BuzzFeed Editor: ‘All I Want For Christmas Is Full Communism Now'
For your daily dose of stupidity from the left Marxist wannabees...
[TheWrap] A science editor at BuzzFeed UK raised a few eyebrows last week after some curious remarks about Communism.

"All I want for Christmas is full Communism now," editor Kelly Oakes tweeted ‐ before locking down her account after it was picked by right-wing media and the always ferocious James Woods.
No mention of the Holodomor, the Great Leap Forward, the killing fields or other inevitable by-products of communism; I'm sure it just slipped her mind.

US vetoes resolution to rescind Trump's Jerusalem decision
[NYPost] The United States has vetoed a U.N. resolution that would have required President Trump to rescind his declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The Egyptian-sponsored Security Council resolution was approved by the 14 other council members, a reflection of the depth of global opposition to Trump's action.

Arab nations knew in advance that the United States was certain to veto the resolution, but they sought the vote to demonstrate that countries everywhere and even many U.S. allies such as Britain, France and Japan are against Trump's action.

US. Ambassador Nikki Haley called the resolution "an insult" that won't be forgotten, saying the United Nations forced the U.S. to cast a veto simply because of its right to decide where to put its embassy..

In broad new doctrine, Trump to assert Israel not cause of regional problems
[Jpost] Outlining a broad new foreign policy doctrine in a speech on Monday afternoon, US President Donald Trump will assert that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not at the core of the region's problems, administration officials say.

The policy statement is not new, either from Trump or from his predecessors, all of whom have said that peace between Israelis and Palestinians would benefit the wider Middle East whilst separating out the effects of their conflict from the problems of terrorism and extremism ailing the Arab world.

Trump will note that instead of being a primary irritant in the region, Israel has proven itself an asset to moderate Arab governments seeking prosperity and reform.

Over the summer and throughout the fall, several senior administration officials described the president's prioritization of Israeli-Palestinian peace as a lofty goal with "many positive benefits" for the region as a whole. The administration hopes to link a Palestinian peace deal with a broader regional agreement, understanding that the former must follow the latter.

Presidents of both parties have cast the conflict as an agitant.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. - City leaders gave a chilly reception to a new high-speed rail plan for Amtrak trains that starts running later this month.

The idea is to use the Sound Transit tracks that cut through the city and open them up to Amtrak trains. However, huge safety concerns remain.

State transportation workers came to Lakewood Monday night to share progress on the bypass project.

Right now, passenger trains, including Amtrak Cascades, must slow down due to curves and single-track tunnels on the BNSF Railway main line tracks near Point Defiance and along southern Puget Sound. This project reroutes passenger trains to a bypass rail line along I-5. The proposed route is the same that Sound Transit uses for Sounder commuter rail service to Lakewood.

Recent track upgrades will allow Amtrak to send its locomotives through at 79 miles an hour. City officials in Lakewood have long been worried about the dangers residents could face as these trains race through the city.

“We want to make sure as many people as possible understand what's going on, understand we are starting a new service on December 18th and ensure that they know how to stay safe around the railroad tracks,” said Janet Matkin with WSDOT.

Amtrak said the bypass route saves railway passengers about 10 minutes and improves on-time reliability.

The mayor of Lakewood believes it is just a matter of time before these high speed trains kill someone. He asked the DOT presenters to do better. Mayor Don Anderson said grade separations – such as overpasses – should be included to keep trains away from cars and pedestrians.

“Come back when there is that accident, and try to justify not putting in those safety enhancements, or you can go back now and advocate for the money to do it, because this project was never needed and endangers our citizens,”
the mayor said.

#9  Amtrak during the past year has been advocating to be allowed to use metropolitan transportation rails because they are newer and serve the same major city terminals as local metro lines.

If allowed to blow through local terminals at high speeds they will to not impact metro schedules in those areas. A lot of these agreements have been getting approved around the US.

Clearly local and national rail companies need to do better on this rail sharing approach without the high speeds.

#16  Japanese trains make America look silly.

I can somewhat sympathize with those local pols who thought it might be unsafe. OTOH, like the pols in my beloved San Diego, it appears they allowed development to out pace infrastructure and they are now faced with massive traffic jams as well as no place to put in train tracks that that might relieve congestion on the freeways. Britain
Royal Air Force Base Mildenhall under lockdown due to incident
[Independent] RAF Mildenhall, a US Air Force base in Suffolk, was placed on lockdown after a security incident police described as a "significant incident".

The Ministry of Defence referred The Independent to Suffolk Police, who declined to provide further details.

A spokesman from the base's public affairs office confirmed it had been locked down, but that the lockdown had been lifted shortly after 2.30pm.

Mildenhall's Facebook page said the measures were taken after "reports of a disturbance on base".
Update at 10:31 a.m. ET:
Suffolk Police said American service personnel fired shots during the disturbance.

“A man has been detained with cuts and bruises and taken into custody. No other people have been injured as a result of the incident,” the force added.
Update at 2:40 p.m. ET from a new article linked to the original report:
US military personnel fired shots after a car forced its way through a checkpoint at the RAF Mildenhall US air base, police have revealed.

A 44-year-old British man has been arrested after the “significant incident” forced authorities to lock down the base, which is used only by the US Air Force, at 1pm on Monday.

The Independent understands that a single driver in a vehicle approached a checkpoint and forced his way inside.

American security personnel opened fire and the driver was taken into custody, before being handed to Suffolk Police for a civilian investigation.

He sustained only cuts and bruises, and was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass. No one else was injured and the incident is not being treated as terrorism, police said.

Suffolk Police said: “Police are not looking for anyone else on the site in relation to the incident.”

Jesse Waters on the anti-Trump coup (video)
[Breitbart] Saturday on Fox News Channel’s "Watters’ World," host Jesse Watters suggested that anti-Trump texts from Peter Strzok and another FBI agent could be proof of "coup" going on in FBI special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe to remove President Donald Trump from office.

Waters said, "The investigation into Donald Trump’s campaign has been crooked from the jump. But the scary part is we may now have proof the investigation was weaponized to destroy his presidency for partisan political purposes and to disenfranchise millions of American voters. Now, if that’s true, we have a coup on our hands in America."

‘Linda Sarsour Supervised My Sexual Assault'
[ClarionProject] He would sneak up on me during times when no one was around and, depending on what floor I was on, you could hear me scream at the top of my lungs.

I would be thrown and pinned up against the wall by him.

He had a tendency of sneaking up behind me to touch me.

While this would go on, the acting director, Linda Sarsour, would tell me each time that I was over reacting, even threatened to fire me once when she heard me screaming from the second floor because this man came out of nowhere and touched me. According to Sarsour, something like that did not happen to someone that looked like "me" and no one would ever believe me if I ever told them what happened. Lawmakers Plead with Appropriators for A-10 Funds
[Air Force Magazine] Twenty lawmakers on Friday called for funds needed to re-wing the remaining A-10s in the Air Force’s fleet in order to avoid creating "a significant capability gap" in the close air support and combat search and rescue missions.

