport’s Caffè Nero. During the hearing, the jury heard that the victim and one of her female friends had partied at a club before they took a lift from one of the 24-year-old’s pals thinking he was taking them to their home.

Instead, the man took them to Amadeo’s address at around 4.30am in the morning, where he attempted to rape her. He also shouted "Get this h** out of my bed" after trying to sexually assault her, the Daily Mail reported.

Bennett-Jenkins QC told the court: "It was an attempted rape committed in the most callous of circumstances. She was enjoying an evening out with friends. She did consume alcohol and there is no criticism of her in this respect.

"We have CCTV footage and we can see she was extremely vulnerable, she was falling over, and she could barely stand and fell, cutting her legs, on the way to your home. There was a specific targeting here of a vulnerable victim."

The recorder added that due to high consumption of alcohol, the young woman was not able to control herself and she either fell asleep or passed into unconsciousness in the accused’s room.

"She is spared the recollection of what you did to her, without her consent, yet this is the thing that haunts her. You took that chance to prey upon this young woman who was obviously unable to give consent to any sexual conduct," Bennett-Jenkins said.

Local media reports stated that the victim had reported the attack to police and had also taken anti-HIV drugs after the incident. The prosecution of Amadeo was largely based on the victim’s friend’s evidence, although she had been removed from the bedroom that night on the accused’s orders.

Born in Somalia, Amadeo and his parents fled to Italia as refugees. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
after getting citizenship, he moved to the UK.

The jury convicted him unanimously for the attempted rape of the young woman and also ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Home Front: WoT
US Lawmaker Presses Pentagon On Reports Of Civilian Massacre In Somalia
[RADIOSHABELLE] A member of the US Congress has urged the Defence Department to launch a new investigation into reports of a civilian massacre carried out in Somalia by US Special Forces.

Congressman Ted Lieu pressed a senior Defence Department official to review recent media reports that the US troops had rubbed out 10 unarmed Somalis on a farm in the town of Bariire in August.

David Trachtenberg, acting under-secretary of defence for policy, responded that he would relay to his department the congressman’s call for a new investigation.

Civilian Casualties
Mr Trachtenberg also pointed out that the US Africa Command (Africom) had already investigated the operation and found that "the only casualties suffered were of armed combatants who fired on US Special Forces."

"We in the Department of Defence take any accusation of civilian casualties very seriously and we work to avoid them at all cost," Mr Trachtenberg said.

The exchange took place at a House of Representatives hearing in Washington on US "Counterterrorism Efforts in Africa."

Congressman Lieu, a Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Democrat, had called attention to a pair of news stories reporting that the Special Forces’ ground attack in Bariire was based on intelligence from local rivals of those killed on the farm.

The US raid, carried out in conjunction with Somali government troops, was also reportedly conducted against the advice of Ugandan Brig Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the commander of the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
military contingent in that region of Somalia.

In stories published on November 29 and December 6, news hound Christina Goldbaum relied on the accounts of several unnamed Somali National Army members and local clan elders. The reports appeared in the Daily Beast, a New York-based online news publication.

Africa North
Egypt demands US help ‐ as long as it is on our terms
[ARABNEWS] What Egyptians want from the US is a seemingly endless list of very complicated demands that may conflict with one another if truly addressed. Egyptians wonder why America, as a global superpower and the largest economy on earth, does not offer its full-fledged support to our country ‐ especially after the inauguration of President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, whom we, among a few other countries, hoped would win the presidency.

Egyptians want the US administration to help resolve Egypt’s economic challenges by investing a tiny percentage of its national budget in our economy, along with increasing economic aid substantially. In addition, we want the US to help us to settle our regional disputes by imposing our government’s political viewpoint on the nations with whom we are in conflict. While Egyptians are busy adding to their demands, we have not bothered to find reasonable justifications as to how the US would benefit by acceding.

Egyptians view successful foreign relations as "friendships with one-way benefits" (in our favor, obviously). We believe that other nations should be committed to helping us either because we once supported them a few decades ago or because, by strengthening the Egyptian state, they too will benefit. While we want the US and other nations to act on our demands, the Egyptian government believes foreign nations should not interfere in our domestic affairs; even the offer of advice is viewed as an attack on our national illusory sovereignty.

The majority of our citizens tend to adhere to our inherited thinking pattern, including people who have permanently immigrated to other nations (but refrained from truly absorbing the cultures of their adopted homelands). Large numbers of well-educated Egyptians, some of whom have been living in the US for years, endorse this political proposition. Not making room for understanding other nations’ political dynamics has trapped us into over-anticipating their willingness to support us.

The Egyptian government and its cronies had imagined that, once Trump came to power, the growing wish list that had been stuck away in a drawer for years would be transformed into purchase orders paid for by the new American administration. They believed that President Trump would immediately instruct his officials to respond positively to our demands. This belief was demonstrated by the dispatch of various semi-governmental delegations to meet with US decision-makers; a move that, unknown to us, ended up harming our position further.