The service has already replaced the wings on 173 of its active A-10s, but 110 more will require new wings to extend their service life, the lawmakers wrote in a letter sent to congressional appropriators.

The A-10 funding request was included in the service’s Unfunded Priority List, as well as the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act and the House’s defense appropriations bill. Now 20 lawmakers, led by Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), are asking Senate appropriators to include the funding in their bill, as well. McSally is a former USAF A-10 instructor pilot. The letter is signed by Republicans and Democrats from both the House and Senate.

The Air Force has recently indicated its plan to keep the A-10 in service indefinitely, reversing a plan to decommission the aircraft.

A Time for War: Deep State's Strike and Trump's Counter-Strike
BLUF:
[American Thinker] The scenario is of a horribly politicized, lawless operation within the FBI and DOJ, tied to the Obama-Clinton cabal. It's bad actors doing unthinkable, unprecedented, and horrid things. This is far beyond Watergate. It's the worst political scandal we've ever seen, and it's about to blow.

All these rumblings are the "opportunities to be seized" from Sun Tzu. It's been noted that so much is leaking out about all this, there must be a plan to slowly make the public aware of just how big the train is around the corner. We can all hear it coming now.

Ladies and gentlemen, the fan is about to be hit. Operation Counter-Strike. Deceptive. Yet right in front of us all. The trap is sprung. The Hessians were drunk on their own self-righteousness and sleeping while the battle crept up on them. Planned by an orange oaf.

#1  The Flynn plea deal also has nothing to do with Trump-Russia, as was so poorly reported. We have little to go on, because the mainstream media want it so badly to be about Trump-Russia that they've reported that as fact. But it isn't. Say what you will, but Flynn is not stupid. He knows more about this mess of counter-intelligence than anyone. We know he despises the Obama-Clinton cabal, and we know he is a Trump-supporter, so something isn't clear about his part.

My guess (and only a guess) is Flynn's plans to coordinate a repatriation of Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen created the storm. Gulen would have never been able to survive a Turkish interrogation. Fact or fiction, once back in Turkey, Gulen would have outed his US Intelligence handlers within 24 hours of his return.

Erdogan would have gleefully used a Gulen admission as justification for pulling out of Nato, seizing Incirlik, demanding huge US monetary ransom for the failed July 2016 military coup, or all three.

Added to the mix is the potential involvement of Mike Flynn's son. A man will say or do nearly anything for a son or daughter.

Lastly, the 12 Turkish security guards arrested back in June of beating "protesters," may have not been security guards. Taking it a bit further, the protesters may have also had full-time positions elsewhere within the beltway.

Then today there is this from the Guardian: 'Turkey hopes to open embassy in East Jerusalem, says Erdoğan.'

[American Thinker] With the news that his people illegally obtained the Trump transition emails ‐ many of them having no conceivable bearing on his "inquiry" -- Robert Mueller’s investigation proceeds even further into disintegration.

This is not at all how it was supposed to turn out. Hillary, the DNC, and the #NeverTrumpers no doubt hoped that the special counsel would result in the ouster of Donald Trump, or at least the crippling of his administration. For his part, Mueller very likely foresaw a few easy convictions and the humiliation of a president followed by the customary best-selling book, lucrative lecture tour, and a secure place in the pantheon of left-wing heroes somewhere between Woodward, Bernstein, and Valerie Plame.

But that’s not what happened. Instead, Mueller’s effort lurches unstoppably toward the abyss, while the counsel himself more and more closely resembles Captain Edward John Smith, standing rooted on the bridge while the iceberg glides inevitably closer.

The Mueller team’s lunge into criminality reveals exactly how desperate they’ve become. (and despite what you may have heard from Our Loyal Media, seizing those emails was in fact a crime ‐ presidential transition materials remain private by federal statute. Mueller never should have been allowed near those messages.) Soon enough, they’ll be accused of more crimes than anybody they’re investigating

Why I Quit Teaching
[American Thinker] Some years back, I decided I had to quit the teaching profession to which I had dedicated half my life. The modern academy, I felt, was so far gone that restoration was no longer possible. Indeed, I now believe that complete collapse is the only hope for the future, but as Woody Allen said about death, I'd rather not be there when it happens.

Three reasons determined my course of action. For one thing, administration had come to deal less with academic issues and more with rules of conduct and punitive codes of behavior, as if it were a policing body rather than an arm of the teaching profession. Woe betide the (male) student accused of sexual assault or misconduct; the administration will convene an extra-judicial tribunal to punish or expel the accused, often with a low burden of proof. It will find ways to shut down conservative speakers. It will browbeat faculty and students to attend sensitivity training sessions on matters of race and gender. It will strike task forces to deal with imaginary issues like campus rape culture and propose draconian measures to contain a raging fantasy. The administration is now beset by two basic compulsions: to expand its reach at the expense of the academic community and to ensure compliance with the puritanical norms of the day. I thought it prudent to take early retirement rather than wait for the guillotine to descend.

For another, colleagues were increasingly buying into the politically correct mantras circulating in the cultural climate. The dubious axioms of "social justice" and equality of outcome, the postmodern campaign against the Western tradition of learning, and the Marxist critique of capitalism now superseded the original purpose of the university to seek out truth, to pursue the impartial study of historical events and movements, and to remain faithful to the rigors of disciplined scholarship. Most of my colleagues were rote members of the left-liberal orthodoxy: pro-Islam, pro-unfettered immigration, pro-abortion, pro-feminist, anti-conservative, anti-Zionist, and anti-white. Departmental committees were now basing their hiring protocols not on demonstrated merit, but on minority and gender identities, leading to marked pedagogical decline. Professional hypocrisy could be glaring. Case in point: The most recent hire speaking at a department meeting was a white woman advocating for more brown and black faces on staff ‐ though, as a recent hire, she had never thought of stepping aside in favor of minority candidates vying for her position. In any event, faculties were and are progressively defined by firebrands on the one hand and soyboys on the other ‐ partisans rather than pedagogues, plaster saints all. I found I could no longer respect the majority of people I had to work with.

But the primary incentive for flight had to do with the caliber of students I was required to instruct. The quality of what we called the student "clientele" had deteriorated so dramatically over the years that the classroom struck me as a barn full of ruminants and the curriculum as a stack of winter ensilage. I knew I could not teach James Joyce's Ulysses or Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain since they were plainly beyond the capacity of our catechumens ‐ mind you, all old enough to vote and be drafted. The level of interest in and attention to the subjects was about as flat as a fallen arch. The ability to write a coherent English sentence was practically nonexistent; ordinary grammar was a traumatic ordeal. In fact, many native English-speakers could not produce a lucid verbal analysis of a text, let alone carry on an intelligible conversation, and some were even unable to properly pronounce common English words. I could not help thinking of Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End, in which the children of the planet are all translated into some otherworldly dimension. I titled one of my books about our educational debacle The Turtle Hypodermic of Sickenpods, based on an initially mysterious phrase in a student's essay by which, as I discovered after long consultation, he meant to say "the total epidemic of psychopaths." (This is a true story.)

Of course, many of my former colleagues insisted that their students were "just great," that they constituted a "savvy generation," that they were "a privilege to teach." The degree of self-delusion is off the charts, though I suspect that one motive for such professional vagrancy is the half-conscious awareness of a guilty complicity in the advancement of decadence. The desire to vindicate their roles as teachers and to justify obscenely fat salaries takes precedence over simple honesty.

#2  The quality of what we called the student "clientele" had deteriorated...
My sister, PhD in Ed and all that, decided to teach Remedial Math courses at a local Junior College. Every semester she had at least one "student" that was there seemingly to harvest the government checks and wanted to pass on trivial matters like attendance, homework and passing tests.

#4  I put in 4 years as a middle school substitute when I retired in our upper-middle class district.

The kids, in general, were decent and nice, which is not to say diligent. I could reach some of them which was rewarding.......BUT aside from one assistant principal there was not much support from the administration and the support from the teachers was non-existent for the most part.

I stopped when 'common core" became wide spread. You'd think that a math minor and 30+ years in computers would make me competent to teach 7th grade math wouldn't you?

The left-wing indoctrination was grim in all things despite a few stalwart teachers holding out for real scholarship.

#5  AlanC,
Can I get a heads-up; my daughter is doing stuff in 5th grade I didn't do until 7th grade. Was it the subject matter or the students' lack of preparedness. Daughter is lucky to have a tutor (me) who went far in math and genuinely enjoys the subject. I can see how that isn't the case for a goodly number of students.

every school is different; every teacher is different

in math, there have been a number of technical improvements in teaching over time; in algebra and geometry and trigonometry, there are on line resources that are really wonderful and some of the best teachers made videos of their classes and other teachers watched them

in social science, alas, the field has been invaded by charlatans, propagandists and the like

Sorry it was the course work that basically said that any answer was the right one if you thought it was. I left a couple of years ago now and the details are a bit hazy but the statistics unit was bizzare in the extreme. The regular teacher quickly believed that the traditional way of adding up the values and dividing by the quantity of entries had no benefit or validity.

Social studies refused to allow reference to the holocaust.

#8  Indeed, one of the reasons I am where I am instead of where I was.

Couple years back I came home to a house of crying and shouting because of the frustration of a homework page. After getting everyone to chill TFO I looked at the problem at it was an Algebra problem. I was like, 'they don't even have their multiplication tables memorized, what is this?' So I went to the school and asked them. Long answer short, the Kansas version of Common Core is confusing the teachers, who then had a hard time teaching. I thought, my goodness, all the parents who never learned algebra or forgot enough of it to not being able to help their children.

#9  Khan Academy might be of interest. I remember when the Khan Academy site first started up — he was a Wall Street finance guy, as I recall, and several of his nieces and nephews came to him for help because they were having problems with their various math classes. So he worked up a series of short videos showing them how — and why — to solve the problems they were facing.... and it grew from there. Now one can do an entire education from kindergarten through college just with his material.

#10  Thank you TW. Daughter is pushing the ceiling and I think the only good reason she is not a grade above would be skipping all the math. If I can fill that gap without burning her out, she could go on.

I have already shown her how, with math, there are various ways to figure the volume of, one example, a clay bowl.

And then from there, we went to 'two choices for clay - one is $1 per unit, the other is $0.75 but requires twice as much to build a bowl...which is the better deal?

A week after this one on one, and a few wry jokes from me about the abysmal wording of her word problems, she got it.

#11  Two opposable thumps up for the Khan Academy. Watching the lessons is like having your Dad sit with you at the kitchen table explaining your homework.

And it is not just for kids. I used them to help backfill the lack of probability in my math education when I took part one of the first massive online courses in Artificial Intelligence.

Udacity, Coursera and edX also have some good stuff, although the latter two are more focused on college level material.

Women's March organizer accused of covering up sex abuse
[NYPost] Controversial Muslim activist and Women’s March organizer Linda Sarsour bullied an underling to cover up sex-abuse allegations in her Brooklyn office, a report said.

Asmi Fathelbab told blog The Daily Caller that a man repeatedly rubbed his crotch on her while she worked for the association under Sarsour in 2009.

But when Fathelbab reported the abuse, Sarsour — a self-proclaimed feminist and co-founder of the Women’s March organization — fat-shamed the woman and threatened to blacklist her from political jobs, the woman told the website.

Pelosi's super PAC keeps donations from owners of prostitution website Backpage
[Wash Times] After California’s then-Attorney General Kamala D. Harris announced felony pimping charges last year against the two owners of Backpage.com ‐ a classified-ad website that is a hub for sex trafficking and prostitution, one of the men cut a $10,000 check to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s super PAC.

Mrs. Pelosi’s political action committee, House Majority PAC, has resisted giving the money back, and an aide to Mrs. Pelosi said the California Democrat knows nothing about the contribution.

The uproar over sexual harassment that began with the Harvey Weinstein scandal has intensified the scrutiny of political contributions linked to Backpage, which law enforcement officials say is the chief platform for activities far worse than harassment, including sexual slavery and child prostitution.

Mrs. Pelosi isn’t the only Democrat struggling to deal with the piles of cash that Backpage’s owners spread around to candidates and state Democratic parties over the years.

Even Ms. Harris, a California Democrat who is now a U.S. senator, ducked the issue. Her office wouldn’t respond to repeated emails about Backpage money going to House Majority PAC and other Democratic organizations.

European Populist Leaders Praise Trump, Call For End Of EU
[Daily Caller] European populist leaders met in the Czech Republic over the weekend to discussed a united continent without the European Union.

Leaders from countries including the Netherlands, Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom rallied together in Prague under the theme "For a Europe of Sovereign Nations." French National Front leader Marine Le Pen blamed the E.U. for "everything wrong" on the continent.

"Because we love Europe, we accuse the EU of killing Europe," Le Pen said, according to CBS. "We are not xenophobes, we are opponents of the European Union."

Geert Wilders of the Dutch Freedom Party backed U.S President Donald Trump’s call to limit immigration with walls and travel bans.

"We must have the courage, to introduce travel bans as President Trump has done in the United States," Wilders said. "We must have the courage to restrict legal immigration instead of expanding it. We must have the courage to repatriate the illegal immigrants."

Germany uses EU funds to finance extremist Iranian regime-controlled group
[Jpost] The German government provides €283,150 to a radical pro-Iranian regime Shi’ite umbrella organization as part of a program to counter extremism. The funds will support the activities of the umbrella organization the Shi’ite communities of Germany (IGS) until the end of 2019, according to a Friday article in Bild newspaper.

The paper wrote that money from the EU’s Internal Security Fund will be administered by Germany’s federal criminal agency for the Shi’ite umbrella organization. The aim of the grant to the pro-Iranian regime group is to promote "deradicalization" and "prevent extremism," according to Bild.