Our incomplete understanding of the political dynamics of many foreign nations, including the US, has widened and intensified our regional and international quarrels. Why should any nation work on increasing its enemies by adopting Egypt’s political agenda? Granting Egypt’s political and economic demands, which include pressuring nations with whom we are in conflict, will place other nations in impartial positions ‐ even if our state’s demands are justified.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, there was another kaboom...
the US and other nations often suggest alternative approaches to our problems, and we tend either to overlook their gestures or to neglect their advice, believing that our tactics will serve us better. Furthermore, most foreign countries still prefer to discuss their political disputes with Egypt behind closed doors; thus, our citizens are left in the dark, with the result that we don’t know our friends from our foes.

As our wishes and demands accumulate, the Egyptian state persistently hints to its citizens of the need for extreme caution when dealing with foreign nations. Thus, even if the US administration was to decide to comply with the entirety of Egypt’s requests, Egyptians would still question the political motives behind the Americans’ move. Within the current conspiracy theory framework, the US, and other nations, will always be viewed as the beneficiaries of their relationship with Egypt, regardless of their genuine support efforts or financial aid.

Losses mount for both sides in Donetsk and Lugansk
For a map, click here. You can enlarge the map, if you open it separately.

Rebel and Ukrainian forces both claim four dead each as losses mount and ongoing shelling and probes continue, according to Russian language news reports.

According to a news release by the rebel Donetsk ministry of defense, four rebel soldiers were killed in the past week. The news release failed to note where the soldiers were killed, but it is known that most of the fighting in Donetsk is taking place as Dokuchaevsk, Avdievka, near Gorlovka and near the Svetodarsk arc in Lugansk.

Last week rebel media claimed that losses from the Ukrainian occupation of Gladosovo and Travenoye were so heavy that Ukrainian forces were forced to withdraw. At first, informal accounts by militiamen for the rebels, posted at retired reserve FSB Colonel Igor Girkin's VKontackte page, indicated that rebel forces had ringed the outskirts of Gladodovo and Travenoye with snipers, causing as many as ten dead in a 24 hour period.

Parts of the Ukrainian 54th Motorized Rifle brigade and the volunteer 24th "Aydar" battalion, along with a small artillery unit now occupied Gladosovo.

Official rebel media later claimed the Ukrainian forces had not withdrawn, but instead had suffered losses due to friendly fire.

A week later, Ukrainian forces have withdrawn some forces it is reported, with one tactical commander refusing to move due to intense rebel fire.

According to a post on the website of the Russian sponsored Russkaya Vesna, in the previous 24 hours, Ukrainian losses have increased to 17 dead and nine wounded. It is unclear in the reports if the counts are cumulative.

The Ukrainian Russian language news outlet said that rebel forces continue to pound Ukrainian positions at Travnevoy, Vodanoye, which is in southern Donetsk, and at Avdievka near Donetsk city, using a variety of heavy weapons including 120mm mortars.

Rebel media now claim that the takeover of Gladosovo is part of the Ukrainian general staff's plan to reinforce their positions to prepare for another mini offensive.

Israeli decision not to limit access to Jerusalem prayers helped reduce protests
[IsraelTimes] In times of tension, Israel often bans younger Paleostinian males from prayers at Temple Mount. On Friday, it showed that, despite Trump's speech, nothing had changed on the ground.

Paleostinian protesters came out in the tens of thousands night after night for two weeks in July when Israel placed metal detectors at entrances to the al-Aqsa Mosque after three Arab Israelis killed two coppers there with weapons they had smuggled into the sacred Temple Mount compound.

In contrast, in response to US President Donald Trump

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: US Jerusalem Move Raises Naturalization Concern in Lebanon
[AnNahar] The repercussions of the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital does not only lead to wars and threatens regional and international peace, but also raises fears in Leb of the naturalization of Paleostinian refugees in the tiny Mediterranean country, al-Joumhouria daily reported Saturday.
I don’t see how naturalization of the Paleostinian refugees follows from recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capitol, but I agree that giving the residents of Ein al-Hilweh full citizenship will have the kind of interesting repercussions that are earnt by sticking with the permanent refugee option for 69 years.
A recommendation issued by the Parliament during its Friday meeting indicates the danger inherent in the American decision on the Jerusalem and its Arab and Islamic, Christian identity that leads to wars and threatens regional and international peace, said the daily.

The resolution not only threatens Jerusalem, but also threatens Leb in a fundamental way and raises fears of permanent naturalization of Paleostinian refugees on its land, which endangers the country's composition and unity, it added.

Lebanese authorities at state levels have repeatedly warned against the measure considering it an"existential threat."

Sources close to the presidency told the daily, reminding of President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
...

's firm position in that regard, saying "the president has stressed his firm determination to thwart any attempt aiming to impose naturalization of Paleostinians in this country."

The daily also quoted sources to Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
saying: "Trump's decision on Jerusalem is a preliminary attempt for naturalization of Paleostinians," stressing "we resisted the Israeli occupation, we will similarly resist settlement and prevent it with all our strength and means."

Security Council announced on Friday that all measures imposed in the Oil-for-Food program in Iraq had been fully implemented.

"The Security Council removed Iraq from Chapter VII of Oil and Food Program. Hence, Iraq restored its international position and normal status," said Ahmed Mahjoob, spokesperson of the Iraqi Interior Ministry.

A statement by the UN Security Council read, among other things, "that the remaining $14,283,565 in the administrative escrow account had been transferred to Iraq."