Adam Schiff Panics Over Possible End to Russia Probe
[LI] Rep. Adam Schiff said Thursday he’s concerned Republicans are working to end the Russia investigation.
If this man walks up to the urinal next to yours, finish your business quickly and get out.
"I think they view shutting us down as a prerequisite to shutting Bob Mueller down," Schiff said on CNN’s "The Situation Room." "And we see some very disturbing signs that that’s what they intend to do."

In the interview, Schiff noted several Republicans who were critical of special counsel Robert Mueller during a hearing on Wednesday with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

And when CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked the Democrat from California if he feared Republicans were attempting to pave the way to shut down the investigation, Schiff replied: "I do."

"We are scheduled to have witness interviews out of state at a time next week when we’ll be voting to keep the government running, when we’ll be voting ... potentially, on this tax bill for the wealthy, so we can’t leave to do these interviews, and nonetheless even though these witnesses are very important and have been on our witness list for months and months and they haven’t been willing to bring them in until now, they’re pulling these kind of tactics, which say to me they’re trying to bring this to an end," Schiff later added.

Soetoro allowed Hez cocaine running into U.S. in quest for Iran nuke deal
[LI] A major player in the cocaine traffic into the U.S. was the Iranian-sponsored terrorist group Hezbollah. For year it has been known that Hezbollah has infiltrated criminal gangs in South America and set up its own billion-dollar international criminal enterprise to finance its terror activities. None of this was a secret.

U.S. law enforcement came up with an aggressive plan to take down the Hezbollah international network and its key individuals. But it never happened. We now know why.

Politico Magazine has an amazing expose on how the Obama White House derailed the plans to take down the Hezbollah network, and to allow Hezbollah to continue drug-running into the U.S., in order to avoid upsetting the Iran nuclear deal.

The Politico article is so long, so detailed, and so powerful, it’s impossible for me to give a brief summary, so read the whole thing, The secret backstory of how Obama let Hezbollah off the hoo. The subheadline tells the story:

Gorka: War on Terror Won 'When People No Longer Want to Become Jihadists'
[PJ] WASHINGTON ‐ Though he loves "killing terrorists," former deputy assistant to the president Sebastian Gorka said Friday that in order to claim victory against ISIS, the U.S. needs to eliminate the caliphate’s ability to recruit jihadists.

"I love killing terrorists. It’s great, but it’s not a metric of victory," Gorka, who was ousted from the White House in August, said at the Heritage Foundation. "You win when people no longer want to become jihadists. That’s victory. Not measuring body bags. That was a bad metric during Vietnam, and it’s not much of a better metric today."

ISIS continues to recruit terrorists all over the world, inspiring deadly attacks everywhere from Barcelona and London to New York and California. This is made possible by recruitment leaders like Mohamad al-Arefe, a radical Saudi cleric with more than 20 million Twitter followers. Just like the Cold War, Gorka said, victory will only come with the defeat of the ideology. He described the more than 16-year war on terror as an "exquisite" game of whack-a-mole.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former FBI Asst. Dir. Jim Kallstrom: 'Strong Obstruction of Justice Case Against Strzok and Many Others'
[PJ] Former FBI Assistant Director James Kallstrom says a strong case can be made for an obstruction of justice charge against demoted FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok and many others at the FBI and Department of Justice. Strzok, the former assistant director argued, "belongs behind bars."

Kallstrom was on Fox Business Thursday to talk about the conflicts of interest in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s influence in the 2016 U.S. election.

He began by ridiculing Strzok's apparent self-image as a "Lone Ranger riding to the rescue of America."
"Nothing could be further from the truth," Kallstrom scoffed. "Obama went a long way toward destroying this nation in my view. The economy -- he doubled the debt, he screwed up the military, he had the FBI become extremely politically correct, and never mind the foreign policy disasters," Kallstrom argued.

"And here's that so-called Lone Ranger riding in to save the country. It's just outrageous!" he added.

"I've talked to some legal minds recently here and I think ... an investigation would bring a strong, strong obstruction of justice case against him and many others. I think this is a cabal, I think this is a conspiracy," he argued. "That whole thing -- that dossier -- is B.S. and if they took that to the FISA Court and they knew it was B.S., then they're in a lot of trouble. And if they didn't know it was B.S., then they're totally incompetent."

Kallstrom pointed out that the vast majority of people in the FBI are good, honorable people, but a small cabal in leadership positions are a "disgrace."
"That wife of that guy in the Justice Dept. [Bruce Ohr, the former associate deputy attorney general] on a shortwave radio talking to that guy over there in Great Britain [British spy Christopher Steele]. ... What a disgrace! This thing is an absolute fraud!" he exclaimed. "The attorney general of the United States should either resign or do something about it."

Kallstrom opined that based on what he could see from Strzok's damning text messages, Strzok "belongs in Leavenworth."
"He belongs behind bars," the former G-man argued. "These things cannot happen in a democracy, particularly in the FBI."

Kallstrom expressed profound disappointment in Robert Mueller, whom he worked with years ago, saying his treatment of Paul Manafort was particularly outrageous.

#2  There's probably a few more DOJ type in trouble, whether they know it or not. Looking at the recent slew of 'mistaken' stories running in the news, I'm wondering if the IG's office has been playing a round of feed the mole.
It runs like this: The IG has investigated and come up with a list of likely leakers, but you need to indict them for certain. So what you do is you set up your 'trails and traps', and feed each of them a plausible piece of BS, let's say "they've supoena'd Trump's Deutschbank records", and wait to see who runs to a phone.
If an indictment follows, they got them. If an indictment doesn't follow, it means the leak and their contact (i.e. newsman) have agreed to be played.
Just sayin'...

President Trump says he's not considering firing Mueller
[The Hill] President Trump said Sunday he is not considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, amid concerns that the administration was trying to halt the investigation into Russian election meddling.

"No, I'm not," Trump said after a reporter asked him if he was thinking about firing the special counsel.

His remark comes among mounting rumors that Trump was considering firing Mueller and attacks by Trump allies on the special counsel.

The president was also asked about a slew of Trump transition team emails obtained by Mueller as apart of the probe.

Five Christians wounded as Shia-led troops open fire against protesters in Nineveh

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Five Christians were wounded as the Shia-led paramilitary forces opened fire against demonstrators who were protesting against assaults by the troops in Nineveh, a security source was quoted saying on Saturday.

“Tens of Christians gathered today at Bartala village, east of Mosul, in protest against frequent assaults by the PMFs against the Christians,” Police Cap. Agathon Saleh told Anadolu Agency.

Troops, according to Saleh, “opened fire in the air to disperse protesting civilians, however, they remained and resumed chanting anti-PMFs slogans. This urged the troops to randomly shoot the protesters.”

“Three men and two women were injured before they were transferred to the hospital in Hamdaniya for treatment. Counter-Terrorism Services (army’s elite forces) arrived then and arrested nine PMFs personnel for investigations,” Saleh said.

45 % of five million Iraqi IDPs repatriated: Migration Ministry
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi government has revealed that the number of internally displaced citizens reached five million, 45 percent of which returned back home.