In August 1990, comprehensive sanctions were imposed on Iraq following the country’s invasion of Kuwait. A UN proposal was suggested for Iraq to sell limited amounts of oil in order to support the needs of its people. However the proposal was declined by the Iraqi government.

Chapter VII of the UN Charter established the Oil-for-Food program in April 1995 which was implemented in December 1996.

The program was established to "provide Iraq with another opportunity to sell oil to finance the purchase of humanitarian goods, and various mandated United Nations activities concerning Iraq," according to the UN Security Council.

Iraq was initially able to sell $2 billion of oil every six months, with two-thirds of the monies received to be used to meet humanitarian needs within the country. The amount was raised in 1998 to $5.6 billion every six months, still with two-thirds of the money to be used for humanitarian issues.

As of May 2003 approximately $28 billion worth of equipment and supplies had been used for humanitarian purposes within Iraq through the Oil-for-Food program, including $1.6 billion in oil-related equipment and another $10 billion went towards production and delivery pipelines.

In view of warnings received from the US and UK governments regarding the prospect of war, the program ended and UN personnel were evacuated from Iraq on March 18, 2003.

The Iraqi war began the following day with the bombing of Baghdad.

Amy Tachco, US representative of the UN Security Council praised Iraq’s complete implementation of measures imposed under the Oil-for-Food program.

Stating the country still faced many challenges, she "looked forward to close cooperation internationally and bilaterally in support of Iraq as a federal, democratic and prosperous country."

Israel wont attack Lebanon after 2006 War: Aoun
That does not mean they won’t attack Hizb’allah, whose territory is practically independent of the rest of the country.
[ALMASDARNEWS] In an interview in Beirut on Saturday, Lebanese President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
...

dismissed the possibility of an Israeli assault on Leb.

"After the July 2006 war Israel will no longer attack Leb", the Lebanese president argued.

Michel Aoun referred to the war which erupted in 2006 between Israel and Lebanese paramilitary group Hezbollah and resulted in many casualties, citing this as a reason why Leb would not "be able to penetrate the Lebanese fronts".

In November this year it was reported that Israeli troops were carrying out exercises in the north of Leb. The move added fuel to the complex situation unfolding in the Middle East, and led many to conclude that a conflict with Hezbollah was looking increasingly likely.

President Michel Aoun went on to answer the question concerning the settlement of the political crisis, which recently broke out in Leb. Michel Aoun expressed his confidence over the crisis’ complete resolution, saying that "there are no disagreements between the Lebanese about [it]". "I don’t think that those who created this crisis will repeat it again," added Aoun.

The Lebanese political crisis was stirred by the unexpected announcement of resignation made by Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.

. Later, after having visited La Belle France and talked with Michel Aoun, Saad Hariri reversed his decision and stayed in office.

Top SDF tribal commander denies defecting to Syrian Army in Deir Ezzor
[ALMASDARNEWS] The leader of the al-Bakara Tribe that is loyal to the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) appeared on a video, Saturday, denying he defected to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Pro-government pages alleged on Friday that the al-Bakara tribal commander, Yasser al-Dayheh, defected to the Syrian Army after reaching the front-lines of Hashd al-Sha’abi (Iraqi paramilitary) along the Iraqi border.

Al-Masdar was told by a military source in Damascus that these claims were just rumors and that the Syrian Army was not informed of this alleged defection.

Firebombs hurled at synagogue in Sweden after protest march over Jerusalem
The Moslem colonists and their fellow travellers care more about this than the Palestinians do.
[IsraelTimes] At rallies across Europe, participants chant about shooting Jews, an ancient massacre of Jews and freedom for Paleostinian terrorists.

More than a dozen men hurled Molotov cocktails at a synagogue in Gothenburg in southern Sweden hours after locals marched in the city against the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

No one was injured in the attack Saturday night, which ended without injury, the online edition of the Expressen daily reported.

This Week in Books, December 10, 2017
Continuing the gift book theme:

Poor Richard's Almanack
Benjamin Franklin
Peter Pauper Press, 1981

Link is to Amazon

This book is the essential collection of Mr. Franklin's famous sayings. In fact, only the wisdoms are included, which makes this seventy seven page book a classic coffee table or water closet item. Something I found myself enjoying is how language was used in Mr. Franklin's time. A few examples:

Thou hadst better eat salt with the philosophers of Greece, than sugar with the courtiers of Italy.

Mad Kings and mad Bulls are not to be held by treaties and packthread.

Fools need Advice most, but only wise Men are the better for it.

People who are wrapped up in themselves make small packages.

A fun read, and can be picked up and put down at will.

A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens
illustrated by Stephen Vossos

Link goes to Mr. Vossos’ site

I am sure everyone is familiar with A Christmas Carol is one form or another. This medium really stood out for me. I have always scoffed at the term 'graphic novel'; no, that is a comic book. This, however, has changed my mind. Mr. Vossos does a fantastic pen and ink depiction of the classic story, and in a very emotional way. Having dabbled in every aspect it takes to put something like this together, I am impressed and stunned at the quality of work. The pictures are crisp, the paper is quality, and the binding just fantastic. I gave some as gifts, donated a copy to the library. Highly recommended.

Scroll down at the Link, and you will come across Mr. Vossos' recent project:

The Pilgrim's Progress
John Bunyan

Looking at the samples, this is a no-brainer. Thing is, Mr. Vossos, as I understand, is running a small business and is located in Canada, so time is running out for either of these books to be a present. Also, Mr. Vossos has a facebook page: Boo Ink.

This Week in Emergency Preparedness

There are plenty of videos out there of 'Dry Christmas Tree Catches Fire'. I swear, some of those trees must be kiln dried and sprayed with some sort of accelerant. Not that trees don't go up like crazy, and the dramatic footage does get the point across, its just, well, here is the demonstration video I'd recommend (not going to link, don't want to eat bandwidth):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np2ghHdLdNI

Couple things I noticed right off the bat. First, how smoky it gets. Second, that there is no carpet/flooring which would add to the smoke. Remember, it is the smoke which is the killer. The video also does a decent job showing a smoke-filled room and the thermal layering which occurs. Note, that is not a totally enclosed room like a house would have, so the smoke does not fill as quickly as a real room would.

Keep your tree watered. Do not forget that artificial trees can catch fire, too, and are very nasty if they do on account of the chemical soup they will put out. Keep those smoke detector batteries in, even if the chef burns water*.

*This can actually happen. I might tell one day why I know this.

For those with cats, children, and spirited adults... mind the candles. And with that, I set down my Johnny Depp Mother Hen Hat, grab a glass, and head to the Parlay Room.

#2  Great list. I might add the abridged edition of Franklin's biography. His recounting of where the term "strong beer" come from is a great recounting of moronic hilarity. The man was stunning in his ability to reflect, describe and publicize common sense obvious.

Arabia
Oman moves closer to a post-oil economy
[Al Jazeera] The future of Oman, situated along a vast stretch of coastline reaching the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is linked to the sea - and the country's ability to leverage this connection will be key to its economic development in the years ahead.

2018 marks the middle of a five-year diversification strategy that builds on Oman's long-term vision to shift from an oil-based economy towards other critical sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, tourism, fisheries and mining.

In an era of low oil prices, Oman - which has the lowest GDP per capita among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and an unemployment rate surpassing 17 percent - wants to refashion itself as a hub for shipping and industry. Facilities such as the special economic zone at Duqm, established in 2011 with a goal of becoming a commercial powerhouse, will play a significant role in this transition.

But how realistic is Oman's diversification plan, and what obstacles could the Gulf nation face in the years ahead?

"We are aware that we live in a very critical area of the Middle East ... [Oman] is like an island in a sea with a lot of challenges happening," Talal Sulaiman al-Rahbi, the deputy secretary-general of Oman's Supreme Council for Planning and the architect of the country's economic diversification plan, told Al Jazeera.

"We are looking first into reducing the dependence on oil for the national budget, and also to diversify the economy and start other clusters of industries ... in addition, increasing job opportunities in the private sector, away from government jobs. [These] are being looked at as key things to achieve."

Hariri vows to block Iraqi fighters from attacking Israel
[ALMASDARNEWS] Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has reacted to the arrival of the leader of an Iraqi paramilitary group accompanied by Hezbollah fighters on the country’s border with Israel.

According to a statement of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, the border visit by an official of the Iraqi paramilitary group Asaib Ahl al-Haq has violated the country’s law, forcing him to instruct security chiefs to "prevent any person from carrying out activities of a military nature on the country’s territory and to prevent any illegal actions."

The statement was made after Qais al-Khazali, the leader of the Iraqi paramilitary group, accompanied by Hezbollah fighters, had visited Leb’s border with Israel, declaring his readiness "to stand together with the Lebanese people and the Paleostinian cause," according to a video circulating on social media.

"We are now on the border separating southern Leb with occupied Paleostine with our brothers in Hezbollah, and announce our full preparedness to stand united ... against the Israeli occupier," Khazali says in a video address.

Al-Khazali has visited the entire border with "occupied Paleostine," as reported by Rooters news agency. The footage shows an unidentified commander gesturing towards military outposts in northern Israel and telling Khazali that they were targeted by Hezbollah missiles in previous fights between the group and Israel.

Taxpayers Paid $220K to Settle Case Involving Rep. Alcee Hastings
[ROLLCALL] The Treasury Department paid $220,000 in a previously undisclosed agreement to settle a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment that involved Florida Democrat Alcee L. Hastings, according to documents obtained by Roll Call.

Winsome Packer, a former staff member of a congressional commission that promotes international human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
, said in documents that the congressman touched her, made unwanted sexual advances, and threatened her job. At the time, Hastings was the chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, where Packer worked.

Hastings has called Packer’s charges "ludicrous" and in documents said he never sexually harassed her.

"Until this evening, I had not seen the settlement agreement between the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
(CSCE) and Ms. Packer," the congressman said in a statement Friday night. "This matter was handled solely by the Senate Chief Counsel for Employment. At no time was I consulted, nor did I know until after the fact that such a settlement was made."

Hastings said that the lawsuit that Packer filed against him and an investigation by the House Ethics Committee
...think of a nudibranch pretending to be a vertebrate...
were ultimately dismissed.

"I am outraged that any taxpayer dollars were needlessly paid to Ms. Packer," he said.