In a speech during a ceremony held by the Migration and Displacement Ministry celebrating victory over Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, Minister Jassem al-Jaff said "the ministry and the supreme committee for the relief of the displaced will resume its support so refugees return back to their regions."

"Number of the displaced reached up to five million displaced. Almost half of them returned back home," he added.

"The coming year will be for the return of the displaced," Jaff said. "The government and politicians visions to hold elections on scheduled time will not take place without the swift return of the displaced."

Thousands of families left their homes after IS controlled large areas of the country in 2014. The displacement rate increased as military operations were launched to retake the cities occupies by the holy warrior group.

In late November, Ministry under-secretary, Jassem al-Attiya, denied reports that it has forced refugees to return to their home areas in regions recaptured from IS. He indicated committment to the federal government’s decision which prevents the forced repatriation of refugees.

This came after the U.S. embassy in Iraq and the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights had warned the Iraqi government against forcing refugees to return home in Anbar and other regions.

Afghanistan
Afghan forces receive HIMARS support during the counter-terrorism operations
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The US military officials in Afghanistan are saying that the Afghan national defense and security forces receive High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) support from the US forces during the counter-terrorism operations.

U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Ryan Crider, the Task Force Southwest HIMARS launch chief has said "Our mission is to have all-weather, 24-hour artillery support capability. Since HIMARS is the only weapon system that can do this, it provides fire support for any ANDSF personnel who need it."

Since their arrival, the Marines operating the HIMARS have executed more than ten missions in support of Afghan forces, helping them kill enemy fighters, destroy Taliban

...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
populace, according to a report by Sgt. Lucas Hopkins in Resolute Support Headquarters.

The report further adds that since their arrival, the Marines operating the HIMARS have executed more than ten missions in support of Afghan forces, helping them kill enemy fighters, destroy Taliban IED manufacturing and drug processing facilities, and enhance security for the Helmand populace.

"HIMARS is capable of ranges of out to 300 kilometers. It’s a highly mobile system that is very adaptable to any condition, and it provides [commanders] with... surface-to-surface all-weather fires in order to support our partners on the ground," said U.S. Marine Capt. Justin Noone, the officer-in-charge of the HIMARS detachment.

According to the report, Helmand-based ANDSF relied solely on coalition and Afghan air assets to deliver explosives onto enemy locations during their operations prior to HIMARS arriving. By using GPS technology, HIMARS delivers highly-explosive rounds across the battlespace with precision, while also giving an alternative to air-to-ground fires capabilities.

Ex-President Pinera appears headed back into power in Chile
[WASHINGTONPOST] Billionaire and former President Sebastian Pinera appeared headed to a victory in Chile’s presidential runoff election, with more than 82 percent of the votes counted Sunday night.

Officials said Pinera had just over 54 percent of the votes to nearly 45 percent for center-left Sen. Alejandro Guillier.

Analysts had predicted a closer race, but there had not been any opinion polls on the election for several weeks.

The early results prompted Pinera supporters to celebrate at his campaign headquarters.

Pinera won last month’s first round, but his 36.6 percent vote share fell far short of what polls had projected. Guillier got 22.7 percent in the first round and had been counting on support from backers of other left-leaning candidates who were eliminated.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Police: Palestinian who stabbed border guard Friday pretended to be a journalist
[IsraelTimes] Images from before the attack show assailant, who was wearing a fake suicide bomb belt, standing amid group of news hounds, photographers

Police on Sunday said that a Paleostinian man who stabbed a Border Police officer near the West Bank city of Ramallah on Friday had been pretending to be a journalist in the moments before the attack, which allowed him to get closer to Israeli troops unnoticed.

"The terrorist used the media as a cover to prepare for the attack and ran toward the officers from where the press was gathered," a police spokesperson said.

In the attack, Mohammed Aqal, 29, who was wearing what appeared to be a suicide bomb belt, stabbed the border guard twice in the upper body, moderately wounding him.

Aqal then tried to flee, but was shot three times by officers on the scene after they noticed his apparent suicide bomb belt, fearing he would detonated it, police said. The belt was made up of several objects covered in tape, connected with wires. It was later found to not contain actual explosives.

After he was shot, Aqal was taken from the scene by Paleostinian medics, while still wearing the apparent suicide bomb vest. He was later pronounced dead.

In a statement, police warned that gunnies pretending to be members of the press represented a threat to real journalists, but said that there will be no immediate changes to press access to West Bank protests.

"The Israel Police and Border Police will continue to operate in all areas and at the same time will continue to let the foreign media cover events, despite the threat caused by Paleostinian terrorists," the police said.

The police statement noted that this was not the first time that an assailant has pretended to be a journalist in order to carry out an attack.

In October 2015, a Paleostinian man wearing a yellow vest and a black T-shirt emblazoned with the word "PRESS" stabbed an IDF soldier in the West Bank city of Hebron, moderately wounding him.

Friday’s stabbing took place in the midst of a violent protest against US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last Wednesday.

Following noon-time prayers, riots were reported in Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron, Qalqilya and Nablus. Demonstrators burned tires and threw rocks at Israeli troops, who fired back at them with tear gas and rubber bullets.

According to the Israeli army, some 2,500 Paleostinians took part in protests in the West Bank over the weekend, while another 3,500 rioted along the security fence surrounding the Gazoo Strip, which is controlled by the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terrorist group.

At least 4 dead in Boko Haram ambush on Nigeria convoy
[AlAhram] At least four people were killed when Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters opened fire on a military convoy transporting civilians and food aid in northeastern Nigeria, security sources said Sunday.

Troops later killed two jihadists and recovered weapons after trailing them to nearby villages, the sources said.

"We've been informed that Boko Haram forces of Evil killed four people in an ambush against a civilian convoy near Gamboru," on the border with Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
late Saturday, Babakura Kolo, a member of a paramilitary force battling the jihadists, told AFP.

The attackers arrived in two pick-up trucks before opening fire on the vehicles.

They also managed to steal a lorry carrying food aid to thousands of people displaced by violence in Gamboru, as well as two other vehicles, a local witness said.

Boko Haram has carried out a string of suicide kabooms and kidnappings in northeastern Nigeria, in recent years, particularly in Borno state, leaving at least 20,000 people dead and displacing 2.6 million since 2009.

The strategic 140-kilometre (85-mile) trade route linking the Borno state capital Maiduguri to Gamboru was reopened in July last year after it was shut by the military for two years due to incessant jihadist attacks.

Trucks carrying goods and passenger vehicles use the road under military escort but food-starved fighters still launch sporadic ambushes on convoys from their hideouts.

Rebecca Dykes’ body was found Saturday on the side of a highway east of Beirut, Leb’s capital, the BBC reported Sunday. Dykes, believed to be 30, was strangled, senior police sources told the news site. Local media Al Jadeed TV said Dykes was raped, though authorities said they are investigating whether she was sexually assaulted.

A forensic official also told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that Dykes was strangled with a rope.

Dykes reportedly met friends and colleagues at a bar in central Beirut the night before she was killed, the Telegraph reported. She left the bar just after midnight.