The 2014 payment to settle the case involving Hastings was not apparently included in a breakdown of payouts to settle discrimination complaints against House politicians from the past five years released last month by the Office of Compliance, which approves the payouts. That total included only one payment to resolve a sexual harassment claim ‐ $84,000 paid to settle a complaint against Texas GOP Rep. Blake Farenthold.

U.S. Treasury Designates Jamaica-Based Islamic State Recruiter as Terrorist
Yet another thing that seems to have required the ascent of Donald Trump to the presidency in order to be done.
[Breitbart] U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration has added a prominent jihadi ideologue based in Jamaica to the American government’s list of specially designated global terrorists for recruiting prospective militants for the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) in Iraq and Syria.

They deported him to Jamaica four years later. After he spent 2009 touring Africa, Kenya deported him back to Jamaica. In between and since, he apparently has been actively guiding eager young minds toward the jihadi life on line.

Africa North
Libya and Italy to set up operations room to tackle migrant smuggling
[AlAhram] Libya's U.N.-backed government agreed with Italia on Saturday to establish a joint operations room for tackling migrant smugglers and traffickers as part of efforts to curb migrant flows towards Europe, according to a statement.

Libya is the main gateway for migrants colonists trying to cross to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
by sea, though numbers have dropped sharply since July as Libyan factions and authorities have begun to block departures under Italian pressure. More than 600,000 have made the journey over the past four years.

The agreement to set up the operations room was announced after a meeting in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
between the head of the U.N.-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Seraj, Libyan Interior Minister Aref Khodja, and his Italian counterpart Marco Minniti.

A statement from Seraj's office said the centre would consist of "representatives from the coastguard, the illegal migration department, the Libyan attorney general and the intelligence services, along with their Italian counterparts."

No details were given on the location of the centre and how it would operate. In the past, migrant smugglers have worked with impunity in western Libya, where the GNA has little authority over gangs that have real power on the ground.

The Italian navy already has a presence in Tripoli port, providing "technical" assistance to Libya's coastguard, according to Italian and Libyan officials.

The coastguard, which is receiving funding and training from the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, has become more assertive in recent months in intercepting migrants colonists and bringing them back to Libya.

Activists have criticised the policy, since migrants colonists often face extreme hardship and abuse in Libya, including forced labour. Moslem colonists Migrants who are caught trying to cross to Italia are put in severely overcrowded detention centres authorised by the interior ministry.

The GNA has said it is investigating reports of migrants colonists being auctioned as slaves in Libya, after CNN broadcast footage appearing to show such auctions.

According to Saturday's statement, Seraj told Minniti that "despite the successes achieved in the migration file, the number of illegal immigrants colonists outside shelters remains large and we need more cooperation, especially in securing the borders of southern Libya through which these migrants colonists flow".

Coptic pope cancels Pence meeting over Jerusalem
Everybody seems to be cancelling their meetings with our vice president — to show their anger, donchaknow. He’ll have to repeat the trip in a week or three, when they’ve all stopped posturing.
[Al Jazeera] The leader of Egypt's Coptic Church has cancelled an upcoming meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence, protesting against Washington's move to declare Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The move by Pope Tawadros II on Saturday came a day after Paleostinian leaders also said that Pence, who is scheduled to visit the region later this month, was not welcome in the occupied territories.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
formally recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and said he would start the process of moving its embassy there from Tel Aviv.

The controversial decision sparked anger and protests throughout the occupied Paleostinian territories and a number of Moslem countries. It also drew widespread condemnation from world leaders.

UN envoy warns North Korea ‘miscalculation’ could trigger conflict
[ARABNEWS] A senior UN envoy warned Saturday there was a grave risk of a miscalculation that could trigger conflict with North Korea as he urged Pyongyang to keep channels open after a rare visit to the reclusive state.

Jeffrey Feltman’s four-day trip to the North ‐ the first by such a high-ranking UN diplomat since 2010 ‐ kicked off less than a week after North Korea said it test-fired a new ballistic missile capable of reaching the US.

The United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
said Feltman met North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong-Ho and Vice Foreign Minister Pak Myong-Kuk and they "agreed that the current situation was the most tense and dangerous peace and security issue in the world today."

The statement added: "Noting the urgent need to prevent miscalculations and open channels to reduce the risks of conflict, Mr.Feltman underlined that the international community, alarmed by escalating tensions, is committed to the achievement of a peaceful solution to the situation on the Korean Peninsula."

Feltman, the UN’s under secretary general for political affairs, added "there can only be a diplomatic solution to the situation, achieved through a process of sincere dialogue."

"Time is of the essence."

Earlier, North Korea’s state news agency KCNA said "the US policy of hostility toward the DPRK (North Korea) and its nuclear blackmail are to blame for the current tense situation on the Korean peninsula."

But it added the North had agreed with the UN "to regularize communications through visits at various levels."

The KCNA report did not mention any meetings with leader Kim Jong-Un, who has ramped up his impoverished nation’s missile and nuclear program in recent years in order to achieve Pyongyang’s stated goal of developing a warhead capable of hitting the US mainland.

Aid groups vow to boycott new Myanmar camps for Rohingya returnees
[ARABNEWS] Global aid groups have warned Myanmar they would boycott any new camps for Rohingya returnees to Rakhine state, saying refugees must be allowed to settle in their original homes.