Dykes had been living in Beirut since January while working as the Department for International Development’s program and police manager, according to the BBC.

Friends said she was flying home for Christmas Saturday.

"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca. We are doing all we can to understand what happened. We request that the media respect our privacy," Dykes’ family said in a statement.

A front man for U.K.’s Department for International Development said an investigation into the death is being conducted.

Gunmen assassinate mayor of Misrata
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Gunmen fatally shot the mayor of Libya’s third-largest city, Misrata, late on Sunday, ambushing his car inside the city, security officials said.

The North African oil producer has been in chaos since the 2011 uprising that unseated Muammar Gaddafi, but Misrata, Libya’s biggest port, had been relative peaceful until now.

Gunmen chased the car of Mayor Mohamed Eshtewi after he left Misrata airport following his arrival on a plane from Turkey, a security official said, adding it was unclear who was behind it.

In October, a bomb exploded at the city’s court, killing about four people and wounding 40 others in an attack claimed by ISIS.

The open-ended boycott includes Trump’s top peace envoy Jason Greenblatt, who is due here this week, as well as the US leader’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"No one from the American administration will be met to discuss peace between the Paleostinians and the Israelis, because the [PA] president was very clear on that," said Majdi al-Khalidi, referring to Abbas’s speech at the Organization of Islamic Countries on Wednesday in Istanbul.

Khalidi added that Greenblatt, who is expected to arrive in the region amid violent protests over Trump’s announcement, did not request a meeting with the Paleostinians, with whom he has met on numerous occasions in the past, Khalidi said.

The White House said Greenblatt would come to Israel this week and stay throughout the upcoming visit of US Vice President Mike Pence.

Abbas’s foreign affairs adviser Nabil Shaath told The Times of Israel last week that the PA would continue to communicate with the United States on affairs not connected to the grinding of the peace processor.

The US is a central source of aid for the Paleostinian Authority. In 2016, the US provided $712 million to the Paleostinians, and is the world’s largest supplier of such aid.

US soldier ambushed in Niger wasn't captured
Ay-Pee
[SanDiegoUnionTribune] An American soldier killed in an ambush in Niger with three comrades but recovered days later wasn't captured alive by the enemy or executed at close range, The Associated Press has learned, based on the conclusion of a military investigation.

Dispelling a swirl of rumors about how Sgt. La David T. Johnson, 25, of Miami Gardens, Florida, died, the report has determined that he was killed by enemy rifle and machine gun fire as he fled the attack by an offshoot of the Islamic State group about 120 miles (200 kilometers) north of Niamey, the capital of the African country. The attack took place Oct. 4; Johnson's body was recovered two days later.

U.S. officials familiar with the findings spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity to describe details of an investigation that has not been finalized or publicly released.

A 12-member Army special forces unit was accompanying 30 Nigerien forces when they were attacked in a densely wooded area by as many as 50 militants traveling by vehicle and carrying small arms and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

Mueller 'obtained thousands' of Trump transition emails
[Al Jazeera] A lawyer with US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's transition team has accused the special counsel that is probing alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election of illegally obtaining "tens of thousands" of emails during its investigation.

Kory Langhofer, counsel for Trump for America, Inc (TFA), submitted a letter to the primary Senate and House oversight committees on Thursday, outlining how "career staff at the General Services Administration (GSA) ... unlawfully produced TFA's private materials, including privileged communications, to the special counsel's office".

The GSA is responsible for managing and supporting federal agencies.

In the letter, published by Politico, Langhofer argued that the special counsel's office "was aware that the GSA did not own or control the records in question" and that the documents and "tens of thousands of emails" have been "extensively used" during the investigation.

The letter and accusations have been swiftly discounted by Democrats and other legal experts as an attempt to discredit the Russia-Trump investigation.

The probe, headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, began in May to investigate any potential links between the Russian government and the Trump campaign.

So far, four people, including Trump's former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, have been charged as part of the investigation.

'Privileged'
Langhofer maintains that although the TFA undertakes "executive or quasi-executive functions ... they are not federal agencies" and therefore their communications are private and some are "privileged".

The lawyer said the TFA had learned of the disclosure last week.

According to the letter, the FBI requested the copies of the emails, laptops, mobile phones and other materials associated with nine transition members "responsible for national security and policy matters" on August 23.

Langhofer requested that "Congress act immediately to protect future presidential transitions from having their private records misappropriated by government agencies".

Peter Carr, a front man for the special counsel's office, said in a statement to Rooters news agency that "when we have obtained emails in the course of our ongoing criminal investigation, we have secured either the account owner's consent or appropriate criminal process".

The GSA had not responded to Al Jazeera's request for comment at the time of publication.

'No executive privilege'
Democrats and other legal experts have criticised the letter, saying the accusations are another attempt to "smear the Mueller investigation".

#5  According to another website, transition team documents are by and large protected from subpoena as they are mostly attorney/client correspondence.

There is no way Mueller's team can vacuum up all of those documents and not have some attorney/client correspondence in them which according to ALL case law is off limits to prosecutors.

BTW, do you suppose the pinhead that released all of this stuff to Mueller is cleaning out his desk this morning and being escorted to the door???

#6  I suspect that Mueller doesn't care as long as he can make accusations against Trump. Even if the "evidences" is ruled "fruit of the poisoned tree". Apparently Mueller hopes that the accusations against Trump is enough to smear Trump republicans and ruin their chances in future elections.

Mueller need to be put in jail for a long time for his abuse of the legal process.

Mueller is supposed to be an officer of the court, but I don't see any evidence of that.

There is already a very bad political stench coming from the FBI and Justice Dept regarding the partisan nature and politicization of the both organizations prior to the election by people closely involved with the Mueller team now.

If the political parties were reversed, the press would be howling about the corruption and demanding action. This is the worst since the days of Nixon abusing the NSA and other agencies for political purposes.

Gabon arrests dozens after stabbing over Trump Jerusalem move
[IsraelTimes] Most of those detained are traders and sellers in the tourist-frequented market where knife attack on two Danes occurred

Police in Gabon enjugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
dozens of people on Sunday over a knife attack in the capital apparently committed in retribution for "US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital," officials said.

The men detained were mostly traders and sellers in the popular market in Libreville where the attack occurred on Saturday ‐ and all are from west Africa, according to an AFP correspondent.

They were taken to police headquarters where they are due to be questioned, an official said.

"Operations are ongoing," government front man Alain-Claude Bilie By Nze told AFP. "We are not commenting at this stage."

Two Danish nationals working for the National Geographic channel were maimed in the attack, he said.

Police said the assailant is a 53-year-old Nigerian man who, according to witnesses, shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greatest) during the attack.

The man, who has lived in Gabon for 19 years, said in his first statements that he "acted in retaliation for US attacks against Moslems and America’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital," Defense Minister Etienne Massard said Saturday.

Residents said the man was from the Moslem Hausa/Fulani community of northern Nigeria and sold smoked meat from a cart in the city and in the market.

"We are still gathering information," Bilie By Nze said.