The joint statement, signed by more than a dozen humanitarian organizations including Save the Children and Oxfam, said the groups were "concerned" by recent announcements that Myanmar would begin repatriating Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh in two months.

More than 620,000 of the Moslem minority have fled into Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar district since late August, when the Myanmar army launched a sweeping crackdown on Rohingya rebels in northern Rakhine state.

After inking a repatriation deal with Myanmar in November, Bangladesh said returnees would initially live in temporary shelters in Rakhine state.

That announcement raised fears that the refugees would face a repeat of the situation endured by more than 100,000 Rohingya in central Rakhine, who have been trapped in squalid camps ever since they were displaced by a 2012 outbreak of violence.

"There should be no form of closed camps or camp-like settlements. INGOs (international non-governmental organizations) will not operate in such camps if they are created," aid groups said on Saturday, adding that all returns must be voluntary.

[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS forces operating in northwest Syria have broken through rebel lines and advanced swiftly into the province of Idlib. The event marks the first time in almost four years since the self-declared caliphate has had a presence in the region.

’s enclave in northern Hama province has rapidly expanded in both the direction of Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

Today, ISIS Death Eaters made another powerful push, capturing from Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham the settlements of Huways Ibn Hadib, Qal’at al-Huways, Huways Um al-Jarn and Jabal Huways.

Some sources say that Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham Death Eaters simply fled their positions after ISIS charged them in the area.

By this advance, Islamic State forces have officially entered the province of Idlib, the first time they have held a foothold in the region since withdrawing in early 2014.

India opens fire along LoC only in response to incursion by Pakistan, claims Sushma Swaraj
[DAWN] New Delhi has refused to accept the allegations of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundry (WB) levelled by Islamabad; instead, the India's foreign minister accused Pakistain of incursion along the LoC, DawnNews reported.

The Foreign Office on Saturday confirmed to have received a letter from India's Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, which she reportedly wrote in response to the letter written by Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif.

Asif had last month written to his Indian counterpart about ceasefire violations along the LoC and WB allegedly committed by India.

In his letter, the foreign minister had called for political intervention for de-escalating tensions on the LoC which have resulted in numerous casualties.

His contention was that since the agreed mechanisms of DGMOs’ (director generals of military operations) hotline and border meetings were not working, the situation warranted a political initiative for restoring peace along the LoC and WB.

On Saturday, FO spokesperson Dr Faisal alleged that the Indian side had once again shown a stubborn response.

"India only opens fire in response to the incursion," Swaraj wrote in the letter.

The FO spokesperson clarified that India had been asked several times to allow UNMOGIP to monitor the ceasefire violation allegations but India never allowed the observers to work with full freedom on the Indian side.

Judge Releases 19-Year-Old Charged in Facebook Video Torture of Disabled Chicago Teen
[BREITBART] The first of four reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
suspects accused of beating and torturing a disabled teenager and broadcasting the attack on Facebook has pleaded guilty, but a judge let her off without prison time, a report says.

Brittany Covington, 19, pleaded guilty to a hate crime in court on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The suspect also "pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and intimidation charges. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped additional charges, including kidnapping," the Tribune said.

Despite the guilty plea, Cook County Circuit Judge William Hooks released Covington without jail time. Telling Covington, "Do not mess this up," Judge Hooks imposed 200 hours of community service and banned Covington from using social media and having contact with her co-defendants for four years.

The judge did not assign jail time because, he said, "I’m not sure if I did that you’d be coming out any better."

Hooks insisted that his sentence would give Covington the chance to put her life on a productive path.

Saturday’s protestors in Israel and Palestinian territories down to hundreds on Saturday, 22 arrested
[IsraelTimes] On Saturday, hundreds of Paleostinians took part in violent protests across the West Bank, in a substantial decrease from the thousands that rioted the day before over the decision last week by US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Some 600 Paleostinian demonstrators at 20 flashpoints in the West Bank threw Molotov cocktails and rocks at Israeli troops, and also set tires on fire and rolled them at soldiers, who responded with riot dispersal weapons such as tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets, the army said.

Six Paleostinians were enjugged

in the West Bank, and six were lightly maimed in the festivities, the IDF added.

In East Jerusalem, Israeli police said at least 13 Paleostinians were arrested for throwing stones and other objects at officers during festivities. Police also said that four officers were lightly injured Saturday afternoon during separate festivities in the East Jerusalem Salah Ad Din neighborhood outside of the Old City. The officers were all transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In the Gazoo Strip, approximately 450 Paleostinians gathered and protested at eight locations along the security fence with Israel on Saturday, the army said.

During the violent demonstration, one Paleostinian crossed the fence into Israel. He was arrested by Israeli troops and taken in for questioning, the army said. There as well, demonstrators threw rocks at troops. They also rolled burning tires at the fence itself.

The troops, coming from both the Israel Defense Forces and Border Police, responded mostly with riot dispersal weapons, but also used live rounds against "two of the main instigators, and hits were confirmed," the army said.

In northern Israel, three people were treated for light injuries after Arab protesters in the Wadi Ara area threw stones at an Egged bus traveling on Route 65 near the town of Ar’ara. The driver of the bus and two passengers received medical attention on site. Police said they arrested two people from the town for rioting.