The market in Libreville, popular with tourists, was shut down after the incident and remained closed on Sunday, with security forces manning the gates.

Authorities have said the attack appeared to be politically motivated, but have not publicly classified it as terrorism.

Gabon, a small French-speaking former colony with 1.8 million inhabitants, has so far been spared the Islamist-inspired attacks that have taken place in some neighboring countries.

Political Uncertainty As Protests Spread In Ethiopia
[RADIOSHABELLE] At least 15 people were killed on December 11, 2017, when members of the Æthiopian Defense Force fired on peaceful protesters.

The demonstration was prompted by the killing of an individual by members of security forces of Æthiopia’s Somali Region, in the latest chapter of a longstanding border dispute between Æthiopia’s two largest states ‐ Oromia and Æthiopian Somali in Eastern Æthiopia.

According to reports from local authorities, one person died after being transferred to the hospital following the attack, and more than 12 were maimed in the violence which began in Chelenko, a district town in eastern Oromia:

Reports on social media said that members of the Æthiopian Defense Force fired live bullets on peaceful demonstrators. The Æthiopian government has released a belated statement on the incident, but in an unusual move, the party governing Oromia ‐ the Oromo People Democratic Organization (OPDO), a member of Æthiopia’s governing coalition, the Æthiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) ‐ released a strong statement accusing members of the Æthiopian Defense Force of violating the Æthiopian Constitution and vowing to investigate the killing of peaceful protesters:

Some suggested that the statement is merely a symbolic initiative. Others considered it as a signal of the power struggle raging within the multi-ethnic governing coalition, the EPRDF, which comprises four ethnic-based parties: the Tigrayan People Liberation Front (TPLF), the Oromo People Democratic Organization (OPDO), the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) and the Southern Æthiopian People’s Democratic Movement (SEPDM):

The power struggle involving the four EPRDF parties has been simmering since last summer. The row between the Oromo People’s Democratic Organization (OPDO) and the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), was exposed when Abdula, the speaker of the Æthiopian Parliament and a prominent member of the OPDO, resigned from his position in October:

Power is heavily concentrated among members of the TPLF. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
there is some fear that if the OPDO continues down this road, it will be looking to defend itself using weapons, which could plunge Æthiopia into a civil war that will make the current conflict seem like just fisticuffs:

Despite the fact that the Oromo and Somali people who live along the border of Oromia and the Æthiopian Somali regions share close familial, religious and cultural ties, tensions are high along most of the disputed 1,000 km border. A brutal crackdown on the Oromo community living in Æthiopia’s Somali region has triggered a massive humanitarian catastrophe in eastern Æthiopia. By now, roughly 50,000 Oromos have fled into Æthiopia’s historical town, Harar, since last August.

Protests raged elsewhere in Æthiopia as well. A clash between followers of two football clubs from Æthiopia’s northern states, Amhara and Tigray, led to the death of a football fan from Tigray, which in turn caused episodes of violence in three universities located in the Amhara, Oromia and Tigray regional states.

Last week saw one particularly violent night at Adigrat University (situated in the Tigray region), where a student from the Amhara region was killed. Gruesome images of the victim subsequently went viral on social media:

In what appears to be reprisals, two students from Tigray were reportedly killed at Welega University, located in the Oromia region. The number of incidents and casualties, as well as the number of people involved and the ethnic tone of the conflict over the past few days, has raised the prospect of even greater violence in Æthiopia, according to analysts.

The Æthiopian government grudgingly characterizes the recent unrest as ethnic conflict, but also points the finger at diaspora-based activists and social media. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
opposition groups argue that Tigrayan politicians instigated the violence as a tool to maintain the status quo:

On December 13, mobile internet services and social media services were cut off in most parts of the country in an attempt to avert the deepening crisis.

#13  Quick research: Flake is retiring, Kelly Ward is running for that as a Trump candidate. Controversial, and quite up front on a lot of things, but pulled in nearly 1/3 against McCain in the 2016 primary. She is the front-runner and basically unopposed until a little while ago, but can be seen as divisive.

But there is another...

The other one? USAF Colonel (Ret) Martha McSally, former A-10 pilot, current Rep AZ-2 (R). Pro-military, pro-life, pro-2nds Amendment, pro school choice, anti-obamacare, the list goes on. Rock solid conservative of the Barry Goldwater stripe. She recently announced for the same seat.

The AZ Gov must appoint a replacement of the same party. If he appoints one of the two, this leaves the other to win the primary for flakes seat basically unopposed, thereby uniting the party.

Having both candidates run in the fall election - one for the open seat (2024), one for the remainder of the McCain seat term (2022). think of that: 1 very traditional conservative candidate in McSally, and 1 Trump populist-conservative in Ward. Two women leading the charge in Arizona.

Win Win. Because the two together will drive up the GOP turnout, one for the traditionalists, one for the Trump and blue collar, they would help each other in terms of voting. Nail down those seats to be far more conservative reliably than the current bozoes in them. Trump should push hard for this. Appoint McSally to give her time to rev up for the general senate election in 2018 as an incumbent, and clear the path for Ward to run as an outsider in the process.

Ankara to Open Diplomatic Mission in East al-Quds: Erdogan
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated his country’s support for Palestine in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s recognition of al-Quds as Zionist entity’s capital, stating that Ankara plans to open an embassy in East Jerusalem al-Quds.

“God willing, the day is close when officially, with God’s permission, we will open our embassy there,” Erdogan said on Sunday.

The remarks came amid reports that Lebanon and Turkey are considering opening diplomatic missions in the occupied East Jerusalem al-Quds in response to Trump’s controversial decision to recognize the whole city as the “capital” of ‘Israel’.

In a post on his official Twitter account, Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil described East Jerusalem al-Quds as “the capital of Palestine,” saying he had informed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of his willingness to establish a Lebanese embassy there.
That’s all very well, but not only did Israel declare that the united Jerusalem as her eternal capital, but they are the military in power in the Old City. Calling it the Palestinian capital ahead of final negotiations is meaningless, and as for building there, that requires permission from Israel. So pontificate on, O Muslim leaders, but know precisely how powerless in this matter you are.

Iran airs ‘confessions’ of researcher facing death for spying
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
broadcast on Sunday what it described as the confessions of an Iranian academic with Swedish residency who it said had provided information to Israel to help it assassinate several senior nuclear scientists.

His wife, speaking by telephone from Stockholm, said he had been forced by his interogators to read the confession.

Iran’s Supreme Court upheld last week a death sentence against Ahmadreza Djalali, a doctor and lecturer at the Karolinska Institute, a Stockholm medical university.

Djalali was locked away

in Iran in April 2016 and later convicted of espionage. He denied the charges.

In the television report, Djalali was linked to the liquidation of four Iranian scientists between 2010 and 2012 that Tehran said was an Israeli attempt to sabotage its nuclear energy program.

Djalali said in the report that he had given the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad information about key nuclear scientists.

"They were showing me pictures of some people or satellite photos of nuclear facilities and were asking me to give them information about that," Djalali said in the television report.

Vida Mehrannia, Djalali’s wife, said her husband had been forced to read a pre-agreed confession in front of the camera.

"After three months in solitary confinement, his interrogators told him that he would be released only if he reads from a text in front of the camera," she told Rooters by telephone from Stockholm.

"My husband told me that they shouted at him each time he was saying something different from the text and stopped the filming," Mehrannia added.

Palestinians in Gaza fire rockets at Israel
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip fired two rockets at southern Israel on Sunday night, the Israeli army said in a statement without giving further details.

State-owned Kan 11 TV said nobody was injured, despite one of the rockets apparently hitting a house.

The attacks ended a three-day lull in the latest wave of rocket attacks amid anger over US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

On Wednesday Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system intercepted two rockets fired from Gazoo while a third came down inside Israeli territory.

Early Thursday morning Israeli aircraft hit three "military facilities" of the Islamist group Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, in Gazoo.

Militants in the Paleostinian enclave have fired both rockets and mortar rounds into Israel since Trump’s deeply controversial announcement.

Trump’s announcement was followed by protests across the Paleostinian territories, with six Gazooks killed -- four in festivities with Israeli forces along the border and two Hamas Death Eaters in an Israeli air strike in retaliation for rocket fire.

How Egypt’s Al-Azhar aims to crack down on unauthorized ‘TV fatwas’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In a presser held at the Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation, a list of the names of 50 scholars authorized by al-Azhar, Egypt’s top religious authority, to issue religious edicts fatwas in Egyptian media outlets was released.

In September, Dr. Sabri Abdel Raouf was prohibited from making TV appearances after he issued a fatwa (religious edict) granting husbands the right to have intercourse with their dead wives.
According to the council, this step aims at putting an end to a series of groundless fatwas issued by unqualified preachers who appear on TV shows until a legislation is issued to regulate religious discourse in the media.

The council, which in charge of monitoring the content of media outlets on both the professional and moral levels, threatened to penalize channels and anchors that do not abide by the list it provided. While this decision was met with relief by most Egyptians who have for a long time been complaining of fatwas they labelled "sick," many were taken by surprised since a number of prominent religious scholars who made frequent appearances on TV were not part of the list. This, consequently, raised questions about the criteria based on which the selection was made in the first place.

The army and popular resistance forces liberated most of Bihan and Usaylan on Friday following battles that ended with the Houthis’ defeat.

Egypt raises security level to maximum alert in preparation for Coptic holidays
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egyptian authorities announced that they will raise security levels to maximum alert on Sunday in preparation for Coptic Christmas festivities and possible Sinai terrorist attacks.

Following a meeting chaired by the Minister of Interior, Magdy Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry released a statement showcasing their plan to secure Christmas celebrations which begin later this month and will continue until January 7.

"Critical security confrontations with terrorist factions in North Sinai may prompt some of them to flee and try to sneak into cities, and this will require vigilance and preparation to face those attempts," said Abdel Ghaffar.

A terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in Arish earlier today prompted the decision to raise security levels to maximum alert by the minister, which is the highest level of security measures.

The ministry confirmed the importance of intensifying the presence of security forces around public areas and places of worship to be able to deal immediately and decisively with any attempt to disturb the holiday celebrations of Egypt's citizens, according to Egypt Today.

Security forces will apply 800-meter "safe areas" around churches and the government will provide explosive detection devices to counter any attempts to target places of worship, the newspaper added.

Security forces will implement security procedures for all 2,326 churches in Egypt.

During Christmas celebrations in 2016, an kaboom in the al-Botrosiya Church, near the complex of the main Coptic Cathedral in Cairo, killed 29 people and injured tens of others. The attack was orchestrated by ISIS.

Syrian forces uncover, destroy 300m terrorists’ tunnel in Damascus countryside
[PRESSTV] Syrian government forces have discovered and destroyed a 300-meter-long tunnel used by terrorist groups in the countryside of Damascus.

According to Syria's state news agency SANA on Sunday, the eight-meter-deep tunnel was found in Eastern Ghouta and was used by turbans to infiltrate into military positions in the region.

After military units thoroughly investigated the tunnel, they found out that the turbans were planning to use the tunnel to access military positions around a Women’s Prison in the Tal Kurdi region.

Military sources noted that the tunnel had been subsequently destroyed.

Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
on Sunday phoned President Trump to thank him for a tip from the CIA that thwarted a terrorist attack being planned in St. Petersburg.

The unusual call ‐ countries share intelligence all the time, but presidents rarely publicly thank one another for it ‐ was confirmed by White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Putin told Trump that the information provided by the CIA allowed Russian law enforcement agencies to track down and detain a group of suspects who were planning to bomb the centrally located Kazan Cathedral and other crowded parts of Russia’s second-largest city.

Rebels torch Bangkok-bound bus in southern Thailand
[Bangkok Post] A double-decker bus heading from restive Yala province to Bangkok was torched by militants after they ordered 11 passengers, the driver and an attendant to leave the bus.

Bannang Sata district police received a report of the attack on Sunday afternoon and rushed to the scene at Ban Kasod with explosive ordnance experts. They found the bus in flames. Firefighers were able to extinguish the fire in about ten minutes, but the bus was destroyed. Police found burnt tires, a felled tree and spikes distributed all over the road to block traffic.

Bus attendant Marorwe Ding said the bus had left with 11 passengers, a driver and himself on board. At Ban Kasod, burning tires on the road blocked their way. When the bus stopped, 10-15 armed men dressed like soldiers emerged from the roadside jungle and ordered everyone off the vehicle. They then doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it alight before leaving the scene. The attackers spoke in the Yawi dialect and did not harm anyone on the bus.

Police suspect a group of rebels led by Ahama Leubasar were involved as they have been active in the area. It is suspected that at least 20 people were engaged in the operation.

Saudis in anticipation for the moment when cinemas will launch in kingdom
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Days before the ending of 2017, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
declared the breaking news of allowing cinemas to operate. In the current remarkable era of change in Saudi Arabia, could you imagine the first month when cinemas open in the Kingdom?

"The first week of cinema launching will make history!" according to Hussain Daghriri, filmmaker and photographer. From Hussain’s point of view, Saudis are connoisseurs of movies, because they like to enjoy entertainment in different ways and share the joy online on social media.

Saud al-Madhi, CEO of a production house, believes that most of the families in Saudi Arabia need to get used to attending cinemas, and start enjoying entertainment activity that is going to change their lifestyle. Like the others, Saud is expecting to watch foreign films in Saudi cinema, and keen to see Saudi films premières in the future. "There is a huge potential, I think many indie Saudi movies will be streaming in Saudi cinemas in special movie nights", Saud says.

Hollywood movies
On the other hand, Abdulmajeed al-Kenani, Saudi Actor, asserts that the first month of opening cinemas won’t impact the film industry without full background and knowledge about filmmaking in Saudi. He expects that Hollywood movies will be the ones to be released first in the movie theaters here. Then, after regulations are issued by the General Commission for Audiovisual Media, many things will be clear for filmmakers and production houses in Saudi.