In southern Israel too, some 100 people protested in the Bedouin town of Rahat. There were no reports of violence.
Ynet has photos and video, and adds:
The Red Islamic Thingy reported 171 Paleostinians were maimed Saturday in the West Bank, while 60 were maimed in Gazoo.

Zimbabwe unveils post-Mugabe economic order
[Al Jazeera] Zim-bob-we's government, under newly inaugurated President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has announced "a new economic order" that signals a potentially significant change from the previous era of former President Bob Muggsy Mugabe

Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed her might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
In a bid to revive the southern African nation's battered economy, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa has proposed a series of measures to attract foreign investment, along with tax concessions to local businesses.

But Nelson Chamisa, a leader of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance, the country's largest opposition coalition of seven political parties, has warned that this strategy could be hampered by the joint police-army patrols that began after a military operation was launched on November 15, targeting "criminals" associated with Mugabe.

"The continued occupation of the streets by the army scares away investors. It does not inspire confidence," Chamisa said at a news conference in the capital Harare on Friday.

Former Finance Minister Tendai Biti expressed scepticism that the 4.5 percent growth prediction could be achieved in 2018 and called for more severe cuts to government expenditures in order for the administration to operate within the $5.7bn budget.

Police roadblocks
An internal split within the ruling ZANU-PF sparked a military takeover on November 15 that saw Mugabe step down after 37 years in power. Members of the army and police continue to monitor roadblocks and strategic government sites.

Despite criticism, Chinamasa appeared optimistic as he unveiled a raft of strategies to address corruption and the lack of fiscal discipline that typified the former regime.

Key among the changes to woo investors is a revision of the indigenisation law, a cornerstone of the Mugabe regime. The controversial policy requires 51/49 percent ownership in favour of black Zim-bob-weans as majority shareholders in companies worth more than $500,000; however, from April 2018, indigenisation will be restricted to the diamond and platinum extractive industries.

Simbarashe Mhuriro, the managing director of Oxygen Africa, a renewable energy company partnered with a Swiss enterprise, Meeco Invest AG, welcomed the policy shift.

Hashd militia injured in bombing in Tuz Khurmatu
[Rudaw] ERBIL, Kurdistan Region ‐ Tuz Khurmatu came under bombardment on Saturday, seriously wounding two Hashd al-Shaabi fighters. Separately, festivities have erupted between residents and the Hashd in a nearby village, according to local reports.

Clashes are ongoing between residents of Palkana village and the Hashd al-Shaabi, Rudaw’s war news hound Hunar Ahmed learned from local sources who also informed him of suspected mortar attack in Tuz Khurmatu that maimed two militiamen.

No group has yet grabbed credit for the attack.

Tuz Khurmatu fell to Iraqi forces when they drove the Peshmerga out during their military incursion into the disputed areas, which also include the multi-ethnic city, in mid-October.

Two gangs, one known to be comprised of Kurds, have since been reported in the area.

The Kurdish group calls themselves "the Liberation Army" and their objective is to fight Iraqi forces, especially the mainly Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi, who are accused of committing human rights

violations against Tuz Khurmatu’s Kurdish population.

They are around 200 fighters and include former Peshmerga. They have set up their base east of Tuz Khurmatu.

The second group, whose identities remain unknown, has an estimated 500 members. They had been deployed along the mountain range between Tuz Khurmatu and Kifri, but have reportedly left their positions and moved further south.

who said in a statement that it was a violation of Lebanese law, adding that it happened six days ago. Hariri ordered that al-Khazaali be banned from entering Leb again.

The Jerusalem Post adds:
Due to its combat experience in Syria, Hezbollah has grown significantly in terms of technology and battlefield experience and is considered Israel’s most dangerous enemy.

According to IDF assessments, in addition to a massive arsenal of rockets and missiles, the group is able to mobilize close to 30,000 fighters and has greatly expanded its tunnel system ‐ complete with ventilation, electricity and rocket launchers.

Some 200 villages in south Leb have been turned into military strongholds from where Hezbollah button men are able to watch Israeli soldiers at any time.

In June, the IDF accused the Shi’ite terrorist organization of violating the UN resolution by establishing observation posts since April under the guise of an NGO, "Green Without Borders," near the UN-delineated Blue Line border with Israel, presumably in order to gather intelligence.

But Israel’s accusations were rejected by UN spokeswoman Eri Kaneko, who said that the UN Interim Force in Leb is in contact with the Lebanese military to ensure that there are no violations of the resolution, "to avoid any misunderstandings or tensions that could endanger the cessation of hostilities." While "Green Without Borders" members have planted trees in the area, UNIFIL "has not observed any unauthorized armed persons at the locations or found any basis to report a violation of Resolution 1701," she said, adding that "UNIFIL remains vigilant and continues to monitor the Blue Line."

Niger evacuates 500 of its nationals from Libya
[AlAhram] Niger has flown home more than 500 of its citizens from Libya as part of an urgent repatriation plan which will see up to 4,000 people evacuated, the foreign ministry has said.

The move follows global shock over the atrocities suffered in Libya by African migrants colonists, many of whom are trying to reach Europe, which was brought home by a CNN report showing people being sold as slaves.

Pressure has since grown on individual states and the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
to get them out, with the AU this week pledging to repatriate 20,000 Africans within the next six weeks.

"This evening, 504 of our fellow countrymen who were living in Libya have been brought back home," said Foreign Minister Ibrahim Yacoubou who met them as they arrived at Niamey airport on Wednesday evening.

"There are thousands of others who are still in Libya and we will bring back everyone who wants to leave," he said.

Interior Minister Bazoum Mohammed said buses had been chartered to ferry them back to their villages.

Among those brought back home there was a tangible sense of relief.

"I feel so relieved to have left that hell back there. Even though it was anarchy in Libya, we didn't know that migrants colonists were being sold, although ransom demands are rife," said one of those who landed on Wednesday, who looked exhausted and did not give his name.

Some 4,000 Niger nationals have already signed up to be brought home, the foreign ministry said, saying they would be brought back in a "rolling airlift".

It is not the first time that Niamey has repatriated its nationals stranded in neighbouring Libya.

Since the Qadaffy regime collapsed in 2011, Libya has fallen under the control of a network of gangs and militias; the violence and anarchy contributing to the push by many migrants colonists, some of whom have been there for years, to try and make the perilous sea crossing to Europe.

Over the past six years, around 250,000 people have returned home to Niger, fleeing the violence in Libya.

At the end of November, Niger's President Mahamadou Issoufou called on the International Criminal Court to take up the case of African migrants colonists being sold as slaves in Libya.

Agadez, the main city in central Niger, has become a revolving door for economic migrants colonists seeking to reach Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
via Libya, winning notoriety as Africa's people-smuggling capital.

Despite a government crackdown and increased security checks at the borders, aided by the EU, there is still a steady flow of migrants colonists and traffickers passing through Niger.

How Trump Is Going After Hezbollah in America’s Backyard
[Politico] The pro-Iranian militant group is up to no good in Latin America—and U.S. officials are pushing back.
Long, detailed, and with lots of links, this report goes back to the 1994 bombing of the Jewish center in Buenos Aires and connects it to current inter-agency activities of which the author clearly approves. Two stories seen at Rantburg this year, the arrest this past June of two naturalized Hizb’allah operatives, and the announcement in October of large rewards for information leading to the arrest of two Hizb’allah leaders, are placed in context.

Deputies: Friend didn’t pull trigger, still faces murder charge
[TAMPABAY] A 23-year-old man faces a charge of felony murder in connection with a drug deal that left his friend dead, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Daundrea Lamar Butler is not accused of taking part in the killing, however. He was tossed in the slammer

under a statute that allows authorities to levy a murder charge if that person takes part in a crime that results in murder.

Deputies said Butler drove his friend, Ecru Richardson, 21, to the Oaks Apartments at 13237 Stone Fountain Drive around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. There, Richardson got out of the car to conduct a drug deal, during which he was shot by an unidentified individual.

Richardson ran back to the vehicle where Butler was waiting for him. Butler, realizing Richardson had been shot, drove his friend to the hospital, deputies said. Deputies received two calls about the shooting: one reported hearing the shots fired and the other came from Butler. At first, deputies said, Butler denied knowing about the drug deal. Later deputies said they determined Butler was aware of it.

Paks to launch astronauts in two years: air chief
[DAWN] Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman on Thursday warned that the violators of Pakistain's airspace will not be spared ‐ be it an enemy aircraft or a US drone.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Air Tech Conference and Techno Show in Islamabad, the air chief said: "We will soon launch a new satellite [...] the country will be able to send astronauts into space within next two years."

We are also working on unmanned drones and a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) will be manufactured in next 18 months, he told the audiences.

Aman said that when the United States drones had violated the Pak airspace, the air force had told the US authorities that their drones would be knocked down if they entered the country's airspace again.
Nothing gets past our Russian supplied Spoon Rest, Tall King and Flat Face radars, NOTHING !
"We had also knocked down an Iranian drone in Pak territory," he said, adding that any flying object tracked on radar while violating the national borders, will not be able to go back.

Aman, however, asserted that a war with the US would not be in the favour of the country.

Talking about the regional situation, he said the country cannot change its neighbours. "India, China, Afghanistan, and Iran are our neighbours and will remain."

What was done in Iraq and Lybia in the name of democracy is open to all to ponder upon, he said and remarked that no one can impose the democracy of its own will on anyone.

Bubba, you do not want to challenge us on this one. The rules have changed, and we can still clean your clock without working up a sweat.

Oh, and no, you are NOT sending astronauts into space in two years unless it's on somebody else's rocket.

Funny when this was a NASA problem. I would think extra buckets of religion would be necessary for a Paki mission.

Over 300 anti-state militants surrender arms in Balochistan
[DAWN] As part of the ongoing political reconciliation in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, more than 300 suspected gunnies laid down arms before the government and security forces on Saturday.

The murderous Moslems, who reportedly belonged to various banned groups, surrendered before Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and Commander Southern Command Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa during a ceremony held at the Balochistan Assembly hall.

Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and other high-level officials were also present on the occasion.

The suspected murderous Moslems, including 17 commanders, vowed to work for the peace and development of the country while laying down arms.

Waving Pak flags during the ceremony, the men said they had been misled by some elements to serve their personal agendas at the cost of poor people.

Appreciating their overtures for peace, Chief Minister Zehri said the reconciliation process will continue despite all odds.
